  1. Welcome to NECF sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out, stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. Matthew chapter 28 So, we're going

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  6. to continue in what I've been teaching, that

  7. is the union of the spirit we have. The union

  8. of the spirit we have. So, this is the third

  9. part. Matthew chapter 28, from verse 18 to 20.

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  10. and he came and Jesus came and spoke to them,

  11. saying, All authority has been given me in heaven

  12. and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples

  13. of all nations, baptizing them in the name of

  14. the Father, of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit,

  15. teaching them to observe all the things that

  16. have commanded you and lower with you always,

  17. even to the end of the age. Praise the Lord!

  18. In the previous teaching that I was teaching,

  19. I told us that geography is important to understand

  20. the message of the scripture. Geography is important

  21. to also understand God's plan or why some of

  22. the things that we see in the Bible are the way

  23. they are. We looked at Galilee of the Gentile

  24. and how that was significant to the plan of God.

  25. We looked at Jerusalem as well as part of the

  26. things that we were looking at. And today, we're

  27. going to also look at why He said to baptize

  28. them in the name of the Father, the Son, and

  29. the Holy Spirit and many more things that we're

  30. going to look at, but this is just one of them.

  31. Mark chapter 16. Mark chapter 16. Mark chapter

Mark 16 chapter mention Mark 16 chapter mention Mark 16 chapter mention

  32. 16. From verse 15 to 20 Mark chapter 16 from

    Mark 16 chapter mention

  33. verse 15 to 20 He says and he said to them go

  34. into all the world and preach the gospel to every

  35. creature He who believes and is baptized will

  36. be saved, for he who does not believe will be

  37. condemned. And these signs will follow those

  38. who believe. In my name they will cast out demons,

  39. they will speak with new tongues, they will take

  40. up serpents, and if they drink anything deadly,

  41. it will by no means hurt them. They will lay

  42. hands on the sick and they will recover. So then,

  43. after the Lord had spoken to them, he was received

  44. up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God

  45. the Father, verse 20. And they went out, preached

  46. everywhere, the Lord walking with them, and confirming

  47. their word through the accompanying of signs.

  48. Amen. John chapter 20. John chapter 20, verse

John 20 chapter mention John 20:21

  49. 21. John 20, verse 21, So Jesus said to them

    John 20:21

  50. again, Peace to you! As the Father has sent me,

  51. I also send you. And when he had said this, he

  52. breathed on them and said to them, Receive the

  53. Holy Spirit! If you forgive the sins of any,

  54. they will be forgiven. If you retain the sin

  55. of any, they are retained. Praise the Lord! And

  56. we have looked at these scriptures and we said

  57. that this is the mandate of every believer to

  58. go and make disciples. To go and make disciples.

  59. And this is one of the few last words that Jesus

  60. spoke to his disciples. That is John 20, right?

  61. And we said again that the things that Jesus

  62. spoke from or where he taught them from was from

  63. the old testament if you like from genesis to

  64. malachi praise the lord look chapter 24 covers

  65. 25 to 26 we also looked at this the last time

  66. we were here look 24 25 to 27 then he said to

  67. them O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe

  68. in all that the prophet hath spoken, but not

  69. the Christ, who hath suffered these things, and

  70. enter his glory. And beginning at Moses, and

  71. in all the prophets, he expounded to them, in

  72. all the scriptures, the things concerning himself.

  73. And we say that what he did was that he taught

  74. them the things concerning himself, via the scriptures.

  75. Right? He taught them. He explained the scriptures.

  76. to them and then in verse 44 to 45 verse 44 to

  77. 45 and he said to them these are the words which

  78. I spoke to you while I was still with you that

  79. all things must be fulfilled which are written

  80. in the law of Moses the prophet and in the Psalms

  81. concerning me and he opened their understanding

  82. that they may comprehend the scriptures and we

  83. said this opening of understanding is by explanation

  84. Praise the Lord! He opened their understanding

  85. by explanation. So, all the things that were

  86. read from Matthew, from Luke, from John, were

  87. all explanation of the Old Testament. Praise

  88. the Lord! Jesus was explaining to them the Old

  89. Testament. So, let's go back to Matthew 28. Verse

  90. 19 says, Go therefore and make disciples of all

  91. nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,

  92. the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord!

  93. He tells them to go and make disciples. Praise

  94. the Lord! It means to train people as it is like

  95. a school. Praise the Lord! To go and train them

  96. like a school. The church plays a huge role in

  97. teaching. It is a Bible school. Praise the Lord!

  98. The church ought to be a Bible school. We have

  99. explained this time and time again to us. It

  100. serves as a Bible school. It is not a place of

  101. entertainment. It is not a place of other things,

  102. but it is a Bible school. is a place where disciples

  103. are made. So he says to them, to go and make

  104. disciples. In verse 20, he says, teaching them

  105. to observe all the things that have commanded

  106. you and law and with you always, even to the

  107. end of the age. Teaching them, right? To make

  108. disciples, to make them students by teaching

  109. them. Praise the Lord! And the things that he

  110. has commanded them is the things that we said

  111. were all from the law of Moses or the writing

  112. of Moses and the prophet and the sons consigning

  113. him. So the church serves as a teaching place.

