  1. 1st Timothy Chapter 3 is that what I wrote up their brother?

  2. Josh? Hebrews 13.

  3. I don't know why I had that down there.

  4. We're going to get to Hebrews 13 but I think I think I jumped

  5. ahead in my notes that's why I started.

  6. I didn't think that I'd written First Timothy 13 or first

  7. Timothy First Timothy 3, but that is where I would like you

  8. to go first Timothy chapter 3. All right.

    1 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  9. We talked last week, actually, before we before we even get

  10. into what we talked about last week we need to step back and

  11. review our our acronym for the Baptist, distinctives and so.

  12. Well same together. All right what are they start

  13. with B? Biblical Authority.

  14. The Bible is the final Authority.

  15. A autonomy. Every local church has the

  16. ability to decide what it wants to do in that local church

  17. without some head. Over the top of that church.

  18. P priesthood of the believer, we don't have to go through a

  19. priest. We can go directly to God

  20. ourselves right T to ordinances and what are the two ordinances

  21. Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Very good.

  22. I individual. So Liberty s-save church

  23. membership, very good. And then I mentioned Artie last

  24. week, which is to office is very good and we talked about the

  25. first one last week which was deacons very good deacons.

  26. And so I I mentioned this last week as well that that probably

  27. within this year we're going to be ordaining some deacons in our

  28. church. And so I took a little bit

  29. longer on that than I normally would or then then I had in the

  30. past but there's still plenty more that we could talk about

  31. what that before. Just for the sake of time, we

  32. spent one week on it and went over a lot of different

  33. qualifications and I'm going to piggyback off of that a little

  34. bit. Because a lot of the

  35. qualifications for a pastor are the same as some of the

  36. qualifications for the deacons. But if you didn't, if you didn't

  37. watch that last week or listen to that last week, I'd encourage

  38. you to go back and Because some of this is going to overlap a

  39. little bit, I'd encourage you to go back and watch that or listen

  40. to that service and give you some good ideas on the things

  41. that we talked about last week, but we're going to move into the

  42. second part of that. The second office that the Bible

  43. gives us in addition to deacons and that is pastors.

  44. So having said that, then what is the description of the

  45. pastor? Well, he's called a pastor, he's

  46. called a bishop. He's called an elder now

  47. obviously, you know you call me past.

  48. Her boots. And that's the way that we do it

  49. in most of our churches. But I suppose, you could say,

  50. Elder boots or Bishop boots. It would be the same thing.

  51. They're all interchangeable. I'm not going to come in next

  52. week and we're as well. Bad to says, Bishop boots on it.

  53. I'll tell you that much, but all of those are the same.

  54. We see that in First Peter chapter 5, but we see in Acts

1 Peter 5 chapter mention Acts 20 chapter mention

  55. chapter 20, you can keep your finger there in first Timothy 3.

  56. And if you want to go to Acts chapter 20, you can, we're going

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  57. to spend most of our time or a good bit of our time.

  58. They're in first Timothy chapter 3, but a next chapter 20 verse

    1 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  59. 7. I mean, this is obviously Paul

  60. and he and from my latest he sent to Ephesus and called the

  61. Elders of the church. That would mean the position of

  62. Elder. In addition to the position of

  63. Pastor is not a Biblical office and and there's a there's a lot

  64. of churches that have Elders in their Church.

  65. They have Elder rules in their church and the term Elder is

  66. synonymous with the term Pastor. It's synonymous with the term

  67. Bishop. So Those are not those are not

  68. extra offices that God has ordained as Baptist.

  69. And this is where we are calling this, a Baptist distinctive.

  70. We believe in to, We Believe in deacons and we believe in

  71. pastors. If you want to call him an

  72. elder, call him an elder. If you want to call him a

  73. bishop, call him a bishop but a pastor of Bishop and the elder

  74. or the same thing, pastors are given the churches as a gift to

  75. bring members into spiritual maturity.

  76. And we find that in Ephesians chapter 4, verse 11, through 16,

    Ephesians 4:11

  77. if you want to write that down, and go back and look at it

  78. later, I'm not going to read it tonight.

  79. Well I am going to quote fairly extensively from a book that was

  80. written by a guy, a pastor by the name of Charles Jefferson.

  81. He wrote a book called the minister as Shepherd now he died

  82. in 1937 so that'll tell you how old the book is I think he wrote

  83. the book in the early 1900s but he said this we lose something

  84. by confining the Anglo-Saxon word Shepherd to the fields and

  85. shutting up the Latin word Pastor in the church.

  86. We know with our Intellect that the two words are synonymous but

  87. we forget it often with our hearts.

  88. It would help us to say occasionally, the Lord is my

  89. pastor. It would lift up the word,

  90. Pastor to hire dignity and pour into it a more Heavenly, meaning

  91. it would Chase in and strengthen every minister of Christ, if

  92. now, and then he would say to himself, I am a Shepherd, my

  93. work is the hurting and feeding of sheep, so just a different

  94. way of thinking about it, but that's exactly what that word

  95. pastor means. It means, Shepherd, and of

  96. course, then the You know, we don't call the Lord our pastor,

  97. but essentially, that's what he is, he is our shepherd.

  98. He is there to guide us to direct us, to help us grow to

  99. help us mature. That's what he does for us.

  100. And and essentially, I'm not saying that a pastor is the same

  101. as Jesus Christ, but that's the term that God gives us for a

  102. pastor is a Shepherd. So then, what are the

  103. qualifications of a pasture? We see it, very plainly laid out

  104. there in first, Timothy chapter 3.

  105. And you'll notice that a lot of these qualifications, Asians are

  106. the same as the deacons but there's a lot of them, a lot of

  107. things that are added to that. And so again, it's not that a

  108. pastor is better than a deacon but but always the deacons are

  109. lay ministers if you will. And I don't even know if calling

  110. them ministers is the right word, but they're not in that

  111. full-time. Position of a pastor leading a

  112. church. They are there as the Servants

  113. of the church, to help the pastor in fulfilling the vision

  114. and the mission of the church, which is to win, souls to

  115. decide. Them and help them grow and be

  116. prepared for the coming of Jesus Christ.

  117. So as we read this, you'll probably see a lot of these.

  118. In fact, verse 8 through 13 at First Timothy is what we kind of

  119. focused on last week with the qualifications of a deacon.

