  1. Great hymn. A reading tonight is taken from

  2. Psalm 104. We're going to read from verse

  3. 24 right through to the end, verse 35.

  4. Let's hear the Word of God. For those online, the words will

  5. come on the screen. We welcome our online community

  6. and we're delighted to have them and pray the Lord will bless

  7. them. We thank you for the many that

  8. have contacted us down through the years and in recent times

  9. and those that need special prayer.

  10. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

  11. Let's hear God's Word, Psalm 104, verse 24.

    Psalms 104:24

  12. O Lord, how manifold are thy works and wisdom?

  13. Hast thou made them all? The earth is full of Thy riches.

  14. So is this great and wide sea, for in are things creeping

  15. innumerable, both small and great beasts.

  16. There go the ships. There is that leviathan whom

  17. thou has made to play therein. These wait all upon thee, that

  18. thou mayest give them their meat.

  19. In due season that thou give us them, they gather.

  20. Thou openest thine hand, They are filled with good.

  21. Thou hatest thy face. They are troubled.

  22. They takest away their breath. They die and return to their

  23. dust. They send us forth thy spirit.

  24. They are created, and they renewest the face of the earth.

  25. The glory of the Lord shall endure forever.

  26. The Lord shall rejoice in His works.

  27. He looketh on the earth and it trembleth.

  28. He touches the hills, and they smoke.

  29. I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live.

  30. I will sing praise to my God while I have my being.

  31. My meditation of hymn shall be sweet.

  32. I will be glad in the Lord. Let the sinners be consumed out

  33. of the earth, and let the wicked be no more.

  34. Bless thy the Lord, O my soul, praise ye the Lord, Amen.

  35. We know God will stamp with His own approval and blessing this

  36. reading of His own precious and infallible word.

  37. Amen. Now my text tonight is taken

  38. from Psalm 104 and verse 26, and my theme this evening is simply

  39. entitled There Go the Ships. Psalm 104 is a majestic Psalm.

  40. It's a Psalm that proclaims and rejoices in the true and living

  41. God as Creator and Maker, Sustainer and Provider and

  42. Redeemer and judge. In these words we behold the

  43. glory of our great Creator who has made all things for himself.

  44. You see, Psalm 104 lifts our gears heavenward and by fee.

  45. If we survey the heavens, and then we survey the earth with

  46. all its majestic mountains, the hills, the valleys, we think

  47. about the beasts of the forest, the birds of the field, and as

  48. the psalmist torso, he is full of praise for the greatness and

  49. the majesty of God. He he remembers the heavens

  50. declare the glory of God, and the earth showeth forth his

  51. handiwork. Remember what Paul says in

  52. Romans chapter 1 and verse 20. For the invisible things of him

    Romans 1 chapter mention

  53. from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being

  54. understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power

  55. and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.

  56. And if you notice that the psalmist says in verse 24, but

  57. we have summary, O Lord, how manifold are thy works in wisdom

  58. has thy made them all the earth is full of thy riches.

  59. He adds this so is this green and wide sea.

  60. We're in our great creeping, innumerable things, both small

  61. and great base. Now he says this not to marvel

  62. at the sea, or the ships in it, or the great leviathan, but at

  63. the wisdom and power of God who governs and sustains them all.

  64. You see, the Bible reminds us that the whole of creation is no

  65. random spectacle of nature, but it is the ongoing theatre of

  66. God's glory. Every wave of the sea, every

  67. wind that blows, every sea craft that seals on the high seas,

  68. every creature therein on sea and land, testifies to this

  69. great truth. The great goodness, Providence,

  70. and power of God. The Bible tells us in Psalm 95,

    Psalms 95:5

  71. verse 5, the sea is His, and He made it.

  72. Now notice that the psalmist adds something in regarding the

  73. sea. Having said so is this great and

  74. wide sea, wherein our things creeping innumerable, both small

  75. and great peace. He adds this, There go the

  76. ships. And what a powerful little

  77. statement, a simple phrase, and yet one that is full of meaning.

