  1. I just a couple minutes, it's gonna be a little bit different

  2. tonight. Obviously, we're talking about

  3. the Neo Independent Baptist Movement.

  4. We spent a lot of time talking about what we what it means to

  5. be a Baptist. Then we moved into specifically

  6. what it means to be an independent Baptist.

  7. And now last week we kind of started into this this idea of

  8. the Neo Independent Baptist movement and really just a lot

  9. of a lot of churches, if you will.

  10. But even even people pastors Those who want to change the

  11. Independent Baptist movement from the inside we and looking

  12. at what, it means to be an independent Baptist really

  13. looked at at what it is from. Somebody outside looking in.

  14. And what we're doing here is really taking a very hard

  15. introspective look and there's a lot within the Independent

  16. Baptist movement that want to change it into something that it

  17. was never meant to be. And something that's very

  18. dangerous thing. So I'm going to do a lot of

  19. reading tonight and that's why I say it's A little bit different

  20. mostly because I want to use the exact words of those who are

  21. leading this Neo, Independent Baptist movement.

  22. I'm going to give you what they Define as this new movement.

  23. And that's what they're trying to do is start a new movement

  24. and and how they Define it. And then next week, we're going

  25. to look at an answer to each one of these points.

  26. Its kind of I'm going off of one article in particular that was

  27. written by Josh Tice. I mentioned his name last week

  28. he is one. That is really He's not the only

  29. one by any stretch but he's one, that's kind of headed up this

  30. idea of the Neo Independent Baptist movement and he wrote an

  31. article that listed out all the things that define the Neo

  32. Independent Baptist movement. So I'm gonna I'm gonna base it

  33. off of that article and give you a lot of what he said in that

  34. article tonight. But then the next week, we're

  35. going to look at each one of those individual points and talk

  36. about talk about it from, from our perspective.

  37. And from a perspective of there is no need to change.

  38. Other than maybe some some different philosophy type things

  39. or you know, practical type things maybe.

  40. But as we get into this I think it's important for us to

  41. understand a couple things in any serious theological

  42. disagreement and make no mistake that.

  43. That's exactly what this is. It's a theological disagreement.

  44. We have to keep several things in mind.

  45. The first one and the most important one is that we always

  46. have to make the scripture the basis for anything that we Say,

  47. or do or stand on, or anything else?

  48. It's also helpful. I think to make sure that we

  49. keep our emotions in check and to think an argue from an

  50. intellectual standpoint rather than from the intellect to the

  51. emotions to the will and it has to be in that order and

  52. hopefully you'll understand that as we go through it.

  53. But I think in addition to those two, I would also add that it's

  54. necessary to make sure we can tell the difference between

  55. friend and foe. For treating a man or a group as

  56. the enemy. When in fact, they're not, and

  57. vice versa has done a lot of harm to the cause of Christ over

  58. the years. And I don't want to make that

  59. mistake as we go through here, but Jude tells us to earnestly

  60. contend for the faith, right? And that's something that we

  61. stand on a lot earnestly contend for the faith and I think that's

  62. absolutely, it's very, very important that we do that.

  63. But as I understand the last two words of that phrase, the faith,

  64. it implies. All the doctrines.

  65. That are taught in the word of God that we're supposed to

  66. believe. Now primarily, if you were to

  67. kind of list some of those things out, well let me ask you

  68. this. Let's let's have a little bit of

  69. interaction tonight. What do you think some of the

  70. primary doctrines of the faith would be?

  71. Maybe you could call them fundamentals of the faith.

  72. And again, there's those last two words, the faith.

  73. What do you think? They would be give me a couple

  74. ideas of some things that you think would be the fundamentals

  75. of the faith? Death, burial and resurrection

  76. of Jesus Christ, fundamental of the faith.

  77. What else? The Virgin?

  78. Birth of Jesus Christ. If Jesus Christ was not born of

  79. a virgin, then we have we don't have a savior, he was not

  80. perfect. If he was not born of a virgin

  81. because that means he came through the, the Earthly line of

  82. Adam and wherefore. As by one man sin entered into

  83. the world and death by sin and so death passed upon all men for

  84. that. All have sinned.

  85. Jesus Christ could not have borne of been born of anything

  86. other than a virgin and still be sinless.

  87. That's another One, what else? Second coming of Jesus Christ.

  88. Yep. What's another one?

  89. Jackson Let the deity of Christ. Yeah.

  90. What's another one? Yeah.

  91. Death burial and Resurrection. Yep, very good.

  92. Anything else? I already mentioned one of them

  93. just a little bit ago. Jackson.

