  1. To the gospel that is on page 20.

  2. If you have your books and Jackson, why don't you grab a

  3. couple microphones for me and we'll start them in the back

  4. this time. I've got a lot of verses to read

  5. tonight, so I'm going to get some of you to read.

  6. Let's turn over. Everybody can turn over though,

  7. to 1st Corinthians chapter 15. First Corinthians chapter 15,

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  8. kind of what we've been talking about already is the gospel.

  9. Obviously it's all kind of wrapped up in both, but we've

  10. talked about repentance and faith so far.

  11. And just to give you a quick review about what biblical

  12. repentance is, it is admitting that I've sinned and being

  13. sorry, but it's not just admitting that I've sinned, it's

  14. admitting that I've sinned against God.

  15. He is the one that I've sinned against.

  16. He's the one who's perfect. He's the one that's just, and

  17. when I sin, it's sinning against God.

  18. And so that's why Paul says in Acts chapter 20, verse 21,

    Acts 20:21

  19. repentance is toward God and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  20. So it's admitting that I've sinned against God and being

  21. sorry for that. It means to turn around and

  22. change directions. It means to surrender to God's

  23. rule. It's not just a change of life

  24. if it's a change of mind about God and about sin and that

  25. results in a change of life. And we gave some examples of

  26. that and talked about some more things underneath that.

  27. And then last week we talked about the saving faith and you

  28. mentioned the five things that are kind of the characteristics

  29. of faith. And I want to reiterate this

  30. again. We're not, you know, we're not

  31. trying to make it impossible for people to get saved.

  32. The Bible doesn't make it impossible for people to get

  33. saved. We're just trying to be very

  34. careful about making sure that we're not pushing someone into a

  35. false profession or a false sense of salvation when

  36. repentance and faith are not both elements of, of someone

  37. accepting Christ. There's a ditch on both sides of

  38. the road. You can make it so easy that all

  39. you have to do is go get baptized and you're saved, or

  40. you can make it so difficult that nobody could ever get saved

  41. because they didn't have a change in their life or

  42. something like that. So, but, but you know,

  43. repentance is not a work. Repentance is it leads to works,

  44. right? You're not saved because you

  45. stopped sinning. But when you get saved, you

  46. should want to stop sinning. And the Holy Spirit will help

  47. you do those things. And so that's that's kind of

  48. repentance and faith in a nutshell, which really is the

  49. gospel in a nutshell as well. But really, First Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  50. chapter 15 and verse 3 and 4 is, is the gospel in a nutshell.

  51. There's three elements there that we'll talk about.

  52. And I think it's going to take us a couple of weeks to get

  53. through this. I've added a few more things

  54. into this to, to give you, I think some things that'll be a

  55. little bit interesting and a couple, a couple discussion

  56. things that we'll go through. But here's what the Bible says

  57. in First Corinthians chapter 15 and verse #3 For I delivered

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  58. unto you, first of all, that which I also received, how that

  59. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and

  60. that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day

  61. according to the Scriptures. Now, nowhere else in Scripture

  62. is the gospel summarized that briefly, but it is a very

  63. important passage. And there's a few things that go

  64. along with this. Now, I think this is, I think

  65. this is very interesting. The Bible says according to the

  66. Scriptures, right? When First Corinthians was

  67. written, what were the Scriptures?

  68. The Old Testament, right? I mean, the Old Testament was

  69. the Scriptures. And so the fact now, now you

  70. know, the Jews, especially today would say that Jesus Christ is

  71. not the Messiah. You know he's not.

  72. And so they don't, they don't read the New Testament Jesus.

  73. They don't want anything to do with Jesus.

  74. He's an imposter. You know, he was not the

  75. Messiah. We're still waiting for the

  76. Messiah and everything else. But very plainly here he is

  77. saying that the Scriptures gave us everything we needed to know

  78. about Jesus. He died, He was buried, He rose

  79. again the third day according to the Scriptures.

  80. I think it's very interesting. And we're going to look at a

  81. bunch of those verses that talk about that in the Old Testament.

  82. But a couple things here as we get into that, we need to know

  83. the right gospel because it's the only way of salvation,

  84. right? Let's go back to the verse right

  85. before that by which also ye are saved.

  86. Actually, let's go to verse one. Moreover, brethren, I declare

  87. unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also

  88. you have received, and wherein you stand, by which also ye are

  89. saved, If you keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless

  90. you have believed in vain. We're going to talk about that a

  91. little bit later as well. But we have to have the right

  92. gospel. There's a lot of people

  93. preaching a gospel, but not the right one.

  94. We need to know the right gospel because Paul warned that every

  95. false gospel is cursed of God. And let me get a few of you to

  96. read if we can. I think what we'll do is just

  97. pick one person from each row if you, if you want to raise your

  98. hand. All right, when I get there.

  99. All right, brother. Kevin, why don't you look up

  100. First Corinthians? I'm sorry, Galatians, 1/6

  101. through 9, Somebody on Brother Bill's row.

  102. Want to read anybody? All right, Miss Diana, Mark

  103. 1615, all the First Corinthians verses will save because we're

  104. all kind of there. All right, let's see here.

