  1. All right, y'all love the book of Ephesians?

  2. Amen, I do too.

  3. It is full of just spiritual meat,

  4. and I am loving diving into it in my study

  5. and then sharing what God gives me for you all.

  6. So let's go there.

  7. Let's go to Ephesians chapter two.

  8. Once again, this book is about who we are and how we live,

  9. and right now we are in the who we are part.

  10. So that's exciting.

  11. We're discovering our identity in Christ,

  12. not according to what man says about us,

  13. but according to what we read in God's word,

  14. what he says about us.

  15. So that's what we're talking about today.

  16. Book of Ephesians chapter two,

  17. we did the first 11 verses,

  18. I'm sorry, 10 verses last Sunday,

  19. and today we are doing verses 11

  20. through the end of the chapter.

  21. For some reason, this isn't working, Floyd.

  22. There we go, there we go.

  23. Just needed a minute.

  24. Kind of like me when I first wake up,

  25. so that's good.

  26. It just needs a minute sometimes.

  27. Much of our series is taken from the Christ-centered exposition,

  28. Exalting Jesus in Ephesians by Tony Merida,

  29. and that's a great series to avail yourself of

  30. if you ever have an opportunity.

  31. The background of the book of Ephesians,

  32. written by the Apostle Paul to the church in Ephesus

  33. where he had pastored for three years,

  34. and he was written under house arrest in Roman imprisonment

  35. off in Rome far away from this church in Ephesus,

  36. and it was delivered by courier to this church

  37. and then passed around to many other early churches

  38. back in those days.

  39. The breakdown is the first three chapters,

  40. who we are in Christ,

  41. the next three chapters,

  42. how we live for Christ.

  43. So today, we're continuing our series

  44. on who we are in Christ.

  45. If you see in your bulletin,

  46. there's some blanks to fill out,

  47. and so try to follow along,

  48. and you can fill in those blanks

  49. and take that home and look that over later

  50. if you'd like to.

  51. Ephesians chapter 2,

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  52. beginning in verse 11.

  53. If you're able to physically,

  54. would you mind joining me in standing,

  55. and we'll read beginning in verse 11.

  56. I'm reading from the Christian Standard Bible.

  57. So then, remember that at one time,

  58. you were Gentiles in the flesh.

  59. It is safe for us to place ourselves

  60. into this you umbrella, all right?

  61. This was written to the church in Ephesus,

  62. but it was written for all the early church Christians,

  63. and God included it in our New Testament

  64. for all of us to benefit from

  65. so we can place ourselves into that you

  66. that this is written to.

  67. So then, remember that at one time,

  68. you were Gentiles in the flesh,

  69. called the uncircumcised,

  70. by those called the circumcised,

  71. which is done in the flesh by human hands.

  72. At that time, you were without Christ,

  73. excluded from the citizenship of Israel,

  74. foreigners to the covenants of promise,

  75. without hope and without God in the world.

  76. But now, in Christ Jesus,

  77. you see a parallel there?

  78. Back earlier in the first part of chapter 2,

  79. when it talked about you previously

  80. followed the ways of the world,

  81. according to the ruler, the power of the air,

  82. the spirit, work, and the disobedient,

  83. you were children of wrath,

  84. but then in verse 4 it said,

  85. but God, who is rich in mercy,

  86. made us alive.

  87. There is a direct parallel between that,

  88. and again, how he emphasizes this point,

  89. drives it home for us,

  90. here in verse 13.

  91. But now, in Christ Jesus,

  92. you, who were far away,

  93. have been brought near by the blood of Christ.

  94. For he is our peace,

  95. who made both groups one,

  96. and tore down the dividing wall of hostility.

  97. In his flesh,

  98. he made of no effect the law consisting of commands

  99. and expressed in regulations,

  100. so that he might create in himself

  101. one new man from the two,

  102. resulting in peace.

  103. He did this so that he might reconcile both

  104. to God in one body,

  105. through the cross,

  106. by which he put the hostility to death.

  107. He came and proclaimed the good news of peace

  108. to you who were far away,

  109. and peace to those who were near.

  110. For through him,

  111. we both have access in one spirit to the Father.

  112. So then you are no longer foreigners and strangers,

  113. but now fellow citizens with the saints,

  114. and members of God's household,

  115. built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets

  116. with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone.

  117. In him,

  118. the whole building being put together

  119. grows into a holy temple in the Lord.

  120. In him,

  121. you are also being built together

  122. for God's dwelling in the Spirit.

  123. Let's pray together.

  124. God, I pray that you would speak to us

  125. from Ephesians 2,

  126. the latter part of that chapter.

  127. I pray that you would drive this home,

  128. that you are a God of peace.

  129. You are a God of uniting.

  130. You are a God of tearing down the walls,

  131. reaching across the lines.

  132. And we have benefited so greatly from that.

  133. And it's in Jesus' name we pray.

  134. Amen.

  135. You may be seated.

  136. Who we are in Christ,

  137. our collective identity.

  138. So,

  139. let's look at it.

  140. Our collective identity.

  141. Sorry, y'all.

  142. I don't know why it's like that.

  143. I think there was some weird way I made the slide,

  144. and you know,

  145. that's on me.

  146. But you're just gonna have to,

  147. you know,

  148. look a little closer.

  149. Like,

  150. what is that again?

  151. Our collective identity.

  152. All right?

  153. This is who we are together.

  154. Now,

  155. this is not

  156. our collective identity.

  157. This is not who we are together.

  158. These are adversaries,

  159. right?

  160. What do we have here on the left?

  161. Come on, y'all.

  162. Let's get a little more audience participation.

  163. This is the talkback time,

  164. okay?

  165. On the left,

  166. what do we have?

  167. Democrats.

  168. There you go.

  169. On the right,

  170. we have

  171. Republicans.

  172. That's right.

  173. Some of the kids

  174. who maybe haven't studied

  175. and learned these party animals,

  176. so to speak,

  177. they're looking at it like,

  178. what are they talking about?

  179. That's a donkey

  180. and an elephant.

  181. Very patriotic looking

  182. and angry at each other.

  183. Well,

  184. there you go.

  185. That's our country,

  186. right?

  187. We divide.

  188. We pit ourselves

  189. against one another,

  190. and throughout the time,

  191. Democrats and Republicans

  192. have even stood

  193. for different things

  194. throughout the years,

  195. and so,

  196. you know,

  197. a hundred years ago,

  198. you might have,

  199. if you call yourself

  200. Republican today,

  201. who knows,

  202. you might have been

  203. a Democrat back then.

  204. Man can change his mind

  205. about things,

  206. but what he doesn't seem

  207. to change his mind about

  208. is arguing with others.

