  1. Good to see you all tonight. Some of you I've maybe never seen before. Some of you it's a long time since I've seen you.

  2. But it's my task to dive into the Sea of Isaiah.

  3. I'm not a regular here at Brunsfield, so I don't know what you've done so far in your seat in Isaiah.

  4. But I guess as Esther read chapter 34 and 35 tonight, you're probably glad that it's you that's not preaching.

  5. You may be glad or you may wish there wasn't me that was preaching as well if I don't do a great job on it.

  6. But this is tough for us. We need to work our way through.

  7. Let me say what my goal tonight is. My goal tonight is to walk you through the passage, the two passages that we've got tonight.

  8. I think Isaiah does give us some literary aids.

  9. One of the key things that Isaiah seems to do and the commentators suggest is that he's quite good on structure.

  10. So we'll need to say something about both the structure of the section that the verses are in as well as the chapters themselves.

  11. Isaiah is quite clear often in his themes.

  12. And I don't think we miss much tonight.

  13. We shouldn't have missed it.

  14. The theme of judgment in there is chapter 34 and blessing in chapter 35.

    Isaiah 34 chapter mention

  15. And so Isaiah gives us some good structural things.

  16. So we'll say something about that.

  17. And then we'll have a couple of very clear applications that I'm indebted to Alec Mateer for.

  18. I don't know if any of you have read his daily walk through the book of Isaiah, but it's very helpful.

  19. And he's helped me with some two very clear applications.

  20. I've also been helped by my principal at Bible College back in the 80s.

  21. Jeffrey Grogan was the principal at the Bible Training Institute in Glasgow.

  22. Some of you may know of Jeffrey.

  23. He wrote a commentary on Isaiah and he had some helpful things to say as well that I've pinched as we walk our way through it tonight.

  24. I was only given Isaiah 34 and 35.

  25. I wasn't given Matthew 11.

  26. But I'm glad you read Matthew 11 because obviously there's a reference in Isaiah 35 that was read where Jesus said, go back.

  27. This is Matthew 11, 4.

  28. Jesus replied, go back, report to John what you see and hear.

  29. The blind will receive their sight.

  30. The lame will walk.

  31. Those who have leprosy are cured.

  32. The deaf will hear and the dead are raised.

  33. And the good news is preached to the poor.

  34. I think Allerysus once wrote, Jesus is God's righteousness revealed.

  35. The answer to the judgment problem of Isaiah 34 is Jesus.

  36. And the one who gives the blessing that will be ours who are saved people in future glory is all because of Jesus.

  37. The one who reveals God's righteousness as he lived and walked in Matthew.

  38. As Matthew records in Matthew 11.

  39. Let me pray and then let's work our way through Isaiah 34 and 35.

  40. Lord, thank you for your word read to us and open before us.

  41. We pray, Lord, that you would just help us as we make our way through this tonight and as we seek to apply your word.

  42. We thank you, Lord, that your word is your word and it has power to work in our hearts and minds this evening.

  43. And so, Lord, help us as we turn to it now.

  44. In Jesus' name.

  45. Amen.

  46. So if you have Isaiah 34 and Isaiah 35 open, let's go to the first thing.

  47. Isaiah's literary structure helps us, I think.

  48. So I want to just say something briefly about the structure of this part of the book, chapter 28 to chapter 37.

  49. And I want to say something especially about the structure of verses of chapter 34 and 35.

  50. And so first of all, about this big section, chapter 28 to chapter 37.

  51. You see at the beginning of chapter 33, woe to you.

  52. That is the beginning of the sixth woe or the sixth summons that Isaiah gives from chapter 28 through in this section to chapter 37.

  53. And so we're in the section of the sixth woe.

  54. So it's divided up into two lots of woes, the first three and the second three.

  55. And so we're obviously at the last of the second three.

  56. What's really interesting about these woes and particularly the latter three is that Isaiah Earth's roots in reality,

  57. something that the people really knew was going on.

