  1. All right, church. Well, thank you for being here and worship with us this morning.

  2. We are continuing on in our series, Meant for Good, Principles from the Life of Joseph.

  3. So if you would take the Word of God with me and go to Genesis chapter 40. While you're

    Genesis 40 chapter mention

  4. turning to Genesis 40, I want to give you a couple reminders. Our series text is found

  5. 10 chapters later in verse 20, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good to save

  6. many people. And let me tell you, that has been God's modus operandi, his MO, his standard operating

  7. procedure throughout all of his dealings with mankind. His Satan and evil and the powers of

  8. darkness meant it for evil, but God's will, God's sovereignty, God's power triumphs and wins the

  9. day. And he always uses it to save many people. So we see that played out in the life of Joseph.

  10. So a couple of weeks ago, we looked at Joseph back in Genesis 37, favored but fallen, favored

  11. but fallen. And our takeaway was that pride and envy are early warning signs in the, in the story of

  12. Joseph. But the start of his story that we see revealed to us in the book of Genesis points us

  13. to Jesus. Joseph is a type of Christ, an Old Testament figure that is not Jesus. He is not God,

  14. but certain things about him and the way he lives out his life in his faith point us forward to the

  15. coming of Jesus himself. So all throughout the Old Testament, we see these and Joseph is a prime

  16. example of it. Last Sunday, we talked about Joseph tempted and tried back in chapter 39.

  17. Joseph tempted and tried with Potiphar's wife and we see him thrown into prison then, unjustly accused.

  18. And the trials that God allows us to endure are always designed to draw us into closer relationship

  19. with him. God doesn't allow us to go through storms and difficulty on this earth just because he's mean,

  20. just because you've got it coming. God has a design for every problem, every trial he allows you to

  21. experience in your life. And it is always to draw us into a closer relationship with him. And we see

  22. that played out in the life of Joseph. So now this week, we're going to look at Joseph faithful,

  23. but forgotten. Faithful, but forgotten. Let's look at Genesis chapter 40 and verse 1. Genesis chapter 40

Genesis 40 chapter mention Genesis 40 chapter mention

  24. and verse 1. I'm reading from the Christian Standard Bible. After this, the king of Egypt's cupbearer and

  25. baker offended their master, the king of Egypt. So the scene shifts. We've been following Joseph

  26. from his early days as the favorite son of his mom and dad. Certainly didn't have a great relationship

  27. with his brothers. All these trials start to, he has to endure. He's sold into slavery, lands in the house

  28. of the chief of the guard, of Pharaoh's guard. And of course, he's tried to be seduced by his boss's wife,

  29. resists temptation, and then is unjustly accused, thrown into prison. So we've been following Joseph's

  30. trajectory. And now the scene shifts to Pharaoh's court. Pharaoh's trusted cupbearer and baker.

  31. The cupbearer was like his personal butler, the one who would taste of his cup before Pharaoh

  32. would drink from it to make sure it wasn't poisoned. So it had to be a very trusted official

  33. who would be allowed this position of absolute trust.

  34. And something happened with the cupbearer and the baker. Of course, the baker had to be an incredibly

  35. trusted position. He was in charge of baking Pharaoh's bread, literally the food he would eat.

  36. So these two guys, trusted members of Pharaoh's court, had offended their master. And Pharaoh was angry

  37. with his two officers, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. And he put them in the custody

  38. in the house of the captain of the guards. We don't know what happened here. We don't know why they

  39. offended Pharaoh. What happened? Was there politics involved? We don't know the backstory. But somehow,

  40. these guys crossed the line and Pharaoh threw them into prison. But it wasn't just in any prison.

  41. Who did it say it was? The prison in the house of the captain of the guards. Do we remember who the

  42. captain of the guards was? Anybody? A little louder? Yes, I knew it. I saw a couple of you mouthing it.

  43. Potiphar. Boy, God is always working behind the scenes, isn't he? He's always got a plan going here. So he

  44. throws these two guys, key important members of his court, into the same prison that Joseph is in.

  45. And what did Potiphar do with Pharaoh's two VIP prisoners here? What does it say? Verse 4,

  46. the captain of the guards assigned them to Joseph as their personal attendant. And they were in custody

  47. for some time. So isn't that interesting? That even though Potiphar was questioning if Joseph had

  48. betrayed him with his own wife, and yet we have enough reason to believe that maybe he doubted

  49. his wife's report of what had happened in that house. And he doubted them enough and had enough faith

  50. in how well Joseph had served him to say, listen, warden, I want you to put these two VIP prisoners

  51. coming from Pharaoh into the care of Joseph, one of your prisoners. Because I believe that they will be

  52. untouched in Joseph's care. I believe they will get through this time in prison just fine while Pharaoh

  53. figures out what to do with them. So verse 5, the king of Egypt's cupbearer and baker who were confined

  54. in the prison, each had a dream. Both had a dream on the same night. And each dream had its own meaning.

  55. Verse 6, when Joseph came to them in the morning, he saw that they looked distraught. These guys were upset.

  56. They had not slept well. They'd had these restless, fitful dreams that came from God himself.

  57. So he asked, Joseph asked Pharaoh's officers who were in custody with him in his master's house,

  58. why do you look so sad today? Well, maybe because they didn't sleep well. Maybe because they were in

  59. prison. I don't know. Can't imagine there was a lot of joy in these guys' lives at this season

  60. while they're behind bars. But they tell him, verse 8, we had dreams, they said to him,

  61. but there's no one to interpret them. Then Joseph said to them, watch this,

  62. don't interpretations belong to God? Tell me your dreams. Wow. Prison changed Joseph.

