  1. Now turn with me in your Bibles to 1st Thessalonians chapter 4.

  2. First Thessalonians chapter 4. I want to read again from verse

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  3. 13 right down to chapter 5, verse 8.

  4. Let's hear the Word of God reading of course from the King

  5. James Bible for those online. The words will come up on the

  6. screen. First Thessalonians chapter 4.

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  7. We're reading from verse 13. But I would not have you to be

  8. ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep that you

  9. sorrow not even as others which have no hope for.

  10. If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, Even so them

  11. also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with them.

  12. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which

  13. are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not

  14. prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord Himself shall

  15. descend from heaven with a shout with the voice of the Archangel,

  16. and with the trump of God. And the dead in Christ shall

  17. rise first. Then we which are alive and

  18. remain shall be caught up together with them in the

  19. clouds, to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be

  20. with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another

  21. with these words. But of the times and the

  22. seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you, for

  23. yourselves. Know perfectly that the day of

  24. the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

  25. For when they shall see peace and safety, then sudden

  26. destruction cometh upon them as travail upon a woman with child.

  27. They shall not escape. But ye, brethren, are not in

  28. darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

  29. Ye are all the children of light and the children of the day.

  30. We are not of the night nor of darkness.

  31. Therefore let us not sleep as do others, but let us watch and be

  32. sober. For they that sleep, sleep in

  33. the night, and they that be drunken or drunken in the night.

  34. But let us who are of the day be sober, putting on the breast St

  35. of faith and love, and foreign helmet the hope of salvation.

  36. Amen will end the reading their first eight, and we pray God

  37. will stamp with his own approval and blessing this reading of the

  38. Holy Scripture. Now this morning we are

  39. returning to our ex Suppository studies in the book of First

  40. Thessalonians. And for a few weeks we've been

  41. looking at First Thessalonians chapter 4, verses 13 to 18, and

    1 Thessalonians 4:13–18

  42. I have been setting forth different themes.

  43. We've looked at the theme of comfort for those who are

  44. grieving, and we've looked at the theme then last week of

  45. truths connected to the coming of the Lord Jesus.

  46. Now today, my text is found in the verse 17.

  47. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up

  48. together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and

  49. so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  50. And I've entitled my subject today the rapture and the return

  51. of Jesus Christ to this earth in power and glory, the last Lord's

  52. Day. I set forth 4 truths about the

  53. coming of the Lord. One, the promise of His coming

  54. as factual. We talked about the certainty

  55. and the comfort of that promise. Secondly, we looked at the

  56. particulars of His coming that are foundational, namely the

  57. truth about redemption, the truth about His resurrection,

  58. and the truth of His reappearance, especially from

  59. the words of verse 14 and the words 15.

  60. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, Even so

  61. them also would sleep in. Jesus will God bring with him.

  62. For this we say unto you, by the word of the Lord, that we which

  63. are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord, shall not

  64. prevent them which are asleep. Remember, if Christ has risen

  65. from the dead, then his people, even though those who sleep in

  66. Christ, will God bring with. I told you this is a great

  67. truth, a truth that has gripped the New Testament church from

  68. the beginning. And that truth is about the

  69. bodily resurrection of the dead in Christ.

  70. At his return, the dead will not be forgotten.

  71. That was the argument that the Thessalonians had.

  72. They're not going to be disadvantaged.

  73. They'll not be lost. Their resurrection is first in

  74. order. And after the resurrection of

  75. the glorious dead, we read then verse 17.

  76. Then we which are alive and remain unto thee, then we which

  77. are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in

  78. the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be

  79. with the Lord. I think of the picture here.

  80. Jesus Christ returns. Then there is a resurrection of

  81. the righteous dead. Then the righteous Saints still

  82. alive, and the earth and their bodies are caught up to meet the

  83. Lord in the air with the righteous dead.

  84. And then Christ will usher in His righteous reign.

  85. Notice 18 how it closes. Wherefore comfort one another

  86. with these words. And as we close last Lord's day,

  87. we thought about the purpose of His coming.