  105. Somebody on Levi's row. Oh, Levi, you want to read?

  106. All right, Psalm 22. All right, the row in front of

  107. that. But Gary, somebody on that row,

  108. Sarah. All right, Psalm 13217.

  109. We'll switch to the other side here and and start from the

  110. back. Everybody in the back always

  111. gets left out. All right, Scott, you want to

  112. read? All right, Daniel 925 and 26.

  113. Ryan, Isaiah 9/6 and seven. All right, with John Romans 323.

  114. Those they're right. They're given to us.

  115. The next one will be first. John 3-4 somebody on brother

  116. Johnny's row want to read. All right.

  117. Well, Johnny, all right, first John 3-4 somebody on Matt's row

  118. want to read Matt. All right, Isaiah 53 six.

  119. We'll stop there for now. We'll see how far we get.

  120. I'll probably give you some more, but so when, when it when

  121. it comes your turn to read, use the microphone, if you will.

  122. That way it picks it up for everybody that's listening and

  123. it just makes it easier for everybody else to hear and then

  124. pass it to the person in in the row in front of you.

  125. All right, very good. All right.

  126. So we need to know the right gospel because Paul warned that

  127. every false gospel is cursed of God.

  128. Galatians 1/6 through 9. Hold you into the grace of

  129. Christ unto another gospel, which is not another, but there

  130. be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of

  131. Christ. But though we or an Angel from

  132. heaven preach any other gospel unto you, then that which we

  133. have preached unto you, let him be accursed, as we said before.

  134. So I say now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto

  135. you, then that ye have received, let him be accursed.

  136. OK, now that just goes to show you that even even in Paul's day

  137. and Paul was, was first generation after Christ, right,

  138. that there was already people who are preaching the false

  139. gospel. And Paul said we've, we've

  140. already given you what the gospel is.

  141. If anybody comes, doesn't matter if it's us, it doesn't matter if

  142. it's an Angel coming and preaching another gospel to you,

  143. doesn't matter who it is. If it's a different gospel, let

  144. them be accursed. That's just that's a strong

  145. statement. So we need to know the right

  146. gospel because every false gospel is cursed of God.

  147. And we also need to know the right gospel because Jesus

  148. commanded us to preach the gospel to every creature.

  149. Mark chapter 16 and verse 15. And unto them go ye into all the

    Mark 16 chapter mention

  150. world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

  151. OK, So if he's telling us to go and preach the gospel to every

  152. creature, we better know what the gospel is, right?

  153. It's important that we know what the gospel is if we're supposed

  154. to be preaching it to everybody. So Paul addressed this

  155. presentation of the gospel to the believers.

  156. Moreover, brethren, he says there in First Corinthians 15

  157. verse one, this is to the brethren.

  158. So the people who are saved. And basically what that's

  159. teaching us is that people who are new believers need to

  160. understand what the gospel is so that they can share that with

  161. others. And listen, I know if you're, if

  162. you're relatively new at this, if you're, if you're a new

  163. Christian and you, you get overwhelmed with the idea of how

  164. can I tell somebody else how to be saved?

  165. I don't even hardly know any of the Bible myself, right?

  166. But tell them what happened to you, right?

  167. Tell them how you got saved. Give them your testimony.

  168. That's all you got to do. They may not be able to answer

  169. every one of their questions, but you just do what Philip did

  170. and preach unto them Jesus, right?

  171. What did he do in your life? That's a good place to start.

  172. But at the same time, then it's important that you, that you be

  173. grounded in those truths so that you can share them with other

  174. people. And it also teaches us as older

  175. believers that we need to learn the gospel better and better.

  176. And, and I'll be honest with you, I've been saved for 35 plus

  177. years. I've been sharing the gospel a

  178. long time. And, and even really within the

  179. last couple years, I've, I've, I've found some better

  180. illustrations, some way to some ways to illustrate the gospel

  181. better, some ways to help get the message of the gospel across

  182. a little bit more clearly. And, you know, some different

  183. verses that we can go to that'll, that'll help back up

  184. some of the familiar verses that we go to.

  185. And, and, you know, we, we're constantly learning it at how to

  186. share it better. It's not something different.

  187. We're saying the same thing, just some, something that'll

  188. help somebody understand it a little bit better.

  189. That's the, that's the goal behind the whole thing.

  190. So we'll never stop learning about the gospel.

  191. So here's some important questions then that we're going

  192. to answer over the over this week and next.

  193. Every foundational truth about the gospel is covered in this

  194. passage in First Corinthians 15. So what are those things then?

  195. Well, first of all, the question is, what is the gospel?

  196. And there are three major parts to the gospel of Christ, and

  197. they're broken down for us here in First Corinthians 15 and

  198. verse 3 and 4. But the first one then is that

  199. Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures.

  200. And he says that For I delivered unto you, first of all, that

  201. which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins

  202. according to the Scriptures. Few things to notice here.

  203. Then who was it that died? Well, it was Christ.

  204. Christ is the one that died. Jesus is the one that's promised

  205. in the Old Testament. And if the Jews were not

  206. willfully ignorant of this fact, they would easily be able to see

  207. it. Everything that was promised

  208. about the Messiah was fulfilled in Jesus Christ and the Bible

  209. very plainly is saying that too. Christ died for our sins

  210. according to the Scriptures. So here's the fulfillment of

  211. those Old Testament prophecies. Couple interesting things here.