  63. Do you remember some other dreams in the story of Joseph that we have covered already?

  64. What happened? Did Joseph dream his own dreams? And then he went and told them to his family?

  65. But there's no record of him having any kind of interpretation from God for those dreams back

  66. then. His father even made some kind of attempt at discerning the meaning of Joseph's dreams.

  67. Of course, couldn't understand what they were about. So Joseph went from this 17-year-old boy,

  68. the favorite of his father's house, who's dreaming these dreams from God and doesn't know how to

  69. interpret them, to now being, just a few years later seemingly, in prison with two key members of

  70. Pharaoh's court telling him their dreams. And immediately his response is, let's go to God for this.

  71. I believe that God has the interpretation of these dreams. Tell me your dreams and I'll take them to God for you.

  72. Prison had changed Joseph. These experiences, captivity had changed Joseph. These

  73. really difficult struggles that Joseph had had to endure had matured him and his faith in God,

  74. his relationship with God, to the point where now he was certain that God would bless him with what was

  75. needed for that moment. So he was in tune with the Holy Spirit of God. He was locked in.

  76. And God must have impressed on his heart in that moment, Joseph,

  77. I will interpret these dreams. Ask for the dreams. So what happened?

  78. Chapter 37, he couldn't interpret his own dreams. But now God has grown his faith through suffering and

  79. is using him to interpret the dreams of others. And what do we see from him? Joseph wasn't using that

  80. to draw attention to himself. He wasn't saying, hey guys, God has given me this special gift.

  81. Watch this. Watch this magic trick here. Watch this parlor trick. You tell me your dreams,

  82. I'll tell you what they mean. That was a big, big deal back in Egyptian culture. They even wrote a

  83. textbook on it eventually, on how to interpret dreams. Of course, all the methods that they used

  84. were sketchy at best trying to use what little they knew of math and science and probability and

  85. cause and effect to try to interpret dreams. But in reality, they had no clue, right? Because no one can

  86. actually interpret dreams except for God. So, Joseph pointed them to God. He pointed the heathen

  87. to God. This isn't the only time in scriptures we see this specific thing happening. Would you look

  88. over at Daniel chapter 2 and verse 26? And actually, I've got it on the screen here, but because Daniel

    Daniel 2 chapter mention

  89. also pointed the heathen to God. The king said to Daniel, so jump several books up and we see this

  90. tale unfold where King Nebuchadnezzar is speaking to Daniel. He's troubled by this dream and Daniel is one

  91. of his advisors. And he says, are you able to tell me the dream I had in its interpretation? Because

  92. Daniel had talked to all of his other wise men. All these other men who maybe had read that old

  93. Egyptian textbook on how to how to interpret dreams and it had left them no better equipped than they

  94. were before and they couldn't help the king at all. And so, he says to God's servant Daniel, are you able

  95. to tell me the dream? And Daniel says to the king, no wise man, no medium, no magician, no diviner is able

  96. to make known to the king the mystery he asked about. I'm sorry, king, no one can tell you your dream.

  97. But it doesn't stop there. Verse 28, but there is a God in heaven.

  98. There is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries and he has let King Nebuchadnezzar know what will

  99. happen in the last days. And he goes on to give him the interpretation from God about the dream.

  100. This is not the only time in the story of Joseph here that we see God's servant point the heathen

  101. back to him. And y'all, can I just draw your attention to that phrase here?

  102. Whatever you're going through, whatever struggle comes up in your life that you can't seem to figure

  103. out a path forward, you can't seem to find a way to get over it or around it or under it or through it,

  104. may I remind you that there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries.

  105. If you walk closely with him,

  106. if you strengthen your relationship with him,

  107. then he will often reveal the secrets to you as well.

  108. He'll help you get through

  109. those dark nights. He'll help you get through those scary storms.

  110. He'll help you get through

  111. those moments when you feel like you are a little bit like Joseph

  112. sitting on the inside of a prison cell,

  113. forgotten by your family, forgotten by your friends,

  114. forgotten by your employers, your co-workers.

  115. Everyone in your life has forgotten you,

  116. but there is a God in heaven.

  117. And you know what Joseph did?

  118. He didn't use that fact just for his own comfort.

  119. He used that fact to point others back to God.

  120. He pointed the heathen to God.

  121. So I'm asking you, church,

  122. are you pointing the heathen to God?

  123. Anyone in your life, you say,

  124. man, all my friends are church people.

  125. All my friends already love Jesus.

  126. Well, maybe it's time

  127. to start to introduce yourself

  128. to some of those people you don't go to church with.

  129. Some of those people in your circle

  130. that you're not sure if

  131. they have a personal relationship with Jesus.

  132. By the way, just because somebody goes to church

  133. doesn't mean they have a personal relationship with Jesus, right?

  134. That's certainly true.

  135. Whether it's a collection of people at Walmart

  136. or Cowboy Stadium or the church house,

  137. it doesn't mean that everybody in there is Christians.

  138. There's going to be a hodgepodge of hypocrites

  139. and judgmental sinners,

  140. and that's who we are regardless of where we go,

  141. and only by the grace of God

  142. can any of us be any different than that.

