  1. In your Bibles tonight to Deuteronomy chapter 22.

    Deuteronomy 22 chapter mention

  2. And we're going to get there in a few minutes.

  3. So if you would also like to turn a Proverbs Chapter 7 will

    Proverbs 7 chapter mention

  4. be there first. I know these lessons over the

  5. last couple months have really pushed people in two directions.

  6. And again we're going to be talking about other this idea of

  7. standards and convictions, some have responded, well to it and

  8. embraced it and others have pushed back against and I think

  9. a lot of that has to do with what you've always heard.

  10. The way you were raised or just maybe a lack of previous

  11. teaching on that topic. But whatever side you've taken,

  12. I want you to understand that in no way.

  13. Have I taught these lessons because I like controversy or

  14. push back. In fact, I hate it.

  15. I've taught these lessons because I find them clearly in

  16. the word of God. And it's my responsibility as

  17. your pastor to preach the whole counsel of God regardless of

  18. whether I like it or whether you like.

  19. And I'm going to answer to God someday for what I teach and

  20. what I preach. I'm not going to answer to

  21. anyone of you at the Judgment seat.

  22. And I don't mean that in a disrespectful way at all.

  23. I don't mean that in a, in a Snarky way at all.

  24. But I'm going to answer to God. And I want to, I want to preach

  25. and teach the things and do my best to be able to say that I

  26. preached and taught it. Whether it was popular in

  27. Christian culture or whether it was accepted or not.

  28. So, this will be our last study on standards and convictions,

  29. but I think you'll find it to be a pretty convincing argument in

  30. favor of just exactly what I've been talking about.

  31. And that's the idea of stronger, standard stronger, stronger,

  32. standards of dress and there's certainly a whole lot more.

  33. We could say, there's been a lot of books written on this.

  34. This topic, but for the sake of time and for other important

  35. things that I do think we need to get to, this will be the

  36. last. And so, just to give you a

  37. little bit of a recap in the last two lessons.

  38. We looked at two scriptural principles that relate directly

  39. to this area of what we, where we looked at the principle of

  40. modesty and we looked at the principle of vanity and we spent

  41. a little bit of time on those, but tonight we're going to look

  42. at this third principle and again, the last principle and

  43. it's a Biblical principle and one that relates Directly to our

  44. clothing but it relates directly to how people viewed clothing in

  45. Bible times and how people view clothing now and it's the

  46. principle of identity. We might also call it the

  47. principle of Distinction and so when we talk about the idea of

  48. dress it's not just modesty although that's a big part of

  49. it. It's modesty and distinction or

  50. modesty and identity. So I want to Define this

  51. biblical concept of identity and see how it applies in our lives,

  52. in this area of standards and conviction.

  53. So, Number one, let's look at this and I've only got two

  54. points here tonight, not not that.

  55. It's going to be real quick. But just I want to make sure

  56. that we lay these things out. So number one, you have to

  57. understand that your clothes, say something your clothes

  58. speak. And I'm not talking here,

  59. particularly about modest in modesty or vanity.

  60. I'm talking about the fact that your clothes choices create or

  61. reveal something, essentially about you, they identify you

  62. and, you know, it Be that. I mean, there's lots of

  63. different ways that, that can be applied, you know, that guy

  64. always wears that color, or that guy always wears a suit or that,

  65. you know, that lady, always wears that type of clothes,

  66. whatever it happens to be. And so maybe kind of on the more

  67. harmless side of that thing. You know, they may identify you

  68. as a slob, the way you dress, right?

  69. Or they may identify you as somebody who is neat or somebody

  70. who is fashionable, or somebody who is, you know, prioritizes

  71. Comfort or you know, that your practical or that you're young

  72. or that your old, right? You can tell how old Old bill is

  73. based on the way that he dresses all the time, but I'm kidding.

  74. I'm kidding. And then he's made everybody

  75. else do it because he went and bought ties and made everybody

  76. else put those onto. No, I'm kidding.

  77. Jackson loves that tie, brother, Bill.

  78. He wears that thing every every time they have to wear a tie for

  79. school, every time for church, he wears it everywhere, so

  80. appreciated, I'm teasing, obviously.

  81. But all of these things may or not may or may not be

  82. intentional by you, but they do exist your clothes do speaking.

  83. Along that same lines. There are some Our examples in

  84. both. But the Bible and in real life

  85. of clothes, being purposely, chosen for reasons Beyond Beauty

  86. or practicality, right? And that's, that's a lot of what

  87. we've talked about before there. A lot of times, they're chosen,

  88. as a means of self-expression, doesn't take long of walking

  89. around in a mall somewhere to see just exactly what

  90. self-expression. They're trying to make right

  91. there was, there are some some clothing brands that are more

  92. and I'm not up on my clothing brands.

  93. So forgive me, but there are some clothing brands that are

  94. more outspoken in their idea of rebellion against society and

  95. everything else, and you could go into like, Abercrombie and

  96. Fitch. And you can see, especially in

  97. the tooth, you know, the early 2000s.

  98. But even now there's a lot more that are like that.

  99. I think maybe they were probably one of the leading ones in that

  100. whole charge of that sexualized look and trying to just, you

  101. know, give people that idea, you think about somebody who dresses

  102. with the Gulf Lifestyle, right. I mean they, you can see a

  103. difference in them and they're trying to show you something,

  104. right? Most of the time that goth idea

  105. is, I'm rebelling against the society.

  106. I'm going to wear all black, I can wear my hair off how I want

  107. to. I can wear my clothes.

  108. I want to and you can't say anything otherwise, right?

  109. There's a lot of stores that you can go to that.

  110. Have that idea, I mean, I don't have to say much about the Amish

  111. for you to know that they have their own style of clothing and

  112. how they dress, you know, and go to a pride parade, right?

  113. You're going to see that they dress in their own way to, so

  114. our dress and the way we dress says something about us.

  115. It's a means of self-expression in a lot of ways and thankfully

  116. we do have scripture to show us that fact to I just want to look

  117. at this one verse in. Proverbs chapter 7 and verse

    Proverbs 7 chapter mention

  118. number 10 it says this and behold there met him a woman

  119. with the attire of a harlot. I'm trying not to be

  120. inappropriate but a prostitute then and now Wright had a

  121. certain style of clothing that advertisers who they are and we

  122. see all the way throughout the rest of the Bible and not not

  123. necessarily that that idea. But the idea of you know, a

  124. priest garments, a Widow's garments, you had a bride's

  125. garment so there's obviously ways that we can dress to try to

  126. get across the certain idea of what we are or what we want to

  127. be. So how do you, how you present

  128. yourself to the world? Whether you like it or not

  129. identifies you and and and those That we just mentioned and for

  130. sake of time, we're not going to go look at them in the Bible,

  131. but there are simply different expressions of the same biblical

  132. truth and that's this your clothes speak, what you wear

  133. says something about you. So how does the overarching

  134. truth of a Holiness that comes from the inside out?