  114. So when you go to a place or when you go to a

  115. church and there is no teaching, there is every

  116. other thing, but there is no teaching, you have

  117. not walked into a church. Praise the Lord! It

  118. is a place of service. It is a place where God's

  119. word is taught. Or it ought to be a place where

  120. God's word And as it's being taught, you're not

  121. just looking, praise the Lord! You're not just

  122. looking and... As we said, the church is not

  123. an entertaining place. So, when you come, you

  124. also should not be expecting entertainment. Praise

  125. the Lord! So, you come like somebody who is a

  126. student, somebody who is willing and is able

  127. to learn, somebody who listens to the instructions

  128. that is given to make disciples. Right? That

  129. word to make disciples is used for scholars.

  130. Praise the Lord! It is used for scholars. In

  131. other words, that we are supposed to be people

  132. who are students of the Bible. Praise the Lord!

  133. Every church member, it's not to the pastors,

  134. it's not just to the people that are teaching,

  135. that everybody has to be acquainted with the

  136. Bible. Everybody has to know what what is saying.

  137. We should be students deliberately learning from

  138. the Word of God Teaching them is a word Disasco

  139. as we said in the Greek D -I -D -A -S -K -O It

  140. means to teach to instruct right it comes from

  141. a compound word Didascalia right is a word D

  142. -I -D -A -S -K -A -L -I -A right It's a body

  143. of belief or doctrine, if you like. Praise the

  144. Lord. It's the same way you would, you know,

  145. there are different ways you can look at life.

  146. Some people can explain the, maybe through the

  147. lens of natural things, what you can see. Praise

  148. the Lord. Or through a medical lens, right? Or

  149. through... through a psychological lens. You

  150. can look at life like that or you can interpret

  151. life like that. But when it comes to doctrine,

  152. when it comes to doctrine, it is the explanation

  153. or when it comes to theology, it is explaining

  154. life from God's perspective. Praise the Lord!

  155. That's what we come to do in church. We come

  156. to explain the things of life or the things that

  157. God has instructed us. in its perspective, not

  158. by the things that we see. Praise the Lord. So

  159. it is called doctrine, to study things together.

  160. It includes teaching. And then we have teachers.

  161. It is also, we have teachers, the one who teaches.

  162. Praise the Lord. The one who teaches. And then

  163. most importantly, again, we have, there's so

  164. many ways they call this, It refers to a mode

  165. of teaching. Praise the Lord! Remember, we are

  166. looking at teaching them to observe all the things

  167. that He has commanded you. It refers to a mode

  168. of teaching. So, Jesus gave His disciples a mode

  169. of teaching. Praise the Lord! When he says that

  170. he began from Moses and in all the prophets and

  171. in all the sons and he began to explain to them

  172. the things concerning himself, he was giving

  173. them a mode of teaching, a style of teaching.

  174. Praise the Lord! There is a mode of teaching.

  175. Praise the Lord! So how do we know this? How

  176. do we know that there is a mode of teaching?

  177. Matthew chapter 16 verse 12. Matthew chapter

    Matthew 16:12 Matthew 16:12

  178. 16 verse 12. He says, then they understood that

  179. he did not tell them to beware of the leavens

  180. of the Pharisee. for the doctrine of the Pharisees

  181. and Sadducees. Praise the Lord! When he tells

  182. them the doctrine of the Pharisees and the Sadducees,

  183. what he is trying to say to them is that the

  184. Pharisees and the Sadducees have a mode of teaching.

  185. Praise the Lord! There is a mode of teaching.

  186. There is a way they touch people. There is a

  187. pattern in which they touch people and it is

  188. not the same as that which Christ has taught.

  189. Praise the Lord! So, when he tells them, Beware!

  190. They already have gotten something from him.

  191. So he tells them to beware of the doctrine of

  192. the Pharisees. He warns them of the doctrines

  193. of the Pharisees. Their doctrine is their mode

  194. of teaching. How they taught. Mostly they taught

  195. out of context. We see several times they would

  196. just lift one scripture and come and ask him

  197. a question. Praise the Lord. or tell people to

  198. do things as it pleases them. Praise the Lord!

  199. And we're going to look at much more, right?

  200. In Matthew chapter 19, he also taught them that

    Matthew 19 chapter mention

  201. they should beware, or he taught them about covetousness.

  202. It is one of the things that the Pharisees thought.

  203. It was also part of their mode of teaching. He

  204. warned them of material things. He warns them

  205. of covetousness. The doctrine that is full of

  206. material things. Praise the Lord. Luke chapter

    Luke 16:14

  207. 16 verse 14. We see them mocking Jesus's teaching

  208. or interpretation of the scriptures. Luke chapter

    Luke 16:14

  209. 16 verse 14. Now the Pharisees who were lovers

  210. of money also had all these things and they derated

  211. him. Praise the Lord. They laughed at him. Praise

  212. the Lord. After hearing his teaching, they laughed

  213. at him. Why? He says, they were what? They were

  214. lovers of money. Praise the Lord! They were lovers

  215. of money and he was teaching contrary to the

  216. things that they want or the things they like.