  209. That's what we continue to do.

  210. Regardless of what we think,

  211. we find somebody

  212. who doesn't think like us,

  213. and we argue against them,

  214. and if we don't find,

  215. if we don't have somebody

  216. near and close

  217. who disagrees with us,

  218. we'll go out

  219. and find somebody

  220. who disagrees with us,

  221. and that's what

  222. the Internet's for.

  223. If you were wondering

  224. why the Internet was invented,

  225. it's a platform

  226. for disagreement

  227. and fighting,

  228. so,

  229. and it fulfills

  230. its purpose very well.

  231. Obviously,

  232. there's a little sarcasm

  233. in there,

  234. but there's some less,

  235. you know,

  236. I don't know,

  237. less intense.

  238. That's pretty intense

  239. right there.

  240. Rivalries out there.

  241. Astros and Rangers,

  242. we got any Astros fans

  243. in the house?

  244. Woo!

  245. That are willing

  246. to identify

  247. as Astro fans right now?

  248. How about the Rangers fans?

  249. Let's go!

  250. Yeah!

  251. The,

  252. sorry,

  253. I shouldn't just say Rangers.

  254. I should always say

  255. world champion Rangers.

  256. There you go.

  257. Anybody actually

  258. go to that parade?

  259. No.

  260. Yeah.

  261. I was in Dallas

  262. on the day

  263. of the parade,

  264. and I consciously

  265. chose not to go.

  266. It's like,

  267. look,

  268. I love my Rangers,

  269. but no.

  270. That was a madhouse.

  271. About 700,000 people,

  272. I think,

  273. gathered down there.

  274. Look,

  275. Astros have had

  276. a great run.

  277. They've won

  278. a couple of World Series,

  279. so we're going to have

  280. this rivalry

  281. for years to come.

  282. But,

  283. you know,

  284. we're pitted

  285. against one another

  286. in the same division.

  287. We'll play each other.

  288. How about this one?

  289. Red River rivalry?

  290. Got any Sooner fans

  291. in here?

  292. Thank God.

  293. Got any Longhorn fans?

  294. Let's go.

  295. Come on.

  296. Yes.

  297. Y'all got us this year,

  298. but overall,

  299. we've had a far better season,

  300. so let's see what happens.

  301. That's the thing.

  302. You never know

  303. what's going to happen

  304. in these rivalries.

  305. People get up for them.

  306. They feel emotional about them.

  307. You know?

  308. Oklahoma turned around

  309. and lost to Kansas

  310. and somebody else

  311. that they shouldn't have

  312. lost to right after that.

  313. So,

  314. clearly,

  315. Texas was the better team,

  316. but why did they lose?

  317. Why did they lose that game?

  318. Because it's the Red River rivalry

  319. because you never know

  320. what's going to happen.

  321. One team could be ranked

  322. in the top five

  323. and the other one

  324. have a losing record

  325. and the losing record

  326. comes in and wins that game

  327. because everybody gets emotional.

  328. They get worked up.

  329. They get hyped up

  330. and they go out

  331. and play better

  332. than they usually would otherwise.

  333. And that's what happens sometimes

  334. with these rivalries

  335. because we get emotional about it.

  336. We get passionate about it.

  337. We pit ourselves

  338. against one another.

  339. How about this one?

  340. We're not going to talk

  341. about what happened this year,

  342. but we'll get them next year,

  343. all right?

  344. So,

  345. don't worry about it.

  346. But y'all understand

  347. we've got these rivalries.

  348. We draw lines.

  349. We draw dividing lines.

  350. It's what we do.

  351. We'll always do it.

  352. I skipped one

  353. and I want to get to it.

  354. From the history of our country,

  355. we did it.

  356. We drew dividing lines.

  357. We fought a war over it.

  358. It's who we are as people.

  359. And so,

  360. man draws dividing lines.

  361. God erases them.

  362. God erases them.

  363. You know what divides us ultimately?

  364. Sin.

  365. Sin is what divides us ultimately.

  366. Now,

  367. we can have fun

  368. and we can choose

  369. different sports teams

  370. and root against the other one

  371. and cheer for ours.

  372. But there are very real fractures,

  373. very real dividing lines

  374. in our country,

  375. across our world,

  376. and sin is the cause.

  377. 100% of the time.

  378. God created no dividing lines

  379. in the Garden of Eden.

  380. But sin divided us.

  381. Sin divided Cain and Abel.

  382. Sin divided all these countries

  383. that have gone to war.

  384. Sin divided the Gentiles

  385. and the Jews.

  386. Sin divided those who would follow God

  387. and those who would oppose God.

  388. Sin divided all these lines.

  389. And God steps in and says,

  390. I am the answer to the division.

  391. I am the solution.

  392. So,

  393. number one,

  394. excluded.

  395. Excluded.

  396. What we are without Jesus.

  397. We read about this in verse 11.

  398. So then,

  399. remember that at one time

  400. you were Gentiles in the flesh,

  401. called the uncircumcised,

  402. quote on quote.

  403. There's two different groups here.

  404. The uncircumcised,

  405. the circumcised.

  406. Without diving into the,

  407. you know,

  408. medical procedures of all that,

  409. back then the Jews

  410. were the only ones

  411. who practiced circumcision.

  412. Which nowadays

  413. happens right after a baby is born

  414. and is common practice

  415. across the United States

  416. and around the world

  417. because they see the health benefits

  418. in that.

  419. But this procedure

  420. divided people.

  421. You were part of the circumcised Jews

  422. or the uncircumcised Philistines

  423. or Gentiles.

  424. And so,

  425. that was done in the flesh

  426. by human hands.

  427. But,

  428. at that time,

  429. there was a real exclusion happening.

  430. There was a real dividing line.

  431. There were those

  432. who followed Jesus

  433. and there were those

  434. who were without Christ.

  435. Excluded,

  436. verse 12 says.

  437. Excluded from the citizenship

  438. of Israel.

  439. Foreigners to the covenants

  440. of promise.

  441. God made all these promises

  442. in the Old Testament.

  443. He made all these covenants.

  444. He said,

  445. I will be with you.

  446. I will be your God.

  447. You will be my people.

  448. And those of us Gentiles

  449. were excluded from that.

  450. Foreigners to that.

  451. Without hope

  452. and without God.

  453. Now,

  454. we had all kinds of things

  455. that we would call God.

  456. Throughout time,

  457. Gentiles have had all sorts of things

  458. that they would call God.

  459. They'll make up their own.

  460. They'll build idols.

  461. They'll make their own passions

  462. and goals

  463. and desires

  464. and the objects

  465. of their love

  466. and affection.

  467. They'll raise them

  468. to the status of God.

  469. So we'll do all kinds of things

  470. but in reality,

  471. we are without God.

  472. So,

  473. we were excluded.

  474. Ephesians 4.18,

  475. a couple chapters later,

  476. it says,

  477. they're darkened

  478. in their understanding,

  479. excluded

  480. from the life

  481. of God

  482. because of the ignorance

  483. that's in them,

  484. the hardness

  485. of their hearts.

