  1. Welcome to NECF Sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. Good evening everybody. It's good to

  6. be here this evening to share the Word of God

  7. with us. We started on Sunday. uh very quickly

  8. and we we moved into the definition of understanding

  9. what's working of miracles right what it is right

  10. we try as much as possible to to expand it and

  11. touch upon every aspect of it right uh so that

  12. we can be able to understand uh what exactly

  13. it is we differentiated with a little bit from

  14. healing saying all miracles are healing uh sorry

  15. all healings are miracles not all miracles are

  16. healing and we identify those areas that are

  17. other miraculous things jesus did the apostles

  18. did um but they're not exactly healing i think

  19. we also end on for the healing is spiritual healing

  20. is supernatural and We can see, right? Walking

  21. of miracles is spiritual, is supernatural, and

  22. is spectacular. It means we can see. This evening,

  23. we're going to deal with something still related

  24. to walking of miracles. Just continue from where

  25. we stopped, which is why the miraculous, right?

  26. That's what we just want to deal with this evening.

  27. Why the miraculous? Why should we, you know,

  28. in the working of miracles? What is the essence

  29. of it? When we begin to pick, of course, some

  30. of the things that I said on Sunday, I'm going

  31. to repeat some of them again because we didn't

  32. read the scriptures, right? When we begin to

  33. pick it, we'll get to a point where we have to

  34. expand a little bit on certain understandings

  35. that we have regarding the miraculous. This evening

  36. is actually why the miraculous? Why the miraculous?

  37. So the first thing we're going to see is Mark

  38. 16, 17 to 20, which is what has been read while

  39. prayer was being led. It says, and these signs

  40. will follow those who believe in my name. They

  41. will cast out demons. They will speak with new

  42. tongues. They will take up serpents and if they

  43. drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt

  44. them. They will lay hands on the sick and they

  45. will recover. So then after the Lord had spoken

  46. to them, he was received into the heaven and

  47. sat down at the right hand of God. So we said

  48. last on Sunday that the miraculous, they are

  49. actually marks of the gospel. We talked about

  50. that. They are the mark of the gospel. They are

  51. the mark. of the power of God at work. When the

  52. preaching of the gospel is taking place, right,

  53. they are the marks that the power of God is at

  54. work. So while we are preaching, we should expect

  55. them, right? While we are preaching, we should

  56. expect them. So they are the marks of the gospel.

  57. Now, go to verse 20. Just the same marks, just

  58. drop to verse 20. It says, And they went out

  59. and preached everywhere, the Lord walking with

  60. them and confirming the word through the accompanying

  61. signs. It said, They went out and preached everywhere,

  62. the Lord walking with them and confirming the

  63. word. It means confirming their preaching through

  64. the accompanying signs. Do you remember when

  65. we were reading Acts? that God declared Jesus,

  66. right, by the signs and wonders he did. And we

  67. said that word, I think, which acts as that,

  68. let's check, acts, it goes to acts a little bit.

  69. And I explained that that word is actually the

  70. declaration. He said he's approved of God. He

  71. was saying that God approved Jesus, right, by

  72. the signs and wonders that he did. And I said

  73. that approve is actually the word to declare,

  74. right, to make known, to make manifest. uh someone

  75. to make manifest god right in act um let's see

  76. i think when peter was preaching that's in chapter

  77. two sister Acts chapter 2. I'll come back to

    Acts 2 chapter mention

  78. that scripture. I'll come back to the scripture.

  79. Let's stay on this first. Then I'll come back

  80. to Acts. Acts 2. Okay, Acts 2, 20, right? 22,

  81. okay. We say, ye men of Israel, hear these words.

  82. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God. Okay,

  83. a man approved of God, which is declared of God,

  84. right, by the signs and wonders that follow.

  85. So that's the word we said is actually declaring.

  86. Now, back to Mark 16, 20. They went out and preached

  87. everywhere, the Lord walking with them and confirming

  88. the word, right? Through the accompanying of

  89. signs. Amen. Now this can be termed as the entire

  90. book of Acts. So we can say that the summary

  91. of the entire book of Acts is Mark 16, 20. Because

  92. what they did in the entire book of Acts was

  93. they went about preaching the word of God everywhere.

  94. You remember from Jerusalem, right? To Samaria,

  95. to Judea, to everywhere where they went to. So

  96. they went about preaching the word and the Lord

  97. was confirming their sign. So that is why in

  98. the book of Acts, okay? In the book of Acts,

  99. most of what we are written, right? We are things

  100. that we are seen physically. He had a lot of

  101. what we call the eyewitness accounts. Why? Because

  102. these signs and wonders were a whole lot in that

  103. place. So we see that when someone gets healed,

  104. when someone is raised from the dead, when someone

  105. is, we see it written just the way it's taken

  106. place. So the book of Acts is actually the, we

  107. can say the activities of the apostles, right?

  108. signs and wonders following. Signs and wonders

  109. following. So we see that it's exactly the summary

  110. of the entire term. I think the only thing that

  111. we'll be missing there is persecution. You know,

  112. the only thing that is missing there is persecution,

  113. which is what comes with the preaching of the

  114. gospel. But we see that this is the entirety

  115. of the entire summary of the book of Acts because

  116. they went about preaching the gospel and you'll

  117. see, Thousands were believing. Thousands were

  118. turning to God. The number of the disciples increased

  119. as the word of God multiplied, right? The number

  120. of the disciples increased as the word of God

  121. multiplied. So, the word working with them is

  122. the word sonegio. We can write it down. Sonegio,

  123. S -U -N -E -R. S -U -N -E -R -G -E -O. Which

  124. means to team up with them. To corroborate what

  125. they are doing. To team up with them. To work

  126. together with the people. To walk together with

  127. the people. So God was walking with them, was

  128. teaming up with them and confirming, right? And

  129. confirming the word. So the word confirming,

  130. the word confirming, I don't know, I'm just going

  131. to spell it because No, like we said, this is

  132. not a language, but this is where the scripture

  133. has been written. Is be bio, B -E -B -A -I -O

  134. -O. B -E -B -A -I -O -O. B -E -B -A -I -O -O.

