  1. Welcome to NECF sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. What it means to make disciples. Making

  6. disciples. Last week we looked at disciples.

  7. What it means to be a disciple. This week we'll

  8. be looking at making disciples. Praise the Lord.

  9. So we said that from last week, we read Matthew

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  10. chapter 28, which is also our key scriptures

  11. for today. Matthew 28, from verse 18 to 20. So

  12. Jesus came and said to them and spoke to them

  13. saying, All authority has been given to me in

  14. heaven and on earth. Go and make disciples of

  15. all nations, baptizing them in the name of the

  16. Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching

  17. them to observe all the things I have commanded

  18. you. And, Lord, I am with you always, even to

  19. the end of the age." So we said that everyone

  20. who believes Everyone who believes in Christ

  21. should start learning immediately. Everyone who

  22. believes in Christ should start learning immediately.

  23. Because this is a command that Christ has given

  24. to us. There is a place of learning. Learning

  25. the things that has been, or learning the reality

  26. that we have, which we looked at in the later

  27. part of the sermon of that day. Learning the

  28. reality of who we are. learning this new life

  29. that we have in God or learning this new life

  30. that we have in Christ. So everybody who has

  31. believed, everybody who has believed the gospel,

  32. there is need to be a learning process because

  33. we don't want to live a contradiction. We don't

  34. want to live a life that is not our identity.

  35. We don't want to live a life that is not our

  36. identity. We want to live a life that it shows

  37. that truly we are children of God. Truly something

  38. has happened to us. Truly we carry the spirit

  39. of God in the inside of us. So everybody who

  40. believes should start learning immediately so

  41. that they don't leave their former life or they

  42. don't leave a contradiction. We looked at that

  43. when he says to teach, he's giving an instruction

  44. or implies an instruction to people. That is,

  45. he's telling them to teach. us to teach a little

  46. child to teach a student praise the lord so he

  47. tells them to teach right you should teach them

  48. to observe all the things that he has commanded

  49. them and lo he is with them always even to the

  50. end of the age and we also looked at the word

  51. disciple and which we said in reference to someone

  52. who learned from another praise the lord somebody

  53. who learns from another Somebody who learns from

  54. another. We looked at examples of how the disciples

  55. of John and the disciples of Jesus were learning

  56. from them. The disciples of John learned from

  57. him. They learned how to fast. The Pharisees

  58. as well fasted. We also saw that the disciples

  59. of Jesus were also learning from him. Part of

  60. the things they learned from him, apart from

  61. the way he lived his life and how he moved, was

  62. also that they learned how to study the scriptures.

  63. they witnessed him properly explain the scriptures

  64. how to study the scriptures how to understand

  65. the scriptures so they saw that they saw how

  66. jesus explained the scriptures so they learned

  67. this technique of explanation of the scriptures

  68. reasonable and so it's in the same learning on

  69. how to read the scriptures that they were able

  70. to teach others So they learned and they gave

  71. it to others. They learned and they continue

  72. this tradition or they continue in the doctrine

  73. of how Jesus taught. So they learned how to understand

  74. the scripture. So they understand how Jesus explained

  75. the scriptures because they were with Jesus.

  76. So they were with Jesus and they had all this

  77. experience. They were his audience. so the way

  78. he explained the scriptures is how he explained

  79. the scriptures so jesus giving command to them

  80. to go and make disciples of all nations because

  81. he knows that they have learned what it means

  82. to make disciples because they have learned from

  83. him they have learned firsthand from him what

  84. that is like they are qualified students or they

  85. are qualified people to transfer this knowledge

  86. to other people praise the lord and so To teach,

  87. so they were to teach, that is make disciples

  88. of all nations, because they were disciples themselves.

  89. They were disciples themselves. So making disciples

  90. also, we saw that it was an important fact, or

  91. it was an important factor of the early church.

  92. The church in Acts, there were people who were

  93. making disciples. There was increment in them.

  94. There were more disciples that were coming to

  95. them. And we also said that our reality in Christ

  96. is enough. Our reality in Christ is enough. So

  97. there is no need for conformity. Our reality

  98. in Christ is enough. That we should let God influence

  99. our life. We should let God influence our life

  100. or how we live our life. We should stay true

  101. to our realities and not be conformed to the

  102. system or the pattern of the world. or to let

  103. the enemy deceive us or confuse us in regards

  104. to how we should live our life. Praise the Lord.

  105. So today as well, in this same Matthew chapter

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  106. 28, we also see that he's telling them to make

  107. disciples, to make disciples, to make disciples.

  108. So what does he mean to make disciples? What

  109. does he mean by telling them they should go and

  110. make disciples of all nations? He's telling them

  111. that this is the responsibility as a disciple

  112. that you have, or this is a responsibility as

  113. a child of God that you have. This is a responsibility

  114. that is settled on you as a result of the life

  115. that you have in God, or as a result of the life

  116. that you have in Christ. This is your responsibility.