  486. That is a reminder

  487. of who we are

  488. without God.

  489. We are ignorant

  490. and have hard hearts.

  491. That's us.

  492. God is the only one

  493. that can impart

  494. true wisdom

  495. and understanding

  496. to us.

  497. God is the only one

  498. that can soften our hearts.

  499. God's the only one

  500. that can make us

  501. nice.

  502. God's the only one

  503. that can make us

  504. lovable.

  505. God's the only one

  506. that can make us

  507. good and righteous.

  508. And so,

  509. apart from him,

  510. we are excluded

  511. from God's life.

  512. Why were we excluded?

  513. Excluded.

  514. We were without Christ,

  515. without Jesus.

  516. He's the answer.

  517. He's the Savior.

  518. He's the only way.

  519. So if you don't have him,

  520. you're excluded.

  521. We are without citizenship.

  522. We had citizenship

  523. of the world,

  524. but we were without

  525. citizenship

  526. in God's kingdom.

  527. All throughout the parable,

  528. you see Jesus

  529. constantly making reference

  530. to the kingdom of God.

  531. Right?

  532. Jesus says,

  533. the kingdom of God

  534. is like this,

  535. and he tells a parable.

  536. The kingdom of God

  537. is like this.

  538. He came to build

  539. his kingdom on earth,

  540. but we were excluded

  541. from that kingdom

  542. until he made a way

  543. to have citizenship.

  544. We've got some people

  545. who recently gained

  546. citizenship

  547. to the United States

  548. right down front here.

  549. Yeah.

  550. That's exciting,

  551. isn't it?

  552. I didn't mean

  553. to call him out

  554. this morning at all.

  555. I'm trying to embarrass him,

  556. but I'm on the spot.

  557. But that is such

  558. an exciting thing

  559. when you gain citizenship

  560. that you're seeking.

  561. But my goodness,

  562. it doesn't,

  563. it pales in comparison

  564. to gaining citizenship

  565. into God's heavenly kingdom.

  566. And we're excluded

  567. from that,

  568. apart from Christ.

  569. We're without hope.

  570. We have no hope.

  571. Then verse 12,

  572. that's what it said,

  573. without hope

  574. and without God.

  575. And those two

  576. are linked together.

  577. Man, if you have,

  578. if you don't have God,

  579. you have no hope.

  580. That's why there's

  581. so much suicide out there.

  582. There's why there's

  583. so much depression out there.

  584. That's why there's

  585. so much hopelessness out there.

  586. That's why there's

  587. so much anger.

  588. People lashing out

  589. because they don't have

  590. a life.

  591. You ever heard somebody

  592. tell you to get a life?

  593. I've had people tell me

  594. to get a life before.

  595. We have a life.

  596. We have something

  597. to live for.

  598. We have a reason

  599. to keep going

  600. if we have God.

  601. If we have no God,

  602. then what's this

  603. ultimately about?

  604. Who ultimately gets to say

  605. what's right or wrong?

  606. Who ultimately gets to say

  607. what our lives

  608. should be about?

  609. Unless God is real,

  610. God is true,

  611. God exists,

  612. and He's here for us.

  613. So we're excluded

  614. without Christ,

  615. without citizenship,

  616. without hope,

  617. and without God.

  618. But that's not

  619. where He leaves us.

  620. Number two,

  621. reconciled.

  622. This is what Jesus

  623. does for us.

  624. Verse 13,

  625. now in Christ Jesus,

  626. you who were far away

  627. have been brought near

  628. by the blood of Christ.

  629. Okay?

  630. So that's what Jesus

  631. does for us.

  632. All the way down

  633. through verse 18,

  634. He talks about how

  635. He can reconcile us.

  636. How does He do it?

  637. Verse 14,

  638. the second part here,

  639. it says He tears down walls.

  640. He tore down

  641. the dividing wall

  642. of hostility.

  643. This is what man does.

  644. Man builds up walls.

  645. We build up walls

  646. around our own hearts,

  647. right?

  648. And we don't let people in.

  649. We build up walls

  650. between countries,

  651. and we don't let people in.

  652. We build up walls

  653. around ourselves

  654. and our houses,

  655. and we don't let people in.

  656. We build up privacy fences.

  657. We put up walls

  658. everywhere we go.

  659. Why?

  660. Because we don't trust people.

  661. Sometimes,

  662. a lot of times,

  663. with good reason.

  664. Right?

  665. But God is there

  666. to tear down walls.

  667. He's not saying

  668. you need to go home

  669. and tear down your fence

  670. and open the door

  671. to your house

  672. and say,

  673. everybody come on in.

  674. That's a good way

  675. to lose all your stuff

  676. and maybe worse.

  677. But,

  678. hey,

  679. Floyd,

  680. I'm going to switch

  681. to this handheld.

  682. Sorry, man.

  683. This thing's not staying put.

  684. Check, check.

  685. Y'all hear me?

  686. There we go.

  687. All right,

  688. this will work.

  689. This will work a lot better.

  690. So,

  691. God

  692. tears down those walls

  693. that we build.

  694. He did it with sin.

  695. He tore down

  696. the wall

  697. through his death

  698. on the cross.

  699. Now,

  700. he didn't just go

  701. and say,

  702. sin's okay.

  703. The things you have done

  704. are okay now.

  705. I'm changing the rules

  706. and you're no longer

  707. in trouble.

  708. That's not what he did.

  709. Sin is wicked.

  710. Sin is terrible.

  711. And something had

  712. to be done about it.

  713. A punishment

  714. had to be made.

  715. A sacrifice

  716. had to be made.

  717. Jesus made that sacrifice.

  718. He took the punishment.

  719. So,

  720. then he said,

  721. I can tear down

  722. the wall now.

  723. So,

  724. now you can get

  725. to God

  726. because of me.

  727. Jesus abolishes

  728. legalism.

  729. Verse 15,

  730. he made of no effect

  731. the law

  732. consisting of commands

  733. and expressed

  734. in regulations.

  735. You understand

  736. what he's talking

  737. about there?

  738. All those

  739. Old Testament commands,

  740. many of which

  741. God gave to

  742. humanity himself.

  743. He gave them

  744. to his people

  745. and established them

  746. and then Jesus

  747. abolished

  748. the legalism.

  749. That's what was needed

  750. for that time

  751. to show us

  752. how freedom

  753. in Christ

  754. would look.

  755. How exciting

  756. and wonderful

  757. it would be

  758. when grace

  759. replaced

  760. the law.

  761. You and I

  762. cannot exist

  763. by the law.

  764. You and I

  765. can't keep the law.

  766. We can't follow it.

  767. So,

  768. I don't know about you

  769. but I'm a pretty good person.

