  1. But Revelation 19, verses 11 through 21, we're going to have a little bit of fun tonight.

    Revelation 19:11–21

  2. I tell you, this is one of my favorite topics, but it's also one that gives

  3. us a sense of urgency, y'all, because we're talking about the glorious return of Jesus Christ.

  4. I'm telling you, this is something that is amazing. And as we look in this passage,

  5. I told Dakota earlier today, you know, we've been listening to a lot of skillet.

  6. We have some skillet in our playlist there and all that. And I said,

  7. the Saul white horse would have fit really beautiful tonight on this passage.

  8. But it says, and I saw heaven opened and behold a white horse.

  9. And he who sat on it is called faithful and true.

  10. And in righteousness, he judges and wages war.

  11. His eyes are a flame of fire and on his head are many diadems.

  12. And he has a name written on him, which no one knows except himself.

  13. He is clothed with the robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God.

  14. And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean,

  15. were following him on white horses.

  16. From his mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it he may strike down the nations,

  17. and he will rule them with a rod of iron. and he treads the winepress of the

  18. fierce wrath of God, the Almighty.

  19. And on his robe and on his thigh, he has a name written, King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

  20. Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and he cried out with a loud voice,

  21. saying to all the birds which fly in midheaven, Come,

  22. assemble for the great supper of God, so that you may eat the flesh of kings

  23. and the flesh of commanders and the flesh of mighty men and the flesh of horses

  24. and of those who sit on them and the flesh of all men,

  25. both free men and slaves and small and great.

  26. And I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies assembled to

  27. make war against him who sat on the horse and against his army.

  28. And the beast was seized, and with him the false prophet who performed the signs

  29. in his presence, by which he deceived those who had received the mark of the

  30. beast and those who worshipped his image.

  31. These too were thrown alive into the lake of fire, which burns with brimstone.

  32. And the rest were killed with the sword, which came from the mouth of him who sat on the horse.

  33. And all the birds were filled with their flesh.

  34. That's Revelation 19, verses 11 through 21.

    Revelation 19:11–21

  35. Father God, I pray you'd help us tonight to be faithful to your word,

  36. God, as we study this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  37. You know, probably a century ago, most people believed that history was progressing, right?

  38. That we were towards this man-made utopia, so to speak. And we probably heard

  39. that all our lives. You know, everybody's thinking about this man-made utopia.

  40. If you think back, though, the Industrial Revolution, you know,

  41. the march of the scientific discovery and the increasing pace of social reform

  42. that we saw, It seemed to just point towards nothing but brighter days ahead, in other words.

  43. But today, as we look at our culture and we look all around, what do we see?

  44. We see unrest. We see countless acts of terrorism, right?

  45. Terrorism. We see all kind of crazy stuff. We see disrespect for law enforcement

  46. and people that truly are enforcing the law, right?

  47. So we see all this stuff. We see, like I said, senseless violence as well.

  48. I mean, you just look and you read the stories, all the violence that goes on,

  49. crazy things, and the nearly complete collapse of moral values.

  50. It really makes that rosy optimism about a utopia one day. This seems kind of

  51. naive to think that way, at least a man-made one, right?

  52. So I want you all to see tonight that the Bible, We're doing this bird's eye

  53. view of this passage, but the Bible teaches that things will be wonderfully

  54. better, but only after they become unimaginably worse.

  55. So there's only one solution for the world's problems. You know what it is?

  56. The return of its true king, the Lord Jesus Christ, to establish all absolute

  57. monarchy and unilateral authority in his earthly kingdom.

  58. I mentioned this morning about Jesus being a king. We sang that song,

  59. Amazing Love, You Are My King, right?

  60. And, you know, today's world, you know, I was talking about people hate authority of any kind.

  61. Even when they twist stuff out of shape, you know, and things that aren't true

  62. and they know is not true.

  63. It's like the rallying cry that you hear today, and I know it's pointed more

  64. towards, you know, our president in office, you know, people that have these

  65. bent viewpoints, but they have a right to express those.

  66. But no kings, y'all hear that a lot, right?

  67. But I think that's the cry of the culture at large anyway. We don't want a king.

  68. We don't want a true, we don't want Jesus.

  69. Okay? We don't want Jesus the true king because in our culture,

  70. we want to cry out, no king. I want to call the shots in my life.

