  1. Okay, so as Graham said, we are back in our series on 2 Peter, to know and live out the truth.

  2. Okay, and this is the second part of the series.

  3. We had a little break last week for our church weekend, our church weekender.

  4. And I want to start with a question, okay?

  5. Okay, maybe a bit of a silly question, but I ask that you indulge me.

  6. As you may know, I'm used to talking to the kids up here.

  7. I normally have them all here, and it's a lot easier.

  8. I find it a lot easier to speak to them than all you guys sitting way back there.

  9. So do you have a bucket list?

  10. Okay, and this is not a list of all the different peels that you might have,

  11. or the Scots word for bucket, meaning bin.

  12. It's probably quite useful to have a bucket list,

  13. because there are so many different bins that we have to use nowadays,

  14. and, you know, all the different times that they have to go out.

  15. But yeah, a bucket list is really a list of things that you want to do before you kick the bucket.

  16. So are there things you really want to do before you die?

  17. Okay, and I wondered if you might indulge me and give a little bit of answers here.

  18. So I looked up on the internet, you know, a list, a bucket list,

  19. and I've found 10 things that seem to be the most popular things that people want to do before they die.

  20. And I'd say this is probably, you know, it's probably more younger people,

  21. and it's probably more American, being that I found it on the internet.

  22. Okay, what do you think I might have found on this list?

  23. What do you think I might have found on this list?

  24. What are the kind of things?

  25. Bungee jumping.

  26. That is one that's right there.

  27. Yes, bungee jumping.

  28. Skydiving.

  29. Yes.

  30. Wasn't there, but yeah, that is the kind of thing.

  31. Scuba diving.

  32. Okay, not in the top 10, but I'm sure it's further down there.

  33. Other things?

  34. What do you think?

  35. Yeah, you're right.

  36. Swim with dolphins, it's up there.

  37. Not quite not.

  38. I think that's probably a bit too ambitious for most people.

  39. Yeah, there's certainly travelers on there.

  40. Yeah.

  41. Okay, let's have a quick look.

  42. Let's have a quick look.

  43. What are the...

  44. I don't know if you can read that.

  45. Okay, so yeah.

  46. Swim with dolphins.

  47. Learn a new language.

  48. See the northern lights.

  49. Bungee jump.

  50. Go on a cruise.

  51. Ride a hot air balloon.

  52. Go skydiving.

  53. Get married.

  54. Visit a volcano.

  55. See the Grand Canyon.

  56. Okay, these are the things that people want to do before they die.

  57. And I came across this story just the other day.

  58. Somebody who left it quite late to go skydiving.

  59. Okay, this was a 100-year-old lady who went skydiving.

  60. But for some reason she thought, yes, I want to do this before I die.

  61. And she did.

  62. She said she wasn't going to do it again, though.

  63. She just...

  64. I think she was fine.

  65. Yeah, but she didn't want to do it again.

  66. So yeah, there are things that people want to do before they die.

  67. Now, why am I, you know, telling you all this?

  68. It's because Peter, in verse 14 here,

  69. tells us that he knows he's going to soon die.

  70. Okay?

  71. Because I know that I will soon put it aside

  72. as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.

  73. He's talking about his life.

  74. He knows he's going to die soon.

  75. So what is he going to do?

  76. What are the things that he wants to get done before he dies?

  77. Well, writing this letter is one of the big things that he wants to do.

  78. And this letter Peter wrote is really his final statement to the church,

  79. reminding them of the truth and countering various accusations

  80. that were leveled against the apostles' teachings at the time.

  81. Okay?

  82. And I'm sure you won't be surprised that we too need these same reminders.

  83. Okay?

  84. To the very same truth that Peter was reminding his readers at the time.

  85. Okay?

  86. And the same accusations that the apostles faced then are still around today.

  87. So I wonder, if you knew you were soon going to die,

  88. what would you want to do?

  89. Or what would you want to say to people?

  90. What legacy would you want to leave?

  91. Okay?

  92. And Alistair kicked off our series, like I said, two weeks ago,

  93. looking at the first 11 verses and summed them up with this sentence.

