  1. Good morning. Good to see you all this

  2. morning, Luke. Chapter 23 is where we're going

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  3. to start and we're going to be bouncing around to a lot of

  4. passages this morning, so hopefully you can keep up as we.

  5. Go through those, I hope. You have a good week.

  6. We we were busy at work this week.

  7. But I I had a problem this morning.

  8. I haven't been able to run for like the last six or seven

  9. weeks. Not that I that not that I'm

  10. super diligent about it anyways, but it at least it at least

  11. keeps me. A little bit fit.

  12. For some of the Spartan races and things we were doing.

  13. But the problem I had this morning is I haven't been able

  14. to run and I woke. Up or I put this.

  15. Shirt on this morning and I think this button shrunk so I'm

  16. going to have to. Have to figure out what's.

  17. Going on, I'm afraid to put the rest of my shirts on.

  18. They might have shrunk too. So.

  19. Anyways, Luke chapter. 23 is where we're going to be.

  20. We are on lesson #6 Mountain number Six.

  21. And remember this series we're doing mountains and valleys in

  22. the Bible in the mountains are meant to be an inspiration to

  23. us. So a lot of encouragement.

  24. A lot of helps for. Us and when we get to the

  25. valleys, which will be after next week, we're going to start

  26. talking about some of the valleys which are meant to be a

  27. place of instruction for us. So a little bit more

  28. instructional teaching, maybe some some helps on maybe things

  29. that we're dealing with in our lives and we need to to work on

  30. and so. That's what the valleys will be.

  31. But. We got two more mountains before

  32. we get to that. And this morning in Luke chapter

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  33. 23, we are going to talk about Mount Calvary, the Mount of

  34. Provisions. So very, very exciting mountain

  35. for us, probably one of the most important ones, I shouldn't say

  36. one of probably the most important one that we will talk

  37. about and what. Jesus Christ did for us there.

  38. On Calvary but Luke chapter 23 I'm going to start.

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  39. The whole passage is about. Christ going to the cross, but

  40. we'll start in verse 3033 and when they were come to the.

  41. Place which is called Calvary. There they.

  42. Crucified him and the malefactors, one on the right

  43. hand and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, Father, forgive

  44. them, for they know not what they do.

  45. And they parted his raiment and cast lots.

  46. And the people stood beholding, and the rulers also with them.

  47. Derided him saying He saved others, let him save himself.

  48. If he be. Christ the chosen of God, which

  49. I think is very interesting. These are the the rulers.

  50. This is not the Romans. This is the.

  51. Jewish leaders, The chief priests.

  52. Mocking and ridiculing God. And you know what?

  53. The fact that they think he is a blasphemer, calling himself God

  54. when he is not. I it's probably the proper

  55. reaction. OK, save yourself if you're God.

  56. They did not think he was the Messiah.

  57. They refused to to accept. That.

  58. But anyways, that's the response they had and verse 36 And the

  59. soldiers also mocked him, coming to him and offering him vinegar

  60. and saying if thou be the king of the Jews.

  61. Save. Thyself and a superscription

  62. also was written over him in letters Greek and Latin and

  63. Hebrew. This is the king of the Jews,

  64. and this passage doesn't record it, but one of the.

  65. Other gospels says that the. The chief priest came and said,

  66. don't say that he's the king of the Jews.

  67. Say he said he's the king of the Jews and and, Herod said.

  68. Our pilot said what I wrote, that's what.

  69. We're leaving it as and he and he left.

  70. It at that so. But this is the king of the

  71. Jews. And then this then the the

  72. passage goes on talking about the the one thief that was

  73. hanged with him that ends up in paradise.

  74. But anyways, Mount Calvary, I wanted to read those verses and

  75. we probably won't be back in Luke chapter 23, but we're going

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  76. to be all over the Bible looking at different prophecies and

  77. things about Calvary and and the coming crucifixion of Jesus

  78. Christ. But let's pray.

  79. And then we'll get right into this lesson.

  80. Father, I thank you for this day you've given us.

  81. Thank you for the opportunity again that we have to open your

  82. word. God, I thank you.

  83. For the sacrifice of Christ. On on Mount Calvary, God and

  84. what it means to us. It's changed our lives.

  85. It's changed our generations. And so, God, I thank you for it,

  86. and we praise you for. It and God I pray.

  87. As we look at it this morning, just be a reminder.

  88. Of the great sacrifice that you gave of yourself for us.

  89. And God, I just thank you again for.

  90. It pray that you bless. This time we have together, in

  91. Jesus name I pray. Amen, Calvary.

  92. Is also called Golgotha. And does anybody remember?

  93. What that means? What is Golgotha?

  94. The place of the skull? Place of the skull.

  95. And we're not told in the Bible exactly where this is, and I

  96. believe the reason for not knowing exactly.

