  1. Good morning.

  2. This morning, in honor of our Chinese friends, I would like to start with a Chinese story.

  3. ! It's the story of Liang Shanbo yu Juyingtai.

  4. Now, in English, you can call it the story of the butterfly lovers.

  5. Juyingtai, who let's call Julie, okay?

  6. Julie was the only daughter of a wealthy family.

  7. And at that time, young women were not encouraged to take up scholarly pursuits.

  8. But Julie convinces her father to let her go to school disguised as a young man.

  9. And so, Julie, on her way to school, which was pretty far from her home,

  10. meets a young man along the way, Liang Shanbo.

  11. Let's call him Leon, okay?

  12. So, Julie meets Leon, and they begin to talk.

  13. And they find out they're going to be classmates.

  14. And so, they talk as they walk along the way.

  15. And very quickly, their hearts are drawn to each other.

  16. They actually stop on the way and take an oath of brotherhood.

  17. For three years, Julie and Leon study together.

  18. Now, Leon was very focused on his studies.

  19. And so, he doesn't even notice that Julie is a young lady.

  20. Julie, though, very soon finds herself falling in love with Leon.

  21. Then, suddenly, one day, she gets a letter.

  22. Julie gets a letter from her father saying she must come home right away.

  23. And so, she has no choice but to pack everything up and say goodbye to Leon.

  24. But she's already decided in her heart that she loves him and wants to be with him forever.

  25. Now, Leon, being the good friend he is, decides to walk about 18 miles with Julie to see her off.

  26. All along the way, Julie is trying to subtly reveal to Leon that she's a young lady.

  27. But Leon doesn't pick up on any of the clues.

  28. So, finally, her last effort, as they're about to part, is she says,

  29. Leon, when you finish school, come visit me and I will be a matchmaker and set you up with my sister.

  30. Well, Leon's very excited because he thinks, well, he'll get a wife and his close friend.

  31. And they can be family.

  32. So, about a year passes until Leon's finally able to come and visit Julie.

  33. But when he arrives, Julie quickly runs out and confesses to him,

  34. It's me. I'm really a woman.

  35. Well, Leon suddenly is kind of overwhelmed with a sense of love for her.

  36. And he thinks, this is the best possibility.

  37. And they make this commitment to each other, kind of like until death do us part.

  38. And so, they hurry quickly to Julie's father so that Leon can ask for her hand in marriage.

  39. Unfortunately, their excitement is very short-lived because Julie's father reveals to both of them that he has already promised her in marriage to a wealthy merchant.

  40. Leon is depressed and brokenhearted.

  41. He goes home and over time his health gets worse and finally he dies from a broken heart.

  42. And Julie agrees to marry the wealthy merchant.

  43. But there's one condition.

  44. She will only marry him if her wedding processional can pass by Leon's grave.

  45. And so, it's agreed to.

  46. And on the day of her wedding, her wedding processional is passing by Leon's grave.

  47. When suddenly, there's a strong wind that causes them to stop.

  48. And Julie sees her chance.

  49. She runs from the wedding party to Leon's grave.

  50. And she falls down and begs that the grave would open up.

  51. And miraculously, the grave splits open.

  52. Without a second thought, Julie throws herself into the grave.

  53. And all of the wedding party runs up and looks into the grave.

  54. And all they see is Leon and Julie's spirits emerge as a pair of butterflies.

  55. To fly off and be together, never to be separated again.

  56. Isn't it interesting how every culture has its own set of love stories?

  57. I'm sure probably none of you had heard that story before.

  58. But all of you have, right?

  59. You know, every culture has love stories.

  60. And often, there are love stories that are about sacrificial love or tragic things happening.

  61. But our hearts are so easily caught up in the story that we really don't care if it makes sense or if it's impossible.

  62. It doesn't matter to us if it's immoral or foolish.

  63. Our hearts are so moved that we quickly find some beauty in the story.

  64. You guys know that.

  65. You can think about plenty of stories.

  66. Whether it's like Mark Anthony and Cleopatra or Romeo and Juliet.

  67. The hunchback of Notre Dame.

  68. Sir Lancelot, Queen Guinevere.

  69. Even more modern, like Jack and Rose from the Titanic, right?

  70. You see, there's just something in us that connects with these love stories.

  71. And I think it's because in all of our hearts, we desire to be loved that way.

  72. To find someone that will love us sacrificially.

  73. Someone that is willing to give up everything, even life itself, because they love us so much.

  74. This morning, we're going to talk about the world's greatest love story.

  75. And the good news is, it's true.

  76. We're looking at 1 John chapter 4, verses 7 through 12.

    1 John 4:7–12

  77. In 2024, verse 24, verse 24, verse 24, verse 24, verse 24.

  78. 4, 7 through 12.