  217. So beware of covetousness. So if you go on to

  218. begin to explain the scriptures on... from the

  219. perspective or the mode of covetousness, what

  220. you're trying to do is that you're trying to

  221. invest in material things. Praise the Lord. You're

  222. trying to invest in material things. Matthew

    Matthew 20:14

  223. chapter 20 verse 14. He tells them of their covetous

  224. attitude. He says what? Take what is yours and

  225. go your way. I wish to give the last man the

  226. same as you. Matthew chapter 16 verse 12. We

    Matthew 16:12

  227. have read that already, that turns them to beware.

  228. So, Jesus has a mode of interpretation. Praise

  229. the Lord! Jesus has a mode of interpreting scriptures.

  230. Daida hei. Praise the Lord! Matthew chapter 7

    Matthew 7:28

  231. verse 28. Matthew chapter 7 verse 28. And it

    Matthew 7:28

  232. was so when Jesus had ended his saying that the

  233. people were astonished at his teaching. Praise

  234. the Lord! He has the mode of teaching. And we

  235. have looked at it in this church that he didn't

  236. just tell them whatever he pleased. Praise the

  237. Lord! Even when we see that later, even when

  238. the devil came to tempt him, he didn't just tell

  239. him anything. He quoted the scriptures for him.

  240. Praise the Lord! So Jesus had the mode of teaching,

  241. of interpreting the scriptures. There's a mole

  242. of teaching, of interpreting the scriptures.

  243. There's a way to explain the Word of God and

  244. as disciples or as children of God, we need to

  245. learn that. Titus chapter 1 verse 9, it talks

    Titus 1:9

  246. about the bishop, right? Somebody who has taken

  247. the responsibility in a local church or as a

  248. pastor. It's a world first, the faithful world

  249. as you have been taught that that he may be able,

  250. sorry, that he may be, hold fast the faithful

  251. word as he has been taught that he may be able

  252. by sound doctrine or to exalt and obey those

  253. who contradict. Praise the Lord! Speaking of

  254. a bishop, someone who has taken a responsibility

  255. in a local church, right? He doesn't just say

  256. whatever he wants to say. He learns from that

  257. which Christ has said. He doesn't just preach

  258. anything that he feels like. There is a mode

  259. of teaching the scriptures. There is a way that

  260. the scriptures is being taught. Romans chapter

    Romans 6:17

  261. 6 verse 17. You see, but God will be telling

  262. that through you, though you were slaves of sin,

  263. yet you obeyed from the heart, that form of doctrine

  264. to which you were delivered. Praise the Lord.

  265. that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

  266. When it says form of doctrine, that word form

  267. there is the same thing to say copy. Praise the

  268. Lord. It's the same way as saying that you copied

  269. something. Praise the Lord. It's a mode of teaching.

  270. The copy of the mode of teaching. Praise the

  271. Lord. So which means that in a church or in a

  272. Christian gathering or in Christian, we copy

  273. each other. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.

  274. We copy each other. We copy the mode of teaching.

  275. Praise the Lord. Why? Because Jesus has a way

  276. that he taught. Romans chapter 16 verse 17. There's

    Romans 16:17

  277. a mode of teaching. Then he warns them. Romans

    Romans 16:17

  278. chapter 16 verse 17. Now I urge you brethren,

  279. not those who cause division and offenses. Contrary

  280. to the doctrines which you have learned and avoid

  281. them praise the lord he warns them that they

  282. should not those who are teaching something else

  283. right those who are causing division and offenses

  284. those who are teaching things that are contrary

  285. to that which you have learned and he says avoid

  286. them this means that you should not teach like

  287. the Pharisees praise the lord so when you see

  288. somebody right Teach the scriptures as the Pharisee.

  289. You should avoid them. Praise the Lord who are

  290. teaching to benefit self He said avoid them avoid

  291. such people. There's no truth in poison Praise

  292. the Lord. There's no truth in poison verse 18

  293. of that same place He said For those For those

  294. who are such, who do not serve our Lord Jesus

  295. Christ, they are barely. Praise the Lord! They

  296. don't teach our Lord Jesus Christ. What they

  297. are trying to teach is for something else. They

  298. have smooth words, they have flattering words.

  299. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! As I mentioned earlier,

  300. as we said, the church is a place where we come

  301. to learn the Word of God, where we come to be

  302. disciples, where we come with the eagerness to

  303. be taught, to grow, praise the Lord. So, when

  304. you come to church, when you come to the house

  305. of God, you come as somebody who wants to learn.

