  1. This summer we've been preaching through the Psalms, and today we're ready for Psalm 12.

  2. It's another Psalm of David, according to the Shimoneth.

  3. It's a Messianic Psalm, looking forward to God's vengeance one great day.

  4. Psalm 12.

  5. As I read this, we do so trusting that God's Word is inspired, it is inerrant, it's infallible,

  6. it's clear, and it's sufficient for His people.

  7. After I'm done reading, I'll say this is the Word of the Lord.

  8. You can say thanks be to God.

  9. Psalm 12.

  10. Help, Lord, for no faithful one remains.

  11. The loyal have disappeared from the human race.

  12. They lie to one another, they speak with flattering lips and deceptive hearts.

  13. May the Lord cut off all flattering lips and the tongue that speaks boastfully.

  14. They say through our tongues we have power.

  15. Our lips are our own.

  16. Who can be our master?

  17. Because of the devastation of the needy and the groaning of the poor,

  18. I will now rise up, says the Lord.

  19. I will provide safety for the one who longs for it.

  20. The words of the Lord are pure words,

  21. like refined silver in an earthen furnace,

  22. purified seven times.

  23. Verse 7.

  24. You, Lord, will guard us.

  25. You will protect us from this generation forever.

  26. The wicked prowl all around,

  27. and what is worthless is exalted by the human race.

  28. This is the word of the Lord.

  29. Thanks be to God.

  30. You may be seated.

  31. Pray.

  32. Pray.

  33. Lord, your word is purified like silver seven times through the furnace.

  34. There's no impurity, no imperfections in your word.

  35. Lord, we pray, Lord, by the power of your Holy Spirit,

  36. you will minister your word to your people today,

  37. for our good and for your glory.

  38. Amen.

  39. Beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ,

  40. I want to talk with you today

  41. about what the walk of faith is like.

  42. I think Psalm 12 shows us the walk of faith

  43. is not what many would hope or expect.

  44. So what is the walk of faith like?

  45. I want to share with you a story.

  46. It's a true story that I heard just this week

  47. from a little missionary book.

  48. Take place in Egypt,

  49. and the main character's name is Ramsey.

  50. Ramsey wore the federal Egyptian uniform,

  51. and he held a respected position

  52. within the National Postal Service.

  53. If you wanted to mail something into Egypt,

  54. it will go through Ramsey's office.

  55. Ramsey dreamed of owning a car himself one day,

  56. and part of his culture was acceptable

  57. to use some of the perks of your high position.

  58. So when packages would come through,

  59. he would shake them,

  60. and he'd try to see what's inside the package.

  61. Many times he would open them

  62. and help himself to whatever it was

  63. that was intended for someone else.

  64. Culturally, Ramsey was Muslim,

  65. lying, stealing.

  66. These were normal parts of society.

  67. To not do it would be weird and accepted.

  68. It was a normal part of his walk

  69. to steal and to lie about it.

  70. This culture in which Ramsey lives

  71. could be described in these words from Psalm 12.

  72. Everyone lies to his neighbor, verse 2.

  73. They say,

  74. Who is Lord over us?

  75. Verse 4.

  76. Well, this one particular parcel

  77. was intended for a Christian

  78. who worked as a school teacher.

  79. Ramsey shook it.

  80. He thought there were some stacks of cash inside.

  81. That's what it felt like.

  82. So he opened it up,

  83. and he was disappointed

  84. because it was a New Testament.

  85. It was the Bible.

  86. Well, there's that Christian

  87. living in this Muslim country

  88. full of corruption

  89. that never received his package,

  90. never got the pure word of God.

  91. And it felt to that Christian teacher

  92. that wickedness is all around.

  93. The wicked walk on every side,

  94. and what is vile is exalted.

  95. Verse 8.

  96. Those verses describe

  97. Denver Metro, Colorado, USA,

  98. just as much as Muslim Egypt.

  99. Everyone seems to lie to their neighbor.

  100. Everyone's attitude seems to be,

  101. who is Lord over me.

  102. The wicked walk on every side

  103. of every Christian, it feels.

  104. And vileness is exalted in the land.

  105. So what is the walk of faith like

  106. for you and for me?

  107. First observation from Psalm 12

  108. is that your walk of faith,

  109. it will be filled with lament.

  110. You want to walk following Christ,

  111. this walk of faith?

  112. You should expect it to be filled

  113. with lament.

