  1. Hi, my name is Rebecca and I'm one of the members here at Brunsfield.

  2. This morning's reading is from John chapter 18, verses 28 through 40.

    John 18:28–40

  3. Jesus before Pilate.

  4. Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor.

  5. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness,

  6. they did not enter the palace because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

  7. So Pilate came out to them and asked, what charges are you bringing against this man?

  8. If he were not a criminal, they replied, we would not have handed him over to you.

  9. Pilate said, take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.

  10. But we have no right to execute anyone, they objected.

  11. This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.

  12. Pilate then went back inside the palace, summoned Jesus and asked him,

  13. Are you the king of the Jews?

  14. Is that your own idea? Jesus asked.

  15. Or did others talk to you about me?

  16. Am I a Jew? Pilate replied.

  17. Your own people and chief priests handed you over to me.

  18. What is it you have done?

  19. Jesus said, my kingdom is not of this world.

  20. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders.

  21. But now my kingdom is from another place.

  22. You are a king then, said Pilate.

  23. Jesus answered, you say that I am a king.

  24. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth.

  25. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.

  26. What is truth?

  27. Retorted Pilate.

  28. With this, he went out again to the Jews gathered there and said,

  29. I find no basis for a charge against him.

  30. But it is your custom for me to release to you one prisoner at the time of Passover.

  31. Do you want me to release the king of the Jews?

  32. They shouted back, no, not him.

  33. Give us Barabbas.

  34. Now, Barabbas had taken part in an uprising.

  35. Hi, my name is Jonathan.

  36. I'm a member here at Brunsfield.

  37. I'm going to pray as Alistair comes to preach to us.

  38. Father, we bring before you our time together, whether it is where we can't be here physically.

  39. Together, we are together spiritually.

  40. I'm meeting in your name.

  41. We pray for Alistair as he comes to speak to us,

  42. that you would grant him wisdom and grant us the clarity to hear what he has to say

  43. and that we listen and hear clearly in your name.

  44. Amen.

  45. Well, good morning, everyone.

  46. My name is Alistair.

  47. I have the privilege of being the assistant pastor here at Brunsfield

  48. and the privilege of leading us through this wonderful chapter of John's Gospel

  49. as Jesus interacts with a Roman ruler.

  50. But before we dive into this chapter, let's pray together.

  51. Father, we come before you this morning and ask that the words of my mouth

  52. and that the meditations of all of our hearts would be pleasing to you.

  53. In the name of Jesus Christ, our rock and our redeemer.

  54. Amen.

  55. One of the big questions that people are asking in the world is,

  56. what is truth?

  57. So truth can be seen by some as relative,

  58. meaning that there's no such thing as one definite truth.

  59. Everything is up for grabs.

  60. You choose to believe what you want,

  61. even if there's no evidence for it,

  62. or even if the evidence runs contrary to what you think.

  63. You can almost pick and choose what truth is.

  64. A common phrase you might hear today is,

  65. your truth.

  66. It's become a strapline, a phrase that seems to be inclusive and loving,

  67. but in reality, it denies facts and hard evidence for feelings and wishful thinking.

  68. It's become a phrase that characterizes self-help sections in bookstores.

  69. A phrase that's used to encourage those deemed different by the rest of society.

  70. And a phrase to encourage those who feel discouraged.

  71. You live your truth, people say.

  72. But it isn't that easy.

  73. Because the big question that that phrase never actually addresses is,

  74. well, what is truth?

  75. If truth is something that we can be flexible with,

  76. if it is something that we can choose,

  77. something that we decide for ourselves,

  78. then it's not truth at all.

  79. It's speculation.

  80. It's a theory.

  81. Truth becomes nothing more than an idea to be discarded.

  82. Well, this morning in John chapter 18,

    John 18 chapter mention

  83. we're going to meet a Roman ruler who asks that question,

  84. what is truth?

  85. And he asks the question because Jesus is brought into his courtroom

  86. and the Jewish leaders are calling him a criminal.

  87. And Pilate sees a difference.

  88. Some people call Jesus a criminal,

  89. while some call him king of the Jews.

  90. So what is the truth?

  91. Well, we're going to walk through this passage this morning,

  92. almost verse by verse,

  93. and just let the narrative guide us to the main point we're going to see this morning,

  94. which is this,

  95. that Jesus is the true king,

  96. the innocent,

  97. who takes the place of the guilty.