  94. And I thought it would be right for me to remind you of this.

  95. And that's a word that you're going to hear a lot tonight.

  96. Okay, so this is how he summed up the first part of the letter.

  97. Because God has given us everything we need for a godly life,

  98. we must make every effort to live a godly life

  99. in order to confirm our calling and election.

  100. Our salvation is a gift from God.

  101. It all comes from him.

  102. And we, in return, we need to respond to God's gift of salvation

  103. and grow in his love

  104. so that we won't end up being ineffective and unproductive.

  105. This was one of the things Peter wanted to remind his readers about.

  106. Even though, as he goes on to say in verse 12,

  107. they knew this truth and they were firmly established in it.

  108. And I suspect that is the case for most of us here tonight.

  109. We know the truth of the gospel

  110. and we're probably pretty firmly established in it.

  111. But we still need to be reminded.

  112. It seems to be human nature

  113. that we so easily forget all that God has done for us.

  114. So tonight I hope that we will all be reminded

  115. of the great truth of the gospel.

  116. And in this section we're looking at this evening,

  117. I think the main reminder is

  118. that we need to remember

  119. we can trust God's word.

  120. Jesus will return in power.

  121. Remember, we can trust God's word.

  122. Jesus will return in power.

  123. Okay, we can trust God's word.

  124. We can trust God's word spoken through Jesus,

  125. through the apostles and through the prophets.

  126. And for us, that means we can trust the Bible.

  127. Peter was trusting Jesus's words in verse 14

  128. when he said that he knew he was soon going to die.

  129. Okay, if we look in John chapter 21,

    John 21 chapter mention

  130. this is what it says.

  131. This is when Jesus had appeared after his death.

  132. He'd come to Peter and he was really restoring Peter.

  133. You know, Peter had denied him three times

  134. and Jesus says to ask Peter,

  135. you know, do you love me?

  136. You know, feed my sheep.

  137. Okay, and then this is what he goes on to say.

  138. Jesus said, feed my sheep.

  139. Very truly, I tell you,

  140. when you were younger,

  141. you dressed yourself and went where you wanted.

  142. But when you are old,

  143. you will stretch out your hands

  144. and someone else will dress you

  145. and lead you where you do not want to go.

  146. Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death

  147. by which Peter would glorify God.

  148. Then he said to him, follow me.

  149. And Peter lived by Jesus's words.

  150. He trusted Jesus with his life and his death.

  151. And as his circumstances changed,

  152. he was aware his time has now come.

  153. And he wants to remind the church

  154. to keep following the truth.

  155. And he needs to deal with some of the false accusations

  156. that are going around.

  157. In verse 16, we...

  158. In verse 16, we see this first accusation

  159. that Peter deals with in his letter.

  160. So verse 16 says this,

  161. For we did not follow cleverly devised stories

  162. when we told you about the coming

  163. of our Lord Jesus Christ in power.

  164. But we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

  165. So the accusation is that Peter and the other apostles

  166. have just made all this stuff up

  167. about Jesus coming back again.

  168. It's just a cleverly devised story.

  169. But Peter is clear that it's not the case.

  170. And he lets his readers know

  171. that he and others were eyewitnesses

  172. to Jesus's majesty.

  173. And they even heard a voice from heaven

  174. confirming who Jesus was.

  175. He is, of course, referring to the transfiguration,

  176. which is recorded for us in Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

  177. So let's now remind ourselves of the transfiguration.

  178. Let's read Mark chapter 9.

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  179. You'll find this in the Pew Bibles on page 1012.

  180. So yeah, Mark chapter 9, starting at verse 2.

    Mark 9 chapter mention

  181. Page 1012 in the Pew Bibles.

  182. Okay.

  183. After six days, Jesus took Peter, James, and John with him

  184. and led them up a high mountain

  185. where they were all alone.

  186. There he was transfigured before them.

  187. His clothes became dazzling white,

  188. whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.

  189. And there appeared before them Elijah and Moses

  190. who were talking with Jesus.

  191. Peter said to Jesus,

  192. Rabbi, it is good for us to be here.

  193. Let us put up three shelters,

  194. one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.

  195. He did not know what to say.

  196. They were so frightened.

  197. Then a cloud appeared and covered them,

  198. and a voice came from the cloud.