  79. It says,

  80. Beloved, let us love one another.

  81. For love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God.

  82. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

  83. In this, the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world,

  84. so that we might live through him.

  85. In this is love.

  86. Not that we have loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

  87. Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

  88. No one has ever seen God.

  89. If we love one another, God abides in us, and his love is perfected in us.

  90. Let's pray.

  91. Father, we thank you that you have written us a love story,

  92. that you have shown us your love.

  93. Father, I ask that you would open our hearts and our minds

  94. to see the beauty of your word,

  95. to see the beauty of this love story before us,

  96. and that our hearts would be caught,

  97. and that we would rejoice in the fact that we are loved by you.

  98. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

  99. We're going to look at this love story,

  100. and on the back of your bulletin,

  101. you can take notes if you want to. It might help.

  102. The first thing we're going to look at is the characters in this love story.

  103. The characters in this love story.

  104. And the main character you'll see very quickly is God.

  105. If you read that passage,

  106. it's a huge number of times that we see the word God.

  107. If you count up all the pronouns and everything,

  108. I think it's about 13 times.

  109. God is the main character,

  110. and if you include his son, it's even more than that.

  111. And notice what we learn in these verses about God.

  112. It tells us God is the source of love.

  113. In verse 7, we see it says love is from God.

  114. God is the source of love.

  115. It also tells us something even bigger than that.

  116. That God is love.

  117. In verse 8, God is love.

  118. Now, I think we should stop for a minute and clarify.

  119. There really are two kinds of love.

  120. There are two kinds of love.

  121. The first is self-centered love.

  122. Now, think about it.

  123. We say, I love pizza.

  124. Or, I love sleeping.

  125. I love my job.

  126. Even, I love you.

  127. But think about when you say that,

  128. what does it really mean?

  129. It means, I really enjoy eating pizza.

  130. I really like the way sleeping makes me feel.

  131. I find my job is very satisfying.

  132. Or, I like my colleagues.

  133. Or, it pays me a lot of money.

  134. And, even when we say, I love you,

  135. much of the time, what we really mean is,

  136. I love the way you make me feel.

  137. You see, at the center of all of those uses of love

  138. is myself.

  139. It's all about me.

  140. Right?

  141. Doe, but doe.

  142. Doe.

  143. But, there's a second kind of love.

  144. It's God-centered love.

  145. It's God-centered love.

  146. And, if we looked at this in the original language,

  147. which is Greek,

  148. it was written in Greek,

  149. we would see the word here is agape.

  150. That's the Greek word used for love.

  151. Agape.

  152. Agape.

  153. And, agape is a very special word for Bible writers.

  154. They used the word agape to talk about the love that God has.

  155. It's a love that's focused on others, not on self.

  156. Probably the best description we find of that kind of love

  157. is in 1 Corinthians 13, verses 4 through 8.

    1 Corinthians 13:4–8

  158. 1 Corinthians 13, verses 4 through 8.

    1 Corinthians 13:4–8

  159. It says,

  160. And, when we're talking about love today,

  161. that's the kind of love we're talking about.

  162. A God-centered love.

  163. A love that is not focused on me,

  164. and what do I get,

  165. but a love that is focused on others,

  166. and on doing whatever is best for others,

  167. no matter what the cost.

  168. We also see about God in verses 10 and 11,

  169. that God loves us.

  170. Or, we see in 10 through 12,

  171. that God desires an intimate relationship with us.

  172. But God's not the only character in this story.

  173. Let's look at the secondary characters.

  174. That would be you and me.

  175. You and me.

  176. Notice it talks a lot in this verse about you or us or we.

  177. And it shows us several things that are important.

  178. We see one,

  179. we need help loving.

  180. We need help loving.

  181. In verses 7 and 8,

  182. it tells us God is the source of love,

  183. and that we can only love this way

  184. if we get that love from God.

  185. We can't love that way on our own.

  186. It also shows us that we need help living.

  187. In verse 9,

  188. Notice it talks about that God sent His only Son into the world

  189. so that we might live through Him.

  190. We need help living.

  191. We can't even live right on our own.

  192. Notice in verse 10,

  193. it says,

  194. We don't love God.

  195. We don't love God.

  196. Verse 10,

  197. In this is love,

  198. not that we loved God.

