  1. Open your Bibles, if you would please, to Luke chapter 23.

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  2. ! Luke chapter 23.

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  3. And those who are kind of familiar with where we are in the flow of this story

  4. and so instead of entitling this the triumphal entry,

  5. we're gonna see this as the triumphal exit.

  6. That what Jesus will do in going to the cross and what Jesus will accomplish there

  7. is once for all victory over sin and death is the triumph that we all celebrate.

  8. You celebrate, I celebrate.

  9. If you've come to a place of recognizing what Christ has done for you

  10. and you have come to terms with your personal sin,

  11. your need for him, you've asked for forgiveness,

  12. it's because of this day, the day that we're gonna read about in our passage in Luke chapter 23,

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  13. the triumph of the cross in this triumphal exit.

  14. For the last 14 weeks, we've been moving through this final week,

  15. this Passion Week of Christ beginning on the previous Friday.

  16. We will call this kind of Good Friday.

  17. And by the way, I just want to remind you to come on Good Friday, this coming Friday,

  18. and we're gonna talk about the significance of the cross and what the cross accomplished for us.

  19. And I would encourage you to be here.

  20. It'll be a special time of blessing for you.

  21. But as we were kind of laying out the sermons that would kind of be part of this series,

  22. and we came to Palm Sunday, which is typically the triumphal entry,

  23. it just didn't make sense to talk about the cross on this day.

  24. But you know, the more I've looked at it over the past couple of weeks,

  25. the more I realize not only the similarities, but also the contrast of this day,

  26. the more I've looked at it over the past couple of weeks,

  27. the more I've looked at it over the past couple of weeks.

  28. You know, going back to the previous Friday,

  29. Jesus is coming into Jericho with his disciples,

  30. and he will turn to his disciples, we'll find in Luke chapter 18,

    Luke 18 chapter mention

  31. and he'll tell them exactly what this week is going to hold for them.

  32. Luke 18, beginning in verse 31, says,

  33. And in talking, or excuse me, in taking the twelve, he said to them,

  34. See, we're going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written about the Son of Man,

  35. by the prophets will be accomplished, for he will be delivered over to the Gentiles,

  36. and will be mocked, and shamefully treated, and spit upon.

  37. And after flogging him, they will kill him, and on the third day he will rise.

  38. But they understood none of these things.

  39. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.

  40. How could they have missed words that were so clear, so direct, so simple?

  41. Well, they missed it because of their expectation,

  42. of what they thought this Son of Man was going to do,

  43. what they thought Messiah was coming to accomplish.

  44. And they understood what the promises were,

  45. but they didn't get the timing of all of it.

  46. And Jesus wanted to help set a new expectation.

  47. Wanted to help them understand that suffering needed to come first,

  48. and then glory would follow.

  49. And so Jesus would confirm this picture throughout this week,

  50. and especially in Luke chapter 21, the previous chapter, verse 27,

    Luke 21 chapter mention

  51. Jesus says,

  52. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.

  53. This all is going to happen at the end of the age.

  54. Jesus wanted them to know that their appreciation and expectation of a king was right and good,

  55. and that Christ would eventually fulfill the things that were spoken of by the prophets.

  56. And so as Jesus rides into Jerusalem,

  57. those who are familiar with the Old Testament would have known Zechariah 9.9,

  58. which says,

  59. Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!

  60. Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem!

  61. Behold, your king is coming to you!

  62. Righteous and having salvation is he!

  63. Humble and mounted on a donkey,

  64. on a colt, the foal of a donkey!

  65. And so as Jesus mounts that donkey and rides into Jerusalem,

  66. this expectation of the Son of Man,

  67. who's coming to establish his kingdom,

  68. would have been ignited in the hearts of all the people.

  69. There's no wonder there's a frenzy.

  70. There's no wonder that this long-awaited king,

  71. this thought that he had come,

  72. finally to fulfill this promise.

  73. And so as the crowds go out to join and welcome Christ into the city,

  74. we find from the gospel records,

  75. in Matthew chapter 21,

    Matthew 21 chapter mention

  76. we find they say,

  77. Hosanna to the Son of David!

  78. In Mark's account, they say,

  79. Hosanna!

  80. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!

  81. Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!

  82. Hosanna in the highest!

  83. Then in Luke's account,

  84. Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!

  85. Peace in heaven,

  86. in glory in the highest!

  87. And that's what they understood Jesus to accomplish and to do.

  88. That's what they expected him to fulfill.

  89. And so,

  90. in coming to this morning,

  91. and thinking about this passage,

  92. wondering,

  93. how does the triumphal entry compare with this triumphal exit?

  94. And I'm amazed at the number of details that we see in both accounts

  95. that kind of set this contrast in comparison side by side.

  96. We see that rather than Jesus entering the city,

  97. he's exiting the city.

  98. We see that rather than being celebrated by people,

  99. those people who are with him are now mourning.

  100. We see that rather than being celebrated as a king,

  101. he's now numbered as a criminal.

  102. And we see the crowds,

  103. that while they cheered Hosanna to the Son of David,

  104. now they mock.

  105. And the prominent theme of our passage this morning,

  106. which is a lot like the triumphal entry

  107. in the concentration of this title,

  108. Christ,

  109. the chosen one,

  110. the king,

  111. the son of David,

  112. comes kind of to a great level of concentration

  113. in this passage,

  114. very much like what we see at the triumphal entry.

  115. Just briefly look at Luke chapter 23,

    Luke 23:35–39

  116. verse 35 to 39.

  117. It says,

  118. The people stood by,

  119. watching,

  120. but the rulers scoffed at him.

  121. He saved others,

  122. let him save himself,

  123. if he is the Christ of God,

  124. the chosen one.

  125. In mocking,

  126. but still this title,

  127. this recognition of what Jesus had embraced to himself,

  128. this title of king,

  129. this chosen one.

  130. And then the soldiers pick up the mocking in verse 36.

  131. The soldiers also mocked him,

  132. coming up and offering him sour wine and saying,

  133. If you are the king of the Jews,

  134. save yourself.

  135. And Pilate creates an inscription that is put above Christ's head.

  136. There was also an inscription there in verse 38,

  137. Over him,

  138. this is the king of the Jews.

  139. And then in verse 39,

  140. one of the criminals who were hanged,

  141. railed at him saying,

  142. Are you not the Christ?

  143. Save yourself and us.

  144. Like no other time in the ministry of Jesus,

  145. this title,

  146. Christ,

  147. the coming one,

  148. the king of the Jews,

  149. comes out into the open.

