  1. so we're going to put one John to bed hopefully he's going to be a friend for life and I think

  2. John has some really important things to say to us as we conclude today but this week a lot of

  3. very significant things happened particularly on Wednesday can anyone tell me one significant

  4. thing that happened on Wednesday the queen the queen became the longest serving British monarch

  5. although I discovered also that she's actually only the 49th longest reigning monarch of all time

  6. pretty exciting there's a guy in Swaziland who ruled for 72 years 279 days so she's got some way to go

  7. about 13 as it happens something else big happened on Wednesday

  8. yeah no that wasn't what I was thinking I was thinking there was an Apple launch event

  9. and we saw the biggest iPad launched the most powerful iPhone launched we saw that television

  10. is going to totally be revolutionized and that the Apple watch is a an accessory that all of us

  11. will be running our lives from very very soon something else big happened on Wednesday

  12. it was the sixth anniversary of me becoming pastor of this church

  13. which is a testimony to your patience and God's grace and I dare say sense of humor

  14. it also this week was the 13th anniversary of me a boy born in the south of England moving to Scotland

  15. it was this week in 2002 that I moved up to Aberdeen so not just Scotland but real real Scotland

  16. and I have to say after 13 years I really like it

  17. Aberdeen was cool literally Glasgow was fun Airdrie was interesting

  18. and Edinburgh is proving quite exciting I like Scotland I even married a Scot that's how much of a fan

  19. I am I thought I'd get one for myself but one thing I didn't get and I still don't get is the

  20. question that Scottish people normally ask third when you meet them what is your name what do you do

  21. and the third question where do you stay I don't understand what you mean by where do you stay

  22. people used to ask me in Aberdeen where do you stay and I'd say things like no I live here permanently

  23. or no I have a room in the hall of residence I don't stay I live I live here

  24. where do you stay and actually as we've gone through 1 John we've seen that staying

  25. remaining abiding keeping on has been a major theme in the book he's trying to say that you can have

  26. real confidence that you're a real Christian if you stay in three places if you stay in the apostolic

  27. gospel if you stay in the truth about Jesus passed down and relayed by the apostles to us if you stay

  28. believing the right things about Jesus he says you can have confidence that you're a real Christian if on top

  29. of that you stay obeying Jesus's commands and he says you can be really confident that you're really

  30. a Christian if you stay loving the brothers and sisters if you stay in those three places

  31. believing the right stuff about Jesus obeying what he says and loving his people you can be very confident

  32. that you really do know God

  33. so even here if you turn to 1 John chapter 5 you'll see in the first three verses they're all put together

    1 John 5 chapter mention

  34. everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God and everyone who loves the father loves his

  35. child as well this is how that we know this is how we know that we love the children of God by loving God

  36. and carrying out his commands in fact this is love for God to keep his commands and his commands are not

  37. burdensome for everyone born of God overcomes the world you see they're all three there

  38. believing that Jesus is the Christ obeying Jesus's commands which he says aren't burdensome

  39. and particularly the command to love the brothers he says if you have these three markers you can be really

  40. confident that you really know God but what he's going to go on to say is that if these are the three

  41. things that mark that you're a Christian now is there any way that we can have certainty that that counts

  42. for anything in the end can we have certainty about all the parts of Christianity that we can't see and we

  43. don't necessarily experience the things that Jesus tells us that we have can we have certainty

  44. about things like victory over the world can we have certainty that we really do have eternal life

  45. can we have certainty that when we pray we're not just filling silence but God really hears us

  46. and he really answers our prayers and so I think what John is doing at the end of his letter

  47. he's saying to this group of believers that remain he's giving them confidence and says

  48. no you really do know God those people that have left that have caused uncertainty they don't know

  49. God you know God you're the real deal and then he's finishing with one great crescendo saying you can

  50. actually have certainty that everything Jesus says that you have because of him you really do have

  51. you can have real certainty so look with me at um 1 John chapter 5 verses 4b and 5

