  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. Lord, I honor you. What a privilege.

  6. What a privilege to go through your work. Thank

  7. you, Father. Hallelujah. Amen Let's take our

  8. seat Deuteronomy chapter 22 Deuteronomy 22 Look

    Deuteronomy 22 chapter mention

  9. at verse 5 Deuteronomy 22 verse 5. A woman shall

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  10. not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor

  11. shall a man put on a woman's garment. For all

  12. who do so are an abomination to the Lord your

  13. God. We started on Sunday. our discussion on

  14. a woman's dressing. Part of the series we said

  15. on issues about women's liberty. That's how we

  16. title it. And we noted that most times when the

  17. discussion of addressing comes up. A popular

  18. text that many believers turn to is Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 22:5

  19. 22 verse 5. And we said that to understand this

  20. text we need to do some studies. We began by

  21. answering a few questions which is a usual way

  22. in which we study Bible by looking at the context.

  23. We answered two questions last Sunday. Who spoke

  24. those words and to whom was he addressing them?

  25. We say it was Moses and he was addressing it

  26. to the children of Israel, particularly the generation

  27. that were either born in the wilderness or they

  28. were less than 20 years when they left. Egypt.

  29. But the older generation actually died in the

  30. wilderness. So this is a generation he was communicating,

  31. particularly Deuteronomy. And we stop at when

  32. we were looking at Romans chapter 7. So let's

    Romans 7 chapter mention

  33. go to that place. So the other question that

  34. we are yet to answer is why. That is why Moses

  35. wrote these words, especially now in regards

  36. to this verse 5. Why? Let's go to Romans chapter

    Romans 7 chapter mention

  37. 7. That's why we stop. Romans 7 verse 7. Romans

    Romans 7:7 Romans 7:7

  38. 7 verse 7. Let me read to 13. And what shall

  39. we see then? Is this the law sin? Certainly not.

  40. On the contrary, I will not have known sin except

  41. through the law. For I will not have known covetousness

  42. unless the law has said, You shall not covet.

  43. But sin, taken opportunity by the commandment,

  44. produce in me all manner of evil desires. For

  45. apart from the law, sin was dead. Verse 9. I

  46. was alive once without the law, but when the

  47. commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And

  48. the commandment, which was to bring life, I found

  49. to bring death. For sin, taking occasion, by

  50. the commandment deceived me, and by it killed

  51. me. Verse 12. Therefore the law is holy. and

  52. the commandment holy and just and good. Has then

  53. what is good become death to me? Certainly not.

  54. But sin, that it might appear sin, was producing

  55. death in me through what is good, so that sin

  56. through the commandment might become exceedingly

  57. sinful. And so we first started to look at particularly

  58. verse 9, which is one part that is sometimes

  59. confusing when you read this text. Verse 9, I

  60. was alive once without the law. And we try to

  61. ask the question, what does that mean? Was Paul

  62. referring or saying that he was physically alive

  63. before Moses gave the law? And we say, no, that's

  64. not what he's trying to say. Because if you look

  65. at the context, that was not the discussion.

  66. We said actually Paul lived about for more than

  67. 1 ,500 years after Moses was honored. And then

  68. we looked at what actually that meant. And we

  69. started looking at some keyword there. We said

  70. was alive was translated from the Greek word

  71. zao. And then we said that word zao is a verb.

  72. The noun that was derived from that, we call

  73. it zoe. And that's what we normally, we know

  74. that one, zoe. And we said this zao means to

  75. live, to breathe, to be among the living, to

  76. be active. And the word once we noted is pote,

  77. which means at full time or at some time. or

  78. in the time past. And we looked again at that

  79. verse 9, and we noticed some of the words also,

  80. like revive, and we said revive was translated

  81. from the Greek word anazao, which implies to

  82. live again, to recover life, or to raise to life.

  83. And the word we said anazao was used in the parable

  84. of The lost son. Are we together? Or we call

  85. the parable of the prodigal son. Amen? Let's

  86. go back to that text also. Let's read it quickly.

  87. Luke 15. That word, which is to revive. Are you

  88. in Luke 15? Luke 15. I will read 24. Verse 24.

  89. I'll read verse 24 and 32 because that's where

  90. the word revive or anazao appears. Verse 24,

  91. for this my son was dead and is alive again.

  92. He was lost and is found. So that means what

  93. he's trying to say that the word dead means he

  94. was lost. Are we together? Means alive again

  95. means he was found. Amen. Now go to verse 32.

  96. Verse 32 says, it was right that we should make

  97. merry and be glad for your brother was dead and

  98. is alive again, was lost and was lost and is

  99. found through the same communication. Amen. So

  100. Jesus used the word alive again in this text.

  101. And what he's trying to say is not saying that

  102. the son was physically dead, no, and was brought

  103. back to life, no. Alive again we saw that it

  104. means he was brought back to awareness or consciousness.

  105. Another thing again we should note that when

  106. the father was talking, it means that they were...

  107. He has seen him again. You remember when he said

  108. he was dead, that means he was separated from

  109. him. He was not seeing him. But now the boy has

  110. returned back, means he's alive again. Amen.

  111. So the time I was alive, seen revived, and I

  112. died, we saw in verse 9. are actually spiritual

  113. terms and should be understood in the context.

