  1. Chronicles. We're going to start off reading from chapter 5.

  2. 2 Chronicles chapter 5.

    2 Chronicles 5 chapter mention

  3. I'm trying to find a way to stand so that you don't hear the wind so much.

  4. It means you can tell me if you need me any time midway to switch over.

  5. All right, so we're in 2 Chronicles chapter 5.

    2 Chronicles 5 chapter mention

  6. We're going to read from verses 7 through 14.

  7. I'm okay with it being off-centered if you are.

  8. This seems a little better.

  9. 2 Chronicles chapter 5. Let's start reading at verse 7.

    2 Chronicles 5 chapter mention

  10. Let me give a little bit of context or else you might not have any idea where this is going.

  11. Uriel read from us from Hebrews chapter 9.

    Hebrews 9 chapter mention

  12. He was describing how the Lord had a pattern for heavenly worship in heaven.

  13. What was happening at the command of God in the tabernacle was a copy or a figure of that heavenly pattern of worship.

  14. So we're going to fast forward now in the history of Israel.

  15. This is not Moses. This is King Solomon.

  16. And you're going to hear Solomon dedicating the temple of the Lord.

  17. And they hold a massive worship service for the dedication of the temple.

  18. So as we read these few verses and then we're going to walk through about three chapters together, Lord willing, if we can.

  19. Keep in mind, Solomon stands as the king over the people of God.

  20. Solomon is a picture of Jesus Christ ruling over God's people.

  21. So imagine that as you go.

  22. You're back in ancient Israel.

  23. This glorious temple has been built.

  24. And it had been lost.

  25. And so David and Solomon have recovered what had been lost.

  26. They've searched out very carefully the instructions that God gave Moses.

  27. And they've done their best to implement that now for the people of Israel.

  28. So as I read from 2 Chronicles chapter 5 starting at verse 7.

    2 Chronicles 5 chapter mention

  29. Remember this is God's inspired, inerrant, infallible, clear and sufficient word.

  30. It's God's very own word for you, his people.

  31. So when I'm done reading these verses, I'll say this is the word of the Lord.

  32. And if you believe it is, then you say thanks be to God.

  33. All right, we're starting at verse 7.

  34. And the priests brought in the ark of the covenant of the Lord unto his place,

  35. to the oracle of the house, into the most holy place, even under the wings of the cherubims.

  36. For the cherubims spread forth their wings over the place of the ark,

  37. and the cherubims covered the ark and the staves thereof above.

  38. Verse 9.

  39. And they drew out the staves of the ark, that the ends of the staves were seen from the ark before the oracle,

  40. but that they were not seen without, and there it is to this day.

  41. So he's describing the ark of the covenant.

  42. We'll talk about that in a bit.

  43. That had to be brought in by the priests into the holy of holies.

  44. And no one could see inside, but you could see that it was in its place.

  45. Verse 10.

  46. There was nothing in the ark save the two tables which Moses put therein at Horeb,

  47. when the Lord made a covenant with the children of Israel when they came out of Egypt.

  48. What are on those two tables?

  49. Kids, you know this.

  50. It's the Ten Commandments, right?

  51. This is the covenant document, the moral law of God written on tables of stone under the old covenant.

  52. Are we at verse 11?

  53. And it came to pass when the priests were come out of the holy place,

  54. for all the priests that were present there were sanctified and did not then wait by course.

  55. Verse 12.

  56. And the Levites, which were the singers, all of them, of Asaph of Haman and Judithan,

  57. with their sons and their children, being arrayed in white linen,

  58. having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar,

  59. and with them and 120 priests sounding the trumpets.

  60. Can you hear that great sound?

  61. And they're standing at the east of the temple.

  62. That's the way the entrance to the temple faced.

  63. So the people of God were spread out behind them,

  64. and these representatives, professional musicians, came forward.

  65. How many trumpets was that?

  66. 120 trumpets blasting, calling God's people to worship.

  67. Verse 13.

  68. It came to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one,

  69. to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord.

  70. And when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and the cymbals and the instruments of music,

  71. and praised the Lord, they said,

  72. here's what they were singing.

  73. This is the lyrics they sang.

  74. For he is good, for his mercy endureth forever.

  75. That then the house was filled with a cloud,

  76. even the house of the Lord.

  77. How do you know if this was worship pleasing to God?

  78. Look at verse 14.

  79. So that the priest could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud,

  80. for the glory of the Lord had filled up the house of God.

  81. This is the word of the Lord.

  82. Thanks be to God indeed.

  83. You may be seated.

  84. The Bible tells us that the grass withers and the flower fades,

  85. but it's the word of the Lord that endures forever.

  86. Let's pray.

  87. Father, will you teach us the type of worship that pleases you?

  88. We exist to glorify you and to enjoy you.

  89. Teach us what that means, Lord.

  90. Even as a church, as a congregation, as we gather according to the pattern of heaven.

  91. We pray that your word will be clear,

  92. that your word will plant itself deeply in our hearts,

  93. but any word that's not of you, any word of man,

  94. will just fall to the earth and pass away.

  95. Thank you for each one that's here, Father.

  96. We pray that your word will minister,

  97. that you will edify,

  98. and that you will cause us to behold your glory.

  99. We ask this for Christ's sake today.

  100. Amen.

  101. Well, beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  102. my goal today is to walk you through these three chapters of 2 Chronicles

  103. and show you this pattern that God gave Moses.

  104. And it's the pattern we're told in Hebrews,

  105. the pattern of worship in heaven,

  106. and it's put on display in the Old Testament.

  107. And there's something for us to learn here.

  108. That's my prayer.

  109. We're going to get right into it.

  110. I'm going to first try to define worship.

  111. What is it that we're talking about when we say the heavenly pattern of worship?

  112. So we're going to define worship,

  113. and then we're going to illustrate it,

  114. and then I want to try to defend

  115. why I think that this sermon text is appropriate,

  116. even for us as a New Covenant church.

  117. That's setting it up.

  118. Then we're going to walk through 11 elements,

  119. or 11 steps in that heavenly pattern of worship.

  120. So what is worship?

  121. Jerry Bridges defined it this way.

  122. Worship is the act of ascribing to God

  123. the glory, majesty, honor, and worthiness which are His.

  124. So worship is not a style.

  125. Worship is when sinners are called to encounter the living God.

  126. Worship is when sinners can approach the living God that is holy,

  127. and you approach Him on His own terms.

  128. You're worshiping.

  129. Worship is when the Lord God calls you to Himself,

  130. and He paves the way for you to be able to approach Him.

  131. Worship is just that.

  132. It's entering and abiding and dwelling

  133. in the holy presence of God Himself.

  134. Look back at our sermon text.

  135. Look at 2 Chronicles 5, verse 13.

    2 Chronicles 5:13

  136. Did you catch what happens

  137. as they follow this pattern God gave them?

  138. Verse 13 says,

  139. This illustrates what it is to worship.

  140. In verse 14,

  141. this cloud was so intense.

  142. It's the glory presence of God.

  143. It was so powerful that the priest could not stand

  144. to minister because of the cloud.