  117. It's an assignment that you should carry on to

  118. do. You should make the cycles of organization

  119. to replicate the same thing that has happened

  120. to you, to do the same things that have occurred

  121. in your life, right? That place of training,

  122. because they were with Jesus for three and a

  123. half years. They saw the things that he did.

  124. There was a place of training. So they were under

  125. training. They were under... to touch you. Praise

  126. the Lord. So he's telling them that they should

  127. go as well and disciple other people. Teaching

  128. them. And he said he should command, like teaching

  129. them to observe the things I commanded you. And

  130. lo, I'm with you always to the end of the age.

  131. Praise the Lord. So in this teaching, as we said,

  132. we said it's a place to instruct. It is training.

  133. To make disciples is to train. Praise the Lord.

  134. is to instruct is to a let someone learn from

  135. we say a disciple is somebody who a disciple

  136. is somebody who learned from another right so

  137. you make disciples you don't look for disciples

  138. praise the lord so the instruction of jesus is

  139. to make disciples and not look for disciples

  140. so for example you you know there are several

  141. instances where people maybe start a church And

  142. then instead of training or looking for people

  143. that are not going to church, they will go and

  144. get people that are going to church because they

  145. want to fill their auditorium or they want to

  146. ensure that their church is full or they want

  147. to attract people from other places. That's not

  148. the mind of God. That's not the way God wants

  149. us to do it. He wants to make disciples. The

  150. same way that people... the same way that the

  151. disciples came and from beginning they knew nothing,

  152. they just followed God and over time there was

  153. a place of training, there was a place of maturity,

  154. there's a place of growth and there's a place

  155. where they have come to a place where they resume

  156. leadership positions and that's why they are

  157. known as apostles. So they have come to a place

  158. of responsibility, it's the same way we should

  159. also go about making disciples. He said, do not

  160. go to look for people who are already in church,

  161. right? Or people who are already established

  162. in a church. Go and look for people who are not

  163. in any church, who have no knowledge of the things

  164. of God, who has no understanding of the things

  165. of God. Praise the Lord. So it is a place to

  166. make, making disciple is not, is not a, is an

  167. instruction to labor. It's an instruction to

  168. labor in the lives of people. It's an instruction

  169. to pay a price in the life of people. That is,

  170. teaching them the things concerning Jesus, teaching

  171. them the things concerning the life that they

  172. have. Praise the Lord. So, the same way that,

  173. as I explained, the disciples were somewhere

  174. else. There was a particular time before they

  175. met Jesus, there was a state of... of mind they

  176. have or a state of belief or their level of growth

  177. but as a result of their work with jesus as a

  178. result of the many teachings that jesus was teaching

  179. them because primarily they were they were the

  180. audience of jesus right they were with him everywhere

  181. he went so they learned from him they received

  182. training from him they received instruction from

  183. him he said i've given you all authority they

  184. should go and preach the word they will go go

  185. and get me this they'll go and get him go and

  186. do this go and preach the word or go on and heal

  187. the sick they will go right teachings concerning

  188. their lives we saw that there were people who

  189. have been influenced who have been taught is

  190. the same price or is the same price that we have

  191. to pay praise the lord is the same price we have

  192. to pay because so at some point we were somewhere

  193. praise the lord at some point we were somewhere

  194. where we had no understanding of these things

  195. We have no understanding of what it means to

  196. know God to the level which we know God now.

  197. A good example is that there was a time in my

  198. life that I was not praying in tongues. And I

  199. don't know how to fake things. Until I received

  200. training or I received a teaching consigning

  201. it, I was not going to do it. Until I understood

  202. it or scripturally it is explained to me. There

  203. was no way I was going to do it. Praise the Lord.

  204. And somebody asked me, how did you pray for?

  205. I mean, we used to do all night meeting. I don't

  206. know how I was praying, but I was there. Praise

  207. the Lord. And I was sure my prayer was answered.

  208. I was very sure of those. So, but in those areas

  209. of praying in tongues, there was a need for teaching.

  210. There was a need for explanation via the scriptures.

  211. If I didn't see it, I was not going to pray.

  212. Praise the Lord. And by the grace of God, I saw

  213. it in the word of the Lord. It was not forcefully.

  214. It was not just say it, right? It was a proper

  215. explanation of the things that I have in God.