  94. The inerrancy of the Bible, right?

  95. So a lot of those you're hitting on a lot of different things.

  96. The, the literal, Resurrection, the atoning death, the Virgin

  97. birth, you know, the second coming salvation by grace,

  98. through faith. Those are the doctrines that are

  99. critically important to Eternity and between all of us, we hit

  100. all of them. All right?

  101. Tom Brennan, wrote a book. I think I mentioned it.

  102. It's called schizophrenic and I think it's an excellent.

  103. Excellent book. He's, he's an independent

  104. Baptist and has been since since he was born essentially because

  105. Dad was an independent Baptist, pastor, obviously, he came to

  106. the conclusion. A lot of these conclusions on

  107. his own and God called him into the ministry and he's been a

  108. pastor for quite some time himself.

  109. But he wrote a book called schizophrenic.

  110. That basically says, this is everything that's right, with

  111. the Independent Baptist movement.

  112. This is everything that's wrong. We don't need to throw the baby

  113. out with the bathwater. We need to change the things

  114. that are wrong and Shore up the things that are right and

  115. there's a whole lot more things that are right then that are

  116. wrong but in that book schizophrenic he kind of

  117. mentioned some of these Fundamental doctrines.

  118. And then he said this beyond that, as an independent Baptist,

  119. I hold the other doctrines that I think the Bible clearly

  120. teaches and that are also important.

  121. But at the bare minimum, the man who holds these doctrines is my

  122. brother in Christ. We share.

  123. We shall share Heaven someday. He is not my enemy, though.

  124. I may differ with him on a veritable plethora of other

  125. things is an Orthodox, Christian not in a denominational sense,

  126. but in a doctrinal sense. So to put it plainly, Josh

  127. Tyson, In these other guys and and really I'm not I'm not

  128. really using any other names. He's the main one that is

  129. leading this independent Baptists Neo Independent Baptist

  130. movement so he's the de facto head if you will but Josh Titus

  131. and the movement that he represents are not the enemy and

  132. I want to make sure that that's clear.

  133. If Jesus tarries his coming, we're both going to die someday.

  134. And we're both going to stand before Christ and we're both

  135. looking for to hear God. Say Well done thou good and

  136. faithful servant. Right.

  137. Are, you know, everything about our lives, that tail of Our

  138. Lives, if you will, is not told yet.

  139. But it's reasonable to expect that that he along with us.

  140. Well, hear well done, thou good and faithful servant the my, you

  141. know, the pastor across town. Whoever that happens to be that

  142. is that is morphing. His traditional Independent

  143. Baptist Church into something other than what we've always

  144. stood for something that he thinks is new or that he thinks

  145. is better is going to walk the same golden streets that we do.

  146. Now he's going to eat from the same, you know, tree with 12

  147. fruits that we do. He's going to you know, he's

  148. going to kneel before the same Throne of God that we do.

  149. So we have to understand that they're not the enemy.

  150. They're not the ones that we're fighting against.

  151. He they are not the enemy there, there are Brethren.

  152. The devil is the enemy. There's nothing that he would

  153. like to do more than completely separate Christians, amongst

  154. each other, because the divided force is not going to stand now.

  155. Not only are these men, not the enemy.

  156. I think there are some things that, that, that are that there

  157. are two like about them. You start, especially you get to

  158. know some of these guys and I know, so I don't know, Josh

  159. theis personally have never met him, only things that I've read

  160. that he's written and only things that I've read about

  161. that. You know, some of these other

  162. men that have participated in some of the things that he's

  163. done, and I've read them. So I feel like I have a pretty

  164. good understanding of who he is, even though I have not met.

  165. But I know a lot of guys who are just like him and who really

  166. look up to him and really have that same kind of mindset and on

  167. a personal level. Most of these guys are

  168. relatable, they're not arrogant, you know, there.

  169. And that's one of the things that kind of makes them

  170. influential. They're nice guys, you know, and

  171. and they really have a genuine heart for people and and I think

  172. some of those kind of things are what makes them a little bit

  173. disarming? You know, man, how can they be

  174. that wrong? They're so nice, you know, and

  175. they are a lot of them are that way.

  176. They're very friendly, they're Approachable that they're just

  177. as willing to listen as they are to speak.

  178. But I think like like a lot of younger men in the Independent

  179. Baptist movement, they've seen the damage that's been reached

  180. on families by men of the previous generation who were

  181. married to the church and they were to their wife and let their

  182. kids essentially grow up and live.

  183. However, they wanted to didn't train their children.

  184. And the sad thing is we this is not just 70s 80s, 90s thing.

  185. This is something that you see that goes all the way back to

  186. the 40s and the 50s. 50s. And I mean, you know, Billy

  187. Sunday, Billy Sunday's, kids and Billy Sunday was really

  188. well-known, really Sunday's kids.

