  1. Let's pray.

  2. Father, I praise you for your faithfulness to your people.

  3. ! I thank you for the precious souls that you've pulled together here by your providence to hear your word.

  4. I ask, Lord, that you will give us the gift of faith that we can see you by faith now and trust in your providence.

  5. We need the hope of your promise. We need Christ more than anything else in this life.

  6. Please do your work in our lives, Lord. We ask for your glory. And in Christ's name, amen.

  7. Today is a special day.

  8. Today is about death and life.

  9. When death touches us in this life, it's only natural that we would groan.

  10. Death has touched different ones of us in this life in different ways.

  11. We have sickness. We have brokenness.

  12. We have really hard news that we have to process.

  13. We have relationships that are very broken.

  14. And it's only natural to groan.

  15. What does that word groan mean?

  16. It's a deep, mournful sound uttered in pain, sorrow, and anguish.

  17. Has your soul groaned recently?

  18. 2 Corinthians 5.2 says that we groan in this tent, desiring to put on our heavenly dwelling.

  19. It's natural to groan while we're in this body and this life.

  20. So, beloved congregation of our Lord Jesus Christ and dear friends that are in earshot today,

  21. visitors that God brought you here in his perfect timing for his purpose.

  22. What I've been praying for this week is this,

  23. that by faith you would be able to latch on to your only hope.

  24. In life and in death, it's the only hope for a groaning soul like yours and like mine.

  25. That's what we get in our passage today.

  26. We have one of the most glorious promises of all of Scripture,

  27. given here and elsewhere, but maybe nowhere more clearly as right here.

  28. But what comes before this glorious promise

  29. are some of the greatest groanings anyone in the Scripture has breathed out.

  30. My first question for you is this,

  31. do you know what it feels like to groan without hope?

  32. Do you know what that feels like, to groan in your soul without hope?

  33. There are many sources of groaning, but our passage gives us three really clear right here.

  34. Let's see them together.

  35. And if you're familiar with Job,

  36. he's a man who's suffered in every way you can imagine on this earth.

  37. What he lays out in a really concise way, one for each verse,

  38. it's like three sharp barbed prongs poking through this suffering man.

  39. You could even say it's like a trident that speared him like a creature,

  40. being hunted by a spear.

  41. Look at what he says first in verse 19,

  42. relational suffering.

  43. All my close friends abhor me,

  44. and those whom I love have turned against me.

  45. To abhor.

  46. You can hear the root there.

  47. It means that his friends consider him now a horror.

  48. They have rejected him.

  49. He's detestable.

  50. He's been cast off.

  51. Those who were once close,

  52. they now loathe him and despise him.

  53. He's rejected.

  54. He's been abandoned.

  55. And talking with some of you, my dear friends, these weeks,

  56. I know some of you have felt deep rejection and abandonment in different times in your life,

  57. maybe even as a child.

  58. That's what Job is talking about.

  59. Some of you are suffering today,

  60. bleeding,

  61. relationally.

  62. Like Job, maybe there's one important relationship in your life right now that needs redeeming.

  63. Well, relational suffering is the first one,

  64. but there's two more.

  65. Look at verse 20.

  66. Next, it's physical suffering.

  67. He says,

  68. My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh.

  69. He's using poetic language to describe extreme thinness due to his muscles wasting away.

  70. A person who suffers for a long time experiences this.

  71. The muscles deteriorate.

  72. It describes a state where the bones are now visibly prominent under his skin.

  73. You see how this man is describing himself in the strongest terms possible.

  74. The physical suffering he's endured.

  75. And then he uses a phrase.

  76. He says next in verse 20,

  77. I have escaped,

  78. referring to death,

  79. by the skin of my teeth.

  80. Now,

  81. Now,

  82. in this clause,

  83. the author uses this word in Hebrew,

  84. And it literally means the bone on which your teeth are set.

  85. This bone right up here.

  86. And so some have interpreted this phrase to mean,

  87. I am left with only my skull.

  88. See what Job is saying?

  89. He said,

  90. I escaped death,

  91. but just barely.

  92. I'm still alive,

  93. but I'm like a talking skeleton.

  94. I've suffered so much.

  95. I've become horrifying.

  96. I'm the very picture of death.

  97. That's his physical suffering.

  98. In verse 3,

  99. I'm sorry,

  100. verse 21,

  101. he's describing physical torment and suffering.