  88. That is fruitful. It brings comfort to the

  89. grieving. There's a call for holy living,

  90. and we'll see that next week. And also there's a believing

  91. concern for the glory of God. Now today I want to add to those

  92. 4 truths about the coming of the Lord another truth that I

  93. deliberately left off, namely the truth about the rapture and

  94. the return of Jesus Christ in power and glory.

  95. So that's what we're thinking about tonight or today.

  96. First Thessalonians chapter 4, verse 17 and the rapture and the

    1 Thessalonians 4:17

  97. return of Jesus Christ. Now three things about the

  98. rapture. The rapture is a scriptural

  99. event. You've got to think about the

  100. Scriptures and the rapture and the return of Christ.

  101. You see, recently I was asked, do you believe in the rapture of

  102. the church? This was my answer.

  103. Yes, I do. Now.

  104. The person that asked was very surprised and they said, oh, I

  105. thought that Free Presbyterian ministers didn't believe in the

  106. rapture. And I said to them, well, I do,

  107. it's a scriptural event. And I turned into this text of

  108. Scripture, First Thessalonians 4 and 17.

  109. And I pointed to the person who'd asked the words, caught up

  110. together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

  111. And I said to the individual, First Thessalonians chapter 4,

    1 Thessalonians 4:17

  112. verse 17 teaches the rapture of the church.

  113. Now listen to this at the return of Jesus Christ.

  114. Now one of the chief concerns for many Christians is what do

  115. these words mean? What do you think they mean?

  116. What have you heard that they mean?

  117. Let me try to answer this negatively.

  118. Let me tell you what it doesn't mean.

  119. There are those who teach in the evangelical world to this day

  120. that there's two separate future comings of Christ, and those two

  121. future separate comings of Christ are divided by a

  122. seven-year period. Now, I do not believe in two

  123. separate future comings of Christ divided by a seven-year

  124. period. I do not believe that.

  125. Why? Because the Bible doesn't teach

  126. that. The Bible doesn't teach 2

  127. separate future comings of Christ divided by 7 years.

  128. So I want to be clear in that, and I want you to be clear.

  129. And I tried to press this home to the person that asked me

  130. about the rapture. The Bible doesn't teach 2 future

  131. comings of the Lord Jesus. 1 secret, one silent, although

  132. significant. And then seven years later

  133. there's the actual visible return of Christ to the earth.

  134. You see, here's the argument of those that hold to that view.

  135. There are verses that mention the coming of the Lord.

  136. You can see that First Thessalonians chapter 4 verse 15

    1 Thessalonians 4:15

  137. does not mention. For this we say unto you, by the

  138. word of the Lord, that we which are alive remain unto the coming

  139. of the Lord, shall not prevent them which are asleep.

  140. The word coming is the Greek word Perusia, 1st Thessalonians

  141. 415 All unto the coming of the Lord.

  142. And here's the argument. The rest of the verses in the

  143. Bible that mention the coming of the Lord has to do with a

  144. silent, secret but significant coming of the Lord to the heir.

  145. The word for coming in every reference has nothing to do with

  146. Christ's coming in future judgement, that there are other

  147. New Testament words to signify his arrival to meet out

  148. judgement, and those words are appearing and those words in

  149. Revelation. Now the question for us this

  150. morning is this, What does the Bible teach?

  151. Does the Bible teach one word that talks about the coming of

  152. the Lord, a coming for its people, dead or alive, a coming

  153. that's significant but silent and secret, and then seven years

  154. later returned visibly in judgement to deal with the rest

  155. of humanity. There's some people teach that

  156. and they use the word coming, a silent secret coming, and then

  157. they use the word appearing and revelation to teach that he

  158. appears seven years later after his silent secret coming to deal

  159. firmly with the ungodly. Now I hope I've explained that

  160. I'm not a good explainer, especially when it's something

  161. complex for us. We have to ask the question, is

  162. this scriptural? Is this what the Bible teaches?

  163. Now, I don't want the system. I'm not interested in a system,

  164. whether it's taught by JN Darby or Mr Schofield.