  189. I don't even know if they were saved.

  190. Others, who were very well-known evangelist and very well-known

  191. pastors throughout the the, you know, the really the 20th

  192. century had kids, who never grew up and lived for God because

  193. they were more married to the ministry than they were to their

  194. wife and more concerned about what happened in the church, and

  195. they were about what happened with their family and forgot,

  196. their primary Ministry is their family.

  197. But Josh, tell you so I think, you know, leads in that I can't

  198. find fault in the way that he handles himself with his family

  199. and and, you know, I can't speak for how?

  200. Well, he's rearing his family, if you will.

  201. But you know, seems like he and his wife get along.

  202. Well, they have a loving relationship, and and that's not

  203. something that you can fault them for looking at it.

  204. On the ministry side, I think there's a commitment to really

  205. to an accurate knowledge of history and and I think they're

  206. trying to do their best with some of these things.

  207. That they have. And I think at the end of the

  208. day, I do think that they have a passion for Souls where they're,

  209. where they're off and where they're wrong, is in the way

  210. that they go about it. And that's what we're going to

  211. talk about, a lot of these different things.

  212. But so if they're not the enemy and they have things to like

  213. about them, then why bring division where there ought to be

  214. Unity, right? There's a lot of people that

  215. would ask that question. Well, if they're, they're so

  216. nice. And if they have a passion for

  217. souls and everything else, then why even bring this stuff up.

  218. Why even why even caused a division where there should be a

  219. Unity? And I think this is where we

  220. come to Galatians Chapter 2 and as soon as I mentioned this,

    Galatians 2 chapter mention

  221. you're going to know where we're going with this.

  222. But Peter and Paul were brothers to write, they share the same

  223. Heritage, the same Doctrine. The same Faith, they were

  224. co-laborers, they were serving God.

  225. Together with great ability with great sincerity with great

  226. devotion. But the Bible says, in Galatians

    Galatians 2 chapter mention

  227. Chapter 2, and verse number 12, but when Peter was come to,

  228. Antioch course, Paul speaking here, I withstood him to the

  229. face because he was to be blamed For before that certain came

  230. from James, he did eat with the Gentiles but when they were

  231. come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them, which

  232. were of the circumcision and the other Jews dissembled likewise

  233. with him insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their

  234. dissimulation. Well, they Brothers.

  235. Yes, where they enemies? Absolutely not.

  236. They were working together for the cause of the gospel and Paul

  237. had power. I think in a lot of ways, Peter

  238. had power, Barnabas had power, but Paul felt it was necessary.

  239. Not to just disagree with Peter, but to actually do that

  240. forcefully. He withstood him to the face.

  241. The Bible says, and publicly essentially what he's saying is,

  242. I said this to Peter before everybody because he needed to

  243. be rebuked publicly because of what he was doing, why was that?

  244. Because there was a lot of other Jews that dissembled likewise

  245. with him. Even Barnabas was taken away in

  246. what Peter had done. And basically, if you didn't

  247. catch what, what Paul was saying is, you know, Pete I had no

  248. problem heat within the eating with the Gentiles, the way that

  249. he was you know, that he should because Jesus Christ came to

  250. save the Gentiles. Well, when James came all the

  251. sudden Peter didn't want anything to do with the Gentiles

  252. anymore. He would only eat with the Jews,

  253. right? And Paul was saying you're dead

  254. wrong in that. That was that a doctrinal issue.

  255. No, not necessarily, it's not a doctrinal issue at all, but the

  256. problem doesn't just lie in the disagreements that I may, or may

  257. not have with somebody that's in another church or another

  258. Pastor, or what another brother in Christ does in his church,

  259. it's the influence that spreading out from those

  260. churches and amongst those men, and who they are influencing.

  261. And it's the Next Generation, especially, but it's even those

  262. in their same generation that they're influencing, as well as

  263. so, it's eventually going to take over.

  264. So the movement that Josh Titus is forming around himself and

  265. other like-minded men really holds the potential to carry a

  266. tremendous really carry away a tremendous number of solid men

  267. and strong churches. And I think I should add that

  268. probably not even the just a potential that it's actually

  269. happening. They are carrying these men away

  270. and we're seeing it happen. Amongst men that have been in

  271. the ministry for even even 4 years, 20. 30 years changing

  272. Bible versions and changing the way that they're doing.

  273. Everything in their churches to the point where they really

  274. don't even look like a Baptist Church anymore, let alone an

  275. independent Baptist Church. But in just a short time, we've

  276. really witnessed a very radical changes and it's not just about

  277. where the Neo Independent Baptist movement is at its,

  278. where is this Neo, Independent Baptist movement going?

