  1. Anybody need one kids, kids as well.

  2. I think he's got plenty of them. All right, so pastor mentioned

  3. we are going to be starting into the discipleship course on the

  4. Bible and tonight is going to be really, really, really basic.

  5. We're not going to get into and I'm kind of glad because it's AI

  6. don't know if heavy topics is the right word, but into the the

  7. all the the different like the Texas Receptus and the

  8. preservation and inspiration and all that that is there's a lot

  9. to that. And so we're not going to get

  10. into that at all tonight. We're going to be very much

  11. doing an overview of the Bible tonight.

  12. And I wrote a few notes down here in addition to the the what

  13. we have in our discipleship book.

  14. But I want you to remember and while you're remembering, you

  15. can go to first Peter chapter 1 and verse 25.

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  16. That's where we'll start. But I want you to remember that

  17. this discipleship book, it is for us, but some of the reason

  18. it's so basic is this is this book is made for a new brand new

  19. Christian to be going through this with you, a Christian that

  20. has LED them to Christ or has found somebody who's newly saved

  21. and is now discipling them. So there are some things that

  22. are very, very obvious and basic to us that a new Christian may

  23. have no idea. One of those things.

  24. We'll get to it in a second being they may not even know how

  25. to how to when you say first Peter 125, they may have no idea

  26. what that means what it what is 1 and what is 25.

  27. I think it's somewhat basic in you know, in books, but not most

  28. books aren't broken down into chapters and verses like the

  29. Bible is. So even something that simple.

  30. They may not understand that that's what's going on when,

  31. when somebody gives a reference and so say they're in church or

  32. they're listening to a message on their own, trying to, trying

  33. to learn and they, they can't find where they're at because

  34. something that simple. So remember that as we go

  35. forward here through the discipleship course, that some

  36. of this is not for us per SE to say, Oh, I know this already.

  37. It's to remind us and, and take notes in your book so that when

  38. the time comes, and hopefully it will hopefully sooner than later

  39. that you get to disciple somebody.

  40. These, these are some things to make notes for yourself of how

  41. to do that. Now we're going to get to 1st

  42. Peter 125 here in just a second, but I'm going to ask this

  43. question. We'll be a little bit

  44. interactive tonight. Not too crazy and I won't put

  45. anybody on the spot, but I want you to think about this.

  46. This is a question you get or maybe a statement that you get

  47. fairly often when you are maybe not even sharing the gospel, but

  48. when you're in a conversation about something spiritual.

  49. And what I mean by that is sometimes you'll talk to

  50. somebody at work or, or you know, a family member or

  51. something like that, and the gospel doesn't always end up

  52. being given, but you're talking about biblical things or

  53. spiritual things. And So what a question that

  54. often comes up or like I said, maybe a statement that comes up

  55. is, well, I don't believe the Bible because it was written by

  56. men too. And so I want you to think about

  57. as we go through this lesson is what is your answer to that?

  58. Because it's pretty simple statement, but it but it if you

  59. don't have an answer for it, it leaves you kind of, you know it.

  60. It knocks your guard down because everything you're about

  61. to tell them is from the Bible, right?

  62. Well, the Bible says, and they just told you, I don't believe

  63. the Bible is written by men. So, So what is your answer to

  64. that? And we're going to, we're going

  65. to talk about that. Not that's not the whole lesson,

  66. but we will get to that at some, some point in the lesson.

  67. But I want you to think about it before I just tell you what my

  68. answer is in the, in those cases, because there's a, there

  69. is a very clear answer in the Bible does answer itself.

  70. But again, somebody says, I don't, well, I don't believe the

  71. Bible. That's almost always their

  72. reason, because it was written by men and you can't trust

  73. anything that men wrote and, and religions were all started by

  74. men and so on and so forth. But that is one that comes up

  75. pretty often by somebody who doesn't ascribe to any religion

  76. or, or whatever. And so think about that as we go

  77. through and then we'll answer that.

  78. If I forget to answer it or I'm not clear that I answered it,

  79. somebody raised their hand and I'll give you what my answer is.

  80. Typically when somebody when that comes up, but first Peter

  81. chapter one, verse 25, we'll read this and then we will pray

  82. and then we'll get into this lesson.