  212. The name Christ is a Greek word that means anointed one, Jesus

  213. Christ Jesus the anointed one. The Hebrew word Messiah means

  214. the same thing, the anointed. 1 And let's look at these couple

  215. passages here in Psalms. Psalm 2.

  216. Two, who is that? Levi.

  217. The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take

  218. counsel together against the Lord and against his anointed

  219. saying. Against his anointed Psalm 13217

  220. there will I make the horn of David to bud.

  221. I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.

  222. OK, so Jesus, and there's a lot of other verses that talk about

  223. this, and we're going to look into some more of these,

  224. especially when you get into Psalm 22 and when you start

  225. getting into some of these other different passages.

  226. There should be another microphone back there, Is there?

  227. Yeah, He's got it. Brother Ryan, you just leave it

  228. there on that seat. And if we need to keep passing

  229. it forward, then we will. No, it's my fault.

  230. I should have said that. But the prophets said that the

  231. Messiah would come to the earth the first time to be cut off or

  232. die for man's sins. Daniel.

  233. OK Daniel Chapter 9, verse 25 and 26.

    Daniel 9:25

  234. Or an understand that from the going forth of the commandment

  235. to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah, the

  236. Prince shall be 7 weeks and three score and two weeks the

  237. street shall be built again in the wall, even in troublous

  238. times. And after three score and two

  239. weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself.

  240. And the people of the Prince that shall come, she'll destroy

  241. the city and the sanctuary, and the end thereof shall be with

  242. the flood. And unto the end of the war

  243. desolations are determined. OK, You know, the, the

  244. interesting thing is and, and those who are missionaries, if

  245. you will, to the Jewish people, there's some who are

  246. missionaries in Israel. There are some, I mean, there's,

  247. there's pockets of Jews everywhere.

  248. There's a huge pocket of Jews in New York City.

  249. So I know that, I know several missionaries that are

  250. missionaries to the Jews there. You can't, you cannot go through

  251. John and Romans and 1st Corinthians.

  252. You can't go through those books with them.

  253. They don't believe it, right? And you can show them all the

  254. verses you want to about the Messiah and everything else.

  255. They're not going to accept it because they don't believe the

  256. New Testament. They don't believe that Jesus

  257. was the Messiah. But there are so many verses in

  258. the Old Testament that talk about that.

  259. And those who are missionaries to the Jewish people are much

  260. better at it in in sharing those verses and and pointing those

  261. verses out. But there are so many verses in

  262. the Old Testament that talk about the Messiah coming.

  263. And all of those things are all things that were prophesied

  264. about the Messiah and every one of them was fulfilled in Christ.

  265. Daniel would not necessarily be one that you would think of that

  266. would be prophesying about the Messiah, but he is and he did.

  267. And not only does Daniel say that the Messiah would be cut

  268. off, that he would die for man's sins, but that he would come

  269. against a rule on the throne of David and to establish the

  270. Kingdom of God on the earth. And we find that in Isaiah

    Isaiah 9:6

  271. Chapter 9 verse 6 and 7. To us a child is born, unto us a

  272. son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and

  273. his name shall be called. Wonderful Counselor, the mighty

  274. God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, of the increase

  275. of His government and peace, there shall be no end upon the

  276. throne of David and upon his Kingdom, to order it and to

  277. establish it with judgment and with justice.

  278. From henceforth, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts

  279. will perform this. OK, now we always read Isaiah 96

  280. around Christmas, don't we? Government wonderful counselor,

  281. mighty God, everlasting father, Prince of Peace.

  282. Oh, what a wonderful verse about the Messiah.

  283. But you continue on with that and basically says, hey, his

  284. Kingdom is never going to end. It's eternal.

  285. Well, he's not talking about David, right?

  286. David died just like he's like every other man who there's

  287. nobody else that he could be talking about other than the

  288. Messiah, than Jesus Christ. So we noticed who died.

  289. It was Christ, but then also why Christ died.

  290. And here we go all the way back to the idea of repentance.

  291. Again, this is absolutely necessary as a part of salvation

  292. because all men are sinners. Romans 323.

  293. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.

  294. OK, so when Adam disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, that he

  295. became a Sinner and all of his children inherited that fallen

  296. nature. And we read that in Romans

    Romans 5 chapter mention

  297. chapter 5 and verse 12. Wherefore as by one man sin

  298. entered into the world and death by sin.

  299. And so death passed upon all men for that all have sinned.

  300. Adam sinned in the garden that passed that sin nature that that

  301. that fallen nature unto us. And so we're sinners by nature's

  302. no, nobody has to teach us how to sin.

  303. And I know that we've, you know, we've said that many times.

  304. You know, you don't teach a kid how to lie, right?

  305. You don't have to teach them how to steal.

  306. You don't have to teach them how to disobey.

  307. They just naturally do that, right?

  308. No, nobody's ever sat their kids down and taught them.

  309. Now this is what lying is. Here's how you do it, right?

  310. It's like they come out of the womb knowing how to tell a lie,

  311. right? Even the baby's screaming and

  312. crying, Oh, I'm dying. You pick them up and they're

  313. like, oh, thank you, nothing was wrong with me.