  216. And it's something that is freely given. And

  217. I came to the knowledge of it to be able to begin

  218. to manifest in it. Praise the Lord. So it's the

  219. same way that the person who taught it was gracious

  220. enough. He didn't say, come on, you should know

  221. this by now. Or this or that, right? It took

  222. their time to explain. Praise the Lord. So the

  223. same grace that you received in the place where

  224. you had no knowledge, you had no understanding,

  225. you were immature, the same way that somebody

  226. was gracious to you, or your teacher was gracious

  227. to you to teach you, to instruct you, to guide

  228. you, gradually and gradually, and you came to

  229. this point where you are, and you're continuing

  230. learning, is the same way we should also go about

  231. making disciples. Praise the Lord. To give grace,

  232. to be patient, right? To explain, to give time

  233. to explain. Praise the Lord. So the disciples

  234. of Jesus were with him always, all the time,

  235. or most of the time, they were with him. So they

  236. learned from him, right? He was gracious to them.

  237. He explained time again and again, right? He

  238. was also saying, oh, you should know this by

  239. now. How is it that you are not able? Even if

  240. he makes statements. of maybe they're not understanding

  241. he still goes on to explain praise the lord he

  242. doesn't just brush them off and then move forward

  243. so it's the same way that we should go about

  244. making disciples so the same patient that we

  245. had is the same thing we should because we have

  246. seen our maturity is a result of training praise

  247. the lord our maturity did not just come because

  248. maybe you know we're just moving on our own it

  249. was as a result of training it was as a result

  250. of receiving instruction okay praise the lord

  251. so you make disciples and you train them right

  252. that is the root of church growth so how a child

  253. grows or how the church he become all that god

  254. wanted to become is by training and by teaching

  255. praise the lord It is from a place of training

  256. and by teaching. So you make disciples, you train

  257. them. This is how the church grows. Praise the

  258. Lord. So you preach the word to somebody and

  259. the person believes there's a place of training.

  260. In NECF, we have put some infrastructures around

  261. the training to ensure that people come to a

  262. place of maturity. So there's a place of training

  263. in that we know that the church will grow. That's

  264. how you know that the church is growing, not

  265. numerically. It's not by the numbers of people

  266. in church. Maybe we had 100 people in church.

  267. On average, we're having this. This is not how

  268. the definition of church grows, right? According

  269. to the will of God. That is not what he wants.

  270. He wants people to grow, people that are trained,

  271. people that can train others, people that have

  272. been trained, people that have been taught so

  273. that they can teach others. Praise the Lord.

  274. So that they can teach others. And so this is

  275. not just beginning. We didn't just see making

  276. disciples. It didn't start from Matthew 28. But

  277. we also see it in Exodus. Praise the Lord. We

  278. also see this practice in Exodus. So Exodus chapter

    Exodus 18 chapter mention

  279. 18. Exodus chapter 18. Exodus chapter 18, verse

Exodus 18 chapter mention Exodus 18:13

  280. 13. And so it was on the next day that Moses

  281. sat to judge the people. And the people stood

  282. before Moses from morning until evening. So when

  283. Moses' father -in -law saw all that he did for

  284. the people, he said, What is it that you're doing

  285. for the people? Why do you sit alone and all

  286. the people stand? before you morning till evening.

  287. And Moses said to his father -in -law, because

  288. the people come to me to inquire of God, when

  289. they have difficulties, they come to me. I judge

  290. between one and another and I make known the

  291. statutes of God and his law. So Moses' father

  292. -in -law said to him, this thing that you are

  293. doing is not good. But you and these people who

  294. are with you. will surely weary yourself out.

  295. For this thing is too much for you, and you are

  296. not able to perform it by yourself. Listen to

  297. my voice. I will give you counsel, and God will

  298. be with you. Stand before God for the people,

  299. so that you may bring the difficulties to God.

  300. Then you shall teach them the statutes. and the

  301. law and show them the way in which they must

  302. walk and the work they must do moreover you should

  303. you shall elect you shall select from all the

  304. people able men such as fear god men of truth

  305. hating righteousness such place such over them

  306. to be rulers over thousands rulers of hundreds

  307. and rulers of fifties and rulers of times and

  308. let them judge the people at all times then it

  309. will be that every great matter they shall bring

  310. to you and every small matter they shall judge

  311. they shall themselves judge so it will be easier

  312. for you that you would bear the burden that they

  313. will bear the body with you if you do these things

  314. god so command you then you shall be able to

  315. endure and all the people will be able to go

  316. to their place in peace and then he said moses

  317. heeded to the voice of his father -in -law and

  318. did all that he has said praise the lord so we

  319. see here that moses was doing something for the

  320. people of god and what he was doing is that he

  321. was he was the judge that was judging every matter

  322. he was doing many things for them praise the

  323. lord so he was doing he was Leading them. He

  324. was doing many great things for them. And his

  325. father -in -law was just observing what he was

  326. doing. Praise the Lord. He was observing the

  327. things that Moses was doing. So the people came

  328. to him to judge all matters. And he was there

  329. from morning to night. And he was alone. Just

  330. by himself. And he was doing this thing. And

  331. he told him that you be wary. And you and these

  332. people be wary of yourself. Because it is too

  333. much for you to do. Praise the Lord. In as much

  334. as you are receiving the... You are receiving

  335. the counsel or these difficult matters. You're

  336. explaining the will of God and the statutes of

  337. God, or you are receiving the counsel of God

  338. concerning their life. So you're judging what

  339. is going on between their life. It is going to

  340. be too much for you. This is not ideal. It's

  341. not supposed to be so. It is not supposed to

  342. be happening this way. So he was doing many things

  343. for these people, right? Morning till night.

