  1. Wonderful. Well, good morning, everyone. It's lovely to have you with us today. Thank you so much for joining in.

  2. Thank you, Archie, for leading us this far and Danny for reading that passage in Ephesians 5 for us.

  3. Let me encourage you to grab a Bible or get it on a screen on your phone or something like that and come with me to God's Word.

  4. And thank you so much, Archie, for praying for us as well as we come to this text this morning.

  5. So Ephesians chapter 5. And as we dive in today, let me tell you about a guy I once heard about during my time at university.

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  6. And it was common knowledge, apparently, that the girls in his class had a nickname for him.

  7. OK, ready for this? They had a nickname for him. They called him the Untouchable, which probably when you say like that sounds a bit harsh.

  8. But stick with me. Here's why they called him the Untouchable.

  9. So where they were kind of joking around in class, as they were mucking around down the pub,

  10. when they were out and about doing their usual thing in the clubs in town,

  11. when they were interested in scoring with the boys,

  12. oh, this guy was there. This guy was a laugh. This guy was their friend.

  13. And though they would have loved for him to have joined in,

  14. it became so crystal clear because this guy was a follower of Jesus.

  15. That he just wasn't up for playing ball.

  16. Right? So they called him the Untouchable.

  17. Question for you. Why would somebody choose to live differently?

  18. Why would somebody choose not to get involved?

  19. Who would choose to be the kind of person that I always call in my mind,

  20. I call a walking question mark?

  21. Right? You ever met somebody like that where you kind of watch them in action and you try and figure out what makes them tick

  22. and you conclude to yourself, I just can't figure them out?

  23. Walking question mark.

  24. Yeah, thing is, Ephesus,

  25. this letter written to the Ephesian Christians,

  26. Ephesus, I'm sure, is full

  27. of walking question marks.

  28. Come with me, picture this scene.

  29. Right? Imagine Chris the Christian.

  30. Right? You got him in your head?

  31. Chris the Christian.

  32. Right? One morning,

  33. there's a knock at his door.

  34. And it's his friends.

  35. Chris, mate, how you doing?

  36. How you doing?

  37. Listen, we're off into town.

  38. Just taking a wee stroll.

  39. You coming?

  40. You know, plan is,

  41. we'll take a stroll.

  42. We'll see some friends.

  43. We'll take a trip to the temple of Artemis.

  44. We'll wander about,

  45. maybe make some money,

  46. maybe even pick up a girl at the temple

  47. and we'll get up to some mischief.

  48. I mean, come on, bro.

  49. You love this stuff.

  50. Grab your coat.

  51. Grab your coat.

  52. I'm all waiting.

  53. Make a day of it.

  54. And Chris replies,

  55. Guys,

  56. no thanks.

  57. That just

  58. isn't really me anymore.

  59. And his mates

  60. look at each other bemused.

  61. Right?

  62. What's getting him?

  63. What's happening to crazy Chris?

  64. Remember this guy that used to live for this stuff?

  65. What's happened?

  66. Question,

  67. what explains

  68. 21st century uni guy

  69. and

  70. 1st century Chris?

  71. Right?

  72. What explains it?

  73. Well, here's what I love.

  74. Question mark.

  75. Ephesians chapter 5

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  76. gives us

  77. an exclamation mark.

  78. Right?

  79. Here's why I love this passage.

  80. This passage explains

  81. why you would choose to do that.

  82. Okay?

  83. Ephesians 5 explains it.

  84. Come with me to verse chapter 1.

  85. Here is the central idea

  86. of this passage.

  87. Paul

  88. says to these believers,

  89. he says,

  90. be imitators of God.

  91. Right?

  92. Friends,

  93. get that in your

  94. lungs.

  95. Right?

  96. Be imitators

  97. of God.

  98. And here's,

  99. I think,

  100. the logic

  101. of what he's trying to get them to see

  102. at verse 1.

  103. Okay,

  104. you ever notice that

  105. you kind of pick up things

  106. from your parents?

  107. You ever notice that in your life?

  108. Right?

  109. I remember the first time

  110. somebody said to me,

  111. they said,

  112. see when you get excited,

  113. have you ever noticed,

  114. have you ever stopped to think

  115. about why

  116. you rub your hands together?

  117. Right?

  118. What's that all about?

  119. Do you know what?

  120. Never occurred to me before.

  121. Never occurred to me before.

  122. But do you know what?

  123. The next time I went home,

  124. watching the football one night,

  125. I hear a rub of the hands

  126. coming from the other sofa.

