  1. But all right, let's jump into this tonight turn, if you will,

  2. to Acts chapter 20. This is kind of our theme verse

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  3. for this, this lesson. And there's, there's a good bit

  4. left here. So I was going to try to get

  5. into the second one. The, the, the lesson on faith is

  6. not very long. But rather than trying to jump

  7. into both of these and get both of these done tonight, I'm just

  8. going to finish up with this repentance.

  9. And it's a very, very important, very, very important concept in

  10. the in God's Word, a very important doctrine, if you will.

  11. But let's go back to page 11 and just remind ourselves of what

  12. are some of the false views of repentance.

  13. And first of all is that repentance is not reformation.

  14. It's not changing your life. We see a lot of that happening

  15. with, you know, Alcoholics Anonymous.

  16. People can go and they can reform.

  17. They can change does not mean it's repentance.

  18. Repentance is also not doing penance.

  19. The Catholic Bibles translate repentance as doing penance, but

  20. that's not a concept that we find in God's Word.

  21. It's not as something that they made-up and then translated in

  22. that way. Repentance is also not just

  23. remorse. We talked about King Saul, we

  24. talked about Judas. Both of them were sorry, but

  25. they but it was, it was not repentance towards God.

  26. It was a repentance of I'm sorry I got caught essentially.

  27. And then repentance is not just believing on Christ.

  28. There's there's a good faction of people out there who say that

  29. repentance is just turning from unbelief to belief.

  30. But as as we already mentioned as well, that's why Acts chapter

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  31. 20 and verse 21 is so important, testifying both of the Jews and

  32. also to the Greeks, repentance towards God and faith toward our

  33. Lord Jesus Christ. Both of those are mentioned

  34. together. So if those are things that

  35. repentance is not, then what is biblical repentance?

  36. Well, this is very, very important, very necessary.

  37. I hope you got a pen. Maybe you can write some some

  38. notes down here in the margins. And what I will do is get a

  39. couple of you to read as well like we did last week.

  40. So maybe we'll start with Kevin's row on this side and and

  41. brother Johnny's row on this side so we can grab those

  42. microphones and we'll get to some of these here in just a

  43. little bit. Actually, Kevin, if you will, if

  44. you will look up Acts 64, six and who wants to read on that

  45. row? Julie, why don't you?

  46. Why don't you read Isaiah? Oh, sorry.

  47. Acts 2620. We'll get there first and then

  48. behind Brother George. Anybody on that?

  49. What you want to read, Brother George?

  50. All right, let's do Isaiah 4522 and 23.

  51. Frank, you want to read what you want to read?

  52. OK, All right. Macy.

  53. Romans 87 then, then brother Gary's row.

  54. All right, Charlie, you want to read, look up Luke 2342 and then

  55. let's see here. First Thessalonians 19 Somebody

  56. on brother Ryan's row want to read.

  57. All right, First Thessalonians 19 and we'll stop there.

  58. We'll, we'll get to some more of them, but we'll finish up.

  59. We'll, we'll do these before we get any further.

  60. All right, It'll save us a little bit of time too, if we

  61. can just have you ready to read and just make sure you get the

  62. mic and have it ready to go by the time it gets to you.

  63. May be easier to just kind of set it on the chair next to you

  64. or something. So it doesn't, I mean, I guess

  65. they can kind of control it from back there too.

  66. But all right, So what is, what is biblical repentance then?

  67. Well, first of all, repentance is admitting that I have sinned

  68. against God and being sorry for that sin.

  69. Acts chapter 20 and verse 21. We've already read repentance

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  70. towards God and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.

  71. So repentance is toward God because He is the one that I

  72. have sinned against. Right.

  73. I mean, I can be sorry for something that I've done or you

  74. know, you think about somebody, a drunk driver, let's say that

  75. ends up killing somebody in a car accident.

  76. And they're they're so sorry that it happened.

  77. They're so sad for the family that has to go through all those

  78. things and they sit in prison. And, you know, many times you

  79. see their testimony when they get sentenced and they're just

  80. broken down. They're in tears and they're

  81. just I'm. So sorry, I'm so sorry.

  82. If I could go back and redo it, I would do it all over, you

  83. know, do everything differently. I would have never taken that

  84. drink, blah, blah, blah. They're sad, they're sorry, but

  85. it's not repentance toward God. Then that's what repentance in

  86. God's Word is. He made man for himself, and He

  87. made man to obey his laws. But we've turned our back on him

  88. and broken his laws, and He requires that we repent of that.

  89. So repentance is admitting that I'm not good, that even my

  90. supposed righteousness is as filthy rags before a thrice holy

  91. God. You've probably.

  92. Seen that term before? What do you, what does thrice

  93. holy God mean? Anybody know, Josh?

  94. It's the Trinity. It is the Trinity.

  95. But we see there's, there's a passage in the Bible where we

  96. get that from. Yeah, right.

  97. Holy, holy, holy, right. Three times holy.

  98. That's that's where thrice holy God comes from.

  99. I'm sure you've seen that term before, but that's what that is.

  100. But. Acts 64.

  101. Six. Isaiah 64 Sorry, I said X Isaiah

  102. 64 six. But we are all as an unclean

  103. thing, and all are unrighteous. Excuse me.

  104. And all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

  105. All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags, even the best

  106. things that we can do as filthy regs.

  107. Now this is where I say that it's an important thing.

  108. You know what, what we see so often, and I'm, you're seeing a

  109. lot of this now. And I, and I'm, you know, I'm

  110. thankful that, you know, at the memorial service that they did

  111. for Charlie Kirk, I think there was a couple of them that gave

  112. the gospel clearly. And there's a possibility that

  113. some people could get saved from that.

  114. What, what's a grave danger that you see that's going to come out

  115. of something like this is it's going to be a very, very

  116. ecumenical movement. Everybody's together in this,

  117. the Catholics and the Presbyterians and the Methodists

  118. and the Baptists and everybody that's non denominational,

  119. everybody is seeing a revival, right?

  120. Most of them are not right. Most of them are not giving the

  121. gospel. Most of them are not preaching

  122. the Gospel of Christ that they're preaching the gospel of

  123. Christ with all of their own things added to it.

  124. So yes, we're seeing a turn back toward things that are godly,

  125. but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's repentance.

  126. And I'm seeing this happen a lot.

  127. Boy, I'm telling you what, we had so many new people at

  128. church. We had 300 people that got

  129. baptized. That's not salvation.