  306. Right? It should not be that you have stayed

  307. in church for a very long time and your interest

  308. or the things that you focus on the more is,

  309. ah, the song today, I was all feeling it. Praise

  310. the Lord. It was not, it was all my type of song.

  311. They didn't teach or they didn't sing my type

  312. of song today, right? Or they didn't do some

  313. things that were exciting to me. Praise the Lord.

  314. You leave those things and you grow. That you

  315. come to church because you want to hear the Word

  316. of God. You want to learn from the Word of God.

  317. You come to the place of knowledge. Praise the

  318. Lord. So Jesus had a way of teaching. So we also

  319. find this, or we also find that this Father,

  320. Son and the Spirit also is also a teaching praise

  321. the Lord is a mode also of teaching Acts chapter

    Acts 1:4

  322. 1 verse 4 Acts chapter 1 verse 4 and he said

    Acts 1:4

  323. being assembled together with them he commanded

  324. them not to depart from Jerusalem but to wait

  325. for the promise of the father which He said,

  326. You have heard from Me. Praise the Lord! You

  327. have heard from Me. Remember, before now, Jesus

  328. had spent 40 days with them. Right? He had spent

  329. 40 days with them, verse 2 -3. Verse 2 -3. Until

  330. the day in which He was taken up, after He, through

  331. the Holy Spirit, had given commandment to the

  332. apostles, whom He has chosen to whom He also

  333. presents Himself alive after suffering by many

  334. infallible truths, being seen by them during

  335. forty days and spoke the things pertaining to

  336. the kingdom of God. Praise the Lord! The things

  337. pertaining to the kingdom of God. He says what?

  338. Through the Holy Spirit or through the Holy Ghost.

  339. We say it through the Holy Ghost. Which means

  340. that He spoke by revelation the things to come.

  341. Praise the Lord. When He says to them, they should

  342. wait. He showed them the things to come, right?

  343. And He gave them instructions concerning the

  344. things to come. And this word, he says what is

  345. true the Holy Ghost or through the Holy Spirit.

  346. Now let's look at what the instruction was. There's

  347. four of their acts. And being assembled together

  348. with them, he commanded them not to depart from

  349. Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the

  350. Father, which he said, you have heard from me.

  351. So, he has told them or he has taught them about

  352. what? The promise of the Father. What is this

  353. promise? Praise the Lord! What is this promise

  354. of the Father? And he says, you have heard it

  355. from me. I have taught you about it before. So,

  356. I'm asking you now to wait. What is it that you

  357. heard from me? So, in teaching, he taught them

  358. the promise of the Father. Praise the Lord! So,

  359. the things that we're expecting... was not just

  360. something that they are unaware about. Praise

  361. the Lord! The things they were expecting were

  362. not things that they are unaware about. Praise

  363. the Lord! That is why in this church when we

  364. are praying and we find out that some people

  365. cannot speak in tongues, what we first do is

  366. not to ask you to speak. Praise the Lord! We

  367. first want to open the scriptures for you so

  368. that you may understand. Praise the Lord! That

  369. you may understand the things that you're doing.

  370. So he had taught them about the promise of the

  371. Father So they are aware of the things to come

  372. The promise of the Father verse 5 He said for

  373. John truly baptized with water But you shall

  374. be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days

  375. from now the promise of the Father that they

  376. will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many

  377. days from now. Verse 8. But you shall receive

  378. power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you,

  379. and you shall be witnesses to me in Jerusalem,

  380. in Judea, and in Samaria, and to all the end

  381. of the earth. Praise the Lord! Now, with this

  382. place, we have seen the Father, We have seen

  383. what? The Spirit. And we have seen Christ, the

  384. Son. So, in Dei Dahe, you have the concept of

  385. what? The Father, the Son, which is the Christ.

