  1. Isaiah chapter 45. So here's what the Reformation Heritage Bible commentary says on this book to

    Isaiah 45 chapter mention

  2. introduce it. Jewish tradition suggests that Isaiah's father Amos was the brother of King

  3. Amaziah of Judah and that Isaiah was murdered during the early part of Manasseh's reign.

  4. Isaiah means Jehovah is salvation. The grandeur of his writing style and the access he had to the

  5. king of Judah imply that Isaiah was a well-educated man within an influential family in the nation and

  6. his writing reveals that he was a man of great learning and intellect as well as real courage.

  7. Isn't it beautiful how God has prophesied that he would take on flesh through all kinds of different

  8. prophets. The other example would be Amos. Amos was a poor farmer south of Jerusalem. He raised sycamore

  9. trees and tended sheep and now Isaiah is this princely man with a world-class education. Isaiah

  10. wrote based out of the capital city Jerusalem. At this point in redemptive history the ten northern

  11. tribes were already in captivity. Isaiah prophesied the coming judgment of now the two southern tribes

  12. Judah and Benjamin but also God's promises. Isaiah is also the mouthpiece of the great God who would

  13. bring salvation not only for Judea and Jerusalem and then the ten northern tribes which the New

  14. Testament calls Samaria but God would bring salvation to the ends of the earth and that's our focus in

  15. today's sermon text. So we're in Isaiah chapter 45 and we're going to begin reading at verse 18.

    Isaiah 45 chapter mention

  16. As I read this we believe in Reformation Heritage Church here that this is the word of God that it is

  17. inspired, inerrant, infallible. It's God's clear and sufficient word for you who are his people.

  18. Once I'm done reading the word of God I'll say this is the word of the Lord and if you receive it that way

  19. say thanks be to God. Isaiah 45 starting at verse 18.

  20. For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens, God himself that formed the earth and made it.

  21. He hath established it. He created it not in vain. He formed it to be inhabited. I am the Lord and there

  22. is none else. I have not spoken in secret in a dark place of the earth. I said not unto the seat of

  23. Jacob seek ye me in vain. I the Lord speak righteousness. I declare things that are right.

  24. Assemble yourselves and come. Draw near together ye that are escaped of the nations. They have no knowledge

  25. that set up wood of their graven image and pray unto a God that cannot save. Tell ye and bring them near.

  26. Yea let them take counsel together. Who hath declared this from ancient times? Who hath foretold this

  27. long ago? Have not I the Lord and there is no God else beside me? A just God and a Savior. There is none beside me.

  28. Look at verse 22. God says,

  29. Look unto me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth for I am God and there is none else.

  30. I have sworn by myself. The word has gone out of my mouth in righteousness and shall not return.

  31. That unto me every knee shall bow. Every tongue shall swear. Surely shall one say,

  32. In the Lord have I righteousness and strength. Even to him shall men come and all that are increased

  33. and sensed against him shall be ashamed. Verse 25. In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified

  34. and shall glory. This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. You may be seated.

  35. The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of the Lord endures forever.

  36. Well, let's pray from Isaiah 55.

  37. Oh God, as rain brings grain for food, may your word go forth. You promised that it will not return

  38. unto you void, but that your word shall accomplish that which you please. It shall prosper in the purpose

  39. for which you send it. Lord, I ask now in your presence, before your people, what's been my prayer all week.

  40. Simply that we would see you. That we would behold your glory today and be satisfied.

  41. We ask this for Christ's sake. Amen.

  42. Beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  43. God calls you to look unto him.

  44. God calls you to look unto him.

  45. God calls you to look unto him.

  46. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

  47. Everywhere you go,

  48. take a look at the five and ten.

  49. That's the five and dime like a dollar store.

  50. It's glistening once again

  51. with candy canes and silver lanes that glow.

  52. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.

  53. Toys in every store.

  54. But the prettiest sight to see is the holly that will be on your own

  55. front door.

  56. This time of year gives us a lot to look at.

  57. And it's the time of year where pastors probably across the world are picking on Christmas lyrics

  58. for two reasons.

  59. They're so easy to pick on.

  60. And the number two, I think it's our job.

  61. I think it's our job to make sure that all that we're taking in as the people of God

  62. is being reformed and conformed to Christ.

