  1. Chapter 10, second Samuel chapter 10.

    2 Samuel 10 chapter mention

  2. Amazing to me that the god of Heaven would be willing to

  3. stoop. As low as Humanity, the fact

  4. that Jesus Christ was willing as the Son of God, to become the

  5. son of man and to come down and not just that he was willing to

  6. come down to this earth and live with men.

  7. Not that he was just willing to be born of a as a baby and all

  8. of those other things but the fact that he was willing to die

  9. on the cross for my sins. But an amazing thing.

  10. The fact that he knew that almost 2,000 years later I was

  11. going to come along and I was Going to be a sinner and I was

  12. going to need somebody that can save me and the fact that Jesus

  13. Christ, knowing that I was going to sin against him.

  14. Still died on the cross for me as an amazing thing.

  15. And then on top of that, the fact that God as God of the

  16. universe and boy, I don't know if you've ever seen some of

  17. these things on Facebook or other places where, you know,

  18. they start to kind of try to describe how massive the

  19. universe is and and honestly they still have no idea how big

  20. the universe is. And the fact that there are just

  21. galaxies upon in galaxies upon galaxies and just unlimited

  22. number of stars in and planets and all kinds of stuff out

  23. there. And the think the fact that as

  24. far as we know, this is the only place in the entire universe

  25. where there is life. And God loved us so much that he

  26. was willing to send his only son to this tiny little dot of a

  27. place in the middle of nothing. And save us.

  28. And then on top of that, the fact that God allows us to come

  29. before him not, but not to go through some priests or some man

  30. or have to go through Mary or any of these other people, but

  31. that we can go directly to God ourselves and meet with him

  32. every single day. And the fact that God as the

  33. creator of the universe and as the ruler of the universe is

  34. willing to stop whatever he's doing and come and meet with me.

  35. That's an amazing thing. That's an amazing.

  36. Thing that God would do that for us.

  37. Second, Samuel chapter ten doesn't really have anything to

  38. do with our passage this morning, but I just thought,

  39. it's an amazing thought that God would do that for us.

  40. But here in second, Samuel chapter 10 David and the people

  41. of Israel really are facing, this really, it's an undesired

  42. conflict. You know, there was a lot of

  43. fighting that that happened. Israel had to go out to battle a

  44. lot, but David was not looking for a fight, David was not

  45. looking to defend anything. He wasn't looking to try to take

  46. anything, but this fight came to him and kind of in a weird.

  47. And way the king of the children of Ammon died and David had sent

  48. Messengers to the King's son to convey his condolences and the

  49. princes of am and got together and concocted this story in

  50. their mind saying, you know what, David's not doing this.

  51. Because he's trying to show a sympathy.

  52. David's, not doing this because he's trying to be our friend.

  53. He's doing it because he's sending these guys to be spies

  54. in our land and he's going to use that information that they

  55. bring back to then come and attack us.

  56. And so those princes of the The children of Ammon captured the

  57. Israelites who were coming to give their condolences and they

  58. humiliated him in the worst way possible.

  59. They cut their beards in half, they cut their clothes directly

  60. in half and then sent them back home.

  61. And of course, I mean the ultimate humiliation and David

  62. heard about this. And so David goes out and meets

  63. them where they are so that they didn't have to show themselves

  64. in front of the people. And he said, you guys, you just

  65. stay here until your beards grow back and tell you everything is

  66. till everything looks normal and then you can come back to Israel

  67. but But obviously, that set some things in motion and that brings

  68. us to verse number 6. I love the way the Bible says

  69. this and when the children of a.m. and saw that they stank

  70. before, David the children of Ammon sent and hired the syrians

  71. of Beth Rahab and the syrians of Zaba, 20,000 footman, and of

  72. King Maca, 1,000 men in ish table 12,000 men.

  73. And when David heard of it, he sent joab and all the host of

  74. The Mighty Men, and the children of Ammon came out and put the

  75. battle in Array at the entering, in of the gate in the syrians of

  76. Zaba. Andrei haben ish table in

  77. Mexico, were by themselves in the field when Joy of saw that

  78. the Want of the battle was against him before and behind.

  79. He chose of all the men of all the choice, men of Israel, and

  80. put them in Array against the syrians and the rest of the

  81. people. He delivered into the hands of

  82. abishai, his brother that he might put them in Array against

  83. the children of Ammon. So the children of Ammon gets

  84. scared and they say now we've really done it.

