  1. Well, thank you very much, Alice.

  2. Please do keep that passage open in front of you as we explore it over the next few minutes.

  3. But let us pray together before we do that. Let's pray.

  4. Heavenly Father, we come before you this morning and recognize that to understand your word,

  5. we need your spirit to work in our hearts.

  6. And so, Father, that is our prayer, that you would soften our hearts,

  7. that we would hear your word and, Father, that we would be transformed.

  8. We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

  9. I recently saw a funny video that was a secret social experiment

  10. to see how people copy those around them without really thinking about it too much.

  11. So they filmed a doctor's surgery waiting room and there were 10 people sitting in this surgery.

  12. It was before COVID, don't worry.

  13. But nine of those 10 people were actors.

  14. And one of the people there was the test subject, but they didn't know that they were being tested.

  15. And every minute or so, a buzzing sound would come over the speakers

  16. and all the actors would stand up for a few seconds and then sit down.

  17. The test subject confused the first time he saw it, wasn't sure what was going on,

  18. but then the second time stood up confidently.

  19. And as it continued time and time again, his confidence grew.

  20. But then one by one, the actors left the room and the buzzing sound continued.

  21. With each buzz, he stood up with more and more confidence.

  22. And yet the point where he was alone in the room.

  23. All the actors had left.

  24. The buzzing came on.

  25. No pressure to conform to those around him.

  26. No peer pressure.

  27. And yet he still stood up.

  28. Now this is a silly and small experiment which points to a deeper and more serious reality

  29. that we conform to, we copy what goes on around us.

  30. And I'm saying this because it has something to do with our passage this morning.

  31. Because in these short verses in Revelation chapter 2,

    Revelation 2 chapter mention

  32. we're going to hear a sober warning.

  33. Not to conform to the world around us.

  34. The warning in this passage that should be sending off alarm bells in our minds

  35. is that we cannot hold to Christ and to the world.

  36. We cannot conform to the sinful patterns that are always going on around us.

  37. Do not conform to the world, Jesus says, but cling to him.

  38. Last week in Smyrna, the church were suffering persecution

  39. and they were in need of encouragement.

  40. So Jesus revealed himself to them as the first and the last.

  41. The one who had died, but also the one who had risen to life again.

  42. And each of these letters in the book of Revelation begin with a description of Jesus

  43. that is particularly relevant to the situation of each church.

  44. So turn with me to verse 12 and see how our passage begins this morning.

  45. These are the words of him who has the sharp, double-edged sword.

  46. Now we might read that and think, yes, how encouraging.

  47. Jesus is reminding this church who are suffering that he has the power and the means to protect them.

  48. But we need to take the whole Bible into consideration when we look at this verse

  49. because that is not what Jesus is saying.

  50. If you flick over a few pages previously to Hebrews chapter 4 verse 12, this is what it says.

    Hebrews 4:12

  51. For the word of God is alive and active, sharper than any two double-edged sword.

  52. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow.

  53. It judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

  54. This sword is the word of God proceeding from the mouth of Jesus.

  55. And we see that in Revelation chapter 1 verse 16.

    Revelation 1:16

  56. Jesus is warning the church in Pergamum that he will come

  57. and he will use this sword on the body of believers that meet there.

  58. With this word of God, Jesus comes and uncovers, he lays bare the hearts of the people in this church

  59. and he judges their hearts.

  60. And he sees something that he commends.

  61. But he also sees something that he condemns.

  62. And that will be subject to his judgment.

  63. Friends, that is why it is so important that everything we believe is based on the Bible.

  64. Not what culture says.

  65. Not what the newest, trendiest religious leader says.

  66. And definitely not what the world says.

  67. Everything we believe must come from this book because it is God's revealed word.

  68. And on that final day, as we all stand before Christ,

  69. he will judge with power and authority.

  70. So at the beginning of this short letter to the church in Pergamum,

  71. we get this warning from Jesus that he will uncover everything

  72. and judge the hearts of this church.

  73. Jesus sees what's going on.

  74. And he sees something he commends and something he condemns.

  75. Well, the first thing we see in this passage is what Jesus commends in verses 12 to 13.

  76. Jesus commends.

  77. So Jesus begins, as he does with most of these letters,

  78. encouraging this church with reasons that he has to commend them.

  79. But notice how he starts in verse 13.

  80. This is the voice of a loving Lord and Savior.

  81. This is the voice of comfort and reassurance.

  82. This is not a threat.

  83. But Jesus says he knows their situation.

  84. If you were on the street and you saw someone crying on their knees in pain and agony

  85. as they are afflicted and neglected,

  86. what would you do?