  127. Right?

  128. Hear the hand rub.

  129. It's my dad.

  130. And I go,

  131. oh,

  132. that's where I get

  133. the hand rub thing from.

  134. You know,

  135. those kind of things

  136. that we pick up

  137. from our parents.

  138. So when Paul says here

  139. at verse 1,

  140. he says,

  141. imitate God.

  142. Do you see what he's saying?

  143. He's saying,

  144. as God's children,

  145. right?

  146. Be like your heavenly father.

  147. Pick up his character traits.

  148. Be like him.

  149. And so it follows,

  150. if you jump on the train of thought,

  151. we'll go to where it's going.

  152. Where's the train going?

  153. That if your father is holy,

  154. that if your father is light,

  155. if your father is so far above

  156. the things of this earth,

  157. and if your father is the very essence of love,

  158. well,

  159. like father,

  160. like son.

  161. Okay?

  162. Mimic your heavenly father.

  163. Reflect your heavenly father.

  164. You want to know what that looks like?

  165. Have a look at the son.

  166. Have a look at the Christ who came and showed us perfectly the father.

  167. Right?

  168. It means when we're looking at Jesus in action in the gospels,

  169. we are gazing deep into the very heart of God.

  170. There's no inconsistency between the two.

  171. Jesus Christ who gave himself up for us.

  172. Do you see the language there?

  173. Fragrant offering.

  174. The sacrifice.

  175. It's Leviticus language.

  176. Christ,

  177. the perfect offering for our sin.

  178. Pleasing in God's sight.

  179. What does that mean?

  180. It means that we are right with our God.

  181. We are known by our creator.

  182. His spirit dwells within us.

  183. It means that we are his new people of light.

  184. We are his children of light.

  185. And so Paul says,

  186. imitate your heavenly father.

  187. Be holy as he is holy.

  188. Right?

  189. Imitate him in the marketplace.

  190. Imitate him as you spend time with your mates.

  191. Imitate him as you play your sport.

  192. Imitate him as you do business.

  193. Imitate him.

  194. Do you see,

  195. Paul is no advocate of come out and hide.

  196. This is staying and shine.

  197. Staying and shine.

  198. Christ,

  199. and I take it that's what's going on in verse 14,

  200. as Christ shines on us.

  201. Staying and shine.

  202. I mean,

  203. how good was that moon last night?

  204. Do you see it?

  205. People texting me,

  206. look at the moon,

  207. look at the moon.

  208. It never happens.

  209. But how good was that moon last night?

  210. Really simple question.

  211. Do you know why the moon is bright?

  212. Right?

  213. Kind of primary school question,

  214. really,

  215. but go with me.

  216. Do you know why the moon is bright?

  217. Because the sun shines in it.

  218. Okay?

  219. And I like to play this game

  220. in the darkness,

  221. right?

  222. There it is.

  223. I like to play this game.

  224. There is the moon going,

  225. wow.

  226. Right?

  227. Hey,

  228. hey,

  229. don't look at me.

  230. Don't look at me.

  231. I'm just rock dust and craters.

  232. Don't look at me.

  233. Look at the sun.

  234. Look at the one who is shining on me.

  235. Look how great he is.

  236. He's lit me up.

  237. How great is the sun?

  238. I'm already reflecting about three to 12% of his light.

  239. I Googled it,

  240. right?

  241. How great is the sun?

  242. Paul says,

  243. shine for Christ.

  244. Imitate him as Christ shines on you,

  245. right?

  246. Be walking question marks in your city of Ephesus.

  247. And what's that going to look like?

  248. Well,

  249. let's move,

  250. if you like,

  251. from the general principle to the specific application.

  252. Because Paul puts his finger on one area in particular,

  253. where to imitate God will mean,

  254. boy,

  255. these Ephesians are going to stand out like a sore thumb.

  256. Right?

  257. And it's this whole area of how they conduct themselves sexually.

  258. Okay?

  259. Ephesus,

  260. this is a highly sexualized culture.

  261. Right?

  262. What was that?

  263. What's that song from the 90s that Salt-N-Pepa sang?

  264. Right?

  265. Let's talk about sex.

  266. It was one of the anthems of the 90s,

  267. right?