  199. Let's look at another passage in Romans chapter 3.

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  200. Romans chapter 3,

    Romans 3:10–18

  201. verses 10 through 18.

  202. Romans 3, 10 through 18.

  203. And it says,

  204. As the scriptures say,

  205. No one is righteous,

  206. not even one.

  207. No one is truly wise.

  208. No one is seeking God.

  209. All have turned away.

  210. All have become useless.

  211. No one does good,

  212. not a single one.

  213. Their talk is foul,

  214. like the stench from an open grave.

  215. Their tongues are filled with lies.

  216. Snake venom drips from their lips.

  217. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.

  218. They rush to commit murder.

  219. Destruction and misery always follow them.

  220. They don't know where to find peace,

  221. for they have no fear of God at all.

  222. You see, we don't love God.

  223. We also see, in verse 10,

  224. that we have sin that has separated us from God.

  225. We have sin that has separated us from God.

  226. It says,

  227. But God loved us and sent his Son

  228. to be the propitiation for our sins.

  229. Now, propitiation is a big word.

  230. But what it basically means

  231. is that we have done something wrong

  232. and caused someone to be angry.

  233. And something must be done

  234. to take away that anger

  235. and restore our relationship,

  236. to fix our guanxi.

  237. Let's look at Romans chapter 1,

    Romans 1:18–32

  238. verses 18 through 32.

  239. It says,

  240. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven

  241. against all ungodliness

  242. and unrighteousness of men,

  243. who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

  244. For what can be known about God is plain to them,

  245. because God has shown it to them.

  246. For his invisible attributes,

  247. namely, his eternal power and divine nature,

  248. have been clearly perceived

  249. ever since the creation of the world

  250. in the things that have been made.

  251. So they are without excuse.

  252. For although they knew God,

  253. they did not honor him as God

  254. or give thanks to him,

  255. but they became futile in their thinking.

  256. And their foolish hearts were darkened.

  257. Claiming to be wise,

  258. they became fools

  259. and exchanged the glory of the immortal God

  260. for images resembling mortal man

  261. and birds and animals

  262. and creeping things.

  263. Therefore God gave them up

  264. in the lusts of their hearts

  265. to impurity,

  266. to the dishonoring of their bodies

  267. among themselves,

  268. because they exchanged the truth about God

  269. for a lie

  270. and worshiped and served the creature

  271. rather than the creator,

  272. who is blessed forever.

  273. For this reason,

  274. God gave them up

  275. to dishonorable passions,

  276. for their women exchanged natural relations

  277. for those that are contrary to nature.

  278. And the men likewise

  279. gave up natural relations with women

  280. and were consumed with passion

  281. for one another,

  282. men committing shameless acts with men

  283. and receiving in themselves

  284. the due penalty for their error.

  285. And since they did not see fit

  286. to acknowledge God,

  287. God gave them up

  288. to a debased mind

  289. to do what ought not to be done.

  290. They were filled with all manners

  291. of unrighteousness,

  292. evil,

  293. covetousness,

  294. malice.

  295. They're full of envy,

  296. murder,

  297. strife,

  298. deceit,

  299. maliciousness.

  300. They're gossips,

  301. slanderers,

  302. haters of God,

  303. insolent,

  304. haughty,

  305. boastful,

  306. inventors of evil,

  307. disobedient to parents,

  308. foolish,

  309. faithless,

  310. heartless,

  311. ruthless.

  312. Though they know God's righteous decree

  313. that those who practice such things

  314. deserve to die,

  315. they not only do them,

  316. but give approval to those who practice them.

  317. So our sin has separated us from God.

  318. So that's the characters.

  319. We have God and his son.

  320. He is the source of love.

  321. He is love.

  322. He wants to pour that love out

  323. and be in relationship with us.

  324. And we have us.

  325. We are in need of help loving,

  326. of help living.

  327. We are not lovers of God

  328. and our sin has separated us from him.

  329. Now let's talk about the plot of the story.

  330. The plot of this love story

  331. is summarized in verses 9 through 10.

  332. 9 through 10,

  333. where it says,

  334. In this the love of God

  335. was made manifest among us,

  336. that God sent his only son into the world

  337. so we might live through him.

  338. In this is love,

  339. not that we've loved God,

  340. but he loved us and sent his son

  341. to be the propitiation for our sins.

  342. The truth is,

  343. even in these two verses,

  344. we find probably

  345. one of the most clear summaries

  346. of the entire Bible.

