  1. Well, good morning. It is a privilege for me to be able to open the Word of God with you this morning.

  2. And we will read the passage out of chapter 13 in just a minute, but to tie it to what we talked about last week,

  3. and to tie it to where we are in the Gospel, let me just say a couple of things.

  4. One is in early part of chapter 13, it says this,

  5. Jesus knew that His hour had come.

  6. You know, throughout the Gospel, He says,

  7. My hour has not come. My hour has not come.

  8. And now He says here in chapter 13, My hour has come.

  9. What hour is He referring to?

  10. It's the hour that He would give up His life, where He would be willing to go to the cross.

  11. He'd be willing to die on behalf of His people.

  12. That's the hour He's referring to.

  13. Where we are in the Gospel of John is we're in chapter 13.

  14. We're looking at the very day that He would be arrested.

  15. This evening, chapter 13, going forward, He will be arrested.

  16. He will be tried. He will be convicted.

  17. He will be elevated on the cross the next day.

  18. So we're very close to the last day of Christ's earthly life.

  19. And I would just remind us of a couple of things He said in the early part of chapter 13

  20. that's really going to speak to what we're going to read this morning,

  21. starting in verse 18, where we're going to read.

  22. But He says this in verse 2.

  23. He said,

  24. This morning we're going to read about a great betrayal.

  25. And this great betrayal is at the hands of Judas Iscariot.

  26. And we see here that Christ is telling us before it happens that this is going to come to pass.

  27. He says this to Peter as he is washing the feet of the apostles and disciples.

  28. And Peter says to Him,

  29. You shall never wash my feet.

  30. And Jesus says this,

  31. If I don't wash your feet, you have no part with me.

  32. And He says,

  33. Not only my feet, but my hands and my head also.

  34. Wash all of me, Peter would say.

  35. And Jesus says that I only need to wash your feet.

  36. It is enough.

  37. What He is symbolically saying is that the washing of His sacrifice,

  38. the sacrifice of His life is sufficient for salvation.

  39. But I want us to catch this in verse 11.

  40. He says,

  41. He knew who was going to betray Him.

  42. That was why He said,

  43. Not all of you are clean.

  44. There's this truth in the Scripture in John that says that there's this one

  45. who is a part of my close friends,

  46. who is one of the apostles,

  47. who is going to betray Him.

  48. He's telling them this ahead of time.

  49. And He says,

  50. Not all of you are clean.

  51. In essence, He's saying that the covering of my blood has not covered Judas.

  52. And we'll talk more about that as we look at his betrayal.

  53. And as we step into verse 18,

  54. I would ask if you're able to stand in honor of God's Word,

  55. I would ask you to do that.

  56. If you're not physically able, we understand.

  57. Please remain seated.

  58. As we read chapter 13, starting in verse 18,

  59. reading through the end of the chapter.

  60. I hope you brought your Bible with you.

  61. I would encourage you to open it and read with us.

  62. As we read, starting in verse 18.

  63. I am not speaking of all of you.

  64. I know whom I have chosen.

  65. But the Scripture will be fulfilled.

  66. He who ate my bread has lifted up his heel against me.

  67. I am telling you this now before it takes place,

  68. that when it does take place,

  69. you may believe that I am He.

  70. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  71. whoever receives the one I send receives me,

  72. and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.

  73. After saying these things,

  74. Jesus was troubled in His spirit and testified,

  75. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  76. one of you will betray me.

  77. The disciples looked at one another,

  78. uncertain of whom He spoke.

  79. One of His disciples, whom Jesus loved,

  80. was reclining at the table at Jesus' side.

  81. So Simon Peter motioned to Him

  82. to ask Jesus of whom He was speaking.

  83. So that disciple, leaning back against Jesus,

  84. said to Him,

  85. Lord, who is it?

  86. Jesus answered,

  87. It is He to whom I will give this morsel of bread

  88. when I have dipped it.

  89. So when He had dipped the morsel,

  90. He gave it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.

  91. Then after He had taken the morsel,

  92. Satan entered into Him.

  93. Jesus said to him,

  94. What you are doing, do quickly.

  95. Now no one at the table knew

  96. why He had said this to Him.

  97. Some thought that because Judas had the money bag,

  98. Jesus was telling him,

  99. Buy what we need for the feast,

  100. or that He should give something to the poor.

  101. So after receiving the morsel of bread,

  102. He immediately went out,

  103. and it was night.

  104. When He had gone out,

  105. Jesus said,

  106. Now is the Son of Man glorified,

  107. and God is glorified in Him.

  108. If God is glorified in Him,

  109. God will also glorify Him in Himself,

  110. and glorify Him at once,

  111. little children.

  112. Yet a little while I am with you.

  113. You will seek Me,

  114. and just as I said to the Jews,

  115. so now I also say to you,

  116. where I am going,

  117. you cannot come.

  118. A new commandment I give you,

  119. that you love one another,

  120. just as I have loved you.

  121. You also are to love one another.

  122. By this all people will know,

  123. that you are My disciples,

  124. if you have love for one another.

  125. Simon Peter said to Him,

  126. Lord, where are you going?

  127. Jesus answered him,

  128. Where I am going,

  129. you cannot follow Me now,

  130. but you will follow afterwards.

  131. Peter said to Him,

  132. Lord, why can I not follow you now?

  133. I will lay down My life for you.

  134. Jesus answered,

  135. Will you lay down your life for Me?

  136. Truly, truly, I say to you,

  137. the rooster will not crow,

  138. till you have denied Me three times.

  139. Let's pray.

  140. Father,

  141. I recognize even this morning,

  142. my weakness,

  143. and my inability to accurately share Your Word,

  144. unless You do it through me.

  145. So God, I ask that You would lead our time together,

  146. as we open Your Word.

  147. I pray that You would speak to our hearts,

  148. not just our ears,

  149. not just our head.

  150. I pray that You speak to our hearts.

  151. Father, I pray that You would open our eyes,

  152. and our ears to see the depth of Your Word this morning,

  153. and You would move us to obedience,

  154. I pray in Your name.

  155. Amen.

  156. You can have a seat.

  157. So this morning, I want to talk about,

  158. and I see four things we really want to look at in this passage.

  159. One is a great betrayal.

  160. We see, and we know that in the life,

  161. in the example of Judas Iscariot,

  162. we'll talk about that.

  163. And also, we see a great love in this passage,

  164. in the person of Christ.

  165. We also see a new commandment,

  166. and we'll talk about what that means for you and I.

  167. And then lastly,

  168. there's a great need that each of us has.