  114. And I don't want you to forget that Paul in the

  115. context was speaking about sin and the law. Are

  116. we together? When you read from chapter one,

  117. of course, Pastor, you might help us for those

  118. of us who are in the training center in the center

  119. for us to study from the book of Romans. Excuse

  120. me. So I want to read some few texts so that

  121. you understand from where Paul was coming. Go

  122. back to Romans, go to Romans rather. We have

  123. not gone there before. Amen. So go to, go to

  124. Romans, Romans chapter three, verse 20. Romans

  125. chapter three, verse 20. Therefore, by the deeds,

  126. Of the law, no flesh will be justified in his

  127. sight. For by the law is the knowledge of what?

  128. Are we together? Is the knowledge. So that means

  129. the awareness of sin is brought about by the

  130. law. Hallelujah. Okay, that's very important.

  131. Go to verse, chapter 5, verse 13. Romans 5, 13.

  132. Romans 5, 13. He said, for until the law, sin

  133. was in the world. Are we together? Yes, but sin

  134. is not imputed when there is no law. Okay, so

  135. Paul talks about the consciousness of sin or

  136. what we call the awareness of sin. which is brought

  137. about by the law. In fact, this is what the writer

  138. of Hebrews was talking about in Hebrews chapter

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  139. 10. Go to Hebrews chapter 10. And that's why

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  140. those who live by the law will always and consistently

  141. be seen conscious. Are we together? Seen conscious.

  142. Look at Romans chapter 10. Sorry, that's a Romans,

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  143. Hebrews chapter 10. For the law having a shadow

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  144. of the good things to come and not every image

  145. of the things can never with these same sacrifices

  146. which they offer continually year by year make

  147. those who approach perfect. For then, will they

  148. not have ceased to be offered? For the worshiper

  149. once purified will have had no more consciousness

  150. of what? That means if the law could make a man

  151. perfect, there was no need for a year by year

  152. coming to be purified again. But verse 3, but

  153. in those sacrifice, O sacrifices, there is a

  154. reward, a reminder of what? Of sins every year.

  155. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls

  156. and goats could take away sins. Therefore, when

  157. he came into the world, he said, Sacrifice and

  158. offering you did not desire, but a body you have

  159. prepared for me. In burnt offering and sacrifice

  160. for sin, you had no pleasure. Then I said, Behold,

  161. I have come, in the volumes of the books it is

  162. written of me, to do your will, O God. Previously

  163. saying, Sacrifice and offering, bond offerings,

  164. and offerings for sin you did not desire, nor

  165. had pleasure in them, which are offered according

  166. to the law. Then he said, Behold, I have come

  167. to you to do your will, O God. that he may establish

  168. a second. Verse 10. By that will, we have been

  169. sanctified through the offering of the body of

  170. Jesus Christ once and what? Once and for all.

  171. Verse 11. And every priest stands ministering

  172. daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifice.

  173. which can never take away sins. It can never

  174. take away sins. But the only thing we have seen

  175. is that there is a reminder of the sin, the consciousness

  176. of sin. So that was what actually Paul was saying.

  177. You understand? By the knowledge of sin, the

  178. law brings the knowledge of sin. Verse 12, he

  179. said, but this man, after he had offered one

  180. sacrifice for sin forever, sat down at the right

  181. hand of God. For that time, waiting till his

  182. enemies are made his footstool. Of course, the

  183. book of 1 Corinthians told us that the last enemy

  184. that shall be destroyed is what? Is death. Verse

  185. 14. For by one offering, he has perfected, you

  186. see, what was not perfected year in year out

  187. by sacrifice, One offering has perfected forever

  188. those who are sanctified, not those who are being

  189. sanctified. It's all a continuous thing. That's

  190. why he said it's once and for all. Hallelujah.

  191. Amen. So you and I do not need anything. That's

  192. why the man of the spirit is not sin conscious

  193. because his sins has been taken away. He's not

  194. under the law. Are we together? He is not under

  195. the law. Amen. Hallelujah. He said, for sin shall

  196. no longer have dominion over you, for you are

  197. under grace and not under the law. Romans 6,

  198. 14. So in verse 9 of Romans, if you go back to

  199. Romans, let's go back to Romans. So if you look

  200. at Romans 7, Verse 9. That word died was translated

    Romans 7:9

  201. from the Greek word apotnesko. That is A -P -O

  202. -A -P -O -T -H -N -E -S -K -O. A -P -O -T -H

  203. -N -E -S -K -O. It implies to be slain, to be

  204. separated. to be separated. So in the parables

  205. that Jesus gave, when the father said, for this

  206. my son was dead, he was not referring, as we

  207. said, the fact that he was physically dead. No,

  208. but he meant that they were separated or that

  209. he did not see him again because that separation

  210. did this. didn't allow him to see the son. Thus,

  211. it's alive again where we saw in that Luke 15,

  212. 24 and verse 32 was to communicate the fact that

  213. the son now has returned and he could be seen

  214. and now they are not separated. Amen. Hallelujah.

