  1. Father, we're so grateful for that truth.

  2. That while our sins may be many,

  3. ! Your grace is abundant.

  4. !

  5. For Cliff, for him sharing the word with us this morning,

  6. I pray that you would go before him and bless him,

  7. bless the ministry of the word as he presents it,

  8. and I pray that our hearts would be receptive,

  9. that your Holy Spirit would do its work in us,

  10. and help us not just to be hearers of the word,

  11. but to be doers of the word.

  12. We pray these things in Jesus' name. Amen.

  13. Well, good morning.

  14. It is great to be with you already.

  15. In Sunday school, it was great to be able to share

  16. a little bit about the ministry that God's called us to in England,

  17. and we do have, let me just mention,

  18. our prayer cards and some stickers on our table

  19. in the back of the foyer there,

  20. if you would like to pick one up.

  21. That would be great.

  22. If I could encourage you to turn to Ephesians chapter 6.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  23. Ephesians chapter 6.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  24. And I don't know if you normally do this or not,

  25. but we're going to read the scripture together.

  26. We're going to stand together.

  27. If there's a Bible in front of you,

  28. and you aren't sure where Ephesians is,

  29. I think it's on page 979 in the Bible.

  30. But if we'll stand together as I read

  31. from Ephesians chapter 6, verse 10.

    Ephesians 6:10

  32. Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

  33. Put on the whole armor of God,

  34. that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

  35. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood,

  36. but against the rulers, against the authorities,

  37. against the cosmic powers over this present darkness,

  38. against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

  39. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God,

  40. that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,

  41. and having done all, to stand firm.

  42. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth,

  43. and having put on the breastplate of righteousness,

  44. and as shoes for your feet,

  45. having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace.

  46. In all circumstances, take up the shield of faith,

  47. with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one,

  48. and take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit,

  49. which is the Word of God,

  50. praying at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication.

  51. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance,

  52. making supplication for all the saints,

  53. and also for me,

  54. that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly,

  55. to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,

  56. for which I am an ambassador in chains,

  57. that I may declare it boldly,

  58. as I ought to speak.

  59. Please have a seat.

  60. Well, I probably don't need to remind you of this,

  61. but if you haven't heard,

  62. our country is involved in a war,

  63. a war with Iran.

  64. You probably have seen that on the television,

  65. in the news.

  66. Maybe you've felt that as you went to the gas pump,

  67. although it's starting to come back down again.

  68. Reminders of the fact that there's a war happening.

  69. But if you're honest,

  70. you probably don't think about it that much.

  71. There aren't really that many visual and auditory reminders

  72. I'm imagining here in Columbus.

  73. I know when I talk to my mother-in-law up in Akron,

  74. it's like, you know,

  75. yeah, I see it on the TV,

  76. but that's pretty much about it.

  77. Where we live in the UK, in Swindon,

  78. we live just below a Air Force base,

  79. a U.S. Air Force base called Fairford,

  80. and it's a place where the planes fly in and out of

  81. going to the Middle East to the war.

  82. So we see bombers and things flying over.

  83. There's auditory reminders.

  84. You can hear the planes before you see them.

  85. You look up in the sky,

  86. and they fly right over our house

  87. as they head out and back.

  88. Every single day for the past couple months,

  89. you see the planes,

  90. and you're reminded there's a war happening.

  91. However, it still feels a little bit removed from us.

  92. It's not like being on the ground in Iran.

  93. We have some colleague who work in Kiev in Ukraine,

  94. and they speak about having to hide in the hallways

  95. and things as bombs are going off around them

  96. and buildings are being destroyed.

  97. It'd be a lot different living in the war zone,

  98. wouldn't it?

  99. You'd probably be reminded in a different way

  100. about the war that's happening around you.

  101. And as we think about this reality

  102. of what we read in Ephesians 6,

  103. we're reminded that there is a war that's happening.

  104. It's happening every single day.

  105. It's a war that is happening here in Columbus,

  106. here this morning at Maranatha Baptist Church.

  107. It's a war that maybe we forget about

  108. as we go about our daily life.

  109. Because this war doesn't get the same kind of news coverage

  110. as the war in Iran.

  111. It doesn't get any kind of press coverage.

  112. And we can't see it,

  113. even though we can see some of the effects

  114. of this war around us.

  115. And that's what Paul is reminding the Ephesians

  116. as he closes his letter

  117. that he has written to the church there in Ephesus.

  118. He wants to remind them of this reality of spiritual war

  119. that they are involved in.

  120. Now we're jumping right into the end of Ephesians.

  121. And so I know there's a lot that happens before in Ephesians.

  122. And I'm not going to share everything,

  123. but just a very quick overview

  124. that leads us up to this point.

  125. Because God has this glorious picture

  126. that Paul writes about,

  127. this plan for his people,

  128. the church in his world.

  129. God's plan for God's people in God's world.

  130. In chapter 1 of Ephesians,

  131. we are told that God has this plan

  132. to unite all things together

  133. in heaven and on earth in Christ.

  134. In chapter 2,

  135. we begin to see how that plan is being realized

  136. as people are brought into a relationship with God.

  137. He brings them from spiritual death

  138. to spiritual life.

  139. He makes them alive by grace through faith in Christ.

  140. It's an amazing reality.

  141. And we are made new creations in Christ.

  142. Individually.

  143. But that's not all that chapter 2 says.

  144. It also says that the Jews and the Gentiles

  145. are brought together

  146. into one new body,

  147. one new humanity.

  148. God's creating a new humanity

  149. that we know of as the church.

  150. And if you're here as a believer this morning,

  151. you're a part of that body.

  152. You're a part of that church.

  153. And in chapter 3,

  154. he goes on to tell us

  155. that God has this,

  156. he's displaying his manifold wisdom

  157. to the entire cosmos

  158. in the church.

  159. I wonder if you feel like that this morning

  160. as you sit here.

  161. This is a display of God's manifold wisdom.

  162. Right here.

  163. You look around the church.

  164. Isn't that a wonderful thing?

  165. And then in chapters 4 through 6,

  166. he begins to show us

  167. what that picture looks like

  168. as we live out our lives

  169. as Christians.

  170. Right?

  171. As we walk out our faith.

  172. Right?

  173. As we walk in love.

  174. As we walk in wisdom,

  175. in light,

  176. in unity,

  177. in purity,

  178. in wisdom.

  179. And then as he closes his letter,

  180. he talks about spiritual warfare.

  181. And in one sense,

  182. it might feel like he's kind of

  183. taking a left turn,

  184. but in another sense,

  185. this is so applicable

  186. to what he's been saying

  187. for the whole letter.