  279. And who are they taking with them?

  280. Where is it heading the number of God's people that are that

  281. are going along with it. And that's why this is not some

  282. little disagreement that we can, you know, sit down and discuss

  283. in private between. In two people, this is something

  284. that has very, very big implications and the longer this

  285. movement goes on. The more we are seeing the

  286. impact that this movement is having, because what happens is,

  287. You have these churches, let's just take a charge.

  288. For example let's say this church has 300 people in it and

  289. we're seeing this happen all over the place.

  290. I can think of right now. Five churches off the top of my

  291. head that are in this situation right now, have 300 people in

  292. the church, the pastor starts to really jump in.

  293. On these ideas of, you know, what we need to be more, we need

  294. to be less biblical truth and more, you know, pragmatic the

  295. ends justifies, the means so some things that we May really,

  296. you know, it's a gray area on whether we should do it or not.

  297. Well, if it's going to get people in, then we'll do it.

  298. So they start changing everything.

  299. They relax all the services. And now, you know, now you have

  300. people up there leading in skinny jeans in a collared

  301. shirt, untucked right. And then and then next thing,

  302. you know there's a band up on the stage and and you know

  303. there's seven or eight people standing up there with

  304. microphones on the stage and then the, you know, then the

  305. standards of dress start to change and Then the next thing,

  306. you know they don't look any different than a some

  307. nondenominational church, right? And then the Bible changes and

  308. then everything else just follows right behind that, okay,

  309. that church changed, but guess what?

  310. You have 300 people in that church.

  311. Now, you're strong ones who believe only in the King James

  312. and who are not following that contemporary crowd and

  313. everything else. Down that path or going to

  314. leave, they're going to get others in who are in strong.

  315. Churches who don't like the Wrong stand who are going to end

  316. up going over to that church and joining and every whatever else

  317. and they probably will even grow and that church.

  318. That was 300 is now 350 or 400. But what happens is all the

  319. young people that are growing up in that church?

  320. Don't know about the stand that used to be.

  321. So where some people might say, well that's a little farther

  322. than I'm willing to go with it and this is, you know, that

  323. church is going in that direction.

  324. But this is not as far as we're going to go, but we're going to

  325. stay here that that next generation of kids is being So

  326. influenced by that and does not know the heritage of where they

  327. came from and they're going to be full-blown contemporary

  328. churches if they grow up and even stay in church.

  329. But if they grow up and get called into the ministry, that's

  330. what they're going to start. It's not going to be anything

  331. close to an independent fundamental Baptist Church.

  332. It's going to be a non-denominational Neo

  333. contemporary church at the beginning and then who knows

  334. where it goes from there. And we haven't been far enough

  335. into this yet to see where it's all going to lead, but you can

  336. look at it and say, this is where it's going and this is the

  337. danger in it. So it's very, very important

  338. that we have. This conversation is a

  339. conversation that's not only worth having, but it must be had

  340. if we're going to save that next generation and be in the in the

  341. direction that God wants us to go turn over to Second

    2 Chronicles 12 chapter mention

  342. Chronicles, chapter 12. Because the consequences of a

  343. departure from our traditional approach to church and Ministry

  344. have to be examined and they have to be weighed.

  345. And to fail in this is to fail in our responsibility, to each

  346. other, to the truth, to Future generations.

  347. To the very God at whose feet were all going to Bow someday.

  348. God gave the same responsibility to the men of the tribe of

  349. issachar and second Chronicles chapter 12 and verse number 32.

    2 Chronicles 12 chapter mention

  350. And of the children of is sekar, which were men that had

  351. understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do.

  352. The heads of them were 200 and all their Brethren were at their

  353. commandment. Now I'm not trying to set up set

  354. up, set us up as some kind of Spiritual Authority, but we do

  355. have to be spiritual Watchman and that involves paying

  356. attention to what's going on in the independent fundamental

  357. Baptist world and in these other churches and pointing out the

  358. errors in it. I just want to see our church

  359. church is do well in the eyes of God, and in the lives of a

  360. desperately need Humanity. There's no long-term.

  361. Good to be gained by heading down these this.

  362. Now well-worn path of the Contemporary movement.

  363. No, good. And a lot of grief and I've seen

  364. that happen in just a very short time that this contemporary

  365. movement has been around. And I don't know if I make 20

  366. years, might even be too long you know but it's still a

  367. problem. Started back around that time.

  368. But within the last 10 years, really, you've really seen a lot

  369. of these churches moving in that direction and it's these solid

  370. Independent Baptist Churches, who started weakening their

  371. stand. And now that generation, who was

  372. growing up and almost grown. During that time moved and

  373. started their own churches. And now, they've taken that semi

  374. strong stand. And we can add even more.

  375. And now they're the pastor's of those churches, who are

  376. weakening that stand even more to where the, to the Point where

  377. the generation that they're raising.