  215. Are we together? So, therefore, when you look

  216. at that verse 9, we can See that Paul is talking

  217. about that he was without sin, the consciousness

  218. of sin. If you can put all those things together,

  219. what Paul is saying, the explanation is that

  220. I was not conscious of sin before. But when the

  221. Lord came, I became conscious of sin. Simple

  222. and short. Are we together? Yes. That's what

  223. Paul is trying to say. And remember we said,

  224. the consciousness of sin is brought about by

  225. what? The law. And also, not just only the sin,

  226. the consciousness of your state. When Paul said,

  227. when Paul said, sinly revived and I die, what

  228. he's trying to say is that, remember, that word,

  229. I died was describing his state. Now I'm using

  230. I, I, you know, there has been an argument. Was

  231. Paul talking about himself? Because when you

  232. read that throughout, was Paul talking about

  233. himself or is he talking about the experience

  234. of another person? Amen. I think when our brother,

  235. is he anointed? Yes. Anointed once was asking

  236. of this, I think we have to do a study from chapter

  237. 4, 5, 6. We read through up to chapter 8. You

  238. understand? Because we wanted to see was Paul

  239. actually talking about the way he was using I,

  240. I, I die, I this, I this, then sin this, then

  241. sin this. You understand? And then we look at

  242. where he was talking about, oh, wretched man

  243. that I am, who would deliver me from the ground

  244. of sin. And then he entered chapter 8, you understand,

  245. and keep discussing by time. He was describing

  246. that man that is under the law and don't have

  247. the spirit, you understand, because that's what

  248. it means. By the time you read verse 8 of chapter

  249. 8, it now says, so then, those who are in the

  250. flesh cannot please God, but those who are not

  251. in the flesh, but in the spirit, if, I mean,

  252. those who are not in the flesh, but in the spirit,

  253. if indeed the spirit dwells in you, now, if you,

  254. if anyone does not have the spirit of Christ,

  255. he is not of his. Definitely, Paul is not describing

  256. his state. because he has the spirit of God,

  257. you understand? And of course, he's not a wretched

  258. man. Are we together? We have noted in a number

  259. of texts, sometimes you can use an analogy to

  260. like identification. Like I can be talking now

  261. and I said, you see, any man that is stealing

  262. is definitely going to be miserable. You see,

  263. when I do this battle, I'm actually going to

  264. end up a miserable man. Now, I'm not talking

  265. about myself. Did you understand what I'm trying

  266. to say? So, but you know, there is a way you

  267. can use I in a sample. You are not speaking about

  268. your reality now. Amen. So that's exactly what

  269. Paul was trying to do here. Amen. So now that's

  270. not the point, but we're trying to say that it's

  271. about what Paul is trying to describe is that.

  272. A man, when the Lord came, he brought consciousness

  273. of sin. He brought consciousness of sin and the

  274. state of a people. And that's why, if you look

  275. at verse, what do you call it? Chapter 8, Romans

    Romans 8 chapter mention

  276. chapter 8. Romans chapter 8, verse 2. He said,

    Romans 8:2

  277. for the Lord. of the spirit of life in Christ

  278. Jesus has made me free from the what? From the

  279. what? The law of sin and what? And death. That's

  280. what the law, the law of Moses brought. When

  281. you live by the deeds of the law, you understand?

  282. This is what we call the law of sin and death.

  283. So when he said sin revived, It means I became

  284. conscious of sin and I died. It means I became

  285. conscious of sin and the state in which I am,

  286. which is death. Amen? So, but there is something

  287. I want us to look further, which is verse 7.

  288. Go back to verse 7 of chapter 7. He said, what

  289. shall we say then? Is the law sin? Is the law

  290. sin? It is certainly not. On the contrary, I

  291. will not have known sin except through the law.

  292. For I will not have known covetousness unless

  293. the law has said, you shall not covet. You shall

  294. not what? Covet. So Paul was directly quoting

  295. from... what we call the Ten Commandments. We

  296. have seen it already. And that is Exodus 20,

    Exodus 20:17

  297. verse 17. Talking about you shall not covet.

  298. Exodus 20, 17. Now, you can recall that earlier

  299. in our discussion that we state the differences

  300. between the law of Moses and the Ten Commandments.

  301. One of the points we raised was that the Ten

  302. Commandments was directly given by God. And then

  303. the law of Moses was written by Moses personally.

  304. We saw it in Deuteronomy chapter 31, particularly

    Deuteronomy 31 chapter mention

  305. from verse 24 to 26. And we saw that the Ten

  306. Commandments was given by God on the mount, on

  307. Mount Sinai. We saw that also in Deuteronomy

  308. 10. Verse 1 to 4. So we also noted that the Ten

  309. Commandments were received before the law of

  310. Moses, certainly. Because the first and foremost

  311. we saw, and I wanted to note something which

  312. I want to make clear. That before the Ten Commandments

  313. was written, even on the stones, in the sand,

  314. the stone tablets, they were first spoken. Please

  315. note that one. This is very important. Before

  316. the Ten Commandments were even written on the

  317. stones tablets, they were first what? Spoken.

  318. Amen? And before the law of Moses was written,

  319. the Ten Commandments on the tablets of stones

  320. were written. Did you see the order? Good. Now,

  321. because there is something very important I want

  322. us to see later on. So go to Exodus 34. Exodus

  323. 34. And remember what I said last Sunday? That

  324. I said Moses' teaching, the law, was based on

  325. the Ten Commandments. Is that okay? And that's

  326. why you saw that even the Ten Commandments are

  327. also again written in the book of Moses. Is that

  328. okay? In fact, it was repeated again. It was

  329. first written in Exodus and then repeated in

  330. Deuteronomy. Showing that this generation that

  331. we are talking about are the Deuteronomy generation.

