  1. Well, I have to tell you, I love listening to you sing.

  2. I always do.

  3. And so when I say let's turn in our Bibles, it is against the backdrop of the sweet, joyful singing

  4. !

  5. As we've thought about the Lord Jesus Christ and his word.

  6. I want you to turn in your Bibles to first, no, we're not going there first.

  7. I want you to turn in your Bibles to Psalm 45, verse 6 and 7.

    Psalms 45:6

  8. I'm curious.

  9. I'm curious.

  10. I'm curious.

  11. How many of you here really struggle with sin?

  12. Don't wave your hand at me and say, hey, that's me.

  13. I'm all over it, man.

  14. I'm doing the best I can.

  15. But how many of you find yourself on a regular basis grieved, burdened, disappointed with the sinfulness of your soul?

  16. How many of you would like to be different?

  17. Honestly.

  18. Tired of struggling with the same old things over and over again.

  19. I got good news for you.

  20. When we get home, it's going to be great.

  21. People ask me, how's it going?

  22. When I say, any better than I be dead.

  23. Because the next step is always victory and it's joyful.

  24. And the passage that I want us to look at first this morning is a passage in Psalm 45 where the psalmist expresses joy at the character of our Savior.

  25. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.

  26. The scepter of your throne is a scepter of uprightness.

  27. Now listen to this and memorize it.

  28. Have it stick in your mind and let it be a benchmark, a measurement about where your heart needs to be.

  29. You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness.

  30. Therefore, God your God has anointed you with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.

  31. I was driving yesterday.

  32. You have been praying about the possibility of me serving as an interim pastor in a place.

  33. And I was driving down the road to a place that had asked me about coming in the future to minister a little bit occasionally.

  34. And as I was driving, I tried to call my wife.

  35. Because there was something that I thought really desperately needed to be done.

  36. And how many of you know that when you have a good idea, everybody else in the world should have the same good idea?

  37. You know, it's like, what's the deal?

  38. And I thought, my wife's on task.

  39. I'll call her and she'll answer the phone and it's all taken care of.

  40. So you know how it worked out from there, right?

  41. We have a cell phone that my wife has and we have, and we also have a hard line because our cell phone...

  42. Anyway, so I was alternating between calling her cell phone and calling her hard line, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth.

  43. And so here I am driving to meet with a group of men about serving in an interim pastor eventually in the future.

  44. And a very spiritual thing to do, you know.

  45. And I'm driving along and my wife's not picking up her call.

  46. How would you do on that case?

  47. God is in control.

  48. You know, I'm hearing Twyla Parris in the background.

  49. Some of you don't know who that is.

  50. But, you know, it's like, I'm...

  51. No, that's not what's happening.

  52. I was beginning to devolve into a kind of an attitudinal snit.

  53. Just temporarily.

  54. I got to tell you.

  55. Thank the Lord.

  56. I mean, it kind of dawned on me.

  57. You know, Tim, who are you?

  58. She's probably doing something important.

  59. She was actually drying her hair, which was reasonable.

  60. Because I wanted her to go out and make a public appearance to pick up something for me.

  61. And finally, when she did answer the call, she was in the car on the way there.

  62. I was just so tickled.

  63. Particularly that I hadn't gotten angry.

  64. And that sin hadn't entirely gotten the best of me.

  65. I hate sin.

  66. I struggle with it.

  67. I don't know about you.

  68. But it's a real bother to Tim Knoyer's life.

  69. And the passage that we are going to look at this morning in 1 John 2 is all about sin.

  70. I thought to myself, so Tim, since you've got five sermons left, what would you like to preach on?

  71. Sin is my favorite topic.

  72. And so there it is.

  73. I get to talk on sin.

  74. But it's in the Bible.

  75. And we want to get to it.

  76. And what I realized as I was in prayer and study, there's not a one of you here this morning that is not actively engaged in dealing with sin.

  77. There are some of you here that don't know Christ.

  78. And sin has absolutely overwhelmed your life.

  79. And it is leading you to eternity apart from God and hell.

  80. There are others of you here that are believers that know the blessing of his grace but still continue that struggle.

  81. And so it is my rich privilege this morning to open the Bible and tell you that you do not have to be a captive to that problem.

  82. That's the truth.

  83. Chapter 2, verse 1, let me read it to you.

  84. And I want you to follow along in your Bible while you do this.

  85. Multitasking.

  86. Multitasking.

  87. Multitasking.

  88. You are to listen to the preaching of the Word of God and you are to pray for the man who delivers it at the same time.

  89. That's what the Scripture calls you to.

  90. 2 Thessalonians 3, verse 1 and 2.

    2 Thessalonians 3:1

  91. So you pray and listen at the same time.

  92. So let me read it to you and you follow along here.

  93. It says, my little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin.

  94. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

  95. He is the propitiation for our sins and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.

  96. And by this we know that we have come to know him if we keep his commandments.

  97. Whoever says, I know him but does not keep his commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him.

  98. But whoever keeps his word and in him truly the love of God is perfected, by this we know that we are in him.

  99. Whoever says that he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.

  100. He's not in him.

  101. He's not in him.

  102. He's not in him.

  103. He's not in him.

  104. It would be inappropriate for me to not follow the order of the text.

  105. And I don't think it is an accident that when John the Apostle wrote to the church,

  106. that he put this little part at the beginning when he says, my little children.

  107. By the way, any of you that kind of, a little Bible knowledge,

  108. you remember how John was known early on in his apostolic development process, right?

  109. Remember, what was he known as?

  110. The sons of, well, remember some people were having an attitude towards Jesus and John wanted to solve it, right?

  111. Go out there and be peace and light and throw a little bit of love around, you know, just burn them.

  112. You know, in fact, it was, hey, can I, hey, could I call down light, you know, fire from heaven and smoke those guys?

  113. John was a fiery man.

  114. Now, over time, the love and work of Christ led him to be exceptionally tender.

  115. And here he is towards the end of his life, and he writes to this church,

  116. and he's concerned for this church's spiritual well-being.

  117. Look at me.

  118. I've been your shepherd, your pastor, for a number of years,

  119. and I happen to know that as I'm struggling with sin, you guys are struggling with some of those issues.

  120. I happen to know some of them, too.

  121. And so I come to you and I say, my little children, there is an affection here,

  122. and I think it's important for us to understand that John loved those that he was writing to.

  123. He really cared about them.

  124. The idea that those who care for the church professionally, pastors,

  125. are there to kind of be distant instructors of righteousness really finds no support in Scripture.

  126. Do you understand what I'm saying?

  127. It's like kind of a guy who dispenses wisdom and stuff and says the right things and recites the Bible,

  128. but there's no affection, there's no passion in relationship with people.

  129. That's not the way it is.

  130. Godly ministry always involves an affection for the people that you're engaged with.

  131. Does that make sense to you?

  132. By the way, we know the importance of that when you pay attention to how children interact with parents.

  133. One of the things I've noticed over and over again is when a child is doing something wrong

  134. and the parent corrects the child by voice, you know, it's like,

  135. hey, Bubba, don't do that.

