  1. Okay, thanks so much, Gary. Folks, keep that passage open in front of you in Galatians chapter 6.

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  2. ! According to website L.com, E-L-L-E, avid readers I'm sure you are.

  3. Here's what's making something of a comeback in the world of high street fashion.

  4. The cross pendant. Now if you're there, you're here, and you're wearing one today, then go ahead and enjoy the next five,

  5. five seconds, knowing that you are bang on trend.

  6. And let me then burst your bubble and tell you why it's really strange.

  7. Suppose for a minute that we were to jump in a time machine, travel back to the first century,

  8. and walk around the region of Galatia, what is now modern day Turkey, wearing a cross around our necks.

  9. People would not be thinking bang on trend.

  10. People would be squinting and looking at us with a puzzled expression,

  11. and they would likely ask us, why on earth are you wearing a symbol of torture, of humiliation, and agonizing death?

  12. That's the thing that criminals are executed on, and where they are made an example of.

  13. And you're wearing it around your neck? What's the matter with you?

  14. And case in point would be Jesus of Nazareth.

  15. You see, the Romans, in the first century, looked at Jesus on the cross, and they concluded powerless.

  16. The Greeks looked at Jesus on the cross, and they concluded foolishness.

  17. The Jews looked at Jesus on the cross, and they concluded cursed by God.

  18. But have a look at verse 14 of Galatians chapter 6.

    Galatians 6 chapter mention

  19. And remember that Paul, the guy writing this letter, was formerly one of those Jews who looked at Jesus and thought good riddance.

  20. But now having encountered the risen Jesus, he now looks at what Jesus did on the cross, and he says,

  21. My boast.

  22. My glory, my revel, my pride, my everything, my boast.

  23. And fast forward 2,000 years, and here's Alice, a girl from Cumbria, studying to be a vet.

  24. Her life totally different from this man, Paul, and yet she's declaring exactly the same thing.

  25. Curious, isn't it?

  26. As so many people in our world see the futility and fleeting nature of what modern culture holds out to us.

  27. And as people today are looking for a bigger and a truer story to anchor themselves in.

  28. One that spans the generations and is swept like wildfire across the nations.

  29. It really is curious.

  30. And it's worth reflecting on the durability and timeless nature of the Christian faith.

  31. I was listening just the other day to a young man in his 30s called James.

  32. James was talking about how growing up he swallowed a secular mantra.

  33. And try this one on for size when it comes to genius atheist marketing.

  34. He said, this is what I heard.

  35. I heard the mantra that science will fly you to the moon, but religion will fly you into buildings.

  36. And he thought, genius.

  37. Got it.

  38. A snappy slogan, he said, that had me hook, line and sinker.

  39. But years later, reflecting on the mental health and meaning crisis facing his generation,

  40. he thought to himself,

  41. maybe there is something in this Christianity stuff that I was so quick to dismiss.

  42. And turning to the Bible, he finds in the person of Jesus and specifically at the cross of Jesus,

  43. a message that is both compelling and true.

  44. You know, I wonder if you, maybe you're here this morning and you're somebody that I think G.K. Chesterton was thinking of all those years ago

  45. when he said the Christian ideal has not been tried and found wanting.

  46. It's been found difficult and left untried.

  47. You see, Paul, as he finishes his letter to the people in these churches in Galatia,

  48. as a church, we've been through this letter over the last couple of months.

  49. And the words in this section might be different, but here's the thing.

  50. The base is exactly the same.

  51. Nothing's changed in his final plea.

  52. Here's the big thing.

  53. Really simply, Jesus is all you need.

  54. Jesus is all you need.

  55. And he's going for one last big play,

  56. one last big pitch in this letter.

  57. That's what the whole

  58. see with what large letters I write thing

  59. is all about.

  60. In case you were thinking, what on earth is that?

  61. Because here's what would have been going on.

  62. Paul would have been dictating this letter to a scribe

  63. up until this point.

