Activating the Promises of God | Pastor Dwain Wolfe

-
Two Corinthians one twenty. Last time I was up, we
-
talked about the promises of God and we talked about
-
activating the promises of God a little bit. And this
-
is Passover week? Are you excited about Passover week? This is? Uh?
-
You know every week has passed Over week? Those you
-
know that, well, it kind of is for us. I mean,
-
every week has pass over. Every week is resurrection week.
-
Did you know that every moment is Passover moment? Every
-
moment is resurrection moment. Come on, That's the way it
-
is for a true believer, right. So, I mean, we're
-
going to commemorate and we're going to celebrate. But the
-
commemorating and celebrating it never stops in our hearts, is it, ever? Right?
-
Never stops? Come on? Every moment every day, right, I mean,
-
this is we live and move and have our being
-
in Him. So, but I was talking about the promise
-
of God last time we were together, and how that
-
that those promises are accessed in him, that he that
-
he was the fulfillment of all that God required of
-
mankind ever, and that he he was the one who
-
was worthy for the promises to be fulfilled, And how
-
that when we're in Him that we can activate those promises.
-
And we read such Corinthians one twenty for know how,
-
for no matter how many promises God has made, they
-
are yes in Christ. And so through him a man
-
is spoken by us to the glory of God. For
-
no matter how many promises God has made, has God
-
made a much promises? How many promise readers in the building,
-
any promise readers, any promiskers, any promised lovers? You like
-
promises from God. Now, promises weren't made to tease us
-
or to tantalize us. Promises were made to be fulfilled. Right. So,
-
but there there's usually an equation to a promise. There's
-
an equation to that promise if you do your part,
-
I do my part. I'd like to do this for you,
-
if you do this for me. Right. So, a promise
-
is a it's like a contractual relationship. It's got a
-
bit of a covenant spin to it, right, And so
-
the covenant keeper, Jesus is the covenant keeper. So I
-
referred you back to Deuteronomy twenty eight. Last time we
-
were together, I took you to do Neuroonomy twenty eight.
-
It says that if you will obey and he's talking
-
to Israel, he's talking to the children of Israel, and
-
he says, if you will obey my law, if you
-
will obey my word, then all these blessings will come
-
upon you. Right. And he says, you'll be blessed in
-
the country, you'll be blessed. In the city, you'll be blessed.
-
Going out, you'll be blessed coming in. You'll be blessed.
-
In the fruit of your womb. You'll be blessed. In
-
your field, You'll be blessed. And it goes on for
-
fifteen versus. It's fifteen versus the blessings, but it starts
-
by saying, if you obey my word, right, So they
-
didn't obey his word. They didn't obey his word, so
-
they got into trouble. They got into deep trouble. The
-
trouble got worse because they didn't obey his word. And
-
you know, this is at the core of humanity is
-
we don't want to obey. So Gejesus came to be
-
the obeyor Jesus came to be the obeyor Jesus. Jesus
-
came to obey fully the word of God. So that's
-
why I was telling you if you remember were you
-
here two Corinthians one twenty. That's why I was telling you,
-
no matter how many promises God has made, they are
-
yes and Christ. They are fulfilled in Christ, because he
-
came to obey, He came to do what do Interonomy
-
twenty eight required of man of these children of Israel
-
who should have been covenant keepers because they were not
-
ordinary sons of Adam, they were the children of Isral.
-
They should have been covenant keepers. But they also fell
-
and did not obey, and so the promises weren't fully
-
actualized in them, or buy them or through them. This
-
is why it says in Hebrews for that they had this.
-
They had the good news preached to them as well,
-
but they did not mix it with faith, and so
-
it did not produce. Now, faith is not some you know,
-
I've talked to you a lot about faith. We talked
-
about faith to Sundays gooes. I was talking about the
-
way we activate the promises of God, and we were
-
kind of drawing out of this, you know, for Sewod
-
Corinthians one twenty, we activate the promises of God because
-
it says and so through him the amen is spoken
-
by us the amen is spoken by us. So the
-
promises are yes in him, and we come into agreement
-
with that, and we we say yes, we say yes,
-
we say amen, so be it. And amen doesn't mean
-
just so be it to what was said, but it
-
means so be it unto me. So God calls us
-
into a man that is a yes, because we are
-
in him. We are in Christ Jesus right. And so
-
I was you this amplifying that element of agreement and
-
that element of believing in our heart. But today what
-
I want to amplify a little bit is this, this
-
calling that we have in him, this calling that we
-
have in him that is also critical and key to
-
activating the promises of God. And this calling that we
-
have in him is to identify with his cross. This
-
is Passion week, this is Crucifixion week. And the calling
-
that we have in him is to identify with his
-
cross and to be co crucified with him. We are
-
called to be co crucified with him. In fact, it's
-
Galatians two, verse twenty. And you might be familiar with it.