  770. You're not good enough.

  771. If you fail the point,

  772. if you fail the law

  773. in one point,

  774. you've failed it all.

  775. If you've broken

  776. the law

  777. in one area,

  778. you've broken it all.

  779. You're guilty

  780. and you deserve

  781. punishment

  782. for your sin.

  783. So,

  784. Jesus said,

  785. that's not the way

  786. to God

  787. and we don't need

  788. to operate

  789. that way

  790. as people

  791. of God.

  792. Sometimes,

  793. Christians have done

  794. a poor job of that.

  795. Sometimes,

  796. we've carried on

  797. legalistic practices

  798. as though

  799. the law

  800. was still

  801. the way

  802. to God.

  803. Sometimes,

  804. we'll preach

  805. grace.

  806. We'll preach

  807. salvation by grace

  808. through faith

  809. in Jesus

  810. and yet,

  811. we don't actually

  812. live that way

  813. where that grace

  814. speaks louder

  815. than the laws

  816. we inflict upon people.

  817. So,

  818. we must be

  819. very careful

  820. as a church,

  821. as the people of God,

  822. to be people

  823. of grace,

  824. people of love,

  825. people of compassion,

  826. people of mercy

  827. because that's

  828. how God treats us.

  829. I grew up

  830. around a lot

  831. of churches

  832. in kind of a movement

  833. that went really far

  834. into legalism.

  835. You know,

  836. there was only

  837. one version

  838. of the Bible

  839. you could use.

  840. There was only

  841. one type of music

  842. that was acceptable.

  843. There was only

  844. one type of dress

  845. that was acceptable.

  846. You know,

  847. you take it

  848. as far as you want

  849. to go,

  850. but we kept

  851. moving the needle

  852. on what was

  853. acceptable

  854. in God's eyes

  855. regardless of

  856. whether God

  857. actually said

  858. anything about it

  859. in the Bible.

  860. And that's not

  861. the Jesus

  862. that came

  863. to seek

  864. and save

  865. the lost.

  866. That's not

  867. the Jesus

  868. that abolished

  869. legalism.

  870. Instead,

  871. that Jesus

  872. preached peace.

  873. Preached peace.

  874. That first part

  875. of verse 14.

  876. He is

  877. our peace.

  878. And then jump

  879. down to verse 17.

  880. He came

  881. and proclaimed

  882. the good news

  883. of peace

  884. to you

  885. who were far away

  886. and peace

  887. to those

  888. who were near.

  889. That's what

  890. Jesus does.

  891. He came

  892. to preach peace.

  893. We're coming

  894. into the Christmas

  895. season.

  896. We're going

  897. to sing songs

  898. all about

  899. the Prince

  900. of Peace,

  901. about how

  902. Jesus came

  903. to bring peace

  904. on earth.

  905. Jesus

  906. didn't come

  907. just to bring

  908. peace on earth.

  909. The truth is

  910. there's never

  911. ultimately going

  912. to be peace

  913. on earth.

  914. Jesus came

  915. to bring peace

  916. to the earth

  917. through him.

  918. He is the only

  919. way to have

  920. peace on this

  921. earth.

  922. But we're not

  923. going to stay

  924. here.

  925. Eventually,

  926. we're going

  927. to get to go

  928. up and be

  929. with him

  930. forever in

  931. heaven.

  932. So yes,

  933. he said,

  934. I came

  935. to bring

  936. peace on

  937. earth and

  938. have good

  939. will toward

  940. men,

  941. but that's

  942. only found

  943. in him.

  944. And someday,

  945. this earth

  946. will be

  947. destroyed.

  948. We read

  949. about it

  950. in the book

  951. of Revelation.

  952. Lanny's

  953. teaching about

  954. it on Wednesday

  955. nights in the

  956. book of Revelation,

  957. but someday,

  958. this earth's

  959. going to go

  960. away.

  961. God's going

  962. to start

  963. over with

  964. a new

  965. heaven and

  966. a new

  967. earth,

  968. and there

  969. will be

  970. peace.

  971. But until

  972. then,

  973. he is the

  974. Prince of

  975. Peace for

  976. us.

  977. He preaches

  978. the gospel

  979. of peace,

  980. and he's

  981. given us

  982. that gospel

  983. of peace

  984. to go

  985. preach to

  986. others.

  987. Isn't it

  988. good that

  989. we have

  990. a message

  991. of peace?

  992. You know,

  993. we're not

  994. the terrorists

  995. who are going

  996. around trying

  997. to recruit

  998. people to

  999. a message

  1000. of war

  1001. and hate.

  1002. We have

  1003. a message

  1004. of peace.

  1005. We have

  1006. a message

  1007. of love.

  1008. We have

  1009. a message

  1010. of grace.

  1011. That's what

  1012. we get

  1013. to go tell

  1014. people about.

  1015. The good

  1016. news.

  1017. That's why

  1018. we call

  1019. it the gospel.

  1020. That's why

  1021. we call

  1022. it the good

  1023. news.

  1024. It's not

  1025. bad news

  1026. you're going

  1027. to be

  1028. a way

  1029. out of it.

  1030. You're

  1031. just giving

  1032. them a way

  1033. out of it.

  1034. You're giving

  1035. them a way

  1036. of escape.

  1037. You're giving

  1038. them a way

  1039. of deliverance

  1040. and freedom.

  1041. And Jesus

  1042. gives access

  1043. to God.

  1044. Verse 18,

  1045. for through

  1046. him we

  1047. both,

  1048. Israelites,

  1049. Gentiles,

  1050. the people

  1051. that God

  1052. chose and

  1053. all the rest

  1054. of us,

  1055. we both

  1056. have access

  1057. in one

  1058. spirit,

  1059. the Holy

  1060. Spirit,

  1061. to the

  1062. Father.

  1063. So,

  1064. he gives

  1065. access to

  1066. God.

  1067. Now,

  1068. there we

  1069. go.

  1070. I want

  1071. to read

  1072. this to

  1073. you guys.

  1074. James

  1075. Denny was

  1076. a Scottish

  1077. theologian.

  1078. He says,

  1079. the cross,

  1080. the cross

  1081. of Jesus

  1082. is the

  1083. meeting

  1084. place not

  1085. only of

  1086. God and

  1087. man,

  1088. but of

  1089. all races,

  1090. all conditions

  1091. of men

  1092. with each

  1093. other.

  1094. There's

  1095. neither

  1096. Greek nor

  1097. Jew,

  1098. male nor

  1099. female,

  1100. bond,

  1101. meaning

  1102. slaves,

  1103. nor free.

  1104. The cross

  1105. is the

  1106. basis of

  1107. a universal

  1108. religion and

  1109. has in it

  1110. the hope

  1111. of a universal

  1112. peace.

  1113. You understand

  1114. that?

