  1. Welcome to NECF Sermons. Each message here is

  2. designed to uplift and strengthen you in your

  3. walk with God. Don't miss out. Stay with us until

  4. the end for a rewarding experience. Let's dive

  5. right in. Amen. I want to thank God for this

  6. opportunity given to me to bring the Word to

  7. us. So I want to thank God for the pastors, also

  8. for this opportunity. Amen. So, on Sunday, we

  9. were looking at the union of the spirits we have,

  10. and we stopped somewhere, and we're going to

  11. continue there. Matthew chapter 28, Matthew chapter

Matthew 28 chapter mention Matthew 28 chapter mention

  12. 28, Matthew chapter 28, from verse 18 to 20.

    Matthew 28 chapter mention

  13. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, All

  14. authority has been given me in heaven and on

  15. earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all

  16. nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father,

  17. the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them

  18. to observe all things that I have commanded you,

  19. and lo, I am with you always, even to the end

  20. of the age. And we close on Sunday by, our focus

  21. was on that word, teaching them, that Jesus had

  22. a mode of teaching. It's the word, that he was

  23. talking about a mode of teaching, and how he

  24. went to even warn his disciples about the mode

  25. of the teachings of the Pharisees. Praise the

  26. Lord. the mode of the teachings of the Pharisees.

  27. Amen. So, we're looking at the union of spirits

  28. that we have. Now, we said that the first thing

  29. is that the gospel is for everyone. Praise the

  30. Lord. The gospel is for everyone. It's not for

  31. a particular people. It does not discriminate.

  32. Amen. And the spirit of God is for everyone.

  33. Right? So if the gospel is for everyone, the

  34. spirit of God is for everyone. Praise the Lord.

  35. John chapter 14. John chapter 14, verses 16 to

John 14 chapter mention John 14:16–17

  36. 17. We're going to continue. And he says, I will

  37. pray the Father and he will give you another

  38. helper that he may abide with you forever. The

  39. spirit of truth whom the word cannot receive.

  40. because you neither see him nor know him, but

  41. you know him, for he dwells with you and will

  42. be with you. Praise the Lord. So the essence

  43. of redemption or salvation is giving of the Spirit.

  44. Praise the Lord. Exodus chapter 29, from verse

    Exodus 29 chapter mention

  45. 44 to 46. So I will consecrate. So I will consecrate

  46. the tabernacle of meeting and altar. I will also

  47. consecrate both Aaron and his sons to minister

  48. to me as priest. I will dwell among the children

  49. of Israel and I will be their God. And they shall

  50. know that I am the Lord, their God, who brought

  51. them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may

  52. dwell among them. I am the Lord, their God. Praise

  53. the Lord. Still talking about God amongst his

  54. people, the Spirit of God among his people. So,

  55. we see Jesus also speaking of the same thing

  56. across the Synoptic Gospels. Amen. So, we read

  57. here, when we go back to the John, we read John

    John 14 chapter mention

  58. chapter 14. We will read to you from verse 16

  59. to 20. It says, I will pray the Father and he

  60. will give you another helper. that he may abide

  61. with you forever. The Spirit of truth, whom the

  62. world cannot receive, because it neither see

  63. him nor know him, but you know him, for he dwells

  64. with you and will be in you. I will not leave

  65. you orphans, I will not leave you orphans, I

  66. will come to you. A little while longer, and

  67. the world will not, the world sees me no more,

  68. but you will see me, because I live. you will

  69. live also. Verse 20. At that day, you will know

  70. that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and

  71. I in you. Praise the Lord. Right? That is, man

  72. is going to become the temple of God. We saw

  73. that in Exodus, right? So this place is talking

  74. about that man is going to be the temple of God.

  75. That is, that God would dwell, or the Spirit

  76. of God would dwell in man. Praise the Lord. So

  77. let's see the promises. Let's see the promise

  78. of God, of God's temple. Go back to that Exodus

    Exodus 29:45

  79. 29, verse 45. It says, I will dwell among the

  80. children of Israel and will be their God. Praise

  81. the Lord. He will dwell among the children of

  82. Israel and will be their God. So this is God's

  83. promise of the temple. Praise the Lord. Right?

  84. So God's temple, we looked at also the last time,

  85. that God's temple is not a place. Praise the

  86. Lord. God's temple is amongst the people. And

  87. Jesus came to fulfill that. Praise the Lord.

  88. God's temple is in man. And Jesus came to fulfill

  89. that promise. Amen. So let's go back to what

  90. we have been discussing as well. Matthew chapter

    Matthew 21 chapter mention

  91. 21. Matthew chapter 21, from verse 1 to verse

    Matthew 21 chapter mention

  92. 12 to 14. Matthew. Then Jesus went into the temple

  93. of God and drove out all those who bought and

  94. sold in the temple and overthrew the tables of

  95. the money exchangers and the seat of those who

  96. sold those. And he said to them, it is written,

  97. my house shall be called a house of prayer, but

  98. you have made it. A den of thieves. Praise the

  99. Lord. A den of thieves. So let's look at what

  100. he writes about this same place in the Gospel

  101. of Mark. Mark chapter 11. Mark chapter 11 from

Mark 11 chapter mention Mark 11 chapter mention

  102. verse 15 to 16. It's very fundamental what he

  103. writes. He said, so Jesus came to Jerusalem.

  104. So they came to Jerusalem. Then Jesus went into

  105. the temple and began to drive out those. who

  106. bought and sold in the temple, and overthrew

  107. the tables of the money changers and the seat

  108. of those who sold those. And he will not allow

  109. anyone to carry waste through the temples. Praise

  110. the Lord. Verse 17 now. He said, Then he taught

  111. them, saying to them, It is written, My house

  112. shall be called a house of prayer, for all nations,

  113. but you have made it a den of thieves. Verse

  114. 17, he said, then he taught them. Praise the

  115. Lord. So he was not just saying to them that,

  116. you know what, people are making a mess of this

  117. place. Praise the Lord. But then he taught them

  118. what the purpose of that place was. He said,

  119. he taught them saying, it is written, my house

  120. shall be called a house of prayer for all nations.