  63. It's so easy for myself to be caught up in the marketing, the propaganda, the worldly messages.

  64. But instead, we're supposed to set our eyes on Christ.

  65. I was thinking about this promise in verse 22.

  66. Look unto me.

  67. Look unto me, God calls.

  68. In the Garden of Eden, remember the fruit looked delightful to Eve.

  69. In 1 John 2.16, we're warned, Christians are warned, to not follow the lust of the eyes.

  70. There's something spiritual that happens with what we look at.

  71. Put your eyes on verse 22.

  72. I just need you to see the focus of today for yourself.

  73. This is my one point for you today.

  74. If you leave here and you're talking later over delicious food, what was the point of the preacher?

  75. It's this right here, verse 22.

  76. God calls you.

  77. He says, look unto me and be ye saved all the ends of the earth.

  78. Why?

  79. He says, for I am God and there is none else.

  80. That's the sermon today.

  81. God calls you to look unto him.

  82. This is so comforting because we do long to find satisfaction.

  83. And our eyes go everywhere to find something that will satisfy them.

  84. And God is telling us, I give you satisfying glory to behold.

  85. God has already given satisfying glory for us to behold.

  86. When we behold Christ, we behold God.

  87. Jesus is God.

  88. Well, let's walk through our verses here.

  89. Starting at verse 18.

  90. I see five reasons you need to look at God today.

  91. Five reasons you and I need to look at God.

  92. Number one, this Christmas, God calls you and me to get our eyes off of this physical realm.

  93. Because he's giving us, he's already given us satisfying glory to behold.

  94. So when we see the lights and these beautiful sights, that's good.

  95. But look past it.

  96. Get your eyes past the physical realm.

  97. God calls you to look unto him because he is the creator of heaven and earth.

  98. This is the first reason.

  99. And he says this in verse 18.

  100. I'm going to take them in two parts.

  101. First, the heavens.

  102. Second, the earth.

  103. Look at verse 18.

  104. Thus saith the Lord that created the heavens.

  105. He is the creator and the king of heaven.

  106. That's why you need to look at him.

  107. God is the creator of heaven.

  108. Heaven is the invisible spiritual realm.

  109. I want to keep a special focus on that invisible spiritual realm and the realm of angels.

  110. angels.

  111. We're told in Job 38.7 of angels.

  112. The morning stars, they were called.

  113. They sang together.

  114. And all the sons of God.

  115. That's another word for angels.

  116. Shouted for joy.

  117. And that was how the angels witnessed all that God had created.

  118. All that God had spoken into existence.

  119. Revelation 5.11 says,

  120. The voice of many angels.

  121. How many angels should we picture in heaven?

  122. They numbered myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands.

  123. A myriad in ancient Greece was 10,000.

  124. So what's 10,000 times 10,000?

  125. The point is, it's more than you could count or imagine.

  126. That's what God created when he created the heavens.

  127. J.I. Packer wrote this of angels.

  128. Heaven is their headquarters where they are constantly worshiping God.

  129. And from heaven, they are sent to render services to Christians at God's bidding.

  130. Because God is the creator of the heavens.

  131. That's why you should look past this physical realm.

  132. Not only is God the creator of heaven, God is the king of heaven.

  133. Zechariah 1.10 says that angels are God's mighty warriors of light.

  134. God has a vast army of holy, magnificent, fear-striking spiritual beings.

  135. The Lord sends his angels to patrol planet earth.

  136. He created the heavenly host.

  137. And he rules over the host of heaven as their king.

  138. Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 26.

  139. He said,

  140. I can appeal to my father.

  141. And he will send at once more than 12 legions of angels.

  142. A legion is 5,000 to 6,000 angels.

  143. So more Roman soldiers than you could picture.

  144. And 12 is the number of fullness.

  145. It's all the nations of Israel.

  146. When you would summon the army of the people of God,

  147. it would be all 12 nations represented.

  148. In other words, there is a full army of angels at God's disposal.

  149. The angels know the reality of heaven better than you and I do.

  150. And that's why the angels, which we think about at Christmas,

  151. burst into song when they saw what was happening.

