  1. Welcome to NECF sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. So let's go back to the text that we

  6. have the Bible reading. In case you want to write

  7. a topic. I have been, I was struggling to get

  8. a topic for this. That's right. The family affair.

  9. Family affair. It's not a TV series. Because

  10. it's sounding very casual. It's sounding somehow

  11. not theological. And that's how I want it to

  12. be. The family affair. Part one. It's not Nollywood.

  13. Amen. Matthew 18 from verse 18 to 20. Let's go

  14. to Matthew 18 from verse 18 to 20. Assuredly,

  15. I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will

  16. be bound where? Will be bound in heaven. We know

  17. what heaven is, right? From January to now, we've

  18. been talking about heaven. Whatever you bound

  19. on earth, will be bound in heaven, and whatever

  20. you lose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Again

  21. I say to you, that if two of you agree on earth

  22. concerning anything they act, it will be done

  23. for them, by who? By my Father in heaven, for

  24. where two or three are gathered together in my

  25. name. I am there in the midst of them. Hallelujah.

  26. So one of the general, let me begin from misconception.

  27. One of the general misconception we have about

  28. verses 18 to 20 is that the text here is about

  29. prayers, right? Whatever you bind on earth will

  30. be bound and then Oftentimes, when we want to

  31. pray, that is the scripture we go to when we

  32. want to bind and cast out. So, particularly verse

  33. 18, look at verse 18. It says, I surely I say

  34. to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound

  35. in heaven and whatever you lose on earth will

  36. be lost where? In heaven. And oftentimes, this

  37. particular verse is used for binding and losing

  38. what? Demons, right? It's used for binding and

  39. losing demons of which the context is not about

  40. casting devils. Hallelujah. It's not about casting

  41. devils. Now, we're not saying that the believer

  42. does not have the authority to cast out devils.

  43. No. What we're saying is that if your inspiration

  44. for casting devils is from this scripture, then

  45. you are misappropriating the scripture because

  46. that is not what the text is about. Of course.

  47. There are other scriptures that empower the believer

  48. with the knowledge of casting out devils. And

  49. this one is not one of it. We misconstrue verse

  50. 19 to 20. Verse 19 to 20. Again, I say to you,

  51. if two of you agree on earth concerning anything

  52. that they ask, it will be done for them by my

  53. Father in heaven. For where two or three are

  54. gathered together in my name, I am there in their

  55. midst. So, we misconstrue this text, particularly

  56. these two verses, to be a prayer of agreement.

  57. You know, when we come together, let's agree.

  58. The Bible says that where two or three are gathered

  59. in my name, I am there in their midst. That is

  60. true. Alright? It's true. God is always with

  61. us. And where believers gather, God is in the

  62. midst of believers. Hallelujah. And then they

  63. say, whatever you agree, right? If two of you

  64. shall agree concerning anything, anything here

  65. has context. Anything is not just anything. Are

  66. we together? If two of you agree that something

  67. evil should happen to somebody, then God is not

  68. involved in that one. So it's not just blanket

  69. anything. In fact, even in the anything, there's

  70. a context to the anything that is discussed in

  71. that particular text. So it is very important

  72. that we put context into consideration when we

  73. come to scriptures. So, similar scriptures teaches

  74. us about prayers and the believer's authority

  75. over devils. But as I said, Matthew 18, 18 to

  76. 20 is not one of them. So, context of any scriptural

  77. verse is very important in understanding Bible

  78. truth. And we will not be tired of it. emphasizing

  79. this every time we come to teach the Bible. Because

  80. without proper interpretation of the text, as

  81. we always say, worship cannot be effective. Hallelujah.

  82. You cannot worship God with a lie, with an actress.

  83. Okay? So the Bible must be properly explained.

  84. The Bible must be properly explained. And that

  85. is how we actually worship God effectively. Hallelujah.

  86. So what is the text about? Jesus here was teaching

  87. about forgiveness and reconciliation. Jesus here,

  88. the binding and losing is concerning reconciliation,

  89. forgiveness and reconciliation in the family.

  90. It is about forgiveness and reconciliation in

  91. the family and not about prayers or casting out

  92. devils. Now, verse 15 to 17 gives us context.

  93. Okay? Verse 15 to 17 gives us context. It says,

  94. moreover, if your brother, so it means that Jesus

  95. was speaking about a relationship between who?

  96. Between brothers, right? Between brothers. If

  97. your brother sins against you, go and do what?

  98. And tell him his fault between you and him alone.

  99. If he hears you, you have what? You have gained

  100. your brother. But if he will not hear, take with

  101. you one or two more. By the mouth of two or three

  102. witnesses, every word may be established. And

  103. if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church.