  386. Praise the Lord. John chapter 14, we see more

    John 14 chapter mention

  387. on that. John chapter 14, verse 2. He says, What

    John 14:2

  388. in my father's house are many mansions. In my

  389. father's house are many mansions. If we are not

  390. so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a

  391. place for you. We have done these studies. Verse

  392. 6, And Jesus said to them, I am the way, the

  393. truth, the life. No one comes to the Father except

  394. through me. Nobody comes to the Father except

  395. through Him. So, when He says to them, the Father,

  396. the Son, and the Spirit, It is something that

  397. they are aware about, something that He has taught

  398. them about. And we see them here. He said, nobody

  399. comes to the Father except through Him. So, they

  400. know about the Father, they know about the Son,

  401. and they know about the Spirit. Verse 7, And

  402. if you had known Me, you would have known My

  403. Father also. From now on, you know Him and have

  404. Because they know Him, they have what? Seen Him.

  405. Because they know Christ, they have seen the

  406. Father. You would have known my Father also.

  407. Verse 9. And Jesus said to them, I have been

  408. with you so long and yet you have not known me,

  409. Philip. He who has seen me has seen the Father.

  410. So how can you say, show us the Father? Praise

  411. the Lord. So, they are aware of the Spirit, the

  412. Son, and the Father because He has taught them

  413. over and over again. Praise the Lord! He has

  414. taught them over and over again. So, when He

  415. says in Matthew chapter 29 and verse 19 that

  416. He baptized them in the name of the Father, the

  417. Son, and the Spirit, it is not a new idea. Praise

  418. the Lord! It is not a new idea to them because

  419. He has been teaching them consigning the Father,

  420. the Son and the Spirit. Praise the Lord! He has

  421. been teaching them consigning the Father, the

  422. Son and the Spirit, verse 10 of John chapter

    John 14 chapter mention

  423. 14. Do you not believe that I am in the Father

  424. and the Father in me? The word that I speak to

  425. you, I did not speak to you of my own authority,

  426. but the Father who delivered, who dwells in me,

  427. does the work. He also tells them about the Father.

  428. Verse 16. I will pray the Father and he will

  429. give you another helper that he may abide with

  430. you forever. Right? So he will pray the Father

  431. and the Father will give another helper that

  432. he may abide with them forever. So he also tells

  433. them what? About the Spirit. Praise the Lord!

  434. Verse 20 now. He said, At that day you will know

  435. that I am in my Father, and you in me, and I

  436. in you. Praise the Lord! So, the disciples have

  437. learned about the Father, the Son, and the Spirit.

  438. So, when he says, baptize them in the name of

  439. the Father, the Son, and the Spirit, it is not

  440. a new thing to them. It is by teaching that they

  441. know these things. So, there is a strong emphasis,

  442. or from Christ, there is a strong emphasis on

  443. what the doctrine of Christ, the Father, the

  444. Son, and the Spirit. Which means that, that is,

  445. Jesus, the Spirit emphasizes is what in the Didache

  446. that you have in Jesus, praise the Lord. That

  447. is in the incarnation, the birth of the Son.

  448. That is Jesus taking the human form, right? Being

  449. born of Mary. So it says the Holy Spirit, when

  450. you read Luke chapter 1 verse 35, it says that

    Luke 1:35

  451. the Holy Spirit or the Holy Ghost will come upon

  452. you. Right? That is the very inception or introduction

  453. of this. The Holy Spirit will come upon you.

  454. So it means that the concept of the Spirit is

  455. core to the teaching of Jesus. Praise the Lord.

  456. Even from the beginning, before he took on the

  457. human form, that has always been there. Praise

  458. the Lord. It is core to part of his teaching.

  459. So, looking at the union of the spirit that we

  460. have, right? Do not forget we said that Jesus

  461. was teaching from Genesis to Malachi. This is

  462. very important. Acts chapter 1 verse 5. It says,

    Acts 1:5

  463. For John truly baptized with water, but you shall

  464. be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days

  465. from now. This means that Jesus was quoting someone

  466. who did not write any book. Praise the Lord.

  467. Did John the Baptist write any book? Did John

  468. the Baptist write any book? Okay. So Jesus was

  469. quoting John the Baptist who did not write any

  470. book. Right? He quoted John the Baptist what?

  471. Among the prophets. Right? So he's quoting John

  472. the Baptist. Why? From among the prophets. John

  473. the Baptist did not write any book. John the

  474. Baptist came to fulfill the written word. Praise

  475. the Lord! It has been prophesied on signing him.

  476. So let's focus a bit on John. Matthew chapter

    Matthew 3 chapter mention

  477. 3. Matthew chapter 3 verse 11. unto repentance.

    Matthew 3:11

  478. For he who is coming after me is mightier than

  479. I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry, who

  480. baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. Verse

  481. 8. Verse 8 of chapter 3. He said, Therefore bear

  482. the fruit worthy of repentance. Sorry. Mark chapter

    Mark 1:8

  483. 1 verse 8. Mark chapter 1 verse 8. I indeed baptize

    Mark 1:8

  484. you with water, but he will baptize you with

  485. what? The Holy Spirit, saying the same thing

  486. that we saw in Matthew chapter 3 verse 11. So

    Matthew 3:11

  487. Jesus referenced John in what? The resurrection.

  488. Right? Jesus referenced John in the resurrection.

  489. He didn't say a lot about Him before the resurrection.

  490. But John said it or said these things before

  491. the ministry of Jesus. Praise the Lord! Do you

  492. understand that? Let me say that again. John

  493. or Jesus did not say many things about John before

  494. the resurrection. He said it after resurrection.

  495. What did he say? Right? John was the one who

  496. was saying that he would baptize you with fire,

  497. with the Holy Spirit and with fire, and Jesus

  498. was telling them to wait. Where? To wait for

  499. the promise of the Father. So John was saying

  500. this at the beginning of Jesus' ministry. So

  501. this means that what John said is a post -resurrection

  502. experience. What John was saying to them that,

  503. He that is coming after me will baptize you with

  504. what? With the Holy Spirit and with fire. He

  505. is speaking of what? The post -resurrection experience.