-
And I don't know if we have it for the
-
screens or how fast we can pop it in. But
-
Galatians two twenty if I can find it. I don't
-
know if I can find it even but they've got
-
it right there. I have been crucified with Christ, and
-
I no longer live. I have been crucified with Christ.
-
I no longer live. It looks to me like you're
-
all alive, anybody in the building alive, but you've been
-
crucified with Christ. Paul says he'd been crucified with Christ,
-
but he was so much alive. He was writing, how
-
is it that his fingers was still working. He was
-
moving the quill on the you know, he was somehow
-
moving over the parchment, and something was happening. But he says,
-
I've been crucified with Christ. Well, if he was crucified
-
with Christ. When Christ was crucified, end of story, right
-
for three days later, But I mean during the crucifixion
-
period there, I mean, that was kind of the end
-
of it. So he says, I have been crucified with
-
Christ and I no longer live. But Christ lives in
-
me and the life that I live that I now
-
live in the body. I live by faith in the
-
Son of God who loved me and gave himself for me.
-
So he's talking about This is like covenant terminology. And
-
he's talking about also that this former life, it's a
-
former life. I have been crucified with Christ. The old eye,
-
the atom eye, that eye that used to exist, the
-
former person that existed has been crucified in Christ, crucified
-
with Christ. We were co crucified, and I no longer live,
-
but I'm still alive. That means the life I'm living
-
is because of the spirit of God in me, the
-
spirit of Christ in me, because I've been made alive
-
in Him. So we're talking about two different people. How
-
many of you recognize in you there's two different people.
-
There's a B C. And there's an there's an a D. Right,
-
there's a there's a there's a before Christ, there's an
-
after death. And and this is this is something that
-
I want us to talk about today and just kind
-
of amplify the day. Is that when we have faith
-
in Christ, when we have God word faith, when we
-
when we have this amplified faith toward Him, and in
-
doing so, we're activating the promises of God, like we
-
talked about, and and I'm affirming that. But there's another
-
part of this is that that that's really the resurrection
-
part of our life. That's the resurrection part of your life.
-
That were united with him in death, that we might
-
also be united with him in resurrection. And just as
-
he was raised from the dead this is Roman chapter
-
just as he was raised from the dead, we too
-
are raised up in newness of life. This is Roman
-
chapter six, verses five through eleven. That whole passage covers
-
some thoughts like that. And the key or the critical
-
part that I want to emphasize today that I feel
-
like the Holy Spirit wants us to amplify in our
-
own hearts and our own minds, is that we are
-
co crucified with Him. That we can't partake of the glory,
-
that we can't partake of the promises. If it's all
-
about just promises, if it's all about just glory, if
-
it's all about just the whipped cream of glory and
-
promises added to our disobedient life, then we can't partake
-
of the glory. We will never fully actualize or taste
-
of the fullness of what God has if we've just
-
thrown being horn of the Spirit on top of our
-
errand adam disobedient life. If it's all about our own choices,
-
all about our own decisions, all about our independence, all
-
about our self will, all about If it's all about us,
-
then we really haven't come to the cross. We haven't
-
identified with what we're called to in covenant. This is
-
a covenant relationship, and Jesus modeled the Covenant for us.
-
Jesus modeled the Covenant for us. Now Hebrew's nine to five,
-
and I think we might have it. Hebrew's nine to
-
five says that he became the mediator, So he's the sacrifice,
-
He's the high priest. He is the mediator of a
-
new covenant and a better covenant. Luke twenty two. He says,
-
this wine that we're about to part take up coming
-
into the passover is it's the new Covenant. It's actually
-
the shedding of my blood. He was laying down his
-
life in forming this new covenant. Right now, we're watching
-
President Trump like it or not. Some of us don't
-
like it. Some of us are worried about. You know,
-
I'm always I'm always yapping about Chinese goods. Now I'm
-
a little worried about my Chinese goods. I'm always I'm
-
always criticizing anybody buying Chinese goods, including me. Now, I'm like,
-
oh boy, I wonder what's gonna happen to my wallet.