  378. Now is going to be so weak, they won't even be able to stay in

  379. Period, let alone be able to stand on the truth of the word

  380. of God. Having said that this is a

  381. quote. And in fact, here's what I want

  382. you to do, as we go through this tonight, I'm not going to take a

  383. lot of time tonight after this, but We're going to go through

  384. all of these points next week and look at them from a Biblical

  385. perspective and you'll see where we're going with this.

  386. Once I start into it here in just a minute but I want you to

  387. see if you can discern for yourself and I told you that

  388. we're going to do. I'm going to do a decent amount

  389. of reading tonight. And I am because I want you to

  390. hear it from them from just ice and for you know as really the

  391. de facto leader of this Neo, Independent Baptist movement,

  392. but see if you can discern for yourself, some things that are

  393. wrong with what this group is defining.

  394. As their Neo Independent Baptist group.

  395. All right? Having said that this is a quote

  396. from Josh theis. He said this, I'm optimistic

  397. about the future of the Independent Baptist movement.

  398. I'm excited when I meet the next generation of men who are

  399. currently inheriting pulpits from their accomplished

  400. predecessors. A thrill that every young Church

  401. planter who shares amazing stories of God's grace in their

  402. local Ministry. Young evangelist who refuse to

  403. engage in denominational politics.

  404. Inspire me, I'm encouraged by Young missionaries who are

  405. decidedly. Not Preferring rather to

  406. contextualize the gospel ministry as taught by the

  407. Apostle Paul. These are the new Independent

  408. Baptist and they are and here's the points that he lays out and

  409. that's what we're going to go through.

  410. So the first thing is he says that they're obsessed with the

  411. gospel. Romans 1:16 he quotes there.

    Romans 1:16

  412. I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for it is the power of

  413. God and salvation to everyone. That believeth this is this is

  414. what he says, people do not change because they start coming

  415. to our church. People change because they have

  416. a supernatural interaction. Gospel of Jesus Christ.

  417. This is the power that transforms a person's Destiny

  418. from Hell To Heaven. This is the power that brings

  419. life to the dead spirit. This is the power that slowly

  420. conforms an individual into the image of Christ.

  421. It is the preaching of the Gospel.

  422. That brings true change. This is why we bristle at

  423. preaching that minimizes God's work and maximizes man's effort.

  424. We understand that true change will only come to an

  425. individual's life as they quote, grow, in Grace, and in deeper,

  426. understanding of Jesus, not when they are subjected to an

  427. artificial list of Holiness based on personal preferences.

  428. Now again, this is what I want you to try to do tonight guy.

  429. That's that's the first point that he says, they're obsessed

  430. with the gospel. And I'm not saying that every

  431. one of these is wrong or all wrong at least.

  432. So what I want you to do is think about these things as I've

  433. read through them. And as we list these points and

  434. see where you stand on those things, see what you can discern

  435. from those things. See what you think is right

  436. about those things and what you think is wrong about those

  437. things, all right? I'm asking you to to

  438. spiritually. CERN if you will.

  439. Okay. And then I'm not going to tell

  440. you what you have to believe next week but I'm going to give

  441. you some things that I see that are that are right and some

  442. things many things that are wrong with what he's talking

  443. about here. But the second thing then that

  444. he says this new Independent Baptist movement is Neo.

  445. Independent Baptist movement is is committed to the preaching,

  446. the Bible and he quotes 2nd, Timothy 4:2, preach the word be

  447. instant in season out of season reprove rebuke, exhort with all

  448. long-suffering and Doctrine. And by the way, maybe I should

  449. point out that what he's saying in his definitions of these

  450. things, is that this is what we are, essentially.

  451. This is what the old independent Baptists are not.

  452. Okay. But he says this wheel of

  453. expository preaching, we desire to expose what the Bible is

  454. actually saying we loathe, the practice of twisting a scripture

  455. to fit a preconceived idea, some of us expose the scripture

  456. through sequentially preaching through entire books of The

  457. Bible, taking great care to understand each passage within

  458. its proper context. Others prefer a systematic

  459. approach that allows for sermon series.

  460. That comprehensively deals with a specific topic or doctrine.

  461. In both cases, the new Independent Baptist takes great

  462. interest in being true to the original intent of the author.

  463. This is why we dismiss preachers who continually misappropriate

  464. the very word of God at best. These men are naive at worst.

  465. They are knowingly, prostituting the word for personal profit.

  466. I want to say a lot but I'm not going to for the sake of saving

  467. it for next week. But think about that.

  468. Think about think about how he's saying, I know we're going

  469. through it kind of quickly but think about what they're talking

  470. about in speaking and talking about the word of God

  471. contextually. And you know the the idea of

  472. being true to the original intent of the author.