  143. So, there is a God of heaven,

  144. and we have the responsibility and the privilege

  145. of pointing the heathen to him.

  146. So, what did he do?

  147. Back in Genesis 40,

  148. let's pick it up in verse 9.

  149. Verse 9.

  150. So, the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph.

  151. In my dream,

  152. there was a vine in front of me.

  153. On the vine were three branches.

  154. As soon as it budded,

  155. its blossoms came out,

  156. and its clusters ripened into grapes.

  157. Pharaoh's cup was in my hand,

  158. and I took the grapes,

  159. squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup,

  160. and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.

  161. Weird dream.

  162. Can't say I've ever had anything like it.

  163. How about y'all?

  164. Nobody?

  165. Nobody?

  166. So, Joseph immediately gets the interpretation from God.

  167. Wow, God came through in just the right moment.

  168. He always does.

  169. He always does.

  170. Sometimes we feel like it may not be the right moment.

  171. Sometimes we don't get an answer quite as quickly as Joseph did.

  172. But in that moment,

  173. God knew Joseph needed that answer right then,

  174. and he gives it to him.

  175. This is its interpretation.

  176. Joseph said to him,

  177. the three branches are three days.

  178. In just three days,

  179. Pharaoh will lift up your head,

  180. otherwise known as letting him out of prison.

  181. Restore you to your position.

  182. You will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand

  183. the way you used to when you were his cupbearer.

  184. But when all goes well for you,

  185. remember that I was with you.

  186. Please show kindness to me

  187. by mentioning me to Pharaoh

  188. and get me out of this prison.

  189. For I was kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews,

  190. and even here I've done nothing

  191. that they should have put me in this dungeon.

  192. So Joseph, by faith,

  193. receives this interpretation from God.

  194. Gives glory to God

  195. by being able to reveal the secret of this dream

  196. to this Egyptian officer.

  197. And then he can't help but throw that last part in.

  198. By the way, when this happens,

  199. because he had enough faith to believe

  200. that what God said was going to happen

  201. would happen.

  202. Any of us ever been there?

  203. Have enough faith to believe

  204. that what God said will happen

  205. will come to pass?

  206. Sometimes it's hard, right?

  207. The Bible talks about

  208. if you ask in faith,

  209. believing,

  210. and Joseph believed it would come to pass.

  211. And so he said,

  212. when this happens for you,

  213. remember me too,

  214. because I didn't really do anything wrong,

  215. and I'm stuck here in this prison,

  216. don't forget about me.

  217. Back in verse 16 of chapter 40,

  218. when the baker,

  219. the chief baker,

  220. saw that the interpretation,

  221. the butler,

  222. the cupbearer's interpretation

  223. was positive,

  224. he said to Joseph,

  225. well, hey man,

  226. I also had a dream.

  227. Three baskets of white bread

  228. were on my head.

  229. In the top basket

  230. were all sorts of baked goods

  231. for Pharaoh.

  232. But the birds were eating them

  233. out of the basket on my head.

  234. Joseph replies,

  235. this is its interpretation,

  236. the three baskets are three days,

  237. just like the other guy.

  238. In just three days,

  239. Pharaoh will lift up your head

  240. from off of you.

  241. Did you catch that?

  242. Lift up your head from off of you

  243. and hang you on a tree.

  244. Then the birds will eat the flesh

  245. from your body.

  246. A little different interpretation there.

  247. A little, right?

  248. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, baker,

  249. but he doesn't like your bread.

  250. On the third day,

  251. well, before we get there,

  252. of course it happened,

  253. just like Joseph said.

  254. Now,

  255. what we see from Joseph,

  256. without dwelling on these two dreams

  257. and what they could have meant

  258. and see if there's anything

  259. more significant about these two dreams

  260. with these two men,

  261. what I think the real takeaway here

  262. is seeing how Joseph's faith grew.

  263. Joseph exhibited consistent growth

  264. in his walk with God.

  265. He started off believing in God.

  266. He was a descendant of Abraham.

  267. We talked about the Abrahamic covenant last week,

  268. that promise that God made to Abraham

  269. and the generations

  270. that would follow after him

  271. to preserve them,

  272. to bless them,

  273. to make them succeed.

  274. And we see so much drama,

  275. so much turmoil

  276. in the family of Abraham

  277. despite this Abrahamic covenant,

  278. this promise from God.

  279. Joseph was not exempt.

  280. He was going through so much trouble.

  281. And yet,

  282. all throughout the trouble,

  283. as each new tragedy,

  284. each new disaster

  285. would play out in his life,

  286. man,

  287. I don't think the biggest temptation

  288. that Joseph ever faced

  289. was from his boss's wife.

  290. I think the biggest temptation

  291. was depression

  292. when he was let down

  293. time and time again by people.

  294. His dad let him down

  295. by showing all this favoritism

  296. to him as a child

  297. that set him up for a fall.

  298. His brothers obviously let him down

  299. when they wanted to kill him

  300. and then settled for selling him

  301. to slave traders.

  302. And even in Egypt,

  303. when he thought,

  304. finally I'm working for an unbiased

  305. third party

  306. and at least this heathen,

  307. Potiphar,

  308. sees the value in me

  309. and has promoted me.

  310. And now he let him down too

  311. when his boss's wife compromised

  312. her marriage,

  313. tried to seduce him.