  114. Lament is to grieve,

  115. to weep,

  116. to bewail,

  117. to mourn,

  118. to express sorrow

  119. with cries from your soul.

  120. It's to cast up

  121. pain-induced complaints

  122. toward God.

  123. Have you lamented recently?

  124. I looked up how many psalms of lament

  125. are there?

  126. There are 42 psalms of lament.

  127. Well, you know how many psalms

  128. there are total,

  129. 150.

  130. 42 out of 150,

  131. that's about one-third

  132. of the psalms

  133. are giving followers of God,

  134. believers,

  135. ways to pray through lament.

  136. If,

  137. to the extent of the psalms

  138. are the prayer book

  139. and the song book

  140. of God's people,

  141. which they are,

  142. that's about one-third

  143. of the emotions

  144. we will feel

  145. in the Christian life.

  146. It's common

  147. for it to be lament.

  148. It's that common.

  149. Well, what is it

  150. that the psalmist laments?

  151. Three things I see here.

  152. In verse 1,

  153. he laments

  154. the feeling of loneliness.

  155. To walk as a believer

  156. feels very lonely

  157. many times,

  158. doesn't it?

  159. He's praying,

  160. Lord,

  161. only you can save me.

  162. I'm all alone.

  163. In verse 1,

  164. he says,

  165. Help, Lord.

  166. Save,

  167. for no one is faithful anymore.

  168. Those of faith

  169. have all vanished

  170. from mankind.

  171. He laments

  172. the feeling of loneliness.

  173. Number two,

  174. he laments

  175. that it's not just

  176. the words

  177. of the people

  178. all around him.

  179. It's their hearts.

  180. He says,

  181. Lord,

  182. everyone's speech

  183. and hearts

  184. seem evil

  185. all the time.

  186. Verse 2,

  187. Everyone lies

  188. to his neighbor

  189. and they speak

  190. with flattering lips

  191. and a double heart.

  192. To flatter

  193. is to confirm

  194. your good opinion

  195. to yourself.

  196. It's to tell someone

  197. what you know

  198. they want to hear,

  199. to praise and exalt them

  200. in their own estimation.

  201. And it's always

  202. for malicious

  203. and tense.

  204. That's the double heart

  205. behind flattery.

  206. Proverbs 29.5

  207. says,

  208. A man

  209. that flatters

  210. his neighbor

  211. spreads a net

  212. for their feet.

  213. Don't fall for it.

  214. And the truth is

  215. that if God

  216. were not pleased

  217. to dwell inside

  218. of you and me

  219. by grace,

  220. our hearts

  221. are prone

  222. toward evil.

  223. We're prone

  224. to deceive

  225. and to want

  226. to be greedy

  227. and envious

  228. and then use

  229. our tongues

  230. to get that.

  231. That's the bent

  232. of every one

  233. of our hearts

  234. as well.

  235. And it's lamentable.

  236. It's lamentable

  237. when we feel it

  238. and experience it

  239. and suffer it

  240. from another

  241. and when I see

  242. that bent

  243. in my own heart,

  244. I want to lament

  245. it all,

  246. don't you?

  247. The third thing

  248. he's lamenting

  249. in this psalm

  250. in verse 4

  251. is that this evil

  252. is directly

  253. toward God.

  254. He says,

  255. Lord,

  256. they boast against you.

  257. Don't you see it?

  258. In verse 4,

  259. they have said,

  260. with our tongues

  261. we will prevail.

  262. Our lips

  263. are our own.

  264. Who is Lord

  265. over us?

  266. They have no thought

  267. for God.

  268. God.

  269. Why would the Lord

  270. allow Christians

  271. or followers of God

  272. in any generation

  273. to experience

  274. so much sadness

  275. and so much lament

  276. as we walk

  277. this life on earth?

  278. Getting to know you

  279. and the hardest times

  280. you've been through

  281. in your life,

  282. you've also shared

  283. those times

  284. of deepest lament

  285. have been the times

  286. when God taught me

  287. the most to pray.

  288. Isn't that your testimony?

  289. Lament,

  290. sadness in my heart,

  291. it puts me down

  292. on my knees

  293. in prayer.

  294. It's not the fun way

  295. to learn it,

  296. but God makes

  297. his people

  298. depend on him.

  299. He makes us

  300. cry out

  301. and pray.

  302. Lament

  303. drives

  304. prayer.

  305. Even though

  306. we're justified

  307. by our own flesh,

  308. we would not

  309. turn to God

  310. in prayer

  311. so often

  312. unless he made us

  313. feel that lament

  314. so deeply.