  121. We notice a slight difference here. In Matthew,

  122. he doesn't say, For all nations, right? He says,

  123. my house shall be a house of prayer, but you've

  124. made it a den of thieves. But Mark says what?

  125. For all nations. Praise the Lord. But you've

  126. made it a den of thieves, right? He taught them.

  127. Meaning that what he was doing was that he was

  128. teaching them. So his actions were explaining

  129. his teaching. Praise the Lord. His teaching.

  130. So he was, he drove them out, praise the Lord,

  131. right? But at the same time, he was teaching

  132. them something. His action also was a teaching

  133. that he was giving to them. So he was teaching

  134. this, right, from the Old Testament, where he

  135. says that my house shall be called a house of

  136. prayers for all nations, but you have made it

  137. a den of thieves. So his action was an illustration.

  138. Praise the Lord. His action was illustration

  139. to drive out the people and to overturn the tables,

  140. right? It was an illustration of his teaching.

  141. Praise the Lord. Verse 17, he says what? Is it

  142. not written, my house shall be called a house

  143. of prayers for all nations? So he didn't just

  144. say, oh no, this is the wrong thing to do. But

  145. he was also reminding them of the scriptures.

  146. Is it not written, my house shall be called a

  147. house of prayers for all nations? So we can say

  148. that Jesus was not, I mean, maybe the movies

  149. that we watched or some of the things that we

  150. thought, Jesus was teaching in as much as he

  151. was driving the people out. Praise the Lord.

  152. So we can say that he wasn't necessarily like

  153. coming to the people, very furious and doing

  154. a lot of things. Praise the Lord. But that he

  155. was teaching them by his action. He was teaching

  156. them. So we also look at what John also says.

  157. 2 John 2, verses 13 -16. Now the Passover of

  158. the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

  159. He founded the temple of those who sold oxen

  160. and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing

  161. business. And he said to those who sold doves,

  162. Take these things away. Do not make my father's

  163. house a house of merchandise. Praise the Lord.

  164. Do not make my father's house a house of merchandise.

  165. Verse 17. And the disciples remembered that it

  166. was written, zeal for your house has eaten me

  167. up. Praise the Lord. And verse 18 now. And the

  168. Jews answered and said to him, what sign do you

  169. show us since you do these things? Praise the

  170. Lord. Right? We're going to stay in this John

  171. for a while. What sign do you show us since you

  172. do these things? Right? He said, my house, right?

  173. Can we go back to verse 16? You see here now,

  174. there's also a bit of slight difference here.

  175. He says what? Take these things away. Do not

  176. make my father's house a house of merchandise.

  177. The other place we saw my house, my house, and

  178. this place again was saying, my father's house,

  179. a house of merchandise. And then the Jews asked

  180. him, in verse 18, what sign do you show us? Right?

  181. What sign do you show us since you do these things?

  182. Praise the Lord. Which means that he was doing

  183. something in line with the scriptures. Praise

  184. the Lord. What he was doing was in line with

  185. the scriptures. Right? Which means that Jesus

  186. was not just saying, why are you selling these

  187. things? Or why are you buying here? Praise the

  188. Lord. And we said the last time that there was

  189. nothing wrong with buying and selling in the

  190. temple. There was nothing wrong because it was

  191. permitted by Moses for them to be done. It was

  192. permitted in scriptures for them to buy and sell.

  193. So stopping them was a fulfillment of the scriptures.

  194. I'm going to explain that in a short while. Stopping

  195. them was a fulfillment. of the scriptures. Luke

    Luke 24:44

  196. chapter 24 verse 44. Luke chapter 24 verse 44.

    Luke 24:44

  197. Then he said to them, these are the words which

  198. I spoke to you while I was still with you, that

  199. all things must be fulfilled which were written

  200. in the law of Moses the prophet and in the Psalms

  201. consigning me. All things must be fulfilled.

  202. Praise the Lord. Must be brought to pass or must

  203. come to pass. Praise the Lord. It must be brought

  204. to pass. So we can ask, what is being fulfilled?

  205. Praise the Lord. What is then being fulfilled?

  206. What is the thing that is fulfilling? Right?

  207. Looking at the question in that John, in verse

  208. 18 of John chapter 2, he said, what sign do you

    John 2 chapter mention

  209. show us since you do these things? And then he

  210. said to them, my father's house shall not be

  211. a house of merchandise. Like I said, he was quoting

  212. the Old Testament. And then he says, what sign?

  213. Then he says to them in verse 19, verse 19. And

  214. Jesus said to them, destroy this temple. And

  215. in three days, I would raise it up. Praise the

  216. Lord. Destroy this temple. And in three days,

  217. I will raise it up. This same word that is used

  218. for resurrection, right? So what is he talking

  219. about? What does he mean? Destroy this temple.

  220. It cost them 46, 47, 46 years to build the temple.

  221. The Jews were wondering. It cost us 46 years

  222. to build this temple, and you say destroy it,

  223. and he will build it up in three days. What is

  224. he talking about? Praise the Lord. Now, verse

  225. 21 and 22, he said, but he was speaking of the

  226. temple of his body. Praise the Lord. Therefore,

  227. when he had risen from the dead, his disciples

  228. remembered that he had said to them, and they

  229. believed the Scriptures and the word which Jesus

  230. had said. Praise the Lord. So when he had risen

  231. from the dead, his disciples remembered that

  232. he had said this to them, and they believed the

  233. Scriptures and the word which Jesus spoke to

  234. them. They believed what? The Scriptures. So

  235. which Scripture is Jesus fulfilling? Which Scriptures

  236. is Jesus fulfilling? What Scriptures is Jesus

  237. fulfilling? Praise the Lord. Or what scriptures

  238. is he teaching them? Praise the Lord. No, like

  239. I said, sometimes the event of how Jesus drove

  240. out the money exchangers, the way it is portrayed

  241. in movies, is that Jesus came in, he was very

  242. angry, he chased people away, he made codes and

  243. beat people out of the temple. Praise the Lord.

