  1. Well, good morning, church. We are continuing our series in the book of Ephesians today.

  2. So if you'll take the word of God with me and turn to the book of Ephesians, we are

  3. completing chapter one today, Lord willing, beginning in verse 15, Ephesians chapter one

  4. and verse 15. As you turn there, I want to remind you of a little bit of background on

  5. the book. Ephesians has two themes. The first half of the book talks about who we are. The

  6. second half, how we live, who we are, and how we live. Much of our content from this

  7. series was drawn from the Christ-centered exposition series of commentaries, a book on Ephesians

  8. authored by Pastor Tony Merida. And the background of the book of Ephesians is it was written by

  9. Apostle Paul around the year AD 62. And the setting, he was under house arrest and Roman

  10. imprisonment far away. But he was very familiar with this church in Ephesus. He had been a

  11. pastor with them for about three years. You can read that account in Acts chapter 19.

    Acts 19 chapter mention

  12. The breakdown of the book, again, chapters one through three, who we are in Christ, our identity.

  13. And actually this corresponds well with what the youth are studying on Wednesday nights.

  14. They have a series going on studying our identity in Christ. And that is exciting when that overlaps

  15. with what's going on here on Sundays. The second half of the book talks about how we live for Christ.

  16. So who we are and how we live. Part one, we're in right now, who we are in Christ. So today we'll

  17. be reading from primarily the Christian standard Bible, Ephesians chapter one and verse 15. If you're

  18. able to, would you join me in standing? If you need to remain seated, that's fine. But if you're able

  19. to join me in standing, we'll read together Ephesians chapter one and verse 15. This is why,

  20. since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, I never stop giving

  21. thanks for you as I remember you in my prayers. I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  22. the glorious Father, would give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation and the knowledge of him.

  23. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened so that you may know what is the hope of his

  24. calling, what is the wealth of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the

  25. immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe according to the mighty working of his strength.

  26. verse 20. He exercised this power in Christ by raising him from the dead and seating him at his

  27. right hand in the heavens, far above every ruler and authority, power and dominion and every title given,

  28. not only in this age, but also in the one to come. And he subjected everything under his feet

  29. and appointed him, Jesus, as head over everything for the church. Remember that? Church is not about me.

  30. Church is about Jesus, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way. You may be seated.

  31. Lord, I thank you for this time. I thank you that you've given us this letter to this church in Ephesus that is still 100% relevant

  32. for our church in Henrietta. I ask that you would move in our hearts this morning. Let the light of your word reveal

  33. the truth about us and help us to walk out of these doors today, knowing you more intimately. It's in Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

  34. All right, this chapter

  35. is broken down to two sections. We covered

  36. two weeks ago, the first half and the second half here.

  37. Man, that first half was powerful.

  38. Absolutely powerful.

  39. It's really hard for Paul to improve on what he did in that first chapter, the first half of the first chapter of Ephesians,

  40. talking about who we are in Christ, the redemption that we have through his blood, the inheritance that we have received,

  41. that we were chosen by God.

  42. And being chosen by God motivates us then

  43. to love him, to worship him, to give him praise.

  44. And now he closes this chapter with a prayer.

  45. A prayer for the church.

  46. A magnificent prayer

  47. that you and I can latch on to

  48. and be grateful

  49. that this is in the scriptures

  50. meant for our edification today.

  51. So what is he talking about in this prayer?

  52. Let me ask you this question.

  53. Does anybody know who these people are?

  54. Good guess.

  55. It took us a minute to even identify the type of jerseys, but we got there.

  56. These are arguably the top five soccer players in the world right now,

  57. arguably the best at their positions, according to the main soccer publications out there.

  58. I dare say that if any one of these guys walked into our church this morning,

  59. there's not one person in this room who would have a clue who they are.

  60. However, if they went in just about anywhere else in the world,

  61. they would be mobbed.

  62. Paparazzi would be following them everywhere.

  63. There'd be crowds thronging them

  64. because those people know these guys.

  65. These guys are worldwide celebrities,

  66. except in the United States.

  67. We're the only ones who don't play football with our feet.

  68. And so there is a little disconnect there

  69. between knowing who these people are

  70. and knowing who these people are.

  71. Now take a minute and let's hear some names, all right?

  72. Who do we have up here?

  73. Troy Aikman,

  74. Roger Staubach,

  75. Tony Romo,

  76. Zach Prescott.

  77. My wife even knows who a couple of these guys were, man.

  78. Listen,

  79. if any one of these guys walked into our building this morning,

  80. we might have to cancel the service

  81. because y'all would be so starstruck, right?