  98. So let's dive in together and read with me at verse 28.

  99. Then the Jewish leaders took Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor.

  100. By now it was early morning.

  101. The night before the events in our verses for this morning,

  102. Jesus was praying in the garden of Gethsemane.

  103. And one of his disciples,

  104. one of his followers,

  105. one of his friends,

  106. came in and betrayed him with a kiss

  107. and handed him over to the Jewish leaders,

  108. a group of people who'd wanted Jesus dead from the very beginning.

  109. And now they have their chance.

  110. And what follows is a botched trial.

  111. Jesus is taken to the high priest's house

  112. and questioned by an illegitimate court

  113. who meet in secret

  114. in the middle of the night

  115. because they know that they have no case against Jesus.

  116. He has done no wrong.

  117. But that's not what they care about.

  118. They don't care about justice.

  119. They don't care about truth.

  120. They want him dead.

  121. And so in verse 28,

  122. as morning breaks,

  123. they take him to Pilate,

  124. to the Roman governor.

  125. But look at the detail in verse 28.

  126. It says,

  127. to avoid ceremonial uncleanness.

  128. They did not enter the palace

  129. because they wanted to be able to eat the Passover.

  130. So the religious leaders won't enter the palace

  131. because they want to avoid ceremonial uncleanness.

  132. They want to be able to continue to celebrate

  133. the festival of unleavened bread

  134. that was happening in Jerusalem that very week

  135. and which concluded with the Passover meal.

  136. A meal to remember how God had saved the Israelites in the past

  137. by delivering them from slavery in Egypt.

  138. The irony is

  139. that they are rejecting the final Passover lamb

  140. and scheming for the death,

  141. for his death in such a hurry

  142. so that they can sit and celebrate

  143. how God saved them years ago.

  144. They are rejecting God's ultimate means of salvation

  145. even though he is standing right before them.

  146. They are killing the sacrificial lamb,

  147. the Passover lamb.

  148. According to their own oral law,

  149. Jews were not allowed to enter into the house of a Gentile,

  150. someone who was not a Jew.

  151. And if they did, they were deemed unclean

  152. and needed to undergo a cleaning ritual

  153. that would take a number of days.

  154. And so they stayed outside of the palace.

  155. But do you see the hypocrisy

  156. in this whole episode?

  157. They want to be clean

  158. even though hours before this very event

  159. they had beaten Jesus.

  160. And even now as they are trying to have the appearance of being clean,

  161. they are manipulating the judicial system

  162. to get their own way.

  163. You see the reason they take Jesus

  164. to be tried before a Roman ruler

  165. is they don't have the authority

  166. to execute anyone.

  167. Only the Roman authorities

  168. could command that.

  169. These men know the law of God

  170. and they are keen to obey it.

  171. In fact, they are so keen

  172. that they keep adding their laws

  173. on top of God's law

  174. to prevent disobedience.

  175. But the problem was

  176. that they thought their knowledge of the law

  177. equaled obedience.

  178. You could say that the religious leaders

  179. were over-educated

  180. but untransformed by the word of God.

  181. Rebecca Pippitt, an author from the US

  182. sums this up well.

  183. It is of no use to say

  184. we believe in something

  185. when our actions betray our beliefs.

  186. To know is not only to verbalize

  187. and intellectualize.

  188. It is to submit in obedience

  189. with our lives as well.

  190. Now I think that there's a challenge

  191. in there for us this morning.

  192. It is not the main point of our passage

  193. but it should make us reflect

  194. on the consistency of our lives.

  195. As Christians,

  196. are we being transformed

  197. by the knowledge that we have

  198. of God and of the Bible

  199. or are we trying to keep up

  200. an outward appearance

  201. of holy lives

  202. without really being transformed?

  203. You see, these men knew their Bibles

  204. but they didn't understand

  205. that the law was there

  206. to show them their inability

  207. to be righteous.

  208. Their need for forgiveness from God.

  209. Their hypocrisy

  210. led to self-righteousness.

  211. Beating a man one hour

  212. and then claiming holiness

  213. and cleanliness the next.

  214. But that isn't too unfamiliar today,

  215. is it?