  199. This is my son whom I love.

  200. Listen to him.

  201. Suddenly, when they looked around,

  202. they no longer saw anyone with them except Jesus.

  203. As they were coming down the mountain,

  204. Jesus gave them orders not to tell anyone

  205. what they had seen until the Son of Man

  206. had risen from the dead.

  207. They kept the matter to themselves,

  208. discussing what rising from the dead meant.

  209. So, why the transfiguration?

  210. Peter was witness to many of Jesus' miracles.

  211. He saw Jesus when he appeared again

  212. after his resurrection,

  213. and he was witness to Jesus' ascension,

  214. where he went back up to heaven.

  215. So, why out of all of these things

  216. that he could have chosen,

  217. why does he choose to reference the transfiguration?

  218. I think it's because this is the one time

  219. that Peter saw Jesus as he truly is.

  220. Jesus wasn't just a man.

  221. Jesus was also God.

  222. And Peter saw Jesus in his majestic glory,

  223. as we all will one day,

  224. whether we're trusting in him or not.

  225. For those of us who are saved

  226. through Jesus' death and resurrection,

  227. it will be a wonderful day.

  228. For those who are not,

  229. it will be a terrible day of reckoning.

  230. And last weekend,

  231. with Jonathan Lamb,

  232. it was a great reminder

  233. of how we should be living

  234. in light of Jesus' return.

  235. Okay, if you weren't there,

  236. or you haven't seen the videos yet,

  237. it's very easy to watch them

  238. on our YouTube channel,

  239. and I would recommend that you do that

  240. if you haven't seen them.

  241. It's a great reminder

  242. that Jesus is coming back,

  243. and a great reminder

  244. of how we should be living

  245. in light of that.

  246. Peter also

  247. tells us that he heard God's voice.

  248. And this is what the voice said.

  249. It said,

  250. this is my son,

  251. whom I love.

  252. With him,

  253. I am well pleased.

  254. God the Father

  255. is confirming

  256. that Jesus is his son,

  257. and that he loves him,

  258. and that he approves

  259. of what he is doing.

  260. This was a crucial time

  261. for the disciples,

  262. as Jesus had just started

  263. telling them

  264. of his coming death.

  265. And they needed the reassurance,

  266. or the reminder,

  267. that Jesus was on the right path,

  268. and they could trust him

  269. and follow him.

  270. But,

  271. why should we believe Peter

  272. when he claims these things?

  273. Well,

  274. first of all,

  275. there are three witnesses

  276. to the transfiguration.

  277. It wasn't just Peter

  278. that witnessed this.

  279. And the same goes

  280. for most of the miracles

  281. and the miraculous events

  282. in the Bible.

  283. Many different people

  284. claim to have seen Jesus alive

  285. after his death.

  286. It wasn't just Peter.

  287. And when the New Testament

  288. was written,

  289. many of these witnesses

  290. would still have been alive.

  291. This stands in stark contrast

  292. to other religions,

  293. where there will only be

  294. one witness

  295. to the supposed miracle

  296. or message from God.

  297. Take Islam, for example.

  298. Muhammad was the only one

  299. to witness the angel Gabriel

  300. speaking to him

  301. and telling him

  302. what to write in the Quran.

  303. Or Mormonism.

  304. Joseph Smith,

  305. he was the only one

  306. who was able to translate

  307. the golden plates

  308. which the Book of Mormon

  309. supposedly came from.

  310. Christianity stands apart

  311. in that it has

  312. multiple witnesses

  313. to its miraculous events.

  314. Okay, another reason

  315. that we have to trust

  316. the accounts in the Bible,

  317. particularly around the apostles,

  318. is just how unflattering

  319. the records are

  320. about them.

  321. And Peter,

  322. especially,

  323. comes off rather badly.

  324. He is the one

  325. who all too often

  326. sticks his foot in it.

  327. In his rush to be first,

  328. he often does

  329. or says the wrong thing.

  330. Even in the transfiguration,

  331. he manages

  332. to make a bit of a fool

  333. out of himself.

  334. We see that

  335. in

  336. verse 6,

  337. verse 5 and 6.

  338. You know,

  339. he blurts out this

  340. sentence,

  341. Rabbi,

  342. it is good for us

  343. to be here.