  314. Time and time again,

  315. he's let down by others.

  316. But we never see him

  317. go into a funk.

  318. We never see him lose

  319. his faith.

  320. We see him continually grow.

  321. And that's another type of Christ.

  322. Because you know who else did that?

  323. In a much greater way?

  324. A much more perfect way?

  325. An absolutely perfect way?

  326. Jesus himself.

  327. Luke 2.52,

  328. Jesus grew in wisdom

  329. and in stature

  330. and in favor

  331. with God

  332. and all the people.

  333. And that's the challenge

  334. for you and for me.

  335. How much have we grown?

  336. We've got people

  337. sitting in this room right now

  338. who have been followers of Jesus

  339. for just a very short time.

  340. And then we've got people

  341. who were saved

  342. and put their faith in Jesus

  343. decades ago.

  344. We've got the whole spectrum

  345. here in this room.

  346. But my question for all of you

  347. and for myself

  348. is how much did you grow

  349. with your walk with Jesus

  350. this year?

  351. How much have you changed

  352. this year?

  353. Or somewhere along the way

  354. did we slow down?

  355. Did we stop growing?

  356. Did we just settle for

  357. well this is who I am?

  358. You see Joseph

  359. learned how to work hard.

  360. Joseph learned

  361. how to administrate well.

  362. Joseph learned

  363. how to resist temptation.

  364. He learned how to point others to God.

  365. He learned how to powerfully pray

  366. and receive wisdom from God.

  367. So are you still growing consistently

  368. or have you just made peace

  369. with the cracks

  370. in your own foundation?

  371. Y'all we've all got cracks

  372. at our foundation.

  373. But God's will

  374. is that we would cease

  375. to rely on our foundation

  376. and build our lives

  377. on the rock

  378. the solid rock

  379. which is Jesus Christ.

  380. And when we do that

  381. then he starts to seal up

  382. the cracks

  383. in those foundation.

  384. He wants to be

  385. your foundation.

  386. and then he wants

  387. to help you seal those cracks

  388. and keep out the enemy

  389. whose only goal

  390. is to seek

  391. and to kill

  392. and to destroy

  393. what God is building

  394. in your life.

  395. So,

  396. when did we stop growing

  397. in Christ?

  398. even in the hardest

  399. of times

  400. in the most difficult

  401. of circumstances

  402. Joseph

  403. kept growing.

  404. But when did we become

  405. okay

  406. with our weaknesses

  407. and then force

  408. everybody around us

  409. just to be okay

  410. with our weaknesses too?

  411. That is just who I am.

  412. God loves you

  413. with no strings attached.

  414. But God loves you so much

  415. he doesn't want you

  416. to stay where you are.

  417. He wants to grow you.

  418. So if you're not growing

  419. maybe it's because

  420. you've drifted apart

  421. a little bit.

  422. You've got to get back

  423. to pursuing the person

  424. of Jesus

  425. becoming more

  426. like him.

  427. Let's get back

  428. to our text

  429. and we'll be done.

  430. Genesis 40

  431. and verse 20.

  432. On the third day

  433. which was Pharaoh's birthday

  434. he gave a feast

  435. for all his servants.

  436. See, God knew

  437. that the third day

  438. the three days from then

  439. would be Pharaoh's birthday

  440. and he would give a feast.

  441. And he let both those

  442. political prisoners

  443. the ones in captivity

  444. the chief cupbearer

  445. and the chief baker

  446. he led him out of prison

  447. for the feast.

  448. But what happened?

  449. He elevated the chief cupbearer

  450. and the chief baker

  451. among his servants

  452. and everything went great

  453. with the cupbearer.

  454. He restored him

  455. to his position

  456. as cupbearer

  457. and he placed the cup

  458. in Pharaoh's hand

  459. just like he used to.

  460. But it didn't go well

  461. with the chief baker.

  462. Pharaoh hanged

  463. the chief baker

  464. just as Joseph

  465. had explained to them

  466. yet the chief cupbearer

  467. did not remember Joseph.

  468. He forgot him.

  469. We're going to get to that part

  470. in just a moment

  471. but before we get there

  472. let me ask you this.

  473. Who can you count on?

  474. Amen.

  475. Amen.

  476. For all you English people

  477. whom can you count on?

  478. On whom can you count?

  479. But I just thought

  480. that sounded a lot better

  481. so we'll roll with it.

  482. Who can you count on?

  483. Well he couldn't count

  484. on the cupbearer

  485. could he?

  486. Even though he came

  487. through for the guy.

  488. Verse 14

  489. back in verse 14

  490. you remember what he said?

  491. When all goes well for you

  492. remember that I was with you.

  493. Show kindness to me

  494. by mentioning me to Pharaoh

  495. and get me out of this prison.

  496. And then back in verse 23

  497. the chief cupbearer

  498. did not remember Joseph.

  499. Forgot him.

  500. Who can you count on

  501. except God?

  502. Psalm 118

  503. reminds us of that

  504. in the New Living Translation

  505. it says

  506. it's better to take refuge

  507. in the Lord

  508. than to trust in people.

  509. Anybody say amen to that?

  510. It's better

  511. to take refuge

  512. in the Lord

  513. than to trust in people.

  514. Isn't that right?

  515. It is better

  516. to run to our hiding place

  517. which is Jesus Christ

  518. than it is

  519. to put your trust

  520. in mankind.