  145. For the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

  146. Isn't that what we long for?

  147. What we desire every time we worship?

  148. Every time we gather as God's people?

  149. We desire nothing less than that,

  150. that His presence will be with us,

  151. His people,

  152. that we will know He is pleased and accepts us,

  153. and He is with us.

  154. That's what we desire.

  155. The Old Testament uses the Hebrew word Shekinah,

  156. and this is referred to as the Shekinah glory of God.

  157. Shekinah means to dwell.

  158. So it's the glory of God who is spirit.

  159. He doesn't have a body,

  160. but His spiritual glory,

  161. His essence dwells,

  162. and it rests in the middle of His people.

  163. The holy God dwelling with His people.

  164. Isn't that what you desire?

  165. Sinclair Ferguson said that where God is at the center,

  166. worship inevitably follows.

  167. We've also been to gatherings that there was no true spirit of worship,

  168. haven't we?

  169. We've probably all been to times where we felt like,

  170. I, in good conscience,

  171. I need to walk out of here,

  172. walk out of this place,

  173. whatever it is,

  174. because they might be worshiping a different God,

  175. a lesser God,

  176. maybe an idol.

  177. It's not the Lord God of the Bible.

  178. Sinclair Ferguson says,

  179. when the spirit of God is not with His people,

  180. that means God has been displaced.

  181. Something else is being worshiped.

  182. He says that spirit worship does not chase emotions.

  183. It's not a feeling or a worshipful atmosphere.

  184. Jesus says,

  185. worship in spirit and in truth.

  186. We worship in spirit when the spirit of God dwells with His people.

  187. That's what it means to worship in spirit.

  188. It's that God Himself dwells and is at the center of our worship.

  189. And to worship in truth means that it's not a made-up God.

  190. This is the God of the Bible.

  191. This is the God who we know is true because of how He's revealed Himself to us.

  192. So Ferguson says,

  193. worship is theological.

  194. It's never something man can work up.

  195. It is something that God must bring down to us.

  196. Something that flows from the character of God Himself.

  197. Jesus said in John 4.23,

  198. the hour is coming and is now here

  199. when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth

  200. for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him.

  201. That's what Jesus came to reveal.

  202. The Father wants you to worship Him.

  203. And He doesn't want you to worship Him on your own terms.

  204. He wants you to approach Him the way that He has provided.

  205. And it's only through the mediation of Jesus Christ.

  206. He says,

  207. I am the way, the truth, and the life.

  208. No one comes to the Father except through me.

  209. So when we talk about worshiping according to the pattern that is of heaven,

  210. it's Jesus Christ.

  211. It's Jesus Christ through every single element.

  212. And I believe that this is what we're told to do.

  213. We're supposed to go back and read the Old Testament

  214. and to see Jesus Christ held out to us with each one of these steps.

  215. Some will maybe say,

  216. well, we can still, we're in the New Covenant.

  217. We can approach God any way we want now.

  218. I want you to reflect if that is the biblical pattern ever.

  219. Think of Cain.

  220. Abel followed what his parents trained him to do.

  221. Slayed a sheep through the shedding of blood.

  222. He worshiped and the Lord was pleased with Abel's sacrifice.

  223. Cain tried to offer the work of his own hands.

  224. And God did not accept it.

  225. The priest Eli.

  226. This is how close we can be to the true worship that God calls for.

  227. The sons of Eli approach God with a strange fire.

  228. They rejected what God had made clear to them.

  229. And they were found dead,

  230. entering the Holy of Holy on their own terms.

  231. And that's not just an Old Testament pattern.

  232. Jesus Christ himself said,

  233. many will do signs and deeds in my name.

  234. And I will tell them,

  235. away from me, you evildoers,

  236. for I never knew you.

  237. So you and I worship in spirit and truth.

  238. We do it by studying God's word

  239. and submitting to what God has revealed.

  240. We learn from all of God's scripture.

  241. And God calls his people in Romans 12 to be transformed.

  242. How?

  243. By the renewing of your minds.

  244. So to worship God in a way that pleases him,

  245. we must know God's will.

  246. Okay, worship defined.

  247. Next, let me defend why it's appropriate for us

  248. as a new covenant people to learn from this pattern

  249. that God showed Moses because it reflects heaven.

  250. And why can't we turn to 2 Chronicles

  251. and see a heavenly pattern of worship

  252. even for the church today?

  253. We read Hebrews 9,

  254. but Hebrews 8, 5 says that

  255. Israel, under the old covenant,

  256. they served a copy and a shadow

  257. of the heavenly things.

  258. For when Moses was about to lift up the tent,

  259. he was instructed by God saying,

  260. see that you make everything

  261. according to the pattern

  262. that was shown to you on the mountain.

  263. What this means is the New Testament

  264. is interpreting what God did.

  265. Moses was called up onto the holy mountain of God

  266. and God revealed to him the worship of heaven.

  267. God showed him in heaven

  268. the pattern of worship that pleases God.

  269. And then Moses was to come down

  270. and teach the people

  271. and set up through the Mosaic law

  272. the heavenly pattern.

  273. So we really have like a triangle.

  274. In the new covenant,

  275. where we are as a church,

  276. we don't just look back to the Old Testament

  277. and try to imitate

  278. or bring Old Testament law

  279. that's been abrogated.

  280. It's faded away.

  281. We saw that in Hebrews 8.

  282. And that was part of this series as well.

  283. We don't just look there

  284. and try to translate over.

  285. What we do want to do is

  286. look to what God did through Moses

  287. and then it got lost.

  288. And so David and Solomon brought it back

  289. and we want to see

  290. what was reflected in the pattern of heaven from this.

  291. And then we want our worship

  292. to be following that same pattern of heaven now

  293. through Jesus Christ in the full revelation.

  294. So in Exodus chapter 25,

    Exodus 25 chapter mention

  295. it's where the Lord God called the people of Israel

  296. and through Moses standing as the mediator

  297. and he called them to the base of the mountain

  298. and we see a worship service there.

  299. My sermon text is not Exodus 25,

  300. but we'd see that same pattern there.

  301. If we go to the book of Revelation,

  302. you see the same pattern.

  303. And when we think about our order of worship,

  304. our liturgy,

  305. it's the exact same pattern that follows.

  306. So I want to invite you to even look

  307. and try to figure out

  308. as we're going through 2 Chronicles,

  309. where are we in our order of worship,

  310. in our liturgy?

  311. The other reason I think 2 Chronicles is appropriate for us

  312. is because this pattern of worship

  313. that we are trying our best to follow,

  314. this is the consistent pattern

  315. from the second century of the church

  316. all the way to the 17th century.

  317. Consistent pattern.

  318. It was lost in the Middle Ages.

  319. That's why the Reformation was so powerful.

  320. But also consider your experience.

  321. This pattern has been lost again now.

  322. And we need another reformation of the church

  323. returning to heaven's pattern of worship.

  324. And Hebrews 10, 1 says that

  325. this pattern was a shadow

  326. of the good things to come

  327. instead of the true form of these realities.

  328. Jesus Christ is the substance.

  329. And the substance is what casts a shadow back.

  330. It was foreshadowing the finished work of Christ.

  331. So we need to uphold Jesus Christ

  332. and trust that through Christ,

  333. what we're told in 2 Timothy 3 is right,

  334. that all of Scripture,

  335. even 2 Chronicles,

  336. is profitable to the church

  337. for teaching, for reproof, for correction,

  338. and for training up in righteousness.