  152. In Luke 2, which Ralph read for us in verse 13,

  153. we read that a multitude of the heavenly host praised God.

  154. And they said,

  155. Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace among those with whom God is pleased.

  156. We're told in Colossians 1.16 that by him,

  157. that's God himself,

  158. all things were created,

  159. things in heaven and things on earth,

  160. visible and invisible,

  161. whether it be thrones or dominions or principalities or powers,

  162. all things were created by God and for God.

  163. Jesus is God.

  164. Jesus created the heavens.

  165. Jesus is king over the heavens.

  166. Our confession,

  167. the second London confession of faith in chapter 8 on Christ the mediator,

  168. paragraph 3 puts it this way,

  169. The Lord Jesus in his human nature,

  170. thus united to the divine in the person of the Son,

  171. was sanctified and anointed with the Holy Spirit from above beyond measure,

  172. having in him all the treasures of God's wisdom.

  173. Jesus is God.

  174. That's why we sing,

  175. Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace.

  176. Hail the Son of Righteousness.

  177. Behold the glory of God and be satisfied.

  178. Behold Jesus.

  179. He is the creator and the king of heaven.

  180. That's the first reason God calls you to look unto him.

  181. It's because he created and rules over the heavens,

  182. the spiritual realm.

  183. Well, this Christmas,

  184. God also calls you and me

  185. to get our eyes off of our own little kingdoms.

  186. The second reason God calls you to look unto him

  187. is because he is the creator and the king of the earth.

  188. Not only the heavens,

  189. but also all of the earth.

  190. Look at what he says next in verse 18.

  191. God himself formed the earth and made it.

  192. He made the earth for his glory.

  193. This is what all of the scriptures declare.

  194. All of the earth is like a book.

  195. It reveals who God is.

  196. Psalm 24 says,

  197. The earth is the Lord's in the fullness thereof.

  198. He has founded it and established it.

  199. Augustine, a long time ago,

  200. he said,

  201. I looked at all of the earth

  202. and I asked,

  203. Who is God?

  204. And all of the earth said,

  205. I'm not God.

  206. God is he who made me.

  207. That's what the earth shouts back

  208. at anyone who's honest to look.

  209. And that's what Psalm 19 says,

  210. The heavens declare the glory of God.

  211. The sky above proclaims his handiwork.

  212. Day to day pours forth speech.

  213. Night to night reveals knowledge.

  214. There is no speech,

  215. nor are there words

  216. whose voice is not heard.

  217. God is the creator of earth.

  218. Look at earth and look past it

  219. and see the creator.

  220. See God himself.

  221. Not only did God create the earth,

  222. God is the king of the earth.

  223. Look at what he says in verse 18 again.

  224. He formed it to be inhabited.

  225. I studied this in the original language.

  226. In the Hebrew, it's poetic

  227. and you can't quite get a firm grasp

  228. of exactly all that it means

  229. because it could mean so much more.

  230. Here's how it is in the original.

  231. God established her.

  232. From chaos, he created her

  233. to dwell therein.

  234. He formed her.

  235. So God created earth.

  236. Earth is in the feminine.

  237. The earth is his house.

  238. It's his palace

  239. where God himself will dwell.

  240. And he formed the earth

  241. for the dwelling.

  242. He formed earth for himself

  243. to rule over.

  244. The earth is the temple of the Lord

  245. where he is pleased to dwell.

  246. Now, the people of God

  247. that inhabit the earth,

  248. in our souls,

  249. we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

  250. So as his people fill the earth,

  251. he dwells in a ruling way.

  252. But he rules

  253. and he is king over all

  254. that he made.

  255. He says in verse 18,

  256. I am the Lord

  257. and there is none else.

  258. Jesus is this Lord

  259. that Isaiah 45 describes.

  260. In John 1-3, we read that

  261. in God the Son,

  262. all things were made.

  263. Without him was not anything made

  264. that was made.

  265. And in him was life.

  266. Verse 14 says that

  267. he the creator was made flesh

  268. and he dwelt on the earth

  269. and we beheld God's glory

  270. full of grace and truth.

  271. God took on flesh

  272. to dwell in the world

  273. that he created.

  274. Well, in this account in Luke 2,

  275. we get the glory of heaven

  276. coming to earth.