  82. Who am I kidding?

  83. I would be too.

  84. Yeah, you walk into a town in Texas

  85. and throw some Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks up there,

  86. absolutely people know who they are.

  87. For those of you who didn't have a clue,

  88. those are Dallas Cowboys quarterbacks, okay?

  89. It's all in the context of what you care about,

  90. what your interests are,

  91. what you spend your time learning about,

  92. and around the world, soccer is king.

  93. But here in Texas,

  94. the Dallas Cowboys are king.

  95. They may not always be king on the scoreboard on Sundays,

  96. all right?

  97. But we're going to win today,

  98. and they kick at noon,

  99. so we need to hurry up.

  100. But y'all don't rush off.

  101. We got to help get ready for Drunkertreat, okay?

  102. So let's wrap this puppy up.

  103. All right, here we go.

  104. So the idea here is

  105. we need to reflect and consider

  106. how well we know God

  107. because there are certain things

  108. that we know very well.

  109. And a lot of it depends on context.

  110. And the truth is,

  111. how well you know God

  112. depends on how much time

  113. you've spent studying Him,

  114. how much time you've spent with Him,

  115. how much time you've spent learning about Him,

  116. how much of a nerd you are about God.

  117. How many Star Wars nerds we got in here?

  118. Yes?

  119. Yes?

  120. Some of you, like, hesitantly.

  121. I'm not proud of it, but yes.

  122. I did.

  123. I did say yes.

  124. I did.

  125. Star Trek?

  126. Anybody Star Trek?

  127. You got some Trekkies?

  128. Wow.

  129. Wow.

  130. The age of some of those, like,

  131. okay.

  132. Some younger people who are Star Trek fans.

  133. All right.

  134. What else?

  135. Marvel?

  136. DC?

  137. Marvel and DC, Jessica.

  138. Wow.

  139. Okay.

  140. Amazing.

  141. We're bridging gaps here in this church, man.

  142. Well, listen.

  143. How many of us nerd out

  144. for holy God

  145. as much as we do

  146. for these other areas of entertainment

  147. in our lives?

  148. Now, look.

  149. I can tell you every single member

  150. of the Dallas Cowboys this year.

  151. I love them to death.

  152. I love my Texas Rangers.

  153. Let's not talk about last night.

  154. But how much of our time,

  155. how much of our interest

  156. is spent knowing more and more

  157. about these things

  158. that matter in the here and now,

  159. but in the scope of eternity,

  160. they don't matter a bit.

  161. They don't matter at all.

  162. But we oftentimes

  163. know far more about that

  164. than we do

  165. the one who bled and died for us,

  166. rose from the grave victoriously,

  167. and offers life-changing power

  168. to us every day.

  169. So there is a revelation

  170. involved in knowing God.

  171. Let's look back at verse 17

  172. of chapter 1.

  173. Verse 17 of Ephesians chapter 1.

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  174. I pray that the God

  175. of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  176. the glorious Father,

  177. would give you

  178. the spirit of wisdom

  179. and revelation

  180. in the knowledge

  181. of Him.

  182. That you would get

  183. to know God better,

  184. and then you would experience

  185. this divine revelation

  186. that comes with knowing God.

  187. What are we talking about

  188. when we say revelation?

  189. That God reveals things to you.

  190. God reveals the truth

  191. about Himself.

  192. God reveals His true nature.

  193. Do you realize

  194. that if you grow up in church,

  195. oftentimes,

  196. you can get a distorted view

  197. of who God is?

  198. You understand that?

  199. You can all of a sudden realize,

  200. especially growing up

  201. in Baptist churches,

  202. that God is not just

  203. a bunch of rules.

  204. Because sometimes

  205. that is what we portray,

  206. and that is what we emphasize,

  207. that if you do this,

  208. if you check these boxes,

  209. if you live according

  210. to how we say

  211. you ought to live,

  212. then you are good,

  213. you are fine,

  214. and God is happy with you.

  215. That is not an accurate view

  216. of God.

  217. God knows the truth

  218. about you.

  219. He knows the truth

  220. about me.

  221. He knows we are

  222. far worse

  223. than the image

  224. that we portray

  225. on Sunday morning

  226. in church.

  227. Whether you're standing

  228. in a choir

  229. or sitting out here,

  230. we try to portray

  231. the best version

  232. of ourselves,

  233. don't we?