-
So Missus Wolf and I were having a talk about
-
a few chure on Chinese goods when you need to
-
purchase right away. Uh. But anyway, but we're watching President
-
Trump right now negotiate these tariffs, right, and so he
-
has become on behalf of the American people. He has
-
become the mediator of a better covenant with all these nations.
-
That's the idea. Anyway, that's what we think is happening.
-
That's what we hope is happening. Right, anybody hoping, Let's hope,
-
Let's hope, let's hope. So he's become the mediator of
-
a better covenant, right with all these nations, with better promises. Well,
-
this is what Jesus Jesus. It says multiple places, but
-
I think Hebrews nine to five is one of them
-
that Jesus is a became the mediator of a better covenant.
-
And this is a covenant with better promises. So a
-
mediator means that. So he's making he's making this covenant
-
with God on our behalf. And like there's terms to
-
the covenant. There were terms to the covenant. One was restitution.
-
One was restitution. He had to pay off our debt,
-
so there was restitution. So the sacrifice of his body
-
now the ceiling of the covenant. The ceiling of the covenant,
-
that was the shedding of his blood. The shedding of
-
his blood was the laying down his life completely under
-
Father's will. And he's representing us. And we were errant,
-
we were rebellious, we were prideful, we were boastful, we
-
were we were sinful, we were calloused. And and the
-
essence of our sin, the full understanding of our sin,
-
is not defined by our sin. The essence of our
-
sin is defined by our disobedience. So when you even
-
think about your own life and you think about your sinfulness,
-
or your sins, or your lack of sin, just remember
-
this that that it's it's not the numerical number of sins.
-
It's not even the type of sins. It's not how
-
many sins, it's not it's not whether you Because look
-
at Paul. Paul says, I'm the Hebrew of Hebrews, and
-
I've kept the law, but yet I count everything I've
-
done as dung. Because keeping the law is counting yourself
-
as righteous by not sinning. But the summary of our
-
the summary of our sinfulness, is disobedience that we don't
-
want to disobey. We don't want to. I mean, we
-
don't want to obey. We don't we don't want to
-
obey God's desires of us even so much. And you
-
know you've experienced it. I don't know you've experienced it
-
with yourself, experience it with your children, experience it with
-
your spouse. But but Paul says in Roman Chef seven
-
that it's so bad that even when I want to
-
do something good, if if the word of God tells
-
me to do something, then I don't want to do
-
it anymore if the law tells you not to do it,
-
or if the law tells you to do it. Like
-
if somebody tells you, like you, you've got it in
-
your heart to give somebody some money, and then somebody
-
comes along and says, hey, you got to give them
-
some money. You're like, I don't have to give anybody anything.
-
Who were you telling me? But you were just thinking
-
a moment ago you'd like to give them some money.
-
But then when somebody demands you give them the money,
-
suddenly like it's it's disobedience. Ephesians two one and two
-
says that the spirit of disobedience was implanted in us.
-
It literally was deposited when Adam fell the spirit of
-
disobedience against the perfection of God, against the perfection of
-
his desire against and the law. All the law is
-
is the codified desire of God. That's why the law
-
is called perfect. In the Psalms, it's called perfect. The
-
law of the Lord is perfect. That's why in Roman
-
chapter seven, Paul says, the law is holy. Why am
-
I bucking against the thing that is holy, the thing
-
that is holy that was meant to actually stimulate goodness
-
in me? Sin rose up. And when the law says
-
thou shalt not covet, I sin revived in my members
-
and I suddenly wanted to covet. Does that mean the
-
law is unholy? No, Paul says, the law is not unholy.
-
The law is good. But it's disobedience in me, disobedience
-
in me. And this is when Jesus was negotiating. He
-
was the mediator on our behalf, in his humanity, not
-
in his divinity. Jesus fully human, fully human. And when
-
we think about Jesus, like if you think your intelligent.