  315. It's gracious.

  316. John Bunyan

  317. felt this.

  318. He said,

  319. the truths

  320. that I know best

  321. I have learned

  322. on my knees.

  323. I never know

  324. a thing well

  325. till it is burned

  326. into my heart

  327. by prayer.

  328. prayer.

  329. So what's

  330. the walk of faith

  331. like?

  332. The walk of faith

  333. will be filled

  334. with lament.

  335. But that lament

  336. drives us

  337. to pray.

  338. Amen?

  339. The second way

  340. we can answer

  341. that question

  342. is this.

  343. while the walk

  344. of faith

  345. is hard

  346. and sad

  347. it will feel

  348. like lament

  349. maybe a third

  350. of the time

  351. the Lord

  352. will continue

  353. to fuel

  354. your walk

  355. of faith

  356. by his word.

  357. This is one

  358. of the promises

  359. in Psalm 12.

  360. It will be hard

  361. but the Lord

  362. will fuel

  363. your walk

  364. of faith.

  365. He will feed

  366. energize

  367. and increase

  368. your faith

  369. as you walk

  370. with him

  371. and he will do

  372. that by his word.

  373. The word of God

  374. is trustworthy.

  375. This is the witness

  376. David is bearing.

  377. He's saying

  378. I've tested it

  379. it's true

  380. hear my witness

  381. believers.

  382. The word of God

  383. you can trust.

  384. God will not

  385. deceive you.

  386. Do you see the contrast?

  387. See the problem

  388. in this Psalm

  389. that's getting to David

  390. is the deceitfulness

  391. of man.

  392. It's their tongues

  393. their lips

  394. their words.

  395. That's the problem.

  396. Look at the contrast

  397. in verse 6.

  398. Yahweh's words

  399. are flawless

  400. words.

  401. Yahweh's words

  402. are refined

  403. like silver

  404. in a clay furnace

  405. seven times over.

  406. You can trust

  407. the word of God.

  408. To purify silver

  409. you would take

  410. you would take

  411. that chunk

  412. that mineral

  413. you would slide

  414. it into a furnace

  415. these clay furnaces

  416. on the ground

  417. would get

  418. extremely hot

  419. so that it would

  420. melt

  421. and the dirt

  422. would separate

  423. from the fine metal

  424. and then you would

  425. pull it out

  426. let it cool

  427. remove the dirt

  428. and do it a second time

  429. removing more impurities.

  430. It would not take

  431. seven times

  432. till you had pure silver.

  433. Seven is the number

  434. of completion.

  435. We know this.

  436. So to say

  437. the word of God

  438. is that trustworthy

  439. there is nothing

  440. impure

  441. in what God

  442. has given his people.

  443. His word

  444. is purified

  445. and it's precious.

  446. You can trust

  447. God's word.

  448. We not only

  449. read God's word

  450. we must meditate

  451. we must let it

  452. be our fuel

  453. we must take it in

  454. so that it can

  455. energize

  456. and sustain

  457. and increase

  458. our faith.

  459. Thomas Brooks

  460. one of the Puritans

  461. he wrote this

  462. remember that it is

  463. not hasty reading

  464. of God's word

  465. but serious

  466. meditation

  467. on holy

  468. and heavenly

  469. truths

  470. that makes them

  471. prove sweet

  472. and profitable

  473. to the soul.

  474. It is not

  475. the mere touching

  476. of the flower

  477. by the bee

  478. that gathers honey

  479. but her abiding

  480. for a time

  481. on the flower

  482. that draws out

  483. the sweet.

  484. Stay with God's word

  485. meditate upon

  486. God's word

  487. receive his

  488. heavenly truth

  489. as that sweetness

  490. as you take it in

  491. soak it up

  492. let it be your fuel

  493. to walk with him.

  494. Well not only

  495. is God's word

  496. trustworthy

  497. he also fuels you

  498. through his word

  499. because his word

  500. is extremely personal

  501. in his word

  502. he gives you himself.

  503. Notice this

  504. in verse 5

  505. because of the

  506. oppression

  507. of the weak

  508. and because of

  509. the groaning

  510. of the needy

  511. I will now

  512. arise

  513. says the Lord

  514. I will set him

  515. in safety

  516. from those who

  517. malign

  518. or puff

  519. at him.