  87. If someone felt alone and abandoned,

  88. well, you would get down on your knees next to them, wouldn't you?

  89. When someone's entire life seems to have fallen away from under their feet,

  90. you sit with them in their pain and you listen.

  91. Listen, that is what Jesus is doing here.

  92. He's drawing alongside a church that is hurting and he's saying,

  93. look, you're not alone.

  94. I know where you live.

  95. I know the situation you find yourselves in and I am here for you.

  96. The church in Pergamum, or your Bible may say Pergamos,

  97. it's the same city.

  98. This city was very religious.

  99. There were temples to both Greek and Roman gods,

  100. temples to Zeus and Athena and more,

  101. and three temples dedicated to the worship of the Roman emperor.

  102. That is why twice in these few verses,

  103. this city is described as the place where Satan lives

  104. or the place where Satan has his throne.

  105. And as we thought about last week with Archie,

  106. the first century Christians initially had protection under the Roman Empire

  107. because they were thought to be Jews.

  108. But at this point, that protection had stopped.

  109. Now they were being seen as a sect like everybody else

  110. and they needed to conform to the pagan worship that was going on around them

  111. and pay homage to and worship the emperor.

  112. Pergamum isn't called the city of Satan specifically because of emperor worship.

  113. The emperor here is not Satan.

  114. But Pergamum is called the city where Satan lives

  115. because this whole city was characterized by worshiping false gods.

  116. It invaded every area of life.

  117. If you wanted to be someone in this city,

  118. you needed to go to the right festivals,

  119. the right meetings,

  120. the right celebrations,

  121. all revolving around pagan worship.

  122. Satan has power in this city.

  123. And he has his people there who are making life horrible for Christians.

  124. It was so bad that Antipas was martyred.

  125. Now we know next to nothing about this man

  126. except for the description Jesus gives him here as a faithful witness

  127. or a better translation of that word is a faithful martyr.

  128. Jesus describes himself in the same way in Revelation chapter 1 verse 5.

    Revelation 1:5

  129. So this man followed in the example of Jesus

  130. and gave up his life for his faith.

  131. But even in this city where Satan has power,

  132. the resounding truth that the Bible teaches

  133. and the repeated emphasis of the whole book of Revelation

  134. is that no matter what weapons Satan throws against you,

  135. no matter what weapons Satan does use,

  136. Jesus wins.

  137. Jesus wins.

  138. Does Satan have power?

  139. Yes, he does.

  140. But that power is held in check

  141. by a God who is in control of all things.

  142. Satan is a defeated foe

  143. who will never, ever overcome the Lord's people.

  144. But Jesus knows that this is a hard place for them to live in.

  145. And so he says to this hurting church,

  146. I know your situation.

  147. Yet be comforted because I know that you remain true to my name

  148. and have not renounced your faith in me.

  149. This church stood firm in the face of opposition and persecution

  150. when the pressure around them was mounting up

  151. to renounce Christ for a more comfortable life

  152. so that they could join in with the world.

  153. Just renounce Christ.

  154. That was what they were being told every day.

  155. Some people in this church stood firm in their faith

  156. and they said no.

  157. When the world came knocking

  158. and they were being dragged through the mud,

  159. they would not bow to fake gods

  160. and renounce Jesus.

  161. They stood firm.

  162. Friends, can the same be true about us?

  163. Would Jesus say the same thing?

  164. We need to hold fast to our confession in Jesus.

  165. Stand firm in face of opposition and persecution.

  166. We are surrounded by a world

  167. and people who worship a plethora of fake gods.

  168. Sure, they may not be graven idols

  169. that we see on people's mantelpieces

  170. as we go into their homes,

  171. but the world idolizes sex as a thing to chase after

  172. and enjoy regardless of the costs.

  173. And that is contrary to the Christian worldview

  174. that sex is to be enjoyed between one man

  175. and one woman in the covenant marriage relationship.

  176. And when we stand up for those truths,

  177. we will be opposed.

  178. When the world thinks about success

  179. and it pushes that idea

  180. that you need to have a big house,

  181. a flashy car, the latest upgrade,

  182. the newest branded clothes,

  183. we are called to stand firm in Christ

  184. and not get sucked into the idolatry around us.

  185. But what about those times

  186. when everyone is acting a certain way,

  187. mocking the government,

  188. breaking the guidelines,

  189. getting drunk,

  190. and the list continues?