-
He love somebody if you think you know, if you
-
think you know a thing, uh huh uh huh, let's
-
just line you up up against Jesus, right. So, I mean,
-
we're talking about learned, We're talking about we're talking about perfection.
-
We're talking about memory, understanding, We're talking about insight. Counsel.
-
That says in Isaiah eleven, the sevenfold spirit of God
-
was on him, not in his divinity, in his humanity.
-
The spirit of counsel was resting on him. The spirit
-
of wisdom was resting on him. We're talking about somebody
-
that could make a decision or two. We're talking about
-
somebody that could have been independent. We're talking about somebody
-
that could have had an independent thought. We're talking about
-
somebody who could have been in control. We're talking about
-
somebody who you follow what I'm saying. And yet, and
-
yet he brought he, He in this mediation, mediating a
-
new covenant for us that we would be brought into
-
as we yielded ourselves to him. He had to conquer
-
in the mediation. He had to conquer the biggest thing
-
ever that humanity will ever deal with, disobedience. He had
-
to conquer disobedience. This is the suffering he endured, the primary,
-
and the first, and the major and the most important
-
suffering that he endured. We see it in the garden
-
in Matthew twenty six. We see it in first Peter four,
-
or me to two you in a minute. The primary
-
suffering that he endured that we're called to endure now
-
is the suffering of obedience. That he would bring every
-
thought to Father, that he would bring every thought to Father,
-
that he would subject to every thought to Father. Why
-
because in this mediation, Adam had never done it. Adam
-
couldn't do it. Adam wouldn't do it. Adam was sold
-
to disobedience and would not yield his or her thoughts
-
to God, would not obey. And so Jesus, the mediator
-
of this new covenant, had to yield every thought to God.
-
And he did it on our behalf. But he calls
-
us into the same calling. This is the this is
-
the this is the this is the sweat on his brow,
-
This is the agony in the garden. This is him embracing,
-
embracing what Father has called him to do. And we
-
say it in Matthew twenty six, I think thirty eight.
-
Let's go there real quick, and this is a familiar passage.
-
Going a little further, he fell with his face to
-
the ground and prayed, my Father, if it is possible,
-
may this cup be taken from me? Yet not as
-
I will, but as you will. Now we know that
-
as like this famous this famous prayer. Nevertheless, not my will,
-
but yours be done. And you'll notice too. And Luke,
-
it says, no one takes my life from me, but
-
I lay it down. Why because this was part of
-
the mediation. God's not going to take your life from you.
-
You have to lay it down. This is part of
-
the mediation. Part of the mediation on our behalf is
-
that he would become that gentle lamb, that he would
-
become that submitted one, that he would become that yielded one,
-
and in doing so bridge the gap and make this
-
covenant with Father on our behalf, that we could be
-
brought in, that we could receive the spirit, we could
-
receive a heart of flesh, and that we too, then
-
would bring our lives, that we would bring our disobedience
-
to the cross, and that we would be co crucified
-
with him, co crucified with him. Let's go over to
-
the first Peter chapter four. I want you to see that,
-
and then I want to go to Romans eight. A
-
lot of times I quote out of Romans eight, I
-
quote the juicy parts of Romans eight, but we forget
-
about the hard parts. So today I'm going to talk
-
about the hard part, not just the juicy part. First
-
Peter four. Therefore, since Christ separate in his body, arm
-
yourselves also with the same attitude, because whoever supped in
-
the body is done with sin. Now this is interesting.
-
He's talking about he's talking about arm yourselves. This is interesting.
-
Arm yourselves. Arm yourselves against the devil, Arm yourselves against
-
the curse, Arm yourselves against wickedness, Arm yourselves against darkness.
-
Arm yourselves. Arm yourselves out through suffering, through suffering by
-
not feeding your flesh, by coming into disobedience to Holy Spirit.
-
Arm yourselves, Arm yourself, because this is what he did.
-
He's suffered in the flesh, is what it says in
-
the body here, But it's sarks in the Greek. It's
-
the flesh. It's the flesh nature. The NIV doesn't do
-
a true justice. It's not just the suffering in the body.