  150. Christ is here.

  151. This was not a time of tragedy.

  152. This was a time of triumph.

  153. Jesus was,

  154. in fact,

  155. and is the king.

  156. And we're going to see that as we move our way through this passage.

  157. We're going to see the triumph of the king.

  158. The triumph of our savior,

  159. Jesus.

  160. We pick it up in verse 26.

  161. We're going to begin to see the triumphant king,

  162. who is gathering his people from the nations.

  163. The triumph of the king,

  164. in gathering his people from the nations.

  165. Let me read for us,

  166. the next several verses,

  167. kind of give us a context for our passage today.

  168. And then just zeroing in for a moment on verse 26.

  169. It says,

  170. And they led him away.

  171. They seized one Simon of Cyrene,

  172. who was coming in from the country.

  173. And they laid on him the cross,

  174. to carry it behind Jesus.

  175. And there followed him a great multitude of people,

  176. and women,

  177. who were mourning and lamenting for him.

  178. But turning to them,

  179. Jesus said,

  180. Daughters of Jerusalem,

  181. do not weep for me,

  182. but weep for yourselves and for your children.

  183. For behold,

  184. the days are coming when they will say,

  185. Blessed are the barren,

  186. and the wombs that never bore,

  187. and the breasts that never nursed.

  188. Then they will begin to say to the mountains,

  189. Fall on us,

  190. and to the hills,

  191. Cover us.

  192. For if they do these things,

  193. when the wood is green,

  194. what will happen when it is dry?

  195. Triumphant in gathering his people from the nations.

  196. We come to this first verse,

  197. verse 26,

  198. and we need to ask ourselves the question,

  199. is Simon the Cyrene,

  200. kind of this incidental kind of character,

  201. that just seems to fit in the story,

  202. or is it by design?

  203. And I believe,

  204. the more I have looked at this passage this week,

  205. I recognize that this is not just incidental.

  206. Of course,

  207. everything that's unfolding in this passage,

  208. is happening according to the divine and perfect plan of God,

  209. from before the creation of the world.

  210. And so,

  211. Simon the Cyrene is here for a reason.

  212. Well,

  213. initially,

  214. we know that from the gospel of John,

  215. that Jesus began to carry his own cross.

  216. John 19,

  217. 16,

  218. so he delivered him over,

  219. speaking of Pilate,

  220. delivered him over to them to be crucified,

  221. so they took Jesus,

  222. and he went out bearing his own cross to the place,

  223. that is called the skull,

  224. which in Aramaic,

  225. is called Golgotha.

  226. Jesus,

  227. initially,

  228. carried his own cross,

  229. but we can appreciate that a Christ,

  230. who was weakened by all the physical trauma,

  231. that his body endured,

  232. over the last 24 hours,

  233. has been weakened in a significant way.

  234. His hour-long struggle in prayer to the Father,

  235. and the strengthening work of that angel,

  236. but then he falls exhausted to pray some more,

  237. all night long trial,

  238. in at least three different places.

  239. The physical abuse that he suffered,

  240. at the hands of wicked men.

  241. The hair that was pulled out of his face.

  242. The face that was used as a punching bag,

  243. and slapped across the face.

  244. The crown of thorns that was placed on his head,

  245. and the reed that was used,

  246. to pound those thorns into his flesh.

  247. The scourging,

  248. the beating,

  249. the back and torso,

  250. and back of his legs,

  251. that were torn open by the whip,

  252. that had shards of bone,

  253. and wood,

  254. and glass,

  255. embedded into it.

  256. This loss of blood,

  257. and physical abuse,

  258. had taken its toll,

  259. for sure,

  260. on the life of Jesus.

  261. And walking with this burden of the cross,

  262. this cross beam,

  263. which had been anywhere between,

  264. 70 to 100 pounds,

  265. Jesus is struggling,

  266. to carry this cross.

  267. And it seems a strange detail,

  268. to include,

  269. they seized Simon of Cyrene.

  270. But we find this detail,

  271. in our passage today.

  272. Jesus of course,

  273. has been walking step by step,

  274. in the father's will,

  275. and each piece,

  276. of this story,

  277. is given to us,

  278. by design.

  279. Although Jesus was,

  280. weakened by,

  281. the loss of blood,

  282. and the physical pounding,

  283. Simon of Cyrene,

  284. is drawn out of the crowd,

  285. and is asked to,

  286. to carry,

  287. this cross beam,

  288. for the Christ.

  289. Simon,

  290. which was a typical,

  291. a common name,

  292. in,

  293. first century Israel.

  294. There's at least,

  295. nine,

  296. individuals,

  297. named Simon,

  298. throughout the New Testament.

  299. And being from Cyrene,

  300. it was a city,

  301. in the northern part,

  302. of Africa.

  303. In what would be,

  304. the current day,

  305. of Libya.

  306. You see,

  307. Cyrene had,

  308. nearly 100,000 Jews,

  309. that were living there.

  310. An establishment,

  311. that was there,

  312. of Jews.

  313. And now pilgrims,

  314. had made their way,

  315. to Jerusalem.

  316. We would find,

  317. these pilgrims,

  318. who would be present,

  319. not only during,

  320. the Passover feast,

  321. but would stay,

  322. 50 days later,

  323. and would also be present,

  324. at the day of Pentecost.

  325. Acts chapter 2,

    Acts 2:7

  326. verses 7 and 11,

  327. kind of describe for us,

  328. the individuals,

  329. that would hear,

  330. the word,

  331. the mighty works of God,

  332. that were shared to them.

  333. Those who were from Egypt,

  334. and from parts of Libya,

  335. belonging to Cyrene.

  336. This is not,

  337. an incidental,

  338. piece of information.

  339. The significance,

  340. of this,

  341. points to the triumph,

  342. of the Lord,

  343. in beginning,

  344. to fulfill the promise,

  345. that he had made,

  346. to Israel.

  347. The promise,

  348. that he had made,

  349. to them,

  350. in the midst,

  351. of their rebellion,

  352. that when,

  353. he had scattered them,

  354. because of their rebellion,

  355. to Babylon,

  356. and to Assyria,

  357. and the nations,

  358. that would come,

  359. and to scatter them,

  360. across the face,

  361. of the earth,

  362. that God,

  363. by his grace,

  364. would forgive,

  365. and restore,

  366. and bring,

  367. his people,

  368. back,

  369. to Israel.