  169. A great betrayal,

  170. great love,

  171. a new commandment,

  172. and a great need is what we'll talk about.

  173. First, a great betrayal.

  174. Consider this.

  175. How is it possible

  176. that Judas Iscariot would live with Christ for three years,

  177. be one of the disciples that was with Him,

  178. that ate bread with Him,

  179. that watched all the miracles that He did,

  180. watched how He loved people and cared for people,

  181. not just the elite of the society,

  182. but the down and out.

  183. How He loved them,

  184. how He healed those who had limbs that didn't work,

  185. how He opened the eyes of blind men,

  186. how He fed 5,000 in the wilderness.

  187. He saw all of this.

  188. How could He see that?

  189. And how could He see how selfless Christ was,

  190. how much He loved and cared for people,

  191. and even Judas himself received care from Jesus?

  192. They sat at the table together.

  193. They lived together.

  194. And yet,

  195. how is it that He'd be willing to kill the Lord Jesus?

  196. We look at that and we can't fathom

  197. why He would get to this place,

  198. or how is it possible He'd get to this place?

  199. Let me just share this.

  200. It's not just that He betrayed Jesus as a friend,

  201. and He said,

  202. oh, He's not my friend anymore.

  203. anymore.

  204. That's not what is being shared by Christ here.

  205. This betrayal is greater than just turning and walking away.

  206. We will remember what He did,

  207. that He sought out an opportunity to betray Him.

  208. Remember, as Christ was doing ministry,

  209. especially in Jerusalem,

  210. that the chief priest and the council

  211. were seeking to arrest Him and kill Him, right?

  212. Many times they sent people to go arrest Him,

  213. and one time they came back and said,

  214. never man spake like this.

  215. We couldn't take Him.

  216. Oftentimes, the people were so amazed

  217. at the words of Christ

  218. that the leaders of the Jews

  219. didn't want to take Him at those moments

  220. for fear that they would be attacked.

  221. But know this,

  222. that they were trying all along

  223. to find an opportunity

  224. to take Jesus

  225. so that they could kill Him.

  226. Judas knew that.

  227. And one time when they left town

  228. and they were getting ready to come back,

  229. he says,

  230. Lord, what are you doing?

  231. Don't you know they're seeking to kill you?

  232. Why would you go right back to Jerusalem?

  233. There's a strong probability

  234. they'll find you and arrest you.

  235. Judas was part of that.

  236. Judas heard those conversations.

  237. Judas knew that they wanted to kill Him.

  238. And so what did Judas do?

  239. In his betrayal,

  240. he went to those very men

  241. and said,

  242. what will you give me

  243. if I hand Him to you?

  244. What will you give me

  245. if I take you to Him

  246. and I put Him in your hands

  247. so that you can arrest Him

  248. and you can kill Him?

  249. Understand that the betrayal of Judas

  250. was a willingness to kill Jesus.

  251. Doesn't that amaze you?

  252. How is it possible

  253. being around Him and seeing Him

  254. that He would get to this place

  255. where He'd be willing

  256. to hand Him over

  257. in a manner of speaking

  258. to those who sought to kill Him?

  259. Well, there's two sides to this story.

  260. That is the betrayal of Judas.

  261. One side is the side of Judas.

  262. The other side is the sovereign side.

  263. That is from God's perspective.

  264. How is it possible

  265. that God would even foreknow

  266. or foretell or prophesy

  267. or let us know that this is coming?

  268. Look with me, if you will,

  269. in verse 18.

  270. Christ is speaking and He says,

  271. He quotes the Scripture.

  272. He quotes Psalm 41

  273. and He says this.

  274. He says,

  275. He who ate my bread

  276. has lifted His heel against me.

  277. He who ate my bread

  278. has lifted His heel against me.

  279. Who is He referring to?

  280. He's referring to the betrayer.

  281. You know,

  282. this is prophesied

  283. that there's coming a time

  284. when one who is part of His inner circle,

  285. if you will,

  286. the twelve,

  287. is going to betray Him,

  288. is going to hand Him over

  289. to be killed.

  290. God knew ahead of time.

  291. God told us ahead of time.

  292. And Christ is doing the same.

  293. Christ is saying that

  294. He is going to

  295. lift His heel against me.

  296. He is going to

  297. betray me.

  298. We saw it as I

  299. talked about it early

  300. in verse 11.

  301. The one who is going to betray

  302. is Judas.

  303. And we could look at other places

  304. in Scripture.

  305. And we would

  306. see that

  307. Judas is

  308. the one

  309. who is going to betray.

  310. Christ talks about this

  311. more than once.

  312. For sake of time,

  313. I'll not turn

  314. to all those passages.

  315. But it begs a question,

  316. how is it possible?

  317. How is it possible

  318. that He would be willing

  319. to do that?

  320. And the passage this morning,

  321. it answers that question.

  322. Look at this.

  323. It says in verse 18,

  324. I am not speaking

  325. to all of you.

  326. Speaking about what,

  327. Jesus?

  328. It would go back

  329. to verse 12.

  330. He was washing the feet

  331. and He's saying,

  332. do you understand

  333. what I'm doing for you?

  334. Do you understand

  335. as I wash your feet?

  336. This is a demonstration

  337. of the forgiveness

  338. that I give you.

  339. That my death

  340. on the cross,

  341. my sacrifice

  342. in my life

  343. is sufficient

  344. for you

  345. that you would be

  346. cleaned,

  347. cleansed.

  348. But there's one

  349. who is not cleansed.

  350. It's this one

  351. that was foretold.

  352. It's this one

  353. that never received Christ,

  354. never understood

  355. Him to be the Messiah.

  356. And we see here

  357. in verse 18,

  358. I'm not speaking

  359. to all of you.

  360. I know whom

  361. I have chosen.

  362. Christ,

  363. what are you saying?

  364. Is there one

  365. whom you have not chosen?

  366. That's exactly

  367. what He's saying.

  368. Of the twelve,

  369. one is not chosen.

  370. One is not cleansed.

  371. John 17 says this.

  372. It says,

  373. While I was with them,

  374. this is a high priestly prayer,

  375. this is Christ.

  376. We get an inside view

  377. of Christ speaking

  378. directly to the Father.

  379. And here's what He's saying.

  380. While I was with them,

  381. that is the twelve,

  382. the disciples,

  383. I kept them.

  384. In your name,

  385. which you have given me,

  386. I have guarded them.

  387. Isn't it a beautiful picture

  388. that Christ has kept

  389. and guarded

  390. His apostles,

  391. His disciples?

  392. And none of them

  393. has been lost

  394. except the Son of Destruction.