  339. We need to see Jesus Christ

  340. foreshadowed in every element

  341. of the worship pattern of Israel

  342. because it's patterned after heaven.

  343. All right, we've defined worship.

  344. I've tried to defend why this text

  345. of the Old Testament is still good for us today.

  346. So now we're ready for those 11 movements.

  347. You're going to need to really keep your eyes

  348. on your Bible as we go through this.

  349. Let's start off with 2 Chronicles 5,

  350. but let's go back to verse 2.

  351. We read in verses 2 and 5

  352. that the king had to finish his work

  353. so that the people could worship God.

  354. Now, in this text, it's Solomon.

  355. Solomon is the king.

  356. But fulfilled in Christ,

  357. Jesus Christ, the king,

  358. is who Solomon is standing

  359. as a representative of.

  360. We read that all the work

  361. that Solomon did

  362. for the house of the Lord

  363. was finished.

  364. Solomon brought all the silver,

  365. all the gold,

  366. all the vessels

  367. that David and his father

  368. had dedicated,

  369. and he stored in the treasuries

  370. of the house of God.

  371. He brought it out

  372. into the new temple now

  373. and put everything in place

  374. according to the details and instructions

  375. that God revealed to Moses

  376. on the mountain.

  377. The king had to make sure

  378. the preparations were made

  379. and that all the work

  380. to reflect the pattern of heaven

  381. was finished.

  382. Do you see Jesus Christ in that?

  383. Before we go straight to Christ,

  384. let's touch base

  385. on one other minor prophet on the way.

  386. Haggai.

  387. Haggai told the people of God,

  388. you know the glory.

  389. You've heard legendary stories

  390. about the worship

  391. in the tabernacle

  392. at the mountain.

  393. You've also heard about

  394. the temple under Solomon.

  395. And even after Ezra and Nehemiah

  396. came back and built that temple,

  397. it was nothing compared

  398. to the former glory

  399. that we just read about.

  400. In Haggai, in chapter 2,

  401. he says,

  402. who is left among you

  403. this generation now

  404. that rebelled against God

  405. who saw this house

  406. in its former glory?

  407. See how legendary

  408. this event would have been

  409. for all of the history

  410. of God's people?

  411. And in Haggai,

  412. he reads that the prophecy

  413. of God to his people

  414. is this.

  415. God says,

  416. I am with you too.

  417. He declares the Lord of hosts,

  418. according to the covenant

  419. that I made,

  420. fear not,

  421. fear not,

  422. there is an hour coming.

  423. And I will shake the world.

  424. And our Lord Jesus Christ,

  425. on the cross,

  426. there was an earthquake.

  427. And there was darkness.

  428. The hour had arrived.

  429. Hebrews 9.23 says that

  430. these were copies

  431. of heavenly things.

  432. These copies under Solomon,

  433. all the work that King Solomon

  434. did to finish

  435. and make the temple ready,

  436. it still needed to be purified,

  437. according to Hebrews 9.

  438. So how did Jesus Christ

  439. purify these copies

  440. of heavenly things?

  441. Our Lord Jesus Christ

  442. gathered up the treasures

  443. that the Father commanded.

  444. The Father had a moral law

  445. that He needed His Son

  446. to accomplish.

  447. Each act of Christ's obedience

  448. in the flesh

  449. was in the place

  450. of those He would redeem.

  451. Our Lord Jesus Christ

  452. brought all that His Father

  453. had set apart

  454. for Him to do.

  455. Just as Solomon took

  456. all that David,

  457. the man of war,

  458. had set apart

  459. as sacred to the Lord,

  460. Solomon came and arranged it

  461. and presented it back to God

  462. as worship.

  463. And Jesus presented

  464. His righteousness

  465. to the Father

  466. on behalf of the people

  467. He came to redeem.

  468. Our Lord Jesus Christ,

  469. then He declared

  470. from the cross,

  471. It is finished.

  472. All the work

  473. that King Jesus did

  474. for the house of God

  475. was finished by Him.

  476. We sing this,

  477. It was my sin

  478. that held Him there

  479. until it was accomplished.

  480. His dying breath

  481. has brought me life.

  482. I know that it is finished.

  483. You get to worship God

  484. because King Jesus

  485. finished the work

  486. His Father gave Him to do

  487. so that you could dwell

  488. in His glory.

  489. And He dwells in you now,

  490. His holy temple.

  491. That's the first one.

  492. Here's the second one.

  493. The King summons God's people

  494. to worship next.

  495. Look at 2 Chronicles 5, verse 2.

    2 Chronicles 5:2

  496. Then Solomon assembled

  497. the elders of Israel

  498. and all the heads

  499. of the tribes,

  500. the leaders

  501. of the fathers' houses

  502. of all the people

  503. in Israel

  504. in Jerusalem.

  505. The King sends out

  506. a proclamation,

  507. a royal decree.

  508. All the leaders,

  509. all the representatives

  510. of every tribe

  511. and household

  512. must gather

  513. at the temple of God.

  514. The King orders you

  515. to gather

  516. as His people,

  517. as the people of God

  518. so that you can worship.

  519. You are called

  520. and summoned

  521. by the King

  522. to worship.

  523. You see what this means?

  524. If the head

  525. of a household

  526. or the leader

  527. of a tribe

  528. refuses

  529. to worship the King,

  530. not the King,

  531. but the King's order

  532. to worship God,

  533. that man stands

  534. committing treason.

  535. If the Creator

  536. calls all

  537. to worship Him

  538. and He summons

  539. all His people

  540. to worship

  541. and dwell

  542. in His glory presence,

  543. anyone who refuses

  544. that call

  545. is rebelling.

  546. They're committing treason

  547. against Jesus Christ,

  548. the King of kings.

  549. Our Lord Jesus Christ

  550. is the King

  551. and He summons,

  552. He summons you.

  553. He summons

  554. every nation,

  555. tribe,

  556. people,

  557. and tongue.

  558. He summons

  559. the leaders,

  560. the fathers,

  561. the husbands.

  562. He summons

  563. every soul

  564. to bring your people

  565. before the Lord

  566. and worship Him.

  567. The Bible teaches

  568. that all creatures,

  569. O God,

  570. that worship

  571. do His name.

  572. Why?

  573. Because He's the Creator

  574. and He's the King

  575. and Ruler

  576. over all that He created.

  577. But the problem

  578. is that ever since

  579. the fall of Adam,

  580. no cursed sinner

  581. may approach

  582. the holy,

  583. holy,

  584. holy God

  585. except by God's

  586. own gracious provision.

  587. A sin-damaged creature

  588. like me and you

  589. may not worship

  590. unless God

  591. prepares the way,

  592. unless God

  593. through Jesus Christ,

  594. the only mediator

  595. between God and man

  596. makes it possible.

  597. So the King

  598. finished the work.

  599. The King summons

  600. the people to worship.

  601. Number three,

  602. the King

  603. makes sure

  604. that the sin

  605. of God's people

  606. is atoned.

  607. The King

  608. makes sure

  609. that the sin

  610. of those called

  611. to worship

  612. is paid for.