  136. You know what the child immediately does?

  137. Well, some children, I should say.

  138. The child looks at the parent's eyes.

  139. What is the child trying to figure out to start out with?

  140. Well, the child's trying to figure out, do you love me?

  141. Where am I at in this food chain?

  142. Because that issue of the affection of the one who is ministering the Word

  143. or ministering discipline is important.

  144. I am reminded of the affection that John had here,

  145. and I'm reminded of the affection that the Apostle Paul had

  146. for the churches that he wrote to.

  147. Remember, he says this,

  148. I labor and travail until Christ be formed in you.

  149. Remember, he also talked in 2 Corinthians of the burden of caring for the churches.

  150. His concern was something that was evident.

  151. And you stop and think about Paul.

  152. He was a preeminent theologian,

  153. and yet the thing that people remembered about him was not just his teaching,

  154. but was his affection for them.

  155. And here is John at the very beginning of dealing with a very difficult subject

  156. in the body of Christ, namely the ongoing struggle that everyone has with sin.

  157. He starts out and says,

  158. Hey, listen, my little children.

  159. I can still remember reading a portion of a book by Charles Bridges, a Puritan.

  160. And years ago, I remember reading it early in my pastoral ministry,

  161. and he made this comment that when people ask themselves the question,

  162. Does Jesus love me?

  163. One of the things that should assure them of Christ's love for them

  164. is the love of their pastors and their teachers for them.

  165. So let me stop here just for a moment and make this point clear.

  166. If you are in a teaching phase or ministry of this fellowship

  167. and your students do not understand that you love them,

  168. you are not hitting the Bible mark of ministry.

  169. Is that a fair statement?

  170. Here is John at the beginning of the business of dealing with a sin problem

  171. in the congregation, and he says,

  172. Let's start out, and I want you to know that I love you,

  173. my little children.

  174. Well, with that said, can you imagine

  175. just the impropriety in today's culture

  176. of somebody standing at the front and saying,

  177. Guys, I'm really concerned with your sin problem?

  178. Hmm?

  179. What? You are?

  180. I mean, compared to what I see in the world around,

  181. why are you concerned about my sin problem?

  182. The only thing I'm dealing with is attitudes occasionally.

  183. This is just a real confession.

  184. I haven't had a speeding ticket in quite some time.

  185. Thank God.

  186. Not that I haven't deserved a couple.

  187. But I am struggling with accepting the fact

  188. that there are state police officers

  189. that cherry pick on Wilson Road when I drive home.

  190. There is a portion of Wilson Road that goes from 45 to 35.

  191. Guess where the state police officers park

  192. because they know that's easy picking,

  193. and they have a quota.

  194. And so I'm driving by there just thinking,

  195. Yes, Lord, Romans 13 is in the Bible,

  196. and you have put them there for me.

  197. Oh, my.

  198. My little children,

  199. I am writing these things to you

  200. so that you may not sin.

  201. Question.

  202. How serious are you about sin?

  203. I remember a couple years ago,

  204. we had a norovirus epidemic here at church.

  205. How many remember that?

  206. It's one of the moments of our history

  207. that it should be chronicled in our annuals somewhere.

  208. But there was a person who got sick

  209. right at the end of the service,

  210. and happened to,

  211. I don't know what the word is appropriate for this moment,

  212. but they happened to discharge out in the lobby.

  213. And then the entire congregation waded through the mist.

  214. And we actually had 96 or 90,

  215. do you remember?

  216. It was in the 90s.

  217. We ended up having the health department come here

  218. and use us as a test case.

  219. And norovirus.

  220. How many people die from norovirus?

  221. Not that many.

  222. But it was really kind of interesting

  223. to hear people going apoplectic about norovirus.

  224. I mean, they were really serious.

  225. I'm not going to get sick.

  226. You know, it's like,

  227. what happened to Christian charity

  228. and kindness and concern for one another?

  229. I mean, do you know what happened

  230. when during the Middle Ages,

  231. Christians were in communities that had the plague?

  232. Huh?

  233. Does anybody know?

  234. Christians developed church,

  235. I mean, hospitals,

  236. and took care of the sick.

  237. Well, my point is,

  238. is when that norovirus thing swept through here,

  239. it was really interesting.

  240. Norovirus is like a panic state for people.

  241. I don't want to,

  242. you know, it's like,

  243. oh, norovirus.

  244. I don't see anybody acting that way towards their sin.

  245. And sin is far more dangerous to you

  246. than norovirus is.

  247. So I want you to understand when John says this,

  248. I am writing these things to you

  249. so that you may not sin.

  250. And I want you to etch that into your thinking.

  251. The Holy Spirit is interested in you not sinning.

  252. Can I say that again slowly?

  253. Because I don't think you believe it.

  254. The Holy Spirit is interested in you not sinning.

  255. He's interested in me not sinning.

  256. Why is that?

  257. Well, for the unbeliever,

  258. sin is just the way it is.

  259. Am I right?

  260. I think about the passage,

  261. and I think it's Isaiah, Jeremiah,

  262. where it says, you know,

  263. can the Nubian change his skin

  264. or the leopard change his spots?

  265. It says, you've got no chance.

  266. You're going to do what you do.

  267. Unbelievers are snared,

  268. are trapped by sin.

  269. And you have to face that.

  270. You know, sometimes we as believers act,

  271. I can't believe they did that.

  272. Well, they're just,

  273. they're being where they are.

  274. Give them a break and give them Jesus

  275. and hope that he redeems them

  276. from the fall and the curse

  277. and changes their hearts

  278. until people have a change of heart.

  279. They're really not going to do anything but sin.

  280. But believers,

  281. we're not slaves anymore.

  282. Is that right?

  283. How many of you agree?

  284. We're not slaves.

  285. We're not slaves.

  286. We don't have to.

  287. I like that.

  288. But I'm still struggling with it.

  289. Why is sin such a bother?

  290. Well, sin is terrible in so many ways.

  291. And let's take some time to think through,

  292. why is John concerned?

  293. Well, for one,

  294. sin un-God's God.

  295. Every sin is an affront,

  296. offense,

  297. to his holiness,

  298. to his wisdom,

  299. to his goodness,

  300. to his moral purity.

  301. Every time we sin,

  302. we tell God

  303. that he is not

  304. the one who counts.

  305. I mean,

  306. I'll go back to the illustration

  307. of having called my wife

  308. six or seven or eight times

  309. and hoping that she'd pick up the phone

  310. because I was really,

  311. really intent

  312. on her picking up

  313. some rolled rubber

  314. for our porch.

  315. And when she didn't pick it up,

  316. my first thought,

  317. how many of you know this,

  318. whatsoever thoughts are pure,

  319. whatsoever things are good,

  320. da-da-da-da,

  321. my first thought was not,

  322. you know what?

  323. She's probably cooking

  324. my favorite meal.

  325. I didn't think that.

  326. You know,

  327. she's probably doing my laundry

  328. and folding it

  329. like she always does,

  330. and I'm amazed.