  395. In His prayer

  396. to the Father,

  397. He acknowledges

  398. that Psalm 41,

  399. the fulfillment

  400. of Psalm 41

  401. happens in the person

  402. of Judas.

  403. Does that mean

  404. that Judas was forced

  405. to betray Him?

  406. No, not at all.

  407. Judas did it

  408. of His own will.

  409. So we see two sides

  410. of this great betrayal.

  411. It's the side

  412. of Judas choosing

  413. to betray Him,

  414. choosing to go

  415. to the priest

  416. and say,

  417. What will you give me

  418. if I betray Him,

  419. if I hand Him to you?

  420. What will you give me?

  421. And they agreed

  422. to give Him

  423. thirty pieces of silver.

  424. Listen,

  425. for the sake of money,

  426. for the sake of money,

  427. He was willing

  428. to betray Jesus.

  429. You know,

  430. the Scripture does indicate

  431. that He had the money bag.

  432. Even in our passage,

  433. He was the one

  434. that carried the money bag

  435. so when they had

  436. a need for food,

  437. they would go to Judas,

  438. Can you go and get us

  439. the food we need

  440. for our group?

  441. Or go give money

  442. to the poor,

  443. whatever was the purpose

  444. of the moment.

  445. But the Scripture indicates

  446. that often He would

  447. pilfer out of the bag.

  448. He would reach

  449. His hand in.

  450. He would grab the money.

  451. He would use it

  452. for Himself.

  453. You know what we see

  454. in Judas

  455. is an extreme selfishness.

  456. That He would be willing

  457. to betray another,

  458. someone that had loved Him

  459. and cared for Him.

  460. He was willing

  461. to betray Him.

  462. Why?

  463. Because of His selfishness.

  464. That He,

  465. we see in His life

  466. this picture

  467. of Him living for Himself.

  468. This great betrayal.

  469. how is it possible

  470. He could live

  471. and not understand

  472. that Jesus is the Messiah?

  473. And then I want you

  474. to look at

  475. the second point

  476. is great love.

  477. So we see great betrayal

  478. in the life of Judas.

  479. Something that we can't understand.

  480. And I'm reminded of

  481. an illustration

  482. I want to share with you

  483. in reference

  484. before we look at

  485. this great love of Christ.

  486. I want to remind you of,

  487. I want to just share with you

  488. a little quick story.

  489. So I'm sitting recently,

  490. within the last year

  491. I'm sitting in a restaurant

  492. and I got a guy

  493. that's a friend of mine

  494. who's in his 30s

  495. and he's sharing with me,

  496. he's opened his heart to me,

  497. he's saying,

  498. man, I think I've finally found

  499. the girl that I want to marry.

  500. He said,

  501. here I am in my 30s,

  502. mid-30s,

  503. and I've just not been

  504. the type of guy

  505. that wanted to settle down.

  506. I wanted to do my own thing,

  507. but I think I've found the girl.

  508. I really believe I have.

  509. And he was sharing with me

  510. that he was,

  511. the very weekend

  512. we were sitting

  513. at a restaurant together

  514. and he was sharing with me

  515. that he was intending

  516. to ask her to marry him

  517. that very weekend.

  518. And I'm sitting on the past tense.

  519. He's sharing with me

  520. the story of his intention.

  521. He said,

  522. but this weekend

  523. after I got home from a trip,

  524. I came back

  525. and she didn't return my call.

  526. I texted,

  527. she didn't return my text.

  528. We were supposed to meet

  529. and she didn't show up.

  530. It's like,

  531. what is going on?

  532. And it turns out

  533. that he found out

  534. that she was with another guy,

  535. hugging on another guy,

  536. kissing on another guy,

  537. spending time with another guy

  538. after they had talked about marriage

  539. over an extended period of time.

  540. And that very weekend,

  541. he was intending

  542. to ask her to marry him

  543. and it all fell apart.

  544. You can imagine the pain

  545. that he was carrying

  546. as we sat at the table together.

  547. It's a betrayal,

  548. isn't it?

  549. It's a picture of a betrayal.

  550. One whom indicated

  551. that yes,

  552. I love you,

  553. yes,

  554. I'm willing to marry you

  555. and was heading down that road

  556. only the very weekend

  557. he was intending

  558. that she turned

  559. to another guy

  560. and left him.

  561. It's painful.

  562. I walk with him

  563. through that process.

  564. The picture of betrayal

  565. in the life of Judas

  566. is painful.

  567. It's hard to understand.

  568. But let me just say this.

  569. You know we're all capable

  570. of that same thing?

  571. Do you realize that

  572. in a manner of speaking,

  573. that's us?

  574. Lest we think that we're not capable of that,

  575. I would caution you

  576. to consider who we really are,

  577. to really look deep

  578. and see who we really are,

  579. what we're really capable of

  580. apart from Christ.

  581. Now let's look at Christ,

  582. this incredible great love

  583. that we see pictured in Christ.

  584. We've seen this through the book

  585. as we've walked through John.

  586. I won't spend a ton of time here,

  587. but I do want to highlight

  588. the beauty of what Christ

  589. is willing to do for us.

  590. We see here in verse 31,

  591. when he had gone out,

  592. Jesus said,

  593. now is the Son of Man glorified.

  594. What does he mean?

  595. Now is the Son of Man glorified.

  596. You know what he's saying?

  597. Is that it is time,

  598. now is time.

  599. And I will be betrayed

  600. this very night.

  601. And I will be taken captive

  602. this very night.

  603. And I will be killed

  604. and crucified tomorrow.

  605. Now is the time

  606. when the Son of Man

  607. is going to be glorified.

  608. God is going to be glorified

  609. in and through the Son

  610. as he gives his life away.

  611. For our sakes, right?

  612. We understand what he did here.

  613. We understand what his death meant.

  614. Listen to what John 15 says.

  615. It says this,

  616. greater love has no one than this

  617. that someone would lay down

  618. his life for his friends.

  619. Greater love has no one than this

  620. that he would lay down his life

  621. for his friends.

  622. You know that's what Christ

  623. has done for you and me.

  624. He has laid down his life

  625. for you and me

  626. that we might have life.

  627. You realize,

  628. and I'm confident

  629. that most if not all of you

  630. understand that

  631. we can't ever earn

  632. eternal life.

  633. We can't ever earn

  634. salvation

  635. apart from one who is perfect

  636. that would die on our behalf.

  637. We had no hope

  638. and that perfect one

  639. was Jesus.

  640. And he was willing to die

  641. a cruel, painful death

  642. that you and I

  643. might have life.