  506. Jesus did not baptize them with the Holy Spirit

  507. and with fire before the resurrection. Luke chapter

    Luke 3:16

  508. 3 verse 16. He will baptize you with spirit and

  509. with fire. John chapter 1 verse 33. John chapter

    John 1:33 John 1:33

  510. 1 verse 33. I do not know him, but he who sent

  511. me to baptize with water said to me, Upon whom

  512. you see the Spirit descending and remaining on

  513. him, he is the one who baptized with what? With

  514. the Holy Spirit. Praise the Lord! So John is

  515. saying, I don't know him. I don't know who the

  516. Christ is. But the person that sent me said that

  517. if I see the Spirit descending and remaining

  518. on someone, He is the one that will baptize with

  519. what? With the Holy Spirit and with fire. So

  520. this means that John's ministry is very important

  521. in understanding the ministry of Jesus. Praise

  522. the Lord! What John stated is important to understand

  523. in the ministry of Jesus. So look at the word

  524. baptism or baptized with the Holy Spirit. Baptized

  525. with the Holy Spirit. So Mark also showed us

  526. that John came to fulfill the scriptures. Mark

    Mark 1:1

  527. chapter 1 verse 1. In the beginning of the gospel

  528. of Jesus, the Son of God, it is written in the

  529. prophet, Behold, I send my messenger before your

  530. face, who will prepare your way before you. Praise

  531. the Lord. I will send my messenger, right? I

  532. will send my messenger, verse 2. I will send

  533. my messenger. I will send that word, messenger,

  534. is the word that is used also for angels. angelos

  535. praise the lord angelos a n g e l o s is used

  536. for angels to say my angel or my messenger so

  537. behold i send my angel or my messenger before

  538. you who would prepare the way for you verse three

  539. and four of mark chapter one the voice of the

  540. one crying in the wilderness Prepare the way

  541. of the Lord. Make His path straight. Verse 4.

  542. John came baptizing in the wilderness. Right?

  543. In the wilderness. This is very significant.

  544. Preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission

  545. of sins. He came baptizing in the wilderness.

  546. Preaching the baptism of repentance. Verse 5.

  547. Then all the land of Judea and those from Jerusalem

  548. went out to him and were baptized by him in the

  549. Jordan River. Again, this Jordan River is important.

  550. Confessing their sins, confessing their sins

  551. too, is very important to what I'll be teaching.

  552. So John came, right? He said he came to fulfill

  553. the scriptures. So, what are the references for

  554. this? Where did he come to fulfill this theme?

  555. Malachi 3 verse 1, Behold, I send my messenger,

    Malachi 3:1

  556. and he will prepare before me, and the Lord whom

  557. you seek will suddenly come to his temple, even

  558. the messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight.

  559. Behold his coming, saith the Lord of hosts. Exodus

    Exodus 23:20

  560. chapter 23, verse 20, Behold, I send an angel

  561. before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring

  562. you into the peace in which I have prepared.

  563. Praise the Lord! So, these things, what John,

  564. or what was said in Mark, were all coming from

  565. this. He sends an angel to bring them into a

  566. place where he has prepared for them. Praise

  567. the Lord. Remember what Jesus said, in my father's

  568. house are many mansions. If it were not so, I

  569. wouldn't say I've gone to prepare a place. Now,

  570. what happened in the wilderness? Right? What

  571. happened in the wilderness? Because in Mark 1,

    Mark 1:3–4

  572. verse 3 to 4, He said, The voice of the one crying

  573. in the wilderness, prepare the way of the Lord.

  574. make his path straight. John came baptizing in

  575. the wilderness. He was crying in the wilderness.

  576. He was baptizing in the wilderness. And he preached

  577. a baptism of repentance for the remission of

  578. sin. What happened in the wilderness? Into the

  579. place I have prepared for you, Exodus, right?

  580. What place is he talking about? The place that

  581. he has prepared for them. What is that place?

  582. Let's look at Exodus chapter 6 verse 6. Exodus

    Exodus 6:6 Exodus 6:6

  583. chapter 6 verse 6. and I will redeem you with

  584. an outstretched hand with a great judgment. Verse

  585. 7. I will take you as my people and I will be

  586. your God and you shall know that I am the Lord

  587. your God who brings you out from under the body

  588. of the Egyptians. Praise the Lord. He will do

  589. what? He will take them as my people and I would

  590. be your God. I will take you out." Where? Where

  591. is he following them? Where are they following

  592. him to? When he's taking them out, where are

  593. they following him to? He said, to where? I will

  594. take you as what? To me, as my people, and I

  595. will be your God. So the people are coming to

  596. him, praise the Lord. The place they were going

  597. was to God. The place that we are going was to

  598. God. To whom? As my people. Verse 8. I will bring

  599. you into the land which I have sworn to give

  600. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. And I will give it

  601. to you as a heritage. I am the Lord. I will bring

  602. you into the land. So the land, with all the

  603. teachings that we have been teaching in this

  604. church, what do you think the land is? Is it

  605. a person or a land? Is it a person or a land?