  314. I just wanted you to pick me up, right?

  315. But you don't have to teach that to kids.

  316. You have to, you have to teach them not to do those things

  317. because we all have that fallen nature.

  318. The Bible says this and you have them right there.

  319. So we're not going to turn to them.

  320. But Psalm 58, three, the wicked are estranged from the womb.

  321. They go astray as soon as they be born.

  322. Speaking lies, the fallen human heart is full of sin and deceit.

  323. We have Jeremiah 17 and verse 9. The heart is deceitful above all

  324. things and desperately wicked. Who can know it, which is why

  325. you know, it's such a lie of the devil.

  326. What you hear today, just follow your heart, right?

  327. No, don't follow your heart. Your heart's deceitful.

  328. It's desperately wicked. You follow your heart, you're

  329. going to find yourself in a place you don't want to be,

  330. right? Don't follow your heart.

  331. Follow God, follow the Lord, follow God's word.

  332. So to sin is to break God's law. And we find that in first John

  333. 3/4. Is that you?

  334. OK, He's got the microphone for you there First.

  335. John 3/4. First, John 3/4 Whosoever

  336. transgressed the law. Also, I'm sorry, who commit?

  337. Whosoever commits to sin transgressed to the law, for sin

  338. is a transgression of the law. OK, so whosoever transgresseth

  339. the law, transgresseth means to break, right?

  340. You break the law, you've committed a sin.

  341. For sin is the breaking or the transgression of the law.

  342. That's what a sin is, right? What are the laws?

  343. Well, we've got a lot of commands in God's Word.

  344. I think there's something like 1090 commands in the Bible,

  345. right? The most well known of them are

  346. the 10 commandments. And the easiest one of them is

  347. thou shalt not bear false witness.

  348. Thou shalt not lie, right? Everybody's total lie in their

  349. life. So there you go.

  350. You've broken the 10 commandments.

  351. Well, what about, well, I've never murdered anybody.

  352. Well, what did Jesus say in the New Testament when he, when he

  353. got into the Sermon on the Mount?

  354. You have hate in your heart toward a brother, You might as

  355. well murdered him, right? You're guilty of murder.

  356. What about? Well, I've never, at least I've

  357. never committed adultery, Right? Well, what did he say about

  358. that? Whosoever looketh on a woman to

  359. lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his

  360. heart. So most everybody has broken all

  361. of the 10 commandments, not just one or two of them, right?

  362. We've all, we're all guilty of it.

  363. James, chapter 2 and verse 10. What does it say?

    James 2 chapter mention

  364. Fear thou shalt keep the whole law, but offended.

  365. Close. Yeah.

  366. Whosoever shall keep the whole law and yet offended one point

  367. is guilty of all right. It's like it's like somebody

  368. that that robs a bank and you stand before the judge and he

  369. tells the judge, well, I haven't done anything else.

  370. I mean, I just robbed one person, right?

  371. And was the judge going to say, sorry, that's all it takes for

  372. you to go to jail? It's not like you have to have

  373. 10 charges for you to go to jail.

  374. One, that's all it takes. And that's exactly what he's

  375. saying. You can keep the entire law.

  376. You can keep everything. Break one law and you're guilty

  377. of all of it. You can't enter heaven because

  378. of that, right? So to sin is to break God's law.

  379. Sin is to turn away from God to our own way.

  380. Isaiah 53, six. Yep. 36 All we, like sheep, have

  381. gone astray. We have turned everyone to his

  382. own way, and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

  383. Yep, all we like sheep, have gone astray.

  384. We've turned everyone to his own way.

  385. And what does the Bible say? The Lord hath laid on him the

  386. iniquity of us all, because we are sinners, right?

  387. If we never sinned, Jesus Christ never would have had to die.

  388. But because we're sinners, He had to so in God's eyes, because

  389. their holy eyes. All men are terrible sinners.

  390. That's what made Christ have to die in the cross.

  391. God never would have had to send his only begotten son to die if

  392. it wasn't for my sin. And there's a lot of sins that

  393. are described there in Romans chapter 3, verse 9 through 18.

    Romans 3:9–18

  394. Fact. Keep, keep your finger there in

  395. first Corinthians 15. Let's, let's just it's pretty

  396. close. Let's go back and look at it.

  397. Romans chapter 3, verse 9. What then?

    Romans 3:9

  398. Are we better than they? No, and no wise.

  399. For we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are

  400. all under sin. As it is written.

  401. There is none righteous, No, not one.

  402. There is none. That's that.

  403. Understand that there's none that seeketh after God.

  404. They're all gone out of the way. They are together, become

  405. unprofitable. There's none that doeth good,

  406. No, not one. Their throat is an open

  407. sepulchre. With their tongues they have

  408. used deceit. The poison of ASPs is under

  409. their lips, whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness.

  410. Their feet are swift to shed blood.

  411. Destruction and misery are in their ways and the way of peace.

  412. Have they not known? There is No Fear of God before

  413. their eyes. And the list just keeps going of

  414. things that he that he lists of things in ways that we've broken

  415. the law, right? We've all broken God's law.