  644. We look in the Word

  645. at some powerful passages

  646. in 1 Peter 2.

  647. It says this,

  648. it's that he, Jesus,

  649. bore our sins in his body

  650. on the tree,

  651. meaning the cross,

  652. the wooden cross,

  653. that we might die to sin

  654. and live to righteousness.

  655. It says, listen,

  656. this is an echo

  657. of Isaiah 53.

  658. By his wounds

  659. you have been healed.

  660. By the spear

  661. that pierced his side,

  662. by the hanging on the cross,

  663. the death,

  664. the grueling death,

  665. the agony of death

  666. that Christ experienced.

  667. By his wounds

  668. we have been healed.

  669. By his death

  670. we have been made righteous.

  671. It's the great exchange, right?

  672. Our sins were placed on him

  673. and his righteousness

  674. was placed on us

  675. that we might be accepted

  676. by the Father.

  677. He was willing to die

  678. on our behalf.

  679. Romans 5 says it this way,

  680. but God shows his love for us.

  681. Do you realize

  682. that our salvation

  683. is an expression

  684. of God's love?

  685. He shows his love for us

  686. in that while we were still sinners,

  687. Christ died for you and me.

  688. This great love,

  689. one who would be willing

  690. to go to the cross

  691. for you and I.

  692. Do you see the extremes here?

  693. This incredible betrayal

  694. that is self-focused.

  695. It's hard to imagine

  696. someone who is more selfish

  697. than he'd be willing

  698. to cause another man

  699. to be put to death.

  700. He would betray one

  701. who he is in friendship with.

  702. It just is crazy to think

  703. that he'd be willing

  704. to go to that level

  705. of selfishness

  706. that is all about him,

  707. all about what he can get,

  708. the money that he would receive,

  709. and yet you look

  710. at the selflessness of Christ.

  711. You see the extremes?

  712. The selfishness of Judah

  713. and the selflessness of Christ,

  714. that he would be willing to die.

  715. The beautiful picture of love,

  716. what does it look like,

  717. a willingness to die?

  718. Now let me ask us this question.

  719. And it gets real

  720. as I ask this question.

  721. Do you see yourself

  722. as more like Judas

  723. or more like Jesus?

  724. Do you see yourself

  725. as more like Judas

  726. or more like Jesus?

  727. You know,

  728. until we recognize

  729. that we're capable

  730. of doing exactly

  731. what Judas does,

  732. until we recognize

  733. that we don't have

  734. the capacity

  735. to honor God.

  736. You know,

  737. the truth is

  738. that the Word of God

  739. says we're enslaved

  740. to sin

  741. in our natural state

  742. before we're redeemed,

  743. before we're born again,

  744. that we don't have

  745. the genuine capacity

  746. to love selflessly.

  747. You know that all of us

  748. are selfish by nature?

  749. Romans 6 said it this way,

  750. we're enslaved to sin.

  751. Brothers and sisters,

  752. I want us to see

  753. that we,

  754. in our natural state,

  755. are a whole lot more

  756. like Judas

  757. than we are Jesus.

  758. Jesus.

  759. We don't want

  760. to believe that.

  761. We want to believe

  762. there's a lot of good

  763. in us.

  764. And there's no way

  765. we would ever go

  766. to that extreme.

  767. You know,

  768. perhaps we never would

  769. betray someone

  770. to their death.

  771. Perhaps we wouldn't

  772. be as bad

  773. as we could be,

  774. but you know what

  775. the Word of God

  776. says about us

  777. in our natural state?

  778. There's nothing good

  779. in us.

  780. We're slaves to sin.

  781. All we do is sin.

  782. It might have

  783. a different picture

  784. than betrayal,

  785. but nonetheless,

  786. it's offensive

  787. to a holy God.

  788. And until God

  789. does a work

  790. in our life

  791. and changes us,

  792. we will never

  793. be like Jesus.

  794. That we're

  795. like Judas.

  796. And until we

  797. understand

  798. the depth

  799. of our sin,

  800. we don't need

  801. a Savior.

  802. At least we think

  803. we don't need

  804. a Savior.

  805. If we feel like

  806. we're mostly good,

  807. then our mostly

  808. goodness might

  809. earn our way

  810. into heaven.

  811. You know that's

  812. not biblical.

  813. There's nothing

  814. you can do

  815. that has any

  816. spiritual value,

  817. that has any

  818. credit to your

  819. account,

  820. that has any

  821. effect in God

  822. accepting you

  823. as His child.

  824. Apart from the

  825. gift of salvation

  826. on our behalf,

  827. we would never

  828. be in His kingdom.

  829. We're just like

  830. in many ways,

  831. Judas.

  832. Brothers and

  833. sisters,

  834. I hope that we

  835. will acknowledge

  836. the depth of

  837. our sin as God

  838. continues to reveal

  839. it.

  840. In Sunday school

  841. this morning,

  842. we talked about,

  843. you know,

  844. we know a lot

  845. because God's

  846. revealed it,

  847. but you know

  848. it's a whole lot

  849. deeper than we

  850. think.

  851. Paul even said,

  852. I'm the chief

  853. of sinners.

  854. As I've

  855. sought Him

  856. and I've

  857. pursued Him,

  858. I've recognized

  859. in comparison

  860. to His holiness,

  861. I've seen my

  862. sin now that

  863. it's darker

  864. than I ever

  865. thought,

  866. it's deeper

  867. than I ever

  868. thought.

  869. So,

  870. this,

  871. the third

  872. point I want

  873. to share.

  874. First point is

  875. great betrayal,

  876. the second is

  877. the great love

  878. of Christ.

  879. The third is

  880. a new commandment.

  881. Read with me

  882. if you will.

  883. In verse 34,

  884. this is Christ

  885. speaking to His

  886. disciples and He

  887. says this,

  888. a new commandment

  889. I give to you

  890. that you love

  891. one another

  892. just as I have

  893. loved you.

  894. A new commandment

  895. I give you.

  896. What is that

  897. commandment,

  898. Christ?

  899. What are you

  900. asking us to do?

  901. And Christ says,

  902. to love one another.

  903. But I want you

  904. to notice the

  905. phrase here,

  906. just as.

  907. Don't miss

  908. the just as.

  909. Bill,

  910. He wants you

  911. to love

  912. just as He

  913. loved.

  914. The same way

  915. that He loved,

  916. His commandment

  917. is that you

  918. would love

  919. the same way.

  920. All of us.

  921. I'm not picking

  922. on Bill.

  923. I just happened

  924. to look back

  925. there and see

  926. him in the

  927. corner.