  64. But now, as it were,

  65. he takes the scroll, he grabs the quill,

  66. and he goes to town on the papyrus.

  67. You can imagine that whoever has the task

  68. of reading out this letter in these churches,

  69. holding it out so that everyone can see at this point,

  70. and saying,

  71. hey guys, we know that handwriting.

  72. It's him.

  73. It authenticates Paul.

  74. But it does way more than that.

  75. This is his way of getting their attention.

  76. What would we do when we send emails today,

  77. or texts, or WhatsApp messages?

  78. What's really important is the text in bold,

  79. font size large, underlined.

  80. You need to get this.

  81. If you get one thing, get this.

  82. And this is what Paul's doing here.

  83. He's saying, you've got to understand this

  84. as I leave you.

  85. And what really simply we have in this passage

  86. is a comparison in boasting.

  87. And here's the reality for all of us this morning, friends.

  88. We're all boasting in something.

  89. Something gets each of us out of bed in the morning.

  90. Something gives purpose to each of our days.

  91. Something provides the reason for our existence.

  92. Something means that we think there is a future.

  93. Something, that something is what we boast in.

  94. The only question is, what is it?

  95. So here's this comparison in boasting.

  96. Firstly, from verse 12, he gives you these false teachers

  97. who've invaded this church, these churches in this region.

  98. And they're peddling the mantra

  99. that faith in Jesus is a cracking start.

  100. But if you really want to perfect your faith,

  101. if you really mean business,

  102. if you really want to be in,

  103. then you must add to your faith

  104. a suite of Jewish religious practices.

  105. So Jesus isn't quite enough.

  106. It is Jesus plus the addition of all this stuff.

  107. That's the solution to your problem.

  108. And Paul in this message, he says,

  109. see if you strip it back.

  110. Really, this is just three quite simple, hollow things.

  111. Number one, these guys are all about,

  112. just see it in the text,

  113. these guys are all about self-promotion.

  114. So they're after boasting in how many converts they make.

  115. That's their skin in the game.

  116. They're not really interested in you.

  117. Right?

  118. It's like when you phone up a call center

  119. and they say your call is really important to us

  120. and you think, well, if I'm caller number 362,

  121. I'm not quite sure that's true.

  122. That's what he's saying here.

  123. They don't care.

  124. You're just a number to them.

  125. You're just a statistic to them.

  126. You're a tally mark.

  127. And what does it come down to?

  128. Verse 12, what do they want?

  129. They just want to impress people

  130. with the number of converts that they've made.

  131. Number two, these guys are all about self-preservation.

  132. They just don't want to be persecuted

  133. for what they believe in.

  134. Do you know, a message that says at its heart,

  135. really, it's still all about you

  136. and what you do and what you contribute.

  137. That kind of goes down well with the world.

  138. Okay, you do your Jewish things,

  139. but we'll do our pagan things.

  140. We'll do our other things.

  141. And we're all kind of in the same game here.

  142. We just all think we're working our way to God.

  143. Christianity is completely different.

  144. But these guys don't want to be persecuted.

  145. A state-approved religion is not a threat to the world.

  146. And three, these guys,

  147. their message really is all about self-help.

  148. Saying that there is something that you can do

  149. to contribute something to your salvation.

  150. But Paul says, verse 13,

  151. do you see the emptiness of it all?

  152. They don't even keep the law themselves.

  153. So the very thing that they want you to do,

  154. they don't even do it themselves.

  155. Do you see how hollow that is?

  156. These teachers, they talk big.

  157. But at the end of the day, there's no fruit.

  158. And here's the drum that Paul's been banging

  159. all the way through this letter.

  160. It's a mindset.

  161. It's a mindset.

  162. Thinking that by cleaning up your outside,

  163. your inside is going to follow.