  332. The Exodus generation that the first was given

  333. to them, they have already perished in the wilderness.

  334. Because at this time that we are discussing,

  335. they are just about Jordan, to cross the Jordan.

  336. That's the end part of Moses' life. Okay. Deuteronomy,

  337. they say, okay, I say Exodus 34, right? Exodus

  338. 34. I want us to read. Let me start from reading

  339. verse 1, Exodus 34, 1. And the Lord said to Moses,

  340. cut two tablets. cut two tablets of stones like

  341. the first. And I will write on these tablets

  342. the word that were on the first tablet you broke.

  343. The question you want to ask that, what cost

  344. Moses to break the first tablet? Amen. Okay,

  345. look at verse 27. Then the Lord said to Moses,

  346. write this word for according to the tenor of

  347. these words, I have made a covenant with you

  348. and with Israel. He was there with the Lord 40

  349. days and 40 nights. He neither eats bread nor

  350. drank water. And he wrote on the tablets the

  351. words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments.

  352. Now it was so when Moses came down from Mount

  353. Sinai and the two tablets of the testimony were

  354. in Moses' hand. When he came down from the mountain,

  355. that Moses did not know that the skin of his

  356. face shone while he talked with him. So when

  357. Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses,

  358. behold, the skin of his face shone and they were

  359. afraid to come near him. Then Moses called to

  360. them and Aaron and all the rulers of the congregation

  361. returned to him. And Moses talked. Afterward,

  362. all the children of Israel came near, and he

  363. gave them as commandment all that the Lord had

  364. spoken to him under Mount Sinai. Verse 33 And

  365. when Moses had finished speaking with them, he

  366. put a veil on his face. But when Moses went in

  367. before the Lord to speak with him, he would take

  368. the veil off until he came out. And he would

  369. come out and speak to the children of Israel,

  370. whatever he had been commanded. And whenever

  371. the children of Israel saw the face of Moses,

  372. that the skins of Moses' face shone, then Moses

  373. would put the veil on his face again until he

  374. went in to speak. Hallelujah. Amen. Now, this

  375. was made reference in 2 Corinthians. In 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  376. chapter 3. I want to look at chapter 3. 2 Corinthians

    2 Corinthians 3 chapter mention

  377. chapter 3. Let me read verse 3. Clearly, You

  378. are an epistles of Christ ministered by us, written

  379. not with ink, but by the spirit of the living

  380. God, not on tablet of stones. Listen, that means,

  381. please listen to me. That means I'm coming to

  382. you. Just follow me. I'll be saying some few

  383. things and we'll build that. That means the desire

  384. of God was not to write his words on the tablet

  385. of stones. Are we together? Now note that, I'm

  386. coming back to it. In answer, not on the tablet

  387. of stones, of stone, but on the tablet of flesh,

  388. that is of the heart. And we have such trust

  389. through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient

  390. of ourselves to think of anything as being, from

  391. ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who

  392. also made us sufficient as ministers of the new

  393. covenant. You see that? Not of the letters, but

  394. of the Spirit. Where is the Spirit written? In

  395. the tablet of flesh. For? The letters killer,

  396. but the spirit reward gives life. But if the

  397. ministry of death written and engraved on stones.

  398. was glorious so that the children of Israel could

  399. not look steadily at the face of Moses because

  400. of the glory of his containers. Which glory was

  401. passing away? How will the ministry of the Spirit

  402. not be more glorious? For if the ministry of

  403. condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness

  404. exceeds much more in glory. For even what was

  405. made glorious had no glory in this respect because

  406. of the glory that excels. For if what is passing

  407. away was glorious, what remains is much more

  408. glorious. Therefore, since we have such hope,

  409. we use great boldness of speech. Unlike Moses

  410. who put a veil. over his face so that the children

  411. of Israel could not look steadily at the end

  412. of what was passing away. But their minds were

  413. what? Oh, talk to me. Their minds were what?

  414. Were blinded. For until this day, the same veil.

  415. So what Moses was putting was a shadow, was actually

  416. depicting the reality, the spiritual reality

  417. of these people. Did you understand what I'm

  418. trying to say? He said, until this day, the same

  419. veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old

  420. Testament. Because the veil is taken away in

  421. Christ. But even to this day, when Moses is read,

  422. that is when the Old Testament. What is describing

  423. as Old Testament is the system of unbelief. Do

  424. you understand what I'm trying to say? Are we

  425. together? That's why we say Old Testament is

  426. all books. Old Testament, New Testament is all

  427. books. Do you understand what I'm saying? Yes.

  428. You say, but even to this day, when Moses is

  429. read, a veil lies on their heart. Nevertheless,

  430. When one turns to the Lord, the veil is what?

  431. Is taken away. So, but their minds were blind.

  432. So what he's trying to describe is that there

  433. was a necessity to put down the law. I mean,

  434. the Ten Commandments. Let's start from the Ten

  435. Commandments first. We are not even going first

  436. to the law of Moses. From the Ten Commandments,

  437. it has to be put down because these men have

  438. rejected. what was spoken first. Are we together?