  277. It's the angelic host

  278. breaking through

  279. to these 10 to 13 year old shepherds

  280. as they're watching their sheep.

  281. And the angels declare this,

  282. An angel of the Lord

  283. appeared to the shepherds.

  284. The glory of the Lord

  285. shone around them

  286. and they were filled

  287. with great fear.

  288. And the angel declared,

  289. Unto you is born this day

  290. in the city of King David,

  291. a Savior who is Christ.

  292. The king.

  293. And the heavens peel back,

  294. so to speak.

  295. The eyes of these shepherds

  296. are opened up

  297. to behold the heavens

  298. from earth.

  299. And they hear the sound

  300. of heaven

  301. worshiping God,

  302. singing glory to God

  303. in the highest

  304. and peace on earth

  305. to all

  306. who belong to him.

  307. We sing,

  308. Veiled in flesh,

  309. the Godhead see.

  310. Hail the incarnate deity.

  311. And from our confession,

  312. we read that,

  313. In respect to our averseness

  314. and utter inability

  315. to return to God,

  316. and for our rescue

  317. and security

  318. from our spiritual adversaries,

  319. we need Christ

  320. in his kingly office.

  321. Why did heaven

  322. break forth

  323. onto earth?

  324. It's because

  325. we are in darkness.

  326. We need God

  327. to reveal himself.

  328. We need him

  329. to come to earth

  330. as the great king

  331. to pull us

  332. into his kingdom.

  333. Because without him

  334. we have no hope.

  335. So in the kingly office,

  336. God himself,

  337. in the person of Jesus,

  338. came to convince you

  339. to subdue

  340. your broken will,

  341. to draw you to himself,

  342. to uphold you,

  343. to deliver you in me,

  344. and to preserve us

  345. until we are finally

  346. joined with him

  347. in his kingdom of heaven.

  348. We long for that day

  349. when the kingdom of heaven

  350. will be fully on the earth,

  351. but we enter it spiritually

  352. when we believe

  353. in the work of Christ

  354. as our king.

  355. This is what we confess

  356. from Colossians 1.20

  357. that God made peace

  358. with sinners

  359. through the blood

  360. of his cross

  361. to reconcile

  362. all things

  363. to himself

  364. whether they be

  365. things on earth

  366. or things in heaven.

  367. So this Christmas

  368. God calls you

  369. to trust

  370. what he has revealed

  371. and he has revealed

  372. that he is the king.

  373. The king

  374. and the creator

  375. of earth.

  376. Look to him

  377. and be satisfied

  378. with the glory

  379. of your creator.

  380. Let earth

  381. receive her king

  382. by faith.

  383. Number three,

  384. this Christmas

  385. God calls you and me,

  386. this is an important one,

  387. I believe God calls you

  388. and me

  389. to not trust

  390. what we're getting

  391. off of our screens,

  392. phones and TVs,

  393. computers.

  394. Don't trust

  395. your screens.

  396. Instead,

  397. trust

  398. what he has revealed

  399. in his word.

  400. Look at what he has revealed

  401. in verse 19.

  402. He says,

  403. I have made myself

  404. known to you

  405. in verse 19.

  406. I have not spoken

  407. in secret

  408. in a dark place

  409. of the earth.

  410. I said not

  411. unto the seat

  412. of Jacob,

  413. seek ye me

  414. in vain.

  415. God made his revelation

  416. so abundantly clear

  417. so that no man

  418. can have excuse.

  419. He's faithful

  420. to his promise

  421. in Jeremiah 29,

  422. 13.

  423. You will seek me

  424. and find me

  425. when you seek me

  426. with all your heart.

  427. There may be some here

  428. who have been seeking

  429. after God

  430. and you might not

  431. even know it.

  432. He says,

  433. you will find me.

  434. I've revealed myself

  435. not in secret

  436. in a dark place.

  437. Through all of creation

  438. and through my word

  439. especially,

  440. I have made myself

  441. known.

  442. Seek me

  443. and you will find me.

  444. You can't trust

  445. what you get

  446. from the screen,

  447. but you can trust

  448. God's word.

  449. Look at what he says

  450. in verse 19.

  451. I, the Lord,

  452. speak righteousness.