  130. It's not so there's no repentance, right?

  131. It's that's what we see when people profess Christ through

  132. baptism, but that's not what we see when people truly repent in

  133. God's Word. Baptism is the faith aspect of

  134. it. I'm willing to put my faith in

  135. Christ, but it's faith only. Salvation requires repentance

  136. and faith. You have to have both, and we'll

  137. talk a little bit more about that in just a minute.

  138. So repentance means it's admitting that I've sinned

  139. against God and being sorry for that.

  140. Repentance also means to turn around or to change directions.

  141. Acts 2620. But showed first unto them of

  142. Damascus, at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coast of

  143. Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn

  144. to God, and do work to meet. For.

  145. Repentance. OK, that's an important that's

  146. an important phrase there. Do works meet for repentance?

  147. What does that word meet mean? Fit right?

  148. Do works that show that you've repented.

  149. All right, Well, no, Yeah, it's not.

  150. We're not saved by our works. No, we're not saved by our

  151. works. And that's not what we're

  152. saying. But the Bible very clearly says

  153. here that we should do works, meet for repentance, right?

  154. Words that show that you have repented.

  155. There ought to be something different about you.

  156. It's something that happens in the heart and the mind.

  157. Actually. Turn over to Exodus Chapter 9.

    Exodus 9 chapter mention

  158. Let's just have everybody turn over there.

  159. I came across this this morning in my reading.

  160. And obviously I knew that I was doing, I'd already studied

  161. through a lot of this and, and what I was planning to say

  162. tonight and then this, these verses just came right up.

  163. And I think this is such a perfect example.

  164. Of exactly what happens with so many people who think that

  165. they're saved, but there's never been any kind of repentance.

  166. Look at Exodus Chapter 9. And this is the obviously going

    Exodus 9 chapter mention

  167. back several chapters before this.

  168. This is Pharaoh in Egypt. Pharaoh.

  169. Hardened his heart, he hardened his heart, he hardened his heart

  170. and then God started hardening his heart to try to to to try to

  171. show his power. And he makes that very clear.

  172. But the same thing is happening here again in Exodus chapter 10.

    Exodus 10 chapter mention

  173. Sorry, Exodus Chapter 9. And they they just had all the

    Exodus 9 chapter mention

  174. disease where all the beasts of the, you know, all their, all

  175. their animals got killed or most of them died in the pestilence.

  176. And then the boils come along and then the hail.

  177. And Pharaoh calls Moses and he says, take this away.

  178. I can't handle this. We've got to do something to get

  179. rid of it. And look what Pharaoh says.

  180. OK, if if you were, if you were part of this quick prayer ISM

  181. crowd, if you were part of this man, it's just faith.

  182. It's just believing in God. Pharaoh was a Christian.

  183. Look at verse 27. Pharaoh sent and called for

  184. Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned.

  185. This time the Lord is righteous, and I and my people are wicked.

  186. Intrigue the Lord, for it is enough that there be no more

  187. mighty thunderings in hail, and I will let you go, and you shall

  188. stay no longer. That is Pharaoh's salvation

  189. testimony according to most people, right?

  190. Pharaoh admitted that he sinned. Pharaoh admitted that God was

  191. God, that the Lord is righteous. But look what happens next.

  192. Verse 29. Moses said unto him, As soon as

  193. I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands into

  194. the Lord, and the Thunder shall cease.

  195. Neither shall there be any more hail, that thou mayest know how

  196. that the earth is the Lord's. But As for thee and thy

  197. servants, I know that you will not yet fear the Lord God.

  198. And the flax and the barley was smitten, for the barley was in

  199. the ear, and the flax was bold, but the wheat and the rye were

  200. not smitten, for they were not grown up.

  201. And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad

  202. his hands unto the Lord. And the thunders and hail

  203. ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

  204. And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the

  205. thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his

  206. heart, he and his servants. And the heart of Pharaoh was

  207. heartened, and neither would he let the children of Israel go,

  208. as the Lord had spoken by Moses. Is that works Meet for

  209. repentance. No, it's not right.

  210. He hardened his heart. He, he very specifically, when

  211. he saw that everything was starting to go back in his

  212. favor, he basically backed, you know, went back on everything

  213. that he had just said. Right.

  214. Is anybody under the illusion that Pharaoh was was saved?

  215. Is Pharaoh in heaven today? Highly, highly doubted.

  216. And we don't have everything that Pharaoh ever said, but

  217. highly, highly doubt that Pharaoh was a Christian.

  218. But he's got a testimony. He's got the same testimony that

  219. a lot of people have. Oh, I sinned.

  220. I believe that God is holy. I believe that God's righteous

  221. baptize me and let's go on with life.

  222. I can live however I want to live my life because now I'm a

  223. Christian and I'm on my way to heaven.

  224. That's the testimony of most people.

  225. Pharaoh has that exact same testimony, but yet none of us

  226. would say that Pharaoh was saved.

  227. Why? Because of all of his works.

  228. After that, there was no evidence of any kind of

  229. repentance. There was no evidence of any

  230. kind of works meet for repentance, right?

  231. So repentance means to turn around.

  232. Pharaoh obviously gave mental assent to God.

  233. Pharaoh. Had some rough things that

  234. happened in his life and he was ready to admit that here's God

  235. and I know that's where it's coming from, but Pharaoh did not

  236. do work. To meet for repentance, well,

  237. let's let's go to Isaiah 45. You don't have to turn there

  238. because somebody else has that. But the third thing here,

  239. repentance means to surrender to God's rule.

  240. Isaiah 4522 and 23 Look unto me, and be ye saved all the ends of

  241. the earth, for I am God, and there is none else.

  242. I have sworn by myself. The word is gone out of our

  243. mouth in righteousness, and shall not return.

  244. That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

  245. OK, so repentance means to surrender to God's rule.

  246. And we see a couple points along with that.

  247. The first one being that repentance is to receive Christ

  248. as Lord. Romans chapter 10, verse 9 and

    Romans 10:9

  249. 10. That if thou shalt confess with

  250. thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart,

  251. that goddeth Raisin from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

  252. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness, and with the

  253. mouth confession is made unto salvation.

  254. For there is no difference between the Jew or the Greek

  255. right. Romans 10/13 For whosoever shall

  256. call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

  257. That's the gospel. In a nutshell, well, it is, but

  258. there's more to it than that. That is, that is the faith side

  259. of it, right? Repentance is to receive Christ

  260. as Lord. To believe is to receive Jesus.

  261. Christ as my only Savior, meaning nothing else can save

  262. me. Not my good works, not not going

  263. to a priest, not doing this thing or that thing, or

  264. believing on anything else and not believing, believing on

  265. anything else can save me. So to believe is to receive

  266. Jesus Christ as my only Savior, and to repent is to receive him

  267. as my. Only Lord.