  928. He was almost

  929. going to sleep

  930. and I had

  931. to wake him

  932. up.

  933. So,

  934. I got his

  935. attention.

  936. He's awake

  937. now.

  938. Bill,

  939. He's called

  940. us all to do

  941. that.

  942. To love

  943. just as Christ

  944. loved.

  945. Let me ask

  946. this,

  947. what did that

  948. love look

  949. like?

  950. You know

  951. what's selfless?

  952. Do you

  953. find that in

  954. your life

  955. that you're

  956. crucifying self?

  957. Do you

  958. find that you

  959. treat people

  960. in a selfless

  961. way?

  962. You know,

  963. if we were to

  964. read 1 Corinthians

  965. 13 about love

  966. and what it

  967. looks like,

  968. it's not

  969. self-focused,

  970. is it?

  971. It's others

  972. focused.

  973. Genuine love

  974. is selfless.

  975. And apart

  976. from being

  977. in the

  978. kingdom,

  979. apart from

  980. receiving the

  981. new life

  982. that he

  983. gives us,

  984. apart from

  985. being born

  986. again,

  987. apart from

  988. genuinely having

  989. the Holy Spirit

  990. indwelling us,

  991. you know what

  992. chance we have

  993. of being

  994. selfless?

  995. None.

  996. You think

  997. about the

  998. high call

  999. that he's

  1000. given us

  1001. here.

  1002. Dick,

  1003. he's calling

  1004. you to be

  1005. selfless.

  1006. He's calling

  1007. us to love

  1008. in this way.

  1009. And what

  1010. does that

  1011. love look

  1012. like?

  1013. It looks

  1014. just like

  1015. Jesus.

  1016. He was

  1017. fully

  1018. selfless.

  1019. And what

  1020. did he

  1021. do?

  1022. He died

  1023. on our

  1024. behalf.

  1025. He died

  1026. on the

  1027. behalf of

  1028. others.

  1029. He never

  1030. did a

  1031. selfless

  1032. act.

  1033. Now let

  1034. me ask

  1035. this,

  1036. can we

  1037. live

  1038. perfectly

  1039. and live

  1040. like

  1041. Jesus?

  1042. You know

  1043. what we

  1044. think with

  1045. this,

  1046. we think

  1047. in these

  1048. ways is

  1049. that I

  1050. know my

  1051. history,

  1052. I know

  1053. the way

  1054. I've

  1055. lived,

  1056. I know

  1057. more sins

  1058. than I've

  1059. ever told

  1060. anybody.

  1061. I know

  1062. God knows

  1063. them,

  1064. but I'm

  1065. not able

  1066. to do

  1067. that.

  1068. Why is

  1069. he asking

  1070. me to

  1071. do

  1072. something

  1073. that I

  1074. know

  1075. from

  1076. history

  1077. in my

  1078. life that

  1079. I can't

  1080. do?

  1081. God,

  1082. what are

  1083. you saying?

  1084. That I need

  1085. to live

  1086. just like

  1087. Jesus?

  1088. That's the

  1089. command to

  1090. love in

  1091. this way,

  1092. to have a

  1093. life of

  1094. selflessness,

  1095. to love and

  1096. care for

  1097. others.

  1098. God,

  1099. that's too

  1100. high.

  1101. We can't

  1102. do it.

  1103. God,

  1104. that this

  1105. is not

  1106. something

  1107. possible?

  1108. Praise God,

  1109. as the

  1110. natural man,

  1111. it's not

  1112. possible.

  1113. Left to

  1114. your own

  1115. ability,

  1116. it's not

  1117. possible.

  1118. We can't

  1119. do it.

  1120. You know

  1121. what God

  1122. did?

  1123. He transformed

  1124. us when

  1125. he made

  1126. us new.

  1127. it's

  1128. interesting,

  1129. if we

  1130. turn,

  1131. I'll

  1132. turn,

  1133. you'll

  1134. have to

  1135. turn,

  1136. but going

  1137. back to

  1138. John 15,

  1139. where he

  1140. said,

  1141. greater love

  1142. has no

  1143. man than

  1144. this,

  1145. that a

  1146. man lay

  1147. down his

  1148. life for

  1149. his friends.

  1150. You know

  1151. what verse

  1152. is before

  1153. it?

  1154. Listen to

  1155. the verse.

  1156. This is my

  1157. commandment,

  1158. that you

  1159. love one

  1160. another as

  1161. I have

  1162. loved you.

  1163. And he

  1164. says,

  1165. you know

  1166. what that

  1167. looks like?

  1168. It looks

  1169. like this.

  1170. that a

  1171. man would

  1172. lay down

  1173. his life

  1174. for his

  1175. friends.

  1176. You know

  1177. what he's

  1178. saying to

  1179. that inner

  1180. circle,

  1181. to the

  1182. apostles?

  1183. He's

  1184. saying,

  1185. this is

  1186. my

  1187. commandment

  1188. for you,

  1189. that you

  1190. love one

  1191. another like

  1192. I have

  1193. loved you,

  1194. that you

  1195. love in a

  1196. selfless way,

  1197. that you

  1198. lay down

  1199. your life

  1200. for others.

  1201. How is it

  1202. possible that

  1203. he would ask

  1204. us to lay

  1205. down our

  1206. life?

  1207. Is he

  1208. asking us

  1209. to jump

  1210. in front of

  1211. the bullet

  1212. and take

  1213. it?

  1214. For another

  1215. person?

  1216. Is that

  1217. what he's

  1218. asking us

  1219. to do?

  1220. Perhaps?

  1221. You know,

  1222. we've seen

  1223. movies where

  1224. there's one

  1225. lifeboat and

  1226. too many people

  1227. defend in the

  1228. lifeboat and

  1229. the decision

  1230. has to be

  1231. made who

  1232. goes in the

  1233. lifeboat.

  1234. And the

  1235. honorable man

  1236. would be the

  1237. man that

  1238. takes his

  1239. wife and

  1240. puts his

  1241. wife in

  1242. the boat

  1243. and he

  1244. perishes

  1245. because there's

  1246. not room

  1247. enough in

  1248. the boat.

  1249. That would

  1250. be a picture

  1251. in a sense

  1252. of taking

  1253. the bullet

  1254. or really

  1255. being willing

  1256. to give

  1257. our lives

  1258. away at

  1259. that moment

  1260. for another

  1261. person.

  1262. Is that

  1263. honorable?

  1264. Amen.

  1265. Yes,

  1266. it's

  1267. honorable.

