  1. Hi there. Welcome to NECF. We're excited to share

  2. today's message with you. Don't go anywhere.

  3. Stay with us till the end for some valuable resources

  4. to enrich your faith. Here's today's sermon.

  5. Hallelujah. Thank God for the opportunity to

  6. be in church. living worthy of the kingdom, the

  7. kingdom of God. You know, we've been studying

  8. the book of Philippians for, this is the third

  9. time today. And the last time we stopped at,

  10. where did we stop? We stopped at chapter 2, verse

  11. what? All right, verse 2. Chapter 2, verse 11.

  12. Amen. So we, in case you are new here, we've

  13. been considering a topic, living worthy of the

  14. kingdom. And as a background, what we've been...

  15. we've been seeing or we've been studying together,

  16. as believers, we've established that we belong

  17. to the kingdom of God. Now, when you become born

  18. again or when you become a believer, what we

  19. mean by being a believer is someone that believes

  20. in Jesus Christ as his Lord and as Savior. We

  21. call you a believer because you believe in this

  22. truth that Jesus Christ is God who became man

  23. and came down on earth. And then he died for

  24. the forgiveness of the sins of men. This is what

  25. embodies the Christian faith. Without this foundational

  26. truth, then we cannot consider you a Christian.

  27. Because what makes you a Christian is the faith

  28. you have in this truth. But first of all, God

  29. became man. And in his humanity, he died. He

  30. suffered and then he died. He died on the cross.

  31. And the reason why he had to die... was for the

  32. sins of men. He became a substitution for men.

  33. So all who believe in this truth come into a

  34. union with God. They come into fellowship with

  35. God. And so we that believe are called Christians.

  36. In chapter 2 from verse 5 thereabout, we see

  37. where Paul was using the concept, was using the

  38. example of Jesus Christ to explain the humility

  39. that we often have as men. He says, let this

  40. mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus.

  41. Who is this Christ Jesus? Verse 6, he said, who

  42. being in the form of God, rather we'll say, who

  43. is God, did not consider it robbery to be equal

  44. with God, but made himself of no reputation.

  45. This is what Jesus Christ went through. He made

  46. himself of no reputation, taking the form of

  47. a born servant and coming in the likeness of

  48. men. So Jesus Christ, was not created. Jesus

  49. Christ is not part of the creation, but he is

  50. God. Who decided to take the likeness of men,

  51. was it? And being found in the appearance of

  52. a man, he humbled himself and became obedient

  53. to the point of death. And this death is the

  54. death of a criminal, the death of someone that

  55. has committed an offense. that the consequences

  56. of that offense is death on the cross. Therefore,

  57. in this death, God also has highly exalted him

  58. and has given him the name, not a name, but specifically

  59. gave him the name, which is above every other

  60. name, that at the name of Jesus, every knee should

  61. bow of those in the heaven and of those on the

  62. earth and of those under the earth. And that

  63. every tongue confesses that Jesus Christ is Lord

  64. to the glory of God the Father. So we pitched

  65. our tent here last time. And we established that

  66. as kingdom citizens, we have to live in peace

  67. and harmony with one another. This was one of

  68. the content of Paul's letter to the Philippians.

  69. As kingdom citizens, we have to live in peace

  70. with one another and harmony with one another.

  71. having the same mind and your full accord, because

  72. a kingdom that we belong to, when it is divided,

  73. when we are separated, when we are not in unity,

  74. when we are not living in harmony, there is no

  75. how we will fulfill the purpose of God for our

  76. lives. There is no how we will be able to do

  77. the biddings of God on earth, except we walk

  78. together, except we are united. Nobody can serve

  79. the purpose of God alone. Nobody has the ability

  80. to serve the purpose of God alone. So we saw

  81. how important it is for us to live in harmony.

  82. And we said also that the kingdom of God is a

  83. kingdom of honor. We live honoring one another

  84. regardless of status. Whether you are young,

  85. you're old, whether you are rich or you're poor,

  86. whether you are European or African, whatever

  87. country you're coming from, whether you're a

  88. leader or you're a worker, whatever your position

  89. is in society, we live. honoring one another.