  58. The first three woes were almost just talking in general terms.

  59. But when we get to these last three, he focuses on the nation of Assyria that is there and then going to attack Judah.

  60. He focuses on Egypt and the alliance that Judah want to have with Egypt.

  61. And he, if you like, their interim fulfillments.

  62. He says, look, what I'm talking about in general terms, you can actually see what out before you earthed, rooted.

  63. In other words, I will do to Assyria what I say I'll do.

  64. And I will do to Egypt what I say I'll do.

  65. And I will do to you, Zion, Judah, what I've said I will do.

  66. Somebody put it this way, that Isaiah chooses to use historical narrative as a rock of certainty.

  67. And I think the best way that I can put that for you tonight in application terms is to think that what Isaiah wants to do here by rooting what he's saying in the reality of the real situation that the Israelites, those in Judah, were facing as they faced Assyria and as they had alliance with Egypt to try and get rescued,

  68. was that God was saying, listen, you cannot rest in the armies of people.

  69. And you cannot rest in your own wisdom.

  70. If you do, you'll fall flat on your face.

  71. And actually, when we read God's word when it's hard sometimes, having interim fulfillments or having this rock of certainty that this word is true is really important for our lives.

  72. What Isaiah does here is to use this technique to fully assure us that what God plans to do, he is able to do because he's working out before them.

  73. Or if you like, what he said he will do can be trusted.

  74. And so for you and I tonight, although we hope that as the Lord sees the earthly reality of our lives, hopefully we're not like the Assyrians.

  75. Hopefully we're not like the Egyptians.

  76. And hopefully we're not actually like the Israelites.

  77. Hopefully we're like those who are not ready to trust in the armies and political systems or in our own wisdom.

  78. But they'll be ready to trust in his wisdom and in his strength and in his power.

  79. And so these are three woes followed by three other woes of interim fulfillment.

  80. I won't bore you with this, but they're also paired.

  81. One and three, two and five, and three and six.

  82. And our summons in our section tonight is part of the longest summons from chapter 33, verse 1 to 35, verse 10.

  83. And actually like summons 3 that you find in chapter 29, it's actually wholly visionary and eschatological.

  84. It's not earthed.

  85. It's heaven bound.

  86. That's what we've got to see as we look at both these chapters.

  87. Heaven bound as far as future judgment is concerned and heaven bound as far as future blessing is concerned as well.

  88. Or as somebody put it this way, here we can read historical events only between the lines.

  89. But our eyes should be held throughout.

  90. Not on the near future, but on the far eschatological future.

  91. So there's a word in terms of the structure of chapter 28 to 37.

  92. And then briefly, just something on the word of structure there in chapter 34 and chapter 35.

  93. One of the things that you should note just in terms of, I guess, Isaiah preaching his sermon, as it were, from chapter 33 to chapter 35.

  94. He begins with the woe in verse 1 of chapter 33.

  95. But then he has his first proclamation, his first bit of preaching, which begins in verse 13 of chapter 33.

  96. You who are far away, hear what I've done.

  97. And you who are near, acknowledge my power.

  98. And so chapter 34 then moves in verse 1 to his second proclamation.

  99. Another, come near.

  100. And this time it's, come near you nations and listen.

  101. Pay attention you peoples.

  102. And it's his proclamation of this final overthrow of the world in all its hostility to God's rule.

  103. It's horrible.

  104. And we'll say something about that more when we come to the theme of the chapter.

  105. As far as the structure of chapter 35 is concerned, then what we get here is this,

  106. at the end of this summons, it moves from this final overthrow of the world in all its hostility to God's rule,

  107. to the glorious picture of the final exodus, so the final pilgrimage of the Lord's people

  108. to their eternal and blissful destination of Zion.

  109. So there you go.

  110. It's important to get Isaiah's structure, both of chapter 28 to 37 and 34 and 35.

  111. You might not have taken all that in.

  112. I had a number of hours and a week to think about it,

  113. but it might be worth going away, reading those chapters and thinking about that yourselves.