  85. Now we're in hot water. Now we better prepare because

  86. David's not going to take too kindly to this.

  87. And so they went out and they Enlisted the help of the syrians

  88. and they said, hey this battle is coming.

  89. I know you're an enemy of Israel to this is a Eight opportunity,

  90. we need your help and they hired thousands and thousands of these

  91. foot soldiers to go out there and help them with that battle.

  92. And, of course, now that required that they were gonna

  93. have to face the enemy on two fronts, there was the front of

  94. the ammonites, and there was a front of the syrians and now

  95. they're in front of them and they're behind them and so joab.

  96. Deploys. His men he meets his brother the

  97. leader of the other force and he gave the gave him this

  98. admonition in verse number 12, Well actually we back up to

  99. verse number 11. He said if the syrians be too

  100. strong for me than thou shalt help me but if the children of

  101. Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee

  102. and then he gives him this. Admonition be of good courage.

  103. And let us play the men for our people and for the cities of our

  104. God, and the Lord do that. Which seemeth him.

  105. Good. See, we're in a battle today on

  106. a lot of fronts and it's being fought in a lot of different

  107. ways. We're facing spiritual battles,

  108. were facing political battles were facing emotional battles, a

  109. whole lot more, and there's a lot of That we are, that we are

  110. facing this battle on, but one of the most important battles,

  111. that we face is on the home front, in our homes, there's a

  112. battle that's raging in every single home.

  113. And I'm not saying there's all kinds of fighting going on or

  114. you're pulling out the swords every night and duking it out.

  115. But there's a battle that is facing us in our homes.

  116. The devil wants to destroy your home, we're in a battle for the

  117. spiritual survival of our families.

  118. Do you realize that the devil wants to destroy your home?

  119. It would be great if everything just went smoothly and all your

  120. kids were born angels and they stayed that way for the rest of

  121. their lives, right? Be great.

  122. If you married the, the woman of your dreams and then you floated

  123. on clouds and unicorns until the day that you die.

  124. But it doesn't usually happen that way, right?

  125. The truth is, the flesh comes along spurred on by the devil

  126. and and he fights against everything that is good in our

  127. homes, it's not a battle. You were looking out to fight

  128. but the fight comes to your front door.

  129. Now, most men, The battle to Satan for for a couple different

  130. reasons. A number one, is that a lot of

  131. times, they send their wives to fight the battle on the front

  132. lines or number two, they just they just roll over and pull up

  133. the White Flag. You know what?

  134. It's a battle. I'm probably not going to win

  135. anyway so you guys just go do what you want to do, and that's

  136. the end of it. And we just we just turn our

  137. families over to Satan and he is going to destroy them.

  138. The Bible says that in First Peter, the devil as a roaring

  139. lion walketh about seeking whom, he may push around a little bit

  140. seeking whom he may, you know, cause the trip every now and

  141. then. No.

  142. The Bible says, the devil is seeking whom he may devour.

  143. He wants to destroy your home, that's not how God designed us

  144. to be as the leaders of our home.

  145. Maybe you didn't ask for that position, maybe it was one of

  146. those things where I didn't realize what I was getting into

  147. when I got married and had kids, this is not my personality.

  148. This is not my, this is not my type of thing, I don't do that

  149. but you are the leader in your home and you have a

  150. responsibility to fight. For what God gave you joab as

  151. the leader of men turning to his brother and shared an admonition

  152. with him that I think will be very helpful for us in our homes

  153. to us as men and fathers today. So I want to take just a couple

  154. minutes and I say that I mean it's going to be a shorter

  155. message this morning but I want to take a few minutes this

  156. morning and share with you three instructions that are given in

  157. this admonition that will help us as we stand in the battle.

  158. That's what I want to talk about today.

  159. Ending in the battle. How can we stand up against what

  160. the devil is trying to do in our country?

  161. How can we stand up against what the devil is trying to do in our

  162. homes? Joe have gives us a great

  163. admonition. We're going to look at it this

  164. morning but let's pray. Father, we love you, give me.

  165. Thank you so much for how good you are to us.

  166. Thank you for an opportunity to be here.

  167. Thank you for each of the father's.

  168. I thank you for each of the men that are here in this church.

  169. I do pray that you would help us to be the leaders that you need

  170. us. And want us to be so that we

  171. might lead our families in a direction that is in a Godly

  172. spiritual Direction and away from the things of the Devil is

  173. trying to do in our homes that would destroy any chance of

  174. seeing them go on to serve you with their lives.

