  1. Good morning everybody. Go ahead and grab your Bibles

  2. and turn to 1st, 1st Kings 14, First Kings 14, and then also

  3. put your finger at work. We're going to start in First

  4. Kings, but also put a a bookmark in Second Chronicles 10.

  5. We finally got past the introduction stuff.

  6. I always I feel like introduction you get you got a

  7. lot of information, but it doesn't feel like a lot of Bible

  8. in them. But we are we we are starting

  9. with Raya Boehm, King Raya Boehm, the the man that took

  10. over the Kingdom after Solomon is his father and and what is

  11. the most what is he noted for? What is he noted for Kingdom

  12. splitting under his watch? Yes.

  13. Splitting into two kingdoms. And what what Kingdom was he

  14. king of Judah? Good.

  15. And they are located in the South.

  16. Good. All right, hey, wake up.

  17. It's school time. It's not math at 9:40 in the

  18. morning. It's it's Bible.

  19. So that's a lot easier than math, but there in let's look at

  20. verse 2021 of First Kings 14, verse 21, and Rehoboam, the son

    1 Kings 14:21

  21. of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was 40 and one years

  22. old when he began to reign and he reigned 17 years in

  23. Jerusalem, the city which the Lord did choose out of the all

  24. the tribes of Israel to put his name there.

  25. And his mother's name was Nama. And Ammonitis.

  26. And Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked

  27. him to jealousy with their sins, which they had committed above

  28. all that their fathers had done. For they also built them high

  29. places and images and Groves, on every high hill and under every

  30. green tree. And there were also sodomites in

  31. the land, and they did according to all the abominations of the

  32. nations which the Lord cast out before the children of Israel.

  33. Not a good, I was going to say intro for your Kingdom of your

  34. reign. But that's where we find Raya

  35. Boehm. And you kind of think of the son

  36. of the wisest man to ever live and the grandson of a man that

  37. that God says is after God's own heart.

  38. And so you think that of everybody that this, this man

  39. will be ready to go. And, and he's the, the Bible

  40. said it's, he doesn't take the, the throne until 41 years old.

  41. So like pastor said, he's, he's old enough to be wise.

  42. He's, he's old enough to understand what's going on and

  43. not to make the same decisions that, you know, a 20 year old

  44. would or, or a 16 year old would that would take the throne.

  45. But we find in his life, in his reign, some, some things that

  46. made the, the spiritual climate of Judah into departure and a

  47. defeated Kingdom, which is sad to see when, when we think of

  48. who he comes after. But we're, we're going to

  49. examine his rule and his life to kind of see things that we can

  50. apply to our own lives to see practical lessons of why just

  51. because you have a good history doesn't mean anything about your

  52. life. Let's pray and we'll get into

  53. this lesson. Heavenly Father, I thank you so

  54. much for this morning, for God for being able to be in your

  55. house, to be able to open your word, to have your word, to be

  56. able to open. And I got it.

  57. I pray that you help us to to see the the stories and and

  58. those that you've preserved for eternity for us to read as

  59. examples and in samples, as your word says to, to monitor and to

  60. change our lives to be not the same mistakes and not the same

  61. errors as those that have gone before us, but to mimic those

  62. that did did well and Lord that you did well and, and mimic your

  63. life for us. Lord, I just pray that you be

  64. with the lesson. I just pray that you help us to

  65. be able to see exactly what we need to learn from this king

  66. that you've chosen and you set apart and and you chose to show

  67. us throughout eternity the history of his life.

  68. Thank you for again for all that you do in Jesus name I pray

  69. Amen. So like I said, the first thing

  70. is family. The characteristic of Raya

  71. Bohem's rule over Judah can be kind of traced back to what his

  72. family was. You think of the wisest man that

  73. Solomon that, that walked with God in the beginning and then

  74. fell away. And, and it's interesting.

  75. We last week we talked about all the rules that the instructions

  76. that God gave to Moses to give to the children of Israel, to

  77. what rules these kings should do.