  521. Sometimes

  522. people will come

  523. through for you.

  524. Usually

  525. it's because of love.

  526. Usually

  527. it's because of

  528. people that maybe

  529. are walking closely

  530. with Jesus

  531. and he helps them

  532. come through.

  533. But

  534. often times

  535. even those

  536. of us

  537. who call ourselves

  538. followers of Jesus

  539. will let each other down.

  540. We will.

  541. And so we must

  542. always

  543. run to Jesus

  544. as our hiding place.

  545. As our ultimate

  546. place of trust.

  547. The truth

  548. I want you to remember

  549. that we can learn

  550. from Genesis 40.

  551. God

  552. will never

  553. forget

  554. me.

  555. God

  556. will never

  557. forget

  558. me.

  559. If you can

  560. instill that

  561. into your brain

  562. God

  563. will never

  564. forget

  565. me.

  566. There's two sides

  567. to that.

  568. One is pure

  569. comfort.

  570. God

  571. thank you so much

  572. that no matter

  573. how bleak

  574. things look

  575. on this earth

  576. no matter

  577. how bad

  578. it gets

  579. I know

  580. you haven't

  581. forgotten me

  582. I know

  583. you're still

  584. with me

  585. I know

  586. you still

  587. care for me

  588. I know

  589. you'll provide

  590. for me

  591. I know

  592. you'll make

  593. a way

  594. through the

  595. storm

  596. I know

  597. you'll make

  598. a way

  599. through the

  600. wilderness

  601. I know

  602. that you

  603. will come

  604. through

  605. time and

  606. time again

  607. and the

  608. other side

  609. of the

  610. coin

  611. is this

  612. God

  613. never

  614. forgets

  615. about you

  616. so quit

  617. running

  618. from him

  619. sometimes

  620. we like

  621. to think

  622. that we've

  623. strayed

  624. so far

  625. away

  626. from God

  627. that he's

  628. forgotten

  629. about us

  630. man

  631. you don't

  632. know what

  633. I've done

  634. yeah I used

  635. to go to

  636. church

  637. how many times

  638. I've heard

  639. this from

  640. people

  641. yeah I used

  642. to I heard

  643. all that

  644. when I was

  645. a kid

  646. but then I

  647. got into

  648. some stuff

  649. and my

  650. faith just

  651. isn't what

  652. it used

  653. to be

  654. yeah but

  655. God is

  656. still who

  657. he used

  658. to be

  659. and he

  660. still loves

  661. you

  662. he still

  663. cares

  664. he never

  665. changed

  666. he never

  667. moved

  668. and he's

  669. always

  670. right there

  671. he has

  672. not

  673. forgotten

  674. about you

  675. whether you

  676. grow your

  677. faith like

  678. Joseph

  679. and God

  680. uses you

  681. powerfully

  682. every step

  683. of the way

  684. even through

  685. the dark

  686. times or

  687. whether you

  688. fail

  689. and you

  690. fall

  691. and you

  692. crumble

  693. God

  694. still

  695. loves

  696. God

  697. doesn't

  698. forget

  699. and he's

  700. ready to

  701. pick you

  702. back up

  703. and put

  704. you back

  705. on the

  706. Joseph

  707. path

  708. says let's

  709. go

  710. come on

  711. I got a

  712. great job

  713. for you

  714. if you've

  715. read ahead

  716. in the story

  717. you know

  718. that God

  719. had an

  720. amazing

  721. plan

  722. for Joseph

  723. but he

  724. had to

  725. get him

  726. there

  727. first

  728. so while

  729. it seemed

  730. like everyone

  731. had forgotten

  732. God

  733. will never

  734. forget

  735. us

  736. we talked

  737. about this

  738. last week

  739. God's

  740. delays

  741. are not

  742. God's

  743. denials

  744. Joseph

  745. had to

  746. be delayed

  747. yet again

  748. yet again

  749. but it

  750. wasn't

  751. God

  752. saying

  753. no

  754. it

  755. wasn't

  756. God

  757. saying

  758. Joseph

  759. remember

  760. those

  761. dreams

  762. I

  763. gave

  764. you

  765. give

  766. up

  767. on

  768. them

  769. they're

  770. not

  771. going

  772. to

  773. come

  774. true

  775. life

  776. got

  777. too

  778. rough

  779. too

  780. many

  781. people

  782. turned

  783. against

  784. you

  785. things

  786. fell

  787. apart

  788. that's

  789. never

  790. what

  791. God's

  792. message

  793. is

  794. God's

  795. message

  796. is

  797. always

  798. no

  799. I

  800. am

  801. greater

  802. I

  803. am

  804. stronger

  805. than

  806. anyone

  807. who

  808. could

  809. rise

  810. up

  811. against

  812. you

  813. no

  814. one

  815. can

  816. pluck

  817. you

  818. out

  819. of

  820. my

  821. hand

  822. so

  823. God's

  824. delays