  102. I know there are many here who have had bad news about illness and sickness and many reasons to stress lately.

  103. And some of you right now are on pain medicine and you're in constant pain in your body.

  104. It's death touching you while you're still alive.

  105. Some of you are used to not sleeping well.

  106. You can feel your ligaments,

  107. your muscles,

  108. your skin,

  109. or even your hair slowly deteriorating.

  110. And it's natural to grieve these physical losses that we suffer in this life.

  111. We groan with Job.

  112. Well,

  113. the third type of suffering is in verse 21.

  114. He's begging his friends who are giving him counsel.

  115. And he says,

  116. have pity on me,

  117. have pity on me,

  118. oh,

  119. you my friends.

  120. But he's not even focused on the friends.

  121. Look at what he says next in verse 21.

  122. For the hand of God has struck me.

  123. Verse 22,

  124. why do you persecute me as God does and are not satisfied with my flesh?

  125. See,

  126. Job has a high view of God.

  127. He knows God is sovereign.

  128. And it's a high view of God's providence.

  129. God is the one allowing these things to happen to him.

  130. And that's the correct view of God.

  131. I hope we have that view.

  132. God is all powerful.

  133. Nothing happens except through him.

  134. And within the parameters of his will,

  135. even our physical and spiritual and relational suffering.

  136. Some of you are in the middle of spiritual suffering.

  137. Like Job in verse 21,

  138. you know that anything you suffer,

  139. God has allowed even for you and your life.

  140. These months,

  141. these years,

  142. for some of us,

  143. this week has been very heavy spiritually,

  144. hasn't it?

  145. It's been a battle.

  146. And in our weakness,

  147. we're most vulnerable,

  148. but that's where the enemy,

  149. the accuser comes in,

  150. whispering in the ear.

  151. And he wants to accuse God to us.

  152. He wants us to believe the lie.

  153. God is either not loving,

  154. not good,

  155. or not all powerful.

  156. And that's why when we read in Romans 8,

    Romans 8:23

  157. verses 23 and 22,

  158. we agree.

  159. We feel this.

  160. The whole creation groans

  161. and labors together

  162. with birth pangs until now.

  163. And we groan within ourselves.

  164. Amen?

  165. Do you know what it is

  166. to groan in this life?

  167. Maybe some of you here today

  168. only knows what it is

  169. to groan in this life without hope.

  170. And I hope this is the last day

  171. that that will be true for you.

  172. Don't you long for your groaning

  173. to be replaced with hope.

  174. I hope you long for the groaning

  175. in these moments like this week for me,

  176. which were so heavy spiritually.

  177. I need it to be replaced on a daily basis,

  178. on an hourly basis,

  179. my groaning replaced with hope.

  180. Now, because Job is in the genre of literature,

  181. that's poetic,

  182. we don't get a narrative.

  183. We don't really get any insights or testimony,

  184. but we can't miss this.

  185. There's a massive shift of tone

  186. between verses 22 and 23.

  187. You're going to want to look closely

  188. at your own copy of God's Word.

  189. Job 19, look at verse 22.

  190. What we just left off.

  191. God is persecuting him.

  192. God has struck him.

  193. That's verse 22.

  194. But now look at verse 23.

  195. Oh, that my words were written.

  196. Wait, hold on.

  197. Which words is he talking about?

  198. Now we see an escalating permanence

  199. to what he is excited about.

  200. Oh, that they were inscribed in a book,

  201. not just written on a scrap and blown away,

  202. but I'm talking in a book

  203. that's going to be published

  204. and kept in a library.

  205. But that's not permitted enough.

  206. Look at verse 24.

  207. Oh, that these words were engraved on a rock

  208. with an iron pen and lead

  209. for how long?

  210. Forever.

  211. This is what needs to be permanent.

  212. And it's not the suffering.

  213. That's what's common to all men.

  214. It's a revelation.

  215. And look at verse 25.

  216. He says,

  217. For I know.

  218. He knows something.

  219. Something happened to Job

  220. between verse 22 and verse 23.

  221. I know something now.

  222. What does Job know?

  223. What gave him this sudden hope

  224. despite these threefold reasons for groaning?

  225. I'm using this word hope.

  226. And I don't mean it in a cheesy way

  227. and some abstract feeling.

  228. No.

  229. Hope.

  230. Real hope is faith in God's promises.

  231. That's all that hope is.

  232. Do you receive God's promises by faith?

  233. Hold on to that.

  234. This hour.

  235. Who was it that spoke truth to Job

  236. and gave him God's promise?