  78. I believe that he's observing these ships.

  79. These ships are on a journey. They are bound for somewhere.

  80. Oh yes, they are small against the vastness of the ocean.

  81. Yes, they are frail and fragile against the fathoms of the deep.

  82. And yet the psalmist, as he stood in the coastline looking

  83. out onto the Mediterranean Sea, was able to say this.

  84. There go the ships. Now there's three things that

  85. come to mind, and I want to share them with you this

  86. evening. First of all, I want you to

  87. think of the voyage that is portrayed.

  88. There go the ships. David is observing the ships

  89. from the coastline leaving the Mediterranean coast goodnight

  90. into the Mediterranean Sea and beyond.

  91. And these ships are sailing in the great wide sea in verse 25.

  92. They're not made to sit in the harbour, they're not tied up at

  93. a quayside, they're not built to remain forever in a dry dock

  94. somewhere. No.

  95. They are made for a purpose, and that purpose is to be seen

  96. active on the sea. They all ships, large or small,

  97. have a place of origin, a place where they're built.

  98. We'll call that place where they're built a berth dock.

  99. Each ship has a berthing dock. And all ships, of course, are

  100. registered somewhere. And all ships have a builder and

  101. a maker and a designer and a an owner.

  102. In other words, these ships are built for travel.

  103. And the strangest thing is, so are human beings.

  104. God has made us. He has made us as our creator.

  105. He sustains and provides for us. He is our designer.

  106. He is our owner, and He's the taker, even if we want, of our

  107. lives. You see, life is not merely

  108. random. Why are we here?

  109. It's not a mere meaningless existence.

  110. It's not a mere physical drift. No, life is a voyage.

  111. Life is an adventure with God. There's a day we're born.

  112. We call it our birthday. And as time progresses, there's

  113. a process of development, childhood, boyhood, teens and

  114. 20s. And then soon teens grow up and

  115. to be young men and young ladies grow up to be young women and

  116. they progress from 20s into their 30s and 40s and 50s,

  117. sixties, seventy 80s and if the will of God right up to 90.

  118. And during that time, they're all on a journey, as it were, on

  119. the sea of time. And they seal in that sea of

  120. time in all seasons, in good weathers and bad, in rough

  121. weather and smooth. Now the ships that are built for

  122. travel are made to go somewhere. They're going to a port of

  123. destination and I believe David was thinking about the voyage

  124. that's portrayed here. There go the ships, they're

  125. leaving the ports, the ports of Israel, maybe leaving Tyree, and

  126. they're going out into the Mediterranean and they're

  127. travelling somewhere. Let me just ask tonight, do you

  128. see yourself on a journey? Do you see yourself as being one

  129. who's been born in the port of time, one on a journey and

  130. you're bound to the final port? And in between, from the day of

  131. birth, sailing through time and the sea of time, sailing in this

  132. great wide sea full of creatures beyond number great and small,

  133. you're heading to your final destination, heading to the

  134. final port. You see, the sea here, I

  135. believe, represents the vastness of life, represents the

  136. uncertainty of life, represents the depths of life.

  137. I'm told that the deepest point in the ocean is 7 miles deep.

  138. That's from here to Cumber. That's a very, very long way.

  139. And many of you as you journey tonight, your sailing or you

  140. feel your sailing, you are sailing in very rough seas.

  141. What have you faced last year and and now into 2026?

  142. Some of you are facing heartache, sickness,

  143. difficulties, distresses, darkness.

  144. We've we've all had to endure and face the death of precious

  145. loved ones. And you see in this journey

  146. that's being portrayed here, there go the ships.

  147. David knows that at some point in that journey, storms will

  148. come to engulf that ship and and even frighten the daylights of

  149. the sailors in that ship. Remember in the Sea of Galilee,

  150. the disciples asked the Lord Jesus asleep, Master, carest

  151. thou not that we perish? They thought they were going to

  152. die. And in between the port of birth

  153. and the final port, the final destination.