  135. Apply here. Well, it tells us that our

  136. clothing, our make up our jewelry, our hair, everything,

  137. they're all presentation choices and they should be filtered

  138. through the understanding of who we are.

  139. Well, Are we biblically? Or Sinners saved by grace,

  140. right? We're children of God pursuing

  141. Holiness, or at least, we should be were new creatures who have

  142. been separated from the world, or at least we should be.

  143. And and the same thing with that we talked about with the

  144. principles of vanity and modesty this principle principle of

  145. identity, directly impacts the clothing.

  146. Choices that we make in relation to our appearance and that has a

  147. lot to do with the Brand's, the Styles, the lengths, the colors

  148. materials, so many different things.

  149. That we can talk about. But my point here is that those

  150. choices identify us and they should be filtered through a

  151. Biblical screen. How you look says something

  152. about who you are about, how you identify yourself about, how you

  153. view yourself for that matter. But I guess the question that I

  154. would ask tonight then is, does your appearance choices or do

  155. your appearance choices? Reflect, The work of Christ

  156. within you or not. So, not only do your clothes,

  157. identify your Christianity, your underlying identity, as a

  158. Christian. But also number two, your

  159. clothes, identify your gender. And that's, that's kind of where

  160. I want to focus tonight. And so turn over to Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 22 chapter mention

  161. chapter 22. Biblically we have seen this

  162. idea specifically in First Corinthians 11 already.

  163. And again, for the sake of time, I'm not going to go back and

  164. review that tonight. But Paul spent a lot of time he

  165. took that almost that whole chapter there, in First

  166. Corinthians 11 to talk about that idea.

  167. Of course we talked about the idea of your hair and your

  168. appearance and all that stuff. But this idea that our outward

  169. appearance ought to line up with the gender that God made us is

  170. not just reserved a hair like we talked about, you know, it's

  171. explicitly. Died in scripture to our

  172. clothing as well. Deuteronomy chapter 22 and verse

    Deuteronomy 22 chapter mention

  173. 5 says this, the woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto

  174. a man? Neither shall a man put on a

  175. woman's garment for all that do. So, are Abomination unto the

  176. Lord, thy God. Now, Abomination is a great word

  177. of emphasis. It's not only reflects the depth

  178. of God's feeling about something, but also the length

  179. of God's feeling about something and with one exception,

  180. everything that God condemns as an Nation in the Old Testament.

  181. He again, condemns as an abomination, in the New

  182. Testament, we see that same idea with homosexuality, right?

  183. For example, which by the way that that has obvious gender

  184. connections to it as well, right?

  185. God calls homosexuality, an abomination in the Old Testament

  186. and Deuteronomy 22, God is basically saying in essence, I

  187. made you a man, I made you a woman, your outward appearance

  188. ought to reflect that. We could put it another way

  189. around and say that you should not dress to reflect your

  190. sexuality. But you should dress to reflect

  191. your masculinity or femininity, right.

  192. The first part of that would be a modest dressing to reflect

  193. your sexuality, would be immodest but the second part of

  194. that is entirely scriptural dressing to reflect your

  195. masculinity or femininity right doing that is an external

  196. reflection of an internal belief.

  197. God identifies me as a man or God identifies me as a woman.

  198. My clothing choices ought to publicly say that.

  199. I understand and I agree with what God Said.

  200. We could look at a lot of verses in a lot of physical examples to

  201. show that, which we're not going to do for the sake of time

  202. tonight. But God made us different,

  203. right? God gave us different roles.

  204. God gave us different responsibilities, and we've

  205. talked extensively about that when it comes to the roles of

  206. the husband, and the wife, and the man, and the woman in the

  207. home, we have different mentalities.

  208. We have different bodies. We have different strengths, we

  209. have different weaknesses, but we're not only different where

  210. scripturally required to visibly.

  211. Look different. And so in being briefed, Safe

  212. tonight. I'm not.

  213. I'm not taking time to explain how psychology has trying to

  214. Ben. Has been trying to change the

  215. generals for many years. But what we're seeing today with

  216. this trans gender ideology that is just being pushed down our

  217. throats and and it is you know, it is it's transforming schools.

  218. It's transforming bathroom policy to whoever thought you

  219. know ten years ago that you were going to have to wonder if there

  220. was going to be a guy in a man's in a woman's bathroom, right?

  221. But this whole idea this trend Gender ideology has been given

  222. free reign because of all the work that's been done in society

  223. to change those gender roles to this point in history, but the

  224. simple truth is that we cannot change our gender without

  225. revolting against our maker. And, you know, as obvious as it

  226. seems to us that God gave you the gender that you were

  227. assigned at Birth, right? You're either a man or a woman

  228. you don't get to change that. And Society is saying, no, I

  229. want to change that I got You know, God gave me this, you

  230. know, this these features to make me a man or a woman, but

  231. that's not who I am. I'm changing that and you revolt

  232. against what God made you to be right, but what those who

  233. Embrace that idea fail. So often to grasp is that we

  234. cannot even appear to change our gender without revolting against

  235. our maker. And to do that is to become our

  236. own God. It's become our own maker, it's

  237. to deny his sovereignty and really to assert our own

  238. sovereignty in our lives. It would seem fairly Is that in

  239. a society? That's rushing in the opposite

  240. direction. So quickly in the area of gender

  241. that God's people would see the necessity of an even clearer

  242. stand than we've ever had before.

  243. And that I know that kind of teaching is not popular.

  244. It's very much criticized today and apparently since it came out

  245. of Deuteronomy which you know never mind the fact that it also

  246. includes a lengthy passage about this in First Corinthians.

  247. But the whole idea that men's and women's appearances should

  248. be visibly distinct from each other doesn't apply anymore.

  249. Well, that was in Deuteronomy. That's the Old Testament.

  250. It doesn't matter. American Christianity teaches

  251. really that that only applied to the Jews in the Old Testament.

  252. It doesn't apply today because that's Deuteronomy, right?

  253. That's the, that's the book of the law and there's, but there's

  254. something curious here though. It's not what most of

  255. Christianity, a thought for 2000 years.

  256. And let me just give you a brief sampling.

  257. I pulled out a bunch of commentaries and started reading

  258. through what they had to say about Deuteronomy. 25.

  259. Most of the Terry's that I have. And and that are in the public

  260. domain are old and have been written, you know, many years

  261. ago by Christians, that, you know, before all this nonsense

  262. of, you know, homosexuality was being pushed on us and

  263. transgenderism was being pushed on us.