  216. It's so easy to have a Barney

  217. with the family

  218. just as you are on your way to church

  219. but then you walk through the doors

  220. and you put on a fake smile

  221. and you pretend everything's okay

  222. until you sit back in the car seat again.

  223. Or maybe, like the religious leaders,

  224. we're tempted to think that evil,

  225. that sin is only something external

  226. to ourselves

  227. rather than something

  228. that comes from within.

  229. Reflect on how you are behaving

  230. when no one's watching.

  231. How are you engaging with God's Word

  232. and your worship of Him

  233. every day

  234. but maybe even now

  235. on a Sunday morning

  236. when the service is online

  237. and no one is around you?

  238. Have you been transformed

  239. by the Word of God?

  240. We need to know the Word of God

  241. but we also need to be transformed by it

  242. and live in submission

  243. to it and to God's will.

  244. So the religious leaders

  245. in an act of absolute hypocrisy

  246. bring Jesus before Pilate

  247. because he has a reputation

  248. of being a harsh leader.

  249. He doesn't really like the Jews.

  250. He's presiding over Judea,

  251. one of the regions

  252. in the Roman Empire

  253. known for its trouble,

  254. for its religious riots

  255. and uprisings.

  256. And Pilate is known

  257. for his brutality.

  258. And so the religious leaders

  259. think that this execution

  260. is a done deal.

  261. But Pilate does the unexpected

  262. in verse 29

  263. because he opens the court

  264. with the proper proceedings

  265. by asking the question,

  266. what charges are you bringing

  267. against this man?

  268. Now at this point,

  269. you can almost feel the blood drain

  270. from the faces of the Pharisees

  271. and religious leaders,

  272. can't you?

  273. You can almost hear the whispering

  274. in the crowd

  275. as they're wondering

  276. how to respond

  277. to this question

  278. because they know

  279. they have no case

  280. against Jesus.

  281. They know that he has done

  282. no wrong.

  283. In fact,

  284. the only thing that he has done

  285. is preach the truth

  286. about God to them.

  287. And he has called them out

  288. on their religious acts

  289. which glorify man,

  290. not God.

  291. And so they snap back

  292. at Pilate in verse 30.

  293. We wouldn't have brought him here

  294. if he wasn't a criminal.

  295. But they don't answer

  296. the question

  297. because they have no leg

  298. to stand on.

  299. And so Pilate dismisses them

  300. and tells them to judge Jesus

  301. by their own law.

  302. But we see their real motives

  303. for this perversion of justice

  304. in verse 31

  305. where it says,

  306. but we have no right

  307. to execute anyone.

  308. They want Jesus dead

  309. and they will stop at nothing

  310. until it is done.

  311. Now at this point in the story

  312. we might be tempted to think

  313. that Jesus is a lost cause.

  314. That he has no more control.

  315. That his life will be taken away

  316. and that he will just be

  317. another victim of injustice.

  318. But friends,

  319. we need to remember

  320. that before these men

  321. stands Jesus Christ,

  322. the Son of God,

  323. God in the flesh,

  324. the one who healed the sick,

  325. the one who taught people

  326. about God,

  327. the one who stilled

  328. the waves with his words,

  329. the one who raised people

  330. from the dead,

  331. and the one who knows

  332. exactly what is happening.

  333. Verse 32,

  334. this took place

  335. to fulfill

  336. what Jesus had said

  337. about the kind of death

  338. he was going to die.

  339. Jesus is in absolute control

  340. of what is going on here.

  341. In fact,

  342. this has all been part

  343. of God's plan

  344. from the very beginning

  345. of time.

  346. Jesus even told

  347. his disciples

  348. in John chapter 12

    John 12:32–33

  349. verses 32 to 33

  350. that he would be lifted up,

  351. meaning that he would die

  352. on a cross.

  353. And so in this chapter

  354. and the next,

  355. it is all about power.

  356. Pilate and the religious leaders,

  357. they think they're

  358. the ones in control.

  359. That they're the ones

  360. who have power

  361. and who are controlling

  362. the events leading up

  363. to Jesus' death.

  364. But the reality is

  365. that these people

  366. have not realized

  367. the truth.

  368. That the one true king

  369. stands before them

  370. and he is in control.

  371. He is fulfilling

  372. the father's plan

  373. and willingly

  374. going to the cross

  375. to die.