  237. Who was it that ministered to Job

  238. so that he can say,

  239. I know.

  240. Look at verse 25 to get the answer.

  241. For I know that my Redeemer.

  242. It's Job's Redeemer that ministers to him

  243. and speaks a promise of God to Job

  244. in the hour when he needed it the most.

  245. It was his Redeemer.

  246. Well, what does it mean to redeem?

  247. What is a Redeemer?

  248. And who is Job's Redeemer?

  249. To redeem means to purchase back something,

  250. to ransom it,

  251. to liberate or rescue from captivity or bondage.

  252. See, this describes Job.

  253. Job was in poverty,

  254. but the Redeemer will supply all his needs

  255. for life and godliness.

  256. Job is in bondage to suffering,

  257. but the Redeemer will set him free from affliction.

  258. Job was enslaved to misery

  259. and held captive to depression.

  260. But the Redeemer is the one

  261. who comes and gives him hope,

  262. faith in God's promise.

  263. Who is this Redeemer?

  264. I need to know this Redeemer.

  265. You need to know this Redeemer.

  266. The Bible tells us that Redeemer,

  267. the Redeemer,

  268. is God Himself.

  269. In Psalm 78, 35,

  270. it's Most High,

  271. Yahweh.

  272. He, the God of Israel,

  273. is the Redeemer.

  274. Isaiah 43, 14 says,

  275. The Lord, your Redeemer,

  276. the Holy One.

  277. The Redeemer is God Himself.

  278. Now, the Old Testament also hints

  279. at how there's a distinction.

  280. It's a glimpse of the holy three-in-one God.

  281. Isaiah 44, 6,

  282. Thus says the Lord,

  283. the King of Israel,

  284. and His Redeemer,

  285. the Lord of hosts,

  286. I am the first,

  287. and I am the last.

  288. Besides me,

  289. there is no God.

  290. So who is the Redeemer?

  291. It's the Holy God,

  292. the first and the last.

  293. The God,

  294. the King of Israel,

  295. and His Redeemer.

  296. How will this be?

  297. What a mystery.

  298. This mystery can only be appreciated

  299. in the person

  300. and the work

  301. of Jesus Christ.

  302. Truly divine,

  303. God Himself,

  304. the second person of the Trinity,

  305. who took on to Himself

  306. a body.

  307. God the Son,

  308. incarnate,

  309. who took on the flesh

  310. to turn our groaning

  311. into hope.

  312. Don't you long

  313. for your groaning

  314. to be replaced

  315. by hope

  316. through the Redeemer,

  317. Jesus Christ.

  318. Well,

  319. how is such

  320. a hope

  321. possible?

  322. Brothers and sisters,

  323. dear friends,

  324. it's my great

  325. privilege

  326. and pleasure

  327. to proclaim to you

  328. the work of Jesus Christ,

  329. the Redeemer.

  330. Jesus Christ

  331. replaces groaning

  332. with hope

  333. because first

  334. He suffered

  335. to redeem you

  336. and me

  337. who believe in Him.

  338. The Redeemer,

  339. our Lord Jesus Christ,

  340. think of how He

  341. endured relational

  342. suffering

  343. to redeem you

  344. who believe in Him.

  345. Like Job

  346. in verse 19,

  347. Jesus Christ,

  348. He felt the sting

  349. of rejection.

  350. Those He loved,

  351. His disciples,

  352. they all turned

  353. against Him.

  354. And this fulfills

  355. what God had promised

  356. in Isaiah 53.3.

  357. Jesus Christ

  358. was despised

  359. and rejected

  360. by men,

  361. a man of sorrows,

  362. acquainted

  363. with grief.

  364. grief.

  365. All hid their faces

  366. from Him.

  367. And it wasn't

  368. just those disciples

  369. in the first century.

  370. This includes you

  371. and me

  372. who rejected Him.

  373. We confess bold,

  374. I can only approach

  375. the throne of grace

  376. because of His work

  377. in my place.

  378. We behold the man

  379. upon the cross,

  380. my sin

  381. upon His shoulders.

  382. Ashamed,

  383. I hear my mocking voice

  384. call out

  385. among the scoffers.

  386. Jesus Christ,

  387. the Redeemer,

  388. endured relational

  389. suffering

  390. so that we could

  391. be right with God.

  392. The Redeemer,

  393. our Lord Jesus Christ,

  394. also endured

  395. great physical suffering

  396. to redeem you

  397. who believe

  398. in Him.

  399. Even more so

  400. than Job

  401. in verse 20,

  402. Jesus Christ

  403. suffered physically

  404. for you

  405. and for me.