  416. No person can be saved unless he acknowledges that he's a Sinner

  417. the exact way that the Bible says that he is.

  418. Man's sinful condition is an essential teaching of the

  419. gospel, and that's where repentance is necessary.

  420. And I'll say this too, humility is essential to come into

  421. Christ, right? Somebody, somebody who's trying

  422. to convince themselves that they're good enough or has done

  423. enough is not saved, cannot be saved, right?

  424. Because until you see yourself as a, as a horrible Sinner in

  425. God's eyes, you cannot, you cannot be saved.

  426. That humility is absolutely necessary as part of that.

  427. And there's so many people who have this mindset that, well,

  428. I'm not that bad, right? That's, that's a lack of

  429. humility. It's the pride that's coming up

  430. in US. No, you may not be that bad

  431. compared to somebody else, but compare yourself to the holiness

  432. of God and see where you line up right?

  433. Compared to the holiness of God, we are that bad, right?

  434. The Bible says we are together, become unprofitable.

  435. There is none that do with good. No, not one even in Isaiah says

  436. that even our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.

  437. Even the good things that we do compared to the goodness and the

  438. holiness of God is just, it falls so short.

  439. So it's absolutely necessary for us to understand that Christ

  440. died for our sins because all men are sinners.

  441. But then also the Bible says that every sin will be punished.

  442. And let's, let's have a few more people read here.

  443. Somebody on Doc's row. Doc, you want to read James 29

  444. and 10. Somebody in the front row want

  445. to read Alex. Let's do Ecclesiastes 12/14.

  446. I think that's good for those Romans 623.

  447. Andrew, looks like you're on a row by yourself.

  448. Romans 623. And then we'll read Revelation

  449. 2011 through 15 together. Somebody want to read on the on

  450. the 2nd row. All right.

  451. Oh, you can fight it out with Hannah.

  452. All right, Hannah, 2nd Corinthians 521.

  453. And then we'll see where that puts us.

  454. There you go. All right.

  455. OK, so the Bible says that every sin will be punished.

  456. James 29 and 10. James 29 and 10.

  457. But if you have respect to persons, you commit sin, and are

  458. convinced of the law as transgressors.

  459. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offended one

  460. point, he is guilty of all. OK, so the Bible says that every

  461. sin will be punished, every secret thing will be judged.

  462. Let's try Ecclesiastes 12/14 For God shall bring every work into

  463. judgment. With every secret thing, whether

  464. it be good or whether it be evil, every secret thing is

  465. going to be found out. First Corinthians 4-5 Therefore

  466. judge nothing before the time until the Lord come, who both

  467. will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will

  468. make manifest the counsels of the hearts, and then every man.

  469. Then shall every man have praise of God.

  470. Everything that's hidden, everything that we think is

  471. hidden, I should say, is going to be made, is going to be

  472. brought to light. So the punishment then is death.

  473. Romans 623. But the gift of God is eternal

  474. life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  475. OK, wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life

  476. through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let's all turn to Revelation 20

  477. now. Again, most of you in here are

  478. are saved. I'm not I'm not giving you the

  479. gospel tonight. I'm giving you verses and some

  480. things. And this is what that's the

  481. whole point of what we're doing for you to help lead somebody

  482. else to Christ. And it's absolutely necessary

  483. that you understand that you've got to make people understand

  484. that they are a Sinner, right? It's, it's not, it's, it's not

  485. the comfortable part of it. You don't want to tell people

  486. that they're wrong. You don't want to tell people

  487. that they're a Sinner and that they're on their way to hell.

  488. But it's exactly like what I said at the at Brother Todd's

  489. funeral the other day. I would rather hurt you with the

  490. truth than comfort you with a lie, right?

  491. To know that you're a Sinner is absolutely essential to coming

  492. to the realization that you need to repent and turn to Christ.

  493. But if I just tell you, well, yeah, I mean, you're not that

  494. bad. I know compared to a lot of

  495. other people, you're not that bad.

  496. But you know, Jesus died on the cross because he loved you so

  497. much and he wants to take you to heaven when you die.

  498. You don't mention anything about about sin.

  499. And that person just continues on in that same direction after

  500. they get saved. They didn't get saved.

  501. Sin absolutely has to be brought into the equation.

  502. So this is this is part of the gospel, right?

  503. That he, Christ died for our sins according to the

  504. Scriptures. It's, it's the reason he died.

  505. So Revelation 20, verse 11. And I saw a great white throne

    Revelation 20:11

  506. in him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the

  507. heaven fled away, and there was found no place for them.

  508. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God.

  509. And the books were opened, and another book was opened, which

  510. is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of

  511. those things which were written in the books according to their

  512. works. And the sea gave up the dead

  513. which were in it. And death and hell delivered up

  514. the dead which were in them. And they were judged every man

  515. according to their works. And death and hell were cast

  516. into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

  517. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was

  518. cast into the lake of fire. And that's, that's the

  519. punishment. I mean, it's, it's, it's not

  520. the, the fun part of it. You know, obviously it's

  521. wonderful to talk about heaven and everything that heaven has

  522. not as not as wonderful to talk about hell.