  90. And honor is our culture as Christians. Honor

  91. is our lifestyle as Christians. We honor one

  92. another because God dwells in each and every

  93. believer. So we honor one another because God

  94. lives in us. And we said that this kingdom is

  95. a kingdom that is also defined by selflessness.

  96. Sacrificial living is what defines the culture

  97. of This kingdom of God we belong to. And we saw

  98. this exemplified in the early church where they

  99. lived their life sacrificially. They gave their

  100. all. They ensured that none among them was in

  101. lack. They sold their properties. They shared

  102. among themselves their resources. And none was

  103. in lack of anything. So selflessness is what

  104. also... describe the kind of kingdom that we

  105. belong to. So if we belong to the kingdom of

  106. God, then we must live worthy of our kingdom.

  107. We must be able to express this culture of our

  108. kingdom, which is sacrificial living. Hallelujah.

  109. So we also emphasize a point here last time about

  110. humility. And of course, we saw Paul use Jesus

  111. Christ as an example for us to learn from, to

  112. emulate always. Hallelujah. So from verse 12,

  113. he says, therefore, verse 12 to 18, he says,

  114. therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed,

  115. not as in my presence only, but how much more

  116. in my absence, work out your own salvation with

  117. fear and what? And trembling. For it is God who

  118. works in you both to will and to do for his good

  119. pleasure. Do all things without complaining and

  120. disputing, that you may become blameless and

  121. harmless children of God without fault in the

  122. midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among

  123. whom you shine as light in the world, following

  124. fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice

  125. in the day of Christ, that I have not run in

  126. vain. Yes, and if I am being poured out as a

  127. drink offering on the sacrifice and service of

  128. your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.

  129. Verse 18. For the same reason, you also be glad

  130. and rejoice with me. Hallelujah. So from this

  131. part of the epistles, we see Paul here is writing

  132. to the church and is calling them. to shine as

  133. light in what? In a crooked generation. You know,

  134. the word crooked here is a metaphor. Amen? It's

  135. a metaphor for a generation that is perverse,

  136. a generation that is not acknowledging God, a

  137. generation that does not live to honor God. And

  138. if Paul can call his own generation crooked,

  139. then I don't know what Paul will say to our generation

  140. today. Twisted would be an understatement because

  141. I don't know how corrupt his generation was compared

  142. to our generation today. But despite the nature

  143. of the society as of then, Paul is calling them

  144. to what? To live as light, to be the light in

  145. their generation. So we must also go back, you

  146. know, and put ourselves in the position of the

  147. Philippian church and contextualize this text

  148. to our own generation. It's a calling upon the

  149. believer. To do what? To live as what? To shine

  150. as light in the world, in this world, in this

  151. world. Hallelujah. So from the first part of

  152. verse 12, let's take it a bit slowly. It says,

  153. Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed,

  154. not as in my presence only, but how much more

  155. in my absence. So here Paul is requiring their

  156. obedience. to God's word in his absence, even

  157. as they've always obeyed what in his presence.

  158. He says, as you have always obeyed, not as in

  159. my word, in my presence only, which means that

  160. they've always obeyed in his presence. And what

  161. he's calling them to do here is not only to obey

  162. as he was in their presence with them, but how

  163. much more in his absence he require them to continue.

  164. to live in the obedience of God's word. Their

  165. obedience to God's word must not be for eye service.

  166. Amen? For them to be able to shine as light in

  167. a crooked generation, for them to be able to

  168. live a life worthy of their calling as children

  169. of God, as members of God's family, they must

  170. be able to live in obedience even in this absence.

  171. while he is there with them and even in his absence.

  172. So also our obedience to God's word must be on

  173. sight and off sight. If I'm using the right word.