  473. I'll tell you exactly what that does.

  474. It opens it up for you to take any version of the Bible that

  475. you want to take? Because now you're being true to

  476. the intent. Not to the very words of God.

  477. The third thing that they say is that they are men of unity who

  478. despise hyper separatism men of unity who despise hyper

  479. separatism. A quote John. 13:35 by this

    John 13:35

  480. shall all men know that ye are my disciples if you have love

  481. one to another, sadly he says. Our movement has been identified

  482. by a misappropriation of one passage about separation while

  483. ignoring so many others about Unity.

  484. These are the hyper separatist. Not only do they separate from

  485. Godly leaders outside of our denomination.

  486. They actively attack fellow Independence.

  487. This has led our movement to divide into Splinter camps of

  488. varying influence in size as if that's not what they're doing

  489. with this whole movement. This has led our movement to

  490. divide into Splinter camps of varying influence in size.

  491. Each group seems to demand complete Here in Synod, only

  492. fundamentals of theology but also to complete agreement in

  493. secondary doctrinal issues, but they go even farther.

  494. They also want uniformity and personal convictions.

  495. And preferential issues like worship style, service

  496. scheduling, building design and Pulpit.

  497. Attire to question. The status quo, bring suspicion

  498. to express, disagreement brings Swift separation.

  499. However, this is changing, the new Independent Baptist is less

  500. enamored with uniformity and more dedicated to Unity.

  501. The the litmus test for Fellowship has nothing to do

  502. with genes versus ties. Hymns versus CCM or Sunday

  503. School versus small groups. We understand that the world is

  504. going to hell and if we are going to reach them, it's going

  505. to take a wide range of doctrinally sound churches that

  506. are going to look extremely different from one another.

  507. It's not only acceptable, it is preferable.

  508. Think about that for a second. I'll give it a, I'll give you a

  509. second to let it sink in about the things that he's talking

  510. about is minimizing everything that, that separates us from the

  511. world. It's exactly what that is.

  512. We'll talk about that more. The fourth thing.

  513. He says, defines the new Independent Baptist movement or

  514. the Neo Independent Baptist movement is that they are turned

  515. off by denominational politics. First Corinthians, 1:12 and 13.

  516. There are more kundera contentions among you.

  517. Now this, I say that every one of you saith, I am of Paul.

  518. All and having will polish, and I have cephas and I of Christ is

  519. Christ divided. That's the that's the passage

  520. that he uses to talk about denominational politics.

  521. They're turned off by that. He says this one of the great

  522. benefits of being independent, Baptist was supposed to be the

  523. lack of denominational control. Sadly our movement has not

  524. always been able to live up to this ideal.

  525. This is partly due to our proclivity toward the inane,

  526. practice of second-degree, third degree and fourth degree.

  527. Separation fear is a terrible thing for R will lead a man to

  528. say what he doesn't believe in order to, please a Critic.

  529. Fear will cause a man to sacrifice transparency at the

  530. altar of influence. Fear will keep them in quiet

  531. when he ought to speak but he'll call it discretion.

  532. Fear will keep a church planter tied to a denominationally

  533. improved method that produces fewer results.

  534. Instead we choose to be men who are more concerned with freedom

  535. of expression and open dialogue than retaining influence and

  536. pleasing critics. Trust me.

  537. I understand the pressure simply by writing this post.

  538. I'm opening myself. Up to reprisals, but I have

  539. found that speaking. The truth is rewarding,

  540. expressing your position is freeing and saying what you

  541. really think is tremendously liberating transparency, doesn't

  542. seem to limit influence, it seems to expand it.

  543. And in some ways he's right on that.

  544. There are a lot of people who do things the way that they do it,

  545. because they're afraid of what somebody else is going to think

  546. about the way that they do it. He's right in that but we'll

  547. talk about a lot of that stuff. Next week.

  548. The fifth thing that they say is that they're dedicated to Fisk

  549. Coleco nobility. He says in second Timothy 45

  550. make, full proof of thy Ministry at the recent idea day East

  551. there, there were many great truth shared about life in

  552. Ministry. And again, we'll talk about idea

  553. day. Later, one of the greatest

  554. quotes of the day was if the Pastoral staff is afraid of

  555. financial accountability. There's a problem far, too many

  556. churches have been destroyed by a pastoral staff on willing to

  557. adopt strict Financial policies. Overspending misappropriation of

  558. funds and even outright theft have brought many churches down

  559. I And great comfort in knowing that this trend is dying away.

  560. In Independent Baptist Church is due to the humility of pastors

  561. and the hard work of deacons. We are to lead in the coming

  562. century and we ought to remove the temptation of financial

  563. corruption. the next one he says is that there are well read no

  564. Pride should be taken in ignorance.

  565. We should primarily be, well, read in the scriptures for they

  566. contain what is needed for life and Ministry, but we should also

  567. be well, read in history science, literature leadership

  568. and pop culture. One of the things I love about

  569. the young Independent Baptist in whom, God, is bringing me in

  570. contact. Is their Readiness to grow.

