  1. All right, well, amen. Last Sunday, we started this series called New Life, A Fresh Beginning

  2. with Jesus. And first of all, how many of y'all enjoyed that choir special we just heard?

  3. Wasn't that a lot of fun? Yeah, I thought they did awesome, man. It got a little soul

  4. up in here. There's nothing wrong with that every once in a while. All right. I would

  5. like to invite you to take the Word of God with me and let's go to... Let me make sure

  6. this is working real quick here. Y'all, we are good to go. Let's go. Let's have a little

  7. Jesus clap that the slides are working today. If you've been coming here for a little while,

  8. you've seen days when they just did not want to cooperate. So we are grateful that that's

  9. all on track today. 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 17. 2 Corinthians chapter 5 and verse

  10. 17. This is our second Sunday in this new series called New Life, A Fresh Beginning

  11. with Jesus. If you wouldn't mind, if you're able to and willing, would you join us in standing?

  12. We'll just read this verse briefly and then ask God to bless our reading of the Word today.

  13. And I hope that He speaks to you as He has to me and I know many others in our church. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  14. chapter 5 and verse 17. Everyone looking at a copy of God's Word if you can and if you just

  15. can't get your eyes on one, then we have it up here on the screen. Let's read together.

  16. Ready? Begin. If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away and see,

  17. the new has come. Can you read those two words highlighted on the screen up top in front of

  18. you? Ready? Begin. New creation. And God, we ask you to remind us that as many of us are in

  19. Christ, we are a new creation. The old has passed away. The new is here. Yet sometimes we find

  20. ourselves chasing after the old. We find ourselves going backward. Remind us, God, that every day,

  21. every morning can be a fresh beginning with you. You're doing something new in the life of our church.

  22. We see it. Recognize it. Show us our place in it. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. You may be seated.

  23. Thanks for standing. So 2 Corinthians 5, 17 teaches us this foundational truth to the Christian life

  24. that the old is gone, the new is here. The old way was the way of the Old Testament. The law

  25. that none of us can measure up to. The sin that easily tears us down, holds us back. We can't seem to

  26. shake it. And therefore, we could never match up to the expectations that God's law set for mankind.

  27. That is the old way. Then Jesus came and he replaced the law. He is better than the law.

  28. Jesus came and showed the flaws of the law. That while it would reveal our sinfulness,

  29. the truth about us, it would never bring us to God. But Jesus could do that. Jesus was the way

  30. that you and I could have a relationship with God. The only way that that would be possible.

  31. And so if we have followed that way and we have chosen the Jesus way, then now we are in Christ.

  32. We are no longer in our flesh. We are no longer in or under the law. Now we are in Christ. We are under

  33. grace. We are now living free. And if we are in Christ, we are a new creation. The old is gone. The new

  34. is here. Last Sunday, we looked at Isaiah 43 and 44 and we read how God is doing a new thing

  35. in the life of our church right now. Man, we showed that slide last Sunday of all those kids who have

  36. gotten baptized in just recent months and weeks. And we see that God is doing a new thing. And we

  37. didn't even have the two up there from last Sunday. Or the ones that are yet scheduled to come

  38. and be baptized and give testimony, public testimony to what God is doing in their life.

  39. God is doing a new thing in our church. And often he starts with the younger ones.

  40. Oftentimes he starts with your children, your grandchildren, the generations coming up behind

  41. you because they might be less calloused. They might be less hardened. They might be more open to the new

  42. thing that God is doing. So the question is, do we see what he's doing? This new thing. Today,

  43. I want to talk to you about this simple concept. Stop trying and start training. This came from

  44. someone who taught me, man, this guy teaches me something every time I heard him speak. How many

  45. of you ever heard of Craig Groeschel, pastor of Life Church in Oklahoma City? Anybody? We got like

  46. six of you, maybe. That's all right. Hey, if you have a chance to hear his podcast or go online and

  47. watch his preaching, I've never heard him preach anything off base or unscriptural. If you have,

  48. come talk to me. We'll look at it together. But personally, he's blessed me, convicted me,

  49. and moved me every time I've heard him speak or read one of his books. And so I got this concept

  50. from him. God showed me this. And I realized the biblical truth that supports it. So the theme for

  51. today, and it's probably going to be a recurring theme over the next several weeks, is stop trying,

  52. start training. Stop trying, start training. What do we mean by that? Well, let's go to the Word of God.