  83. But you know, the, the Bible is by far no question about it.

  84. I would, I, I wouldn't think anybody would even debate this,

  85. that it is the most important and the most long lasting book

  86. in the history of the world. I don't have the the stats in

  87. front of me, but there there's definitely stats that the Bible

  88. has been the best selling book in the world for decades and

  89. decades indexed every single year.

  90. They don't even list it in the top sellers because it's almost

  91. a given it's going to be the top seller and why.

  92. So why is that? Obviously it's important to

  93. anybody that ascribes to Christianity, but why?

  94. And the Bible even tells us the Bible itself in describing

  95. itself tells us that it will last for all of eternity, not

  96. just while we're here. Bible even says that the word of

  97. God is, is esteemed even higher than the name of Christ.

  98. So that's that's important. So first Peter chapter one,

  99. verse 25 and then we'll pray. And then I've got a few more

  100. verses I want to look at real quick before we really get into

  101. it. But verse 25 but the word of the

  102. Lord endureth forever. And this is the gospel.

  103. This is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

  104. So that word of the Lord that endures forever is the same one

  105. we're preaching to you is what Peter was saying.

  106. So, but it but the point here is that the word of the Lord

  107. endureth forever, not just while the world is here.

  108. It's forever. And it does make me wonder what

  109. role the word of God will have in heaven when we when we

  110. understand and we don't need all the prophecy and everything

  111. else, but it says it'll be there, but the word of God is

  112. going to be there. And so very, very important book

  113. to us and we're going to we're going to look at a an overview

  114. of the Bible here this evening just for a few minutes, but

  115. let's pray and we'll get into it.

  116. Father, I thank you for this day.

  117. You've given us God, I do thank you for your word.

  118. God, I I pray that you would forgive us for oftentimes taking

  119. your word too lightly that it's such an important book from you

  120. and, and got so often we just we, we disregard it.

  121. And so I just pray that you would help us as we look at this

  122. at the Bible for the next few weeks in our course here, that

  123. you would help us to really just put an emphasis on not just

  124. reading it, but knowing what it says and and getting the answers

  125. for everything we have in life. Every question that we get asked

  126. about our faith, that we would get it from your word and God,

  127. not just look to make something make sense to somebody, but we'd

  128. go to your word and answer it from there And got in order to

  129. do that, we need to study it. And so I pray that we just put a

  130. high priority on the words that we find here in this precious

  131. book that you've given us. Pray that you be with the lesson

  132. tonight in Jesus name, I pray, Amen.

  133. Turn to Isaiah chapter 40 and verse 8.

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  134. Isaiah chapter 40. Isaiah is never not different

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  135. than Isaiah. So Isaiah 40 verse 8, just want

    Isaiah 40:8

  136. to read a couple more books here, verses here about the

  137. Bible saying that it will be it will endure forever.

  138. Isaiah chapter 40, verse 8, the grass withereth, the flower

    Isaiah 40:8

  139. fadeth, but the word of our God shall stand forever.

  140. And the key that these weren't forever means forever.

  141. It's it's for eternity. Go to Matthew chapter 24 and

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  142. verse 35. I got you flipping around and

  143. that's not very conducive to taking notes, but hopefully

  144. we'll settle down here in a minute.

  145. Matthew chapter 24 and verse 35, Heaven and earth shall pass

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  146. away. Interesting, but my words shall

  147. not pass away. Never.

  148. So an important book that we have in front of us, an

  149. important an important book that we are holding in our hands.

  150. And I told you this a few months ago, maybe, maybe even longer

  151. than that, but Genesis chapter 1 and verse one, you can turn

    Genesis 1 chapter mention

  152. there if you want, but you know this verse, but it's, it's very

  153. important to remember. And we're going to look at this

  154. just for, for a little bit. But Genesis chapter one, verse

  155. one, first, first verse in the Bible, the Bible is not here to

  156. prove that God exists, right? Because in verse 1 of chapter

  157. one, in the beginning, God created the heaven and the

  158. earth. It does not give us any

  159. background to who he is. It doesn't try to try to explain

  160. who he is right there at the beginning.

  161. So the Bible's not necessarily here to prove that He does

  162. exist. It's just a given.

  163. He's here, He exists. And so, but then you'll see here

  164. in your lesson then. But what is the Bible?

  165. The Bible is the book that God has given to reveal Himself to

  166. mankind. It answers all of life's

  167. important questions, such as who is God?