  174. We must be very intentional about our word, our

  175. living, to honor God with our lives. Their obedience

  176. must not be when Paul is with them because some

  177. people can want to be obedient, especially because

  178. the Apostle Paul is around. So they want to demonstrate,

  179. they want to live. In light of the word, when

  180. they come to church, everybody looks holy and

  181. spiritual. But when they travel to a new location,

  182. the dynamics of their life changes because they

  183. are out of sight. We see Jesus speaking similarly

  184. in his teaching. Matthew 6, verse 1 to 4. Matthew

    Matthew 6:1–4 Matthew 6:1–4

  185. 6, verse 1 to 4. Jesus speaking in a similar

  186. tone. He says, take heed that you do not do your

  187. charitable deeds before men. to be seen by men,

  188. otherwise you have no reward from your Father

  189. in heaven. Now, our Father is in heaven. Therefore,

  190. when you do charitable deeds, do not sound a

  191. trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the

  192. synagogues and the streets that they may have

  193. glory from men. So the focus of what they do

  194. here is for men to see. The goal of their...

  195. Good works of their righteousness. Some translations

  196. would translate the charity work as righteousness.

  197. Their righteousness, the things they do which

  198. are right before men, is for men to see. Their

  199. goodness is for men to see. Do not sound a trumpet

  200. before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues

  201. and in the streets, that they may have glory

  202. from who? From men. So their focus is to please

  203. men. Their glory is from men. Of course, this

  204. language here, right? Verse 4. Hallelujah. So

  205. the focus of the righteous act here is what?

  206. It's for men to see their goodness. It's for

  207. men to see their goodness. I want us to read

  208. this in the NLT. Give me this text. It's in Matthew

  209. 6 in the NLT. It says, Don't do as hypocrites

  210. do, blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets

  211. to call attention to their acts of charity. So

  212. what they do is for sure, is for men, for men

  213. to see that, oh, this person is charitable, this

  214. person is good, this person is righteous, this

  215. person is living right. I tell you the truth,

  216. they have received all their rewards, all the

  217. rewards they will ever get. But when you give

  218. to someone in need, which is the charitable,

  219. which is the goodness, the work of righteousness,

  220. don't let your left hand know what your right

  221. hand is doing. Verse 4. Give your gift in private,

  222. and your Father who sees everything will reward

  223. you. And also Matthew 23. Matthew 23 in the NLT,

  224. still in the NLT. Matthew 23, verse 1. Then Jesus

    Matthew 23:1

  225. said to the crowds and to his disciples, the

  226. teachers of the religious law and the Pharisees,

  227. are the official interpreters of the law of Moses.

  228. So, practice and obey whatever they tell you.

  229. Don't follow their example. Now, it's an example

  230. that is a focus here. For they don't practice

  231. what they teach. They crush people with impossible

  232. religious demands and never lift a finger to

  233. ease the burden. Look at verse 5. It says, everything

  234. they do is what? It's for show. On their arms,

  235. they wear... Extra white prayer boxes, you know,

  236. in the Jewish tradition. They write, you know,

  237. today we have armbands, right? They write prayers.

  238. They have, yes, prayer shows. In our generation

  239. today, we say you have t -shirts that have design

  240. of Jesus over it. You know, you have walking

  241. the light behind you. And I'm a child of God

  242. in the front of your shirt. And look at the way

  243. they dress. And they wear robes with extra long

  244. tassels. They look holy from their appearance.

  245. They look godly from their appearance. Full of

  246. sure. Just stop at verse 5. And everything they

  247. do, the Bible says is what? It's for sure. It's

  248. for sure. It's for sure. So that men will see

  249. and reckon them as what? As righteous people.

  250. As people that are holy and righteous. But that

  251. is not the intent for God. That's not the intent

  252. of God for us rather. The motive for doing good

  253. must be to honor God and not men. Hallelujah.

  254. The intent of living a righteous life is not

  255. for men to see. It's for God to be honored. So

  256. Paul would tell the church, even in my absence,

  257. which means that my absence doesn't matter. Whether

  258. I am present or I am absent, there's no difference.

  259. You have a responsibility in my absence and in

  260. my presence. Only one thing, that God must be

  261. glorified. That you must live worthy, that your

  262. life... must be in order of your professional

  263. faith. That your life must be an example of the

  264. kingdom you belong to. So the motive for living

  265. right is not for men to see. It's not for the

  266. leaders in the church to see that you are doing

  267. well. It's not for you to show to people that

  268. you are righteous. I said you or we will know

  269. your motive after you have done good. If no one

  270. appreciates or recognizes your efforts. We will

  271. know your motive in church as we relate with

  272. one another, as we serve each other, as we do

  273. good to each other. We will know what your motive

  274. is, right? When someone does not even recognize

  275. the good that you are doing, when you do good

  276. to somebody and the person, you know, the leaders

  277. don't even see, they don't even see, you know,

  278. in this church, nobody sees the things I do,

  279. the effort I'm putting, right? Nobody sees the

  280. good that you are doing. Nobody appreciates you.