  331. It just happens.

  332. And it's like,

  333. I didn't think that either.

  334. But at the heart of it,

  335. what I was really doing

  336. was I was displacing

  337. my sovereign God

  338. who was absolutely in control

  339. whether or not

  340. I get rubber roofing

  341. on Saturday.

  342. I thought my agenda

  343. was more important

  344. than his agenda.

  345. Any time you sin,

  346. you un-God.

  347. God.

  348. Secondly,

  349. sin is a denial

  350. of the power

  351. of the gospel.

  352. Write that down, please,

  353. and have it stick.

  354. Sin is a denial

  355. of the gospel.

  356. When believers sin,

  357. the believer is saying

  358. that Christ's sacrifice

  359. for us

  360. is insignificant

  361. in comparison

  362. to our momentary lust

  363. or anger

  364. or greed.

  365. furthermore,

  366. we say that

  367. the power of the gospel

  368. to deliver us

  369. from bondage to sin

  370. is practically ineffective.

  371. In other words,

  372. it really doesn't work.

  373. Yesterday morning

  374. as two of us

  375. were bringing oatmeal

  376. to different people,

  377. one of the things

  378. I enjoy about doing that

  379. is I have opportunities

  380. when the door is open

  381. to tell people

  382. that I know

  383. the only one

  384. who can change

  385. their messy lives.

  386. I don't say messy,

  387. but I mean,

  388. when you're living

  389. in a tent

  390. and it's

  391. five below,

  392. I don't have to say that.

  393. And you're living

  394. in absolute squalor.

  395. You know what the word squalor,

  396. some of you

  397. have rooms

  398. that are messy,

  399. but no.

  400. I have the privilege

  401. of saying

  402. I know the only one

  403. who can change

  404. your life,

  405. who can deliver you

  406. from the hopelessness

  407. of your sin

  408. and can not only

  409. grant you

  410. complete forgiveness,

  411. but can help you

  412. stop being

  413. who you are.

  414. I love

  415. the fact

  416. of the gospel

  417. that because

  418. I am a child

  419. of God,

  420. I don't have to

  421. stay the way

  422. I am.

  423. So when a believer

  424. sins,

  425. in practical terms,

  426. he is saying

  427. I deny

  428. the power

  429. of the gospel.

  430. Now,

  431. everybody smile.

  432. You know,

  433. we're not

  434. into adultery.

  435. We're good with that.

  436. We've not

  437. stolen a lot.

  438. We've not

  439. murdered anybody here.

  440. You know,

  441. I mean,

  442. we're good.

  443. We're good.

  444. But I'll tell you

  445. what,

  446. we have some people

  447. that are pretty good

  448. at being pouty

  449. and fussy

  450. and gossipers

  451. and unhappy

  452. and malcontents.

  453. Do you follow

  454. what I'm saying?

  455. Does that bother

  456. God at all?

  457. What do you think?

  458. Does it bother you?

  459. I had to mow

  460. our lawn yesterday.

  461. yesterday.

  462. We have a very

  463. small lawn

  464. and my dog

  465. uses it twice a day.

  466. I don't need to go

  467. any further than that,

  468. right?

  469. You understand

  470. what I'm saying?

  471. So one of the things

  472. that goes with

  473. prepping the lawn

  474. for mowing is

  475. understand,

  476. do I need to go

  477. further?

  478. We're okay.

  479. I have to go out

  480. and do a little patrol

  481. before I go out

  482. and mow.

  483. Oh yeah.

  484. Oh yeah.

  485. And then I mow

  486. and enjoy.

  487. But I was about

  488. 80% through

  489. and suddenly I got

  490. this wafting odor

  491. of processed dog food

  492. and I'm thinking,

  493. ugh,

  494. ugh,

  495. ugh.

  496. You know,

  497. scamper over there

  498. to the hose

  499. and you know,

  500. pfft.

  501. You know,

  502. it's no problem.

  503. Dog stuff on my shoe.

  504. I'm going inside the house

  505. and you know,

  506. new.

  507. Everybody listen.

  508. God takes our sin

  509. far more seriously

  510. than we do.

  511. Sin is a denial

  512. of the power

  513. of the gospel.

  514. One of the reasons

  515. more people

  516. have not come to faith

  517. is frankly,

  518. they don't see

  519. that God changes

  520. hearts as much

  521. as they should.

  522. You are either

  523. living proof

  524. that Jesus died

  525. and rose again

  526. and he can deliver

  527. people from sin

  528. or you are

  529. a practical denial

  530. of the gospel

  531. you proclaim.

  532. Third thing is

  533. sin leads to

  534. unwise

  535. and irrational

  536. choices.

  537. Write that down

  538. because we don't

  539. believe it.

  540. the sinner

  541. can talk himself

  542. into thinking

  543. that his sin

  544. is the best

  545. course of action

  546. for the moment.

  547. I mean,

  548. have you ever

  549. bumped into a sinner

  550. and said,

  551. why did you do that?

  552. And they immediately

  553. say to you,

  554. well,

  555. that was the best

  556. idea I had.

  557. They never say that

  558. after the fact.

  559. But as they're

  560. processing,

  561. should I do that,

  562. what are they thinking?

  563. What do you think

  564. they're thinking?

  565. Well,

  566. this is really

  567. going to hurt

  568. in the end.

  569. this is going

  570. to lead

  571. to my spiritual

  572. compromise.

  573. It's going

  574. to cause

  575. heartache.

  576. It's going

  577. to grieve

  578. my family.

  579. It's going

  580. to ruin

  581. my testimony.

  582. It's going

  583. to harm

  584. my...

  585. No!

  586. I think

  587. about that

  588. passage in

  589. Romans chapter

  590. one,

  591. and we'll not

  592. get into it

  593. here,

  594. but remember

  595. Paul writes

  596. this.

  597. He said,

  598. God gave

  599. them up,

  600. God gave

  601. them up,

  602. God gave

  603. them up.

  604. Three times

  605. he makes

  606. that point

  607. that,

  608. you know,

  609. God lets

  610. people have

  611. their way,

  612. and what

  613. happens?

  614. How many of you

  615. noticed,

  616. listen,

  617. how many of you

  618. noticed that

  619. every time you

  620. sin that you

  621. do not deal

  622. with that sin

  623. and confess it

  624. and forsake

  625. it and repent,

  626. it gets worse?

  627. It gets worse?

  628. It gets worse?

  629. One of the

  630. advantages of

  631. being 69,

  632. almost 70,

  633. is I have

  634. all kinds

  635. of scar tissue

  636. from Jesus

  637. dealing with

  638. me pretty

  639. firmly about

  640. my sin.

  641. You get it?

  642. And every

  643. now and then

  644. when I begin

  645. messing with

  646. an attitude

  647. that could

  648. take me

  649. into the

  650. absolute

  651. swamp,

  652. he kind

  653. of touches

  654. on an

  655. old scar

  656. and says,

  657. hey Tim,

  658. do you

  659. remember this

  660. one?

  661. Yeah.

  662. Don't mess

  663. with me.

  664. Remember

  665. the story

  666. of Jacob?

  667. Jacob wrestled

  668. with God

  669. and God

  670. did what?

  671. Crippled

  672. him.