  135. So confirming, which simply means to ratify something.

  136. To ratify something. To ratify something. To

  137. ratify something. It also means to put something

  138. into effect, right? Also means to put something

  139. into effect. To put something into effect. To

  140. authenticate something, right? To authenticate

  141. something. Palm, what they are doing. So, what

  142. it simply means is that while they are preaching

  143. the gospel, right, while they are teaching and

  144. they are raising disciples, in the course of

  145. that, right, you will see that the apostles will

  146. make a statement, right, and you will see healing

  147. take place. You will see them say, rise and walk.

  148. Right? And you will see that statement. In the

  149. midst of their going everywhere to preach the

  150. gospel. So their words, what they say, what they

  151. do to reveal Christ to people, right, is confirmed.

  152. Means it's authenticated by the signs and wonders.

  153. So we see Acts, right? Acts 5, Acts 5 verse 12.

    Acts 5:12

  154. We see Acts 5 verse 12. He said, by the hands

    Acts 5:12

  155. of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought

  156. among the people. And there were always one accord

  157. in the Solomon's porch. Right? He said, many

  158. signs and wonders were carried out by the hands

  159. of the apostles. At 5 .15, same 5 .15 to 16.

  160. 15 to 16. He said, in so much that they brought

  161. forth the sick into the streets and laid them

  162. on beds and couches, that at least, at least,

  163. it shows you how the miraculous was so available,

  164. so much available. People were seeing it and

  165. believing it. That at least, not by laying of

  166. hands, but by the presence of a man passing.

  167. He said, by at least the shadow of Peter passing

  168. by. So we see God backing up the preaching of

  169. the gospel by these signs and wonders. Authenticating.

  170. the signs, or let's get the preaching of words

  171. by the signs and wonders. Right. Acts 19 verse

    Acts 19:11

  172. 11. Acts 19 verse 11. Start from verse 10. Right.

    Acts 19:11

  173. We start from verse 10. And this continued by

  174. the space of two years. so that all they which

  175. dwell in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus,

  176. both Jews and Greeks. Right? But let's take a

  177. little bit back. Let's see what was happening

  178. there. Let's see from verse 1. Maybe we can find

  179. something. It said, And it came to pass that

  180. while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul, having passed

  181. through the upper coast, came to Ephesus. And

  182. finding certain disciples, he said unto them,

  183. Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye have

  184. believed? And they said unto him, We have not

  185. so much heard of whether there be any Holy Ghost.

  186. And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye

  187. baptized? And they said unto him, John's baptism.

  188. Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the

  189. baptism of repentance, saying unto the people

  190. that they should believe on him which should

  191. come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When

  192. they heard this, they were baptized in the name

  193. of the Lord. So, a clarity of the gospel, right?

  194. Clarify the gospel to them. Preach to them, right?

  195. That the preaching that took place there taught

  196. them much more in clarity. So, we see him preaching

  197. them. Verse 6 says, And when Paul had laid hands

  198. on them, the Holy Ghost came on them, and they

  199. spoke with tongues and prophesied. And all the

  200. men were about twelve. And they went into the

  201. synagogue and spoke boldly for the space of three

  202. months. So we are seeing somebody's labor in

  203. preaching. Someone's labor in preaching. Meeting

  204. people who seem to have received the word, but

  205. clarified the gospel unto them. And we see him

  206. again going into the synagogue and in the space

  207. of three months preaching, disputing and persuading.

  208. the things concerning the kingdom of God. So

  209. it was engaging people, right? Engaging people.

  210. Now let's see what happened as a result of this.

  211. He said, but when divers were hardened, right?

  212. He said, but when divers were hardened and they

  213. believed not, they believed not, but spoke evil

  214. of the way before the multitude, it departed

  215. from them and separated the disciples, distinctly

  216. in the school of one. And this continued by the

  217. space of two years so that that we dwell in Asia

  218. had the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and

  219. Greeks. So we see him preaching, laboring in

  220. the place of preaching the gospel. And God wrote

  221. special miracles by the hands of Paul so that

  222. from his body were brought unto the sick, handkerchiefs

  223. or aprons. and diseases departed from them, and

  224. the evil spirit went out of them. So while he

  225. was preaching, people believe in the miraculous,

  226. they receive it. They receive it. So we see that

  227. in the place of preaching the gospel, we see

  228. the miraculous taking place. We see people believing,

  229. people believing as has been taught and as has

  230. been wrought. Acts chapter 8, verse 5 to 8, I

    Acts 8:5–8

  231. think we have. Acts chapter 8 verse 5 to 8. which

    Acts 8:5–8

  232. he did. For unclean spirits, the same, you know,

  233. similar narrative of what happened when Paul's

  234. shadow was passing, Peter's shadow was passing,

  235. Paul's handkerchief was being taken. Unclean

  236. spirits crying out with loud voice came out of

  237. many that were possessed with them. And many

  238. taken with palsies, and they that were lame were

  239. healed. And there was what? There was great joy

  240. in what? in that city. So this is what we say

  241. every Sunday, right? We say it, right? We say

  242. we do what? We bring great joy to cities. We

  243. bring great joy to where? To cities. So what

  244. did we see that is taking place? Preaching of

  245. the word and the miraculous. Bringing great joy

  246. to cities. So it means that if you really want

  247. to bring great joy to cities, we must avail ourselves

  248. to walk in the miraculous. If truly we want to

  249. bring great joy to cities, we will not just say

  250. we will go and preach and not expect the miraculous,

  251. but expect it in abundance. So as we are going

  252. to preach, we want to bring great joy to cities,

  253. we will expect the miraculous. So this is the

  254. way by which we can bring great joy to cities.