  244. He drove things out of the temple and the people

  245. that were there. But he was not... beating the

  246. people praise the lord he he stopped what they

  247. were doing but he was not beating the people

  248. praise the lord he didn't go there and he's beating

  249. people praise the lord he stopped the activity

  250. that was going on in those places right he didn't

  251. touch the people praise the lord what he was

  252. teaching them and doing things he was teaching

  253. them and doing things look look chapter Then

  254. he went to the temple and began to drive out

  255. those who bought and sold in it, saying to them,

  256. It is written, My house is a house of prayer,

  257. but you have made it a den of thieves. Verse

  258. 47 now. And then he was teaching daily in the

  259. temple. But the chief priests and the scribes

  260. and the leaders of the people sought to destroy

  261. him. Right? So what he was doing was an illustration

  262. of his teaching. Praise the Lord. It was an illustration

  263. of his teaching to drive out the people. Let's

  264. look at this word, merchandise. Right? Let's

  265. look at the word. The people were selling and

  266. buying, right? Like I said, why did they sell

  267. and buy in the temple? So, like I said, it was

  268. a permission that Moses gave them for those who

  269. were coming from afar. Imagine coming from a

  270. very far place, carrying oxen and sheep to come

  271. and sacrifice. They didn't have the luxury that

  272. we have now of driving cars or... you know, cargos,

  273. things like this, right? So they needed to carry

  274. those things either by their hands or in horses.

  275. And so it was very difficult for them to get

  276. to those places. So there's a permission for

  277. Moses for them to come and buy the things there.

  278. Praise the Lord. They should just come, give

  279. money and take the things they needed for sacrifice

  280. and sacrifice in the temple. So he told them

  281. to bring money, right? When they get to the temple,

  282. They should use those money to buy the item that

  283. they are using for sacrifice. So the place that

  284. was used for these things of buying and selling

  285. was looked at or regarded as the Gentile court.

  286. Praise the Lord. It is known as the Gentile court.

  287. So they are supposed to bring their money and

  288. exchange it for the sacrifice or the animals

  289. they are going to buy and they are going to come.

  290. And they're going to use them for those sacrifices.

  291. So two things we see going on around them. One,

  292. the use of sacrifice, right? Which is the reason

  293. for the money that they are coming with, right?

  294. And then secondly, it happened at the Gentile

  295. court. So the Jews and the non -Jews were to

  296. come there and worship in the temple. Praise

  297. the Lord. So why did he say, You have turned

  298. his father's house to a house of merchandise.

  299. Praise the Lord. If there was permission for

  300. them to bring their money, buy the animals that

  301. they need for sacrifice and use them for sacrifice.

  302. It's a place of worship. The animals were not,

  303. they didn't come to buy animals and take it to

  304. their houses. Praise the Lord. They brought the

  305. animals to sacrifice. It's a place of worship

  306. that they come. So why did he say merchandise?

  307. Right? You've made a house of merchandise. Praise

  308. the Lord. Zechariah chapter 14, verse 20. Zechariah

    Zechariah 14:20 Zechariah 14:20

  309. chapter 14, verse 20. In that day, right, talking

  310. about the future, right, eschatology, something

  311. to happen, something that is going to happen

  312. in the future. Holiness to the Lord shall be

  313. engraved on the bells of the house. And the pots

  314. in the house of the Lord shall be like the bowls

  315. before the altar. And then, right in verse 21

  316. now. Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judea

  317. shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts. Everyone

  318. who sacrifices shall come and take them and cook

  319. in them. In that day they shall no longer be

  320. Canaanites in the house of the Lord. Sorry, in

  321. the house of the Lord of hosts. Praise the Lord.

  322. Let me read that again. Every pot in Jerusalem

  323. and Judea shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts.

  324. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them

  325. and cook in them. In that day, they shall no

  326. longer be canonized in the house of the Lord

  327. of hosts. Praise the Lord. So holiness, right,

  328. will not just be in the temple. Hallelujah. Holiness.

  329. will not just be in the temple, right? But will

  330. be in every house. Praise the Lord. Will be in

  331. every home. So holiness, as we know, is what

  332. God does. Is what God does. And where God dwells.

  333. So holiness will not just be in the temple, it

  334. will be in every home. Meaning that God is making

  335. available the temple everywhere. Praise the Lord.

  336. Meaning that God is making the temple everywhere.

  337. And then in, so he's saying that he shall no

  338. longer just be in the temple, but in every home,

  339. right? He said in that day, there shall no longer

  340. be a Canaanite in the house of the Lord, right?

  341. That word Canaanite is a word Canani in the Greek.

  342. That word Cananite is a word Canani, K -E -N

  343. -A -N -I. K -E -N -A -N -I. Right? So what does

  344. the word mean? Right? It is used for trade or

  345. traders. Praise the Lord. It is used for trade

  346. or traders. Right? Traders, they sell instruments

  347. of offering. Remember, the traders, they're the

  348. people selling the instrument of worship or instrument

  349. of offering in the temples. So we see two things

  350. there. That one, there will no longer be need,

  351. right, for animal sacrifice or animal sacrifice,

  352. right? But then, not just that, but everybody

  353. will be qualified. So let's look at more, some

  354. of the scriptures in this same word for Canaanites.

  355. Proverbs chapter 31, verse 24. To make linen

    Proverbs 31:24

  356. garments and sell them. and supplies such for

  357. the merchants. Praise the Lord. For the merchants.

  358. So is that word for merchants there? Praise the

  359. Lord. Is that word for merchants? Kenani, right?

  360. Isaiah chapter 23, verse 8. Who has taken counsel

    Isaiah 23:8

  361. against Ty, the crowning city, whose merchants

  362. are princes, whose traders are the honorable

  363. of the earth? Praise the Lord. It's that word

  364. that is used for merchants there, those who come

  365. to sell. So let's look at those things we've

  366. been reading before. He says what? My father's

  367. house, you have made it a house of kenani, right?

  368. To buy and to sell. Praise the Lord. He says

  369. what? You have made my father's house a house

  370. of buying and selling. Praise the Lord. It's

  371. a house of merchandise, right? You've made my

  372. father's house a house of buying and selling.