  1268. It's

  1269. selfless if

  1270. we genuinely

  1271. do that

  1272. because we

  1273. care for

  1274. the other.

  1275. But you

  1276. know what

  1277. Christ did?

  1278. He gave

  1279. his life

  1280. away every

  1281. single day.

  1282. Every moment

  1283. of every day

  1284. he chose not

  1285. to sin.

  1286. He didn't

  1287. do selfish

  1288. things.

  1289. He was

  1290. selfless every

  1291. minute of

  1292. every day.

  1293. So Christ,

  1294. are you giving

  1295. us this

  1296. commandment to

  1297. be selfless

  1298. every single

  1299. day?

  1300. Yes and

  1301. amen.

  1302. If you

  1303. want to

  1304. hear the

  1305. high call

  1306. of God

  1307. you just

  1308. heard it.

  1309. A new

  1310. commandment

  1311. I give

  1312. you to

  1313. love like

  1314. I love

  1315. that means

  1316. to die

  1317. every single

  1318. day to

  1319. self and

  1320. to live

  1321. for me.

  1322. Matter of

  1323. fact,

  1324. Paul says

  1325. I crucify

  1326. my flesh

  1327. and I

  1328. make it

  1329. my slave.

  1330. He talks

  1331. about taking

  1332. every thought

  1333. captive that

  1334. we might

  1335. walk in

  1336. this obedient

  1337. life.

  1338. That we

  1339. would not

  1340. live according

  1341. to the

  1342. flesh but

  1343. we live

  1344. according

  1345. to the

  1346. spirit.

  1347. That we

  1348. would walk

  1349. in step

  1350. with the

  1351. spirit.

  1352. That we

  1353. would abide

  1354. in Christ.

  1355. John 15.

  1356. Abide in

  1357. me and

  1358. I and

  1359. you.

  1360. You can't

  1361. do anything

  1362. with any

  1363. spiritual benefit

  1364. unless I

  1365. do it

  1366. through you.

  1367. Apart from

  1368. me you

  1369. can do

  1370. nothing.

  1371. Do you

  1372. hear the

  1373. high call?

  1374. Paul says

  1375. the high

  1376. call of

  1377. God in

  1378. Christ

  1379. Jesus.

  1380. The high

  1381. call of

  1382. God in

  1383. Christ

  1384. Jesus as

  1385. we trust

  1386. in him

  1387. to do

  1388. through us

  1389. what we

  1390. can't do.

  1391. The Holy

  1392. Spirit is

  1393. willing to

  1394. live through

  1395. us in

  1396. this way

  1397. that's

  1398. amazing.

  1399. Philippians

  1400. 3 even

  1401. talks about

  1402. it like

  1403. this.

  1404. If I

  1405. can get

  1406. there.

  1407. Paul says

  1408. these things

  1409. I used

  1410. to count

  1411. no no

  1412. Philippians

  1413. 2 sorry

  1414. it said

  1415. I'm doing

  1416. this by

  1417. memory because

  1418. my tab was

  1419. in the wrong

  1420. place.

  1421. You know

  1422. when you

  1423. put these

  1424. tabs in

  1425. it's a

  1426. quick way

  1427. to turn

  1428. but I

  1429. messed up.

  1430. He talked

  1431. about

  1432. Christ

  1433. he says

  1434. Christ

  1435. even though

  1436. he was

  1437. very

  1438. God

  1439. did not

  1440. consider

  1441. equality

  1442. with

  1443. God

  1444. something

  1445. to be

  1446. grasped

  1447. but he

  1448. humbled

  1449. himself

  1450. and he

  1451. made

  1452. himself

  1453. a

  1454. servant

  1455. for the

  1456. sake of

  1457. others.

  1458. He lived

  1459. selflessly

  1460. and in

  1461. that same

  1462. passage

  1463. he said

  1464. that we

  1465. should

  1466. count

  1467. others

  1468. as more

  1469. important

  1470. than

  1471. ourselves.

  1472. Do we

  1473. live like

  1474. that?

  1475. Do we

  1476. count

  1477. others

  1478. as more

  1479. important

  1480. than

  1481. ourselves?

  1482. Do we

  1483. have the

  1484. life of

  1485. a servant?

  1486. You know

  1487. that's the

  1488. call the

  1489. high call

  1490. of God

  1491. but I

  1492. want you

  1493. to see

  1494. where we

  1495. really are.

  1496. you know

  1497. it's

  1498. interesting

  1499. as this

  1500. passage

  1501. goes on

  1502. he gives

  1503. us this

  1504. example

  1505. of

  1506. Peter

  1507. so

  1508. John

  1509. shows us

  1510. an inside

  1511. view of

  1512. what went

  1513. down

  1514. with

  1515. Peter

  1516. and here's

  1517. what he

  1518. says

  1519. in 36

  1520. Lord where

  1521. are you

  1522. going

  1523. that I

  1524. can't

  1525. go?

  1526. He says

  1527. where I'm

  1528. going

  1529. you can't

  1530. go now

  1531. wait a

  1532. minute

  1533. I'm

  1534. willing

  1535. to go

  1536. anywhere

  1537. with

  1538. you

  1539. he says

  1540. I'll

  1541. even lay

  1542. down

  1543. my life

  1544. for you

  1545. and Jesus

  1546. says

  1547. really?

  1548. Peter

  1549. the heart

  1550. is willing

  1551. but the

  1552. flesh

  1553. is weak

  1554. and he

  1555. says here

  1556. I will

  1557. lay down

  1558. my life

  1559. for you

  1560. and Jesus

  1561. says

  1562. truly

  1563. truly

  1564. I say

  1565. to you

  1566. this

  1567. night

  1568. the rooster

  1569. won't

  1570. crow

  1571. before you

  1572. deny me

  1573. three times

  1574. you know

  1575. what Peter

  1576. was relying

  1577. on?

  1578. he was relying

  1579. on his own

  1580. ability

  1581. you know

  1582. what he

  1583. needed?

  1584. you know

  1585. what Peter

  1586. needed?

  1587. truly needed?