  268. And what that means is I am counting on nobody else.

  269. I am not. I am not putting anything else

  270. in the place that He belongs in. I have completely surrendered to

  271. Him. The Bible says the Sinner is at

  272. enmity against God because of his rebellion to God's rule.

  273. Does somebody have Romans 87? All right, let me see.

  274. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is

  275. not subject to the law of God, neither in needed indeed can.

  276. Right. The carnal mind is enmity

  277. against God, for it is not separate to the law of God, and

  278. neither indeed can be. Enmity means the quality of

  279. being an enemy, and we see that. We see it in first John, We see

  280. it in other places. That word that's used to repent

  281. means that I reject this attitude and surrender to God's

  282. rule over my life. I don't want to be the enmity of

  283. God. I don't want to be at enmity

  284. with God. I don't want to have the quality

  285. of being an enemy. And so we see this surrender

  286. throughout the New Testament in the lives of those who were

  287. saved. Those who receive Jesus in a

  288. saving manner called upon him as Lord.

  289. Luke 2342. I give that one to somebody, OK.

  290. And he said to Jesus, When will Remember Me?

  291. When thou hast cometh into thy Kingdom.

  292. Right, that's the thief on the cross.

  293. Lord, Remember Me. When thou cometh into thy

  294. Kingdom, it is receiving Jesus Christ, calling upon him as

  295. Lord. Lord, Remember Me.

  296. So repentance means to surrender to God's rule.

  297. It's essentially to receive Christ as the Lord of your life

  298. in addition to accepting him as the Savior, the only Savior, and

  299. the only Lord. Repentance.

  300. Then the third, the 4th point is repentance is not a change of

  301. life. It's a change of mind about God

  302. and sin that results in a change of life.

  303. Now, those who are the critics, if you will, of repentance,

  304. those who say that it's just changing from unbelief to

  305. belief. And by the way, Steven Anderson

  306. is one of these guys that that really promotes this.

  307. If you've not heard his name, you're not missing anything.

  308. But he is. He is.

  309. He is the the de facto head, I guess you could say, of what's

  310. called the New Independent Baptist movement.

  311. And he is one of the ones that promotes this very, very much.

  312. It's just a change from unbelief to belief.

  313. And, and, and one of the main reasons that they say that is

  314. because they say if you, if you say that you have to repent of

  315. your sin, then that's a work. You're saying that you have to

  316. turn from your sin and turn to God, then that's worked.

  317. And we're not saying that at all.

  318. Repentance is not a change of life.

  319. Repentance is a change of mind about God.

  320. It's a change of mind about your sin and that will result in a

  321. change of life. That's what the works meet for.

  322. Repentance is. It's not that okay, I've turned

  323. from enough of my sin. Now I can consider myself saved.

  324. It is. I want to turn from all of that

  325. sin. There are sins that I'm going

  326. to. Commit that I'm not going to get

  327. victory over right away. But I don't want that lifestyle

  328. anymore. I don't want to live that way

  329. anymore. It's a complete change of mind

  330. about my sin. I know that it sent Christ to

  331. the cross. I know that it hurts the heart

  332. of God. I know that it grieves the Holy

  333. Spirit. I don't want to do that anymore.

  334. It's a change of mind about my sin.

  335. It's a change of mind about God, and it's a change of direction.

  336. I was going that way. I loved my sin.

  337. I lived in my sin. I enjoyed my sin.

  338. I don't want that anymore. I've changed my mind and I've

  339. changed my direction and I'm going away from that.

  340. So naturally, when you change your mind and you change your

  341. direction, you're not going to do the things that you used to

  342. do. But my salvation took place when

  343. I, when I made that turn, right, Not after I got this far down

  344. the road from that turn. It's not the, it's not the,

  345. it's, it's not the stopping of sinning that saves me.

  346. It's the repentance and the faith that saves me.

  347. But I don't want that anymore. And it ought to result in a

  348. change in my. Life.

  349. Many who believe or pray the sinner's prayer have no

  350. intention to change it or to allow God to take control of

  351. their lives. And I, and I gave you that

  352. example last week of that young man that took two or three

  353. minutes with this guy and, and led him to Christ, gave him the

  354. assurance that he was on his way to heaven.

  355. And we came and talked to him just a few minutes after that.

  356. And he said, I have no, I have no intention of stopping my

  357. drinking. I have no intention of stopping

  358. doing this. I have no intention of stopping

  359. doing that. That's not salvation.

  360. Mental assent to who God is, mental assent to what Christ did

  361. on the cross in dying and raising again from the dead is

  362. not salvation. Repentance is absolutely

  363. necessary for salvation, as we've already talked about.

  364. They want to take it to heaven. That keeps them out of hell, but

  365. they want to continue to live as they please.

  366. They want to believe in Jesus, but they have no interest in

  367. obeying Him. It's not biblical salvation.

  368. The Sinner must be ready to turn from his false gods, including

  369. self worship, in order to worship and serve the true God.

  370. And we see this happening in First Thessalonians 19.

  371. Somebody have that for the Ryan? They themselves show shoot of us

  372. what they are of thinking in. Ye had unto you, and now ye turn

  373. to God from idols to serve the living and true.

  374. God, OK, that's repentance. That's turning away from what

  375. you used to have and turning to God, right?

  376. Turning away from your idols and turning to God.

  377. Now let's go to the next page, page 13.

  378. Here's a couple examples, and these are just quotes from

  379. pastors, evangelists, but repentance.

  380. According to evangelist James Stewart, this is kind of a good

  381. way to explain it is an assassin laying down his knife.

  382. The hand that clutches the Assassin's knife must open.

  383. Eric can grasp. The grasp the gift that's

  384. intended victim proffers and opening that hand, though a

  385. single act has a double aspect and purpose.

  386. Accepting the gift implies a turning from the crime the heart

  387. was on, was bent on, and it was the gift itself that worked the

  388. change. Faith is the open hand

  389. relatively to the gift. Repentance is the same hand,

  390. relatively. Not only to the gift, but more

  391. especially to the dagger that has flung from it.

  392. The intention of sin is gone with genuine repentance.

  393. You're not going to be perfect. You're going to sin again.

  394. But the intention to sin is gone.

  395. And essentially the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus

  396. Christ our Lord. But in reaching out for that

  397. gift. I am throwing aside all of the

  398. other things, all of the other harm that I intended.