-
It's not like it's oh yeah, he went without a
-
meal or two or oh yeah, that's what when he
-
had his forty days. No, no, no, he lived a
-
life of moment by moment, being armed against the flesh,
-
by suffering and not disobeying Holy Spirit, submitting and subjecting
-
every thought to God and bringing his thoughts we'll talk
-
about it in a moment out of Southern Corinthians, chapter ten,
-
bringing his thoughts into subjection to God. We're called to
-
bring our thoughts into subjection to Christ. He brought his
-
every thought into subjection to God. This is actually spiritual warfare.
-
He was engaging daily and moment by moment in spiritual warfare.
-
He didn't take up his cross in the end. Only
-
he was taking up his cross daily, the cross of
-
not asserting my will, having it my way, not staying
-
in control, not being in charge of everything. No, the
-
Father is in charge. The Father is leaving me, the
-
Father is calling me, the Father is directing me. I'm
-
subjecting every thought to the Father. Have the same attitude
-
in you, because whoever suffers in the flesh is done
-
with sin. As a result, they do not live the
-
rest of their earthly lives for evil human desires, but
-
rather for the will of God. Who do they live for?
-
Who do they live for? Who do they live for?
-
Who they live for the will of He says, Jesus
-
did this as an example. Jesus did this as an example.
-
And we are called to arm ourselves in the same
-
way that we would. We would present ourselves as dead
-
to the old life, dead to the adam life, dead
-
to the desires of the old life, dead to self government,
-
self will, dead to disobedience, dead to pride and rebellion.
-
Look at uh, go over to uh. Let's let's go.
-
I'm Romans eight. Here we go, Romans eight seventeen. I
-
like to quote the juicy parts out of this Romans
-
eight passage where it says, you know that the whole
-
earth is groaning for the sons of God to be manifest,
-
you know. And I like to get us all excited
-
about that stuff. And it's true. It's good that we
-
are called, and Joe is talking about it during the offering,
-
that we are called Royal Team, we're called the sons
-
of God, we're called the heirs of God. That the
-
earth is groaning for us to manifest our redemption. Essentially, right,
-
that's all good. That's all the juicy parts Verse seventeen. Now,
-
if we are sons of God, if we are children,
-
then we are heirs errors of God and coheres with Christ.
-
Heirs of God, coheres with Christ. We are heirs of
-
the fullness of the Spirit. We are heirs of righteousness.
-
We are heirs of this earth. We are He's inherited
-
the earth by virtue of his victory over darkness and
-
this covenant that He's made, So we are heirs. We
-
are heirs of God coheres with Christ if indeed, we
-
share in his sufferings in order that we may share
-
in His glory. So death precedes resurrection. And it's it's
-
not a one time thing. It's not like you can
-
just die now. We're gonna have water baptism next week.
-
And according to Roman chapter six and Colossians and all
-
sorts of passages, we're told that water baptism is your
-
entry into death. It's significant if you haven't been water baptized.
-
Water baptism is not for people that are going to die.
-
By the way, if you plan on the next Sunday
-
Easter Sunday, we'll have water baptism. But if you planned
-
on dying next Sunday, not spiritually. Literally, if you plan
-
on dying, you don't need to be water baptized. You'ld
-
be fine. Water baptism is people. Is for people who
-
plan on living. If you plan on living, then you
-
really want to get out of Adam and you want
-
to get into Christ, and so you need a burial service.
-
The water baptism is a burial service. It's a literal spiritual.
-
It's not figurative. It's not like a game. It is
-
a literal spiritual. It is a burial service. And we
-
put Adam to death, We put the and we put
-
our obligation to Adam, and we put our disobedience to Adam,
-
and we put we put everything about Adam to death
-
in the waters of baptism to burial service. This is
-
Drawman chapter six. To burial service. But we're called the resurrection.
-
And he says that we are heirs of God and
-
co ers with Christ if indeed we share in his sufferings.
-
Now what are the sufferings? It's the sufferings I'm talking
-
about the primary suffering that He's called us to share him,
-
the first, the primary It will be later today. A
-
moment by moment is going to be the primary it's
-
going to This is going to happen several times the
-
rest of this day. Today. It's the suffering of obedience.
-
And it's not just the suffering of obedience like distance obedience.
-
It's the suffering of obedience to the point of yearning
-
to obey. It's the point of yearning to obey like
-
wanting to include. So the soft heart, Jeremiah says, I'll
-
make a new covenant with them. And when I make
-
a new covenant with them, I'm going to pull out
-
their heart of stone and I'm going to put in
-
a heart of flesh. That means that when we are
-
co crucified with them and we receive the Holy Spirit,
-
then we begin to think about how to include him.