  234. Of course we do.

  235. God knows that

  236. you're not really that.

  237. He knows that

  238. those people,

  239. young people

  240. who post on Instagram,

  241. their lives aren't

  242. really like that.

  243. They took that picture

  244. 25 times

  245. to get it just right

  246. to portray

  247. this certain image.

  248. And we do that

  249. in our day-to-day lives.

  250. When people are coming

  251. over to our house,

  252. what do we do?

  253. We try to straighten

  254. it up real quick.

  255. We try to clean it.

  256. We go,

  257. oh man,

  258. I've got to throw

  259. the dishes

  260. in the dishwasher.

  261. I've got to go

  262. make the bed real quick.

  263. Or at least close

  264. the door to the bedroom

  265. so they don't go in there.

  266. We try to portray

  267. an image

  268. that we have it

  269. all together

  270. when God knows

  271. we don't have it

  272. all together.

  273. We are a mess.

  274. But God is revealed

  275. when we get to know

  276. Him better,

  277. we realize

  278. those aren't the things

  279. that He prioritizes.

  280. Remember what we talked

  281. about in our series

  282. on the church?

  283. Don't make the

  284. secondary stuff

  285. primary.

  286. Primary

  287. is what God

  288. really cares about.

  289. He cares about you.

  290. He cares about your heart.

  291. He cares about rescuing you.

  292. He cares about changing you.

  293. He cares about saving you.

  294. He cares about redeeming

  295. your life.

  296. So there is a revelation

  297. in knowing God.

  298. Now man,

  299. we care about how you

  300. have it all together.

  301. Mankind,

  302. our fellow neighbor,

  303. we are judging.

  304. We talk back.

  305. We talk bad about you

  306. behind your back.

  307. That's what people do.

  308. God doesn't do that.

  309. So we reveal

  310. the real God

  311. when we get to know

  312. Him better.

  313. How do you get to know

  314. God better?

  315. You spend time with Him.

  316. You pray.

  317. You talk to Him.

  318. You actually spend time

  319. in your day

  320. talking to the one

  321. who wants to hear from you.

  322. You actually spend time

  323. reading the instruction

  324. manual for life

  325. that He left behind here.

  326. and we've got Him

  327. so nicely bound

  328. in leather and all that.

  329. That is God.

  330. He's revealed Himself

  331. to us.

  332. I'm not talking about

  333. getting some vision

  334. because you ate too much

  335. Mexican food the night before.

  336. I'm talking about

  337. real,

  338. genuine learning

  339. of who God is.

  340. He's told us exactly

  341. about His nature.

  342. He's told us everything

  343. we need to know

  344. about Him.

  345. and it's all there

  346. for the taking.

  347. And God reveals

  348. Himself to us.

  349. You know what else?

  350. He reveals us

  351. in Him.

  352. It's like a mirror.

  353. When we look at God,

  354. we see how fake we are.

  355. When we look at how real

  356. and genuine His love is,

  357. we see how poor of an excuse

  358. our love is.

  359. And then we're just astounded.

  360. Why would God love me?

  361. I'm a mess.

  362. I can't measure up.

  363. That's what grace is all about.

  364. That's what salvation

  365. is all about.

  366. That's what God

  367. is all about.

  368. So we need Holy Spirit glasses.

  369. We need Holy Spirit glasses.

  370. These are not

  371. rose-colored glasses.

  372. This is not looking through life

  373. that everything's okay.

  374. It's realizing

  375. that everything is not okay,

  376. but it can be well

  377. with my soul

  378. despite all the mess around me,

  379. despite all the mess

  380. within my own heart.

  381. It can still be well

  382. with my soul

  383. because God loves me,

  384. He cares,

  385. He sacrificed everything,

  386. and He wants and desires

  387. above everything else

  388. a relationship with me

  389. because that glorifies Him.

  390. That brings glory to Him.

  391. So we have an opportunity

  392. to worship our God,

  393. praise Him,

  394. bring honor and glory

  395. to His name every day

  396. by working on our relationship

  397. with Him,

  398. seeing us as He sees us,

  399. seeing Him as He truly is.

  400. We can only do that

  401. by looking through

  402. these Holy Spirit glasses.

  403. So if you have put your faith

  404. in Christ,

  405. repented of your sins,

  406. turned from them

  407. and turned to Him

  408. as your Savior

  409. to become His child,

  410. then you have

  411. the Holy Spirit with you.