  376. The innocent

  377. for the guilty.

  378. unsatisfied

  379. with the religious leaders,

  380. Pilate summons Jesus

  381. into the palace

  382. in verse 33

  383. and asks

  384. a question

  385. that's been on his mind

  386. this whole time.

  387. Are you

  388. the king

  389. of the Jews?

  390. Now this indicated

  391. that the charge

  392. the religious leaders

  393. had brought

  394. against Jesus

  395. were framed

  396. in political terms

  397. rather than

  398. the theological

  399. grievance

  400. that they had

  401. with his works

  402. and his words.

  403. But Pilate

  404. is basically

  405. asking Jesus

  406. are you a threat

  407. to the power

  408. of Rome?

  409. See Pilate knows

  410. that any mention

  411. of another king

  412. any mention

  413. or rumour

  414. of an uprising

  415. must be dealt

  416. with immediately.

  417. And so when he

  418. hears about Jesus

  419. being a king

  420. he feels this need

  421. to defend

  422. his power.

  423. But Jesus

  424. doesn't answer

  425. Pilate's question

  426. plainly with a yes

  427. or with a no

  428. because he needs

  429. to know

  430. the kind of kingship

  431. Pilate is asking about.

  432. See Pilate

  433. could have been asking

  434. if Jesus

  435. was a rebel king

  436. who would

  437. lead

  438. a rebellion

  439. against the Roman Empire

  440. try to overthrow

  441. them and kick

  442. them out

  443. of Jerusalem.

  444. Or Pilate's

  445. asking

  446. he could be

  447. asking

  448. are you the

  449. Messiah king?

  450. The Old Testament

  451. king that all

  452. of the Jews

  453. are waiting for

  454. the one who

  455. would come

  456. and save

  457. the Lord's

  458. people.

  459. Pilate isn't

  460. satisfied with

  461. his findings

  462. and so he

  463. asked Jesus

  464. in verse 35

  465. what have you

  466. done?

  467. and in verse 36

  468. we get a very

  469. important response

  470. that teaches us

  471. about who Jesus

  472. is

  473. and about the

  474. nature of his

  475. kingdom.

  476. Jesus said

  477. my kingdom

  478. is not of this

  479. world if it were

  480. my servants

  481. would fight

  482. to prevent

  483. my arrest

  484. by the religious

  485. leaders

  486. but now

  487. my kingdom

  488. is from

  489. another place.

  490. Jesus tells

  491. Pilate that

  492. he is a

  493. king

  494. but not

  495. in the way

  496. that Pilate

  497. thinks.

  498. Jesus'

  499. kingdom

  500. is not

  501. of this

  502. world

  503. meaning

  504. that it

  505. is of

  506. no threat

  507. to Pilate

  508. or to

  509. Rome

  510. in the

  511. way

  512. that

  513. Pilate

  514. thinks

  515. because

  516. the kingdom

  517. of Jesus

  518. did not

  519. come about

  520. through

  521. violence

  522. or force

  523. like all

  524. the other

  525. kingdoms

  526. of the

  527. world.

  528. the

  529. kingdom

  530. of God

  531. is not

  532. bound

  533. to a

  534. physical

  535. location

  536. or region

  537. the kingdom

  538. of God

  539. is not

  540. political

  541. and to

  542. prove

  543. his point

  544. Jesus

  545. basically

  546. says to

  547. Pilate

  548. if my

  549. kingdom

  550. were like

  551. those

  552. of this

  553. world

  554. do you

  555. really

  556. think

  557. that the

  558. religious

  559. leaders

  560. would have

  561. so easily

  562. arrested

  563. me?