  154. That journey, I believe is a very short journey.

  155. It's brief. Remember what Psalm 90 says

  156. Psalm 90, the days of our years are three score years and 10 and

  157. if by reason of strength the before score years yet as their

  158. strength, labour and sorrow for the soon cut off and we flyeth

  159. away. Verse 12 so teach just the

  160. number our days that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

  161. And I just want to ask, tonight, as you seal through the journey

  162. of time, do you know the one who governs the seas?

  163. See, remember, you're not sealing independently of him.

  164. Even those who don't know him are not sealing independently of

  165. him, even those who have never tasted of His free sovereign

  166. grace. Let's think of all that people

  167. face in the journey. Storms, winds, current tage,

  168. pirates and darkness. And yet for many who seal in

  169. that sea of tame their life fails deep and difficult.

  170. The challenges and the circumstances that they face at

  171. times are overwhelming and and and and their, their, their life

  172. is full of fear. And maybe they have a sense of

  173. dread. We're not going to make it.

  174. We're we're we're we're in what we're in a great way.

  175. See 7 miles deep, as I've said, carried off to cumber.

  176. And yet in the midst of that, do you know the Lord?

  177. Have you a testimony that you're born again of the Spirit?

  178. Was there a time in your life when you trusted Jesus Christ as

  179. Lord and your Saviour? A time when you put your life

  180. and soul into His hands for safekeeping, and you know

  181. tonight that you're born of God? We who were formerly born in sin

  182. and shapen in iniquity, born dead to sin, needed newness of

  183. life and you have they quickened who were dead in trespasses and

  184. sins and in Christ. We've come to him as Lord and

  185. saver in Christ. We've come under his ownership

  186. in Christ. We have his companionship.

  187. Is that your experience tonight? You see all of that.

  188. The voids that is portrayed is bound up on those words.

  189. There go the ships. Notice the second thing that I

  190. thought about and it's this. If you look again at the text,

  191. there go the ships. Think of the vessel that is

  192. presented. The ships well underline that.

  193. You see in ancient time there was two types of ships.

  194. There was the trading ship and there was the great warship and

  195. they were vastly different. Now I believe the reference here

  196. is to the trading ships, that they were the seafaring vessels

  197. which were involved in commerce and trade.

  198. I'm well aware there were huge warships, but I I'm not thinking

  199. that David's thinking about them.

  200. He wasn't observing them leaving his coast to go off into other

  201. ports. The Phoenicians were great

  202. shipbuilders, and the Phoenicians and Tyree and Sidon,

  203. they were great for building these seafaring vessels.

  204. There were certain size and a certain width and a certain

  205. height. And what was their purpose?

  206. Think of the purpose of the ships, not for pleasure, but for

  207. produce. They were especially designed.

  208. They they were built for a purpose, not merely decorative.

  209. But they had a duty. They, they carried food and wood

  210. and precious cargo like gold and silver, animal fur, supplies and

  211. messages. In other words, they had an

  212. assignment to fulfil. They they, they connected

  213. countries and nations. Do you know that the Queen of

  214. Sheba was said to have some 400 of these ships in her fleet?

  215. 400 seafaring trading vessels. The Bible speaks 8 times, for

  216. example in Isaiah 2 and 16 of the ships of Tarshish.

  217. And the ships of Tarshish sealed all over the world doing

  218. business. Cedar from Lebanon, fine linen

  219. from Egypt, gold and silver from Spain, 10 from Spain, ivory and

  220. Peacocks from Africa even believe they're sealed to the

  221. British Isles because the Bible speaks about the Isles.

  222. It's widely believed they're sealed even as far as the

  223. Caribbean Sea if you turn over the air for one reference, Just

  224. to give you a little insight, it says in First Kings chapter 5

    1 Kings 5:7–12

  225. verse 7 to 12. I'll just read the portion First

    1 Kings 5:7–12

  226. Kings chapter 5 verse 7 to 12. Now think of these words.

  227. And it came to pass when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that

  228. he rejoiced greatly and said, blessed be the God this day,

  229. which is given unto David, a wise son over this great people.