  439. It were rejected the plan of God. The plan of

  440. God was this and that was why Jeremiah noted

  441. it. When you read in Hebrews chapter 8, you see

    Hebrews 8 chapter mention

  442. also the plan of God. He said, I will write my

  443. laws upon your hearts. That was the, it's not

  444. upon the tablet of a stone. That was the desire

  445. of God right from the beginning. Hallelujah.

  446. Deuteronomy chapter 12. Go back to Deuteronomy

Deuteronomy 12 chapter mention Deuteronomy 12 chapter mention

  447. chapter 12. 4. Let's read 4. Deuteronomy 4. Look

  448. at verse 12. And the Lord spoke to Moses out

  449. of the midst of the fire. You heard the sound

  450. of the words, but saw no form. You only heard

  451. a voice. So he declared to you his covenant,

  452. and he commanded you to perform the tenth commandment.

  453. And he wrote them on the two tablets of stone.

  454. And the Lord commanded me at that time to do

  455. what? Hey, talk to me. To do what? To teach you

  456. the status and the judgment that you might observe

  457. them in the land which you cross over to possess.

  458. You see, this is where Moses began to take from

  459. the Ten Commandments and do what? To teach them.

  460. That's where we start having the writing of the

  461. law, which we now call the book of the law of

  462. Moses. Amen. Now look at what Jesus did. Let's

  463. just look a little bit about Mark chapter 10.

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  464. In Mark chapter 10, 19. And you know the commandment.

    Mark 10 chapter mention

  465. Do not commit adultery. Do not murder. Do not

  466. steal. Do not bear false witness. Do not defraud.

  467. Honor your father and mother. Where is this located?

  468. In the 10th commandment. Are we together? Amen.

  469. You can see that when Jesus was, Jesus didn't

  470. say just 10th commandment. He was just saying,

  471. You have heard from the commandment. He didn't

  472. say 10 commandments. Amen? He just called them

  473. commandments. Look at Romans chapter 10. Let's

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  474. see one of the apostles, particularly Paul again.

  475. Let's go to Romans chapter 13. Romans 13. Verse

    Romans 13 chapter mention

  476. 8. Oh, no one anything except to love one another.

  477. For he who loves another has fulfilled the word,

  478. has fulfilled the law. For the commandments,

  479. you shall not commit adultery, you shall not

  480. murder, you shall not steal, you shall not be

  481. a false witness. You shall not covet. And if

  482. there is any other commandment, and all are all

  483. summed up in this saying, namely, you shall love

  484. your neighbor as yourself. You shall love your

  485. neighbor. So the same goes with Paul. He did

  486. not refer to it as 10 commandments. Are we together?

  487. He summarized it. Did you understand? Of course,

  488. Paul was quoting from the 10th commandment as

  489. we noted, as it is written in. And then by the

  490. time, listen to me, these words, you shall love

  491. your neighbor as yourself is a quotation from

  492. Leviticus 19, 18. It's a quotation from Leviticus

  493. 19, what? 18. So what Paul did, of course, we're

  494. going to see it because he saw it also from Christ.

  495. What Paul did was to summarize a section, you

  496. understand? You can actually divide the Ten Commandments

  497. into two. So the second part of the Ten Commandments

  498. that Paul quoted, that has to do with men. You

  499. understand what I'm saying? If you divide it,

  500. One part, especially if you are looking at Exodus,

  501. Exodus 20, we look at from verse 12 to 17. This

  502. is talking about toward men. Or if you look at

  503. it from Deuteronomy 5, verse 16 to 21, it's also

    Deuteronomy 5:16–21

  504. talking about them towards men. That's what Paul

  505. quoted. What Paul did was to summarize it as

  506. one. What is it? It's a love your neighbor as

  507. your what? Yourself. Now, listen, this one does

  508. not, I hear some people quoting this verse very

  509. badly. You know those proponents of self -love?

  510. How can you know how to love somebody? Unless

  511. first you know how to love yourself, then you

  512. will know how to love your neighbor. Where did

  513. you hear that kind of interpretation? No, no.

  514. You understand? There is nowhere that says you

  515. should love yourself. Nowhere. You understand?

  516. Because how you know to love is by you having

  517. the love of God, not to love yourself. How can

  518. you know how to love yourself? Amen. Now, what

  519. am I trying to say? So Paul summarizes it like

  520. that. Go back to Matthew 22. Matthew 22. Matthew

  521. 22. Let's see what Jesus, because Paul was speaking

  522. from how Jesus did something to the Ten Commandments.

  523. Remember, we said Jesus, no, Paul never called

  524. it the Ten Commandments. Matthew 22, verse 36.

    Matthew 22:36

  525. Teacher, which is the great commandment in the

  526. law? Jesus answered to him, You shall love the

  527. Lord your God with all your heart, with all your

  528. soul, and with all your mind. This is the first,

  529. say to your neighbor, the first commandment is

  530. not to love yourself. but to love the Lord. You

  531. know, that's why I'm trying to decongest that

  532. problem. That is saying that the way to know

  533. how to love your neighbor is to first know how

  534. to love yourself. That idea of self -love is

  535. a world system love. You understand? The first

  536. is said, the commandment. This is the first and

  537. the great commandment. And the second is like

  538. it. you shall love your neighbor as yourself.