  164. Think again.

  165. It just doesn't work like that.

  166. You've got a completely the wrong way around.

  167. But do you know what does work?

  168. Do you know what really does work?

  169. It's the thing that I'm about to tell you

  170. I'm about to boast in.

  171. Verse 14.

  172. I boast in the cross of Jesus Christ.

  173. And you think, hang on a minute.

  174. That brutal form of execution?

  175. How does that work?

  176. What did Paul find?

  177. What has Alice found as they both look

  178. at the old rugged cross?

  179. Friends, that's the place where you and I see

  180. what God really thinks of us.

  181. The cross says two things to us.

  182. It says, number one, that you and I are more broken

  183. and rebellious and lost than we stop to think.

  184. And let's be honest, that's really jarring.

  185. Because we're not used to that kind of talk

  186. in our culture.

  187. Right?

  188. At kids' sports days today,

  189. everybody wins.

  190. At Pass the Parcel,

  191. if you watched that Bluey episode,

  192. everybody gets a prize.

  193. That's the reason that love hearts

  194. are still one of the best-selling items

  195. from the sweetie aisle at the supermarket.

  196. You're the best.

  197. You're awesome.

  198. You're perfect.

  199. You're number one.

  200. The cross says, no, we're not.

  201. We're not.

  202. We're really, really not.

  203. And deep down, friends,

  204. we know that that's true.

  205. We look out and we see that.

  206. We look inside and we feel that.

  207. Multifaceted problems.

  208. Multifaceted problems.

  209. And it's really interesting

  210. because the Bible,

  211. into these multifaceted problems,

  212. gives us a multi-angle definition of sin.

  213. lives that fall short of God's standards,

  214. missing the mark,

  215. minds that are darkened,

  216. desires that are bent out of shape,

  217. lives that long to worship,

  218. but look for that object of worship

  219. in all the wrong places,

  220. hearts that suppress the truth,

  221. like a beach ball holding it underwater,

  222. suppressing the truth,

  223. the things that we know to be true.

  224. And I'm really glad that the Bible does that.

  225. Because when I came to Jesus

  226. and I read his diagnosis

  227. of the world out there

  228. and the heart in here,

  229. it fitted hand in glove.

  230. The cross declares to you and I publicly

  231. that there is a problem.

  232. A problem so big and unsolvable by us

  233. that God sent his son, Jesus,

  234. who willingly stepped into our earthly existence,

  235. who knew pain,

  236. who knew grief,

  237. who knew mocking,

  238. who knew injustice,

  239. and all of those things culminating

  240. in the only perfect one

  241. being crucified on a Roman cross.

  242. It says there at the cross

  243. that God is just.

  244. In our world where we long for justice,

  245. that's what the cross declares,

  246. that every evil thing,

  247. every bit of suffering,

  248. everything that's wrong with the world,

  249. that declares to us the cross that it's true.

  250. God's just.

  251. He is perfectly just.

  252. He cannot just sweep sin under the carpet.

  253. What kind of God would he be

  254. if that was what he did?

  255. God's justice,

  256. his wrath,

  257. his anger,

  258. all of human sin and evil.

  259. Jesus goes to the cross

  260. and pays the penalty for it all.

  261. And no one puts this better than

  262. John Stott.

  263. And this quote stopped me in my tracks this week

  264. when I was preparing for this.

  265. Can I just read it to you?

  266. See if this connects.

  267. He says this.

  268. Every time we look at the cross,

  269. Christ seems to say to us,

  270. I am here because of you.

  271. It is your sin that I am bearing,

  272. your curse that I am suffering,

  273. your debt that I am paying,

  274. your death that I am dying.

  275. Nothing in all the universe

  276. cuts us down to size

  277. like the cross.

  278. All of us have inflated views of ourselves,

  279. especially in self-righteousness

  280. until we have visited

  281. a place called Calvary.

  282. It is there

  283. at the foot of the cross

  284. that we shrink

  285. to our true size.