  373. Praise the Lord. You've made my father's house

  374. a house of buying and selling. But that is not

  375. the way it's supposed to be. But Moses what?

  376. Allowed it so that you can buy and sell for worship.

  377. Right? But then he says it shall be a house of

  378. prayer. For what? for all nations. What it's

  379. supposed to be is what? A house of prayer for

  380. all nations. He said, but you have made it a

  381. den of thieves. You have made it a den of thieves.

  382. A house of prayers for all nations. Praise the

  383. Lord. So, when we read this whole Synoptic Gospels

  384. account, the book of Matthew 21, Luke 11, Mark

  385. 11, Luke 19, and John chapter 2. So the things

    John 2 chapter mention

  386. we see first, or the things that we see Jesus

  387. doing, is that Jesus is acting according to prophecy.

  388. Praise the Lord. So when he's coming into the

  389. temple, the thing he's doing, it is doing according

  390. to the things that are said, right? It's acting

  391. according to prophecy, right? Because in Zechariah,

  392. it says, in that day, praise the Lord, in that

  393. day, He said, what Mark says, a house of prayer

  394. for all nations, right? So we can see that Jesus

  395. was teaching from the text, right? And demonstrating

  396. it in his illustration of driving the people

  397. out. Isaiah chapter 56, verse 7. Isaiah 56, verse

    Isaiah 56:7 Isaiah 56:7

  398. 7. Even them I will bring to my holy mountain

  399. and make them joyful. in my house of prayer.

  400. Their burnt offering and their sacrifice will

  401. be accepted at my altar. For my house shall be

  402. called a house of prayers for all nations. So

  403. Jesus was acting out a prophecy. Praise the Lord.

  404. He was acting out a prophecy. Let's look at verse

  405. 4 of that verse. It says, For thus says the Lord

  406. to the eunuch who keeps my sabbath, who chose

  407. what pleases me, and hold fast my covenant. Verse

  408. 5. Even then I will give my house and within

  409. my walls a place and a name better than that

  410. of the sons and daughters. I will give them an

  411. everlasting name that shall not be cut off. Praise

  412. the Lord. Verse 6 to 8 now. It says, Also, the

  413. sons of the foreigners who join themselves to

  414. the Lord to serve him, to love the name of the

  415. Lord, to be his servants, everyone who keeps

  416. from defiling the Sabbath and who holds fast

  417. my covenant, even them I will bring to my holy

  418. mountain and make them joyful in my house of

  419. prayer. Their bond offering and their sacrifice

  420. will be accepted on my altar, for my house shall

  421. be called the house of prayers for all nations.

  422. Verse 8. The Lord God who gathers the outcasts

  423. of Israel says, Yet I will gather him other beside

  424. those who are gathered to him. Praise the Lord.

  425. This means that he's not talking about just the

  426. Jews. Praise the Lord. It is not just for the

  427. Jews. He says those who are not the Jews are

  428. also part of it. Praise the Lord. So in God's

  429. plan, those who are not the Jews too are part

  430. of it. Praise the Lord. So if you read Zechariah

    Zechariah 14 chapter mention

  431. chapter 14, he talks about the house of prayers

  432. for all nations. So he's saying that all nations

  433. shall come to a place. or that he will go to

  434. all nations. So from everything I've been saying,

  435. does it mean that God is going to, that all nations

  436. is going to come to a place, right? Just as we

  437. see in the temple, as what happens around the

  438. temple, was that God is going to all nations.

  439. Praise the Lord. So you can read Zechariah chapter

    Zechariah 14 chapter mention

  440. 14, Isaiah chapter 56, right? So remember, we

    Isaiah 56 chapter mention

  441. said in that Zechariah, it says what? That the

  442. house or his temple is going to be in every house.

  443. Praise the Lord. It's going to be in every home,

  444. right? He says it's for all nations. Everybody

  445. is welcome. So Jesus is standing in the temple

  446. and he's fulfilling the scriptures. Praise the

  447. Lord. He's standing in the temple and he's fulfilling

  448. the scriptures, right? He's fulfilling the scriptures.

  449. That what? This house is a house of prayer for

  450. all nations. But he says what? You have made

  451. it a den of thieves. Some other scriptures, as

  452. we see, we say a den of robbers. Praise the Lord.

  453. Now, I also mentioned this the last time. Is

  454. he calling them armed robbers? Praise the Lord.

  455. Is he calling them armed robbers? When he says

  456. a den of thieves, is he calling them armed robbers?

  457. No. He's saying that what they are doing was

  458. permitted by the law, but it's not the way it's

  459. supposed to be. It should not be like that. He

  460. says what? What they were doing was permitted

  461. by the law, so what was Jesus saying? What does

  462. he imply by saying the prophet, sorry, we saw

  463. in Zechariah that talks about a time or a day

  464. is coming. So he's saying that there will no

  465. longer be need for offerings here. Praise the

  466. Lord. There will no longer be need for offering

  467. here. A time will come. God will be in every

  468. home. Praise the Lord. So what he's saying is

  469. that there will no longer be need for offering

  470. here. A time is coming. God will be in every

  471. home. God will come. A time will come where there

  472. will no longer be a need for this house anymore.

  473. So that means the use of sacrifice in the temple

  474. and the physical house was temporary. Praise

  475. the Lord. The use of animal sacrifice or sacrifice

  476. in the temple and the physical house was temporary.

  477. So he's saying a house of prayer for all nations,

  478. but you've made it a den of merchandise. Praise

  479. the Lord. Let's read Zechariah chapter 14, verse

    Zechariah 14:20–21

  480. 20 to 21. In that day, holiness... to the Lord

  481. shall be engraved on the bells of their houses.

  482. The pots in the Lord's house shall be like the

  483. bells before the altar. Yes, every pot in Jerusalem

  484. and Judea shall be holiness to the Lord of hosts.