  78. And if you study Solomon, he broke every single one of them

  79. throughout his entire reign. He broke every single one of

  80. them. And the biggest one that I think

  81. is the factor of what happened to King Solomon was he had so

  82. many wives, first King 11/3 says.

  83. And he had 700 wives, princesses and 300 concubines.

  84. And his wives turned away his heart.

  85. The impact of those wives on that boy Raya Boehm was huge in

  86. what his upbringing was. You had you had a a godly man

  87. that knew who he should serve, knew how he should live, knew

  88. how he should rule, and he had that as a as a father figure.

  89. But what's interesting is 3 times in the Bible, God shows us

  90. who is his mother was, which usually is very not they, they

  91. might say her name one time, but that's it.

  92. But three times God tells us his mother was Naima and Amitite

  93. Ammonitis. The Ammonites were were were a

  94. lineage of Lot's sin with his youngest daughter.

  95. That's where the Ammonites came from.

  96. And the fact that God points out, yes, his father was

  97. Solomon, the wisest man, but his mother was an Amaditis who who

  98. hated the children of Israel and all throughout the Bible fought

  99. against Israel. His he had a wicked heritage

  100. that with him as an Ammonite, his mother would have been

  101. worshipping the idol Molech. And if you've had any kind of

  102. study of different idols and different gods in that time,

  103. Molech was the one that they used to sacrifice their children

  104. on the altar. They, they would, they would

  105. heat the, the idol up to where the hands were burning and

  106. glowing and they would lay their child on there.

  107. And that's the mother that you have.

  108. You have a godly father who starts to slip and a mother that

  109. that worships a God that requires sacrifice of their

  110. children. Not only did he have both

  111. options, but because of that heritage, we see the biggest

  112. impact. I think of Ray Bones life, it

  113. became very inconsistent. He had he had a father that

  114. loved God and he had a mother that didn't.

  115. And all throughout his reign, we see that inconsistency and it's

  116. amazing how we think that, oh, you know, my, I grew up in

  117. church or, or, or my, my, my mom was kept me in church.

  118. You know, I, I was drugged to church as a kid.

  119. Monday or Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday night,

  120. Saturday, I was drugged to church.

  121. No ash, no questions. There wasn't a are we going to

  122. church? But just because of that, just

  123. because of your upbringing, just because of your background and

  124. your your family that's behind you doesn't mean anything for

  125. your own spiritual walk. You have to understand that it's

  126. your spiritual walk. It's your kids walk with the

  127. Lord. Yes, it's great to have them in

  128. Sunday school. Yes, it's great to have them

  129. memorizing scripture in in the King's class and and it's great

  130. to have them doing devotions. But if this Bible, if the God of

  131. Abraham doesn't become the God of your child, it doesn't matter

  132. what you do. And we see that in Raya Bones

  133. life. We also see, just like pastor

  134. was talking about with with Graham, who you are around is

  135. very important, who you associate.

  136. And we'll see that here. Go ahead and turn over to second

  137. Chronicles 10 and we'll see the first thing that we see of of

  138. what Raya Boehm starts with it. You're there in verse 13 of

  139. chapter 10, his foolishness. Now he's 31 years old and it's

  140. 41 and it's it's amazing that the 41 year old does this.

  141. Verse 13, verse 12. So Jeroboam and all the people

  142. came to Rehoboam on the third day as the king bade saying come

  143. again to me on the 3rd day. And the king answered them

  144. roughly. And King Raya Boehm's forsook

  145. the counsel of the old men. He made a foolish error,

  146. something that you would assume a 41 year old would understand

  147. the whys and those that were there before you would have

  148. wisdom over what should be done. And he chooses instead of

  149. listening to the elders in the nation to, to change not

  150. protocol. What's the word I'm looking for?

  151. Say again, not, not tradition, the president policies, thank

  152. you policies that are going on in the country.

  153. He chooses to change the policy, but to make them worse to to

  154. listen to the younger men. And he goes with the foolish

  155. decision. So we have a a foolish decision.

  156. Then look at Chapter 11, verse 17.

  157. So they strengthened the Kingdom of Judah and made Rehoboam, the

  158. son of Solomon strong three years.