-
We begin to think about thoughts that please him. We
-
begin to bring him into every realm. We aren't ignoring him.
-
The life of the resurrected believer is the right life
-
of including him. Right, I'm not I'm not trying to
-
ignore him. I'm trying to include him. And this is
-
part of part of why we have Uh. You know,
-
you can have devotions in the morning, right, anybody ever
-
had devotions in the morning, any morning devotion. People, you
-
can have devotions in the morning, but how many of
-
you know you're not done. How many of you know
-
your relationship with God is not some summarized by devotion,
-
by a devotion, by devotions in the morning, that your
-
relationship with Him is throughout the day, that we're constantly
-
in this relationship with Him. We're feeding on the spirit.
-
Were led by the spirit, the sons of God. It
-
goes on to say here that the sons of God
-
are those who are led by the Spirit of God.
-
It's an ongoing relationship, and there there's literally times throughout
-
the day where you embrace the cross again, like something
-
happens and somebody cuts you off, and then somebody says
-
something harsh, and then there's a chance to get offended.
-
And there's this, that and the other thing. And you're
-
constantly bringing that endemic nature to the cross and presenting
-
it crucified, and you're leaning into Holy Spirit, and you're
-
activating Holy Spirit, and you're coming into agreement with Holy
-
Spirit that you are that resurrected person. You are that
-
new creation person. You are that one who is in
-
the second atom. You're not that one who is in
-
the first atom. Let's govern the Second Corinthians, chapter ten.
-
We're so familiar with that passage most of us, and
-
so many of us are familiar with that passage because
-
of restored life. And I'll use that passage. Any of
-
us there are that are beaten up devils will use
-
this passage. But I want you to see this passage
-
in light of what we're talking about. That the suffering
-
that we're called to is the suffering to bring disobedience
-
to the cross and to put disobedience to death. And
-
this is what Jesus did as he negotiated as the
-
mediator of the New Covenant. This is what Jesus did,
-
not only in the Garden Matthew twenty six, but this
-
is what Jesus did throughout his life, throughout his life.
-
So even his expression in Matthew twenty six in the Garden, nevertheless,
-
not my will, but yours be done, he had been
-
saying that for thirty three years. This was his life.
-
Tewod Trinthens, Chapter ten, three through five. The weapons we
-
fight with are not the weapons of the world. Did
-
you start a verse three? Huh? Go back to verse three, Oh,
-
there is there is there. I got ahead for though
-
we live in the world. We do not wage war
-
as the world does. So let's talk about that for
-
a minute. Waging war, because we've introduced this idea first,
-
Peter four, arm yourselves this war. It's a war. It's
-
a war to be bringing like our war is to
-
overcome darkness and to overcome the enemy and to overcome
-
the curse. That's our war. But the weapons that we
-
have are to suffer. The weapon that we have is obedience,
-
and to arm ourselves with this weapon of obedience, wherein
-
we will not disobey the Holy Spirit, and we will
-
include him in all that we are and all that
-
we do. So let's keep it in that context instead
-
of today, instead of that context of beating up principalities
-
and powers, I want to keep it in the near
-
context of beating up everything that wants to get in
-
the way of the glory that God has for my life.
-
Go back to it. So, though we live in the world,
-
we do not wage war as the world does. The
-
weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world.
-
On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
-
Where are the first strongholds that I'm concerned about? They're
-
in me. We demolish arguments. Oh, this is interesting. We
-
demolish arguments and every pretension or imagination that sets itself
-
up against the knowledge of God. And we take captive
-
every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Wow, now
-
this is interesting. This is really wild. And we're talking
-
about a Coro crucifixion. We want a co glory, we
-
want a co resurrection, but it can't happen without a
-
co crucifixion. And he says, and I think this is
-
interesting that the Holy Spirit was highlighting this to me
-
with conviction. No, we don't just bring our sinful thoughts.