  406. He became

  407. horrifying.

  408. He became

  409. the picture of death.

  410. He fulfilled

  411. Isaiah 53, 5.

  412. He was wounded

  413. for our transgressions.

  414. He was bruised

  415. for our iniquities.

  416. And He was oppressed

  417. and afflicted

  418. because only by His stripes

  419. could you and I

  420. be healed.

  421. Jesus Christ

  422. did not

  423. escape death

  424. by the skin

  425. of His teeth.

  426. But He died

  427. and He was buried

  428. to pay the penalty

  429. for our sin.

  430. We sing,

  431. Come, O sinner,

  432. come and see

  433. Christ,

  434. the Lord

  435. upon a tree.

  436. See the crown

  437. of thorns

  438. adorn the King

  439. who labors

  440. to breathe

  441. in agony.

  442. Come, O sinner,

  443. come and see

  444. what our God

  445. became

  446. to set us

  447. free.

  448. The Redeemer,

  449. our Lord Jesus Christ,

  450. endured

  451. spiritual suffering

  452. to redeem you

  453. and me

  454. who believe in Him.

  455. Like Job

  456. in verse 21,

  457. Jesus Christ

  458. suffered spiritually

  459. when He took

  460. our guilt

  461. to satisfy

  462. God's justice

  463. and to atone

  464. for our sin.

  465. He fulfilled

  466. Isaiah 53,

  467. 4 through 6,

  468. We esteemed Him

  469. stricken and smitten

  470. by God

  471. and afflicted.

  472. The chastisement

  473. for our peace

  474. was upon Him.

  475. It was the Lord God

  476. who laid

  477. on Jesus Christ,

  478. the iniquity

  479. of us all.

  480. And of all the sufferings

  481. that our Lord endured,

  482. this spiritual suffering

  483. to bear our guilt

  484. before His own Father,

  485. the Holy God,

  486. was the greatest.

  487. We sing,

  488. how great the pain

  489. of vile sin.

  490. The Father

  491. pours His wrath

  492. on Him

  493. because so deep

  494. is the Father's love

  495. for us,

  496. so vast beyond

  497. all measure

  498. that He should give

  499. His only Son

  500. to make a wretch

  501. His treasure.

  502. Do you see

  503. how Jesus Christ

  504. fulfilled

  505. and related

  506. to each one

  507. of the sufferings

  508. known to man

  509. under the sun

  510. captured in these verses

  511. in Job?

  512. And He did this

  513. to preach the gospel,

  514. the glorious news

  515. as the Redeemer.

  516. Here's the great truth

  517. for today.

  518. Here's what

  519. every believer

  520. will want engraved

  521. in stone forever.

  522. verse 25,

  523. I know

  524. my Redeemer

  525. lives.

  526. Amen?

  527. Today is a day

  528. of death defeated.

  529. The Lord was alive then.

  530. Job knew this.

  531. My Redeemer lives.

  532. He's the Ancient of Days.

  533. Jesus Christ died

  534. and was buried,

  535. but we know

  536. He lives today.

  537. Amen?

  538. And we know

  539. in Jesus Christ

  540. there is

  541. everlasting life.

  542. That's the only way

  543. that such a hope

  544. is possible.

  545. Well,

  546. the good news

  547. in this passage

  548. has really only begun.

  549. There's so much

  550. more now

  551. because of Christ's

  552. finished work

  553. for you

  554. and for me.

  555. I want to ask

  556. two more questions

  557. from this passage.

  558. What is a Christian's

  559. hope

  560. at the end

  561. of this life

  562. and what is a Christian's

  563. hope

  564. in the life

  565. to come?

  566. So first,

  567. what is a Christian's

  568. hope at the end

  569. of this life?

  570. We don't know

  571. when that will be

  572. for you or for me.

  573. God's word

  574. is true

  575. about the past.

  576. Jesus Christ

  577. fulfilled all

  578. that God said

  579. He would.

  580. He lived,

  581. died,

  582. was buried,

  583. and now He lives

  584. and He is seated

  585. at the right hand

  586. of God the Father

  587. Almighty.

  588. We know

  589. our Redeemer lives

  590. by faith now,

  591. but one day

  592. we will know

  593. this

  594. by sight.

  595. God's word

  596. is also true

  597. about the future.

  598. Look at verse 25.

  599. My Redeemer,

  600. Job says,

  601. He shall stand

  602. at last

  603. on the earth.