  613. And what it requires

  614. according to the pattern

  615. God has given

  616. is a penal

  617. substitutionary

  618. sacrifice.

  619. Penal means punished.

  620. The sin

  621. we've committed

  622. needs to be punished

  623. because God

  624. is just.

  625. You don't want

  626. to worship

  627. an unjust God.

  628. But it's gracious

  629. because God

  630. will accept

  631. a sacrifice.

  632. Look in 2 Chronicles

    2 Chronicles 5:6

  633. chapter 5 verse 6.

  634. Sin must be

  635. addressed.

  636. At the dedication

  637. of the temple,

  638. the people of God

  639. under the command

  640. of the King,

  641. they sacrificed

  642. so many sheep

  643. and oxen

  644. that they could not

  645. even be counted

  646. or numbered.

  647. The greatness

  648. of the sacrifice

  649. reflects

  650. the greatness

  651. of their sin.

  652. This is a people

  653. repenting.

  654. Now,

  655. it was limited.

  656. It was only a shadow

  657. and a copy.

  658. Hebrews 9.9

  659. tells us that

  660. the gifts and sacrifices

  661. that were offered,

  662. they could not

  663. perfect

  664. perfect

  665. the conscience

  666. of the worshiper.

  667. So the people of Israel

  668. could not have

  669. a clear conscience.

  670. They could not have

  671. an assurance

  672. of pardon

  673. like we just had.

  674. For the Holy Spirit

  675. ministers

  676. the righteousness

  677. of Christ

  678. in your place.

  679. Hebrews 10.4

  680. says,

  681. it is impossible

  682. for the blood

  683. of bulls

  684. and goats

  685. to take away

  686. sins.

  687. Those are only

  688. gracious

  689. substitutes

  690. that are pointing

  691. to the heavenly pattern

  692. of the only

  693. acceptable blood

  694. that God

  695. would receive.

  696. And that's the blood

  697. of His very own Son

  698. being God

  699. in the flesh.

  700. Like we sing,

  701. behold

  702. the man

  703. upon the cross,

  704. my sin

  705. upon His

  706. shoulders.

  707. Ashamed,

  708. I hear

  709. my mocking voice

  710. call out

  711. among the scoffers.

  712. But Hebrews 10.12

  713. says that

  714. our Lord Jesus Christ

  715. offered

  716. for all time

  717. a single sacrifice

  718. for sins.

  719. Then Jesus

  720. sat down

  721. at the right hand

  722. of God

  723. the Father.

  724. A priest

  725. never sat down

  726. until all

  727. their work

  728. of atoning

  729. for the sacrifice

  730. of the sin

  731. of people

  732. was completed.

  733. And Jesus

  734. one time

  735. sacrifice

  736. sits down

  737. because there's

  738. no more need

  739. of substitutes.

  740. He is the only

  741. substitute

  742. to save sinners.

  743. That's why we can

  744. worship today

  745. with a clean conscience

  746. if you are in Christ.

  747. Because our worship

  748. is possible

  749. through the life,

  750. death,

  751. resurrection,

  752. ascension,

  753. and then the

  754. session of Jesus Christ.

  755. He sits on the throne

  756. ruling over

  757. all of his creation.

  758. We may worship

  759. because Christ

  760. has obtained

  761. this better ministry

  762. for us

  763. as our

  764. everlasting

  765. priest.

  766. That's what we read

  767. in Hebrews 8.

  768. I love how

  769. Puritan

  770. Pastor Jeremiah

  771. Burroughs

  772. put it.

  773. He said,

  774. every time we

  775. approach God

  776. and worship,

  777. it's Jesus Christ

  778. who takes you

  779. by the hand

  780. and brings you

  781. into the presence

  782. of God

  783. so we can

  784. worship Him.

  785. That's the work

  786. of Christ

  787. as our mediator

  788. and as our

  789. everlasting

  790. priest.

  791. Well, we've seen

  792. four of the steps

  793. in the pattern.

  794. Let's go to number

  795. four next.

  796. Number four.

  797. The priests

  798. must present

  799. the ark

  800. to God

  801. before the people

  802. can be

  803. in God's

  804. presence.

  805. So the ark

  806. of the covenant

  807. had to go in first.

  808. It had to be carried

  809. by the priests

  810. because they had been

  811. consecrated,

  812. set apart

  813. for that purpose.

  814. Only then

  815. could the nation

  816. and the people

  817. approach God

  818. to worship

  819. as well.

  820. Look at 2 Chronicles

    2 Chronicles 5:7

  821. chapter 5 verse 7.

  822. Then the priest

  823. brought the ark

  824. of the covenant

  825. of the Lord

  826. to its place

  827. in the inner sanctuary

  828. of the house

  829. of the most holy place.

  830. Verse 10 says

  831. there was nothing

  832. in the ark

  833. at this time

  834. except the two tables

  835. that Moses put there.

  836. The ark of the covenant

  837. is a picture

  838. of Jesus Christ.

  839. This is an ark.

  840. It's a vessel

  841. that could hold

  842. these tables

  843. of the covenant.

  844. And it could be

  845. transported.

  846. In a time of war

  847. when the ark

  848. of the covenant

  849. was with God's people

  850. God's power

  851. made them victorious

  852. in battle.

  853. When the ark

  854. of the covenant

  855. was not with God's people

  856. they were cursed.

  857. The ark

  858. of the covenant

  859. had to be carried in

  860. by those who were

  861. cleansed.

  862. They had to usher in

  863. this representation

  864. of the heavenly

  865. presence of God

  866. with his people.

  867. And what is it

  868. that could contain

  869. that could hold

  870. the ten commandments?

  871. What is it that could

  872. have inside

  873. actually holding

  874. the ten commandments

  875. except for God

  876. himself

  877. the only one

  878. who can keep

  879. his moral law?

  880. Our Lord Jesus Christ

  881. is the fulfillment

  882. of the ark

  883. of the covenant

  884. this copy

  885. this shadow

  886. this figure

  887. because God's

  888. moral law

  889. was hidden

  890. inside of Jesus.

  891. he was the only one

  892. who could bear

  893. to hold

  894. the perfect law

  895. of God.

  896. Jesus was full

  897. of the law

  898. of God

  899. and it played

  900. out in everything

  901. he did.

  902. Jesus was so held

  903. by the moral law

  904. that he could not

  905. sin against God

  906. though he was tempted

  907. like every man.

  908. The priests

  909. present the ark

  910. to God

  911. before anyone

  912. can approach

  913. the holy presence

  914. of God.

  915. Well who are

  916. the priests

  917. now fulfilled

  918. in Christ?

  919. Who are these

  920. priests that present

  921. Christ himself?

  922. Revelations 1-5

  923. answers that question.

  924. Our Lord Jesus Christ

  925. loves us

  926. and has freed us

  927. from our sins

  928. by his blood.

  929. Verse 6 says

  930. Jesus has made

  931. us

  932. church

  933. Christians

  934. a kingdom

  935. and priests

  936. to God

  937. and our Father.

  938. We are the priests

  939. who carry Christ.

  940. We usher Christ in.

  941. And we call

  942. the nations

  943. that are sinful

  944. to follow

  945. this procession

  946. into the Holy

  947. of Holies.