  264. I have to think that today in a lot of cases, the commentaries

  265. that have been that are being written.

  266. Today are not being written in light of what the Bible has to

  267. say, they're being written in light of what culture has To say

  268. about those things and that changes the way that they right.

  269. But let's go back a few years and see what what some of these

  270. commentary said before the enlightened age in 1560 the

  271. Geneva Bible, footnotes about this.

  272. All of these that I'm going to read our about Deuteronomy 22:5.

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  273. Says that alters the order of Nature and shows you despise

  274. God. Matthew pool, he lived from 1624

  275. 21679, he said, now this is forbidden partly.

  276. Decency's sake that men might not confound nor seem to

  277. confound those Sexes, which God, hath, distinguished, Matthew

  278. Henry. That's a name that a lot of you

  279. would probably recognize as you Henry was, was probably one of

  280. the first ones to actually write a commentary on the Bible, or

  281. least wrote a commentary on the whole Bible, he died in 1714.

  282. So that'll tell you how long ago, this was.

  283. But he said, the distinction of the Sexes, by the apparel is to

  284. be kept up nature itself. Teaches that a difference.

  285. Be made between Them in their hair and by the same rule in

  286. their clothes, John Gill died in 1771 said this, since in nature,

  287. a difference in Sexes, is made, it is proper and necessary that

  288. this should be known by difference of dress.

  289. Otherwise, many evils might follow Adam, Clarke Died In

  290. 1832. He said the close shave

  291. gentleman May at times appear like a woman in the female dress

  292. and the woman appears a man in the male's.

  293. Attire wear this to be tolerated in society, it would produce the

  294. greatest confusion Albert Barnes died in 1877.

  295. The distinction between the Sexes is natural and divinely

  296. established and cannot be neglected without in decorum and

  297. consequent danger to Purity Jamison faucet.

  298. And brown is another commentary was written in 1871 says the

  299. adoption of the habiliment of one sex by the other is an

  300. outrage on decency. Obliterates.

  301. The distinctions of nature by fostering softness and

  302. effeminacy in the man impudence and boldness in the woman as

  303. well as levity and humor. Park Christian both and in short

  304. it opens the door to an influx of so many evils that all who

  305. wear the dress of another sex or pronounced an Abomination unto

  306. the Lord. And that's, I mean, obviously,

  307. those were written before, the idea was popular that we would

  308. that men would wear women's clothes.

  309. Women would wear men's clothes and but I'm starting to think

  310. that it's not me that's out of the step with the majority of

  311. Christianity. It's the emits American

  312. Christianity Today who really only came up with this idea in

  313. the last 50 years or so. But it's Not been all that long

  314. since Christians began to embrace this idea.

  315. So I have to believe. That's it's the current

  316. generation that's out of step with the majority of Christian

  317. thinking on this Old Testament verse.

  318. But modern American Christianity has thrown out the historical

  319. understanding of Deuteronomy 22:5 because it doesn't want to

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  320. be out of step with society that shifted, his views on women,

  321. wearing pants and honestly, this the same idea and we talked a

  322. little bit about this on Wednesday night when it came to

  323. the idea of evolution, right evolution.

  324. To be accepted amongst Christians because science was

  325. saying that this was the way the Earth came around.

  326. Well, they knew that, the Bible said that in the beginning, God

  327. created the heavens and the Earth.

  328. But then science came out and said no no that's not the way it

  329. happened, it happened by Evolution.

  330. So then Christianity started trying to come up with a way to

  331. fit science and the Bible together and they came up with

  332. the ideas like the Gap Theory which says well there was days

  333. of creation. God created this and left long

  334. gaps of time for everything to evolve right.

  335. Well, that's not what the Bible says.

  336. That's. That's not what it.

  337. You know, the Bible doesn't then have anything to do with what

  338. the Bible says. In the Bible is very clearly the

  339. evening and the morning were the first day, right?

  340. So, so when we try to marry the Bible with Society, it's always

  341. the Bible that ends up getting thrown out, not society.

  342. When it should be the other way around when it comes to us as

  343. Christians. But Christianity does not have

  344. the right to adjust. The teaching on a passage just

  345. because Society has adjusted, but that's what we've done with

  346. a lot of things. We've adjusted.

  347. Christianity based on what society says is normal.

  348. Right. Why are you finding out that in

  349. a lot of these churches? And thankfully it's not it's not

  350. crept into the Baptist Church in most places yet.

  351. But why are you finding that a lot of these other denominations

  352. are changing their view on homosexuality.

  353. Did the Bible change on that? The Bible is always said that

  354. homosexuality is an Abomination, but now Society is ramming it

  355. down our throats and telling us, it doesn't matter.

  356. Let people decide for themselves, what they want to

  357. do, that's their own life, they can do what they want.

  358. To do with their life you need to accept it to an American

  359. Christianity is saying okay, okay, fine, you push it down our

  360. throats long enough. We're accepting it, right?

  361. And whether it's still in their version of the Bible or not,

  362. there they are allowing homosexuality.

  363. Homosexual, marriages in their churches, their allowing clergy

  364. to be homosexuals. That doesn't have anything to do

  365. with the Bible and a hundred years ago.

  366. People would have would have looked at that and said what in

  367. the world are you doing? But now because Society has

  368. said, Okay, in society is pushed it long enough, we've begun to

  369. accept it. If Christianity does that I'll

  370. promise you, it'll have no end of adjusting to do this.

  371. Look at the constant shifting of positions on sexual sexuality

  372. and gender in Liberal. And now, even in Evangelical,

  373. American Christian churches. Now, I've read a lot of good

  374. books on this subject, but one that I came across in fact, Miss

  375. Barbara, let me borrow it. I'd heard of it before I didn't

  376. have it, but it was written by Elizabeth rice.

  377. Hanford and it's and the title of the book is your clothes say

  378. it for you. In fact, I've got it right here,

  379. John all rice, which Brian just mentioned.

  380. We the song that we just sang was written by John O Rice.

  381. He's written a lot of the songs that we have in our book but

  382. this is this is one of his daughters, Elizabeth writes

  383. Hanford and the book isn't real long.

  384. I don't know how many pages it is.

  385. How about 100 pages? But it's an excellent book on

  386. this whole topic and especially geared for ladies because she is

  387. a lady, but I want to read you Chapter in this book.

  388. And I know I don't do this very often but I came in studying

  389. this out, I came across this chapter and rather than try to

  390. summarize it myself. I decided I'm just going to read

  391. it and it's a little bit long but the way that she handles,

  392. this passage here in Deuteronomy, 22 verse 5, I think

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  393. is excellent. And so let me read it to you.

  394. She says, this apparently, this scripture says a woman is not to

  395. wear a man's clothing, and a man is not wear women's clothing.