  53. Galatians chapter 1 and verse 10. You and I find ourselves trying to do all kinds of different things.

    Galatians 1 chapter mention

  54. words. We'll try to lose weight. We'll try to be a better dad or a better wife. We'll try to be a

  55. mother. We'll try to be a better son or daughter. We'll try to be a better friend. We'll try to be

  56. a better employee. We'll try to make more money. We'll try to handle our finances better. We'll try

  57. to get up and do the things that we need to get done. We'll try to get up early in the morning. We'll

  58. try to go to bed earlier. We'll try to do all these different things that are worthy endeavors,

  59. and we should do those things,

  60. but try, try, try,

  61. and what happens so often,

  62. we fail, fail, fail.

  63. Paul wrote this in Galatians 1.10.

  64. Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings or of God?

  65. Am I trying to please people?

  66. If I were still trying to please people,

  67. I would not be a servant of Christ.

  68. You know what?

  69. That is the motivation usually behind our trying.

  70. Our endless trying is usually to please somebody else.

  71. Maybe it's to get your spouse off your back.

  72. Maybe it's to get your boss off your back.

  73. Whatever it is, it's usually to please someone else.

  74. Maybe you have a mentor that you've let down

  75. and you're trying to win their approval again.

  76. Whatever it is that you're trying to do,

  77. most often when we boil it down to its very basic reality,

  78. it's we're trying to please somebody.

  79. So, Paul says, I'm not doing that.

  80. I'm not trying to please anybody.

  81. I wouldn't be a servant of Christ if I was.

  82. So now let's look at 2 Timothy 3 and verse 16.

  83. If the children have their sermon listening guides

  84. where they get to draw and write in a question for the pastor

  85. or something like that, this verse is on there.

  86. All scripture is inspired by God,

  87. is profitable for teaching, for rebuking,

  88. for correcting, for training in righteousness.

  89. You see the difference in those two words?

  90. There's trying, which Paul says, I'm not doing that.

  91. I'm not trying to please people.

  92. Over here in 2 Timothy 3,

  93. we read that the Word of God is there to train us

  94. in righteousness.

  95. So the man of God or woman of God

  96. may be complete, equipped for every good work.

  97. The Bible is there to train us.

  98. God does not ask us to try, try, try.

  99. Instead, he says, if you walk with me,

  100. I will train, train, train you.

  101. And there's such a mind shift between those two words.

  102. There's such a different outlook on life

  103. between those two concepts.

  104. God tells us to treat our children this way.

  105. He says, train up a child in the way he should go.

  106. And then even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

  107. God works with us that way, doesn't he?

  108. He doesn't say, man, you better try to follow me.

  109. You better try to be good.

  110. He knows we can't be good.

  111. We can fake it for a while,

  112. but that's all it is, is faking it.

  113. God says, let me train you.

  114. Let me walk with you.

  115. Let me lead you.

  116. This is going to be a lifelong process.

  117. You're not trying.

  118. You're in training.

  119. So that's what we're asking ourselves to do today

  120. is stop trying and start training.

  121. This could be the first time

  122. that you wrap your head around this concept

  123. in your entire walk with Jesus.

  124. Maybe you've been a born-again Christian for decades,

  125. but you've been thinking about it

  126. as I'm trying, trying, trying to follow God,

  127. to do what's right, and man, it's hard.

  128. Yes, yes it is.

  129. But you know what?

  130. If you have a simple redirection

  131. of how you're looking at this,

  132. then you realize that training is hard.

  133. How many of you ever trained for something?

  134. Anybody?

  135. Slip your hand up.

  136. Bruce, what'd you train for?

  137. Marathon?

  138. It's awesome.

  139. Did you run it?

  140. Twice.

  141. Bruce is just flexing on us over there.

  142. I've run two marathons.

  143. That's awesome, man.

  144. I bet that took a little bit of training.

  145. Just a little bit.

  146. I bet you didn't just go around

  147. around the track at the school a couple times.