  606. I'm not hearing anybody. Anybody bold enough

  607. to say something? Is it a person or a land? When

  608. he said, I will bring you into the land which

  609. I've sworn to your fathers, right? Is it a person

  610. or... land or place a person why because the

  611. land there was used figuratively because God

  612. is calling them to himself to himself rather

  613. God is calling him calling them to himself because

  614. God called himself the Almighty Genesis chapter

    Genesis 17:1

  615. 17 verse 1 Genesis chapter 17 verse 1 When Abraham

    Genesis 17:1

  616. was 99 years old, the Lord appeared to Abraham

  617. and said, I am Almighty God. Walk with me and

  618. be blameless. He says what? Walk with me. Walk

  619. with me. Or some scriptures will put the old

  620. King James... Okay. He says walk before me rather.

  621. Walk before me. Right? walk before me. Because

  622. the land that God was promising to Abraham, He

  623. was saying that that land or the promises that

  624. God gave Abraham was such that it was uncountable.

  625. Praise the Lord. Did Abraham see an uncountable?

  626. Can he count his family as long as he was alive?

  627. Praise the Lord. or the places that God was taking

  628. him to praise the Lord so when he says to land

  629. right it means to me so again remember we're

  630. looking at John the Baptist right in Mark Isaiah

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  631. chapter 40 from verse one to two Isaiah chapter

    Isaiah 40 chapter mention

  632. 40 from verse one to two Comfort, yes, comfort

  633. my people, says the Lord. Speak comfort to Jerusalem.

  634. Cry out to her that her warfare is ended, that

  635. her iniquity are pardoned, for she had received

  636. from the Lord a hand double of all her sins.

  637. Praise the Lord. Comfort. So that is, that comfort

  638. is what is God's plan, is God's compassionate

  639. work. God is saying, comfort her. Right? It's

  640. God's compassionate work. That is God's redemption.

  641. Verse 3 of that same place. The voice of the

  642. one crying in the wilderness, prepare the way

  643. of the Lord. Make straight in the desert a highway

  644. for our God. Speaking of what? John the Baptist,

  645. chapter 4 to 5. Every valley shall be exalted,

  646. and every mountain and hill brought low. The

  647. crooked places shall be made straight, and the

  648. rough places smooth. Verse 5. The glory of the

  649. Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see

  650. it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.

  651. The glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and

  652. God's plan is that all flesh might see it all

  653. together. not just a particular people remember

  654. from the last teaching we said our god's plan

  655. was not just for israel praise the lord was for

  656. the whole earth verse nine oh zion you who bring

  657. good tidings get up into the high mountains oh

  658. jerusalem you who bring good tidings Lift up

  659. your voice with strength. Lift it up. Be not

  660. afraid, says the Lord. Say to the cities of Judah,

  661. Behold your God. Behold your God. So the messenger

  662. there is to point people to who? The messenger

  663. there is to point people to God. Praise the Lord.

  664. He says what? Behold. your God. This is your

  665. God. This is Yahweh. So in Malachi, it's up to

  666. three, right? So if the messenger is human, right?

  667. Then all flesh watch shall see him. That is,

  668. behold your God. So if the messenger is human,

  669. it means that what people are going to see him

  670. and what he will say is what? Behold your God.

  671. It is what Isaiah recreated. there that God is

  672. coming as a man. So John the Baptist therefore

  673. the voice of the one in the wilderness right

  674. he's saying this is the land and we said the

  675. land there is what is to God that is come to

  676. God. He would therefore be the voice that says

  677. this is the land or this is your God. John the

  678. Baptist is the one who says what? Behold your

  679. God! This is a promise that is made to the fathers.

  680. Praise the Lord! This is a promise that is made

  681. to the fathers and the fathers are aware of this.

  682. Praise the Lord! The fathers are aware of this,

  683. so they were not looking forward to a land. Praise

  684. the Lord! They are aware of this, they were looking

  685. forward to what? Behold your God! Praise the

  686. Lord! They were looking forward to behold your

  687. God. So what does John teach us about this event?

  688. Or how did he teach us about this event? In Mark

  689. we saw, he taught it through his baptism. Praise

  690. the Lord! He taught it through his baptism. So

  691. before then, we have nobody who was baptized.

  692. The closest I was to somebody who was baptized

  693. was Nehman. Praise the Lord, right? He was the

  694. closest who was baptized or as a semblance of

  695. baptism in the Second Kings, chapter 5, from

    2 Kings 5 chapter mention

  696. 10 to 15. He was ill, as we know, and he came

  697. to Elisha saying... So Elisha said to him to

  698. go and dip himself. He started saying, is there

  699. no rivers in this place? Can't we go to another

  700. place? Are there not beautiful rivers? in my

  701. own place. Why do I have to go to a particular

  702. place? Praise the Lord. Why do I have to go to

  703. this place? And what did he say he should go?