  604. Our Lord Jesus Christ,

  605. God the Son,

  606. and His glorified body,

  607. He is coming back.

  608. Verse 26 says,

  609. And after my skin

  610. is destroyed,

  611. these two thoughts

  612. are what answer

  613. our question for today.

  614. The Christians hope

  615. at the end of this life.

  616. We have hope

  617. in this life

  618. because Christ

  619. is coming back.

  620. And we know

  621. there's good news

  622. for us

  623. after my skin

  624. has been destroyed.

  625. So the moment

  626. of your death

  627. in this life.

  628. And that phrase,

  629. after my skin

  630. is destroyed,

  631. literally means

  632. after my flesh

  633. is struck off

  634. of my body.

  635. What the Bible teaches

  636. we get in Genesis 3.19

  637. that when you die,

  638. you return to the grave.

  639. ground,

  640. for out of the ground

  641. you were taken,

  642. for you are dust,

  643. and to dust

  644. you shall return.

  645. The Bible also teaches

  646. as our confession

  647. summarizes that

  648. because our souls

  649. are immortal

  650. in their substance,

  651. our souls

  652. neither die

  653. nor sleep.

  654. When the body dies,

  655. a Christian soul,

  656. according to Ecclesiastes 12.7,

  657. immediately returns

  658. to God

  659. who gave it.

  660. but the Bible

  661. is very clear.

  662. This is only true

  663. for those who are

  664. in Christ.

  665. Well,

  666. what about the souls

  667. of those who are

  668. outside of Christ?

  669. The souls of the wicked

  670. are cast into hell

  671. where they remain

  672. in torment

  673. and utter darkness

  674. reserved

  675. to the judgments

  676. of the great day.

  677. the Bible says

  678. that Jesus

  679. will come

  680. and He will judge

  681. the living

  682. and the dead

  683. as the King

  684. of all the earth

  685. and of the spiritual realm.

  686. Revelation 14,

  687. 10-11 says,

  688. those in hell

  689. will drink

  690. the wine

  691. of God's wrath

  692. poured

  693. full strength

  694. into the cup

  695. of His anger,

  696. tormented

  697. with fire

  698. and sulfur

  699. in the presence

  700. of the holy angels

  701. and in the presence

  702. of the Lamb.

  703. And the smoke

  704. of their torment

  705. goes up

  706. forever and ever

  707. and they have

  708. no rest

  709. day or night.

  710. Amen.

  711. After your soul

  712. leaves your body

  713. and your skin

  714. is destroyed,

  715. where will you

  716. spend eternity?

  717. Heaven or hell?

  718. Besides these two places,

  719. the scripture

  720. acknowledges none.

  721. There are only two responses

  722. to the Redeemer.

  723. this day,

  724. you will say

  725. one or the other.

  726. You will say

  727. He is no Savior

  728. or you'll say

  729. my Savior,

  730. my King.

  731. In Luke 23,

  732. we have the scene

  733. of what Christ

  734. accomplished

  735. in human history.

  736. The Lord Jesus Christ

  737. paying for the sin

  738. of His people

  739. on the cross

  740. and on either side

  741. of Him

  742. a criminal.

  743. And in God's providence,

  744. their responses

  745. are the call

  746. for all who will hear

  747. the good news

  748. of the work

  749. of Jesus today.

  750. The first criminal

  751. mocked Jesus

  752. and he said,

  753. aren't you the Christ?

  754. Save yourself

  755. and us.

  756. And in his mocking,

  757. what he's really saying

  758. is you are no Savior

  759. or else you'd get

  760. yourself off of that cross

  761. and me.

  762. That's one response

  763. that you are no Savior,

  764. no Redeemer.

  765. But there's good news

  766. for criminals

  767. like you and me

  768. that deserve death

  769. and that's the response

  770. of the second man

  771. in verse 42.

  772. He turned to Jesus.

  773. He turned to Jesus

  774. and looked at Him

  775. paying for His sin

  776. on the cross

  777. and said,

  778. Lord,

  779. remember me

  780. when you come

  781. into your kingdom.

  782. And in those words,

  783. that criminal is saying,

  784. my Savior,

  785. my King.

  786. Jesus said to this man

  787. who He redeemed,

  788. truly I say to you,

  789. today you will be

  790. with me in paradise.

  791. See, that criminal's body

  792. died

  793. and was buried

  794. or disposed of.

  795. But Jesus said to him,

  796. today you will be

  797. with me in paradise.

  798. Your soul united to me.

  799. This is called

  800. the intermediate state.

  801. The body has not

  802. been resurrected

  803. but the soul

  804. is with God.