  97. Where it is. Now you have in the Gospels.

  98. Very pretty clear. Description of where it is.

  99. I'm going to look at this here in just a second, but I don't

  100. think. God tells us exactly.

  101. Where it is because he knows man's heart.

  102. What's the first thing man would do?

  103. They'd go build something on it and worship that place instead

  104. of worshiping the one that was crucified.

  105. At that place. And so we're not told.

  106. Exactly where it's at, but we are.

  107. Told some pretty some specifics about it and so in Hebrews

    Hebrews 13:12

  108. chapter 13 verse 12, I'm not going to.

  109. Read these verses, but you. Can write them down if you would

  110. like, but Hebrews chapter 13 verse 12.

    Hebrews 13:12

  111. Tells us that this site had to be outside the city gate now.

  112. Remember in the Old Testament when they have the scapegoat?

  113. They would take that scapegoat outside.

  114. The city gates. And so that was, remember, we

  115. talked. About that was a picture of

  116. what? Was going to happen with Christ

  117. and so it was very clear and Hebrews even tells us that it.

  118. Had to be outside the city gate. John chapter 19 and verse 20.

    John 19 chapter mention

  119. Tells us it had to be. Near the city, Matthew chapter

    Matthew 27:39

  120. 27 verse 39 says it had to be near a road or a thoroughfare

  121. upon which people traveled, and then John chapter 19, verse 41.

    John 19:41

  122. Tells us it. Had to be in the vicinity of a

  123. garden or a tomb area. Now why is that important?

  124. Because. Calvary or where we we believe

  125. Calvary was, fits all those descriptions.

  126. Now there's a couple places that do that and I'm not going to go

  127. through. A description.

  128. Of all this, I'm not going to go through the arguments on it

  129. Pastor did a whole video on it when we.

  130. Did Bible geography had? PowerPoints and everything.

  131. I would encourage you to go back and look at that.

  132. Because there are a lot of people, Baptists on both sides.

  133. Some believe. It's a place called Gordon.

  134. 'S tomb and then some. Believe it's at the place of the

  135. Church of the Holy Sepulchre, which is the the Catholics.

  136. Built the church on top. Of this other site.

  137. Thought to be actual Mount Calvary.

  138. Now, the Gordon's Tomb very quickly because mostly because

  139. it. Looks like a skull.

  140. So in your Easter pictures, in your Sunday.

  141. School. Lessons that mountain that you

  142. see that kind of. Looks like the two eyes.

  143. And the and the nose. Of a skull that's.

  144. Gordon's tomb and I I I was studying this and I texted

  145. pastor and I said was Gordon's tomb wasn't the place that you

  146. that when he because he went to the Holy Land.

  147. He said no, almost almost for sure it's not Gordon's tomb.

  148. He said a Gordon was. A British.

  149. Explorer and when he got there they saw this and said wow that.

  150. Looks like a skull. That's got to be.

  151. The place and that's kind of how they.

  152. Decided that's the place of. Calvary and then they.

  153. Tried to make everything fit. Around that.

  154. Because that's what they decided.

  155. It was, and believe it or not. There's a Baptist association.

  156. That believes Gordon's tomb is the place of.

  157. Calvary so they are there. In Israel, getting tourists to

  158. come to it and trying to make a case.

  159. For it but but but I was. Talking to pastor, I've not been

  160. there, but he said almost, almost certainly that is not

  161. the. Place of Calvary.

  162. So which one is it? And he said the study that I've

  163. done and based on his Bible geography lesson and I do agree

  164. with him. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre

  165. that is built on. Built there in.

  166. Israel is probably the place. Of Calvary and like I said, I'm

  167. not going to go into all the reasons why, but a couple of the

  168. specific reasons is within 100 with within. 70 years of Christ

  169. dying. A temple was built to Venus in

  170. the place. Where?

  171. Where the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

  172. Is now a temple was built to Venus to.

  173. Desecrate this place. Why would they want to desecrate

  174. it? It's only 70.

  175. Years after Christ died. They know.

  176. Where Christ? Where this happened?

  177. And and, and so they built this temple.

  178. And then later when Constantine comes and he is emperor, his mom

  179. has. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre

  180. built. In the place of that, Temples of

  181. Venus tears that down and builds.

  182. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre still, because it was such a.

  183. Venerated place, so very likely. And that's all.

  184. I'll say about that, but very likely the Church of the Holy.

  185. Sepulchre, even though we don't agree with them.

  186. Is is where Calvary? Was at and now they've started

  187. excavating underneath the church and they've actually found, you

  188. know, well near. The church they've also.

  189. They've excavated and found garden area.

  190. Because at that up to. That time it was.

  191. Just a quarry. And So what they believe.

  192. Happened is these experts believe that this quarry was.

  193. Dug and instead of just wasting the land they filled it back in

  194. with dirt and it became a garden or a farming area and they also

  195. had tombs all the way around it. Go back to his Bible.

