  1. Amen. Amen.

  2. I'm so thankful for that grace. I mean, could you imagine if you

  3. had to try to get to heaven on your own, Imagine what that

  4. would be like? Like you said, I know how that

  5. would go wouldn't go over so well for us, but it's all about

  6. grace. It's all about what Jesus Christ

  7. did for us, and that's an amazing thing.

  8. Turn your Bibles this morning, if you will, to Psalm 119, Psalm

  9. 119. It's amazing the difference that

  10. that that God's true work in our lives can make.

  11. And when someone is religious for the sake of being religious

  12. instead of for being right with God, they're not very impressive

  13. to the world. They're not very impressive to

  14. the Christians, they're not very impressive to God, I can tell

  15. you that much. And.

  16. But when God? Does a work in somebody's heart

  17. when somebody truly gets saved, when somebody is truly wanting

  18. to be right with God for the sake of being right with God

  19. because they want to please him. It's the greatest possible

  20. experience that we can ever have.

  21. And I, I, I used that word experience very loosely because

  22. it's not just some experience that you have.

  23. It's not some bright light that you saw coming towards you or

  24. some dream that you had in the middle of the night that your

  25. salvation experience. There has got to be a moment

  26. when you come to the cross, you drop those burdens there at the

  27. foot of the cross, and you give them to Christ.

  28. You take that weight of your sin that you've been carrying for

  29. all of those years, and you give it to him.

  30. He can handle it. His shoulders are big enough to

  31. handle the weight of the sin of the whole world.

  32. He's already taken it on himself.

  33. But Psalm 119, verse #41 Of course, David wrote this Psalm

  34. and, and it's, it's, it's, it's very interesting.

  35. It's an alphabetical Psalm. If you look at the very

  36. beginning, most of your Bibles probably have headings, but

  37. Aleph, Beth, and so on. It goes all the way down through

  38. the Hebrew alphabet and every verse mentions something about

  39. God's word in some way or another.

  40. Either the the talking about his His word or his testimonies or

  41. His commandments or His statutes or something is is mentioned

  42. about those things in every verse and the Bible says this in

  43. verse number. 41 Let thy mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even

  44. as even thy salvation according to Thy word, so shall I have

  45. wherewith to answer him that reproacheth me.

  46. For I trust in Thy word, and take not the word of truth

  47. utterly out of my mouth. For I have hoped in Thy

  48. judgments. So shall I keep Thy law

  49. continually, forever and ever, and I will walk at liberty, for

  50. I seek Thy precepts. I will speak of Thy testimonies

  51. also before kings, and will not be ashamed, and I will delight

  52. myself and Thy commandments which I have loved.

  53. My hands also will I lift up unto Thy commandments which I

  54. have loved, and I will meditate in Thy statutes.

  55. Psalm 119. Is a tremendous passage that

  56. gives us the confidence that we can trust God's Word.

  57. David did that. Many others throughout the whole

  58. course of the Old Testament did that, and even many into the New

  59. Testament. And by the way, there's many,

  60. many times that the New Testament references the Old

  61. Testament. Jesus told them to search the

  62. Scriptures. Obviously they had the

  63. scriptures available to them. You know, many people today want

  64. to talk about the, the idea that, well, we don't have the

  65. originals and the originals are the scriptures and we just have

  66. copies of the originals and maybe they're accurate, maybe

  67. they're not. Jesus didn't say search the

  68. scriptures or Jesus didn't say search the, the copies that you

  69. have and hopefully you can find what you're looking for in

  70. there. He said search the scriptures.

  71. That means they had accurate copies of God's word.

  72. They didn't have the originals then.

  73. They were gone by far by the time Jesus came on to the came

  74. into the world and and the disciples were on the scene.

  75. But he told them search the Scriptures.

  76. They had God's word many times. He referenced Jesus referenced

  77. the Old Testament many times. Peter and Paul and the apostles

  78. and and the writers of the New Testament referenced the Old

  79. Testament. We have God's word in our hands

  80. and we can trust that when he says that he will preserve his

  81. word. He preserved his word even

  82. through all of eternity. He's going to preserve His word.

  83. If He's promised to preserve it through all of eternity, then we

  84. can trust that we haven't even now, because we're not even

  85. close to eternity yet. We've just, we haven't even

  86. started. But Psalm 119, verse 41, let thy

    Psalms 119:41

  87. mercies come also unto me, O Lord, even Thy salvation,

  88. according to that word. The first thing to be sure is to

  89. be sure that you have what God gives.

  90. God gives us that mercy. God gives us salvation.

  91. God gives us the opportunity to accept him as our Savior.

  92. Second Corinthians chapter 13 and verse 5 says examine

    2 Corinthians 13 chapter mention

  93. yourselves. Whether you be in the faith,

  94. prove your own selves, know you not your own selves how that

  95. Jesus Christ is in you, except you be reprobates to the world

  96. offers plenty of options, plenty of of alternatives to the true

  97. gospel of Jesus Christ. There were plenty of things to

  98. distract us from knowing the truth.

  99. The devil has hundreds if not thousands of other religions in

  100. the world that are preaching everything but the truth that we

  101. find in God's word. They're there to keep people

  102. from the true salvation through Jesus Christ.