  805. Your soul

  806. with Jesus Christ

  807. if He is your Savior

  808. and your King today

  809. no matter when you die.

  810. We need to think more

  811. about this truth,

  812. don't we?

  813. Well, the Christians

  814. of another century

  815. thought the same.

  816. William Gurnall

  817. said,

  818. let our hope

  819. of heaven

  820. master our fear

  821. of death.

  822. Why should you

  823. be afraid to die

  824. who hope

  825. to live by dying?

  826. That's our hope

  827. as Christians

  828. at the end

  829. of this life.

  830. But it's not

  831. the end of the good news.

  832. It's not even

  833. the greatest promise.

  834. The greatest promise

  835. comes in

  836. the next couple verses.

  837. The question for us

  838. is this,

  839. what is a Christian's

  840. hope

  841. in the life

  842. to come?

  843. See,

  844. there's more glory

  845. here.

  846. There is a life

  847. to come

  848. after that

  849. intermediate state.

  850. Look at verse 26.

  851. And after

  852. my skin

  853. is destroyed,

  854. this I know

  855. that in my flesh

  856. I shall see

  857. God.

  858. Romans 8, 23

  859. shed some more light

  860. on this great truth.

  861. we groan

  862. within ourselves

  863. eagerly waiting

  864. for the adoption.

  865. What is it?

  866. The redemption

  867. of our body.

  868. Our confession

  869. puts it this way,

  870. summarizing the teaching

  871. of scripture.

  872. All the dead

  873. shall be raised up

  874. with the self-same

  875. bodies

  876. and none other

  877. although with

  878. different qualities

  879. which shall be

  880. united again

  881. to their souls

  882. forever.

  883. forever.

  884. The Bible

  885. teaches that

  886. our bodies

  887. will be

  888. resurrected

  889. and united

  890. to our souls

  891. that are

  892. with God

  893. already.

  894. Romans 8

    Romans 8:11

  895. verse 11

  896. says,

  897. God who

  898. raised Jesus

  899. Christ from

  900. the dead

  901. will also

  902. give life

  903. to your

  904. mortal bodies

  905. through his

  906. spirit

  907. who dwells

  908. in you.

  909. 1 Corinthians

  910. 15, 42

  911. so it is

  912. with the

  913. resurrection

  914. of the dead.

  915. What is

  916. sown

  917. is perishable

  918. but it's

  919. raised

  920. imperishable.

  921. What is

  922. sown

  923. in dishonor

  924. is raised

  925. in glory.

  926. What is

  927. sown

  928. in weakness

  929. is raised

  930. in power.

  931. How can

  932. this be?

  933. Because I

  934. know

  935. my Redeemer

  936. lives

  937. because Jesus

  938. Christ is the

  939. firstborn

  940. from the

  941. dead.

  942. there's a

  943. great hymn

  944. by Charles

  945. Wesley that

  946. captures this

  947. truth.

  948. In hope

  949. of that

  950. immortal

  951. crown

  952. I now

  953. the cross

  954. sustain

  955. and gladly

  956. wander up

  957. and down

  958. and smile

  959. at toil

  960. and pain

  961. I suffer

  962. now

  963. my threescore

  964. years

  965. till my

  966. deliverer

  967. come

  968. and wipe

  969. away his

  970. servant's

  971. tears

  972. and take

  973. his exile

  974. home.

