  1. In the spirit of soccer camp, I thought I'd use an illustration that was used on Tuesday related

  2. ! to our passage for the day. We find ourselves in Daniel chapter 2. I would encourage you even now to open up to Daniel chapter 2.

Daniel 2 chapter mention Daniel 2 chapter mention

  3. It's on page 737. And if Daniel's dream is illustrated by this box, the contents of the dream are also kind of representative of what we find in our story today.

  4. But I need two volunteers. Two volunteers. All right, two right in the back, right behind Mr. Hill. Okay, come on up.

  5. Yeah, you too. Come on up. Come on up. Great.

  6. Okay, so this is Nebuchadnezzar's dream. Come on up here with me. All right, good. All of you are also volunteers.

  7. You are the wise men, okay? The wise men who Nebuchadnezzar has called into his palace.

  8. He's asking for an interpretation to his dream. And so those of you who are wise, and I know this is a room full of very wise people,

  9. what is in the box? That's what I'm going to ask you in just a moment, okay?

  10. What is in the box? All right?

  11. But then, why don't you come over here for just a second, okay?

  12. All right. Why don't you take a look and see what is in the box? Don't say. Don't say what's in the box yet, okay?

  13. And then, for you, I'm going to tell you what's in the box.

  14. All right. Okay, good. So, all of my wise sages here, the wise men that I've called, what?

  15. What is in the box?

  16. What's that?

  17. Rubber duck. Good, good thought. No, no.

  18. Somebody in the first service said donuts, and they had dreamed about donuts last night.

  19. I think that's probably a good dream, too, but not what's in the box, okay?

  20. Of these two, who do you suppose is going to be able to tell me what is in here?

  21. The person who looked inside the box, what did you see in the box?

  22. A picture of a statue with a head of gold, a chest and arms of silver, a metal part of bronze, and the legs and feet were made of metal and clay.

  23. You are amazing. Good job.

  24. Very descriptive of what she saw in the box was a bag, but of course, that is incomplete.

  25. It's just part of the picture, but I told you what was in the bag.

  26. What is in the bag?

  27. A Bible is in the bag.

  28. The Word of God had come to Nebuchadnezzar, and God's Word is on display through this dream,

  29. but especially through Daniel, who reveals that Word to Nebuchadnezzar.

  30. Thank you for your help. Good job. You can be seated.

  31. Thank you.

  32. This morning, we're learning about the distinctiveness of God,

  33. and maybe it would have been better to title this not just God is distinct or God is set apart,

  34. but that God is a God who reveals His message, His Word to His people.

  35. We have a God who sets Himself apart as one who desires for His creation to know His revealed Word.

  36. And so here are these captives, eight or 900 miles away from home,

  37. and they're in a different place, and this pagan king who doesn't even acknowledge God,

  38. who thinks that His gods have conquered the God of Israel,

  39. and yet God Himself, the God of heaven, revealing His Word to Nebuchadnezzar.

  40. And this morning, we're going to see what that Word is,

  41. and then next week, we're going to come to understand what that Word means,

  42. as Daniel will interpret that.

  43. But especially, I want us, as we're looking at this passage today,

  44. to recognize the amazing privilege of the revealed Word of God,

  45. that God has instrumentally revealed Himself to His creation.

  46. Not just so they know who He is, but so they can respond to what they know and come to worship.

  47. That ultimately is what God is after.

  48. God is after worship.

  49. The Father seeks such to worship Him.

  50. That's what Jesus told the woman at the well.

  51. That's what God's objective is in giving His Word,

  52. to welcome us into worship, into love of Him.

  53. Of course, we see the revealed messages of God,

  54. even as we look at creation.

  55. We call that general revelation.

  56. That God has revealed Himself in what we see,

  57. in what we observe, in what we experience.

  58. Even just on Friday, John mentioned the thunderstorm.

  59. And as the thunder was thundering,

  60. I was inside the house and just thought to myself,

  61. I just love thunderstorms.

  62. There's something about the thunder and the lightning

  63. that reminds me of the power of God.

  64. And of course, I'm sure if I were to ask you,

  65. what really stands out to you about God's creation,

  66. you would talk about the special things like the stars or the trees,

  67. or some of you who have ever lived near the ocean.

  68. You enjoy the mountains and just the benefits of what God has given to us

  69. through general revelation of calling attention to Himself.

  70. We see so much about God in creation.

  71. Matter of fact, Romans chapter 1 talks about the fact that all of the divine attributes

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  72. are clearly seen in what we observe in creation.

  73. His majesty, His wisdom, His power,

  74. even His eternality,

  75. that He is a God who is so infinite,

  76. so magnificent,

  77. so magnificent,

  78. so large.

  79. It's beyond our comprehension

  80. in His ability to show compassion

  81. in the order of things that He has made

  82. and how He takes care of His creation.

  83. It demonstrates a God who is overall.

  84. But we know that general revelation by itself is insufficient.

  85. While it is clear,

  86. and those who see God in creation

  87. know there is an all-powerful, almighty deity,

  88. but they don't know who that deity is

  89. or how to respond to that deity.

  90. So God has also given to us special revelation.

  91. His revealed Word, His prophets,

  92. His Word, the Word of God itself,

  93. and then coming to us through His own Son, Jesus,

  94. who was the Word of God made flesh.

  95. In this way, God is distinct.

  96. God is set apart.

  97. God is separate.

  98. Entirely different from all other things in creation,

  99. all other powers,

  100. all other authorities,

  101. all other beings.

  102. God is distinct in that He demonstrates

  103. His interest in revealing Himself to His creation.

  104. We'll observe this quality of God

  105. in our passage today,

  106. especially from Daniel 2, verse 11.

    Daniel 2:11

  107. Look there just for a moment.

  108. This is where I'm drawing out our point

  109. that God is distinct,

  110. and we're going to apply this to the passage at large.

  111. It says this.

  112. These are the wise men who are responding to the king.

  113. It said,

  114. This thing that the king asked is difficult,

  115. and no one can show it to the king

  116. except the gods,

  117. whose dwelling is not with flesh.

  118. And now drop down to verse 19.

  119. Then this mystery was revealed to Daniel.

  120. In a vision of the night,

  121. then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.

  122. Daniel's God as separate,

  123. as distinct,

  124. as set apart from all other gods,

  125. all other powers,

  126. all other authorities,

  127. because God reveals His Word to His people.

  128. He does that to draw us in

  129. to worship of Himself,

  130. and that's what God is beginning to work

  131. in Nebuchadnezzar's heart.