  673. I would

  674. venture to

  675. say,

  676. every now

  677. and then

  678. when Jacob

  679. started getting

  680. an attitude,

  681. God would

  682. kind of bring

  683. along a little

  684. bit of hip

  685. dysplasia.

  686. You know,

  687. okay,

  688. I get it.

  689. Get back

  690. on the road.

  691. You know,

  692. I got it.

  693. Come on.

  694. Sin

  695. leads

  696. to

  697. unwise

  698. and

  699. irrational

  700. choices.

  701. And by

  702. the way,

  703. sin

  704. to

  705. God

  706. Satan

  707. does

  708. not

  709. mind

  710. how

  711. small

  712. a sin

  713. he can

  714. get you

  715. to commit

  716. so long

  717. as you

  718. let that

  719. sin go

  720. unconfessed

  721. and

  722. unforsaken.

  723. Everyone

  724. will equally

  725. lead you

  726. to the

  727. pit.

  728. Sin

  729. brings

  730. death.

  731. I

  732. think

  733. about

  734. the

  735. statement,

  736. sin

  737. is an

  738. opportunistic

  739. virus

  740. that

  741. always

  742. destroys

  743. its

  744. host.

  745. Sin

  746. produces

  747. infection

  748. in our

  749. heart

  750. that

  751. leads

  752. to

  753. incredible

  754. heartache.

  755. This

  756. morning,

  757. I was

  758. listening

  759. to Caleb

  760. Perrin

  761. teach

  762. our

  763. young

  764. people.

  765. He

  766. was

  767. talking

  768. about

  769. how

  770. David

  771. ended

  772. up

  773. in

  774. such

  775. a

  776. disastrous

  777. situation

  778. with

  779. the

  780. wife

  781. of

  782. Uriah

  783. the

  784. Hittite.

  785. It

  786. was

  787. a

  788. clear

  789. exposition

  790. of how

  791. David

  792. made

  793. the

  794. journey

  795. and

  796. ended

  797. up

  798. being

  799. a

  800. murderer

  801. and

  802. an

  803. adulterer.

  804. And

  805. I have

  806. to tell

  807. you,

  808. don't

  809. ever

  810. think

  811. that

  812. David

  813. did

  814. not

  815. in

  816. the

  817. later

  818. time

  819. of

  820. his

  821. life

  822. have

  823. regrets

  824. about

  825. his

  826. sin.

  827. So let

  828. me

  829. say

  830. this

  831. practically

  832. speaking,

  833. I wonder

  834. this

  835. morning

  836. whether

  837. you

  838. take

  839. sin

  840. seriously.

  841. Do

  842. you

  843. fear

  844. it?

  845. Do

  846. you

  847. honestly

  848. fear

  849. it?

  850. Do

  851. you

  852. loathe

  853. it?

  854. Do

  855. you

  856. have

  857. a

  858. remember

  859. I

  860. talked

  861. about

  862. mowing

  863. and

  864. stepping

  865. in

  866. the

  867. wrong

  868. things

  869. in

  870. the

  871. yard?

  872. Most

  873. of

  874. us

  875. don't

  876. say

  877. hmm

  878. that's

  879. nice.

  880. It's

  881. like

  882. do

  883. you

  884. loathe

  885. it?

  886. Is

  887. there

  888. some

  889. kind

  890. of

  891. visceral

  892. reaction

  893. to

  894. sin

  895. in

  896. your

  897. man

  898. that

  899. was

  900. wrong?

  901. I

  902. gotta

  903. be

  904. honest

  905. boy

  906. it

  907. sounds

  908. like

  909. I'm

  910. not

  911. honest

  912. most

  913. of

  914. the

  915. time

  916. trying

  917. to

  918. do

  919. so

  920. now

  921. I'm

  922. gonna

  923. try

  924. it

  925. now.

  926. I

  927. I

  928. was

  929. born

  930. an

  931. incredibly

  932. moody

  933. self

  934. focused

  935. arrogant

  936. proud

  937. stubborn

  938. sinner

  939. and

  940. thankfully

  941. Jesus

  942. saved

  943. me

  944. and

  945. I'm

  946. hoping

  947. that

  948. as

  949. I

  950. get

  951. older

  952. I

  953. get

  954. better

  955. at

  956. being

  957. less

  958. sinful

  959. now

  960. being

  961. at

  962. the

  963. age

  964. I

  965. am

  966. I'm

  967. watching

  968. some

  969. people

  970. get

  971. older

  972. and

  973. older

  974. and

  975. older

  976. they

  977. get

  978. crotch

  979. eater

  980. and

  981. crotch

  982. eater

  983. and

  984. I'm

  985. asking

  986. myself

  987. Lord

  988. don't

  989. let

  990. that

  991. happen

  992. either

  993. take

  994. me

  995. home

  996. or

  997. change

  998. me

  999. but

  1000. I've

  1001. asked

  1002. my

  1003. wife

  1004. to

  1005. help

  1006. me

  1007. with

  1008. that

  1009. too

  1010. I

  1011. don't

  1012. want

  1013. to

  1014. be

  1015. an

  1016. old

  1017. person

  1018. who's

  1019. grumpy

  1020. all

  1021. the

  1022. time

  1023. I

  1024. gotta

  1025. tell

  1026. you

  1027. getting

  1028. old

  1029. is

  1030. not

  1031. half

  1032. as

  1033. much

  1034. fun

  1035. as

  1036. I

  1037. thought

  1038. it

  1039. would

  1040. be

  1041. but

  1042. being

  1043. grumpy

  1044. is

  1045. not

  1046. God's

  1047. answer

  1048. to

  1049. being

  1050. old

  1051. and

  1052. I

  1053. gotta

  1054. understand

  1055. that

  1056. the

  1057. attitude

  1058. you

  1059. have

  1060. towards

  1061. sin

  1062. is

  1063. going

  1064. to

  1065. end

  1066. up

  1067. determining

  1068. !