  104. But if he refuses even to hear the church, let

  105. him beat you like what? Like a heathen and a

  106. tax collector. And surely I say to you, whatever

  107. you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and

  108. whatever you lose on earth will be loosed in

  109. heaven. that they ask, it will be done for them

  110. by my Father in heaven. For where two or three

  111. are gathered together in my name, I am what?

  112. I am there in the midst of them. Hallelujah.

  113. So we can see that Jesus is actually outlining

  114. the steps that family members, family members

  115. will take towards what? Forgiveness and reconciliation.

  116. So the conversation here is concerning forgiveness

  117. and reconciliation. Don't just put forgiveness

  118. alone. Forgiveness and reconciliation. Because

  119. without reconciliation, then I don't think that

  120. forgiveness is complete. Hallelujah. So how did

  121. he conclude that it is a family affair? First

  122. of all, we saw in verse 15, as I said, that it

  123. is an affair between brothers. It says, if your

  124. brother sins against you, if he hates you, you

  125. have been your brother. So if your Bible is yours

  126. on the land, wherever you see brother, right?

  127. If your brother sin against you, go and tell

  128. him his fault and you and him alone, if he hates

  129. you, you have what? You have... Your brother,

  130. on the line of the word, gain your brother is

  131. a brother. Invariably a sister. Okay? So, this

  132. is a family affair. We can also see in verse

  133. 17. It says, verse 17, that is a church family

  134. matter. Right? Verse 17. And if he refuses to

  135. hear them, tell it to who? Tell it to the church.

  136. Tell it to the church. And believe me, the church

  137. is not your Facebook status. That's not where

  138. the church is, okay? It's not your Instagram

  139. status. Because that's where we know people's

  140. offense. Must do. That's the world's way of doing

  141. things. So, it is a church family matter. Tell

  142. it to the church. But if he refuses to even hear

  143. the church, so he said, family matter? Is it

  144. church family matter? Later on in verse 21, we

  145. see Peter overwhelmed by Jesus' explanation in

  146. verse 21. Then Peter came to him and said, Lord,

  147. how? How often should my brother sin against

  148. me? So Peter knows that he understood what Jesus

  149. was teaching. Jesus was speaking about what?

  150. The brotherhood. A family matter. Right? How

  151. often should my brother, my brother sin against

  152. who? Against me. Not against God. Okay? Sin against

  153. you. Sin against me. Sin against... You, an individual,

  154. a human being, not against God. So it is a family

  155. matter. It is a family matter. Hallelujah. Now

  156. I want us to establish this fact again that the

  157. family that we're talking about here is not necessarily

  158. a biological family. Okay? It is the family of

  159. God. It is what Pastor was telling us last week,

  160. that whenever we gather together in this place,

  161. the meeting we have here is a supernatural gathering.

  162. All right? It's a supernatural gathering. We

  163. are supernatural. We are super humans, but we

  164. are in the natural. So it is a supernatural gathering

  165. of believers. It is a supernatural family, not

  166. necessarily a biological family. But of course,

  167. biological family members can be your spiritual

  168. family, can be part of your supernatural family.

  169. But not every biological family member is your

  170. supernatural family member. Hallelujah. But your

  171. biological family can be your supernatural family.

  172. So, we learn from our previous teaching on the

  173. kingdom of God that a church is what? Is the

  174. household of God, which is the family of God.

  175. Now, this family is also what we've called what?

  176. The kingdom of God, isn't it? The family of God,

  177. the household of God is the kingdom of God. Look

  178. at Jesus' follow -up reply to Peter. In verse

  179. 22. Then Peter came to him and said, Lord, how

  180. often shall my brother sin against me and I forgive

  181. him? Up to seven times. We're going to look at

  182. where Peter was inspired to ask for seven times.

  183. Jesus said to him, I do not say to you up to

  184. what? Up to seven times. But up to what? Seventy

  185. times seven. Then the follow up. to the answer

  186. is the verse 23 where Jesus began to give the

  187. parable. He says, therefore the kingdom of heaven,

  188. which means that the family that God is talking

  189. about is actually the kingdom of what? The kingdom

  190. of heaven. Therefore the kingdom of heaven is

  191. like a certain king. So Jesus was explaining

  192. a supernatural family. He's explaining the relationship

  193. within the supernatural family. within the kingdom

  194. of God, within believers. Hallelujah. So we become

  195. members of the family of God through our faith

  196. in Jesus Christ. We are just laying foundation

  197. before we go into dealing with the matters that

  198. concerns our lives. We become members of this

  199. family, the family of God. Through faith in Jesus

  200. Christ. Through faith in Jesus Christ. So if

  201. there is a member of your family that has not

  202. believed in Jesus Christ, then you are not...