  103. But true salvation is God's gift, which is His mercy to us,

  104. but we have to be saved on His terms.

  105. We can't do it the way that we want to.

  106. So many man made religions and so many man made ideas and so

  107. many things that men have come up with that you have to do this

  108. and you have to do this and you have to do this and this and

  109. this in order to get to heaven. And if you don't keep those

  110. things throughout your entire life, then there's no chance for

  111. you. You have to go before some man

  112. and ask him to forgive your sins.

  113. You have to go do all of these sacraments and do all these

  114. different things, and you have to keep them faithfully

  115. throughout your entire life if you expect to have any chance of

  116. getting to heaven. That's not what the Bible says.

  117. I'm thankful that it's not based on my works of righteousness,

  118. which we have done, but according to His mercy.

  119. He saved us by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the

  120. Holy Ghost. It's all about Jesus.

  121. It's not about me. We have to turn from our sins in

  122. repentance to Him, and He'll pardon US based on the promise

  123. that He will. And repentance is a change of of

  124. mind that leads to a change of heart that leads to a change of

  125. direction. I don't stop sinning in order to

  126. be saved. I stop sinning because I have

  127. been saved. And there ought to be a change

  128. in the life of somebody who knows Jesus Christ as their

  129. Savior. When you're truly saved, then

  130. you have something in your life that the world needs to hear.

  131. Verse 42 of Psalm 119. So shall I have wherewith to

  132. answer him that reproacheth me. For I trust in thy word, that

  133. behind that word reproacheth is the idea of contempt and

  134. mockery. The wisdom of the world is

  135. opposed to the wisdom of God's Word.

  136. But what are your answers when somebody scrutinizes your

  137. so-called relationship with God? Emotion, excitement, more

  138. blessings than they have. Well, I'm a member of the

  139. church. I I live a sinless life because

  140. I know Christ is my savior. Now I'm a Sinner just like all

  141. of those people are sinners. I'm not any better than they

  142. are. Jesus Christ died to save them

  143. just as much as he died to save me.

  144. We're just beggars. Telling other beggars where to

  145. find bread doesn't make me any more loved by God.

  146. But that's the whole point of the gospel.

  147. We all have sins, but where are my sins now?

  148. Are you still living in them? Are you still drowning in them?

  149. Or are they under the blood of Jesus Christ?

  150. Because to be saved means to have your blood, your sins under

  151. the blood of Christ, to have them covered.

  152. So when you stand before God, he doesn't see the list of all of

  153. your sins. He only sees the blood of Jesus

  154. Christ covering your sins. That's what I'm that.

  155. That's what I'm excited to present to God on the day that I

  156. stand before him. Can imagine what it must be like

  157. for somebody that doesn't know Jesus Christ as their Savior.

  158. And know that you've got all those sins that are on your

  159. account and have no way that you can ever get them taken care of

  160. because you've never been to the cross.

  161. You've never had the mercy extended to you because you

  162. haven't accepted it. Oh, he's extending that mercy to

  163. everybody. The mercy that that that comes

  164. from somebody who was condemned to die and condemned to spend an

  165. eternity in hell. But that mercy that gives us an

  166. opportunity to escape that punishment and to have a eternal

  167. life in heaven. It's there for everybody.

  168. You just have to accept it. And those who have never

  169. accepted that mercy, those who have never accepted that grace,

  170. those who have never laid the burden of their sins at the foot

  171. of the cross, never can understand what it's like to

  172. have those sins forgiven. They can't understand the peace

  173. that passes all understanding. They don't know what it's like

  174. because they're living as a natural man.

  175. And the Bible says the natural man receiveth not the things of

  176. the Spirit of God. Neither can he know them because

  177. they are spiritually discerned. But those who do know Jesus

  178. Christ as their Savior, Their eyes have been opened, they've

  179. been turned from darkness to light, and from the power of

  180. Satan unto God. They've received forgiveness of

  181. sins and inheritance among them, which are sanctified by faith

  182. that is in Jesus. Christ and oh, to know Jesus

  183. Christ as your savior is the greatest thing in the world, the

  184. psalmist said. I trust in Thy word, which

  185. literally means I have confident expectation because of your

  186. word. I know that You're not going to

  187. pull the rug out from under me. Means to attach yourself firmly

  188. to something for support. John 3 verse 16, probably the

    John 3:16

  189. most memorized verse in all the Bible.

  190. For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son,

  191. that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have

  192. everlasting life. A little boy read that verse,

  193. and he'd heard it many times in Sunday school.

  194. But he was laying in his bed one night and that he was reading

  195. through that verse, and somehow it just hit him like it had

  196. never hit him before. And he realized that he was a

  197. Sinner and he was on his way to hell.

  198. And he'd heard many times how to accept Jesus Christ as his

  199. Savior, but he'd been putting it off and he had been, he had been

  200. neglecting to do that because he was just a boy.

  201. He didn't need Jesus Christ, did he?

  202. He wasn't that bad of a Sinner compared to the adults that he'd

  203. heard about in his life. But that night, that.

  204. Verse hit him differently and he dropped down onto his knees

  205. beside his bed and he accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior.