    1 John 5 chapter mention

  52. John writes this this is the victory that has overcome the world even our faith who is it that

  53. overcomes the world only the one who believes that Jesus is the son of God what he's saying is that

  54. faith in Jesus gives victory in the end the language of overcoming is throughout 1 John

  55. he's constantly telling us that these people through faith have overcome the world so chapter 2 verse 13

  56. I am writing to you fathers because you know him who is from the beginning I am writing to you young men

  57. because you have overcome the evil one or chapter 4 verse 4 you dear children are from God

  58. and have overcome them because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world

  59. he talks about overcoming all the time and here he lays it absolutely explicitly down

  60. this is the victory that overcomes the world what is the victory our faith our faith overcomes the world

  61. our faith in Jesus gives us victory in the end it is faith in Jesus and only faith in Jesus that means

  62. in the end we'll stand long after this world has passed away using John's language how do we know

  63. that to be so well what he says in 6 to 10 is that that Jesus has shown us and God has testified

  64. to it how do we know that's really true because God has told us and Jesus has shown us

  65. so in verses 6 to 10 this is not easy but let me read it

  66. this is the one who came through water and blood Jesus Christ

  67. he did not come by water only but by water and blood

  68. and it is the spirit who testifies because the spirit is the truth

  69. for there are three that testify the spirit the water and the blood

  70. and the three are in agreement

  71. we accept human testimony but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God

  72. which he has given about his son whoever believes in the son of God accepts this testimony

  73. whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar

  74. because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his son

  75. interesting there are three that testify and they all agree

  76. but John doesn't really tell us what they're testifying about and what they agree about

  77. but I think he he really does help us he's trying to say that these three testify that Jesus is really the son of God

  78. and that by believing in him we can overcome and are welcomed into his victory