  948. Christ himself

  949. the only one

  950. who can give access

  951. to the Holy

  952. of Holies.

  953. But we are the

  954. priests now.

  955. Every single one

  956. who is united

  957. to Christ

  958. is cleansed.

  959. We are his kingdom

  960. and we are his priests.

  961. We minister Christ

  962. to the lost.

  963. In Revelation

  964. I mentioned

  965. the book of Revelation

  966. has this same pattern.

  967. And you know

  968. the part in Revelation

  969. where the Apostle John

  970. is weeping.

  971. Why is he weeping?

  972. He is weeping

  973. because there was

  974. no one

  975. worthy

  976. to open the scroll

  977. except for

  978. the Lord Jesus Christ

  979. himself.

  980. In Revelation

  981. he is depicted

  982. as the lion lamb.

  983. He is a lion

  984. and he is a lamb.

  985. He is the lion lamb

  986. the mediator.

  987. He fulfills

  988. this pattern

  989. that we are given

  990. in a shadowy form

  991. in 2 Chronicles.

  992. That's why

  993. the Puritan

  994. Thomas Watson

  995. said

  996. in every part

  997. of our worship

  998. we must present

  999. Christ

  1000. to God

  1001. in the arms

  1002. of faith.

  1003. That's what we're doing

  1004. when we gather

  1005. when we worship.

  1006. We're saying

  1007. Lord

  1008. it's only through Christ.

1009. He must be the one

  1010. that draws us

1011. into the holy of holies

  1012. and we long

  1013. to communion with you

1014. not because the moral law

1015. is kept by us externally

  1016. but because it's

  1017. possessed by Christ

1018. and it works its way

1019. in those who are united

  1020. to him.

  1021. Number five

  1022. having been called

  1023. gathered

  1024. and forgiven

  1025. God delights

  1026. in the grateful

  1027. singing

  1028. of his people.

  1029. Look at 2 Chronicles

    2 Chronicles 5:11

  1030. chapter 5

  1031. verse 11

  1032. when the priest

1033. came out of the holy place

  1034. verse 12 says

  1035. all the Levitical singers

  1036. stood on the east

  1037. that's the entrance

  1038. facing the ark

  1039. of the covenant

1040. the holy presence of God

  1041. with his people

  1042. gathered in the temple.

  1043. Verse 13 says

  1044. it was their duty

  1045. to make themselves

  1046. heard in unison

  1047. in praise

  1048. and thanksgiving

  1049. to the Lord.

  1050. I said worship

  1051. is not a style

  1052. but listen to some

  1053. very specific

  1054. descriptions

  1055. of what

  1056. godly worship

  1057. should feel like.

  1058. What did they sing?

  1059. They sang

  1060. he is good

  1061. for his steadfast love

  1062. endures forever.

  1063. In these verses

  1064. we see that

  1065. the people of God

  1066. singing in gratitude

  1067. they sing loudly

  1068. because it says

1069. they were to be heard

  1070. and they sing

  1071. together

  1072. because they sing

  1073. in unison

  1074. as one voice.

  1075. They sing with

  1076. thanksgiving

  1077. and what are they

  1078. thankful for?

  1079. They're thankful

  1080. for God's character

  1081. he is good

  1082. his steadfast love

  1083. endures forever.

  1084. God's people

  1085. testify

  1086. I know

  1087. and you know

  1088. that God

  1089. is good.

  1090. We're singing it

  1091. to each other

  1092. and to God

  1093. it's directed

  1094. upward

  1095. and outward

  1096. God is good.

  1097. Every time we're singing

  1098. we're declaring that

  1099. we're reminding

  1100. one another

  1101. we're strengthening

  1102. each other

  1103. in the faith

1104. and how do we know

  1105. that God is good?

  1106. Because we know

  1107. his steadfast love

  1108. endures forever.

  1109. We know that

  1110. from the scripture

  1111. look at his faithfulness

  1112. to his covenant

  1113. look at how

  1114. everything he's done

  1115. was reflecting

  1116. a heavenly pattern

  1117. that Christ fulfilled

1118. and we get to be

  1119. part of this.

  1120. That's why we know

  1121. that God is good

  1122. that's why we know

  1123. his steadfast love

  1124. endures forever

  1125. from heaven

  1126. Christ ministers it

  1127. to it

  1128. to those on earth

  1129. who belong to him.

  1130. The Lord was pleased

  1131. we know he's pleased

1132. because of what happens next

  1133. look at verse 13

1134. the house of the Lord

  1135. was filled

  1136. with a cloud

  1137. verse 14

1138. the priest could not stand

  1139. to minister

  1140. because of the cloud

  1141. and the glory

  1142. of the Lord

  1143. filled the house.

1144. This is what we should

  1145. pray for

1146. this is what we should

  1147. imagine

1148. when you think of worship

  1149. that's it.

  1150. This is

  1151. this same reference

1152. is going to come up

  1153. in chapter 7

  1154. when this entire

  1155. worship service

  1156. is done

  1157. and to me

  1158. that signals two things

  1159. the Lord is

  1160. very pleased

  1161. when we recognize

  1162. Christ

1163. and our need for him

  1164. in atoning sin

  1165. but the worship service

  1166. isn't over

1167. we just saw 5 out of the 11

  1168. and at the end

  1169. once the final

  1170. complete work is done

  1171. and pushed out

  1172. and the people

  1173. are blessed

  1174. as they go back

  1175. to their homes

  1176. the Lord is pleased

  1177. he's pleased with

  1178. the whole thing

  1179. but especially

  1180. in the work

  1181. of Christ's son.

  1182. So number 6

  1183. what we see next

  1184. is that the king

  1185. proclaims God's

  1186. covenant promises

  1187. to his people.

  1188. The king preaches

1189. a law and gospel sermon

  1190. that's exactly

  1191. what Solomon does.

1192. I'm just going to read

  1193. one verse

  1194. turn to chapter 6

  1195. 2 Chronicles

    2 Chronicles 6:4

  1196. chapter 6

  1197. verse 4

  1198. King Solomon

  1199. stands up

  1200. and he says

  1201. blessed be the Lord

  1202. 2 Chronicles

    2 Chronicles 6:4

  1203. chapter 6

  1204. verse 4

  1205. blessed be the Lord

  1206. the God of Israel

  1207. who with his hand

  1208. has fulfilled

  1209. what he

  1210. has promised.

  1211. King Solomon

  1212. is standing

  1213. like a preacher

  1214. and he's declaring

  1215. to the people

  1216. of God

  1217. you saying

  1218. that God's

  1219. steadfast love

  1220. is forever

  1221. I'm testifying

  1222. that this is true

  1223. look at what

  1224. God has done

  1225. he's given us

  1226. peace on every side

  1227. he's brought

  1228. wealth and prosperity

  1229. from all the other

  1230. nations

  1231. to tiny little Israel

  1232. why has God

  1233. done this?