  347. In those two verses,

  348. all of the essence of God's love story to us

  349. is there.

  350. Very short, very quick,

  351. but it's all there.

  352. The best way to understand God's love story

  353. is to read the whole book.

  354. It will take us 80 hours.

  355. Let's begin.

  356. Since we don't have 80 hours,

  357. I thought the best thing I could do

  358. is to tell you a story.

  359. A story that will give you

  360. a little more summary

  361. of God's love story to us.

  362. It's the story of the great emperor.

  363. There was a great and glorious emperor,

  364. Shang Di,

  365. who ruled over a perfect and wonderful kingdom.

  366. He provided everything his people needed.

  367. He treated them like they were all his own children.

  368. Even the laws that he had

  369. were written for the good of the people.

  370. However, the people chose to be selfish.

  371. They wanted more than perfection.

  372. You see, they believed in themselves,

  373. and they thought they should be able

  374. to be their own emperor.

  375. They wanted to do whatever they wanted,

  376. anytime they wanted.

  377. Well, the emperor told them,

  378. if you want to live this way,

  379. it's not good for you,

  380. and you'll have to leave the kingdom.

  381. So the rebellious people left.

  382. They moved out to the place

  383. where the kingdom dumped all of its trash

  384. and lived on a giant pile of trash.

  385. And without the emperor

  386. to lovingly rule over them,

  387. the people began to use each other.

  388. They would lie to each other

  389. and steal from each other.

  390. They actually would find ways

  391. to hurt each other

  392. in any way imagined.

  393. And not only that,

  394. but living on the trash pile

  395. caused them to get sicknesses

  396. and diseases

  397. and many other problems started.

  398. The emperor could see all of this

  399. from his palace.

  400. Even though he was angry

  401. because of their actions,

  402. he still loved them

  403. and cared for him.

  404. He would send out food,

  405. water, medicine,

  406. and other things

  407. that they needed.

  408. And even though

  409. the people

  410. should have been thankful

  411. for all the emperor was doing,

  412. they ignored him.

  413. Instead,

  414. they chose new rulers,

  415. new leaders,

  416. and they thanked

  417. these new leaders

  418. and they worshipped

  419. these new leaders

  420. even for the very things

  421. that the emperor

  422. was sending to them.

  423. The way that the people lived

  424. dishonored and shamed

  425. the emperor.

  426. And the emperor

  427. would send out

  428. workers from the palace

  429. to remind the people

  430. of all the good

  431. the emperor offered them,

  432. to challenge them,

  433. to turn away

  434. from their selfish living,

  435. and to restore

  436. their relationship

  437. with the emperor,

  438. to return to his kingdom.

  439. Yet,

  440. every time

  441. one of the emperor's people

  442. came out

  443. to the trash people,

  444. the trash people

  445. would grab them

  446. and torture them

  447. and kill them.

  448. One day,

  449. the emperor's only son,

  450. the prince,

  451. came to him

  452. and said,

  453. Father,

  454. I know that you love

  455. these people,

  456. even though

  457. they turned away from you.

  458. They've lived selfish,

  459. terrible lives.

  460. They've brought shame

  461. on you

  462. and your kingdom.

  463. I know that you love them.

  464. So,

  465. I want to go out

  466. and live with them.

  467. I will spend my life

  468. teaching them

  469. the truths

  470. about you

  471. and your love

  472. that they have forgotten.

  473. And in the end,

  474. I will take

  475. the punishment

  476. that they deserve

  477. for their actions

  478. so that they can be

  479. restored to our kingdom.

  480. Even though

  481. the emperor

  482. loved his son,

  483. more than can be described,

  484. more than can be described,

  485. he honored

  486. his son's desire

  487. and let him go

  488. to live among

  489. the trash people.

  490. Every day,

  491. the emperor would watch

  492. from the palace

  493. as his son

  494. lived among

  495. the trash people.

  496. He watched

  497. as the prince

  498. would love them

  499. and care for them

  500. and teach them

  501. about the emperor's kingdom.

  502. And every day

  503. that passed,

  504. more and more

  505. of the trash people

  506. became sorry

  507. for the way

  508. they had treated

  509. the emperor,

  510. how they had

  511. dishonored him

  512. and brought shame

  513. upon themselves

  514. and their kingdom

  515. and wanted to change

  516. how they were living.

  517. However,

  518. the trash people's

  519. hearts were changing

  520. and the leaders

  521. saw that.