  399. To do to Christ. Here's another good example.

  400. Repentance is a thief returning the stolen property.

  401. Lester Roloff, He said, I believe we ought to make right

  402. what we can make right. What if I was staying with a

  403. group of preachers and one of them stole my wallet while I was

  404. sleeping? The next day he comes up to me

  405. and tells me he's terribly sorry and asked me to forgive him.

  406. I would be glad to hear that he is sorry for stealing my wallet,

  407. but I would certainly want and expect more than that from a

  408. repentant thief. I would want my wallet back.

  409. I don't believe he has really repented unless he brings my

  410. pillfold back. I don't believe you have

  411. repented until you get right and say Lord, I'm going to live

  412. different from now on. And by the grace of God you will

  413. live different. Not perfect, but different.

  414. And I and we're. Not saying that you have to live

  415. a perfect life in order to be saved was not saying that you

  416. have to to stop sinning in order to be saved, but you ought to

  417. want to stop sinning. In order to be saved.

  418. So what are some biblical examples of repentance?

  419. Well, we've got a we've got a few good ones here.

  420. And of course one of the best examples of that.

  421. Let's all turn over to Luke chapter 15 is the prodigal son.

    Luke 15 chapter mention

  422. Luke chapter 15 and verse #17 of course you know the story.

    Luke 15 chapter mention

  423. He went out and wasted all of his money on a riotous living.

  424. He spent everything that he had and the next thing you know, he

  425. finds himself feeding the swine. He's in there with the hogs and

  426. it's said that he would much rather have eaten what they were

  427. feeding the hogs. But then verse 17 says, and when

  428. he came to himself, he said, how many hired servants of my

  429. father's have bred enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger.

  430. I will arise and go to my Father, and we'll say unto him,

  431. and here's the key, Father, I have sinned against heaven and

  432. before thee, and I'm no more worthy to be called thy Son.

  433. Make me as one of the hired servants.

  434. Now obviously he knew that he had sinned against his Father,

  435. right? He had wasted the money.

  436. He had done very, very foolishly, but he recognized

  437. that his sin was not just against his dad.

  438. His sin was against God. And that's a.

  439. Huge, huge, huge key. He arose verse 20 and came to

  440. his father. But when he was a great way off,

  441. his father saw him and had compassion and ran and fell on

  442. his neck and kissed him. That that's that.

  443. That refers to conviction and spiritual enlightenment by the

  444. Holy Spirit. He humbled himself.

  445. He acknowledged that his sin was against God and against his

  446. Father. He turned around so that he was

  447. facing in a different direction. This is repentance.

  448. The evidence of his repentance is that he returned home and he

  449. made things right with his father.

  450. He humbled himself and he was willing to become a mere

  451. servant. The repentance resulted in a

  452. change, but he repented. When he was sitting in that hog

  453. slop, that's where the repentance took place.

  454. The repentance took place when he recognized that he had sinned

  455. against heaven and against his Father, and that repentance led

  456. to a change in his direction. He didn't go back to the world

  457. and say, let me go see if I can make my fortune here.

  458. This is not a good situation, he said.

  459. I've sinned against heaven. I've sinned against my father.

  460. Let me go back and make things right.

  461. Here's another example, and I think you know this one probably

  462. pretty well as well. We're not too far from it.

  463. Just let's turn over to Luke chapter 19, the story of

    Luke 19 chapter mention

  464. Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus, he was a tax

  465. collector and obviously very hated because he stole money

  466. from people and he heard Jesus. Jesus said in verse #5

  467. Zacchaeus, Make haste and come down, for today I must abide at

  468. thy house. And he made haste, and came

  469. down, and received him joyfully. Verse 8.

  470. Zacchaeus stood and said unto the Lord, Behold, Lord, the half

  471. of my goods I give to the poor, and if I have taken anything

  472. from any man by false accusation, I restore him

  473. fourfold. And what did Jesus say?

  474. Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation, Come to this house.

  475. For as much as much as He also is the son of Abraham.

  476. For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was

  477. lost. Zacchaeus repented and was

  478. converted so dramatically that it became an honest man who paid

  479. back those he had cheated. It was not the fact that

  480. Zacchaeus paid those people back.

  481. That was not his salvation. That was not his repentance.

  482. His repentance came before that, when he was under conviction,

  483. when Jesus was sitting in his house.

  484. But his repentance resulted in a change of life, a change of

  485. direction, and a desire to make the things right that he had

  486. done that were that was wrong. Here's another one.

  487. Let's turn over to 1st Thessalonians chapter 1 and

  488. verse #9 First Thessalonians 19, the Thessalonians themselves,

  489. and we already, we already alluded to this one, Brother

  490. Ryan already read it for us. But I think it's interesting

  491. this, this order that we see mentioned here is important.

  492. First Thessalonians 19 For they themselves show of us what

  493. manner of entering in we had unto you, and how you turned to

  494. God from idols to serve the living and true God.

  495. This is biblical repentance. Notice that they didn't turn

  496. from idols to God. They turn to God from idols.

  497. The order is important. If a man turns to God, he is his

  498. back to his old gods and old life.

  499. That's true repentance. It's repentance towards God.

  500. As we read in Acts chapter 20 and verse 21, unless a person

    Acts 20 chapter mention

  501. rejects his false gods and false religions and self righteousness

  502. and surrenders to Christ's Lordship, he cannot be saved.

  503. And it's such a huge thing. We see this happening so often

  504. and especially in countries where they have a lot of gods.

  505. India is a great example of this.

  506. They have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of gods in India.

  507. And many times what happens is things aren't going so great for

  508. me. Oh, you're introducing Christ.

  509. Well, I'll try him. I'll see if I'll see if he

  510. works. And if I can see miracles, if I

  511. can see blessings, if I can see God do something for me, then

  512. certainly I'll believe in Jesus, right?

  513. He's just another God. That's not salvation.

  514. And, and it's, it's difficult in many cases dealing with somebody

  515. who has that mindset because they got saved and their life

  516. was, was turned around because they came to Christ and oh, they

  517. had this great testimony of understanding who Christ is and

  518. all of these other things. And in some cases it is genuine,

  519. but in a lot of cases it takes years of working with somebody

  520. and helping them come to that understanding that it's not just

  521. another God that you're trying out to see how He'll do for you.

  522. It's all of Him and none of anything else.

  523. Or it's not salvation. If you are counting on anything

  524. else besides Christ, then it's not salvation.

  525. So. This is important.

  526. Then we understand what salvation is, not we understand

  527. what salvation is. We've looked at a couple Bible

  528. examples of salvation. So how do we use that in so

  529. many? Well, there's three things here,

  530. and the first is that we must not skip over it.