  196. Geography lesson and he explains that.

  197. Pretty. Well, but anyways, the Bible

  198. doesn't tell us which one it is. And like I said before, I think

  199. for good reason. Because exactly what happened,

  200. God knew what happened. They'd go build a church or a.

  201. An idol on top of it and start worshipping that place instead

  202. of worshipping what Christ did in that.

  203. Place all right so. Let's get into this lesson.

  204. This Mount Calvary was a place of sovereign design, and we've

  205. talked about this a few times, but go to Revelation chapter 13

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  206. and verse 8. Revelation 13/8.

  207. This was a place of. Sovereign Design.

  208. Remember I mentioned this a couple weeks ago.

  209. God did not create Adam and Eve put them in the garden.

  210. Satan comes and tempts them. They fall and then God said.

  211. Oh, oh, I've got to. Redeem them somehow.

  212. Hebrews chapter 13, verse 8 tells us when this plan for

    Hebrews 13:8

  213. redemption was made. And all that dwell upon the

  214. earth shall worship him whose names are not written in the

  215. book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation.

  216. Of the world so. From the very beginning of

  217. eternity, God had this plan for redemption.

  218. Before Adam and Eve ever sinned before, before they even knew

  219. that that was going to be a problem, God had planned this

  220. redemption and he and Revelation chapter 13 tells us, but this

    Revelation 13 chapter mention

  221. was this was planned and prepared by God from eternity

  222. past God. Foresaw, like I said.

  223. Long before Adam and Eve sinned, long before Satan fell from

  224. heaven and ended up here on this earth to be the tempter.

  225. Long before any of that, God had this plan for redemption go to.

  226. Acts Chapter. Two, I told you we're going to

  227. be flipping around a lot. If you can't get there in time,

  228. just write them down. I'll read them and but I'm not

  229. going to wait real long in between.

  230. Passages but Acts chapter. Two verse 2023.

  231. Peter says this about. The crucifixion of Christ, Acts

  232. 223 Him, Christ being delivered by the determinate counsel and

  233. for knowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have

  234. crucified and slain. And what Peter's saying is this,

  235. This is not your doing. This is the determinate counsel

  236. and foreknowledge. Of God has has made.

  237. All this come to this specific time in history and you just

  238. happen to be the ones that. Are about to crucify Christ.

  239. By wicked hands you have crucified and slain the Christ.

  240. But. It was, but it was.

  241. Planned with the from the foreknowledge.

  242. Of God the Father, so it was. God foresaw.

  243. What what needed to happen and what was coming.

  244. But he also formed this Mount Calvary.

  245. Think about it. I was reading.

  246. Somebody talking about this? Who?

  247. Believes that Gordon's tomb. Was the was the place of of

  248. Christ's crucifixion. And I'll just read, read to you

  249. what he says. God not only foresaw the need,

  250. he formed the mountain when the rivers and oceans were carved

  251. out and the mountains of the earth.

  252. Were heaped up, God saw Calvary God deliberately.

  253. Chose to shape a small skull shaped promontory.

  254. Outside of what would? Become the city of Jerusalem all

  255. the time, knowing that there his son must die to redeem mankind.

  256. So he's saying this Gordon's tomb.

  257. That looks like the shape of the skull.

  258. When the mountains were formed and the.

  259. Waters receded back. God formed that knowing his Son

  260. would come not to die on that mountain.

  261. Now if we don't believe that Gordon's tomb is the place of

  262. Mount Calvary, then then what do we say?

  263. Well, and by the way, if you believe, I don't know if

  264. anybody's done enough research to to know one way or the other.

  265. But if you believe it. Is Gordon's tomb.

  266. I'm not saying you're wrong, I don't know either.

  267. We're just These are the. Arguments, and more likely it.

  268. Church of the Holy Sepulchre is probably the accurate.

  269. One but. Like I said, the Bible.

  270. Doesn't tell us. So does it really matter?

  271. No, what matters. Is that Christ did die.

  272. On Calvary, but having with this in mind, God formed this

  273. mountain. How about this?

  274. So when pastor did his Bible geography?

  275. Lesson. Where Christ was actually

  276. crucified was a. Little Mountain, and I don't

  277. believe it was actually a mountain like we saw with Mount

  278. Sinai or any of those. It was a little hill that Christ

  279. was crucified on. And what they believe happened.

  280. Is they were. Hewing out this quarry using the

  281. stone and everything else, and there was a section of rock in

  282. there that was. Really poor rock, so they left

  283. it there. And that eventually.