  1069. I

  1070. want

  1071. to be

  1072. that

  1073. way

  1074. I

  1075. want

  1076. to

  1077. have

  1078. a

  1079. sincere

  1080. passion

  1081. for

  1082. what

  1083. is

  1084. right

  1085. and

  1086. I

  1087. want

  1088. to

  1089. have

  1090. a

  1091. visceral

  1092. reaction

  1093. when

  1094. I

  1095. see

  1096. sin

  1097. in

  1098. Tim

  1099. Knoyer's

  1100. life

  1101. and

  1102. if

  1103. I

  1104. were

  1105. to

  1106. plead

  1107. with

  1108. Christ

  1109. to

  1110. do

  1111. a

  1112. work

  1113. in

  1114. your

  1115. hearts

  1116. as

  1117. people

  1118. of

  1119. this

  1120. fellowship

  1121. I

  1122. would

  1123. desire

  1124. to

  1125. see

  1126. you

  1127. grow

  1128. in

  1129. your

  1130. personal

  1131. hatred

  1132. for

  1133. your

  1134. own

  1135. sin

  1136. and

  1137. how

  1138. will

  1139. you

  1140. know

  1141. that

  1142. you're

  1143. making

  1144. progress

  1145. in

  1146. that

  1147. by

  1148. how

  1149. quickly

  1150. you

  1151. confess

  1152. and

  1153. how

  1154. earnestly

  1155. you

  1156. forsake

  1157. and

  1158. how

  1159. passionate

  1160. you

  1161. are

  1162. in

  1163. dealing

  1164. with

  1165. that

  1166. in

  1167. your

  1168. life

  1169. well

  1170. I'm

  1171. really

  1172. glad

  1173. that's

  1174. not

  1175. all

  1176. the

  1177. passage

  1178. has

  1179. let's

  1180. come to

  1181. the next

  1182. part

  1183. that is

  1184. even

  1185. much

  1186. better

  1187. okay

  1188. but if

  1189. anyone

  1190. does

  1191. sin

  1192. can

  1193. you

  1194. read

  1195. the

  1196. next

  1197. part

  1198. we

  1199. have

  1200. an

  1201. advocate

  1202. with

  1203. the

  1204. father

  1205. Jesus

  1206. Christ

  1207. the

  1208. righteous

  1209. now

  1210. listen

  1211. to me

  1212. the

  1213. significance

  1214. of the

  1215. problem

  1216. of

  1217. sin

  1218. can

  1219. be

  1220. balanced

  1221. out

  1222. so you

  1223. don't

  1224. think

  1225. sin's

  1226. a big

  1227. problem

  1228. well then

  1229. you don't

  1230. need a

  1231. big

  1232. advocate

  1233. but if

  1234. sin

  1235. is a

  1236. big

  1237. problem

  1238. then you

  1239. have

  1240. the

  1241. comfort

  1242. of the

  1243. remainder

  1244. of verse

  1245. one

  1246. which says

  1247. and if

  1248. we do

  1249. sin

  1250. we have

  1251. an

  1252. advocate

  1253. with

  1254. the

  1255. father

  1256. who

  1257. is

  1258. Jesus

  1259. Christ

  1260. the

  1261. righteous

  1262. so I

  1263. want us

  1264. to think

  1265. a little

  1266. bit

  1267. about

  1268. the

  1269. blessing

  1270. of his

  1271. advocacy

  1272. you see

  1273. Paul was

  1274. dealing

  1275. with

  1276. people

  1277. in the

  1278. church

  1279. who

  1280. were

  1281. deceiving

  1282. themselves

  1283. about

  1284. their

  1285. sin

  1286. problem

  1287. some

  1288. of you

  1289. never

  1290. heard me

  1291. preach

  1292. before

  1293. and you're

  1294. going to

  1295. go home

  1296. and someone's

  1297. going to

  1298. say

  1299. what did

  1300. you hear

  1301. at church

  1302. the guy

  1303. was all

  1304. over

  1305. sin

  1306. I'm

  1307. probably

  1308. not

  1309. going

  1310. back

  1311. but you

  1312. know

  1313. it's a

  1314. little

  1315. bit

  1316. like

  1317. it's

  1318. like

  1319. a

  1320. surgical

  1321. !