  268. Lyrics.

  269. Now we talk about sex on the radio and video shows.

  270. Many will know that anything goes.

  271. Right?

  272. They loved that song in Ephesus in the first century.

  273. Loved it.

  274. Right?

  275. Virgin women at the temple helping you worship.

  276. They're offering you a sacred sexual encounter.

  277. A culture where you're encouraged to kind of just let your desires go.

  278. And the more you do that,

  279. the more that you're living.

  280. And these Christians are caught up right in the middle of that.

  281. Okay?

  282. In a previous life,

  283. they saw no issue with this.

  284. They said,

  285. what's the problem?

  286. Bring it on.

  287. But do you see how Paul writes at verse 8?

  288. He says,

  289. you were once darkness.

  290. Right?

  291. That was you.

  292. You were there.

  293. No spiritual lights on in your life.

  294. This used to be you.

  295. But now,

  296. verse 8,

  297. you are light in the Lord.

  298. God has switched the spiritual lights on in your life.

  299. And Christ has shined.

  300. He's shining on you.

  301. So to be an imitator of God in Ephesus,

  302. to be a walking question mark,

  303. what is that going to mean?

  304. Specifically in this highly sexualized culture,

  305. I just want us to see two things.

  306. Okay?

  307. Firstly,

  308. it's going to mean them saying no to the darkness.

  309. No to the darkness.

  310. Right?

  311. In terms of their walk and in terms of their talk.

  312. So see verse 3,

  313. the things that he specifically mentions.

  314. Right?

  315. When it comes to their walk.

  316. And I assume that these things are all connected.

  317. Back to our central theme.

  318. Sexual immorality,

  319. impurity,

  320. covetousness.

  321. And then when it comes to their talk,

  322. do you see verse 4?

  323. No filthiness,

  324. no foolish talk,

  325. no crude joking.

  326. And I take it that these are telltale signs

  327. that the people who are living in these things

  328. have refused God's reign,

  329. are living in darkness,

  330. and are deserving of God's wrath.

  331. Paul said they've got no place

  332. amongst God's holy people.

  333. And so do you see how radically different

  334. these Christians will be

  335. simply by using the word no.

  336. not because they've moved out of Ephesus,

  337. but because God's spirit has moved into them.

  338. They're going to be walking question marks

  339. in their city.

  340. And so the question becomes,

  341. what will it mean to be a walking question mark

  342. in our city

  343. in terms of our walk and our talk?

  344. And really,

  345. it's not going to look any different,

  346. is it?

  347. I mean,

  348. to believe in the goodness

  349. of God's design for sex,

  350. that this is a good gift from Him,

  351. that He's designed to be enjoyed

  352. in the context of a marriage

  353. between one man and one woman.

  354. And I take it that that term,

  355. sexual immorality,

  356. in the Greek there,

  357. it's almost a catch-all term

  358. for everything that goes on

  359. outside of that framework,

  360. God's good design.

  361. And for us to not just simply

  362. reluctantly go with that design,

  363. but love that design and affirm it.

  364. Flowing from a heart that says,

  365. do you know what,

  366. I'm going to love the people of my city.

  367. I'm going to love my neighbor

  368. who thinks differently to that.

  369. Pursuing them in the same way

  370. that Christ pursues people in the Gospels

  371. and telling them about Jesus.

  372. And all the while,

  373. I'm going to abide by God's blueprint for sex.

  374. No matter how difficult it is,

  375. no matter what it costs me,

  376. because I know the God whose word this is,

  377. I know who He is,

  378. I know that He is my good Father,

  379. and I love Him,

  380. and I trust Him with my life.

  381. How different are you going to look

  382. if you believe that

  383. and live that out?

  384. Which, to be clear, we do.

  385. Walking question marks in our city.

  386. Let me just ask you as we think about this.

  387. Friends, when was the last time

  388. you said no to something

  389. because you wanted to imitate

  390. your Heavenly Father?

  391. Right?

  392. These are tough times that we're living in.

  393. I think this is even more relevant.

  394. Right?

  395. When was the last time you said no

  396. to looking at that website?

  397. Right?

  398. You said no to watching that Netflix drama

  399. that everyone's watching,

  400. that box set that everyone's binging on

  401. because it's got images

  402. that just aren't helpful for me.

  403. It's got scenes that just aren't great

  404. for me to be watching.

  405. When was the last time you said no

  406. to staying over at someone's house?

  407. You know what?

  408. Because it might be a bit more convenient,

  409. but it's just not a wise thing to do.

  410. When was the last time you said no

  411. to joining in the bad banter

  412. in the changing room?

  413. You know, I think so often

  414. our problem in this area

  415. is not that people think we're strange.