  531. We must tell the people that God.

  532. Requires it and we must explain what it is and this is where it

  533. gets so this 123 pray after me. I don't I don't like to call it

  534. easy believism because it's not hard to believe in Christ.

  535. It's quick prayerism. If I can get you almost, almost

  536. like you're trying to sneak it past somebody, almost like

  537. you're trying to you know, we I worked as a.

  538. I did construction for for several years in college and I

  539. tore my knee up playing soccer and I couldn't climb the ladders

  540. and everything else. So I had to, I had to switch and

  541. do something else. For two weeks.

  542. I worked at a call center and I started day one and I put my two

  543. weeks in and I worked two weeks and that was it.

  544. I couldn't handle it sitting there.

  545. But they train you how to how to try to get people to just say

  546. yes. Right.

  547. If they can just say yes, then you can mark it down and that

  548. counts as another one for you. And you send them the stuff and

  549. you go on to the next call. It's almost like you're trying

  550. to sneak it past somebody just to get them to say yes so that

  551. you can send them the credit card offer or you can add this

  552. thing to their credit card or whatever it happens to be that

  553. you're trying to sell. And that's the way a lot of

  554. salesman work. If you can just get somebody to

  555. say yes. If they say yes once, they'll

  556. probably say yes again. And if they say yes twice, then

  557. definitely they're going to say yes the third time.

  558. Many times they just want to get you off of their porch.

  559. But if you can just get them to say yes.

  560. And that's what a lot of people are doing when it comes to to,

  561. to knocking on doors. And I mean, maybe 1520, thirty

  562. years ago, it was easier to, to lead somebody to Christ on their

  563. porch because people had a knowledge of the Bible and they

  564. had a moral understanding and they knew who Jesus was.

  565. And they had been to Sunday school and they had been to VBSS

  566. and they've been through all of those things.

  567. People have no idea today. They don't know anything about

  568. the Bible. And for you to show up on their

  569. porch and 5 or 10 minutes later you've LED them to Christ,

  570. that's a very, very, very dangerous thing.

  571. And I'm not saying that somebody couldn't be ready to accept

  572. Christ as their Savior. It it can happen, but you know,

  573. I hear about these churches that go out knocking on doors and

  574. praise the Lord, we had seven people saved outdoor knocking

  575. today. That's a very, very dangerous

  576. thing. Most of those people you

  577. probably gave a false assurance to because they just wanted to

  578. get you off of their porch and they just realized that all they

  579. had to do was say yes and you will leave.

  580. It's it's, it's something that we have to be so careful about.

  581. This is a, this is an example that brother Cloud used.

  582. Obviously is is his his course here, but he said one afternoon

  583. I accompanied a pastor to knock doors in a part of the city that

  584. was populated with university students.

  585. A few times in one afternoon. He shared a 5 minute Romans Rd.

  586. plan. IE all have sinned against God.

  587. The wages of sin is death. Jesus died for our sins and

  588. those who believe can be saved. And then immediately asked three

  589. questions. Does that make sense to you?

  590. All of them said it made sense. Do you have any questions?

  591. None of them did because they didn't appear the least bit

  592. interested, not interested enough even to invite us into

  593. the home. And the third question, Would

  594. you pray to receive Christ right now?

  595. None of them did, which I'm surprised that because most of

  596. them do they just whatever I got to say to get you off my porch.

  597. Not only was the program quick, to say the least, the pastor

  598. didn't even hint to the people that there would need to be a

  599. change in the direction of their life, a turning or a surrender.

  600. I've heard of this this. I've actually seen this happen

  601. before too. This is another example.

  602. An independent Baptist Church in Maine conducted a door to door

  603. campaign a few years ago in which the people were taught to

  604. say if. I were to tell you today.

  605. Say that you can be saved and go to heaven and you won't have to

  606. change anything. Would you be interested?

  607. And that's what I'm saying, that a lot of this is just trying to

  608. sneak it past somebody to get them to say yes.

  609. Why would you even want to do that?

  610. Why would you even want to try to sneak it past somebody and

  611. and, and get them saved without them even realizing what they're

  612. doing? Do you really think that that's

  613. the gospel? Do you really think that that's

  614. salvation? What if I could?

  615. What if I told you you could go to heaven and you don't have to

  616. change your life? That's what a change from

  617. unbelief to belief gets you. Do you believe in heaven?

  618. Well, yeah. Do you believe the Bible?

  619. Yeah. Do you believe in Jesus?

  620. Yeah. Do you believe that he died and

  621. rose again? Yeah.

  622. All right. Pray this prayer.

  623. You're on your way to heaven. It's just a change from unbelief

  624. to belief. And now you can go live your

  625. life the way that you want to. Nothing has to change.

  626. There is no repentance in that, and that's why we say that

  627. repentance is necessary for salvation.

  628. They've got to understand that there will be a change in their

  629. life and there should be a change in their life.

  630. Many gospel tracts don't contain a hint of repentance.

  631. This is not scriptural sewing. If Christ and the apostles

  632. preach repentance, then we must preach repentance.

  633. We need to explain that the individual must be ready to

  634. surrender to God and to give him the false impression that it's

  635. possible to be saved. And not to give him the

  636. impression that it's possible to be saved without it, because

  637. it's not possible to be saved without it.

  638. There must be repentance in order to be saved.

  639. And I think you know this, this next, of course, we will also

  640. explain that God will do the changing.

  641. Repentance is not reformation or turning over a new leaf, but the

  642. Sinner must be ready to accept God's working.

  643. He must surrender. And I think that's where so

  644. often we have it, it happened where there's, there's people

  645. that are, that are filling our churches that think they're

  646. saved because somewhere along the lines, they, they prayed

  647. that prayer too. And they repeated what somebody

  648. told them to say. And they, they got assurance of

  649. their salvation. And, and 5 minutes later, this

  650. guy's telling him, don't ever doubt that you're on your way to

  651. heaven. You just got saved.

  652. And if anybody ever questions you, you can tell him this is

  653. the day you accepted Christ. No, no mention of repentance at

  654. all. And many times what happens is

  655. that they, they, they try to put the sanctification in front of

  656. the justification. And I've mentioned that quite a

  657. few times because that's exactly what happens.

  658. You start going and doing Christian things.

  659. You start acting the way a Christian acts, you get involved

  660. in church, you learn what the right things are to do, and you

  661. learn what the right things are to say.

  662. But there's never been justification.

  663. You skipped completely over that process and went straight to the

  664. sanctification part. And that's why you're still

  665. struggling with sanctification. You can't live holy before God

  666. if you've never been justified by Him.