  370. Jeremiah 29,

  371. 14,

  372. the prophet says,

  373. I will be found,

  374. by you,

  375. declares the Lord,

  376. and I will restore,

  377. your fortunes,

  378. and gather you,

  379. from all the nations,

  380. and all the places,

  381. where I have driven you,

  382. declares the Lord,

  383. and I will bring you,

  384. back,

  385. to the place,

  386. from which,

  387. I sent you,

  388. into exile.

  389. And I believe,

  390. this is just,

  391. a glimmer,

  392. a shadow,

  393. of that fulfillment,

  394. that God,

  395. is beginning to work out,

  396. for his people,

  397. and in drawing them,

  398. back to the land,

  399. that God will draw,

  400. his triumph,

  401. in drawing,

  402. his people back,

  403. to the nation.

  404. Second,

  405. we find,

  406. this triumphant,

  407. the triumphant,

  408. Christ,

  409. who is securing judgment,

  410. for the disobedient,

  411. in verses 27,

  412. to 31.

  413. It says,

  414. and there followed him,

  415. from a great multitude,

  416. of the people,

  417. and of the women,

  418. who were mourning,

  419. and lamenting,

  420. but turning,

  421. to them Jesus said,

  422. daughters,

  423. of Jerusalem,

  424. do not weep,

  425. for me,

  426. but weep for yourselves,

  427. and for your children,

  428. for behold,

  429. the days are coming,

  430. when they will say,

  431. blessed are the barren,

  432. and the wombs,

  433. that never bore,

  434. and the breasts,

  435. that never nursed,

  436. then they will begin,

  437. to say to the mountains,

  438. fall on us,

  439. and to the hills,

  440. cover us,

  441. for if they do,

  442. these things,

  443. when the wood is green,

  444. what will happen,

  445. when it is dry,

  446. this great multitude,

  447. is following,

  448. after Jesus,

  449. it's the same word,

  450. by the way,

  451. of the multitude,

  452. that came out of Jerusalem,

  453. at the beginning of the week,

  454. to greet Jesus,

  455. and welcome him,

  456. into the city,

  457. already very early,

  458. in the morning,

  459. Jesus was crucified,

  460. around nine o'clock,

  461. in the morning,

  462. and yet,

  463. all of this attention,

  464. and all of the,

  465. the visibility,

  466. has taken place,

  467. so people are,

  468. have moved,

  469. to the scene,

  470. we find this group,

  471. of women here,

  472. it's only mentioned,

  473. in Luke,

  474. who are these women,

  475. well they're mourning,

  476. in lamenting women,

  477. this word for mourning,

  478. is to cut,

  479. to cut to the heart,

  480. to cut to the quick,

  481. to mourn,

  482. it's the same word,

  483. that is used,

  484. for the mourning,

  485. that we find,

  486. in Luke chapter eight,

  487. where Jesus will go,

  488. to the home,

  489. of Jairus,

  490. and he will raise,

  491. Jairus's daughter,

  492. but you remember,

  493. as Jesus is making his way,

  494. through that home,

  495. the mourners are there,

  496. those professional,

  497. weepers are there,

  498. they're doing their job,

  499. of providing some consolation,

  500. to Jairus,

  501. and his wife,

  502. and the family,

  503. they're wailing,

  504. it's emotional response,

  505. to the,

  506. to the things,

  507. that are unfolding,

  508. in front of them,

  509. we don't know,

  510. because Luke doesn't tell us,

  511. whether or not,

  512. their mourning,

  513. and lamenting,

  514. is sincere,

  515. but we can get,

  516. a taste,

  517. of whether or not,

  518. it was sincere,

  519. based upon,

  520. Jesus's response,

  521. to them,

  522. notice,

  523. Jesus provides,

  524. this direct response,

  525. to these women,

  526. they're not weeping,

  527. because they're true disciples,

  528. but they seem,

  529. to be weeping,

  530. for some sense,

  531. of sympathy,

  532. that they recognize,

  533. the horror,

  534. of what Jesus,

  535. is about to experience,

  536. but they,

  537. they demonstrate,

  538. through their life,

  539. they don't really,

  540. understand,

  541. the message,

  542. they haven't really,

  543. become followers,

  544. of Christ,

  545. and I say that,

  546. because of what Jesus,

  547. indicates,

  548. do not weep,

  549. for me,

  550. but weep,

  551. for yourselves,

  552. weep,

  553. for yourselves,

  554. judgment,

  555. is coming,

  556. weep,

  557. for yourselves,

  558. because of all,

  559. the things,

  560. that I had promised,

  561. during this week,

  562. that would befall,

  563. Jerusalem,

  564. this destruction,

  565. of the temple,

  566. this international,

  567. crisis,

  568. that will begin,

  569. to break loose,

  570. this day,

  571. of the Lord,

  572. and this period,

  573. of judgment,

  574. that will come,

  575. and the final,

  576. culmination,

  577. of the son of man,

  578. that will come,

  579. in the clouds,

  580. with power,

  581. and glory,

  582. no don't weep,

  583. for me,

  584. weep,

  585. for yourselves,

  586. judgment,

  587. is coming,

  588. Jesus,

  589. had said,

  590. that all things,

  591. that were written,

  592. about the son of man,

  593. would be fulfilled,

  594. and Jesus,

  595. has already,

  596. warned mothers,

  597. especially,

  598. that during this time,

  599. it will be difficult,

  600. the barrenness,

  601. that was often,

  602. looked at,

  603. in first century,

  604. as a plight,

  605. to mothers,

  606. would now,

  607. actually see,

  608. be seen,

  609. as a blessing,

  610. Luke 21,

  611. 23,

  612. alas,

  613. for women,

  614. who are pregnant,

  615. and for those,

  616. who are nursing infants,

  617. in those days,

  618. for there will be,

  619. great distress,

  620. upon the earth,

  621. and wrath,

  622. against,

  623. this people,

  624. and because of,

  625. the wrath of God,

  626. this day of the Lord,

  627. this judgment,

  628. that is coming,

  629. on the wicked,

  630. those who reject,

  631. the message of Christ,

  632. and Jesus directing,

  633. his attention to them,

  634. calling these women,

  635. who are mourning,

  636. and sympathizing,

  637. with what was about,

  638. to unfold,

  639. Jesus wants to redirect,

  640. and help them understand,

  641. the situation,

  642. in which they're living,