  453. I declare things

  454. that are right.

  455. God's word alone

  456. can be trusted.

  457. You can trust God's word.

  458. It is right.

  459. Romans 121 says,

  460. those who do not glorify

  461. their creator as God

  462. or give thanks to him

  463. become vain

  464. in their imaginations

  465. and their foolish hearts

  466. are darkened.

  467. And that's how all of us

  468. enter this world.

  469. Our foolish thoughts

  470. are darkened.

  471. We need God

  472. through the light

  473. of his word

  474. to shine the light

  475. of his glory

  476. and renew our minds.

  477. See, God gathers those

  478. to himself

  479. from around the world.

  480. And how do God's people

  481. always organize themselves?

  482. He gathers us

  483. to himself

  484. through his word.

  485. Anywhere you go

  486. where there's a true church,

  487. it's going to be ruled

  488. by Christ

  489. through the word

  490. of God.

  491. Look at what he says

  492. in verse 20.

  493. Assemble yourselves.

  494. Come,

  495. draw near together

  496. that escape the nations.

  497. They have no knowledge

  498. that set up the wood

  499. of their graven image

  500. and pray unto a God

  501. that they cannot see.

  502. Those gods cannot save.

  503. And we are those

  504. from all the nations

  505. that God has called out.

  506. We are the ones

  507. who have heard

  508. the shepherd's voice.

  509. We've said,

  510. the word of God

  511. I can trust.

  512. Let me gather around.

  513. Let me assemble

  514. with God's people

  515. that I can hear

  516. from my Lord.

  517. God cautions us.

  518. Trust his word alone.

  519. 2 John 2, 7 says,

  520. For many deceivers

  521. have gone out

  522. into the world.

  523. Those who do not confess.

  524. Listen to this.

  525. Those who don't confess

  526. the coming of Jesus Christ

  527. in the flesh.

  528. So the doctrine

  529. of the incarnation,

  530. it is the test

  531. of a true believer.

  532. If Jesus is God,

  533. then you believe

  534. and you receive

  535. the word of God

  536. and you have life.

  537. If you deny

  538. that Jesus is God,

  539. you are not saved.

  540. And the church

  541. needs to be careful

  542. and to guard

  543. this doctrine.

  544. Augustine,

  545. I'm sorry,

  546. this was Gregory Nazianzus,

  547. a long time ago,

  548. one of the patristic fathers.

  549. He said something like this,

  550. When I look at

  551. one person

  552. of the Trinity,

  553. I look at the Son,

  554. scarcely can I have

  555. a thought of the Son

  556. without my mind

  557. going to the Spirit

  558. and the Father

  559. and the oneness of God.

  560. And when I think

  561. of the one God,

  562. creator of heaven

  563. and earth,

  564. I can't stop

  565. but also think

  566. of the Son

  567. who expressed it

  568. and the Spirit

  569. who ministers.

  570. You see how

  571. our thoughts of God

  572. should be that way.

  573. As we think of

  574. God the Creator,

  575. we think of Father,

  576. Son,

  577. and Holy Spirit.

  578. And the incarnation

  579. reveals that Jesus

  580. is God.

  581. John 1.18 said

  582. that no one

  583. has ever seen God,

  584. the only God

  585. who is at the Father's side.

  586. He has made God

  587. known on earth.

  588. That's what Jesus

  589. came to do.

  590. In our confession,

  591. we believe this,

  592. that it pleased the Father

  593. that all fullness dwell

  594. in our Lord Jesus Christ

  595. so that being holy,

  596. harmless,

  597. and undefiled,

  598. full of grace and truth,

  599. Jesus Christ

  600. might be thoroughly furnished

  601. to execute

  602. the office

  603. of mediator

  604. and surety.

  605. The full deity of God

  606. dwelt in Jesus

  607. so that He could be

  608. the Savior

  609. of the world.

  610. As I was driving

  611. in this morning,

  612. I just saw the snow,

  613. the mud,

  614. the grass,

  615. some cows,

  616. and I thought,

  617. that's how God

  618. entered this world.

  619. Mild He lays

  620. His glory by,

  621. born that man

  622. no more

  623. may die.