  188. Because I don't know about you,

  189. but sometimes it can feel

  190. really difficult in church.

  191. I don't know.

  192. Maybe Maranatha is different.

  193. But sometimes relationships

  194. can be difficult, right?

  195. Sometimes it can be hard

  196. to live out our faith

  197. and we struggle.

  198. Why is it so hard?

  199. Why is it so hard

  200. to live out the picture

  201. that Paul presents here

  202. in the book of Ephesians?

  203. Well, because we're under attack.

  204. There's a battle that's raging.

  205. And we are involved.

  206. We are at war.

  207. An unseen spiritual battle

  208. that's taking place.

  209. And we need to be equipped

  210. for the battle.

  211. So there are three things

  212. that we're going to think about

  213. from Ephesians 6 here.

  214. The first is

  215. that we must prepare

  216. for the spiritual battle.

  217. We must prepare

  218. for the spiritual battle.

  219. We see that in verses 10 through 12.

  220. Well, how is it that we're going

  221. to prepare for the battle?

  222. Well, first,

  223. it requires God's strength.

  224. See that in verse 10.

  225. Finally, be strong in the Lord

  226. and in the strength

  227. of His might.

  228. Do you notice

  229. the strength terms there?

  230. Strong and strength

  231. and might.

  232. Three terms there.

  233. He's building upon.

  234. He's trying to remind them.

  235. Finally,

  236. as we are engaged

  237. in this battle,

  238. the very first thing

  239. we need to understand

  240. is that we need God's strength.

  241. Why does He need

  242. to remind them of that?

  243. Well, because we are often prone

  244. to fight in our own strength,

  245. aren't we?

  246. Why?

  247. I've got this.

  248. I'm okay.

  249. This isn't going

  250. to be a problem.

  251. No, He says,

  252. you are not strong enough

  253. in and of yourself.

  254. But there is a strength

  255. that is available to you

  256. that will make you

  257. strong enough for the battle.

  258. It's the strength

  259. that comes from God.

  260. It's being strong

  261. in the strength

  262. of His might.

  263. It's a passive verb there

  264. when it says be strong.

  265. It could be translated

  266. to be made strong

  267. or to be strengthened.

  268. This is something God does

  269. in and through us

  270. by His Spirit.

  271. You see,

  272. this battle

  273. that we're engaged in,

  274. we're going to see

  275. is supernatural

  276. and so it requires

  277. supernatural strength.

  278. And that's why I think

  279. Paul prays the way he does

  280. in the book of Ephesians.

  281. In chapter 1,

  282. verses 19 and 20,

  283. Paul prays

  284. that they would know

  285. the immeasurable greatness

  286. of His power

  287. towards us who believe.

  288. And then he goes on

  289. to tell us

  290. what that power is like.

  291. What is that power like?

  292. It's the power

  293. that raised Jesus

  294. from the dead.

  295. I mean,

  296. that's some power.

  297. And he says,

  298. that's available to us.

  299. And so he prays

  300. that they would know

  301. that power.

  302. Why?

  303. Because they're going

  304. to be engaged

  305. in this battle

  306. and they need God's strength.

  307. In chapter 3,

  308. again,

  309. when he prays,

  310. he prays that God

  311. would grant them

  312. to be strengthened

  313. with power

  314. through His Spirit

  315. in their inner being.

  316. They're going to need

  317. that strengthening

  318. in order to live out

  319. what he's going to talk about

  320. in chapters 4, 5, and 6.

  321. This is going

  322. to be necessary.

  323. We need Christ's strength

  324. for this battle.

  325. But not only do we need

  326. His strength,

  327. we need His armor.

  328. And that's why he goes on

  329. to say,

  330. put on the whole armor

  331. of God

  332. that you may be able

  333. to stand against

  334. the schemes of the devil.

  335. The whole armor of God.

  336. Whose armor is it?

  337. God's armor.

  338. He provides the armor

  339. to us.

  340. And we are to put on

  341. the whole armor,

  342. not just parts of it.

  343. You know,

  344. this is probably

  345. a familiar passage

  346. to many of you.

  347. You've grown up in church.

  348. You Sunday school.

  349. It's like,

  350. oh yeah,

  351. I know there's

  352. the six pieces of armor,

  353. right?

  354. And you have the helmet

  355. and the sword

  356. and the shield.

  357. And it doesn't do

  358. so much good

  359. just to know about it,

  360. right?

  361. Paul doesn't say,

  362. know about the armor.

  363. He says,

  364. put on the armor,

  365. right?

  366. So it doesn't know good

  367. if it's just kind of

  368. sitting over there

  369. and I know it's there

  370. and it's great.

  371. No, I need to be,

  372. right?

  373. People who go

  374. onto the front line,

  375. they're like,

  376. well, I know I have

  377. some equipment

  378. that's back in the tent,

  379. but I'll just kind of

  380. leave it there.

  381. No, they're going

  382. to put it on.

  383. Why?

  384. So they're prepared

  385. for the battle.

  386. God has given us

  387. this armor

  388. so that we can be

  389. engaged in this battle.

  390. It's a metaphor

  391. that he's using.

  392. Again,

  393. he's not talking about

  394. physically putting on

  395. pieces of armor.

  396. When Josiah was younger,

  397. there was a VBS

  398. of the church

  399. that I grew up in.

  400. They were doing

  401. about spiritual warfare

  402. and we were the missionaries

  403. for the week

  404. and so we had to produce

  405. these videos

  406. and so we dressed him

  407. all up,

  408. you know,

  409. in the little plastic,

  410. you know,

  411. armor that you can get.

  412. That's not what

  413. we're talking about.

  414. It's a metaphor,

  415. right?

  416. Putting on,

  417. and Paul uses

  418. a different metaphor

  419. in Colossians,

  420. does he?

  421. In Colossians 3,

  422. put on the new self,

  423. the new man.

  424. It's synonymous,

  425. right?

  426. That's what he's

  427. talking about here.

  428. Being prepared

  429. for the battle

  430. means we need

  431. his armor.

  432. But we also need

  433. to know our enemy,

  434. don't we?

  435. When you're fighting

  436. in a battle,

  437. you need to know

  438. who the enemy is

  439. and so he wants us

  440. to know who the real

  441. enemy is in the next verse.

  442. For we do not wrestle,

  443. he tells us who the enemy

  444. is not,

  445. we do not wrestle

  446. against flesh and blood.

  447. So the enemy

  448. is not other people.

  449. The enemy

  450. is not other religions.

  451. The enemy

  452. is not other churches.

  453. The enemy

  454. is not people

  455. who don't know Jesus.