  255. So we see that the preaching of the gospel and

  256. the miraculous, they go together. They go together

  257. and it's a mark of the gospel, bringing great

  258. joy to cities. The second one is that miraculous

  259. is also for the believers. For the believers,

  260. I already said that on Sunday, but we should

  261. talk about it again. Remember that firstly, the

  262. working of miracles as a word or as a phrase,

  263. Firstly, the walking of miracles as a phrase

  264. will be found in where? 1 Corinthians 12, which

  265. is a letter written to a church. We see that

  266. it's found in the place where a letter, Paul's

  267. letter to the Corinthian church. So it therefore

  268. means that in that sense, the believers in that

  269. church should or are beneficiaries of the walking

  270. of miracles as well. because it's written to

  271. them, right? So they can walk in miracles among

  272. themselves in that church. So that is the first

  273. thing that we'll see, that the context of it,

  274. the context of that chapter 12 is that it's written

  275. to a church. And it is that it is for the what?

  276. The benefit of all. Let's go to 1 Corinthians

  277. 12. Let's go to 1 Corinthians 12. 1 Corinthians

  278. 12. So now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren,

  279. I would have you, I would not have you ignorant.

  280. So he doesn't want him to be unaware. Yet ye

  281. know that ye were Gentiles carried away unto

  282. these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore

  283. I give you to understand that no man speaking

  284. by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed.

  285. And no man can say that Jesus is Lord, but by

  286. the Holy Spirit. Now there are diversity of gifts,

  287. but the same Spirit. And there are differences

  288. of administration, but the same Lord. And there

  289. are diversity of operations, but it is the same

  290. God who worketh all in all. But the manifestation

  291. of the Spirit is given to every man, right, to

  292. profit. So, we see that it is written to a church,

  293. right? It's expecting that they will walk in

  294. the things of the Spirit. It's expecting that

  295. they will be edified walking in the things of

  296. the Spirit. They will be strengthened walking

  297. in the things of the Spirit. And that includes

  298. verse 10, which says, to another the walking

  299. of miracles. So he's expecting that they would

  300. also be beneficiaries of this. All right. Then

  301. we see Acts 12, verse 1 to 11. Acts 12, verse

    Acts 12:1–11 Acts 12:1–11

  302. 1 to 11. We read this on Sunday already. Across

  303. the scripture, just put James 5, 16. James 5,

  304. 16. Acts 12, verse 11. James 5, 16. Now we can

    Acts 12:11

  305. go to verse 5 of that chapter because we're already

  306. on Sunday already. It said, Peter therefore was

  307. kept in the prison, but prayer was made without

  308. ceasing. of the church unto God for him, right?

  309. Prayers were made. So they prayed for Peter and

  310. the miraculous happened. And verse 11 says, and

  311. when Peter was come to himself, he said, now

  312. I know of a surety that the angel, that the Lord

  313. has sent his angel and has delivered me out of

  314. the hand of Aaron. This is a miracle, right?

  315. This is a clear miracle, church praying. a believer,

  316. an apostle receiving. So it's not just that we

  317. will preach for you as leaders and you will receive,

  318. but that you also will pray for us as your pastors

  319. to enjoy the miraculous. Do we get it? So it's

  320. not a one -way thing. It's not every time you

  321. come here, you know, we lay hands on you, you

  322. will go and we will not be edified. But that's

  323. you as, the disciple of Christ, as a follower

  324. of Christ, will also pray for your leaders to

  325. enjoy the miraculous. So there's no monopoly

  326. of walking of miracles. There's no monopoly of

  327. it. It has to be the leaders. It has to be the

  328. apostles only. No. An apostle was just delivered

  329. by the prayers of his church. Right? So we are

  330. very humble. We are very receptive to your prayers.

  331. So you ministering to us. And you know, in this

  332. church, this is one of the things we emphasize

  333. that you can work in the things of, that's why

  334. we are teaching it, that you can work in it.

  335. We can also be beneficiaries of it. So it's irrespective

  336. of, irrespective of your leadership position

  337. in church, every believer can receive and can

  338. give it, can minister it. Alright, the third

  339. one. The third one. The miraculous is demonstrated.

  340. I can write it down. The miraculous is demonstrated

  341. in casting out devils. The miraculous is demonstrated

  342. in casting out devils so that the delivered can

  343. hear and believe the gospel. The miraculous is

  344. demonstrated in casting out of devils so that

  345. the delivered, the one that is delivered, can

  346. hear and believe the gospel. And be a disciple.

  347. You should add that. Of course, believing the

  348. gospel, I just wanted us to extend it because

  349. of the scripture we are going to read. And be

  350. a disciple means following Jesus and preaching

  351. the gospel. Luke chapter 8. Luke chapter 8. Luke

Luke 8 chapter mention Luke 8 chapter mention Luke 8 chapter mention

  352. chapter 8. Let's see. Why the miraculous? Luke

    Luke 8 chapter mention

  353. chapter 8. Why the miraculous? It said, And it

  354. came to pass afterward that it went throughout

  355. every city and village, preaching and showing

  356. the glad tidings of the kingdom of God. and the

  357. twelve were with him. And certain women, okay,

  358. the twelve were with him, and certain women,

  359. which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities.

  360. Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven

  361. devils. And Joanna, the wife of Shuzah, heralded

  362. stewards. And Susanna, and many others which

  363. ministered unto him of their substance. Right?