  175. And God, I pray that you give us something from you this morning.

  176. Well, thank you for what you do in Jesus name.

  177. Amen. I want you to keep your finger

  178. there in second Samuel chapter 10, or maybe put a bookmark or

    2 Samuel 10 chapter mention

  179. something, because we're going to come back to it a couple

  180. different times. But you can turn over to Joshua

  181. chapter number one, because the first thing that I think we're

  182. given in this admonition is to take heart.

  183. The first part of verse number 12 says Be Of good courage.

  184. Be of good courage. Don't be discouraged by the

  185. situation. Hey, does it seem sometimes?

  186. Like all of your work is for nothing.

  187. I know it does. Does it seems sometimes like we

  188. sacrifice and pass on things that would be enjoyable for us,

  189. enjoyable to the flesh so that we can give way to the Holy

  190. Spirit and seems like we get nothing for it.

  191. I know it feels that way. Sometimes, don't be discouraged

  192. by the situation. Joshua said this in Joshua

    Joshua 1 chapter mention

  193. chapter 1 and verse 9. Actually, the Lord is speaking.

  194. The Joshua and telling him this have not, I commanded thee, be

  195. strong and of a good courage. Be not Afraid.

  196. Neither be thou dismayed for the Lord thy God is with thee.

  197. Whithersoever thou goest. He's saying, hey take, Heart,

  198. Take courage Gods with you in that battle that you're

  199. fighting. You can turn over there if you

  200. want to. But first Chronicles chapter 28,

    1 Chronicles 28 chapter mention

  201. David is getting ready to pass off of the scene and and as much

  202. as he wanted to build the temple for God and for the for this,

  203. holy place to be for God. God said, David, you're a man of

  204. war, you've shed blood. You cannot be the one that

  205. builds my temple but your son Solomon will be and so God David

  206. as he's getting ready to pass off the torch so to speak from

  207. from from himself and from everything that he was able to

  208. accomplish for God to his son Solomon.

  209. He says this in first Chronicles chapter 28 verse number 20 David

    1 Chronicles 28 chapter mention

  210. said to Solomon his son be strong and of a good courage and

  211. do it fear not nor be dismayed for the Lord.

  212. God, even my God will be with thee.

  213. He will not fail thee, nor forsake thee, until thou has

  214. finished. All the work for the service of

  215. the house of the Lord. Hey, take heart!

  216. God is with you. God wants to see you succeed in

  217. that battle, God is for you. And I don't mean that in a in a

  218. in a way of a Prosperity Gospel type.

  219. You just, you just keep serving God and everything's going to be

  220. fine though. There are going to be battles,

  221. right? There are going to be struggles,

  222. but God is for you in the fight, take heart.

  223. Be of good courage. Don't don't don't shrink back.

  224. Don't get discouraged in that battle.

  225. There's a legend and obviously, it's just a legend that Satan

  226. decided he was going to get rid of a few of his tools.

  227. And so he arranged in an auction and there was all kinds of

  228. things that he had in that auction.

  229. He had envy and deceit and mouse, and sensuality, and

  230. enmity, and thoughtlessness, and a lot of other tools that Satan

  231. had used successful, and he had those priced very low.

  232. But one piece that was Mark very high was labeled discouragement.

  233. And one of the bidders said why do you want so much for this

  234. tool? And that tool Satan told him has

  235. been my most useful tool. He said you can you can see that

  236. it has more aware than the rest used to.

  237. It's used as a wedge to get into a man's mind when all of the

  238. other tools fail and that tool was priced so high that nobody

  239. was able to buy that tool of Destruction.

  240. Courage, men, and so Satan continues to use that tool to

  241. this day. Obviously, that's just a legend,

  242. but dr. Jerry Falwell said, I've never

  243. known God to use a discouraged person.

  244. Hey, I tell I tell people all the time.

  245. Hey, Pastor, don't get discouraged and I appreciate it.

  246. But listen, I'm not discouraged disappointed sometimes but it's

  247. hard to be discouraged. When, you know, who's on our

  248. side it's hard to be discouraged when we're fighting the battle

  249. when God, plus no one makes a majority, right?