  132. So, beginning in verse 1,

  133. we're going to see that God is set apart

  134. in giving revelation.

  135. God is set apart in giving revelation.

  136. This is part of the nature of who God is

  137. in revealing Himself to His creation.

  138. He sets Himself apart this way.

  139. Notice in verse 1.

  140. In the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar,

  141. Nebuchadnezzar had a dream.

  142. His spirit was troubled,

  143. and his sleep left him.

  144. God is speaking to Nebuchadnezzar in a dream.

  145. We're going to just talk about this for a little bit.

  146. But before we get there,

  147. notice the response of Nebuchadnezzar.

  148. He's troubled.

  149. His sleep leaves him.

  150. God speaks to Nebuchadnezzar

  151. in a way that is recognizable.

  152. He gets his attention.

  153. He is seeking to draw the attention to Nebuchadnezzar

  154. that this revelation

  155. is not coming from within Nebuchadnezzar.

  156. It's coming from without.

  157. And so, Nebuchadnezzar takes it seriously.

  158. He recognizes this is coming

  159. from outside of himself.

  160. This opening phrase,

  161. in the second year of the reign of Nebuchadnezzar,

  162. it's my conviction

  163. that this is actually

  164. a part of the flow of this narrative.

  165. And it would find itself within Daniel chapter 1.

    Daniel 1 chapter mention

  166. So this three-year training process

  167. that is taking place there in Babylon

  168. where Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego,

  169. and Daniel are all part of this training process.

  170. And so, chapter 1 kind of deals

  171. with the start and completion of that process.

  172. But inserted in that, I believe,

  173. is this story of Daniel chapter 2

    Daniel 2 chapter mention

  174. where Daniel is able to interpret

  175. the dream of the king.

  176. Which helps us understand

  177. in Daniel chapter 1 verse 17

    Daniel 1:17

  178. how Daniel knew that he had this ability.

  179. As for these youths,

  180. God gave them learning and skill

  181. and all literature and wisdom.

  182. And Daniel had understanding

  183. and all visions and dreams.

  184. How did he know that?

  185. Well, he knew that because of Daniel chapter 2.

    Daniel 2 chapter mention

  186. And I think it also helps to explain

  187. why Daniel wasn't a part

  188. of this assembly of counselors

  189. that come before the king

  190. here in our narrative this morning.

  191. God had given Nebuchadnezzar a dream.

  192. He had revealed a message to him.

  193. And as a result,

  194. Nebuchadnezzar is troubled.

  195. His mind is,

  196. his spirit is struck.

  197. The root word that is here

  198. means to strike as with a hammer

  199. on an anvil.

  200. Or to strike a bell.

  201. There was this pounding

  202. that was taking place.

  203. It was recognizable.

  204. It got his attention.

  205. It created alarm in his heart.

  206. He knew something significant

  207. was taking place.

  208. Perhaps even refers to the rapid heartbeat

  209. that was taking place

  210. while he was dreaming.

  211. Have you ever woken up

  212. in the middle of the night

  213. after a very hard dream?

  214. This cold sweat that you have

  215. and their heart is racing?

  216. That's the kind of response

  217. that Nebuchadnezzar is having

  218. to this dream.

  219. We also find that his sleep left him.

  220. His sleep was done.

  221. We would call this a nightmare.

  222. His heart is racing.

  223. He's scared.

  224. Any of you kids

  225. who've ever had a bad dream,

  226. maybe what you would tend to do,

  227. what I did when I was a kid,

  228. I would get up

  229. and I would run to mom and dad's room

  230. and ask to lay in the bed with them.

  231. Ever?

  232. I won't ask you to raise your hands.

  233. You know what I'm talking about.

  234. This is what's going on

  235. for Nebuchadnezzar.

  236. And what's interesting

  237. is it says not only

  238. did he have a dream,

  239. but he had dreams,

  240. which means it was likely

  241. this recurring event

  242. that would happen

  243. night after night after night

  244. and it continued to torment him.

  245. He recognized that God was at work.

  246. Of course, dreams in the ancient world

  247. were considered significant.

  248. They were considered indicators

  249. of what was yet to happen.

  250. And Nebuchadnezzar knew

  251. that this was no ordinary dream.

  252. It arrested his attention.

  253. And in fact,

  254. God was speaking to Nebuchadnezzar.

  255. God was doing here

  256. what he did repeatedly

  257. throughout the Old and New Testament

  258. when prophets were not present.

  259. We find 21 times

  260. throughout the Old Testament

  261. that God speaks to

  262. various individuals

  263. through dreams.

  264. So that in Genesis chapter 20

    Genesis 20 chapter mention

  265. to King Abimelech.

  266. Abimelech, if you remember,

  267. took Abraham's wife Sarah

  268. to be his wife,

  269. to be a concubine.

  270. And God shows up

  271. to King Abimelech

  272. in the night

  273. and says,

  274. you are a dead man

  275. because the woman

  276. whom you have taken,

  277. for she is a man's wife.

  278. And Abimelech's like,

  279. what?

  280. God speaks to Abimelech

  281. in a dream.

  282. Of course,

  283. God speaks to Jacob

  284. who is running

  285. to Laban's house.

  286. And God reveals

  287. to Jacob

  288. through angels

  289. ascending and descending

  290. on this ladder,

  291. this confirmation

  292. of the covenant promises

  293. that he had made

  294. to Abraham

  295. and also to Jacob's father Isaac

  296. and now were extended

  297. to him

  298. and to his children.

  299. God, of course,

  300. would give dreams

  301. to Joseph.

  302. Joseph,

  303. who would have a dream

  304. of the sheaves

  305. that were bowing down to him

  306. and also a dream

  307. of the sun

  308. and the moon

  309. and 11 stars

  310. that were all bowing down

  311. to Joseph.

  312. God would speak

  313. to his people

  314. through dreams.

  315. It was meant

  316. to get their attention.

  317. It was meant

  318. to be this vivid picture,

  319. this message,

  320. this revelation

  321. of God

  322. to his people

  323. to give them

  324. this repeated understanding,

  325. this stressing

  326. the significance

  327. of what was about

  328. to happen.

  329. God is speaking

  330. to Nebuchadnezzar

  331. as well,

  332. revealing the future

  333. to Nebuchadnezzar,

  334. warning him,

  335. helping him

  336. to take notice.

  337. Not only does he have

  338. this dream,

  339. but this dream

  340. is not enough.