  1588. he needed

  1589. what Luke

  1590. 22

  1591. talks about

  1592. this is

  1593. another

  1594. view

  1595. that we

  1596. have

  1597. through the

  1598. eyes of

  1599. Luke

  1600. and he

  1601. says this

  1602. Simon

  1603. Simon

  1604. behold

  1605. Satan

  1606. demanded

  1607. to have

  1608. you

  1609. that he

  1610. might

  1611. sift

  1612. you

  1613. like

  1614. weak

  1615. but I

  1616. have

  1617. prayed

  1618. for you

  1619. that your

  1620. faith

  1621. may not

  1622. fail

  1623. notice

  1624. what he

  1625. says

  1626. here

  1627. Simon

  1628. the enemy

  1629. is in

  1630. pursuit

  1631. of you

  1632. to destroy

  1633. you

  1634. he didn't

  1635. say

  1636. I've

  1637. rescued

  1638. you

  1639. out of

  1640. his

  1641. hand

  1642. I've

  1643. kept

  1644. him

  1645. from

  1646. doing

  1647. what

  1648. he

  1649. wanted

  1650. to

  1651. do

  1652. you

  1653. know

  1654. what

  1655. he

  1656. said

  1657. I

  1658. prayed

  1659. for

  1660. you

  1661. that

  1662. when

  1663. this

  1664. thing

  1665. happens

  1666. that

  1667. you

  1668. might

  1669. not

  1670. fall

  1671. away

  1672. that

  1673. your

  1674. faith

  1675. may

  1676. not

  1677. fail

  1678. what

  1679. is

  1680. happening

  1681. here

  1682. this

  1683. is

  1684. a

  1685. pruning

  1686. process

  1687. did

  1688. Peter

  1689. need

  1690. to

  1691. be

  1692. pruned

  1693. Peter

  1694. in

  1695. his

  1696. pride

  1697. said

  1698. I

  1699. can

  1700. do

  1701. this

  1702. Peter

  1703. thinks

  1704. he's

  1705. capable

  1706. of

  1707. loving

  1708. in

  1709. this

  1710. way

  1711. I'm

  1712. willing

  1713. to

  1714. die

  1715. for

  1716. you

  1717. but

  1718. was

  1719. he

  1720. what

  1721. did

  1722. he

  1723. do

  1724. in

  1725. the

  1726. moment

  1727. of

  1728. crisis

  1729. what

  1730. did

  1731. he

  1732. do

  1733. he

  1734. ran

  1735. he

  1736. protected

  1737. self

  1738. and

  1739. if

  1740. we

  1741. read

  1742. in

  1743. the

  1744. passage

  1745. in

  1746. Mark

  1747. and

  1748. we

  1749. would

  1750. read

  1751. for

  1752. sake

  1753. of

  1754. time

  1755. I

  1756. won't

  1757. read

  1758. but

  1759. in

  1760. Mark

  1761. it

  1762. goes

  1763. through

  1764. exactly

  1765. the

  1766. process

  1767. he

  1768. follows

  1769. at

  1770. a

  1771. distance

  1772. he

  1773. sees

  1774. Christ

  1775. being

  1776. taken

  1777. into

  1778. the

  1779. courtyard

  1780. of

  1781. the

  1782. high

  1783. priest

  1784. Caiaphas

  1785. place

  1786. and

  1787. he's

  1788. outside

  1789. the

  1790. gate

  1791. and

  1792. he's

  1793. looking

  1794. and

  1795. John

  1796. had

  1797. a

  1798. relationship

  1799. so

  1800. John

  1801. allowed

  1802. him

  1803. to

  1804. get

  1805. in

  1806. so

  1807. he's

  1808. inside

  1809. the

  1810. gate

  1811. and

  1812. as

  1813. he's

  1814. walking

  1815. inside

  1816. the

  1817. gate

  1818. there's

  1819. this

  1820. servant

  1821. girl

  1822. saying

  1823. wait a

  1824. minute

  1825. weren't

  1826. you

  1827. with

  1828. him

  1829. and

  1830. she's

  1831. pointing

  1832. to

  1833. Jesus

  1834. you're

  1835. one

  1836. of

  1837. his

  1838. right

  1839. and

  1840. he

  1841. goes

  1842. no

  1843. I

  1844. don't

  1845. know

  1846. what

  1847. you're

  1848. talking

  1849. about

  1850. listen

  1851. left

  1852. to

  1853. ourselves

  1854. you

  1855. guess

  1856. what

  1857. we

  1858. do

  1859. the

  1860. same

  1861. thing

  1862. and

  1863. he

  1864. goes

  1865. on

  1866. and

  1867. he

  1868. walks

  1869. up

  1870. to

  1871. the

  1872. circle

  1873. where

  1874. they're

  1875. warming

  1876. themselves

  1877. around

  1878. the

  1879. fire

  1880. and

  1881. somebody

  1882. says

  1883. hey

  1884. you're

  1885. one

  1886. of

  1887. them

  1888. you're

  1889. his

  1890. you're

  1891. a

  1892. Galilean

  1893. right

  1894. no

  1895. no

  1896. no

  1897. and

  1898. finally

  1899. says

  1900. he

  1901. curses

  1902. and

  1903. says

  1904. curses

  1905. me

  1906. in a

  1907. sense

  1908. he

  1909. said

  1910. no

  1911. I

  1912. don't

  1913. know

  1914. the

  1915. man

  1916. shut

  1917. up

  1918. why

  1919. you

  1920. keep

  1921. talking

  1922. about

  1923. this

  1924. left

  1925. to

  1926. ourselves

  1927. guess

  1928. what

  1929. we

  1930. do

  1931. we

  1932. protect

  1933. you

  1934. know

  1935. the

  1936. beautiful

  1937. thing

  1938. that

  1939. happened

  1940. afterwards

  1941. is

  1942. that

  1943. after

  1944. Christ

  1945. had been

  1946. resurrected

  1947. and he

  1948. spent

  1949. 40 days

  1950. appearing

  1951. in various

  1952. scenarios

  1953. he appeared

  1954. to Peter

  1955. and he

  1956. said

  1957. to Peter

  1958. Peter

  1959. do you

  1960. love me

  1961. how

  1962. powerful

  1963. is this

  1964. that in

  1965. our weakness

  1966. and in

  1967. our failure

  1968. he still

  1969. loves us

  1970. and he

  1971. ministers

  1972. to Peter

  1973. when Peter

  1974. has been

  1975. broken

  1976. because of

  1977. his own

  1978. sin

  1979. his own

  1980. self

  1981. protection

  1982. his own

  1983. denial of

  1984. the words

  1985. he said

  1986. he would

  1987. never do

  1988. I'm

  1989. willing to

  1990. die for

  1991. you

  1992. in the

  1993. very

  1994. night

  1995. he