  120. But it says, in verse number 8, likewise must the deacons and it

  121. and so when you say likewise, it means it's got to be likening it

  122. to something else. Well, what that something else

  123. is is the qualifications of a pastor.

  124. So you'll see a lot of these that overlap.

  125. But we're going to talk about the one.

  126. Tonight that we didn't see last week with the deacons.

  127. So there's there is eight or ten of them that we're not going to

  128. look at because we looked at him last week and obviously then

  129. they'd be the same. But let's read through this

  130. passage. First of all, before we get into

  131. talking about these individually because I think it helps us.

  132. But says this in first, Timothy chapter 3 and verse number one,

  133. this is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop,

  134. he desireth a good work, a bishop then must be blameless.

  135. The husband of one wife Vigilant sober.

  136. Burr of good behavior given to hospitality apt to teach not

  137. given to Wine. No Striker.

  138. Not greedy of filthy lucre, but patient, not a brawler, not

  139. Covetous one that ruleth well, his own house, having his

  140. children in subjection with all gravity for if a man know not,

  141. if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take

  142. care of the Church of God? Not a novice lest being lifted

  143. up with pride. He fall into the condemnation of

  144. the devil. Moreover, he must have a good

  145. report of them which are without out, lest he fall into reproach

  146. and the snare of the devil. So there's a lot of

  147. qualifications in order to be a pastor, right?

  148. And a lot of those hopefully you recognize from looking at them

  149. last week because some of them do overlap with the deacons, but

  150. let's look at a few of these. Number one is desire and we see

  151. that this is a true saying if a man desire the office of a

  152. bishop that is that he should strongly want to do the work of

  153. the ministry. I hear people say often.

  154. Well, you know God, I felt God calling me into the ministry but

  155. I fought it and fought and fought.

  156. And finally got broke me down to the point where I said, all

  157. right, if that's what you want me to do, then I'll do it.

  158. Well, I mean, I'm not saying that that somebody couldn't be

  159. in that position that God calls, but you ought to have a desire.

  160. That's, that's what we're trying to teach our young people,

  161. right? God may call them into the

  162. ministry, he may not but we want them to have the desire to be

  163. called, right? There's there's there's a lot of

  164. people who are not in full-time service who would love to have

  165. been in full-time service. And when I say that I'm saying,

  166. you know, position of a pastor or A missionary or an evangelist

  167. or something like that, that God just did not call but they had

  168. that desire of. Sometimes.

  169. People have such a strong desire that they step outside of God's

  170. Will and become a pastor when they never should have, but that

  171. desires should be there and if that desire to be a pastor is

  172. not there, then that's the that really is the first

  173. disqualification. But the second thing I think is

  174. that he ought to know how to work from and he's out of the

  175. office of a bishop. He desireth a good work.

  176. It's a it's weren't being a pastor and I know.

  177. For the hour and a half or so, on Sunday that I that I do

  178. actually work. It's tough.

  179. I'm telling, you know, but honestly, that's, you know,

  180. that's the idea that a lot of people have some time.

  181. Well, you don't do anything, you're only working hour and a

  182. half on Sundays. That's it, right?

  183. And sometimes that may be the way that it comes across.

  184. But there's a whole lot of things that go on in the

  185. background that that are necessary that are not

  186. necessarily seen by everybody, but a pastor ought to know how

  187. to work. He desireth a good work.

  188. The Bible says we continue on blameless, the husband of one

  189. wife, those are Those also overlap, but Vigilant Vigilant.

  190. Is another one that is, he is alert, he's watchful, he's not

  191. easily fooled, he's not, he's not gullible, he's Discerning

  192. what the spiritual and social trends are and the religious

  193. Trends. He's on guard for that spiritual

  194. attack. I think that's so necessary.

  195. Especially if a pastor is going to do the work of protecting the

  196. flock, right? Could you imagine a Shepherd as

  197. just laying around in the field and, you know, you know, Making

  198. little whistles out of pieces of grass and not paying attention

  199. to anything else that's going on around him and a wolf is coming

  200. in and getting ready to attack the sheep.

  201. And he's just not paying attention at all and oh we lost

  202. another one. Oh well I guess next time I'll

  203. try to be a little bit more awake and see what happens that

  204. we ought to be ought to be vigilant Charles Jefferson

  205. again, I told you, I'm going to quote extensively from from his

  206. book. I think probably five or six

  207. quotes I have in here, but he's good in the way that he says

  208. this many a minister fails as a pastor because he is not

  209. vigilant. Ain't he allows his church to be

  210. Torn to Pieces because he's half asleep.

  211. It took it for granted that there were no wolves, no birds

  212. of prey no robbers and while he was drowsing the enemy arrived,

  213. false ideas, destructive interpretations, demoralizing

  214. teachings, came into his parish and he never knew it.

  215. It was interested. Perhaps in literary research, he

  216. was absorbed in the discussion contained and the last

  217. theological quarterly and did not know what his young people

  218. were reading, or what strange ideas have been lodged in the

  219. heads of a group of Is leading members, there are errors which

  220. are as Fierce as wolves and pitiless is hyenas.

  221. They tear Faith and Hope and love to pieces and leave

  222. churches. Once prosperous mangled in half

  223. dead. And I think that's a great

  224. explanation of majority of our churches today because half of

  225. those pastors, don't even know what they believe, let alone

  226. know that this is an error, that's trying to come into the

  227. church and they're not teaching or preaching anything.

  228. So what is there to protect the flock from?

  229. Right? But a pastor ought to be

  230. vigilant. And then it continues on sober.

  231. We saw that one last week but then the next one that we didn't

  232. see is of good behavior. And I think that means he ought

  233. to be mannerly. He ought to be gentlemanly neat

  234. and his appearance in the way that he conducts himself around

  235. other people that ought to be you know there ought to be

  236. something different about the pastor right.

  237. There's there is a desire I think to try to fit in and be

  238. one of the guys and just you know whatever else and that's a

  239. it's a tough balance because if I'm One of the guys then that

  240. respect that ought to be there. I can't just tell you you

  241. respect me, right? I have to earn that respect.

  242. I have to, I have to deserve that respect and that means that

  243. that I'm going to have to act differently.

  244. Another one that comes in that we didn't have last week as

  245. hospitable. And I think that means he needs

  246. to know how to treat and care for people, right?