  341. While it is revelation,

  342. Nebuchadnezzar understands

  343. that it's significant,

  344. it's come from God

  345. and he doesn't leave it there.

  346. He wants to know

  347. the interpretation

  348. and that's where

  349. we turn next.

  350. Nebuchadnezzar,

  351. he seeks an interpretation.

  352. He's kind of moving

  353. our way through

  354. this narrative,

  355. helping to draw attention

  356. to the transitions

  357. that are taking place.

  358. Nebuchadnezzar recognizes

  359. that this dream

  360. is important.

  361. He wants to know

  362. what it means,

  363. so he sends

  364. for an interpretation.

  365. It says in verse 2,

  366. then the king commanded

  367. the magicians,

  368. the enchanters,

  369. the sorcerers,

  370. and the Chaldeans

  371. to be summoned

  372. to tell the king

  373. his dreams.

  374. So they came in

  375. and stood before the king

  376. and the king said to them,

  377. I had a dream

  378. and my spirit is troubled

  379. to know the dream.

  380. Then the Chaldeans

  381. said to the king

  382. in Aramaic,

  383. O king,

  384. live forever.

  385. Tell your servant

  386. the dream

  387. and we will show

  388. the interpretation.

  389. Of course,

  390. Nebuchadnezzar

  391. wants to know

  392. what this dream means.

  393. So he sends

  394. for the experts

  395. in the kingdom

  396. so that he might know

  397. what this dream means.

  398. There are four distinct groups

  399. that are present.

  400. Magicians,

  401. enchanters,

  402. sorcerers,

  403. and Chaldeans.

  404. Magicians would be those

  405. who meticulously

  406. chronicled

  407. the configuration

  408. or the constellation

  409. of the stars,

  410. the movement

  411. of the heavens

  412. as it were.

  413. And as significant events

  414. would take place,

  415. they would capture

  416. those and chronicle

  417. those events

  418. so that any time

  419. that event would reoccur,

  420. they could have a way

  421. to interpret

  422. the current events

  423. that were taking place

  424. before them.

  425. Enchanters were also

  426. astrologers

  427. or conjurers.

  428. These were those

  429. who used magic spells

  430. and incantations

  431. were believed

  432. to be able to communicate

  433. with the other world,

  434. the spirit world.

  435. sorcerers

  436. were those

  437. who were thought

  438. to speak to the gods.

  439. They used omens

  440. and studied them

  441. to understand the future.

  442. They used astrology

  443. and even used techniques

  444. like using a sheep's liver

  445. to decide

  446. what was going to happen

  447. in the current situation.

  448. These Chaldeans

  449. are also astrologers.

  450. These are the ones

  451. who were priests

  452. or astrologers

  453. or magicians

  454. or soothsayers.

  455. These are the ones

  456. who were called in

  457. who were expected

  458. to be able

  459. to communicate

  460. with the spirit world

  461. and bring an answer.

  462. There's one thing

  463. that's common

  464. to all these groups.

  465. Their

  466. association

  467. with the spirit world,

  468. with the supernatural.

  469. We tend to dismiss

  470. the supernatural

  471. as being either irrelevant

  472. or bogus

  473. or unimportant.

  474. But the scripture

  475. would teach otherwise.

  476. Ephesians chapter 6

    Ephesians 6:12

  477. verse 12

  478. says this,

  479. We do not wrestle

  480. against flesh and blood

  481. but against rulers,

  482. against authorities,

  483. against the cosmic powers

  484. over this present darkness,

  485. against the spiritual forces

  486. of evil

  487. in the heavenly places.

  488. There is a battle,

  489. a struggle

  490. that is taking place

  491. and it is not

  492. a physical one.

  493. It is a spiritual one.

  494. It is not a one

  495. that you can see.

  496. It's a one

  497. that's invisible to you.

  498. The real struggle,

  499. the real conflict,

  500. the real battle

  501. that is happening

  502. in this world

  503. is a battle

  504. that's taking place

  505. in the invisible realm.

  506. And God

  507. has entrusted

  508. spiritual forces

  509. with real

  510. spiritual power.

  511. Make no mistake.

  512. So then in Ephesians

    Ephesians 2:1

  513. chapter 2

  514. verses 1 and 2

  515. we find

  516. you were dead

  517. in your trespasses

  518. and sins

  519. in which you walked,

  520. once walked,

  521. following the course

  522. of this world,

  523. following the prince

  524. of the power

  525. of the air,

  526. the spirit

  527. that is now at work

  528. in the sons

  529. of disobedience.

  530. There is delegated

  531. power

  532. that God

  533. has given

  534. to Satan

  535. and also

  536. to his demonic

  537. forces.

  538. That power

  539. is real power.

  540. power.

  541. So that

  542. even Moses,

  543. you remember the story,

  544. you've watched the movie,

  545. the power

  546. that Moses

  547. wields in Egypt

  548. is a mimicked

  549. power

  550. that is also

  551. reflected

  552. in the wise men

  553. of Pharaoh's court.

  554. So that in Exodus

    Exodus 6:10

  555. chapter 6

  556. verses 10 and 11,

  557. excuse me,

  558. 7,

  559. 10 and 11,

  560. it says this,

  561. So Moses and Aaron

  562. went to Pharaoh

  563. and did just

  564. what the Lord

  565. commanded

  566. and Aaron

  567. cast down

  568. his staff

  569. before Pharaoh

  570. and his servants

  571. and it became

  572. a serpent.

  573. Then Pharaoh

  574. summoned the wise men

  575. and the sorcerers

  576. and they,

  577. the magicians

  578. of Egypt,

  579. also did the same

  580. by their

  581. secret arts.

  582. It's real

  583. power.

  584. It's delegated

  585. power.

  586. Power that God

  587. has delegated

  588. to

  589. spiritual

  590. forces

  591. to carry out

  592. the plans

  593. that they have

  594. in this world.

  595. Then Moses

  596. turns the water

  597. of the Nile

  598. into blood

  599. and we find that

  600. in Exodus

    Exodus 7:20

  601. chapter 7

  602. verse 20.

  603. Moses and Aaron

  604. did what the Lord

  605. commanded

  606. in the sight

  607. of Pharaoh

  608. and in the sight

  609. of his servants.

  610. He lifted up

  611. his staff

  612. and struck

  613. the water

  614. in the Nile

  615. and all the water

  616. in the Nile

  617. turned to blood.