  539. On these two commandments hang what? The law

  540. and the prophets. That's what he's saying. On

  541. these two. So when we bring the word of Jesus

  542. and as well what Paul has already told us, remember,

  543. this love your neighbor as yourself also, Jesus

  544. was quoting from Leviticus 19. So what we can

  545. see is that Jesus summarized what we call the

  546. Ten Commandments into just one. Because both

  547. of them mean the same. He said the second is

  548. like the first. So that one has parts. The first

  549. part and the second part. And when you look at

  550. that, I've already mentioned thou shalt love

  551. your neighbor as yourself. But loving the Lord,

  552. the path is toward God. When you look at Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 20:1–17

  553. chapter 20, verse 1 to 17, it talks about things

  554. toward God. And then, of course, if you are looking

  555. at Deuteronomy, you see Deuteronomy chapter 5,

    Deuteronomy 5:6–22

  556. verse 6 to 22. All talks about God. We've already

  557. dealt with the issue of like Sabbath, like the

  558. issue of many things we discussed in this short.

  559. That the Sabbath is describing rest in Christ.

  560. Are we together? So the point is that if you

  561. look at verse 37, yes, he's talking about loving

  562. the Lord. with all your heart, with all your

  563. mind, with all your soul. Remember also, this

  564. love is a combination. Jesus also used text and

  565. summarized that. Are we together? Look at Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 6 chapter mention

  566. chapter 6. Deuteronomy chapter 6. So love your

    Deuteronomy 6 chapter mention

  567. neighbor as yourself is Leviticus 19, 18, right?

  568. Loving the Lord your God with all your heart,

  569. with all your soul, with all your mind is taken

  570. from this text. Deuteronomy 6, verse 5. And you

    Deuteronomy 6:5

  571. shall love the Lord your God with all your heart

  572. and with all your soul and with all your strength.

  573. Look at chapter 10, verse 12. Deuteronomy 10,

    Deuteronomy 10:12

  574. verse 12. And now, Israel, what does the Lord

  575. your God require of you? But to what? To fear

  576. the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, and

  577. to love him, to serve him. To serve the Lord

  578. your God with all your heart and with all your

  579. what? Soul. Look at chapter 30, verse 6. Deuteronomy

    Deuteronomy 30:6

  580. 30, verse 6. And the Lord your God will circumcise

  581. your heart and the heart of your descendant to

  582. love the Lord your God with all your heart, with

  583. all your soul, that you may what? Please note

  584. those, especially two texts. He said, what did

  585. the Lord require? He said, that's what you require

  586. from you, to love the Lord your God. In the Psalm.

  587. And then he said, this is what you will do. And

  588. you do what? And you leave. That's what you will

  589. do so that you leave. So what can we say? We

  590. can see that Jesus is re -explaining the Ten

  591. Commandments. That the way the Ten Commandments

  592. were written were actually not to be as rules

  593. and regulations, but you are a message of the

  594. gospel. That's why he said, that is what the

  595. Lord required from you. And that if you have

  596. done that, you will live. So there is life in

  597. obeying the commandment, the 10th commandment.

  598. But you see, it's not just rules. It's not just

  599. the first one is, I don't call the name of the

  600. Lord in vain. Because that's what Israel took

  601. it, literal. And they are running. And when Jesus

  602. explained, he explained to it and now condense

  603. it into those texts. So from Jesus' words, what

  604. does it mean to love the Lord? Because that's

  605. what he said. If you love, you will live. To

  606. love the Lord with all your heart, with all your

  607. soul, and with all your mind. What does that

  608. mean? Look at John 14. Verse 21. He who has my

  609. commandment and keep them. It is he who do what?

  610. Who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved

  611. by my Father, and I will love him and manifest

  612. myself to him. And Judas, not Iscariot, said

  613. to him, Lord, how is it that you will manifest

  614. yourself to us and not to the world? Look at

  615. the answer. Jesus answered and said to him, If

  616. anyone loves me, He will keep my words. And my

  617. father will love him. And we will come to him

  618. and make our home with him. He who does not love

  619. me does not keep my commandment. And the word

  620. which you hear is not mine, but the father's

  621. who sent me. So since loving him means keeping

  622. his commandment, Do we agree there? Amen. So

  623. the question is that, again is, what is this

  624. commandment? How can a person keep it? Did you

  625. hear the question? What is this commandment that

  626. Jesus is saying? If you keep my commandment,

  627. you are the one that love me. And how can a man

  628. keep it? Look at from verse 6 of that same John.

  629. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and

  630. the life. No one comes to the Father except through

  631. me. If you had known me, you would have known

  632. my Father also. And from now on, you know him

  633. and have seen him. the Father, and it is sufficient

  634. for us. Verse 9, Jesus said to him, have I been

  635. with you so long and yet you have not known me,

  636. Philip? He who has seen me has seen the Father.

  637. So how can you say, show us the Father? Verse

  638. 10, do you not believe that I am in the Father

  639. and the Father in me? The word that I speak to

  640. you, I do not speak on my own authority, but

  641. the Father who dwells in me does the work. Verse

  642. 11. Believe me that I am in the Father and the

  643. Father in me, or else believe me for the sake

  644. of the works themselves. Most assuredly, I say

  645. to you, He who believes in me and the works that

  646. I do, he will do also. And greater works than

  647. these he will do because I go to my Father. Verse

  648. 13. And whatsoever you ask in my name that I

  649. will do, the Father may be glorified in the Son.