  250. And so if you join God's, Side, you are in the majority already.

  251. What do we have to be discouraged?

  252. About what do we have to be afraid of?

  253. There is nothing to fear on this front.

  254. God is for us, God is fighting for us, and he wants us to win

  255. that battle. God has great plans for you and

  256. your family. The Bible says in Jeremiah

    Jeremiah 29:11

  257. 29:11, for, I know the thoughts that I think toward, you says,

  258. the Lord thoughts of peace, and not of evil.

  259. To give you an expected end. He's got a path that he wants

  260. every one of us to walk. The problem is he doesn't show

  261. us the beginning and End of the path.

  262. And so we start walking down that path and we can't see, but

  263. a couple steps in front of us and we get scared.

  264. And we get discouraging. So we turn around and we run.

  265. And God says, hey that's this is the path that I have for you.

  266. Keep walking down that path. You keep going on that in my

  267. plans that I have for your life. He's got a plan for you.

  268. He's got a plan for your children.

  269. He has a plan for your family and he wants to use you.

  270. He wants to use us. Don't let the devil discourage.

  271. You don't look around the world and what's going on in and let

  272. him distract you from this. Things, which is your primary

  273. job of pointing your family to Jesus Christ.

  274. Turn over to Psalm 27 boy, there's lots of Psalms that we

  275. can look at. I just want to point out a

  276. couple of them to you this morning.

  277. They're all right. In the same place.

  278. I think it'd be easy for you to turn to him but some 27.

  279. And verse number 13 says this, I had fainted, unless I had

  280. believed to see the goodness of the Lord, in the land of the

  281. living verse 14. So, I'm 27, wait on the Lord be

  282. of good courage and he shall strengthen thine heart.

  283. Wait, I say on the Lord and that's one of the problems that

  284. we have. And I'm not going to get off on

  285. this this morning. But one of the problems is we

  286. step outside of God's will because we're impatient.

  287. Why is God not moving? We got to do something, we gotta

  288. move. We gotta, we gotta go.

  289. Do this like we jump on Out of God's will because we're trying

  290. to do it in our own strength. Hey, God is for you be patient.

  291. Wait on him, take courage, take heart.

  292. He is working. You just got to let him do that

  293. work. Hey, forward by faith.

  294. That's our theme this year, right?

  295. When we, when I set that as a theme, I didn't realize how much

  296. he was really going to put that to the test, right?

  297. We're trying to move forward as a church and it's by faith,

  298. because it could come tomorrow that we get our 60 day notice.

  299. And we got to find a place. And they, we might Be meeting in

  300. the tent on my property. So, we're right, God gave us two

  301. and a half acres. It's nice because we cleared it

  302. all out, and it's a perfect spot for a tent in a bunch of cars.

  303. And that might be where we're meeting for a couple months.

  304. I don't know. I don't know what God has for

  305. us, but we got to go forward by faith and I'm not worried about

  306. it, you know, why? Because God is on our side, God

  307. wants us to succeed, and I was just telling somebody this

  308. yesterday, this is not my church.

  309. This is not your church, it's his church.

  310. What do I have to worry about God?

  311. It's your problem. You're One that has to find a

  312. place for you or church to me, not me.

  313. This is in your hands, right? What do I have to worry about?

  314. And the same is true when it comes to our families.

  315. God wants your family to succeed spiritually.

  316. God, want your kids to grow up and live for him?

  317. What happened? So often is that we're trying to

  318. direct them. We're trying to push them where

  319. we want them to be, instead of saying God they're yours, you

  320. take care of them, you do with them, what you want to do with

  321. them, right? He says this in Psalm 31 just a

  322. couple pages over may be on the same page for you but some 31 In

  323. verse 23. Oh, love the Lord all.

  324. Ye Saints for the Lord. Preserve is the faithful and

  325. plentifully reward. It's a proud doer.

  326. Be of good courage and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye

  327. that hope in the Lord, I know things don't look good in our

  328. world today and know things are not easy, but take heart be of

  329. good courage. But the second thing and you can

  330. turn back over to the second Samuel chapter 10.

    2 Samuel 10 chapter mention

  331. The second part of verse 12, he says be of good courage but he

  332. says and let us play them in for our people and for the cities of

  333. our God. I think what he's saying here is

  334. toil hard. Take, heart, but toil hard.