  564. See

  565. Jesus is

  566. making it

  567. clear that

  568. he is

  569. a king

  570. but not

  571. a king

  572. who sits

  573. on a

  574. throne

  575. in a

  576. luxurious

  577. palace

  578. not a

  579. king

  580. who

  581. surrounds

  582. himself

  583. with

  584. armies

  585. and

  586. bodyguards

  587. and not

  588. a king

  589. whose focus

  590. is his

  591. own

  592. personal

  593. gain

  594. but instead

  595. Jesus

  596. is the

  597. servant

  598. king

  599. he is

  600. the

  601. perfect

  602. king

  603. the

  604. true

  605. king

  606. the

  607. sinless

  608. king

  609. who

  610. rules

  611. and who

  612. reigns

  613. over a

  614. heavenly

  615. kingdom

  616. that no

  617. man

  618. that no

  619. army

  620. that no

  621. Roman

  622. ruler

  623. that no

  624. religious

  625. leader

  626. can

  627. defeat

  628. the

  629. kingdom

  630. of God

  631. is like

  632. no other

  633. kingdom

  634. that Pilate

  635. can

  636. imagine

  637. but

  638. Jesus

  639. isn't

  640. saying

  641. that his

  642. kingdom

  643. won't

  644. affect

  645. the

  646. world

  647. we live

  648. approximately

  649. 2000

  650. years

  651. on

  652. from the

  653. life

  654. death

  655. and

  656. resurrection

  657. of Jesus

  658. and we

  659. can look

  660. over

  661. history

  662. and we

  663. can

  664. know

  665. for

  666. certain

  667. and we

  668. can see

  669. how God's

  670. kingdom

  671. has changed

  672. the world

  673. but the

  674. point that

  675. Jesus is

  676. making is

  677. that his

  678. kingdom

  679. will not

  680. affect the

  681. Roman Empire

  682. like another

  683. earthly kingdom

  684. would

  685. because Jesus

  686. is king

  687. of the

  688. heavenly

  689. kingdom

  690. so you

  691. are a

  692. king

  693. Pilate

  694. says

  695. and Jesus

  696. answers

  697. in verse

  698. 37

  699. but it

  700. doesn't

  701. quite come

  702. across

  703. so well

  704. in our

  705. NIVs

  706. a better

  707. translation

  708. would be

  709. you're

  710. right

  711. I am

  712. a king

  713. in fact

  714. the reason

  715. I was

  716. born

  717. and came

  718. into this

  719. world

  720. is to

  721. testify

  722. to the

  723. truth

  724. everyone

  725. on the

  726. side of

  727. truth

  728. listens

  729. to me

  730. now here

  731. comes that

  732. pivotal

  733. question

  734. what

  735. is

  736. truth

  737. Pilate

  738. asks

  739. the answer

  740. is

  741. Jesus

  742. in John

    John 14:4–6

  743. 14

  744. verses 4

  745. to 6

  746. Jesus

  747. said

  748. I am

  749. the way

  750. the truth

  751. and the

  752. life

  753. no one

  754. comes to

  755. the father

  756. except

  757. through me

  758. if you

  759. really know

  760. me

  761. you will

  762. know my

  763. father as

  764. well

  765. from now

  766. on you

  767. do know

  768. him

  769. and have

  770. seen

  771. him

  772. friends

  773. the truth

  774. is

  775. that Jesus

  776. Christ is

  777. God in

  778. the flesh

  779. that Jesus

  780. humbled himself

  781. and took the

  782. form of human

  783. flesh to

  784. reveal God

  785. to us

  786. to reveal

  787. the glory

  788. of God

  789. to a

  790. sinful

  791. world

  792. what's the

  793. truth

  794. well it's

  795. that the

  796. religious

  797. leaders

  798. that

  799. Pilate

  800. that you

  801. and me

  802. need our

  803. eyes to

  804. be opened

  805. we need

  806. to see

  807. the glory

  808. of God

  809. we need

  810. to understand

  811. our sinfulness

  812. and our

  813. inability to

  814. be made

  815. right with

  816. God

  817. without a

  818. sacrifice

  819. without a

  820. Passover

  821. lamb

  822. Jesus

  823. opened the

  824. eyes of

  825. the blind

  826. he taught

  827. the truth

  828. about God

  829. and he

  830. brought the

  831. kingdom of

  832. God

  833. into this

  834. world

  835. the truth

  836. is that the

  837. kingdom of

  838. God is

  839. here

  840. and the

  841. only way