  1115. Of all the

  1116. Christian truths

  1117. which are

  1118. confessed in

  1119. words,

  1120. this is the

  1121. one.

  1122. The one that

  1123. the cross is

  1124. the basis of

  1125. a universal

  1126. religion has

  1127. this idea of

  1128. the universal

  1129. peace.

  1130. this is the

  1131. Christian truth

  1132. which is most

  1133. outrageously

  1134. denied

  1135. indeed.

  1136. There's not a

  1137. Christian church

  1138. in the world

  1139. which believes

  1140. heartily in

  1141. the atonement.

  1142. You understand

  1143. we're saying

  1144. the atonement,

  1145. Jesus' death

  1146. on the cross

  1147. which took

  1148. the place

  1149. for us

  1150. in that

  1151. atonement

  1152. as the

  1153. extinction

  1154. of privilege

  1155. and the

  1156. leveling up

  1157. of all

  1158. men

  1159. to the

  1160. same

  1161. possibility

  1162. of life

  1163. in Christ

  1164. to the

  1165. same

  1166. calling

  1167. to be

  1168. saints.

  1169. The spirit

  1170. of privilege

  1171. if you're not

  1172. tracking with me

  1173. yet,

  1174. watch this

  1175. last sentence.

  1176. The spirit

  1177. of privilege

  1178. in spite

  1179. of the

  1180. cross

  1181. is obstinately

  1182. rooted

  1183. everywhere

  1184. even among

  1185. Christians.

  1186. It's calling

  1187. us out a little

  1188. bit.

  1189. Okay?

  1190. You understand

  1191. what he's

  1192. saying?

  1193. We have

  1194. this idea

  1195. of privilege

  1196. privilege

  1197. just like

  1198. the Jews

  1199. had

  1200. when they

  1201. were the

  1202. circumcised

  1203. and they're

  1204. looking down

  1205. on everybody

  1206. who's not

  1207. circumcised.

  1208. Paul deals

  1209. with it

  1210. all throughout

  1211. the New Testament

  1212. letters to

  1213. those early

  1214. churches.

  1215. You and I

  1216. have the same

  1217. spirit of

  1218. privilege

  1219. that puts

  1220. us up

  1221. above everybody

  1222. else and looks

  1223. down our noses

  1224. at everybody

  1225. else.

  1226. Why?

  1227. Because we

  1228. draw dividing

  1229. lines.

  1230. It's what we

  1231. do.

  1232. We love our

  1233. rivalries.

  1234. We love our

  1235. this is our

  1236. tribe,

  1237. this is our

  1238. crowd and

  1239. you can't

  1240. sit with

  1241. us.

  1242. That's what

  1243. we do.

  1244. And God

  1245. is God

  1246. continually

  1247. having to

  1248. remind us

  1249. that that's

  1250. not who

  1251. he is.

  1252. He tears

  1253. down those

  1254. walls.

  1255. He blurs

  1256. those dividing

  1257. lines.

  1258. And so it's

  1259. absolutely

  1260. essential for

  1261. the people

  1262. of God to

  1263. be reconciled

  1264. to God and

  1265. to one another.

  1266. And that's

  1267. what we come

  1268. to on the

  1269. last point

  1270. here,

  1271. unified.

  1272. What Jesus

  1273. saved us to

  1274. become.

  1275. We are to

  1276. become unified

  1277. in him.

  1278. Because he

  1279. tears down

  1280. the walls,

  1281. because he

  1282. has reconciled

  1283. us to

  1284. himself,

  1285. we now have

  1286. this common

  1287. bond,

  1288. which is more

  1289. important than

  1290. any other

  1291. division that

  1292. we find between

  1293. ourselves.

  1294. Our common

  1295. bond and

  1296. reconciled with

  1297. God is what

  1298. can unify us

  1299. despite our

  1300. differences.

  1301. promises.

  1302. So,

  1303. what are we

  1304. talking about?

  1305. We're

  1306. citizens of

  1307. the same

  1308. kingdom.

  1309. Citizens of

  1310. the same

  1311. kingdom.

  1312. Look at

  1313. verse 19.

  1314. So then,

  1315. you are no

  1316. longer citizens

  1317. with the

  1318. saints,

  1319. but members

  1320. of God's

  1321. household.

  1322. So,

  1323. we live

  1324. together,

  1325. okay?

  1326. We live

  1327. together in

  1328. the household

  1329. of God.

  1330. Now,

  1331. sure,

  1332. we all have

  1333. our own

  1334. houses that

  1335. we go to.

  1336. we don't

  1337. all wake up

  1338. in the morning

  1339. and see each

  1340. other at the

  1341. breakfast table.

  1342. But we are

  1343. all members

  1344. of the same

  1345. household,

  1346. and so these

  1347. truths should

  1348. bind us

  1349. together because

  1350. we realize we

  1351. are citizens of

  1352. the same

  1353. kingdom,

  1354. not an

  1355. earthly kingdom,

  1356. a heavenly

  1357. kingdom.

  1358. And that is

  1359. far more

  1360. important than

  1361. the earthly

  1362. kingdom.

  1363. today,

  1364. we have

  1365. people that

  1366. went and

  1367. literally paid

  1368. the ultimate

  1369. sacrifice to

  1370. keep us free

  1371. here in

  1372. America.

  1373. But you

  1374. know what the

  1375. ultimate example

  1376. of that is?

  1377. Jesus paid the

  1378. ultimate sacrifice

  1379. to give us

  1380. freedom that we

  1381. could never

  1382. achieve and no

  1383. one else could

  1384. ever find for

  1385. us.

  1386. No one else

  1387. could ever pay

  1388. that penalty.

  1389. No one else

  1390. could ever make

  1391. that level of

  1392. sacrifice for

  1393. us, but

  1394. Jesus made

  1395. it.

  1396. That is what

  1397. gives us

  1398. freedom at the

  1399. spiritual level

  1400. in the heavenly

  1401. kingdom, not

  1402. this earthly

  1403. kingdom.

  1404. So we're

  1405. citizens of

  1406. the same

  1407. kingdom.

  1408. Philippians

    Philippians 3 chapter mention

  1409. chapter 3

  1410. and verse 20

  1411. talks about

  1412. that.

  1413. Our

  1414. citizenship,

  1415. lest we

  1416. forget, is

  1417. in heaven.

  1418. And we

  1419. eagerly wait

  1420. for a savior

  1421. from there,

  1422. the Lord

  1423. Jesus Christ.

  1424. You know, I

  1425. fly my flag on

  1426. 4th of July.

  1427. I'm proud to be

  1428. an American, and

  1429. I got to see

  1430. Lee Greenwood

  1431. seen that live

  1432. at a Dallas

  1433. Cowboys game, and

  1434. that was so

  1435. much fun.

  1436. Y'all ever

  1437. heard Lee Greenwood

  1438. sing proud to be

  1439. an American?