  71. But Jesus is coming back. And like I said, he's going to establish absolute

  72. monarchy and unilateral authority in his earthly kingdom.

  73. Those are the very things we hear a lot of people cry they hate today,

  74. which it happened. But I'm just simply saying, you know what I'm saying?

  75. It's like this stuff. I don't want somebody to rule. I don't want a king.

  76. And so only under his rule, though, will there be peace instead of war,

  77. justice instead of inequity, right?

  78. And righteousness, obviously, instead of wickedness. But that wonderful,

  79. that glorious event will not occur, y'all, without fierce opposition from who? Satan.

  80. His demon hordes, and the world of wicked sinners, the tribulation.

  81. Remember the seven-year period immediately before Christ's return that we're looking at tonight.

  82. As we've studied, it will see the greatest of all human world empires headed

  83. by the evil genius known as Antichrist.

  84. And the earth is going to be infested as we sing through scripture with demons,

  85. those who've been here all along.

  86. And as we studied those, you know, cast from heaven with Satan and those released

  87. from imprisonment, if you remember, during the tribulation, the tribulation

  88. will also be a time of escalating human wickedness.

  89. We've studied that despite the unprecedented outpouring of God's wrath on this on this world.

  90. You know, we saw the seal, the trumpet, the bowl judgments and stubbornly the

  91. people here, the unbelievers will harden their hearts against the truth of the gospel.

  92. People even will obstinately refuse to repent, given time and time again. We've seen that.

  93. Even, y'all, the destruction of Antichrist's magnificent capital city of Babylon

  94. that we saw will provoke loud cries of laments, but no repentance.

  95. There's no repentance there.

  96. So while chaos and turmoil reigns on the earth, During that time,

  97. during the tribulation, the raptured church.

  98. Will be presented in heaven. The church, get it, the bride of the Lamb will

  99. be eagerly awaiting the marriage supper of the Lamb in the millennial kingdom.

  100. That's talked about in verse 7 here. But before that wonderful celebration can

  101. take place, get this, the warrior king, you heard that right,

  102. the warrior king must win the final battle.

  103. You see, the forces of heaven and hell will meet in this climactic slaughter

  104. of human history, the Battle of Armageddon, right?

  105. At that final Holocaust, man's day, Eastwood, will end.

  106. Man's day will end. All of Christ's foes will be vanquished and his kingdom will be established.

  107. It's done. It's already done, y'all, whether you like it or not. It's coming.

  108. God's people throughout redemptive history have eagerly anticipated the return of Jesus, right?

  109. To defeat his foes, to set up his kingdom.

  110. And that'll be the time, by the way, when the destruction of Satan is completed. Did you know that?

  111. It's the time that the scriptures, we go back all the way in Genesis.

  112. Genesis 3.15 will be fulfilled. Romans 16, 20, we'll see when the true king

  113. receives that ruling scepter, as it talks about even in Genesis 49, verse 10,

    Genesis 49:10

  114. when God will establish the throne of David's greater son, capital S-O-N,

  115. talks about in 2 Samuel 7 and in Isaiah 9, when the son will rule the earth with a rod of iron.

  116. That's even talked about, you probably thought of this back in Psalm 2, verses 6 through 9.

    Psalms 2:6–9

  117. When the armies of Gog and Magog will be shattered, it talks about in Ezekiel 38 and 39.

  118. When the nations will be judged, Joel talks about this.

  119. And after their defeat in the battle by the returning king, that's Jesus, the true king.

  120. When Jerusalem will be the center of Messiah's kingdom. It tells us that in Zechariah 12.

  121. And when the angels, y'all, will gather the wicked for judgment.

  122. We read about that in the New Testament, don't we? In Matthew 13, in Matthew 25,

  123. when the wicked will face God's wrath and his indignation, and when the Lord

  124. Jesus will descend visibly, visibly from heaven in flaming fire.

  125. Bringing retribution, y'all, on the persecutors of his people.

  126. I'll say this, the second coming of Jesus Christ is the culmination of redemptive history.

  127. Believers, y'all, of all ages have eagerly anticipated this glorious event that's coming.

  128. In fact, if you remember, the Apostle Paul actually defined Christians as those in 2 Timothy 4.8.

  129. Get this, this is important tonight. Listen to this.

  130. He defined Christians as those who have loved his appearing.

  131. Those who have loved his appearing. Many believers, I'm afraid though,

  132. however, are enamored by the things of the world and they don't love Christ

  133. appearing as they should. Don't you think?