  396. Those who do are an Abomination to God Abomination is as strong

  397. a word of a version as you can find.

  398. It means extreme. Disgust, loathing, abhorrence,

  399. hateful, shamefully vile Abomination.

  400. That's the way the God feels when he sees a woman put on a

  401. man's garment or a man put on a woman's garment.

  402. Is this what that verse were actually means?

  403. Sometimes it's been dismissed by Christians with the comment.

  404. That's only ceremonial law. That doesn't apply to us

  405. Christians it's only ceremonial law.

  406. Then we not only are not obliged to keep it, it would be wrong

  407. for us to impose it on There's when Christ died.

  408. He blotted out, the handwriting of ordinances that was against

  409. us, which was contrary to us and took it out, took it out of the

  410. way, nailing it to his cross. That's Colossians chapter 2 and

    Colossians 2 chapter mention

  411. verse 14. Verse 16 and 17.

  412. Say, let no, man, therefore judge you in meat or in drink,

  413. or in respect of an holyday or of the new moon or of the

  414. Sabbath days which are a shadow of things to come.

  415. But the body is of Christ, all ceremonial laws were abolished

  416. at the cross. All moral laws are still

  417. enforced, so how can we tell if this is ceremonial law or moral

  418. law? And therefore For binding,

  419. you'll remember that a ceremonial law was established

  420. by God, especially for the Jews had nothing to do with the

  421. inherent right or wrong, it involved a certain ceremony,

  422. hence, the word ceremonial that would teach the Jews.

  423. Something specific about their set apartness for God.

  424. Jews were commanded to do certain things just to show,

  425. they were different. For example they were forbidden

  426. to eat certain animals and birds but God changed that command

  427. after the death of Christ in Acts 10 15 God told the Apostle

  428. Peter what God hath cleansed that call not thou common the

  429. Big lesson had been taught. It was impossible to earn

  430. salvation by keeping rules. The lesson is ended, now anyone

  431. Jew, or Gentile can eat meat. First Timothy 4 3 and 4 says,

  432. men will depart from the faith commanding to abstain from

  433. Meats, which God hath created to be received with Thanksgiving of

  434. them, which believe and know the truth for every creature of God

  435. is good and nothing to be refused.

  436. If it be received with Thanksgiving is then Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  437. 22:5 ceremonial or moral law, the whole chapter is a mixture

  438. of both. Many verses are obviously Moral

  439. law, if you see a neighbor's ox or sheep wandering, return it

  440. conserve, natural resources. So future Generations can eat.

  441. Take responsibility in your home for the safety of others wife

  442. has a right to a fair trial, if Accused by her husband of

  443. impurity. Rape is to be severely,

  444. punished. So, is adultery.

  445. These are moral laws for verses in this chapter are probably

  446. ceremonial, don't so mixed seed in a field, don't plow with an

  447. ox and ass together. Don't mix fibers in woven cloth,

  448. do well Fringe on your clothing now into which of these two

  449. categories. Verse 5 fit one clue.

  450. Is that the scripture says a woman who wears men's clothing

  451. is an Abomination unto, the Lord thy God.

  452. It's a terrible offense to God himself when a woman puts on

  453. men's apparel. Does God ever used the

  454. expression, Abomination unto the Lord?

  455. When speaking of a ceremonial law know, the essence of

  456. ceremonial always that Jews would make certain things

  457. unclean to themselves. Deuteronomy 14, Leviticus 11,

  458. listed number of things. The Jews were to consider an

  459. Abomination. He is unclean to you.

  460. Leviticus 11:7, all fouls. That creep, going a On all four

    Leviticus 11:7

  461. shall be an Abomination unto. You verse 20, all such

  462. prohibitions made to Jews in the Old Testament, were canceled in

  463. the New Testament, but when the phrase an Abomination to me,

  464. when God is speaking or an Abomination to God is used, the

  465. scripture is forbidding a gross, moral sin, something inherently

  466. and obviously, wrong and equally condemned in the New Testament

  467. idolatry is an Abomination to God.

  468. So, our human sacrifices witchcraft murder and lying in.

  469. These got, she's got versus for all these, but, therefore, when

  470. God, Is it is an Abomination to him when a woman wears, a man's

  471. clothes. We must conclude it is a moral

  472. command not ceremonial. This sin is the same class with

  473. gross sin of idolatry adultery and murder in light of this.

  474. Many Hebrew scholars believe Deuteronomy 22:5 refers to the

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  475. Heathen practice of using male, prostitutes and Temple worship

  476. specifically to transsexual cross-dressing for deviant sex

  477. in the worship of pagan gods. And maybe this is its primary

  478. meaning and a deliberate wearing of the apparel of the opposite

  479. sex in order to blur the distinctive work.

  480. God Has in mind for each, sex would be wrong to wear the

  481. clothing of the opposite. Sex might betray perhaps

  482. unintentionally an unwillingness to submit to the plan.

  483. God especially designed for each one of us when he created US

  484. male or female. Question that next arises is,

  485. what is men's apparel. What is women's apparel?

  486. The assumption is that the reader of this scripture would

  487. know which was, which God does never give a command that we

  488. can't obey because we don't know what it means.

  489. The second assumption is that men's and women's clothing, do

  490. differ. First Timothy 2:9 says, In like

    1 Timothy 2:9

  491. manner, also that women Adorn themselves in modest apparel,

  492. the word apparel is a Greek word.

  493. Casteau Young's analytical concordance, translates, it

  494. long, robe note, for the moment that the emphasis is on, robe

  495. will talk about the long robe later.

  496. In this scripture, the assumption is that women will

  497. wear robes. I know of only one situation in

  498. scripture where men were commanded to wear pants.

  499. The priests were commanded to wear breeches to cover the loins

  500. and thighs. When they walked up the steps to

  501. minister at the altar in 1st Timothy 2:9 in the in the first

    1 Timothy 2:9

  502. Timothy 2:9 reference we might as Ask if God gave this command

  503. concerning robes, because it was the custom in Timothy sculpture

  504. for women to wear robes, perhaps not God's word is eternal, it

  505. will last forever. It is, it is as applicable and

  506. relevant to us who live in an urban mechanized mobile society.

  507. As it was two people, two, thousand years ago, living in a

  508. rural agricultural, simple Society.

  509. Furthermore, the stress of scriptures that we're not to

  510. conform to the world's standards of culture.

  511. If they violate scripture some of Christ, most scathing

  512. denunciation were against those who taught the traditions of In

  513. as if they were the doctrine of God, God didn't notice that most

  514. of the women in Timothy's Church wore robes.

  515. And then determined that all Christian women in that town

  516. should wear robes. In fact, God graciously makes

  517. allowance in scripture for those of different cultural

  518. backgrounds in non-moral matters.