  344. They were very dependent on him. They were very

  345. dependent on him. Without him, they were not

  346. going to do anything, right? They were very dependent

  347. on him, praise the Lord. And so we see here that

  348. he's pointing to him that this is not a great

  349. way to go about it. This is not a great way to

  350. go about your leadership, praise the Lord, because

  351. he sits alone. So he tells him that you're supposed

  352. to raise men. You're supposed to raise men, right?

  353. You're supposed to raise men. You're supposed

  354. to train men so that they are able to handle

  355. some of this responsibility. You're supposed

  356. to train people so that they are able to handle

  357. some of this responsibility. If there are big

  358. matters, they will bring it to you. If there

  359. are small matters, they will deal with that themselves.

  360. And then verse 17, he said to him that, he said,

  361. so his father -in -law said, the thing that you

  362. are doing is not good. Praise the Lord. So he's

  363. not saying to him that the things that you're

  364. doing is not good. That is what he says he's

  365. doing. He said, I make known the statutes of

  366. God and his laws. That's not what he's saying

  367. is not good. Praise the Lord. By teaching them

  368. the word or by teaching them the statutes of

  369. God is good. But the fact that he's doing it

  370. alone is not good. Praise the Lord. This thing

  371. that you're doing is not good. He's not talking

  372. about his teaching. He's not talking about the

  373. laws. He's not talking about what Moses is judging.

  374. He's just saying that the way he's going about

  375. it, that he's doing it alone, from morning to

  376. night, him alone. Everybody will come to him.

  377. That practice is not good. Praise the Lord. That

  378. practice is not good. Because he's doing it alone.

  379. He's standing alone. Right. Because he was alone

  380. in this thing. Right. So because he does not

  381. have people like him. So there is nobody else

  382. like Moses. Right. Because there is no training.

  383. There's nobody who has been trained to be like

  384. Moses. So the things he's doing is not good because

  385. there's nobody like Moses who can judge outside

  386. from him. Praise the Lord. So he needs to train

  387. people like him so that they are able. To also

  388. instruct or they are able to give the people

  389. counsel or to give the people the will of God

  390. consigning different situations and different

  391. circumstances that surrounds them. So he said

  392. he should make people like you, right? Like I

  393. said, do not look for somebody else. He's saying

  394. to them that he should make more people like

  395. him. He should make more people like him. Don't

  396. look for... Maybe establish people. So in your

  397. ministry work. Is to make people like you. Because

  398. you have received. You have been trained. So

  399. you can train other people. Praise the Lord.

  400. So people like him. Making people like him. Or

  401. people like you. So that they are able to spread

  402. the word. They are able to make disciples as

  403. well. They are able to spread the word. They

  404. are able to make disciples. So that you are not

  405. doing it alone. Praise the Lord. The intention

  406. is not for you to carry the body alone, but that

  407. other people as well are trained so that they're

  408. able to train and share the word. And so we also

  409. see that in the examples of Jesus, he primarily,

  410. as we know, he trained and gave instruction to

  411. the 12. The 12 did not just go and they were

  412. just teaching. What I mean teaching is maybe

  413. they're just preaching to people and they repent

  414. and they move on. They spend time to teach people

  415. so that those people are able to also teach other

  416. people. Praise the Lord. So they spend time to

  417. teach people and to train them. They spend time,

  418. we see Paul, we see Peter, they spend their time

  419. in a particular place to train people. They are

  420. reasoning with them, discussing with them, teaching

  421. them doctrines and teaching them the will of

  422. God so that these people are equipped enough

  423. to be able to teach other people. Praise the

  424. Lord. so that the world is able to spread more.

  425. So they didn't go about saying, okay, maybe they

  426. talk now as they have it, to say, okay, which

  427. other people do we have that maybe are like us,

  428. that, you know, let's go and associate with them.

  429. Praise the Lord. So we saw even that as a result

  430. of their, when they became too much in one place,

  431. persecution arrived so that they would Go to

  432. different places and do the work they are supposed

  433. to do. Praise the Lord. Because they have gathered

  434. themselves in one place and they stayed in one

  435. place. But if you want them to go to different

  436. places and make disciples. So to make people

  437. like you. So that is the job of the discipler.