  1234. It's because

  1235. he is faithful

  1236. to his covenant

  1237. what Moses

  1238. could have never

  1239. dreamed would have

  1240. happened before

  1241. the people

  1242. entered the promised land

  1243. look where we are

  1244. now people of God

  1245. that's what Solomon

  1246. is declaring

  1247. in this sermon

  1248. that's number 6

1249. the king is the one

  1250. who preaches

  1251. a law and gospel

  1252. sermon

  1253. and through the

  1254. words of

  1255. saved sinners

  1256. members of our

  1257. congregation

  1258. regular men

  1259. that you know

  1260. we're the ones

  1261. you guys are

  1262. playing softball

  1263. we're doing all

  1264. these other things

  1265. that regular guys

  1266. do

  1267. it's through

  1268. vessels like that

  1269. that the foolishness

  1270. what seems to the

  1271. world foolishness

  1272. we're preaching

  1273. the law and gospel

  1274. we're testifying

  1275. to the faithfulness

  1276. of God

  1277. just like Solomon

  1278. did

  1279. number 7

  1280. the king prays

  1281. a prayer

  1282. of intercession

  1283. for his people

  1284. King Solomon

  1285. preaches

  1286. and then he prays

  1287. to God

  1288. on behalf

  1289. of his people

  1290. look at chapter 6

  1291. verse 12

  1292. then Solomon

  1293. stood before the

  1294. altar of the Lord

  1295. in the presence

  1296. of all the assembly

  1297. of Israel

  1298. and he spread out

  1299. his hands

  1300. we should

  1301. we should be willing

  1302. to do these same

  1303. things

  1304. here stands the king

  1305. before his people

  1306. declaring God

  1307. you are the king

  1308. of your people

  1309. and then verse 13b

  1310. Solomon kneels down

  1311. on his knees

  1312. in the presence

  1313. of all the assembly

  1314. of Israel

  1315. the king

  1316. kneels down

  1317. before the true king

  1318. and he spread out

  1319. his hands

  1320. toward heaven again

  1321. and look at what

  1322. he prays

  1323. in verse 14

  1324. oh Lord

  1325. God of Israel

  1326. there is no God

  1327. like you in heaven

  1328. or on earth

  1329. keeping covenant

  1330. and showing steadfast

  1331. love to your servants

  1332. who walk before you

  1333. with all their heart

  1334. he's praising God

  1335. he's interceding

  1336. on behalf of these

  1337. sinners

  1338. who need God's grace

  1339. and thanking the Lord

  1340. for showing that grace

  1341. to them

  1342. see

  1343. we read in Hebrews

1344. that our Lord Jesus Christ

  1345. lives

  1346. to intercede

  1347. for his people

  1348. he is the king

  1349. who prays

  1350. prayers of intercession

  1351. prayers lifting you up

  1352. your needs

  1353. to the father

  1354. and as Christ

  1355. prays for you

  1356. and for me

  1357. he conforms you

  1358. he reforms you

  1359. he reshapes you

  1360. to obey

  1361. what God

  1362. desires

  1363. for you

  1364. that's why it's a joy

1365. to let God change us

  1366. it's a joy

1367. to be more and more

  1368. conformed

  1369. not to the patterns

  1370. of the world

  1371. but being transformed

  1372. because Christ is praying

1373. that that will take place

  1374. in our life

  1375. and our response

  1376. when we realize

  1377. it's Christ who's praying

  1378. to change me

  1379. it should be like

  1380. William Perkins

  1381. he said

  1382. love keeps itself

  1383. to the word

1384. and the will of God

  1385. things done without

  1386. a word from God

1387. are not out of love

  1388. for love

  1389. is

  1390. the fulfilling

  1391. of the law

  1392. according to Romans 13 10

  1393. so the king

  1394. prays

  1395. for his people

  1396. number eight

  1397. God's glory

  1398. then

  1399. dwells with his people

  1400. after

  1401. his wrath

  1402. consumes

  1403. the substitute

  1404. for their sin

  1405. turn to chapter 7

  1406. and let's look at verse 1

  1407. 2nd Chronicles chapter 7

  1408. verse 1

  1409. we read that

  1410. as soon as Solomon

  1411. finished his prayer

  1412. do you follow

1413. what they've done so far

  1414. he preached

  1415. he prayed

  1416. thanked the Lord

1417. as soon as he was done

  1418. praying

  1419. which is proof

  1420. that God

  1421. is listening

  1422. closely

1423. when we pray to him

1424. because as soon as Solomon

  1425. was done praying

  1426. fire came down

  1427. from heaven

  1428. and consumed

  1429. the burnt offering

  1430. and the sacrifices

  1431. and the glory

  1432. of the Lord

  1433. filled

  1434. the temple

  1435. chapter 7

  1436. verse 2

  1437. says that

  1438. again the priest

  1439. could not enter

  1440. the temple

  1441. because the glory

  1442. of the Lord

  1443. filled

  1444. his house

  1445. doesn't it make you

  1446. wish you could have

  1447. been one of those

  1448. priests

  1449. even to try to

  1450. imagine or describe

  1451. how would you describe

  1452. that

  1453. why couldn't you

  1454. go into the temple

  1455. God is spirit

  1456. why couldn't you

  1457. go in there

  1458. this is a mystery

1459. and it is a mystery

1460. how this is a pattern

  1461. in heaven

1462. but I think we get

  1463. some light

  1464. from the New Testament

  1465. on this shadowy

  1466. description

  1467. of what God did

  1468. and that comes

  1469. from 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 4:17

  1470. chapter 4

  1471. verse 17

  1472. God also had given

  1473. Paul glimpses

  1474. of this heavenly reality

  1475. this heavenly pattern

  1476. of worship

  1477. and Paul says

  1478. there is an eternal

  1479. weight

  1480. of glory

  1481. beyond

  1482. all

  1483. comparison

  1484. what is the

  1485. Shekinah glory

  1486. of God

  1487. Paul described it

  1488. as an eternal

  1489. weight

  1490. of glory

  1491. beyond all

  1492. comparison

  1493. so don't even

  1494. try to bring in

  1495. earthly

  1496. creaturely

  1497. examples

  1498. it's beyond

  1499. comparison

  1500. the love

  1501. of God

  1502. is an all

  1503. expulsive

  1504. love

  1505. God is love

  1506. God is spirit

  1507. God is

  1508. concentrated

  1509. glory

  1510. and it expels

  1511. anything

  1512. less

  1513. when you have

  1514. the love

  1515. of God

  1516. in your

  1517. hearts

  1518. Jesus Christ

  1519. it expels

  1520. anything

  1521. it burns

  1522. up

  1523. it refines

  1524. like a fire

  1525. anything

  1526. that's

  1527. less

  1528. that's the

  1529. eternal

  1530. heavenly

  1531. unending

  1532. transcendent

  1533. unchanging

  1534. glory