  134. We get sidelined so easily in this world and we get enamored by everything but

  135. loving the appearing of Jesus Christ back on this earth.

  136. And certainly here, the tribulation believers, well, they won't have a problem with that. You know why?

  137. Because they will be persecuted. They'll be hunted outcasts.

  138. They'll be living constantly under the sentence of death in an unspeakably,

  139. don't lose this here, what we're focusing on.

  140. It'll be unspeakably vile, demon-infested world.

  141. Christ's coming will be actually what they long for, what they pray for.

  142. And so important, y'all, it's the second coming of Jesus Christ that the Bible

  143. actually lists several compelling reasons, I think, why Jesus must return to earth.

  144. Number one is the numerous promises of God in Scripture, such as those noted

  145. that I just shared with you, right?

  146. They demand Christ's return because it's promised in Scripture.

  147. God has promised us. And likewise, also the promises of Jesus himself also demand his return to earth.

  148. The guarantee of the Holy Spirit, the spirit of truth, is another reason that

  149. Jesus must return, since he inspired the New Testament writers,

  150. after all, to write of Christ's return. It's very important.

  151. And if Christ does not return, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit would be guilty,

  152. y'all, of making false promises, which we all know as we sit here tonight is

  153. impossible since God is incapable of lying. God cannot lie.

  154. And so God's plan for the church, as we look here in Revelation 19.

  155. Also necessitates Christ's return, does it not?

  156. I mean, he must take her, his bride, to heaven to present her in preparation

  157. of the marriage supper of the Lamb that it talks about that we read tonight

  158. in verses 7 through 10 of chapter 19.

  159. And Jesus must also return because of God's plan for the nations, right?

  160. Their judgment, the salvation for Israel, the salvation of the remnant of believing

  161. Jews, Christ's humiliation. Think about it this way tonight.

  162. Christ's humiliation at his first coming, when he was scorned,

  163. remember, scorned, he was hated, he was despised, it demands his return to display

  164. his glory, the second coming.

  165. You see, Satan's exaltation is another reason that Jesus must return.

  166. Remember, scripture refers to Satan right now, if you remember in 2 Corinthians

  167. 4, 4, as the God of this world, right?

  168. The God of this world. He will not be permitted to keep his usurped throne, if you will.

  169. He won't be permitted to keep that forever. The rightful heir to the earth's

  170. throne must return, defeat the usurper, and take what is rightfully his.

  171. You remember we studied back early in Revelation?

  172. Jesus had the deed to the earth, right? And then finally, the hope and the expectation

  173. of God's people demand that Christ return.

  174. The second coming, y'all, I

  175. don't want to share this because I think some people do get this confused.

  176. The second coming must be distinguished from the rapture of the church prior

  177. to the seven year tribulation.

  178. The differing biblical descriptions of the two events indicate that they are

  179. distinct from each other.

  180. At the rapture, Christ comes for his saints. It talks about that That in John

  181. and first Thessalonians. Okay.

  182. At the second coming here in this passage, he comes with them.

  183. He comes with them. And so, furthermore, at the rapture, Christ meets his saints

  184. in the air, it says in 1 Thessalonians 4, and to take them to heaven, right?

  185. And at the second coming here, in Revelation 19, he descends from heaven with them to the earth.

  186. You know, some attempts have been made, excuse me, to harmonize those two distinctions.

  187. Some people have argued that believers meet Christ in the air,

  188. then descend to earth with him.

  189. But by so doing, they essentially make the rapture and the second coming the same event.

  190. It's like it all happens at one time, you know, they send up, come down.

  191. But that's not what scripture says, and that's not what it teaches.

  192. But that view, it's championed by a lot of people who hold to a post-tribulationist

  193. view, and it trivializes or it marginalizes the rapture.

  194. It basically renders it pointless.

  195. In fact, theologian, I think his name is Thomas Edgar, he knows this and jotted this down.

  196. He said, what can be the purpose for keeping a remnant alive through the tribulation

  197. so that some of the church survive and then take them out of their situation

  198. and make them the same as those who did not survive?