  148. You're like, I'm good to go.

  149. Well, my brother ran one of those,

  150. and it liked to kill him.

  151. We have very different body types,

  152. my brother and I.

  153. I want to start with like a 5K, okay?

  154. And then maybe someday before I'm dead,

  155. we'll get to a marathon.

  156. We'll see.

  157. But y'all, training is hard, is it not?

  158. You can't just go eat whatever you want

  159. and then run a marathon.

  160. How many of you ever trained for football?

  161. Anybody in the room?

  162. We got more football players than that.

  163. Come on, get your hands up.

  164. Here we go.

  165. How many of you have trained?

  166. There we go, there we go.

  167. How about basketball?

  168. Anybody?

  169. Volleyball?

  170. Softball?

  171. Baseball?

  172. Tennis?

  173. Golf?

  174. How many of you have a lifelong training relationship

  175. with golf,

  176. and it feels like you haven't progressed all that far?

  177. Yeah, yeah.

  178. Me too.

  179. Anybody who's played golf with me,

  180. Jacob Browning, can tell you.

  181. That man needs to keep training.

  182. Really bad.

  183. I know I do.

  184. Y'all, training is difficult.

  185. Training is hard.

  186. But here's the thing.

  187. When you're training,

  188. you don't get mad at yourself

  189. for not succeeding right away

  190. because you recognize

  191. that you're not performing yet.

  192. You're not there.

  193. You're training.

  194. So when we're training in the Christian life,

  195. we don't get upset and aggravated in ourselves

  196. that we mess up sometimes

  197. because we recognize,

  198. just like Paul said,

  199. he said,

  200. I have not attained.

  201. I have not been made perfect.

  202. What does he mean by that?

  203. I haven't reached where God is taking me yet.

  204. I'm on my way,

  205. but I'm training.

  206. And I think that is the shift

  207. that many of us,

  208. including myself,

  209. need sometimes in our walk with God

  210. is we've got to stop trying,

  211. trying, trying,

  212. and recognize that we are training with Jesus.

  213. 1 Corinthians 9

  214. is where we'll spend the rest of our time this morning.

  215. 1 Corinthians 9, verse 25.

    1 Corinthians 9:25

  216. I'm reading from the New Living Translation.

  217. If you want to look on, go ahead.

  218. But I've got it on the screen here.

  219. All athletes are disciplined in their training.

  220. The other versions will say something similar to this concept,

  221. but I love that this New Living Translation

  222. had the word training in here.

  223. It really jives with what we're trying to drive across this morning.

  224. All athletes are disciplined in their training.

  225. Well, we know that, don't we?

  226. If you're a real athlete,

  227. then you're going to be disciplined

  228. in whatever you're training for.

  229. If you're an Olympic athlete,

  230. you don't get there just by skill.

  231. You can't.

  232. You can't get there just by talent alone.

  233. You have to train for the disciplines

  234. that you're trying to succeed in.

  235. So athletes are disciplined in their training.

  236. They do it to win a prize.

  237. Back in ancient Greece,

  238. when the Olympics were invented,

  239. what was the prize that they were trying to win?

  240. It was a little wreath

  241. that would go over their head of leaves.

  242. Obviously, it was the status,

  243. it was the attention,

  244. the glory that came with being the winner,

  245. the victor of their particular event.

  246. But that wreath of leaves would fade away so fast, right?

  247. They would strive, strive, strive,

  248. and work, work, work

  249. to win an event for a prize that would fade away.

  250. I've heard stories of Olympic athletes

  251. getting into financial trouble later

  252. and literally selling their gold medals

  253. to try to pay bills.

  254. The prize that you win on this earth

  255. is never guaranteed to last.

  256. But we do it.

  257. We train.

  258. We are disciplined in our training

  259. for an eternal prize.

  260. God's not promising us a trophy

  261. or a leaf wreath

  262. or a gold medal.

  263. He's promising us

  264. rewards in heaven,

  265. glory and honor

  266. and blessing

  267. that we can then turn

  268. and give right back to our Heavenly Father.

  269. The Bible says that whatever

  270. we do for Christ

  271. will result in gold,

  272. silver, and precious stones

  273. that we will receive in heaven someday.