  165. I want to know what the Scripture says.

  166. So for us, the question is, this is a Scripture.

  167. Now I want to tell you this morning that that theory, as I

  168. have explained it negatively, doesn't stand up to the

  169. Scriptures. It's not what the Bible teaches.

  170. And when you examine the three primary Greek words that are

  171. used to describe Christ's return, they are never separated

  172. into different phases. Now, beloved, listen to me

  173. carefully. This is not an argument for the

  174. sake of having an argument. This is not taking a sweep at

  175. those who hold to dispensational theology.

  176. This is about being true to the Scriptures.

  177. Here's a simple question that the dispensations have the

  178. answer Does the Bible teach 2 future comings, 1 secret, one

  179. silent although significant, and then seven years later return to

  180. the earth and power and glory? You have to answer that, Or does

  181. it teach which? This is what I believe now,

  182. connection with the rapture, one singular climatic visible return

  183. when dead Saints are raised and the living Saints simultaneously

  184. are caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord

  185. in the air. And as the Bible says, and so

  186. shall we ever be with the Lord. Now I'm attempting to answer

  187. this from Scripture. So if anybody asks you, do you

  188. believe in the rapture, here's the answer.

  189. Yes, I do. Why?

  190. Because it's a scriptural event and it happens singularly and

  191. climatically at the return of Christ.

  192. That's the first thing. The second thing is this.

  193. It's not only a scriptural event, it's a singular event.

  194. We could going to spend a little time now thinking about the

  195. singularity of the rapture and at the return of Christ and

  196. here's the evidence. So you're going to have to do

  197. some turning of the pages of the Bible.

  198. Listen to this. The Greek words do not support 2

  199. comments. There's the first line of

  200. evidence. There's the first argument, the

  201. three Greek words Perusia translated coming first

  202. Thessalonians 415. It literally means presence

  203. after arrival. The coming is used for the royal

  204. visit of a king, and the Bible doesn't divide the word Perusia.

  205. When the king arrives, his presence was public.

  206. His presence was proclaimed. Long live the king.

  207. You could hear the shout. You could hear the trumpet being

  208. blasted. His presence was visible.

  209. His presence was authoritative. The news was the king has

  210. arrived. Turn over there to Matthew

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  211. chapter 24. Look at this verse of Scripture.

  212. Now, I would encourage you to listen to this again.

  213. I would encourage you to underline these verses.

  214. Matthew chapter 24, verse 27. Now we're going to take our

    Matthew 24:27

  215. time. So you find the place.

  216. It'll come up and screen for those online.

  217. For as the lightning cometh out of the east and shineth even

  218. unto the West, so shall also the coming of the Son of Man be.

  219. Now the word coming, there's Perusia.

  220. Now let me point out, lightning is not secret, it's seen.

  221. Lightning is usually not silent, but is accompanied with

  222. thunderous noise. The lightning splits the sky.

  223. The lightning is not hidden. For as the lightning cometh out

  224. of the east, and shineth even unto the West, so shall also the

  225. coming, the Perusia of the Son of Man, be.

  226. Now the same word is used, and we'll keep that in mind.

  227. We'll come back to that passage of Scripture a little later in

  228. First Corinthians chapter 15 and verse 23. 1st Corinthians 15

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  229. verse 23. It says in First Corinthians 15,

    1 Corinthians 15:22

  230. verse 22 for the context. For as in Adam all die, Even so

  231. in Christ shall all be made alive.

  232. Notice verse 23 now, but every man in his own order, Christ the

  233. first fruits that's connected to the first fruits of the harvest,

  234. Christ in his resurrection glory afterwards, they that are

  235. Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he

  236. shall have delivered up the Kingdom to God, even the Father,

  237. when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and

  238. power. I put it to you, when does the

  239. resurrection happen? It happens at His coming and

  240. they that are Christ at His coming.

  241. And if the resurrection happens at His coming and the coming, as

  242. we're going to see is after the tribulation of those days, as

  243. Matthew chapter 2427 to 31 teaches, then there cannot be

  244. two separate events connected to His coming.