  344. Let us put up

  345. three shelters,

  346. one for you,

  347. one for Moses

  348. and one for Elijah.

  349. And then we're told

  350. why he said this.

  351. He did not know

  352. what to say

  353. because they were

  354. so frightened.

  355. Okay,

  356. does that seem to you

  357. like a cleverly

  358. devised story?

  359. Okay,

  360. it doesn't

  361. to me.

  362. And throughout

  363. the Gospels,

  364. you get the same thing

  365. with the other

  366. apostles too.

  367. They argue

  368. they often

  369. get things wrong.

  370. Okay,

  371. they often

  372. had little faith.

  373. They got scared

  374. and they ran

  375. away.

  376. Does that seem

  377. like a cleverly

  378. devised story

  379. to you?

  380. Okay,

  381. I don't think

  382. it's what we

  383. would come up with

  384. if we

  385. wanted to be

  386. the new leaders

  387. of a new

  388. movement.

  389. Surely you would

  390. want to make

  391. yourself out

  392. to be better

  393. than you really

  394. are.

  395. You would

  396. want to look

  397. like the kind

  398. of leader

  399. worth following

  400. so you could

  401. take over the

  402. mantle

  403. from your leader

  404. who is gone.

  405. But I guess

  406. it is

  407. possible

  408. that the

  409. apostles could

  410. have all

  411. gotten together

  412. and fabricated

  413. a story

  414. about their

  415. leader coming

  416. back to life

  417. just so they

  418. could keep

  419. his following

  420. going

  421. and even

  422. said that he

  423. was going

  424. to come

  425. back again.

  426. It's possible

  427. but I think

  428. there is good

  429. reason to

  430. doubt that

  431. that could

  432. have happened.

  433. There's a

  434. famous quote

  435. about the

  436. authenticity

  437. of the

  438. resurrection.

  439. And I've

  440. been aware

  441. of this quote

  442. for quite

  443. some time

  444. but it's

  445. only very

  446. recently

  447. that I

  448. learned about

  449. the man

  450. who said

  451. it.

  452. it's about

  453. Watergate

  454. which is the

  455. original scandal

  456. that had

  457. this word

  458. gate in it

  459. that has

  460. given birth

  461. to all sorts

  462. of scandals

  463. over the

  464. years.

  465. Just recently

  466. we've had

  467. Partygate

  468. that's been

  469. in the headlines

  470. a lot

  471. and now all

  472. of a sudden

  473. I'm seeing

  474. Beergate

  475. seems to be

  476. the latest

  477. scandal.

  478. I wonder

  479. does anyone

  480. know

  481. when the

  482. original

  483. Watergate

  484. happened?

  485. Anyone

  486. remember it?

  487. Know when

  488. it happened?

  489. Very close

  490. 72.

  491. So it's

  492. 50 years

  493. this year.

  494. 50 years

  495. next month

  496. that the

  497. original

  498. Watergate

  499. scandal

  500. happened

  501. and for

  502. anyone who

  503. doesn't

  504. know

  505. Watergate

  506. is the

  507. name

  508. of the

  509. building

  510. that was

  511. broken into

  512. by people

  513. acting on

  514. behalf of

  515. the then

  516. President

  517. of the

  518. United

  519. States

  520. of

  521. America

  522. Richard

  523. Nixon.

  524. And they

  525. broke in

  526. there so

  527. they could

  528. spy on

  529. his political

  530. rivals

  531. the

  532. Democrats

  533. and there

  534. was a

  535. massive

  536. cover-up

  537. and it

  538. all got

  539. way out

  540. of hand.

  541. And here

  542. is the

  543. quote.

  544. I know

  545. the resurrection

  546. is a

  547. fact

  548. and

  549. Watergate

  550. proved it

  551. to me.

  552. How?

  553. Because

  554. 12 men

  555. testified

  556. they had

  557. seen Jesus

  558. raised from

  559. the dead.

  560. dead.

  561. Then they

  562. proclaimed

  563. that truth

  564. for 40

  565. years,

  566. never once

  567. denying it.

  568. Everyone

  569. was beaten,

  570. tortured,

  571. stoned,

  572. and put

  573. in prison.