  191. As Christians, we should stand firm.

  192. It will mean that we are seen as weird.

  193. It will mean that we will be sidelined and shunned,

  194. but it is better to live for the approval of Christ

  195. than it is the approval of the world.

  196. Jesus says to you this morning,

  197. if this is you,

  198. I know where you live.

  199. Sure, our situation is not the same

  200. as the church in Pergamon.

  201. We're not being persecuted to this extent.

  202. But the reality is the same.

  203. And Jesus draws near to you this morning

  204. and he says,

  205. I know your struggles.

  206. I know your pain.

  207. I know your temptations.

  208. Friends, my prayer is that

  209. for every single one of us,

  210. Jesus could say,

  211. yet you remain true to my name.

  212. You did not renounce your faith in me.

  213. Jesus commends this church in Pergamon

  214. because even in their suffering,

  215. they hold firm to Christ.

  216. But at the same time,

  217. there were those in the church

  218. who were flirting with the world.

  219. And the second thing we see in this passage

  220. is what Jesus condemns

  221. in verses 14 to 17.

  222. Jesus condemns.

  223. The big problem in the church in Pergamon

  224. is that there were Christians,

  225. regulars at church,

  226. those who sat in services week in,

  227. week out,

  228. listened to their teaching and sermons

  229. and yet were compromising their faith

  230. and mixing it in with the ways of the world.

  231. And there were also those

  232. who knew it was happening

  233. and did nothing about it.

  234. There were some in this church

  235. who were trying to have their feet

  236. in two camps,

  237. in the church and in the world.

  238. But like every spy movie

  239. has ever taught us,

  240. working for two completely different sides

  241. never works.

  242. There were some who were professing Jesus

  243. with their mouths

  244. but engaging in pagan worship

  245. at the same time.

  246. They would sit in services,

  247. be saying and doing all the right things

  248. but then go home

  249. and do things completely contrary

  250. to the word of God.

  251. They were playing a dangerous game.

  252. Jesus says in verse 14,

  253. read with me,

  254. There are some among you

  255. who hold to the teaching of Balaam,

  256. who taught Balak to entice the Israelites

  257. to sin so that they ate food,

  258. sacrificed to idols

  259. and committed sexual immorality.

  260. Likewise,

  261. you also have those

  262. who hold to the teaching

  263. of the Nicolaitans.

  264. There were people in this church

  265. who thought that they could hold

  266. the teaching of Christ,

  267. the teaching of the Christian faith

  268. at the same time

  269. as that of other religious leaders

  270. and establishments

  271. that promoted sexual immorality

  272. and eating food

  273. that had been sacrificed to idols.

  274. The problem in this church

  275. is that sexual immorality

  276. and idolatry

  277. have been called out

  278. as the main sins

  279. and temptations

  280. because they've become normal

  281. for them.

  282. And we see that

  283. because of the names mentioned,

  284. Balaam and Balak.

  285. These names take us back

  286. to the book of Numbers

  287. in the Old Testament

  288. where Balak,

  289. a Moabite king,

  290. called on Balaam,

  291. a prophet of the Lord,

  292. to curse the nation of Israel.

  293. And you can read this later on

  294. in Numbers chapter 22,

    Numbers 22 chapter mention

  295. 22 to 25.

  296. And Balaam,

  297. who was supposed to be

  298. a prophet of the Lord,

  299. told the king of Moab

  300. to seduce Israel

  301. into sexual immorality

  302. and idolatry.

  303. These names are used

  304. as examples of the depths

  305. of depravity

  306. of some of the people

  307. in this church.

  308. There were people

  309. who were caught up

  310. in this idolatry

  311. and sexual immorality

  312. and they were going

  313. unchallenged.

  314. But before we cast

  315. this church off,

  316. we need to come to terms

  317. with the reality

  318. that the same thing

  319. can be happening

  320. in this church today.

  321. It may look very different,

  322. but it can be true.

  323. Maybe we're not going

  324. to pagan temples

  325. and sacrificing

  326. to idols made of wood

  327. or stone.

  328. Today,

  329. that might look like

  330. us neglecting

  331. our church family

  332. on the altar of comfort.

  333. Neglecting to engage

  334. in a meaningful way

  335. in church

  336. because we're happy

  337. to go it alone.

  338. And instead,

  339. going out for walks

  340. on Sunday morning

  341. instead of tuning

  342. into church.