  618. Then in verse 22,

  619. but the magicians

  620. of Egypt

  621. did the same

  622. by their

  623. secret arts.

  624. This is sobering.

  625. Miracle

  626. after miracle

  627. that

  628. Moses

  629. performs,

  630. it is

  631. emulated

  632. and mimicked

  633. by

  634. these wise men.

  635. So that

  636. even bringing

  637. the plague of frogs

  638. that we find

  639. in Exodus

    Exodus 8 chapter mention

  640. chapter 8.

  641. So Aaron

  642. stretched out

  643. his hand

  644. over the waters

  645. of Egypt

  646. and the frogs

  647. came up

  648. and covered

  649. the land of Egypt,

  650. but the magicians

  651. did the same

  652. by their secret arts

  653. and made frogs

  654. come up

  655. on the land

  656. of Egypt.

  657. Miracle

  658. after miracle,

  659. power

  660. after power

  661. was reflected

  662. in these wise men

  663. until the third

  664. plague of gnats

  665. in Exodus

    Exodus 8:17–19

  666. chapter 8

  667. verses 17

  668. to 19.

  669. Aaron stretched

  670. out his hand

  671. with his staff

  672. and struck

  673. the dust

  674. of the earth

  675. and there

  676. were gnats

  677. on man and beast.

  678. All the dust

  679. of the earth

  680. became gnats

  681. in all the land

  682. of Egypt.

  683. The magicians

  684. tried by their

  685. secret arts

  686. to produce gnats

  687. but they could not

  688. so there were gnats

  689. on man and beast

  690. and the magicians

  691. said to Pharaoh,

  692. this is the finger

  693. of God.

  694. But Pharaoh's heart

  695. was hardened

  696. and he would not

  697. listen as the Lord

  698. had said.

  699. While they do

  700. have power,

  701. there are limits,

  702. there are boundaries,

  703. there are constraints

  704. to the power

  705. that they have

  706. but they do

  707. have power,

  708. make no mistake,

  709. so that by the time

  710. we get to the end times

  711. in Revelation chapter 13

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  712. we also find

  713. this power

  714. of the false prophet

  715. who is working

  716. in concert

  717. with the Antichrist.

  718. We find this,

  719. then I saw another beast,

  720. that's the false prophet

  721. rising out of the earth.

  722. It had two horns

  723. like a lamb

  724. and it spoke

  725. like a dragon.

  726. It exerts all the authority

  727. of the first beast

  728. in its presence

  729. and makes the earth

  730. and its inhabitants

  731. worship the first beast

  732. whose mortal wound

  733. was healed.

  734. It performs great signs

  735. even making fire

  736. come down from heaven

  737. to earth

  738. in front of the people

  739. and by the sign

  740. that it allowed

  741. to work

  742. in the presence

  743. of the beast,

  744. it deceives those

  745. who dwell on earth

  746. telling them

  747. to make an image

  748. for the beast

  749. that was wounded

  750. by the sword

  751. and yet lived.

  752. Make no mistake,

  753. the spiritual forces

  754. of darkness

  755. have power.

  756. They're not to be trifled with.

  757. And here,

  758. Nebuchadnezzar calls in

  759. this spiritual group

  760. of individuals

  761. to work that power

  762. that he has seen

  763. no doubt in the past,

  764. he has recognized,

  765. he knows

  766. that this is not pretend.

  767. Nebuchadnezzar

  768. is not interested

  769. in parlor tricks,

  770. he's not gullible,

  771. these guys

  772. are the real deal

  773. and they're not

  774. to be messed with.

  775. So Nebuchadnezzar

  776. calls them in

  777. to interpret the dream,

  778. he knows

  779. that they have

  780. some connection

  781. with the spirit world

  782. and he knows

  783. that his dream

  784. has come

  785. from the other side.

  786. But we find

  787. in verses 4 to 11

  788. that his counselors

  789. admit their limitation.

  790. In this case,

  791. God is preserving

  792. his word,

  793. he is preserving

  794. the integrity

  795. of the message

  796. that he has given

  797. to Nebuchadnezzar

  798. and he binds

  799. or restricts

  800. these counselors

  801. from being able

  802. to know the message

  803. that God has given

  804. to Nebuchadnezzar.

  805. Notice verse 4.

  806. Then the Chaldeans

  807. said to the king

  808. in Aramaic,

  809. O king,

  810. live forever.

  811. Tell your servants

  812. the dream

  813. and we will show

  814. the interpretation.

  815. The king answered

  816. and said to the Chaldeans,

  817. the word for me

  818. is firm.

  819. If you do not

  820. make known to me

  821. the dream

  822. and its interpretation,

  823. you shall be torn

  824. limb from limb

  825. and your houses

  826. shall be laid

  827. in ruins.

  828. But if you show

  829. the dream

  830. and its interpretation,

  831. you shall receive

  832. from me gifts

  833. and rewards

  834. and great honor.

  835. Therefore,

  836. show me the dream

  837. and its interpretation.

  838. They answered

  839. a second time

  840. and said,

  841. let the king

  842. tell his servants

  843. the dream

  844. and we will show

  845. the interpretation.

  846. The king answered

  847. and said,

  848. I know with certainty

  849. that you are trying

  850. to gain time.

  851. If you do not

  852. make the dream

  853. known to me,

  854. there is but one

  855. sentence for you.

  856. You have agreed

  857. to speak lying

  858. and corrupt words

  859. before me

  860. till the times

  861. change.

  862. Therefore,

  863. tell me the dream

  864. and I shall know

  865. that you can show me

  866. its interpretation.

  867. The Chaldeans

  868. answered the king

  869. and said,

  870. there is not a man

  871. on earth

  872. who can meet

  873. the king's demand

  874. for no great

  875. and powerful king

  876. has asked

  877. such a thing

  878. of any magician

  879. or enchanter

  880. or Chaldean.

  881. The thing

  882. that the king

  883. asks is difficult

  884. and no one

  885. can show it

  886. to the king

  887. except the gods

  888. whose dwelling

  889. is not

  890. with the flesh.

  891. Right at the outset

  892. we see in verse 4

  893. this progression

  894. of interaction

  895. that's taking place

  896. between the king

  897. and these counselors.

  898. First,

  899. it begins in verse 4

  900. with great respect.

  901. Notice,

  902. O king,

  903. live forever.

  904. Recognizing his position,

  905. seeking prosperity

  906. and the continuance

  907. of his reign

  908. but then it all

  909. ends in complete

  910. defiance.