  168. Where did man come from? What is the purpose of life?

  169. Why is the world filled with suffering?

  170. Why does man die? What happens after death?

  171. How can man get into a right relationship with God?

  172. Who is Jesus? Why did he die?

  173. What will happen in the future? And these are all questions that

  174. the the Bible answers. Now as you're going through that

  175. list, hopefully you're thinking in your head of the answers.

  176. But if you're because you will get asked these questions,

  177. especially when somebody's going through a tough time, why is the

  178. world filled with suffering? They might not ask that

  179. particular question, but they're going to say why do bad things

  180. happen to good people? Bible has the answer for that

  181. Job in particular, but other places, why?

  182. Well, that's that's what the Bible.

  183. That's why we study the Bible. That's why we have it.

  184. God gives us the answers to that here in his word.

  185. You know, Pastor mentioned this just a couple weeks ago, but in

  186. regards to this man, what was I going to say?

  187. I'm sorry. I got to think about something

  188. else here and why I think it had to do with why is the world

  189. philosophering? Why does good things happen to

  190. good people? Anyways, we'll move on.

  191. So basically, if I think of it, I'll, I'll come back to it.

  192. It'll it takes me a minute though.

  193. All right, so moving on in our lesson here, though, the Bible

  194. was written by 40 different prophets that God chose and they

  195. wrote the words that God gave them.

  196. And you can turn to second Peter one verse 21.

  197. We'll go there in a second, but they wrote the words that God

  198. gave them. It was written over a period of

  199. 1600 years from about 1500 BC to 90 AD, which we have.

  200. That's that's John in Revelation, right?

  201. He's that's the last book that was given to us.

  202. I want you to think about this forty different prophets over

  203. 1600 years. Now, this isn't the answer to

  204. our question when somebody asks, well, I don't believe the Bible

  205. because it was written by man. But, but this is a this is a

  206. really solid argument that 40 different men over a course of

  207. 1600 years were able to agree and not have one thing that that

  208. that differs that you can that you can have a conflict in the

  209. whole Bible. Think about this.

  210. I'm sure if you, if you read history or you know history at

  211. all, the Pope's right. I mean, the Pope's disagreed so

  212. much that there was, I don't remember the Pope.

  213. Maybe somebody does that knows history better than me.

  214. When his predecessor died, maybe one or two before him, he dug

  215. his bones up and had them burn because he disagreed so much

  216. with him. That's within what, 50 years, 60

  217. years, 100 years? This is over 1600 years.

  218. There's not a syllable of disagreement.

  219. How? Because God gave them the words

  220. to say. And we see that in second Peter

    2 Peter 1 chapter mention

  221. chapter 1 and verse 21. I don't have these written down,

  222. so I have to turn to them with you so I don't misquote them.

  223. But first Pete, second Peter 121 says for the prophecy came not

  224. in old time by the will of man, but holy men of God spake as

  225. they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

  226. That is key to the entire Bible being written.

  227. These weren't just 40 prophets that wrote whatever they felt

  228. like writing as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

  229. They wrote what God gave them over the course of 1600 years.

  230. OK, well, if it's the same Holy Spirit that's guiding them, then

  231. of course there's going to be no disagreements in the Scripture,

  232. but very, very key argument for, for, for God's word and, and the

  233. the authority that it holds. So then moving on in our in our

  234. lesson here, the word Bible is from the Greek word Biblios,

  235. which just means a book. The Bible is one book that

  236. speaks with one voice, but it is divided into two major sections.

  237. And this is the basics of it. But I'm telling you, somebody

  238. brand new to brand, newly saved and not been in church, they're

  239. not going to know this. OK, so it's divided into two

  240. major sections, sections the Old Testament and the New Testament.

  241. Further, there are 66 individual books in the Bible, 39 in the

  242. Old Testament and 27 in the New. I was going to quiz you on this,

  243. but it's right in front of you. So 27 in the new books are

  244. divided into chapters. And this is where what I was

  245. talking about. And each chapter is divided into

  246. verses for ease in locating passages, for example, John 316

  247. And we know this is the the book, the chapter and the verse.

  248. And I already mentioned this, this is so, so basic.

  249. We know this, but this is something we when you're

  250. disciple and you need to to teach as part of their

  251. discipleship, as part of their learning.

  252. All right, So Testament means covenant or agreement.

  253. And I want you to go actually, I'm going to give you a second

  254. to think about this while I while I read this.