  335. What I think he's saying here is do your best.

  336. Don't give less than 100% of your effort.

  337. You may not always feel like you have it all together.

  338. You may not always feel like being the one to make the

  339. decisions and leading your family.

  340. You may not always feel like being the one To fight these

  341. battles that are going to show up in your home and I'm not, and

  342. I'm not saying in an argumentative way and everything

  343. else the devil is going to fight in a lot of fronts, and you may

  344. just, you know, it's just not, that's not my personality.

  345. I'm not a fighter. I don't like confrontation, I

  346. don't like controversy and I don't either, but, but you just

  347. have to play the man, God, created men to work.

  348. That's how that's who God designed us to be and how God

  349. designed us to be. And I'm telling you what?

  350. I'm so glad God made me a man. I couldn't be a woman.

  351. I don't know how these people Cross over and become women.

  352. I really don't because I would be a horrible woman.

  353. I can tell you that much but I'm glad God made me a man, you

  354. know? And and, and God gives us that

  355. desire. What he made you to be who you

  356. who he wanted you to be right? The Bible says, in Genesis male

  357. and female created, he them, right?

  358. He didn't create someone to be a half, male and half female, and

  359. a male, who should have been a female and a female, who should

  360. have been a male and all those other things, he created you,

  361. who he wanted you to be. And I gotta go find my identity.

  362. I gotta, I gotta do all this other kind of stuff.

  363. You find your identity in Jesus Christ, and when you find him,

  364. you know, exactly who he created you to be, you don't have to go,

  365. try to be something else. You don't try to manufacture

  366. something, you don't have to try to change something, God created

  367. you who he wanted you to be. And if he created you a man, he

  368. created you to be a leader. And if you don't like leading,

  369. I'm sorry. He created you to be that way.

  370. Play the man he says I don't know why he told abishai that

  371. and maybe I wish. I was saying, I don't know if I

  372. want to do this or not. He said, listen brother.

  373. You got to just go play a man. You got to go be a man for your

  374. P, be of good courage. And at least pretend to be a man

  375. in front of these guys. Are you going to make them

  376. scared to write? But toil hard.

  377. He tells them first, we have to toil hard in prayer.

  378. See a man that's not praying for his family as setting up his

  379. family to fail. And I know prayers hard work.

  380. That's why. So few people do it, even as a

  381. pastor, I find it hard to pray. Sometimes, you know,

  382. circumstances, come up made. Sometimes you don't feel like

  383. praying when there's a lot of pressure, but it takes a lot of

  384. time and effort and concentration, right?

  385. I kneel down to pray and, and I don't know if it's the devil or

  386. what, but all kinds of thoughts come into my head and oh, oh

  387. man, it's something I need to do.

  388. Oh I need to write that down so I don't forget that in all I got

  389. to do this and all that and it takes work to concentrate on,

  390. praying takes Work to concentrate on praying for your

  391. family. I don't think there's anything

  392. scarier to the devil than a man that's on his knees in prayer

  393. before God, we sing that we sing the chorus, I'm a soldier

  394. winning Battles, by fighting on my knees.

  395. Do you believe that? And if you believe that then are

  396. you doing it? We have to toil hard in prayer

  397. but also we have to toil hard in example.

  398. And I know that's probably not the most elegant eloquent way to

  399. say that. But what I mean by that is you

  400. have to work hard, to be an example to those in your house.

  401. Turn over the First Kings, chapter 15, when you are the

    1 Kings 15 chapter mention

  402. leader. When you are, the example, you

  403. don't get a day off taking a day off, makes you a hypocrite and

  404. there's nothing hypocrisies. See, is the quickest way to send

  405. your children, right down the road to the Devil's Playground.

  406. You want to see your children off into the world and never

  407. step foot in church. Again, be one thing at church.

  408. And another thing at home, me one thing when you're around

  409. people who expect you to act a certain way and be another thing

  410. at home, that's that is the quickest way to send your

  411. children right down the road to the Devils house.

  412. Hypocrisy is an excuse that a lot of people use about.

  413. I don't, I'm not going to church.

  414. Those people are a bunch of Hypocrites.

  415. Hey, there's Hypocrites everywhere and there are lots of

  416. Hypocrites in the church, but that's not an excuse for you to

  417. not be in church. It's not an excuse for you to

  418. not be in God's house. It's not an excuse for you to

  419. just give up on the things of God.