  364. Ministered unto him of what? Of their substance.

  365. He said, women. And he just named a few of them.

  366. Right? He just named three. Right? We see three

  367. there. So, we see three there. And these three,

  368. at this point where this message was being reported,

  369. were they disciples or were they still possessed

  370. by demons? They were disciples. Okay? They were

  371. disciples. So, they were delivered of evil spirit

  372. and they became disciples. They became disciples.

  373. Certain women which were healed of evil spirit

  374. and infirmities. So, when people are delivered

  375. from demons and evil spirits, they are supposed

  376. to become disciples. That is what we want them

  377. to become. So you have to preach to them. You

  378. know, we have to preach to them and tell them,

  379. you see, this is what has happened to you. This

  380. is by the power of God. And this is what God

  381. wants you to do. Right? So it's not like we are

  382. doing freelance. You know, you just go, you just

  383. heal. You let the person go. You just go, just

  384. cast out demons. And you just smile, you know.

  385. You are enjoying the feel like some people will

  386. say. But rather, as that miraculous is taking

  387. place in the life of that person, you are ready

  388. to preach to the person. You are ready to preach

  389. to the person. So it is that they will become

  390. disciples. They will believe the gospel. And

  391. they will preach the same thing. They will preach

  392. the same thing. Let's go to Acts 16. Acts 16.

  393. The miraculous brings people into discipleship

  394. as they have been healed, as they have been delivered.

  395. Acts 16. Then came he, okay, we'll go to verse

  396. 30 and 35. He said, then came he to Deb and Lysra

  397. and built a certain disciple where they are named

  398. Timotheus, the son of a certain man, which was

  399. a Jewess. Married in the right place. Yes. And

  400. believe, and believe. But his father was a Greek.

  401. I think we can skip this part. We gotta go to

  402. verse 11. Right, 16, we can go to verse 11. He

  403. said, therefore, losing from trials, we came

  404. with a straight course to Samutrashyap and the

  405. next day to Neapolis. And from thence to Philpab,

  406. which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia

  407. and a colony. And we were in that city abiding

  408. certain days. And on a Sabbath, we went out of

  409. the city by a riverside where prayers... was

  410. wounds to be made. And we sat down and spoke

  411. unto the woman which resorted, Theta. And a certain

  412. woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the

  413. city of Tythera, which worshipped God, heard

  414. us, whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended

  415. unto the things which were spoken of Paul. And

  416. when she was baptized, and her household, she

  417. besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to

  418. be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and

  419. abide there. And she constrained us. So we see

  420. then that they preached on household and they

  421. believed. Now in the course of that, not directly,

  422. but in the course of that, we see that something

  423. took place from verse 30 to 35. We can read from...

  424. From verse 22. So after preaching the gospel

  425. in the house of Lydia, a whole household saved.

  426. Right? You should know what follows. In verse

  427. 22 it says, And the multitude rose up together

  428. against them, and the magistrates ranked off

  429. their robe and commanded to beat them. And when

  430. they had laid many stripes on them, they cast

  431. them into the prison, charging the jailer to

  432. keep them safely. who haven't received such a

  433. charge, thrust them into the inner prison and

  434. made their feet fast in the stocks. And admitted,

  435. Paul and Silas prayed and sang praises unto God,

  436. and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly there

  437. was a great earthquake, so that the foundation

  438. of the prison were shaken, and immediately all

  439. the doors were opened, and everyone, everyone's

  440. bands were loose. It's not just Paul and... Silas

  441. the Lord. Everyone found were what? Were loose.

  442. And the keeper of the prison awoken. So this

  443. is a miraculous in a circumstance, right? Miraculous

  444. taking place in a circumstance and among a people

  445. there. And the keeper of the prison awoken out

  446. of sleep, seeing that the prison doors open,

  447. he drew out a sword and would have killed himself.

  448. Supposing that the prisoners had fled. But Paul

  449. cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no

  450. harm, for we are all here. Then he called for

  451. a light and sprang in and came trembling and

  452. fell down before Paul and Silas and brought them

  453. out and said, Sars, what must I do to be what?

  454. To be saved. He did not ask them, How did the

  455. chains break off? Right? He did not ask them,

  456. How were the doors opened? Right? He did not

  457. ask them, How is it that it's not just you and

  458. Silas, but everybody in this prison, their chains

  459. were broken? It tells us what should be the position

  460. of someone who is delivered, right? He's not

  461. delivered from evil spirit, but he was delivered

  462. from killing himself, right? If Paul had not

  463. shouted, he would have committed suicide or he

  464. would have been executed. Having known the people

  465. who had handed over Paul and Silas to them and

  466. having known, that they had caused trouble in

  467. their cities. In fact, they put them in the innermost

  468. prison. So look at the position of someone who

  469. was delivered from killing himself, right? More

  470. like delivered from death. He said, what can

  471. I do to be saved? So when the miraculous takes

  472. place, it is that the person who is delivered

  473. from evil spirit or is delivered from a circumstance,

  474. right? Must ask, what must I do to be saved?

  475. The person does not have... You tell the person

  476. you need to be saved. Right? You need to be saved.

  477. So many years ago, actually, before I had this

  478. understanding, I had many people around me, right,

  479. growing up, that they pray for unbelievers and

  480. miraculous happens. Right? They just meet an

  481. unbeliever. They just pray for the person and

  482. the person gets healed and go. But some of them,

  483. interestingly, they can be from another entire

  484. religion. So I saw that consistently. So my question

  485. when I became much, when I grew up, why are we

  486. healing them and they are not part of this house?

  487. That was my question. Why are we healing them?

  488. Why are we praying for them? Why are we doing

  489. all of this when they are not even part of this

  490. house? Or why should we even preach to them and

  491. pray for them to get healed and we let them go?