  911. Verse 10,

  912. there is not a man

  913. on earth

  914. who can meet

  915. the king's demand

  916. for no great

  917. and powerful king

  918. has asked such a thing

  919. of any magician

  920. or enchanter

  921. or Chaldean.

  922. You're insane.

  923. This is ridiculous.

  924. Your request

  925. is impossible.

  926. You are out

  927. of your mind.

  928. What in the world

  929. are you thinking,

  930. king?

  931. What a turn.

  932. What a change

  933. has happened.

  934. So why is the king

  935. so resolute?

  936. Well,

  937. the king is resolute

  938. because the king

  939. understands

  940. that in that era

  941. these wise men

  942. and astrologers

  943. did have some skill

  944. in interpreting dreams.

  945. There were manuals

  946. that had explained

  947. the various dream symbols.

  948. Samples of those

  949. in Akkadian dream manuals

  950. have been discovered.

  951. So all the wise men

  952. needed were to know

  953. what the symbols were,

  954. how those symbols

  955. interacted with one another.

  956. They could look up

  957. in their index,

  958. in their manual,

  959. and they could provide

  960. some approximation

  961. of the dream

  962. and its interpretation.

  963. But Nebuchadnezzar

  964. was not interested

  965. in an approximation.

  966. Nebuchadnezzar understood

  967. this message

  968. was from God

  969. and he wanted

  970. the real interpretation.

  971. And if they couldn't do it,

  972. the consequences

  973. were severe.

  974. I'm going to tear you

  975. limb from limb.

  976. I'm going to burn

  977. down your houses

  978. and turn it into ruins.

  979. Why would Nebuchadnezzar

  980. be so willing

  981. to dispose

  982. of all of his wise men?

  983. Well, I believe

  984. it's because Nebuchadnezzar

  985. understood the seriousness

  986. of the dream that he had.

  987. He recognized

  988. that in some way

  989. his kingdom

  990. or he

  991. was represented

  992. in this image

  993. and when this rock

  994. is cut out of the mountain

  995. and thrown at the statue,

  996. it blows into bits.

  997. Nebuchadnezzar

  998. has some indication

  999. that something significant

  1000. is about to happen

1001. and it's not going to be good.

  1002. He wants to know

  1003. the specifics.

  1004. He wants the interpretation

  1005. to be clear.

  1006. He's not messing around.

  1007. He does not want

  1008. an approximate answer.

1009. He wants the real answer.

  1010. And he's convinced

  1011. of the integrity

  1012. of this message.

  1013. And in this way,

  1014. Nebuchadnezzar

  1015. perhaps

  1016. even here

  1017. is preserving

  1018. the message

  1019. of the word

  1020. even more

1021. than most of the captives

1022. that came out of Judah.

  1023. Those captives

  1024. who had had

  1025. the word of God

  1026. but did not

  1027. align their hearts

  1028. to respond

  1029. to that word

  1030. and that's why

  1031. they were in captivity

  1032. in the first place

  1033. because of their idolatry,

  1034. because of the rebellion

  1035. against God,

  1036. their unwillingness

  1037. to hear

  1038. and obey

  1039. the message

  1040. that God had sent

  1041. to the prophets.

  1042. They treated

  1043. the word of God

  1044. as common.

  1045. But Nebuchadnezzar

  1046. recognizes

  1047. the significance

  1048. of the word

  1049. and wants to preserve

  1050. the integrity

  1051. of that word

  1052. and demands

  1053. this impossible request

1054. so that he can know

  1055. for sure

  1056. what God says.

  1057. Although

  1058. we'll see

  1059. that Daniel

  1060. is not a part

  1061. of this group

  1062. and it puts him

  1063. at risk,

  1064. this is another way

  1065. that God

  1066. is preserving

  1067. the integrity

  1068. of his messenger.

  1069. Because if Daniel

  1070. had been a part

  1071. of this group

  1072. and we know

  1073. that he had risen

  1074. through the ranks,

  1075. he had established

  1076. himself

  1077. as being

  1078. ten times wiser

  1079. than all

  1080. of the wise men

  1081. of Egypt,

  1082. or excuse me,

  1083. of Babylon.

1084. If he had been here

  1085. and been part

  1086. of this group

  1087. and been part

  1088. of the solution

  1089. of interpretation,

  1090. God's word

  1091. would have been

  1092. corrupted

  1093. in that

  1094. it would have come

  1095. from the collective

  1096. and not come

  1097. from God.

  1098. God himself

  1099. is preserving

  1100. his word as well.

  1101. Notice as we turn

  1102. to verse 12

  1103. and 13,

  1104. the king's attempts

  1105. to get an answer

  1106. are frustrated.

  1107. His desire

  1108. to understand

  1109. the dream

  1110. and its interpretation

  1111. is frustrated.

  1112. Notice,

  1113. because of this,

  1114. the king was angry

  1115. and furious

  1116. and commanded

1117. that all the wise men

  1118. of Babylon

  1119. be destroyed.

  1120. So the decree

  1121. went out

  1122. and the wise men

1123. were about to be killed

  1124. and they sought Daniel

  1125. and his companions

  1126. to kill them.

  1127. Nebuchadnezzar

  1128. is hot.

  1129. We're going to see

  1130. this rage

1131. that's going to come out,

  1132. this violent rage

  1133. of Nebuchadnezzar

1134. is going to come out

  1135. time and time again

  1136. throughout this narrative.

  1137. Probably

  1138. not just because

  1139. of the fact

  1140. that his wise men

  1141. let him down

  1142. but also because

  1143. of the insults

  1144. he received.

  1145. He feels

  1146. a little duped.

  1147. He feels

  1148. as though

  1149. his power

  1150. is limited.

  1151. He is frustrated

  1152. about the fact

  1153. that a message

  1154. has been given

  1155. and he can't

  1156. discern

  1157. its interpretation.

  1158. Perhaps he also

  1159. feels weak

  1160. invulnerable

  1161. a bit embarrassed

  1162. a bit challenged

  1163. a little foolish.

  1164. He wants to remove

  1165. this threat

  1166. against him

  1167. he doesn't know

  1168. where that threat

  1169. lies.

  1170. So he sends

  1171. out this urgent

  1172. command to destroy

  1173. all the wise men

  1174. of Babylon.

  1175. Babylon.

  1176. And it was

  1177. carried out

  1178. immediately

  1179. and thoroughly.