  456. No.

  457. The enemy

  458. is not human.

  459. Well,

  460. who is the enemy then?

  461. Well,

  462. the enemy

  463. is the rulers,

  464. authorities,

  465. cosmic powers

  466. over this present

  467. darkness,

  468. the spiritual forces

  469. of evil

  470. that are in

  471. the heavenly places.

  472. This is where

  473. the real battle

  474. is fought.

  475. It's a cosmic reality

  476. of spiritual forces,

  477. the devil

  478. and those who

  479. are aligned with him

  480. who are fighting

  481. against God

  482. and his people,

  483. seeking to disrupt

  484. God's kingdom.

  485. And they're fighting

  486. with all of their strength.

  487. Satan knows

  488. his time is short.

  489. That's what Revelation 12 says.

  490. He knows

  491. his time is short.

  492. And so one of Satan's

  493. strategies in this battle

  494. is to get us

  495. focused on the wrong enemy.

  496. We start fighting

  497. each other

  498. rather than fighting

  499. the real enemy,

  500. Satan,

  501. rather than taking

  502. our stand against him

  503. in the armor of God.

  504. So the battle

  505. is against the devil

  506. and his spiritual forces.

  507. So if we need

  508. to know our enemy,

  509. then it's important

  510. for us to make

  511. sure that we

  512. understand him well.

  513. Right?

  514. You could just imagine

  515. maybe a path

  516. and having ditches

  517. on either side.

  518. Right?

  519. There's a way

  520. in which we should

  521. understand who our enemy is,

  522. but there are some ditches

  523. we could fall into

  524. if we aren't careful.

  525. Two of the ditches

  526. on either side,

  527. we could underestimate

  528. our enemy

  529. or we could

  530. overestimate our enemy.

  531. I don't know

  532. which maybe you might

  533. have more of an issue with.

  534. Different people

  535. will have an issue

  536. with one or the other

  537. typically.

  538. For many people,

  539. they will underestimate

  540. the devil.

  541. If you underestimate

  542. the devil,

  543. you won't worry

  544. about putting on

  545. the armor.

  546. What do you need it for?

  547. He's not that strong.

  548. We don't need to

  549. really worry about him.

  550. Martin Lloyd-Jones,

  551. I think there will be

  552. a quote that comes up,

  553. says,

  554. I am certain that

  555. one of the main causes

  556. of the ill state

  557. of the church today

  558. is the fact that

  559. the devil is being

  560. forgotten.

  561. That was written

  562. over 50 years ago.

  563. That's still true today.

  564. The reality is

  565. that Satan is alive

  566. and active.

  567. He is limited.

  568. Okay?

  569. But we can't

  570. underestimate him.

  571. He is attacking us.

  572. He's like,

  573. we're told in 1 Peter,

  574. or 1 Peter,

  575. that he is like a lion

  576. who is seeking

  577. someone to devour.

  578. Does that sound like

  579. a friendly enemy?

  580. Does that sound like

  581. somebody we don't need

  582. to be worried about?

  583. I mean,

  584. I don't want to be

  585. in a cage with a lion.

  586. I'm going to be

  587. his lunch.

  588. And so we don't want

  589. to underestimate him

  590. on the one hand,

  591. but on the other hand,

  592. we don't want to

  593. overestimate him.

  594. And sometimes people

  595. do that.

  596. Oh, you know,

  597. we need to be afraid of him.

  598. Oh, he's got so much power.

  599. He's so much more powerful

  600. and all of this stuff

  601. that's happening in the world

  602. and, you know,

  603. witchcraft and new age stuff

  604. and, oh, it's,

  605. you know,

  606. and they're afraid.

  607. Well, if we're afraid,

  608. what are we going to do?

  609. We're going to run

  610. the other way,

  611. aren't we?

  612. Is that what Paul says?

  613. He says,

  614. take your stand.

  615. Be strong

  616. in the strength

  617. of his might

  618. and put on the full armor

  619. of God

  620. so he can stand

  621. against the schemes

  622. of the devil.

  623. And listen,

  624. we don't have to be afraid

  625. of our enemy

  626. because he's already defeated.

  627. That's the good news

  628. of the Bible.

  629. Yeah?

  630. The good news of Christianity

  631. is Jesus already defeated

  632. our enemy.

  633. It's already done.

  634. The battle has been won

  635. at the cross

  636. and through his resurrection.

  637. Jesus disarmed,

  638. we're told in Colossians

    Colossians 2:15

  639. chapter 2,

  640. verse 15,

  641. he disarmed the rulers

  642. and authorities

  643. and put them to open shame

  644. by triumphing over them

  645. in Jesus.

  646. That's what's happened.

  647. Now,

  648. just because the battle

  649. has been won

  650. doesn't mean that there

  651. still aren't battles

  652. taking place.

  653. It's kind of like

  654. World War II.

  655. Right?

  656. World War II

  657. pretty much was won

  658. on D-Day,

  659. June 6th,

  660. 1944.

  661. But the reality is

  662. that the war

  663. didn't stop

  664. on June 5th,

  665. did it?

  666. It continued

  667. for almost a whole

  668. another year

  669. before VE Day,

  670. May of the next year.

  671. And some of the fiercest

  672. fighting was in that

  673. last year.

  674. Some of the worst

  675. casualties happened

  676. in that last year.

  677. It's similar.

  678. The battle's been won,

  679. but there's still

  680. a battle taking place.

  681. The war has been won,

  682. but the battle's

  683. still taking place.

  684. But we should be

  685. encouraged.

  686. Jesus has won.

  687. And if you know Him,

  688. you're on the winning side.

  689. And you have everything

  690. necessary for the battle.

  691. So we need to prepare

  692. for this spiritual battle.

  693. Secondly,

  694. we must stand firm

  695. in God's armor.

  696. So we're to put on

  697. the armor of God

  698. and next He says

  699. that we're to stand firm.

  700. Verse 13,

  701. therefore,

  702. take up the whole armor

  703. of God,

  704. why that you may be

  705. able to withstand

  706. in the evil day

  707. and having done all

  708. to stand firm,

  709. stand therefore.

  710. So He had these

  711. strength terms

  712. in verse 10.

  713. Now He has stand terms,

  714. right?

  715. Take your stand,

  716. stand firm,

  717. stand therefore.

  718. Why?

  719. Well,

  720. because we need to take

  721. our defensive position

  722. against the enemy.

  723. It doesn't say

  724. attack the devil,

  725. does it?

  726. It says take your stand.

  727. It's primarily defensive

  728. and that's why

  729. when we look at

  730. the armor,

  731. it's primarily

  732. defensive as well.