  520. The Lord's word

  521. is personal

  522. he pledges

  523. himself

  524. he personally

  525. hears your cry

  526. and he personally

  527. rises up

  528. to come to save.

  529. That's the source

  530. of our energy

  531. it's God

  532. coming in

  533. through his word

  534. by faith

  535. to dwell with his people

  536. and to sustain

  537. and preserve

  538. and save you

  539. once again.

  540. the beauty

  541. of Hebrew

  542. poetry

  543. in verse 5

  544. is that

  545. there's some

  546. puffing going on.

  547. Now who does

  548. the puffing

  549. different interpreters

  550. have taken

  551. different ways

  552. I think both

  553. are part of that

  554. beautiful Hebrew

  555. poetry

  556. so you need

  557. to hear them both.

  558. On one hand

  559. the Lord

  560. says I will

  561. set him

  562. in safety

  563. from those

  564. who are

  565. puffing

  566. at you

  567. you know

  568. picture like

  569. a dog

  570. slobbering

  571. and salivating

  572. breathing in

  573. and out

  574. through their nose

  575. coming to devour

  576. you

  577. God will

  578. save you

  579. from that

  580. but I also

  581. like how the

  582. Christian Standard

  583. Bible

  584. has translated

  585. I think it

  586. handles the

  587. Hebrew very well

  588. also

  589. which puts it

  590. this way

  591. God says

  592. I will provide

  593. safety

  594. for the one

  595. who longs

  596. for it

  597. or puffs

  598. or breathes

  599. it in

  600. I'm panting

  601. like a deer

  602. as the other

  603. psalm says

  604. for God

  605. to come

  606. save me

  607. so God's

  608. word is

  609. trustworthy

  610. God's word

  611. is personal

  612. and God

  613. specifically

  614. pledges himself

  615. to preserve

  616. your walk

  617. of faith

  618. look at verse

  619. seven

  620. you will

  621. preserve them

  622. you will

  623. keep them

  624. Yahweh

  625. David as the

  626. king of Israel

  627. he knows his

  628. limits

  629. he's just a

  630. man

  631. he can't

  632. fight all the

  633. evil that seems

  634. to have spread

  635. throughout the

  636. whole kingdom

  637. it has to be

  638. the Lord

  639. to preserve

  640. his own

  641. people

  642. and he

  643. trusts

  644. and he

  645. prays

  646. you will

  647. do this

  648. Yahweh

  649. because you've

  650. promised

  651. to do

  652. this

  653. the Lord

  654. will continue

  655. to fuel

  656. your walk

  657. of faith

  658. by his

  659. word

  660. so stay

  661. in his

  662. word

  663. number

  664. three

  665. we see

  666. in Psalm

  667. 12

  668. that it

  669. is impossible

  670. to walk

  671. by faith

  672. unless

  673. God preserves

  674. you

  675. did you

  676. notice how

  677. this Psalm

  678. ends in

  679. verse 8

  680. it ends

  681. with even

  682. more lament

  683. begins with

  684. lament

  685. and it ends

  686. with lament

  687. the wicked

  688. walk on

  689. every side

  690. when what

  691. is vile

  692. is exalted

  693. among the

  694. sons of

  695. man

  696. if we

  697. follow the

  698. history of

  699. redemption

  700. throughout the

  701. Old Testament

  702. it only gets

  703. worse for

  704. the next

  705. generation

  706. after David

  707. throughout the

  708. Old Testament

  709. we hear

  710. cries of

  711. lament

  712. Jeremiah's

  713. whole preaching

  714. ministry was

  715. a ministry

  716. of lamentation

  717. they're lamenting

  718. the failure

  719. of the vineyard

  720. the failure

  721. of God's

  722. old covenant

  723. people to

  724. bear the

  725. fruit that

  726. God requires

  727. of them

  728. in Micah

  729. 7 2

  730. we read

  731. that the

  732. faithful

  733. have been

  734. swept from

  735. the land

  736. hear the

  737. similarity

  738. there is

  739. not one

  740. upright person

  741. that remains

  742. Micah

  743. wrote

  744. everyone lies

  745. in wait

  746. to shed

  747. blood

  748. they each

  749. hunt each

  750. other with

  751. nets

  752. it's impossible

  753. for God's

  754. people to

  755. walk with

  756. him and to

  757. please him