  284. Was what Christ was crucified? On and they've dug underneath

  285. the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and they see that

  286. Little Rock outcropping. And so with that in mind, it's

  287. even more than just the waters, you know, push the stone around

  288. and that's what was left. It's even more of a.

  289. Of the Providence of God. That he had these men.

  290. Take this quarry all the way down.

  291. And leave just this one. Spot outside the city.

  292. Near a garden tomb or near a garden where there are tombs and

  293. all the things that. Fit the prophecy.

  294. Of God, but he used mankind to do it, to make it.

  295. So anyways, God. Formed this, though he knew

  296. exactly what was going to happen.

  297. But he also foretold. It and we see all of that all.

  298. The way through the old. Testament and remember when

  299. we're talking about. The shadows of Christ.

  300. In the Old Testament, the pictures and the types.

  301. That you have to. Look at the Old Testament.

  302. Through the through the. Lens that of.

  303. Christ, So what? We said.

  304. Then is. Christ is the key.

  305. That unlocks the Old Testament. If you don't look at through

  306. that lens, it doesn't make sense.

  307. It's a lot of weird rituals, a lot of weird sacrifices.

  308. Happening, but when you look at it through the lens of.

  309. Christ, that this is all. Prophecy pointing to Christ.

  310. It makes sense. And this is what Doctor AT

  311. Pearson says about the Old Testament from the Hour of Abel.

  312. 'S altar. Fire down to the.

  313. Last Passover of the. Passion Week pointing as with a

  314. flaming fingery finger. To Calvary's cross.

  315. We see the emergence of 1000 lines of prophecy and indirect

  316. forecast, as in one burning focal point of dazzling glory.

  317. And that's exactly what the Old Testament is.

  318. Yes, it's law. For for Israel, yes, it's.

  319. The 10 commandments. That we see, yes.

  320. It's the prophecy of what? Was going to happen to Israel in

  321. Jeremiah and Isaiah and and some of the.

  322. Other prophets, but what it? Is, is it's pointing to the

  323. coming Messiah and then not just his birth, but pointing to what

  324. would happen when he died on the cross.

  325. And so we see that in in many, many places in the Old

  326. Testament, Genesis chapter 22, that's Isaac on Mount Sinai

    Genesis 22 chapter mention

  327. being sacrificed. Exodus chapter 12, Psalm chapter

Exodus 12 chapter mention Psalms 22 chapter mention

  328. 22. And there's other psalms that

  329. are that are messianic Psalms. Isaiah 53 Obvious prophecy of

  330. what was. Going to happen with Christ and

  331. and the redemption of mankind. But Matthew even tells us in

  332. Matthew chapter 26. But all this was done that the.

    Matthew 26 chapter mention

  333. Scriptures of the. Prophets the Old Testament might

  334. be fulfilled. So all this was done.

  335. Everything in the in the New Testament was done all.

  336. The But the Gospels record for us.

  337. All that happened to Christ, Matthew says, was.

  338. Done that the. Scriptures of the Prophets.

  339. Might be fulfilled, so this was. Definitely a place of.

  340. Sovereign design. This was not.

  341. This was not man's doing. Man was.

  342. Used to do it, but this was God's.

  343. Design from the foundation of the.

  344. World that Christ would come. And be the sacrifice for

  345. mankind. So it was a place of sovereign

  346. design, but it was also. A place of the.

  347. Savior's doing, going right along with that.

  348. This was not man. That, that that was.

  349. Deciding the fate. Of Jesus Christ.

  350. Jesus did this. Turn to John chapter 10, if you

    John 10 chapter mention

  351. will, John chapter 10, and we see.

    John 10 chapter mention

  352. Everything with the with the priests.

  353. On the Day of Atonement, all of that is pointing to Jesus Christ

  354. as as the final. High Priest Leviticus.

    Leviticus 16 chapter mention

  355. Chapter 16 and verse 17. Tells us that the high.

  356. Priest came into the. Holy of Holies.

  357. With how many people? How many people were with him

  358. when he went into the holy of holies that one day a year?

  359. How many? Just himself?

  360. Right, he was by himself. Leviticus chapter 16.

    Leviticus 16 chapter mention

  361. I won't read it but. Verse 17 tells.

  362. Us that he came in on the Day of Atonement alone.

  363. For the sacrifice of the Jewish people.

  364. And in John chapter 10 it tells us the same thing.

    John 10 chapter mention

  365. Christ comes in alone by himself to make the final sacrifice for

  366. mankind, and he says this in verse 17.

  367. John chapter 10, verse 17. Therefore doth my Father love.

    John 10:17

  368. Me because? I lay down my life that I might

  369. take it again, no. Man taketh it from me.

  370. But I lay it down of myself. I have power.

  371. To lay it down and I have power to take it again.

  372. This commandment have I received of my father, which is an

  373. interesting statement. This commandment of what lay

  374. down your life and take it up again was given to him by the

  375. Father. That's interesting statement,

  376. but the point here is that nobody took.