  643. that they will be,

  644. recipients of,

  645. this divine,

  646. judgment,

  647. and things,

  648. will be so bad,

  649. that they will call,

  650. for the rocks,

  651. to fall,

  652. on their heads,

  653. eliminate this,

  654. difficulty,

  655. as soon,

  656. as possible,

  657. and so the certainty,

  658. of this promise,

  659. even though,

  660. the son of man,

  661. is on his way,

  662. to the cross,

  663. even though,

  664. Jesus Christ,

  665. will be killed,

  666. in on that day,

  667. that good Friday,

  668. the end,

  669. is not over,

  670. Jesus is securing,

  671. condemnation,

  672. on the unjust,

  673. he is securing,

  674. once for all,

  675. through his death,

  676. on the cross,

  677. that there will be,

  678. judgment,

  679. that will be paid,

  680. that will be had,

  681. on those,

  682. who refuse,

  683. the offer,

  684. of mercy,

  685. and then Jesus,

  686. makes this very,

  687. interesting statement,

  688. we find in verse 31,

  689. for if they do,

  690. these things,

  691. when the wood is green,

  692. what will happen,

  693. when it is dry,

  694. any of you,

  695. who have built,

  696. a campfire,

  697. or tried to start,

  698. a campfire,

  699. will know,

  700. that when you,

  701. take limbs,

  702. or twigs,

  703. from trees,

  704. that are green,

  705. it's very difficult,

  706. to try to start,

  707. that fire,

  708. but when you take,

  709. those limbs,

  710. or sticks,

  711. from trees,

  712. that are on the ground,

  713. have been there for a while,

  714. they're dry,

  715. you know how much easier,

  716. it is to start the fire,

  717. and Jesus now,

  718. is helping these ladies,

  719. he's kind of,

  720. bringing them back,

  721. to the whole purpose,

  722. for their mourning,

  723. their mourning for him,

  724. because of,

  725. this apparent judgment,

  726. that has come upon Christ,

  727. he's going to the cross,

  728. and Jesus is this,

  729. this green,

  730. this green tree,

  731. this perfect man,

  732. this righteous individual,

  733. there is life,

  734. in Christ,

  735. and yet,

  736. he is still facing,

  737. judgment,

  738. how much more then,

  739. how much more,

  740. will those who deserve judgment,

  741. face,

  742. the judgment of God,

  743. face,

  744. even the judgment,

  745. from Rome,

  746. this warning,

  747. is brought front,

  748. and center,

  749. to help,

  750. these ladies,

  751. understand the significance,

  752. of this moment,

  753. and for us,

  754. Jesus,

  755. wants us to recognize,

  756. as he did Nicodemus,

  757. back in John,

    John 3:17

  758. chapter 3,

  759. verses 17,

  760. and 18,

  761. that condemnation,

  762. is on,

  763. all of those,

  764. who choose,

  765. not to believe,

  766. God did not,

  767. send his son,

  768. into the world,

  769. to condemn the world,

  770. but in order,

  771. that the world,

  772. might be saved,

  773. through him,

  774. whoever believes,

  775. in him,

  776. is not condemned,

  777. but whoever,

  778. does not believe,

  779. is condemned already,

  780. because he has not,

  781. believed in the name,

  782. of the only,

  783. son of God,

  784. God,

  785. the sympathy,

  786. that was given,

  787. by these women,

  788. their hearts,

  789. of compassion,

  790. in recognizing,

  791. what Jesus,

  792. was going to endure,

  793. wasn't enough,

  794. there needed,

  795. to be faith,

  796. there needed,

  797. to be understanding,

  798. and who Jesus was,

  799. and this morning,

  800. this morning,

  801. whatever,

  802. is on the outside,

  803. whatever you feel,

  804. in terms of devotion,

  805. to God,

  806. whatever,

  807. whatever you want,

  808. to be true,

  809. in terms of,

  810. of your commitment,

  811. to try to,

  812. following after him,

  813. it doesn't matter,

  814. if there's not genuine,

  815. faith in your life,

  816. if you don't believe,

  817. in him,

  818. then you're condemned,

  819. already,

  820. do you believe,

  821. in the son,

  822. do you believe,

  823. in the Christ,

  824. do you believe,

  825. in the one,

  826. the Messiah,

  827. who's coming,

  828. to establish his kingdom,

  829. on this earth,

  830. Jesus is triumphant,

  831. in condemning sin,

  832. but it doesn't end there,

  833. the hope is found,

  834. in verses 32,

  835. to 43,

  836. that Jesus,

  837. is triumphant,

  838. in providing,

  839. a way of forgiveness,

  840. he's triumphant,

  841. in providing,

  842. a way of forgiveness,

  843. it doesn't just,

  844. end,

  845. with condemnation,

  846. there's hope,

  847. for those who trust,

  848. for those who believe,

  849. for those who,

  850. recognize their sin,

  851. he provides,

  852. this way,

  853. of forgiveness,

  854. and,

  855. and,

  856. and,

  857. and,

  858. I want to just,

  859. kind of zero in,

  860. on these two statements,

  861. that Jesus makes,

  862. first,

  863. in verse 34,

  864. where he says,

  865. Father,

  866. forgive them,

  867. for they know not,

  868. what they do,

  869. this first statement,

  870. of Jesus,

  871. on the cross,

  872. Father,

  873. forgive them,

  874. forgive them,

  875. they know not,

  876. what they do,

  877. and then the,

  878. then the correlating statement,

  879. we find in verse 43,

  880. truly I say to you,

  881. today,

  882. you will be with me,

  883. in paradise,

  884. forgiveness,

  885. secured,

  886. forgiveness,

  887. realized,

  888. today,

  889. today,

  890. he will be with me,

  891. in paradise,

  892. there is forgiveness,

  893. this offer,

  894. that's extended,

  895. of mercy,

  896. and grace,

  897. of our savior,

  898. because of the triumph,

  899. on the cross,

  900. how is it possible,

  901. well there's several reasons,

  902. why it was possible,

  903. that we find,

  904. in our text,

  905. first,

  906. it was possible,

  907. this providing a way,

  908. of forgiveness,

  909. was possible,

  910. because,

  911. Jesus became sin,

  912. for us,

  913. he became sin,

  914. for us,

  915. notice in verse,

  916. 32,

  917. two others,

  918. who were criminals,

  919. were led away,

  920. to be put to death,

  921. with him,

  922. and when they came,

  923. to the place,