  230. And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the

  231. thing which thou sentest to me for.

  232. And I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar and

  233. concerning timber of fur. My servants shall bring them

  234. down from Lebanon unto the sea, and I will convey them by sea in

  235. floats unto the pleas that thou shall appoint me, and I will

  236. cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive

  237. them, and thou shall accomplish my desire in giving food for my

  238. household. So Hiram gave Solomon cedar

  239. trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

  240. And Solomon gave Hiram 20,000 measures of wheat for food to

  241. his household, and 20 measures of pure oil thus gave Solomon to

  242. Hiram year by year. Here's an Old Testament shipping

  243. contract, an Old Testament shipping arrangement, no doubt

  244. one of many. And it was between King Solomon

  245. and King Hiram of Syria. You see, these ships, as have

  246. said, had a purpose. Not to be tied up in the dock,

  247. not built for nothing, not built to stay tied to the harbour and

  248. never used. And like these ships, we too

  249. have a purpose. Now, what's your purpose?

  250. What's mine? Well, the Catechism tells us

  251. man's defend us to glorify God and enjoy him forever.

  252. We were built for God. We were built for God's glory.

  253. We were built to enjoy God. Now how can we do that?

  254. What are we actually doing for God?

  255. What does God want of us? I said this to the young people

  256. on Friday night. I give them the best advice that

  257. I could, and this was the best advice that I give them, to know

  258. God, to know him as Creator and Maker and as Redeemer and Judge.

  259. I advised him to pursue holiness and he had sinned and say no to

  260. it. I advised him to seek God for

  261. wisdom. I had urged him to live for him,

  262. to sacrifice all for him. I urge them, remember in the

  263. words of Matthew 6 and verse 33, But seek ye first the Kingdom of

  264. God and his righteousness, and all these other things shall be

  265. added on to you. And remember what Paul says in

  266. Romans chapter 12. He says this.

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  267. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,

  268. and you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy,

  269. acceptable unto God, with your readable service, and be not

  270. conformed to this world, but be it transformed.

  271. By the renewing of your mind that you may prove what is that

  272. good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

  273. That's our purpose as we seek to glorify God and enjoy Him.

  274. Those five bits of advice should form the core of all that we do.

  275. And the last one was to fix their gaze in Christ as the

  276. author and the finisher of our faith.

  277. That's the purpose of the ships. Secondly, and very quickly, not

  278. only the vessel that's presented in its purpose, but think of the

  279. vessel presented in its properties.

  280. We emphasise this to the children down at the school few

  281. nights ago. 4 things every ship needs.

  282. Every ship needs a captain. Do you know a ship can't seal

  283. without a captain? Every ship that seals without an

  284. appointed captain is a disaster waiting to happen.

  285. And of course, we know that in the Bible, in Paul's day, there

  286. was a captain that was warned not to set seal.

  287. He ignored that advice. He took no heed.

  288. And what did it lead to? It led the shipwreck.

  289. You see, a ship must have a captain in charge.

  290. There must be an authority on board to make decisions.

  291. And of course in the book of Hebrews, in Hebrews chapter 2

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  292. and verse 10, we're taught that the Lord Jesus Christ is the

  293. captain of our salvation. It says, for it became him for

  294. whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many

  295. sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation

  296. perfect through suffering. Remember Joshua was told when he

  297. asked the man that he saw, are you for us?

  298. Are you for our enemies? And he said, neither, I'm the

  299. captain of the Lord's hosts. We need Christ as our captain.

  300. He's the one that can guide us. Psalm 32, verse eight.

  301. I will teach the instructee in the way in which they shall go.

  302. I will guide thee with mine eye. Another property of the ship is

  303. ships are named, they're registered, they have an

  304. identity there, there, there's an ownership.