  733. we're to hold

  734. ground that Jesus

  735. has already won.

  736. He won that ground.

  737. We're not to let

  738. the devil take back

  739. any of that ground

  740. or try to.

  741. He can't ultimately

  742. do that

  743. because He's already won.

  744. Jesus has already won.

  745. But He's going to fight

  746. with everything He has

  747. to disrupt

  748. God's work

  749. in this world,

  750. in churches,

  751. in families,

  752. in communities.

  753. When is He supposed to,

  754. or when are we supposed

  755. to take our stand?

  756. It says in the evil day.

  757. Do we live in the evil day?

  758. What do you think?

  759. Yes?

  760. No?

  761. I don't know.

  762. As I look around,

  763. it feels like that's the reality.

  764. We live in the evil day

  765. and we're told

  766. in the evil day

  767. to take our stand.

  768. Not in peacetime.

  769. You don't need to take

  770. your stand in peacetime.

  771. We are at war

  772. and we need to be ready

  773. for taking our stand.

  774. Paul is trying

  775. to emphasize

  776. a sense of urgency here

  777. as he piles up

  778. these standing words.

  779. He wants us

  780. to be ready

  781. with the armor of God.

  782. And then he goes on

  783. to share the pieces

  784. of the armor,

  785. which again,

  786. we're familiar with.

  787. I'm not going to spend

  788. a lot of time

  789. talking about each

  790. of the pieces of armor,

  791. but before we get

  792. to each of the pieces of armor,

  793. some people think,

  794. you know,

  795. Paul,

  796. he talks about being

  797. in chains, right?

  798. An ambassador in chains

  799. at the end of the passage,

  800. right?

  801. In prison,

  802. and maybe he's chained

  803. to a guard

  804. and he's looking at his armor

  805. and that's what,

  806. and that might be the case.

  807. I don't know.

  808. I'm not Paul.

  809. But I also wonder

  810. if he didn't have

  811. the book of Isaiah in mind

  812. because in Isaiah,

  813. there is a picture

  814. of a divine warrior.

  815. It's talking about Jesus,

  816. the Messiah,

  817. who fights in God's armor.

  818. And it uses even similar terms,

  819. breastplate and helmet

  820. and belt.

  821. I wonder if he had that in mind

  822. as he's writing these words

  823. because remember,

  824. it is the armor of God,

  825. God's armor

  826. that's given to us

  827. to fight in this battle.

  828. He's won that battle

  829. and now that armor

  830. is available to us as well

  831. as he fights for

  832. and saves his people

  833. we see in Isaiah

  834. and we're told

  835. to take up that same armor.

  836. So the first piece

  837. is the belt of truth.

  838. The belt of truth.

  839. In each of these pieces,

  840. there's a word associated

  841. with this one is truth.

  842. When we think about truth,

  843. right,

  844. we think of objective truth.

  845. The Bible is God's objective truth.

  846. It's his spoken word to us.

  847. This is true.

  848. We can trust it.

  849. We can stand upon it.

  850. God is faithful to his word.

  851. And that's really important.

  852. In a culture,

  853. I live in a culture

  854. where God's word

  855. is not valued.

  856. It's not seen

  857. as important.

  858. And unfortunately,

  859. sometimes in churches,

  860. that is the case.

  861. No,

  862. we need to make sure

  863. that we stand on the truth.

  864. But not just know the truth.

  865. I mean,

  866. that's important.

  867. We're called to live it out,

  868. right?

  869. So there's a reality

  870. of the objective truth,

  871. but the subjective reality

  872. of living out that truth

  873. as we are truthful,

  874. reliable,

  875. faithful people,

  876. as the truth works its way

  877. in and through

  878. our lives.

  879. Now,

  880. Satan seeks to undermine

  881. God's truth,

  882. doesn't he?

  883. He wants to distort God's word.

  884. He wants us to turn away

  885. from God's word.

  886. In John chapter 8,

    John 8:44

  887. verse 44,

  888. it says that this is a description

  889. of Satan.

  890. He was a murderer

  891. from the beginning.

  892. He does not stand

  893. in the truth.

  894. Why?

  895. Because there is no truth

  896. in him.

  897. When he lies,

  898. he speaks out of his own character

  899. for he's a liar

  900. and the father of lies.

  901. So Satan is the father of lies.

  902. He has no truth,

  903. but God is the God of truth.

  904. And Satan tries to fight

  905. against God's truth

  906. with his lies.

  907. He's been doing this

  908. ever since the beginning

  909. of the Bible.

  910. Just read your Bible,

  911. right?

  912. The very beginning,

  913. he lies to Adam and Eve,

  914. doesn't he?

  915. The serpent comes

  916. into the garden of Eden,

  917. and what does he say?

  918. Did God actually say

  919. that you can't eat

  920. of any of the trees

  921. in the garden?

  922. Did he actually say that?

  923. And what did Eve

  924. and Adam do?

  925. They believed the lie.

  926. Now let's not be too hard

  927. on them because

  928. every single person

  929. has believed the lie

  930. as well.

  931. Satan is fighting

  932. against God's truth

  933. with his lies.

  934. We need to have

  935. the belt of truth on.

  936. God's objective word,

  937. Jesus is the truth,

  938. the way,

  939. the truth,

  940. and the life.

  941. We need to have

  942. that belt fastened

  943. around us

  944. so that we can

  945. battle against

  946. the lies of the enemy.

  947. Second piece of armor

  948. is the breastplate

  949. of righteousness.

  950. Again,

  951. when we think

  952. of righteousness,

  953. we might be reminded

  954. of the righteousness

  955. of Jesus,

  956. his perfect

  957. sanctifying,

  958. his perfect

  959. justifying righteousness

  960. that we experience

  961. when we trust in Jesus.

  962. Not only are your sins

  963. forgiven,

  964. and that's a wonderful thing,

  965. when you trust in Jesus,

  966. your slate is wiped clean.

  967. All of your sin

  968. has been dealt with

  969. on the cross.

  970. Is that good news?

  971. Do you know that

  972. that's not the end

  973. of the story though?

  974. It's not like your bank,

  975. you know,

  976. balance goes from

  977. negative to zero.

  978. It goes infinite.

  979. Why?

  980. Because we are credited

  981. with the righteousness

  982. of Jesus.

  983. It's imputed,

  984. given to us.

  985. We stand in

  986. his righteousness.

  987. That's a wonderful truth

  988. so we can put on

  989. the breastplate of righteousness

  990. because we stand

  991. in the righteousness

  992. of Jesus.

  993. And that then leads

  994. to sanctifying righteousness.