  416. Our problem is that people

  417. don't think we're strange enough.

  418. Okay, verse 7.

  419. I take it this is caught up

  420. in this language here.

  421. Paul was saying,

  422. do not be partners with them.

  423. See that God has called you

  424. to something so much more glorious

  425. and say no because you want to imitate

  426. your glorious heavenly Father.

  427. And I had the words of that old hymn

  428. by William Cowper in my head this week.

  429. To see the law by Christ fulfilled

  430. to hear his pardoning voice

  431. changes a slave into a child

  432. and changes duty into choice.

  433. Perhaps you're watching this

  434. and you've got the words

  435. of another song in your head, right?

  436. A song about Coldplay, Chris Martin.

  437. Nobody said it was easy,

  438. but no one ever said

  439. it would be this hard.

  440. And friends, I take it.

  441. I know that this is not easy.

  442. We have all made mistakes.

  443. We all have regrets.

  444. We all are broken.

  445. I know I certainly am

  446. in one way or another

  447. when we come to think about

  448. this whole area of sex.

  449. And I take it that we as a church,

  450. we long to be

  451. the kind of church family

  452. that is listening,

  453. that is supporting,

  454. that is loving,

  455. that is honest

  456. and that genuinely wants

  457. the best for one another,

  458. that's willing to go

  459. the extra mile to help.

  460. And the kind of community

  461. one that is just speaking

  462. the truth of the gospel

  463. into one another's lives

  464. like we thought about

  465. a couple of weeks ago,

  466. just helping one another,

  467. speaking the truth of love

  468. into one another's lives,

  469. reminding ourselves,

  470. each other about our Father

  471. who is all compassion

  472. and who specializes

  473. in creating trophies

  474. of his redeeming grace.

  475. It's reminding one another

  476. about Jesus,

  477. who he is,

  478. as we see him in the gospels.

  479. I love that he's never

  480. running away from people

  481. who have got sexual

  482. question marks above them.

  483. He's never standing over them,

  484. condemning them.

  485. He is moving alongside them

  486. in grace and love

  487. and reminding ourselves

  488. of the holy calling

  489. this God has made

  490. on our lives

  491. and walking with one another

  492. lovingly to the foot

  493. of the cross

  494. as the place

  495. where we will find

  496. forgiveness and life.

  497. Friends,

  498. to be a walking question mark

  499. in this whole area

  500. is going to mean us saying

  501. no to things.

  502. And flip that around

  503. if you like,

  504. that's the defense.

  505. If you flip that around

  506. in the offense here,

  507. to be a walking question mark

  508. is going to mean them saying

  509. yes to the light.

  510. Right?

  511. No to the darkness.

  512. Yes to the light.

  513. Again,

  514. in terms of their walk

  515. and in terms of their talk.

  516. Verse 10,

  517. see what he says.

  518. He says,

  519. find out what pleases the Lord.

  520. Right?

  521. Love that.

  522. Find out.

  523. Get involved.

  524. Use your initiative.

  525. Engage your brain

  526. and get in the word.

  527. Find out.

  528. Find out what pleases

  529. your heavenly Father.

  530. Invite others into your life

  531. who are going to be able

  532. to help you

  533. and lovingly come alongside you.

  534. It's kind of what happens

  535. when you fall in love,

  536. isn't it?

  537. You just find out

  538. what makes the other person happy.

  539. I want to know

  540. what makes them happy.

  541. Right?

  542. What chocolates do they like?

  543. What music are they into?

  544. What hobbies do they have?

  545. What food do they love?

  546. Where do they love to go?

  547. Paul says,

  548. find out what pleases

  549. your heavenly Father.

  550. Find out what pleases

  551. the Lord.

  552. And I do it.

  553. Right?

  554. Verse 4,

  555. come with me.

  556. No obscene talk,

  557. not foolishness,

  558. not crude jokes,

  559. but thanksgiving

  560. should be coming

  561. out of your mouths.

  562. I mean,

  563. how distinctly different,

  564. friends,

  565. if we are a community

  566. that is known

  567. for talk

  568. that is thankful.

  569. Right?

  570. I was reminded this week

  571. of the words

  572. of the late Billy Graham

  573. who said,

  574. a spirit of thankfulness

  575. is one of the most

  576. distinctive marks

  577. of a Christian

  578. whose heart

  579. is attuned

  580. to the Lord.