  975. this is

  976. the greatest

  977. hope

  978. for Christians

  979. and it's

  980. a hope

  981. that we

  982. will get

  983. in the

  984. life to

  985. come

  986. that I

  987. shall see

  988. God

  989. verse 26

  990. the church

  991. has striven

  992. to appreciate

  993. this wonderful

  994. promise

  995. that's mystery

  996. but it's

  997. it's such a

  998. great hope

  999. for the

  1000. Christians

  1001. we need

  1002. to ponder

  1003. it deeply

  1004. in the past

  1005. it's been

  1006. called the

  1007. beatific

  1008. vision

  1009. and that

  1010. just means

  1011. the blessed

  1012. vision

  1013. or the

  1014. blessed

  1015. sight

  1016. of God

  1017. look at

  1018. verse 27

  1019. I shall

  1020. see

  1021. my

  1022. redeemer

  1023. for myself

  1024. he's saying

  1025. my eyes

  1026. not another

  1027. eyes

  1028. my eyes

  1029. shall behold

  1030. him

  1031. in 1st

  1032. John 3

    John 3:2

  1033. verses 2

  1034. and 3

  1035. we read

  1036. beloved

  1037. we are

  1038. God's

  1039. heirs

  1040. now

  1041. and what

  1042. we will

  1043. be

  1044. has

  1045. not yet

  1046. appeared

  1047. but we

  1048. know

  1049. that when

  1050. he appears

  1051. we shall

  1052. be

  1053. like

  1054. him

  1055. because

  1056. we shall

  1057. see him

  1058. as he

  1059. is

  1060. what a

  1061. glorious truth

  1062. for all

  1063. eternity

  1064. a theologian

  1065. named Samuel

  1066. Parkinson

  1067. was meditating

  1068. on this great

  1069. truth

  1070. he wrote

  1071. in that

  1072. blessed

  1073. vision

  1074. our

  1075. comprehension

  1076. and vision

  1077. and delight

  1078. which are

  1079. all finite

  1080. will be

  1081. perpetually

  1082. maximized

  1083. and as our

  1084. capacity

  1085. for vision

  1086. and comprehension

  1087. expands

  1088. so will

  1089. our delight

  1090. each level

  1091. of enjoyment

  1092. of God

  1093. will be topped

  1094. by the next

  1095. and the life

  1096. to come

  1097. David

  1098. in Psalm

    Psalms 17:15

  1099. 17

  1100. verse 15

  1101. was captured

  1102. by this

  1103. great truth

  1104. behold

  1105. I shall

  1106. see

  1107. your face

  1108. in righteousness

  1109. oh God

  1110. when I

  1111. awake

  1112. the resurrection

  1113. I shall

  1114. be satisfied

  1115. with your

  1116. likeness

  1117. our Lord

  1118. Jesus Christ

  1119. he will

  1120. redeem

  1121. his people

  1122. in every way

  1123. every source

  1124. of groaning

  1125. will be healed

  1126. in the life

  1127. to come

  1128. relationally

  1129. Christians

  1130. will be so

  1131. at peace

  1132. with God

  1133. and with his

  1134. bride

  1135. all of his

  1136. people

  1137. with him

  1138. yet

  1139. for all

  1140. eternity

  1141. our

  1142. shalom

  1143. our relational

  1144. peace

  1145. will still

  1146. be deepened

  1147. physically

  1148. believers

  1149. bodies

  1150. will be

  1151. glorified

  1152. so that

  1153. with your

  1154. own eyes

  1155. your own

  1156. vision

  1157. you will

  1158. see God

  1159. and the

  1160. lamb

  1161. and yet

  1162. that sight

  1163. of God

  1164. and the

  1165. glorified

  1166. body

  1167. will be

  1168. perpetually

  1169. maximized

  1170. throughout

  1171. eternity

  1172. to come

  1173. spiritually

  1174. our union

  1175. to Christ

  1176. will be

  1177. immediately

  1178. unhindered

  1179. by any

  1180. remaining

  1181. corruptions

  1182. and still

  1183. with more

  1184. to come

  1185. for all

  1186. eternity

  1187. our souls

  1188. will experience

  1189. continuously

  1190. greater

  1191. wholeness

  1192. in Jesus

  1193. Christ

  1194. and with

  1195. all of

  1196. this

  1197. greater

  1198. delight

  1199. in our

  1200. communion

  1201. with the

  1202. holy

  1203. God

  1204. amen

  1205. what a

  1206. redeemer

  1207. we have

  1208. we've been

  1209. able to

  1210. meditate on

  1211. the most

  1212. glorious

  1213. truths

  1214. that God

  1215. has given

  1216. us in

  1217. his word

  1218. and I

  1219. love how

  1220. this wonderful

  1221. portion of

  1222. scripture

  1223. actually ends

  1224. with a

  1225. response

  1226. how can