  650. If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

  651. If you love me, keep what? If you love me, do

  652. what? Keep my commandment. So that means whatever

  653. he has been saying before, before verse 15, this

  654. is what? This is commandment. In fact, from verse

  655. 1, he said, he said, let not your heart be troubled.

  656. believe, it's not you believe in me, no, because

  657. they have not. Believe in me, in God, and believe

  658. also in where? In me. If you begin to look at

  659. it, that's the, that's the always decision. He

  660. said, believe in me. At least if you're not believing,

  661. believe in the works. Didn't I tell you, I am

  662. my father, because that was what he was telling

  663. them. I am my father, I want, so believe it.

  664. Did you understand what I'm trying to say? So

  665. the commandment here is belief. That's why by

  666. the time he came to verse 15, he said, if you

  667. love me, keep my commandment. What's the commandment

  668. he has been given? Belief. Okay, let's look at,

  669. John clarified that more because he's the writer

  670. of this text. Are we together? First, go to 1

  671. John. Go to 1 John chapter 3. Look at verse 22.

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  672. John, in his epistle, gave more light on what

  673. that commandment is. Chapter 3, verse 22. And

    Isaiah 3:22

  674. whatever we ask, we received from him. Remember

  675. in John 21, he said, ask. Did you see that place?

  676. So he said, whatever. We ask, we receive. So

  677. in that text of John, he was not talking about,

  678. because he said, ask anything in my name. That

  679. anything. Oh, glory to Jesus. You know, sometimes

  680. we like using, when we say anything, it just

  681. means his car. No, I want to go to America. No,

  682. I want to go to, no, that is not the anything

  683. you are talking about because it's contextual.

  684. Are we together? So John came here and he was

  685. saying, And whatsoever we ask, we received from

  686. him. Because we do what? We keep his commandment.

  687. And do those things that are pleasing in his

  688. sight. What are those things? And this is his

  689. word. That we should do what? In the name of

  690. his son Jesus. And do what? And love one another.

  691. That's why he said, this is the commandment.

  692. These are the things that please him. As he has

  693. commanded or given us his commandment. Verse

  694. 24. Now, he who keeps his commandment abides

  695. in him. That's the point. Remember what he said

  696. in that verse 24. You understand? He said, the

  697. one that keeps his commandment, we will come

  698. together and make him our what? Our home. Did

  699. you understand what I'm saying? Yes. So that's

  700. what it means. He said, he who keeps his commandment

  701. abides in him. Because now he becomes the abbot

  702. of God. And the commandment is to believe. And

  703. by this we know this. And by this we know that

  704. he abides in us. How? By the Spirit whom he has

  705. given us. Whom he has given us. So to love God

  706. means to keep his commandment. And to keep his

  707. commandment means to believe in him. So when

  708. Jesus was saying, love the Lord with all your

  709. heart, he said, believe in him. That was why

  710. in Deuteronomy, Moses was writing to the children

  711. of Israel. He said, this is what the Lord demanded

  712. of you. That when you believe him, you live.

  713. And the living there he's talking about is a

  714. life everlasting. So the 10 commandments are

  715. not regulations. They are actually the gospel.

  716. To believe in the son of the living God. And

  717. he make his home with us. Who loved him. Who

  718. believed in him. Who believed him. That's life

  719. when you have the spirit. When the spirit has

  720. make you his home. That's life. That's salvation.

  721. The word home there in John chapter 3. Verse

    John 3 chapter mention

  722. 23. Earlier did I say 24? It's 23. Yes, John

    John 14:23

  723. chapter 14, verse 23. Yes. He said, Jesus answered

  724. and said to him, if anyone loves me, he will

  725. keep my word and my father will love him. And

  726. we will come to him and make our home with him.

  727. That word home there, is the Greek word money,

  728. which is the same word with mansion in verse

  729. 2. You know, some people have been believing

  730. and trusting God that in heaven there are two

  731. mansions, three mansions. Their own is under

  732. construction. The one is under construction.

  733. In my father's house are many mansions. That

  734. word home, It's the same word with damn mansions.

  735. It means in my father's house there are dwellings.

  736. Home. It means resident. So you are the father's

  737. house. You are the dwelling. His dwelling place.

  738. His resting place. Are we together? Jesus, after

  739. the walk of salvation, he rested in you. Did

  740. you understand what I'm saying? When Jesus said,

  741. all ye that are heavy laden, come, I will give

  742. you rest. What he is saying is that, come, I

  743. want to rest in you. That's also what he is saying.

  744. Rest means to carry Christ. That's what it means.

  745. To be the resident of Christ, that's rest. That's

  746. rest. So the result of the indwelling. Listen,

  747. when you become the resident of the Holy Spirit,

  748. the resident of Christ by loving God. So next

  749. time you read texts, many texts like All things

  750. work together for the good of those who do what?

  751. Who love God and are called according to his

  752. purpose. What is love? Belief. You got the point.

  753. You know, most times when they say love God,

  754. you think you should do step one, step two. You

  755. understand? That's what they say. And some of

  756. us always sing, I love God, Lord, I love you.

  757. You think it's prayer, study, going to this,

  758. going to that, going to this, going to that.

  759. All these things are good. But to love God means

  760. to believe in him. Amen. Say, I love the Lord.