  523. But we absolutely have to if we're going to bring somebody to

  524. that realization that their sin is going to be punished unless

  525. they get it covered under the blood of Christ.

  526. So the Bible says that every sin will be punished.

  527. The good news of the gospel is that Christ died for our sins.

  528. He is the sinless Son of God, and he didn't deserve to die.

  529. He died in our place. He took our punishment.

  530. Salvation is an exchange. Christ is the Sinner substitute.

  531. When we believe on Christ, he takes our sin, we take his

  532. righteousness. That's such an amazing thing,

  533. the substitutionary atonement of Jesus Christ.

  534. That's what, that's a long word, but that's what that means, the

  535. substitutionary atonement. He was my substitute.

  536. He took my place, I gave him my sin, he gave me his

  537. righteousness. What a what a bad deal for him,

  538. but what a great deal for us, right?

  539. I gave him my sin and he gave me his righteousness.

  540. That's the illustration that I use often of, of, of the list of

  541. all the sins that we have. And then the blood of Jesus

  542. Christ is covering those sins, right?

  543. That's that's the only way that we're going to be able to stand

  544. before God. Somebody dying.

  545. Oh, there you go. So, all right, so Second

    2 Corinthians 5 chapter mention

  546. Corinthians chapter 5 and verse 21.

  547. Did I give that to somebody? OK.

  548. For he who, for he made him, He knew no sin to be sin for us,

  549. that we might become the righteousness of God in him.

  550. OK, for he made him to be sin for us who knew no sin that we

  551. might be made the righteousness of God in him.

  552. That is, that's a, that's a powerful, powerful position.

  553. And it's only possible because of this substitutionary

  554. atonement of Jesus Christ. The atonement was the blood that

  555. was shed for us. All right?

  556. And that's the other thing that, that the people, a lot of

  557. people, oh, it's just, it's gory blood and all this stuff.

  558. It is, it was a gory death, right?

  559. But he did that for me. He did it for you because I am a

  560. Sinner and you're a Sinner. And we needed somebody to, to do

  561. that for us. And Jesus was the one that was

  562. willing to do it. So to be saved, the individual

  563. must see himself as a wicked Sinner before God who is

  564. deserving of eternal condemnation.

  565. Nobody can be saved apart from that, if the person still thinks

  566. of himself as basically a good person, he cannot be saved,

  567. right? You might do some good things,

  568. but we're not good people. Even our righteousness is the

  569. Bible said our filthy ranks. A pastor friend was on soul

  570. winning visitation in California with a veteran missionary one

  571. Saturday when a Roman Catholic man answered the door on it.

  572. In a few minutes, the missionary showed the man.

  573. The Romans Rd. led the man in the sinner's prayer and while he

  574. was filling out the church report and getting the man's

  575. information so he can report him as saved, my pastor friend asked

  576. the man whether he believed he was a good person and whether

  577. believe he believed that it's possible for a person to go to

  578. heaven by being a good person. The man answered yes.

  579. It's obvious that that man was not ready to get saved, and it's

  580. criminal to lead people in a sinner's prayer when they don't

  581. understand or don't agree with the basic truth of the Gospel.

  582. And again, where this is not a salesman technique, right?

  583. We're not trying to get somebody to buy life insurance.

  584. We're we're trying to help them understand that they need to

  585. accept Christ as their Savior before it's too late.

  586. But I'm not trying to trick them into buying salvation or even

  587. getting salvation for free, right?

  588. I'm trying to help them understand why they need that

  589. salvation, why they need Christ, and for me to just get somebody

  590. from point A to point B shake their hand and and sign their

  591. name so that we can say that we let another person to Christ.

  592. It's exactly what he said. It's criminal.

  593. You're sending people to hell because they're walking away

  594. with an assurance of salvation when they didn't even get saved

  595. because they did not address their sin.

  596. They didn't address the sin nature.

  597. They didn't address the fact that they needed a Savior

  598. because they are a Sinner. Just believing in Christ and

  599. just believing that he died and rose again is not.

  600. That's the faith side of it. There has to be the repentance

  601. side of it as well. So a major goal of so winning is

  602. to help people see that they are lost sinners.

  603. And many times, and I've told my wife this often when I've, when

  604. I've talked to somebody, you've got to get somebody lost before

  605. you can get them saved, right? Many times that's the case.

  606. People have got to understand that they're lost before they

  607. can be saved if they think of themselves as well.

  608. I'm a pretty good person and I think I've got a pretty good

  609. chance of getting to heaven. They don't because they don't

  610. see themselves as lost. They don't see themselves as a

  611. Sinner that's deserving the punishment for their sin.

  612. So many times you have to get somebody lost before you can get

  613. them saved. But when they see themselves in

  614. that condition, they'll realize very, very easily that they need

  615. Christ. So we have to take the time to

  616. explain what sin is according to God's definition, because most

  617. people think of sin as either something small.

  618. And here's a few examples that he gives.

  619. I've talked to people in, in all of these situations, A Buddhist

  620. who thinks that sin is stepping on an Ant or some is, you know,

  621. big things like murder. As long as I haven't murdered

  622. somebody, I mean, certainly I'm not as bad as that guy and

  623. certainly God's going to let me into heaven.