  420. You don't be a hypocrite and pray that the guy next to you is

  421. not going to be a hypocrite and pretty soon.

  422. You have a whole church full of people who aren't Hypocrites and

  423. who really are trying to serve God.

  424. But your kids see you you are the example whether you want to

  425. be an example or not. And they are watching you and

  426. they see how you are a church, and they see how you are at

  427. home. They hear the things that you

  428. say you should be doing and the way that you should be living

  429. and then they see the things that you watch.

  430. They hear the things that you listen to You are an example,

  431. whether you want to be an example or not?

  432. Are you a good example or are you a bad example?

  433. And it takes a lot of work to be a good example, but we have to

  434. work hard at it. I want to show you one verse of

  435. a great passage here in First Kings, chapter 15 verse 11.

    1 Kings 15:11

  436. And I just, I don't have time to set the whole thing up, but you

  437. can understand exactly what we're seeing here.

  438. The Bible says, in First Kings chapter 15 and verse 11 and they

    1 Kings 15 chapter mention

  439. said did that, which was right in the eyes of the Lord as did

  440. David. His father, let me ask you a

  441. question and I want you to chew on for a little while.

  442. What it be a blessing. Or a curse.

  443. To have your son grow up in be exactly like you.

  444. But it'd be a blessing or a curse to have your son grow up

  445. and be exactly like you David could say well I want my son to

  446. be like me I made some mistakes. Wish I did but I want my son to

  447. grow up and be like me and look what God says in verse 11 ASA.

  448. Did that which was right in the eyes of the Lord adds did David

  449. his father. The story told of a father who

  450. spent time every day at the tavern and he always wanted his

  451. son never to drink. Don't ever drink son and he'd

  452. walk out. Go to the tavern almost every

  453. single day and one snowy afternoon as he walked out, the

  454. front door and started to make his way toward that Tavern, he

  455. noticed that his son was walking in those footsteps that he was

  456. making in the snow. And that man said, you know

  457. what, something hit me, right? Then he turned around, he went

  458. back. And he picked up his son and he

  459. hugged him and he never set foot in that Tavern again.

  460. Whether you like it or not, whether you want to be or not,

  461. you are an example and you have to work hard to make sure you

  462. are a good one. Young people are watching you.

  463. The admonition back in second, Samuel chapter 10 was to take

  464. heart, to toil hard. And lastly, trust him trust God.

  465. the last part of verse number 12 says and the Lord do that which

  466. seemeth him good, you know, a job was saying We can take

  467. courage, we can be of good courage.

  468. We can play the man for our people, but at the end of the

  469. day, it's all in God's hands. At the end of the day, just

  470. trust him to do. What's best?

  471. That's leaving the results to him.

  472. We can do our best, not to get discouraged, we can do our best

  473. to play the men and work hard, but we just have to trust God

  474. that he'll bring the results. Martin Luther spent three days.

  475. One on one time when he was going through a just a dark dark

  476. time in his life black depression over something that

  477. it had gone wrong. And on the third day, his wife

  478. came downstairs. She and she was dressed in

  479. mourning clothes. She was dressed in all black,

  480. she had her face covered. She had a little veil over her

  481. face and And Luther hadn't even heard that anybody died.

  482. So he asked her, she said he asked her.

  483. That question, who died? Who's dead?

  484. She said, God. Martin Luther obviously was

  485. taking a back. He said, what do you mean God's

  486. dead? God can't die.

  487. She looked at her husband and she said, well the way you've

  488. been acting I was sure he had. You know, sometimes we just need

  489. to trust God and stop acting like God's Dead, God's not dead,

  490. right? God, still working in your life

  491. if you allow him to do it, God still on your side.

  492. If you join his side, right? God still wants you to succeed.

  493. There's a lot of times when it just doesn't seem like doing it.

  494. God's way is working. Turn over to Psalm 68.

  495. I think often it seems like the world and the Flesh and the

  496. devil are so powerful that there's no way that we can win.

  497. but psalm 16 verse 12 says this, Through God, we shall do

  498. valiantly for. He it is that shall tread down

  499. our enemies and I'm telling you is the same thing that I said

  500. just a few minutes ago is that we try to do this in our own

  501. strength and we get discouraged, we try to do it on our own

  502. power. We try to finagle things to make

  503. them work out the way that we want them to work out.