  281. Nobody even recognizes, just recognize, you know,

  282. the help that you render to this person. Nobody

  283. even chooses to recognize and it becomes a big

  284. problem for you. It's a symptom that you need

  285. to check the motive to why you are doing that

  286. thing. It's a litmus test, right? To the motive

  287. behind what you do. Are you doing it so that

  288. men will applaud you? So that men will say, ah,

  289. well done, you've done it well. So that men will

  290. see and say, ah, this brother is a righteous

  291. man. This sister is a righteous person. Oh, you're

  292. doing it so that God, who sees in secret, will

  293. be honored by the life that you've lived, by

  294. the good conduct you've kept, by the things you

  295. do. Our motives must be right. So your good conduct

  296. must not be because leaders are seeing you, but

  297. you must be consistent inside and even when you're

  298. not on site. You must be consistent online and

  299. even when you're offline. You must be consistent

  300. regardless of... The location you find yourself,

  301. you know, thank God for Cyprus. Cyprus is a transitional

  302. place for all of us. People come and go. We've

  303. seen people transform. Immediately, they leave

  304. this environment. All of a sudden, we see their

  305. posts even on social media changes. All of a

  306. sudden, we see even their addresses begin to

  307. change. We begin to wonder. So this sister, no,

  308. not any CF sisters, in Jesus' name, but this

  309. sister, the way she was looking, the way she

  310. used to dress this way in Cyprus, the moment

  311. she leaves this environment, Is it that there's

  312. a transformation that happens immediately you

  313. leave this place? Or when you were in your country,

  314. in Nigeria, wherever country, you were looking

  315. so holy and righteous. And the moment you leave

  316. the comfort of your parents' house, or where

  317. you are known, and you land in a place where

  318. you are not known, then we see a manifestation

  319. of a new person. The rebirth of a new person.

  320. Actually, that is who you used to be. There's

  321. nothing that changes. So, if you are a believer,

  322. you must ensure, we must trust God, that our

  323. life is consistent. We call this integrity. Hallelujah.

  324. That we are consistent in our identity regardless

  325. of where and when. Hallelujah. That we are known

  326. same wherever we find ourselves. It's a responsibility

  327. upon us as believers. This is how we will truly,

  328. truly shine the light in this dark and crooked

  329. generation. This is how you and I will be able

  330. to reflect the nature of God in this generation.

  331. We must be consistent. Of course, there's room

  332. for us to grow. Hallelujah. There's room for

  333. us to keep growing. We keep getting better. But

  334. let it not be that you are known as A here. And

  335. on the other end, you are C or you are B. We

  336. must have a consistent identity. And our identity

  337. must be that we are God's children. And in our

  338. lifestyle, it's consistently growing from good

  339. to the best. Hallelujah. So Paul here is telling

  340. them to do what? to obey in His absence as they've

  341. always obeyed, even in His presence. In the second

  342. part of the verse, verse 12, it says, You know,

  343. this has usually been misinterpreted to mean

  344. that the Christian must work out their salvation

  345. with fear and trembling so as not to lose it.

  346. First and foremost, The context of the conversation

  347. here, as we have seen, right from chapter 1,

  348. right, into chapter 2, even from the first verses

  349. in chapter 2, is not about salvation per se,

  350. how to be saved or how to keep your salvation.

  351. The context is that believers who are already

  352. saved are asked to do what? To live a life worthy

  353. of their identity. to live an exemplary life

  354. of Christ as they already have in them. So in

  355. chapter 1, verse 6, we see categorically, in

  356. chapter 1, verse 6 of Philippians, we see Paul

  357. would say, being confident of this very thing,

  358. that he who has begun a good work in you, which

  359. means that these people, God has already did

  360. a work in them. He has already done a work in

  361. them. That he who has begun a good work in you,

  362. and this good work... is the salvation of their

  363. lives. So this God has begun a good work in them

  364. who completed until the day of Jesus Christ.