  114. And so the second thing I want to do is just say something that Isaiah is really clear on,

  115. his second literary tool or aid.

  116. If his first was structure, then his second is actually to be absolutely crystal clear

  117. in chapter 34 and chapter 35 exactly what they're all about.

  118. Judgment and blessing or judgment on the world.

  119. And you'll see why I've hashtagged Edom and blessing for God's people.

  120. And you'll see why I've hashtagged Israel on that as we look at it briefly.

  121. And so let's take chapter 34 in terms of its theme, first of all.

  122. Judgment on the world, hashtag Edom.

  123. Well, here is Isaiah's articulating the final overthrow of all the world

  124. in all its hostility to God's rule.

  125. And the fact that Edom comes up as the chapter goes on

  126. is a really interesting wee technique that the prophets began to use.

  127. Edom was a way in shorthand of basically saying,

  128. this is the highest form of ultimate rebellion and to God's rule.

  129. So that's how extreme it is.

  130. How extreme it is in terms of rebellion against God.

  131. That's really, really important as Isaiah moves from judging the nations

  132. to focusing in this tiny wee nation of Edom.

  133. Actually, that tiny wee nation is to highlight

  134. that that was a way the prophets helped us to see really clearly

  135. that this is radical, highlighted, magnified rebellion

  136. against the rule of God.

  137. So therefore, for God to overthrow the world

  138. in all its hostility against his rule is his right.

  139. Even although as Isaiah describes it here,

  140. it's not a pleasant scene.

  141. In fact, it's a fearful description, isn't it, in verse 3.

  142. The slain will be thrown out

  143. and their dead bodies will send up a stench

  144. and the mountains will be soaked by their blood.

  145. Fearful.

  146. It's meant to be.

  147. Driving home the point that God's wrath

  148. will lead to the death of his enemies.

  149. It's horrible, isn't it?

  150. I mean, I don't know if you just even stop at that wee phrase.

  151. The mountains will be soaked by their blood

  152. or the mountains of this world will be dissolved

  153. in the blood of those that God has slain.

  154. It's horrible.

  155. It's almost like an anathema.

  156. It's a fearful description

  157. that God is saying that he has the right

  158. to have a final overthrow of the world

  159. in all its hostility to his rule

  160. because he's God.

  161. And because, like the Edomites,

  162. there was this radical, multiplied, intense

  163. arrogance against him.

  164. You see it in verse 5.

  165. My sword has drunk its fill in the heavens.

  166. See it descends in judgment upon Edom.

  167. The sword of judgment.

  168. The sword of judgment.

  169. Has fallen in judgment on Edom

  170. and the people.

  171. They are the people that I have totally destroyed already

  172. because of their anathema,

  173. their antagonistic rebellion

  174. against God.

  175. I think Geoffrey Grogan,

  176. what does he say in his commentary here?

  177. I've got it.

  178. He says,

  179. The inhabitants of Edom

  180. were clearly under divine judgment,

  181. just like sacrificial animals.

  182. Maybe that's why there's so much blood highlighted here.

  183. Like them, the Edomites' fate was death.

  184. Yet in one way,

  185. it's hardly appropriate

  186. to liken the antagonistic Edomites

  187. to the comparatively docile domestic animals

  188. employed in sacrificial ritual.

  189. But God had the right

  190. to respond to them

  191. and the right to respond

  192. those who take the stand

  193. that the Edomites took.

  194. Verse 2, of course,

  195. raises the whole issue before us

  196. of what right does God have

  197. to have wrath and judgment?

  198. The Lord is angry with all the nations.

  199. His wrath is upon all the armies.

  200. He will totally destroy them

  201. and give them over to slaughter.

  202. What right?

  203. Geoffrey Grogan again,

  204. as he comments on the word judgment,

  205. says this.

  206. Verse 5, it says,

  207. The slaughter of Edom is,

  208. in its moral context,

  209. because of their rebellion.