  1535. of God

  1536. you can feel

  1537. it

  1538. you physically

  1539. cannot approach

  1540. it

  1541. it expels

  1542. anything

  1543. that is

  1544. less

  1545. that's the

  1546. weight

  1547. of the

  1548. glory

  1549. of God

  1550. Sinclair

  1551. Ferguson said

  1552. we might say

  1553. that worship

  1554. is simply

  1555. theology

  1556. going into

  1557. top gear

  1558. instead of

  1559. merely thinking

  1560. about God

  1561. we tell God

  1562. in prayer

  1563. in praise

  1564. in song

  1565. in preaching

  1566. how great

  1567. and glorious

  1568. we believe

  1569. we experience

  1570. him to be

  1571. that's what

  1572. worship

  1573. is

  1574. God's

  1575. glory

  1576. dwells

  1577. with his

  1578. people

  1579. after his

  1580. wrath

  1581. consumes

  1582. the substitute

  1583. for their

  1584. sins

  1585. number nine

  1586. when God's

  1587. people behold

  1588. the justice

  1589. and grace

  1590. of God

  1591. they sing

  1592. his praise

  1593. again

  1594. they see

  1595. his justice

  1596. because the

  1597. fire of God

  1598. consumes

  1599. the sacrifice

  1600. he hates

  1601. the sin

  1602. but he

  1603. consumes it

  1604. there's

  1605. nothing

  1606. left

  1607. there's

  1608. nothing

  1609. to go

  1610. pull through

  1611. and try

  1612. to pull

  1613. out

  1614. and be

  1615. reminded

  1616. of

  1617. or have

  1618. it

  1619. hanging

  1620. over

  1621. you

  1622. there's

  1623. no sin

  1624. left

  1625. God's

  1626. holy

  1627. loving

  1628. presence

  1629. his glory

  1630. consumes

  1631. it

  1632. like a

  1633. fire

  1634. see his

  1635. justice

  1636. and his

  1637. love

  1638. that's

  1639. the glory

  1640. of God

  1641. look what

  1642. they do

  1643. then in

  1644. chapter 7

  1645. verse 3

  1646. when all

  1647. the people

  1648. of Israel

  1649. saw the

  1650. fire

  1651. come down

  1652. and the

  1653. glory of

  1654. the Lord

  1655. on the

  1656. temple

  1657. they bowed

  1658. down

  1659. with their

  1660. faces

  1661. to the

  1662. ground

  1663. on the

  1664. pavement

  1665. and worshipped

  1666. and give

  1667. thanks to

  1668. the Lord

  1669. and they

  1670. sing that

  1671. same refrain

  1672. again

  1673. for he

  1674. is good

  1675. and his

  1676. steadfast

  1677. love

  1678. endures

  1679. forever

  1680. our

  1681. Lord

  1682. Jesus

  1683. Christ

  1684. leads

  1685. his

  1686. church

  1687. in the

  1688. ministry

  1689. of

  1690. worship

  1691. and

  1692. Jesus

  1693. Christ

  1694. himself

  1695. fulfills

  1696. what God

  1697. said he

  1698. would do

  1699. in Zephaniah

  1700. 317

  1701. which is

  1702. this

  1703. the Lord

  1704. your God

  1705. is in

  1706. your

  1707. midst

  1708. a mighty

  1709. one who

  1710. will save

  1711. he will

  1712. rejoice

  1713. over you

  1714. with gladness

  1715. he will

  1716. quiet you

  1717. by his

  1718. love

  1719. he will

  1720. exult

  1721. over you

  1722. with loud

  1723. singing

  1724. the Lord

  1725. himself

  1726. in your

  1727. midst

  1728. singing

  1729. over his

  1730. people

  1731. he's

  1732. praising

  1733. God

  1734. for you

  1735. the gift

  1736. that God

  1737. gave him

  1738. the ransom

  1739. the bride

  1740. so would

  1741. we sing

  1742. to God

  1743. in worship

  1744. Jesus

  1745. Christ

  1746. himself

  1747. in our

  1748. midst

  1749. is our

  1750. worship

  1751. leader

  1752. number

  1753. 10

  1754. the king

  1755. hosts

  1756. his people

  1757. in a

  1758. magnificent

  1759. feast

  1760. what they

  1761. do next

  1762. it's not

  1763. it's not

  1764. a sacrifice

  1765. to pay

  1766. for their

  1767. sins

  1768. that's

  1769. already

  1770. happened

  1771. remember

  1772. the fire

  1773. that consumed

  1774. it all

  1775. this is what

  1776. God told

  1777. Moses to do

  1778. as peace

  1779. offerings

  1780. and the peace

  1781. offerings

  1782. weren't burnt

  1783. it was a

  1784. communion

  1785. meal

  1786. the peace

  1787. offerings

  1788. come after

  1789. the forgiveness

  1790. of sin

  1791. the communion

  1792. with God

  1793. is now

  1794. possible

  1795. and it's a

  1796. delight

  1797. look at

  1798. chapter 7

  1799. verse 5

  1800. this peace

  1801. offering

  1802. included

  1803. 22,000

  1804. oxen

  1805. I just

  1806. imagine what

  1807. that would

  1808. sound like

  1809. and it

  1810. included

  1811. 120,000

  1812. sheep

  1813. verse 8

  1814. of chapter 7

  1815. says

  1816. at that time

  1817. Solomon held

  1818. the feast

  1819. for seven

  1820. days

  1821. it could have

  1822. been longer

  1823. but seven

  1824. is a

  1825. number

  1826. of

  1827. completion

  1828. you see

  1829. what this

  1830. is

  1831. foreshadowing

  1832. the king

  1833. will feast

  1834. and host

  1835. his people

  1836. for the

  1837. complete

  1838. fullness

  1839. of time

  1840. and all

  1841. of Israel

  1842. was with

  1843. him

  1844. in a

  1845. great

  1846. assembly

  1847. children

  1848. what part

  1849. of our

  1850. weekly

  1851. service

  1852. do we

  1853. celebrate

  1854. that shows

  1855. us this

  1856. same thing

  1857. we look

  1858. forward to

  1859. this same

  1860. feast

  1861. what is

  1862. it

  1863. yes

  1864. it's

  1865. the

  1866. Lord's

  1867. supper

  1868. King

  1869. Jesus

  1870. will host

  1871. his

  1872. people

  1873. 2 Corinthians

  1874. 2 15

  1875. says that

  1876. we are

  1877. the aroma

  1878. of Christ

  1879. to God

  1880. we have

  1881. been saved

  1882. who are

  1883. perishing

  1884. now we

  1885. are the

  1886. aroma

  1887. and as

  1888. you picture

  1889. seven days

  1890. the entire

  1891. nation

  1892. with so

  1893. much

  1894. delicious

  1895. food

  1896. maybe you've

  1897. been to

  1898. the best

  1899. type of

  1900. steakhouse

  1901. that there

  1902. is

  1903. which is

  1904. of course

  1905. the Brazilian

  1906. steakhouse

  1907. and you've

  1908. seen them

  1909. grilling

  1910. the mutton

  1911. or the

  1912. lamb

  1913. and they

  1914. come around

  1915. with that

  1916. lamb

  1917. and just

  1918. shave off

  1919. that crispy

  1920. outer edge

  1921. the aroma

  1922. of this

  1923. feast

  1924. and the

  1925. oxen

  1926. that would

  1927. be like

  1928. probably

  1929. a gamier

  1930. cow

  1931. is probably