  343. Maybe we aren't

  344. going to temples

  345. and engaging

  346. in sexual immorality

  347. with prostitute

  348. priestesses

  349. and priests.

  350. But how many people

  351. in the church

  352. today engage

  353. in sex

  354. outside of marriage?

  355. How many people

  356. are addicted

  357. to pornography?

  358. How many people

  359. have lustful thoughts

  360. as they walk

  361. down the street

  362. and see someone else?

  363. Friends,

  364. this passage,

  365. this message

  366. is not just relevant

  367. for a church

  368. 2,000 years ago.

  369. It is a message

  370. that we need

  371. to hear today.

  372. You cannot,

  373. you cannot

  374. hold to Christ

  375. and conform

  376. to the world

  377. at the same time.

  378. Jesus and the world,

  379. sin and perfection,

  380. holiness and debauchery

  381. are not compatible.

  382. the sins

  383. that you do

  384. in private

  385. or the sins

  386. that you

  387. do in public

  388. that ensnare

  389. your life,

  390. that draw you

  391. to idolatry

  392. and sexual immorality.

  393. There's everything

  394. outside of God's plan.

  395. All of those sins

  396. are seen

  397. by the Lord

  398. and you may hide

  399. them for a while

  400. but everything

  401. will come to light

  402. one day.

  403. Jesus is the one

  404. with the two-edged sword

  405. that penetrates

  406. the heart

  407. and lays bare

  408. everything before him

  409. and he will judge.

  410. All of us

  411. will need to give

  412. an account of our lives

  413. before the Lord

  414. on the end.

  415. Nothing

  416. can be hidden

  417. from him.

  418. And our responsibility

  419. as a church

  420. is to hold each other

  421. accountable,

  422. to care for each other

  423. because the problem

  424. in Pergamum

  425. was this was going on

  426. and people knew about it

  427. and yet they did

  428. nothing about it.

  429. Friends,

  430. we need to get out

  431. of our comfort zones

  432. and start calling

  433. sin, sin.

  434. We need to go

  435. the extra mile,

  436. make ourselves

  437. uncomfortable,

  438. submit fully

  439. to Christ

  440. and live in a way

  441. that pleases him

  442. through the power

  443. of his Holy Spirit.

  444. And if we fail

  445. in this regard

  446. which we will

  447. because we are

  448. sinful human beings

  449. there is comfort

  450. because that is not

  451. the end.

  452. Look at verse 16

  453. Jesus says

  454. repent.

  455. It is never

  456. too late

  457. for people

  458. to return

  459. to the Lord

  460. and ask

  461. for forgiveness

  462. and the promise

  463. that we see

  464. in Scripture

  465. is all those

  466. who come to Christ

  467. forgiveness

  468. is given.

  469. But we are called

  470. to flee sin.

  471. A Christian

  472. cannot flirt

  473. with the world

  474. and expect

  475. to remain pure.

  476. We must

  477. Usain Bolt

  478. it in the other

  479. direction.

  480. And Jesus

  481. tells us this

  482. not because

  483. he is a killjoy

  484. but because

  485. he loves us

  486. and because

  487. he knows

  488. the situations

  489. that we are in

  490. he knows

  491. we are weak

  492. and he knows

  493. that we cannot

  494. expect to dabble

  495. in sin

  496. to flirt

  497. with the world

  498. and not

  499. sin.

  500. And if

  501. this morning

  502. you are trying

  503. to hold

  504. on to the

  505. world

  506. and at the

  507. same time

  508. hold on

  509. to Christ

  510. listen to

  511. those words

  512. in verse 16

  513. repent

  514. therefore

  515. otherwise

  516. I will soon

  517. come to you

  518. and will fight

  519. against them

  520. with the sword

  521. of my mouth.

  522. Now this is

  523. sobering language

  524. that should wake

  525. us all up

  526. this morning.

  527. If you are

  528. living in sin

  529. whether privately

  530. or publicly

  531. and at the

  532. same time

  533. trying to

  534. confess Christ

  535. Jesus says

  536. that he will

  537. come

  538. and he will

  539. fight against

  540. you.

  541. It's also

  542. a wake up

  543. call for all

  544. of us

  545. brothers and

  546. sisters in

  547. the body

  548. of Christ

  549. to look out

  550. for each

  551. other

  552. because we

  553. should see

  554. this and

  555. not want

  556. anyone to

  557. fall into

  558. that judgment.

  559. We have a

  560. responsibility

  561. to care for

  562. people and

  563. to do it

  564. wisely.