  365. So Paul has already articulated from this verse,

  366. from the beginning, clearly that God is faithful

  367. to keep the believers. So we cannot assert that

  368. the believer in this verse is walking out of

  369. salvation, is keeping himself, is keeping his

  370. salvation. God is the one that is faithful. To

  371. keep the believer. So Paul cannot come in chapter

  372. 2, verse 12, and ask them to work to secure or

  373. to preserve their salvation. And that would be

  374. a contradiction. In verse 13, we see clearly,

  375. because, of course, it's the same conversation.

  376. It says, for it is God, because he didn't stop

  377. in verse 2. He says, for it is God who works

  378. in you, but to do what? But to will and to do

  379. for his good pleasure. So God is the one that

  380. is working in the believer. We must read the

  381. scripture not in phrases if we must understand

  382. the scriptures. To make meaning in order to interpret,

  383. we mustn't just read in phrases because reading

  384. in phrases will lead us to misinterpretation

  385. of a text. So I want us to read verse 6 concurrently

  386. together with verse 13 and we'll make sense of

  387. God's faithfulness in this conversation. Verse

  388. 6, chapter 1, verse 6. It says, being confident

  389. of this very thing, maybe media can keep... Give

  390. us chapter 1, verse 6, and also chapter 2, verse

  391. 13 together. I want to see the consistency of

  392. Paul's communication here. He says, And then

  393. he made a statement again in verse 13 of chapter

  394. 2. He says, but to will and to do of his good

  395. pleasure. This in no way relinquish the responsibility

  396. of giving the believer to himself. Hallelujah.

  397. God himself is responsible for what? For giving

  398. the believer. So salvation is completely the

  399. work of God in the life of the believer and not

  400. the believer's effort. Ephesians 2, verse 8 to

    Ephesians 2:8–9

  401. 9, you can see that there. Ephesians 2, verse

    Ephesians 2:8–9

  402. 8 to 9 talks about, you know, by grace we've

  403. been saved and it's none of our works, but it

  404. is God's work in us for grace. By grace you've

  405. been saved through faith and that not of yourself,

  406. it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest anyone

  407. should boast. And God will finish what he has

  408. established in the believer. Hebrews 7, verse

    Hebrews 7:25

  409. 25. Hebrews 7, 25. He says, therefore, he is

  410. also able. Who is able? The Christian? Who is

  411. able? God is able to the autumns, to save to

  412. the autumns those who come to God through him

  413. since he always lives to make intercession for

  414. them. So God has the ability to keep the believer,

  415. to uphold the believer. Then what will Paul be

  416. referring to? Walk out your salvation with fear

  417. and trembling. It is the same conversation we've

  418. been making. It means to show forth the life,

  419. right, that the believer already has. In other

  420. words, to live worthy of your calling as one

  421. who has been saved, as members of God's kingdom.

  422. I want us to read Philippians 2, verse 12 and

    Philippians 2:12

  423. 13 together in the NLT. It has a better rendition

  424. of this text. It says, Dear friends, You always

  425. follow my instructions when I was with you. And

  426. now that I am away, it is even more important.

  427. Now look at the way they walk out your salvation.

  428. It says, walk hard to do what? To show the result

  429. of your salvation, which means that you are saved

  430. and you have salvation. So what are you to do?

  431. You are to walk. What is the walk in there? To

  432. show the result. To show that you are saved.

  433. To show that you are a Christian. To show that

  434. you've been saved from sin. Obeying God with

  435. deep reverence and fear. Verse 13. For God is

  436. working in you. Who is doing the working? God

  437. is enabling the believer. Giving you what? The

  438. desire and the power to do what pleases him.

  439. Hallelujah. So God here has the ability, has

  440. given us the ability rather, He has implanted

  441. in the believer the ability to do what? To show

  442. forth the life that has been put in him. To express

  443. the God kind of life that is in the believer.