  571. They're not in bondage to index. Liberum, prohibit, or mm, as was

  572. instituted by the Roman Catholic Church, they read broadly,

  573. always being careful to filter. New thoughts for the inspired

  574. word, this allows them to reach a broader swath of people within

  575. their cultural setting. It also allows them to challenge

  576. their presupposed point of view points of view again.

  577. You know, I don't want to get into it tonight.

  578. Number seven just getting started.

  579. Is what he says. Is something that defines the

  580. Neo Independent Baptist movement, Acts 1:8, you shall

    Acts 1:8

  581. receive power after that. The Holy Ghost is come upon you

  582. and you shall be Witnesses unto me, both in Jerusalem and in all

  583. Judea and in Samaria and unto the uttermost parts of the

  584. earth, he says our generation is just getting started, the world

  585. stands before us. In desperate need of Jesus

  586. Christ, we hold the solution to the world's problems and we are

  587. ready to give him away. We're willing to do anything.

  588. It takes to please, our Lord in advance his kingdom.

  589. We're just now arriving on the foreign field.

  590. We're just now launching our church plant.

  591. We're just now inheriting the established Pulpit.

  592. We are just now beginning to see the possibilities for a

  593. worldwide evangelism. The future is bright the next 40

  594. years, belong to us. Will we be the generation that

  595. turns the nation's back to Christ?

  596. I believe we can for we are just getting started.

  597. Essentially, you see what he's saying here?

  598. Is that essentially all the work of of all the independent

  599. Baptist in all the Baptist Churches before him Have done.

  600. What? Essentially we just took over

  601. and we're just getting started. Sharing the gospel.

  602. We're just getting started. You know, turning all these

  603. churches into what we are is what he's saying.

  604. You know, and I want you to mold those things over this week and

  605. think about some of those things.

  606. And we'll talk about them next week.

  607. But before we end tonight, He wrote this, he wrote this

  608. article and then he published, I think he probably said on a Blog

  609. that he does think, that's where I saw it originally.

  610. But the, the list of responses to that article is just, I mean,

  611. it goes on for days and days and days.

  612. And I went down the rabbit hole so that other people don't have

  613. to and read a bunch of those responses.

  614. And I'm not one that I don't do a lot on Facebook, and I don't

  615. get into arguments with people on.

  616. Line, I just don't do it. There's a lot of things where

  617. I'm like, I want to say this but it's not worth it, it's not

  618. worth it so I don't. But I filled her a lot of these

  619. things through my own, through the word of God and these

  620. different responses and everything else.

  621. But here's one that I came across that I felt I needed to

  622. read for its Clarity because We're going to break all these

  623. things down. One at a time.

  624. And there's a lot that you probably don't know about these

  625. guys and and because maybe you don't, maybe you've never really

  626. looked into it before at all, but a lot of these a lot of

  627. people have questioned. Josh Titus, if you hate the

  628. things that the Independent Baptist and for then why are you

  629. still in Independent Baptist or are you still an independent

  630. Baptist and in response to that? He wrote another whole article

  631. about that. He basically said, yes, I'm

  632. still an independent Baptist because even though I see that

  633. there's tons of problems in the Independent Baptist movement or

  634. the Independent Baptist, Churches there's problems in all

  635. denominations and if I'm just basically, if I changed and

  636. became anything else I'd be jumping out of the frying pan

  637. into the fire, right? So so I'm just going to stay an

  638. independent Baptist but he's not.

  639. That's not what in? And we talk about all these

  640. things. That's not what Independent

  641. Baptist stand for. So you're not you can claim to

  642. be an independent Baptist and in some ways I guess he kind of is

  643. because there is nothing that you know is a set of rules to be

  644. or not to be. Independent Baptist, but that's

  645. not what Independent Baptist and for and they're moving so fast

  646. and so far away from that Foundation.

  647. This guy says it great. He says I don't know who this

  648. guy is but I loved his response and this is what we'll end with.

  649. He said there are many things that I've seen growing up that I

  650. have that. I have a great dislike for many

  651. of which has been mentioned. I've never seen or known any

  652. movement, Southern Baptist, SBC, Southern Baptist Church,

  653. nondenominational emergent, Etc, to be perfect.

  654. I've also come to recognize many things that I'm thankful for it.

  655. You see? It was in the independent

  656. fundamental Baptist summer camps.

  657. That I came to know the Lord as my My Savior and since the

  658. moving of God, in my life to surrender to be a preacher of

  659. the Gospel, it was through the teachings of the scripture by

  660. men of God, that I learned a Biblical Holiness and biblical

  661. separation. It was at the independent

  662. fundamental Baptist conferences were God's stirred.