  1932. what it would

  1933. taste like

  1934. maybe some

  1935. of you

  1936. have tried

  1937. it

  1938. but for

  1939. Israel

  1940. this is a

  1941. picture

  1942. of the

  1943. best

  1944. feast

  1945. you could

  1946. imagine

  1947. you're

  1948. going to

  1949. eat a

  1950. pretty

  1951. simple

  1952. basic

  1953. diet

  1954. for most

  1955. of the

  1956. year

  1957. but when

  1958. you get

  1959. to be

  1960. part of

  1961. a celebration

  1962. like this

  1963. the king

  1964. himself

  1965. is hosting

  1966. you

  1967. and it's

  1968. the lavished

  1969. generosity

  1970. given to

  1971. you

  1972. things you

  1973. would have

  1974. never been

  1975. able to

  1976. afford

  1977. on your

  1978. own

  1979. the king

  1980. invites

  1981. you to

  1982. his table

  1983. you're

  1984. feasting

  1985. together

  1986. in the

  1987. presence

  1988. of the

  1989. king

  1990. and that's

  1991. what we

  1992. do

  1993. with the

  1994. Lord's

  1995. supper

  1996. because

  1997. it's

  1998. preparing

  1999. us

  2000. for the

  2001. great

  2002. wedding

  2003. all

  2004. eternity

  2005. the

  2006. fullness

  2007. of

  2008. time

  2009. and time

  2010. without

  2011. end

  2012. that brings

  2013. us to

  2014. our last

  2015. one

  2016. the number

  2017. 11

  2018. after

  2019. this

  2020. glorious

  2021. feast

  2022. you wish

  2023. it could

  2024. just

  2025. continue

  2026. and never

  2027. stop

  2028. but while

  2029. we're on

  2030. this earth

  2031. and our

  2032. faith is

  2033. not by

  2034. sight

  2035. we do

  2036. get sent

  2037. back home

  2038. we get

  2039. sent back

  2040. into the

  2041. world

  2042. back to

  2043. our

  2044. workplaces

  2045. but we

  2046. don't go

  2047. like we

  2048. were before

  2049. we came

  2050. we go as

  2051. changed

  2052. people

  2053. the Lord

  2054. is changing

  2055. us by

  2056. his love

  2057. love

  2058. so the

  2059. 11th

  2060. one is

  2061. this

  2062. the king

  2063. sends his

  2064. people

  2065. back home

  2066. in peace

  2067. they have

  2068. peace with

  2069. God

  2070. this is

  2071. their

  2072. benediction

  2073. they have

  2074. beheld

  2075. and experienced

  2076. God's glory

  2077. now look at

  2078. chapter 7

  2079. verse 10

  2080. the king

  2081. sent the

  2082. people to

  2083. their homes

  2084. and how

  2085. were they

  2086. as they

  2087. traveled

  2088. back

  2089. they were

  2090. joyful

  2091. filled

  2092. with joy

  2093. from heaven

  2094. itself

  2095. they were

  2096. glad of

  2097. heart

  2098. for the

  2099. prosperity

  2100. that the

  2101. Lord

  2102. had

  2103. given

  2104. them

  2105. they got

  2106. to taste

  2107. it

  2108. they got

  2109. to celebrate

  2110. God's

  2111. goodness

  2112. in their

  2113. midst

  2114. if you're

  2115. one of the

  2116. priests

  2117. who is

  2118. that close

  2119. to the

  2120. Shekinah

  2121. glory

  2122. you might

  2123. have not

  2124. even had

  2125. an appetite

  2126. you don't

  2127. even want

  2128. this delicious

  2129. lamb

  2130. you want

  2131. heaven

  2132. you're so

  2133. close to

  2134. God

  2135. and this

  2136. life is so

  2137. short

  2138. we're almost

  2139. home

  2140. but what

  2141. a foretaste

  2142. this is

  2143. where

  2144. heaven's

  2145. pattern

  2146. that God

  2147. gave us

  2148. very clearly

  2149. in numerous

  2150. places of

  2151. the scripture

  2152. where his

  2153. pattern is

  2154. not followed

  2155. in the

  2156. gathering of

  2157. his people

  2158. on earth

  2159. we cannot

  2160. expect

  2161. his glory

  2162. he might

  2163. surprise us

  2164. of course

  2165. he's God

  2166. he'll do

  2167. whatever he

  2168. wants

  2169. praise God

  2170. when he

  2171. does

  2172. but as

  2173. his light

  2174. of scripture

  2175. reforms

  2176. our thinking

  2177. we need to

  2178. be aligning

  2179. ourselves

  2180. to what

  2181. God has

  2182. shown

  2183. and when

  2184. we focus

  2185. on Christ

  2186. at the

  2187. center

  2188. we try

  2189. to align

  2190. what's

  2191. happening

  2192. on earth

  2193. with what

  2194. happens

  2195. in heaven

  2196. debates

  2197. about style

  2198. fade away

  2199. when our

  2200. pattern of

  2201. worship

  2202. is conformed

  2203. to the

  2204. heavenly

  2205. pattern

  2206. the result

  2207. is that

  2208. our lives

  2209. are being

  2210. transformed

  2211. to the

  2212. heavenly

  2213. pattern

  2214. of Christ

  2215. by the

  2216. glorious

  2217. power

  2218. of God

  2219. with us

  2220. ministering

  2221. to us

  2222. as his

  2223. people

  2224. our

  2225. flesh

  2226. creeps

  2227. in

  2228. we're

  2229. so

  2230. weak

  2231. we need

  2232. the help

  2233. of the

  2234. whole

  2235. church

  2236. to do

  2237. this

  2238. well

  2239. don't

  2240. we

  2241. and we

  2242. ask God

  2243. together

  2244. Lord

  2245. be thou

  2246. my vision

  2247. oh Lord

  2248. of my

  2249. heart

  2250. high king

  2251. of heaven

  2252. my victory

  2253. won

  2254. may I

  2255. reach

  2256. heaven's

  2257. joys

  2258. oh bright

  2259. heaven's

  2260. sun

  2261. thou

  2262. my best

  2263. thought

  2264. whatever

  2265. befall

  2266. still

  2267. be my

  2268. vision

  2269. oh ruler

  2270. of all

  2271. that's what

  2272. we're asking

  2273. every time

  2274. we worship

  2275. so may

  2276. Christ

  2277. our

  2278. mediator

  2279. our

  2280. worship

  2281. leader

  2282. our

  2283. king

  2284. himself

  2285. dwell

  2286. in you

  2287. his

  2288. covenant

  2289. people

  2290. richly

  2291. and may

  2292. his

  2293. steadfast

  2294. love

  2295. abide

  2296. with us

  2297. as we

  2298. worship

  2299. him

  2300. in the

  2301. heavenly

  2302. pattern

  2303. he's

  2304. given us

  2305. in his

  2306. word

  2307. would you

  2308. pray with

  2309. me

  2310. oh

  2311. our

  2312. Lord

  2313. Jesus

  2314. we

  2315. ascribe

  2316. to you

  2317. all

  2318. the glory

  2319. the majesty

  2320. the honor

  2321. the worthiness

  2322. which are yours

  2323. for you

  2324. are good

  2325. and your

  2326. steadfast love

  2327. endures

  2328. forever

  2329. glory be to the

  2330. father

  2331. glory be to the

  2332. son

  2333. and glory be to

  2334. the spirit

  2335. amen

  2336. to you

  2337. know

  2338. and