  203. He is not part of your supernatural family. Biologically,

  204. you are siblings, right? But spiritually, you

  205. are not brothers. Are we together? That should

  206. give you... The necessity to preach the gospel

  207. to your brother, to your sister, to your siblings,

  208. to your parents. Amen. So we have the right into

  209. the family of God by faith. John 1, verse 12.

    John 1:12

  210. John 1, verse 12, it says, But as many as received

    John 1:12

  211. him, right? As many that received him, To them,

  212. he gave the right, he gave the authority to become

  213. what? To become the children of God. To those

  214. who believe in his name. Only to those who believe

  215. in his name that has come into this union of

  216. God. The union of the family have become part

  217. of the family of God. 1 John 3, verse 1 and 2.

    1 John 3:1

  218. 1 John 3, verse 1 and 2. 1 John. Behold what

    1 John 3:1

  219. manner of love the Father has bestowed on us,

  220. that we should be called the children of God.

  221. Therefore the world does not know us, because

  222. it does not know him. Beloved, now, when? Now,

  223. all right? We are the children of God. Now, we

  224. are the children of God. And how do we become

  225. the children of God? By faith in Jesus Christ.

  226. And it has not yet been revealed what we shall

  227. be, but we have, we know that when he is revealed,

  228. we shall be like him, for we shall see him as

  229. he is. So through Christ, believers receive adoption

  230. as sons into the family of God. Through Christ,

  231. through faith in Christ. Through faith in Christ.

  232. Not just by coming to church and becoming part

  233. of a social garden, but by putting your faith

  234. in Christ, you become part of a family. Galatians

    Galatians 4:4

  235. chapter 4 verse 4. Galatians 4, verse 4 to 7.

    Galatians 4:4–7

  236. It says, But when the fullness of time has come,

  237. God sent forth his Son, of course, Jesus Christ,

  238. born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem

  239. those who were under the law, that we might receive

  240. adoption as sons. And because you are sons, that

  241. is those who have believed. God has sent forth

  242. the spirit of his son into our hearts, crying

  243. out, Abba, Father. Therefore, you are no longer

  244. a slave, but a son. And if a son, then an heir

  245. of God through Christ. You know, there are some

  246. people who have thought that when you become

  247. a believer, then you are not a son yet. You are

  248. a child. Then as you grow, then you now will

  249. grow into sonship. I mean, it will contradict

  250. so many biblical texts. Hallelujah. The moment

  251. you believe, all right? The moment you believe,

  252. you have the seal of sonship on you, which is

  253. the spirit of God that has been put in you, the

  254. believer. Romans 4, verse 14. Romans 4, verse

    Romans 4:14 Romans 4:14

  255. 14. Romans chapter 4, verse 14. For if those

    Romans 4:14

  256. who are of the law, Romans 8, 14, sorry. Romans

  257. 8, 14. For as many are led by the Spirit of God,

  258. these are the sons of God. For you do not receive

  259. the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you

  260. receive the spirit of adoption, by whom we cry

  261. out, Abba, Father. The Spirit himself bears witness

  262. with our spirit that we are what? That we are

  263. the children of God. And if children, then heirs,

  264. heirs of God and join heirs with Christ. If indeed

  265. we suffer with him, that we also be glorified

  266. together with him. Hallelujah. So we have, we

  267. share in the spirit of God. You know, we are

  268. all sons of God, children of God, because we

  269. have the spirit of God equally in all of us.

  270. Now the church and its members, you know, is

  271. what we call the household of God, right? It's

  272. what we call the household of God, the family

  273. of God, the church. So everybody in church here

  274. is your brother, is your sister. Hallelujah.

  275. Not by nationality, not by tribe, not by race,

  276. not by field of study, not by level of degrees,

  277. not by gender, not by age. All of us have become

  278. one part of another. There's no Greek, the Bible

  279. will say, and there's no Jew. There's no difference.

  280. So when you see somebody from Nigeria, he's your

  281. brother. He's your sister. Hallelujah. And that

  282. must be the perception of the believer. That

  283. must continuously be the mindset of the believer.

  284. 1 Timothy 3, verse 15. 1 Timothy 3, verse 15.

    1 Timothy 3:15 1 Timothy 3:15

  285. But if I'm delayed, I write so that you may know

  286. how you ought to conduct yourself where? In the

  287. house of God. So there's an expectation of how

  288. believers will conduct themselves within the

  289. community of believers, the house of God. Which

  290. is what? Which is the church. of the living God.