  995. So then again,

  996. we are people

  997. who should be

  998. righteous in our character

  999. and our conduct

1000. and the way that we live.

  1001. We should be known

  1002. as righteous people.

  1003. Not perfect people,

  1004. but people who are

  1005. transformed by God's Spirit.

  1006. And that affects

  1007. the way we live

1008. and that should be noticed.

1009. We need to put on

  1010. that breastplate

  1011. of righteousness.

  1012. Why?

  1013. Well, because Satan

  1014. wants to accuse us.

  1015. Revelation chapter 12,

    Revelation 12:10

  1016. verse 10.

  1017. Satan is the accuser

  1018. of the brothers.

  1019. He accuses them

  1020. day and night

  1021. before God.

  1022. Did I say

  1023. he's a relentless enemy?

  1024. What is he doing?

  1025. Accusing us

  1026. day and night

  1027. before God.

  1028. There he is.

1029. You know about that cliff?

  1030. I mean,

1031. do you see what he did?

  1032. Oh,

1033. do you hear what he said?

  1034. Oh,

  1035. don't you remember?

  1036. And he's there

  1037. accusing

  1038. us before the Father.

  1039. But you know

1040. what the good news is?

  1041. Not only is there

  1042. an accuser,

  1043. the Bible says

  1044. there's an advocate.

  1045. 1 John,

  1046. 1 John chapter 2,

    1 John 2:1

  1047. verse 1.

  1048. We have an advocate

  1049. with the Father.

  1050. Who is the advocate?

1051. So Satan is our adversary,

1052. the one who is attacking us.

  1053. Who's our advocate?

  1054. It's Jesus Christ.

  1055. And do you notice

1056. what it says about him?

  1057. He's the righteous.

1058. Jesus is the righteous one.

  1059. And we stand

  1060. in his righteousness

  1061. as we are

  1062. in this battle.

  1063. We can stand

  1064. in the righteousness

  1065. of Jesus

  1066. because our salvation

  1067. is not dependent

1068. on what we have done

1069. but what Jesus has done.

  1070. That is foundational

  1071. to Christianity.

1072. If we get that wrong,

  1073. then we get

  1074. Christianity wrong.

  1075. It's not about

  1076. being a good person.

1077. So many people in England

  1078. think that that's

  1079. what Christianity

  1080. is all about.

  1081. Be a good person.

  1082. No.

  1083. It's about what

  1084. Jesus has done

  1085. because all of us

  1086. are not good people.

1087. All of us are sinners

  1088. in need of salvation.

1089. And God in his love

  1090. sent his son

1091. who came to this earth

1092. and lived a perfect life.

  1093. The only human being

  1094. ever to do that.

1095. And he went to the cross

  1096. and he paid

  1097. the penalty

  1098. for our sin.

  1099. He was buried

  1100. and he rose again

  1101. conquering Satan,

  1102. conquering death,

  1103. conquering sin.

  1104. He stands

  1105. as our victor,

  1106. our savior

1107. and we trust in him

  1108. and we stand

  1109. in his righteousness.

  1110. A third piece

  1111. is the shoes

  1112. of readiness

  1113. from the gospel

  1114. of peace.

  1115. The gospel

  1116. prepares us

  1117. for the battle.

  1118. It gives us

  1119. stability and security.

  1120. stability and security

  1121. comes from

  1122. the truths

  1123. of the gospel.

  1124. It is the gospel

  1125. of peace.

  1126. So in Romans 5.1

  1127. we're reminded

  1128. that we've been

  1129. justified by faith

  1130. and as a result

  1131. of that

  1132. we now have

  1133. peace

  1134. with God

  1135. through Jesus.

  1136. It's the gospel

  1137. good news

  1138. that says

  1139. we have peace

  1140. with God.

  1141. Again,

  1142. not because of

  1143. what we've done

  1144. but because of Jesus.

  1145. That's a beautiful thing.

  1146. That's what he's talking

  1147. about in chapter 2

  1148. when he says

  1149. that people have been

  1150. made alive

  1151. and they've now

  1152. been saved

  1153. by grace

  1154. through faith

  1155. in Jesus.

1156. And one of the results

1157. of that is we have peace.

  1158. We are no longer

  1159. at war with God.

  1160. We were before

  1161. but now we aren't.

  1162. And he enlists us

  1163. to be a part

  1164. of his army.

1165. What a joy it is

  1166. to serve

  1167. King Jesus.

  1168. But not only

  1169. do we have peace

  1170. vertically

  1171. we have peace

  1172. horizontally.

  1173. That's what chapter 2

  1174. also tells us.

  1175. We've been brought

  1176. together

  1177. into one new humanity.

  1178. We have brothers

  1179. and sisters

  1180. in Christ.

  1181. We're a part

  1182. of one family.

  1183. God's family

  1184. as his children.

  1185. And so

  1186. there's this reality

1187. of the gospel of peace

1188. but even as we think

  1189. about the shoes

1190. of the gospel of peace

  1191. I'm reminded

  1192. of the reality

  1193. of sharing

  1194. that good news.

  1195. Right?

1196. So not only do we stand

  1197. in that good news

  1198. and the truths

  1199. of the gospel

  1200. that we're justified

  1201. and we have peace

  1202. with God

1203. but we have that message

  1204. to share with people.

  1205. It's one of the

  1206. privileges we have

  1207. as Christians.

  1208. We get to share

  1209. the good news

  1210. of Jesus

  1211. with people.

  1212. It's wonderful.

  1213. It's difficult.

  1214. Satan fights against us

  1215. at every step

  1216. as we're seeking

  1217. to do that.

  1218. He's trying to distort

1219. the truth that we share

  1220. and blind people

  1221. Paul says

  1222. in 2 Corinthians.

  1223. But God is stronger

  1224. than that.

  1225. And so

1226. as I think about the shoes

  1227. I'm reminded

  1228. of Romans 10 15

  1229. where Paul quotes

  1230. from Isaiah

    Isaiah 52:7

  1231. chapter 52

  1232. verse 7

  1233. how beautiful

  1234. are the feet

  1235. of those

  1236. who preach

  1237. the good news.

  1238. How are people

  1239. going to hear?

  1240. Well some people

  1241. need to be sent

  1242. and those sent people

  1243. get to preach

  1244. the good news

  1245. and their feet

  1246. are beautiful.

  1247. We need to have

  1248. those shoes

  1249. on our feet

  1250. as we take

  1251. the good news

  1252. of Jesus

  1253. to the world.

  1254. Satan doesn't want us

  1255. to live as God's

  1256. reconciled people

  1257. and he doesn't

  1258. want us to take

  1259. the gospel

  1260. to those

  1261. who are trapped

  1262. in darkness

  1263. and yet it's part

  1264. of the battle

  1265. we're engaging.