  492. I started questioning that. And the first position

  493. I took was, we are not praying for them again.

  494. Let's wait first. That was my first position

  495. for a couple of years. I'm like, why should we

  496. pray for someone from another religion that is

  497. sick? Because I was just seeing, we're just healing

  498. them and they are going and they're not hearing

  499. the gospel. But when I started understanding

  500. the signs and wonders that accompany the preaching

  501. of the gospel, I understood that the job will

  502. be complete where they are healed and they are

  503. preached to. Right? So the problem is not healing

  504. them or giving them the word or giving them a

  505. revelation from God. Sometimes you can even receive

  506. direction for them. Interesting, you will receive

  507. direction. I mean, things in the natural and

  508. you will tell them this is it and it would be

  509. as you have spoken because you carry the Spirit

  510. of God, right? So in such circumstances, we must

  511. also be able to preach to them and tell them,

  512. this is by the Spirit of God, right? Otherwise,

  513. we will not be different from motivational speakers.

  514. That's the point. We will not be different from

  515. any inspiration out there. Because the person

  516. will not understand where your inspiration is

  517. coming from. The person will just say, oh. This

  518. guy is just one of those guys, anything he says,

  519. I just get inspired. When he just says something,

  520. it just comes to pass in my life. And they will

  521. keep coming around because they want to feed

  522. on what you have. But you must feed them what?

  523. With the gospel. We must feed them. Like this

  524. is what we have to do. We must feed them with

  525. the gospel. As much as they are injured, we must

  526. preach to them. We must tell them, you need to

  527. be saved. Right? You can enjoy these signs and

  528. wonders and you don't belong to the family. You're

  529. not safe. You don't have eternal life in you.

  530. So we have to preach to them as they are being

  531. delivered, right, from circumstances and things

  532. around. Now, the fourth one, the fourth one,

  533. which is going to take us a little bit, almost

  534. throughout the end of this teaching, is that

  535. the miraculous helps us to address opposition

  536. to the preaching of the gospel. The miraculous

  537. can help us to address opposition to the preaching

  538. of the gospel. The miraculous can help us to

  539. address opposition to the preaching of the gospel.

  540. Acts 16, verse 19. Acts 16, verse... Let's start

    Acts 16:19

  541. from verse 16. It said that it came to pass as

  542. we went to pray, a certain damsel possessed with

  543. the spirit of divination met us. We brought what?

  544. Our masters much gain. By what? By soothsaying.

  545. By soothsaying. Brought much gain to our master.

  546. By soothsaying. This is an opposition to the

  547. gospel. You know why? Because he is like Simon

  548. that was considered the great the great sorcerer

  549. until Philip appeared. So Simon was considered

  550. the greatest of all time until Philip appeared.

  551. That was an opposition. How can I put it? Any

  552. standing that is against the power of God and

  553. is being exalted there is an opposition to the

  554. gospel. Because you need the miraculous to clear

  555. their eyes and then they will see the message

  556. of the gospel. And we see that in the case of

  557. Philip. So here again, we see an opposition,

  558. you know, this guy has been making money, right,

  559. from this damn cell. The same followed Paul and

  560. us. And Christ was saying, these men are the

  561. servants of the most high God, right? We dealt

  562. with this last Sunday, right? This statement

  563. does not mean she is saved, but it's definitely

  564. an opposition. He said, which show us the way

  565. of salvation. Right? Well, she's not in the way

  566. of salvation. Neither are our owners in the way

  567. of salvation. And this she did many days. But

  568. Paul being grieved, turned and said to the spirit.

  569. So it was a spirit at work. I command thee in

  570. the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.

  571. And he. came out the same hour. And when the

  572. master saw that the hope of their gains were

  573. gone, they called Paul and Silas and drew them

  574. into the marketplace, onto the ruler. So what

  575. we see there is that Paul was preaching and there

  576. was someone distracting, right? A distraction.

  577. So we can cast that out, right? We can cast that

  578. out in that sense. So we see that Paul did not

  579. kill her. Paul did not harm her, right? But Paul

  580. actually cast out the demon. So let's go to Acts

  581. 13, 6 -12. Acts 13, 6 -12. And when they had

  582. gone through the eyes of Paphos, they found a

  583. sudden sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose

  584. name was Bar -Jesus. which was with the deputy

  585. of the country, Sardius Paulus, a prudent man

  586. who called for Barnabas and Saul and desired

  587. to hear the word of God. But Elymas, the sorcerer,

  588. for Saul is his name by interpretation, withstood

  589. them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the

  590. faith. Right? A sorcerer seeking to turn away

  591. the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, whose name

  592. was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Ghost,

  593. set his eyes on him, and said, O fool of all

  594. subtlety and all mischief, thou child of the

  595. devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt

  596. thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the

  597. Lord? And now behold, the hand of the Lord is

  598. upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing

  599. the sun for a season. And immediately there fell

  600. on him a mist. and a darkness. And he went about

  601. seeking some to lead him by the hand. Now we

  602. see the miraculous taking place here, right?

  603. Is it a miraculous taking place here? Yes, it's

  604. the miraculous taking place. There's an opposition

  605. to the gospel and Paul spoke a word, right? Paul

  606. spoke a word and that word causing to be blind

  607. for a season, right? To be blind for a season.

  608. Now, this blindness, We must pay attention to

  609. it because he said for a season, right? It means

  610. that it's not that his eyeballs fell off, neither

  611. were his eyes bleeding, right? But the eyes were

  612. there but could not see for a season. Why? So

  613. that the person Paul is preaching to can receive

  614. the message of the gospel, right? So we'll see

  615. it in verse 12. Look at verse 12. Verse 12 says,

  616. then, after this guy had been taken out of the

  617. way, the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed,

  618. being astonished, at the doctrine of the Lord.