  291. The house of God is the church of the living

  292. God, a pillar and a ground of truth. Ephesians

    Ephesians 2:19

  293. chapter 2, verse 19. Ephesians chapter 2, verse

    Ephesians 2:19

  294. 19. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers

  295. and foreigners. Talking about you, talking about

  296. I, we are no longer foreigners. We are no longer

  297. strangers to ourselves. But what are we? We are

  298. fellow citizens, okay? We descend and members

  299. together of what? Of the household of God. We

  300. are fellow citizens. Doesn't matter the passport

  301. you are carrying in the natural, whether you

  302. are from Canada or you are from Nigeria. or you're

  303. from Liberia, wherever you come from, what do

  304. we have? We have one citizenship. And what is

  305. the citizenship we have? A spiritual citizenship.

  306. A supernatural family. And this family is an

  307. eternal family. And God is our Father. Galatians

    Galatians 6:10

  308. 6, verse 10. Therefore, as we have opportunity,

  309. let us do what? Let us do good to all. Specifically,

  310. that especially is specifically what I'm talking

  311. about, those who are of what? Who are of the

  312. household of faith. Who are those of the household

  313. of faith? Our believers, our brothers and sisters

  314. in Christ. Hallelujah. So we are siblings. We

  315. are family members. So for you to tell someone

  316. in church brother, brother is not a cliche. No,

  317. don't call me brother. My name is Mark. Just

  318. call me Mark. I'm not a brother. We've attached

  319. the name brother to a certain form of stigma.

  320. When they call you a sister, oh, you know, you've

  321. become holy and righteous. She's a sister. See?

  322. It's an honor to be called a brother. It's a

  323. privilege to be called a sister. Whenever you

  324. call somebody brother or sister, call it with

  325. eternity in mind. Hallelujah. Call it in the

  326. context of the knowledge you have concerning

  327. what God has done. When you give, you know, you

  328. go out to preach and somebody become born again.

  329. immediately becomes one again. He's now a brother.

  330. You call him, you're a brother, you're a brother.

  331. You're my sister. You're part of my family. You're

  332. part of my spiritual family. You're part of the

  333. brotherhood. Hallelujah. So you're my brother,

  334. you're my sister. We are siblings. And we have

  335. an elder brother. And it's Jesus. Hallelujah.

  336. Matthew 12, verse 48. When Jesus was teaching,

    Matthew 12:48

  337. and they came to him, they said, Your brothers

  338. are looking for you. But he answered and said

  339. to them, One who told him, Who is my mother and

  340. who are my brothers? And he stretched out his

  341. hands towards his disciples and said, Here are

  342. my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the

  343. will of my Father in heaven is what? Is my brother

  344. and my sister and my mother. And what is the

  345. will of the Father? The will of the Father is

  346. that every man will believe in Jesus Christ.

  347. And when you become a believer in Christ, you

  348. become part of God's family. And Jesus and God

  349. and the Spirit of God in unison will become part

  350. of God's family. Hebrews 2 verse 11. Hebrews

    Hebrews 2:11 Hebrews 2:11

  351. 2 verse 11. It says, for both he who sanctifies

  352. and those who are sanctified, remove that din,

  353. are all of one. All right? For both he who sanctifies

  354. and those who are sanctified are all of one.

  355. For which reason he is not ashamed to call them

  356. what? Jesus is not ashamed to call you brother.

  357. He's not ashamed to call you my family. So why

  358. should you be ashamed of calling somebody in

  359. church your brother or your sister? He's not

  360. ashamed to call us brothers, brethren. Ephesians

    Ephesians 3:14

  361. 3, verse 14 and 15. Ephesians 3, verse 14 and

    Ephesians 3:14

  362. 15. For this reason, I bow my knees to the Father

  363. of our Lord Jesus Christ. From when the whole

  364. family, where is that family? In heaven, and

  365. earth is named. Who are those in heaven? The

  366. saints, those who have slept in Christ, alright?

  367. And we that are on earth, all right, that we

  368. are named, verse 16, that he will grant you,

  369. according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened

  370. with might through the spirit in the inner man,

  371. just trying to betray the family. All right?

  372. So as members of God's family, we carry his divine

  373. nature. We carry God's divine nature in us. So

  374. when we begin to talk about walking in love,

  375. it will be easier for us to understand. Why we

  376. should walk in love, how we should walk in love,

  377. and how we are empowered to walk in love. We

  378. have God's divine nature in us. Are we together?