  1266. The fourth

  1267. piece of armor

  1268. as we continue

  1269. to move on

  1270. is the shield

  1271. of faith.

  1272. As we think

  1273. of faith

  1274. think of trusting God.

  1275. I think it's one

  1276. of the easiest ways

  1277. to describe faith

  1278. is trusting in God.

  1279. We trust in him.

  1280. He is faithful.

  1281. We have confidence

  1282. about who he is

  1283. about what he says.

  1284. We have confidence

  1285. in the promises

  1286. that he has made

  1287. in his word.

  1288. We can stand firm

  1289. in those realities

  1290. and as we trust

  1291. in God

  1292. we're able

  1293. to deflect

  1294. the attacks

  1295. of the enemy.

  1296. He seeks

  1297. to attack

  1298. your faith

  1299. if you're a Christian.

  1300. I'm sure

  1301. if you've walked

  1302. with the Lord

  1303. for any length

  1304. of time

  1305. you will know

  1306. that there are attacks

  1307. that come your way.

  1308. There's temptation

  1309. to sin.

  1310. There's doubt

  1311. and guilt

  1312. and shame

  1313. that he seeks

  1314. to remind us of.

  1315. We can stand firm

  1316. in the reality

  1317. of God's truth

  1318. as we trust

  1319. in his word.

  1320. 1 Peter 5, 8, and 9

  1321. I mentioned this

  1322. alluded to it earlier

  1323. right?

  1324. The devil prowls around

  1325. like a roaring lion

  1326. seeking someone

  1327. to devour.

1328. What are we to do?

  1329. Resist him.

  1330. How?

  1331. Firm

  1332. in your faith

  1333. with the shield

  1334. of faith.

  1335. We resist the devil.

  1336. We resist his attacks

  1337. with the shield

  1338. of faith

  1339. so that we're prepared

  1340. for the battle.

1341. The next piece of armor

  1342. is the helmet

  1343. of salvation.

  1344. This reminds us

  1345. of the reality

  1346. that we are saved

  1347. by God's grace

  1348. but there's also

  1349. a sense in which

  1350. we understand

  1351. and know that

  1352. deep down

  1353. in our souls.

  1354. Why?

  1355. Because God

  1356. by his spirit

  1357. says to our spirit

  1358. it says in Romans

  1359. that we're children

  1360. of God.

  1361. And so not only

  1362. is it just like

  1363. oh yeah I know

  1364. the Bible says

  1365. that when I put

  1366. my trust in Jesus.

  1367. No, you experience

  1368. and feel

  1369. the reality

  1370. of being saved.

  1371. Of being rescued.

  1372. Of being brought

  1373. into God's family.

  1374. The helmet

  1375. of salvation.

  1376. God wants to

  1377. or sorry

  1378. Satan wants to attack

  1379. our assurance

  1380. of salvation.

  1381. Constantly.

  1382. And this is why

  1383. again

  1384. understanding the reality

  1385. of why

  1386. and how we're saved

  1387. is so important.

  1388. If we begin

  1389. to think

  1390. that our salvation

  1391. is dependent

  1392. in us

  1393. in any way

  1394. this is one

  1395. of those places

  1396. that Satan

  1397. will attack

  1398. and he'll get

  1399. in.

  1400. If we aren't

  1401. protected

  1402. we can know

  1403. that we're saved

  1404. if we're trusting

  1405. in Jesus

  1406. and his work.

  1407. The Bible

  1408. promises that

  1409. and we can

  1410. trust God's word.

  1411. And lastly

1412. the sword of the spirit

  1413. the word of God.

  1414. Again I've already

  1415. said Satan

  1416. wants us

  1417. to disbelieve.

  1418. He tends us

  1419. not to believe

  1420. God's word.

  1421. So he did it

  1422. in the garden

  1423. of Eden

  1424. and then he

  1425. repeated it

  1426. didn't he?

  1427. In the beginning

  1428. of the New Testament

  1429. just like he did

  1430. at the beginning

  1431. of the Old Testament

  1432. you have the beginning

  1433. of the New Testament

  1434. as Jesus comes

  1435. on the scene

  1436. and the spirit

  1437. leads Jesus

  1438. out into the wilderness

  1439. and what does

  1440. Satan do?

  1441. He comes

  1442. and he tempts him

  1443. three times

  1444. and Jesus

  1445. refutes those

  1446. temptations

  1447. every single time.

1448. How does he do that?

  1449. The word

  1450. of God.

  1451. Yeah.

  1452. Do you know

  1453. where he quotes from?

  1454. The book

  1455. that all of us

  1456. would go to

  1457. if we're being

  1458. tempted.

  1459. The book

  1460. of Deuteronomy

  1461. like you know

  1462. it like the back

  1463. of your hand.

  1464. It's just interesting

  1465. isn't it?

  1466. All three times

  1467. he quotes

  1468. from Deuteronomy.

  1469. I guess that's

  1470. an important book

  1471. to know.

  1472. And so the reality

  1473. is he battles

  1474. against Satan

  1475. even when Satan

  1476. tries to quote

  1477. scripture at him

  1478. from Psalm 91

  1479. he refutes

  1480. that he doesn't

  1481. take the bait

  1482. he stands

  1483. firm

  1484. in the midst

  1485. of those temptations

  1486. in a way

  1487. that Adam and Eve

  1488. haven't

  1489. and we haven't

  1490. either.

  1491. And we can

  1492. thank God

  1493. for that

  1494. and we can

  1495. seek to follow

  1496. his example.

  1497. That's why

  1498. knowing scripture

  1499. is so important.

  1500. I'm so thankful

  1501. in the church

  1502. that I grew up

  1503. in we had Awana

  1504. and I memorized

  1505. so many verses.

  1506. There are still

  1507. today verses

  1508. that I know

  1509. because of

  1510. that program.

  1511. I'm thankful

  1512. for that.

  1513. And that helps

  1514. me that equips

  1515. me for the

  1516. battle that

  1517. we're engaged

  1518. in.

  1519. So we need

  1520. to stand firm

  1521. in God's armor.

  1522. I wonder have

  1523. you been putting

  1524. on the whole

  1525. armor of God?

  1526. So prepare

  1527. for this

  1528. spiritual battle.

  1529. We must stand

  1530. firm in God's

  1531. armor.

  1532. And lastly

  1533. we must pray

  1534. and keep alert

  1535. verses 18

  1536. to 20.

  1537. We must pray

  1538. and keep

  1539. alert.