  206. And he slipped back into bed. And as he lay there thinking

  207. about what he had just done, he said, I don't don't feel any

  208. different. Don't feel like anything's

  209. happened to me. He said, I wonder, I wonder if

  210. God really did save me when I called out to him.

  211. And as he lay there, he started to think that it was probably

  212. the devil that was putting those thoughts in his mind and, and,

  213. and Satan that was tormenting him about his, about accepting

  214. Jesus Christ as his savior. And so he had been told that

  215. Satan loved darkness and he, he kind of thought that Satan was

  216. lurking somewhere around his bed.

  217. And since the darkest place in his room was under his bed, he

  218. opened up his Bible and he. Turn to John 316 and he dropped

  219. that Bible down on the floor and he slid it under the bed and he

  220. said, see what the Bible says right there, Read it for

  221. yourself. You see, that's essentially the

  222. same conclusion that the psalmist came to here in this

  223. passage here. Read it for yourself.

  224. That's the best answer to give to Skull for this.

  225. There's power. There's mighty power in God's

  226. Word. So shall I have wherewith to

  227. answer him that reproaches me For I trust in thy word for

  228. those who know Jesus Christ that as their Savior, we're saved.

  229. We're on our way to heaven. We've taken care of that part of

  230. our lives, but we need to make sure that we're completely

  231. trusting God. And that's that's what the rest

  232. of this passage is about. The psalmist writes here.

  233. There's there are ways for four tests if you will.

  234. That I want to share with you this morning to help us

  235. determine whether or not we are completely trusting God with our

  236. lives. That's the title of my message

  237. this morning, Four ways to know that you are trusting God.

  238. Let's pray and then we'll look at this passage this morning.

  239. Father, again, we thank you so much for your goodness to us.

  240. We thank you for the opportunity we have to study your word

  241. through this passage this morning.

  242. And God, may you help us. May you help us to evaluate our

  243. own lives. May you help us to do to

  244. determine whether or not we are completely trusting you with

  245. every aspect of our lives. First and foremost, that we're

  246. trusting you for salvation. But beyond that, God, may we,

  247. may we have the confidence that we can trust in you completely.

  248. Well, thank you again for all that you do for us in Jesus

  249. name, Amen. First thing I want you to see

  250. from this passage. And by the way, we're going to

  251. jump around to a few different passages this morning, but we're

  252. going to keep coming back to Psalm 119.

  253. So maybe put a ribbon or a bookmark in there and we're

  254. going to come back to it. But I want you to understand

  255. this first of all, four tests. How do you know if you're

  256. completely trusting God? Well, first of all, is the way

  257. we wait. We can tell if we're completely

  258. trusting God by the way that we wait.

  259. Psalm 119 and verse #43 the Bible says.

  260. And take not the word of truth utterly out of my mouth, for I

  261. have hoped in thy judgments. The psalmist wanted nothing in

  262. his life or his circumstances that that would give his enemies

  263. a handle against him. And often we find ourselves in

  264. situations where it seems as if God's word has failed, where it

  265. seems like God has failed us, where we prayed and we asked God

  266. for something and and it just seems like God didn't come

  267. through for us. The enemies of God are quick to

  268. pounce on those things. And the skeptic picks out some

  269. grave injustice that's been done to some believer.

  270. And he says, there, look at that.

  271. Look, God let you down. Imagine the the the skeptics and

  272. the scoffers against Job. Oh, they came.

  273. They were, they were in the form of his friends and they scoffed

  274. at Job and they said, look, look what's happening to you.

  275. I believe they, in fact, I know they trusted God.

  276. God came to each one of Job's friends at the end of the book

  277. of Job and he told them, you, you, you, you spoke as foolish

  278. men. You need to go make a sacrifice

  279. and you need to go ask forgiveness for the things that

  280. you said to Job. But there are many out there who

  281. are looking for opportunities to just throw it back in God's

  282. face. Oh, you, you gave everything to

  283. the Lord. You trusted on him.

  284. You, you gave up that old wicked lifestyle.

  285. You gave away all those things that you used to do and now look

  286. how God's treating you. And they try to throw it back in

  287. the face of those who are trusting in God.

  288. And they say there explain that many things in life seem to

  289. nullify the truth of the Bible to the satisfaction of the

  290. unbeliever. God, however, is not working on

  291. the puny time scale of microscopic man.

  292. He's working for eternity, and his word is made of the stuff

  293. that eternity is made of. When God made a promise you can

  294. take, you can bet that God is going to see that through to the

  295. to the end. You can be sure that he's going

  296. to keep his promise if he made one to you.

  297. And there's so many Bible examples that that that point to

  298. the fact that the ultimate truth of God's word may sometimes be

  299. seen right away, but sometimes it may be decades or even

  300. centuries before God's promise comes to pass.

  301. But God will always keep His promise.

  302. Would your trust have wavered if you were Noah pounding nails

  303. into that ark for 70, five, 8090100120 years?

  304. Noah sat there laboring on that ark, did not see God's promise

  305. come to pass for all of that time.