  379. We have God's divine nature in us. We share in

  380. the sacred nature of God. 2 Peter 1 verse 4 talks

    2 Peter 1:4

  381. about this. Of course, we read scripture that

  382. talks about his spirit inbearing in us. Now that

  383. spirit is God's nature in us. So whatever God

  384. will do, you can do. Hallelujah. 2 Peter chapter

    2 Peter 1:4

  385. 1 verse 4. Because you see, Peter said, how often

  386. should I forgive my brother? Right? In fact,

  387. let's look at the one before we come to this

  388. one. Let's look at the one in Luke. In Luke chapter

    Luke 17:1

  389. 17 verse 1. To give us context to that text,

  390. Luke chapter 17 verse 1. Then he said to the

    Luke 17:1

  391. disciples, it is impossible that no offenses

  392. should come. Alright? but war to him through

  393. whom they do come. It should be better for him

  394. if a milestone were hung around his neck and

  395. he were thrown into the sea than he should offend

  396. one of these little ones. Take it to yourselves.

  397. This is Jesus speaking. If your brother sins

  398. against you, do what? Rebuke him. Now, what is

  399. rebuke? We must understand rebuke in this context.

  400. We'll explain that subsequently. And if he repents,

  401. what do you do? Forgive. Okay? Thinking about

  402. your brother. All right? And if he sues against

  403. you seven times in a day, because some of us,

  404. our forgiveness has limits. It seems as though

  405. our forgiveness, once someone do something once

  406. and twice, and I say it's enough. Your cup has

  407. full. And if he sins against you seven times,

  408. where? In a day. Right? And seven times a day

  409. he returns to you saying, I repent. You should

  410. do what? You shall do what? You shall forgive.

  411. It's not an advice. It's not a counsel. It's

  412. not a plea. It's an instruction. Verse 5. And

  413. the apostles said to the Lord, increase our faith

  414. because they know what Jesus is saying. Amen?

  415. No wonder it's an increase because this thing

  416. can only be done by faith. Hallelujah. So for

  417. us to be able to do what God has done, what God

  418. is doing, right? We must be able to have a mechanism

  419. in us that allows us to do what God is doing

  420. or what God has done. So what he put in us is

  421. his spirit to enable us to do what? to do what

  422. he has done and what he's doing. 2 Peter, we

  423. are about to read, 1 verse 4, talks about us.

  424. Yes, it says, by which we have been given to

  425. us. Is it a text? Previous verse? Previous verse

  426. to read? So we have... Yes. No, not... This is

  427. not... This is not the text I'm looking for.

  428. Anyway, but give me 1 John 4, verse 8 and 16.

    1 John 4:8

  429. 1 John 4, verse 8 and 16. It says, He who does

    1 John 4:8

  430. not love does not know God. What is God? God

  431. is what? Is it loving? Verse 15. Go back. Verse

  432. 15. God is what? God. Sorry. Verse 7. Give me

  433. verse 7. Beloved, let us love one another for

  434. love is what? Is of God. And everyone who loves

  435. is what? is born of God and knows God. Verse

  436. 8. He who does not love does not know God for

  437. God is what? For God is love. Verse 16. And who

  438. have known and believe the love that God has

  439. for us. God is love. And he who abides in love

  440. abides in what? In God. And God does what? God

  441. in him. Hallelujah. So God our Father is love.

  442. Therefore, we carry in us the nature of love.

  443. Hallelujah. So when we begin to talk about how

  444. we will forgive and reconcile, know already that

  445. we have God working in us to will, to do and

  446. to will according to. To do what he has desire

  447. for us to do by his spirit. So it is him that

  448. is working in us. So love is a nature and a culture

  449. of this family. Okay? Love is what? Is our nature.

  450. So love is my nature. And it is our culture.

  451. It's our culture. It's a nature and also our

  452. culture. What is a culture? Culture is what we

  453. do. It's what we do always, not just do it once.

  454. All right? It's what we do always. John 13, verse

    John 13:34

  455. 34 and 35. And the commandment I give to you,

  456. that you do what? That you love one another.

  457. Is he talking about the world? No, he's talking

  458. about believers, disciples here. By this, all

  459. will know that you are my disciples, if you have

  460. love for one another. 1 Peter 2, 17. 1 Peter

  461. 2 .17 Honor all people. Do what? Love the brethren.

  462. Love the brotherhoods. Love the brotherhoods.

  463. Hebrews 13 .1 Let brotherly love cease to exist.

  464. Is that what he's saying? Let what? Broadly love.

  465. Do what? Continue. This should be a memory verse

  466. for you for this week. Let broadly love continue.

  467. Four words. Let broadly love what? Continue.

  468. It is our culture. It is our lifestyle to love.

  469. First of all, we love one another. Hallelujah.

  470. Because we have the nature of God in us, we must

  471. love the members of our supernatural family.

  472. Tell your neighbor, you must love me. Tell your

  473. brother and your sister, say, you must love me.