  842. to enter

  843. into that

  844. glorious

  845. kingdom

  846. is because

  847. of the

  848. events that

  849. unfold that

  850. very day

  851. in Jerusalem

  852. as Jesus

  853. the perfect

  854. the true

  855. king is

  856. nailed to

  857. a cruel

  858. cross

  859. bearing all

  860. the weight

  861. and punishment

  862. and punishment

  863. for our

  864. sin

  865. or the

  866. just and

  867. righteous

  868. wrath of

  869. God

  870. against a

  871. rebellious

  872. sinful

  873. humanity

  874. the truth

  875. is

  876. that the

  877. true king

  878. was nailed

  879. to a cruel

  880. cross

  881. the innocent

  882. died

  883. so that the

  884. guilty

  885. can live

  886. and that

  887. is why

  888. Jesus says

  889. in verse

  890. 37

  891. everyone on

  892. the side

  893. of truth

  894. listens to

  895. me

  896. this is a

  897. call for

  898. Pilate

  899. and this is a

  900. call for you

  901. this morning

  902. if you are not

  903. a Christian

  904. to open your

  905. eyes and see

  906. the majesty

  907. of this king

  908. who willingly

  909. died so that

  910. you can live

  911. it's a call

  912. for you to

  913. put your

  914. trust in

  915. Jesus

  916. to come

  917. into his

  918. kingdom

  919. to see

  920. the truth

  921. it's an

  922. invitation

  923. to see

  924. Jesus

  925. for who

  926. he is

  927. the true

  928. king

  929. the innocent

  930. one

  931. who takes

  932. the place

  933. of the

  934. guilty

  935. and for

  936. the Christian

  937. the challenge

  938. is do we

  939. really listen

  940. to

  941. and submit

  942. to Jesus

  943. we can't

  944. treat our

  945. salvation

  946. like a

  947. get into

  948. heaven

  949. free card

  950. we are

  951. called to

  952. follow Jesus

  953. to submit

  954. to him

  955. to hold

  956. heartedly

  957. live our

  958. lives out

  959. of service

  960. and devotion

  961. to him

  962. are we

  963. listening to

  964. and acting

  965. on the

  966. words of

  967. Jesus

  968. Christ

  969. Pilate

  970. says in

  971. verse 38

  972. that he

  973. finds no

  974. basis

  975. for a

  976. charge

  977. against

  978. Jesus

  979. and he

  980. says it

  981. twice more

  982. in chapter

  983. 19

  984. and yet

  985. the religious

  986. leaders still

  987. cry out

  988. crucify him

  989. why

  990. because they

  991. don't want to

  992. see the

  993. truth

  994. they don't

  995. want to

  996. recognize that

  997. Jesus is the

  998. king of

  999. kings and

  1000. lord of

  1001. lords

  1002. they don't

  1003. want to

  1004. recognize that

  1005. Jesus is

  1006. innocent because

  1007. they are

  1008. content to

  1009. think that they

  1010. have all the

  1011. power that

  1012. they have all

  1013. the control

  1014. the truth is

  1015. that Jesus was

  1016. in control

  1017. this whole

  1018. time

  1019. that he is

  1020. the true

  1021. king who

  1022. willingly

  1023. willingly

  1024. was nailed

  1025. to a cross

  1026. to make

  1027. forgiveness

  1028. possible and

  1029. rose three

  1030. days later

  1031. triumphant

  1032. from the grave

  1033. defeating sin

  1034. defeating death

  1035. and calling

  1036. people to

  1037. repent

  1038. to believe

  1039. in him

  1040. and to

  1041. enter into

  1042. his kingdom

  1043. Christian

  1044. look at

  1045. these wonderful

  1046. truths before

  1047. us in this

  1048. passage and

  1049. make them

  1050. move you

  1051. to whole

  1052. hearted

  1053. worship of

  1054. who Jesus

  1055. is

  1056. marvel at

  1057. the wonderful

  1058. grace that

  1059. this perfect

  1060. innocent king

  1061. died in

  1062. your place

  1063. meaning that

  1064. you can have

  1065. the privilege

  1066. of being in

  1067. the kingdom

  1068. of God

  1069. and that

  1070. truth should

  1071. blow our

  1072. minds every

  1073. single time

  1074. we think

  1075. about it

  1076. and we

  1077. should give

  1078. all the

  1079. honor and

  1080. all the

  1081. glory to

  1082. God and

  1083. it should