  305. They, they, they, they belong to someone.

  306. Do you know what the Lord Jesus said to his disciples, Luke 10

  307. and verse 20 to rejoice that their names are written in

  308. heaven? Isn't it wonderful to know that

  309. your name is written and recorded in heaven?

  310. It's, it's in the Lamb's book of life.

  311. Every one of us is a name Christian, a name to live or a

  312. name to die. And we should rejoice in this

  313. truth that our names are written in heaven and when the books are

  314. opened, our name will be there. Every ship needs a crew.

  315. No ship sails alone. Acts 27.

  316. Paul was on a ship of 276 other people, soldiers and sailors and

  317. prisoners. Paul was one of those prisoners.

  318. You see, we sail with others in the journey there.

  319. There's a sense of belonging. And when the Lord Jesus was in

  320. the boat and it was out in the Sea of Galilee, we read there in

  321. Matthew or Mark chapter 5 that they were with him also other

    Mark 5 chapter mention

  322. little ships. And I think we preached it not

  323. in the past. There's a sense of belonging and

  324. I want you to have a sense of belonging to carried off FPC,

  325. not only belonging to a particular family, but belonging

  326. to this church family, belonging to this church fellowship,

  327. joining with other believers of like precious faith.

  328. You see, we need fellowship with one another.

  329. We need encouragement one with another.

  330. We need activity with one another, but we also need

  331. accountability. Another property for the ship is

  332. the ship must have an anchor. Hebrews chapter 6 and verse 19

    Hebrews 6 chapter mention

  333. tells us those tremendous words about the anchor.

  334. Hebrews 6 and 19, and this is what it says, which hope we have

  335. as an anchor of the soul, be sure and steadfast, and which

  336. entereth into that within the veil.

  337. The word hope here, as I emphasised this morning,

  338. assuring certain you think of an anchor, what does it do?

  339. Well, it keeps the ship from drifting, drifting to

  340. destruction. You see, without an anchor, the

  341. storms will move the ship when they come and batter it.

  342. The the current will control the ship.

  343. Take it off course. No, we're not talking about

  344. diesel engine ships. We're talking about ships that

  345. were dependent on the seal by the wind, and of course without

  346. an anchor, the rocks would destroy the ship.

  347. We have an anchor that keeps the soul steadfast and sure while

  348. the billows roll. And our anchor is actually God's

  349. salvation that's found in Christ as the captain of our salvation.

  350. So we come back to that truth about being savingly joined to

  351. Christ. It's not about joining the

  352. church. Some people with this notion,

  353. you know, that all they have to do as a Christian, to be a

  354. Christian is just to come to church and start attending.

  355. And it's wonderful to attend to church.

  356. It's wonderful to attend the Bible believing church.

  357. And there's few Bible believing churches, let me tell you.

  358. And I'm not boasting when I say that that is the reality, but to

  359. come to a Bible, but even church is tremendous.

  360. But it's not just coming to the church that saves us all.

  361. It's it's Christ. Are you joined to Christ?

  362. That's the anchor for your soul. Notice also very quickly here

  363. the progress of the ship. There go the ship that really

  364. struck me. They're not built to sit,

  365. they're not built to drift, not there be the ships.

  366. That would mean that we're tied up in the harbour, but there go

  367. the ships. The word go speaks of progress

  368. and movement and motion and purpose.

  369. As I've said, we're built for purpose.

  370. We're built for progress, we're built for mission.

  371. We're not to sit in the dock of comfort.

  372. No, we're destined for the duty of a challenge and the

  373. challenges we were built to travel as ships of the high

  374. seas. We're not safe to sit.

  375. We're we're safe to serve. We're created in Christ Jesus on

  376. the good works which God had before ordained.

  377. We're under orders. We've got the Great Commission

  378. from the the captain of our salvation go into all the world

  379. and preach the gospel to every creature.

  380. And that's my responsibility and yours as well along with me.

  381. We have to go into our community and preach the gospel.

  382. Even the people that don't want to hear, people that are in

  383. spiritual darkness, people that are dead to God and blamed and

  384. seized, we've got to bring to them the Word of God.