  274. It's an eternal prize.

  275. So we are disciplined in our training

  276. because we know there is something waiting for us

  277. that will not fade away.

  278. Verse 26,

  279. So I run with purpose in every step.

  280. Here's where we're going to bring it home, okay?

  281. I am not just shadowboxing.

  282. I'm not just fighting at the air.

  283. I'm not just fighting with no opponent

  284. or no purpose.

  285. There is intention and purpose

  286. in everything I do.

  287. I discipline my body like an athlete,

  288. training it to do what it should.

  289. Paul is writing this to us

  290. and he's saying,

  291. this is what I have to do

  292. to successfully run this Christian life.

  293. I have to discipline my body.

  294. I have to discipline my spirit.

  295. When I run,

  296. when I take a step on this journey with Jesus,

  297. I do it with purpose.

  298. Y'all, as a church, okay?

  299. Now individually,

  300. we need to take this to heart.

  301. But as a church, together,

  302. we're all gathered

  303. and this is a perfect opportunity

  304. for us to re-identify ourselves as a church.

  305. Do we run every step as a church with purpose?

  306. Is there a reason for every ministry we have?

  307. Have we identified the prize

  308. that lies ahead of us?

  309. We are training.

  310. We are training as a church.

  311. We are not yet there.

  312. We've been here since 1876, haven't we?

  313. Maybe not here,

  314. but we've been in existence since 1876.

  315. We've been around a long time.

  316. Some of you have been around close to that long.

  317. But we have not yet arrived at our goal.

  318. We have not yet achieved

  319. what God established this church

  320. in Henrietta, Texas to be.

  321. So if we are looking ahead

  322. to a prize that we know won't fade away,

  323. you know what won't fade away

  324. in the life of our church?

  325. Those baptisms that happened.

  326. You know what won't fade away

  327. is the time that you spent instructing young people.

  328. The time that you spent on your knees

  329. crying out to God

  330. for people to be saved,

  331. for their lives to be transformed.

  332. Those things will not fade away.

  333. Man, there's all kinds of things

  334. the church can do

  335. that will be forgotten,

  336. that will fade away,

  337. that will not truly make much of an impact

  338. for the kingdom of God.

  339. But there are some things

  340. that we are called to do.

  341. We are called

  342. to lift up Jesus in our home.

  343. We are called

  344. to pour into somebody else

  345. and try to

  346. take someone's hand

  347. and walk with them

  348. toward becoming like Jesus.

  349. We are called

  350. to share the good news of Jesus with others

  351. and lead them

  352. into church

  353. where they can get up

  354. and testify

  355. of the decision that they've made

  356. to place their faith in Jesus

  357. and they can get up there

  358. and get baptized

  359. and say,

  360. I'm walking with Jesus now.

  361. We are called

  362. to do these things

  363. and those things

  364. don't fade away.

  365. So if the goal

  366. of our church

  367. is discipleship,

  368. becoming more like Jesus,

  369. becoming a disciple,

  370. a follower,

  371. a true follower

  372. of Jesus,

  373. then what are the purposes

  374. of the things

  375. that we actually do

  376. in our church?

  377. what about the preaching?

  378. What about the singing?

  379. What about the offering?

  380. What about the announcements?

  381. What about the kindness ministry?

  382. What about the Sunday school?

  383. The youth group?

  384. What about the benevolence committee?

  385. What about the different things

  386. that our church does?

  387. We've got to put everything

  388. under the microscope

  389. and say,

  390. are we running with purpose

  391. in every step?

  392. Because if not,

  393. we're not training well.

  394. Instead,

  395. we're just trying.

  396. Well,

  397. I don't really know

  398. if this is going to

  399. fulfill the mission

  400. of our church,

  401. but I feel like

  402. we need to try something,

  403. so let's try this.

  404. Let's try that.

  405. I remember

  406. back 30 years ago,

  407. we did this

  408. and it seemed like

  409. people enjoyed it,

  410. so let's try it again.

  411. Let's not try,

  412. let's train

  413. with purpose

  414. in every step.