  438. To make people like him. So that they are able

  439. to do the same thing. Praise the Lord. Because

  440. you cannot be in Cyprus and be in Nigeria. That's

  441. why as a church, we have the training center,

  442. we have friends somewhere, and then the plan

  443. for you is not, let me just find a way that I'm

  444. going to have fellowship, which is important,

  445. but also that the things that you have learned,

  446. the thing that the trainers are taking them to

  447. train you is the same thing you should pass on

  448. to other people. Praise the Lord. So that those

  449. people are able to still pass on the same things

  450. to all that. Verse 18 of that Exodus now said,

  451. he said, but you and these people who are with

  452. you will surely weary yourself out for the things

  453. is too much for you and you're not able to perform

  454. it by yourself. Praise the Lord. So you're not

  455. able to be everywhere at the same time. You're

  456. not able to do it. You're going to weary yourself.

  457. Right? You're going to probably start up a church.

  458. Start a ministry that if you are no longer there,

  459. nothing will happen. Praise the Lord. So there

  460. needs to be a training. There needs to be a training

  461. and a discipleship that should keep going. Worry

  462. yourself and the people that are with you. So

  463. a person that has a... He made the disciples,

  464. people that were with him, so that they would

  465. be like him. We saw that in Acts chapter 11,

    Acts 11:26

  466. verse 26, where they were first called Christian.

  467. And the observation is that these people were

  468. behaving like the Christ. Praise the Lord. So

  469. he made people like him so that they are able

  470. to spread the word. They have the same mannerism

  471. of how they understood. Like I said, when the

  472. first part of his preaching. that the disciples

  473. understood the way Jesus explained the scriptures.

  474. So they explained it the same way that he explained

  475. it. Praise the Lord. So people are able to see

  476. similarities that, oh, these people must be Christians.

  477. They are like Jesus, or they are like Christ,

  478. or they are little Christ of Exodus chapter 18,

    Exodus 18:19

  479. verse 19. He said, Listen to my voice and I will

  480. give you counsel and God will be with you. Stand

  481. before God for the people so that you may bring

  482. the difficulties to God. So he said, let me teach

  483. you. We see that Jethro, a man who is coming

  484. from a foreign place, is coming to give Moses

  485. an instruction. And this instruction is divine.

  486. Praise the Lord. So we see a man who, Moses was

  487. the man who was before God. He was the same God

  488. he used to face. But we see a man who comes from

  489. a different land. He was not even part of their

  490. group. But he came from a saint place and he's

  491. giving them a counsel. And this counsel is the

  492. will of God consigning Moses and consigning the

  493. children of Israel. It's the same will that we

  494. see also in Matthew chapter 18, 28. So we see

    Matthew 18 chapter mention

  495. a man who comes and he's giving Moses instruction.

  496. And this instruction came from a man who came

  497. from a far country, right? So we see the wisdom

  498. of God manifesting itself in this man. And Moses

  499. heeded his voice, right? And this counsel has

  500. been something that has come from one, has continued

  501. for generations and generations. Praise the Lord.

  502. In that same verse, in verse 20, he said, And

  503. you shall teach them the statutes of the Lord

  504. and show them the way in which they must walk

  505. and the work they must do. Praise the Lord. He

  506. says, and you shall teach them. So this word

  507. teach here is slightly different from the usual,

  508. we know, the usual word for teach, right? In

  509. the Hebrew word for teach, right? So this word

  510. for teach is the word zaha, right? It's the word

  511. zaha. It's not just the usual one we know, maybe,

  512. okay, it might imply teach, it might imply instruction,

  513. right? But this one, the word zaha, it means

  514. to be liked. It means to be liked. And it has

  515. many things to eat as well. It means also to

  516. be, to educate, right? It means to warn. It also

  517. means to show examples, to show example, right?

  518. To show the way to do it. Praise the Lord. So

  519. it's not just, it's to be light, to educate,

  520. to warn, to show the way to do it. So the person

  521. who is making disciples is showing the disciples

  522. how to do it. Praise the Lord. So it's a, What

  523. do you say? It's not theory. Praise the Lord.

  524. There's practicality to it. Praise the Lord.

  525. So the disciples learn practically what it means

  526. to preach the gospel, what it means to explain

  527. the gospel, because they are seeing it practically.

  528. Praise the Lord. What it means to heal the sick,

  529. what it means to manifest the gift of the Spirit,

  530. what it means to prophesy, what it means to...

  531. So the disciple is able... to see it. So that

  532. is the word here we see for teach, right? So

  533. it's to educate, to warn, to show a way to do

  534. it. That is to be an example, to be liked. Praise

  535. the Lord. It's the same word that we see in 2

    2 Kings 6:10

  536. Kings 6, verse 10. There it is used as warning,

  537. right? We also see it in 2 Chronicles 19, verse

    2 Chronicles 19:10

  538. 10. It's also used as warning there. So it's

  539. the words Zahar, to teach, to show by example.