  444. To live worthy of his identity. To be able to

  445. live as a child of God. To be able to live as

  446. a Christian. In verse 14 to 18, we see that Paul

  447. further expresses how the believer will live

  448. worthy of the gospel they have received. Especially

  449. in verse 14, he says, What does verse 14? Yeah,

  450. give me verse 14. It says, do everything without

  451. what? Without complaining and arguing. So that

  452. no one can criticize you. Live clean, innocent

  453. lives as children of God. Not that you are living

  454. this life so that you will be a child of God.

  455. Right? But because you are a child of God, you

  456. must live a clean, innocent life. shining like

  457. bright lights in the world full of crooked and

  458. perverse people. So there must be a difference

  459. between one that is born again and one that is

  460. not born again. There must be a distinction between

  461. a believer and a non -believer. There must be

  462. a distinction between those who are of the kingdom

  463. of light and those who are of the kingdom of

  464. darkness. It is not complaining and disputing.

  465. Complaining and disputing are manifestations

  466. of another identity. which must not be seen in

  467. the believer. Some translation translated this

  468. complaint as grumbling, murmuring, which refers

  469. to a secret debate in a man's heart. See, this

  470. happens in the heart. And then we see your actions

  471. representing, you know, what thoughts you have

  472. in your heart. Not disputing, questioning about

  473. what is true about God. Give me verse 15 in the

  474. Amplified. So that you may prove yourselves.

  475. to be blameless and guiltless, innocent and uncontaminated

  476. children of God without blemish in the midst

  477. of a morally what? Crooked and spiritually perverted

  478. generation among whom you have seen as bright

  479. lights, beacons shining out clearly in the world

  480. of darkness. So we live in a generation where...

  481. There must be a distinction between those who

  482. belong to the kingdom of God and those who belong

  483. to the kingdom of darkness. So now, in the King

  484. James, this verse 15, which seems as though it's

  485. in living right, then we what? That ye may be

  486. blameless. No, we are blameless. If we read it

  487. clearly, it's that we are blameless. We are righteous

  488. as we saw in the NLT. It is our identity. We

  489. are showing proof that we are the children of

  490. God. We are showing forward to people to see.

  491. And our intent is not people actually. It's to

  492. honor and glorify God. Hallelujah. It's to honor

  493. and glorify God. That our lifestyle must be that

  494. which brings glory and honor to God. So what

  495. characterizes our Christian service? What influences

  496. our service in the Christendom? Why do you do

  497. the things you do in the church? Why do you live

  498. the life you live? What influences your behavior

  499. as a believer? Do you serve God joyfully? Or

  500. you have, you know, the circumstance around you

  501. influences your service? To please people or

  502. to please God? It is important that God is the

  503. focus of our service. It's important that God

  504. is the focus. It's to honor God. It should be

  505. an expression of our love towards God because

  506. He has loved us. And he has given us a gift.

  507. And the gift is his life that lives in us. And

  508. we give expression to the life. So when we talk

  509. about loving people, when we talk about living

  510. sacrificially, when we talk about expressing

  511. the love of God one to another, it's because

  512. we have the life in us. And we are meant to give

  513. expression to this life that is in us. So I want

  514. us to read from verse 12 to verse 18 contextually

  515. from the NLT translation. It says, Dear friends,

  516. You always followed my instructions when I was

  517. with you. And now that I am away, it is even

  518. more important, work hard to show the result

  519. of your salvation. And how do we do it? Obeying

  520. God with what? With deep reverence and fear.

  521. For God is working in you. God is working in

  522. us. He's working in you. He's transforming us

  523. daily. Giving you the desire. We don't quench

  524. the desire of God in our hearts. Hallelujah.

  525. The fact that God puts a desire in your heart

  526. does not mean that the desire will manifest itself.

  527. You must give expression to the desire of God

  528. within you. There is a prompting of the Spirit

  529. of God in every believer that has the Spirit

  530. of God. To do good is your natural behavior because

  531. you are a man and a woman that has the Spirit

  532. of God in you. So do not silence the prompting

  533. of the Spirit of God to live righteously, to

  534. do good. For God is working in you. And what

  535. does he do? He put the desire in you. And he

  536. gives you the power. And what is the power that

  537. he has put in you? He lives in you, the believer,

  538. as a spirit. So that you do what pleases him.