  1322. nurse

  1323. do you

  1324. follow me

  1325. in

  1326. surgery

  1327. how many

  1328. people care

  1329. about

  1330. infection

  1331. the

  1332. people

  1333. who

  1334. are

  1335. involved

  1336. in

  1337. surgery

  1338. really

  1339. want

  1340. the

  1341. people

  1342. that

  1343. come

  1344. into

  1345. the

  1346. surgery

  1347. room

  1348. to

  1349. go

  1350. out

  1351. pretty

  1352. safe

  1353. and I'm

  1354. interested

  1355. in you

  1356. going

  1357. out

  1358. safe

  1359. so

  1360. here's

  1361. John

  1362. writing

  1363. in

  1364. John

  1365. 1

  1366. he says

  1367. listen

  1368. if we

  1369. say

  1370. we

  1371. have

  1372. no

  1373. sin

  1374. we

  1375. deceive

  1376. ourselves

  1377. you're

  1378. fooling

  1379. yourself

  1380. if you

  1381. don't

  1382. think

  1383. you

  1384. have

  1385. a

  1386. problem

  1387. now

  1388. verse

  1389. chapter 2

  1390. I don't

  1391. want you

  1392. to sin

  1393. but if

  1394. you do

  1395. you have

  1396. an

  1397. advocate

  1398. what

  1399. is

  1400. an

  1401. advocate

  1402. the

  1403. Greek

  1404. word

  1405. is

  1406. used

  1407. here

  1408. is

  1409. not

  1410. a

  1411. word

  1412. that

  1413. is

  1414. easily

  1415. translated

  1416. into

  1417. English

  1418. stop

  1419. is

  1420. easy

  1421. you

  1422. get

  1423. it

  1424. stop

  1425. stop

  1426. but

  1427. the

  1428. word

  1429. that

  1430. is

  1431. used

  1432. here

  1433. is

  1434. a

  1435. word

  1436. that

  1437. if

  1438. you

  1439. were

  1440. to

  1441. compare

  1442. translations

  1443. you'd

  1444. have

  1445. advocate

  1446. you

  1447. would

  1448. have

  1449. helper

  1450. just

  1451. different

  1452. words

  1453. because

  1454. the

  1455. word

  1456. is

  1457. one

  1458. that

  1459. carries

  1460. with

  1461. it

  1462. a

  1463. lot

  1464. of

  1465. meaning

  1466. of

  1467. both

  1468. relationship

  1469. and

  1470. help

  1471. you

  1472. see

  1473. Jesus

  1474. is

  1475. the

  1476. one

  1477. who

  1478. when

  1479. we

  1480. sin

  1481. restores

  1482. our

  1483. hope

  1484. have

  1485. you

  1486. ever

  1487. felt

  1488. broken

  1489. by

  1490. the

  1491. sin

  1492. that

  1493. you've

  1494. committed

  1495. that's

  1496. it

  1497. I'm

  1498. done

  1499. you know

  1500. it's

  1501. worthless

  1502. Jesus

  1503. is

  1504. your

  1505. help

  1506. have

  1507. you

  1508. ever

  1509. found

  1510. yourself

  1511. just

  1512. kind

  1513. of

  1514. totally

  1515. discouraged

  1516. with

  1517. why

  1518. did

  1519. this

  1520. happen

  1521. again

  1522. I

  1523. mean

  1524. me

  1525. being

  1526. a

  1527. moody

  1528. person

  1529. is

  1530. like

  1531. I

  1532. don't

  1533. want

  1534. to

  1535. be

  1536. that

  1537. way

  1538. and

  1539. Jesus

  1540. is

  1541. my

  1542. comforter

  1543. he

  1544. is

  1545. the

  1546. one

  1547. who

  1548. revives

  1549. passion

  1550. he's

  1551. the

  1552. one

  1553. who

  1554. stirs

  1555. your

  1556. heart

  1557. with

  1558. a

  1559. longing

  1560. for

  1561. holiness

  1562. he's

  1563. the

  1564. one

  1565. that

  1566. leads

  1567. you

  1568. to

  1569. actually

  1570. have

  1571. a

  1572. hatred

  1573. for

  1574. sin

  1575. I

  1576. hate

  1577. it

  1578. I

  1579. hate

  1580. it

  1581. he's

  1582. the

  1583. one

  1584. that

  1585. stirs

  1586. your

  1587. desire

  1588. for

  1589. godliness

  1590. I

  1591. want you

  1592. to

  1593. understand

  1594. this

  1595. morning

  1596. that

  1597. no

  1598. believer

  1599. should

  1600. ever

  1601. feel

  1602. hopeless

  1603. and in

  1604. bondage

  1605. to

  1606. sin

  1607. and if

  1608. you're

  1609. here

  1610. this

  1611. morning

  1612. and

  1613. let me

  1614. put it

  1615. this way

  1616. if you're

  1617. here

  1618. this

  1619. morning

  1620. and

  1621. you're

  1622. not

  1623. dealing

  1624. with

  1625. sin

  1626. then

  1627. you're

  1628. either

  1629. dead

  1630. or

  1631. you're

  1632. insensitive

  1633. to

  1634. the

  1635. problem

  1636. and

  1637. if

  1638. you

  1639. are

  1640. here

  1641. and

  1642. you're

  1643. facing

  1644. the

  1645. reality

  1646. I've

  1647. got

  1648. to

  1649. struggle

  1650. with

  1651. sin

  1652. and

  1653. it's

  1654. not

  1655. something

  1656. I

  1657. like

  1658. having

  1659. I

  1660. want

  1661. to

  1662. welcome

  1663. you

  1664. to

  1665. remember

  1666. that

  1667. Jesus

  1668. is

  1669. your

  1670. advocate

  1671. and

  1672. your

  1673. ally

  1674. and

  1675. your

  1676. companion

  1677. and

  1678. your

  1679. helper

  1680. and

  1681. he

  1682. listen

  1683. to

  1684. me

  1685. he

  1686. is

  1687. actually

  1688. more

  1689. interested

  1690. in

  1691. you

  1692. having

  1693. victory

  1694. over

  1695. sin

  1696. than

  1697. you

  1698. are

  1699. why

  1700. is

  1701. that

  1702. because

  1703. he

  1704. paid

  1705. for

  1706. your

  1707. salvation

  1708. with

  1709. his

  1710. own

  1711. blood

  1712. you're

  1713. walking

  1714. advertisement

  1715. of what

  1716. he

  1717. can

  1718. do

  1719. with

  1720. a

  1721. ruined

  1722. mess

  1723. right

  1724. and

  1725. he's

  1726. all

  1727. over

  1728. that

  1729. and

  1730. so

  1731. this

  1732. morning

  1733. if

  1734. you

  1735. are

  1736. struggling

  1737. with

  1738. that

  1739. battle

  1740. with

  1741. sin

  1742. I

  1743. want

  1744. you

  1745. to

  1746. know

  1747. that

  1748. Jesus

  1749. is

  1750. your

  1751. mediator

  1752. he

  1753. is

  1754. your

  1755. advocate

  1756. he

  1757. is

  1758. your

  1759. ally

  1760. there's

  1761. something

  1762. else

  1763. that we

  1764. find

  1765. there

  1766. in

  1767. the

  1768. passage

  1769. !