  385. Tell them the mighty Jesus is able to save and save to the

  386. uttermost. Think very quickly here of the

  387. power of the ship. There go the ship.

  388. How do these ships sail on the high seas?

  389. What propel them? Think back now.

  390. This is 1000 years before Christ, before diesel engines

  391. ever came about. Well, you've already thought of

  392. it. The power of the wind.

  393. They sealed hoisting their seals with the power of the wind, and

  394. the power of the wind LED them to the port of their

  395. destination. Is that not a reference here to

  396. John chapter 3? Remember what the Lord Jesus

    John 3 chapter mention

  397. said to Nicodemus? He said this in John 3, verse 8.

    John 3:8

  398. The wind blows where it lifts us, and now here's the sound

  399. thereof. But canst it tale whence it

  400. cometh? Whether it goes?

  401. So is everyone that is born of the Spirit.

  402. He had already said to him in verse 7, Marvel not that I say

  403. unto thee, You must be born again.

  404. We need the power of the Holy Spirit.

  405. It's the Holy Spirit who regenerates us, brings about the

  406. new birth, transforms and changes our lives.

  407. He indwells us wonderful thing to be knowed.

  408. You're indwelt by the Spirit. He leads us on the journey.

  409. He He equips us with fruit and gifts, and He fills us.

  410. Be not drunk with wine, we're in his excess, but be filled with

  411. the Spirit. Ephesians 5 and 18 The Lord

  412. Jesus said of you then being evil, know how to give good

  413. gifts unto your children. How much more shall your

  414. heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them?

  415. Ask him. One of the biggest challenges

  416. I've discovered from the Gospel of Micah, like I said, I'm full

  417. of power by the Spirit of God, the power of the ships as we go.

  418. It was the power of the wind and how much we need the power of

  419. God's Spirit to come upon us. These ships have to be managed.

  420. Even though they had the power of the wind, there had to be

  421. navigation. They, they, they navigated the

  422. coastline from a certain distance.

  423. They had charts and maps. Later on they began to follow

  424. the North Star. You know, some of these trading

  425. ships could travel 50 and 75 miles per day if they had a good

  426. captain and the, the, the wind was there filling the seals and

  427. the navigational charts and the instruments and the coastline,

  428. they could travel that distance. We've got the word of God.

  429. We've got the law of the Lord, and the Word of God covers every

  430. area of her life, and that word is light, and that word is a

  431. lamp unto our fate. And of course, through the Word

  432. of God, we're focusing in on Him who is the the captain of our

  433. salvation. Remember the psalmist, the godly

  434. man blessed is the man that walketh not in the country of

  435. the ungodly. They're standing in the way of

  436. sinners. They're sitteth in the seat of

  437. the scornful. But his delight is in the law of

  438. the Lord and in his Lordoth he meditate day and night.

  439. Oh, that the Church could come back to the book.

  440. Only the Scriptures. What saith the scriptures?

  441. See, that was the Reformation cry in the 15th century, the

  442. 16th century. The Great Awakening in England

  443. was rooted in that. What saith the Scriptures?

  444. We've got away from the Scriptures because we've got

  445. away from the Scriptures. Then apostasy and apathy and

  446. indifference and coldness and everything else is set into the

  447. life of the Church. Leaders do that which is right

  448. in their own eyes. Echo bods on the door.

  449. Very quickly here. Think about the peril of the

  450. ship already touched in this. The ship's going to be tested.

  451. It'll face storms. The storms will test the ship as

  452. the ship's sound. Will the anchor hold?

  453. Does the crew really trust the captain in the storm?

  454. You see, every captain would have fear of mutiny.

  455. Many ships sank in the storm. There was the loss of life.

  456. Some ships survived. And as I've said, you and I, as

  457. we seal the high seas of life from the day of our birth to the

  458. final port of destination, you and I will face many storms.