  210. And he wants to say

  211. that divine vengeance here

  212. is not mingled with the malice and evil

  213. as in the case of human vengeance.

  214. But it's a quality that in God is divine

  215. and praiseworthy.

  216. And in the execution of what God does

  217. is honoured and glorified.

  218. Let me say that again

  219. because it's really important

  220. when you read a verse like verse 2

  221. and when you see what happens in verse 5

  222. and when you get the sense

  223. of these mountains being dissolved

  224. in the blood in verse 3,

  225. we have to remind ourselves

  226. that God's divine vengeance,

  227. God's wrath on all that is evil

  228. and all that is in holy rebellion to him

  229. is not mingled with the malice and evil

  230. in the case of human vengeance.

  231. It is a quality that in God

  232. is divine and praiseworthy.

  233. It's a fearful description.

  234. We meet the antagonistic Edomites

  235. and we see God in his right judgment

  236. and wrath.

  237. And actually verse 10

  238. is a really interesting verse as well

  239. in the chapter.

  240. I don't know if you saw the reiteration

  241. of the sort of complete

  242. and permanent destruction phrases.

  243. Do you see that they are

  244. from generation to generation?

  245. Forever and ever.

  246. There's a permanence about the whole thing.

  247. Look at it, verse 10.

  248. It will not be quenched day and night.

  249. It is from generation to generation.

  250. It will never happen.

  251. It will ever pass through again and again.

  252. There's this sense of ongoing,

  253. permanent, complete destruction.

  254. It's horrible, isn't it?

  255. But Isaiah doesn't want us to miss it.

  256. Equally, Isaiah doesn't want us

  257. to miss chapter 35.

  258. The joy of the redeemed,

  259. as the NIV puts it.

  260. Or the eternal blessings

  261. for God's people.

  262. Hashtag Israel.

  263. There's a blessing.

  264. There's a new exodus for them.

  265. They had been through the wilderness.

  266. They had been through

  267. leaving Egypt,

  268. through the wilderness

  269. for all those years.

  270. They had faced dry and broken

  271. and barren lands

  272. that seemed to be referred to again here

  273. in chapter 35.

  274. You probably spotted it

  275. with the idea of streams in the desert

  276. and bubbling springs

  277. and desert lands.

  278. But let me say something briefly

  279. about this sixth summons

  280. of this glorious picture

  281. of God's final exodus

  282. and pilgrimage for the Lord's people.

  283. The eternal, blissful destination of Zion.

  284. The summons began in chapter 33

  285. by a message directly to Zion

  286. and their king.

  287. That's what you get

  288. at the end of chapter 33.

  289. And then it's contrasted

  290. towards the end of chapter 33

  291. and into 34

  292. with the eternal destiny

  293. of the saved and the unsaved.

  294. And then it seems to,

  295. in chapter 35,

  296. bring itself back to where it began

  297. with a pilgrim people.

  298. You see them referred to as them

  299. in verses 1 to 8.

  300. You see them referred to as they

  301. in verses 2 and 10.

  302. You see them defined gloriously

  303. in verses 9 and 10

  304. as the redeemed and the ransomed.

  305. And one commentator says,

  306. we met the redeemed

  307. and the ransomed before

  308. in chapter 24.

  309. And in this matching third summons

  310. in chapter 29,

  311. here it only contained

  312. an understated reference

  313. to redemption.

  314. But here at the end

  315. of chapter 35,

  316. we read the story in full.

  317. A protected path,

  318. an assured arrival,

  319. a safe homecoming,

  320. and unbroken happiness.

  321. Isaiah doesn't want us to miss it.

  322. God's just judgment

  323. on a rebellious world.

  324. And God's incredible blessing

  325. for those who are his people.

  326. Well done.

  327. That was heavy, wasn't it?

  328. You think it's heavy to listen to?

  329. It's heavy to preach.

  330. But here are two applications

  331. that Alec Mateer,

  332. I think, has helped me with

  333. as we bring these two chapters

  334. into a conclusion tonight.