  159. For three years they walked in the way of David and Solomon.

  160. We just had a major foolishness decision by by King Solomon.

  161. But then just the chapter later, he, he's guiding his Kingdom in

  162. the way of Christ in, in God's path.

  163. He, he has faithfulness and decides to walk in the way of

  164. David and Solomon. So we, we, we bounce from

  165. foolishness to faithfulness. All right, we, we, we've

  166. corrected the ship. We've got we, we're back on the

  167. straight and narrow. Let's keep going.

  168. But it doesn't last long. Verse chapter 12 verse one and

  169. it came to pass when Rehoboam had established the Kingdom and

  170. has strengthened himself. He forsook the law of the Lord

  171. and all Israel with him. He he was faithful until it

  172. became pride until it became I'm good.

  173. I'm I'm strengthened, I'm ready to go.

  174. I, I can do this on my own now, Lord.

  175. And he totally rebels against the law of Moses, against God.

  176. But then we Fast forward and we get to verse 5 of chapter 12.

  177. Then came Shema, Shema the prophet to Rehoboam and to the

  178. Princess of Judah, that were gathered together to Jerusalem

  179. because of Sheeshank, and said unto them, Thus saith the Lord,

  180. Ye have forsaken me, and therefore I have let also left

  181. you in the hand of Sheeshak. Whereupon the Princess of Israel

  182. and the king humbled himself themselves.

  183. And they said, The Lord is righteous.

  184. And when the Lord saw that they humbled themselves, the word of

  185. the Lord came to Sheesh, she my wow Shamaya saying, They have

  186. humbled themselves, therefore will I not destroy them, but I

  187. will grant them some deliverance, and my wrath shall

  188. not be poured out upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sheeshak.

  189. He has a spirit of repentance. And so constantly through his

  190. reign, he goes according to what God wants, and then he rebels.

  191. And then he goes back to according to God once and he

  192. rebels. And we see that over and over in

  193. his reign. And, and one of the things that

  194. we see is it talks about Sheeshak, he Raya Boehm takes,

  195. takes the throne at 41. And by 46, five years later,

  196. it's gotten so bad that, that the Lord says, I'm going to

  197. bring the, the she shack is from Egypt into Jerusalem and ransack

  198. everything. And, and, and the result of what

  199. happened was they invaded Jerusalem.

  200. They took the treasures which belonged in the House of God in

  201. to the nations of Israel. And that's two big things that

  202. had never really happened since Saul.

  203. Not only did did we see do we see here that an enemy has came

  204. not just a skirmish skirmish, but invaded the country, which

  205. hadn't happened since Saul. And you, you almost know that's

  206. because the hand of God was holding back things, holding

  207. back enemies, trying to bless the nation for their

  208. faithfulness for their for their walk with him.

  209. But Raya Boehm changes their direction and God says, because

  210. you forsook me, I'm going to let an enemy come in.

  211. And not only did he come in, but he made it all the way to

  212. Jerusalem. It wasn't like he just knocked

  213. on the door and took the first city.

  214. He took city after city and moved all the way to Jerusalem

  215. the the the capital of Judah and pulled blessings that God wanted

  216. to have for that nation away from them because of their sin,

  217. because of their their forsaking God and following him.

  218. And as a result, Judah not only experienced defeat, they lost

  219. the blessing of God. And it's not until the verse we

  220. talk about a nation that turns away from God and and the verse

  221. is on the tip of my tongue. If my people, which are called

  222. by my name, shall what you just talked about.

  223. It humbled themselves. It took the king to humble

  224. himself and the Princess to humble themselves to repent and

  225. for God to say, you know, I, I, you know, sometimes you always

  226. wonder, did did, did he just do it?

  227. Because it was, oh, no, they're right here.

  228. Please, please. I don't want to.

  229. I don't think God would have withheld his judgement from Raya

  230. Boehm if Raya Boehm wasn't sincere and true in his

  231. humbleness. And that's why I say his

  232. inconsistency is the biggest fall of his entire reign.

  233. He, he's, he's totally for God and walking with God and trying

  234. to keep his nation towards God. And I believe sincerely and then

  235. rebels sincerely and God has to bring judgment.