  474. Say, I must love you. Ephesians 5, verse 1 and

    Ephesians 5:1

  475. 2. Ephesians 5, because we are children of God.

  476. So therefore be imitators of God as their children.

  477. So where are we learning our love from? From

  478. God, right? And walk in love as Christ also has

  479. loved us and given himself for us an offering

  480. and a sacrifice to God. for a sweet -smelling,

  481. sour aroma. Romans 12 verse 10. Romans 12 verse

    Romans 12:10 Romans 12:10

  482. 10. Be kindly affectionate to one another with

  483. what? With brotherly love. In honor, giving preference

  484. one to another. Putting others first. Honoring

  485. people. Honoring ourselves. Letting love find

  486. expression. From among the family of God's people,

  487. the church, the believers. 1 Peter 1 .22. 1 Peter

  488. 1 .22. Since you have purified your souls, how

  489. did you purify your souls? By believing in Jesus

  490. Christ, right? In obeying the truth through the

  491. Spirit, in sincere love. of the brethren. Do

  492. what? Love one another. How? Casually. Casually.

  493. Fervently. Right? I think the apostle told us

  494. about fervency. Right? In what? Eh? The fervent

  495. spirit. Right? Fervency. Because he would love

  496. for the brethren. That's what it means. Loving

  497. one another fervently, not casually. With what?

  498. With a pure heart. Because some of us, our love

  499. towards one another is not pure. When somebody

  500. says, I love you, it's not really that he loves

  501. you. It's beyond what he's saying. It's not from

  502. a pure heart. Hallelujah. So we must love one

  503. another from a pure heart. From a pure heart.

  504. 1 John 3 verse 16 1 John 3 verse 16 Talking about

    1 John 3:16 1 John 3:16

  505. the love of God. By this we know love because

  506. He laid down His life for us and we also us to

  507. lay down our life for who? For the brethren,

  508. for the brothers, for the sisters. 17. But whoever

  509. has this world's goods, he's explaining how we

  510. lay down our lives for one another, not by dying

  511. physically. Probably to, it might lead us to

  512. that. Who knows? But whoever has this world's

  513. goods and sees his brother in need and shuts

  514. up He's heard from him. How does the love of

  515. God abide in him? It's a question, verse 18.

  516. My little children, let us not love a word. In

  517. words alone, but also in our action. Let our

  518. action correspond with our words. So as you've

  519. gone around and you've professed love one to

  520. another, back your words with actions. Are we

  521. together? Let your words be accompanied with

  522. actions. Let's perform our love. Listen, love

  523. without action is a wish. Amen? Because Jesus

  524. did not just tell you, I love you. God did not

  525. just say, I love you. But what did he do? He

  526. demonstrated the love. Hallelujah. You, Cannot

  527. love God. Amen? What will you give God? Eh? You

  528. receive the love of God. Hallelujah. So we receive,

  529. because love was, we see love in sacrifice. And

  530. God has demonstrated this love by giving us Christ.

  531. So we have to allow this love. flow through us

  532. into the life of others. Not just in saying,

  533. I love you, my brother, my sister, but it must

  534. be seen in our actions, our conducts, our relationship

  535. towards one another. That is why the Bible will

  536. counsel you. If you want to marry, make sure

  537. you marry from where? From your family. Hallelujah.

  538. Because it's only this kind of marriage that

  539. you can see the genuine love of God. 1 Peter

    1 Peter 4:8

  540. 4 verse 8. 1 Peter 4 verse 8. And above all things,

    1 Peter 4:8

  541. you see, whenever you see love, you see this

  542. sense of fervence. Alright? Above all things,

  543. Have what? What kind of love? A fervent love

  544. for one another. For love will do what? Will

  545. cover a multitude of sins. Love will cover a

  546. multitude of sins. 1 John chapter 4 verse 20.

    1 John 4:20

  547. 1 John 4 verse 20. So loving one another becomes

    1 John 4:20

  548. a necessity. Loving your brothers and sisters

  549. in Christ becomes something compulsory because

  550. you have experienced the love of God. Therefore,

  551. you must love one another. If someone says, I

  552. love God and hate his brother, what is he? He's

  553. a liar. So you cannot come to church and say,

  554. see, I don't like Sister Christy, but our blood

  555. do not. Which blood? Is it the blood Jesus shed

  556. that does not match? Hallelujah. You know, I

  557. don't have this connection. We don't connect.

  558. You have to connect because you've been eternally

  559. connected by the Spirit of God. The problem is

  560. with you. You're not walking in love. You're

  561. walking in the flesh. If someone says, I love

  562. God and hate his brother, he is a liar. For he

  563. who does not love... his brother whom he has

  564. seen with his coro -coro eyes. How can he love

  565. God whom he has not seen? How? Verse 21. And

  566. this commandment we have from him, from God,

  567. from Jesus, that he who loves God must. Hallelujah.