  539. It should be a relief for you that you don't

  540. have to do it by your strength. The moment you

  541. allow the spirit and you try to please God by

  542. your methods, outside the prescribed word of

  543. God, which is by faith, then you go into activities.

  544. Then you go into law. You go into doing things

  545. just as a Pharisee. When you begin to describe

  546. your own methods of pleasing God, apart from

  547. what God has said, that you've pleased God by

  548. faith. In fact, you're already, God is pleased

  549. with you because you believe in Jesus Christ.

  550. Hallelujah. That should be a relief for us. So

  551. our lifestyle should not be, you know, an effort

  552. to make God happy. Every day we want to see,

  553. no, we are already perfected in Christ Jesus.

  554. God has accepted us. He's happy with us. Let

  555. me use that word, happy. He's pleased with us.

  556. He has accepted us in Christ Jesus. So we have

  557. to live as those who have been accepted, as those

  558. who have been forgiven, as those who have been

  559. cleansed, as those who have been made righteous.

  560. We have right standing with God. So we are not

  561. in a performance to make God happy with us. There's

  562. nothing you can do on your own to please God.

  563. But He... has created a way for us to please

  564. him, and it's through Jesus Christ. Hallelujah.

  565. So, let's continue with the reading. It says,

  566. do everything without complaining and arguing,

  567. so that no one can criticize you. Live clean,

  568. innocent lives as children of God, shining like

  569. bright lights in a world full of crook and perverse

  570. people, meaning that our lives must be distinct,

  571. there must be a distinction in our lifestyle.

  572. Verse 16. All family to the word of life. And

  573. on the day of Christ. Christ's return. I will

  574. be proud that I did not ruin the race in vain.

  575. That my work was not useless. But I will rejoice

  576. even if I lose my life. Pouring it out like a

  577. liquid offering to God. Just like your faithful

  578. service is an offering to God. And I will all

  579. of you. To share that joy. Yes, you should rejoice

  580. and I will share your joy. Hallelujah. So that

  581. is the conversation of Paul all through. That

  582. a believer must live worthy. Continue in obedience.

  583. In obedience to what? To all the things that

  584. he has been saying from chapter 1 to chapter

  585. 2. To continuously live distinctively. Showing

  586. that we are different, that we are men, that

  587. God has changed. We are men and women that God

  588. has transformed. And the Spirit of God lives

  589. in us to help us to live a life that will bring

  590. honor and glory to Him. Hallelujah. So when we

  591. begin to say that we are to manifest the kingdom,

  592. all we are saying is show your identity. Amen?

  593. Show who you are. Reveal to the world who truly

  594. you are. It's not a time to be showing a different

  595. identity of who we are. Our generation needs

  596. men and women. I will stand for God. That our

  597. lifestyle will show a different life apart from

  598. what is obtainable in the world. God is counting

  599. on you. Not that you only go out to preach. You

  600. know, we preach. We extend the kingdom of God

  601. in the hearts of men, right? We expand the kingdom

  602. of God by willing souls. The kingdom is a spiritual

  603. kingdom and the expansion of this kingdom is

  604. in the heart of men. Not only that, we go out

  605. to preach. But we show the way we manifest this

  606. kingdom by our lifestyle. We allow the lifestyle

  607. to be seen. We are lights. And this light must

  608. be seen. People should not mistake your identity.

  609. People should not mistake our identity. People

  610. should not begin to question whether this person,

  611. are you a Christian? Do you go to church? But

  612. people should even see clearly who you are. They

  613. saw the Christians. They saw the disciples. The

  614. way they live their lives and they call them

  615. Christians because they saw something exceptional

  616. about them. They say something distinctive about

  617. them. That they live like Christ. But rather,

  618. Christ lives in them. And he lives his life through

  619. them. And they are not different from us. Hallelujah.

  620. So the challenge for us this week, as we continue,

  621. is that I will ensure that I give expression

  622. to my identity. Hallelujah. That my lifestyle

  623. must match my profession of faith. That I will

  624. continue to live in obedience. Not influenced

  625. by people. but by my conviction or my profession

  626. of faith in who I believe in, in Jesus Christ.