  519. The outcome of the Council of Jerusalem and X-15.

  520. Was that Gentile Christians ought not to offend Jewish

  521. Believers. And that Jewish Believers ought

  522. not to require ceremonial customs of Gentile Christians.

  523. In fact, when cultural Customs are referred to in scripture,

  524. which might not be Familiar to those of another culture.

  525. The Holy Spirit often takes time out from the narrative to

  526. explain that custom, for example, in Ruth 47.

  527. Now this was the manner and former time in Israel,

  528. concerning redeeming a man. Plucked off his shoe and gave it

  529. to his neighbor Second Kings 11:14, Esther 113 for Samuel, 99

    2 Kings 11:14

  530. have similar explanations. I would not ever give a command

  531. in Scripture that depended on our knowing about a foreign

  532. culture from an external Source apart from his word before, we

  533. can understand it enough to obey it.

  534. Second Peter, 1 3 and 4 says, his divine power hath given unto

  535. us all things that pertain unto life and godliness whereby are

  536. given unto us exceeding, great and precious promises.

  537. So God's word does not require light shed on shed on shed on it

  538. from secular history. In order to understand what is

  539. expected of us. Certainly where profited by

  540. light from other sources on the word of God, we are enriched by

  541. what Bible historians teach us. I speak now only of God's

  542. commands themselves being plane whatever.

  543. First Timothy, 2:9 means it's not To command a first century

  544. women and their relationship to a local cultural custom.

  545. It's for women living today in our culture, as well.

  546. The Bible also makes many references to men, wearing

  547. robes, the Greek word stole is used of men's garments, as well

  548. as women's three times. The word is translated wrong,

  549. long, robe or long garment, How can there be a distinction of

  550. men and women? Both wore robes a clue is found

  551. in the Greek word. Catus told used only once in

  552. scripture and there's reference to women's clothing There, there

  553. it refers to women's clothing. The great scholar says, that,

  554. that word means properly a lowering letting down.

  555. Hence, a garment, let down. So, this seems to indicate a

  556. woman's role would be longer than a man's.

  557. Another clue is found in Deuteronomy, 25.

  558. The word garment is the Hebrew word.

  559. Simla in contrast to an inner garment or vest.

  560. Simla means, outer garment, this implies, it's the outside the

  561. obvious, the immediately distinguishable garment that

  562. ought to differ between men and women, the silhouette the All

  563. impression is to be distinctly, male or female, you ought to be

  564. able to tell at a glance whether one is a man or a woman and zone

  565. defense, pictorial dictionary, the article on Hebrew woman's

  566. dress, says, a few articles of female clothing, carried

  567. somewhat, the same name and basic pattern yet.

  568. There was always sufficient difference in embossing

  569. embroidery needle work. So that in appearance, the line

  570. of demarcation between men and women could be readily detected

  571. in the more remote parts of the Arab lands.

  572. Today, they wear clothing is essentially the same as it was

  573. in. What times this statement is

  574. still true, though, the traditional Arab dress for men

  575. and women is still the robe. There is never the slightest

  576. doubt in your mind as to whether you are viewing.

  577. A man or a woman, the entire silhouette is different one day.

  578. At the dinner table. Our children were discussing our

  579. paper boy, was he a paper girl? He wore a shirt and blue jeans

  580. but that proves nothing these days.

  581. His or was it her hair was long and curly with cute bangs.

  582. He wore loafers with a fringe. I was inclined to agree with my

  583. girls, no boy could have curls that pretty but my son, Paul won

  584. the argument. Aunt.

  585. It's a boy. He said, positively, he rides a

  586. boy's bicycle. This is what God meant.

  587. When he described confusion this Deuteronomy 22:5, then mean a

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  588. woman I'll never wear slacks and this country, most women wear

  589. slacks if most women wear them. Doesn't that automatically make

  590. them women's apparel perhaps. So.

  591. But if women's and men's apparel are to be distinct, how can a

  592. woman make her slacks distinct from a man's?

  593. Not by color pastels are no longer the private province of

  594. women. Color alone no longer conveys

  595. femininity my zippers on the side instead of the front.

  596. Woman explained to me, I made my slacks for me so you can't say

  597. they are man's apparel but does that meet God's expectation,

  598. that the silhouette the first impression be distinctly

  599. feminine to tell the truth? You wouldn't be very happy if a

  600. man check to see if the zipper on your slacks was in the front

  601. or on the side. But slacks are so much more

  602. comfortable than a skirt. You might say, your comfort is a

  603. subjective matter. You really may be more

  604. comfortable in pants, but should we make Comfort our first

  605. consideration? A hundred times a day.

  606. We choose to do. What is not comfortable, but

  607. right, We got a bed every morning when staying in bed

  608. would be more comfortable, but slacks are more modest than

  609. skirts. Most women wear isn't it?

  610. Better to wear slacks into being modest aren't pants.

  611. The lesser of two evils. In a later chapter, we'll talk

  612. about whether slacks are more modest in a skirt and yes, I

  613. realized that's the third time. I've told you will discuss

  614. something later if you've no idea how hard it is to keep this

  615. how hard it is, to keep this book organized right now.

  616. Let's talk about whether slacks of the lesser of two evils,

  617. Manish, nests or in modesty, Charles Spurgeon said, when

  618. choosing between two evils, Neither is it better to be a

  619. modest or to wear men's apparel Spurgeon says choose neither.

  620. You don't have to choose between in modesty and on womanliness

  621. you can be modest and womanly when we must make a moral

  622. decision, let's erase from our possible choices, every

  623. alternative that involves wrong. If you feel, you have no choice.

  624. But the lesser of two evils is because you have not considered

  625. all the Alternatives, you do have another Choice somewhere

  626. somehow, so that you don't have to break any of God's commands.

  627. He promised in First Corinthians 10:13 to provide a way we can.

    1 Corinthians 10:13

  628. Escape from Temptation. God always keeps his word.

  629. There's always some way to solve a problem without choosing evil.

  630. You may have to do some creative thinking and perhaps some

  631. designing and sewing. I'm not promising, you, it'll be

  632. the easy way out, but you can find a garment to wear that is

  633. both feminine, and modest and functional, but my husband likes

  634. me to wear slacks. You might exclaim knowing that,

  635. I'm the woman who that wrote that just as difficult to handle

  636. book me, obey him, you know, I believe God wants us to obey our

  637. husbands. Does he want you to wear slacks?