  79. so the fact that he came through water speaking about his baptism

  80. and what happens at his baptism well there's really good testimony

  81. from God himself when he says you are my son

  82. whom I love with you I am well pleased

  83. how do we know that Jesus is God's son because God told us

  84. and he is the one who went through blood

  85. he is the one who died on a cross

  86. but that wasn't the end he went through it and raised to life

  87. giving us evidence

  88. giving us verifiable testimony

  89. that he truly is all that he said he is

  90. that he's truly done all that he said he's done

  91. and then the spirit

  92. the spirit in John's gospel is always testifying to who Jesus is

  93. John 15

  94. when the advocate the Holy Spirit comes

  95. whom I will send to you from the Father

  96. the spirit of truth who goes out from the Father

  97. he will testify about me

  98. spirit is the one constantly shining light on Jesus

  99. and so how can we have confidence that we've overcome the world

  100. through our faith in Jesus the son of God

  101. how do we know that Jesus is the son of God

  102. because at his baptism it was said to be so

  103. through his death it was shown to be so

  104. and by his spirit it's relayed to us

  105. that this is the truth about Jesus

  106. and so in verse 9

  107. it talks about the judicial system of the day

  108. where he needed two or three witnesses who agree

  109. and then that was put in to corroborate evidence

  110. and here John is saying these aren't human witnesses

  111. who agree this is God himself testifying

  112. to the truth of who his son is

  113. John ramps up the logic that if we believe human testimony

  114. how much more should we believe God's testimony

  115. about who his son is

  116. and the victory we've got because of who he is

  117. and so he finishes

  118. God is either telling the truth or God is a liar

  119. and because God never lies we can have absolute confidence

  120. because of his unfailing unchanging word

  121. that through faith in his son we have victory

  122. whoever believes in Jesus has victory over the world

  123. whoever does not believe in Jesus does not have victory over the world

  124. and has made God out to be a liar

  125. faith in Jesus gives victory

  126. but in the end

  127. why is John having to say this to these troubled individuals

  128. because they don't feel very victorious

  129. they feel like a very small boat on a very big sea

  130. and they look at the people that have left

  131. and the gathering they have

  132. and they look far more victorious

  133. they look far more impressive

  134. they look like winners

  135. and actually in our own lives

  136. we don't particularly feel like winners

  137. nobody looked at all of us streaming into church this morning

  138. and went there's a bunch of winners

  139. they thought pity them

  140. but that's the truth of faith isn't it

  141. that it's the believing in things is yet unseen

  142. but it's not faith in the dark

  143. it's not mindless faith

  144. it's not leave your brain at the door and come into church

  145. it's actually believing that what Jesus has said about his son is true

  146. and what God has shown us through his son is true

  147. and therefore our faith will lead to victory in the end

  148. the cross didn't look very victorious at all

  149. and yet it's God's profound means of saving people

  150. that they might be welcomed into his victory

  151. so there was a Sunday school teacher

  152. who started their lesson like this

  153. class

  154. what is grey and lives in trees

  155. nobody answered

  156. so the teacher said

  157. it's got a bushy tail and it jumps between branches

  158. still no one answered

  159. the teacher said again

  160. it collects nuts and hibernates in a dray during winter

  161. to which point one boy tentatively put his hand up and goes

  162. I know the answer is Jesus

  163. but it sure sounds like you're talking about a squirrel

  164. how do we ultimately know

  165. that we have victory in the end because of Jesus

  166. that's the answer

  167. that God told us who he is

  168. he showed us what he's done

  169. and therefore we have victory in the end

  170. and if we knew this with certainty

  171. the certainty that John is trying to give us

  172. what a relief

  173. what a relief and what an encouragement to live life differently

  174. that actually because I will win in the end through Jesus

  175. I don't have to spend all my energy winning now

  176. I don't need to get to the top

  177. I can sink right to the bottom

  178. and be a servant of all

  179. I don't have to spend my life making myself look like a winner

  180. because in Jesus I will win

  181. and get that victor's crown

  182. that he's won

  183. and fought

  184. and was victorious in for me

  185. how can we be certain of victory in the end because of Jesus

  186. point number two

  187. faith in Jesus gives life now and forevermore

  188. verse 11

  189. and this is the testimony

  190. God has given us eternal life

  191. and this life is in his son

  192. whoever has the son has life

  193. whoever does not have the son does not have life

  194. I write these things to you

  195. who believe in the name of the son of God

  196. so that you may know that you have eternal life

  197. again see it revolves around what Jesus

  198. what God has said about his son

  199. I have given you eternal life

  200. and this life

  201. is in my son Jesus

  202. he has given it to us

  203. because he's given us his son

  204. the two are inextricably linked

  205. you cannot have eternal life without Jesus

  206. Jesus has an absolute monopoly on eternal life

  207. there's nowhere else you will find it except Jesus

  208. verse 12 is binary isn't it

  209. whoever has the son has life

  210. whoever does not have the son does not have life

  211. you plus faith in Jesus equals eternal life

  212. you minus faith in Jesus does not equal eternal life

  213. how do you know you have eternal life?