  255. So give me a verse, think of a verse, maybe maybe not even the

  256. reference, but think of a verse that tells us in that what this

  257. next statement, OK, that agrees with this.

  258. All right, So is God's, the Old Testament is God's covenant with

  259. man through the law of Moses. And this is important because

  260. when we get to the New Testament, we'll see what the

  261. difference here is with the Old and the New Testament.

  262. But the Old Testament is God's covenant with man through the

  263. law of Moses. The law was given to prepare the

  264. way for the coming of Jesus by revealing God's holiness and

  265. man's sinfulness. So we have Romans chapter 3.

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  266. We'll read that. But while I'm reading that,

  267. think of another verse maybe that tells us exactly this, that

  268. the law was given to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus by

  269. revealing God's holiness and man's sinfulness.

  270. All right, and I'm going to read Romans chapter 3 while you think

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  271. of another reference verse 19. Now we know that what things so

  272. ever the law saith is saith to them who are under the law, that

  273. every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become guilty

  274. before God. So this is what it's saying is

  275. the law is here to make every man guilty before God.

  276. Therefore, by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be

  277. justified in his sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin,

  278. right? So I know of at least one other

  279. that's very, very clear telling us this.

  280. But can anybody think of 1, Miss Maxine?

  281. Yep, Yep. Does anybody know the reference

  282. to that, that the law is a schoolmaster?

  283. It's Galatians chapter 3 and verse 24.

    Galatians 3 chapter mention

  284. And I'll go there and read that the Galatians 324 if you want to

  285. write that down again, this is this is for your notes later

  286. when you're actually discipling. And I, I hope you're taking good

  287. notes because this this is very helpful.

  288. You will not remember back to the year long discipleship

  289. course that you listen to pastor saying all these things when

  290. you're standing in front of somebody trying to disciple

  291. them. So it's good to take these notes

  292. so that you can reflect back. But Glaciers chapter 324

  293. wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto

  294. Christ, that we might be justified by faith.

  295. But the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ.

  296. The whole point of the law was to show us you can't keep it.

  297. It's impossible. And the Bible even tells us if

  298. there, if you offend the law in one point, you're guilty of the

  299. whole law, right, You're guilty. And and so the law was there not

  300. to try to keep, but to show you can't keep it there.

  301. That's why I sent a Savior to fulfill the law.

  302. Anybody think of another reference?

  303. OK, that was the one I was thinking of as well.

  304. Galatians, chapter 3 and verse 2024.

    Galatians 3 chapter mention

  305. All right. Yeah. 24.

  306. OK, so moving on. The Old Testament was written

  307. primarily in Hebrew. And what other language?

  308. Anybody know? Primarily Hebrew, but it was it

  309. was in something else as well. Aramaic.

  310. Very good. So primarily Hebrew, but some

  311. Aramaic, the Old Testament is divided into the following major

  312. sections. And I, I assume everybody knows

  313. this, but maybe not. And so I'm not going to ask you,

  314. did you know this? But if you didn't know this,

  315. this is very, very, this is the reason the Bible is compiled the

  316. way it is. OK, so the book of Job, as far

  317. as we know, and it's pretty, pretty clear that that is one of

  318. the first books, if not the first book that was, that was

  319. written. So why is it in the middle of

  320. the Bible, right next to Psalms? Well, we're going to look at

  321. that. OK, so the Old Testament is

  322. divided into the following major sections.

  323. And obviously you can divide it up a little bit more.

  324. These are the major ones. The law, which is the

  325. Pentateuch, which penta is five. So there, that's the first five

  326. books of the Bible is called the Pentateuch.

  327. And now very interesting. But the, he, the Jewish young

  328. boys, by the time they were five years old, memorized all five

  329. books, memorized all five books of the Pentateuch.

  330. It was the law. It's what they had to go on.

  331. And so they, it was so important to them, they would memorize all

  332. five of those books. By the time they were young, 5-6

  333. years old, they knew what the, what the Bible said, which is

  334. why when you now have Jesus coming in and debating with the,

  335. with the doctors in, in the temple, it wasn't so crazy that

  336. he would have understood the law because they memorized it.

  337. They knew it. Now debating, it's a different

  338. story, but they didn't know what it said anyway.