  761. I love the Lord. So next time you are singing,

  762. I love you, you understand? Know what you are

  763. saying is that, I believe in you. So like Nathanael

  764. Bassey would say, Jesus, the son of God, I believe

  765. in you. I believe. It also means, I love you.

  766. That's also what it means. So in your mind, don't

  767. be thinking about works when you say you love

  768. the Lord. Do you understand what I'm saying?

  769. Yes. So by the time you love the Lord, kept his

  770. commandment and you have become the resident

  771. of God, then there is something that is produced.

  772. The result of his indwelling in you is what we

  773. call love toward others. What we call the fruit

  774. of the spirit. You understand? Love, joy, peace,

  775. patience. You know, Galatians 5. That is the

  776. result of the dwelling. Give me an amplifier.

  777. Give me an amplifier. Galatians chapter 5, verse

    Galatians 5:22

  778. 22. Galatians 5, verse 22. But the fruit of the

    Galatians 5:22

  779. Holy Spirit, the what? Give me, not classic,

  780. if you have the amplifier, not classic. Yes.

  781. But the fruit of the spirit, the what? The result

  782. of his what? Presence within us is love. And

  783. they are in his body. All of these ones, they

  784. are love. It's just a valid expression of love.

  785. That's why It's not a type of erudite. He might

  786. say, is. No. All these things here, they are

  787. called love. That's why you see, Jesus was talking

  788. about the second is like the first. The second

  789. is like what? Like the first. Let me end by giving

  790. you this text. Look at how Paul puts this text.

  791. Ephesians chapter 1. I'll just read Ephesians

    Ephesians 1 chapter mention

  792. 1. Ephesians 1 .15. And I'll also read Colossians

  793. 1 .4 and Philemon 1 .4. Just this way to see

  794. that one is not... That's why Jesus put it. He

  795. said first and then the second. Did you understand

  796. what I'm trying to say? Good. Look at how Paul

  797. put it. Ephesians chapter 1 verse 15. Is it here?

    Ephesians 1:15

  798. Wherefore I also after I heard of what? In the

  799. Lord Jesus. That means after I have heard your

  800. love. The first. And what? And the love to what?

  801. To all sent. Give me Colossians. Colossians 1

    Colossians 1:4

  802. verse 4. Since we heard of your faith in what?

  803. And of your love which you have what? Toward

  804. all saints. Philemon 1 .4 I thank my God making

  805. mention of thee always in my prayers. Hearing

  806. of your what? Which is faith? With thou hast

  807. what? Wait, wait, wait now. Where are you running

  808. to? Where did you run to? Go back. You see that?

  809. Hearing of thy love and faith, with thou hast

  810. toward the what? And what? All sense. Is always

  811. first the love of God. Meaning to have faith

  812. in him and then toward the side. Because it is

  813. his indwelling that produces the fruit which

  814. we love one another. Which we do what? We love

  815. one another. So a man must first believe. A man

  816. must what? First believe and then the next do

  817. what? So let me give you these thoughts as we

  818. close. In the epistles, you will never see anywhere

  819. where they ask to love the Lord. That was why

  820. you saw in Romans 13, what Paul did was to tell

  821. them what? Love your neighbor as yourself. But

  822. he never told them to love the Lord because they

  823. have done what? They have loved the Lord by believing

  824. in him. So the second thing again I want you

  825. to note is that Now, by this explanation that

  826. the Holy Spirit has provided, the Ten Commandments,

  827. they are a revelation of who Christ is. They

  828. are a revelation of who we are in Christ. There

  829. are no rules and regulations. The Ten Commandments,

  830. in essence, were not given as rules and regulations.

  831. They are not a demand of performance by God.

  832. No. They are a revelation of what God will do

  833. in us and do through us. That the Ten Commandments

  834. is not or are not given as rules and regulations.

  835. They are not a demand of performance from God.

  836. No. They are a revelation of what God will do

  837. in man and through man. And that's why Jesus

  838. said the first is like the second. So the 10th

  839. commandment is a promise of God. So next time

  840. you are reading, don't read them as rules. Are

  841. we together? And I want you never to forget this

  842. sequence. First, this promise. So when you hear

  843. that at Mount Sinai, when they came to Horeb,

  844. he described and told them what to do. And they

  845. rejected. You knew that he gave them the promise

  846. and they rejected. Did you understand what I'm

  847. saying? Now by this explanation that Jesus and

  848. the apostles gave us, we knew that the 10th commandment

  849. was the promise of God. What he wanted to do

  850. in them and through them. But they rejected it.

  851. So God now wrote it on the tablet and told Moses,

  852. this is what you will do. You have to teach them

  853. this castle. Are we together? And that was how

  854. Moses began the writing of the law. Remember,

  855. but these are people. who refuse to believe.

  856. When we come, as God will give us opportunity,

  857. we'll begin to now ask, how now and why? You

  858. know, remember, we have not answered the why.

  859. Why did Moses write the law? Since there is the

  860. Ten Commandments. Are we together? And that was

  861. what God asked him to teach them. We have read

  862. it already. Why did Moses have to write a law?

  863. Already there was the Ten Commandments. Are we

  864. together? which already is on a tablet. He would

  865. have been using and be every day. We say, okay,

  866. today we are reading this and keep teaching them.

  867. But why will he go on to write the law or the

  868. book of the law? Amen. Can you just appreciate

  869. God? We appreciate you being here today. We hope