  335. And the first from his book,

  336. Isaiah by Day,

  337. is this thought,

  338. serious passages about divine wrath

  339. and judgment are hard to take.

  340. And this is one of them.

  341. But then listen to what he says.

  342. They're hard to take.

  343. Isaiah doesn't try to spare our feelings.

  344. And we are for the most part,

  345. we for the most part,

  346. don't feel as he did.

  347. If you read Isaiah chapter 21

    Isaiah 21 chapter mention

  348. in verse 4,

  349. as Isaiah gets the sense

  350. of all this that's going on him,

  351. the way the NIV puts it is,

  352. he said his heart staggered

  353. and the horror appalled him.

  354. Mateer says,

  355. I wonder,

  356. are our hearts broken

  357. for our lostness

  358. and the lostness of people?

  359. Especially those who feel

  360. the blow

  361. of the divine hand.

  362. He says,

  363. it will come.

  364. He says,

  365. for the wages of sin is death

  366. and death it will be.

  367. The outpouring of divine exasperation

  368. was once divine patience,

  369. but now has reached its terminus.

  370. Isaiah's picture

  371. of the mountains eroded

  372. by the colossal flow

  373. of blood of the slain,

  374. as we see,

  375. is only a picture,

  376. but it will be matched

  377. by the reality

  378. when that sad day comes.

  379. Mateer says,

  380. praise God,

  381. that the company of the saved

  382. will be innumerable,

  383. but that does not take away

  384. from the multitudes

  385. who stand unready,

  386. unfit,

  387. hopeless

  388. in the valley

  389. of that eternal decision.

  390. He then goes on to say,

  391. Jesus didn't hide his face

  392. or ours from it

  393. in Matthew 25

  394. and 46.

  395. Nor did John make

  396. any attempts

  397. to camouflage

  398. the grim

  399. procession

  400. to the lake of fire

  401. in Revelation 20.

  402. And then he says this,

  403. and these are people

  404. we know,

  405. sometimes people

  406. we love,

  407. always people

  408. for whom we have

  409. a responsibility

  410. in the gospel.

  411. And then he says,

  412. today is the day

  413. to ponder these things,

  414. but it's also the day

  415. in the light

  416. of God's word

  417. to look at ourselves,

  418. to determine

  419. to flee from sin,

  420. for though in Christ

  421. the wrath

  422. of the sin-hating God

  423. with me

  424. can do nothing.

  425. Our eternity

  426. is as secure

  427. as if we were already

  428. on

  429. before the throne.

  430. Ephesians 2.

  431. Yet,

  432. as long as

  433. he leaves us

  434. tarrying

  435. here on earth,

  436. our sin

  437. will then

  438. bring us death.

  439. Like our ancestors

  440. in Deuteronomy,

  441. we face

  442. the daily choice

  443. of life

  444. or death.

  445. To choose good

  446. and not evil.

  447. To refuse

  448. disobedience

  449. and cultivate

  450. obedience,

  451. for it is

  452. the Lord's word,

  453. his commands,

  454. which bring life,

  455. which bring progress,

  456. which bring blessing

  457. and inheritance.

  458. The Holy Spirit,

  459. he says,

  460. is given

  461. to those

  462. who will be him.

  463. Well,

  464. that's the application

  465. on judgment.

  466. He is a slightly

  467. brighter

  468. application

  469. on blessing.

  470. Mateo says this,

  471. but if the beauty

  472. of Isaiah's words

  473. and thoughts

  474. thrill us,

  475. how great

  476. is our excitement

  477. when we realize

  478. that he is

  479. actually writing

  480. about us.

  481. And here's what

  482. Mateo says.

  483. Sometimes even

  484. Isaiah

  485. excels himself.

  486. He was a

  487. master wordsmith

  488. and poet.

  489. In chapter 35,

  490. he is at his

  491. highest

  492. and best.