  825. are

  826. not

  827. God's

  828. denials

  829. and the

  830. truth is

  831. in the

  832. background

  833. while we're

  834. waiting

  835. God

  836. is

  837. working

  838. while

  839. I'm

  840. waiting

  841. God

  842. is

  843. always

  844. working

  845. God

  846. never

  847. stops

  848. working

  849. you see

  850. you and

  851. I

  852. might

  853. be

  854. in a

  855. time

  856. of

  857. delay

  858. we

  859. might

  860. be

  861. in a

  862. time

  863. of

  864. waiting

  865. we

  866. might

  867. be

  868. in

  869. between

  870. time

  871. of

  872. life

  873. and

  874. sometimes

  875. it

  876. might

  877. look

  878. really

  879. bad

  880. like

  881. Joseph

  882. sitting

  883. in

  884. a

  885. prison

  886. or

  887. sometimes

  888. it

  889. just

  890. might

  891. mean

  892. you're

  893. in

  894. a

  895. dead

  896. end

  897. job

  898. and

  899. you

  900. can't

  901. figure

  902. out

  903. how

  904. to

  905. get

  906. out

  907. of

  908. it

  909. it

  910. might

  911. look

  912. like

  913. you

  914. never

  915. saw

  916. the

  917. career

  918. that

  919. you

  920. envisioned

  921. for

  922. yourself

  923. or

  924. maybe

  925. the

  926. relationships

  927. you

  928. envisioned

  929. for

  930. yourself

  931. and

  932. things

  933. just

  934. aren't

  935. going

  936. exactly

  937. how

  938. you

  939. pictured

  940. but

  941. just

  942. know

  943. that

  944. while

  945. you're

  946. waiting

  947. God

  948. is

  949. working

  950. behind

  951. the

  952. scenes

  953. Joseph

  954. was

  955. favored

  956. by

  957. his

  958. father

  959. why

  960. man

  961. it

  962. goes

  963. all

  964. the

  965. way

  966. back

  967. without

  968. taking

  969. all

  970. the

  971. time

  972. to

  973. get

  974. into

  975. it

  976. it

  977. goes

  978. back

  979. to

  980. when

  981. his

  982. father

  983. Jacob

  984. fell

  985. in

  986. love

  987. with

  988. a

  989. girl

  990. named

  991. Rachel

  992. and

  993. wanted

  994. to

  995. marry

  996. her

  997. and

  998. the

  999. future

  1000. father

  1001. in

  1002. law

  1003. pulled

  1004. a

  1005. switcheroo

  1006. at

  1007. the

  1008. last

  1009. second

  1010. and

  1011. she

  1012. had

  1013. a

  1014. little

  1015. drama

  1016. plays out

  1017. and

  1018. it's

  1019. Joseph

  1020. and

  1021. so

  1022. we

  1023. kind

  1024. of

  1025. get

  1026. the

  1027. idea

  1028. of

  1029. why

  1030. he

  1031. was

  1032. Jacob's

  1033. favorite

  1034. and

  1035. probably

  1036. his

  1037. mama's

  1038. favorite

  1039. too

  1040. right

  1041. but

  1042. God

  1043. had

  1044. planned

  1045. all

  1046. this

  1047. because

  1048. the

  1049. pieces

  1050. had

  1051. to

  1052. fall

  1053. into

  1054. place

  1055. and

  1056. then

  1057. he

  1058. allowed

  1059. Joseph

  1060. to

  1061. be

  1062. betrayed

  1063. by

  1064. his

  1065. brothers

  1066. because

  1067. if

  1068. the

  1069. brothers

  1070. had

  1071. never

  1072. betrayed

  1073. Joseph

  1074. then

  1075. he

  1076. wouldn't

  1077. have

  1078. been

  1079. sold

  1080. to

  1081. the

  1082. slave

  1083. traders

  1084. and

  1085. made

  1086. his

  1087. way

  1088. to

  1089. Egypt

  1090. where

  1091. he

  1092. got

  1093. promoted

  1094. by

  1095. Potiphar

  1096. from

  1097. the

  1098. slave

  1099. and

  1100. how

  1101. unlikely

  1102. was

  1103. that

  1104. in

  1105. his

  1106. probably

  1107. his

  1108. first

  1109. year

  1110. of

  1111. service

  1112. as

  1113. a

  1114. slave

  1115. and

  1116. he

  1117. gets

  1118. promoted

  1119. to

  1120. the

  1121. head

  1122. of

  1123. household

  1124. and

  1125. everything

  1126. is

  1127. going

  1128. great

  1129. and

  1130. then

  1131. boom

  1132. the

  1133. roller

  1134. coaster

  1135. goes

  1136. back

  1137. down

  1138. again

  1139. and

  1140. he

  1141. is

  1142. wrongly

  1143. accused

  1144. by

  1145. the

  1146. wife

  1147. and

  1148. it's

  1149. like

  1150. man

  1151. I

  1152. can't

  1153. catch

  1154. a

  1155. break

  1156. around

  1157. here

  1158. when

  1159. it

  1160. rains

  1161. it

  1162. pours

  1163. right

  1164. all

  1165. the

  1166. things

  1167. that

  1168. we

  1169. say

  1170. Joseph

  1171. lived

  1172. lands

  1173. in

  1174. prison

  1175. but

  1176. he's

  1177. not

  1178. killed

  1179. because

  1180. God

  1181. had

  1182. a

  1183. plan

  1184. Joseph

  1185. could

  1186. go

  1187. to

  1188. prison