  485. Everyone who sacrifices shall come and take them

  486. and cook in them. In that day they shall no longer

  487. be the Canaanites in the house of the Lord of

  488. hosts. Praise the Lord. Jeremiah chapter 7 verse

    Jeremiah 7:11

  489. 11. Has this house, which is called by my name,

  490. become a den of thieves in your eyes? Behold,

  491. even I have seen it, says the Lord. The den of

  492. thieves. Praise the Lord. Some other scriptures

  493. would use the word robbers. It's the word, I

  494. also said it the last time, parit. P -A -R -I

  495. -T -S P -A -R -I -T -S It's used for violence,

  496. right? Something that is illegal, right? For

  497. illegality, right? It's used for violence, illegality.

  498. It's the word for, it's also used for the word

  499. usurper, right? Like a supplanter. Remember Jacob,

  500. right? It's also the word for supplanter, usurper,

  501. right? So it's someone who takes power or a position,

  502. a title illegally or by force. Praise the Lord.

  503. Someone that, somebody that ought not to be there.

  504. Praise the Lord. So he says what? That you have

  505. turned his house or his house has become a den

  506. of thieves. Right? To bring illegality or violence

  507. or somebody that, something that ought not to

  508. be there. So the Hebrew word used for Robbers

  509. is also the word like insurrection, right? The

  510. shopper, like I said. Zechariah chapter 7, verse

  511. 22. Sorry, Ezekiel. Ezekiel 7, verse 22. He said,

    Ezekiel 7:22

  512. I will turn my face from them, and they will

  513. defy my secret place, for robbers shall enter

  514. it and defile it. So it's the same word there.

  515. robbers right chapter 18 verse 10 chapter 18

  516. verse 10 if he begot a son who is a robber or

  517. a shader of blood what does any of this why does

  518. who does any of these things right it's also

  519. that same word there for robber so jesus was

  520. referring to a den of robbers for example right

  521. john chapter john chapter 10 from verse 7 to

    John 10 chapter mention

  522. 8 And Jesus said to them, again, most assuredly

  523. I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All

  524. who come before me are thieves and robbers, but

  525. the sheep did not hear them. Praise the Lord.

  526. So he's using that word robbers there, right?

  527. Like I said, was he referring to them carrying

  528. guns? No, it means that they were not supposed

  529. to be there. Praise the Lord. So he's saying

  530. that these people that come to the ship are not

  531. supposed to be there. He's not talking about

  532. that the people came bearing guns and things

  533. like that. So my house shall be called a house

  534. of prayer, right? For all nations, he said, for

  535. everyone. So you are making it, he's saying that,

  536. let me say this, just listen carefully now. As

  537. we've been talking about what these robbers mean

  538. or why he refers to them as robbers. So he's

  539. saying, my father's house shall be called a house

  540. of prayers for who? For everyone, for all nations.

  541. He said, but you are making it a place of come

  542. and buy and sacrifice. Praise the Lord. You are

  543. making it a place of come and buy and sacrifice.

  544. You're saying the Gentile world should bring

  545. their money. You will give them the element of

  546. sacrifice. Right? And he said, they will offer

  547. it. It has become... a den of what not, sorry,

  548. it has become a den of what ought not to be there.

  549. So what is the thief there? What is he saying

  550. thief there? Right? So the thief there, remember

  551. we said what Jesus came to fulfill and how is

  552. the nation going to be a house of prayer for

  553. all nations, right? So, and we read this place,

  554. let's go back. to verse 7. And Jesus said to

  555. them, Most certainly I say to you, I am the door

  556. of the sheep. All who come before me are thieves

  557. and robbers, but his sheep did not hear them.

  558. So the thieves there that he's using is what

  559. they use of what? Physical sacrifice. It ought

  560. not to be there. That is not what makes this

  561. place or that is not what will make this place

  562. become a house of prayer for all nations. Praise

  563. the Lord. That is not what will make it a house

  564. of prayers for all nations. Let me read that

  565. again. So my father's house is a house of prayers

  566. for all nations. But you are making it what?

  567. A place, a house of merchandise. Remember what

  568. we said what merchandise is, right? Remember

  569. the word we use for merchandise, right? He's

  570. saying what? You've made it what? A place of

  571. come and by. or come and a place of come and

  572. bring sacrifice or buy or the gentile will come

  573. to bring their money and they will give them

  574. element that is of sacrifice right and they will

  575. offer it it has become a den of what not ought

  576. to be there praise the lord so what is the thief

  577. there the thief there is the use of physical

  578. sacrifice the use of physical sacrifice which

  579. Remember, we said in that Zechariah, they said

  580. what? In that day, right? On that day. So, the

  581. use of physical sacrifice will be anointed in

  582. that day. Praise the Lord. The sacrifice of Jesus

  583. who do what will anoint the use of physical sacrifice.

  584. Praise the Lord. Remember, we said he's coming

  585. to do what? To fulfill the scriptures. And he

  586. was teaching as well. So, it is not referring

  587. to the people as thieves. It is referring to

  588. what they were doing. Praise the Lord. It was

  589. referring to what? To what they were using. The

  590. use of physical elements in worship. Jesus is

  591. saying it is insurrection. It is a robbery. He

  592. said, all that come before me, he said, I'm the

  593. life of the sheep. I am the sacrifice. Praise

  594. the Lord. So Jesus is the sacrifice. It is not

  595. the animal sacrifice. Praise the Lord. Jesus

  596. is the sacrifice. So Jesus is the sacrifice.

  597. So he refers to the sacrifice before him as a

  598. den of thieves. So the sacrifice that they bring

  599. or they bring to offer has become what? A den

  600. of thieves. It is not a thing that saves men.

  601. Praise the Lord. So the thing that Jesus was

  602. doing, Jesus is saying that what? God's holiness

  603. is for everyone, right? So there will not be

  604. a need for you to bring what? Physical sacrifice.

  605. There will no longer be need for anyone to bring

  606. what? Physical sacrifice. There will no need

  607. for anybody to pay money and buy physical sacrifice

  608. in this altar. Right? And like I said from the

  609. beginning, that what? That holiness is a gift

  610. of God. Holiness is a gift of God. So Jesus is

  611. not upset or he's not angry at the people. He's

  612. saying that, The day has come. Praise the Lord.