  377. The life of Jesus Christ it was his doing, he.

  378. Decided when and where and how and he gave his life and, and

  379. I'll say this again, but in the in the garden of Gethsemane,

  380. when Christ. Was.

  381. Praying to his. Father with the great sweat, as

  382. it were, great drops of blood. Asking for this cup to pass.

  383. It was not the the IT was not. The the the.

  384. Torture that he would go through and the pain that he would go.

  385. That's not what he was asking to pass.

  386. He was asking that if there was. Any other way?

  387. For mankind to be redeemed. Back to the Father, let's do it.

  388. That way I don't want to have sin come between me and the

  389. Father. It had never happened in in, in

  390. in in all of eternity. Christ and the Father had always

  391. been one. They'd never been separated by

  392. sin like we are. To God.

  393. When and we needed to be redeemed, that was never the

  394. case with Christ and the Father. And now he's he knows these are

  395. the last minutes before his crucifixion.

  396. He's going to take on the sin of all mankind, and he's asking the

  397. Father if there's any way we can make do this another way.

  398. Let's do that because of the. Separation that's going to

  399. happen and but not my will but thine be done and so that that

  400. happens and that that agony. That Christ goes through is.

  401. Is much more than the pain, the physical pain that.

  402. Was that was put. On him it was the IT was the

  403. spiritual pain of the Father turning his back on him.

  404. That's one of the sayings on the cross.

  405. My God, my God, why has thou forsaken me?

  406. Why have you turned your back on me?

  407. He knew the answer because He had the sin of mankind on him,

  408. all of all mankind. But Jesus says in John chapter

    John 10:11

  409. 10 verse 11 I am. The Good Shepherd The Good

  410. Shepherd giveth his life. For the sheep, the Good

  411. Shepherd, his life isn't taken. He gives it.

  412. It's 100. Percent his choice and he.

  413. Chose to give his life for us. But it's also a vital work that

  414. the Savior does. And John chapter 3, you're not

    John 3 chapter mention

  415. far from there. Go to John chapter 3.

    John 3 chapter mention

  416. We look at verse 14 and 15, John 314 and 15.

  417. Because we talked about this. Before and we overlap and and,

  418. you know, all of these kind of have the same atone to them

  419. these these mountains that we're looking at.

  420. But without Christ's sacrifice on Calvary, there could.

  421. Be no hope for mankind, and we see that in John 314.

  422. Bible says and as Moses. Lifted up the serpent in the

  423. wilderness, even. So must the son of.

  424. Man. Be lifted up that whosoever.

  425. Believeth in him should not perish, but have.

  426. Eternal life. Remember the story?

  427. Of Moses when he makes. This brazen serpent, the

  428. serpent. Had to be lifted up for man to.

  429. See right, that was the. Command to Moses lifted up and

  430. when people. Look on it, they'll be.

  431. Saved if Moses had said, all right, then I'm just going to

  432. walk around with it and. It had to be lifted.

  433. Up for all of them to see they were dying and and it says that

  434. in John 3 too. This is Jesus Christ.

  435. As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, the Son of

  436. Man must be lifted up so man can look on him and and not perish,

  437. but have eternal life. So it was a vital.

  438. Work and. That's all we'll say.

  439. About that for now, but. It was also a.

  440. Victorious work again in John go to chapter 19, John chapter 19

    John 19 chapter mention

  441. and verse. 30. Sunday school is early in the

  442. morning and it's about to get earlier on January 1st.

  443. So I got to keep. You flipping to keep you awake

  444. All right John chapter 19 and verse 30.

    John 19 chapter mention

  445. The coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but the cinnamon rolls are are

  446. weighing heavy. John chapter 19 and verse 30

    John 19 chapter mention

  447. when Jesus. Therefore, had received the.

  448. Vinegar, he said it is finished, and he bowed his head and gave

  449. up. The ghost was a victorious work.

  450. Now we we hear songs about this. There's one in particular when

  451. man sinned in the garden that sinned that sacrifices could not

  452. take care of any more than Jesus Christ came and then it talks

  453. about that he's he's he's in the grave.

  454. Death thinks it has one, but he Could you imagine what the

  455. disciples? Not just the 12 disciples, but

  456. all the disciples were that followed Christ were going

  457. through for those three days. This person.

  458. That they followed, that they. Thought was the Messiah that

  459. promised them he was going to. What they thought was.

  460. Build a Kingdom and be be the one that reigned and they were

  461. all going to be in this Kingdom. They didn't understand that it

  462. wasn't earthly. But they thought he was.

  463. He was the. One they were going to follow

  464. till they died and now all of a sudden he's.