  1189. but

  1190. not

  1191. die

  1192. and

  1193. then

  1194. he

  1195. earns

  1196. the

  1197. favor

  1198. of

  1199. the

  1200. warden

  1201. and

  1202. then

  1203. he

  1204. gets

  1205. free

  1206. range

  1207. in

  1208. the

  1209. prison

  1210. free

  1211. range

  1212. chicken

  1213. is

  1214. the

  1215. best

  1216. right

  1217. this

  1218. was

  1219. free

  1220. range

  1221. prisoner

  1222. I

  1223. don't

  1224. know

  1225. what

  1226. that

  1227. means

  1228. but

  1229. I

  1230. what

  1231. if

  1232. he

  1233. hadn't

  1234. worried

  1235. about

  1236. it

  1237. but

  1238. God

  1239. was

  1240. working

  1241. behind

  1242. the

  1243. scenes

  1244. while

  1245. Joseph

  1246. was

  1247. waiting

  1248. and

  1249. then

  1250. he

  1251. had

  1252. to

  1253. have

  1254. the

  1255. interpretation

  1256. of

  1257. the

  1258. dreams

  1259. right

  1260. then

  1261. right

  1262. then

  1263. and

  1264. what

  1265. happened

  1266. was

  1267. soon

  1268. as

  1269. Pharaoh

  1270. needed

  1271. something

  1272. the

  1273. butler

  1274. remembered

  1275. Joseph

  1276. right

  1277. no

  1278. yet

  1279. again

  1280. another

  1281. delay

  1282. another

  1283. delay

  1284. and

  1285. if

  1286. you

  1287. want

  1288. to

  1289. know

  1290. what

  1291. happens

  1292. next

  1293. you

  1294. got

  1295. to

  1296. come

  1297. back

  1298. next

  1299. week

  1300. but

  1301. Joseph's

  1302. faith

  1303. made

  1304. him

  1305. faithful

  1306. Joseph's

  1307. faith

  1308. made

  1309. him

  1310. faithful

  1311. guys

  1312. there's

  1313. no

  1314. secret

  1315. I wish

  1316. I could

  1317. tell

  1318. you

  1319. some

  1320. sort

  1321. of

  1322. secret

  1323. ingredient

  1324. for how

  1325. to stay

  1326. faithful

  1327. through the

  1328. storms

  1329. of this

  1330. life

  1331. but

  1332. it's

  1333. daily

  1334. pursuing

  1335. the

  1336. person

  1337. of

  1338. Jesus

  1339. strengthening

  1340. our

  1341. faith

  1342. in

  1343. him

  1344. that's

  1345. what

  1346. allowed

  1347. Joseph

  1348. to

  1349. sustain

  1350. to

  1351. not

  1352. lose

  1353. his

  1354. faith

  1355. to

  1356. stay

  1357. faithful

  1358. to

  1359. God

  1360. in

  1361. the

  1362. middle

  1363. of

  1364. all

  1365. of

  1366. this

  1367. and

  1368. then

  1369. Joseph's

  1370. trials

  1371. made

  1372. him

  1373. grow

  1374. he

  1375. didn't

  1376. just

  1377. stay

  1378. faithful

  1379. to

  1380. God

  1381. he

  1382. didn't

  1383. just

  1384. lose

  1385. his

  1386. faith

  1387. he

  1388. got

  1389. better

  1390. he

  1391. grew

  1392. he

  1393. improved

  1394. he

  1395. was

  1396. a

  1397. better

  1398. Christian

  1399. after

  1400. he

  1401. came

  1402. through

  1403. these

  1404. storms

  1405. than

  1406. before

  1407. God

  1408. was

  1409. using

  1410. him

  1411. more

  1412. powerfully

  1413. than

  1414. ever

  1415. before

  1416. can

  1417. we

  1418. say

  1419. the

  1420. same

  1421. thing

  1422. let's

  1423. look

  1424. at

  1425. James

  1426. chapter

  1427. one

  1428. real

  1429. quick

  1430. we

  1431. read

  1432. it

  1433. last

  1434. week

  1435. consider

  1436. it

  1437. a

  1438. great

  1439. joy

  1440. when

  1441. you

  1442. go

  1443. through

  1444. these

  1445. trials

  1446. because

  1447. you

  1448. know

  1449. that

  1450. when

  1451. your

  1452. faith

  1453. is

  1454. tested

  1455. it

  1456. produces

  1457. endurance

  1458. so let

  1459. endurance

  1460. have

  1461. its

  1462. full

  1463. effect

  1464. so you

  1465. can

  1466. become

  1467. mature

  1468. and

  1469. complete

  1470. lacking

  1471. nothing

  1472. a few

  1473. chapters

  1474. over

  1475. James

  1476. says

  1477. brothers

  1478. and sisters

  1479. be patient

  1480. until the

  1481. Lord's

  1482. coming

  1483. see how

  1484. the farmer

  1485. waits for

  1486. the precious

  1487. fruit of

  1488. the earth

  1489. we just

  1490. got some

  1491. precious

  1492. fruit of

  1493. the earth

  1494. last night

  1495. didn't we

  1496. thank God

  1497. for it

  1498. we got

  1499. the rain

  1500. and he

  1501. is patient

  1502. with it

  1503. until he

  1504. receives

  1505. the early

  1506. and late

  1507. rains

  1508. you must

  1509. also be

  1510. patient

  1511. strengthen

  1512. your hearts

  1513. because the

  1514. Lord's

  1515. coming

  1516. is near

  1517. so my

  1518. message

  1519. to you

  1520. folks

  1521. is

  1522. strengthen