  306. Would you, would your trust in God have wavered if you were

  307. Joseph counting prison bars? When you trust, trusted God and

  308. you put everything you had, you put all of your confidence in

  309. him. And now here you are, sitting in

  310. a dungeon, sitting in a prison in Egypt, far away from your

  311. friends, far away from your family, seemingly far away from

  312. God. Would your trust have wavered if

  313. you were in that situation? How about if you were Job

  314. watching the destruction of everything that God had given

  315. him, Thousands of camels, thousands of cattle, thousands

  316. of donkeys, 10 children gone in an instant.

  317. Would your trust have wavered in God?

  318. If you were Job sitting there scraping the wounds that God

  319. allowed Satan to pass on your body from the crown of your head

  320. to the sole of your feet, would you have, Would your trust in

  321. God have wavered? If your wife was sitting next to

  322. you saying Job just curse God and die, would your trust have

  323. wavered? Think about Abraham.

  324. God promised to make a great nation out of him, and at 100

  325. years old he was still sitting there without an heir, without a

  326. child to pass that, to make it that that great nation out of.

  327. Would your faith in God have wavered?

  328. But each of these men saw God's through, saw God come through to

  329. them. For them all the way to the end,

  330. because they waited on him and they waited on God's timing.

  331. How do you wait on God's timing? What word is in your mouth?

  332. The Bible says and take not the word of truth utterly out of my

  333. mouth. What word is in your mouth as

  334. you wait for God's timing? Anger God.

  335. Why haven't you come through for me yet?

  336. Bitterness. Doubt.

  337. When we're truly trusting God's Word, then our faith is going to

  338. demonstrate itself through the choice of our words.

  339. And there may be times even when you doubt in your own mind.

  340. There may be times even when you just don't know how things are

  341. going to work out. But what's the words that come

  342. out of your mouth? Are they words of trust?

  343. Are there words of faith? Are there words of anger and

  344. bitterness against God because God didn't do it the way that

  345. you thought He wanted to do it? Listen, God doesn't work on our

  346. timetable. God works on his own timetable,

  347. and He's got all of eternity to make that time work.

  348. Or we look at it through the lens of our own puny

  349. understanding. God's understanding is far

  350. greater than ours. His ways are not our ways.

  351. His thoughts are not our thoughts.

  352. We don't understand it because we're not looking at it from the

  353. heavenly view. We're looking at it from the

  354. earthly view. We we only can look around.

  355. God can look down and see all of it.

  356. How do you trust Him? Proper waiting brings a greater

  357. capacity for service. See that the more we learn to

  358. wait on God, the more God can use us in His service.

  359. Job came to that realization. When he hath tried me, I shall

  360. come forth as gold. Gold is far much more useful

  361. than than than clay. Gold is far more useful than

  362. brass. It's far more valuable than

  363. those things. And Job in that waiting,

  364. exhibited the patience that comes to a man who is fully

  365. trusting in God, fully trusting in God's Word.

  366. And Job said when he tried me, I shall come forth.

  367. As gold, are you waiting for God to show you the next step in

  368. your life? I'll tell you this.

  369. Get busy for God. I don't know what God has for me

  370. next. I don't know exactly what God

  371. wants me to do, especially for our young people who might be in

  372. high school or college or maybe just after college.

  373. I don't know what God wants me to do.

  374. I'll tell you what you do. Get busy for God.

  375. You get busy working for God. He will show you the next step

  376. in your life. But waiting on God gives you a

  377. greater capacity for service to Him.

  378. We're in the waiting process for a building right now.

  379. Oh, man, the the worst thing we could do is hold off on all the

  380. ministries while we wait for God to come through for us.

  381. We're just, we're just going to wait.

  382. We can't start this. We can't do that because we just

  383. don't know what's going to happen.

  384. No, get busy for God. Get busy doing something for him

  385. that this church has been built in the four years that we've

  386. been waiting for God to do something when it comes to a

  387. building. God's built this church during

  388. that time. And if those of you have been

  389. here for, for, for more than five, 6-7 years, know that

  390. that's exactly what's happened. We've been in a waiting pattern

  391. for a long time waiting for God to do something.

  392. But as much as we know how we've been busy for the Lord in that

  393. time and God has built his church because we don't just sit

  394. there and wait and say, oh, poor us.

  395. We don't know what's going to happen next.

  396. Poor us. We have a building situation

  397. that that this building is going to be torn down more than

  398. likely. And then what are we going to

  399. do? I guess we just sit here and

  400. wait for God to do something. No, we wait for God to do

  401. something, but we get busy while we're waiting for him to do it.

  402. Let him work through you. When it passed through the

  403. school of trials were more useful as servants of God.

  404. Turn over to Isaiah chapter 40. Most of you probably know this

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  405. verse, but I think it's worth looking at it again and seeing

  406. it with these with fresh eyes when it comes to the idea of

  407. waiting on God and having patience on His timing.

  408. Because this is what God says about those who wait for Him.

  409. Isaiah chapter 40 and verse 31. But they that wait upon the Lord

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  410. shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings

  411. as eagles. They shall run and not be weary.

  412. They shall walk and not faint. That's what He does for those

  413. who wait on Him. So are you completely trusting

  414. in God? Well, you're going to know, by

  415. the way, that you wait. Are you busy serving him?

  416. Are you busy living, living for Him while you're waiting for Him

  417. to show you the next step? Are you busy living for Him

  418. while you're waiting to tell you what He wants you to do?