  412. And the Holy Spirit

  413. can reveal

  414. who God is

  415. and who we are

  416. to us.

  417. 2 Corinthians chapter 4

    2 Corinthians 4 chapter mention

  418. kind of talks about this.

  419. We are not proclaiming ourselves,

  420. but Jesus Christ

  421. as Lord.

  422. God, who said,

  423. let light shine out of darkness,

  424. has shown in our hearts

  425. to give the light

  426. of the knowledge

  427. of God's glory

  428. in the face

  429. of Jesus Christ.

  430. That is a revealing light.

  431. It is an illuminating light

  432. that shines on our hearts

  433. through the power

  434. of the Holy Spirit

  435. and it allows us

  436. to see clearly.

  437. Until then,

  438. we're seeing a distorted view

  439. of the world.

  440. And that's why

  441. we're so easily swayed

  442. by things we read online,

  443. by things we watch online,

  444. by things we hear

  445. other people say,

  446. things we hear people say

  447. about us.

  448. We are so easily swayed

  449. by everything

  450. except what God says.

  451. So we must get

  452. to know Him better.

  453. We've got to look

  454. through His Holy Spirit glasses

  455. and then see

  456. who we really are

  457. and who He really is.

  458. Number two,

  459. the blessings

  460. of knowing God.

  461. The blessings

  462. of knowing God.

  463. Did y'all notice today

  464. in your bulletins

  465. you've got some work to do?

  466. Anybody notice that?

  467. Good.

  468. Y'all doing the work?

  469. Y'all writing it down?

  470. Alright, here we go.

  471. We told you for a little while

  472. this was coming.

  473. We're going to be

  474. active participants today.

  475. Fill in those blanks.

  476. Alright, so number one,

  477. the revelation

  478. of knowing God.

  479. Number two,

  480. the blessings

  481. of knowing God.

  482. Boy, the blessings

  483. of knowing God

  484. we could spend

  485. the rest of the day

  486. talking about them

  487. and still not

  488. scratch the surface.

  489. But let's give

  490. a little overview here

  491. beginning in verse 18.

  492. Ephesians 1.18,

  493. I pray that the eyes

  494. of your heart

  495. may be enlightened.

  496. Talking about that revelation.

  497. So that you may know

  498. what is the hope

  499. of His calling.

  500. There we go,

  501. the hope of His calling.

  502. What is the wealth

  503. of His glorious inheritance

  504. in the saints.

  505. The wealth

  506. of His inheritance.

  507. And what is

  508. the immeasurable

  509. greatness of His power

  510. toward us who believe

  511. according to the mighty

  512. working of His strength.

  513. Did you catch those

  514. three key words

  515. that were in there?

  516. Hope,

  517. inheritance,

  518. and power.

  519. Hope,

  520. inheritance,

  521. and power.

  522. These are three blessings

  523. of knowing God

  524. that the text reveals to us

  525. here in Ephesians chapter 1.

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  526. So,

  527. let's look first

  528. over Jeremiah.

  529. We're looking at hope.

  530. Hope number one.

  531. Hope.

  532. Then Jeremiah 29.11,

  533. I know the plans

  534. I have for you.

  535. Plans for your well-being,

  536. not for disaster,

  537. to give you a future

  538. and a hope.

  539. That is why

  540. Christians can have

  541. such a positive outlook

  542. on life,

  543. even when things

  544. aren't going well.

  545. It's because God

  546. gives us a future

  547. and a hope.

  548. He promises that.

  549. So,

  550. it's like,

  551. it doesn't matter

  552. how bad the here

  553. and now gets,

  554. I know that there's

  555. a future,

  556. and I know my future

  557. is secure.

  558. I know there's a hope

  559. for today.

  560. I know that even

  561. though I mess up,

  562. God's love for me

  563. wasn't contingent

  564. on me not messing up.

  565. God loves me

  566. despite my mess ups.

  567. So,

  568. I can have a hope,

  569. and I can still

  570. have a future.

  571. My future is secure.

  572. There's nothing

  573. that I did

  574. to inherit God's presence.

  575. There's nothing

  576. I did

  577. to inherit God's love,

  578. and there's nothing

  579. that I can do

  580. to lose it.

  581. I have a future,

  582. and it's secure,

  583. and I have a hope,

  584. and it's real,

  585. and it's unshakable.

  586. You know what the

  587. enemy of hope is?