  758. and to bear

  759. the fruit

  760. unless God

  761. himself puts

  762. it in them

  763. the Lord

  764. Jesus when he

  765. came to the

  766. earth as the

  767. son of the

  768. owner of the

  769. vineyard he

  770. explained why

  771. a righteous

  772. walk is

  773. impossible

  774. in our

  775. human condition

  776. under the

  777. curse of

  778. Adam the

  779. first federal

  780. head

  781. in Matthew

  782. 12 33

  783. Jesus said

  784. either make

  785. the tree

  786. good and

  787. its fruit

  788. good or

  789. make the

  790. tree bad

  791. and its

  792. fruit bad

  793. for the

  794. tree is

  795. known by

  796. its fruit

  797. you brood

  798. of vipers

  799. how can you

  800. speak good

  801. when you

  802. are evil

  803. for out of

  804. the abundance

  805. of the heart

  806. the mouth

  807. speaks

  808. have you

  809. lamented the

  810. words that

  811. have come out

  812. of your

  813. mouth

  814. recently

  815. I have

  816. that's even

  817. more convicting

  818. because it's

  819. the overflow

  820. of my heart

  821. I need the

  822. Lord to

  823. purify my

  824. heart

  825. Jesus said

  826. the good

  827. person out

  828. of his

  829. good

  830. treasure

  831. brings forth

  832. good and

  833. the evil

  834. person out

  835. of his

  836. evil treasure

  837. brings forth

  838. evil I

  839. tell you on

  840. the day of

  841. judgment people

  842. will give

  843. account for

  844. every careless

  845. word they

  846. speak for

  847. by your

  848. words you

  849. will be

  850. justified and

  851. by your

  852. words you

  853. will be

  854. condemned

  855. in the

  856. first coming

  857. Jesus comes

  858. to bring

  859. grace and

  860. to accomplish

  861. that that

  862. work that he

  863. can offer

  864. freely to all

  865. will have

  866. faith in him

  867. but he's

  868. warning even

  869. in that first

  870. coming there

  871. is a greater

  872. judgment and

  873. the second

  874. coming of

  875. God is the

  876. day when

  877. psalm 12 will

  878. finally be

  879. fulfilled the

  880. vengeance of

  881. the Lord will

  882. be poured

  883. out the

  884. wrath of

  885. God will

  886. be upon

  887. those whose

  888. unclean heart

  889. is exposed by

  890. their unclean

  891. words you

  892. need a clean

  893. heart before

  894. Christ returns

  895. the walk of

  896. faith is

  897. impossible by

  898. our own

  899. strength but

  900. even in

  901. psalm 12 the

  902. Lord promises

  903. I am faithful

  904. forever look

  905. at verse 7

  906. one more

  907. time I

  908. will preserve

  909. them this

  910. is referring

  911. to the

  912. people of

  913. God who

  914. have faith

  915. in God

  916. and he

  917. says from

  918. this generation

  919. forever

  920. every generation

  921. that rises up

  922. and is evil

  923. within that

  924. there has been

  925. a remnant

  926. a people set

  927. apart for the

  928. Lord that

  929. receive him by

  930. faith and he

  931. promises to

  932. preserve you

  933. it's impossible

  934. for us to walk

  935. by faith unless

  936. he does

  937. well here's the

  938. good news from

  939. psalm 12

  940. it is possible

  941. for you and

  942. me to walk

  943. by faith because

  944. the Lord Jesus

  945. Christ has made

  946. this lament

  947. his own

  948. it is possible

  949. for you and

  950. me to walk by

  951. faith because

  952. Jesus came to

  953. the earth and

  954. the lament in

  955. psalm 12 he

  956. made it his

  957. own in verse

  958. 5 we read that

  959. it's because of

  960. the oppression

  961. of the weak

  962. because of the

  963. groaning of the

  964. needy the Lord

  965. says I will

  966. now arise

  967. the Lord arose

  968. in the fullness

  969. of time and he

  970. came to earth and

  971. he took on flesh

  972. and he had

  973. compassion on the

  974. multitudes that

  975. were groaning

  976. and needy

  977. and the Lord

  978. Jesus Christ he

  979. arose to

  980. experience even

  981. the sting of

  982. deceit the

  983. lament in verse

  984. two is flattering