  504. When what God is saying is just turn it over to me.

  505. I told this to the young people when I was, when we were at camp

  506. this past week, or at the Family Camp, and I had an opportunity

  507. to do a devotion for, for the, for one of the Tonight directed

  508. specifically to a lot of the young people that were in there

  509. and I gave them some of my testimony and essentially what I

  510. had done with my life, but hey, I wonder did you God's will?

  511. I wanted God to be pleased with my life, but I had all my plans

  512. laid out and I was giving God, a piece of paper.

  513. And I said, God sign this at the bottom so that I can tell

  514. everybody. This is your will for my life.

  515. This is what I want to do. This is where I want to go.

  516. This is who I want to marry. This is what I want to

  517. accomplish sign it so that I can tell everybody this is what you

  518. want me. To do with my life.

  519. And God threw a wrench in my plans and changed everything.

  520. And essentially what I came to the conclusion was that God was

  521. not looking for me to give him a piece of paper with everything

  522. that I wanted to do. So he could sign it.

  523. He wanted a blank piece of paper with my signature at the bottom

  524. so he could fill in all the details for my life.

  525. He just wants to have control. He just wants us to turn

  526. everything over to him and I'm telling you this God has written

  527. a story of my life that I never would have imagined that I could

  528. write. I never would have written it

  529. the way that he has. I'm so glad that he took the

  530. pen. I'm glad I gave him the pain to

  531. my life and let him write the story because there's so many

  532. things that would never be what they are today.

  533. I would never be as happy as I am today.

  534. Had a God not gotten the pain of my life, but so many of us as

  535. God is trying to pull that pain and say, hey, I want to write a,

  536. I want to write a story that that you don't even comprehend

  537. right now. We said, no, it's my pain.

  538. Give me that and God's trying to pull it away from us.

  539. And he says, all right fine. Go write your own story story

  540. that I could write for you is way better than you can even

  541. imagine. And so we write our little drab

  542. details about how our life should go.

  543. And all this is so wonderful, not knowing that God had

  544. something that was 10 times beyond what we could even ask or

  545. think. I just want you to turn it over

  546. to him. Oh my family is I got this

  547. struggles with this kid and I got the show goes with that kid,

  548. and I just don't know what to do.

  549. I'm pulling my hair out and give it to God.

  550. Turn it over to him, stop trying to do it in your own strength.

  551. Stop trying to be the manipulator.

  552. Stop trying to write the story. Let God do it through God, we

  553. shall do valiantly. He says, for he, it is that

  554. shall tread down our enemies over in.

  555. First John, chapter 4 and verse. Number 4, he says you are of God

    1 John 4 chapter mention

  556. little children have have have overcome them because greater is

  557. he that is in you than he that is in the world.

  558. I want you to look at one last passage in John chapter 16.

    John 16 chapter mention

  559. Trust him. Let God handle it.

  560. Because I'll tell you this. He's a whole lot better at being

  561. God than we are. Todd's a whole lot better at

  562. being God than I am. We try to play God a lot, don't

  563. we are? We've never say I'm more

  564. powerful than God. I can handle, God, should have

  565. done this. We would never say that a lot,

  566. but sometimes in our mind, all, man, if only God had Right.

  567. He's a whole lot better at being God than we are, but the Bible

  568. says this in John, 16:33 these things I have spoken unto you

  569. that in me, ye might have peace the world ye shall have

  570. tribulation, that's not May, or might it shall?

  571. That's a guarantee. You're going to face difficult

  572. times in the world. Ye shall have tribulation, but

  573. Be of good cheer. I've overcome the world.

  574. So he's our father. If you're saved and you can rest

  575. assured of the fact that he wants the best for us.

  576. He wants the best for his children, he wants to use us if

  577. we let him. I heard a story about a group of

  578. botanist that notice through a pair of binoculars are very rare

  579. and beautiful flower. That was laying deep in the

  580. Ravine and this young boy was watching nearby in the scientist

  581. told them that they'd pay him very well for a young boy if he

  582. had agreed to be lowered over the edge of that, Cliff to

  583. retrieve that flower. The young boy, I thought about

  584. it for a minute, he said, hang on, I'll be right back.

  585. A short time later. He turned he was followed by a

  586. gray-haired man and he went up to those botanist in the boy

  587. said to the botanist. He said I'll go over that cliff

  588. and get that flower. If this man holds the Rope, he's

  589. my dad. And you know, honestly, that's

  590. just what we need to do with. God is our heavenly father.