  247. There's a lot of pastors who just, I guess maybe we could say

  248. it like this, a doctor. Couldn't know everything there

  249. is to know about being a doctor and just have horrible bedside

  250. manner, right? And a doctor with horrible

  251. bedside manner, whether he knows what he's doing or not.

  252. Most of the time you're going to say he's not a very good doctor.

  253. Right? He might know exactly what you

  254. need. He might give you the right

  255. treatment. He might give you the right

  256. medicine and you might get well under his care.

  257. But if he's terrible at his bedside manner, you're not going

  258. to think he's a very good doctor, right?

  259. And I think the same thing, when I'm talking about hospitable not

  260. Hospital, hospitable no, To treat and care for people.

  261. The next thing is that is apt to teach which means a good teacher

  262. skilled at public teaching, personal mentoring good at

  263. showing explaining and helping people to understand what the

  264. Bible is saying. Not that you can't do that thing

  265. for yourself. But why do we have church?

  266. If there's no need for a pastor to help you understand what the

  267. Bible is saying here or there or give you some of that that

  268. spiritual charge that you need. And, you know, I'm not saying

  269. that I'm a great. Speaker or anything like that.

  270. I really don't think that I am. It's the hardest thing for me to

  271. do is to go back and listen to some of my own messages or watch

  272. some of my own sermons. It's, I rarely do it.

  273. Other than when I say, you know what, I need to see what I'm

  274. what I'm doing, that that's annoying or what I'm saying that

  275. is just getting under people's skin or something like that.

  276. So I'll go back and do it every once in a while but I've been

  277. under people who were just boring to listen to and it makes

  278. it very, very hard to To try to follow along with what's going

  279. on. But I think that's one of the

  280. qualifications that God gives a pastor if he's called him is the

  281. ability to expound the word of God, and rightly divide, the

  282. word of Truth and then help us to be able to understand it and

  283. digest it, right? That's that's one of the

  284. qualifications for a pastor verse 3, not given to wine.

  285. That's one that we saw last week but then another one is no

  286. Striker and I think that means not violent.

  287. I've known pastor. Was her ready to fight at the

  288. drop of a hat? I was talking to a guy not even

  289. all that long ago and he said that there was a kind of an

  290. argument in their church and it was It was kind of the pastor

  291. and a few people against some of the other people who didn't like

  292. what was going on and everything else.

  293. And the best are literally rolled up his sleeves and said

  294. you want to fight and that's in the church.

  295. He said that I'm is one just at somebody's house.

  296. He was ready to go to blows and that's that's exactly what

  297. that's talking about. No, Stryker means you're not

  298. violent, doesn't mean that you can't defend yourself, it

  299. doesn't mean that you can't defend the honor of your family

  300. or something like that. If that's what it comes down to,

  301. but not looking for a fight, you know, you're not the one

  302. initiating. It, you're not the one

  303. instigating that and I think that's what that means.

  304. Not greedy of. Filthy lucre obviously we talked

  305. about that least last week as well with the office of a

  306. deacon, but that means you're not doing it for the money right

  307. in. And there's a lot of there's a

  308. lot of these guys out there that are doing it for the money.

  309. I've seen, you know, And I think the televangelists are the ones

  310. that really stick out the most with this but you know you send

  311. me three thousand dollars in God's going to bless you.

  312. You know man. I wish I could think of this

  313. guy's name. He's he's one of the one of

  314. these televangelists, real real piercing eyes.

  315. You know, who I'm talking about. What's his name?

  316. I know, Kevin knows his name, I can't think of it.

  317. If you think of it, let me know. But but I saw him Kenneth

  318. Copeland very good and he, I mean, and the audacity that

  319. these guys have One, they're asking for money.

  320. It just blows my mind. He said we've already got a

  321. private jet. We use that to get back and

  322. forth and it's God's jet. We use that in his ministry and

  323. we use that to get back and forth across the country.

  324. But honestly, I believe God is telling you right now that our

  325. jet needs to be a little bit bigger.

  326. So we can bring more people across the country with us and

  327. God's telling you right now to give more money so that we can

  328. buy a bigger jet. I thinking how in the world can

  329. you get up with a straight face and beg people to give you

  330. money? We then people like, yeah, you

  331. know what here, take some more money for a bigger jet, you

  332. know. But but these guys are in it for

  333. the money and that is not, that's not what a pastor ought

  334. to be doing. And it's one of the

  335. qualifications for the pastor, not a not greedy of filthy

  336. lucre, but patient. And that's another

  337. qualification. And again, patience is a virtue

  338. as we've heard in many many times, but that's something

  339. that, that, that, if you're expecting to have, you know,

  340. start a church one day and have a church of 500 people the Next.

  341. And when that doesn't happen, you're rushing and you know just

  342. just all over the place. You know, pulling your hair out,

  343. trying to make it happen. Listen.

  344. You have to be patient and you have to be patient with people.

  345. My father-in-law used to say, I don't think you said it all the

  346. time, but he said before, at least a couple times.

  347. The ministry would be great if it wasn't for people.

  348. And obviously that's kind of an ironic statement, because that's

  349. what the ministry is, but they're people.

  350. And if I'm not patient with the All that God's given us and I

  351. expect, why are they not growing?

  352. Why are they not moving? Why are they not doing this?

  353. Rather not doing that? I wouldn't be in this very long

  354. because people grow very, very slowly for the most part.

  355. But but it's, that's, that's one of the qualifications for a

  356. pastor is to be patient. And then kind of right along

  357. with the idea of no Striker is not a brawler.

  358. And and I think that, you know, it's not quarrel somewhere

  359. argumentative. A striker means you're not ready

  360. to knock somebody out at the drop of a hat, but Not a brawler

  361. means that you're not chorus quarrelsome, not argumentative.

  362. Some pastors are always looking to get into an argument, right.

  363. I am not a confrontational person.

  364. I don't like to argue. I don't like to get into

  365. arguments but a pastor should be looking to defuse that situation

  366. not looking to get into it and you know I honestly I find I

  367. find a lot of times that a lot of the pastor's that come up

  368. with strange ideas or strange, doctrines seems like are the

  369. ones that are the are the most looking to get into an argument.

  370. And I think it's because maybe they know that their ideas kind

  371. of a fringe idea and you know, they know that people are going

  372. to say things against it. I don't know exactly what that

  373. is but it seems like that's the way that it happens.

  374. A lot of times but a pastor ought not to be a brawler do not

  375. I mean, you ought not to be getting arguments, you know, not

  376. that you don't stand up for what you believe in.