  1523. your

  1524. hearts

  1525. during

  1526. this

  1527. in

  1528. the

  1529. time

  1530. season

  1531. during

  1532. this

  1533. waiting

  1534. period

  1535. strengthen

  1536. your

  1537. hearts

  1538. and then

  1539. in verse

  1540. nine

  1541. my

  1542. brothers

  1543. and sisters

  1544. don't

  1545. complain

  1546. about

  1547. one

  1548. another

  1549. so you

  1550. won't

  1551. be

  1552. judged

  1553. look

  1554. the judge

  1555. stands

  1556. at the

  1557. door

  1558. God

  1559. is

  1560. always

  1561. there

  1562. he's

  1563. always

  1564. watching

  1565. he's

  1566. always

  1567. working

  1568. so don't

  1569. be

  1570. turning

  1571. on one

  1572. another

  1573. that's

  1574. what we

  1575. do

  1576. sometimes

  1577. when life

  1578. gets

  1579. rough

  1580. when we're

  1581. in those

  1582. waiting

  1583. periods

  1584. we turn

  1585. on each

  1586. other

  1587. we start

  1588. sniping

  1589. at each

  1590. other

  1591. we start

  1592. taking shots

  1593. at one

  1594. another

  1595. we start

  1596. trying to

  1597. tear each

  1598. other

  1599. down

  1600. and James

  1601. knows

  1602. it's

  1603. going to

  1604. happen

  1605. so he

  1606. says

  1607. don't

  1608. complain

  1609. about

  1610. each

  1611. other

  1612. verse

  1613. 10

  1614. instead

  1615. brothers

  1616. and sisters

  1617. take

  1618. the

  1619. prophets

  1620. who

  1621. spoke

  1622. in the

  1623. Lord's

  1624. name

  1625. as an

  1626. example

  1627. of

  1628. suffering

  1629. and

  1630. patience

  1631. see

  1632. we

  1633. count

  1634. as

  1635. blessed

  1636. those

  1637. who

  1638. have

  1639. endured

  1640. well

  1641. we

  1642. know

  1643. Joseph's

  1644. going

  1645. to be

  1646. blessed

  1647. so we

  1648. count

  1649. him as

  1650. this

  1651. struggle

  1652. so our

  1653. takeaway

  1654. for today

  1655. is let

  1656. this season

  1657. of divine

  1658. delay

  1659. make a

  1660. discernible

  1661. difference

  1662. in how

  1663. you live

  1664. your faith

  1665. a difference

  1666. that we can

  1667. discern

  1668. a difference

  1669. that people

  1670. can notice

  1671. a difference

  1672. where your

  1673. husband or

  1674. wife says

  1675. you seem

  1676. happier

  1677. even though

  1678. nothing really

  1679. changed in

  1680. our circumstances

  1681. you're

  1682. changing

  1683. what's

  1684. going on

  1685. with you

  1686. well

  1687. just trying

  1688. to learn

  1689. what Joseph

  1690. learned

  1691. and let

  1692. this season

  1693. of delay

  1694. that seems

  1695. to be coming

  1696. from God

  1697. make a

  1698. difference

  1699. in how

  1700. I live

  1701. my faith

  1702. not just

  1703. how I

  1704. say I

  1705. have faith

  1706. but how

  1707. I live

  1708. it out

  1709. maybe

  1710. God can

  1711. use you

  1712. to point

  1713. the heathen

  1714. to him

  1715. maybe God

  1716. can use

  1717. you to

  1718. help

  1719. somebody

  1720. else

  1721. maybe God

  1722. is setting

  1723. you up

  1724. for your

  1725. greatest

  1726. days yet

  1727. as part

  1728. of his

  1729. plan for

  1730. you

  1731. I don't

  1732. know what

  1733. God has

  1734. for you

  1735. but I

  1736. know this

  1737. he's got

  1738. something

  1739. or we'd

  1740. all be

  1741. home with

  1742. him right

  1743. now

  1744. but the

  1745. reason he's

  1746. delaying it

  1747. the reason

  1748. for this

  1749. waiting period

  1750. God has

  1751. something

  1752. great

  1753. for us

  1754. so let's

  1755. grow our

  1756. faith together

  1757. Lord Jesus

  1758. we ask it

  1759. right now

  1760. in the name

  1761. of Jesus

  1762. we come to

  1763. you

  1764. we approach

  1765. your throne

  1766. and we say

  1767. God

  1768. make us

  1769. like Joseph

  1770. that when

  1771. our faith

  1772. is tested

  1773. we would

  1774. not only

  1775. pass the

  1776. test

  1777. but our

  1778. faith would

  1779. be grown

  1780. where those

  1781. around us

  1782. can see

  1783. you're

  1784. becoming

  1785. more like

  1786. Jesus

  1787. whatever

  1788. those changes

  1789. need to look

  1790. like in our

  1791. lives

  1792. God

  1793. reveal them

  1794. by your

  1795. Holy Spirit

  1796. to us

  1797. and then

  1798. give us

  1799. the courage

  1800. to say

  1801. yes to

  1802. you

  1803. every time

  1804. it's in

  1805. Jesus name

  1806. we pray

  1807. amen

  1808. church

  1809. would you

  1810. erreichen

  1811. unless

  1812. you

  1813. you

  1814. do

  1815. our

  1816. hope