  1440. All right, I'm

  1441. just making sure

  1442. you're looking at

  1443. me like I don't

  1444. know what you're

  1445. talking about.

  1446. So I love it.

  1447. I'm patriotic.

  1448. Thank God every

1449. day that I got to

  1450. be born in

  1451. America.

  1452. There are people

  1453. who might walk

  1454. into our church

  1455. that didn't get to

  1456. be born in

  1457. America, and they

  1458. don't have that

  1459. bond with us.

  1460. But you know what

  1461. bond we do have?

  1462. God's love.

  1463. Our citizenship is

  1464. in the same

  1465. kingdom.

  1466. Our citizenship is

  1467. in heaven.

  1468. So we thank God

  1469. for our earthly

  1470. citizenship, and we

1471. try to be as good

  1472. a citizens as we

  1473. can in our earthly

  1474. countries, remembering

  1475. that our real

  1476. citizenship is in

  1477. heaven.

  1478. And someday, when

  1479. earthly nations will

  1480. have passed, God

  1481. will still remain.

  1482. Heaven will still

  1483. remain.

  1484. And our citizenship

  1485. will be there.

  1486. And so we thank

  1487. him for that.

  1488. 2 Timothy 1 and

  1489. verse 9, he has

  1490. saved us.

  1491. He's called us with

  1492. a holy calling, not

  1493. according to our

  1494. works, but according

  1495. to his own purpose

  1496. and grace, which was

1497. given to us in Christ

  1498. Jesus before time

  1499. began.

  1500. He's called us to a

  1501. higher calling, a

  1502. higher plane.

  1503. He's got his own

  1504. purpose for us, and

  1505. we're members of the

  1506. same family.

  1507. Verse 19, we saw

  1508. that.

  1509. We're no longer

  1510. foreigners and

  1511. strangers.

  1512. We're members of

  1513. God's household.

  1514. Now, what is

  1515. something that is

  1516. always true about

  1517. family?

  1518. Y'all start throwing

  1519. some things at me.

  1520. What's that?

  1521. Always get along, he

  1522. says tongue-in-cheek,

  1523. sarcastically, and

  1524. immediately his kids

  1525. say no.

  1526. That's funny.

  1527. No, families don't

  1528. always get along, do

  1529. they.

  1530. That's right.

  1531. They're there for

  1532. each other.

  1533. Families can feud

  1534. within themselves, but

  1535. they sure will unite

  1536. against anybody else

  1537. trying to attack them,

  1538. right?

  1539. That's my brother to

  1540. fight with.

  1541. You can't fight with

  1542. him.

1543. We are members of the

  1544. same family.

  1545. I'm trying to teach

1546. Austin a bow right now,

  1547. and they're home sick,

  1548. so I'm not going to, I

1549. can pick on them, and

  1550. you know, it's fine.

1551. But I'm trying to teach

  1552. them right now, you

  1553. guys are brothers, you're

  1554. two years apart, you've

1555. got to have each other's

  1556. backs.

1557. You've got to have each

  1558. other's backs.

1559. My brother was six years

1560. older than I am, well,

  1561. still is.

1562. He always had my back, and

1563. I always had his back.

1564. And that was just, you

  1565. know, we had that

  1566. relationship.

1567. And I want my kids to

  1568. have the same thing.

1569. And the truth is, you

1570. and I should have the

  1571. same thing with each

  1572. other.

  1573. We should have each

  1574. other's backs.

1575. We should pray for each

  1576. other.

1577. We should not be out

  1578. there to undermine each

  1579. other.

  1580. Yes, thank you.

  1581. God bless you.

  1582. I know.

  1583. It's, I had a cold for

1584. like a week, and now

1585. this cough just won't go

  1586. away.

  1587. Pardon me for a

  1588. second.

  1589. Don't look at me.

  1590. I feel self-conscious.

  1591. All right.

  1592. Here we go.

  1593. Thank you.

1594. I'm going to wet the

  1595. whistle.

1596. But we are members of

  1597. the same family.

  1598. We've got to remember

  1599. that.

1600. And so we must love each

  1601. other like family.

  1602. Understand there's going

  1603. to be disagreements.

  1604. We're going to feud

  1605. sometimes.

1606. But don't let it get to

1607. the point of breaking up

  1608. the family.

  1609. You understand?

  1610. At some point,

  1611. somebody's got to humble

1612. themselves and go and say,

  1613. you know what?

  1614. I was wrong.

1615. I got to make this right.

1616. I have to do that.

  1617. I've had to do that a

1618. couple times in the last

  1619. few weeks.

  1620. It happens.

1621. I got to do that with my

  1622. own family.

1623. I got to do that with

  1624. this family.

1625. We've got to do that

  1626. with one another.

  1627. God's household is the

  1628. church.

  1629. 1 Timothy 3 reminds us of

  1630. this.

  1631. God's household is the

1632. church of the living God,

  1633. the pillar and foundation

  1634. of the truth.

  1635. You understand that last

  1636. part there?

  1637. The pillar and foundation

  1638. of the truth?

1639. It means the church is

  1640. really important.

  1641. The church is essential

  1642. to the community.

  1643. If we don't have a strong

  1644. church in the community,

  1645. then the community will

  1646. suffer because the pillar

  1647. and foundation of the

  1648. truth is crumbling.

  1649. So we've got to be a

  1650. strong pillar that can't

  1651. be broken.

  1652. We've got to have a strong

  1653. foundation that can't be

  1654. shaken of the truth.

  1655. Who's the truth?

  1656. Who's the truth?

  1657. Jesus.

1658. He said, I am the way, the

1659. truth, and the life, right?

1660. So we are the expression of

  1661. Jesus on earth.

  1662. Again, that's a terrifying

  1663. thought, right?

1664. If you and I are the ones who

1665. are supposed to express Jesus

1666. on the earth, we do that so

  1667. poorly sometimes.

1668. It's no wonder the world around

1669. us is going to hell in a

  1670. handbasket, so to speak.

1671. But when we are a strong

1672. pillar and foundation as the

1673. church, then the truth is

1674. able to go out and be

  1675. received and make a

  1676. difference and change lives.

1677. So we must remember that we

1678. are part of the same family,

  1679. part of God's household.

  1680. That's our church.

  1681. Romans 12, verse 5.

    Romans 12:5

1682. We who are many are one body

  1683. in Christ and individually

  1684. members of one another.

  1685. It doesn't just say that we're

  1686. members of God's body.

1687. It says we're members of one

  1688. another.

1689. Man, God just takes it a step

  1690. further.

1691. He says you've got to get along

1692. because you are members of one

  1693. another.

1694. If there is strife within the

1695. body where the members are

1696. fighting with each other, then

  1697. the whole body suffers.

1698. And then the whole community

  1699. suffers.

1700. And then the whole county

  1701. suffers.