  377. I'm not saying that because there is a time when you have to

  378. stand up for what you believe, but, but not argumentative, not

  379. quarrelsome, not looking to get into one of those arguments, and

  380. then we see this Well, we kind of saw this, which verse four,

  381. and five very much have to do with what we talked about last

  382. week with the deacons, but ruled his own house.

  383. Well, having his children in subjection with all gravity for

  384. if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take

  385. care of the Church of God is like a?

  386. That's a rhetorical question really, right?

  387. It's not asking for an answer. It's saying if you can't even

  388. rule your own house, how can you rule the house of God, right?

  389. And I think, I mean that puts a lot of pressure on the pastors

  390. kids because they know that That well, if I mess up Dad's

  391. Ministry is done, right? And and and to a certain extent

  392. that's I mean I suppose that that's the way that it is.

  393. But I don't expect my kids or any pastors kids to be perfect.

  394. They're going to make mistakes there.

  395. They're going to be kids. They're going to have problems

  396. from time to time. But how are you handling those

  397. problems? How are you dealing with those

  398. problems? Are you dealing with those

  399. problems? Because again, if you can't rule

  400. your own house and how can you, how can you take care of?

  401. Church of God. Then you also see a not a novice

  402. lest being lifted up with pride. He fall into the condemnation of

  403. the devil and I think that simply means that is a mature.

  404. Christian is not a brand new Christian you don't get saved on

  405. Friday and become a pastor on Sunday, right?

  406. Not that. You can't go tell everybody

  407. that, you know, about Jesus Christ.

  408. That's exactly what knit and did when he got saved, right?

  409. He got saved in the next thing, you know, he was on the zoom

  410. calls and all these talking to all of his family, he wasn't

  411. preaching to them, he was sharing them, the gospel.

  412. Gospel, right? Sharing the gospel with them and

  413. it took several years for him to get to the point.

  414. And honestly had he not been, you know, the time constraint to

  415. get back to India because of the job and everything else.

  416. We probably would have kept around here a little bit longer

  417. to continue training him but obviously as a Christian he grew

  418. very, very fast because he had that desire and he had a lot of

  419. that Christian background and everything it already anyway.

  420. And when he got saved and God opened his eyes up to all of

  421. those things, it was, it was very easy for him to say.

  422. A while. Now, all of this, that I've

  423. learned my whole life that I had the wrong idea of make sense,

  424. and of course, he applied himself very, very much and was

  425. taking classes and doing all kinds of different things.

  426. But a pastor ought, not to be a new Christian.

  427. It's, it's hard enough. Just being a pastor.

  428. When you have been a Christian for a long time or when you have

  429. grown up in and everything else, let alone to be trying to lead

  430. people spiritually. When you don't even know the

  431. direction you're going yourself. So a mature Christian not a

  432. novice or a new creation and The last one we see there in verse

  433. number 7. Moreover you must have a good

  434. report of them which are without lest he fall into reproach and

  435. the snare of the devil and I think that just means that he

  436. has a good reputation in the community.

  437. There are a lot of businessmen who go to church who as we

  438. talked about this somewhat last week with the deacons who don't

  439. have a good reputation in the community.

  440. They've worked so many people off in their business and

  441. they've done so much damage in that way that when somebody

  442. finds out what you're a pest, And you still, can you treat

  443. people that way, right? Y'all have a good reputation

  444. outside of the church as well and again sometimes you have a

  445. bad reputation because you stand up for the truth and they don't

  446. like what you're saying and that's different.

  447. It doesn't mean that you have to compromise for the sake of

  448. having that good reputation. But but at the very least,

  449. people ought to be able to save that man.

  450. Is honest that man at least stands up for what he believes

  451. in that man. At least treats people, right?

  452. That man. At least and nothing bad that

  453. they can say about the person who they're talking about.

  454. So we're good. Reputation in the community

  455. which brings us then to the role of the pastor.

  456. And I don't want to take too much longer on this.

  457. I preached a message on this, not all that long ago.

  458. Maybe beginning of December or end of end of November somewhere

  459. around there, I think, but turn over to Hebrews chapter 13.

    Hebrews 13 chapter mention

  460. This is where I jumped ahead of myself a little bit in the notes

  461. there on the PowerPoint, but the role of the pastor, the first

  462. job that the pastor has, and I say a job because he says, he

  463. desireth a good work, it's not just in a position to be filled.

  464. It's a job to be done. It's it takes work.

  465. But the role of the pastor of the job of the pastor is.

  466. First of all, to lead the church.

  467. Hebrews chapter 13 and verse. Number 7, Remember them which

    Hebrews 13 chapter mention

  468. have the rule over you, who have spoken unto, you the word of God

  469. whose Faith, follow considering the end of their conversation.

  470. Now, what he's saying there is whose Faith follow considering

  471. the end of the convert, their conversation, that work

  472. conversation is talking about our lifestyle, right?

  473. You look at the way he lives his life and you ought to follow

  474. that person. As he follows Christ verse 17,

  475. obey them, that have the rule over you and submit yourselves

  476. for. They watch for your souls as

  477. they that must must give account that.

  478. They may do it with joy and not with grief.

  479. For that is unprofitable, for you.

  480. And I've mentioned this many times before, but I'm going to

  481. give an account to God for the direction that this church goes

  482. in. And if I'm too weak to lead the

  483. church and the church goes in a direction that is weakening the

  484. church that I'm the one that's going to have to answer to God

  485. for that right now, you might answer to God for the way that

  486. you for your role in that if you were one of the ones that's

  487. really pushing. Thing for the weakening of the

  488. church, but the Bible doesn't hold the church.

  489. People responsible for the direction of the church goes in.

  490. He holds the pasta responsible for that, and again, it's the

  491. responsibility then of those who are in the church to follow that

  492. leadership and to obey them that have the rule over you.

  493. And I know that sounds like a dictator up here, saying, you

  494. obey me, but I'm not. The one that said it.