  985. lips and a

  986. double heart

  987. in Matthew

    Matthew 15:8

  988. 15 verse 8

  989. and 9 quoting

  990. Isaiah 29 13

  991. Jesus said

  992. they draw near to

  993. me with their

  994. mouth and they

  995. honor me with

  996. their lips but

  997. their heart is

  998. far from me in

  999. vain do they

  1000. worship me teaching

  1001. as doctrine rules

  1002. made by men

  1003. Jesus saw their

  1004. double heart he

  1005. saw their flattering

  1006. lips he felt that

  1007. sting and he

  1008. lamented it the

  1009. Lord Jesus Christ

  1010. also arose from

  1011. heaven to

  1012. experience the

  1013. screech of evil

  1014. men boasting that

  1015. there's no Lord

  1016. over us we just

  1017. heard the passage

  1018. in Matthew 21

  1019. Jeremy read Jesus

  1020. telling this parable

  1021. of God's people the

  1022. vineyard and the

  1023. father the owner of

  1024. the venue saying I

  1025. will send my own

  1026. son and in Matthew

  1027. 21 37 finally he

  1028. sent his son to

  1029. them saying they

  1030. will respect my

  1031. son but when the

  1032. tenants saw the

  1033. son they said to

  1034. themselves this is

  1035. the heir come let

  1036. us kill him and

  1037. have his inheritance

  1038. and they took him

  1039. and threw him out

  1040. of the vineyard and

  1041. killed him Jesus

  1042. came with all the

  1043. authority of heaven

  1044. he declared to them

  1045. I am the promised

  1046. Messiah I am God

  1047. and they said we

  1048. will have no Lord

  1049. over us they

  1050. carried him out and

  1051. killed him the very

  1052. son of God the

  1053. Lord Jesus Christ

  1054. arose to experience

  1055. the burn of

  1056. loneliness in verse

  1057. one he laments

  1058. there is no one

  1059. faithful his was a

  1060. wicked and faithless

  1061. generation that same

  1062. crowd that had cried

  1063. Hosanna very soon

  1064. started crying crucify

  1065. him even the

  1066. disciples John

  1067. Gill commented

  1068. they were

  1069. faithless one

  1070. betrayed him

  1071. another denied

  1072. him all forsook

  1073. him and fled and

  1074. even at his death

  1075. they lost all hope

  1076. in Jesus

  1077. our Lord Jesus

  1078. experienced deceit

  1079. boasting

  1080. loneliness

  1081. holiness and you

1082. and I are the ones

  1083. guilty of every one

  1084. of those toward him

1085. had he left us on

  1086. our own

  1087. we read in Ephesians

  1088. 2 2 that you

  1089. church once walked

  1090. according to the

  1091. course of this world

  1092. but our Lord Jesus

  1093. Christ in the words

1094. of Hebrews 12 to the

  1095. author and perfecter of

1096. our faith who for the

1097. joy that was set before

  1098. him endured the cross

  1099. despising the shame

  1100. the Lord Jesus was

  1101. cut off

  1102. and buried

  1103. but then the Lord

  1104. Jesus arose and he

1105. is now seated at the

  1106. right hand of the

  1107. throne of God

1108. in verse 3 of Psalm

  1109. 12 the psalmist

1110. asked for God to take

  1111. justice into his own

  1112. hands he says Lord

1113. may you cut off all

  1114. flattering lips and a

  1115. boasting tongue

  1116. David's a warrior and a

  1117. king in ancient times

1118. and this was a practice

  1119. that continued all the

1120. way up until the Roman

  1121. Empire maybe later

  1122. you capture your enemy

1123. and you cut off their

  1124. tongues

1125. usually it was it was to

  1126. make an example to

  1127. others

  1128. here's someone who

  1129. practiced treason

  1130. they spoke out against

  1131. the kingdom

  1132. cut off their tongue

1133. a person who would speak

  1134. blasphemy against God

  1135. that's what they deserve

  1136. that very tongue

  1137. will be cut off

  1138. you can never speak

  1139. blasphemy again

  1140. it's a show of force

  1141. when a person's tongue

  1142. was cut off

  1143. normally they would not

  1144. bleed to death right

  1145. away but in those

  1146. ancient times they would

  1147. often become infected

1148. and swell up making it

  1149. very difficult for them

1150. to swallow or eat and

  1151. so they would die

  1152. eventually