  627. Just begin to pray for yourself and ask God to

  628. help you. And the prayer is this, that in all

  629. circumstances, in all situations, in all locations,

  630. in the open and in the secret, that my life will

  631. bring glory to God. That my life will bring glory

  632. to God. Perhaps you are here and then... There

  633. is nothing of the Spirit of God in your heart

  634. that, oh, I've not been living worthy of my identity.

  635. I've not been living as who men should see me

  636. as. That my profession of faith is only something

  637. that is a show. I'm putting in a show. I'm acting.

  638. I want you to pray at this moment that God should

  639. help you. That God should help us. That the world

  640. would not mistake our identity. That we will

  641. not be reflecting a different identity apart

  642. from who God has made us to be. It doesn't matter

  643. whether you're a leader, whether you're a preacher,

  644. whether you're a teacher. There's a tendency

  645. for us to deny our identity. Circumstances will

  646. provide themselves. Opportunities will come to

  647. test the genuineness of our profession of faith.

  648. As we go through this day, even today, as you're

  649. living in this place, for the account of the

  650. word you've received, you'll be tested. On the

  651. account of saying you are a believer, you will

  652. be tested. And the good news is that if you've

  653. fallen several times, of which we all have fallen,

  654. the good news is that in Christ, we have restoration.

  655. So today is a fresh opportunity. Tomorrow is

  656. a fresh opportunity. Going forward is a fresh

  657. opportunity for us to stand in our identity,

  658. depending on the ability of the Spirit of God.

  659. Not on our own making, not on our own power.

  660. Not in our own strength, but in the strength

  661. of the Lord. I can sense that somebody here is

  662. having regrets and remorse. It doesn't just end

  663. in regretting. It doesn't just end in having

  664. remorse. But are you willing to allow God to

  665. express himself through you? Are you willing

  666. to allow God to express his life through you?

  667. Are you willing to allow the Spirit of God to

  668. transform your character? Perhaps you could have

  669. been more loving to the brother. Perhaps you

  670. could have been more sacrificial to the sister.

  671. Perhaps you could have glorified God in that

  672. moment, in that hour. But then you did the contrary

  673. to the word of God. And there's a word of comfort.

  674. There's a fresh opportunity to represent God.

  675. There's a fresh opportunity. See, you don't have

  676. anything to prove to anybody. You're not living

  677. to please men, but you're living to please God.

  678. And if God is saying, I'm pleased with you, then

  679. the testimony of men does not matter. First and

  680. foremost, the testimony of God matters. And what

  681. God has said about you in his word is what matters.

  682. And what he's saying right now is that you are

  683. perfected. What God is saying right now is that

  684. you are righteous. What God is saying right now

  685. is that you are forgiven. That's a word of hope

  686. for somebody. What God is saying is that you

  687. are cleansed and you are made righteous. Yes,

  688. even you can live to represent God in this generation.

  689. Your conduct will glorify God. Your lifestyle

  690. will honor God. Your speech will honor God. Your

  691. conversation with men will honor God. Give God

  692. a chance to walk through you. He has put the

  693. desire in you. The reason why you are feeling

  694. remorseful is because he is walking in you. He

  695. is prompting you. He is like a light inside you.

  696. Illuminating and shining and showing any dark

  697. part in you. Allow the word of God to reflect

  698. through your life. To illuminate through your

  699. life. Allow men. To be drawn to the goodness

  700. of God through your life. Don't hide your light

  701. under the bushel. Allow the forgiveness of God

  702. to be oozing out of your life. Somebody here

  703. is holding on forgiveness. Oh, there's an offense.

  704. A brother, a sister has offended you. And you

  705. find it so difficult. It's an instruction for

  706. you to forgive and let go. Father, help us that

  707. we will represent you here on earth. The kingdom

  708. of God. is spiritual, the kingdom of God is heavenly,

  709. but is seen in the activities of men on the face

  710. of the earth. Father, that we will demonstrate

  711. your kingdom on the earth, that we will show

  712. forth who we are on the earth, that we will show

  713. the difference on the earth, that there will

  714. be no complaining and grumbling in our hearts

  715. concerning your word, concerning what you've

  716. called us to be and what to do. Share it with

  717. a friend. Till next time, be blessed.