  419. That'll determine where you're at and your trust of God the way

  420. that you wait. But also, I want you to see this

  421. back in Psalm 119. How do you know if you're

  422. completely trusting in God? Well, first of all, by the way

  423. that you wait, but secondly, by the way that you walk.

  424. He says this in verse #44 So shall I keep thy law

  425. continually, forever and ever. Temporary delays and setbacks

  426. were not going to undermine the psalmist faith.

  427. He was determined to let his actions line up with his words.

  428. And that's exactly what DL Moody did.

  429. And that explains why he was so successful as an evangelist and

  430. why unlettered man as he was the agnostics, the intellectuals,

  431. the skeptics of that day just could not defeat him.

  432. I read a book about DL Moody just a couple months ago.

  433. It was very eye opening and very insightful into what how God was

  434. able to use DL Moody. But in 1883, DL Moody was in

  435. Britain, and he was he challenged the freethinkers and

  436. the atheists that were in that country to.

  437. Come to a meeting and he was going to speak just to them.

  438. And obviously there was many unsaved in in, in the countries

  439. that that he preached in and many people were saved through

  440. the meetings, but. There were those.

  441. Who who consider themselves to be agnostics or freethinkers and

  442. atheists. And DL Moody wanted to talk

  443. specifically to those people. And so at that time, a guy by

  444. the name of Charles Bradlaw was the the maybe you can call him

  445. the reigning champion of atheism.

  446. He was the one that that that just championed the cause of.

  447. There is no God. And so as soon as this man heard

  448. about DL Moody's challenge, he got all of his clubs together.

  449. He got all of the people that he knew together.

  450. And he said, we're going to go and take over this hall.

  451. We're going to take over this meeting.

  452. And we're going to show DL Moody just who it is that he really

  453. does serve. And so DL Moody, when the

  454. meeting started, turn to his text in Deuteronomy chapter 32

    Deuteronomy 32 chapter mention

  455. and verse #31 their rock is not as our rock, even our enemies

  456. themselves being judges. And began to pour just broadside

  457. after broadside of incidents where he he gave stories of, of

  458. men and women whose deathbeds he sat by, some who were infidels

  459. and some who were Christians. And he explained to them the

  460. difference between somebody who was dying as a Christian and

  461. somebody who was dying as an infidel.

  462. And one after another, he just told story after story and and

  463. and and challenged them to to to decide which ones had the best

  464. foundation. Which ones had faith that they

  465. could hope and rest in? And before long, tears started

  466. to flow in that audience. Men who were so hardened against

  467. God's word began to soften just a little bit.

  468. But the great mass of men, these dark and determined faces,

  469. defiant against God, they sat there seemingly unmoved.

  470. Deal Moody continued to preach this message to them and.

  471. And hit them really on their most vulnerable points.

  472. And at the end of the meeting, DL Moody said, now we're going

  473. to stand and we're going to sing.

  474. Only trust Him and. We're going to.

  475. Open the doors to the back of this auditorium and if anybody

  476. wants to get up and leave, this will be your opportunity.

  477. Instead of stampeding for the door, 5000 men that were in that

  478. auditorium that night all stood up, mumbled through the words of

  479. that song and every single one of them sat back down and DL

  480. Moody started to explain to them in simple terms how they could

  481. become a Christian. And after a few minutes one of

  482. them from the audience shouted out I can't deal.

  483. Moody said just hang on hear, hear the rest of the gospel for

  484. just a few more minutes. And as he continued on, one of

  485. them stood up and raised his first and said I won't and deal.

  486. Moody, with all those men in that audience, said, it is I

  487. will or I won't. For every single man in this

  488. auditorium this evening, either you will accept Jesus Christ or

  489. you won't accept Jesus Christ. It's a battle for your will.

  490. He said your champion is that man who just stood up right

  491. there in the middle and said I won't.

  492. If you want to join him, then join him.

  493. And there was silence. Nobody, nobody answered.

  494. Yeah, Moody said, man, this was his quote.

  495. You've had your champion there in the middle of the hall, man

  496. who said I won't? Thank God that no man says I

  497. won't. Now who will say I will?

  498. And it seemed like in an instant the Holy Spirit broke loose on

  499. the crowd of Christ's enemies. The men sprang to their feet,

  500. their faces wet with tears, and many of them began to shout.

  501. I will, I will deal. Moody sat all those men down,

  502. and one by one they were able to talk to those men and lead them

  503. to Christ. He knew the value of eternity.

  504. He said. Your rock is different than my

  505. rock. Deuteronomy chapter 32 said that

    Deuteronomy 32 chapter mention

  506. exact same thing. Their rock is not as our rock,

  507. even our enemies themselves being judges.

  508. He knew he was safe. He had taken hold on the

  509. permanence of God's Word. It doesn't matter what the

  510. infidels say. It doesn't matter what the

  511. atheists say. It doesn't matter what the

  512. Gnostics and the agnostics and everybody else says.

  513. It matters what God's Word says. And we can trust God's Word

  514. waiting is not meant to be a time of doing nothing.

  515. Every moment is a preparation for the next step in God's plan.

  516. If you really believe that everything in your life happens

  517. for a reason and the and that every.