  1153. David's prayer for the

1154. Lord to cut off the

  1155. tongues of the wicked

  1156. is not answered

  1157. and David doesn't take

  1158. matters into his own

  1159. hands with the sword

1160. and do that for God

  1161. either

  1162. I've meditated on

1163. how did that part of

  1164. this psalm get fulfilled

  1165. if ever

  1166. maybe you're a little bit

  1167. ahead of me

  1168. you process faster

  1169. why did the Lord

1170. not cut off the tongues

  1171. of the wicked

  1172. it's because he's coming

  1173. again

  1174. and on that day

  1175. when he returns

  1176. you know what happens

  1177. every knee

  1178. shall bow

  1179. what's the next part

  1180. every tongue

  1181. shall confess

  1182. that Jesus Christ

  1183. is Lord

  1184. amen

  1185. he fulfills

  1186. Psalm 12

  1187. my last encouragement

  1188. to you is that

  1189. the Lord

  1190. who walked by faith

  1191. who made this lament

  1192. his own

1193. he calls you and me

  1194. to follow him

  1195. the Lord

  1196. walked on earth

  1197. by faith

  1198. according to his

  1199. human nature

  1200. and he calls you

  1201. and me

  1202. to follow him

  1203. trusting his word

  1204. maybe some of you

  1205. have had to be

  1206. in sales

  1207. or been a recruiter

  1208. and it's very hard

1209. to not pull a bait

  1210. and switch on people

  1211. when you're recruiting

  1212. you promise something

  1213. better

  1214. something good

  1215. and you under deliver

  1216. you notice how

  1217. Jesus invites you

1218. and me to follow him

  1219. Luke 9 23

  1220. if anyone

  1221. would come after me

  1222. let him deny himself

  1223. take up his cross

  1224. daily

  1225. and follow

  1226. me

  1227. God is real

  1228. God deals with truth

  1229. Psalm 12

  1230. a psalm of lament

  1231. is real

  1232. it's for real people

  1233. like you and me

1234. and so you can go to God

  1235. because

1236. there's no bait and switch

  1237. he's up front

  1238. it's going to be

  1239. full of lament

  1240. it's going to be

  1241. a cross daily

  1242. follow me

  1243. Yahweh's words

  1244. are flawless

  1245. words

  1246. as refined

  1247. in a clay

  1248. furnace

  1249. purified

  1250. seven times

  1251. and God's word

  1252. says

  1253. in Romans 8 1

  1254. there is

  1255. therefore now

  1256. no condemnation

  1257. for those

  1258. who are in

  1259. Christ Jesus

  1260. and who walk

  1261. according

  1262. to his spirit

  1263. Romans 6 4

  1264. Christ was raised

  1265. from the dead

  1266. through the glory

  1267. of the father

  1268. why

  1269. so that you

  1270. and I

  1271. may walk

  1272. in newness

  1273. of life

  1274. I started off

  1275. telling you about

  1276. Ramsey

  1277. who took away

  1278. that package

  1279. so the Christian

  1280. school teacher

  1281. never could get

  1282. his Bible

  1283. well Ramsey's name

  1284. was changed

  1285. to keep him safe

  1286. by the Bible

  1287. International League

  1288. Bible League

  1289. International

  1290. and Ramsey

  1291. didn't just

  1292. throw that

  1293. package in the

  1294. trash

  1295. he kept

  1296. this New Testament

  1297. and he started

  1298. reading it

  1299. from the very

  1300. beginning of the

  1301. cover

  1302. so he read

  1303. through the

  1304. gospel according

  1305. to Matthew

  1306. then he read

  1307. through the

  1308. gospel

  1309. the life and

  1310. work of Jesus

  1311. according to

  1312. Mark

  1313. then Luke

  1314. by the time

  1315. he got to the

  1316. gospel according

  1317. to John the

  1318. fourth time

  1319. he changed his

  1320. reason for wanting

  1321. to read it

  1322. at first he was

  1323. wanting to mock

  1324. and just understand

  1325. this is what

  1326. Christians believe

  1327. how crazy

  1328. by the fourth

  1329. time he said

  1330. this is what

  1331. I believe

  1332. I do believe

  1333. Jesus is the

  1334. son of God

  1335. how could he

  1336. not be what

  1337. I just read

  1338. and then he

  1339. kept reading

  1340. to get his

  1341. question answered

  1342. because he knew

  1343. if Jesus is the

  1344. son of God