  1770. verse 2

  1771. it says

  1772. he

  1773. is

  1774. the

  1775. propitiation

  1776. for

  1777. our

  1778. sins

  1779. now

  1780. I

  1781. would

  1782. not

  1783. ask

  1784. ten

  1785. of

  1786. you

  1787. to

  1788. read

  1789. that

  1790. out

  1791. to

  1792. get

  1793. that

  1794. pronunciation

  1795. right

  1796. you

  1797. know

  1798. three

  1799. years

  1800. in

  1801. seminary

  1802. and

  1803. I

  1804. got

  1805. it

  1806. he

  1807. is

  1808. the

  1809. propitiation

  1810. for

  1811. our

  1812. sins

  1813. you

  1814. got

  1815. it

  1816. what's

  1817. that

  1818. mean

  1819. well

  1820. in

  1821. broad

  1822. terms

  1823. it

  1824. means

  1825. that

  1826. Jesus

  1827. has

  1828. satisfied

  1829. the

  1830. righteous

  1831. judgment

  1832. of

  1833. God

  1834. against

  1835. my

  1836. sins

  1837. what's

  1838. the

  1839. consequence

  1840. that

  1841. and the

  1842. reality

  1843. of this

  1844. is that

  1845. when

  1846. Jesus

  1847. died

  1848. on the

  1849. cross

  1850. he

  1851. satisfied

  1852. the

  1853. debt

  1854. my

  1855. sin

  1856. had

  1857. created

  1858. and

  1859. God

  1860. poured

  1861. out

  1862. on

  1863. Jesus

  1864. the

  1865. full

  1866. measure

  1867. of

  1868. wrath

  1869. that

  1870. I

  1871. deserved

  1872. and

  1873. will

  1874. ever

  1875. deserve

  1876. I

  1877. think

  1878. about

  1879. the

  1880. words

  1881. of

  1882. the

  1883. song

  1884. it

  1885. says

  1886. my

  1887. sin

  1888. not

  1889. in

  1890. part

  1891. but

  1892. the

  1893. whole

  1894. is

  1895. nailed

  1896. to

  1897. the

  1898. cross

  1899. and

  1900. I

  1901. what

  1902. I

  1903. bear

  1904. it

  1905. no

  1906. more

  1907. I

  1908. wonder

  1909. whether

  1910. or

  1911. not

  1912. when

  1913. you

  1914. find

  1915. yourselves

  1916. struggling

  1917. with

  1918. the

  1919. shame

  1920. and

  1921. guilt

  1922. of

  1923. sin

  1924. if

  1925. you

  1926. don't

  1927. remind

  1928. yourself

  1929. that

  1930. Jesus

  1931. died

  1932. for

  1933. you

  1934. and

  1935. he

  1936. delivered

  1937. you

  1938. from

  1939. that

  1940. slavery

  1941. and

  1942. he

  1943. is

  1944. the

  1945. propitiation

  1946. he

  1947. is

  1948. the

  1949. satisfaction

  1950. for

  1951. your

  1952. sin

  1953. problem

  1954. I

  1955. have

  1956. to

  1957. confess

  1958. this

  1959. morning

  1960. that

  1961. if

  1962. I

  1963. were

  1964. to

  1965. be

  1966. given

  1967. about

  1968. four

  1969. more

  1970. weeks

  1971. these

  1972. six

  1973. verses

  1974. I

  1975. could

  1976. stay

  1977. in

  1978. without

  1979. any

  1980. problem

  1981. we

  1982. could

  1983. deal

  1984. with

  1985. who

  1986. did

  1987. Jesus

  1988. die

  1989. for

  1990. and

  1991. that

  1992. would

  1993. be

  1994. legitimate

  1995. conversation

  1996. but

  1997. we're

  1998. not

  1999. going

  2000. to

  2001. we're

  2002. going

  2003. to

  2004. come

  2005. now

  2006. to

  2007. the

  2008. last

  2009. part

  2010. and

  2011. that

  2012. is

  2013. what

  2014. we

  2015. find

  2016. there

  2017. in

  2018. verse

  2019. three

  2020. four

  2021. five

  2022. and

  2023. six

  2024. and

  2025. let

  2026. me

  2027. kind

  2028. of

  2029. help

  2030. you

  2031. understand

  2032. that

  2033. one

  2034. of

  2035. the

  2036. things

  2037. that

  2038. John's

  2039. letter

  2040. aims

  2041. at

  2042. is

  2043. helping

  2044. the

  2045. believer

  2046. figure

  2047. out

  2048. the

  2049. authenticity

  2050. of

  2051. their

  2052. I ask

  2053. people

  2054. so

  2055. do

  2056. you

  2057. know

  2058. Jesus

  2059. well

  2060. of

  2061. course

  2062. I

  2063. know

  2064. Jesus

  2065. I

  2066. grew

  2067. up

  2068. in

  2069. America

  2070. no

  2071. no

  2072. no

  2073. that's

  2074. not

  2075. what

  2076. I'm

  2077. asking

  2078. do

  2079. you

  2080. know

  2081. Jesus

  2082. well

  2083. yeah

  2084. I

  2085. was

  2086. baptized

  2087. do

  2088. you

  2089. know

  2090. have

  2091. you

  2092. come

  2093. first

  2094. of

  2095. all

  2096. as a

  2097. bankrupt

  2098. sinner

  2099. said

  2100. my

  2101. life

  2102. is

  2103. an

  2104. absolute

  2105. mess

  2106. and

  2107. I

  2108. can't

  2109. do

  2110. anything

  2111. about

  2112. it

  2113. but

  2114. I

  2115. believe

  2116. Jesus

  2117. died

  2118. for

  2119. my

  2120. sins

  2121. and

  2122. I

  2123. trust

  2124. him

  2125. as

  2126. my

  2127. savior

  2128. well

  2129. John

  2130. writes

  2131. to help

  2132. us

  2133. confirm

  2134. our

  2135. relationship

  2136. to figure

  2137. out

  2138. are

  2139. we

  2140. really

  2141. saved

  2142. and

  2143. I

  2144. think

  2145. it's

  2146. appropriate

  2147. to check

  2148. your birth

  2149. certificate

  2150. every now

  2151. and then

  2152. to say

  2153. do

  2154. I

  2155. know

  2156. him

  2157. well

  2158. here's

  2159. what we

  2160. see

  2161. there

  2162. in

  2163. the

  2164. passage

  2165. verse

  2166. three

  2167. and

  2168. by

  2169. this

  2170. we

  2171. know

  2172. that

  2173. we

  2174. have

  2175. come

  2176. to

  2177. know

  2178. him

  2179. if

  2180. we

  2181. keep

  2182. his

  2183. commandments

  2184. I'm

  2185. going

  2186. to

  2187. try

  2188. a

  2189. little

  2190. bit

  2191. of

  2192. math

  2193. here

  2194. so

  2195. bear

  2196. with

  2197. me

  2198. just

  2199. so

  2200. you

  2201. know

  2202. do

  2203. you

  2204. know

  2205. what

  2206. a

  2207. hypotenuse

  2208. triangle

  2209. is

  2210. there

  2211. are

  2212. some

  2213. of

  2214. you

  2215. that

  2216. say

  2217. no

  2218. I

  2219. have

  2220. no

  2221. idea

  2222. there

  2223. are

  2224. some

  2225. of

  2226. you

  2227. saying

  2228. absolutely

  2229. I

  2230. got

  2231. that

  2232. well

  2233. in

  2234. the

  2235. process

  2236. of

  2237. constructing

  2238. our

  2239. what

  2240. I

  2241. think

  2242. is

  2243. our

  2244. last

  2245. remodel

  2246. I've

  2247. been

  2248. you're

  2249. laughing

  2250. at

  2251. me

  2252. I've

  2253. been

  2254. working

  2255. a

  2256. lot

  2257. on

  2258. trying

  2259. to

  2260. figure

  2261. out

  2262. how

  2263. I

  2264. know

  2265. that

  2266. walls

  2267. are

  2268. at

  2269. right

  2270. angles

  2271. to

  2272. another

  2273. wall

  2274. you know

  2275. it's

  2276. inappropriate

  2277. because

  2278. you get

  2279. on the

  2280. far

  2281. side

  2282. of

  2283. the

  2284. room

  2285. and

  2286. you

  2287. wonder

  2288. why

  2289. the

  2290. trim

  2291. is

  2292. not

  2293. working

  2294. and

  2295. all

  2296. that

  2297. kind

  2298. of

  2299. stuff

  2300. so

  2301. hypotenuse

  2302. how many

  2303. of you

  2304. understand

  2305. the

  2306. little

  2307. mathematical

  2308. equation

  2309. of

  2310. three

  2311. four

  2312. five

  2313. see

  2314. you

  2315. can

  2316. think

  2317. you've

  2318. got

  2319. it

  2320. right

  2321. but

  2322. then

  2323. you

  2324. stretch

  2325. the

  2326. tape

  2327. measure

  2328. across

  2329. the