  581. I heard a cracking story

  582. this week

  583. from a friend Andy

  584. who was telling me

  585. about an older lady

  586. in his congregation

  587. over in Glasgow

  588. and she was telling him

  589. how she was just

  590. really getting quite down

  591. with everything

  592. that was going on

  593. just now

  594. and just finding herself

  595. slipping into

  596. an attitude

  597. of just moaning

  598. about things.

  599. So she decided

  600. to put a stop to it

  601. and try and cultivate

  602. this attitude

  603. of thanksgiving.

  604. So what she made herself

  605. do every day

  606. is to go into her kitchen

  607. and grab her tomato timer.

  608. Right?

  609. Remember those things,

  610. those tomato timers

  611. if you don't remember

  612. what it is

  613. or you're of a younger

  614. generation,

  615. get on Google,

  616. write a tomato timer.

  617. She used to take it

  618. and wind it up

  619. to two minutes

  620. and then sit it down

  621. on the kitchen table

  622. and listen to it

  623. tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick.

  624. And what she used to do

  625. was take those two minutes

  626. and deliberately list

  627. everything in her life

  628. that she was thankful

  629. to God for

  630. until the tomato timer

  631. ran out.

  632. Love that.

  633. Thanksgiving.

  634. Are we a thankful

  635. people, friends?

  636. Is this what pours forth

  637. from our mouths

  638. thanksgiving

  639. to who our God is?

  640. And then maybe

  641. think about one way

  642. that that might work out

  643. in this whole area

  644. of sexual relationships.

  645. Let me just pitch you

  646. something here.

  647. And there was a comedy film

  648. that came out

  649. a number of years ago,

  650. I think,

  651. starring Steve Carell.

  652. It was a comedy

  653. and it was called

  654. The 40-Year-Old Virgin.

  655. Right?

  656. And it was about

  657. this middle-aged man

  658. who had never had sex

  659. and the whole premise

  660. of the film

  661. was that here is a man

  662. who hasn't lived.

  663. Have pity for him.

  664. He hasn't lived.

  665. It's how the world thinks,

  666. isn't it?

  667. What the world promotes.

  668. Friends,

  669. you see how the Christian

  670. can look at something

  671. like that

  672. and declare

  673. not true.

  674. Not true.

  675. You know,

  676. in the words of

  677. Jackie Hill Perry

  678. who's written so wonderfully

  679. about her journey

  680. as a disciple of Jesus

  681. and discovering

  682. the God of the Bible

  683. in her book

  684. that's called

  685. Gay Girl,

  686. Good God,

  687. she writes,

  688. our sexuality

  689. is not our soul,

  690. marriage is not heaven

  691. and singleness

  692. is not hell.

  693. Right?

  694. The Christian can look

  695. at something like that

  696. and declare

  697. that there is

  698. a better story

  699. that defines my life.

  700. Right?

  701. I'm not defined

  702. by my relationship

  703. status on Facebook

  704. or how I look

  705. or what I've done

  706. in the past

  707. and who I've done it with

  708. or my so-called

  709. future prospects.

  710. I'm not defined

  711. by any of those things.

  712. I am defined

  713. by Jesus Christ

  714. and what God my Father

  715. says is true about me.

  716. And what has God said

  717. is true about us?

  718. Well, I think

  719. this is where we need

  720. to get back to chapter one.

  721. The more I've been

  722. preaching this through,

  723. everything's connected

  724. to the identity

  725. that Paul is out

  726. of the Christian

  727. in chapter one.

  728. Who are you, Christian?

  729. You are one

  730. who has been loved

  731. by God the Father.

  732. You are one

  733. who has been adopted

  734. into his family.

  735. You are one

  736. who has been redeemed

  737. by God the Son

  738. who gave himself

  739. for you.

  740. You are one

  741. who has been sealed

  742. by God the Spirit

  743. with a glorious,

  744. untouchable,

  745. heavenly inheritance

  746. ahead of you.

  747. That is what defines you.

  748. That is what defines you.

  749. It has to do

  750. with these other things.

  751. That is what defines you.

  752. And because of that,

  753. whatever comes our way

  754. in life,

  755. we can say

  756. that I am thankful.

  757. I am thankful to God.

  758. You know,

  759. whoever you are here

  760. watching this today,

  761. maybe you've got huge questions

  762. about this stuff,

  763. but let me just tell you,

  764. friends,

  765. there is only one person,

  766. only one person

  767. who can give us life.

  768. And life to the full

  769. is what he promises.