  415. Then,

  416. we know

  417. we're pursuing

  418. the goal,

  419. which is Jesus,

  420. which is making

  421. much of Jesus,

  422. which is raising

  423. our children,

  424. our friends,

  425. our family,

  426. everyone in our circle

  427. to make much

  428. of Jesus.

  429. So,

  430. stop trying,

  431. start training.

  432. How do we prepare

  433. for that?

  434. How do we get ready

  435. for that?

  436. Number one,

  437. we equip ourselves.

  438. If you've ever

  439. trained with something,

  440. you realize

  441. you've got to go out

  442. and get the equipment,

  443. don't you?

  444. If you're going

  445. to run a marathon

  446. like Bruce did

  447. twice,

  448. you're probably

  449. not going to

  450. dress like

  451. you're herding cattle.

  452. Now,

  453. maybe he did.

  454. I don't think so.

  455. How many of y'all

  456. ever watched

  457. American Ninja Warrior?

  458. Anybody on TV?

  459. I love that show.

  460. My kids love it.

  461. We got some

  462. American Ninja Warrior

  463. fans in this church.

  464. All right.

  465. Maybe we need to have

  466. an A&W party

  467. up here sometime

  468. and have a little

  469. watch party

  470. when they have

  471. the next season.

  472. How many of y'all

  473. ever heard of

  474. Lance Peacus,

  475. the cowboy ninja?

  476. Anybody?

  477. There you go.

  478. That's like

  479. taking it down a level.

  480. All right?

  481. Yeah,

  482. I've watched

  483. American Ninja Warrior.

  484. How about Lance Peacus?

  485. Now we know

  486. who the real fans are.

  487. Lance Peacus

  488. wears jeans

  489. every time

  490. and early

  491. when he would

  492. start running

  493. those first couple

  494. races before you

  495. get up to the

  496. nationals level,

  497. I think he ran

  498. in cowboy boots

  499. a time or two.

  500. He's running

  501. this obstacle course

  502. where you got to

  503. jump and swing

  504. and climb

  505. and all this

  506. physically taxing

  507. stuff.

  508. He's running

  509. in jeans

  510. and cowboy boots.

  511. He would have

  512. a cowboy hat on

  513. that would inevitably

  514. fall off at some

  515. point while he's

  516. running his race.

  517. And I've seen

  518. because I've

  519. been a little bit

  520. of a diehard

  521. on American Ninja Warrior.

  522. I've seen

  523. him suffer

  524. because he didn't

  525. have the right

  526. clothes on at times.

  527. You see these guys

  528. get out there

  529. and they're wearing

  530. their athletic outfits

  531. and their nice shoes

  532. and shorts

  533. and tank top

  534. or whatever

  535. and they're able

  536. to have the freedom

  537. of movement

  538. to do whatever

  539. they need to do.

  540. It's important

  541. to wear

  542. the right equipment.

  543. My kids

  544. just the other day

  545. discovered that

  546. football players

  547. have not always

  548. had full face masks

  549. on their football

  550. helmets.

  551. And they're sitting

  552. there thinking

  553. man

  554. how did they

  555. do that?

  556. Well

  557. they got hurt

  558. a lot.

  559. That's what happened.

  560. They got a lot

  561. of concussions.

  562. It was rough.

  563. Nowadays

  564. you got all

  565. the technology

  566. and the fancy helmets

  567. and the coach

  568. could be talking

  569. to you in there

  570. and I saw recently

  571. some of the newest helmets

  572. have like

  573. head up displays

  574. that you can see

  575. you know

  576. plays and all this

  577. in your visor

  578. and it's just crazy

  579. what they can do now.

  580. The equipment

  581. is important

  582. if you're going

  583. to train well.

  584. If you're going

  585. to get ready

  586. to train

  587. as a Christian

  588. what do you need

  589. to equip yourself with?

  590. Well

  591. you probably need

  592. to download

  593. the YouVersion

  594. Bible app

  595. on your phone

  596. so you can

  597. have the Bible

  598. with you

  599. when you're not

  600. always carrying

  601. that paper copy

  602. with you right?

  603. I bet there's

  604. sometimes in your life

  605. in your day

  606. that you go around

  607. that you don't

  608. always have a

  609. copy of God's

  610. word on your

  611. person do you?