  214. by continuing to believe

  215. that Jesus is who he says he is

  216. has done what he says he's done

  217. and we are because of all that he's done for us

  218. Jesus is the dividing line of eternal life

  219. it separates all of humanity

  220. it separates children from parents

  221. siblings from each other

  222. it separates couples

  223. it separates neighbours

  224. and it separates eternally

  225. whoever has Jesus has life

  226. whoever does not have Jesus does not have life

  227. it is that stark and that serious

  228. I've done a few funerals

  229. in the last six months

  230. all of them for really marvellous godly women

  231. and every time I go to a funeral

  232. do a funeral

  233. I'm reminded of one thing

  234. there is nothing more important than eternal life

  235. there is nothing more important than eternal life

  236. if what John says is true

  237. and John is saying what God says is true

  238. then death is the terminus of all life

  239. and Jesus is the only antidote to that death

  240. those who have the son have life

  241. those who do not have the son

  242. do not have eternal life

  243. but see this is not just pie in the sky

  244. when you die

  245. it is steak on the plate

  246. well you wait

  247. because see it's not

  248. when you die

  249. God will give you eternal life

  250. it's not

  251. if you have the son

  252. you will have

  253. eternal life

  254. it's a reality for right now

  255. whoever has the son

  256. has life

  257. has life now

  258. John 17

  259. and this is eternal life

  260. that they know you

  261. the only true God

  262. and Jesus Christ

  263. whom you have sent

  264. that you experientially know God

  265. that eternal life

  266. is not just a

  267. quantity of life

  268. that goes on forever

  269. it is a quality of life

  270. lived in a relationship with God

  271. as his adopted children

  272. through the good news of Jesus Christ

  273. who makes it all possible

  274. living a life

  275. in relationship with God

  276. knowing his love

  277. his forgiveness

  278. his closeness

  279. his care

  280. his protection

  281. as an adopted child

  282. all by his grace

  283. now and forever

  284. and again

  285. if we had certainty about that

  286. how differently we would live

  287. we would risk more

  288. we would risk more

  289. we would be a lot less anxious

  290. if God

  291. you really have taken care of eternity

  292. I think I can trust you with tomorrow

  293. I can even trust you

  294. with that really difficult meeting

  295. we would be far more generous

  296. knowing that it's not about

  297. what I make of my life

  298. and accumulate for myself

  299. in this life

  300. because in Jesus

  301. I've already got everything

  302. and it would make us

  303. far more bold

  304. in our evangelism

  305. if it is that stark

  306. that those who have

  307. the son have life

  308. and those that don't have the son

  309. do not have life

  310. how can we be certain

  311. we have eternal life

  312. because God has said we do

  313. and shown us that we do

  314. in his son

  315. and then lastly

  316. verses 14 to 17

  317. again this is not easy

  318. but we will get it

  319. or at least try

  320. this is the confidence

  321. we have in approaching God

  322. that if we ask anything

  323. according to his will

  324. he hears us

  325. and if we know

  326. that he hears us

  327. whatever we ask

  328. we know that we have

  329. what we asked of him

  330. if you see any brother

  331. or sister commit a sin

  332. that does not lead to death

  333. you should pray

  334. and God will give them life

  335. I refer to those

  336. whose sin does not lead to death

  337. there is a sin

  338. that leads to death

  339. I am not saying

  340. that you should pray

  341. about that

  342. all wrongdoing is sin

  343. and there is a sin

  344. that does not lead to death

  345. I read so many commentaries

  346. this week

  347. trying to work out

  348. what that was saying

  349. but again

  350. John is basing his confidence

  351. not on how he feels

  352. not on what he sees

  353. but on what God has said

  354. and in the positive

  355. he said great things

  356. he says that

  357. if we ask

  358. according to his will