  339. So those are the first five books, the Pentateuch, meaning

  340. five books. It describes the creation of

  341. heaven and earth. And, and as you go through,

  342. you'll, you know, this describes creation of heaven and earth and

  343. man, the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, the worldwide

  344. flood of Noah's day, the Tower of Babel, and the multiplication

  345. of the languages, the call of Abraham in the beginning of the

  346. Jewish nation through Abraham's sons, who were over his two

  347. sons, Isaac and Ishmael, Right. And to this very day, they're

  348. still fighting. That's that's what we have in

  349. the Middle East, where there's no peace.

  350. It's Abraham's sons. Ishmael and Isaac, but Israel's

  351. Egyptian bondage and Exodus and the giving of God's law,

  352. including the 10 commandments. So that's the law.

  353. The first five books of the Bible, Genesis, Exodus,

  354. Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.

  355. And then we have history, which is Joshua to Esther.

  356. So remember, these books are not all in order of, of

  357. chronologically of of when they were written, but they're placed

  358. here because they're history books.

  359. So now you have Joshua to Esther.

  360. This section contains the history of Israel, the Jewish

  361. nation from the time of the conquering of the promised land

  362. to the Babylonian captivity. And I won't belabor any of these

  363. points because it's these are just facts.

  364. But this is this those Joshua to Esther is the books of history

  365. in the in the Old Testament. Then you have the poetic books,

  366. which is Job to Song of Solomon. This section deals with the

  367. worship of God and profound questions of life, such as the

  368. purpose of suffering and the seeming vanity of earthly

  369. existence. And again, This is why Job is

  370. here, because it's in this section the poetic books of the

  371. Bible. So Job, Job falls here.

  372. Most importantly, the profound questions of life, such as the

  373. purpose of suffering. I was just talking to Gray

  374. today. I think he's probably watching

  375. online, but he just finished the book of Job and there for a

  376. little bit he was confused about what what do we what does Job

  377. even say it? I don't understand what's going

  378. on. And and that is why it's helpful

  379. that maybe have in get a Bible that has little titles, because

  380. you know, mine doesn't. But in a Bible that has titles,

  381. it'll tell you, OK, now this friend is responding back to

  382. Job. OK, now Job is responding back

  383. to that friend. And, but, but at the end of Job,

  384. the big, some of those big questions come up and God tells

  385. Job, where were you when I, when I created the world?

  386. I can have mercy on whoever I have mercy on.

  387. And so those are some of those big questions.

  388. But that's the poetic books. Then you have the prophets,

  389. Isaiah, the Malachi. This section contains prophecies

  390. concerning Israel, mankind as a whole, and Jesus Christ.

  391. And this is where we have so many of the prophecies of Christ

  392. that he ended up fulfilling perfectly in the New Testament.

  393. But that's in these books, Isaiah to Malachi some another

  394. interesting point there is, you know, if you the Jews do not

  395. believe the New Testament at all, right?

  396. A typical a a actual Jews. So there's Messianic Jews, but

  397. the Jews that hold to the Jewish religion, to Judaism, do not

  398. believe the New Testament is, is the Bible.

  399. And because they don't believe Jesus actually has the Messiah

  400. has come yet. So that naturally they wouldn't

  401. believe any of that. But if you read Isaiah chapter

    Isaiah 53 chapter mention

  402. 53 to them, they are convinced that's not the old test in the

  403. Old Testament. And it is because it's so

  404. prophetic of exactly what happened to Christ and all those

  405. prophecies that he fulfilled. And they're shocked when they

  406. find out that's in their in their part of the Bible that

  407. they believe because they don't teach it because they have no

  408. explanation for it. But it's a prophecy of Christ.

  409. So that's the Old Testament and I told you it's this is

  410. highlights, this is high overview and and we're not going

  411. to get anything, anything deep tonight.

  412. But now the New Testament. So refer back to that first

  413. sentence. Old Testament is God's covenant

  414. with man through the law of Moses on that first page.

  415. Now the New Testament is God's covenant with man through the

  416. salvation purchased by Christ. New Testament contains the

  417. account of Christ's miraculous birth, life, death, resurrection

  418. and ascension to heaven, the teachings of Christ's apostles,

  419. and the prophecies of the future.

  420. And again, we know all this, but somebody new to church or, or

  421. newly saved is probably not going to know anything about

  422. what they're looking at here. And so this is really good to

  423. help them understand why the Bible's broken up the way it is

  424. and, and where they can find certain things.