  1345. but I'm a

  1346. sinner

  1347. I'm full of

  1348. vileness

  1349. my lips

  1350. are deceiving

  1351. there's no hope

  1352. for a person

  1353. like me

  1354. how could I

  1355. ever be saved

  1356. and this burden

  1357. was not lifted

  1358. but he kept

  1359. reading God's

  1360. word

  1361. finally the

  1362. Lord by his

  1363. Holy Spirit

  1364. answered Ramsey's

  1365. question

  1366. when he got

  1367. to Acts 16

  1368. 30

  1369. that Philippian

  1370. jailer

  1371. who put these

  1372. believers in

  1373. prison

  1374. a corrupt

  1375. government

  1376. official just

  1377. like him

  1378. he asked that

  1379. question

  1380. what can a

  1381. person like

  1382. me do to

  1383. be saved

  1384. and they

  1385. preached the

  1386. gospel to

  1387. him

  1388. believe in

  1389. the Lord

  1390. Jesus Christ

  1391. and you

  1392. will be

  1393. saved

  1394. well Ramsey

  1395. got saved

  1396. by faith

  1397. in Christ

  1398. he looked

  1399. up that

  1400. Christian

  1401. school teacher's

  1402. address

  1403. found some

  1404. other Christians

  1405. bought a

  1406. copy of the

  1407. New Testament

  1408. from them

  1409. gave it to

  1410. that Christian

  1411. apologized to

  1412. him

  1413. joined the

  1414. Christian

  1415. fellowship

  1416. in Egypt

  1417. and now

  1418. he is

  1419. one of the

  1420. biggest

  1421. distributors

  1422. of Bibles

  1423. he gives

  1424. out New

  1425. Testaments

  1426. to Egyptian

  1427. Muslims

  1428. as much

  1429. as the

  1430. Bible League

  1431. International

  1432. can supply

  1433. him with

  1434. he is

  1435. giving them

  1436. out

  1437. so that

  1438. more people

  1439. can hear

  1440. the good

  1441. word

  1442. this is

  1443. the word

  1444. of God

  1445. purified

  1446. seven times

  1447. over

  1448. and it is

  1449. enough

  1450. for God

  1451. to use

  1452. to save

  1453. a person

  1454. like me

  1455. of course

  1456. he can

  1457. save you

  1458. that is

  1459. Ramsey's

  1460. testimony

  1461. and that is

  1462. why we are

  1463. here church

  1464. 2 Corinthians

  1465. 6 16

  1466. the word

  1467. of God

  1468. says that

  1469. you Christians

  1470. you are

  1471. the temple

  1472. of the living

  1473. God

  1474. even as

  1475. God said

  1476. I will

  1477. dwell in

  1478. them

  1479. and I

  1480. will walk

  1481. in them

  1482. I will

  1483. be their

  1484. God

  1485. and they

  1486. will be

  1487. my people

  1488. it's

  1489. through the

  1490. word of

  1491. God

  1492. he walks

  1493. with us

  1494. he ministers

  1495. among his

  1496. church

  1497. we just

  1498. sang and we

  1499. exhort each

  1500. other

  1501. speak oh

  1502. Lord

  1503. till your

  1504. church is

  1505. built

  1506. and the

  1507. earth is

  1508. filled

  1509. with your

  1510. glory

  1511. and by

  1512. grace

  1513. we'll

  1514. stand

  1515. on your

  1516. promises

  1517. and by

  1518. faith

  1519. we will

  1520. walk

  1521. as you

  1522. walk

  1523. with us

  1524. you can

  1525. walk by

  1526. faith

  1527. because the

  1528. Lord

  1529. walks with

  1530. his

  1531. people

  1532. he

  1533. feeds

  1534. his

  1535. people

  1536. he

  1537. ministers

  1538. to us

  1539. by his

  1540. word

  1541. and so

  1542. as we read

  1543. in Hebrews

  1544. 12 1 and 2

  1545. let us also

  1546. lay aside

  1547. every weight

  1548. and sin

  1549. which clings

  1550. so closely

  1551. and let us

  1552. walk

  1553. no let us

  1554. run

  1555. with endurance

  1556. the race

  1557. that is set

  1558. before us

  1559. looking to

  1560. Jesus Christ

  1561. the author

  1562. and the anchor

  1563. of our faith

  1564. amen

  1565. amen

  1566. let us

  1567. spend some

  1568. time in

  1569. prayer

  1570. praising

  1571. the Lord

  1572. trusting

  1573. him

  1574. thanking

  1575. him

  1576. that he

  1577. turns

  1578. our

  1579. lament

  1580. into a

  1581. fulfilled

  1582. promise

  1583. that we

  1584. rest in

  1585. by faith

  1586. yet again

  1587. today

  1588. amen

  1589. amen