  1180. And then a man

  1181. named Ariok

  1182. comes

  1183. and begins

  1184. and knocks

  1185. on Daniel's door.

  1186. Ariok

  1187. his name means

  1188. lion-like

  1189. and I can imagine

  1190. that he got

  1191. that name

  1192. for obvious

  1193. reasons.

  1194. This was not

  1195. a puny

  1196. emaciated

  1197. kind of person.

  1198. He was probably

  1199. renamed

  1200. because of his

  1201. appearance

  1202. because of his

  1203. job

  1204. and because of

  1205. the way he

  1206. carried out

  1207. his orders.

  1208. He was

  1209. ferocious.

1210. And let me tell you

  1211. Ariok didn't get

  1212. this job

  1213. for nothing

  1214. either.

  1215. He knew how

  1216. to follow orders

  1217. he was skilled

  1218. in his craft

  1219. and I think

  1220. it's safe to say

  1221. he was not

  1222. a man of mercy.

  1223. He was cold

  1224. he was methodical

  1225. and he was

  1226. unstoppable.

  1227. You could not

  1228. come against

  1229. this lion-like

  1230. man.

  1231. He was a

  1232. champion

  1233. of death.

  1234. He wasn't

  1235. going to be

  1236. reasoned with.

  1237. He receives

  1238. his orders

  1239. and he executes

  1240. them without

  1241. question.

  1242. No life is

  1243. spared.

  1244. But he shows

  1245. up at Daniel's

  1246. door

  1247. and the

  1248. remarkable

  1249. happens.

  1250. Because God

  1251. not only

  1252. sets himself

  1253. apart

  1254. as giving

  1255. revelation

  1256. but God

  1257. sets himself

  1258. apart

  1259. in providing

  1260. a spokesman

  1261. providing

  1262. a servant.

  1263. The general

  1264. revelation

  1265. that God

  1266. had given

  1267. to Nebuchadnezzar

  1268. was insufficient

  1269. was not

  1270. enough

  1271. and so

  1272. God

  1273. has set

  1274. himself

  1275. a servant

  1276. a spokesman

  1277. to communicate

  1278. his word

  1279. to Nebuchadnezzar.

  1280. He desires

  1281. Nebuchadnezzar

  1282. knowing

  1283. his word.

  1284. So notice

  1285. verse 14

  1286. Daniel

  1287. replied

  1288. with prudence

  1289. and discretion

  1290. to Ariok

  1291. the captain

  1292. of the king's

  1293. guard

  1294. who had

  1295. gone out

  1296. to kill

  1297. the wise

  1298. men of

  1299. Babylon

  1300. he declared

  1301. to Ariok

  1302. the king's

  1303. captain

  1304. why is

  1305. this decree

  1306. of the king

  1307. so urgent?

  1308. Then Ariok

  1309. made the matter

  1310. known to Daniel

  1311. and Daniel

  1312. went in

  1313. and requested

  1314. the king

  1315. to appoint

  1316. him a time

  1317. that he might

  1318. show the

  1319. interpretation

  1320. to the king.

  1321. Daniel

  1322. is not

  1323. surprised

  1324. at this

  1325. opportunity

  1326. that God

  1327. has placed

  1328. in his

  1329. lap

  1330. to be

  1331. a spokesman

  1332. for the

  1333. message

  1334. that God

  1335. has given.