  540. So in raising leaders, you don't just teach them,

  541. but you show them, right, how to teach and also

  542. how to be a leader. Praise the Lord. So in making

  543. disciples, you're not just teaching them. You're

  544. not just teaching them this, teaching them the

  545. word, teaching them doctrine, but you're also

  546. showing them how to teach. so how do you teach

  547. the word of god right how do you explain these

  548. scriptures you're showing them how to be leaders

  549. praise the lord you're showing them how to lead

  550. other people how to be leaders of church or how

  551. to be a pastor right or how to be a minister

  552. or how to be a leader of a group so practically

  553. they learn some of these things okay so that's

  554. what he says in verse 20. Instead, you teach

  555. them the statutes and the law of God and show

  556. them the ways in which they must walk in. So

  557. you're showing them practically, okay, this is

  558. what you should do. This is what you should do.

  559. So the disciple knows, right? So in making disciples,

  560. you let them know the do's and the don'ts. Praise

  561. the Lord. When you see this, this should be,

  562. what do you say, a red flag for you. when you

  563. see this you know that so practically you are

  564. able to show them what to do praise the lord

  565. so that you don't you don't have people that

  566. are around you and you have said many things

  567. and then you find out that they have started

  568. making a lot of mistakes because nobody has told

  569. them what you should do praise the lord or maybe

  570. you assume that maybe somebody has told them

  571. before or where they are coming from they have

  572. received these instructions before So you practically

  573. show them what to do. You show them the things

  574. they should do. So that means that your teaching

  575. ministry should not just be informative, right?

  576. But it should also be transformative. So it means

  577. that the people's lives are also changing. You're

  578. not just giving information, right? It's not

  579. just informative, but it's transforming as well.

  580. In verse 20 again, that you show them the way

  581. they must walk. Right? Show them the ministry

  582. things. What does it mean to pray? Right? Why

  583. do we pray for a long time? Why do we pray like

  584. this? What does it mean to fast? What is fasting?

  585. What does it mean to manifest the things of the

  586. Spirit? Right? What does prophecy mean? So it's

  587. to show them, we see them. Instead of teach them

  588. and show them the way they must walk. And the

  589. walk they must do. So there is an instruction

  590. in their own walk. Okay, this is what you should

  591. do. Do this walk or do that. So in making disciples,

  592. there is a place of instruction. This is the

  593. way it should be, right? But this is the things

  594. you must also do. Praise the Lord. Verse 21,

  595. that's it, of Exodus chapter 18. Moreover, you

    Exodus 18 chapter mention

  596. should select from all the people, able men,

  597. such as fear God, men of truth, hating, covetousness,

  598. place such over. They should do the things that

  599. they should do. And now they are able to then

  600. lead, able to go and make disciples. It's the

  601. same thing that we see here. So after these people,

  602. after generally, so he's saying to them that

  603. when you come, he's saying to Moses, the instruction

  604. to Moses is that he should teach the people,

  605. right? He should teach the people. And then as

  606. he's teaching, in the process of teaching the

  607. people, then you select men. Praise the Lord.

  608. So there's a place of training, there's a place

  609. of teaching, then there's selection to responsibility.

  610. Praise the Lord. And it's not the other way around.

  611. So a good example is that you have planted a

  612. church or you have a church or you have a building

  613. that you want to be holding your church service.

  614. And then you're looking for people that should

  615. be leaders in your church or to be handling one

  616. responsibility or the other. It's not to go and

  617. give them the responsibility. It's to first teach

  618. them. It's to first instruct them. It's to first

  619. teach them. It's to first instruct them. It's

  620. first to train them, right? Train them. And in

  621. the process of training, you are then able to

  622. now select men. And select men that... The selection

  623. of men, he says, in verse 21, he says, he said,

  624. such as fear God, like men of truth, hating covetousness.

  625. So these people that he's selecting is people

  626. that have gotten a hold of what he's doing. Praise

  627. the Lord. So the selection is people that have

  628. gotten a hold of what is happening. They have

  629. gotten a hold of the training. Praise the Lord.

  630. But the first thing, like I said, is teaching.

  631. So you do not start a church looking for pastors.

  632. You don't start a church looking for pastors.

  633. You raise men to start churches. Praise the Lord.

  634. You do not start a church looking for pastors,

  635. right? You raise men to start churches. Praise

  636. the Lord. Your goal of... Preaching and teaching

  637. is not that they will remain with you forever.

  638. That they will stay, they will finish, they will

  639. continue. No. It's that the world has to spread.

  640. The kingdom has to spread. So you don't start

  641. a church and looking for pastors, but you raise

  642. men. You disciple men so that they are able to

  643. start churches. Praise the Lord. You disciple

  644. men so that they are able to start churches.

  645. So who are the people that you are training in

  646. your church? Who are the people that you're training

  647. in your church? So when training is not happening,

  648. different people get invited to come and teach

  649. the church many things. So when there's no training,

  650. we need a pastor to come. to get invited either

  651. from US, from Nigeria. That would be the need

  652. of the church. Or we'll get a music minister

  653. to come in, to fly into the island and sing.