  286. And it is there, friends,

  287. that Paul and Alice

  288. and every single believer bows

  289. because it is the place

  290. that says,

  291. my sin put him there.

  292. It declares there is a problem

  293. in the cross,

  294. but here is the wonderful second thing

  295. that it declares,

  296. that you and I are more loved

  297. and known than we could ever

  298. hope possible.

  299. Paul has already talked about that

  300. back in chapter two.

  301. He talked about the Son of God

  302. and Alice quoted it,

  303. didn't she?

  304. Of the Son of God

  305. who loved me.

  306. And it is really interesting there

  307. that he goes personal.

  308. He doesn't say us,

  309. which would have been true.

  310. He says me.

  311. Jesus loved me.

  312. And Paul, of all people,

  313. knows that he deserved

  314. nothing but the opposite.

  315. That is the guy with dead Christians

  316. on his conscience.

  317. He says,

  318. Jesus loved me.

  319. Jesus was patient with me.

  320. Jesus showed grace

  321. and kindness to me

  322. when I didn't deserve it.

  323. And that's where he showed it.

  324. At the cross.

  325. And so bring these two things together,

  326. friends.

  327. Do you see the perfect justice of God

  328. and the unfailing,

  329. unrivaled love of God?

  330. They kiss at the cross.

  331. Some of you might remember,

  332. you might be of a vintage,

  333. that you remember tennis player

  334. from years ago,

  335. a female tennis player

  336. called Chris Avert.

  337. Some of you will have no idea

  338. what I'm talking about,

  339. but some of you will know.

  340. She was formidable in her day.

  341. I think her career win-loss record

  342. was the best of any singles player

  343. in history.

  344. But here's the really interesting thing

  345. I read this week.

  346. See, she contemplated retirement.

  347. The massive success of her career.

  348. She was utterly petrified

  349. of giving it up.

  350. Here's what she said in this interview.

  351. She said,

  352. winning made me feel

  353. like I was somebody.

  354. It made me feel pretty.

  355. It was like being hooked on a drug.

  356. I needed the wins,

  357. the applause,

  358. in order

  359. to have

  360. an identity.

  361. Now listen,

  362. tennis might not be your thing.

  363. You might not know

  364. your forehand

  365. from your backhand,

  366. but sketch what she's saying

  367. onto each of our lives.

  368. What is the thing?

  369. What is the thing

  370. that we're all looking to

  371. to give us that sense

  372. of being somebody?

  373. Putting in

  374. the work at the gym,

  375. in front of the mirror,

  376. cramming at the library,

  377. extra hours at the office,

  378. trying to get your kids

  379. into that school,

  380. contemplating taking

  381. the bigger mortgage

  382. to get the house.

  383. Listen,

  384. none of these things

  385. in and of themselves

  386. are bad.

  387. But whatever that thing is,

  388. it's as if Jesus

  389. would come alongside

  390. to us and say,

  391. listen,

  392. what's really going on

  393. in your heart?

  394. What's the applause

  395. you're living for?

  396. What's the thing

  397. that you are seeking?

  398. Listen,

  399. see,

  400. whatever it is,

  401. is it going to be enough?

  402. Whatever it is,

  403. you're chasing bubbles.

  404. You know that song,

  405. they fly so high,

  406. they reach the sky,

  407. and like my dreams,

  408. they fade and die?

  409. What has Paul found

  410. at the cross?

  411. Why does he boast?

  412. Because he's found

  413. everything that he needs.

  414. He's found the one

  415. applause worth living for.

  416. Because he's found

  417. at the cross,

  418. he's found in Jesus

  419. the way to be reconciled

  420. with the living God.

  421. The God that he thought

  422. he was pursuing

  423. in all the wrong ways,

  424. the God that met him

  425. in Christ,

  426. he's been reconciled

  427. reconciled to the living God.

  428. And he's been saved

  429. to know the living God.

  430. And it was nothing

  431. to do with him.