  495. God's doing that said that right obey them.

  496. That have the rule over you and submit yourselves.

  497. For they watch for your souls, I know a lot of strong men who

  498. will stand on the promise of Ephesians chapter 5 and chapter

    Ephesians 5 chapter mention

  499. 6. That my wife is going to follow

  500. me. I'm the leader in my home, she

  501. better submit to me who won't submit to their Pastor when the

  502. Bible. Very clearly says that, that's

  503. what they ought to be doing for, they watch for your souls as

  504. they, that must give account that, they may do it with joy

  505. and not with grief but that's unprofitable some profitable for

  506. you. When you don't do that, is what

  507. he's saying. But how great for me to be able

  508. to stand before God and say, Say, this is the direction that

  509. we went in with our church, these people followed they

  510. submitted and God blessed it. That's, that's exactly what he's

  511. talking about because I want to be able to give an account with

  512. joy and not with grief. I want to be able to say yes, we

  513. went in the direction you wanted us to go not in the opposite

  514. direction, right? So how does the pastor leave?

  515. The church will? First of all he has to lead by

  516. example turn over to 1st Peter, chapter 5, what we're going to

  517. look at a couple different versions versus there and First

    1 Peter 5 chapter mention

  518. Peter chapter 5. But the pastor ought to lead, by

  519. example. And I think that's first and

  520. foremost. Right First, Peter chapter 5,

  521. and verse. Number 3, says this, Neither as

  522. being Lords over God's Heritage but being and samples to the

  523. flock. Now, what is he talking about

  524. when you go back and look at verse number 2, which we're

  525. going to read in, just a second and these two kind of go hand in

  526. hand with each other. But I ought to be leading the

  527. church. By example, I can't say, do as I

  528. say, not as I do, this is what the Bible says you better do it.

  529. Now, I'm going to live my life, how I want to live it, don't

  530. watch what I'm doing at home, don't watch what I'm doing when

  531. I'm at church, don't watch what I'm doing out in the community.

  532. You do. What I say, not what I do it's

  533. that's that's not it's not going to work till lead that way,

  534. right? And so I've said this many times

  535. before as well, if I want you to jump a foot I've got to jump

  536. three feet, right? If I'm going to get up and

  537. preach against movies with language and movies with, you

  538. know, for lack of better term pornography.

  539. And it, I mean, people don't call it that anymore, but that's

  540. what it is, right? I'm going to get up and preach

  541. against those things. Then I better not be doing those

  542. things in my own home. I better have a standard set

  543. very high in my own home and we do which we try as much as we

  544. can, you know? And well, that means you can't

  545. watch any movies. Exactly.

  546. I couldn't tell you any of the actors other than unless they

  547. were in some, you know, some big news story or something like

  548. that, that came out because of something else that they did.

  549. And it's not it's not a bragging thing.

  550. It's a thing that I'm saying I'm telling you to do this but if

  551. all I'm doing is telling you to to do it and I go home and live

  552. it. Number one I've got a family

  553. that's watching me they hear everything that I say here and

  554. if they go home and they see me living a completely different

  555. Lifestyle. The first thing they're going to

  556. say is we'll Dead's a hypocrite doesn't mean anything you say

  557. anything you want to in church, right?

  558. You can you can pretend that you're living your life.

  559. Any way that you want to ensure church, but you better be living

  560. at home too. And and so I have a

  561. responsibility to lead the flock of God but I better be leading

  562. by example. Charles Jefferson said this, a

  563. Shepherd cannot shine. He cannot cut a figure.

  564. His work must be done in obscurity, the things which he

  565. does do the things which he does do not make interesting copy.

  566. His work calls for continuous self-effacement is a form of

  567. service which eats up a man's life.

  568. It makes a man old before his time.

  569. Every Good Shepherd. Lays down his life for the sheep

  570. for men is dependent on the Applause of the crowd.

  571. He ought never to enter the ministry.

  572. And again, what a great statement Man, that's why I use

  573. so many of the statements that he made in that book because his

  574. great statements. But again, does that limit what

  575. I'm what I'm allowed to do some things that may not even

  576. necessarily be sinful but because I'm, I've got to hold a

  577. standard and because I've got to be the example, there's a lot of

  578. things that I can't do that that I probably could if I wanted to,

  579. but I don't because I don't because of how it's going to be

  580. perceived and because of how people who are watching my life.

  581. And what I do are going to follow, right?

  582. And and what you allow in just a little bit, the people are going

  583. to do an excess, right? So if I say, well, oh man, you

  584. got to see this movie. It was, it was funny.

  585. There's a couple parts in there that you got to kind of watch

  586. and really, you know, it, they're not great but, you know,

  587. but the movie is, it was so funny.

  588. Well, guess what? Everybody's going to do, number

  589. one, everybody's going to go watch that movie, they're going

  590. to see. And now they're going to be

  591. looking for the parts that were bad and it because now I

  592. mentioned that there was a couple parts that were not

  593. great. So now wonder what parts he was

  594. talking about that were not great, right?

  595. But then they're going to say, well the pastor, watch this, so

  596. nothing wrong with that. I mean, yeah, the one that he

  597. was talking about only had two customers in it.

  598. This one has eight but it's only 8:00, right?

  599. And that's what happens. And if I'm not leading by

  600. example but what you what you allow, the people are going to

  601. do in excess and it's the same thing with my family.

  602. What about what I allow and just small amounts.

  603. My kids are probably going to do an excess later on so I have to

  604. lead by example but also we see this in First Peter 5 verse

  605. number two, that I have to lead by taking oversight feed the

  606. flock of God, which is among you taking the oversight thereof,

  607. not by constraint but willingly, not for filthy lucre, but of a

  608. ready mind. And again, this is speaking

  609. directly to pastors, right? My job is to feed the flock and

  610. I have to take the oversight. What does he say not by

  611. constraint but willingly that means somebody should not have

  612. to force me. To lead, somebody should not

  613. have to force me to take the oversight of the church.

  614. I ought to do it willingly not by constraints.

  615. What he's saying? The pastor has to exercise his

  616. leadership. That's the idea that's found in

  617. the title of Bishop. The titled Bishop means

  618. overseer, that's my job. It's my responsibility.

  619. To the pastor is the overseer and the inspector of all the

  620. Ministries and all the workers and and everything, that goes

  621. everything that involves the work of the church.

  622. If I'm not taking oversight of it and making sure.

  623. Or that it's going in the right direction.

  624. Then I'm not doing my job. Not following what I've been

  625. commanded to do, but that's what leadership is that's

  626. Administration. That's casting the vision it's

  627. coming up with the plans. It's figuring out ways that we

  628. can get more people into church. It's figuring out ways that we

  629. can get the gospel out to more people and trying to help our

  630. church to grow numerically and spiritually that falls on me.