  425. But the New Testament was written in the Greek language.

  426. New Testament is divided into the following major sections.

  427. And so we'll look at these real quick.

  428. The Gospels, and we're very familiar with these Matthew,

  429. Mark, Luke and John. The four gospels give the birth,

  430. life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ.

  431. They also contain prophecies of his second coming.

  432. But Matthew, Mark, Luke and John, you're going to find

  433. almost the exact same stories, right?

  434. Because they, because they were apostles that saw the exact same

  435. things and then just write it in their own, in their own style as

  436. God gave them liberty to do that.

  437. So you have the gospels and then you have the Acts of the

  438. Apostles, which is the name of the book of Acts.

  439. It's actually called the Acts of the Apostles.

  440. The book of Acts contains the history of of the establishment

  441. and spread of the first churches.

  442. And that is a good book to go just read straight through

  443. because if you break it all up, it gets gets to where you can't

  444. remember what you read the day before exactly.

  445. But if you read straight through the book Acts, it's makes a lot

  446. of sense and it really flows like it like a book.

  447. They're just giving you a history of the establishment of

  448. the church, which is pastor mentioned that a while ago where

  449. the the church was conceived in the Gospels and then actually

  450. birthed in Acts. And I think that's a really good

  451. way to look at it. But then you have Paul's

  452. epistles. The Pauline epistles is what

  453. they're often referred to, which pretty naturally natural

  454. explanation that Paul wrote. Paul wrote those epistles or

  455. letters epistles, just a letter, but those are the books of

  456. Romans to find Lemon. And it says here, these are the

  457. letters written by the Apostle Paul to instruct various

  458. churches and individuals in Christian doctrine.

  459. And you could think very clearly there First and Second

  460. Corinthians where he was instructing, he was exhorting

  461. and, and, and, and fixing problems in the churches.

  462. So those books are Paul's epistles to churches.

  463. And, and very likely, and I'm no expert, but the experts say that

  464. they would have gotten those books or those letters and then

  465. spread them around to the other churches in the areas and they

  466. all would have read those letters.

  467. They weren't only for the Corinthians, but it was written

  468. to the Corinthians where he addressed some of their issues.

  469. And then they would pass them around and, and use what was

  470. important in their church from them.

  471. But that's where Paul was writing to the churches.

  472. And then you have the general epistles, Hebrews to Jude, and

  473. these are called the general epistles because they were not

  474. written to churches, but they were written for Christians in

  475. general. And so it says here they were

  476. written by Paul, James, Peter, Jude and John and I, I wrote

  477. this down, but it's not, it's not really, it's not really

  478. separated this way. But with the Pauline epistles,

  479. this is where we get a lot of instruction concerning how the

  480. church should operate. But as I started thinking about

  481. it, there's a lot of that in the other epistles too.

  482. So it's not a clear mark, even though those books were written

  483. to churches and the other ones were written to individuals or

  484. Christians in general. There's a lot for individuals in

  485. the in the Pauline epistles and a lot for churches in the

  486. general epistles as well. But that's where we get when

  487. pastor says we hold to the Bible as close as we know how.

  488. That's where we're getting what we do in our church from those

  489. books right there. And and you'll also hear them

  490. say, if there's anything we're doing that is not in the Bible

  491. or it disagrees with the Bible, it needs to be brought up.

  492. We're trying to do exactly what God has us to do and what he

  493. gave us to do. Remember at the very beginning

  494. there we said this is this is God's book for us, for our

  495. lives. And so if we're doing something

  496. because it's tradition and that's the only reason and it's

  497. not biblical, then we will change it anyways.

  498. So then the last book is Revelation, which is the book of

  499. prophecy in the New Testament. It's the only book of prophecy

  500. in the New Testament. And this book contains

  501. prophecies about the end of the age.

  502. So, and then you see there the relationship between the Old New

  503. Testament can be seen in the following comparisons.

  504. In the Old Testament, we have promise most most importantly of

  505. the coming Messiah. In the New Testament, we have

  506. fulfillment of those prophecies. In the Old Testament, we have

  507. preparation, New Testament, we have presentation in the Old

  508. Testament, we have the foundation in the New Testament,

  509. we have the building and, and that can refer to a number of

  510. different things. But I, I think of the foundation

  511. for the church that was coming, right?