  199. Why keep them for this, he asked. The explanation that they provide an escort

  200. for Jesus does not hold up.

  201. Raptured living saints will be exactly the same as resurrected dead saints.

  202. Why cannot the dead believers fulfill this purpose?

  203. Why keep a remnant alive through the tribulation, then rapture them and accomplish

  204. no more than by letting them die, he asked.

  205. There is no purpose or accomplishment in such a rapture.

  206. He says that with all the saints of the ages past and the armies of angels in

  207. heaven available as escorts and the fact that raptured saints provide no different

  208. escort than if they had been killed,

  209. why permit the church to suffer immensely?

  210. Most believers, he said, to be killed and spare a few for rapture,

  211. which has no apparent purpose.

  212. Immediately before the tribulation period ends, he asked, is this the promise?

  213. You will suffer, be killed, but I will keep a few alive and take them out just

  214. before the good times come.

  215. Such reasoning, he says, of course, calls for some explanation of the apparent

  216. lack of purpose for a post-tribulational rapture of any sort.

  217. So, and he lists out several reasons and talks about, you know,

  218. those things about how these are two separate events. And as we see in scripture, It's very clear.

  219. In fact, another theologian, Richard Mayhew, actually gives another reason that

  220. post-tribulation rapture, one that happens at the second coming, is pointless.

  221. If the rapture took place, he said, in connection with our Lord's post-tribulational

  222. second coming, the subsequent separation of the sheep from the goats,

  223. as it talks about in Matthew 25, he said, would be redundant.

  224. Separation would have taken place in the very act of the rapture, he said.

  225. So I want y'all to get that tonight because there's not even a hint of judgment

  226. in passages that describe the rapture. Did you know that?

  227. John 14, 1 Thessalonians 4. There is not a hint of judgment in any passage in

  228. the New Testament anywhere that describes a hint of judgment when talking about

  229. the rapture of the church, okay, in that particular moment in time.

  230. But judgment plays a prominent role where?

  231. Right here in Revelation 19, in the second coming of Christ to the earth.

  232. That's where it plays the role. Because as I said earlier, Jesus is not coming

  233. as one who is scorned, right? What is he coming as from heaven?

  234. The mighty warrior. We're going to talk about that a little more.

  235. But the dramatic signs accompanying the second coming.

  236. Remember the darkening of the sun and moon and the disruption,

  237. I should say, of the powers of the heavens it talks about in Matthew 24.

  238. They're not mentioned in the passages describing the rapture of the church.

  239. And in its description of the second coming here revelation 19 does not mention

  240. either a translation or a rapture of living believers it doesn't mention anything

  241. like that or resurrection of dead believers as talked about in first thessalonians

  242. so these are two separate events.

  243. This monumental it's a climactic passage if you will here i think it can be

  244. divided into four sections.

  245. And that's the return of the conqueror, the return of Jesus,

  246. obviously, the return of the king, the regiments of the conqueror,

  247. the rule of the conqueror, and the victory of the conqueror.

  248. So what I'd like to do, are you good with me just looking at the return of the

  249. conqueror tonight? Can you hang out for that?

  250. I think we have time to do it. It's not quite 530.

  251. All right, we're going to go back. This is where we're going to take that deeper

  252. dive in this first section, okay?

  253. Let's go back. And I saw heaven open, and behold, a white horse.

  254. And he who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and wages war.

  255. His eyes are a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems.

  256. And he has a name written on him which no one knows except himself.

  257. He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and his name is called the Word of God.

  258. That's verse 11 through 13. Well, as it did, y'all, in chapter 4,

  259. verse 1, if you remember, heaven opened again before John's wandering eyes here.

  260. But unlike that, chapter 4,

  261. verse 1, heaven opens this time not to let John in, but to let Jesus out.

  262. You see it? To let Jesus out. The time has come at last here for the full glorious

  263. revelation of the sovereign Lord.

  264. This is the time here, church, to which all of Revelation, as well as all of

  265. redemptive history, by the way, has been pointing to.

  266. The time when Jesus himself spoke about, if you remember in Matthew 24, verses 27 through 31.

    Matthew 24:27–31

  267. Let me read it for you. This will be familiar to you.

  268. He says, for just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the

  269. west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

  270. Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.