  638. Because you seem to be more fun less inhibited.

  639. And you wear them, they seem to make you more his pal, His

  640. companion, that's a gift, you can give him no matter how you

  641. dress, if you are earnestly obeying your husband and

  642. everything. Not just where your druthers

  643. coincide with his his will. I've a hunch, I'll defer to your

  644. convictions about this. My husband does not feel as

  645. strongly as I do about my not wearing pants, but he Treasures

  646. my relationship with the Lord and wouldn't want me to do

  647. something against my conscience, but you might properly object,

  648. you have taken one teensy-weensy, scripture in the

  649. Old Testament and made a federal case.

  650. Is out of it. If it's as important as you say,

  651. wouldn't God have repeated elsewhere in scripture?

  652. This command is not repeated elsewhere in scripture, but the

  653. biblical principle underlies, all man-woman relationships.

  654. Even if it's not repeated, we have to ask ourselves how many

  655. times must God commands us to do something before we obey him

  656. twice. Three times.

  657. Is it one clear command enough to show us the mind of God if we

  658. won't listen to him the first time, would we listen to him the

  659. second or third time? Jesus said, we are accountable

  660. for every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

  661. One command is enough, is it legalistic rather than living by

  662. grace, to obey this particular element of scripture?

  663. I think not, I make choices every day about my lifestyle to

  664. avoid Temptation not to earn God's approval but simply

  665. because he showered his great grace on me.

  666. One of my girls said to me but mother lots of women.

  667. Don't believe. Like you do about this and

  668. they're just as good of Christians as you are.

  669. This is absolutely true. I have no corner on God's word.

  670. This is a decision you must make for Off as you study the word

  671. and see God's heart. God holds me accountable for

  672. decisions. I make while reading his word

  673. regardless of what others believe Proverbs 22 21 says

  674. we're to know the certainty of the words of truth.

  675. So that we might answer the words of truth back to him, who

  676. sent them to us, we are accountable to listen to God's

  677. word, then repeat it back to him to demonstrate that.

  678. We really heard him correctly. Perhaps the principles given in

  679. Romans chapter 14, for Christians who disagree on

    Romans 14 chapter mention

  680. certain matters of Lifestyle will help you make your

  681. decisions. First, it is wrong to Judge

  682. others about spiritual decisions, they make as they try

  683. to serve God, him that is weak in the faith receive.

  684. Ye but not to doubtful disputations.

  685. Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not and let not

  686. him, which eateth not judge him. That eateth for God.

  687. Hath received him who art thou that judgest another man's

  688. servant to his own Master. He standeth or falleth ye shall

  689. be holding up for God is able to make him stand for none of us

  690. liveth to himself and no man, dieth to himself.

  691. But why Dost thou judge thy brother or why Dost thou set at

  692. nought thy brother second? Each of us will answer to God

  693. alone for our decisions. For we shall all stand before

  694. the Judgment seat of Christ for it is written.

  695. As I live saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every

  696. tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall

  697. give account of himself to God. Third, we ought not to give

  698. someone else an excuse to sin. Let us not judge there for one

  699. another anymore. But judge this rather that no

  700. man put a stumbling block or an occasion to fall in his brothers

  701. way. But if thy, brother be grieved

  702. with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably, destroy, not him

  703. with thy meat. For whom Christ died, let not

  704. then your good be evil spoken of for the kingdom of God, is Not

  705. meat and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy

  706. in the Holy Ghost. The last of all, we must not

  707. violate our own conscience hast, thou Faith, have it to thyself

  708. before, God, happy as he, that condemneth, not himself in that

  709. thing which he alloweth. And he that doubt is, is damned

  710. if he eat. Because he eateth not of faith

  711. for whatsoever is not of faith is sin.

  712. This surely ought not to be a divisive thing among Christians

  713. a woman. A woman's godliness is certainly

  714. not determined simply by whether she wears a skirt or slacks, a

  715. critical spirit toward others about this would be just as

  716. sinful as disobedience in any others fear, you might exclaims

  717. in exasperation but Libya, I just don't like to wear skirts.

  718. And with that, we have may have come to the heart of the

  719. difficulty. Why don't you like to wear

  720. skirts? Instead of slacks, is it because

  721. slacks are more comfortable, more stylish cheaper more

  722. modest, or could there be a more basic problem of which you are

  723. not aware? Several years ago, I was in the

  724. library researching a patriotic program.

  725. I was writing for our Christian Day School, leafing through the

  726. yellowed, 1933 almanach, I came across the picture of Marlene

  727. dietrich's sitting on top of a grand piano performing in a

  728. nightclub the caption said Miss Dietrich was the first woman

  729. ever to wear a man's suit in public.

  730. That was not strictly accurate. History tells us of many women

  731. who wore men's clothing but when asked why she dared to do so she

  732. retorted because I'm tired of men, having all the fun in life.

  733. A friend of mine was shopping in one of the largest department

  734. stores in Atlanta. She was astonished that they had

  735. dozens of racks of pantsuits and only one rack of dresses and

  736. suits with skirts. She expressed her surprise to

  737. the saleswoman. You bet?

  738. The clerk said, we women are finally getting our rights.

  739. We're not going to let the men push us around anymore,

  740. sometimes. Then evidently a woman will

  741. choose to wear pants because she doesn't want the role.

  742. God lovingly designed for her, the question who wears the pants

  743. at your house? Implies, that whoever wears the

  744. pants is the boss God. Good for the man to be the

  745. leader in his own home. What you where does reflect your

  746. attitude toward an authority reveals how you feel about being

  747. a woman. God wants even your clothing to

  748. demonstrate that. You gladly.

  749. Accept the position, he has given you, your clothing should

  750. say, I enjoyed being a woman and I gladly submit to God's will

  751. for my life. I know it's long and a lot to it

  752. and you know, certainly you could grab that book and and

  753. there's a lot more to it that kind of explains how she got up

  754. to that point. But the simple truth With.

  755. I think, is that American Christianity for the most part?

  756. No longer swims against the current, but we always used to

  757. do that it. Now, it purposely swims with the

  758. current and it mocks these poor dumb, ignorant, legalistic

  759. Christians, who are trying to swim against the current and

  760. that's why it's why there's even a necessity to teach a lesson on

  761. what it means to be an independent fundamental Baptist

  762. because there are so few left so many, I mean, just go to any of

  763. these churches in this area and look at At what they are

  764. allowing in the churches and you'll know that, you know,

  765. we're trying to swim with the current instead of against it.

  766. And in fact what's happening now is that a lot of Christians are

  767. apologizing for the fact that ever swim against the current

  768. right? How many times have you seen

  769. people come out and say you know I know how hurtful the language

  770. was for us to preach against homosexuality and I know how

  771. hurtful the language was for us to save this and say that and do

  772. these other things. When all we're doing is

  773. preaching the word of God don't need to apologize for preaching.

  774. Word of God. But when women began wearing

  775. pants in Western Society, it was understood that that was a

  776. statement by women that they had assumed for themselves.