  619. So, two things. He saw the miraculous and he

  620. heard the doctrine. He saw the miraculous, he

  621. was astonished, he heard the doctrine and he

  622. believed. Right. So, it means that in certain

  623. situations, we can do such. But we need to be

  624. careful. Now, Paul did not harm him. Just like

  625. I said, Paul did not harm the other lady, right?

  626. Paul did not harm him. Paul did not say, be blind

  627. and let your eyes not see again. But Paul gave

  628. an instruction that he might be able not to see

  629. for a season. It means that after a season, he

  630. will be able to see, right? That is what it means.

  631. Now, this is similar to what happens to Apostle

  632. Paul, right? when he had an encounter on his

  633. way to Damascus, right? So we can see Acts 8,

  634. 9 to 13. Just pay attention to that being blind

  635. for a season. So this is not killing the person.

  636. This is not harming the person, but doing something,

  637. right, that will make the person go out of the

  638. way. Okay, this is... This is the story of Simon.

  639. Acts 9. Let's go to Acts 9. Just move to the

  640. next page. Acts 9, from verse 4 to 8. And he

  641. fell to the earth and heard the voice saying,

  642. Soul, soul, what persecuted thou me? And he said,

  643. Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus,

  644. whom thou persecuted. It is hard for thee to

  645. kick against the priest. And trembling and astonished,

  646. said, Lord, what would thou have me to do? And

  647. the Lord said, Arise and go on into the city,

  648. and it shall be unto thee, it shall be told to

  649. thee what thou must do. And the men which journeyed

  650. with him stood speechless, hearing a voice but

  651. seeing no man. Verse 8. And Saul arose from the

  652. earth, and when his eyes were opened, he did

  653. what? He saw no man. He saw who? No man. He saw

  654. no man. Now go to verse 15 and 16. But the Lord

  655. said unto him, this is Ananias, right? But the

  656. Lord said unto him, go thy way for Paul, that

  657. he is Paul. For Paul is a chosen vessel unto

  658. me to bear my name before the Gentiles and kings

  659. and the children of Israel. For I will show him

  660. how great things they must suffer for my sake,

  661. for my name's sake. That's four. Verse 17. And

  662. Ananias went his way. and entered into the house,

  663. and putting his hand on him, he said, Brother

  664. Paul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto

  665. thee in the way, as thou camest and sent me,

  666. that thou mightest receive thy sight, be filled

  667. with the Holy Ghost. And immediately there fell

  668. from his eyes, as it has been, what? Scales.

  669. So will you say Jesus blind Paul? Right? And

  670. Bo was not able to see forever. No. It means

  671. that he had a miraculous encounter, right, that

  672. stopped him from going ahead to persecute the

  673. church. And how that took place was that something

  674. physical that was stopping him from progressing

  675. in doing that took place. But that was just for

  676. what? A season. He did no harm to his eyes because

  677. he received his eyes, he received his sight back.

  678. So similarly, right, in the case of Elemas, we

  679. see that he was blind for a season. For a season

  680. and afterwards, they could see again. Right?

  681. They could see again. So it means that we can

  682. put in the miraculous, not to harm people, but

  683. to disrupt things around them, right, when they

  684. are opposing the gospel. when they are opposing

  685. the gospel. We can, I mean, we can pray people

  686. away from positions where they stood against

  687. the gospel. And that can happen. They can be

  688. changed. Things can happen. They can decide to

  689. leave the place themselves. So this is the miraculous

  690. power. So what we see here is that the body was

  691. no harm. The physical body was no harm. But the

  692. physical body could not function for a season.

  693. Okay? The eyes could not function for... So this

  694. is a miraculous intervention in the case when

  695. the gospel is being opposed. Now let's find a

  696. few exceptions and we'll just spend some time

  697. on that and close. 2 Kings 1 .6 -5 2 Kings 1

  698. .6 -5 So we are not praying for people to lose

  699. their sight forever, to die or to break their

  700. bones. No, we're not praying for that because

  701. Jesus is showing a pattern, right? He's teaching

  702. us a pattern. So from chapter 1, verse 6 to 15,

  703. it said, And they said unto him, There came a

  704. man up to meet us and said unto us, Go and turn

  705. again unto the king. that sent you. And say unto

  706. him, Thus says the Lord, Is it because there

  707. is no God in Israel that thou sendest to inquire

  708. of Beelzebub, the God of Ekron? Therefore thou

  709. shalt not come down from the bed on which thou

  710. hast gone up, but thou shalt surely die. Right?

  711. Thou shalt surely die. Now, this is a pattern

  712. that is, you can see it in the Old Testament,

  713. what we call the Old Testament text. But when

  714. we pay attention, To the epistles, to the gospels,

  715. we don't find such pattern. Do we get it? The

  716. pattern, well, the first thing you have to check

  717. is that what the prophets Elijah said, was it

  718. wrong? No, the first statement was not wrong.

  719. The statement that, is it that there's no God

  720. in Israel that you go about seeking an idol?

  721. So that's a good statement, right? It's more

  722. or less, we can say it's also more or less propagating

  723. the gospel, meaning that there is God, right?

  724. You should hear from the God of Israel, not going

  725. after idols. So that's very justified, right?

  726. That is very justified. So is there no God? Now,

  727. the question is, how did the prophets, right?

  728. How did the prophets function and address? Now,

  729. in the New Testament text, definitely you would

  730. know. that what will happen is that healing will

  731. take place and the people will believe, right?

  732. Did you see that pattern consistently? Healing

  733. will take place and the people will believe.

  734. The people will be delivered from evil spirits

  735. and they will believe. But here, something different

  736. happened, which Jesus also referred to. The prophet

  737. actually said, the king himself should die, right?