  245. There's one singular coming. The same word is used in First

    1 Thessalonians 3 chapter mention

  246. Thessalonians chapter 3 and verse 13.

  247. It says to the end, He may establish your hearts in blame,

  248. in blamelessness and in holiness before God, even our Father at

  249. the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his Saints.

  250. Notice that with all his Saints at the coming, the Perusia, it's

  251. the same word. Or we could turn over there to

  252. 2nd Thessalonians chapter 3, and in the verse 8, Second

    2 Thessalonians 3 chapter mention

  253. Thessalonians chapter 3, and in the verse, sorry, Second

    2 Thessalonians 2:8

  254. Thessalonians chapter 2, verse 8.

  255. And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall

  256. consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with

  257. the brightness of His coming. See, it's all one singular

  258. event. So I'm putting it to you.

  259. The Greek word perusia does not support 2 comings.

  260. Here's a second word, and I have to be very quick.

  261. The word appearing, if you turn over there to Second Timothy

    2 Timothy 2 chapter mention

  262. chapter 2, and in the verse 8, Second Timothy, sorry, Second

    2 Timothy 4:8

  263. Timothy chapter 4 verse 8, it says, Henceforth there's laid up

  264. for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous

  265. judge shall give me at that day, and not to me only, but unto all

  266. them also that love His appearing.

  267. Now the word appearing there is the word.

  268. The Greek word epiphania, and it means it's shining forth, it

  269. means something that's visible. It's a visible manifestation, A

  270. blazing revelation. And it's from which we get the

  271. English word epiphany, and it describes something revealed,

  272. something that's been revealed and bursting forth visibly.

  273. And it's a good Bible word and it describes the return of Jesus

  274. Christ. That's exactly what Paul is

  275. saying here. Paul's talking about his death,

  276. and he's saying here something really wonderful.

  277. Henceforth there's laid up for me a crown of righteousness,

  278. because of His faithfulness to the blood in the book which the

  279. Lord, the righteous judge shall give me at that day, what day,

  280. the day of His return, and not to me only, but unto all them

  281. also that love His appearing. If you go back there to 2nd

  282. Thessalonians chapter 2 and verse 8, we read.

  283. And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall

  284. consume with the spurt of His mouth, and destroy with the

  285. brightness of His coming. Notice these words, the

  286. brightness of His coming. See, Paul, under the inspiration

  287. of the Holy Spirit, combines the two terms, Perusia and

  288. Epiphania. The word brightness is the Greek

  289. word Epiphania, and it could literally read the appearing of

  290. His coming. Brightness means appearing.

  291. Appearing means brightness is from the word Epiphania.

  292. And here's Epiphania and part of Perusia coming together to the

  293. same event. No gaps, No2 phases.

  294. The 2 words are used together interchangeably.

  295. The appearing and the coming not as two separate events, but two

  296. descriptions of the same event. See, the Bible never speaks of a

  297. silent secret Perusia followed by a later appearing.

  298. They are singular. They are the same.

  299. Go back there to 2nd Thessalonians chapter 1 and

  300. verse 7. Second Thessalonians chapter 1

    2 Thessalonians 1 chapter mention

  301. and in the verse 7, it says unto you who are troubled, rest with

  302. us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his

  303. mighty angels. She that word revealed.

  304. It's another Greek word, apocalyptus, and it means

  305. revelation. Paul writes when the Lord Jesus

  306. shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels.

  307. I put it to you, that's a public unveiling.

  308. That's a proclaimed unveiling. You see, Paul is using these 3

  309. words interchangeably. The appearing is the coming.

  310. The revelation is the coming. The coming is visible, it's not

  311. hidden. That's the Greek words very

  312. quickly. And secondly, the order of

  313. events in Matthew 24. Let's go back to Matthew chapter

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  314. 24 and we'll read a wee bit there.

  315. Matthew chapter 24. I've already read verse 27, but

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  316. we'll read it again. For as the lightning cometh out

  317. of the east, and shineth even unto the West, so shall also the

  318. coming of the Son of Man be. For wheresoever the carcass is,

  319. there will the eagles be gathered together.