  588. Fear.

  589. The enemy of hope

  590. is fear.

  591. How many of us

  592. struggle with fear

  593. on a daily basis?

  594. You don't have

  595. to raise your hand.

  596. We know you do.

  597. You know I do.

  598. We all do.

  599. Every one of us

  600. struggles with fear

  601. because we are

  602. living in this flesh,

  603. but that's why

  604. we must remind ourselves

  605. continually who God is.

  606. We've got to get to know

  607. Him more intimately.

  608. That's where that hope

  609. comes from.

  610. Look through those

  611. Holy Spirit glasses,

  612. and remember

  613. that we have a hope,

  614. and it's alive.

  615. 1 Peter chapter 1,

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  616. Praise be to the God

  617. and Father of our

  618. Lord Jesus Christ.

  619. In His great mercy,

  620. He's given us new birth

  621. into a living hope.

  622. There's a song,

  623. a Christian song

  624. that's written about that.

  625. It says,

  626. Jesus Christ,

  627. my living hope.

  628. He is our living hope.

  629. He's alive.

  630. That's why the resurrection

  631. of Jesus from the dead

  632. is the one thing

  633. that we can rest

  634. all of our hope on.

  635. It's the one thing

  636. that we can build

  637. our hope on

  638. because if He died

  639. and He didn't come back

  640. to life,

  641. then He wasn't God.

  642. The things He said

  643. weren't true,

  644. and this is all

  645. an exercise in futility.

  646. It's all worth nothing.

  647. But He did rise from the dead.

  648. He is alive today,

  649. and He is our living hope

  650. through the resurrection

  651. of Jesus Christ

  652. from the dead.

  653. You and I have hope.

  654. Well, we can only have hope

  655. when we get to know God better

  656. because otherwise,

  657. we can't battle that fear

  658. that surrounds us.

  659. Yes, our destiny is secure.

  660. We should have that hope

  661. and carry that with us,

  662. but we're too caught up in fear.

  663. We're too caught up

  664. in getting to know

  665. everything else around us

  666. except the God

  667. who loves us

  668. and can transform our lives.

  669. 1 Peter chapter 1

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  670. and the next verse.

  671. We read verse 3 a moment ago.

  672. Into an inheritance

  673. that can never perish,

  674. spoil, or fade.

  675. Did you get that?

  676. His great mercy,

  677. He's given us new birth

  678. into this living hope

  679. because Jesus rose from the dead

  680. and into an inheritance

  681. that can never perish,

  682. spoil, or fade.

  683. How many of you guys

  684. have like a $100 million inheritance

  685. waiting on you

  686. whenever so-and-so does?

  687. I didn't think so.

  688. If you are,

  689. you need to tie it on that, okay?

  690. Our inheritance

  691. is so much better

  692. than $100 million.

  693. Our inheritance

  694. can never perish,

  695. spoil, or fade.

  696. It can't be wasted

  697. on something else.

  698. It can't have its value

  699. decrease through the stock market.

  700. Our inheritance

  701. is so much better

  702. because it is eternal.

  703. It is forever.

  704. You know what the interesting

  705. part in that?

  706. This is another blessing

  707. of knowing God.

  708. It's understanding

  709. that He is our inheritance.

  710. You know what the crazy part is?

  711. We are His inheritance.

  712. Did you see there

  713. in verse...

  714. Where was it here?

  715. Ephesians chapter 1

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  716. and verse 18.

  717. That you may know

  718. what is the hope

  719. of His calling,

  720. what is the wealth

  721. of His glorious inheritance

  722. in the saints.

  723. Do you know what

  724. Scripture teaches here

  725. and it alludes to it

  726. right here in Ephesians 1?

  727. We are His prize.

  728. Isn't that weird?

  729. It is easy for us

  730. to recognize

  731. how great and good God is.

  732. How He is our inheritance.

  733. He is our treasure.

  734. He is our prize.

  735. He's so much greater

  736. than we are.

  737. That's not hard

  738. to wrap our heads around.

  739. But it's a little wild

  740. to consider

  741. that God looks at us

  742. as the big prize

  743. that He won.

  744. We are His inheritance.

  745. And He can't wait

  746. to get us home.

  747. He is so looking forward

  748. to this joyous reunion

  749. in heaven someday

  750. when He gathers

  751. all the children

  752. into the fold.

  753. So we can take comfort

  754. in knowing

  755. that God's going

  756. to take care of us.