  574. They would

  575. not have

  576. endured that

  577. if it

  578. weren't

  579. true.

  580. Watergate

  581. embroiled

  582. 12 of the

  583. most powerful

  584. men in the

  585. world and

  586. they couldn't

  587. keep a lie

  588. for three

  589. weeks.

  590. You're

  591. telling me

  592. 12 apostles

  593. could keep

  594. alive for

  595. 40 years?

  596. Absolutely

  597. impossible.

  598. Now this

  599. quote isn't

  600. just from

  601. someone looking

  602. on at

  603. Watergate,

  604. at the

  605. Watergate

  606. scandal,

  607. and coming

  608. to this

  609. conclusion,

  610. but rather

  611. it was from

  612. someone deeply

  613. involved,

  614. this guy,

  615. Charles

  616. Coulson.

  617. He was

  618. an American

  619. attorney and

  620. political

  621. advisor who

  622. served a

  623. special

  624. counsel

  625. to

  626. President

  627. Richard

  628. Nixon

  629. from

  630. 1969

  631. to

  632. 1970.

  633. He was

  634. once known

  635. as Richard

  636. Nixon's

  637. Hatchet

  638. Man.

  639. He gained

  640. notoriety at

  641. the height of

  642. the Watergate

  643. scandal for

  644. being named

  645. as one of

  646. the Watergate

  647. Seven and

  648. also for

  649. pleading guilty

  650. to obstruction

  651. of justice.

  652. And in

  653. 1974 he

  654. served seven

  655. months in

  656. prison for

  657. this obstruction

  658. of justice.

  659. however,

  660. in 1973

  661. he became

  662. a Christian

  663. and his

  664. midlife

  665. conversion

  666. sparked a

  667. radical life

  668. change that

  669. led to the

  670. founding of

  671. his ministry,

  672. Prison Fellowship

  673. and then

  674. Prison Fellowship

  675. International.

  676. This is the

  677. power of the

  678. gospel.

  679. When the

  680. newspapers at

  681. the time first

  682. heard of his

  683. conversion,

  684. many of them

  685. said it was

  686. a made-up

  687. story just so

  688. he could get

  689. out of some

  690. prison time.

  691. But eventually

  692. when it became

  693. clear that it

  694. was true that

  695. he had become

  696. a Christian,

  697. one of the

  698. newspapers said

  699. about him

  700. that if even

  701. he could

  702. repent of

  703. his sin,

  704. then there's

  705. hope for

  706. all of us.

  707. you see,

  708. the truth of

  709. the gospel is

  710. a real

  711. lived-out

  712. experience.

  713. Peter

  714. experienced

  715. Jesus'

  716. transfiguration

  717. where Jesus

  718. was changed

  719. and his

  720. majesty was

  721. there to be

  722. seen.

  723. But we

  724. can experience

  725. the transformation

  726. of the gospel

  727. and it's good

  728. to be reminded

  729. of that.

  730. it's one

  731. of the

  732. reasons that

  733. baptisms are

  734. so great.

  735. To hear

  736. people's

  737. testimonies,

  738. to see them

  739. want to

  740. proclaim that

  741. they are now

  742. followers of

  743. Jesus and

  744. to tell us

  745. how God

  746. has transformed

  747. their lives.

  748. It's good

  749. to be reminded

  750. of the

  751. transformational

  752. power of

  753. God's words.

  754. So yes,

  755. we can

  756. remember,

  757. sorry,

  758. we remember,

  759. we can trust

  760. God's word.

  761. Jesus will

  762. return in

  763. power.

  764. The apostles

  765. didn't make

  766. it up.

  767. So,

  768. what about

  769. the rest of

  770. the Bible

  771. then?

  772. Peter goes

  773. on to say

  774. in the last

  775. chunk of

  776. our passage

  777. tonight,

  778. he says

  779. this,

  780. we also

  781. have the

  782. prophetic

  783. message as

  784. something

  785. completely

  786. reliable,

  787. and you

  788. will do

  789. well to

  790. pay attention

  791. to it,

  792. as to a

  793. light shining

  794. in a dark

  795. place,

  796. until the

  797. day dawns

  798. and the

  799. morning star

  800. rises in

  801. your hearts.