  271. Sound familiar? But immediately after the tribulation of those days,

  272. the sun will be darkened and the moon will not give us light and the stars will

  273. fall from the sky and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

  274. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky and then all the

  275. tribes of the earth will mourn and they will see the Son of Man coming on the

  276. clouds of the sky with power and great glory.

  277. And he will send forth his angels with a trumpet and they will gather together

  278. his elect from the four winds from one end of the sky to the other.

  279. Those that are on the earth at that time, those that have been saved during

  280. the tribulation, right?

  281. And as this dramatic scene unfolds, y'all, think about this tonight. John stands here.

  282. His attention is actually riveted on this majestic, this regal, mighty rider.

  283. Jesus, the one, it says, who ascended.

  284. To heaven, it talks about where he has been seated at the Father's right hand,

  285. it tells us in Acts, is about to receive the kingdom that God the Father promised him.

  286. And in an earlier vision, John saw Jesus, I referred to this earlier,

  287. receive the title deed. Y'all remember that?

  288. Were you here that night when he received the title deed of the earth?

  289. Let me refresh your memory quickly. He said, I saw in the right hand of him

  290. who sat on the throne a book written inside and on the back,

  291. sealed up with seven seals.

  292. And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, who is worthy to open

  293. the book and to break its seals.

  294. And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the book or to look at it.

  295. Then I began to weep greatly because nobody was found worthy to open the book or to look into it.

  296. And one of the elders said to me, stop weeping.

  297. Behold, the lion is from the tribe of Judah.

  298. The root of David has overcome so as to open the book and its seven seals.

  299. And I saw between the throne with four living creatures and the elders of the

  300. Lamb standing as if slain, having seven horns and seven eyes,

  301. which are the seven spirits of God, sent out into all the earth.

  302. And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne.

  303. Wow, the Lamb of that vision, Eastwood, has become the conquering king here,

  304. Revelation 19. No longer is Jesus portrayed as he was in his humiliation.

  305. You remember when Jesus first came to earth? Remember how he was described from Zechariah 9-9? Humble.

  306. What was he riding? Mounted on a what? Donkey.

  307. Even on a colt. The foal of a donkey, right?

  308. Instead here, he rides the traditional white horse ridden by victorious Roman

  309. generals in their triumphal processions right through the streets of Rome.

  310. In fact, white here also symbolizes the spotless, unblemished,

  311. absolutely holy character of the rider.

  312. The horse, I want y'all to get this.

  313. The horse, like the crowns, the sharp sword and the rod of iron and the wine

  314. press that's mentioned, is symbolic.

  315. And Christ's coming is reality, and this symbolic language actually represents

  316. the various aspects of that reality.

  317. You think about the white horse. I mean, it's more about his manner of coming than the method.

  318. It's not the method, the horse that he rides on, but the manner is that he comes

  319. in righteousness on that white horse, right? In righteousness.

  320. And so do those who come with him. They come in righteousness,

  321. in victory over his enemies.

  322. In other words, his sovereign rule. And that is really what's portrayed there

  323. in that white horse and his judgment of sinners, right?

  324. And continuing his description here of this astonishing scene before his eyes,

  325. John notes that he who sat on the white horse is called faithful and true. Do you see it?

  326. There's no more appropriate name that I can think of for Jesus,

  327. who earlier in Revelation, by the way, was called the faithful and true witness. You remember that?

  328. He is faithful to his promises. Aren't y'all grateful that Jesus is faithful to his promises?

  329. And what he speaks is always true.

  330. Though some would like to, you know, pick and choose, like we talked about this

  331. morning on the buffet, you know, which teachings of Jesus they wish to accept.

  332. He is just as faithful to his promises of wrath and judgment as he is to his

  333. promises of grace and salvation. Did you hear me?

  334. The description of Jesus here as faithful and true is in marked contrast with

  335. the unfaithfulness and lies, if you remember, of Satan, Antichrist,

  336. evil empire that we've studied, and wicked people who are on the earth.

  337. The very fact, y'all, that he is coming again as he promised actually confirms

  338. that Jesus is faithful and true. Amen?