  738. That is the first thing. Now look at subsequent

  739. statements that followed. Look at subsequent

  740. statements that followed. He said unto them,

  741. What manner of man was he which came up to meet

  742. you? Verse 7. And told you these words. And they

  743. answered him, He was a hairy man gilded with

  744. gildo of leather about his loins. And he said,

  745. It is Elijah the Tishbite. And the king sent

  746. unto him a captain of fifty, which is fifty.

  747. And he went up to him, and behold, he sat on

  748. the top of the hill, and he spake unto him, Thou,

  749. O man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

  750. And Elijah answered and said to the captain of

  751. fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come

  752. down from heaven and consume thee, and thy fifty.

  753. And there came fire down from heaven and consumed

  754. him and his fifty. And again also, He sent unto

  755. him another captain of 50 with 50. And he answered

  756. and said unto him, O man of God, just said the

  757. king, come down quickly. And Elijah said unto

  758. them, if I be a man of God, let fire come down

  759. from heaven and consume thee and thy 50. And

  760. fire from of God, as written here, came down

  761. from heaven and consumed him and the 50. And

  762. 13 again. Now until... And he sent again a captain

  763. of the third 50 with 50. And the third captain

  764. of 50 went up and came and fell on his knees

  765. before Elijah and besought him and said to him,

  766. O man of God, I pray thee. Now he pleaded, let

  767. my life and the life of this 50 thy servant be

  768. precious in their sight. What's a wise captain?

  769. A wise captain did that. Now the question is,

  770. Can we say this is the miraculous? Can we say

  771. this is the miraculous? Okay. Don't forget the

  772. miraculous. Let's now pick it together. The miraculous

  773. is taking place through the spirit of Christ.

  774. Are we together? Are we all on the same page

  775. on that? That the miraculous takes place through

  776. the spirit of Christ. That is why. From beginning,

  777. I will not have you to be ignorant. Things concerning

  778. spiritual. So the miraculous takes place through

  779. the spirit of Christ. Right? We see that. Now,

  780. two things has been mentioned here. The king

  781. should die and the 50 died. Of course, the king

  782. is still a prophecy. The other one is already

  783. taking place. Can the spirit of Christ produce

  784. death? That becomes the question. Can the Spirit

  785. of Christ produce death? Now, this is one of

  786. the places where the disciples understood this

  787. power. There was still something that happened

  788. there. And they wanted to work in the power of

  789. Elijah. Luke 9, verse 51. Let's go to Luke 9,

    Luke 9:51 Luke 9:51

  790. verse 51. Amidst all the things that happened

  791. in the Old Testament, this was one that was supposedly

  792. desired by the disciples. To be practiced. So

  793. Luke 9, 51 to 56. The disciples desired. Now

  794. look at the context. It's also like an opposition

  795. to the gospel. This one also is like opposition

  796. to the serving and worship of God. Luke chapter

    Luke 9 chapter mention

  797. 9 is also similar. Opposition to what Christ

  798. wants to do. He said, and it came to pass. When

  799. the time was come. that he should be what? Received

  800. of. Right? So he's talking about the death, burial

  801. and resurrection of Christ. He stood by the side

  802. of his face to go to Jerusalem. Verse 52. And

  803. sent messengers before his face and they went

  804. and entered into a village of the Samaritans

  805. to make ready for him. 53. Look at the offense.

  806. And they did not receive him because his face

  807. was as though he would go to Jerusalem. So it

  808. means that in a place it was not received. And

  809. the disciples said what? And when the disciples,

  810. James and John, saw this, you won't receive the

  811. Lord. They said, Lord, without that, we command

  812. fire to come down from heaven and consume them,

  813. even as Elias did. So, some people, right, are

  814. opposing. So he sent messengers to them and went

  815. to the village to make ready for him. So they're

  816. not ready to make ready for Christ. That's all

  817. I can say. So they're not receiving Christ. They're

  818. not giving him an attention. They're not allowing

  819. him to come into their cities. We have this opposition.

  820. Can we just call down fire? Just like Elias did.

  821. And just clear this city. And show them that

  822. there is God in Israel. because of course that

  823. was what Elijah was trying to prove by cursing

  824. the death of the king and cursing the 50 to die.

  825. Can we just show them that there's God in Israel

  826. by sending down fire? But look at what Jesus

  827. responded, which is crucial. He said, but he

  828. turned and rebuked them and said, ye know not

  829. what manner of spirit ye are. For the son of

  830. man is not come to destroy man's life, but to

  831. save them. And what did Jesus do? He went to

  832. another village. Did you see that? Jesus moved

  833. on to another village. That was his response.

  834. He moved on to another village. So, starting

  835. from what Elias did. Jesus said that he's literally

  836. saying that Elias' example in what he did is

  837. not an example to you. That is not the pattern

  838. you would follow. as my disciples, as those who

  839. would carry my message, that is not the pattern

  840. you would follow. So that was just it. So you

  841. don't know what manner of spirit you are of.

  842. That if you will walk in the spirit of Christ,

  843. it does not function this way. It does not use

  844. death to cause people even in the point of opposition

  845. to the gospel. That's what he just said, right?

  846. He's not going to use, he's not going to cost

  847. debts to people even when they are opposing.

  848. So, the difference, right, in what we saw that

  849. happened to Elymas, that happened to Paul, right,

  850. is that in their lives, they continued their

  851. life afterwards. They had the privilege to hear

  852. the gospel. They had the privilege because they

  853. were not blind forever. Paul had the privilege.

  854. We can see how that ended. And it took time to

  855. write the entire, you know, most of the epistles.