  432. What greater purpose

  433. is there in the world,

  434. according to Paul,

  435. than to experience

  436. that possibility?

  437. And that's why Paul says,

  438. I boast.

  439. I boast in the thing

  440. that made me right

  441. with my creator.

  442. I boast in the place

  443. where the justice

  444. of God is seen.

  445. I boast in the place

  446. where the love of God

  447. is seen.

  448. And I boast about the fact

  449. that I can know

  450. this God is my Father.

  451. And do you see

  452. in this text

  453. how he doesn't leave it there.

  454. He kind of drills it down.

  455. Notice the two C's.

  456. What does that mean

  457. for our lives

  458. if we follow this Christ?

  459. It means,

  460. first of all,

  461. do you see

  462. that the world

  463. has been crucified

  464. to us?

  465. Paul says,

  466. I have been crucified

  467. to the world.

  468. And caught up in that

  469. word world

  470. is a whole plethora

  471. of values,

  472. of desires,

  473. of ambitions,

  474. of logic,

  475. of thinking,

  476. of the God-doesn't-exist

  477. mindset.

  478. And Paul said,

  479. now the world,

  480. ambition,

  481. status,

  482. value,

  483. all these things

  484. that I once pursued,

  485. they no longer

  486. have the entrancing

  487. appeal

  488. that they once

  489. had in my life.

  490. And guess what?

  491. It works both ways.

  492. I have been,

  493. as it were,

  494. untethered

  495. from the world.

  496. I don't recognize

  497. the world.

  498. And it works both ways

  499. because the world

  500. doesn't recognize me.

  501. It thinks I'm bonkers.

  502. But guess what?

  503. I don't care

  504. what the world

  505. thinks of me

  506. and I don't want

  507. what the world

  508. has to offer me.

  509. because I have been

  510. crucified to the world

  511. and the world

  512. has been crucified to me.

  513. And by implication of that,

  514. to drill down

  515. into application.

  516. Friends,

  517. I faced up to this

  518. language this week.

  519. Faced up to the language

  520. this week of that word

  521. crucified.

  522. And faced up to the

  523. many, many ways

  524. that my heart

  525. is still drawn out

  526. to dance the tango

  527. with the world.

  528. I don't know

  529. do you know

  530. what's going to

  531. wean me off that

  532. the best?

  533. It's when we see

  534. the second C

  535. that he talks about here.

  536. It's the word

  537. counts.

  538. What now counts?

  539. What now is the

  540. ultimate thing

  541. in Paul's eyes?

  542. He says,

  543. have you been circumcised

  544. or haven't you

  545. been circumcised?

  546. That's the wrong question.

  547. If that's the question

  548. that you're drawn to,

  549. can I suggest

  550. your horizons

  551. are way too small?

  552. It doesn't matter.

  553. What matters,

  554. verse 15,

  555. is the new creation.

  556. That because of what

  557. Jesus did for you

  558. and because the Spirit

  559. now lives in you

  560. and because God

  561. is now your Father,

  562. you have every single

  563. reason to live.

  564. the old you

  565. has gone.

  566. Have you ever thought

  567. about the fact

  568. that that's what

  569. a baptism service

  570. is?

  571. It is the funeral

  572. service of the old you.

  573. And it is,

  574. if you like,

  575. the birthday party

  576. of the new you.

  577. You are a new person.

  578. God has saved you

  579. and he's called you

  580. out of the darkness

  581. to live in his

  582. wonderful light

  583. and to live in a new

  584. way of life.

  585. A life because of

  586. the Spirit

  587. that is slowly

  588. and gradually

  589. producing marks

  590. of the new age.

  591. It's a wonderful thing

  592. to think about.

  593. Maybe if you're

  594. slightly older

  595. in the Christian life,

  596. many people tell me

  597. that they're struggling

  598. with old age.

  599. Listen,

  600. that might be

  601. absolutely true.