  777. The roles that were traditionally taken on by the

  778. men. That and like she mentioned in

  779. that book, the statement of who wears the pants.

  780. In the family means who's in charge who leads, right?

  781. Who provides who sets the pace, the reason why my wife and my

  782. daughter don't wear pants in public.

  783. And the reason why honestly, every every In that teaches in

  784. Sunday school or sings in the choir, or as a nurse who work,

  785. or does anything in our church should be in a skirt or dress

  786. during church is not just about modesty.

  787. Yes, it's about modesty but it's also about identity.

  788. I wouldn't let my son walk out of the house in a skirt.

  789. But you have a big issue with that if I let my son walk out of

  790. the house in a skirt, you know, I wouldn't allow a deacon to

  791. serve the Lord supper in a dress, right?

  792. You would think I was joking. Probably.

  793. And then you'd have a big issue with me if I got up here to

  794. preach in a dress, right? You would have a heart attack

  795. probably and and you would never come back, you know, you.

  796. But in you might be saying, well, men, wearing skirts is

  797. different. Everybody knows that men

  798. shouldn't wear skirts. Right.

  799. But mark my words just not gonna be long before it's mainstream

  800. and you're going to see it a whole lot more already, trying

  801. to push it in a lot of aspects and it may be a few years.

  802. But eventually American Christianity is going to follow

  803. and there will be it's going to start in your big

  804. non-denominational churches first, but they'll be guys up

  805. there preaching, on the stage in a skirt.

  806. And they're going to be laughed at and made fun of and

  807. everything else. And people are going to leave

  808. that church but some will stay and eventually more churches are

  809. going to do it and eventually it's going to be mainstream,

  810. it'll be normalized and And men are going to wear.

  811. Skirts fact, can I read you an article really quick from from

  812. this past summer? Brad Pitt turn some heads at the

  813. premiere of his latest film by donning.

  814. A skirt for his red carpet appearance 58 year old actor was

  815. all smiles when he arrived at the Berlin.

  816. Screening as he posed for photos while, wearing a brown raw Edge

  817. hem, knee length, skirt and matching jacket pit paired, the

  818. outfit with combat boots. A pink button down multiple

  819. necklaces and sunglasses. As outfit.

  820. Showed off multiple leg tattoos. When he was asked why he was

  821. wearing a skirt. The actor told a reporter, the

  822. breeze, The breeze. The actor has apparently

  823. professed. His love of wearing skirts in

  824. the past according to British Vogue magazine, pit predicted

  825. that skirts would become a mainstream fashion for men in no

  826. time. He made the comments while

  827. promoting the 2004 historical War film.

  828. Troy men will be wearing skirts, by next summer pit set at the

  829. time. That's my prediction and

  830. Proclamation the film answers. To both genders, we're going for

  831. realism and Greeks wore skirts all the time.

  832. That wasn't even the first time the actor War, traditionally

  833. feminine clothing for a photo op.

  834. At the height of his heart throb days in 1999.

  835. Brad Pitt appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone smoking, a

  836. cigarette, while wearing, a boldly printed dress went pop

  837. singer, Harry Styles started wearing dresses like on the

  838. cover of Vogue, many fans, Drew comparison to pits photoshoot.

  839. Social media was divided on pit skirt and jacket combo for the

  840. premier. One podcaster said, just when

  841. you think Brad Pitt, couldn't get any sexier he wears a skirt.

  842. Another person said all the dinosaurs a guest today at Brad

  843. Pitt in a skirt. I freaking love it.

  844. Personally pit previously told his Squire that his personal

  845. approach to style values Comfort above all other things.

  846. He said this you get older you get crankier and comfort becomes

  847. more important. I think it's as simple as that.

  848. I don't want to look ostentatious but if you come

  849. close you notice I like how the lining.

  850. Feels those details that are important to me too exhausting

  851. to follow trends. I think it's pretty interesting

  852. that a lot of women use the exact same excuse for why they

  853. wear pants. But, you know, there's a lot of

  854. arguments to that. Well, obviously your male

  855. chauvinist, you know, it doesn't have anything to do with

  856. control. It has everything to do with

  857. trying to be scripturally obedient, right regardless of

  858. whether well you know because people say that you what your

  859. church is never going to grow. You're always going to have a

  860. small church and honestly, it's probably true.

  861. That's probably true. But it's not about church

  862. growth. It doesn't have anything to do

  863. with how big we are or The size that we are anything like that

  864. it has everything to do with obedience.

  865. Well I can see your church is made up of legalistic dinosaurs,

  866. you know? And I think people should run

  867. screaming out of that controlling atmosphere and again

  868. you can take it to a whole far extreme and and we'll leave it

  869. at that but you know I'm certainly not trying to chase

  870. anybody out am not going to speak harshly about you or

  871. anything like that and but but, but you're still going to have

  872. to answer to God, someday for Deuteronomy 22:5 and How you

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  873. responded to it, right? And and again, It comes down to

  874. the idea that my wife. And honestly you know my I grew

  875. up with this standard so for me it was not something that I'd

  876. never heard of before. It was not something that I that

  877. was foreign to me. But when I met my wife and you

  878. know, I honestly had my wife worn pants when we met.

  879. I probably would have said, you know, what fine do that?

  880. Then it doesn't doesn't bother me, but she had that standard

  881. and it was, it was not something that That she took lightly, it

  882. was something that she took very seriously and over the years.

  883. I've come especially through studying these things out myself

  884. to get to the point where it is important that we do this, it's

  885. important that we have that as a standard.

  886. And you know, and I know the argument, you know, if that's a

  887. rule I'll keep it at church. But I'm going to live how I want

  888. you the rest of the week and you can't stop me.

  889. And you're right, I can't stop you.

  890. And I wouldn't try to stop you, I, you know, but I think we need

  891. to have that desire to grow. Grace to grow in Holiness.

  892. It's an inward Grace that works its way out, not just that

  893. church. Like obviously, you've never

  894. seen my wife and a pair of pants because it's not just that

  895. church. It's at Walmart, it's on the

  896. sidewalk, it's at home, it's everywhere because it's a

  897. reflection of who you are, not just something you do.

  898. And I think that's I think that that mindset has been projected

  899. on people in churches for so long.

  900. This is something you do. That it that it becomes just

  901. something you do rather than something that you are Melissa.

  902. Nobody is nobody is happier than I am that.

  903. This is the last lesson in this series.

  904. I'm not trying to make you unhappy, I'm not trying to make

  905. you uncomfortable. I'm not trying to make you

  906. angry, but as we've looked at this whole idea of clothing has

  907. a moral, use the Bible principle of modesty.

  908. Clearly enters into that closing clothing has it and it has

  909. enough. Aesthetic, use the Bible

  910. principle of vanity clearly enters into that.