  624. I haven't killed anybody, right? And it's, it's this idea of good

  625. works on one side, bad works on the other side.

  626. And as long as your good works outweigh your bad works is going

  627. to let you in. And as long as you don't have

  628. anything heavy like murder or adultery or those kind of

  629. things, then then God's going to let you into heaven, right?

  630. That's not the way it works. You put one sin on there.

  631. It's enough to tip the whole balance, the opposite direction,

  632. and all of your good works cannot do anything against one

  633. sin. That's what people have to

  634. understand. And we've all, most of you have

  635. come to that conclusion yourselves.

  636. But Hindus typically think of sin only in those terms, big

  637. things. They'll admit that they're

  638. sinners in a vague way, but typically they don't mean by

  639. this that they're completely unrighteous before God, that

  640. they're not good, and if they're deserving of God's judgment.

  641. Of course, Brother Cloud is the one who put this together.

  642. He deals with the, the Hindus all the time.

  643. And that's exactly what it is. It's, it's this idea that I'm

  644. not that bad. Well, you are that bad in God's

  645. eyes. You are.

  646. So I must look to the Holy Spirit to accomplish the

  647. supernatural work of bringing conviction to the heart of the

  648. Sinner and making him guilty before God.

  649. John chapter 16 and verse 8. I don't think I had anybody look

    John 16 chapter mention

  650. at that one, did I? All right, somebody want to look

  651. it up? We'll just, we only have a

  652. couple left. So somebody just want to all

  653. right, Charlie, you can look it up.

  654. Look up John 16 and verse 8, and then I'll get a couple more

  655. people to read. Just raise your hand if you'd

  656. like to, if you haven't done it yet.

  657. Anybody all right, Trey? Psalm 2214 through 16.

  658. Jackson, John 1916 through 18. We'll finish.

  659. We'll finish this, this point out.

  660. Psalm 2218. Somebody all right?

  661. Riley Matthew 2735 But Gary, Miss Cindy.

  662. All right, whoever's who did I just give Psalm 2218 to?

  663. To who? OK, I'm going to give you a

  664. different 1. Matthew 2746.

  665. John 1928 Anybody. Miss Cindy, did I give you that

  666. one? What did I give you, Brother?

  667. Gary. OK, who's got Matthew 2735?

  668. That's the one you had. OK.

  669. So Miss Cindy. Matthew 2746.

  670. John 1928. All right, Rebecca.

  671. Matthew 2739 and 41 through 43, Lydia and then Matthew 2736.

  672. I know it's putting a lot of you in the same passage, but all

  673. right, Daniel, Matthew 2736. All right.

  674. And then let me have everybody turn over to Psalm 22.

  675. Psalm 22. Basically what we're going to

  676. look at here is the prophecy and the fulfillment of that prophecy

  677. all in Jesus Christ. So to, to, to just take a quick

  678. step back, we're talking about what is the gospel in the first

  679. part of that is that Christ died for our sins according to the

  680. Scriptures. Not only did he die for our

  681. sins, but according to the scriptures.

  682. So it was Christ that died. He died for our sins and he died

  683. according to the scriptures. And that refers to the amazing

  684. prophecies that the Bible describes about his death and in

  685. great detail it describes it. And really, Psalm 22 is, is by

  686. far the most prophetic chapter in the Old Testament.

  687. But there's many, many places that mention these things.

  688. But #1 the Scripture prophesied that Jesus would die by

  689. crucifixion. And let's all look at Psalm 22

  690. verse #14 I am poured out like water, and all my bones are out

  691. of joint. My heart is like wax.

  692. It is melted in the midst of my bowels.

  693. My strength is dried up like a pot shirt, and my tongue

  694. cleaveth to my jaws. And Thou has brought me into the

  695. dust of death, for dogs have compassed me, the assembly of

  696. the wicked have enclosed me. They pierced my hands and my

  697. feet. Let's have somebody read John

  698. 1916 through 18 Jesus, and let him away.

  699. And he bearing His cross, went forth into a place called the

  700. place of His skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha,

  701. where they crucified him and two other with him on either side,

  702. one and Jesus in the midst. OK, now here's the interesting

  703. thing. What did, what's being described

  704. there in 1415 and 16 in Psalm 22 is a crucifixion.

  705. But this was before crucifixion had even been invented, when

  706. David wrote this. Don't even know if David knew

  707. what he was writing about when he wrote it, but he was writing

  708. under the inspiration of God, right?

  709. God gave him the words to write and he wrote these things and

  710. then it was brought to pass in, in John chapter 19.

    John 19 chapter mention

  711. It was only practiced in the Roman Empire.

  712. It was written 1000 years before Christ came.

  713. And that's what they would do. They would nail their hands and

  714. their feet to the cross. And that's exactly what happened

  715. with Jesus. And we know that he said put

  716. your fingers in my hands, Put your fingers, you know, put your

  717. thrust your hand into my side. See He told Thomas that that he

  718. had hands in his in his feet and in his and I mean nail, nail

  719. prints in his hands and in his feet because of that.

  720. And there was it was all prophesied in Psalm 22.

  721. The scripture also prophesied. This is going on to the next

  722. page page 22 that the soldiers would gamble for Jesus robe at

  723. the foot of the cross. Verse 18 of Psalm 22.