  359. he hears and answers

  360. what a great encouragement

  361. to pray

  362. that if we his children

  363. ask

  364. and our request

  365. is in accordance

  366. with his will

  367. then he hears

  368. and he answers

  369. I don't know

  370. if you're ever like me

  371. that you pray

  372. and you pray

  373. and God answers

  374. and what an encouragement

  375. it is

  376. because you think

  377. I just spoke

  378. to God

  379. I am so small

  380. so insignificant

  381. I am one of over

  382. six billion people

  383. in the world

  384. and God heard

  385. what I said

  386. and he answered

  387. if we ask

  388. and our request

  389. is in accordance

  390. with his will

  391. he answers

  392. but the question

  393. behind the question

  394. how do we know

  395. if it's in accordance

  396. with God's will

  397. that's what we all

  398. want to know

  399. and the beautiful thing

  400. is that God

  401. has told us

  402. this week

  403. I went through

  404. quite a lot

  405. of my Bible

  406. looking up

  407. all the prayers

  408. that God promises

  409. to answer

  410. and instructs us

  411. to pray

  412. here's a list

  413. God wants us

  414. to pray

  415. that he would be

  416. glorified above

  417. all things

  418. he tells us

  419. to pray for wisdom

  420. when we don't have any

  421. he tells us

  422. to pray for our enemies

  423. he tells us

  424. to pray to the

  425. Lord of the harvest

  426. for more laborers

  427. he tells us

  428. to pray for governments

  429. and authorities

  430. he prays

  431. he tells us

  432. to pray

  433. that people

  434. would know

  435. him better

  436. he tells us

  437. to pray

  438. for healing

  439. when we see

  440. sickness and illness

  441. he tells us

  442. to pray

  443. for opportunities

  444. to witness

  445. to pray

  446. for boldness

  447. in witness

  448. to pray

  449. for right

  450. motivations

  451. in service

  452. for strength

  453. and persecution

  454. that we would

  455. not fall

  456. into temptation

  457. he tells us

  458. to pray

  459. that people

  460. would be

  461. conformed

  462. to his image

  463. more

  464. he tells us

  465. to pray

  466. with thanksgiving

  467. he tells us

  468. to pray

  469. for greater faith

  470. for more

  471. fruitfulness

  472. and to come

  473. to him

  474. for grace

  475. in times

  476. of need

  477. and there

  478. are countless

  479. countless

  480. others

  481. that God

  482. has told us

  483. what his will

  484. is

  485. and he says

  486. if you pray

  487. in accordance

  488. to what I've

  489. revealed

  490. I will hear

  491. and I will

  492. answer

  493. what a

  494. privilege

  495. we've got a

  496. week of prayer

  497. starting a week

  498. on Monday

  499. and an opportunity

  500. for all of us

  501. together

  502. to pray

  503. together

  504. in accordance

  505. with God's

  506. will

  507. trusting that

  508. he can do

  509. impossible things

  510. in our lives

  511. in our church

  512. amongst our

  513. friends

  514. in our city

  515. in our world

  516. that was an

  517. encouragement

  518. to pray

  519. if that wasn't

  520. an encouragement

  521. to pray

  522. I don't know

  523. what

  524. will

  525. now this whole

  526. sin that leads

  527. to death

  528. thing

  529. here's my

  530. take on it

  531. and I think

  532. it's right

  533. but we can

  534. chat at the

  535. door afterwards

  536. and fight

  537. if we need

  538. to

  539. he then

  540. gives us

  541. a worked

  542. example

  543. he says

  544. if you see

  545. a brother

  546. or sister

  547. commit a sin

  548. you should

  549. pray

  550. and I will

  551. give them

  552. life

  553. if you see

  554. a brother

  555. or sister

  556. sin

  557. you should

  558. pray

  559. and I will

  560. give them

  561. life

  562. a sin

  563. that doesn't

  564. lead to

  565. death

  566. a sin

  567. that can

  568. be forgiven

  569. what is

  570. the only

  571. sin

  572. that cannot

  573. be forgiven

  574. it is

  575. apostasy

  576. it is

  577. rejecting

  578. the truth

  579. about Jesus

  580. which is

  581. the only

  582. means by