  612. But you probably

  613. have your phone

  614. don't you?

  615. So maybe

  616. there's an opportunity

  617. to download

  618. the Bible app

  619. that you can go

  620. read good devotionals

  621. on there.

  622. You can have

  623. reminders pop up

  624. that hey it's time

  625. to read God's word.

  626. You can have

  627. a verse of the day

  628. that always pops up

  629. that gets a little

  630. bit of scripture

  631. into your day.

  632. Maybe you need

  633. to have some

  634. memory verses

  635. like Emma

  636. was memorizing

  637. the word of God.

  638. Maybe we can

  639. take her cue

  640. and start learning

  641. some of God's word.

  642. Put a little sticky note

  643. up on your mirror

  644. that has a Bible verse

  645. on it.

  646. You need to equip

  647. yourself

  648. set aside a time

  649. set aside a schedule

  650. that will help you

  651. prepare

  652. to train.

  653. What do we need

  654. to do

  655. to equip ourselves

  656. to train

  657. as a follower

  658. of Jesus?

  659. And then number two

  660. how do we plan?

  661. And that's what

  662. we're talking about

  663. with scheduling.

  664. How many of you guys

  665. we asked last Sunday

  666. and I reminded everybody

  667. on Facebook this week

  668. and the Facebook group

  669. but I said

  670. I would love

  671. if some of our church

  672. would commit

  673. to a time

  674. to pray for God

  675. to move in our church

  676. and show them

  677. how they can help

  678. and have a key part

  679. in our church

  680. going forward

  681. this new thing

  682. that God's doing.

  683. And I was so blessed

  684. to see comment

  685. after comment

  686. pop up on that

  687. Facebook reminder

  688. that I put out

  689. said man I've been

  690. doing at 8 o'clock.

  691. I did it at 8 p.m.

  692. on Wednesday.

  693. I did it at 5.30

  694. when I wake up.

  695. All kinds of people

  696. were popping up

  697. saying I've been praying.

  698. I'm praying.

  699. We have to plan.

  700. It is not in our nature

  701. to say I'm going

  702. to dedicate my day

  703. to God.

  704. None of us

  705. are going to do that

  706. just by ourselves

  707. on our own.

  708. We're not going to do that.

  709. That's not in our flesh.

  710. That's not in our nature.

  711. We have to intentionally

  712. plan to do this.

  713. So if we're going

  714. to train for Jesus

  715. if we're going to train

  716. to see the next generation

  717. turn into Jesus followers

  718. if we're going to train

  719. to actually make a difference

  720. in the lives

  721. of our loved ones

  722. and beyond

  723. then we have to

  724. plan for it.

  725. We can't just

  726. be unhealthy

  727. and then hope

  728. that somehow

  729. we become healthy.

  730. We have to plan

  731. to be healthy

  732. don't we?

  733. You can't just change

  734. all your eating habits

  735. overnight without maybe

  736. going to the grocery store

  737. first.

  738. You've got to stock yourself

  739. with food that will be

  740. good for you.

  741. You can't just

  742. plan to

  743. go to bed

  744. at a certain time

  745. without maybe

  746. telling someone

  747. to remind you

  748. and setting things

  749. in place

  750. to help you

  751. not do the same

  752. habits that have

  753. been tearing you down.

  754. So what plans

  755. do we need to set

  756. in place

  757. to train

  758. for Jesus?

  759. So it leads us

  760. to these last two questions.

  761. What can you add

  762. and what can you change?