  924. that is called,

  925. the skull,

  926. they were,

  927. there they crucified him,

  928. and the criminals,

  929. one on his right,

  930. and one on his left,

  931. and Jesus said,

  932. father,

  933. forgive them,

  934. for they know,

  935. not what,

  936. they do,

  937. it's important,

  938. for us to understand,

  939. that forgiveness,

  940. forgiveness,

  941. is not just something,

  942. that God can grant,

  943. because he wants to,

  944. that forgiveness,

  945. is not something,

  946. that God can do,

  947. and just kind of,

  948. overlook sin,

  949. that he can act,

  950. as if sin doesn't matter,

  951. that he can kind of,

  952. turn a blind eye,

  953. to it in some way,

  954. no,

  955. no you understand,

  956. and we all understand,

  957. that justice,

  958. a perfect,

  959. righteous,

  960. holy God,

  961. a righteous judge,

  962. cannot just,

  963. allow sin,

  964. to happen,

  965. without consequence,

  966. he cannot turn,

  967. a blind eye,

  968. you understand this,

  969. if you ever get,

  970. have ever gotten,

  971. into an accident,

  972. and,

  973. and whether or not,

  974. it was,

  975. the person,

  976. had an intentionally,

  977. run into you,

  978. or it was an accident,

  979. if they,

  980. if what you're,

  981. what you're expecting,

  982. for them to do,

  983. is to cover,

  984. the cost,

  985. of the accident,

  986. or the damage,

  987. that's been done,

  988. to your car,

  989. that's what justice,

  990. demands,

  991. and if,

  992. this case,

  993. was taken,

  994. to a judge,

  995. for whatever reason,

  996. because he,

  997. denied culpability,

  998. then you would,

  999. take it to a judge,

  1000. perhaps,

  1001. and,

  1002. and if the judge,

  1003. recognized,

  1004. that this individual,

  1005. was guilty,

  1006. but this person said,

  1007. hey,

  1008. please forgive me,

  1009. and the judge says,

  1010. eh,

  1011. all right,

  1012. no problem,

  1013. you're free,

  1014. we wouldn't call that,

  1015. justice,

  1016. would we,

1017. well the same is true,

  1018. of,

  1019. of God,

  1020. God cannot,

  1021. as a righteous,

  1022. and holy judge,

  1023. turn a blind eye,

  1024. to sin,

  1025. justice,

  1026. demands,

  1027. consequence,

  1028. and that code,

  1029. has been hardwired,

  1030. into every,

  1031. one of us,

1032. so in order for God,

  1033. to extend,

  1034. forgiveness,

  1035. a price,

  1036. needed to be paid,

1037. and that's what we find,

  1038. in Romans chapter 6,

    Romans 6:23

  1039. verse 23,

  1040. the wages of sin,

  1041. is death,

  1042. but,

  1043. while it is unjust,

  1044. to overlook,

  1045. rebellion,

  1046. and wickedness,

  1047. it's also,

  1048. unjust,

  1049. for God,

  1050. to condemn,

  1051. innocence,

  1052. it's wrong,

  1053. for God,

  1054. to execute,

  1055. or condemn,

  1056. an individual,

  1057. who's done nothing wrong,

  1058. so how was it,

  1059. that the perfect,

  1060. holy savior,

  1061. would die,

  1062. on the cross,

  1063. we find,

  1064. through this chapter,

  1065. on seven occasions,

  1066. Jesus is declared,

  1067. innocent,

  1068. just briefly,

1069. look at that with me,

  1070. in chapter 23,

  1071. verse 4,

  1072. notice,

  1073. Pilate said,

  1074. to the chief priest,

  1075. in the crowd,

  1076. I find no guilt,

  1077. in this man,

  1078. then dropping down,

  1079. to verse 14,

  1080. you brought me,

  1081. this man,

  1082. as one who is,

  1083. misleading the people,

  1084. and after examining,

  1085. him before you,

  1086. behold,

  1087. I did not find,

  1088. this man guilty,

  1089. of any,

  1090. of your charges,

  1091. against him,

  1092. then in verse 15,

  1093. neither,

  1094. did Herod,

  1095. for he sent,

  1096. him back to us,

  1097. look,

  1098. nothing deserving,

  1099. of death,

  1100. has been done,

  1101. by him,

  1102. then verse 22,

  1103. a third time,

  1104. he said to them,

  1105. why,

  1106. what evil,

  1107. has he done,

  1108. I have found,

  1109. in him,

  1110. no guilt,

  1111. deserving,

  1112. of death,

  1113. then in verse 41,

  1114. this is the,

  1115. the criminal,

  1116. on the cross,

  1117. it says,

  1118. and we,

  1119. indeed justly,

  1120. we've been condemned,

  1121. we've been condemned,

  1122. justly,

  1123. for we are receiving,

  1124. the due,

  1125. reward of our deeds,

  1126. but this man,

  1127. has done,

  1128. nothing wrong,

  1129. and then finally,

  1130. in verse 47,

  1131. now when the centurion,

  1132. saw that,

1133. saw what had taken place,

  1134. he praised God,

  1135. saying certainly,

  1136. this man,

  1137. was innocent,

  1138. the innocence,

  1139. of Christ,

  1140. that comes,

  1141. right out,

  1142. into the open,

  1143. through this entire chapter,

  1144. how can God,

  1145. the father,

  1146. allow,

  1147. his innocent son,

  1148. to be condemned,

  1149. well it's because,

  1150. this innocent son,

  1151. became sin for us,

  1152. this innocent son,

  1153. embraced the sin,

  1154. for you and me,

1155. so that we can enjoy,

  1156. the benefits,

  1157. of his,

  1158. his payment,

  1159. we find,

  1160. Luke chapter 23,

    Luke 23:32

  1161. verses 32,

  1162. to 43,

  1163. to others,

  1164. were,

  1165. were criminals,

  1166. were led away,

  1167. and put to death,

  1168. with him,

  1169. Jesus was numbered,

  1170. right along,

  1171. with the criminals,

  1172. we find in verse,

  1173. chapter 22,

  1174. verse 37,

  1175. that Jesus,

  1176. states that this,

1177. this will be a reality,

  1178. he tells his disciples,

  1179. I tell you,

  1180. that the scripture,

1181. must be fulfilled in me,

  1182. and he,

  1183. speaking of himself,

  1184. was numbered,

  1185. with the transgressors,

  1186. for what was written,

  1187. about me,

  1188. has its fulfillment,

  1189. I must be,

  1190. counted,

  1191. as one,

  1192. his transgressor,

  1193. and Jesus,

  1194. was condemned,

  1195. as a criminal,

  1196. and Jesus,

  1197. became sin for us,

  1198. as we find,

  1199. in 2nd Corinthians,

  1200. 521,

  1201. it says,

  1202. for he made him,

  1203. who knew no sin,

1204. to be sin for us,

  1205. that we,