  757. We are His inheritance.

  758. God's got us.

  759. He loves us.

  760. He values us.

  761. He treasures us.

  762. But that's a blessing

  763. of knowing God.

  764. That's a blessing

  765. of being familiar with Him.

  766. That's a blessing

  767. of knowing His heart.

  768. Knowing His mind.

  769. Spending time with Him.

  770. Then you see

  771. how God sees you.

  772. And you see

  773. who He really is.

  774. And then finally,

  775. it talks about

  776. the blessing

  777. of knowing God

  778. is His power.

  779. The immeasurable greatness

  780. of His power

  781. toward us

  782. who believe.

  783. Folks,

  784. do you know why

  785. you may not

  786. have experienced

  787. the power of God

  788. in your life?

  789. because you may

  790. not really believe.

  791. You might not

  792. really be saved.

  793. If you died today,

  794. you might head

  795. straight to a burning hell

  796. because you've never

  797. turned from your sin

  798. and put your faith

  799. in Jesus.

  800. I'm dead serious.

  801. I will give that invitation

  802. every time I preach.

  803. and 99.9% of the time

  804. nobody walks down here

  805. but I guarantee you

  806. there are people

  807. sitting in this Sunday

  808. under the sound

  809. of my voice

  810. every week,

  811. week after week

  812. after week

  813. and they refuse

  814. to repent of their sin

  815. and put their faith

  816. in Jesus for salvation.

  817. I promise you

  818. that is true

  819. in our church.

  820. Don't start looking around

  821. and wondering who it is.

  822. Look in your own heart.

  823. Say, God,

  824. am I your child?

  825. Have I truly

  826. repented of my sin

  827. and put my faith

  828. in Jesus?

  829. Has there been

  830. visible evidence

  831. of that in my life?

  832. Do I see evidence

  833. of the Holy Spirit

  834. in my life?

  835. Because otherwise

  836. there's no power.

  837. Did you see

  838. what it said?

  839. The power is there

  840. for you who believe.

  841. believe.

  842. If you don't believe,

  843. you don't get the power.

  844. If you don't believe,

  845. you don't get the inheritance.

  846. If you don't believe,

  847. you don't get the hope.

  848. That is the blessing

  849. of knowing God.

  850. Please don't leave

  851. this room today

  852. without meeting God

  853. and getting to know Him.

  854. That's what this is all about, y'all.

  855. We can sing the songs

  856. and the choir sounds great

  857. and we can dress up nice

  858. and come and be friendly

  859. to everybody,

  860. but that is all worth nothing

  861. if you don't know Jesus.

  862. You gotta know Jesus.

  863. You gotta meet Him

  864. for the first time today.

  865. For those who do believe,

  866. we have access

  867. to unlimited power.

  868. I talked about it

  869. with the teens

  870. on Wednesday night.

  871. Jesus said,

  872. all power is given unto me

  873. so you can go

  874. with all that power

  875. because I am with you.

  876. So we have access

  877. to all His power.

  878. 2 Peter chapter 1.

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  879. His divine power

  880. has given us

  881. everything required

  882. for life and godliness.

  883. Watch this.

  884. Through the knowledge

  885. of Him

  886. who called us

  887. by His own glory

  888. and goodness.

  889. Knowing God better

  890. gives you access

  891. to His power

  892. and that's all you need

  893. for life.

  894. Everything required

  895. for life

  896. and for living

  897. how God wants you to live,

  898. living godly,

  899. is found in knowing God.

  900. You gotta know Him better.

  901. That's why we study

  902. His word.

  903. That's why we gather together.

  904. That's why we have

  905. Sunday school classes.

  906. That's why we have

  907. small groups.

  908. That's why we have

  909. ministries throughout the church.

  910. To get to know God better.

  911. We know God better

  912. by obeying Him.

  913. We know God better

  914. by coming to church,

  915. by fellowshipping

  916. with the believers,

  917. by singing songs

  918. that praise Him

  919. and talk about His goodness.

  920. We know God better.

  921. that gives us access

  922. to His power

  923. which is all we need

  924. for life.

  925. So,

  926. finally,

  927. the victory

  928. of knowing God.

  929. Those blessings

  930. of knowing God

  931. are amazing

  932. but I can promise you

  933. there is a victory

  934. in knowing God.

  935. There's a victory

  936. awaiting us.

  937. It's this theological idea

  938. of already

  939. but not yet.

  940. You understand

  941. what I'm saying?

  942. God has already

  943. sealed us.