  624. See that Jesus

  625. is God

  626. and His word

  627. alone,

  628. His revelation

  629. alone

  630. is life

  631. for your soul.

  632. God has given us

  633. a satisfying glory

  634. to behold.

  635. Behold that glory

  636. in Jesus

  637. and live.

  638. Number four,

  639. this Christmas,

  640. God calls you

  641. and me

  642. to receive

  643. His good news.

  644. God calls you

  645. and me

  646. to receive

  647. His good news.

  648. Not only to hear it

  649. and sing about it,

  650. not even to believe it

  651. for your family,

  652. for those you love.

  653. Personally,

  654. receive His good news

  655. again today.

  656. the gospel

  657. is for Christians,

  658. right?

  659. Receive the gospel

  660. again today.

  661. Look at what He says

  662. in verse 21.

  663. Tell ye

  664. and bring them near,

  665. yea,

  666. let them take

  667. counsel together.

  668. He's saying,

  669. spread the word.

  670. There is good news

  671. for you

  672. who are sick

  673. and dying.

  674. It's like in Jesus,

  675. as He goes around,

  676. one sick leper

  677. who's dying

  678. of a sickness

  679. He cannot heal,

  680. tells the good news

  681. to another,

  682. there's a man

  683. who can heal us.

  684. Let's go to Him.

  685. Gather around.

  686. Go to the mountaintops.

  687. Let others know

  688. there is good news.

  689. You need a Savior.

  690. And there is one

  691. who can save.

  692. And before He says

  693. how He does this,

  694. He tells us

  695. what He is doing.

  696. In verse 21,

  697. look at that,

  698. verse 21,

  699. He says,

  700. Who hath declared this

  701. from ancient time

  702. and who hath told it

  703. from that time?

  704. Have not I,

  705. the Lord?

  706. God says,

  707. I will come to save.

  708. And how I will do it

  709. is the way I have told

  710. from long ago.

  711. In verse 21,

  712. He says,

  713. There is no God else

  714. beside me,

  715. a just God

  716. and a Savior.

  717. I will compromise

  718. my justice

  719. and I will save.

  720. How will you do that, Lord?

  721. I'll do it the way

  722. I told long ago.

  723. I, the only God

  724. and Savior,

  725. declared that the seed

  726. of Eve in Genesis 3.15

  727. would crush

  728. the serpent's head.

  729. That's how I'll save you.

  730. I, the only God

  731. and Savior,

  732. declared that the seed

  733. of Abraham

  734. would one day

  735. inherit a great nation.

  736. Genesis 12,

  737. I, the only God

  738. and Savior,

  739. declared that the seed

  740. of David

  741. in 2 Samuel 7

  742. would bring peace

  743. to His kingdom.

  744. How will I do it?

  745. I will do it the way

  746. I have promised.

  747. So there we are

  748. in darkness,

  749. deceived by our own

  750. sinfulness.

  751. We are being destroyed

  752. by evil inside and out.

  753. And we hear that God

  754. is just

  755. and God is the creator

  756. and God is powerful.

  757. We know that a just king

  758. will punish all evil.

  759. We don't want a king

  760. that's not just,

  761. but I know that I'm evil,

  762. so that puts me

  763. in a position.

  764. I know I deserve

  765. to be punished.

  766. I want God

  767. to put an end

  768. to all evil,

  769. but that means

  770. Him putting an end

  771. to me.

  772. And it should strike

  773. fear in us,

  774. like those angels

  775. of the glorious presence

  776. of God struck a fear

  777. in the angels.

  778. Luke 2.10 says,

  779. the angel

  780. had to comfort them.

  781. He said,

  782. fear not.

  783. And this is the good news

  784. for us from Isaiah 45.

  785. I bring you

  786. good tidings

  787. of great joy

  788. for you,

  789. which shall also be

  790. for all the people.

  791. God says in verse 22,

  792. you need to see this

  793. one more time

  794. and receive

  795. the good news today.

  796. Jesus reveals this to you.

  797. Look unto me

  798. and be ye saved,

  799. all the ends

  800. of the earth.

  801. For I am God

  802. and there is none else.

  803. How do you receive

  804. this salvation?