  856. So it shows that the man himself was not destroyed,

  857. but he remained a vessel that can be used by

  858. God. But in this context, when men are destroyed,

  859. right, especially those who are in unbelief and

  860. in opposition to the gospel, They add nothing

  861. to the kingdom. Do we get it? They add nothing

  862. to the kingdom. So it therefore teaches us to

  863. pray, right? It teaches us and shape our prayer

  864. life that when we pray, right? For those who

  865. hate us, those who oppose the gospel, those who

  866. stop us, right? From doing what God has called

  867. us to do. It is not to pray for them. that they

  868. would die to the point where they wouldn't receive

  869. the gospel. I mean, that is what Jesus is saying.

  870. So his desire is that as much as they oppose

  871. you, they must be saved. So looking from the

  872. example of Paul, it means that we can pray that

  873. they can be blind for a season. They can be taken

  874. out of space. The natural circumstances around

  875. them can take them away. Natural circumstances

  876. can shift them away so that you can function.

  877. Not that they would lose their life, but circumstances

  878. around them would change their trajectory so

  879. that you can preach the gospel, so that you can

  880. live the life that Christ has called you to live.

  881. Your prayer still for them is that they will

  882. be saved. Do we get it? So the miraculous will

  883. not cause deaths. That's it. The miraculous will

  884. not cause death. Whatever caused death, we have

  885. to investigate it. Whatever caused death. Even

  886. if the person says, in the name of Jesus, we

  887. need to investigate it. Don't forget, someone

  888. was saying these are the servants of the living

  889. God and she was fully possessed and she was,

  890. you know, one supplying money to her owners.

  891. If you read that statement alone, you would think

  892. she's saved. So, math statements does not really

  893. emphasize. So, what I'm trying to say is that

  894. We must know how to pray while we are desiring

  895. the miraculous. Now, when prayer was made for

  896. Paul, it is not that the gods should die. We've

  897. never seen that in active, that none of them

  898. pray that Herod should die. None of them pray

  899. that the jailer should die. None of them pray

  900. that it is always that Paul will be delivered.

  901. And that is why we pray that prayer that will

  902. be delivered from unreasonable men. Right? Because

  903. not all men have what? Faith. It means that there

  904. are people who are faithless, right? They would

  905. want to oppose you all the time. But your prayer

  906. for them is that you are regularly delivered.

  907. If you read the entire book of Acts, you will

  908. see how God regularly delivers Paul from the

  909. hands of his enemies. Right? Through different

  910. circumstances. So our prayers as believers is

  911. that we will know how to, we will pray in a direction

  912. that will still preserve life that men can be

  913. saved. That men can be saved. You can put this

  914. other one's scripture down. Let's also clear

  915. this one before we go. Exodus 22 verse 18. Exodus

    Exodus 22:18 Exodus 22:18

  916. 22, verse 18. Exodus 22, verse 18. This is one

    Exodus 22:18

  917. other scripture in the Old Testament that actually

  918. shows something about God. Now, Exodus 22, verse

    Exodus 22:18

  919. 18. Is anybody there? We will pray that they

  920. will be blind for a season. We will pray that

  921. they would not have capacity to come out when

  922. we are preaching. We will pray that they would

  923. be distracted. Are we there? 22 verse 18. He

  924. said, thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

  925. Right? You can read from verse 16. And if a man

  926. is saying, okay, I think those are just part

  927. of the law. Just that verse 18. He said, thou

  928. shalt not suffer a witch to live. It therefore

  929. means that, because this is one of the scriptures

  930. that people say, well, Moses wrote, right? That

  931. we should not allow a sorcerer to live. But all

  932. the sorcerers that we have been reading in the

  933. New Testament, none of them were killed. Are

  934. we together? None of Olimaz was not killed. The

  935. lady was not killed. The one that the damsel

  936. was not killed. So we did not find anywhere in

  937. the New Testament text where sorcerers are being

  938. killed. But rather, they are being delivered.

  939. Do we get it? They are being delivered and they

  940. come to the knowledge. Right? The women that

  941. were delivered from evil spirits, they came to

  942. the knowledge of God. Now, so what is the problem?

  943. It therefore means that, of course, as we are

  944. teaching, we are going to teach the law, why

  945. Moses wrote more than one. But here, one of the

  946. things that we can pay attention here is that

  947. because this statement was mentioned only once

  948. in the entire, Old Testament and the New Testament,

  949. we cannot use it as a measure or what would determine

  950. what we pray. It was mentioned once in an entire

  951. Bible, so it cannot stand as the basis of how

  952. we pray, to pray that a witch should die. So

  953. it means that your prayer life is not built on

  954. one verse. Look at how we moved from prayer was

  955. made for Paul, or for Peter rather, and how we

  956. connected it to James, right? And there are several

  957. scriptures that teaches us that we will and can

  958. be delivered by the power of prayer. But here,

  959. there are no scriptures that consistently follow

  960. this pattern. Well, rather, we've seen several

  961. scriptures that consistently show how sorcerers

  962. are being delivered. Therefore, Where would your

  963. doctrine be? On the one or on the several that

  964. shows how the witch is being delivered? On the

  965. several. That is what they call in, how would

  966. I put it? I said, there has to be witnessing

  967. scriptures to what you practice. You must have

  968. witnessing scriptures. So if you are practicing

  969. something as a believer, there have to be witnessing

  970. scriptures to that thing. You cannot use one

  971. scripture. If one or two or three scriptures

  972. does not solidly establish, we cannot pick up

  973. that. So that was just once across the scripture

  974. and the New Testament, we never found such a

  975. practice again. So, I think we'll stop here for

  976. today, right? My prayer is just that as we go...

  977. That you'll pray for yourself that I know how

  978. to walk in the miraculous. I know how to pray

  979. to make the miraculous take place. I will not

  980. cause that. I don't cause that. I cause life

  981. to be established. I cause people to come to

  982. the knowledge of Jesus. We appreciate you being

  983. here today. We hope you carry this word with

  984. you throughout your week. Until next time, stay

  985. blessed.