  591. Well, I don't know if God can hold the Rope or not.

  592. I just don't know if I can trust him.

  593. Right? We would never say that out

  594. loud, but we say that with our actions a whole lot.

  595. Well, I'll just doesn't understand the situation that

  596. I'm in with my family. He just doesn't know it sounds.

  597. So foolish to say it out loud, but we live that way.

  598. So often. Right often we find ourselves in

  599. a battle that we never desired. Perhaps we're facing an enemy on

  600. more than one front simultaneously.

  601. David found that when he sent joab and abishai out.

  602. To fight against the ammonites and syrians.

  603. George gave some great admonition.

  604. Hey, I'm shy take heart. Be of good courage.

  605. They have a shy God put us in the position of leaders.

  606. I know you didn't ask for it and I didn't ask for it.

  607. But this is where we find ourselves.

  608. Let's go out and play the man. Let's toil hard.

  609. Let's give it everything we got. But at the end of the day, we

  610. have to trust him. We just have to trust him and

  611. all will be well, you read the rest of that story.

  612. I don't have time to do that. In second Samuel chapter 10,

    2 Samuel 10 chapter mention

  613. this morning which you read through the rest of that story.

  614. Enjoy the knavish. I did very well and it came down

  615. to the point where the ammonites and the syrians became the

  616. slaves of the Israelites for a long time.

  617. After that, hey, they did their best but they left the rest of

  618. God. And there's a there's a there's

  619. a delicate balance between faith and works and I find myself in

  620. that position a lot. God expects us to work, but he

  621. also expects us to have faith and where is that balance?

  622. How much do you work? And how much of it is Faith?

  623. But we're looking, we're looking for a building right now.

  624. How much do we get out there and pound the streets?

  625. And go out there and try to find a place for us.

  626. Is just stepping back and saying, God is in your hands at

  627. your church. We need a building, right?

  628. I think he expects us to do both.

  629. Right? Hey Faith and works.

  630. Go hand in hand, right? We trust God but then we have to

  631. go out and do the work we work. But we trust God.

  632. They go hand-in-hand and the more we trust God the more we'll

  633. know exactly the amount of work that we should put into it.

  634. The more we work, the more work we put into it, the more I think

  635. God says, hey, they're serious about this thing.

  636. Let me help him on the back side, right?

  637. Faith and works. They go hand in hand.

  638. But God expects us as Christians and especially as men who are

  639. leading homes and his men who are in a church that's trying to

  640. make a difference in this community, we just have to trust

  641. God. We got to take courage, got a

  642. toil hard and we just got to trust it.

  643. And you know what, got to work, all things out for us.

  644. God wants you to succeed in your family.

  645. He's not fighting against you. We're fighting against him.

  646. All right. If God had his way every kid

  647. would grow up and be the greatest Christian, every kid

  648. would grow up and do what his will is for their life.

  649. Every kid would grow up and serve him.

  650. We just need to get out of her own way.

  651. Like I do that work. Let's pray.

  652. Father, we love you. Give me.

  653. Thank you so much for your goodness to us.

  654. Thank you so much for an opportunity to preach your word

  655. this morning and to hear your word this morning.

  656. I do, pray that if there is somebody in here, that's

  657. discouraged this morning because they're not seeing things go the

  658. way that they planned or hoped. That you'd encourage them that

  659. they'd be able to take heart, knowing the fact that you want

  660. them to succeed, you want them to win the battle, you want them

  661. to win the fight. but it should help us to do our part and work

  662. hard but got at the end of the day I pray that you'd help us to

  663. turn it all over to you and we just trust you trust the word of

  664. God, trust the plan of God, For our lives.

  665. And so we have children. I pray that that we would not

  666. lose one child to the world here this morning and I pray that

  667. every single child and every single family in this church

  668. would grow up and do your will for their lives.

  669. I pray that they'd find the ones that you want them to marry.

  670. I pray that they would know exactly what it is that you want

  671. them to do and they do it. That's what you want.

  672. That's your heart. Now, I pray that you would help

  673. us as men and fathers to lead our families in a Direction

  674. that's pleasing to you. And where things need to change.

  675. I pray that you give us the courage in the boldness to

  676. change it. Well, thank you for what you do

  677. in Jesus name. Amen.