  568. You must love your brother also. You must love

  569. your brother also. Even if your brother is unlovable,

  570. you must love your brother. Even if your brother

  571. is loud, you must love your brother. Even if

  572. your brother is too quiet. Even if he is as vibing

  573. like Pastor Carson, you have no choice. Hallelujah.

  574. Because we have come into union. And this union

  575. is an eternal union by the Spirit of God. So

  576. we have an obligation to do what? To love one

  577. another. Even in offenses, we are coming to that,

  578. we explain that text. We are laying a solid foundation

  579. to bring us into explaining how we, us to forgive

  580. and reconcile. So, in this family, in this relationship,

  581. the supernatural relationship, amen? The supernatural

  582. family, tell your brother, offenses will come.

  583. Hallelujah. We saw that, right? Luke 17 verse

    Luke 17:1

  584. 1. Offenses will what? Will come. What does it

  585. mean? Conflict will come in the household of

  586. God. In the spiritual family of God's people,

  587. conflict will do what? Will come. Hallelujah.

  588. So when there's conflict, what do you do? You

  589. run away. When there's conflict, what do you

  590. do? You change church. How many of you, your

  591. mom has offended you and decided to change family?

  592. Huh? Some people say they're all worse. Your

  593. boss annoyed you, you didn't change the job.

  594. Your lecturer offended you. You cannot even drop

  595. the course. And the moment a brother does not

  596. greet you well, you change church. Can you now

  597. say that you are the one with the problem? Leave

  598. the job now. Let's see what will you eat. Hallelujah.

  599. You will show up the next morning even before

  600. your boss. He rubbishes you. Abuse, you send

  601. dirty emails, stupid. You show up again and say,

  602. thank you, sir. Yes, sir. But little things in

  603. church, because they didn't serve you well, and

  604. you became offended. All these were hypocrites.

  605. You are one of the hypocrites. Because you also

  606. will offend people. So the Bible says that Yes,

  607. he says to them, it is impossible, right? It

  608. is impossible that no offenses should come. Which

  609. means that offenses will definitely arise from

  610. our relationship with one another. Listen, some

  611. of the conflict will arise from even being what

  612. is right. We only have differences in perspective.

  613. All right? For example, Pastor Chidi will say,

  614. this should be there and that one should be there.

  615. You are thinking this one will be there. And

  616. that one should be there. And then conflict has

  617. come. I don't like the way you talk to me. Talk

  618. to me as if I'm a child. Before you know it,

  619. emotions have rised. And then words have been

  620. said. Even the words are out of context. But

  621. we give context to the words that were said.

  622. We give meaning to what we think people are saying.

  623. And then what happens? We rise in our hearts.

  624. Alright? Offense. We see offenses rising in our

  625. hearts. So in the family of God, so long as we

  626. are in this world, offenses will come. Hallelujah.

  627. So what do we do? We prepare ourselves for offenses.

  628. Amen. We are empowered. We are waiting for offenses

  629. to come. So disagreement will come. We are not

  630. immune from disagreement and conflicts. There

  631. are several examples in Scripture. We'll just

  632. look at examples and then we continue within

  633. the midweek. There are several examples you can

  634. see in Scripture of people, of believers. Listen,

  635. I'm not talking about baby Christians. Your apostles,

  636. Apostle Paul, Galatians 2, verse 11 and 14. Not

    Galatians 2:11

  637. even in the book of Acts. Galatians 2, verse

    Galatians 2:11–14

  638. 11 to 14. Now, when Peter had come to Antioch,

  639. who are you speaking? Paul is the one speaking

  640. here, right? Even though we've not heard Peter's

  641. side of the story. But this is Paul speaking,

  642. right? Now, when Peter had come to Antioch, what

  643. did he say? I was touching to his face because

  644. he was to be blamed. All right? For before setting

  645. me, this is what Peter was doing. For before

  646. certain men came from James, he would eat with

  647. the Gentiles, right? But when they came, he withdrew

  648. and separated himself, fearing those who were

  649. of what? Who were of the circumcision. So it

  650. seems as though Peter was not, he knew the truth,

  651. but he was not, he was not trying to please people,

  652. right? And Paul said, I withstood him, verse

  653. 14. Yes, verse 13. And the rest of the Jews also

  654. played the hypocrite with him. So that even Barnabas

  655. was carried away with their hypocrisy. Verse

  656. 14. But when I saw that they were not straightforward

  657. about the truth of the gospel, I said to Peter

  658. before them all, if you, being a Jew, live in

  659. the manner of Gentiles and not as Jews, why do

  660. you compare Gentiles to live as Jews? Here's

  661. his confrontation. And then we will look at how,

  662. later on, Paul and Barnabas, I see Paul is very

  663. confrontational. Paul and Barnabas, Acts 15 verse

    Acts 15:36

  664. 36. Yes. Acts 15 verse 36. Then after some days,

    Acts 15:36

  665. Paul said to Barnabas, let us now go back and

  666. visit our brethren in every, it's our ministry

  667. partners. In every city where we have preached

  668. the word of the Lord and see how they are doing.