  512. The church age was coming. And then in the New Testament,

  513. we actually have that being built by Christ himself and the

  514. gates of hell will not prevail against it.

  515. So Bible is very, very, very important.

  516. This is obviously if you look, I don't have my book up here, but

  517. I think in there's two more, at least two more sections on the

  518. Bible. That's where we get into the

  519. inspiration of the Bible, the preservation of the Bible and

  520. and all of that, how it was written and and what happened so

  521. that it could be written. And pastor will get into those

  522. in the in the coming weeks. He entrusted this easy one to

  523. me. So and anyways, so back to our

  524. question then. Does anybody want to raise their

  525. hand and give me their answer on what you would say if somebody

  526. said, well, I don't believe the Bible because it was written by

  527. men, Miss Maxine? Yeah, but I don't believe that

  528. that's in the Bible. OK, Now just remember when

  529. you're giving them Bible verses, and I don't disagree with you

  530. and those are good, good verses, but I've had this happen before.

  531. I've literally been said, well, the Bible says in and he's like,

  532. I don't believe that. I don't.

  533. What do you say? The map because everything in

  534. the Bible. OK, yeah, sure.

  535. All right. And I'll maybe to to good

  536. answer, but maybe to steer us kind of back.

  537. I I think maybe I'm, I'm I'm thinking even more of it was

  538. written by men. OK, So what do you say to that?

  539. Yeah, it's and that's why that's why I mentioned it's a really

  540. solid argument that there's no disagreement.

  541. There's OK, good, Daniel. That's extremely important That

  542. that I think is the key. But go ahead.

  543. Anybody else? Is that Diana I truly believe?

  544. We have the proof all when you see all around.

  545. For example, the nature, the science when discover things is

  546. already the Bible. How they knew if it wasn't the.

  547. You know, yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean it.

  548. And you've heard this, I'm sure. But anywhere the Bible's not a

  549. history book, but anywhere it references history, it's right.

  550. Even if it takes millennia for them to figure out, wow, this is

  551. David was real. So anywhere it references

  552. history, it's right. That's a good argument.

  553. Science same way sometimes, in fact, often science that man

  554. hasn't even figured out yet, but it's referenced in the Bible.

  555. And then we finally figured out and we go, whoa, the life is in

  556. the blood. They killed George Washington

  557. letting his blood out and then finally realized, oh, the life

  558. is in the blood. OK, we need to stop doing that.

  559. So I was not a science book, but it's it's accurate in all

  560. science. Any anybody else Trey best

  561. selling book 1000 years in a row can't just be made by men.

  562. OK anybody else miss my Lisa? One thing that actually is that.

  563. The best was a point is watch movies

  564. about Caesar and you believe that, but they only have a

  565. couple hundred major groups that proved that they existed.

  566. The Bible is over 5000. That alone tells you there's a

  567. lot of cross referencing happening that it does exist.

  568. And then another thing that I've seen people use is around like,

  569. well, you, you trust a pilot to fly you and go off the, the, the

  570. the airplane vehicle to be able to fly the plane, but you won't

  571. trust the Bible just teaching you about your salvation.

  572. So yeah, I've seen different rules like that.

  573. Sure. And that's one of the that's a

  574. good argument to make when somebody's saying, well, how do

  575. we know Jesus existed? We have history books of George

  576. Washington. You never saw him.

  577. You don't know anybody who did see him.

  578. You have no eyewitness is still alive.

  579. But we believe that, right? Why?

  580. Why is Jesus any different? It's a good argument for, you

  581. know, some of the things in the Bible, Brother John, they all

  582. match. Up to everything about?

  583. Town inquired. That doesn't matter.

  584. Sure, it's all you know. Almost 100%, yeah.

  585. Yeah. And he'll get into some of that,

  586. I'm sure, with preservation and all of that.

  587. OK OK. Anybody else?

  588. Oh, man, we're going to go all night.

  589. Yes. Yeah.

  590. That is, it's a solid, solid. I mean, you have to honestly

  591. have to be an idiot in in the real sense of the word idiot.

  592. You have to be an idiot to see all the prophecy, all the

  593. fulfillment and say, I don't think I think man came up with

  594. that. It's impossible by any

  595. statistic. It's impossible.

  596. But I saw another hand up somewhere.

  597. But Johnny, yeah, I would, I would say, is to truly prove to

  598. us how loving God is, how patient he is and how compact.