  654. And then maybe we'll get somebody to talk about

  655. finances and so many things like that. Praise

  656. the Lord. Because training is not done. Because

  657. when training is done, people will come to that

  658. place of responsibility. Praise the Lord. When

  659. training is done, people will come to the place

  660. of responsibility. So invitations becomes the

  661. order of the day because training is not there.

  662. Because the man of God cannot trust his people

  663. to be able to do those things that he has invited

  664. people because there's a lack of training. They

  665. have not grown. They have not become all that

  666. or come to a place of maturity. Praise the Lord.

  667. So Jethro told him to train men, right? He should

  668. train men and then select them for leadership.

  669. So in the process of training, in the process

  670. of training, leadership selection is being done,

  671. not the other way around. So when leaders are

  672. not trained, the church cannot grow. When is

  673. there a place of training? When is there a place

  674. of discipleship? The church cannot grow. When

  675. there is no place of training, the church cannot

  676. grow. You train them, teach them, and in doing

  677. that, you will now look around. Who are the men

  678. that are fearing God? Who are the men that are

  679. of truth? Who are the men that have understood

  680. this training they were doing? Who are the men

  681. that are without covetousness? Which are the

  682. men that are qualified? feed for these goals

  683. and responsibilities, not the other way around.

  684. Not first, who feeds this thing? Maybe we say,

  685. okay, we're looking for ushering leader. So let's

  686. look for somebody with a serious face, a tall,

  687. maybe brother or sister, you know, that is a

  688. bit skinny, likes to wear corporates, right?

  689. And then we'll select you based on that. Afterwards,

  690. we'll ask, okay, come and start training. Praise

  691. the Lord. So your evaluation of people being

  692. brought into leadership is not by looks or is

  693. not by physical qualities, but rather training

  694. first comes and then selection is done. How was

  695. then Joshua chosen? We also see Joshua here.

  696. How was he chosen? What made Moses choose Joshua?

  697. God made Moses choose Joshua. Exodus chapter

    Exodus 17 chapter mention

  698. 17. Exodus chapter 17, verse 9. Verse 9 says,

    Exodus 17:9

  699. Moses said to Joshua, choose us some men and

  700. go out and fight the Amalek. Tomorrow I will

  701. stand on top of the hill with the rod of God

  702. in my hand. Praise the Lord. Exodus chapter 24

    Exodus 24:13

  703. verse 13. Exodus chapter 24 verse 19. 19 says,

  704. So Moses, Exodus chapter 24 verse 13. So Moses

    Exodus 24:13

  705. rose with all, with his assistant Joshua, and

  706. Moses went up to the mountain of God. Praise

  707. the Lord. So we see here that Joshua, He was

  708. always with Moses. He was always with Moses all

  709. the time. He was there serving Moses. He was

  710. a servant of Moses. He puts it as a sister. He

  711. was a servant of Moses. So he was serving Moses.

  712. Praise the Lord. He was always with Moses. And

  713. then when Moses was about to die, then Joshua

  714. was selected. So there's no training that is

  715. done in absentia. In this kingdom, if you want

  716. to grow, there's no training that is done in

  717. Ascension. You're somewhere. You're attending

  718. it online. What you did is that you were watching

  719. it. You were watching the program. You did not

  720. receive any training. You were just watching

  721. it. Praise the Lord. So there's no training that

  722. is done in Ascension. Joshua moved with Moses

  723. everywhere he was going. Exodus chapter 33. It

    Exodus 33 chapter mention

  724. was with Moses everywhere he was going. Exodus

    Exodus 33:11

  725. chapter 33, verse 11. So the Lord spoke to Moses

  726. face to face as he speaks, as a man speaks to

  727. his friend, and he returned to the camp, but

  728. his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man,

  729. did not depart from the tabernacle. Praise the

  730. Lord. And then, Acts chapter 1. Acts chapter

Acts 1 chapter mention Acts 1 chapter mention

  731. 1. Acts chapter 1 verse 21. Acts chapter 1 verse

    Acts 1:21 Acts 1:21

  732. 21. Let's start with 20. Speaking of Judas Iscariot.

  733. So for it is written on the book of Psalm. Let

  734. his dwelling place be desolate and let no one

  735. live in it. Let another take his office. Therefore,

  736. of the men who have accompanied us all the time,

  737. that the Lord Jesus Christ went in and out among

  738. us, beginning from the baptism of John to that

  739. day when he was taken off from us. One of these

  740. must become a witness with us of his resurrection.