  565. Friends

  566. wake up

  567. wake up

  568. from your

  569. slumber

  570. and your

  571. sin and

  572. return to

  573. Christ.

  574. Reject

  575. the fleeting

  576. comforts of

  577. this world

  578. because they're

  579. meaningless.

  580. They are

  581. short-lived

  582. and they will

  583. only leave you

  584. empty and

  585. hurting and

  586. under the

  587. judgment of

  588. Christ because

  589. you cannot

  590. have Jesus

  591. and the

  592. world.

  593. But the

  594. Bible isn't

  595. naive.

  596. Living like

  597. this is

  598. difficult.

  599. But the

  600. reality, this

  601. is the reality

  602. of the

  603. Christian life

  604. because it

  605. means dying

  606. to ourselves

  607. and living

  608. for Christ,

  609. forsaking all

  610. else but

  611. him.

  612. And that's

  613. precisely why

  614. Jesus goes

  615. on to explain

  616. the result of

  617. those who

  618. do renounce

  619. the world

  620. and live

  621. for him

  622. in verse

  623. 17.

  624. To the

  625. one who

  626. is victorious,

  627. I will give

  628. some of the

  629. hidden manna.

  630. I will also

  631. give that

  632. person a

  633. white stone

  634. with a new

  635. name written

  636. on it,

  637. known only

  638. to the one

  639. who receives

  640. it.

  641. Do you see

  642. that victory

  643. language?

  644. Jesus knows

  645. that living

  646. this way is

  647. a battle.

  648. It is a

  649. fight, a

  650. spiritual war

  651. that is won

  652. by patient

  653. obedience and

  654. responsiveness to

  655. God's word.

  656. And

  657. persevering to

  658. the end,

  659. overcoming sin,

  660. clinging to

  661. Christ will

  662. result in a

  663. wonderful

  664. inheritance.

  665. And Jesus

  666. highlights two

  667. rewards that

  668. await those who

  669. fight the good

  670. fight and

  671. continue to the

  672. end.

  673. So this

  674. morning, if you

  675. are in this

  676. spiritual battle,

  677. if you are

  678. feeling beaten

  679. and you want

  680. to throw in

  681. the towel,

  682. if you're

  683. struggling in

  684. your holiness

  685. and finding it

  686. hard to focus

  687. on Christ,

  688. here is what

  689. Jesus says

  690. awaits for those

  691. who are

  692. victorious,

  693. who overcome

  694. the sins of

  695. conformity and

  696. tolerating sin

  697. in our lives.

  698. Jesus promises

  699. first that he

  700. will give hidden

  701. manna to his

  702. people.

  703. As God's

  704. people, we're

  705. in the wilderness

  706. in the book

  707. of Exodus.

  708. The Lord

  709. provided them

  710. with manna,

  711. a type of

  712. food that

  713. sustained them

  714. in the wandering

  715. in the wilderness.

  716. The point that

  717. Jesus is making

  718. here to this

  719. church is that

  720. he will sustain

  721. and provide for

  722. them in this

  723. tension between

  724. the kingdom of

  725. God not yet

  726. being complete

  727. and the

  728. suffering that

  729. they face.

  730. Friends, this

  731. means that as

  732. you battle

  733. against your

  734. flesh and

  735. blood, to

  736. live for

  737. Jesus, as

  738. you release

  739. your grip on

  740. the world and

  741. you cling fully

  742. to Christ, he

  743. will sustain

  744. you.

  745. That's what he

  746. promises.

  747. He will give

  748. you the strength

  749. that you need

  750. by the Holy

  751. Spirit to

  752. persevere until

  753. the end.

  754. But it is

  755. hidden.

  756. You will not

  757. see it.

  758. You may not

  759. even feel it all

  760. the time.

  761. But Jesus

  762. promises to

  763. provide for

  764. and sustain

  765. you in your

  766. present suffering

  767. until that day

  768. that his

  769. kingdom comes

  770. in all of

  771. his glorious

  772. fullness.

  773. And then the

  774. second reward

  775. that Jesus

  776. offers in

  777. verse 17

  778. is a white

  779. stone with

  780. a new name

  781. written on it

  782. known only to

  783. the one who

  784. receives it.

  785. Now there

  786. are a number

  787. of ideas what

  788. these white

  789. stones could mean

  790. but I think the

  791. most convincing

  792. is that stones

  793. were used for

  794. voting.