  522. They began to hate

  523. the prince

  524. even more

  525. than they hated

  526. the emperor.

  527. And as their hatred

  528. grew,

  529. they began to plan

  530. how they would

  531. destroy the prince,

  532. the emperor's

  533. precious son.

  534. The emperor

  535. watched all of

  536. these things happen

  537. day by day.

  538. And then

  539. at the perfect moment,

  540. the emperor

  541. went to the trash pile.

  542. Everyone gathered

  543. together

  544. and the emperor

  545. said to them,

  546. I am a good,

  547. honest,

  548. righteous,

  549. and just emperor.

  550. Shame

  551. and dishonor

  552. has been brought

  553. upon me

  554. and my kingdom

  555. by your actions.

  556. You must all

  557. be justly punished

  558. for your crimes.

  559. At this,

  560. the prince

  561. stepped forward

  562. and said,

  563. Father,

  564. I am willing

  565. to take

  566. the punishment

  567. for these people.

  568. The emperor

  569. asked,

  570. Who will hold

  571. the prince

  572. while he is punished?

  573. Well,

  574. with great excitement,

  575. all the leaders

  576. of the trash pile

  577. rushed forward

  578. and grabbed

  579. the prince.

  580. They stripped him

  581. of his royal coat

  582. and forced him

  583. to his knees.

  584. The emperor

  585. took out

  586. a powerful whip

  587. and began

  588. to whip

  589. the prince.

  590. And each strike

  591. sounded like thunder.

  592. Every time

  593. he would whip

  594. the prince,

  595. the emperor

  596. would call out

  597. one of the names

  598. of the people

  599. on the trash pile

  600. and say,

  601. Your crimes

  602. have been paid for.

  603. This went on

  604. for the longest time.

  605. David Bout,

  606. Your crimes

  607. have been paid for.

  608. Titus Mahaffey,

  609. Your crimes

  610. have been paid for.

  611. Mark Rugsager,

  612. Your crimes

  613. have been paid for.

  614. Blake Murphy,

  615. Your crimes

  616. have been paid for.

  617. Huang Dandan,

  618. Your crimes

  619. have been paid for.

  620. Lan Yi,

  621. Your crimes

  622. have been paid for.

  623. Liu Chunya,

  624. Your crimes

  625. have been paid for.

  626. Name after name,

  627. lash after lash,

  628. the blood

  629. of the prince

  630. filled the street.

  631. No one really knew

  632. how long it lasted.

  633. All they remembered

  634. was the moment

  635. they heard their name.

  636. the moment

  637. they heard

  638. their name

  639. and that their crimes

  640. have been paid for.

  641. At that moment,

  642. their hard hearts

  643. melted within them.

  644. When the emperor

  645. was finished

  646. and the prince

  647. was dead,

  648. the emperor

  649. cried out,

  650. All of you

  651. that have had

  652. your crimes paid for,

  653. I forgive you

  654. and you may return

  655. to the kingdom

  656. and live as my children

  657. once again.

  658. Well, large people,

  659. large groups of people

  660. immediately ran

  661. from the trash pile

  662. into the kingdom

  663. and their lives

  664. were completely changed.

  665. They became new people

  666. and the new people's hearts

  667. were so overflowing

  668. with the love

  669. they'd received

  670. from the emperor

  671. that they began

  672. to love those around them

  673. even more

  674. than they loved themselves.

  675. They even found themselves

  676. loving the people

  677. that were still

  678. on the trash pile.

  679. And so they would go out

  680. and take care of them

  681. and tell them

  682. about all of the love

  683. they'd received

  684. from the emperor

  685. and invite them

  686. to come back

  687. and be one of the emperor's

  688. children too.

  689. As the trash people

  690. saw the way

  691. the new people

  692. loved each other

  693. and loved them,

  694. more and more of them

  695. wanted to become

  696. children of the emperor.

  697. After several days,

  698. the emperor showed

  699. he was even more glorious

  700. and powerful

  701. than the people realized.

  702. The emperor

  703. gave the prince

  704. life again.

  705. All of the people

  706. that had returned

  707. to the kingdom

  708. celebrated

  709. the prince's return,

  710. his resurrection.

  711. And their hearts

  712. were filled

  713. with even more love

  714. because of what

  715. the prince had done

  716. for them.

  717. The prince continued

  718. to lead the people

  719. to go out

  720. to the trash pile

  721. and to share

  722. the good news

  723. with all who would listen.

  724. and the story

  725. continues even today.