  1206. might become,

  1207. the righteousness,

  1208. of God,

  1209. in him,

  1210. Jesus,

  1211. became,

  1212. sin,

  1213. and by him,

  1214. becoming sin,

  1215. he has made,

  1216. a way,

  1217. for forgiveness,

  1218. by taking,

  1219. the punishment,

  1220. that we deserve,

  1221. that,

  1222. the,

  1223. the,

1224. The just and righteous condemnation that we deserve,

1225. Jesus, the righteous and holy God, took in our place.

1226. So that we could enjoy the benefits of his death in payment for us.

1227. So the cross was more than an instrument of death.

1228. The cross was an instrument of triumph.

1229. Triumph as Jesus offers forgiveness.

1230. In verse 34, we see that Jesus, he extends forgiveness.

  1231. We see that.

1232. He says, Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.

1233. And we see this heart of Christ and his willingness to extend this mercy

1234. and this grace having gone through all that Jesus went through leading up to this point.

1235. And here he is now pinned to the cross and his heart explodes with a desire to forgive.

1236. It is so unlike us, wouldn't you say?

1237. This past week, trying to decide whether or not to share this.

1238. This past week, somebody told me something that was absolutely crushing.

  1239. It just devastated me.

  1240. Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

1241. Now, I realized that the biggest problem with the statement and why I was struggling

1242. wasn't necessarily because it was a wrong statement.

  1243. It may be right.

1244. But really because of my own personal pride.

1245. So that was kind of at the heart of my response here.

1246. But at the end of the day, it hurt.

  1247. It hurt bad.

1248. It just knocked the wind out of me.

1249. And so rising up in my heart, rising up in my heart,

1250. and I imagine in your hearts too, we'd be like,

1251. okay, is that how you want it?

1252. Is that how you want to play?

  1253. Okay, fine.

  1254. Friendship over.

  1255. Right?

1256. That's kind of what we want to say.

1257. And now, I don't necessarily have a power for revenge.

  1258. Right?

1259. I can do my little thing.

1260. But Jesus, Jesus on the cross,

1261. he has every power to exact revenge in that moment

1262. to everyone who is standing there at the foot of his cross.

  1263. Every single person.

1264. And what does Jesus do?

  1265. Father, forgive them.

1266. They know not what they do.

  1267. He extends forgiveness.

1268. He doesn't do what was so natural for us.

1269. He responds in the grace of God.

1270. He conveys the blessing for the sake of cursing.

1271. And when reviled, he did not revile in return,

1272. but he entrusted himself to him who judges justly.

  1273. That is our God.

1274. And that's what makes forgiveness possible.

1275. Next, we see the forgiveness of God

1276. by remaining obedient to the will of God.

1277. Remaining obedient to the will of God.

1278. And I just, I want to read this briefly.

  1279. There's a lot to share here.

1280. We don't have time for all the details.

1281. And I just want to focus and concentrate on what we see here.

1282. I want you to see in this, in the next several verses,

1283. from verse 36 all the way to 39,

1284. I want you to see all the individuals

1285. that threw it in Christ's face,

1286. that said, prove who you are.

1287. If you're the Christ, come on down.

1288. Prove that you're the person you say you are.

1289. And every one of us in this room, by the way,

  1290. would say, okay, fine.

1291. You want me to prove the statements that I made?

  1292. I'm coming down.

1293. I'm going to show you.

  1294. But not our Savior.

1295. Because our Savior remained obedient to the will of God.

  1296. Notice verse 36.

  1297. Come on.

1298. Show us who you are.

1299. Are you the Christ of God?

1300. Are you the chosen one?

1301. Come on down and prove it.

1302. If not, we know you're a fraud.

1303. So, now the soldiers pick up the mantle.

1304. The soldiers also mocked him coming up

1305. and offering him sour wine

  1306. and saying,

1307. if you are the king of the Jews,

  1308. save yourself.

1309. And then this mocking inscription

1310. that's written above our Savior,

1311. there was also an inscription over him,

1312. this is the king of the Jews.

1313. You can almost hear the little sarcastic

  1314. laugh behind the words.

  1315. And finally, verse 39,

1316. even the criminals got a part in this.

  1317. One of the criminals,

  1318. and by the way,

1319. the gospel records in Matthew and Mark

  1320. include them both.

1321. But here Luke just is drawing out

1322. towards the end of this.

  1323. One of the criminals

  1324. who were hanged, nailed,

1325. excuse me, railed at him saying,

1326. are you not the Christ?

  1327. Save yourself and us.

1328. So why did Christ stay?

1329. Well, Christ stayed to offer forgiveness to you.

1330. Christ stayed and remained obedient to the will of God

1331. so he could offer salvation and life.

  1332. It's amazing.

1333. We also find in verses 40 to 43

1334. that Jesus makes a way to heaven.

  1335. He's making a way to heaven.

1336. We see this here in his interaction

  1337. with this other criminal.

  1338. Verse 40,

1339. But the others rebuked him.

1340. This is the other criminal rebuking the first one,

  1341. saying,

1342. Do you not fear God

1343. since you are under the same sentence of condemnation?

  1344. And we indeed justly,

1345. for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds?

1346. But this man has done nothing wrong.

  1347. And he said,

  1348. Jesus, remember me

1349. when you come into your kingdom.

1350. And he said to him,

1351. Truly I say to you,

1352. today you will be with me in paradise.

1353. Today you will be with me in paradise.

1354. This promise of a criminal

  1355. who's tacked to a cross

1356. has no way to demonstrate his commitment.

1357. He's not going to be getting baptized.

1358. He's not going to be going to church.

1359. He's not going to be doing any special merit

1360. to get or earn the salvation

1361. that he's going to enjoy that very day.

1362. It happens through faith in Christ alone

1363. and through the work of Christ on the cross

  1364. for his sake.

1365. But I want you to recognize,

1366. and we have to do this briefly,

1367. I want you to recognize

1368. the marks of genuine conversion

1369. that are taking place in this criminal.