  613. So what he was doing in that place, he's saying

  614. that that day has arrived. Praise the Lord. That

  615. day has arrived. The day has come for fulfillment

  616. of the word of the prophecy of the prophets.

  617. The day has come for the fulfillment of the word

  618. of the prophets. What he was saying, he was teaching.

  619. That's what he was saying. He was teaching the

  620. scriptures. He was teaching. through the scriptures.

  621. And then his disciples will say, because the

  622. zeal of thy house has eaten him up. So Jesus,

  623. the word zeal there is a word quenal, right?

  624. So Jesus is teaching and illustrating his teaching

  625. by the things that he's doing. So we said that

  626. what? The use of those practices were temporary.

  627. We know this, right? From all our teaching. The

  628. new covenant was before the old one. So the new

  629. covenant is God's promise, is God's word, is

  630. what God wants, is God's perfect will. The old

  631. one is what was allowed because of the hardness

  632. of their hearts. But in the beginning, it was

  633. not so. Praise the Lord. Let me read again. So

  634. Jesus was illustrating, was teaching and illustrating

  635. his teaching by the things he was doing. Right?

  636. And as we have been taught, that the Old Testament

  637. practice was temporary. Praise the Lord. So the

  638. new covenant was before the old, the practice

  639. of it, of the Old Testament or the old covenant.

  640. The new covenant is God's promise, is God's word,

  641. is what God wants, is His perfect will. The old

  642. is what is allowed because of the hardness of

  643. their hearts. But in the beginning, it was not

  644. so. So what is the new covenant? So we said that

  645. the use of which we have been taught, we have

  646. been taught this everything. The use of the temple,

  647. right? The use of the animal sacrifice was not

  648. started by God. It was something that was in

  649. their culture already. Praise the Lord. It was

  650. something that was in their culture already.

  651. So God uses as an illustration to remind them,

  652. right? Again, that the new covenant is onward

  653. and is promised. of his own word and his promise.

  654. So God is the new covenant. Praise the Lord.

  655. God is the new covenant. So in that Zechariah,

  656. it says what? It shall be on that day, he said,

  657. holiness upon the Lord in every house, in every

  658. home, right? And we said that holiness is what

  659. God will do or what God has done or is doing,

  660. right? So holiness is not your conduct. Right?

  661. Your conduct is inspired by God's holiness. Praise

  662. the Lord. Holiness is what God does. Genesis

    Genesis 2:1–3

  663. chapter 2, verses 1 to 3. So holiness that was

  664. used there is the word kwadash. Genesis chapter

    Genesis 2:1–3

  665. 2, verses 1 to 3. That was the heaven and the

  666. earth and all the host of them were finished.

  667. And at the seventh day, God ended his... his

  668. work which he has done, and he rested on the

  669. seventh day from all his work which he had done.

  670. Verse 3. And God blessed the seventh day and

  671. sanctified it, because it is the day he rested

  672. from all his work which he had created and made.

  673. That word sanctified is word holy there. Right?

  674. So, I'm going to be a little, let me just skip

  675. some parts. So, in the new covenant, God's promise,

  676. God's holiness is what he does. Right? God's

  677. holiness is by His own Spirit. The Old Testament

  678. practices will come and pass. It will no longer

  679. be a house of thieves or a house of insurrection,

  680. but it should be a house of prayers for all nations.

  681. There will not be need to come and buy and sell

  682. in this place. There will not be need for buying

  683. sacrifice. It is done by the Spirit of God. Praise

  684. the Lord. It is done by the Spirit of God. So

  685. what we see in Jeremiah, Isaiah, and Zechariah

  686. are prophecies of the Scripture. So God's holiness

  687. is what He does. If God saves you, that action

  688. is holy, right? That action is holy, and you

  689. are holy because God saves you. If God calls

  690. you, that action is holy. Therefore, you are

  691. holy. Holiness is not what you do, though. You'll

  692. be affected or you will reflect the holiness

  693. of God. Holiness is what God does, right? Because

  694. of what he has done in you, you become holy.

  695. So Jesus is saying that the temple that is God's

  696. holiness, we can say God's salvation, right?

  697. God's deliverance is for everybody. In that day,

  698. there will no longer be need for sacrifice. You

  699. no longer need to come here. That is to the temple

  700. anymore. Right? Because God will come to wherever

  701. you are, to every home. Praise the Lord. God

  702. will go in towards every home, just like the

  703. same way he went to Egypt to bring the people

  704. out. He's going to every home in that day. He's

  705. going to every home in that day. He will come

  706. where you are and he will save you and you are

  707. holy. So when he says that, or when he sends

  708. us out to go and preach the gospel, Who is going

  709. to reach men? When we go out to preach the gospel,

  710. who is going to reach men? It is God that is

  711. going to reach men. Praise the Lord. Because

  712. what? You are holy and you are his. So it is

  713. an outreach of holiness. So God wants to call

  714. people to himself to make them sons and daughters.

  715. That means that when we preach the gospel, we

  716. are offering the people to be God's residents.

  717. Praise the Lord. Praise the Lord. We're offering

  718. them that they should be what? God's residents.

  719. God's residents. I don't know if I have time.

  720. There's something I wanted to show us about the

  721. fig tree. I don't think I will have the time

  722. to do that. But I think let's do that and maybe

  723. we can stop there. Luke chapter 24 verse 44.

    Luke 24:44

  724. So when he was on his way to the temple, right?

  725. Two things happened on the way, right? Mark recorded

  726. it, Matthew, but we didn't have that in John,

  727. right? So Luke chapter 24, and he said to them,

    Luke 24 chapter mention

  728. these are the words which I speak to you while

  729. I was still with you, that all things must be

  730. fulfilled which were written in the law of Moses

  731. and in the prophet and in the Psalms concerning

  732. me. Mark chapter 11, from verse 12 to 14. So

    Mark 11 chapter mention

  733. Jesus saw a fig tree. Right? We know the story

  734. of the fig tree. Right? So when they came, they

  735. said, verse 12. Mark chapter 11, verse 12 to

    Mark 11:12–14

  736. 14. This is still the same story of the temple,

  737. of him going to the temple. So, now the next

  738. day when they had come from Bethlehem, he was

  739. hungry and seeing from afar a fig tree having

  740. leaves, he went to see if perhaps He will find

  741. something on it. When he came to it, he found

  742. nothing but leaves, for it was not the season

  743. for figs. Verse 14. In response, Jesus said to

  744. it, Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.