  236. And then he sees his foolishness and, and changes again and walks

  237. humbly before God. And then we see and, and

  238. literally it's, it's verse one to verse 5.

  239. I mean, it's not even many years later.

  240. It's it's literally in the same chapter.

  241. The inconsistency of Rehoboam. And that's that's his biggest

  242. what? That's that's the title of our

  243. the inconsistent king of all of them.

  244. He was as God says, you're not hot or you're not cold, you're

  245. lukewarm and I spew you out of my mouth because I don't, I

  246. don't want that. And Raya Boehm is just

  247. constantly going back and forth and we have to understand and

  248. what why is that important for us?

  249. What why is Raya Boehm kept in history for all eternity in this

  250. book? Because God wants us to see a

  251. man that is unstable in no, a man.

  252. Oh wow, a double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

  253. This book talks about itself. This this book is able to tell

  254. you by the way, here's here's a king and look at what his life

  255. did. Look at how he reigned.

  256. Look at how he followed me and didn't follow me and followed me

  257. and didn't follow me and look at the the consequence that

  258. happened because of that, because of you veering away from

  259. me. Split the 12 tribes because of

  260. you leading your two tribes with God in the ways of David and

  261. Solomon that the Bible says God strengthened that nation, built

  262. it up, made it a nation to where the other nations wanted it.

  263. Sheshak wouldn't have gone well. Look at Jerusalem, that looks

  264. written. They don't have anything.

  265. No, obviously they had stuff that Sheshak wanted because God

  266. had built them up, because they walked with God.

  267. But as soon as Rehoboam moves away from that pride again gets

  268. involved. I'm fine.

  269. I can do this on my own. Look at me.

  270. I'm a I'm a king of a huge nation.

  271. We we'll we'll gloss over. I lost 10 of the tribes, but I'm

  272. a I'm a very strong nation. God says again, I gave you rules

  273. and instructions of how to follow how to be the king of

  274. Israel. And one of them is not take many

  275. whys which. Unfortunately, Raya Bone did not

  276. learn from his father. He himself takes many wives as

  277. well, but he gets that pride of I can support myself.

  278. I have safety in myself. I'm strong.

  279. I'm strong as a nation and God says you're only as strong as I

  280. allow you to be and your strength I'll take away like

  281. that and he does and then we see his failure.

  282. You're there verse second Chronicles 12.

  283. Look at verse 14. So we we have he's foolish, goes

  284. with the younger counsel. Then he flips and has the nation

  285. walk within the ways of Solomon and David.

  286. And then he he jumps and and rebels again.

  287. And then Sheshak comes and he humbles himself and in verse 5

  288. and he gets back on the right ground with God.

  289. And then we see verse 14, literally the same chapter.

  290. And he did evil because he prepared not his heart to seek

  291. the Lord. As as much as we can say about

  292. his decision making as a king. The ultimate issue that with

  293. Raya Bohm was not his mind, it was his heart.

  294. He did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.

  295. We, we, we, we know in Proverbs 23, it's talks about a man that

  296. as he thinketh in his heart, so he so is he.

  297. We have to be careful as Christians.

  298. If we don't prepare our hearts to walk with God, you'll turn

  299. every which way The Bible talks about in in the last days that

  300. that you're not you're you're their faith is so shallow that

  301. they're tossed here and there to every wind of doctrine.

  302. We as Christians have to make sure that our heart is prepared.

  303. Just like if, if you have rules in your home as a, as a, as a

  304. kid growing up, you have rules of, you know, I, I won't do this

  305. until marriage. I, I'm going to have all these

  306. rules in place. Great to have rules and, and to

  307. have that set up in your in, in your life that your parents put

  308. in place. And I'm not going to be with

  309. the, the person of the opposite sex alone because I don't want

  310. temptation. Great.