  741. And they proposed two, Joseph called Barnabas,

  742. who was so named Justice, and Matthias. And they

  743. prayed and said, You, O Lord, who have known

  744. the heart of all, show which of these two have

  745. you chosen to take part in the ministry and the

  746. apostleship. from which Judas by transgression

  747. fell, that he might go to his place. And they

  748. cast lots, and the lot fell on Matthias, and

  749. he was numbered with eleven apostles. Praise

  750. the Lord. So we also saw here, we also saw in

  751. Exodus, that Joshua and both Matthias and these

  752. people have been with them. They have been in

  753. the training, they have been in that place. Praise

  754. the Lord. They have received what they have received

  755. with them. So they have been together. He was

  756. with him all the time. He did not know that he

  757. would succeed Moses. So his moving around with

  758. Moses was not a succession plan. That was not

  759. it. He did not know any of those things. All

  760. he was doing, he was serving the Lord from his

  761. heart. All Matthias was doing was also serving

  762. the Lord from his heart. They were not doing

  763. it because they were going to succeed anyone,

  764. but because they were serving the Lord. And that's

  765. how they succeeded both Judas and Moses. So what

  766. is your plan to teach the world? What is your

  767. plan to teach the world? What is your plan to

  768. make disciples? What is your plan to teach the

  769. world? Do you plan to teach the world or consign

  770. yourself with other matters happening around

  771. the body of Christ? Or other things that are

  772. happening around? 1 Peter 4, verse 14. He said,

    1 Peter 4:14

  773. Give your reproach for the name of Christ. Blessed

  774. are you, for the spirit of glory and of God rests

  775. on you. On their part, he's blasphemed. On your

  776. part, he's glorified. But let none of you suffer

  777. as a murderer, as a thief, as an evildoer, as

  778. a busybody in others' matters. If anyone suffers

  779. as a Christian, let him not be ashamed. But let

  780. him glorify God in this matter. Praise the Lord.

  781. So he's saying, to them that if they are suffering,

  782. let our suffering be because they are doing the

  783. work of the Lord. Not because they were talking

  784. about other things, or because they were murderers,

  785. or because they are doing evil. Praise the Lord.

  786. So we also see an interesting word here called

  787. busybody. I don't know how to call the Greek

  788. word. It's very long. But it means to belong

  789. to another matter. Or you are overseeing somebody

  790. else's work. You're doing somebody else's work.

  791. You're concerning yourself with other matters,

  792. with other people. If you are suffering because

  793. of it, that is not the will of God. That's not

  794. what should be happening to you. But you should

  795. concentrate rather on making disciples to suffer

  796. as a Christian. If you are suffering, For we

  797. are seeing other people's work. It is not the

  798. will of God. So do not concern yourself about

  799. other people's work. Do not concern yourself

  800. about other people's ministry. Do not concern

  801. yourself about other people's pastors or posts.

  802. But rather, concentrate on the work that is in

  803. front of you. Concentrate on the work of making

  804. disciples that is right in front of you, that

  805. is given to you. Let others be doing what others

  806. are doing. Praise the Lord. Whether they are

  807. teaching correctly or not teaching correctly,

  808. it is not your work to correct the body of Christ.

  809. It is your work to make disciples. Praise the

  810. Lord. It is your work to make disciples. It is

  811. your work to make disciples. If you have 20 people

  812. in your church, they cannot grow without training.

  813. Your church will remain 20 if there is no place

  814. of training. Because when that training comes,

  815. there will be more discipleship and people, the

  816. church will grow. 1 Peter 5, verse 1 to 2. So

    1 Peter 5:1–2

  817. the elders who are among you are exalted. I who

  818. am a fellow elder and a witness of the suffering

  819. of Christ and a partaker of the glory, I will

  820. be revealed. He says, shepherd the flock which

  821. is among you, serving as overseer, not by compulsion,

  822. but willingly. Not for dishonest gain, but eagerly.

  823. Not as being Lord over those who are entrusted

  824. to you, but be an example to the flock. Praise

  825. the Lord. So he's saying to mind your business,

  826. the things that are in front of you, right? To

  827. be, to disciple, to shepherd the flock among

  828. you. Do not concern yourself about what is going

  829. on somewhere else, but to disciple men, to continue

  830. to preach the word, to mind your work. So your

  831. job is to focus on the flock, right? And those

  832. who you are raising. Your job is to focus on

  833. the flock and those you're raising. If you stop

  834. looking at other matters or other people and

  835. begin to look into your flock, you discover that

  836. there's only a lot that is happening. Praise

  837. the Lord. If you begin to look internally, you

  838. find out that many things are happening around

  839. you that needs more of your attention. Praise

  840. the Lord. There are many, many things that are

  841. happening around you. that need more of your

  842. attention there's a lot of work to be done around

  843. you there's a work there's a lot of work of discipleship

  844. that should be done around you that you should

  845. focus your mind on it rather than focusing on

  846. what other people are doing praise the lord so

  847. the lord has called us to make disciples to make

  848. disciples and that's how the church will grow

  849. praise the lord So I pray that you will bless

  850. by this word in Jesus' name.