  518. Moment in your life is planned by God, then what are you living

  519. for you the the way you live or the way that you walk is going

  520. to back that up. And so we we prove that we trust

  521. God not only by the way that we wait, but by the way that we

  522. walk. What are you doing for God while

  523. you're waiting? What are you doing for God while

  524. you're waiting for that next step?

  525. Every moment is a preparation for the next step in God's plan.

  526. If you really believe that everything in your life happens

  527. because God allows it to happen, then that waiting is helping you

  528. get to the next step that God wants you to do.

  529. It's more important, it's important for us to see the big

  530. picture than it is for us to understand the small.

  531. Parts, right? What we understand is just a

  532. small little piece in that puzzle.

  533. I know that many of you have probably taken the time, whether

  534. recently or a long time ago, whatever happens to be.

  535. You put a puzzle together at some point in your life and when

  536. you pick up a little puzzle piece, it doesn't look like it

  537. makes a whole lot of sense because it's just random little

  538. colors and maybe a line here or a line there.

  539. But you have no idea if you were just pick up that that little

  540. piece of the puzzle what in the world is supposed to be a part

  541. of. But when you take that little

  542. piece and you fit it into the puzzle, it makes perfect sense

  543. and God is seeing the entire puzzle.

  544. All we see many times is that little piece, and it doesn't

  545. make sense to us, but it makes sense to Him.

  546. And so He's expecting us to just wait on him.

  547. And in the process of waiting on him, we're supposed to be

  548. walking in the way that He wants us to walk.

  549. Trusting God means leaving the big picture to His concern.

  550. He understands it all. He knows how everything is going

  551. because he sees the upper side. We can only see the bottom.

  552. He knows the next. Step that we need to take, but

  553. we need to trust Him to help us do it.

  554. My part, as the text says, is continual obedience, or

  555. literally obedience without interruption.

  556. Psalm 119 and verse 45. And I will walk at liberty, for

  557. I seek thy precepts. Most people would not describe

  558. walking according to God's laws the way the psalmist did.

  559. They would describe the life of faith as a life of bondage

  560. rather than a life of liberty. I'm a Christian, so I can't do

  561. that. I can't do this thing.

  562. I can't go here, I can't go there.

  563. I can't do all the things that I'd like to do.

  564. To the unsaved man, it might look like a life that's hedged

  565. in with restrictions, but the psalmist saw God's law as the

  566. perfect law of liberty. It didn't mean that he couldn't

  567. do whatever he wanted. It means that he was free to do

  568. what God wanted him to do with his life.

  569. That is what he says is true freedom.

  570. So shall I keep thy law continually, forever and ever,

  571. and I will walk at liberty, for I seek thy precepts.

  572. How many millions of people are a slave to drugs?

  573. How many millions of people are a slave to alcohol?

  574. I'll tell you what it was. It was some encouraging news

  575. that I read a little bit earlier this week.

  576. This there is a some statistics that had come out that said that

  577. only 56% of people say they drink.

  578. But you know that there's more alcohol being consumed in the

  579. United States than than there ever has been.

  580. Less people drinking, more people consuming alcohol means

  581. there's so many more people in our country that are addicted to

  582. alcohol, people who are, who are addicted to smoking and addicted

  583. to so many other things. Bad temper, pride, evil

  584. passions. That's not freedom, that's

  585. bondage, and I have the freedom in Christ to not have to do

  586. those things. We have the privilege of

  587. following God and walking after His law, and that's where true

  588. freedom begins. And so we prove our trust in God

  589. by the way that we wait, by the way that we walk.

  590. And #3 I want you to see this in verse #46 I will speak of thy

  591. testimonies also before kings and will not be ashamed.

  592. We prove our trust in God by the way that we witness.

  593. I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings and will not

  594. be ashamed. You know that means something

  595. when you say that you'll give a testimony of God before kings.

  596. King had the ability to cut your head off if he felt like doing

  597. that. If he was, if you offended him,

  598. you could disappear and he could make it happen.

  599. It's kind of the ultimate test of whether or not you're going

  600. to share the gospel. And God says, Hey, I want you to

  601. go talk to your neighbor and you say, I can't do it right.

  602. I want you to go talk to your coworker.

  603. I'm a little too nervous. I'm afraid of what they're going

  604. to say. I'm afraid of what they're going

  605. to think. I want you to talk to your

  606. family. Oh, but, but, but, but he says,

  607. I will speak of thy testimonies also before kings and will not

  608. be ashamed. We have nothing to be ashamed of

  609. in God's Word. It's it stood the test of time.

  610. It's commanded the allegiance to some of the world's finest

  611. thinkers, and we need not to be ashamed of this book.

  612. It has the answers for all of life's problems.

  613. If we really believe that, then we'll share its message with

  614. other people. Many people in the Bible were

  615. successful for God because they were not ashamed to share God

  616. with others. Oh, look at think of all the

  617. examples. Paul did it, Daniel did it,

  618. Esther did it. So many others in God's Word

  619. shared the the Bible with others unashamedly before before people

  620. who had the ability to take their life.

  621. Look, God protected them. Paul shared the Gospel with the

  622. emperors of Rome. The enemies, the avowed enemies

  623. of Christianity. And he ended up ultimately

  624. losing his life for it. But he said, I'm not ashamed of

  625. the gospel of Christ, for it's the power of God unto salvation.