  311. But are you prepared if you get to a spot where, oops, we're,

  312. we're too far. Have you prepared your heart to

  313. be with the Lord, to to walk and seek the Lord to where you get

  314. to a spot? You have all the rules that say

  315. I'm not going to do this. But then you find yourself in

  316. that situation. Name whatever situation you have

  317. what what you don't plan for, you'll never be able to

  318. overcome. And Ray Obama, Raya Boehm did

  319. not prepare his heart. And it's amazing that we have

  320. the the greatest example of one that did prepare his heart is

  321. his grandfather. David was like I said in First

  322. Samuel 3/13/14, the Bible says that God calls David a man after

  323. his own heart. You have that type of a

  324. grandfather, one that walks and seeks after God, yes.

  325. Is he a man in human and sins and falls?

  326. Yes, not not denying his in that he's infallible or that he's

  327. perfect or never makes a mistake.

  328. David made a lot of mistakes, but he had a heart that was

  329. prepared to seek after the Lord and he was quick to get on his

  330. knees when that happened. But somewhere in two generations

  331. that that teaching your child to seek the Lord with all your

  332. heart to understand that it a head knowledge doesn't do

  333. anything for you if it's not here.

  334. And apparently it didn't go down.

  335. It didn't get passed on to Solomon.

  336. It didn't get passed on to Rehoboam.

  337. And then we have someone after Rehoboam to look at Manasseh,

  338. King Hezekiah, probably the best king Israel had or Judah had.

  339. Most followed after Christ, after God in in his laws, his

  340. son Manasseh. Hezekiah was the best following

  341. after God. Manasseh could be said he's the

  342. worst following totally against God.

  343. I believe God gives that to us just to remind us don't just

  344. expect your kids to follow after me.

  345. Don't expect just because your parents were were Christians and

  346. and and raised right and and did what was right that you get it.

  347. I I think of Trey, not not pick on you, but good morning, Trey

  348. when when it was joining the church.

  349. My parents are are members. Well, that's not big.

  350. That doesn't make you a member once you get old enough.

  351. Oh, I need to get that changed the same way with is with our

  352. walk with the Lord. Just because your parents walk

  353. with the Lord doesn't automatically mean the kids walk

  354. with the Lord. And we have to be careful as

  355. parents to raise our children to see that God's the same God in

  356. the Bible as he is today, that he's real, that he's not just

  357. something that, Oh yeah, we, we read about Moses where we're at

  358. in our family devotions, where they just crossed the Red Sea

  359. and, and they're there last night.

  360. He, he struck the rock for water.

  361. And, and, and you, you see these wow water coming out of a rock

  362. and, and all these amazing things that God did for the

  363. children of Israel. If it stops there, their

  364. relationship with God will stop there.

  365. It'll be stories. It'll be that's cool.

  366. That's that's what the God of the Bible.

  367. Great. But if if that child never

  368. understands that God of the Bible is the same God today and

  369. is the same God for those children of his, he's the same

  370. God for us. He can strike a rock and give us

  371. water when when we're in the depths of of despair, when we're

  372. when we're at the bottom as the the rock bottom, he can bring

  373. water to it, but we have to prepare our hearts to seek the

  374. Lord. James 18, I said it already, a

  375. double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

  376. I think as American Christians, we have the easy, easiest

  377. ability to be one of these. It's so easy to get here on

  378. Sunday, dress up, put a suit on. Done.

  379. Now I look the part. I can smile and say I'm I'm

  380. doing great. How are you doing, guy?

  381. Amen. I can say that in the sermon I

  382. can sing to the top of my lungs. But when I go home, I grabbed my

  383. phone and start looking at things I shouldn't.

  384. When I go home, I start talking around the guys at work like I

  385. shouldn't as a Christian. And then I woke Wednesday night.

  386. Got to, got to do my part, got to act like what I should.

  387. And everybody around us thinks we're all fine and dandy.

  388. Oh, look at his parents. His parents were a pastor.

  389. His parents, his parents, his father was a pastor.

  390. He, he, he must be fine. I think that the pastor's kids

  391. get the worst end of everything because they automatically get

  392. put on a pedestal saying that your father's the pastor, so you

  393. must be fine. And they're held to a higher

  394. standard because they all you shouldn't do that.