  1227. we respond

  1228. to such

  1229. a promise

  1230. from our

  1231. great

  1232. God

  1233. look at

  1234. verse 27

  1235. oh how

  1236. my heart

  1237. yearns

  1238. within me

  1239. you see

  1240. the full

  1241. redemption

  1242. my heart

  1243. my inner

  1244. being now

  1245. yearns

  1246. with a new

  1247. type of

  1248. groaning

  1249. second

  1250. Corinthians

  1251. 5 2

  1252. indeed

  1253. we groan

  1254. in this

  1255. tent

  1256. desiring

  1257. to put

  1258. on

  1259. our

  1260. heavenly

  1261. dwelling

  1262. the hymn

  1263. says

  1264. so let

  1265. this

  1266. feeble

  1267. body

  1268. fail

  1269. yes

  1270. let it

  1271. faint

  1272. and die

  1273. for

  1274. I

  1275. shall

  1276. drop

  1277. this

  1278. mournful

  1279. veil

  1280. and see

  1281. my

  1282. Lord

  1283. most

  1284. high

  1285. we can

  1286. say

  1287. with Job

  1288. this

  1289. I know

  1290. by faith

  1291. that in

  1292. my

  1293. flesh

  1294. one

  1295. day

  1296. in the

  1297. life

  1298. to

  1299. come

  1300. I

  1301. shall

  1302. see

  1303. God

  1304. whom

  1305. I

  1306. shall

  1307. see

  1308. for

  1309. myself

  1310. my

  1311. eyes

  1312. shall

  1313. behold

  1314. him

  1315. how

  1316. do

  1317. you

  1318. know

  1319. this

  1320. I

  1321. know

  1322. this

  1323. because

  1324. I

  1325. know

  1326. my

  1327. redeemer

  1328. lives

  1329. I

  1330. know

  1331. he's

  1332. redeemed

  1333. me

  1334. his

  1335. holy

  1336. spirit

  1337. causes

  1338. me

  1339. to

  1340. know

  1341. this

  1342. and

  1343. to

  1344. trust

  1345. him

  1346. and

  1347. he

  1348. shall

  1349. stand

  1350. at

  1351. last

  1352. on

  1353. the

  1354. earth

  1355. revelation

  1356. 5

  1357. 6

  1358. paints

  1359. this

  1360. for

  1361. us

  1362. near

  1363. the

  1364. throne

  1365. of

  1366. heaven

  1367. I

  1368. saw

  1369. the

  1370. lamb

  1371. standing

  1372. as

  1373. though

  1374. it

  1375. had

  1376. been

  1377. slain

  1378. and

  1379. every

  1380. creature

  1381. which

  1382. is

  1383. in

  1384. heaven

  1385. and

  1386. on

  1387. earth

  1388. and

  1389. under

  1390. the

  1391. earth

  1392. and

  1393. all

  1394. such

  1395. as

  1396. are

  1397. in

  1398. the

  1399. sea

  1400. and

  1401. all

  1402. that

  1403. are

  1404. in

  1405. them

  1406. I

  1407. heard

  1408. them

  1409. saying

  1410. blessing

  1411. and

  1412. honor

  1413. and

  1414. glory

  1415. and

  1416. power

  1417. be

  1418. to

  1419. him

  1420. who

  1421. sits

  1422. on

  1423. the

  1424. throne

  1425. and

  1426. to

  1427. the

  1428. lamb

  1429. forever

  1430. and

  1431. ever

  1432. don't

  1433. miss

  1434. out

  1435. dear

  1436. friends

  1437. run

  1438. to

  1439. Jesus

  1440. Christ

  1441. your

  1442. redeemer

  1443. let

  1444. your soul

  1445. groan

  1446. today

  1447. but

  1448. with

  1449. this

  1450. groan

  1451. of

  1452. 2

  1453. Corinthians

  1454. 5

  1455. 2

  1456. because

  1457. God

  1458. has

  1459. stirred

  1460. your

  1461. soul

  1462. so

  1463. earnestly

  1464. to

  1465. desire

  1466. to be

  1467. clothed

  1468. in

  1469. your

  1470. new

  1471. body

  1472. and

  1473. well

  1474. suited

  1475. for

  1476. the

  1477. new

  1478. heavens

  1479. and

  1480. the

  1481. new

  1482. earth

  1483. so

  1484. that

  1485. with

  1486. your

  1487. own

  1488. eyes

  1489. in

  1490. that

  1491. resurrection

  1492. body

  1493. you

  1494. will

  1495. get

  1496. to

  1497. see

  1498. at

  1499. last

  1500. your

  1501. God

  1502. and

  1503. your

  1504. lamb

  1505. our

  1506. great

  1507. and

  1508. only

  1509. hope

  1510. and

  1511. so

  1512. as

  1513. 1

  1514. Thessalonians

  1515. 4

  1516. 17

  1517. reassures

  1518. us

  1519. we

  1520. will

  1521. be

  1522. with

  1523. the

  1524. Lord

  1525. forever

  1526. oh

  1527. may your

  1528. soul

  1529. so grown

  1530. within

  1531. you

  1532. today

  1533. may your

  1534. heart

  1535. yearn

  1536. for this

  1537. sight of

  1538. God

  1539. let's

  1540. respond to

  1541. him in

  1542. prayer