  626. Daniel did it. He got sent to the lion's den.

  627. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did it and they ended up going

  628. through the fire. Esther did it.

  629. God delivered her, God delivered all of them out of the out of

  630. the hand of the King. The list could go on and on, but

  631. boldness is a key and greeting to proving our trust in God.

  632. If we really trust him, if we really believe Him, then we will

  633. share Him with others. So many other religions who

  634. don't even have the truth are willing to share their faith.

  635. How you think about how how devout the Mormons are to get

  636. their gospel out, their young people take two years of their

  637. life and dedicated strictly to the church to try to spread the

  638. message of Mormonism. And people make fun of the

  639. Jehovah's Witnesses because they're constantly knocking on

  640. their doors and trying to share their faith.

  641. But they're sharing their faith. They have a reputation that

  642. they're going to go out from door to door and share that

  643. truth, at least in their mind. And yet here we know that we

  644. have the truth of God's Word. From God's Word.

  645. We know that if people don't accept the truth of the gospel

  646. plus nothing, minus nothing, no works, no anything else, then

  647. they'll go to heaven for all of eternity.

  648. If they don't, they'll spend an eternity in hell.

  649. And yet we don't share it to our shame, Paul said, I'm not

  650. ashamed of the gospel of Christ. Why don't we share it?

  651. We ashamed of it. That's what the world thinks.

  652. When you won't share the message of the gospel, you must be

  653. ashamed of it. Or why wouldn't he tell me?

  654. All right, all you think about businessmen, salesman, we're

  655. trying to make a sale. They'll do anything.

  656. They'll do anything. They'll say anything they got to

  657. say. They'll they'll promise you

  658. anything. They got to promise you to get

  659. you to buy their product because they believe in it and they want

  660. you to buy it. Yet when it comes to sharing the

  661. greatest message that's ever been given, we shrink away and

  662. we cower in a corner. We're afraid of what people are

  663. going to think. We have the truth.

  664. Are you completely trusting your God?

  665. If you're completely trusting in God, then you'll have no

  666. problem. I'll speak the testimonies also

  667. before kings, and I will not be ashamed.

  668. That's what the psalmist said. Not many people who are willing

  669. to stand up and tell it like it is, regardless of the cost.

  670. They're afraid of political correctness, correctness.

  671. They're afraid of the cost. What's your testimony?

  672. Are you willing to share your faith with others?

  673. Or what? Are you willing to prove your

  674. trust in God by the way that you witness?

  675. But I want you to see one last one.

  676. In Psalm 119, verse #47 we prove our trust in God by the way that

  677. we wait, by the way that we walk, by the way that we

  678. witness. And lastly, we prove our trust

  679. in God by the way that we worship.

  680. Verse #47 And I will delight myself in thy commandments,

  681. which I have loved. My hands also will I lift up

  682. unto thy commandments, which I have loved.

  683. And I will meditate in thy statutes.

  684. How long is the list of the things that you really get

  685. excited about? Oh, you can say, well, I, I love

  686. church more than anything else. But then you go to a football

  687. game and you act like a wild nut cheering for the team.

  688. Oh, that's something that you definitely get excited about.

  689. Or your your favorite show I got to be home to watch this thing

  690. or, or they're coming out with a new episode of this or that or

  691. this movie is coming out and I kind of see it as soon as it

  692. comes out. Tax rebate.

  693. Yeah, a lot of people get excited about that more than

  694. church. Where does God fall in that?

  695. List of the things you get excited about.

  696. I know you're going to show up. You're going to be here for

  697. church. You're going to be here when the

  698. doors are open. You're going to have your Bible

  699. and you can be dressed up and you're going to be you're going

  700. to be here in church. But how excited are you to be

  701. here or as many times I got to go to church again today because

  702. they're going to ask me where I was at if I don't show up, don't

  703. want to be there. But I just got to got to punch

  704. the clock and be there at church.

  705. Got to check that off my list so I can go do the rest of the

  706. things that I want to do with Sunday.

  707. Got to be able to say I went to church today.

  708. So so I don't feel bad for not going.

  709. But when we. Trust God with all of our

  710. hearts. It's not going to be it's not

  711. going to be hard at all to put God at the top of that list.

  712. Not just things that you endure, not just things that maybe you

  713. enjoy a little bit here and there, but things that you get

  714. excited about. Delight.

  715. He says, my hands also will I lift up unto thy commandments,

  716. verse 47 and I will delight myself in thy commandments.

  717. Delight means to have an intense emotion toward.

  718. Do you have an intense emotion toward God's commandments?

  719. Do you have an intense emotion toward God's Word?

  720. Do you have an intense emotion toward the things of God?

  721. Do you have an intense emotion towards sharing the message of

  722. the gospel? Where's your delight?

  723. Is it in the worshipping God? Is it in the opportunity to come

  724. to his house? Is it coming to church?