  493. But then,

  494. as Mateo says,

  495. but if the beauty

  496. of Isaiah's words

  497. and thoughts

  498. thrill us,

  499. how great

  500. is our excitement

  501. when we realize

  502. that he is

  503. writing

  504. about us.

  505. We

  506. are the

  507. enigmatic

  508. thee

  509. and

  510. them.

  511. Chapter 1,

  512. verse 1,

  513. verse 2

  514. and

  515. verse

  516. 8.

  517. Let me just

  518. read it again

  519. to you,

  520. those verses.

  521. verse 1.

  522. The desert

  523. and the parched

  524. land will be

  525. glad.

  526. The wilderness

  527. will rejoice

  528. and blossom.

  529. Like the crocus,

  530. it will burst

  531. into bloom.

  532. It will rejoice

  533. and sing for joy.

  534. The glory of

  535. Lebanon will be

  536. given to it.

  537. The splendor

  538. of Carmel

  539. and Sharon.

  540. They will see

  541. the glory

  542. and splendor

  543. of God.

  544. Lebanon

  545. commentators

  546. tell us

  547. stands for

  548. natural abundance

  549. and fertility,

  550. Carmel for

  551. order,

  552. Sharon for

  553. beauty.

  554. We're told

  555. here that

  556. these things

  557. can be

  558. ours.

  559. Verse

  560. 8

  561. puts it

  562. this way,

  563. and the

  564. highway will

  565. be there.

  566. It will be

  567. called the

  568. way of

  569. holiness.

  570. The unclean

  571. will not

  572. journey on

  573. it.

  574. It will

  575. be for

  576. those who

  577. walk in

  578. that way.

  579. Wicked

  580. fools will

  581. not go

  582. there.

  583. The lion

  584. will not

  585. be there

  586. and so

  587. on and

  588. so on.

  589. And then

  590. they,

  591. verse 9,

  592. they will

  593. not be

  594. found there,

  595. but the

  596. redeemed

  597. will walk

  598. there and

  599. the ransom

  600. will turn

  601. and they

  602. will enter

  603. Zion with

  604. singing and

  605. everlasting joy

  606. will crown

  607. their heads.

  608. Gladness and

  609. joy will

  610. overtake them

  611. and sorrow

  612. and sighing

  613. will flee

  614. away.

  615. What thrill,

  616. says

  617. Mathieu,

  618. should be

  619. ours to

  620. know that

  621. we are

  622. the enigmatic

  623. they and

  624. them.

  625. The anonymous

  626. ones around

  627. whom the

  628. poem

  629. moves

  630. because we

  631. are the

  632. redeemed.

  633. We are

  634. the ransomed

  635. of verses

  636. 9 and

  637. 10.

  638. The

  639. ransomed

  640. are those

  641. whom the

  642. price has

  643. been paid

  644. for.

  645. The

  646. redeemed

  647. are those

  648. whom the

  649. Lord,

  650. the divine

  651. next of

  652. kin,

  653. identified

  654. himself,

  655. saying to

  656. us this.

  657. This is

  658. brilliant.

  659. It's not

  660. minus material.

  661. That's why

  662. it's

  663. brilliant.

  664. The

  665. redeemed

  666. and the

  667. ransomed

  668. are those

  669. who the

  670. goel,

  671. the kinsman

  672. redeemer,

  673. the Lord,

  674. the divine,

  675. your divine

  676. next of

  677. kin,

  678. has identified

  679. himself with,

  680. saying this.

  681. So,

  682. what's your

  683. problem?

  684. Give it

  685. to me.

  686. What's

  687. your need?

  688. I will

  689. meet it.

  690. What's

  691. your burden?

  692. Lay it

  693. on my

  694. shoulders.

  695. That is

  696. the way of

  697. the goel,

  698. the

  699. kingsman

  700. redeemer.

  701. He

  702. bears it

  703. all,

  704. pays it

  705. all,

  706. does it

  707. all.