-
It doesn't say and we and we take captive every
-
sinful thought. That's what I tend to do. Can I
-
just be honest, anybody in the building, are you listening,
-
don't record this part. What I tend to do is
-
I take captive every sinful thought. So if I if
-
I know a thought is sinful, I'm working on that
-
one right there. You know, don't do that, don't do that,
-
don't do that, don't do that. I'm thinking captive every
-
sinful thought. But no, this is a relationship of covenant
-
submission and covenant unity. This is a relationship of common union. Hello, somebody,
-
I mean, this relationship is so close. You think you're
-
close with your spouse, This relationship is so much closer,
-
but so much similar. That he says that the weapons
-
of our warfare are to bring every thought into captivity.
-
Bring every thought, not just our sinful thoughts, bring every
-
thought into captivity, and submit those thoughts to our husband,
-
to our marriage partner, to the one who covers us,
-
the one who made this covenant on our behalf with father,
-
and that we've entered into. We've entered into that covenant.
-
The only way we can enter into a covenant is
-
we have to die to ourselves. We have to die.
-
A covenant is a death expression. You know that, marriage partners,
-
how's it working out for you when you try to
-
keep your life? Those of you that got married you,
-
you didn't know you were getting married to die. Nobody
-
told you that. You thought you thought it was wedded bliss.
-
Well it is wedded bliss if you die. But if
-
you don't die, then it's wedded misery. You have to die.
-
That's what a covenant is all about. A covenant is
-
all about death. A covenant is all about because in
-
death you're essentially giving the fullness of you, Like there's
-
no greater sacrifice than laid down your life for the
-
other person. So that's what a covenant symbolizes, that I
-
no longer live for you. I live I mean for me.
-
I live for you. So I'm laying my life fully
-
down and trusting it will result in resurrection. The stand
-
is worn. Let's just pray together, heads bowed, eyes closed,
-
just for a moment. And that's the destiny theme to
-
come and help us up front. The riches of his inheritance,
-
the powers of the age to come, the glory of Heaven,
-
the manifestation of the promises of God. They aren't whit
-
cream just to be thrown on top of your already
-
hon rebellious, self, willed, disobedient self. If that's the Christianity
-
you're looking for, you're looking in the wrong place. It
-
won't work. It won't work. Your opinions don't matter. Your
-
opinions don't matter. My opinions don't matter. His opinion is
-
the only opinion that matters. And when I come to Jesus,
-
I have to give up my life to enter into
-
the covenant that he gave up his life to make
-
on my behalf. If you're here this morning and you
-
just Holy spirits calling you to a deeper place. Now,
-
I want you to just, with our heads a bowed
-
and eyes clothes, I want you to just examine your
-
life for a moment. Is there something you're keeping from him?
-
Is there something you're not even allowing him into? Are
-
there thoughts in your world? They aren't even sinful thoughts
-
in your understanding, but you don't include him in them?
-
Are their opinions you're making, even about church, religion, ministry, life, culture, family, money, serving.
-
Are there opinions you're making where you haven't invited him in.
-
That's called independence, that's called self will. And you don't
-
know it, but you're limiting your glory. You're harming resurrection life.
-
You're quenching the glory to be revealed in you, every
-
one of us by keeping a little bit of the
-
old life alive. So, Holy Spirit, we ask you right
-
now just calm and rest upon all of us. Let
-
your conviction rest upon us, as you call us to royalty,
-
as you've knitted to the beloved, as we've joined our
-
heart to you, Holy Spirit, Come even as we go
-
into this week, and we commemorate the death of the Song.
-
Let us not look at it this week without seeing
-
that we are co crucified with them. That all of
-
our stubbornness, all of our independence, all of our self will,
-
all of our opinions, they were brought to the cross
-
and placed on the cross with him. And the only
-
way for us to participate and receive and partake of
-
resurrection is by leaving all of those there right at
-
that cross quickness. Today, we're gonna worship as we go.
-
I invite you to come and be prayed for. We've
-
got a lot of stuff going on. We're an active body.
-
We're gonna have a little meet and greet if you're
-
newer with us, right back at the my church wall.
-
So if you're newer to our body, we welcome come
-
back and have a cookie with us at the meet
-
at the my church wall. Then we've got the nacho
-
bar going. But you know, I don't run out of
-
here without praying or just being prayed for the Holy
-
Spirit touching you and talking to you about drawing near
-
to Him through the suffering of obedience. Then come and
-
be prayed for today, and God bless you. We love
-
your church