  725. Just something that we do as a way to make ourselves feel

  726. better on Sunday mornings. Many people across the country,

  727. and maybe even you sitting here this morning are in that exact

  728. position. I got to do my duty, got to show

  729. up at church, got to be there just to make sure that I can

  730. check that box off and make God happy for a couple hours and

  731. then I can go live my life the way that I want to for the rest

  732. of the week. This is something we really look

  733. forward to, and when we don't make it to a service, we feel

  734. like we truly miss something. We can't wait to make it back

  735. for the next service. Now, I'll tell you what happens

  736. with most people. The baby has a runny nose and so

  737. everybody has to stay home. Amazing how that works, isn't

  738. it? Oh, if you were going to a ball

  739. game, doesn't matter what the baby's got going on, the wife

  740. can stay home, right? Well, I'm, I'm going on

  741. vacation. I'm leaving Monday so I got to

  742. stay home on Sunday to pack and I'm going to get.

  743. Back on Sunday, so that way I don't have to be at church and I

  744. can just pick everything up with my life on Monday.

  745. Oh, that's the way a lot of people live their lives.

  746. They're not excited about being in church and oh, I missed it

  747. again. Oh well, I'll catch it next

  748. week. That's not delighting in the

  749. worship of God, that's enduring the worship of God.

  750. And most Christians just endure it.

  751. They don't delight in it. And that proves that our trust

  752. is not in him. It's in all the other things

  753. around us. It's in all the other things

  754. that we rather be doing than sitting here in church right

  755. now. All right, I'll go to church

  756. this morning. It's a good thing there's no

  757. football games on at 10:00. They don't come until one or two

  758. or something like that in the afternoon.

  759. And at least I can go to church and then I can go home and watch

  760. football. That's the thing that I really.

  761. Want to do? On Sunday, man, Sunday night

  762. really messes up my schedule of watching all those football

  763. games right now. You would never say that out

  764. loud, but that's where it's at. That's where you prove your

  765. trust. In Him, that's where you prove

  766. where your loyalty really lies. And maybe it's not football,

  767. Maybe for you it's baseball, or maybe for you it's cornhole or

  768. something. I don't know.

  769. But a lot of us put a lot of things in front of our worship

  770. of the Lord. Turn over, if you will, to

  771. Isaiah chapter 12 and we'll be done.

    Isaiah 12 chapter mention

  772. We prove our love. Prove our love for and our trust

  773. in God by the way that we worship him.

  774. It's just as important on the inside as it is on the outside.

  775. By the way, a lot of people worship on the outside and be

  776. miserable on the inside. Isaiah chapter 12 and verse #2

    Isaiah 12 chapter mention

  777. Behold, God is my salvation. I will trust and not be afraid

  778. for the Lord. Jehovah is my strength in my

  779. song. He also has become my salvation.

  780. There's a man that was being led by a guide over a very dangerous

  781. Alpine trail, and they came to a place where a rock jutted out

  782. into the path and it only left about a little footstep worth of

  783. trail left. And so that guide, he had taken

  784. people many times over that same exact trail.

  785. He got down on his knees and he laid his arm down and his hand,

  786. his elbow was up against that rock, and his hand was extending

  787. out over the edge of that precipice.

  788. And he told the man that he was guiding, step around this rock

  789. and go ahead and step in my hand and use that as your way to get

  790. around. And that man, obviously he said

  791. a little, little, little sketchy that I'm stepping on somebody's

  792. hand instead of on something solid.

  793. And that guide said this hand has never lost anybody yet.

  794. That's exactly what Jesus Christ has done for us.

  795. That hand, that pierced hand of Jesus Christ has never lost

  796. anybody. Yet he says no man is able to

  797. pluck them out of my Father's hand.

  798. Nobody. He's not lost anybody yet.

  799. When you know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you have that

  800. eternal security. You know that you're on your way

  801. to heaven. But then comes the opportunity

  802. that you have to prove your trust in God.

  803. AB Simpson wrote this. How often we trust each other

  804. and only doubt our Lord. We take the word of mortals and

  805. yet distrust His word. But oh what light and glory

  806. would shine, or all our days if we would always remember.

  807. God means just what He says. We must trust in God for all the

  808. details of our lives, but can't just be words, it has to be

  809. backed up with our actions. We prove our trust in God by the

  810. way that we wait. We prove our trust in God by the

  811. way that we walk while we're waiting.

  812. We prove our trust in God by the way that we witness while we're

  813. walking and waiting. We prove our trust in God by the

  814. way that we worship. What are those things prove

  815. about your trust in God? What are those things prove

  816. about your trust in God? Let's pray.

  817. Father, again, we thank you so much for your goodness to us.

  818. Thank you that we have your word that we can trust.

  819. We thank you that you're a God that will do just what he says.

  820. Oh God, I pray that you'd help us to be people who fully trust

  821. in you and that we'd prove it by the way that we wait, by the way

  822. that we walk, by the way that we witness, by the way that we

  823. worship you and God where we fall short.

  824. Would you help us? Help us to make the decisions

  825. that need to be made this morning to put us in that

  826. position where we are completely trusting you with everything we

  827. have in our lives. God will thank you for all that

  828. you do for us in Jesus name, Amen.

  829. If you would stand at your seats with your heads bowed.

  830. And your eyes. Closed.

  831. I want to give you an opportunity this morning to

  832. respond to the message. If God spoke to your heart as

  833. the piano plays, the invitations open, you come.