  763. maybe there's something

  764. that you're currently

  765. not doing

  766. that will help you

  767. train

  768. and you don't say

  769. I'm going to try

  770. to start doing this

  771. you say no

  772. I'm going to start

  773. training

  774. and this is how

  775. I'm going to do it

  776. and when I don't

  777. do it

  778. I recognize

  779. that it's okay

  780. because I'm not

  781. trying

  782. I'm what?

  783. Training

  784. that's right

  785. I'm not trying

  786. to be

  787. a follower of Jesus

  788. I'm training

  789. to be a follower

  790. of Jesus

  791. I'm not trying

  792. to be like Jesus

  793. I'm training

  794. to be like Jesus

  795. because all by myself

  796. I don't know how to

  797. so I need to let

  798. God train me

  799. in how to do this

  800. so is there something

  801. you need to add

  802. or is there something

  803. you need to change

  804. that will help you

  805. train

  806. to be like Jesus

  807. I love this quote

  808. man I've been using

  809. so many quotes

  810. from her recently

  811. Corrie Ten Boom

  812. a Dutch

  813. prisoner of war

  814. who was helping

  815. the Jewish people

  816. and was

  817. captured

  818. by her family

  819. she and her family

  820. were captured

  821. by the Nazis

  822. and put into

  823. terrible terrible

  824. concentration camp

  825. where she suffered

  826. greatly

  827. for Jesus

  828. but she gave us

  829. so many great quotes

  830. especially knowing

  831. what she went through

  832. she said God has

  833. plans not problems

  834. for our lives

  835. man the problems

  836. that she endured

  837. makes it so much

  838. more powerful

  839. to hear those words

  840. come from someone

  841. like her

  842. God has plans

  843. not problems

  844. for our lives

  845. the life of a Christian

  846. is an education

  847. for a higher service

  848. God is training

  849. you for something

  850. all of you

  851. every one of you

  852. last week we talked

  853. about how God's moving

  854. in the younger generation

  855. and he is

  856. we see evidence

  857. of that

  858. but God is training

  859. all of you

  860. for something

  861. younger

  862. middle aged

  863. older

  864. everyone

  865. every category

  866. God is training

  867. you for something

  868. otherwise

  869. he loves you

  870. so dearly

  871. he'll bring you

  872. home to heaven

  873. to get a jump start

  874. on all of eternity

  875. in that loving relationship

  876. that he's going to enjoy

  877. with all of us

  878. for all of eternity

  879. in his presence

  880. but if he's waiting

  881. on that

  882. because he's training

  883. you for something

  884. still

  885. he's still got a purpose

  886. for you

  887. you've still got a role

  888. to play

  889. he's training you

  890. for something

  891. incredible

  892. that he wants to do

  893. through you

  894. so don't try

  895. train

  896. we're talking about

  897. new life

  898. a fresh beginning

  899. with Jesus

  900. I pray

  901. that this concept

  902. of training

  903. not trying

  904. can help you

  905. begin fresh

  906. with Jesus

  907. I hope it can help

  908. you overcome

  909. something that has been

  910. dragging you down

  911. getting you down

  912. depressing you

  913. to understand

  914. that God does not

  915. expect perfection

  916. from you

  917. God does not expect

  918. you to be like him

  919. without his help

  920. he's going to help

  921. you

  922. let him train you

  923. let him pick you up

  924. when you fall

  925. let him set you back

  926. on your feet

  927. what would it look like

  928. for our church

  929. to be a church

  930. of people

  931. in training

  932. not trying

  933. what would it look like

  934. would we be a church

  935. that constantly

  936. sees people

  937. stirring those

  938. baptism waters

  939. giving evidence

  940. of life change

  941. would it be a church

  942. that when you

  943. speak the name

  944. of First Baptist Church

  945. in Henrietta Texas

  946. and beyond

  947. people would say

  948. I don't know

  949. that's a group

  950. of people

  951. that seems like

  952. they really care

  953. that's a group

  954. of people

  955. that seems like

  956. they really love

  957. Jesus

  958. I know that guy

  959. said a bad word

  960. on the job site

  961. but I know

  962. he instantly

  963. turned around