  667. And if you didn't have repentance, then there was no

  668. justification. It's not just, I believe, Dunk

  669. me in the water. It's not just that.

  670. It's repentance and faith. Both of those go hand in hand.

  671. If the individual is not ready to surrender, he's not ready to

  672. be saved. And the problem with that for

  673. most people is that they lose out on a number.

  674. Man, I missed one that that was one that I really should have

  675. gotten. And I could have told people

  676. that we had this many people saved, but missed him.

  677. No, it's if he's not ready to surrender, he's not ready to be

  678. saved. And if he's not ready to be

  679. saved, then you better not push him into salvation.

  680. It's a decision. And we say this all the time

  681. and, and even those people would say that you have to make this

  682. decision for yourself. I can't make that decision for

  683. you. But don't you want to pray after

  684. me? Don't you want to repeat this

  685. prayer so you can go to heaven? You're making the decision for

  686. them. It's not a change of direction.

  687. It's not a, it's not a surrender to God.

  688. It's pray this prayer after me. Let me help you make this

  689. decision so you don't have to do it.

  690. All right, it's, it's, it's, it's not repentance and it's not

  691. salvation, he says. I've dealt with hundreds of

  692. people who came to the place of understanding and believing that

  693. Christ died for their sins and that faith in Christ is the only

  694. way of salvation. But they were simply not ready

  695. to surrender to God. They refused to repent.

  696. And I think this is a great example.

  697. He gave 2 examples. The second one is the one that I

  698. want to focus on. He says one of my wife and I

  699. first began our missionary work in South Asia in 1979.

  700. Our landlord began coming to our house to have Bible studies.

  701. He was a wealthy, middle-aged Hindu.

  702. And had a. Concubine, with whom he spent

  703. most of his time, though he was married and had grown children.

  704. After we went through the gospel a few times, he told me he felt

  705. that he understood what I was teaching and he believe that

  706. Jesus died for his sins and then he was interested in receiving

  707. Christ. But he wanted to know what he

  708. would have to do about two specific things in his life, his

  709. shady business practices and his illicit relationship with the

  710. concubine. He's the one who brought these

  711. things to my attention. I could have said, don't worry

  712. about that, just pray to receive Christ and those things will

  713. work themselves out later. That's the method I was taught

  714. in Bible school. But I don't.

  715. Believe it would have been Scriptural Council.

  716. I don't believe he could receive Christ and be saved unless he

  717. repented of his immorality and his dishonesty.

  718. Salvation requires surrendering. I explained to him that if he

  719. would turn to Christ, God would change his life and he would

  720. have different desires. But he didn't want that.

  721. He was entirely unwilling to surrender to God as God.

  722. The power to change one's life is from God, but the Sinner must

  723. surrender to God's working. After I told him this, he never

  724. returned for a Bible study. That's somebody that's looking

  725. for the cherry on top of the ice cream, not somebody who's

  726. looking to change the ice cream flavor.

  727. Right. And and that's what so many

  728. people are looking at. At, at, at salvation, you know,

  729. and, and This is why I say this, this we're in a very dangerous

  730. spot in this ecumenical age that we live in, because as long as

  731. you're conservative and as long as you have decent.

  732. Morals. Then the only thing you need to

  733. do to to add to that is to just accept Christ.

  734. Just just believe in God, go to church a few times, get

  735. baptized, and then keep living your good conservative moral

  736. lifestyle and everything will be fine.

  737. You're going to heaven. And that's not that's not true

  738. that that's a works based salvation.

  739. Repentance is not a works based salvation.

  740. There ought to be a change in your life.

  741. We don't, we don't, we don't repent in order.

  742. I mean, we don't, we don't stop sinning in order to be saved.

  743. But there should be a desire to stop sinning because you are

  744. saved. Think about Christ with the

  745. woman at the well in John chapter 4, and I'm not going to

    John 4 chapter mention

  746. take the time to turn over there, but he very plainly told

  747. this woman what her problem was. He could have said, hey, I'm

  748. Jesus, I'm the Messiah, I can give you everlasting life,

  749. believe in me. Oh, but what did he do?

  750. He basically said you're a wicked Sinner.

  751. You had five husbands and the one you're living with right now

  752. is not even your husband, right? He could have been very, I mean,

  753. I'm not saying he probably was very kind to her in the way that

  754. he said it, or maybe she wouldn't have it, wouldn't have

  755. believed him, you know, wouldn't have accepted it.

  756. But he was very point blank with her about her.

  757. What her sin, her sin, her immorality, but it's sin, right?

  758. He was very point blank about that.

  759. And that's what caused her to change her life.

  760. He called her out on her sin. And that's what most people are

  761. not willing to do. Same thing with the rich young

  762. ruler. He faced this rich young ruler

  763. with his sin of self righteousness and his sin of

  764. covetousness. That's the way that God deals

  765. with his people. He reproves them for their sin

  766. in order to bring them to repentance.

  767. Let's turn over to John 16. John, Chapter 16.

    John 16 chapter mention

  768. We only have a the actually the rest of this page left and we'll

  769. be finished. But it's so important that we

  770. understand this idea of repentance.

  771. John chapter 16 and verse #8. Let's go back actually to verse

    John 16 chapter mention

  772. 7. Nevertheless, I tell you the

  773. truth. It is expedient for you that I

  774. go away. For if I go not away, the

  775. comforter will not come unto you.

  776. But if I depart, I will send him unto you.

  777. And when he has come, he will reprove the world of sin and of

  778. righteousness and of judgment. That is a conviction.

  779. That's a conviction that comes from the Holy Spirit.

  780. And that's the way that we have to deal with people if we want

  781. to follow the Bible in our gospel work to, to to bring

  782. repentance and to preach repentance in the gospel

  783. presentation is to deal with glaring sins that people are

  784. holding on to and tell them very plainly that they have to repent

  785. of that sin against God. Doesn't mean that you have to

  786. stop sinning. Because I know there's some

  787. things that are addictions and some things that are, are things

  788. that people have been holding on to for a long time and they

  789. don't know anything different. But there ought to be a desire

  790. to stop those things. And God will help you through

  791. those things, right? God will give you the power to

  792. defeat the sins that you were dealing with in your life.

  793. But they have to yield their lives to him.

  794. They have to change the directions.

  795. They must surrender. God will do a great work in

  796. their life. But they have to be ready for

  797. that to happen. They have to have a change of

  798. mind about God. They have to have a change of

  799. mind about sin and that'll result in a change of in their

  800. life. Luke chapter 13 and this you

    Luke 13 chapter mention

  801. want to say that there's there's a lot of so winning programs out

  802. there who were just trying to slip the gospel by somebody, get

  803. him saved for he really knows what's happening.