1370. First, I want you to see,

1371. and we see this in our text,

  1372. that this man,

  1373. he demonstrates and shows

1374. a proper fear of God.

1375. He shows a proper fear of God.

  1376. Notice that with me.

1377. He says in verse 40,

1378. Do you not fear God

1379. since you are under the same sentence

  1380. of condemnation?

1381. Do you not realize what you deserve?

  1382. Here we are,

1383. in the final moments of our life,

1384. and instead of humbling your heart

  1385. and accepting the fact

1386. that you are a rebel,

  1387. you are condemned.

  1388. What are you doing?

1389. Do you not fear God?

1390. If you've been condemned by men,

1391. how much more will you be condemned by God?

1392. Second, he demonstrates and shows

  1393. his humility.

1394. He recognizes himself as a sinner.

1395. We see that in verse 41.

  1396. And we indeed justly,

1397. for we are receiving the due reward of our deeds.

1398. But this man has done nothing wrong.

1399. He recognized what he deserved.

1400. He recognized that he was receiving

  1401. and experiencing justice,

1402. condemnation because of his sin.

  1403. Three, he demonstrated

1404. the proper regard for Jesus.

  1405. In verse 42,

  1406. he says,

  1407. Jesus, remember me

1408. when you come into your kingdom.

  1409. Somehow,

  1410. this man

  1411. had eyes of faith

1412. and was able to see

  1413. that Jesus

  1414. was the only way.

  1415. Somehow,

  1416. he's able to recognize,

1417. and this is only by the power

  1418. of the Holy Spirit

1419. illuminating his heart and eyes

  1420. to see

1421. what most could not see.

  1422. To recognize

1423. that Jesus was this way,

  1424. this truth,

  1425. this life,

1426. and that only by trusting in Jesus

  1427. could he enjoy

  1428. the benefits of salvation.

  1429. And fourth,

  1430. fourth,

  1431. he demonstrates

  1432. remarkable faith.

  1433. Remarkable faith.

  1434. It's incredible.

  1435. He says,

  1436. Jesus,

  1437. remember me

  1438. when you come

  1439. into your kingdom.

  1440. Really?

  1441. Come into your kingdom?

  1442. He's gonna die

  1443. that day,

1444. just a couple of hours.

  1445. And somehow,

  1446. this criminal

  1447. has the faith

  1448. to know

  1449. that Jesus

  1450. will be resurrected.

  1451. He knows it.

  1452. Maybe he saw

  1453. the resurrection of Lazarus.

1454. Maybe he heard Jesus say

  1455. on the resurrection

  1456. and the life.

  1457. I don't know.

1458. But he had eyes of faith

  1459. to see

  1460. Jesus is the Christ.

  1461. Jesus is the king.

  1462. He's gonna establish

  1463. his kingdom.

1464. And will you remember me

  1465. when that happens?

1466. The same is true for you.

  1467. It must be true

  1468. for every true disciple.

1469. Have you come to a place

1470. of fearing and revering God?

  1471. Do you recognize

  1472. that he is holy?

  1473. That he is totally

  1474. other from you?

1475. And that because of your sin,

  1476. because of my sin,

  1477. we deserve judgment

  1478. and condemnation.

  1479. But only through

  1480. the forgiveness

  1481. of our Savior

  1482. and the death

1483. that he paid for us

  1484. on the cross

  1485. that we can enjoy

  1486. forgiveness

  1487. for sin.

1488. We come to a place

  1489. of faith

  1490. and recognizing

1491. that Jesus is the only way.

  1492. We can't trust

  1493. our own merit.

  1494. We can't trust

  1495. our own good things.

  1496. We can't trust

  1497. in other things

  1498. outside of Christ.

  1499. We can only trust

  1500. him for salvation.

  1501. Finally,

  1502. Jesus is triumphant

  1503. in accomplishing

  1504. God's plan of redemption.

  1505. He's triumphant

  1506. in accomplishing

  1507. God's plan of redemption.

  1508. Let me just read

  1509. these verses for us

  1510. and make a couple

  1511. of comments

  1512. to close.

  1513. It says,

  1514. it was now

  1515. about the sixth hour

  1516. and there was darkness

  1517. over the whole land

  1518. until the ninth hour.

  1519. While the sun's light

  1520. failed

  1521. and the curtain

  1522. of the temple

  1523. was torn in two,

  1524. then Jesus,

  1525. calling out

  1526. with a loud voice,

  1527. said,

  1528. Father,

  1529. into your hands

  1530. I commit my spirit.

  1531. And having said this,

  1532. he breathed his last.

  1533. When the centurion

1534. saw what had taken place,

  1535. he praised God,

  1536. saying,

  1537. certainly this man

  1538. was innocent.

  1539. And all the crowds

  1540. that had assembled

  1541. for this spectacle,

  1542. when they saw

  1543. what had taken place,

  1544. returned home,

  1545. beating their breasts

  1546. and all his acquaintances

  1547. and the women

  1548. who had followed him

  1549. from Galilee

  1550. stood at a distance

  1551. watching these things.

  1552. Of course,

  1553. there's a lot

  1554. for us to share,

  1555. but let me just

  1556. summarize this for us.

  1557. There is a three-hour

  1558. window here

  1559. between 12 noon

  1560. and 3 o'clock

  1561. in the afternoon.

1562. The time when the sun

  1563. is at its apex,

  1564. the brightest parts

  1565. of the day

  1566. in its darkness

  1567. over the land.

  1568. Now, it's not dark

  1569. because God

  1570. is not present.

  1571. It's dark

  1572. because God

  1573. is present

  1574. in his rage

  1575. against his son.

  1576. His wrath

  1577. is being poured out

  1578. on his son

  1579. in that moment.

  1580. He is present

  1581. in that event

  1582. of disciplining

  1583. the sin

  1584. that was laid

  1585. on his son.

  1586. But Jesus

  1587. will say

  1588. in this account

  1589. of Luke,

  1590. Father,

  1591. into your hands

  1592. I commit my spirit.

  1593. This is the final

  1594. phrase that Jesus

  1595. will say

  1596. during this time

  1597. on the cross.

  1598. It's preceded

  1599. by the statement

  1600. that he makes

  1601. in John 19,

    John 19:30

  1602. verse 30,

  1603. where he says

  1604. it is finished.

  1605. Meaning the work

  1606. of paying

  1607. for sin

  1608. on the cross

  1609. was accomplished.