  770. And his name

  771. is Jesus.

  772. You see,

  773. the Christian

  774. is one

  775. who can say,

  776. whatever my lot,

  777. my heart can say,

  778. it is well

  779. with my soul.

  780. My heart can say,

  781. whatever is going on

  782. in my life,

  783. that Jesus Christ

  784. is enough.

  785. And that's where

  786. we want to be,

  787. isn't it?

  788. That's where we want to be.

  789. That is where life

  790. is to be found,

  791. that Jesus Christ

  792. is enough for me.

  793. Friends,

  794. I take it that

  795. if we try and live this way,

  796. if we are dangerously

  797. different for Christ,

  798. then naturally

  799. the light that shines

  800. from us

  801. is going to expose

  802. the darkness.

  803. I think that's what

  804. Paul's on about

  805. there at verse 13.

  806. It's kind of what happens

  807. if you change a light bulb,

  808. isn't it?

  809. Or stand next to a light bulb.

  810. Oh,

  811. just exposes you,

  812. doesn't it?

  813. I had that experience

  814. the other night,

  815. just changing a light bulb

  816. outside or flashlight.

  817. Vroomf.

  818. That's what happens,

  819. isn't it,

  820. when you're exposed

  821. by the light.

  822. Friends,

  823. that's what we're doing

  824. when we're saying

  825. no to the world's way,

  826. no to the darkness,

  827. and yes to God's way,

  828. yes to the light.

  829. And I think that should

  830. encourage us

  831. in our witness

  832. because when that happens,

  833. even the smallest step

  834. of obedience

  835. to your heavenly Father,

  836. that is the light

  837. invading the darkness

  838. as the world looks in

  839. and says,

  840. I cannot figure that out.

  841. Why would somebody

  842. choose to live that way?

  843. The light is invading

  844. the darkness.

  845. Friends,

  846. so as we close,

  847. let's come back to

  848. our two guys at the top.

  849. What explains

  850. 21st century uni guy?

  851. What explains

  852. the untouchable?

  853. And what explains

  854. first century Chris

  855. living his life

  856. as a disciple

  857. of Jesus in Ephesus?

  858. What explains that?

  859. Why would somebody

  860. choose to live

  861. differently?

  862. Why would somebody

  863. not want to get involved?

  864. Why would somebody

  865. choose

  866. to be a walking

  867. question mark?

  868. What's that all about?

  869. Answer,

  870. because they love

  871. Jesus.

  872. They love

  873. their heavenly Father

  874. and their heart's desire

  875. is that they want

  876. to imitate

  877. him.

  878. A song that we

  879. sometimes sing here

  880. and I'm reminded

  881. of this this week

  882. and let's make this

  883. our prayer

  884. as we head into

  885. this week coming.

  886. Refiner's fire.

  887. My heart's one desire

  888. is to be holy.

  889. Set apart for you,

  890. Lord.

  891. I choose to be

  892. holy.

  893. Set apart for you,

  894. my master.

  895. ready to do

  896. your will.

  897. Let's pray together.

  898. Heavenly Father,

  899. I'm so conscious,

  900. Lord,

  901. of the many

  902. questions that will

  903. come out of this

  904. passage today,

  905. of the many

  906. different experiences

  907. that we'll have,

  908. of the many

  909. different current

  910. places that we'll

  911. find ourselves in,

  912. and the many

  913. different situations

  914. that we're each

  915. trying to work out.

  916. And I pray,

  917. Father,

  918. that you would

  919. help us each

  920. today by your

  921. Spirit who lives

  922. in us.

  923. Help us

  924. remember the

  925. gospel.

  926. Help us remember

  927. Jesus Christ

  928. and him

  929. crucified.

  930. And a gospel

  931. that is the power

  932. of God unto

  933. salvation.

  934. And it's the power

  935. for us to

  936. change.

  937. So,

  938. Father,

  939. help us today.

  940. Thank you that you

  941. are the God of all

  942. comfort.

  943. And I pray,

  944. Father,

  945. that as your

  946. word goes forth

  947. today,

  948. that your Spirit

  949. would both

  950. challenge us

  951. who need to be

  952. challenged,

  953. and would comfort

  954. us who need to

  955. be comforted.

  956. Oh,

  957. our Father,

  958. we want all the

  959. glory to be to

  960. you this week

  961. in our lives.

  962. Help us to

  963. imitate you.

  964. In Jesus' name

  965. we pray.

  966. Amen.