  804. That is not even possible. You might get them to ascent

  805. mentally, right. You might get them to agree

  806. mentally. That they're going to accept

  807. Christ. You might get them to agree to

  808. pray a prayer after you and you might genuinely think, boy, I

  809. think he got it. He prayed he was he was ready to

  810. be saved. Look at that.

  811. I only took 5 minutes and he was ready to be saved, right.

  812. But many times what's happening, the Lord said Luke chapter 13, I

    Luke 13 chapter mention

  813. tell your nay, but accept you repent.

  814. You shall all likewise perish. It really, it really is scary to

  815. me how many people there are sitting in churches who think

  816. they're saved that are not because somebody LED them in a

  817. quick prayer and there was never any repentance that was part of

  818. their salvation. You know, I took part in this

  819. film that Spencer Smith did disclosure.

  820. And one of the main things about this disclosure is disclosing

  821. the quick prayer is an idea. And I think what's happened in

  822. so many of our churches. And This is why This is why you

  823. can have a pastor who will, you know, be having an affair or,

  824. or, or being, you know, doing some things that are just just

  825. gross and whatever else and still get up in the pulpit and

  826. preach and don't say anything about this or, or you're going

  827. to, you're going to cause the whole ministry to shut down and

  828. everything else. The reason why that's that

  829. happens, I believe, is because the the pastors of most of those

  830. churches are not even saved. Just because you claim to be an

  831. independent Baptist and you wear a suit and you carry the right

  832. Bible does not make you a Christian.

  833. But we think that. Well, I'm in a good church and I

  834. carry my Bible and I wear a suit to church.

  835. All right, So do the Mormons. They think they're right, right?

  836. They think their Bible is the right one.

  837. They wear a suit to church. They're more dedicated than most

  838. independent Baptists are. They're not saved just because

  839. they do those things, right? Well, we got the truth though.

  840. Do we? Do you?

  841. We have the truth. We have it in God's Word.

  842. But I wonder how many people are sitting in churches that were

  843. led to Christ by a pastor who wasn't even saved because

  844. somebody led him to Christ who wasn't even saved.

  845. And now there's thousands of people sitting in churches

  846. across the country who never got saved.

  847. They, they, they mentally assented to it and they went and

  848. got baptized and everything else, but they never repented.

  849. There was never a change or if it.

  850. Was it was putting all the sanctification things in front

  851. of the justification? It's, it's so important that we

  852. make sure I don't care how many people we have saved.

  853. I obviously I want as many people to get saved as possible,

  854. but not at the expense of them. Just praying a prayer so that we

  855. can count them as a number. We're looking for genuine

  856. salvations and those are few and far between because most people

  857. are not willing to repent. Most people are not willing to

  858. change. They just want to put Christ on

  859. top of their life like it's some kind of cherry on top of the ice

  860. cream. I got a great job, we got a

  861. beautiful wife. I got, you know, 2.5 kids.

  862. I've got, you know, two cars and you know everything.

  863. My life is great. The only thing you're missing is

  864. Christ. No, you have Christ and He has

  865. you or you have nothing is not just the cherry on top of the

  866. ice cream. He is everything and repentance

  867. is absolutely necessary for that to happen.

  868. So for some, some ways that we use repentance and so winning.

  869. First of all, we must not skip over it.

  870. The next two are quick. It's not necessarily the word

  871. repentance that always has to be used.

  872. It's the concept that a soul winner has to get across.

  873. We have to make the individual understand that God requires

  874. surrender. And I'm not saying that you've

  875. got to jump through 50 hoops in order to get saved, right?

  876. You don't have to. You don't have to bend over

  877. backwards and do all these mental gymnastics and everything

  878. else that come to repentance, but it absolutely has to be part

  879. of the gospel presentation you. Are a Sinner and if if you had

  880. never sinned, Christ would never had to die and you cannot

  881. continue to live in that sin the way that you are and expect that

  882. you're going to get that that you're going to be saved.

  883. You have to be willing to surrender all of that sin to

  884. Christ. It's not a hard concept, but

  885. it's hard to tell people that because they don't like to hear

  886. it. And that's where they say well,

  887. I can't stop doing this. This is you're telling me that I

  888. have to yes, well then I don't want that.

  889. Oh, and that's a number that you can't count, and it doesn't go

  890. toward all the hundreds and thousands of people that you're

  891. seeing getting saved every year. So we just won't mention that.

  892. And you've got 100 or 1000 people that you are sending to

  893. hell because you're focusing only on belief and not on

  894. repentance and belief. So the third thing is that we

  895. need to deal with each case individually.

  896. And I think this is important. We have a couple examples in the

  897. Bible. Preaching repentance depends on

  898. the context and we see that. From the fact that the Bible

  899. sometimes mentions repentance and sometimes it doesn't, right.

  900. We have we have examples of that in the Bible and the Philippian

  901. jailer, I think is a is a perfect example.

  902. Look, here's a perfect example. You don't need repentance.

  903. He says, sirs, what must I do to be saved?

  904. And they said believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt

  905. be saved. And he believed that he got

  906. saved. There was no repentance in

  907. there. Hang on a second, though.

  908. Doubtless, Paul and Silas had been witnessing to him.

  909. We know that they've been singing and praising God.

  910. Further, the power of God displayed in the earthquake had

  911. shaken the jailer deeply. Now, through the spirits

  912. working, he was ready to do whatever God told him to do.

  913. In such a case, there is no need to go into a lengthy study about

  914. repentance. He was already repenting.

  915. I too have met men in jails and other places that were ready to

  916. be saved. They had heard the gospel and

  917. God was working in their hearts. They knew that they were sinners

  918. and they were sorry for that sin against God.

  919. They were tired of the old life. They were ready to surrender to

  920. Him. In that context, all that is

  921. needed is to explain to the individual how.

  922. To put his, his or her faith in Christ in a saving manner.

  923. Somebody who has broken over their sin and wants to come to

  924. Christ is already repenting. So why doesn't why is not the

  925. why is no repentance mentioned to the Philippian jailer?

  926. He was already repenting. He was broken already.

  927. He was on his knees, Sir, what must I do to be saved right?

  928. That's he was already there. And the other one is the example

  929. of the idolaters in Athens. This is the exact opposite of

  930. that right? Acts chapter 17, verse 30.