1702. And the whole state suffers.

1703. And the whole nation suffers.

1704. And the whole world suffers.

1705. And you start to see why

1706. there's so much turmoil and

  1707. strife because often the

  1708. church drops the ball.

1709. Ultimately, we are the light

  1710. in the dark world.

1711. So when the light shines

1712. brightly, people are drawn to

  1713. it.

1714. When it's dim or when it's kind

1715. of flickering, it's not as

  1716. effective.

1717. And when it turns out, the

  1718. community is lost.

1719. So we pray that God would not

1720. extinguish our light, that we

1721. would get along, that we would

1722. be members of one another,

  1723. united as God's household.

1724. We are stones in the same

  1725. temple.

  1726. Verse 20 through verse 22.

  1727. Verse 20, we're built on the

1728. foundation of the apostles and

  1729. prophets with Christ Jesus

  1730. himself as the cornerstone.

1731. In Christ Jesus, the whole

  1732. building being put together

1733. grows into a holy temple in the

  1734. Lord.

1735. In him, you also are being built

1736. together for God's dwelling in

  1737. the spirit.

1738. He's not just working on me.

1739. He's working on all of us

  1740. together.

  1741. Okay?

1742. They couldn't have said together

1743. more times than they did.

1744. It's like every sentence had the

  1745. word together in it.

1746. We are being built together.

1747. We're stones in the same temple.

1748. So we're supposed to fit.

1749. God's building us into what he

1750. wants us to be and he's

  1751. building us together.

1752. So we are stones in the same

  1753. temple.

  1754. Look at 1 Peter chapter 2

    1 Peter 2:4

  1755. verses 4 and 5.

1756. As you come to him, Jesus, a

  1757. living stone.

1758. He is the living stone we're

  1759. talking about here.

  1760. There's this typology that we're

  1761. reading here.

1762. Jesus is the living stone

1763. rejected by people but chosen

  1764. and honored by God.

1765. Then, verse 5, view yourselves

  1766. as living stones.

1767. We're also living stones like

  1768. Jesus.

1769. A spiritual house are being

1770. built to be a holy priesthood.

1771. God is building us together into

  1772. this beautiful spiritual house.

1773. But we've got to fit together.

  1774. Okay?

1775. If we get all bent out of shape,

1776. then the stones don't fit.

1777. And the house doesn't get built.

  1778. So, what's our takeaway?

1779. We should daily trade our earthly

  1780. identities for our heavenly

  1781. identities.

  1782. That's our takeaway.

1783. Daily trade my earthly identity

  1784. for my heavenly identity.

1785. That is a daily action.

  1786. It's a daily realization.

  1787. Adopting my heavenly identity.

  1788. Why?

1789. Why do we have to remind ourselves

  1790. daily?

1791. Because we're trapped in this body.

1792. We're trapped in this flesh.

1793. We're not going to come by it

  1794. naturally.

1795. You're not going to wake up

1796. and be filled with the Spirit.

1797. You'll have the Spirit of God

1798. if you put your faith in Jesus

  1799. and are His child.

  1800. He's there.

1801. But you've got to consciously

  1802. turn to Him

  1803. and say,

1804. I'm taking on my heavenly identity

  1805. today

1806. because the people around me

  1807. don't need earthly me.

  1808. Right?

  1809. They need heavenly me.

  1810. I can always tell

  1811. when my family

  1812. is getting earthly Sam

1813. as opposed to heavenly Sam.

  1814. And they usually suffer

1815. a little bit for that.

  1816. I can always tell

1817. when I'm dealing with people

  1818. in my earthly self

1819. as opposed to my heavenly self.

1820. And then I've got to go

  1821. make that right.

1822. And you've got to do

  1823. the same thing.

1824. So we must daily trade

  1825. our earthly identities

  1826. for our heavenly identities.

1827. Real quick and we're done.

1828. What does this look like?

  1829. Identity switch.

  1830. Okay?

  1831. Identity switch.

  1832. Here we go.

1833. I give up earthly privileges.

1834. I give up earthly privileges.

  1835. That's what that guy

  1836. was talking about,

  1837. James Denny,

  1838. that Scottish theologian.

  1839. You know,

1840. we carry around this idea

  1841. of privilege with us.

1842. And I'm not even referencing

  1843. the, you know,

  1844. this,

1845. the woke ideology out there

  1846. of white privilege

  1847. and, you know,

  1848. that kind of stuff.

  1849. That's not what I'm talking about.

  1850. I'm talking about

  1851. this Christian privilege

1852. that comes into our minds.

  1853. This Christian privilege

  1854. of I'm above that.

  1855. I'm a good person

1856. because I go to church.

1857. I've been going to church

  1858. my whole life.

  1859. I'm a deacon.

  1860. I give my tithe.

  1861. You know,

  1862. we get this idea

  1863. of earthly privilege

  1864. in our heads.

1865. We've got to get that out

  1866. and remind ourselves

  1867. that we are

1868. who God says we are.

  1869. We are wicked,

  1870. evil sinners

1871. on our way to hell.

  1872. But God came in

  1873. and rescued us

  1874. and changed us.

1875. And now the only good in us

  1876. is because of him.

  1877. So now we are

  1878. simply stones

  1879. being built

  1880. into the building

1881. that he wants us to be.

  1882. We are lights

  1883. shining in the darkness.

1884. We give up our privileges

  1885. and we take on

  1886. his responsibility,

  1887. his mission for us,

  1888. his purpose for us.

1889. I give up earthly preferences.

  1890. Number two,

1891. I give up earthly preferences.

  1892. Okay?

1893. You might feel one way about it.

  1894. What did we say

  1895. back in our series

  1896. on the church?

  1897. Don't let secondary things

  1898. become primary.

  1899. Anybody remember that?

  1900. Good.

  1901. Don't let secondary things

  1902. become primary.

1903. We've got to at some point

1904. give up our earthly preferences

  1905. out of preference

  1906. for others.

  1907. Say, you know,

1908. this is what I would prefer,

  1909. but that's not

  1910. what really matters.

  1911. What really matters

  1912. is we fit together.

  1913. We are unified

1914. and we can go forward.

  1915. It doesn't matter

  1916. if I win.

  1917. I don't have to win

1918. as long as Jesus wins.

1919. I give up earthly preferences

1920. and then I give up

  1921. earthly priorities.

  1922. Your priority

  1923. about the music

  1924. might be something.

  1925. Your priority

1926. about how the church looks

  1927. might be something.

  1928. Your priority

  1929. about how you spend

  1930. your time

  1931. might be one way.

  1932. Your priority

  1933. about what you spend

  1934. your money on

  1935. might be one way.

  1936. God,

  1937. I can tell you,

  1938. I can promise you,

  1939. is here to rearrange

  1940. your priorities.