  802. Above all,

  803. you must

  804. understand that

  805. no prophecy

  806. of Scripture

  807. came about

  808. by the

  809. prophet's

  810. own

  811. interpretation

  812. of things.

  813. For

  814. prophecy

  815. never had

  816. its origin

  817. in the

  818. human will,

  819. but prophets,

  820. though human,

  821. spoke from

  822. God as

  823. they were

  824. carried along

  825. by the

  826. Holy Spirit.

  827. When Jesus

  828. appeared on

  829. the scene

  830. the first

  831. time,

  832. it was not

  833. completely out

  834. of the

  835. blue.

  836. His life,

  837. death,

  838. and resurrection

  839. were all

  840. foretold by

  841. the prophets.

  842. In fact,

  843. Jesus fulfilled

  844. at least

  845. 300 prophecies

  846. in his

  847. earthly

  848. ministry.

  849. Isaiah 53

  850. was written

  851. about 700

  852. years before

  853. Jesus was

  854. on earth.

  855. And it

  856. amazes me

  857. every time

  858. I read it.

  859. It almost

  860. seems like

  861. something that

  862. was written

  863. after Jesus'

  864. crucifixion

  865. because it

  866. describes it

  867. so well.

  868. And although

  869. the Bible

  870. has roughly

  871. 40 different

  872. human authors,

  873. in reality,

  874. as Peter

  875. says,

  876. it has

  877. only one

  878. author,

  879. God.

  880. And that

  881. is why

  882. these 66

  883. books work

  884. together so

  885. well,

  886. and why

  887. their prophecies

  888. have come

  889. true,

  890. and why we

  891. can trust

  892. the prophecies

  893. that have not

  894. yet come

  895. true.

  896. And even

  897. at the

  898. transfiguration,

  899. with Moses

  900. and Elijah

  901. there,

  902. Elijah appearing

  903. is the

  904. fulfillment of

  905. a prophecy

  906. in Malachi

  907. 4.

  908. And when

  909. you look at

  910. what's called

  911. the meta

  912. narrative,

  913. the big

  914. overarching

  915. story of

  916. the Bible,

  917. you see how

  918. wonderfully it

  919. all fits

  920. together.

  921. The themes

  922. repeat and

  923. they grow

  924. wonderfully.

  925. something that

  926. I find

  927. really helpful

  928. in seeing

  929. that overarching

  930. story is

  931. a thing called

  932. the Bible

  933. Project.

  934. If you've

  935. not come

  936. across it

  937. before,

  938. I'd recommend

  939. that you

  940. look it

  941. up.

  942. It does

  943. a great

  944. job of

  945. working

  946. through the

  947. themes as

  948. they go

  949. throughout

  950. the whole

  951. Bible.

  952. So yes,

  953. remember,

  954. we can

  955. trust God's

  956. word.

  957. Jesus will

  958. return in

  959. power.

  960. The prophets

  961. confirm it.

  962. So as I

  963. come to

  964. an end

  965. here,

  966. I hope

  967. that's

  968. been a

  969. good reminder

  970. to you.

  971. I hope

  972. it's

  973. given you

  974. some

  975. confidence

  976. in God's

  977. word if

  978. you didn't

  979. have it.

  980. But if

  981. you are

  982. struggling

  983. with doubts,

  984. then I

  985. would urge

  986. you to be

  987. like the

  988. Bereans who

  989. we heard

  990. about this

  991. morning.

  992. Search the

  993. scriptures.

  994. The Bible

  995. stands up

  996. to our

  997. inquiries.

  998. If we're

  999. willing to

  1000. put the

  1001. time in,

  1002. if we're

  1003. willing to

  1004. ask God

  1005. to help

  1006. us,

  1007. I guess

  1008. that's one

  1009. of the

  1010. key things.

  1011. We need

  1012. the Holy

  1013. Spirit to

  1014. reveal the

  1015. truth to

  1016. us.

  1017. These points

  1018. that I've

  1019. made about

  1020. how true

  1021. the Bible

  1022. is,

  1023. they're not

  1024. going to

  1025. convince

  1026. someone without

  1027. the Holy

  1028. Spirit at

  1029. work in

  1030. their lives.