  964. and said

  965. man forgive me

  966. Jesus didn't

  967. want me to do that

  968. that's not honoring

  969. to God

  970. is it somebody

  971. that could be

  972. that their life

  973. could be changed

  974. by people

  975. who are training

  976. to be like Jesus

  977. and what does

  978. that mean

  979. for us

  980. what does that

  981. mean for our church

  982. does it mean

  983. that we cut

  984. some things

  985. that aren't

  986. purposefully

  987. moving us

  988. toward being

  989. like Jesus

  990. does it mean

  991. we add some

  992. things

  993. that we've been

  994. dropping the ball

  995. in

  996. does it mean

  997. that we

  998. change some

  999. things

  1000. tweak some

  1001. things

  1002. that can be

  1003. more effective

  1004. in leading us

  1005. to be

  1006. like Jesus

  1007. church

  1008. we're not

  1009. trying

  1010. we're what

  1011. we're training

  1012. so let's do

  1013. that

  1014. God I pray

  1015. that you would

  1016. speak to us

  1017. right now

  1018. I've spoken

  1019. your word

  1020. I've spoken

  1021. the truth

  1022. that I believe

  1023. you gave me

  1024. to preach

  1025. from your word

  1026. today

  1027. but I can't

  1028. individually

  1029. go to every

  1030. person in this

  1031. room and say

  1032. here's what

  1033. you need to

  1034. do

  1035. if I did

  1036. that I

  1037. would be

  1038. wrong

  1039. in whatever

  1040. I told

  1041. them

  1042. but you

  1043. individually

  1044. can speak

  1045. to each

  1046. of our

  1047. heart

  1048. and you

  1049. can show

  1050. us exactly

  1051. how we

  1052. need to

  1053. change

  1054. for you

  1055. how we

  1056. need to

  1057. train

  1058. you can

  1059. show us

  1060. the area

  1061. we've been

  1062. maybe hurting

  1063. ourselves

  1064. in reaching

  1065. our goal

  1066. you can

  1067. change our

  1068. hearts

  1069. you can

  1070. change our

  1071. minds

  1072. so I'd

  1073. ask that

  1074. you would

  1075. do that

  1076. God I

  1077. can't lead

  1078. this church

  1079. where it

  1080. needs to

  1081. go

  1082. but you

  1083. can

  1084. so I

  1085. pray that

  1086. you would

  1087. start with

  1088. me

  1089. that you

  1090. would start

  1091. with my

  1092. family

  1093. and you

  1094. would go

  1095. out to

  1096. our

  1097. church

  1098. staff

  1099. and our

  1100. volunteer

  1101. leadership

  1102. and go

  1103. on through

  1104. every heart

  1105. of everyone

  1106. in this

  1107. room

  1108. and everyone

  1109. watching

  1110. online

  1111. and everyone

  1112. who calls

  1113. this church

  1114. their home

  1115. that you

  1116. would change

  1117. us

  1118. to make

  1119. us

  1120. trainers

  1121. people

  1122. in training

  1123. for your

  1124. glory

  1125. because we

  1126. want to see

  1127. what thing

  1128. you're going

  1129. to do

  1130. God

  1131. you're raising

  1132. up new

  1133. life

  1134. all around

  1135. us

  1136. help us

  1137. to not

  1138. miss it

  1139. show us

  1140. what it

  1141. is

  1142. that God

  1143. has

  1144. for me

  1145. in my

  1146. house

  1147. would y'all

  1148. look at the

  1149. screen real quick

  1150. real quick

  1151. when God

  1152. is about to

  1153. do a mighty

  1154. new thing

  1155. we looked at

  1156. this last

  1157. week

  1158. he always

  1159. sets his

  1160. people praying

  1161. so can we

  1162. do that now

  1163. can we pray

  1164. can we

  1165. can we bow

  1166. our heads

  1167. together

  1168. and we're

  1169. about to enter

  1170. into the

  1171. Lord's

  1172. supper

  1173. it's a

  1174. perfect

  1175. appropriate

  1176. time

  1177. to reveal

  1178. our hearts

  1179. to God

  1180. and just

  1181. say God

  1182. I'm not

  1183. hiding anything

  1184. I'm not

  1185. holding anything

  1186. back

  1187. I'm an

  1188. open book

  1189. you show

  1190. me what

  1191. you have

  1192. for me

  1193. right now

  1194. it's going

  1195. to be

  1196. different

  1197. for every

  1198. one of

  1199. us

  1200. but you

  1201. show me

  1202. what shift

  1203. needs to

  1204. happen in

  1205. my thinking

  1206. what shift

  1207. needs to

  1208. happen in

  1209. my heart

  1210. God I'm a

  1211. vessel for

  1212. your service

  1213. you train

  1214. me

  1215. I'm not