  669. All right? Verse 7. Now Barnabas was determined

  670. to take with them John, call Mark, John Mark.

  671. But Paul insisted that they should not take with

  672. them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia

  673. and had not gone with them to the walk. Why is

  674. it that when we are doing the work, you run away?

  675. So that when the things are done, You want to

  676. come and partake in the glory. No, no, no, no,

  677. no. And I mean, Paul is right. Are we together?

  678. Peter is also right. If you look at it from different

  679. contexts, both of them are right. But this is

  680. disagreement. Hallelujah. Then the contention

  681. became what? It became so sharp. To the point

  682. that they parted from one another. Alright? And

  683. so Barnabas, he assisted and then he took Mark.

  684. Do you know why? Mark is related to Barnabas.

  685. This family relationship. So they came to Cyprus

  686. here. Okay? But Paul chose Silas and departed.

  687. Being commended by what? Now, underline this,

  688. the church, the brethren to the grace of God,

  689. because the church was part of that conflict.

  690. We'll discuss it subsequently. How the church

  691. is important in dealing with offenses and conflicts

  692. in the church. Hallelujah. Philippians 4 verse

    Philippians 4:2

  693. 2 in the NLT. Philippians 4 verse 2. We're just

    Philippians 4:2

  694. looking at, pointing at examples of believers

  695. who had conflict and issues. Philippians 4 verse

    Philippians 4:2

  696. 2. Now I appear to you, dear, whatever the name

  697. is, I don't know whether it's correct, and St.

  698. Tiki, please, because you belong to Jesus Christ,

  699. right? I beg, because you are believers, settle

  700. your what? Your disagreement. Which means that

  701. they have disagreement that Paul was aware of

  702. their disagreement. And this is Paul's premise

  703. for a context. The context is that they are believers.

  704. They both belong to the Lord. For the fact that

  705. you belong to the Lord, do what? Settle your

  706. beef. Hallelujah. So, there are examples we can

  707. see. We are not immune to having this disagreement

  708. and conflict, right? But when we have disagreement

  709. within ourselves, as family, what is our response?

  710. Do we leave the family? Do we refuse to reconcile?

  711. Do we forgive and yet not reconcile? Forgiveness

  712. and reconciliation is a very important part of

  713. our nature. Alright? And God has enumerated to

  714. us a standard and a procedure by which we must

  715. work, we must reconcile. Hallelujah. If your

  716. brother sees against you, What do you do? You

  717. don't go to your Facebook status to post about

  718. the offense of your brother. You go and tell

  719. him his fault between you and him alone. If he

  720. hears you, you have won, you have gained your

  721. brother. But if he will not hear, take with you

  722. one or two more that by the mouth of two or three

  723. witnesses, every word may be established. We're

  724. going to look at... how this works. Are you the

  725. one that has been offended? You go. Are you the

  726. one that has offended someone? What is your response?

  727. Are you the one or two that they will carry to

  728. go and reconcile? Because some of you, when someone

  729. comes and tells you that, see, Pastor Chidi,

  730. what Pastor Victor did to me, then you completely

  731. become on my own side. I win you over. Me telling

  732. you so that you will be sympathetic towards my

  733. cause. So even when we go to Pastor Victor, we

  734. are going with full force of three people. To

  735. do what? To win the argument. That is not how

  736. you go to the consul, people. So either if you

  737. are the offender, the offendee, or the offender,

  738. or the two or three that is going to the consul,

  739. there is a way. Bible teaches us how to do it

  740. and we shall see it. Hallelujah. Off your mind

  741. and bless God and bless God and thank God. Bless

  742. God for your family, for your supernatural family.

  743. And if there be anyone in your heart right now

  744. that God is bringing to your notice by the Spirit,

  745. someone that you've offended or someone that

  746. has offended you, by the leading of God's Spirit,

  747. You have to reconcile. Some of us, the people

  748. that are not even here, they might even be your

  749. family, in your country, in your school, in this

  750. church, in this family. We appreciate you being

  751. here today. We hope you carry this word with

  752. you throughout your week. Don't forget to check

  753. the show notes for additional insights. Stay