  944. He's already secured us.

  945. He's already forgiven us

  946. and made us His children.

  947. We just haven't

  948. realized that yet.

  949. We're still trapped

  950. in this body.

  951. We're still living

  952. on this wicked earth

  953. surrounded by sin

  954. all around us

  955. but the victory

  956. is already won.

  957. Look at verse 20.

  958. He exercised this power

  959. in Christ

  960. by raising Him

  961. from the dead

  962. and seating Him

  963. in His right hand

  964. in the heavens

  965. far above every ruler

  966. and authority

  967. power and dominion

  968. and every title

  969. given not only

  970. in this age

  971. but also

  972. in the one to come

  973. and He subjected

  974. everything under His feet

  975. and He appointed Him

  976. as head

  977. over everything

  978. for the church.

  979. You want to know

  980. who's in charge

  981. of this church?

  982. Jesus is in charge

  983. of this church.

  984. He's the head

  985. of this church

  986. which is His body

  987. the fullness

  988. of the one

  989. who fills all things

  990. in every way.

  991. can I clue you in

  992. on something here?

  993. This is one of my

  994. favorite resources

  995. Wilmington's Guide

  996. to the Bible

  997. and the man

  998. who wrote this

  999. said the believer

  1000. is fighting

  1001. from a victory

  1002. not for a victory.

  1003. The victory

  1004. is already won.

  1005. That's the good news

  1006. for you this morning.

  1007. Jesus already beat death.

  1008. He conquered death.

  1009. 1 Corinthians 15

1010. says thanks be to God

1011. who gives us the victory

1012. through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1013. We are living this life

  1014. fighting this spiritual battle

1015. from a place of victory

1016. not trying to win the victory.

  1017. God's already won it.

  1018. It's here.

  1019. It's here for us

  1020. to live in

  1021. enjoy claim

  1022. every time Satan

  1023. comes after you

  1024. every time he tries

  1025. to discourage you

  1026. or attack you

  1027. with fear

  1028. or tempt you

  1029. with something

1030. you know you shouldn't do

  1031. you can say Satan

  1032. you're a beaten enemy.

  1033. God has won.

1034. I'm not going to give in

  1035. to a loser.

1036. So the takeaway this morning

  1037. is my confidence grows

  1038. as my intimate knowledge

  1039. of God grows.

  1040. My confidence grows

  1041. as my intimate knowledge

  1042. of God grows.

1043. What do we mean by this?

  1044. How does knowing God

  1045. give me confidence?

  1046. One,

  1047. I see more clearly.

  1048. We talked about

  1049. that illumination

  1050. that revelation

  1051. of seeing us

  1052. as God sees us

  1053. and seeing him

  1054. as he really is.

1055. I can see more clearly

  1056. that gives me confidence.

  1057. I have hope.

  1058. A living hope.

  1059. Jesus is alive.

  1060. My hope is real.

1061. And that gives me confidence.

  1062. And I have

  1063. and I am

  1064. God's inheritance.

1065. Boy, that should give you confidence.

  1066. You have inherited

  1067. all that God is.

  1068. We are joint heirs

  1069. co-equal

  1070. with

1071. the Son of God himself

  1072. Jesus.

  1073. We are joint heirs

  1074. with Christ.

  1075. And then God

  1076. sees us

  1077. as his inheritance.

1078. Talk about a confidence builder.

1079. God values you so much

1080. and then I have power.

  1081. I have all power

  1082. that God has.

1083. The Holy Spirit of God

  1084. walks with me,

1085. prepares the path for me,

  1086. protects me,

  1087. guides me

1088. if I'll listen to him.

1089. I have all that power

1090. and I already have the victory.

  1091. These are confidence builders

1092. that can go with us

1093. every step of the way.

  1094. 2 Timothy chapter 2

    2 Timothy 2 chapter mention

1095. the last book of the Bible

  1096. that Paul wrote

1097. that we have record of.

  1098. He says,

  1099. I'm not ashamed.

1100. It's toward the end of his life.

  1101. He said,

  1102. I know whom I have believed

  1103. and I'm persuaded

  1104. that he is able

  1105. to keep

1106. what I have committed to him

  1107. until that day.

  1108. You see the confidence

  1109. oozing through that?

  1110. You see the confidence

  1111. that Paul had?

  1112. I know

  1113. who I've believed in

  1114. and I am absolutely

  1115. persuaded

  1116. that he will keep

1117. what I have committed to him

  1118. until that day.