  2330. hypotenuse

  2331. and you

  2332. find out

  2333. I'm

  2334. not

  2335. there

  2336. so

  2337. John

  2338. gives

  2339. us

  2340. a way

  2341. of

  2342. figuring

  2343. out

  2344. if

  2345. we're

  2346. really

  2347. there

  2348. or

  2349. not

  2350. here's

  2351. the

  2352. passage

  2353. and

  2354. by

  2355. this

  2356. we

  2357. know

  2358. that

  2359. we

  2360. have

  2361. come

  2362. to

  2363. know

  2364. him

  2365. if

  2366. we

  2367. keep

  2368. his

  2369. commandments

  2370. my

  2371. relationship

  2372. is

  2373. confirmed

  2374. it's

  2375. documented

  2376. it's

  2377. verified

  2378. by my

  2379. desire

  2380. to

  2381. obey

  2382. him

  2383. hey

  2384. keeping

  2385. his

  2386. commandments

  2387. doesn't

  2388. get me

  2389. there

  2390. keeping

  2391. his

  2392. commandments

  2393. doesn't

  2394. keep

  2395. me

  2396. there

  2397. keeping

  2398. his

  2399. commandments

  2400. just

  2401. helps

  2402. me

  2403. know

  2404. I

  2405. am

  2406. there

  2407. and

  2408. so

  2409. here's

  2410. John

  2411. saying

  2412. hey

  2413. listen

  2414. obedience

  2415. confirms

  2416. our

  2417. salvation

  2418. and

  2419. it's

  2420. appropriate

  2421. for you

  2422. who are

  2423. sitting

  2424. here

  2425. this

  2426. morning

  2427. in

  2428. the

  2429. ongoing

  2430. journey

  2431. of

  2432. life

  2433. to

  2434. ask

  2435. yourself

  2436. so

  2437. what

  2438. is

  2439. my

  2440. heart's

  2441. attitude

  2442. towards

  2443. his

  2444. word

  2445. do

  2446. I

  2447. really

  2448. want

  2449. to

  2450. obey

  2451. him

  2452. or

  2453. am

  2454. I

  2455. so

  2456. full

  2457. of

  2458. myself

  2459. that

  2460. when

  2461. I

  2462. sin

  2463. I

  2464. think

  2465. it's

  2466. everybody

  2467. else's

  2468. fault

  2469. and

  2470. if

  2471. they

  2472. change

  2473. I

  2474. be

  2475. okay

  2476. if

  2477. we

  2478. say

  2479. that

  2480. we

  2481. are

  2482. a

  2483. believer

  2484. but

  2485. we

  2486. have

  2487. no

  2488. interest

  2489. in

  2490. obeying

  2491. his

  2492. word

  2493. and

  2494. we

  2495. really

  2496. don't

  2497. care

  2498. what

  2499. he

  2500. wants

  2501. there's

  2502. a good

  2503. reason

  2504. to

  2505. question

  2506. whether

  2507. or not

  2508. we

  2509. really

  2510. have

  2511. what

  2512. we

  2513. think

  2514. we

  2515. do

  2516. I

  2517. got

  2518. to

  2519. tell

  2520. you

  2521. this

  2522. Satan

  2523. specializes

  2524. in

  2525. deception

  2526. make

  2527. sense

  2528. Satan

  2529. specializes

  2530. in

  2531. deception

  2532. I

  2533. think

  2534. it was

  2535. Wednesday

  2536. I'm

  2537. working

  2538. on my

  2539. computer

  2540. and up

  2541. pops

  2542. this

  2543. little

  2544. thing

  2545. says

  2546. you

  2547. need

  2548. immediately

  2549. it

  2550. came

  2551. right

  2552. out

  2553. over

  2554. blanked

  2555. everything

  2556. else

  2557. on my

  2558. screen

  2559. you

  2560. immediately

  2561. need

  2562. to

  2563. call

  2564. this

  2565. number

  2566. because

  2567. you've

  2568. been

  2569. infected

  2570. with

  2571. a

  2572. virus

  2573. and

  2574. blah

  2575. blah

  2576. blah

  2577. blah

  2578. blah

  2579. blah

  2580. now

  2581. at

  2582. my

  2583. age

  2584. I

  2585. figured

  2586. I'm

  2587. not

  2588. sure

  2589. so

  2590. I

  2591. called

  2592. Pastor

  2593. Saul

  2594. I

  2595. have

  2596. this

  2597. I

  2598. was

  2599. trying

  2600. to

  2601. study

  2602. for

  2603. Wednesday

  2604. night

  2605. and

  2606. you

  2607. know

  2608. I'm

  2609. under

  2610. a

  2611. deadline

  2612. and

  2613. he

  2614. says

  2615. it

  2616. was

  2617. gone

  2618. and

  2619. sure

  2620. enough

  2621. I

  2622. didn't

  2623. have

  2624. a

  2625. virus

  2626. Satan

  2627. is

  2628. a

  2629. specialist

  2630. in

  2631. deception

  2632. and

  2633. there

  2634. are

  2635. some

  2636. he is

  2637. deceiving

  2638. Satan

  2639. loves

  2640. that

  2641. and so

  2642. we come to

  2643. one other

  2644. little issue

  2645. there in

  2646. verse 6

  2647. whoever says

  2648. he abides

  2649. in him

  2650. ought to

  2651. walk in

  2652. the same

  2653. way in

  2654. which he

  2655. walked

  2656. what's

  2657. that

  2658. saying

  2659. if

  2660. you

  2661. really

  2662. have

  2663. the

  2664. relationship

  2665. that's

  2666. marked

  2667. by

  2668. communion

  2669. it's

  2670. reasonable

  2671. to

  2672. expect

  2673. that

  2674. your

  2675. walk

  2676. matches

  2677. his

  2678. walk

  2679. so

  2680. that

  2681. brings

  2682. me

  2683. full

  2684. circle

  2685. to

  2686. the

  2687. verse

  2688. I

  2689. started

  2690. with

  2691. how

  2692. many

  2693. of you

  2694. remember

  2695. it

  2696. huh

  2697. Psalm

    Psalms 45:7

  2698. 45

  2699. verse 7

  2700. also

  2701. recited

  2702. in

  2703. Hebrews

    Hebrews 1:9

  2704. chapter

  2705. 1

  2706. verse

  2707. 9

  2708. thou

  2709. hast

  2710. loved

  2711. righteousness

  2712. and hated

  2713. iniquity

  2714. listen

  2715. the

  2716. characteristic

  2717. of a

  2718. growing

  2719. believer

  2720. is a

  2721. progressive

  2722. desire

  2723. for

  2724. holiness

  2725. and a

  2726. greater

  2727. hatred

  2728. for

  2729. personal

  2730. sin

  2731. how you

  2732. doing

  2733. are you

  2734. on the

  2735. uphill

  2736. journey

  2737. or are

  2738. you

  2739. fooling

  2740. yourself

  2741. that's

  2742. why

  2743. John

  2744. wrote

  2745. to help

  2746. us

  2747. with

  2748. self

  2749. diagnosis

  2750. by the

  2751. way

  2752. wouldn't

  2753. you

  2754. rather

  2755. deal

  2756. with

  2757. self

  2758. diagnosis

  2759. than

  2760. having

  2761. him

  2762. bring

  2763. somebody

  2764. else

  2765. along

  2766. to

  2767. help

  2768. you

  2769. and

  2770. all

  2771. God's

  2772. people

  2773. said

  2774. preach

  2775. it

  2776. brother

  2777. I

  2778. need

  2779. that

  2780. okay

  2781. let's

  2782. close

  2783. in

  2784. prayer

  2785. father

  2786. your

  2787. word

  2788. is a

  2789. light

  2790. and a

  2791. lamp

  2792. to our

  2793. feet

  2794. your

  2795. word

  2796. is what

  2797. convicts

  2798. and encourages

  2799. us

  2800. your

  2801. word

  2802. is what

  2803. draws

  2804. us

  2805. to have

  2806. a

  2807. desire

  2808. for

  2809. the

  2810. Lord

  2811. Jesus

  2812. Christ

  2813. and

  2814. his

  2815. glory

  2816. and

  2817. we're

  2818. thankful

  2819. that

  2820. it

  2821. makes

  2822. clear

  2823. to

  2824. us

  2825. as

  2826. believers

  2827. that

  2828. the

  2829. walk

  2830. of

  2831. faith

  2832. is

  2833. one

  2834. that

  2835. is

  2836. marked

  2837. by

  2838. a

  2839. growing

  2840. desire

  2841. for

  2842. holiness

  2843. and

  2844. godliness

  2845. and

  2846. purity

  2847. and

  2848. a

  2849. hatred

  2850. a

  2851. visceral

  2852. hatred

  2853. for

  2854. sin

  2855. let that

  2856. be

  2857. true

  2858. in

  2859. us

  2860. today

  2861. we

  2862. ask

  2863. us

  2864. in

  2865. Jesus

  2866. name

  2867. amen