  708. He is

  709. the doer.

  710. We are

  711. the

  712. recipients.

  713. But now

  714. that we

  715. know who

  716. the them

  717. and the

  718. they are,

  719. follow through

  720. what Isaiah

  721. says about

  722. them.

  723. First,

  724. whatever our

  725. circumstances

  726. appear,

  727. you see,

  728. verse 1,

  729. the desert

  730. and the

  731. parched

  732. place,

  733. we can be

  734. confident

  735. that we

  736. will be

  737. provided for.

  738. Yeah,

  739. we might

  740. need the

  741. eye of

  742. faith to

  743. see beyond

  744. what's

  745. there.

  746. but this

  747. imagery

  748. drawn from

  749. Exodus,

  750. where this

  751. menacing

  752. wilderness

  753. was

  754. habitual

  755. in

  756. hindering

  757. the

  758. Israelites

  759. until he

  760. produces

  761. the miraculous

  762. manna

  763. to feed

  764. them,

  765. produces

  766. the water

  767. from the

  768. rock

  769. to

  770. quench

  771. our

  772. thirst.

  773. And so

  774. that desert

  775. and parched

  776. place,

  777. we need to

  778. give to

  779. him,

  780. knowing that

  781. he can

  782. give us

  783. his manna

  784. and that

  785. he can

  786. quench

  787. our thirst

  788. from the

  789. rock.

  790. Every

  791. situation,

  792. every

  793. place,

  794. the glory

  795. of God

  796. is present.

  797. You see it

  798. there?

  799. The glory

  800. of God

  801. ultimately

  802. will be

  803. present as

  804. our great

  805. blessing on

  806. that day.

  807. And then

  808. look at

  809. this

  810. highway

  811. that he

  812. provides.

  813. It's this

  814. glorious picture

  815. of a road

  816. above the

  817. wilderness,

  818. so it's just

  819. higher than

  820. everything else

  821. that we walk

  822. on,

  823. and it's

  824. our great

  825. blessing.

  826. For you

  827. and I,

  828. it's possible

  829. to run a

  830. straight line,

  831. says Matia,

  832. from conversion

  833. to glory.

  834. That's why

  835. the highway

  836. exists.

  837. And

  838. finally,

  839. says Matia,

  840. the end

  841. is guaranteed.

  842. The redeemed

  843. shall come.

  844. Everything

  845. that made

  846. the journey

  847. a sad

  848. experience

  849. will take

  850. legs.

  851. Every

  852. unalloyed

  853. delight

  854. that slipped

  855. like soap

  856. out of the

  857. pilgrim's

  858. grasp

  859. will finally

  860. be possessed.

  861. For Zion

  862. admits

  863. no

  864. disappointment.

  865. It's a

  866. glorious picture,

  867. isn't it?

  868. I've done

  869. a poor

  870. unfolding

  871. of it

  872. for you.

  873. But there

  874. you go.

  875. A structure

  876. in Isaiah,

  877. the clear

  878. message of

  879. 34,

  880. the clear

  881. message of

  882. 35,

  883. a challenge

  884. to us

  885. about the

  886. blessing that

  887. can be

  888. ours and

  889. others,

  890. and the

  891. challenge for

  892. us as we

  893. daily face

  894. the thought

  895. that Isaiah

  896. 34 is

  897. true and

  898. that God

  899. has the

  900. right to

  901. judge a

  902. fallen world.

  903. We began

  904. and I'll

  905. finish with

  906. Matthew 11.

  907. Jesus is

  908. God's

  909. righteousness

  910. revealed.

  911. He is the

  912. champion to

  913. mean that we

  914. don't need to

  915. face that

  916. judgment.

  917. And he is

  918. the giver

  919. so that we

  920. can receive

  921. that blessing.

  922. That's our

  923. Jesus.

  924. I hope

  925. he's yours.

  926. Keep on

  927. trusting.

  928. Thank you.