  745. And his disciples heard it. Praise the Lord.

  746. Now, let's look at the sequence. Like I said,

  747. this is the same thing that was leading to the

  748. temple. So, he moves to the fig trees. He goes

  749. to the temple. He speaks in the temple. And then

  750. he says that the temple, the things happening

  751. there are odd not to be happening there. The

  752. temple is for all nations, right? It's for all

  753. nations, right? So God's word is not in a physical

  754. place, it's in the people, right? Verse 19 to

  755. 21. Verse 19 to 21 of Mark 11. When the evening

  756. had come, they went out of the city. And in the

  757. morning, as they passed by, they saw the fig

  758. tree dried up from its roots. And Peter remembered

  759. and said to him, Rabbi, look, the fig tree which

  760. you caused has withered away. And then verse

  761. 22 now. And Jesus answered and said, have faith

  762. in God. Right? Have faith in God. For surely

  763. I say to you, whoever say to this mountain, be

  764. removed and be cast into the sea. and there's

  765. no doubt in his heart, but believes that, believe

  766. these things which he says, it will be done,

  767. and he will have whatever he says. Praise the

  768. Lord. Now, let's pay attention to this thing.

  769. He says what? He says, most assuredly I say to

  770. you, whoever says to this mountain, what did

  771. Peter say to him? Peter was talking about the

  772. fig tree, right? He was talking about the fig

  773. tree. Why don't you just say to him, whoever

  774. says to this fig tree, Right? And they dried

  775. up from the root. And it will be dried up. He

  776. says what? Whoever says to this mountain, first

  777. he said to him, have faith in God. Praise the

  778. Lord. Have faith in God. He reminded them of

  779. the scriptures, right? That is called the faithfulness

  780. of God. Have faith in God. Have faith in God.

  781. Sorry. Have faith in God, have faith in the scriptures,

  782. which means that yet again, Jesus opened them

  783. again to the scriptures, right? Have faith in

  784. God, he's saying to them to have faith in the

  785. things that God has said. Verse 23. So we said

  786. that he was talking about, he said, who's ever

  787. said to this mountain, right? But it was Feek

  788. 3 that they were talking about. Praise the Lord.

  789. It was Feek 3 that they were talking about. So

  790. how comes the mountain comes here? Praise the

  791. Lord. So they're just listening carefully and

  792. see. So remember what this was about. Zechariah

    Zechariah 6 chapter mention

  793. chapter 6 verse... Zechariah chapter 4 verse

    Zechariah 4:6

  794. 6. They were building the temple, right? Or they

  795. were going to build the temple. And it says,

  796. Zechariah was going to build the temple and he

  797. said, and he answered and said to me, this is

  798. the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel, not by might,

  799. not by power, but by my spirit. says the Lord

  800. of hosts. Do you remember what they were going

  801. to build? They were going to build what? The

  802. house of the Lord. Right? And he says what? Not

  803. by might, not by power, but by my spirit, says

  804. the Lord. Now, verse 7. He said, Who are you,

  805. O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel, you shall

  806. become a plain, and he shall bring forth the

  807. capstone with the shout of grace. Grace to it.

  808. Verse 9. The hand of Zerubbabel hath laid the

  809. foundation of this temple. His hand also shall

  810. finish it. Then you shall know that the Lord

  811. of hosts has sent me. Praise the Lord. So Jesus

  812. is referring to Zechariah, that God will build

  813. a temple. Praise the Lord. So when Jesus said

  814. to them, when he was quoting this place, he's

  815. saying to them that what? God is going to build

  816. a temple. They were talking about the fig tree.

  817. He was talking about what? That God is going

  818. to build a temple. Who says to this mountain,

  819. that whoever says to this mountain, move them

  820. and be cast into the sea, right? It will be moved.

  821. Praise the Lord. So, the mountain there, let

  822. me start by saying, That there are a lot of times

  823. in the scriptures where the Israelites or the

  824. children of Israel were looked at or were regarded

  825. as fig trees. Praise the Lord. They were regarded

  826. as fig trees. Let's see some places. But let

  827. me just read this before we look at that. So

  828. the Old Testament and its practice, right, is

  829. what he calls the mountain. Praise the Lord.

  830. So be moved and be cast into the sea, right?

  831. Sea refers to what happens in Exodus. and does

  832. not doubt in his heart, but believe in the things

  833. which he says, it will be done. He would have

  834. whatever he says, right? And then, see why he

  835. said that in the next verse, in chapter 20, in

  836. verse 25, where in Mark 11, go back to Mark 11,

  837. 25. He says what? 25. And he says, whenever you

  838. stand praying, and you have anything, and you

  839. have anything against anyone, forgive him that

  840. my Father in heaven may also forgive your trespass.

  841. Right? He says what? That forgiveness, that forgiveness

  842. for the people who God has forgiven. Praise the

  843. Lord. So we see what is going on. So let's look

  844. at the fifth three now. And then let's look at

  845. verse 22. And he says what? You should have faith

  846. in God. Right? That is have faith. in the scriptures.

  847. Hosea chapter 9 verse 10. Let's look at why the

    Hosea 9:10

  848. Israelites were regarded as fig trees. Hosea

    Hosea 9:10

  849. 9 verse 10. He said, I found Israel like grapes

  850. in the wilderness. I saw your fathers as a fresh

  851. fruit on the fig tree that is in its first season.

  852. Praise the Lord. He says, Lord, I found Israel

  853. like grapes in the wilderness and I saw your

  854. fathers as fresh fruits on the fig in its first

  855. season. So the nation of Israel were called fig

  856. trees, right? Jeremiah chapter 24, if you study

    Jeremiah 24 chapter mention

  857. it, you also find out, right, more about it.