  911. We've talked about both of those principal and clothing has an

  912. identifying use, and that's what we're talking about tonight.

  913. The Bible principles related to looking like a Christian and

  914. looking like a man or looking like a woman clearly enter into

  915. that. And again, it doesn't have to

  916. just be man, wearing a skirt, right?

  917. There's a lot of ways that men today are looking a whole lot

  918. more effeminate than they ever have.

  919. And you know, the idea of the skinny jeans and, you know, all

  920. these tight clothes and you know, just there's a lot of

  921. different things and honestly I'm just I am I am perplexed by,

  922. you know, even in churches that I knew for many years to be

  923. good, churches, how the guys are all running around.

  924. This long floppy hair, thats hanging over their face in their

  925. eyes and they're constantly doing this kind of stuff.

  926. That's feminine it's effeminate and it's not it's not something

  927. that is is it's just pushing a line.

  928. To try to look more and more like the world because that's

  929. what they're seeing today, right?

  930. You watch basketball games and that's what you see you watch.

  931. You know, you watch any of these other things.

  932. And that's what you see the guys, how all this long floppy

  933. hair. And, you know, you notice that

  934. the the shorts are getting shorter again, back in the 80s,

  935. when the shorts were, this tall in a basketball game, you know,

  936. they're getting back to that point again, you know, and, and

  937. it's moving back in that direction.

  938. And all of Christianity says, well, this is what Society is

  939. doing. So, this is what we have to do,

  940. too. We move with Society rather than

  941. there should be, one thing that will never change and of course

  942. that's the word of God, but that should be American Christianity.

  943. Does not matter. What Society does, it does not

  944. matter what society says it does not matter.

  945. What changes in our world there should be one thing that never

  946. changes and that should be Christians because we basically

  947. are basing it on the word of God, but we change and we flow

  948. with society and we're Society starts doing this.

  949. We float down hill with And we might create a little bit of a

  950. Ripple by pushing back, just a little bit against that but

  951. we're all floating in that same direction and at some point we

  952. have to stand up in the middle of the river and say let the

  953. world flow around us. I'm not moving from this spot

  954. and that's honestly what this idea of standards and

  955. convictions is all about. We should be different.

  956. We should be distinct especially in a world.

  957. That is trying to tell us that we have to be the same as them.

  958. Something has to be different. Something has to change and It

  959. shouldn't be us. Let the world change.

  960. Let the rest of American so-called Christianity change.

  961. We need to hold a line that we've been given in the word of

  962. God. So your religion is inward.

  963. Yes, but it's also outward it's inside out and it's important

  964. that God's people apply that to our appearance.

  965. Not going to talk not going to do any more lessons on this.

  966. Although there's probably a lot of other things that we could

  967. say a lot more verses that we could look at, I believe we've

  968. covered it sufficiently. But think about it, pray about

  969. it. It's something that has to be a

  970. decision that you make on your own.

  971. Because again, if obviously, we're going to have a standard

  972. for our church. So when you're working in a

  973. Ministry, this is the standard that you have to have because

  974. this is who we are and you representing the church but

  975. everywhere else, that's your choice.

  976. You decide what you're going to follow, and what?

  977. You're not going to follow what you're going to be, and what

  978. you're not going to be. And again, it's the whole he's

  979. it's if I can convince you, or if I can tell you that, you have

  980. to do that, then the moment I'm gone or the moment, you're

  981. somewhere else. It's going to change again

  982. because somebody will convince you the other way or you don't

  983. have to do it anymore because you're no longer under those

  984. rules or whatever. So I'm not going to tell you

  985. what you can and can't do when you are.

  986. On your own when you're when you're at your home when you're

  987. doing the things that you're going to do.

  988. But but I think it's something that you ought to seriously

  989. consider from the word of God, especially in light of what we

  990. talked about tonight when it comes to this idea of

  991. Distinction. So modesty, yes, but also

  992. distinction and those two go hand-in-hand and they help us to

  993. become an end to be exactly what God wants us to be.

  994. There is there's a lot of things that I that are more important

  995. than that in the Bible, right? There's a lot of doctrines that

  996. that are that are more important than this.

  997. Idea of modesty and standards and convictions and all that

  998. stuff. Although the idea of Standards

  999. your convictions is not just, you know, we tend to associate,

1000. you know, what you wear with standards but there's a lot of

1001. standards and there's a lot of convictions and things that we

1002. can have. So that's a broad term.

1003. But you know that's something that that the Holy Spirit has to

1004. convince you about and something that you really need to pray

1005. about it. Something that you that you

1006. really need to search out and figure out if there is something

1007. more to it than maybe the way that you've always done it.

1008. Let's pray and then we'll sing Our Song and be dismissed.

1009. Thank you for listening. I know it's especially if you've

1010. not heard it before, it's not an easy thing to listen to.

1011. And for me like I've mentioned is not an easy thing for me to

1012. preach because I know I'm talking to people who have never

1013. heard it before and who in a lot of ways may not like it, I'm not

1014. trying to make you. Like I said, I'm not trying to

1015. make you angry. I'm not trying to trying to

1016. ruffle any feathers or anything like that, but because it's in

1017. the word of God. God and and something that we

1018. need to talk about and something that you need to consider.

  1019. Let's pray and we'll sing, I'll be dismissed.

1020. Father we love you again. We thank you for your goodness

1021. to us. Thank you for the truth that we

1022. have in the word of God. I pray that you'd help each one

1023. of us in our pursuit of Holiness to be as right with you.

1024. As we possibly can be and God where we where we are, I pray

1025. that you help us to change it not even in just this Serie but

1026. in others sometimes we may go over board on some things and if

1027. we're error if we're airing in those things and I pray that you

1028. help us to change where we underperform in the things that

1029. you want us to do. I pray that you help us to

1030. change them and especially in relation to this idea that we're

1031. talking about with standards of dress God, I pray that you would

1032. help us to to have the holy spirit's leading in our lives,

1033. on these issues and on these things that we could be

1034. convinced of them, one way or another and that you Is it in

1035. our hearts? And I pray that you would help

1036. us to be that Solid Rock of Christianity.

1037. Not for the sake of just standing up, not for the sake of

1038. trying to be noticed or anything like that.

1039. But for the sake of holding the truth of the word of God in

1040. every area that we find in the Bible.

1041. And I pray that you help us to be Christians that you can use

1042. because of it, not not for the sake of just being noticed, not

1043. for the sake of just being different, or standing up in

1044. some ways or whatever God. You know what my heart is on

  1045. this. Issue.

1046. I'll pray that you help us to be different because we want to be

1047. right, but it's obviously be different because we want to be

1048. used and I pray that you would use us because of that.

1049. Thank you for all that you do for us in Jesus name.

  1050. Amen.