  395. And I feel like a lot of times they get to a point where they,

  396. they are the most likely to leave as they grow up, as your

  397. kids grow up in church, make sure they understand and realize

  398. and make sure their heart is seeking after God themselves.

  399. We have to understand that being unstable is not useful.

  400. If you ask somebody, hey, pray for me.

  401. OK, good. I, I, I'll pray for you.

  402. Do do, as sad as it might be, we probably do expect if I asked 10

  403. people to pray for me, one probably will actually do it.

  404. That shouldn't be in a church that shouldn't be.

  405. As a Christian, we need to have stability in our homes, in our

  406. churches for for our sake, but for our kids sake as well.

  407. And the inconsistency that we see in Raya Bohm's life is set

  408. there as an example to us to say just because they grow up in a

  409. great home doesn't mean they're going to turn out right.

  410. It's not going to happen by accident.

  411. Just like when we started this whole series.

  412. What Why did the children of Israel ask for a king?

  413. Because they wanted to be like other nations and because of the

  414. sons of Samuel, your sons aren't walking in your in the in the

  415. right way. Oh Samuel's kids Samuel was a we

  416. got first and second. I mean he's should be right on

  417. spot on. How did you lose your children?

  418. How how were your children not understanding the since

  419. seriousness of what it is to walk with God because it was

  420. never given to them Dad. Yep, dad's going off to tell the

  421. king or tell the tell the judge or to to do this or to he heard

  422. this from the Lord. And but if it never becomes

  423. personal to that kid, they'll grow up and be inconsistent

  424. because they know what's right. But this world has such a draw

  425. and they haven't purposed in their heart to follow and seek

  426. after God fully because, you know, OK, I'm on a diet, I'm

  427. done. I'm on a diet.

  428. I could cheat. And after I cheat, man, your

  429. sweat starts going like I feel so fat now.

  430. I just, I had a piece of cake. And then in the morning you get

  431. on the skin and you're like, oh, it didn't do anything.

  432. Well, maybe I can cheat again. And you cheat again and you get

  433. on the scare and you're like at a .2.

  434. That's OK, I can get rid of that.

  435. I just won't eat breakfast. There we go.

  436. I'm back down. And as funny as that is, we play

  437. with that with sin. I know I shouldn't do this and I

  438. do it. Oh, I didn't get caught.

  439. I don't have any consequence to that.

  440. I know I should. I shouldn't do that.

  441. And I get back doing right and well.

  442. I mean, last time it didn't do anything.

  443. Last time I didn't gain any weight.

  444. I'll just put my toe in it, get back over here, and it ruins

  445. their life. They're ineffective for God

  446. because that vessel is not fit for the use.

  447. That's why we have these kings to be an example to us to go

  448. look at. Raya Bone had the wisest man

  449. alive, had the grandfather of of a man that was after God's own

  450. heart. And yet he had a mother that

  451. followed after idols. And obviously the influence of

  452. his mother was great because God wanted everybody to know, hey,

  453. this was his mom. Be careful who you allow your

  454. kids to be around. Be careful who you allow

  455. yourself to be around because it's going to make you

  456. inconsistent an inconsistent person.

  457. I don't want anything to deal with and if you and I don't want

  458. to deal with an inconsistent person, you think God's going to

  459. use them. Let's pray Heavenly Father, I, I

  460. thank you again for your word for preserving it for us for all

  461. eternity and the, the examples and the, the lives that they're,

  462. they're not stories. They're they're actual lives of

  463. men and women that lived this way and made the choices that

  464. they did good or bad. God for us to, to have an

  465. example and to see if we don't prepare our hearts to seek after

  466. you every single day, Satan's going to get an inroad.

  467. Satan's going to be able to not just attack us, but able to get

  468. to the the Capitol building and steal blessings out of our lives

  469. because we allowed a little crack in the wall that we

  470. thought it wasn't that big of a deal.

  471. God, I pray that we we stopped playing Christian that we we

  472. understand the seriousness of of especially being in the days

  473. that we live. There's enough wishy washy

  474. churches and enough wishy washy Christian so-called God.

  475. I pray that we we set.