  631. And if I'm just waiting for something to happen and hoping

  632. that somebody will come along and help out with that, then I'm

  633. failing. Failing in my responsibility, I

  634. have to take the oversight. No Pastor can lead just because

  635. he's the pastor, right? He has to take charge and if he

  636. doesn't, somebody else is going to take the lead, we see that

  637. happens. So often in families, right?

  638. I've said that many many times. It's a husband's responsibility

  639. to lead the home and the husband doesn't lead his home.

  640. Then the wife especially if she's got any kind of type, A

  641. personality is going to step in and take that lead role and

  642. that's not the way that God designed it.

  643. It's the same thing that's true in a church, right?

  644. What I talked about this last week.

  645. Why is it that in a lot of churches that you see the

  646. deacons just run the entire church?

  647. Because the pastor is not willing to step up and take the

  648. oversight and if he didn't take the lead, then there's always

  649. somebody else would say well will lead if you want.

  650. Right but that's not the way God designed it.

  651. That God designed for the pastor to take the oversight, strong

  652. leadership results in a strong Church.

  653. Weak leadership results in a week church.

  654. And when you have weak leadership, what you see

  655. happening. So often is same thing that

  656. we've always talked about. Out though the music gets

  657. weakened and then the standards get weekend and then everything

  658. else just Falls right behind it and the whole church is weakened

  659. because there's no strong leadership.

  660. Sometimes a pastor that leads authoritatively is accused of

  661. dictatorship. And I suppose, that is something

  662. that needs to be the pastor has to be careful.

  663. Not to allow that to happen. I've seen many churches where

  664. they, where they did have a pastor who was a dictator.

  665. But most, you know, most supervisors or for man A job.

  666. They're not looked at as being dictators if they take that

  667. leadership role and they tell their guys what to do and what

  668. not to do and everything else, right?

  669. That's looked at as being a good supervisor and and I think the

  670. same thing with a pastor who's leading in a Biblical manner,

  671. should be considered and that same thing, right?

  672. Not a dictator just because you're making sure that things

  673. are done, right. But the job of the pastor is to

  674. Shepherd, the flock and I kind of mentioned it already but

  675. watch for enemies. Watch for Or wrong Doctrine,

  676. watch for attack, defend the Sheep, heal the sick, and

  677. wounded sheep Comfort, the sick, and wounded sheep help them to

  678. get through those things, you know, free, the Trap shaped love

  679. the sheep and, you know, that means many times sharing in life

  680. events and and earning that trust and it's something that I

  681. try to do, I'm not, you know, I'm not saying that I'm the

  682. greatest at it but most everybody that spent time in the

  683. hospital, I've been there with you. you I my when my mom was

  684. sick And she had cancer and was going in for Brian.

  685. And I surprised her. She didn't know we were coming

  686. up there, but we got up to the hospital on the day that she was

  687. going in for surgery. And we showed up at the entrance

  688. when my dad dropped her off and she was just really shocked to

  689. see us. But you know, who else was

  690. there, their pastor? And he sat there for basically,

  691. the entire time that she was Insurgent.

  692. I think she was in surgery for three or four hours, then it was

  693. another hour or two after that, before the doctor came out to

  694. say, hey, this is how everything went, he set there the entire

  695. time. He was doing some work and

  696. things like that there in the in the waiting room, but he was

  697. there for probably five or six hours and that meant a lot to

  698. me. And I know it meant a lot to

  699. them because he was there for them and, you know, it's just

  700. something that, you know, this is not as if it was just a job.

  701. Then that's not something that you're going to do.

  702. It's a calling, it's a, it's a passion, it's a desire.

  703. And Charles Jefferson said it this way, it's by no means easy

  704. for a young man to become a shepherd.

  705. And he ought not be If you cannot become one in a day or a

  706. year and Order, can he can be without difficulty of reformer,

  707. he can become at once. In criticism of politics and

  708. Society, he can do a flourishing business, the first Sunday, but

  709. a Shepherd, he can become only slowly and by patiently

  710. traveling the way of the Cross. And it's exactly the mindset

  711. that I have. And, you know, I don't expect

  712. to, you know, on day one, especially as a brand new Young

  713. pastor and I know, Years in this position going on seven.

  714. I guess is not all that long to be in that in that position, but

  715. it takes time and it takes, it takes being there.

  716. It takes working through people's issues with them.

  717. And there's, there's so many things that, that, that come in,

  718. that I cannot let get out, right.

  719. It takes earning that trust the same way that it, that it takes

  720. earning a trust in a marriage relationship.

  721. One time of breaking that trust is all it takes for somebody to

  722. never trust. Just you again and so it's a lot

  723. of work and a lot of time and a lot of effort to Shepherd the

  724. flock, but that is the pastor's responsibility which brings us

  725. then. So first of all, he's to leave

  726. the church. Secondly and there's only two

  727. here is to feed the church. Turn over to Acts chapter 20.

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  728. Acts chapter 20, and I'm going to cover these things pretty

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  729. quickly because we're running out of time.

  730. I don't want to keep you too long tonight, but Acts chapter

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  731. 20 and verse number 28, says this.

  732. Take heed therefore unto yourselves.

  733. And to all the flock over the which the Holy Ghost hath made

  734. you overseers to feed the Church of God, which he hath purchased

  735. with his own blood, honestly, we see both of those ideas lead,

  736. right? Bye-bye, he made you an overseer

  737. to feed the Church of God. Which he hath purchased with his

  738. own blood. You're not too far from there.

  739. So, turn over to John 21 if you will.

  740. John 21. And again, this is this is Jesus

  741. speaking here, talking to Peter in particular.

  742. But knowing that, these were the men that were going to become

  743. the apostles. And, and essentially, the

  744. pastor's of the church is that God called them to to pasture.

  745. But John chapter 21 verse number 15.

    John 21 chapter mention

  746. So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon son

  747. of Jonas. Lovest thou me more than these.

  748. He said unto Ba Lord thou knowest that I love thee.

  749. He said unto him, feed my Lambs say it to him again the second

  750. time Simon son of Jonas lovest thou me He said unto him.

  751. Yea Lord thou knowest, that I love thee, you said unto him,

  752. feed my sheep, he saith unto him.

  753. The third time, Simon son of Jonas.

  754. Lovest, thou me, Peter was grieved because he said unto him

  755. the third time. Lovest thou me and he said unto

  756. him. Lord thou knowest all things.