  858. So they were looked at as bad figs, right? They

  859. were regarded as bad figs. If you read the whole

  860. of Jeremiah, Jeremiah 8, if you read Jeremiah

  861. 24, you see that. Jeremiah 8, 13. Jeremiah 8,

  862. 13. And I shall... And I will surely consume

  863. them, says the Lord of hosts. No grape shall

  864. be on the vine, no fig on the fig tree. Their

  865. leaves shall fade, and the things I have given

  866. them shall pass away from them. Micah 4 .4 Micah

  867. 4 .4 But everyone shall sit under his vine and

  868. under his fig tree, and no one shall make them

  869. afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has

  870. spoken it. Verse 5 and 6. For the people walk

  871. each in the name of his God, but will walk in

  872. the name of the Lord our God forever and ever.

  873. Verse 6. In that day, says the Lord, I will assemble

  874. the lame, and I will gather the outcasts and

  875. those whom I have afflicted. Which means that

  876. when Israel bears no fruit, The day will come,

  877. right, when he will bring all the nations together.

  878. So the fruitfulness of the fig tree is a sign

  879. that every nation, right, is going to come together.

  880. Praise the Lord. The fruitfulness of the fig

  881. tree is a sign that every nation is coming together.

  882. Jeremiah chapter 30 from verse 31 to 32. Jeremiah

    Jeremiah 30 chapter mention

  883. chapter 30 verse 31 verse 31. Jeremiah chapter

    Jeremiah 31:31

  884. 31 verse 31 verse 31. Behold, the day is coming,

  885. says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant

  886. with the house of Israel and with the house of

  887. Judah. Verse 32. Not according to the covenant

  888. that I made with their fathers. in the day that

  889. I took them by hand to lead them out of the land

  890. of Egypt, by covenant which they broke. Although

  891. I was a husband to them, says the Lord, praise

  892. the Lord, the new covenant. So he would dwell

  893. with them and walk among them. Praise the Lord.

  894. So let's follow the sequence of what we said

  895. again. So Jesus was what? He was going to the

  896. temple. He sees the fig tree, right? That means

  897. that Israel has failed in his walk. Which walk?

  898. to bring all nations to God. Israel is to bring

  899. all nations to God, but he failed in that work.

  900. So he's saying that what? The fifth three, no

  901. man shall eat of it forever. No man will eat

  902. of this disobedient anymore. No man will take

  903. of it anymore. He goes to the temple and he does

  904. the same thing. It is not going to be, this is

  905. not going to happen anymore in this place. It

  906. will not be a house of merchandise anymore. It

  907. will be a house of prayer for all nations. Then

  908. he comes back and then he sees the fig tree has

  909. died in its root. And he says, more assuredly,

  910. I say to you, I say to you, whosoever says to

  911. this mountain, be removed and be cast into the

  912. sea and does not doubt in his heart, but believe

  913. that these things he says will be done. He will

  914. have whatever he says. Verse 24. Then I say to

  915. you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that

  916. you receive it. and you would have it. Praise

  917. the Lord. So, do not forget what we're saying,

  918. that the house of prayers is a house of prayers

  919. for all nations. So when, he again talks about

  920. prayers afterwards. So he says, when you are

  921. standing to pray in this house, forgive, which

  922. means that it is a conversation about the temple.

  923. God's house will be for all nations. Praise the

  924. Lord. So, I'm going to finish up here now. So,

  925. So whether it's the fig tree or the merchants

  926. or the merchandise, the things that he did in

  927. the temple, they were all talking about, or they

  928. were all, he was all talking about what? God's

  929. new covenant. The Jews and the Gentiles, right?

  930. Who have received God's holiness. So what Jesus

  931. was doing, right? Is what? Making God's holiness

  932. available to all, whosoever, right? Therefore

  933. means that whether you're a Jew or Gentile, right?

  934. And also, by sending them out, by sending them

  935. out in what we read in Matthew 28, by sending

  936. them out to all nations, like God sent Israel,

  937. He was telling them that His house will no longer

  938. be a place. By sending us out today to all nations

  939. is that we are having an outreach of holiness.

  940. God wants to leave. Here. God wants to live there.

  941. Praise the Lord. That's what it means. Right?

  942. God wants to live here. God wants to live there.

  943. Praise the Lord. Jesus has become a qualifier

  944. and qualification for all men. It means that

  945. the gospel, right, prequalifies every hearer.

  946. Praise the Lord. The gospel prequalifies every

  947. hearer. A man only disqualifies himself by unbelief.

  948. Praise the Lord. Of the gospel. Right? So the

  949. gospel, even though it's a post -resurrection

  950. event, it's not a post -resurrection message.

  951. Pastor Carson taught us this the last time we

  952. met. So who does, who is qualifying, right? Or

  953. who is qualified for God's house? Everyone. Who

  954. is qualified for God's house? Everybody. Or where

  955. is qualified for God's house? Everywhere. Who

  956. is qualified for God's spirit? Right? Everyone

  957. is qualified. for God's Spirit. Praise the Lord.

  958. So when you see somebody who is a drunkard, when

  959. you see somebody who does not know the Lord,

  960. that is a potential house of the Lord. Praise

  961. the Lord. When you see somebody who is doing

  962. a lot of things, who is in unbelief, praise the

  963. Lord. That is a potential of God's house. That

  964. is a potential God's house. Praise the Lord.

  965. So you don't say, ah, this person is bad, this

  966. person is doing this. That is a potential. Or

  967. that is a potential God's house that you have

  968. there. Praise the Lord. Hallelujah. So, you are

  969. in God's house already. You are God's dwelling

  970. place already. You are already the house of His

  971. work. The Spirit of God is already in you and

  972. for you. Right? He wants you, or He wants to

  973. be amongst all men. Hallelujah. He wants to be

  974. amongst all men. It is no longer a place. It

  975. is a people. It's no longer a kind of people,

  976. but all people, every nation, including tribes,

  977. tongues, cultures, behavior, sociology, everyone,

  978. right, has room for God. God has room for everyone.

  979. Praise the Lord. Let's just rise up on our feet

  980. and just pray. We appreciate you being here today.