    Acts 17:30

  931. Paul preached to the idolaters at Athens who were treating the

  932. gospel as just another philosophical debate.

  933. But he told them that God now commandeth all men everywhere to

  934. repent. He didn't say just believe in

  935. Jesus, right? He could have done that.

  936. Hey, Jesus is God. OK?

  937. You believe that? Yeah.

  938. OK, well pray this prayer after me and you'll be saved, right?

  939. No, their mindset was totally different.

  940. They were not broken over their sin.

  941. They were just having a philosophical debate about

  942. another God. Hey, this is to the unknown God.

  943. We don't know who he is, but whoever he is, we want to make

  944. sure that we give mental assent to him too.

  945. And Paul said God's commanding everywhere that all men repent.

  946. He had to bring it up because they were not repenting.

  947. And and it's a great point. He could have very easily said,

  948. well, just believe in Jesus. This is this is the one that

  949. you're missing. It's God Jesus, right?

  950. Do you believe in him? Oh, yeah, sure we do.

  951. They would have all been saved. But it's not, it's not

  952. salvation. He didn't say just believe in

  953. Jesus. They needed to repent of their

  954. false gods and particularly of their chief God, which was

  955. themselves. They needed to be confronted

  956. with Almighty God. And.

  957. His claim on their life SO22 examples one.

  958. Where repentance was not necessary to be mentioned

  959. because he was already repenting, he was already

  960. broken. Before them about his sin.

  961. But then the other ones, repentance had to be mentioned

  962. because they had no, they had no intention of turning away from

  963. their sin and turning to God. So repentance and faith.

  964. And now we're going to talk about faith in the next lesson.

  965. And you'll see hopefully how these two things go hand in

  966. hand. But repentance is absolutely

  967. necessary for salvation. It's not just the change from

  968. unbelief to belief. It's not just mentally assenting

  969. that Jesus died on the cross. Listen, does the Bible says in

  970. in Matthew Chapter 7, straight is the gate and narrow is the

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  971. way that leadeth into life and few there be that find it.

  972. How many people do you think in the United States right now

  973. believe the story of the crucifixion and the

  974. resurrection? A lot, right?

  975. I know the number of atheists is going up, but how many

  976. percentage wise 7580% of people believe the story of the

  977. resurrection, that Jesus died on the cross because to pay for our

  978. sins and then he rose again from the dead, right?

  979. There's, there's a huge number of people in America that

  980. believe that. Are all of them going to heaven?

  981. Because they believe they have faith, right?

  982. Doubt it. They live like the devil.

  983. And obviously you can backslide and you can get away from God

  984. and everything else. And it's not.

  985. It's not based on your works, but there ought to be works meet

  986. for repentance. There ought to be.

  987. A change in your life, there ought to be something different

  988. about you, and if there is no change, then very likely there

  989. is no repentance. If there's no repentance, there

  990. is no salvation. It's important, it's very, very

  991. important that we bring this up when we, when we give the gospel

  992. to somebody. And there's, there's ways and,

  993. and we'll talk about this when we get into the next lesson as

  994. well. But there's ways to, to explain

  995. that to somebody to help them understand, right?

  996. You take, I'll give you an example that you can use that,

  997. that that might be helpful in explaining to somebody about

  998. their sinful condition, right? You can, you can take a, a

  999. really crooked tree, right? Let's take a let's take a tree

1000. that is, you know, wide in circumference, right?

1001. And it's, it's, it's got a big crook in it on its way up.

1002. And you can take that tree and you can cut the whole center out

1003. of that tree and get a nice straight piece of wood, can't

1004. you? But if you actually look at the

1005. heart of that piece of wood, it's very crooked.

1006. And is it eventually what happens when that thing dries

1007. out, it's going to go right back to crooked.

1008. You can, you can make it straight.

1009. You can put it on a mill and you can cut it, but because the

1010. heart of that thing is crooked, it's always going to have that

1011. natural bent toward that crookedness, if you will.

1012. And, and that's exactly what it is, right?

1013. Somebody can reform, somebody can believe, somebody can get in

1014. church, somebody can change their life and do things

1015. differently than what they're doing right now.

1016. But that's just reformation. That's that's cutting the center

1017. out of that tree and making it look straight.

1018. It actually needs to be made straight.

1019. And the only thing that can do that is a miracle.

1020. And that's through the blood of Christ, right?

1021. And it's a it's a miracle that what he does for us when he

1022. saves us, that justification is a miracle.

1023. Justification. Just as if I'd never sinned,

1024. right? That's an easy way to remember

1025. what justified is. Just as if I'd never sinned.

1026. When God looks at me, he doesn't see all my sin.

1027. He only sees the blood of Jesus Christ covering that sin, right?

1028. And when God looks at me, it's just as if I'd never sinned.

  1029. Doesn't mean that I'm sinless, Doesn't mean that I've never

1030. sinned. It's just that when God looks at

1031. me, that's what he sees. He sees only the blood of Jesus

1032. Christ covering those sins. And it's, it's important that we

1033. have that repentance as part of that, as part of salvation.

1034. So faith, is it necessary? Absolutely.

1035. Repentance, is it necessary? Absolutely.

1036. And that's why Paul mentioned that in Acts chapter 20 and

    Acts 20 chapter mention

1037. verse 21. Repentance toward God and faith

1038. toward our Lord Jesus Christ, both of them are necessary for

  1039. salvation. Hope that's helped.

1040. Let's pray. Father, again, we thank you so

1041. much. For your goodness to us, we

1042. thank you for. Your word and God, I pray that

1043. we would be able to see genuine conversions.

1044. I pray that we'd be able to see people genuinely come to know

1045. Jesus Christ as their savior. God, may you help us to not only

1046. be bold and witnessing and sharing the gospel, but bold and

1047. preaching repentance the way that Peter and Paul and and and

1048. Jesus and so many other people did in the New Testament.

1049. God, I pray that you'd help us to be very careful about this

1050. and make sure that we're leading people in the right direction,

1051. leading them down the narrow way instead of just allowing them to

1052. walk the Broadway and count them as a number.

1053. And God, may you help us to be the soul owners that you want us

1054. to be, the witnesses that you want us to be.

1055. But may you help us to be careful in the way that we do

1056. it. And again, we thank you so much

1057. for all that you do for us. In Jesus name, Amen.

1058. We have a quick invitation. I don't know if God spoke to

1059. your heart, but go ahead and stand with me to your seats and

1060. as the panel plays, if God spoke to your heart, maybe, maybe God

1061. laid somebody on your heart. I don't know.

1062. I'm going to give you an opportunity to respond.