  339. Because Jesus is faithful to his word and righteous character.

  340. It follows that in righteousness he judges, right?

  341. You see that there? In righteousness he judges.

  342. His holy nature demands a holy, righteous reaction to sin.

  343. And because he always does, y'all, what he says he's going to do,

  344. he must judge the wicked.

  345. Jesus came the first time as Savior, right? He'll return as judge.

  346. He'll return as judge. And when he came the first time, what happened?

  347. Wicked people, including Pilate, if you remember, Herod, Annas,

  348. and Caiaphas judged him, right?

  349. When he returns, what's going to happen? He will judge all wicked people.

  350. And he will not only be their judge, don't miss this, but he'll also be their executioner.

  351. Angels may gather the wicked for judgment, but the Lord Jesus is going to pass the sentence on them.

  352. No longer the suffering servant of his incarnation.

  353. The Lord Jesus here in this vision, he's seen as the warrior king,

  354. y'all. Do you see it right here?

  355. Who wages war against his foes.

  356. He is the executioner of all the ungodly, unbelieving sinners.

  357. The only reference in Scripture to Jesus waging war is back in chapter 2,

  358. verse 16, when he warned the worldly church at Pergamum. You remember that?

  359. He said this, he said, repent, or else I'm coming to you quickly,

  360. and I will make war against them with the sword of my mouth.

  361. This is not out of keeping with God's character. After, if you remember,

  362. after their deliverance from Egypt, remember from Egyptian forces at the Red

  363. Sea, remember Israel sang a song, The Lord is a Warrior.

  364. You remember that one? The Lord is a Warrior.

  365. In Exodus 15, talks about it in Psalm 24, Psalm 45.

  366. John Phillips, and we're about to close, but John Phillips said,

  367. The Lord is a man of war. It is an amazing title for the Son of God,

  368. says Alexander White, commenting on Bunyan's Holy War.

  369. Holy Scripture is full of wars and rumors of wars.

  370. The wars of the Lord, the wars of Joshua, the judges, the wars of David,

  371. with his mighty other magnificent battle songs, till the best known name of

  372. the God of Israel in the Old Testament is the Lord of hosts.

  373. And then in the New Testament, we have Jesus Christ described as the captain,

  374. he said, of our salvation.

  375. And then the whole Bible is crowned with a book, all sounding with battle cries,

  376. he said, till it ends with that city of peace where they hang the trumpet in

  377. the hall and they study war no more.

  378. See, Jesus is going to take care of his enemies. He's going to judge the world in righteousness.

  379. He goes on to say quickly, he says, the Lord is a man of war.

  380. In righteousness, he judges and makes war. The judging has been going on throughout

  381. the breaking of the seals, he said.

  382. The blowing of the trumpets and the pouring out of the bowls.

  383. Now he makes war. He who for long centuries has endured patiently the scoffings, he said.

  384. The insults, the bad manners of men who for ages have contemplated Calvary and

  385. all that it displayed of human hatred and contempt,

  386. and who through the millennia has made peace through the blood of that cross,

  387. now makes war over that blood.

  388. And that was in his book, Exploring Revelation. Y'all, I want you to see this tonight.

  389. Jesus' adversaries this time will be hardened sinners who have defied his judgments

  390. and scorned the gospel message during the tribulation, right?

  391. Despite all the devastating judgments they will have experienced and the powerful

  392. gospel preaching they will have heard, they will stubbornly refuse to repent.

  393. Since neither judgment nor preaching moves them to repent, church.

  394. Jesus will return to destroy them and send them to hell.

  395. Unlike other conquerors this world has seen, y'all, you know,

  396. covetous ambition, pride, power that they're after, it'll not motivate this

  397. conqueror, really, not at all.

  398. He will come, how again? In utter righteousness, in perfect holiness,

  399. y'all, and in strict accord here with every holy interest.

  400. Heaven, y'all, cannot be at peace with sin. Let me say that again.

  401. Heaven can't be at peace with sin, y'all.

  402. For God's eyes, it says, are too pure to approve evil, and he cannot look on

  403. the wickedness with favor, says in Habakkuk 1.13.