  320. I believe that has to do with the valley of Megiddo, the day

  321. of Armageddon. Look at verse 29.

  322. Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall

  323. the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light,

  324. and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the

  325. heavens shall be shaken. Then shall appear the sign of

  326. the Son of Man in heaven, and then shall all the tribes of the

  327. earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming.

  328. That's the same word, Perusia in the clouds of heaven.

  329. And how does He come? With power and glory.

  330. And then look at verse 31. And then shall he send his

  331. angels with a great shout sound of a trumpet, and they shall

  332. gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of

  333. heaven to the other. Now do you see that noted

  334. carefully? You've got the tribulation here

  335. immediately after the tribulation of those days, and

  336. then you've cosmic signs in the heavens, and then you have the

  337. visible coming, the same Lord Jesus out of heaven.

  338. And then when He comes, the angels gather his elect from one

  339. end to the other, accompanied with the great sound of a

  340. trumpet. And when I compare that passage

  341. of Scripture with First Thessalonians chapter 4 that we

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  342. have been studying, that I've read to you quite a number of

  343. times. For this we say unto you by the

  344. word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the

  345. coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.

  346. For the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a

  347. shout. But the voice of the Archangel

  348. with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first.

  349. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up

  350. together with the middle clouds to meet the Lord of the air, and

  351. so shall we ever be with the Lord.

  352. You see in that passage you've got to shout.

  353. The King is coming accompany with the voice of the Archangel.

  354. Then there's the sound of the trumpet, Then there's the

  355. descent of Christ, and there's the resurrection of the glorious

  356. dead. And then we which are alive,

  357. we're we're, we're, we're changed.

  358. We, we accompany them and we are are caught up together with them

  359. to meet the, the, the Lord in the air.

  360. It's the same elements. It's the very same sequence.

  361. The gathering of the elect in Matthew chapter 24 matches the

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  362. catching up in First Thessalonians chapter 4.

    1 Thessalonians 4 chapter mention

  363. There's not any textual evidence for any different event.

  364. See, I believe the rapture happens at the coming of Christ.

  365. That's why I believe in the rapture, and the timing's

  366. important, not at the beginning, but at the end, after the

  367. tribulation of those days. Let me explain something very

  368. quickly for a time has gone. You see the word there in

  369. Thessalonians in verse 17. First Thessalonians chapter 4,

    1 Thessalonians 4:17

  370. verse 17. Notice these words.

  371. The word caught up. That is the Greek word.

  372. Hard pass, Harpas. And it literally means to cease

  373. suddenly, to snatch away, to take by force, to carry off

  374. powerfully. And it was used to Philip in

  375. Acts 8 and 39. The Spirit of God caught away

  376. Philip. It's a design, A divine

  377. irresistible action, a supernatural action that's very

  378. significant. They they put it all together.

  379. The Lord descends, there's a shout, the voice of the

  380. Archangel, the trump of God. And we read that the dead in

  381. Christ rise first in which we were alive and remain, are are

  382. caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in

  383. the air. It's nothing silent here,

  384. nothing secret here. The Lord is seen, The Lord comes

  385. visibly, the Lord comes bodily. The the shout is heard word, the

  386. trumpet that sounds is victorious.

  387. The graves are open. This is cosmic.

  388. This is significant. The church rises to meet the

  389. king. Notice the words in 17 to meet

  390. the Lord in the air. The the word meet is upentius.

  391. The word is used in the ancient world for a delegation that went

  392. out to meet the visiting king and then escort the king back to

  393. the city in triumph. The same word appears.

  394. See, we have to be fair to scripture.

  395. The the same word appears Matthew 25 verse 6.

    Matthew 25:6

  396. The virgins go out to meet the bridegroom.

  397. Well, they don't go off with the bridegroom to some other place.

  398. No, they they return with the bridegroom to the house where

  399. the marriage has taken place. And same happened in Acts 28,

    Acts 28:15

  400. verse 15, when the believers went out to meet Paul.