  1610. It is finished.

  1611. And so now

  1612. Jesus can commit

  1613. his spirit

  1614. to God.

  1615. His faith

  1616. is demonstrated

  1617. in this statement.

  1618. He knows

  1619. that God

  1620. will see

  1621. the sacrifice

  1622. that he has paid

  1623. as one

  1624. that's acceptable.

  1625. One that is

  1626. sufficient

  1627. for us.

  1628. and we see

  1629. as kind of

  1630. a direct result

1631. of all of these events

  1632. we see the centurion.

  1633. A centurion,

  1634. perhaps the first

  1635. Gentile convert

  1636. as it were.

  1637. He comes to recognize

  1638. who Jesus really is.

  1639. Maybe he doesn't

  1640. understand

  1641. the full gravity

1642. of what has taken place

  1643. but he makes

  1644. this significant

  1645. statement

  1646. here at the cross.

  1647. Truly,

  1648. this man

  1649. was a son

  1650. of God.

1651. So what do we do?

  1652. What do we do

  1653. with this passage

  1654. and recognizing

  1655. the triumph

  1656. of our Savior

  1657. in accomplishing

  1658. and fulfilling

  1659. all that was necessary

  1660. to bring us

  1661. back to God?

  1662. Well, there's

  1663. a couple things.

  1664. The first is

  1665. do you know Jesus

  1666. this morning?

  1667. Have you come

  1668. to a place

  1669. of recognizing

  1670. your sin?

  1671. Come to a place

  1672. of understanding

  1673. who God is

  1674. and has it

  1675. created within you

  1676. a proper fear

  1677. of him?

  1678. A proper fear

  1679. that leads

  1680. to respect

  1681. and laying down

  1682. and coming to him

  1683. asking for forgiveness

  1684. demonstrating humility

  1685. repentance

  1686. and turning away

  1687. from your sin

  1688. and turning to God

  1689. and claiming

  1690. and making him

1691. the Lord of your life?

  1692. If you've not done

  1693. that this morning

  1694. and the Spirit

  1695. is stirring your heart

  1696. to say

  1697. I need to

  1698. understand more.

  1699. I know that

1700. I would love to share

1701. and there are many here

  1702. who would love

  1703. to share with you

  1704. how to have that

  1705. personal relationship

  1706. with Jesus.

  1707. And there are many

  1708. probably most

  1709. of this room perhaps

  1710. who have come

  1711. to a place

  1712. of entering in

  1713. and enjoying

  1714. the benefits

  1715. of the forgiveness

  1716. that Christ offered

  1717. here on the cross.

  1718. And the closing

  1719. encouragement

  1720. or challenge

  1721. I would like

  1722. to leave with you

  1723. is from Romans

    Romans 8:31

  1724. chapter 8

  1725. verses 31 and 32.

  1726. It says this

  1727. What then

  1728. shall we say

  1729. to these things?

1730. If God is for us

1731. who can be against us?

  1732. He who did not

  1733. spare his own son

  1734. but delivered him

  1735. up for us all

  1736. how shall he

  1737. not with him

  1738. also freely

  1739. give us

  1740. all things?

  1741. If God

  1742. has accomplished

  1743. and done

  1744. the greatest work

  1745. the best work

  1746. the hardest work

  1747. in overcoming

  1748. the debt of sin

  1749. for us

  1750. in inviting us

  1751. to enjoy

  1752. salvation

  1753. and the benefits

  1754. of forgiveness

  1755. if God has done

  1756. the greatest work

  1757. then everything else

  1758. is just so petty

  1759. and so small

  1760. all of these things

  1761. that we think

  1762. are so large

  1763. in our life

  1764. are so small

  1765. to Christ

  1766. do we trust him?

  1767. are we satisfied

  1768. with the fellowship

  1769. that we enjoy

  1770. with Christ

  1771. and like Christ

  1772. are we willing

  1773. to embrace

  1774. the will of God

  1775. for our life

  1776. whatever that means

  1777. whether it's good

  1778. or bad

  1779. the seasons of life

  1780. that you're in

  1781. is there a heart

  1782. that is open

  1783. and receptive

  1784. and willing

  1785. to see

  1786. that Jesus

  1787. is greater

  1788. than my things

  1789. greater than my

  1790. circumstances

  1791. because he created

  1792. within us

  1793. a satisfaction

  1794. a contentment

  1795. a willingness

  1796. to understand

  1797. that

  1798. that whatever

  1799. challenges are

  1800. in your way

  1801. are so small

  1802. to God

  1803. entrusting him

  1804. with those things

  1805. praying for him

  1806. to use those things

  1807. and asking for God

1808. to give us this heart

  1809. this heart

  1810. that we've seen

  1811. in Christ

  1812. this willingness

  1813. to entrust

  1814. all of these things

  1815. to God

  1816. and to trust him

  1817. regardless of what

  1818. those are

  1819. may God help us

  1820. may God help us

  1821. to walk

  1822. in the steps

  1823. of Christ

  1824. in joy

  1825. in benefit

  1826. from his triumph

  1827. Paul will say

  1828. later on

  1829. in Romans chapter 8

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  1830. he says

  1831. we are more

  1832. than conquerors

  1833. through him

  1834. who loved us

  1835. why is that possible

  1836. well because

  1837. of the victory

  1838. the triumph

  1839. that Jesus claimed

  1840. for us

  1841. on this day

  1842. let's pray

  1843. oh Lord

  1844. we thank you

  1845. thank you

  1846. for your son

  1847. Jesus

  1848. in this

  1849. triumphant

  1850. exit

  1851. from Jerusalem

  1852. and what he accomplished

  1853. for us

  1854. on the cross

  1855. and all that's

  1856. available to us

  1857. in Jesus

  1858. through faith

  1859. God I pray

  1860. that our lives

  1861. would demonstrate

  1862. not only a commitment

  1863. to you

  1864. because of what

  1865. you've done

  1866. for us

  1867. but that it would

  1868. show a life

  1869. that is steady

  1870. a life

  1871. that is secure

  1872. a life

  1873. that is settled

  1874. because we're able

  1875. to trust you

  1876. that you're over

  1877. all things

  1878. and I pray

  1879. that that would

  1880. be the reality

  1881. and the window

  1882. of our life

  1883. would show

  1884. our faith

  1885. in you

  1886. in that way

  1887. in Jesus name

  1888. amen

  1889. God bless you

  1890. have a great day