  1119. What kind of confidence

  1120. do you have?

  1121. Here's the real question.

1122. How well do you really know God?

1123. There is a direct link.

  1124. There's a direct correlation

1125. between how well you know God

  1126. and your confidence level

  1127. as a Christian.

  1128. If you're shaky,

1129. you're beaten up by fear,

  1130. tossed to and fro,

  1131. insecurity,

  1132. uncertainty,

1133. you need to get to know God better.

1134. God is the answer to that.

  1135. His power,

  1136. his hope,

  1137. his inheritance,

  1138. all these

  1139. can soothe those fears.

1140. All these can reassure you.

1141. But you've got to get to know him.

1142. You've got to spend time with him.

1143. You've got to get to know him intimately.

1144. And you can recognize him in the world.

  1145. You can see,

  1146. that's from God.

  1147. That's from God.

  1148. Hebrews 4,

  1149. let us then approach

  1150. God's throne of grace

  1151. with confidence

1152. so that we may receive mercy

  1153. and find grace

  1154. to help us

1155. in our time of need.

  1156. We can approach God

  1157. with confidence.

  1158. Okay?

  1159. We're talking about a daily activity,

  1160. a daily approach.

1161. Getting down on your knees,

  1162. maybe even lying prostrate

  1163. if you need to,

  1164. on your face

  1165. before God.

  1166. spending time

  1167. getting to know him.

  1168. Sometimes just being quiet

  1169. and listening to him.

  1170. Waiting to see

  1171. what those thoughts

  1172. and burdens

  1173. and prayers

1174. that he puts into your heart.

  1175. Opening up his word

  1176. and seeing

1177. what he's already said to us.

  1178. And then rising up

  1179. and walking with him

  1180. in confidence.

1181. We can daily approach him

  1182. with confidence.

1183. We can run into the king's court.

1184. We can run up to his throne

  1185. and take

  1186. all of his time

  1187. at any moment.

  1188. You understand?

  1189. My confidence grows

  1190. as my intimate knowledge

  1191. of God grows.

1192. Would you bow your heads with me?

1193. God, I ask that you would

  1194. increase our confidence,

  1195. that you would increase

  1196. our knowledge of you.

  1197. There might be somebody

  1198. in here this morning

1199. who needs to meet you

  1200. for the first time.

  1201. So right now,

1202. while our heads are bowed,

1203. I'm going to ask this question

1204. like I do every week.

1205. If you don't know Jesus

  1206. as your savior

1207. and you know today's the day

1208. you need to repent of your sin,

  1209. turn from it

  1210. and turn to Jesus,

1211. would you slip your hand up

  1212. real quick, please?

1213. Would you slip your hand up?

  1214. Thank you.

1215. Let me ask this question.

1216. How many of you might say

  1217. that

  1218. I need to be a more

  1219. confident Christian,

1220. which means I need to get

  1221. to know God better?

1222. I need to change my view of God,

  1223. get to know him

1224. in the way that the Bible

  1225. actually portrays him,

  1226. not other people.

1227. Tell me what he is.

1228. I need to get to know him

  1229. for myself.

1230. How many of you would say

  1231. that's me,

1232. I need to build my confidence

1233. and get to know God better?

  1234. Thank you, thank you,

  1235. thank you.

1236. How many of you would say

1237. that fear has been attacking me?

  1238. And that's something

  1239. I need prayer for.

  1240. Fear has been coming

  1241. after me.

1242. Would you slip your hand up

  1243. real quick?

  1244. I'll pray for you.

  1245. Thank you, thank you.

1246. God, you see these hands

1247. and you know every other question

1248. that I could have asked

1249. and you know the answers.

1250. I pray that you would work

1251. at our hearts this morning,

1252. that nobody would leave this room

1253. having a false relationship with you,

1254. that nobody would leave this room

  1255. still trusting in themselves,

1256. that nobody would leave this room

1257. thinking that you don't love them,

1258. you don't care about them.

  1259. God, you've told us

  1260. exactly the opposite

1261. and you prove it time and time again

  1262. in our lives

1263. and those who haven't experienced that,

1264. I pray that they would get

  1265. to know you better,

  1266. that they would learn

  1267. what is that power,

  1268. what is that hope,

  1269. what is that inheritance

1270. that is found in you.

1271. It's in Jesus' name we pray.

  1272. Amen.

1273. We're going to have just a moment.

  1274. Amen.