  401. Paul was coming as a prisoner. He was coming to Rome to be

  402. tried before Caesar and they went out to meet Paul and escort

  403. Paul back to Rome. The word doesn't imply A

  404. departure. It doesn't imply A departure

  405. away with that individual forever or for a time.

  406. No, it implies reception. It implies an escort.

  407. The dead Saints are resurrected, they arrive to meet Christ, to

  408. see the Saiyans in the air and simultaneously the living

  409. Saints. They are raised, they are

  410. changed, they are transformed, and they also arise to meet

  411. Christ in the air. And the purpose is that his

  412. churches going out to meet the King, and they accompany him and

  413. royal triumph back to this earth.

  414. The rapture is not a removal for seven years before his coming.

  415. It's an integral part of his coming.

  416. Could I tell you something else very quickly?

  417. Bear with me for a few minutes. The resurrection destroys the

  418. pre tribulation gap of seven years.

  419. See the pre tribulation teaching requires this, a resurrection

  420. before the tribulation, the Church Saints dead and living.

  421. And then it requires another resurrection after the

  422. tribulation. We'll call them the tribulation

  423. Saints. That's the Saints that are saved

  424. between the the seven-year period.

  425. Those are saved. How do they get saved out of

  426. great tribulation? How do we know there's a people

  427. saved out of great tribulation? Well, listen to the Bible.

  428. In Revelation Chapter 7, we read this Revelation 7.

    Revelation 7 chapter mention

  429. Bear with me here. Verse 14 It says this.

  430. And I said unto him, Sir, Thou knowest.

  431. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great

  432. tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white

  433. in the blood of the Lamb. Therefore they are they before

  434. God. They are they before the throne

  435. of God, and serve him day and night in his temple.

  436. He that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

  437. You see, contrary to 1st Corinthians in 15 and 52, we

  438. read in a moment, at the last trump, the dead shall be raised.

  439. The last trumpet can't be a a trumpet 7 years before.

  440. There's not a trumpet mentioned in the Bible seven years before

  441. the last trumpet. The Lord Jesus said, I will

  442. raise him up at the last day. And the context of first first

    1 Corinthians 15:50–58

  443. Corinthians 15 verses 50 to 58 is that we shall not all sleep,

  444. but we shall all be changed. See, see that references to

  445. those who are alive when when Christ returns, as well as the

  446. glorious day during the graves. The rapture's not secret, the

  447. rapture's not silent. There's a shout, there's the

  448. voice of the trumpet. And it says in Revelation

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  449. chapter 1 and verse 7A, tremendous statement.

  450. Revelation One and seven says this.

  451. Behold, he cometh with clouds, and every eye shall see him.

  452. Do you get that? And they also which pierced him,

  453. and all kinders of the earth shall wheel because of him.

  454. Even so, Ah, man, the same Jesus, the one who died and rose

  455. again and went into heaven, the same Jesus shall come out of

  456. heaven. And He ascended visibly bodily

  457. and, and, and, and and and powerfully.

  458. His return will be visible, bodily and powerful.

  459. I'll tell you something else very quickly.

  460. The cosmic upheaval marks the coming of Christ in Matthew 24.

  461. I, I put it to you, the sun is darkened.

  462. The moon shall not give her light.

  463. There's the falling of the stars.

  464. There's the sign of the Son of Man appearing.

  465. The angels gather the elect, the sound of the trumpet, every eye

  466. shall see. And it's not secret, it's

  467. public, it's global, it's, it's, it's, it's climactic, it is

  468. castroscopic for the earth. The coming of Christ shakes the

  469. heaven and the earth. See, the Bible teaches, I

  470. believe one climatic thunderous arrival of the King from heaven.