  602. But here's the challenge

  603. is you grow

  604. and experience

  605. the old age.

  606. Why not make it

  607. your thing

  608. to excel

  609. in showing

  610. the evidences

  611. of the new age?

  612. Love,

  613. joy,

  614. peace,

  615. patience,

  616. kindness,

  617. goodness,

  618. faithfulness,

  619. gentleness,

  620. self-control.

  621. Younger people,

  622. if you want to be

  623. a revolutionary today,

  624. remember what it was like

  625. being your age.

  626. You get what I mean?

  627. Leaving university,

  628. at university,

  629. with plans to change

  630. the world,

  631. and then getting

  632. beyond university

  633. and then realizing

  634. that I've got not a lot

  635. to offer.

  636. But if you want to be

  637. a revolutionary today,

  638. don't think fight,

  639. think fruit.

  640. Display in your life

  641. those things.

  642. In our world,

  643. it just seems to be

  644. so angry.

  645. Angry.

  646. Why not excel

  647. in displaying

  648. kindness

  649. and patience

  650. and self-control?

  651. Do you know

  652. what those things are?

  653. They are evidence

  654. that Jesus reigns

  655. in your life.

  656. And as somebody

  657. reminded us

  658. in our home group

  659. last week,

  660. we should be better

  661. as a local church

  662. at spotting

  663. those things

  664. in each other's lives.

  665. You know,

  666. you're really growing

  667. in gentleness.

  668. You're really growing

  669. in goodness.

  670. You're really growing

  671. in faithfulness.

  672. You're really growing

  673. in all these things

  674. that won't make

  675. the news at 10,

  676. but boy,

  677. will they show up

  678. on the new speed of heaven.

  679. The marks of

  680. the new age.

  681. And Alice,

  682. that is why

  683. God has saved you.

  684. So that you would bear

  685. witness to him

  686. by a life

  687. that's been transformed

  688. by him that you are.

  689. And those are the people

  690. he envisages

  691. when Paul says,

  692. all those who walk

  693. by this rule.

  694. That's all those

  695. who put their faith

  696. in Jesus,

  697. who live by that mantra,

  698. by grace alone,

  699. through faith alone,

  700. in Jesus alone.

  701. They are the true

  702. Israel of God.

  703. Listen,

  704. our time is gone.

  705. Let me try and land

  706. the Galatian plane

  707. by leaving you

  708. with one question.

  709. If you've been tracking

  710. through this series,

  711. here's the question.

  712. What's just been

  713. your biggest takeaway?

  714. What's been the biggest

  715. thing that you've been

  716. challenged on,

  717. maybe that you've learned

  718. or you've seen

  719. for the first time?

  720. Can I give you mine

  721. just as we close?

  722. Try and get you

  723. into mine

  724. by telling you

  725. about my weekday routine.

  726. Every day begins

  727. with the school run.

  728. And I play a little game

  729. with myself.

  730. It's called

  731. Parent Phrase

  732. Lingle Bingo.

  733. It begins

  734. after I've taken

  735. great delight

  736. in putting on

  737. the big light

  738. in the kids' bedroom,

  739. the thing that I hated

  740. my mum for,

  741. but now I am so that man.

  742. The questions come.

  743. You can tick them off.

  744. Right?

  745. What do you want

  746. for breakfast?

  747. Have you got a snack?

  748. Where are your shoes?

  749. Where is your water bottle?

  750. What jacket do you want?

  751. Have you done your teeth?

  752. Has mummy done your hair?

  753. Because it's been

  754. made clear to me

  755. that that is not

  756. daddy's gig.

  757. Right?

  758. But there's a new phrase

  759. that's just entered

  760. the top ten.

  761. As we leave the house

  762. and we walk to school

  763. and we cross

  764. the various roads

  765. that we come to

  766. en route

  767. and I find myself

  768. every morning

  769. saying that phrase

  770. see if you can

  771. complete the sentence.