  663. My heart to live for him. I'm not one to go.

  664. Pick a fight. I believe in being truly

  665. independent, but not a recluse. I'm not in anybody's back pocket

  666. and I'm nobody's boy. But my dad's being an

  667. independent Baptist means something, if we were truly

  668. independent, or we wanted Unity. Then why write an article that

  669. brings more Division and starts a new camp?

  670. These types of Articles? Do not reinforce our

  671. independence but rather begins to lump people into camps.

  672. If you're truly an independent Baptist, then why are there so

  673. many Southern Baptist guys commenting on this blog.

  674. I really don't care what the Southern Baptist Church or the

  675. NEOS do until they poke their nose where it doesn't belong.

  676. Why does your article reach into the hearts of the Southern

  677. Baptist Church? The nondenominational crowd, the

  678. Neo crowd? They want nothing to To do with

  679. our crowd except when we send them the folks that were saved

  680. in our churches, they wanted nothing to do with us until an

  681. article is written by one who claims to be an independent

  682. Baptist that tickles their ear. The Lord does not build churches

  683. that look like a club and sounds like the rock concert from

  684. Saturday night. Those churches are built by men.

  685. Josh, if you're going a Direction, go, why do you need

  686. to see a? Why do you see a need and trying

  687. to influence a movement if you're so independent?

  688. Over the years, I've gotten tired of guys trying to be the

  689. next pope of the Independent Baptist, lead your church and

  690. let others leave. There's article was as much

  691. about what new things you like as it was about the old things.

  692. You don't like you don't like it, leave it and be what you

  693. are. But don't try to say, you're an

  694. independent Baptist when you look like a Southern Baptist

  695. Church, a non-denominational church and emergent Church.

  696. You'll walk like a southern baptist.

  697. Nondenominational emergent Church sound like a southern

  698. baptist. Non-denominational emergent

  699. church I'm not interested in being like them.

  700. Writing articles against them. I don't want them influencing

  701. this generation of young Independent Baptist.

  702. So let me encourage you to go be what you are but stay out of my

  703. Pea Patch. I think I was a great article.

  704. I mean it was just a response but I but that's exactly.

  705. I mean that's my that's my thinking as I'm reading through

  706. this entire article why do you need to create a movement around

  707. yourself if you're so independent and you can go do

  708. what you want to do. Then go be independent to do

  709. what you want to do. Why do you need to create a

  710. movement around yourself, right? I'll tell you why.

  711. It's because they know I know that the direction they're going

  712. is not a good direction and they're trying to justify it.

  713. And the more people you have that you can justify it to the

  714. better, you feel about yourself in the whole thing.

  715. So we're going to talk about all these different points.

  716. We're going to take them one by one and look at them from a

  717. Biblical perspective and see what the problems are with each.

  718. One of these things and then it'll probably it probably will

  719. actually take us another couple weeks on this just because I'll,

  720. this is something that is very, very important.

  721. And I want to us to make sure that we Stand?

  722. Why we're not going in that same direction?

  723. And why were, why were avoiding at all cost going in that same

  724. direction. It's very, very dangerous.

  725. And once you start down that road, you almost can't come back

  726. from it, unless you have a hard break and you split a church and

  727. you lose a ton of people doing it.

  728. And and it's a very, very dangerous dangerous path to

  729. start down and that's why we're not even going to start down

  730. that path, but I think it's important for us to understand

  731. that. There are a lot of churches out

  732. there that are well down that path.

  733. Some that are just turning down that path.

  734. It's dangerous. It's very very dangerous and we

  735. need to understand why. So we'll stop there for tonight.

  736. And then we'll get back into this again next week.

  737. Let's pray. Father, we love you and we thank

  738. you for your goodness to us. I thank you that we do have the

  739. word of God. I pray, not for the sake of

  740. Pride. I pray that it wouldn't be for

  741. the sake of Pride, but for the sake of standing for the truth

  742. and for the sake of being different from this world that

  743. you'd help us to take a stand on the truth of the word of God and

  744. that we wouldn't bend, we wouldn't bout a culture, we

  745. wouldn't bow to the Neo Independent Baptist crowd that

  746. wants every Church to be something different than what it

  747. is. Is God, I pray that you'd help

  748. us to be exactly what you want us to be in this church.

  749. That we'd have a desire for Holiness that we have a desire

  750. to win souls and that because of that, you'd be able to use us in

  751. the way that you want to, and we wouldn't get on our own way and

  752. be a hindrance to the working of the Holy Spirit In This Place.

  753. Well, thank you for all that you do for us in Jesus name.

  754. Amen.