  724. They part my garments among them and cast lots upon my vesture.

  725. The soldiers did that while Jesus was still on the cross,

  726. while he was still suffering. Matthew 2735.

  727. OK, So what we're saying here, what what the Bible is saying

  728. there is it's referring back to this passage.

  729. So you know that this passage is not talking about just David or

  730. it's not just David talking about himself.

  731. He said as was prophesied, right, which is very, very

  732. interesting. Matthew 27 is mostly where we're

  733. at with these fulfillment of the prophecies.

  734. But we know that Matthew, Mark, Luke and John all talk about

  735. those things just centers there in Matthew because obviously you

  736. could jump around. You can put you can do it on

  737. just about every book. Not every book mentions

  738. everything, but we're just looking at Matthew here.

  739. But all of them would would mention these things as well.

  740. But also then the Scripture prophesied the words that Jesus

  741. spoke from the cross, Psalm 22 and verse number one.

  742. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

  743. Why aren't there all so far from helping me and from the words of

  744. my roaring Matthew 2746? Right, the Scriptures also

  745. prophesied that Jesus would thirst.

  746. Verse 15 we read this, my strength is dried up like a pot

  747. shirt, and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws, and thou hast brought

  748. me into the dust of death. John chapter 19 and verse 28.

    John 19 chapter mention

  749. After this Jesus, knowing that all things were now

  750. accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, sayeth I

  751. thirst. OK, The Scripture prophesied

  752. that people would mock him. Verse 6 But I am a worm and no

  753. man, a reproach of men, and despised of the people all day

  754. that see me laugh me to scorn. They shoot out the lip, they

  755. shake the head, saying He trusted on the Lord that he

  756. would deliver him, let him deliver him, seeing he delighted

  757. in him. All right, let's look at this

  758. one. Matthew 2739 and then 41 through

  759. 43. OK, they mocked him and almost,

  760. almost the exact phrases and the exact quotes that are being used

  761. there. It's a definite fulfillment of

  762. the prophecy there. And then also the Scripture

  763. prophesied that people would sit and stare at him.

  764. Verse 17, I may tell all my bones, they look and stare upon

  765. me. Matthew 2736.

  766. Who has that one? OK, yeah, that's one.

  767. John talks about the exact same thing.

  768. They just they they sat there and stared at him.

  769. All of these things are prophecies that were fulfilled.

  770. I think I forgot Charlie, didn't I?

  771. You have John 16-8. We need a microphone.

  772. Let's get these passed around. Who's got them?

  773. All right. Yeah, give him that one.

  774. There we go, John, 16/8. And he is come He will reprove

  775. the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.

  776. OK, so that goes back to what we talked about before.

  777. All of this has to be a work that the Holy Spirit does,

  778. right? The Holy Spirit convicts us and

  779. and by the way, that's the only thing that the Holy Spirit does

  780. for somebody that's not saved. There is no comfort of the Holy

  781. Spirit. There is no leading you in

  782. guiding you in your life if you're not saved.

  783. The Holy Spirit does one thing in the life of somebody that's

  784. not saved and that's to convict them of their need for Christ.

  785. That's it, that's it. He does a lot of things for

  786. those who are saved. But when he comes, the Bible

  787. says he'll reprove the world of sin and of righteousness and of

  788. judgment. And that's exactly what the Holy

  789. Spirit does for somebody who is not saved.

  790. So we're going to stop there for tonight.

  791. But the three major parts to the gospel of Christ, he died for

  792. our sins according to the Scriptures.

  793. And of course, that's a huge part of, of why of the gospel

  794. that he died because I'm a Sinner.

  795. If I had never sinned, Jesus never would have had to die.

  796. He died. It was Christ.

  797. Why did he die for my sins? And he died according to the

  798. Scriptures, everything that happened in the story of the

  799. crucifixion. And by the way, all the, all the

  800. accounts in the Gospel all line up and match each other.

  801. They're complementary to each other, but not only that, they

  802. were all fulfillment of prophecy.

  803. So we'll talk about his burial and his resurrection and then a

  804. few other things next week. I've got some things to add to

  805. it that I think will be an interesting study, but I don't

  806. want to get into it tonight. Otherwise we'll be here for a

  807. while longer. So we'll stop there and have a

  808. word of prayer and then we'll be done.

  809. Let's pray. Father, again, we thank you so

  810. much for your goodness to us. Thank you for the opportunity we

  811. have to be here tonight. And God, I do pray that you

  812. would give us the opportunity to put this into practice and and

  813. lead folks to Christ. And I pray that you to give us

  814. the boldness to do that. The time is short.

  815. We don't know when you're coming back, but it sure seems like

  816. it'll be soon. And I pray that will be God as

  817. as John said at the very end of Revelation.

  818. Even so, come Lord Jesus, I pray that you would and God, I pray

  819. that it would be be soon. But what's the time that we have

  820. left? I pray that you'd help us to be

  821. bold witnesses for you and that we'd share the gospel with every

  822. opportunity that we have. Thank you again for all you do

  823. for us in Jesus name, Amen. Let's stand.

  824. We'll close in our.