  1336. Daniel

  1337. sees

  1338. God

  1339. through this

  1340. he recognized

  1341. that this

  1342. is God's

  1343. revelation

  1344. he recognizes

  1345. that he

  1346. has been

  1347. specially

  1348. and uniquely

  1349. set aside

  1350. for this

  1351. very task

  1352. Daniel

  1353. knows

  1354. that God

  1355. provides

  1356. spokesman

  1357. he's seen

  1358. that through

  1359. the course

  1360. of the history

  1361. of Israel

  1362. and here

  1363. he rises

  1364. to the occasion

  1365. and recognizes

  1366. that God

  1367. is at work

  1368. and God

  1369. has chosen

  1370. him

  1371. to speak

  1372. for God

  1373. before Nebuchadnezzar

  1374. there is a

  1375. calmness

  1376. in Daniel

  1377. I imagine

  1378. this commanding

  1379. figure

  1380. while he's

  1381. still young

  1382. still commands

  1383. this respect

  1384. he's not

  1385. demanding

  1386. he's not

  1387. argumentative

  1388. but he's

  1389. confident

  1390. and calm

  1391. Daniel

  1392. knows

  1393. that God

  1394. is in

  1395. this

  1396. he doesn't

  1397. need to worry

  1398. he doesn't

  1399. need to run

  1400. he only needs

  1401. to follow

  1402. God's lead

  1403. he only needs

  1404. to be available

  1405. for the plan

  1406. that God

  1407. has put

  1408. into place

  1409. and Daniel

  1410. seems genuinely

  1411. interested

  1412. in the king

  1413. Daniel

  1414. is interested

  1415. in the message

  1416. that God

  1417. has given

  1418. to Nebuchadnezzar

  1419. and you get

  1420. the sense

  1421. in Daniel's

  1422. questioning

  1423. of Ariok

  1424. that Daniel

  1425. is genuinely

  1426. interested

  1427. in the welfare

  1428. of the king

  1429. himself

  1430. and in this

  1431. way

  1432. God's servants

  1433. are also

  1434. distinct

  1435. we're going to

  1436. see this

  1437. throughout the

  1438. narrative

  1439. of Daniel

  1440. that God's

  1441. servants

  1442. care

  1443. for people

  1444. not just

  1445. their friends

  1446. that God's

  1447. servants

  1448. as Jesus

  1449. will say

  1450. in the

  1451. sermon on the

  1452. mount

  1453. they bless

  1454. those who

  1455. curse

  1456. them

  1457. they bless

  1458. and curse

  1459. not

  1460. that's what

  1461. Daniel is

  1462. doing

  1463. Daniel could

  1464. have viewed

  1465. this as a

  1466. golden opportunity

  1467. this was his

  1468. ticket to

  1469. eliminate the

  1470. competition

  1471. this was his

  1472. opportunity

  1473. for Nebuchadnezzar

  1474. to carry out

  1475. his sentence

  1476. and destroy

  1477. all the other

  1478. wise men

  1479. of Babylon

  1480. but Daniel

  1481. cares for them

  1482. as well

  1483. he cares

  1484. about them

  1485. even though

  1486. they were

  1487. mixed up

  1488. in this

  1489. dark arts

  1490. Daniel

  1491. replies

  1492. with wisdom

  1493. and prudence

  1494. Daniel is

  1495. careful

  1496. to respond

  1497. to Ariok

  1498. in a way

  1499. that leads

  1500. to the

  1501. right response

  1502. from Ariok

  1503. one commentator

  1504. puts it this

  1505. way

  1506. quote

  1507. the word

  1508. translated

  1509. discretion

  1510. is related

  1511. to the

  1512. Hebrew word

  1513. taste

  1514. here it

  1515. conveys

  1516. those

  1517. spiritual

  1518. instincts

  1519. of judgment

  1520. discernment

  1521. and what

  1522. we might

  1523. call

  1524. a sense

  1525. of the

  1526. realities

  1527. of the

  1528. situation

  1529. Daniel's

  1530. wisdom

  1531. was well

  1532. developed

  1533. this shows

  1534. his

  1535. spiritual

  1536. sense

  1537. of taste

  1538. end quote

  1539. he knew

  1540. how to

  1541. talk to

  1542. Ariok

  1543. he had

  1544. this

  1545. commanding

  1546. presence

  1547. and was

  1548. able to

  1549. speak

  1550. with him

  1551. in a way

  1552. that was

  1553. convincing

  1554. we're not

  1555. given the

  1556. words that

  1557. Daniel said

  1558. but perhaps

  1559. something along

  1560. these lines

  1561. Ariok

  1562. I can

  1563. answer

  1564. the

  1565. king's

  1566. impossible

  1567. request

  1568. and if

  1569. you take

  1570. me to

  1571. the

  1572. king

  1573. you'll

  1574. get the

  1575. credit

  1576. for

  1577. finding

  1578. me

  1579. what do

  1580. you have

  1581. to lose

  1582. after all

  1583. Ariok

  1584. if I'm

  1585. wrong

  1586. you can

  1587. kill me

  1588. anyway

  1589. so Daniel

  1590. stands

  1591. before the

  1592. king

  1593. and what

  1594. we find

  1595. is fascinating

  1596. notice this

  1597. phrase

  1598. and Daniel

  1599. went in

  1600. and requested

  1601. the king

  1602. to appoint

  1603. him a

  1604. time

  1605. again

  1606. we see

  1607. that God

  1608. is working

  1609. because remember

  1610. the wise

  1611. men had

  1612. requested a

  1613. time

  1614. and in

  1615. Daniel

    Daniel 2:8

  1616. chapter 2

  1617. verse 8

  1618. I know

  1619. with certainty

  1620. you are just

  1621. trying to gain

  1622. time

  1623. and Nebuchadnezzar

  1624. says no

  1625. way

  1626. but here

  1627. with Daniel

  1628. Daniel

  1629. requests a

  1630. time

  1631. and Nebuchadnezzar

  1632. gives him

  1633. time

  1634. God is

  1635. working

  1636. and Daniel's

  1637. confidence

  1638. in God

  1639. is coupled

  1640. with faith

  1641. he knows

  1642. that God

  1643. is able

  1644. to answer

  1645. Nebuchadnezzar's

  1646. request

  1647. he knows

  1648. that God

  1649. has given

  1650. instrumentally

  1651. this dream

  1652. and desires

  1653. for Nebuchadnezzar

  1654. to be led

  1655. in understanding

  1656. of who God

  1657. is

  1658. and finally

  1659. we find

  1660. in verses 17

  1661. and 18

  1662. Daniel asks

  1663. God

  1664. for the answer

  1665. Daniel knows

  1666. where to go

  1667. he doesn't go

  1668. to the counselors

  1669. he goes to God

  1670. the dream

  1671. has come

  1672. from him

  1673. notice

  1674. then Daniel

  1675. went to his house

  1676. and made the matter

  1677. known to Hananiah

  1678. Mishael

  1679. and Azariah

  1680. his companions

  1681. and told them

  1682. to seek mercy

  1683. from the God

  1684. of heaven

  1685. concerning this mystery

  1686. so that Daniel

  1687. and his companions

  1688. might not be destroyed

  1689. with the rest

  1690. of the wise men

  1691. of Babylon

  1692. Daniel goes home

  1693. he tells

  1694. his three friends

  1695. they bow their hearts

  1696. in their heads

  1697. before the God

  1698. of mercy

  1699. and they plead

  1700. with God

  1701. to reveal

  1702. to them

  1703. the answer

  1704. this word

  1705. for mercy

  1706. is the word

  1707. compassion

  1708. the word

  1709. for kindness

  1710. it's the description

  1711. that God

  1712. uses of himself

  1713. when he shows up

  1714. to Moses

  1715. in Exodus chapter 34

    Exodus 34 chapter mention

  1716. where it says

  1717. the Lord

  1718. passed before him

  1719. and proclaimed

  1720. the Lord

  1721. the Lord

  1722. a God

  1723. merciful

  1724. and gracious

  1725. slow to anger

  1726. and abounding

  1727. in steadfast love

  1728. and faithfulness

  1729. this is the God

  1730. to whom

  1731. Daniel

  1732. and his friends

  1733. pray

  1734. this is the God

  1735. they seek

  1736. God

  1737. delights

  1738. in mercy