  1540. We need to

  1541. keep alert

  1542. because the

  1543. battle is imminent

  1544. and if we

  1545. aren't alert

  1546. we will miss

  1547. the dangers

  1548. around us.

  1549. We won't

  1550. see what's

  1551. happening and

  1552. we won't be

  1553. prepared for

  1554. the attacks

  1555. of the enemy.

  1556. I'm reminded

  1557. of Mark 14

    Mark 14:38

  1558. verse 38.

  1559. Watch and pray

  1560. that you may

  1561. not enter

  1562. into temptation.

  1563. The spirit

  1564. indeed is

  1565. willing but

  1566. the flesh

  1567. is weak.

  1568. I don't know

  1569. if you remember

  1570. where that was.

  1571. Again if you

  1572. know the story

  1573. of the gospels

  1574. well.

  1575. This is just

  1576. before Jesus

  1577. is going to

  1578. the cross.

  1579. He's going

  1580. to be praying

  1581. himself in

  1582. the garden

  1583. of Gethsemane.

  1584. And what

  1585. does he do?

  1586. He tells

  1587. his disciples

  1588. the three

  1589. disciples that

  1590. are there

  1591. watch and pray

  1592. that you might

  1593. not fall

  1594. into temptation.

  1595. There's a

  1596. battle raging.

  1597. You're not

  1598. aware of it.

  1599. You need

  1600. to be

  1601. prepared for

  1602. it.

  1603. How are

  1604. you going

  1605. to be

  1606. prepared for

  1607. it?

  1608. Watch and

  1609. pray.

  1610. The spirit

  1611. is willing

  1612. but the

  1613. flesh is

  1614. weak.

  1615. Isn't that

  1616. what you

  1617. see happen?

  1618. What do

  1619. they do?

  1620. They fall

  1621. asleep.

  1622. They're not

  1623. prepared for

  1624. the battle.

  1625. When Jesus

  1626. is arrested

  1627. they all

  1628. flee.

  1629. Peter denies

  1630. him three

  1631. times.

  1632. Yet Peter's

  1633. spirit I

  1634. think was

  1635. willing.

  1636. Right?

  1637. Because just

  1638. before that

  1639. Peter says

  1640. I will go

  1641. to my grave

  1642. with you.

  1643. I will die

  1644. with you.

  1645. His spirit

  1646. was indeed

  1647. willing.

  1648. His flesh

  1649. was weak.

  1650. So when the

  1651. battle raged

  1652. and the

  1653. temptation

  1654. came he

  1655. denied the

  1656. Lord three

  1657. times.

  1658. We need

  1659. to be

  1660. ready.

  1661. And prayer

  1662. is one of

  1663. the ways

  1664. that we

  1665. equip and

  1666. prepare

  1667. ourselves.

  1668. Our lack

  1669. of prayer

  1670. reveals our

  1671. lack of

  1672. dependence on

  1673. God.

  1674. I don't

  1675. know about

  1676. you but

  1677. prayer is

  1678. hard.

  1679. Okay?

  1680. I'm not

  1681. standing here

  1682. as like

  1683. I've got

  1684. this all

  1685. sorted out.

  1686. My prayer

  1687. life is

  1688. the best

  1689. prayer

  1690. life.

  1691. It's a

  1692. struggle.

  1693. It's a

  1694. battle.

  1695. It's hard

  1696. because it's

  1697. part of

  1698. this battle.

  1699. Satan

  1700. again doesn't

  1701. want us

  1702. to pray

  1703. because he

  1704. knows that

  1705. we need

  1706. God's

  1707. strength.

  1708. He knows

  1709. that we

  1710. need God's

  1711. armor.

  1712. And as

  1713. we put on

  1714. that armor

  1715. as we're

  1716. praying and

  1717. we're asking

  1718. for God's

  1719. help in this

  1720. battle.

  1721. God's

  1722. And so

  1723. he's trying

  1724. to get us

  1725. not to

  1726. pray.

  1727. Don't worry

  1728. about that.

  1729. I mean

  1730. nobody's

  1731. going to

  1732. know.

  1733. Nobody

  1734. sees that.

  1735. And yet

  1736. when I

  1737. don't pray

  1738. what I'm

  1739. saying is

  1740. God

  1741. actually I

  1742. don't

  1743. need

  1744. you.

  1745. I

  1746. got

  1747. this

  1748. sorted.

  1749. What

  1750. am I

  1751. doing?

  1752. I'm

  1753. standing

  1754. in my

  1755. own

  1756. strength.

  1757. What

  1758. has he

  1759. told us

  1760. right at

  1761. the

  1762. beginning?

  1763. Be

  1764. strong

  1765. in the

  1766. strength

  1767. of his

  1768. mind.

  1769. Not

  1770. in our

  1771. own

  1772. strength.

  1773. We

  1774. need

  1775. his

  1776. help.

  1777. And so

  1778. we

  1779. need

  1780. to

  1781. saturate

  1782. every

  1783. aspect

  1784. of this

  1785. battle

  1786. in

  1787. prayer.

  1788. And that's

  1789. why he

  1790. uses the

  1791. term

  1792. all in

  1793. the next

  1794. couple

  1795. verses.

  1796. When should

  1797. we pray?

  1798. At all

  1799. times.

  1800. How should

  1801. we pray?

  1802. With all

  1803. prayer and

  1804. supplication.

  1805. How should

  1806. we pray?

  1807. With all

  1808. perseverance.

  1809. Who should

  1810. we pray

  1811. for?

  1812. For all

  1813. the saints.

  1814. Four times

  1815. he uses

  1816. the term

  1817. all.

  1818. That's a

  1819. challenge

  1820. isn't it?

  1821. I mean

  1822. when I

  1823. think about

  1824. my life

  1825. I pray

  1826. at some

  1827. times

  1828. with some

  1829. prayer and

  1830. supplication

  1831. some

  1832. perseverance

  1833. for some

  1834. people

  1835. and I

  1836. imagine

  1837. you're

  1838. probably

  1839. similar.

  1840. And that's

  1841. okay.

  1842. I'm not

  1843. here to

  1844. beat you

  1845. up.

  1846. I'm here

  1847. to say

  1848. this is

  1849. so

  1850. important.

  1851. Let's

  1852. be people

  1853. who pray.

  1854. We are

  1855. so grateful

  1856. for people

  1857. who pray

  1858. for us.

  1859. Like I'm

  1860. telling you

  1861. that the

  1862. battle that

  1863. we are

  1864. engaged

  1865. in in

  1866. the UK

  1867. is not

  1868. any

  1869. different

  1870. than the

  1871. battle

  1872. here.