  459. We'll have to trust our captain. He says, trust me, you'll face

  460. sickness and disease and tragedy and death.

  461. But if you see your vessel has been managed by him and he's

  462. your captain, and you bear His name because your name's

  463. registered in heaven, and you've got the anchor of salvation, and

  464. you're with a crew of God's people, and you're under him.

  465. His eye is upon you, his his hand is upon you, and all that

  466. overwhelms you and frightens you, just remember, he's in

  467. control. He's governing it all.

  468. He is sovereign. He'll not cause a needless tear.

  469. The vessel that is presented. And one final thing, the view

  470. that is pictured. If you think of David standing,

  471. observing in the coastline and saying thus there go the ships,

  472. the voids that's portrayed. That's what he's thinking about.

  473. And the vessel that is presented in his mind, the ships, plural,

  474. all of these various things that I've mentioned.

  475. Think of one final thing, the view that is pictured their

  476. destination. If you turn over there to I

  477. think it's Second Chronicles Chapter 9, Second Chronicles

2 Chronicles 9 chapter mention 2 Chronicles 9 chapter mention

  478. Chapter 9 and verse 21. And we read this, for the King's

  479. ships went to Tarshish with the servants of Hiram every three

  480. years. Once came the ships of Tarshish,

  481. bringing gold and silver, ivory and apes and Peacocks.

  482. And King Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches and

  483. wisdom. Now I want you to notice

  484. something in that verse of Scripture.

  485. Second Corinthians, Second Chronicles 9 and 21.

  486. Three years, three years. They were on the high seas.

  487. Would you like to be in the high seas for three full years?

  488. That was David's observation. There go the ships.

  489. They're leaving the coast now and they're going out, and then

  490. they'll come back and, and, and they're the ships of Tarsus and

  491. he's observing them, but he sees them as an opportunity.

  492. There go and they're gone. They're over the horizon.

  493. And what does that teach us? It teaches us this, that our

  494. life is brief. For a moment it's seen and then

  495. it's gone. James asks.

  496. What is your life? It is even a vapour that appears

  497. for a little time and then vanished away.

  498. He sees the ships and he thinks about his own life.

  499. He thinks about it's past, he thinks about the present, he

  500. thinks about the future. And I want you to think about

  501. the future now as we finish the view that is pictured.

  502. These ships are headed for a final destination.

  503. Where are you headed? Are you buying for the port

  504. called heaven? Are you buying for the port

  505. called hell? The Bible tells us this as we

  506. wrap things up this evening over there in the Book of Revelation,

  507. in Revelation chapter 21 and 27, it tells us this marvellous

    Revelation 21 chapter mention

  508. truth, and there shall in no ways enter into it anything that

  509. defineth neither whatsoever worketh abomination or maketh a

  510. lie, but they that are written in the Lamb's book of life.

  511. Is that the port that you're bound for because your name is

  512. written in that book of life? I remember having the

  513. opportunity to go and see the tall ships that came into

  514. Belfast. We came from Portrush.

  515. It was a very, very wet day. We got soaked, difficulty

  516. getting parked and we had to walk.

  517. But it was lovely to see the tall ships and it was lovely to

  518. watch because it was the very last day and then they were

  519. setting sail down Belfast Lock. I remember thinking of these

  520. words. There go the ships the last time

  521. I was going to see them. Do you see yourself as a ship?

  522. Make sure that you're buying for the port called Heaven, not for

  523. the port called hell. Imagine spending eternity having

  524. lived a life 60708090 a hundred years and ended up in the place

  525. where the worm dieth not the fires not quenched for all

  526. eternity. May the Lord give grace and

  527. wisdom for His Word. This evening I'm going to sing

  528. in closing, just a couple of verses, a couple of verses of

  529. 316, 316. You've been very patient.

  530. A trusted God will bless His word to your heart.

  531. It's not by accident that the Lord has put this word in my

  532. heart for you. This evening.

  533. We're going to sing verses 1/3 and five of three 1/6 as we

  534. finish this evening.