  757. Thou, knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him.

  758. Feed my sheep verily, verily, I say unto thee.

  759. When I was young now, glitter, Gerdes thyself' and walk his,

  760. whether thou wouldest, but when thou shalt be old, Thou shalt

  761. stretch. Each for thy hands and another

  762. shall gird thee and carry thee. Whither, thou wouldest not this.

  763. He spake signifying by what death by what death he should

  764. glorify God. And by the way, Peter ended up

  765. giving his life and became one of the martyrs.

  766. And Peter was set to be crucified in the same way that

  767. they crucified Jesus. And this is not in the Bible,

  768. this is just what we know from history.

  769. And Peter said, I'm not worthy to be crucified in the same way

  770. that my Lord was crucified and he asked them to crucify him

  771. upside down. They did and that's how Peter

  772. died. But that's that that is, you

  773. know, the whole, the whole point of that is to feed the church,

  774. feed my sheep. He says, how does he feed it

  775. feed? The church WIll number one, and

  776. you can turn to as many of these passages as you can.

  777. We're gonna be in Acts chapter 6, give himself to the ministry

    Acts 6 chapter mention

  778. of the word, Acts chapter 6. Hopefully, you'll recognize the

    Acts 6 chapter mention

  779. passage we talked about last week which is where the first

  780. deacons were called. And in Acts chapter 6, one of

    Acts 6 chapter mention

  781. the reasons they needed to call the deacons, we was because they

  782. were missing out on Taking care of the widows and on some of the

  783. ministration of the church. And the reason why was actually

  784. over 6 and verse 4 but we will give ourselves continually to

  785. prayer and to the ministry of the word.

  786. That's how a pastor can feed the sheep.

  787. The second way is to hold fast the faithful word and I'm just

  788. taking these directly from the Bible.

  789. We see that in Titus Chapter 1 and verse number 9, Titus 1

Titus 1 chapter mention Titus 1:9

  790. verse 9 says holding fast, the faithful word as he hath been

  791. taught that he may be able by sound Doctrine.

  792. Both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers but hold fast,

  793. the faithful word, right? If I.

  794. And I'm saying, I because, obviously, I'm the pastor and

  795. this is my responsibilities, is that, this is the, this is what

  796. God's called me to do, but if I waffle on everything and well,

  797. you know, I know the people don't really like this very

  798. much. So, let's bend it a little bit

  799. and change the word of God, a little bit.

  800. And let's, let's, you know, we don't need the harsh words in

  801. the King James. Let's bend it a little bit and

  802. go to one of these other versions.

  803. And, you know, It to the people a little bit easier, and

  804. whatever else. I mean, whatever it happens to

  805. be, but that's not holding fast. The faithful word, the third

  806. thing, then to feed the church would be to preach the word.

  807. That's why I have to spend time, studying and praying and

  808. preparing, and preaching sermons second, Timothy chapter 4, and

  809. verse number to preach the word be instant in season, out of

  810. season reprove rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and

  811. Doctrine. Boy, if most people in most

  812. churches saw that today, And I don't know if I guess it's just

  813. not being taught, but, oh, you can't say mean things like that.

  814. You can't you can't preach hard anymore, right?

  815. Well, that's what the Bible is saying.

  816. Preach the word be instant in season out of season which means

  817. be ready. Always to preach when need be

  818. but reprove rebuke, exhort with all long-suffering and Doctrine.

  819. I mean that does those are harsh words, right?

  820. I mean, rebuke somebody reprove somebody.

  821. Well, you can't tell me that I'm wrong.

  822. You can't tell me this, you can't tell me that.

  823. And again, I mean, I think the second half of that is just, as

  824. important as the first half, but with exhort with all

  825. long-suffering and Doctrine, right?

  826. You ought to be kind in the way that you get it across, but it

  827. has to be gotten across and it has to be done.

  828. And those are, those are not the the fun parts of being a pastor,

  829. right? The last thing I want to do is

  830. make people mad. The last thing that I want to do

  831. is have people storming out in mad at me and angry with me and

  832. whatever else. But the last thing that I want

  833. to do, before I hurt your feelings is to hurt God's

  834. feelings and not preach the truth, right?

  835. Not preach. The word as the Bible says, the

  836. fourth thing then. To do the work of an evangelist.

  837. It's not a job that belongs just to me but it belongs.

  838. First to me, if I'm to lead you in it.

  839. Second Timothy chapter 4 and verse number five.

    2 Timothy 4 chapter mention

  840. Be thou it but but watch thou in all things endure afflictions do

  841. the work of an evangelist make. Full proof of thy.

  842. Ministry was the work of an evangelist?

  843. Let's get the message of the Gospel outright.

  844. And evangelist is a proclaimer, right?

  845. Somebody who proclaims the message of the gospel and then,

  846. and Then be a wise counselor. That's the way to feed the

  847. church and that idea is found in the word Elder the word Elder

  848. means counselor. Let me give you some final

  849. thoughts here. As we close them back over.

  850. The first Timothy chapter 5 We're going to get to this in a

    1 Timothy 5 chapter mention

  851. second. Number one, the qualifications

  852. for pastors, reflect the immense importance of this ministry,

  853. right? We looked at 10 at 11 that were,

  854. in addition to the ten or so that we looked at last week for

  855. the deacons, that's about 20 or 21 qualifications in order to be

  856. a pastor. Well, that eliminates so many

  857. people you can't do you know. Well that's that's the

  858. importance of that role. It's not just something that you

  859. say well, you know, I think I'll be a pastor today.

  860. You know what? I'm Bill done being a painter.

  861. I think I'm just going to go be a pastor.

  862. All right, I mean that's not it's there because it's number

  863. one, it's a calling but there's a lot of requirements that are

  864. on somebody who wants that work. Number two pastors, are the

  865. spiritual under Shepherds that God calls to take care of his

  866. flock. Charles Jefferson again.

  867. One of the secrets of the fascination of Shepherd as a

  868. title. Is that the word carries a

  869. straight to Christ himself Associates us at once with him

  870. so far as the new Testament tells us, Jesus never called

  871. himself, a priest, or a preacher, or a Rector, or a

  872. clergyman, or a bishop or an elder, but he liked to think of

  873. himself as a Shepherd. I think it's great.