  583. which we

  584. can be

  585. forgiven

  586. so

  587. if we

  588. see a

  589. brother

  590. or sister

  591. commit a

  592. sin

  593. we can

  594. pray for

  595. them

  596. and it is

  597. according to

  598. God's will

  599. that he will

  600. forgive them

  601. and give

  602. them life

  603. the only

  604. prayer that's

  605. not worth

  606. praying is

  607. for somebody

  608. who's rejected

  609. Jesus

  610. because they've

  611. forsaken

  612. the only

  613. means by

  614. which they

  615. can be

  616. forgiven

  617. the forgiveness

  618. is in

  619. Jesus

  620. and if

  621. they've

  622. rejected

  623. Jesus

  624. there's

  625. no hope

  626. of

  627. forgiveness

  628. there's

  629. lots of

  630. other

  631. things we

  632. can pray

  633. for them

  634. that God

  635. would open

  636. their eyes

  637. to the

  638. gospel

  639. that he

  640. would bring

  641. them to

  642. faith in

  643. the Lord

  644. Jesus

  645. that he

  646. would surround

  647. them with

  648. Christians

  649. that he

  650. would bring

  651. dissatisfaction

  652. to their

  653. life so

  654. like the

  655. prodigal son

  656. they would

  657. turn around

  658. and come

  659. to him

  660. but forgiveness

  661. is only

  662. available in

  663. Jesus

  664. so if we

  665. see a

  666. brother or

  667. sister

  668. sin

  669. who knows

  670. and loves

  671. the Lord

  672. Jesus

  673. we can pray

  674. and they

  675. will be

  676. forgiven

  677. I've never

  678. really thought

  679. of this

  680. before

  681. of praying

  682. for forgiveness

  683. for others

  684. but I think

  685. Jesus gives us

  686. an example

  687. as he's nailed

  688. to a cross

  689. father forgive

  690. them

  691. for they do

  692. not know

  693. what they do

  694. Job at the

  695. beginning of

  696. the story

  697. gives sacrifices

  698. and praise

  699. for forgiveness

  700. for his

  701. children in

  702. case they

  703. might have

  704. sinned

  705. what a thing

  706. it would be

  707. as if we

  708. saw people

  709. stumble and

  710. fall and we

  711. prayed for

  712. them instead

  713. of saying

  714. oh do you

  715. know what I

  716. saw them

  717. do

  718. you'll never

  719. guess what

  720. they've gone

  721. and done

  722. now but we

  723. prayed

  724. and took it

  725. to the Lord

  726. sin that leads

  727. to death

  728. the sin of

  729. apostasy

  730. but anything

  731. else let's

  732. pray for each

  733. other that

  734. God would

  735. forgive

  736. what John

  737. has been

  738. telling us

  739. in this part

  740. of the letter

  741. he's giving

  742. us real

  743. certainty about

  744. things even

  745. though they're

  746. unseen

  747. certain of

  748. victory that

  749. we have in

  750. Jesus

  751. certain we

  752. have eternal

  753. life through

  754. Jesus

  755. and certainty

  756. we can come

  757. before God

  758. because of

  759. Jesus

  760. because God

  761. has said it

  762. and he

  763. always tells

  764. the truth

  765. I'll tell you

  766. a true story

  767. of Jimmy

  768. James

  769. what he was

  770. born he's

  771. remarkably

  772. unremarkable

  773. true story

  774. he lived in

  775. Kokodi

  776. he didn't

  777. finish school

  778. and he lived

  779. at home until

  780. he was 40

  781. years old

  782. he was a

  783. very small

  784. man

  785. the only job

  786. he ever had

  787. was to be a

  788. street cleaner

  789. in Kokodi

  790. which if you've

  791. ever been to

  792. Kokodi is a

  793. really big job

  794. he lived at

  795. home with his

  796. mum but

  797. when he was

  798. 40 his mum

  799. died and

  800. his world

  801. fell apart

  802. and in fact

  803. he took to

  804. drink and

  805. became homeless

  806. on the streets

  807. of Edinburgh

  808. his life started

  809. falling apart

  810. dramatically

  811. until one day

  812. he was met

  813. by a street

  814. team from

  815. YWAM

  816. who gave him

  817. time

  818. who gave him

  819. attention

  820. who shared

  821. the gospel

  822. of the Lord

  823. Jesus with

  824. him and

  825. he was

  826. wonderfully