  1873. But we

  1874. are so

  1875. dependent

  1876. on the

  1877. prayers

  1878. of God's

  1879. people

  1880. for us.

  1881. Our

  1882. church is

  1883. dependent

  1884. on it.

  1885. I think

  1886. there's a

  1887. picture of

  1888. our

  1889. church

  1890. that's

  1891. going

  1892. to

  1893. come

  1894. up

  1895. next.

  1896. Please

  1897. be

  1898. praying

  1899. for

  1900. Pathway

  1901. Church,

  1902. for the

  1903. believers

  1904. there

  1905. who are

  1906. engaged

  1907. in

  1908. this

  1909. battle.

  1910. Pray

  1911. because

  1912. Satan

  1913. is

  1914. not

  1915. happy

  1916. that

  1917. a

  1918. church

  1919. is

  1920. being

  1921. established

  1922. in

  1923. this

  1924. community.

  1925. That

  1926. people

  1927. are

  1928. being

  1929. rescued

  1930. from

  1931. darkness

  1932. and

  1933. brought

  1934. into

  1935. God's

  1936. kingdom.

  1937. They

  1938. are

  1939. not

  1940. happy

  1941. about

  1942. that.

  1943. And so

  1944. he's

  1945. fighting.

  1946. Please

  1947. be praying

  1948. !

  1949. Please

  1950. be praying

  1951. for us

  1952. as well.

  1953. And I

  1954. can say

  1955. that because

  1956. that's

  1957. what Paul

  1958. goes on

  1959. to do.

  1960. He says

  1961. pray for

  1962. me.

  1963. What does

  1964. he pray

  1965. for?

  1966. For

  1967. clarity

  1968. and courage.

  1969. That words

  1970. may be

  1971. given to

  1972. him to

  1973. proclaim

  1974. the mystery

  1975. of the

  1976. gospel.

  1977. And that

  1978. he may

  1979. open

  1980. his mouth

  1981. boldly

  1982. to declare

  1983. it

  1984. boldly.

  1985. Please

  1986. pray that

  1987. for us

  1988. as we

  1989. share the

  1990. good news

  1991. of Jesus

  1992. that we

  1993. would be

  1994. clear,

  1995. that we

  1996. would be

  1997. bold.

  1998. And I

  1999. pray that

  2000. for you

  2001. as well.

  2002. That you

  2003. will be a

  2004. church who

  2005. clearly

  2006. presents

  2007. God's

  2008. word and

  2009. who

  2010. boldly

  2011. proclaims

  2012. that in

  2013. your

  2014. community.

  2015. It's

  2016. great to

  2017. see all

  2018. the kids

  2019. up here

  2020. to hear

  2021. about the

  2022. week of

  2023. football

  2024. camp,

  2025. soccer

  2026. camp,

  2027. we call

  2028. it

  2029. football.

  2030. The

  2031. World

  2032. Cup is

  2033. great,

  2034. you know,

  2035. great timing.

  2036. And

  2037. yeah,

  2038. so I

  2039. think our

  2040. prayer card

  2041. picture might

  2042. be on there

  2043. as well.

  2044. Again,

  2045. we have

  2046. those on

  2047. our

  2048. table.

  2049. Please

  2050. pick

  2051. those up.

  2052. And I

  2053. just want

  2054. to end

  2055. with this.

  2056. Your

  2057. prayers

  2058. matter.

  2059. It's

  2060. really

  2061. important.

  2062. I hope

  2063. you understand

  2064. that.

  2065. Please

  2066. don't think

  2067. prayer is

  2068. just an

  2069. add-on or

  2070. something that

  2071. missionaries are

  2072. told to

  2073. say.

  2074. We are

  2075. dependent on

  2076. your

  2077. prayers.

  2078. I know

  2079. there's

  2080. somebody in

  2081. the church

  2082. here that

  2083. regularly

  2084. communicates,

  2085. lets me know

  2086. that they're

  2087. praying for

  2088. me.

  2089. And that's

  2090. a real

  2091. encouragement

  2092. to me,

  2093. to get

  2094. those emails

  2095. each month,

  2096. just to

  2097. remind me that

  2098. there are

  2099. people praying

  2100. for us as

  2101. we're engaged

  2102. in this

  2103. spiritual

  2104. battle.

  2105. Satan,

  2106. our enemy,

  2107. is seeking to

  2108. steal,

  2109. kill,

  2110. and destroy,

  2111. to undermine

  2112. our Christian

  2113. walk in the

  2114. witness of the

  2115. church.

  2116. And so it's

  2117. not surprising

  2118. that church

  2119. planting is

  2120. hard,

  2121. that missions

  2122. is hard,

  2123. that church

  2124. is hard,

  2125. that evangelism

  2126. is hard,

  2127. because we're

  2128. in a spiritual

  2129. battle.

  2130. But Jesus

  2131. has won.

  2132. We stand

  2133. in his

  2134. victory.

  2135. And he's

  2136. given us

  2137. everything to be

  2138. effective in

  2139. this battle.

  2140. let's pray.

  2141. Father,

  2142. we thank you

  2143. for your

  2144. goodness to

  2145. us.

  2146. We thank you

  2147. for Jesus.

  2148. We thank you

  2149. that in your

  2150. love you sent

  2151. him,

  2152. and that he,

  2153. as the divine

  2154. warrior,

  2155. won the battle

  2156. for us as he

  2157. went to the

  2158. cross and

  2159. rose from the

  2160. dead.

  2161. God,

  2162. we glory in

  2163. him this

  2164. morning.

  2165. I pray if

  2166. there's anybody

  2167. here who doesn't

  2168. know him yet,

  2169. God,

  2170. would you

  2171. in your

  2172. grace and

  2173. goodness open

  2174. their eyes to

  2175. see the

  2176. reality of

  2177. your love

  2178. for them

  2179. and what

  2180. you have

  2181. done so

  2182. that they

  2183. can have a

  2184. relationship

  2185. with you.

  2186. And for

  2187. those who

  2188. do know

  2189. you,

  2190. please help

  2191. us to be

  2192. prepared for

  2193. this battle.

  2194. As we stand

  2195. in your

  2196. strength,

  2197. as we put

  2198. on your

  2199. armor,

  2200. please help

  2201. us to do

  2202. that and

  2203. help us to

  2204. be people

  2205. of prayer.

  2206. But ultimately

  2207. we know

  2208. that we're on

  2209. the winning

  2210. side.

  2211. we glory

  2212. in that

  2213. reality and

  2214. we give

  2215. you praise

  2216. and honor

  2217. this morning.

  2218. We pray

  2219. these things

  2220. in Jesus'

  2221. name.

  2222. Amen.