  874. Number three, so full-time position That's essential to the

  875. well-being of every local church.

  876. If I don't, if I don't use the majority of my time and I have

  877. other things that I do, I'm a chaplain.

  878. I do some of this wood working things on the side, but

  879. everybody that I ever do anything for whether it be wood

  880. working or whether it be with the chaplaincy or anything else

  881. knows that the church comes first, And if something comes up

  882. that requires my attention for something in the church.

  883. They know that, that's where my first responsibility is, they

  884. know, they can't call me out on Sundays, they know mother can't

  885. call me out on Wednesdays. There's times when I can't be

  886. called out and I have that very plain for them to see because

  887. I'm not going to skip Wednesday night because I got called out

  888. as a Chaplain. You know, I'm not going to skip

  889. visitation on Saturday because I'm working on a wood project

  890. and I got to get this thing finished, right?

  891. That is, this is my primary job my primary responsibilities and

  892. I try to take it very seriously. Number four, There's absolutely

  893. no warrant in scripture for the hierarchies that evolved in some

  894. denominations or groups of churches.

  895. Every local church should have their own Pastor, right?

  896. Larger churches. Very well may have more than one

  897. Pastor on their staff that helps there should still be one the

  898. lead. Pastor One Pastor that oversees

  899. everything, but but the larger a church gets its it does become

  900. necessary to have assistant pastors.

  901. If you will, who help in certain areas in certain aspects, but

  902. no, Pastor should control group. Oops of churches or

  903. denominations what you see in a lot of places.

  904. But since we as Baptist believe that there are only two offices,

  905. don't clutter up, the flow charts with, you know, trustees

  906. trustee boards, and Elder boards, and committee boards.

  907. And all of these other things that you see, in a lot of these

  908. other churches, right? Pastor and deacons.

  909. Those are, those are the two offices that we see that God

  910. give us in the church. And then, the last thing is

  911. this, and, but the scripture makes it clear that Pastor

  912. should be remunerated wherever possible.

  913. Second, Timothy chapter 5, Verse 17.

  914. Let the elders that rule, we'll be counted worthy of double

  915. honor. Especially they who Labour in

  916. the word and Doctrine for the scripture saith.

  917. Thou shalt not muzzle. The ox that treadeth out, the

  918. corn and the laborer is worthy of his reward.

  919. Now that word honor here can mean respect, but it means wages

  920. and a local church should should fully appreciate the value of

  921. the Pastoral Ministry by recognizing that, we see another

  922. lengthy passage in 1st Corinthians chapter 9, that Paul

  923. was talking to the church at Corinth.

  924. This chapter chapter 9 verse 7 through 14.

  925. But somebody said this and I, you know, obviously this is I'm

  926. not saying it because, you know, it's talking about the wages of

  927. a pastor is always a weird topic to talk about because I'm how

  928. much you going to pay me now for this, right?

  929. But somebody said a church that will not adequately support

  930. their pastoral staff, will not Prosper.

  931. Spiritually. And I think that's, I think

  932. that's, I think that's a worthy saying.

  933. But Second Corinthians chapter 9 and verse number six says this,

    2 Corinthians 9 chapter mention

  934. But this I say he would soweth sparingly shall reap also

  935. sparingly and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also

  936. bountifully. And I think that principle Works

  937. in any aspect of our lives, right?

  938. We give to God, he's going to give back to us.

  939. We believe in pastors and deacons we don't we don't have

  940. any deacons yet. I may not be too far off for us,

  941. but we do have a pastor and, and I'm not better than any of you.

  942. God doesn't love me more than he loves you.

  943. I'm not perfect. I try to be real.

  944. I'm not perfect. But I do Genuinely care for you,

  945. and for your family and for the church and for the Lord and I'm

  946. not perfect. But I do take my job seriously

  947. and the day that I stop taking my job seriously as the day that

  948. I was step out of the ministry, right?

  949. It's a very serious job, it's a very serious business and the

  950. same way that God does not play with our lives.

  951. I should not be playing. With the lives of the people

  952. that God's given us here in this church and when we have deacons,

  953. I pray that they'll do the same. But what a tremendous

  954. responsibility and not that other churches don't have only

  955. pastors and deacons but a lot of churches, add a lot of a lot of

  956. offices that we just don't find in the Bible, right?

  957. And that's one of the things that makes Baptist distinct not

  958. that we're the only church that does Baptist.

  959. I mean, that does pastors and deacons, but that is one of the

  960. things that does set us apart with all These other things is

  961. that we believe in two offices and their the offices of the

  962. pastor. The Deacon, right.

  963. Let's let's review one more time before we pray and finish up

  964. here. So the Baptist distinctives we

  965. have one more next week but B is the authority.

  966. A pea T. Which are?

  967. Baptism. Lord's Supper.

  968. I Individual soul, Liberty s-save church membership and the

  969. one that we just finished the tea.

  970. Two offices, which are pastor and Deacon.

  971. The last one I'm going to Spill the Beans.

  972. It is separation of church and state and that's a big

  973. distinction. The Baptist's were the ones who

  974. basically made that happen in the United States.

  975. It was a Baptist pastor. I don't want to get ahead of

  976. myself, but it was a Baptist pastor who got that.

  977. That the first of the in the Bill of Rights that basically

  978. the separation of church and state.

  979. And we're going to be looking at that next time.

  980. Next week. All right, let's pray and then

  981. we'll be dismissed. Father, we love you, give me.

  982. Thank you for your word. I thank you for the truth that

  983. we find in it. God, I pray that you help

  984. everyone of us to fulfill to the greatest of our ability, the

  985. role that you've given to us in this church.

  986. And God, I pray that we'd be doing everything we can to get

  987. the message of the Gospel Out to Get Lost Sinner's in and to

  988. disciple them, those they get saved disciple them to See them

  989. grow and mature in their Christian faith and God I pray

  990. that you would just continue to help us as we try to reach this

  991. area for you. I pray that you'd send a Revival

  992. here to our church that it would, it would spark something

  993. so great. That We can't help but people

  994. can't help but notice that there's something going on here

  995. and what we have, that's the desire.

  996. So God I pray that you would just be with those who are still

  997. sick. I know that most people are

  998. finishing up with that and I'm thankful for that but I pray

  999. that you just helped him to get well and be able to be back here

1000. for church on Sunday. Thank you for all that you do

1001. for us in Jesus name. Amen.