  704. He says what? And Elisha said to him, sent his

  705. messenger out with him, and said, Go and wash

  706. in Jordan seven times. Praise the Lord. Where

  707. was John the Baptist baptized? The Jordan River.

  708. Praise the Lord. How John the Baptist was preaching

  709. or how he thought about this thing was through

  710. his baptism. He's saying that if a man comes

  711. here and he's baptized, he's showing or he's

  712. saying that behold your God. That man, his words,

  713. has come to God. So this is the closest we have

  714. to baptize it, right? That was Nehman and he

  715. was healed in verse 15 we saw. So then when we

  716. come to John the baptism or the baptism of John

  717. John the Baptist is the prophet who was prophesied

  718. right in Mark chapter 1 John goes to Jordan.

    Mark 1 chapter mention

  719. Why did he go to Jordan, right? Why did he go

  720. to Jordan was because there was a message that

  721. is communicated from that place In Acts chapter

    Acts 1:5

  722. 1 verse 5 that we read, it says what? Baptize

  723. them with what? The Holy Spirit. So the word

  724. baptize is the word Baptizo. B -A -P -T -I -Z

  725. -O. Baptizo. Right? Baptize with the Holy Spirit.

  726. You put an end to that. To that Baptizo. So when

  727. he says, baptize, let's go to Acts chapter 1

    Acts 1:5

  728. verse 5. Remember what we talked about, the Father,

  729. the Son, and the Holy Spirit, right? Acts chapter

    Acts 5 chapter mention

  730. 5, Acts chapter 1 verse 5. It says, For John

    Acts 1:5

  731. truly baptized with water, for you shall be baptized

  732. with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.

  733. So when Jesus is saying, baptized with the Holy

  734. Spirit, he's using a very broad word, right?

  735. That is to mean your baptism is in and buy and

  736. wait and add the Holy Spirit. He's using a broad

  737. word. So why Jordan? Why did they go to Jordan?

  738. Or why did John baptize in Jordan? So Jordan

  739. is a location that teaches us theology. praise

  740. the Lord Jordan is a location that teaches us

  741. theology it is a location that teaches us or

  742. takes us back to the event that Jesus was teaching

  743. from the Jordan also remember we're going to

  744. we have some scriptures right is the entry point

  745. of the children of Israel from Canaan Praise

  746. the Lord. The Jordan River is also the entry

  747. point for the children of Israel into Canaan.

  748. So again, Canaan will also see that it is an

  749. illustration, right? Jordan too, will see also

  750. that it is an illustration. So Canaan is an illustration,

  751. as we have seen the land we said is God. God

  752. who is what? O mini Hothent, right? or God who

  753. is all -sufficient, or the God of salvation.

  754. So, that land, right, what it represents is what,

  755. so when they are coming to Him, what they are

  756. saying is that they are coming for a new life,

  757. or when they come to God, or when people come

  758. to God, what they are saying, or what happens

  759. to them is a new life. So that land represents

  760. new creation in God. And Jordan is where people

  761. cross into. It is an entry point of crossing.

  762. So why is Jordan important? John goes to the

  763. same place to do his baptism. The geography is

  764. important as we have talked about and we have

  765. seen. He goes to the same place and he dips the

  766. same people into it and he brings them up. That

  767. is the act of baptism, to put them down into

  768. the water and to bring them up. What does Jordan

  769. represent? Behold, the ark of the covenant of

  770. the Lord of all the earth is crossing over before

  771. you into the Jordan. Right? It's crossing into

  772. the Jordan. It's crossing before them. Verse

  773. 5. And Joshua said to the people, sanctify yourself,

  774. for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.

  775. Verse 7. And the Lord said to Joshua, this day

  776. I will begin to exalt you in all the sight of

  777. the people, that they may know that as I am with

  778. Moses, so I will be with you. Verse 8. You shall

  779. command the priest who bears the ark of the covenant,

  780. saying, When you have come close to the edge

  781. of the water of Jordan, you shall stand in the

  782. Jordan. And it shall come to pass as soon as

  783. the soul of the feet of the priest who bears

  784. the ark of the Lord The Lord of all the earth

  785. shall rest in the waters of Jordan, that the

  786. waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, and the

  787. water that comes down from the upstream, and

  788. it shall stand as a heap. So when the people

  789. set out for their camp to cross over the Jordan,

  790. the priest bearing the Ark of the Lord came before

  791. the people. Praise the Lord! So, because of time,

  792. I will just say a few things. I will close. I

  793. will continue on Wednesday. So Jordan, I'm going

  794. to come back to this. So Jordan is the second

  795. Exodus. Praise the Lord. Jordan is the second

  796. Exodus. Jordan is God renewing his promise. in

  797. spite of the people's disobedience. It is God

  798. renewing His promise. We see that in Deuteronomy,

  799. in Genesis and all of that. So, it was the border

  800. of Egypt. It is where you cross out of Egypt.

  801. Praise the Lord! We're going to read much more

  802. and We appreciate you being here today. We hope

  803. you carry this word with you throughout your