  404. There is a limit to God's patience. Justice cannot always tolerate injustice.

  405. Truth cannot forever tolerate lies.

  406. Rebellion can't be permitted to go on forever, can it?

  407. All these hardened sinners here that it describes in Revelation here on the

  408. earth will face destruction, mercy abused, and grace rejected that will ultimately

  409. bring judgment on their heads.

  410. And so describing the personal appearance of this majestic, awe-inspiring writer

  411. here of Jesus, what does John write?

  412. What does he say? he said his eyes are a

  413. flame of what fire right nothing escapes

  414. the notice in other words of his penetrating piercing

  415. vision he can see into the deepest recesses

  416. of the human heart because after all you remember scripture says that all things

  417. are open and laid bare to the eyes of him with whom we have to do that's in

  418. hebrews right those eyes had reflected tenderness did they not and joy as he

  419. gathered little children to himself.

  420. They had reflected compassion when he observed distressed and dispirited people, right?

  421. Wondering aimlessly, if you will, through life like sheep without a shepherd.

  422. And they had reflected forgiveness even when he restored Peter.

  423. You remember old Peter at the crucifixion?

  424. When he had been crushed by guilt over his shocking denial of his master, Jesus.

  425. Eyes that wept over the fate, if you remember, of unrepentant Jerusalem,

  426. and over the sorrow, the suffering, and death in this sin-cursed world.

  427. John actually sees here flashing with the fire of judgment those very eyes, y'all.

  428. On his head, there were many diadems. Did you see that?

  429. The translation here of the Greek word diadema, it refers to a ruler's crown.

  430. And in this case, y'all they are worn

  431. by jesus to signify his royal rank

  432. and his regal authority here many here

  433. indicates that his collecting of all the rulers crowns he's got them all y'all

  434. signifying that he alone is the sovereign ruler of the earth collecting the

  435. crown of a vanquished king by the way was customary in the ancient world you

  436. remember as you study scripture after defeating the Ammonites, if you remember,

  437. David actually, it says, took the crown of their king from his head,

  438. and it was placed on David's head.

  439. Christ alone will be sovereign since he alone is king of kings,

  440. it says here, and Lord of lords.

  441. And the kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of the Lord and of his Christ,

  442. and he will reign how long?

  443. Forever and ever the many crowns christ

  444. will wear are indeed a fair exchange don't

  445. you think for the crown of thorns that he wore the first time further here john

  446. notes that jesus had a name written on him which nobody knows except himself

  447. y'all we can speculate all night long it'll be pointless because the text here

  448. plainly says that nobody knows it except jesus,

  449. even the inspired apostle john here could not

  450. comprehend it maybe it'll be known after

  451. his return but we don't know but describing the

  452. final element as we see here as we close tonight of christ's

  453. appearance john's writes this he said he is clothed with a robe dipped in what

  454. blood y'all want to i just want to say something in case you were wondering

  455. about this the blood here is not representative of that which he shed on the

  456. cross that's not what's on him It's not redemption.

  457. It's a picture of judgment, y'all. The blood is the blood of his enemies.

  458. That imagery is similar, actually, to that of Isaiah when he talked about this.

  459. And I'm not going to read all that tonight. But the question arises as to why

  460. his garments are splattered in blood or blood spattered, if you will,

  461. before the battle has begun. But y'all, you got to think about this tonight as we close.

  462. This is not his first battle, is it? Not his first battle. It's his last battle.

  463. You get it? It's his last battle. He's a warrior king.

  464. Why else wouldn't his his rose be dipped

  465. in blood he's been through battles before this is

  466. the last battle he's fought for his people throughout

  467. redemptive history and his war clothes if you will bear the stains of those

  468. previous slaughters and that day at that day they'll be stained as never before

  469. because right here in this passage verse 15 look at it again he treads the wine

  470. press of the fierce wrath of God the Almighty.

  471. The writer's name is called what again? The Word of God.

  472. Unmistakably, it's the Lord Jesus Christ, is it not? The second person of the

  473. Trinity, the incarnate Son of God, he is called the Word of God because he is

  474. the revelation of God Almighty.

  475. He is the full expression of the mind, the will, and the purpose of God.

  476. The radius of his glory, I love

  477. this in Hebrews one, three, and the exact representation of his nature.

  478. That's who Jesus is. We're going to stop there tonight. And next week we'll

  479. pick up Lord willing with the regiments of the conqueror.