  1941. God will do that.

  1942. The closer you walk

  1943. with God,

  1944. he will give you

  1945. new priorities.

1946. And if you give up

  1947. your earthly identity

  1948. and you take on

  1949. your heavenly identity,

  1950. your priorities

  1951. will change.

  1952. Alright?

  1953. But they'll change

  1954. for the better.

  1955. God will make something

  1956. so much more beautiful

  1957. out of your life

  1958. through that reordering

  1959. of your priorities

  1960. than you ever could.

  1961. I can promise that.

  1962. I can testify that.

1963. He's done it in mine.

1964. And then I give up

  1965. earthly passions.

  1966. I give up

  1967. earthly passions.

  1968. You might be

  1969. passionate about something

  1970. that God doesn't want

1971. you to be passionate about.

  1972. You might be

  1973. dominated or controlled

  1974. by the lusts

  1975. of your flesh.

  1976. You might have

  1977. worldly sinful appetites

  1978. that are driving you

  1979. away from God.

  1980. And that's a constant

  1981. battle going on

  1982. between the flesh

  1983. and the spirit

  1984. in your life.

  1985. When you take on

  1986. your heavenly identity,

  1987. you give up

  1988. those earthly passions.

  1989. Say,

  1990. God,

1991. I love how it makes me feel.

  1992. I love doing this.

  1993. It's my go-to.

  1994. It's my escape.

  1995. But instead,

  1996. you're going to have

1997. to provide a new escape

  1998. for me.

  1999. He will.

  2000. You're going to have

  2001. to provide release

  2002. for me,

  2003. deliverance for me,

  2004. freedom for me.

  2005. He will.

  2006. He'll give you

  2007. new passions.

  2008. You can become

  2009. passionate about

  2010. your family.

  2011. You can become

  2012. passionate about

2013. his will for your life.

  2014. You can become

  2015. passionate about

2016. the people in your life

  2017. that don't know Jesus

  2018. and helping them

2019. meet him for the first time.

  2020. He'll give you

  2021. new passions.

  2022. Galatians 3.28.

  2023. It's printed

  2024. in your bulletin there.

  2025. There is no Jew

  2026. or Greek.

  2027. There's no slave

  2028. or free.

  2029. There's no male

  2030. and female

  2031. since you are

  2032. all one

  2033. in Christ Jesus.

  2034. All right?

  2035. You got that?

  2036. Did we get it

  2037. across this morning?

  2038. That's who we are.

  2039. We are one

  2040. in Jesus.

  2041. That's who God

  2042. says we are.

  2043. We sang it earlier.

  2044. I am

2045. who you say I am.

2046. Who he says we are

  2047. is one

  2048. in Christ Jesus.

  2049. There's this song

  2050. that was written

  2051. by this guy

  2052. who said his name

  2053. was John Oxenham.

2054. That wasn't his real name

2055. but that was the name

  2056. he wrote music under.

  2057. And so he says

  2058. in Christ

  2059. there is

  2060. no

  2061. east

  2062. or west.

  2063. It's in our

  2064. Baptist hymnal.

  2065. In Christ

  2066. there is

  2067. no east

  2068. or west.

2069. If you don't believe me

2070. you can pull it out

2071. and search in the back

  2072. it'll be there.

  2073. In him

  2074. no south

  2075. or north.

  2076. The whole song

  2077. I encourage you

  2078. to look at it

  2079. when you get home

  2080. tonight

  2081. it's 12 o'clock

  2082. we're not going

  2083. to take time

  2084. to go through

  2085. it all right now.

  2086. But the principle

  2087. is there

  2088. in Christ

  2089. there is

  2090. no east

  2091. or west

  2092. in him

  2093. no south

  2094. or north.

  2095. Man draws

  2096. these divisions.

  2097. Man back

  2098. in the time

  2099. in the day

  2100. when this song

  2101. was written

  2102. the north

  2103. and south

  2104. that was

  2105. a major division.

  2106. Right?

  2107. Man has always

  2108. throughout time

  2109. drawn lines

  2110. drawn dividing lines.

  2111. God is here

  2112. to blur those lines.

  2113. God is here

  2114. to tear down

  2115. those walls.

  2116. We must daily trade

  2117. our earthly identity

  2118. and all that goes

  2119. along with it

  2120. all that baggage

  2121. that makes up

  2122. our earthly identity

  2123. lay it down

  2124. and take on

  2125. our heavenly identity

  2126. and say God

  2127. as best I can

  2128. with the help

  2129. of your spirit

  2130. I'm going to be

  2131. who you say

  2132. I am today.

2133. Would you pray with me?

  2134. Let's bow our heads.

  2135. Lord Jesus

  2136. I thank you

  2137. for teaching us

  2138. from your word.

  2139. I thank you

  2140. for convicting me

  2141. for convicting

  2142. I'm sure many hearts

  2143. in here

  2144. by your spirit

  2145. that we don't always

  2146. act like who

  2147. we actually are.

  2148. We often

  2149. act out of our

  2150. earthly identity

  2151. instead of our

  2152. heavenly identity.

  2153. And our priorities

  2154. and our passions

  2155. and our preferences

  2156. always come up

  2157. to the forefront.

2158. I pray that we would

  2159. confess that to you.

2160. Thank you for your forgiveness

  2161. and walk forward

  2162. by the power

  2163. of your spirit.

2164. Church with every head bowed

  2165. and every eye closed

  2166. right now

  2167. let me ask you

  2168. this question.

  2169. How many of you

  2170. would say

  2171. there's some things

2172. that God needs to change

  2173. in my heart?

  2174. to become that heavenly

  2175. version of me

2176. that he wants me to be

  2177. instead of that

  2178. earthly version?

  2179. There's some things

2180. he needs to change in me.

2181. Would you slip your hand up

2182. and I'll pray for you?

  2183. All across the room

  2184. thank you.

2185. You can put your hands down.

2186. How many of you would say

  2187. I don't even know Jesus yet.

2188. I need to be saved.

2189. I need to confess my sins

2190. and turn from my sin

  2191. and turn to Jesus

  2192. to forgive me

  2193. become his child.

2194. Would you slip your hand up?

2195. I'll pray for you as well.

  2196. Thank you.

2197. God you've seen the hands

2198. you know what's going on

  2199. in each heart.

2200. I ask that you would

  2201. embolden us

  2202. give us the courage

2203. and give us the strength

2204. to take the steps necessary

  2205. to lay down

  2206. ourselves

2207. and take on our identity

  2208. in you.

  2209. Make us fit together

  2210. as a beautiful

  2211. holy building

  2212. of a church

  2213. that can go out

  2214. in this community

  2215. and truly show off

  2216. Jesus

  2217. and not ourselves.

  2218. We'll trust you

  2219. to do it

  2220. it's in Jesus name

  2221. we pray.

  2222. Amen.

  2223. Thank you.