  465. Dead the the high priests. Have won.

  466. Satan has one. Rome has has defeated this

  467. Messiah that they're following. I can only imagine what they're

  468. thinking in their minds for these three days.

  469. We have the benefit of hindsight.

  470. OK, Just wait. He's he's going to resurrect.

  471. This can be the most powerful thing that you've ever seen.

  472. But for those three days. Even Thomas, one of his.

  473. One of his closest followers. He's doubting it.

  474. He doesn't. Believe that there there's any.

  475. Possibility that this. Christ that they're following is

  476. going to come back from the grave.

  477. But I think the whole world, including Satan, I think only

  478. the Father knew what was actually coming.

  479. But even Satan, I believe, thought he had won.

  480. Why would he kill Christ? Why would he?

  481. Why would? He make that happen.

  482. If he didn't think it was going to make him victorious,

  483. certainly he wouldn't have done it thinking if I can keep him

  484. dead for three days, maybe he'll lose enough followers.

  485. But if after. That three days when he rests

  486. her act, it's going to be odd. I mean, he he certainly thought

  487. he had he had won. And then after three days.

  488. That's where we see this victorious work.

  489. Bible even tells us. That Christ went down with the

  490. keys of death and hell in his hand and and then he comes back

  491. victorious after three days and remember.

  492. We we just read it. I have power.

  493. To lay down my life and I have power.

  494. To, to, to take. It up again.

  495. God gave him, the Father gave him that.

  496. Power and after three days. Just long enough to make sure

  497. people knew. This was an actual death.

  498. Long enough for him to go and and take hell and death and the

  499. sting of death and and conquer that.

  500. Then he comes back. And he resurrects for us to.

  501. See, so that we know this definitely is the Messiah again

  502. that we've been following. Would this death, this sacrifice

  503. of Christ on the. Cross be enough and when he

  504. resurrects from the dead we know it's enough, and the Bible even

  505. tells us in Hebrews. That he takes the blood to the.

  506. Father, and the Father is. Pleased with that sacrifice.

  507. What a. What an.

  508. Amazing thing. It's exciting.

  509. To talk about, but thirdly. The mount.

  510. Calvary is a place. For Sinners Deliverance and I'm

  511. going to spend just a few minutes.

  512. Here we we've. Just got a few minutes.

  513. Left, but this is. Exciting as well, but something

  514. maybe we don't always think about.

  515. You know the, the when we see Adam and Eve in the garden and

  516. they sin, they cover themselves with fig leaves.

  517. And we talked about this not that long ago, but we they cover

  518. themselves with fig leaves and what does God come down and do?

  519. What does he say to them? The fig leaves are not enough.

  520. I'm going to kill a lamb. Most likely.

  521. Kill a lamb and he makes clothes for them to wear because they

  522. need to be. Covered OK, so we.

  523. Talk about this often that. The blood of Christ is is the is

  524. the. Is enough for our sin, and it

  525. is. But the Bible's pretty.

  526. Clear. And we'll look at this in Isaiah

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  527. chapter 53 that we need to be cleansed and we need to be

  528. covered. And so there's. 2-2 pieces there

  529. and we're going. To look at them here in just a

  530. second. But first of all.

  531. The cleansing was provided. By the shed blood of.

  532. Christ and the Psalmist says this in Psalm chapter 51 and

    Psalms 51 chapter mention

  533. verse 7. Now we know this.

  534. Is David, because this is. When he is pouring out.

  535. His heart to God after. His sin with the Bathsheba and

  536. he says. Purge me with.

  537. Hyssop and I shall be clean. Wash me and I shall be.

  538. Whiter. Than snow.

  539. And we know these verses. We've memorized these verses,

  540. but what does he mean when he's saying?

  541. Purge me with hyssop. Did anybody have any any

  542. thoughts? You're not going to be wrong.

  543. OK so purge me. With hyssop and I shall be

  544. clean. Anybody.

  545. Anybody have any ideas on what that phrase means or what he's

  546. trying to say? Miss Taiwan?

  547. Was it like a stringent or? Something or something to clean

  548. up germs, like if someone had a bone or whatever.

  549. Yeah, so so. Remember when the Passover

  550. happens. They are supposed to take.

  551. Hyssop and and wipe that on the doorposts, right.

  552. So it's always in conjunction with blood.

  553. And then you also have do you remember when we talked about

  554. the two doves? Was it doves, the birds?

  555. I don't remember if it says doves or not, but.

  556. The birds. And they were supposed to kill

  557. the one. Bird really, really strange

  558. sacrifices, but this was a picture of of Christ's

  559. sacrifice. If you go back in and listen to

  560. what? We what we talked about with

  561. that, but. They would kill this one bird

  562. and then they. 'D take hyssop.

  563. And dip the. Blood of the of the dead bird on

  564. to the live. Bird and then they.