  795. So a black

  796. stone was a

  797. negative vote

  798. and a white

  799. stone was a

  800. positive vote.

  801. So if someone

  802. was tried in a

  803. court of law

  804. they were given

  805. a white stone

  806. if proven

  807. innocent once

  808. the trial was

  809. over.

  810. And so Jesus

  811. is saying that

  812. on that final

  813. day he will

  814. give those who

  815. remain faithful

  816. to him a

  817. white stone.

  818. A sign of

  819. their complete

  820. innocence through

  821. his death

  822. and resurrection

  823. and their

  824. perseverance to

  825. the end and

  826. he will give

  827. them a new

  828. name.

  829. This fulfills a

  830. prophecy in

  831. Isaiah 62

    Isaiah 62:5

  832. verse 5.

  833. Please do look

  834. at it later.

  835. That those who

  836. remain faithful

  837. to the Lord

  838. in Israel will

  839. be given a

  840. new name.

  841. As a

  842. Christian your

  843. identity has

  844. changed.

  845. And if you

  846. live that out

  847. until the end,

  848. if you wage

  849. war well

  850. and persevere

  851. you will be

  852. given a new

  853. name by your

  854. Lord and

  855. Saviour in

  856. the end.

  857. This short

  858. letter to the

  859. church in

  860. Pergamon is

  861. bookended by

  862. the comforting

  863. truth and

  864. challenging

  865. truth that

  866. Jesus knows

  867. everything about

  868. each and every

  869. one of us.

  870. Jesus knows

  871. where you live.

  872. He knows that

  873. you are

  874. surrounded by

  875. temptation.

  876. He knows

  877. that you get

  878. invitations all

  879. the time to

  880. go to the

  881. wrong places,

  882. to hang out

  883. with the

  884. wrong crowds,

  885. and he knows

  886. that it's so

  887. easy to

  888. accept.

  889. He knows

  890. you're surrounded

  891. by things that

  892. draw you to

  893. sin all the

  894. time, but he

  895. calls you to

  896. persevere and

  897. to stand firm

  898. in him.

  899. Think back to

  900. the test

  901. subjects, sitting

  902. in the

  903. doctor's

  904. waiting room

  905. and acting

  906. like everybody

  907. else.

  908. The reality

  909. is that as

  910. Christians we

  911. can so easily

  912. be caught up

  913. to do the

  914. same as the

  915. world and

  916. to conform to

  917. the sinful

  918. patterns that

  919. go on around

  920. us every day.

  921. But Jesus

  922. tells us that

  923. he knows all

  924. things.

  925. He knows our

  926. lives and he

  927. says do not

  928. conform to the

  929. pattern of this

  930. world.

  931. do not

  932. think that

  933. you can hold

  934. on to Christ

  935. and the

  936. world at the

  937. same time,

  938. but instead

  939. wage war

  940. against sin.

  941. Wage war

  942. against wrong

  943. theology and

  944. cling to Christ

  945. alone.

  946. Because

  947. persevering to

  948. the end,

  949. running the

  950. race until

  951. the finish

  952. line means

  953. that we will

  954. dwell with

  955. him forever

  956. in perfect

  957. harmony.

  958. And he

  959. promises to

  960. sustain you

  961. until that

  962. day that

  963. we hear those

  964. life-giving

  965. words,

  966. well done,

  967. well done,

  968. good and

  969. faithful servant.

  970. Let's pray

  971. together.

  972. Heavenly

  973. Father, we

  974. pray that as

  975. we read

  976. your word,

  977. by your

  978. spirit you

  979. would show

  980. us things

  981. that we

  982. are to be

  983. commended

  984. for,

  985. but also

  986. show us the

  987. reality of

  988. things that

  989. we know

  990. deep down

  991. we will be

  992. condemned

  993. for.

  994. And Lord,

  995. would that

  996. reality wake

  997. us up?

  998. Would it

  999. help us

  1000. release our

  1001. grip on the

  1002. world and

  1003. cling solely

  1004. to you?

  1005. Father,

  1006. forgive us.

  1007. Father, we

  1008. thank you for

  1009. that comforting

  1010. truth that for

  1011. every time we

  1012. fail and we

  1013. repent,

  1014. that your

  1015. forgiveness is

  1016. granted,

  1017. that Jesus

  1018. has paid the

  1019. price,

  1020. and that we

  1021. are forgiven

  1022. by the

  1023. precious blood

  1024. of the

  1025. Lamb.

  1026. Jesus,

  1027. thank you.

  1028. Amen.