  805. What does verse 22 say?

  806. You look.

  807. You don't work for it.

  808. You don't buy it.

  809. You don't prove yourself

  810. worthy of it.

  811. You look.

  812. As the old song put it,

  813. you have nothing

  814. to do

  815. but to look

  816. and live.

  817. There is life

  818. for a look

  819. at the crucified one.

  820. There is life

  821. at this moment

  822. for thee.

  823. Look at Jesus.

  824. God has given us

  825. a satisfying glory

  826. to behold

  827. and it's his own son

  828. that he holds up

  829. for us to see.

  830. Look unto me

  831. and be saved.

  832. All the ends

  833. of the earth,

  834. I am God

  835. and there is

  836. none else.

  837. One of my favorite

  838. preachers in the 1800s,

  839. Charles Spurgeon,

  840. as a teenager,

  841. he was feeling

  842. the weight of his sin.

  843. It was weighing

  844. so heavy on him

  845. and in God's grace,

  846. God drew him

  847. to go through the snow

  848. like many of us

  849. were out there

  850. shoveling

  851. and getting wet today.

  852. And as a teenager,

  853. his family didn't

  854. venture out

  855. but he did.

  856. He marched by foot

  857. to the closest church

  858. where he lived

  859. and you know the story.

  860. That stormy day,

  861. very few people showed up.

  862. The preacher

  863. didn't make it in

  864. so another man

  865. stood up

  866. and read this one verse

  867. from Isaiah 45, 22.

  868. And he hadn't had much time

  869. to prepare a full sermon

  870. so he just kept

  871. repeating that

  872. over and over.

  873. look,

  874. look,

  875. look.

  876. The word of God

  877. ministers to Charles Spurgeon.

  878. He let go

  879. of all of his

  880. self-righteousness.

  881. He trusted that promise.

  882. Look and be saved.

  883. There is life

  884. for a look

  885. at the crucified one.

  886. There is life

  887. in this moment

  888. for you.

  889. In Luke 2, 20,

  890. we read that

  891. the shepherds returned

  892. glorifying

  893. and praising God

  894. for all that they had

  895. heard and seen.

  896. We sing with them

  897. who have looked at Christ.

  898. Peace on earth

  899. and mercy mild.

  900. God and sinners

  901. reconciled.

  902. We look at Jesus.

  903. We see the glory

  904. of God.

  905. God.

  906. Number five,

  907. this Christmas,

  908. God calls you and me

  909. to not care

  910. about the glory

  911. of man.

  912. Don't care about

  913. the glory of man

  914. because God

  915. has given us

  916. satisfying glory

  917. to behold.

  918. God calls us

  919. to look

  920. unto Him

  921. in this life

  922. because He will

  923. prove

  924. His word

  925. true

  926. to all

  927. in the life

  928. to come.

  929. God calls you

  930. and me

  931. to look

  932. at Him

  933. now

  934. in this life.

  935. He will

  936. prove His word

  937. true

  938. to all

  939. in the life

  940. to come.

  941. Look at verse

  942. 23.

  943. The Lord

  944. says,

  945. I have sworn

  946. by myself.

  947. I am the

  948. covenant

  949. keeping God.

  950. I am the

  951. one who

  952. sealed the

  953. covenant

  954. with Abraham.

  955. I am the

  956. one who

  957. swore by

  958. myself

  959. to the

  960. people of

  961. Israel

  962. with Moses.

  963. I am

  964. the Lord

  965. God

  966. who swore

  967. between the

  968. Father and

  969. the Son

  970. witnessed by

  971. the Spirit

  972. in the covenant

  973. of redemption

  974. before the

  975. foundation

  976. of the world.

  977. I have

  978. sworn

  979. that I

  980. will

  981. save

  982. a people

  983. for myself.

  984. verse 23.

  985. I have sworn

  986. by myself

  987. the word

  988. has gone

  989. out of my

  990. mouth

  991. in righteousness

  992. and shall

  993. not return.

  994. I will do

  995. what I

  996. promised

  997. that unto

  998. me

  999. every knee

  1000. shall bow

  1001. every tongue

  1002. shall swear

  1003. surely

  1004. shall one

  1005. say

  1006. in the

  1007. Lord

  1008. have I

  1009. righteousness

  1010. and strength

  1011. even to

  1012. him

  1013. shall men

  1014. come

  1015. and all

  1016. that are

  1017. incensed

  1018. against him

  1019. shall be

  1020. ashamed.