  565. Would set that bird free with the blood of the dead bird on

  566. it. Very interesting sacrifice.

  567. But hyssop is almost. Always in the Bible connected.

  568. With blood. So.

  569. So what is that? And I actually have it.

  570. I pulled something up on my phone.

  571. I'm going to read in just. A second, but I believe that

  572. this is what it's. Called and I had never heard of

  573. it. So I only only just in my study

  574. found this, but it's called a Let me see if I can mention

  575. pronounce the right metonymy. Anybody ever heard of that

  576. metonymy? OK, so this happens a lot in our

  577. own English language and here's what I'm autonomy is.

  578. Uh oh, it moved on me Where we at?

  579. Uh oh, it's gone, I think. All right, so.

  580. All right, it says. A metonymy.

  581. Is a rhetorical device. In which a.

  582. Word or phrase is used. As a substitute for another

  583. closely related. Or associated word or phrase.

  584. The word that replaces the initial concept is called a

  585. metonym. So this is metonymy is used in

  586. numerous written and spoken context, sometimes without even

  587. realizing it. So here's some examples.

  588. All right saying. The Oval Office will address.

  589. The nation tonight uses the Oval Office in place of.

  590. The president, right? Because the Oval.

  591. Office isn't going to talk, but everybody knows when you say.

  592. The Oval Office said. We know exactly what that means.

  593. That's an autonomy. OK.

  594. When we say please give me a hand, we're not asking.

  595. For your actual hand, we're. Asking for assistance, that's an

  596. autonomy. The phrase blood is thicker than

  597. water. Blood is talking about your

  598. family is is thicker than water, which is, you know, a friend or

  599. an acquaintance. So non familiar familial ties,

  600. but that's some autonomy it's using.

  601. A word that is. Known to mean something else,

  602. but you're using it in place of it.

  603. And there's tons and tons more examples.

  604. Let's see, I got a new. Ride or I got new.

  605. Wheels, right? Everybody knows that doesn't

  606. mean you came to church. With a set of wheels you came

  607. to. Church in a new vehicle, right?

  608. So those are metonymies, so. This I believe.

  609. Is a metonymy purge me. With.

  610. Hyssop and I shall be clean. And so Hebrews Chapter 9, verse

    Hebrews 9:22

  611. 22. I'll come back here to this in

  612. just a second, says and almost all things.

  613. Are by the law purged. With blood.

  614. What does Psalm 51 seven say? Purge me with hyssop so I

  615. believe. This metonymy is hyssop is

  616. blood. That's what the Bible's trying

  617. to. Show all the way through.

  618. And so when David's saying purge me with hyssop, he's not saying

  619. purge me with a with a plant, He's saying purge me with the

  620. blood of Christ and I will be clean.

  621. Wash me with that same blood and I'll be whiter than snow, which

  622. then we see that principle, we see that truth all over in the

  623. Bible that the blood cleanses us from all sin.

  624. And so. You could you?

  625. Could switch that hyssop. Out with blood.

  626. And say purge me with blood and I shall be clean.

  627. I'm autonomy in the Bible. I think that's very interesting.

  628. Because Hebrews. Chapter 922 tells us that

  629. without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin and

  630. so we need to be purged, cleaned.

  631. With the blood of Christ. So first of all.

  632. We're cleaned. With the blood of Christ.

  633. And then secondly, we're covered.

  634. By the blood of Christ, Hebrews chapter 4, verse. 13 You know

    Hebrews 4 chapter mention

  635. Hebrews. Chapter 4, Verse 12.

    Hebrews 4:12

  636. The Word of God is quick and powerful.

  637. And sharper than any 2 edged sword, piercing even to the

  638. dividing asunder of soul and spirit.

  639. And is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the

  640. hearts heart. But then.

  641. Hebrews chapter 4, verse. 13 tells us that all things are

    Hebrews 4 chapter mention

  642. naked and open unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.

  643. All right, So what? Does that mean when we say God

  644. sees what you're doing, you're not going to hide this from God?

  645. That's what it's talking about. Everything is open.

  646. Before the eyes of God. And so how then can a Sinner,

  647. Yes, our sins are cleansed. By the blood of Christ.

  648. But how does a Sinner then stand?

  649. Before God, because he covers. Our sins.

  650. And that's the example. Pastor always gives of the piece

  651. of paper with all your. Sins written on it, and then

  652. that's. Covered by the blood of Jesus.

  653. OK, so he it. Cleanses us from all sin.

  654. But it also covers us. And.

  655. Go to Isaiah chapter 60. One, this will be the last.

    Isaiah 60 chapter mention

  656. Well, I'll probably have. You go to one more passage, but

  657. it's right next to it. Isaiah chapter 53 but.

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  658. Isaiah chapter 61 and verse 10. It says this Isaiah 6110.