  1739. and Daniel

  1740. recognizes

  1741. that God

  1742. is present

  1743. to show mercy

  1744. not only

  1745. to he

  1746. and his friends

  1747. but especially

  1748. to Nebuchadnezzar

  1749. another commentator

  1750. says this

  1751. I think it's helpful

  1752. for us

  1753. quote

  1754. why this

  1755. concentration

  1756. on mercies

  1757. were they concerned

  1758. primarily

  1759. for their own skins

  1760. were they self

  1761. centered

  1762. in asking God

  1763. to see them

  1764. in their plight

1765. and come to their aid

  1766. on the contrary

  1767. they sought mercy

  1768. from God

  1769. because they recognized

  1770. that they

  1771. and perhaps

  1772. they only

  1773. were his appointed

  1774. servants

  1775. there in Babylon

  1776. they were men

  1777. of destiny

  1778. who had been placed

  1779. in Babylon

  1780. for his glory

1781. to make his name known

  1782. it was because

  1783. their lives

  1784. were so intimately

  1785. intertwined

  1786. with God's glory

  1787. that they sought

  1788. his mercy

  1789. in order

  1790. that his glory

  1791. might be displayed

  1792. in Babylon

  1793. in revealing

  1794. the dream

  1795. and its meaning

  1796. Daniel explains

  1797. that God

  1798. had a purpose

  1799. in Nebuchadnezzar's

  1800. life

  1801. as well

  1802. even there

  1803. he stresses

  1804. that the mystery

  1805. had been revealed

  1806. quote

  1807. for our sakes

  1808. that's in

  1809. verse 30

  1810. end quote

  1811. Daniel

  1812. recognizes

  1813. that he and his

  1814. friends are there

  1815. in Babylon

  1816. as representatives

  1817. of the God

  1818. of mercy

  1819. they are there

  1820. to reveal

  1821. this dream

  1822. to Nebuchadnezzar

  1823. to help him

  1824. to understand

  1825. who God

  1826. was

  1827. so that Nebuchadnezzar

  1828. ultimately

  1829. could bow the knee

  1830. before that God

  1831. and could be rescued

  1832. himself

  1833. God has also

  1834. allowed us

  1835. to be agents

  1836. of mercy

  1837. in how we reveal

  1838. the word of God

  1839. to those around us

  1840. and just like

1841. we find in our story

  1842. we are to reveal

  1843. God's gospel

  1844. God's message

  1845. in two different ways

  1846. first we reveal

  1847. God's message

  1848. God's gospel

  1849. in the way

  1850. that we

  1851. behave

  1852. Philippians chapter 1

    Philippians 1:27

  1853. verses 27 and 28

  1854. says this

  1855. only let your conduct

  1856. be worthy

  1857. of the gospel

  1858. of Christ

  1859. so that whether

1860. I come and see you

  1861. or in absent

  1862. I may hear

  1863. of your affairs

  1864. that you stand fast

  1865. in one spirit

  1866. with one mind

  1867. striving together

  1868. for the faith

  1869. of the gospel

1870. and not in any way

  1871. terrified by your adversaries

  1872. which is to them

  1873. a proof of perdition

  1874. but to you

  1875. of salvation

  1876. and that from God

  1877. God has called us

  1878. as his children

  1879. as followers of Christ

  1880. to be distinct

  1881. from the world

  1882. as God is distinct

  1883. be holy

  1884. for I am holy

  1885. and that's what

  1886. positioned Daniel

  1887. and his friends

  1888. for this significant

  1889. task

  1890. they had resolved

  1891. in their hearts

  1892. that they would not

  1893. defile themselves

  1894. with the king's food

  1895. they set themselves

  1896. apart

  1897. they desired to live

  1898. in a worthy way

1899. and so God was able

  1900. to use them

  1901. we're called

  1902. to the same thing

  1903. we're called

  1904. to have worthy lives

  1905. and as Paul

  1906. will pray

  1907. he says

  1908. Lord that we would

  1909. walk worthy

1910. so that we'd be filled

  1911. with the fruits

  1912. of righteousness

1913. which are to the praise

  1914. and glory of God

  1915. we can show

  1916. the gospel

  1917. through our life

  1918. we must show

  1919. the gospel

  1920. through our life

1921. but that is not enough

  1922. not only general revelation

  1923. but also special revelation

  1924. as we find

  1925. in our final verse

  1926. in Romans chapter 10

    Romans 10:14

  1927. verses 14 and 17

  1928. it says this

  1929. how then shall they

  1930. call on him

1931. in whom they have not

  1932. believed

  1933. how shall they believe

  1934. in him

1935. on whom they have not heard

1936. and how shall they hear

  1937. without a preacher

1938. and how shall they preach

  1939. unless they are sent

  1940. as it is written

  1941. how beautiful

1942. are the feet of those

  1943. who preach the gospel

  1944. of peace

  1945. who bring glad tidings

  1946. of good things

  1947. so then faith

  1948. comes by hearing

  1949. and hearing

  1950. by the word

  1951. of God

  1952. all of us

  1953. who are called

  1954. to God

  1955. through the word

  1956. are now given

  1957. the privilege

  1958. of sharing

  1959. that gospel word

  1960. to others

  1961. so they too

  1962. can know

  1963. the God

  1964. who saves

  1965. come to terms

  1966. with their own sin

  1967. ask for forgiveness

  1968. and bow the knee

  1969. to Jesus Christ

  1970. and enjoy him

  1971. as the one

  1972. who forgives their sin

  1973. and leads them

  1974. to life in God

  1975. have you done that

  1976. this morning

  1977. have you ever

  1978. come to a place

  1979. of recognizing

  1980. yourself as a sinner

  1981. and asking God

  1982. for forgiveness

  1983. have you ever

  1984. bowed the knee

  1985. to Christ

  1986. and recognized

  1987. that he alone

  1988. is the one

  1989. who can save you

  1990. from your sin

  1991. if not

  1992. now is the moment

  1993. you can believe

1994. and for those of us

  1995. who have believed

  1996. we have this

  1997. amazing opportunity

  1998. to show

  1999. the gospel

  2000. and to speak

  2001. the gospel

  2002. through our life

  2003. and through our words

  2004. may God help us

  2005. to be faithful

  2006. let me pray

  2007. oh Lord

  2008. we thank you

  2009. for the example

  2010. of Daniel

  2011. thank you

  2012. that he recognized

  2013. that the God

  2014. of heaven

  2015. was over

  2016. this dream

  2017. and he was willing

  2018. to be useful

  2019. for you

  2020. to trust

  2021. in your revelation

  2022. to him

  2023. so that he could

  2024. speak to the king

  2025. the interpretation

  2026. God I pray

  2027. that you help us

  2028. as well

  2029. help us

  2030. not

  2031. to

  2032. be

  2033. selfish

  2034. with this word

  2035. help us

  2036. not to constrain

  2037. that word

  2038. to ourselves

  2039. but help us

  2040. to be faithful

  2041. and gracious

  2042. in distributing

  2043. that word

  2044. to others

  2045. because we know

  2046. that faith

  2047. comes only

  2048. through hearing

  2049. and hearing

  2050. through the word

  2051. of God

  2052. and God

  2053. there is

  2054. a world

  2055. around us

  2056. that is dying

  2057. and will ultimately

  2058. be separated

  2059. from you

  2060. and we have

  2061. the words

  2062. of life

  2063. the words

  2064. that we received

  2065. from your son

  2066. and so Lord

  2067. I pray that you

  2068. help us

  2069. to be faithful

  2070. help us

  2071. to be faithful

  2072. agents

  2073. of the gospel

  2074. in Jesus name

  2075. amen

  2076. God bless you

  2077. have a great week