  599. Yeah, yeah. And so are we good or does

  600. anybody have a really good point they need to make?

  601. All right, I don't want to keep us here too late, but I'm going

  602. to close with it and mine is actually so this is a very

  603. simple answer, real close to Daniels and and brother Johnny's

  604. because some of the and nobody's, I'm not saying

  605. anybody's wrong. Those are all great arguments

  606. for the Bible. But the what I was really

  607. picking at is when somebody says, I don't believe it because

  608. men wrote it and that and they're putting an emphasis on

  609. that. Usually when they say that men

  610. wrote it, they could have wrote anything any man could.

  611. The key is right there from from first second Peter 121 that holy

  612. men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

  613. It's very important. So my argument is I liked

  614. Brother Gary always teaches with an object lesson.

  615. It gets your attention, but it also gives you something to

  616. remember. I always use that.

  617. If you wrote a book, you use a pen, right?

  618. And so it would be silly for somebody saying, Nah, the pen

  619. wrote that book. So therefore that pen could have

  620. made a mistake. The pen wrote it, but the pen

  621. didn't think, the pen didn't articulate.

  622. You did. It's exactly what God did with

  623. men. He used the men as the tools to

  624. write his book. He gave them exactly what to

  625. write, gave them a little freedom in giving their style or

  626. maybe like the gospels giving their version of events.

  627. But he told them right this, this is what I want us 2000

  628. years later to know. That's what I want them to know

  629. is in the New Testament and and much older than that with the

  630. Old Testament, but they were just the pen that God used to

  631. write the word of God. And I mean that in in as much

  632. respect as as you can give. They weren't.

  633. And and the proof of that is in Daniel.

  634. Daniel even says, I'm not exactly sure what I'm talking

  635. about here in this prophecy, but this is what God told me to

  636. write. How can you write about write a

  637. prophecy of some of you have no idea what you're talking about.

  638. And and it comes to pass because God gave them what to write.

  639. They were just the tools actually writing it, physically

  640. writing it down. So when somebody says, well, men

  641. wrote that, yeah, but not not really.

  642. God did, God wrote the book and he used men to do it because if

  643. you said, well, God wrote this book, they, they would argue

  644. about that too. How could God write the book?

  645. God's not even a physical person.

  646. So, but that's that's and hopefully that's not too simple

  647. of an argument, But I was, I was that specific question though,

  648. or that specific statement. I don't believe it because men

  649. wrote it, but they didn't. God gave them.

  650. That's the word the the word Theopnoustos.

  651. It's God breathed life into this book, but through the men that

  652. he inspired or that he breathed those words through.

  653. John is another one. John's trying to write

  654. revelation and he doesn't understand what he's seeing

  655. because God gave it to him and gave him exactly what to write.

  656. And so I, I've told you all about the guy that is proud of

  657. his atheism at work, but that was one of the one of the

  658. arguments he made. And when I, when I said this to

  659. him or we, we got to talking about this, he kind of was like,

  660. I can see that because it's silliness to argue that.

  661. Well, the pen wrote that book and, and actually have that as a

  662. legitimate argument, right? Pen wrote that.

  663. So I don't believe it. But they do that with the Bible

  664. and act like it's a good argument.

  665. Yeah, yeah, men wrote that, but God gave that to them.

  666. To write. But anyways, so we're we're

  667. done. But the Bible so important it it

  668. is not the reason we spend so much time on the word of God and

  669. so much time studying it. And because it is the answer for

  670. everything we have. And it is the only answer we

  671. have for the lost the world around us.

  672. And you know, sometimes I hear people talk even on, on YouTube

  673. or podcasts or whatever, and they just talking and talking

  674. and talking good arguments, but not biblical.

  675. I mean, that's, it's fine to philosophy and everything else,

  676. but you're just philosophy. We, we need the truth to go grab

  677. a hold of because somebody can tear apart an argument you make

  678. from a common sense standpoint. They can, they can pick that

  679. apart, but they can't pick apart the truth, the eternal truth of

  680. God's word. And so we need to know what it

  681. says and, and know how to articulate questions from it and

  682. answer according to what the Bible says.

  683. So anyways, we'll have I think next week, I think next week

  684. we'll be in Part 2. I think it's a normal Wednesday

  685. faster. We'll be back.

  686. So, but anyways, let's pray. We're not going to have an

  687. invitation. We'll pray.