    Isaiah 61 chapter mention

  659. I will greatly. Rejoice in the Lord, my soul

  660. shall be joyful in my. God.

  661. OK, so why? For he hath clothed me with

  662. garments of salvation, and hath covered me with the robe of

  663. righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments,

  664. and as a bride adorneth herself with jewels.

  665. So this is now talking about covering us, not just the

  666. cleansing part, but the covering.

  667. Now go to Isaiah. Chapter 53.

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  668. I think this is where I've never really seen it as this, but I

  669. think it's very interesting. Isaiah 53, seven.

  670. Because why does I've always looked at this as a picture of

  671. how? Christ came to the cross, and I

  672. think it is that he came without a word, and we even see.

  673. That with the the gospel. Accounts he, they, they gave him

  674. ample opportunity to to defend himself and he doesn't say a

  675. word. In fact, some of the only words

  676. he says is I am, I am. I am who you're saying I am.

  677. Or accusing me of being. Yes, that's who I am.

  678. But Isaiah 53 verse. Seven says he was oppressed and

  679. he was a feeling afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth.

  680. He is brought as a. Lamb to the slaughter.

  681. OK, we have. Blood lamb to the slaughter and

  682. as a sheep. Before her shearers.

  683. Is dumb so he openeth not his mouth so I think it's.

  684. Definitely a picture of Christ. Not opening his mouth, but I

  685. also think we have two things here.

  686. A lamb to the slaughter. We have the blood.

  687. And a sheep. Before her shearers.

  688. They're going to. Make a covering with this.

  689. Wool and and I think it's. Very, very important that that

  690. these prophecies were fulfilled by Jesus Christ.

  691. Christ is. Seen as a lamb, that would be a

  692. lamb. Not a sheep, but a lamb

  693. spotless. Lamb that would be sacrificed.

  694. And then as a sheep. Whose wool would?

  695. Provide covering and I think. That goes back to.

  696. Adam and Eve, why it was so important that Christ covered

  697. them? He didn't douse them with blood

  698. when they sinned, He covered them with most likely a sheep's

  699. wool to to cover their nakedness.

  700. And so interesting there the covering we we often.

  701. Kind of overlook or or look past but.

  702. It's very important as as to what mankind needed, we needed,

  703. we needed cleansed and we needed covered from the nakedness that.

  704. We that we are before. God, our sin is open and and and

  705. naked. Before the eyes of.

  706. Him with whom we have to do. And I'll close with this very

  707. familiar song at. Calvary but.

  708. William Newell wrote it and he said this and I think this is

  709. the the encouragement that we get from Mount Calvary.

  710. The chorus says mercy. There was.

  711. Great and Grace was free. Pardon there was multiplied to

  712. me there. My burdened soul found liberty

  713. at Calvary. And that's the that's the

  714. exciting thing about Calvary. It's a It was a bloody picture

  715. of what Christ had to do for us. But there my burdened soul found

  716. liberty, and I, if you've. Accepted Christ as your Savior.

  717. You know that feeling. You know that experience of

  718. having your burdened soul find that liberty in Christ and I'll.

  719. Close with this, Luke. Chapter 23 we already.

    Luke 23 chapter mention

  720. Read it but verse 30. 3 and when they were come to the.

  721. Place which is called called Calvary.

  722. There they crucified him. And the malefactors, one on the

  723. right and one on the left. And Christ drank of that cup.

  724. That the father had. Given him without trying to

  725. trying to pass it off on anyone else.

  726. Or another way, he accepted the will of the Father.

  727. And we are still benefiting from that now, and we will be into

  728. eternity. We have everlasting life because

  729. of this Mount, Mount Calvary, the mountain of provision.

  730. All right, we'll have one last mountain next week and then

  731. we'll get into some valleys. But let's pray and we'll be

  732. dismissed. Father, I thank you for this day

  733. you've given us got to thank you for this church and this place

  734. that we can open your word and and preach it freely.

  735. And I got to thank you for the freedoms we have in this country

  736. to still do that and got. To pray as we.

  737. Think on these things that we've heard this morning now that you

  738. would just encourage us in the fact that.

  739. Your. Sacrifice on Calvary was enough

  740. and God we need nothing else when we stand.

  741. Before you, but the blood. Cleansing us and and the

  742. sacrifice that you made covering us and so that we know we are.

  743. Righteous before you got. To thank you for that fact,

  744. Thank you for that. That that.

  745. Experience that we've been able to have.

  746. The salvation of our souls. Thank you for the burdens that

  747. have been lifted off of us when we.

  748. Accept you as our Savior and I pray.

  749. That you be with this next hour. Fill Pastor with your power.

  750. As he preaches and that you'd open our hearts to accept what

  751. we need to hear. In Jesus name I pray.

  752. Amen.