  827. converted

  828. following that

  829. he started

  830. putting his

  831. life back

  832. together

  833. slowly

  834. slowly

  835. although

  836. until the

  837. day he

  838. died

  839. he never

  840. kicked

  841. the drink

  842. eventually

  843. he was

  844. rehoused

  845. back in

  846. Kokodi

  847. and as my

  848. friend Neil

  849. was doing

  850. visitation

  851. around the

  852. local area

  853. of Kokodi

  854. Free Church

  855. they knocked

  856. on Jimmy's

  857. house

  858. and he said

  859. he believed

  860. in Jesus

  861. but he'd

  862. never been

  863. to church

  864. he'd never

  865. been discipled

  866. and so

  867. he started

  868. attending

  869. Kokodi

  870. and he was

  871. pretty rough

  872. and pretty

  873. small

  874. he didn't

  875. really speak

  876. by this

  877. point

  878. he more

  879. just grunted

  880. and yet

  881. he was

  882. loved

  883. by them

  884. a few

  885. years

  886. after attending

  887. Kokodi

  888. Free Church

  889. he was

  890. diagnosed

  891. with terminal

  892. throat

  893. and mouth

  894. cancer

  895. and Neil

  896. went to see

  897. him the day

  898. after the

  899. diagnosis

  900. and said

  901. Jimmy

  902. how do you

  903. feel

  904. the other

  905. side of

  906. that

  907. diagnosis

  908. and Jimmy

  909. in his

  910. own way

  911. said

  912. I am a

  913. conqueror

  914. I'm in

  915. Jesus'

  916. hands

  917. he attended

  918. church

  919. all the time

  920. until he

  921. finally died

  922. of cancer

  923. in fact

  924. he was at

  925. church

  926. the day

  927. before he

  928. died

  929. and as the

  930. cancer

  931. grew and

  932. took hold

  933. of his

  934. life

  935. he could

  936. no longer

  937. speak

  938. at all

  939. and so

  940. all people

  941. would say

  942. to him

  943. is Jimmy

  944. how are

  945. you

  946. and he

  947. would just

  948. do this

  949. I'm a

  950. conqueror

  951. I'm in

  952. Jesus'

  953. hands

  954. here's the

  955. truth

  956. you looked

  957. at Jimmy

  958. you did

  959. not think

  960. he was

  961. a conqueror

  962. you thought

  963. he had

  964. absolutely

  965. nothing

  966. to be

  967. confident

  968. about

  969. but the

  970. reason that

  971. he had

  972. certainty

  973. that he

  974. was a

  975. conqueror

  976. and that

  977. his life

  978. was in

  979. Jesus'

  980. hands

  981. because he

  982. believed

  983. what God

  984. had said

  985. and what

  986. God had

  987. shown

  988. in his

  989. son

  990. Jesus

  991. Christ

  992. 1 John

  993. is written

  994. to give

  995. us real

  996. confidence

  997. and it

  998. gives us

  999. real confidence

  1000. that what

  1001. God says

  1002. God means

  1003. what Jesus

  1004. has done

  1005. is for

  1006. us

  1007. and we

  1008. can have

  1009. absolute

  1010. certainty

  1011. about all

  1012. of these

  1013. things

  1014. and live

  1015. life

  1016. differently

  1017. through our

  1018. faith

  1019. in Jesus

  1020. there's some

  1021. interesting bits

  1022. at the end

  1023. of that

  1024. chapter

  1025. we can always

  1026. speak about

  1027. them at the

  1028. door

  1029. if you're

  1030. interested

  1031. let's

  1032. pray

  1033. father help

  1034. those who

  1035. know you

  1036. to trust

  1037. you

  1038. live for

  1039. you

  1040. and have

  1041. certainty

  1042. about all

  1043. they have

  1044. in your

  1045. son

  1046. that they

  1047. really do

  1048. have victory

  1049. that they

  1050. do really

  1051. have life

  1052. that they

  1053. have access

  1054. to you

  1055. and confidence

  1056. before you

  1057. father God

  1058. help those

  1059. who don't

  1060. know you

  1061. father may

  1062. they meet

  1063. you

  1064. know you

  1065. trust your

  1066. son and

  1067. receive from

  1068. him everything

  1069. that you've

  1070. said you've

  1071. done and

  1072. everything that

  1073. you know you've

  1074. done because

  1075. you've said it

  1076. and you always

  1077. tell the truth

  1078. father we pray

  1079. this in Jesus

  1080. name

  1081. amen

  1082. he

  1083. i