  1031. But for us,

  1032. hopefully,

  1033. it is a

  1034. good reminder

  1035. of these

  1036. things.

  1037. And as you

  1038. go into

  1039. this week,

  1040. how are you

  1041. going to be

  1042. reminded of

  1043. these truths?

  1044. How are you

  1045. going to be

  1046. reminded of

  1047. the truth

  1048. of the

  1049. gospel?

  1050. We talked

  1051. about this

  1052. last weekend

  1053. with Jonathan

  1054. Lamb.

  1055. He asked

  1056. us,

  1057. you know,

  1058. he talked

  1059. about it and

  1060. we were asked

  1061. to discuss it

  1062. as well.

  1063. And some of

  1064. us, we

  1065. talked about

  1066. there was

  1067. mention of

  1068. having post-it

  1069. notes up,

  1070. post-it notes

  1071. up of the

  1072. truth so

  1073. that we

  1074. would,

  1075. you know,

  1076. whenever,

  1077. whatever we're

  1078. doing,

  1079. we would

  1080. see them.

  1081. someone I

  1082. was talking

  1083. to talked

  1084. about having

  1085. alarms on

  1086. their phones

  1087. so that it

  1088. would pop

  1089. up, a

  1090. verse would

  1091. pop up and

  1092. it would be

  1093. a reminder

  1094. of the

  1095. truth or

  1096. there would

  1097. be a

  1098. reminder to

  1099. pray.

  1100. So I

  1101. want you to

  1102. think about

  1103. that.

  1104. What are you

  1105. going to do

  1106. this week to

  1107. remind yourself

  1108. of the

  1109. truth?

  1110. And then

  1111. how are you

  1112. going to be

  1113. like Peter?

  1114. Are you

  1115. going to be

  1116. like Peter?

  1117. Are you

  1118. going to

  1119. remind others?

  1120. You know,

  1121. that's another

  1122. thing that we

  1123. need.

  1124. We need

  1125. each other

  1126. to remind

  1127. each other

  1128. of the

  1129. truth of

  1130. the gospel.

  1131. And we

  1132. are going

  1133. to take

  1134. communion

  1135. tonight.

  1136. And again,

  1137. that is a

  1138. great reminder

  1139. of all that

  1140. Jesus has

  1141. done.

  1142. You know,

  1143. Jesus himself

  1144. told us to

  1145. do that,

  1146. to remember

  1147. him.

  1148. So let

  1149. me just

  1150. pray to

  1151. finish.

  1152. Heavenly

  1153. Father,

  1154. help us

  1155. to have

  1156. confidence

  1157. confidence

  1158. in your

  1159. word.

  1160. Lord,

  1161. help us

  1162. to remember

  1163. that we

  1164. can trust

  1165. your word

  1166. and that

  1167. we can

  1168. trust that

  1169. Jesus is

  1170. going to

  1171. come back

  1172. again and

  1173. he is going

  1174. to come

  1175. back in

  1176. power.

  1177. And Lord,

  1178. as we pray

  1179. together,

  1180. as we take

  1181. communion

  1182. together,

  1183. Lord,

  1184. I pray that

  1185. your Holy

  1186. Spirit would be

  1187. at work

  1188. in our

  1189. lives.

  1190. Reminding

  1191. us of

  1192. all that

  1193. Jesus has

  1194. done for

  1195. us.

  1196. Lord,

  1197. and help

  1198. us to

  1199. respond to

  1200. that in

  1201. love.

  1202. We pray

  1203. this in

  1204. Jesus'

  1205. name.

  1206. Amen.

  1207. Amen.

  1208. Him.

  1209. Amen.

  1210. Amen.

  1211. Thank you.

  1212. Amen.

  1213. Amen.

  1214. Amen.

  1215. Amen.

  1216. Amen.

  1217. Amen.

  1218. Amen.

  1219. Amen.

  1220. Amen.

  1221. Amen.

  1222. Amen.

  1223. Amen.

  1224. Amen.

  1225. Amen.

  1226. Amen.

  1227. Amen.

  1228. Amen.

  1229. Amen.

  1230. Amen.

  1231. Amen.

  1232. Amen.

  1233. Amen.