  726. You see,

  727. the best news

  728. about the world's

  729. greatest love story

  730. is that it's continuing.

  731. It's a continuing story.

  732. And everyone

  733. has a chapter

  734. in this story.

  735. Everyone in this room,

  736. everyone in the world,

  737. everyone that's ever lived

  738. has a chapter

  739. in the world's

  740. greatest love story.

  741. Each of us

  742. is responsible

  743. for our own chapter.

  744. The question is,

  745. will you choose

  746. a life

  747. of self-centered love?

  748. Will you choose

  749. to keep living

  750. on the trash pile,

  751. letting your life

  752. be filled

  753. with selfish love

  754. where every relationship,

  755. every decision,

  756. every action

  757. is focused

  758. on your own

  759. comfort and pleasure?

  760. always looking

  761. for something

  762. to satisfy you

  763. in your job

  764. or your relationships,

  765. your family,

  766. but never finding it.

  767. Forever living

  768. with that feeling

  769. that there's something

  770. more that you are missing.

  771. Or will you accept

  772. a life

  773. of God-centered love?

  774. Will you accept

  775. a life

  776. of God-centered love?

  777. Are you willing

  778. to hear

  779. the truth

  780. about God?

  781. Realize

  782. the truth

  783. of how

  784. you have been

  785. living a self-centered

  786. life that dishonors

  787. and shames God

  788. and accept

  789. the love

  790. that Jesus

  791. has shown

  792. to you

  793. in paying

  794. for your sin?

  795. Will you turn

  796. away

  797. from self-centered

  798. living on the trash

  799. pile outside

  800. of God's kingdom?

  801. Are you willing

  802. to let

  803. God-centered love

  804. rule your life

  805. and make you

  806. a new person?

  807. If you're willing,

  808. if you're willing

  809. to accept

  810. God's love,

  811. there are such

  812. beautiful results.

  813. The results

  814. of accepting

  815. God's love

  816. are this.

  817. One,

  818. we have an intimate

  819. relationship

  820. with God

  821. as our Father.

  822. Look at

  823. 1 John 4

    1 John 4:12

  824. verse 12.

  825. It says,

  826. No one has ever

  827. seen God,

  828. but if we love

  829. one another,

  830. God abides

  831. in us.

  832. God abides

  833. in us.

  834. God lives

  835. in us.

  836. God becomes

  837. an intimate

  838. part of our lives.

  839. He is our Father.

  840. We are His children.

  841. So if you accept

  842. God's love,

  843. you'll have

  844. an intimate

  845. relationship

  846. with Him.

  847. But the second

  848. result is

  849. we will truly

  850. love one another.

  851. When we accept

  852. God-centered love,

  853. our hearts

  854. are changed

  855. so that we can

  856. love each other

  857. as we should.

  858. No longer

  859. being selfish

  860. in our thoughts.

  861. What do I get?

  862. How does it make

  863. me feel?

  864. Why is this

  865. good for me?

  866. But our hearts

  867. are changed

  868. so that we can

  869. love others

  870. and we can

  871. think most

  872. about them.

  873. What's best

  874. for them?

  875. How can I

  876. serve them?

  877. How can I

  878. help them?

  879. The third

  880. benefit

  881. is if we

  882. accept God's

  883. love,

  884. the world

  885. will see God

  886. through our

  887. true love

  888. for one another.

  889. The world

  890. will see God

  891. through our

  892. true love

  893. for one another.

  894. Again,

  895. in verse 12,

  896. it talks about

  897. how no one

  898. has seen God,

  899. but if we

  900. love one another,

  901. God abides

  902. in us

  903. and his love

  904. is perfected

  905. in us.

  906. It's made

  907. perfect,

  908. it's made

  909. complete,

  910. and the world

  911. will see it.

  912. In John

    John 13:34

  913. chapter 13,

  914. verses 34

  915. and 35,

  916. Jesus tells

  917. us that

  918. by this

  919. all people

  920. will know

  921. you're my

  922. disciples

  923. if you have

  924. love for

  925. one another.

  926. So we have

  927. a responsibility.

  928. We decide

  929. how do we

  930. want the

  931. chapter of

  932. our lives

  933. in this

  934. great love

  935. story to

  936. look.

  937. How is it

  938. you will

  939. let your

  940. story end?

  941. Will it be

  942. a story

  943. of self-centered

  944. love or

  945. God-centered

  946. love?

  947. Today,

  948. I encourage

  949. you to

  950. choose wisely.

  951. Let's pray.

  952. Amen.