  772. Have you looked

  773. both ways?

  774. Yeah?

  775. Have you looked

  776. both ways?

  777. Every morning

  778. have you looked

  779. both ways?

  780. And the thing

  781. about that phrase

  782. is that there's

  783. pretty good advice

  784. for the Christian life.

  785. Because this is how

  786. Galatians has

  787. challenged me

  788. and invited me.

  789. See when it points

  790. in your life

  791. you're struggling

  792. and you maybe

  793. don't know

  794. what's up ahead.

  795. You're feeling a bit weary.

  796. You're feeling a wee bit tired.

  797. Your life story

  798. is maybe lost

  799. and you think

  800. I've lost sight

  801. of the big story.

  802. Friends, here's the thing.

  803. Look both ways.

  804. In that word

  805. new creation

  806. that's what it's

  807. inviting us to do.

  808. Look both ways.

  809. Here's what I mean.

  810. Look back

  811. to the cross

  812. and see the place

  813. where Jesus secured

  814. your forgiveness

  815. and won for you

  816. that newness of life.

  817. That empty tomb.

  818. Look back the way

  819. and see it all.

  820. You didn't earn that.

  821. I didn't earn that.

  822. He won that for us

  823. on the cross.

  824. He secured our place.

  825. He did it there.

  826. Look backwards.

  827. Look to the cross.

  828. But don't stop there.

  829. Look forward

  830. to the new creation.

  831. Alice has mentioned

  832. that it's great.

  833. It's great when someone else

  834. does your sermon for you

  835. before you've even got up here.

  836. The new age,

  837. the place where

  838. righteousness dwells,

  839. where we will be

  840. with God,

  841. where sin will be

  842. a distant memory,

  843. where there will be

  844. no more death,

  845. where tears will be

  846. wiped away.

  847. Friends,

  848. we live our lives

  849. between these two

  850. great bookends

  851. that Jesus

  852. has won

  853. for us.

  854. And these two things

  855. will not change.

  856. So when I'm

  857. struggling,

  858. when I'm working out

  859. what I'm doing

  860. in my life,

  861. I look up and I see

  862. these two bookends

  863. and the invitation

  864. in the middle

  865. as we wait for Jesus

  866. to come back

  867. is to know

  868. that he's not left us.

  869. We have his spirit.

  870. And what is the spirit

  871. doing?

  872. It is drawing

  873. out our hearts

  874. to say no

  875. to the old us

  876. and yes

  877. to the new us.

  878. I am a new creation.

  879. I am a new creation.

  880. So friends,

  881. look both ways.

  882. Look both ways.

  883. And maybe even

  884. this morning

  885. is the day,

  886. the morning,

  887. where you put your faith

  888. in this

  889. Jesus for yourself.

  890. Why don't I pray?

  891. Father,

  892. we thank you this morning

  893. for everything

  894. that we've heard

  895. and sung

  896. and read.

  897. Father,

  898. thank you for this

  899. wonderful testimony

  900. about the transforming

  901. grace

  902. of Jesus Christ.

  903. And so,

  904. Father,

  905. I pray maybe

  906. for many of us here

  907. who are struggling.

  908. Maybe we are doubting.

  909. Maybe we're weary.

  910. Maybe we're even thinking

  911. about tapping out.

  912. Lord,

  913. may this morning

  914. by your spirit

  915. as your word

  916. has gone forth,

  917. may you encourage us

  918. and challenge us

  919. in the perfect way.

  920. Lord,

  921. thank you that

  922. it is true

  923. that all

  924. the books

  925. in the world

  926. couldn't tell

  927. the glory

  928. of your son,

  929. Jesus.

  930. And so,

  931. Father,

  932. we look to him

  933. this morning

  934. and we pray

  935. that you'd be with us

  936. just as we close

  937. our time now

  938. in Jesus' name

  939. we ask.

  940. Amen.