  1021. verse 25

  1022. is the

  1023. promise

  1024. that

  1025. in

  1026. the

  1027. Lord

  1028. shall

  1029. all

  1030. the

  1031. seed

  1032. of

  1033. Israel

  1034. be

  1035. justified

  1036. and

  1037. shall

  1038. glory.

  1039. I want

  1040. to draw

  1041. your attention

  1042. to verse

  1043. 24.

  1044. Who is

  1045. it that

  1046. is justified?

  1047. It's those

  1048. who say

  1049. in the

  1050. Lord

  1051. do I

  1052. have

  1053. righteousness

  1054. and

  1055. strength.

  1056. I have

  1057. no

  1058. righteousness

  1059. and

  1060. strength

  1061. on my

  1062. own

  1063. but

  1064. I

  1065. have

  1066. righteousness

  1067. in

  1068. God.

  1069. I have

  1070. no

  1071. strength

  1072. on my

  1073. own

  1074. but

  1075. God

  1076. is

  1077. my

  1078. strength.

  1079. I

  1080. have

  1081. looked

  1082. to

  1083. him

  1084. for

  1085. salvation.

  1086. He

  1087. alone

  1088. can

  1089. save.

  1090. In

  1091. the

  1092. Lord

  1093. we

  1094. are

  1095. justified.

  1096. That's

  1097. why

  1098. Psalm

    Psalms 110:3

  1099. 110

  1100. verse

  1101. 3

  1102. says

  1103. that

  1104. God's

  1105. people

  1106. those

  1107. who he

  1108. has

  1109. freely

  1110. justified

  1111. they

  1112. will

  1113. offer

  1114. themselves

  1115. freely.

  1116. In

  1117. holy

  1118. garments

  1119. they

  1120. will

  1121. come

  1122. into

  1123. his

  1124. house

  1125. and

  1126. worship

  1127. him

  1128. standing

  1129. in

  1130. the

  1131. righteousness

  1132. of

  1133. their

  1134. Savior.

  1135. In

  1136. the

  1137. last

  1138. two

  1139. words

  1140. of

  1141. verse

  1142. 25

  1143. all

  1144. those

  1145. who

  1146. belong

  1147. to

  1148. the

  1149. true

  1150. spiritual

  1151. Israel

  1152. which

  1153. are

  1154. those

  1155. that

  1156. Christ

  1157. purchased

  1158. all

  1159. those

  1160. shall

  1161. be

  1162. justified

  1163. and

  1164. shall

  1165. glory.

  1166. glory

  1167. do

  1168. you

  1169. glory

  1170. in

  1171. God?

  1172. Do

  1173. you

  1174. behold

  1175. his

  1176. satisfying

  1177. glory

  1178. as

  1179. he

  1180. set

  1181. it

  1182. forth

  1183. in

  1184. the

  1185. sun?

  1186. If

  1187. you

  1188. are

  1189. justified

  1190. if

  1191. your

  1192. sins

  1193. are

  1194. forgiven

  1195. you

  1196. will

  1197. glory

  1198. in

  1199. God.

  1200. In

  1201. Matthew

    Matthew 2:10

  1202. 2

  1203. verse

  1204. 10

  1205. we

  1206. hear

  1207. of

  1208. these

  1209. wise

  1210. men

  1211. who

  1212. had

  1213. followed

  1214. the

  1215. star

  1216. when

  1217. they

  1218. saw

  1219. the

  1220. sign

  1221. that

  1222. God

  1223. had

  1224. given

  1225. they

  1226. rejoiced

  1227. exceedingly

  1228. and

  1229. when

  1230. they

  1231. were

  1232. come

  1233. into

  1234. the

  1235. house

  1236. where

  1237. Mary

  1238. Joseph

  1239. and

  1240. Jesus

  1241. lived

  1242. they

  1243. saw

  1244. the

  1245. young

  1246. child

  1247. now

  1248. with

  1249. Mary

  1250. his

  1251. mother

  1252. and

  1253. they

  1254. fell

  1255. down