  1084. lead us to

  1085. praise him

  1086. with everything

  1087. we are and

  1088. everything we

  1089. have we

  1090. should sing

  1091. endless praises

  1092. of our

  1093. great God

  1094. never cease

  1095. giving thanks

  1096. for our

  1097. wonderful

  1098. savior

  1099. and for

  1100. the true

  1101. gospel

  1102. but don't

  1103. stop there

  1104. because our

  1105. world is

  1106. searching for

  1107. truth and

  1108. we have it

  1109. we can open

  1110. our bibles and

  1111. see Jesus

  1112. truth personified

  1113. God in the

  1114. flesh who

  1115. calls people to

  1116. enter into his

  1117. kingdom

  1118. kingdom and we

  1119. are to be

  1120. ambassadors of

  1121. that kingdom

  1122. we are to

  1123. proclaim it to

  1124. the ends of

  1125. the earth

  1126. to proclaim it

  1127. to the

  1128. distant shores

  1129. to go to the

  1130. distant shores

1131. but also to go to

  1132. the neighbor

  1133. next door

  1134. because everybody

  1135. needs to hear

  1136. about Jesus

  1137. in Jesus we

  1138. find the hope

  1139. the satisfaction

  1140. that this world

  1141. is longing

  1142. for and we

  1143. have a future

  1144. that is secured

  1145. through the death

  1146. and resurrection

  1147. of Jesus Christ

  1148. so go

  1149. take the gospel

  1150. to the world

  1151. and plead for

  1152. people to enter

  1153. into the kingdom

  1154. of God

  1155. we know the

  1156. truth

  1157. and the world

  1158. needs to know

  1159. him too

  1160. and if you're

  1161. not a Christian

  1162. I would ask you

  1163. please investigate

  1164. the life of

  1165. Jesus Christ

  1166. the evidence

  1167. is overwhelming

  1168. look and see

  1169. that his claims

  1170. are true

  1171. he is the

  1172. true king

  1173. the only

  1174. innocent one

  1175. who took the

  1176. place of the

  1177. guilty

  1178. he died

  1179. so that sinners

  1180. like you

  1181. and like me

  1182. can live

  1183. will you put

  1184. your trust

  1185. in Jesus

  1186. this morning

  1187. and find

  1188. truth

  1189. one of the

  1190. biggest questions

  1191. that people

  1192. need to ask

  1193. in our world

  1194. is that question

  1195. what is

  1196. truth

  1197. and the answer

  1198. that we can

  1199. boldly

  1200. and with

  1201. confidence

  1202. proclaimed

  1203. to the

  1204. world

  1205. is that

  1206. Jesus

  1207. is the

  1208. way

  1209. the truth

  1210. and the

  1211. life

  1212. let's pray

  1213. together

  1214. heavenly father

  1215. we thank you

  1216. so much

  1217. that from

  1218. the very

  1219. beginning

  1220. of time

  1221. you had

  1222. your plan

  1223. of salvation

  1224. in place

  1225. whereby

  1226. you

  1227. would take

  1228. on flesh

  1229. you would

  1230. become one

  1231. of us

  1232. step into

  1233. our sinful

  1234. broken

  1235. sin

  1236. stained

  1237. world

  1238. and die

  1239. on a cross

  1240. so that

  1241. people can

  1242. be forgiven

  1243. and enter

  1244. into a

  1245. relationship

  1246. with you

  1247. father

  1248. thank you

  1249. that you

  1250. have revealed

  1251. the truth

  1252. to us

  1253. by your

  1254. spirit

  1255. through the

  1256. person

  1257. of Jesus

  1258. Christ

  1259. would you

  1260. help us

  1261. live out

  1262. that truth

  1263. would you

  1264. help us

  1265. live in

  1266. obedience

  1267. and submission

  1268. to your

  1269. word

  1270. and would you

  1271. help us

  1272. glorify you

  1273. with everything

  1274. that we do

  1275. and say

  1276. we ask this

  1277. for the

  1278. upbuilding

  1279. of your

  1280. kingdom

  1281. and in the

  1282. name of our

  1283. precious

  1284. saviour

  1285. Jesus

  1286. Christ

  1287. amen

  1288. as

  1289. how to

  1290. know

  1291. as

  1292. Actually

  1293. at reminded

  1294. the

  1295. of the

  1296. people

  1297. and

  1298. they

  1299. have

  1300. escaped

  1301. and they

  1302. were

  1303. here

  1304. and they

  1305. could they

  1306. join us

  1307. and they

  1308. use

  1309. that