  471. Philippians 3 Tenthy talks about he is coming out of heaven.

  472. Not an Angel, not a representative, not something

  473. invisible, unseen, not an influence, but the Lord himself,

  474. the same Jesus, the one who was kneeled to the tree, the one

  475. with the same the kneel pierced hands, the one who was crucified

  476. in the body, the one who was glorified in that body, that's

  477. the one who's coming. The day of the Lord is a

  478. thunders event. Everybody pointed out that in

  479. Second Thessalonians chapter 2 verses one to three, Paul

    2 Thessalonians 2 chapter mention

  480. connects the coming the Perusia with our gathering unto him.

  481. See, the day cannot come except there's a falling away.

  482. That's apostasy, and that's happening all around us.

  483. And that day cannot come until the man of sin has revealed the

  484. Antichrist, and he will be revealed in due time.

  485. And the gathering happens unto Christ after the revelation of

  486. the man of sin, not before. See, when we look at the events,

  487. we learn this is a scripture event.

  488. We learn that this is a singular event.

  489. It's not 2, but just one. And last of all, this is a

  490. supernatural event. Notice it says at the end.

  491. And with this we finish. So shall we ever be with the

  492. Lord? See, the Bible ends with

  493. permanence. The Bible ends with a promise.

  494. This is not about an escape plan.

  495. This is about meeting a returning king and Prince.

  496. This is about resurrection. This is about reunion.

  497. This is rejoicing in a most glorious transformation, when

  498. the dead in Christ are raised corrupt, incorruptible, when we

  499. who are alive are changed and we're all gathered to Christ. 1

  500. Coming, 1 appearing, 1 Revelation of Christ.

  501. And when that happens, there's the resurrection of the Saints.

  502. There's one glorious return, and as I've said, our hope is not to

  503. escape trouble or tribulation. Our hope is in Christ Himself.

  504. Sadly, and I say this as I finish, you see, these two

  505. separate future comings divided by 7 years were taught

  506. principally by a man called JM Darby and another man called

  507. Schofield. You might have seen it or heard

  508. of it in the Schofield Bible, but it was never taught in the

  509. early church. It was never taught until the

  510. 19th century, and that's when it gained popularity and it's known

  511. as part of the dispensational system.

  512. Now, I'm not knocking the dispensational system.

  513. I'm not attacking brethren. I'm not using argument for the

  514. sake of argument. But let me say this as I finish

  515. our authority is not in a system.

  516. Our authority has to be in the Scripture.

  517. What does the Bible say? And I've tried to show you what

  518. the Bible says, the three Greek words connected to coming,

  519. appearing, and revelation. I've tried to point out that the

  520. resurrection happens at the return of Christ, not before.

  521. I've tried to point out that the trumpet sounds, the last trumpet

  522. at that event, and when the trumpet sounds, there's a

  523. gathering to Christ. The glory is dead and we who are

  524. alive in the earth. And that one event is cosmic

  525. Saints, the sun, the moon, the stars impacted.

  526. There's a shaking of heaven, there's a shaking of earth, and

  527. the Lord is visibly seen at that event.

  528. It's a supernatural event. So when asked do you believe the

  529. rapture, you go out and say, yes I do.

  530. But ask them what they mean. And if they start talking about

  531. two separate comings divided by 7 years, just simply tell them

  532. that it's not scripture. You can't prove it from the

  533. Bible. It's based on a system taught by

  534. two men. We need to come back to the

  535. scriptures. And I've studied this, I've

  536. studied it quite a bit at length.

  537. I've listened to a particular man whose name I can't remember

  538. about two years ago. And I, I, I wrote 8 sermons to

  539. do with the coming of Christ. And this man was a believer in

  540. dispensational theology. He was very high up in the

  541. dispensational movement. And he come to this conviction

  542. that the rapture is at the return of Christ, not seven

  543. years before, not midway through, but after the

  544. tribulation. And you know what they did to

  545. him? They put him out of his

  546. assembly. I leave that with you.

  547. I pray the Lord will bless these few truths.

  548. I'm sorry it has taken so long to get to this point, but I

  549. trust that what I've said will be helpful in our study on 1st

  550. Thessalonians. Now, next week in the will of

  551. God, we'll deal with eight verses.

  552. And then the following week we'll deal with a few more

  553. verses just to try and hurry the study alone.