  1996. didn't

  1997. do

  1998. it

  1999. you

  2000. know

  2001. we

  2002. need

  2003. the

  2004. power

  2005. of

  2006. the

  2007. Holy

  2008. Spirit

  2009. to be

  2010. faithful

  2011. he

  2012. went

  2013. to

  2014. him

  2015. and said

  2016. do you

  2017. love

  2018. me

  2019. do you

  2020. love

  2021. me

  2022. do you

  2023. love

  2024. me

  2025. yes

  2026. Lord

  2027. you

  2028. know

  2029. I

  2030. love

  2031. you

  2032. you

  2033. know

  2034. I

  2035. love

  2036. you

  2037. you

  2038. know

  2039. I

  2040. love

  2041. you

  2042. he

  2043. says

  2044. feed

  2045. my

  2046. sheep

  2047. you

  2048. know

  2049. what

  2050. each

  2051. of

  2052. us

  2053. needs

  2054. we

  2055. need

  2056. to

  2057. be

  2058. broken

  2059. if

  2060. we're

  2061. not

  2062. broken

  2063. you

  2064. know

  2065. what

  2066. happens

  2067. is

  2068. we

  2069. live

  2070. for

  2071. self

  2072. we

  2073. protect

  2074. self

  2075. you

  2076. know

  2077. James

  2078. talks

  2079. about

  2080. this

  2081. way

  2082. that

  2083. we're

  2084. to

  2085. be

  2086. thankful

  2087. for

  2088. the

  2089. trials

  2090. that

  2091. come

  2092. in

  2093. our

  2094. life

  2095. why

  2096. because

  2097. you

  2098. know

  2099. what

  2100. the

  2101. trials

  2102. do

  2103. they're

  2104. pruning

  2105. us

  2106. you

  2107. know

  2108. the

  2109. silversmith

  2110. when

  2111. he's

  2112. when

  2113. he's

  2114. taking

  2115. the

  2116. ore

  2117. and

  2118. he's

  2119. refining

  2120. the

  2121. silver

  2122. you

  2123. know

  2124. what

  2125. he

  2126. does

  2127. he

  2128. continues

  2129. to scrape

  2130. off

  2131. the

  2132. dross

  2133. and

  2134. he

  2135. heats

  2136. it

  2137. hotter

  2138. and

  2139. he

  2140. scrapes

  2141. off

  2142. the

  2143. dross

  2144. and

  2145. he

  2146. heats

  2147. it

  2148. just

  2149. right

  2150. and

  2151. what

  2152. happens

  2153. all

  2154. the

  2155. impurities

  2156. rise

  2157. to

  2158. the

  2159. surface

  2160. and

  2161. what

  2162. does

  2163. he

  2164. do

  2165. he

  2166. scrapes

  2167. off

  2168. the

  2169. impurities

  2170. and

  2171. when

  2172. is

  2173. he

  2174. through

  2175. refining

  2176. the

  2177. silver

  2178. y'all

  2179. probably

  2180. all

  2181. heard

  2182. this

  2183. when

  2184. he

  2185. looks

  2186. at

  2187. and

  2188. he

  2189. can

  2190. see

  2191. his

  2192. perfect

  2193. reflection

  2194. in

  2195. the

  2196. silver

  2197. then

  2198. the

  2199. refining

  2200. process

  2201. is

  2202. done

  2203. you

  2204. know

  2205. what

  2206. he

  2207. is

  2208. doing

  2209. that

  2210. in

  2211. our

  2212. lives

  2213. you

  2214. realize

  2215. that

  2216. he

  2217. is

  2218. he

  2219. is

  2220. he

  2221. is

  2222. causing

  2223. the

  2224. dross

  2225. to

  2226. rise

  2227. through

  2228. trials

  2229. that

  2230. come

  2231. in

  2232. our

  2233. life

  2234. he's

  2235. doing

  2236. it

  2237. on

  2238. purpose

  2239. in

  2240. order

  2241. that

  2242. we

  2243. might

  2244. be

  2245. purified

  2246. in

  2247. order

  2248. that

  2249. we

  2250. might

  2251. know

  2252. him

  2253. in

  2254. this

  2255. deep

  2256. intimate

  2257. way

  2258. and

  2259. Peter

  2260. went

  2261. through

  2262. a

  2263. process

  2264. of

  2265. brokenness

  2266. brothers

  2267. and

  2268. sisters

  2269. you

  2270. know

  2271. we

  2272. need

  2273. to

  2274. be

  2275. broken

  2276. so

  2277. that

  2278. we

  2279. wouldn't

  2280. continue

  2281. to

  2282. live

  2283. for

  2284. self

  2285. Oswald

  2286. Chambers

  2287. many

  2288. of y'all

  2289. know

  2290. his

  2291. name

  2292. he

  2293. has

  2294. this

  2295. phrase

  2296. that

  2297. has

  2298. become

  2299. well

  2300. known

  2301. and

  2302. the

  2303. phrase

  2304. says

  2305. this

  2306. before

  2307. God

  2308. can

  2309. use

  2310. a

  2311. man

  2312. greatly

  2313. he

  2314. must

  2315. wound

  2316. him

  2317. deeply

  2318. and

  2319. that

  2320. resonates

  2321. with

  2322. me

  2323. there's

  2324. a need

  2325. for us

  2326. to be

  2327. wounded

  2328. that

  2329. is

  2330. our

  2331. self

  2332. to

  2333. be

  2334. broken

  2335. in

  2336. order

  2337. that

  2338. we

  2339. quit

  2340. living

  2341. in

  2342. our

  2343. own

  2344. strength

  2345. and

  2346. we

  2347. begin

  2348. living

  2349. in

  2350. Christ

  2351. we

  2352. begin

  2353. living

  2354. through

  2355. his

  2356. power

  2357. you

  2358. know

  2359. what

  2360. he

  2361. told

  2362. the

  2363. apostles

  2364. he

  2365. says

  2366. don't

  2367. leave

  2368. Jerusalem

  2369. but

  2370. wait

  2371. here

  2372. until

  2373. when

  2374. until

  2375. Acts

  2376. 1

  2377. 8

  2378. until

  2379. Pentecost

  2380. you

  2381. know

  2382. what

  2383. happened

  2384. in

  2385. Pentecost

  2386. the

  2387. Holy

  2388. Spirit

  2389. came

  2390. and

  2391. empowered

  2392. them

  2393. in

  2394. an

  2395. amazing

  2396. way

  2397. brothers

  2398. and

  2399. sisters

  2400. we

  2401. need

  2402. to

  2403. be

  2404. broken

  2405. in

  2406. order

  2407. that

  2408. we

  2409. won't

  2410. be

  2411. living

  2412. like

  2413. we

  2414. can't

  2415. live

  2416. like

  2417. Jesus

  2418. you

  2419. know

  2420. the

  2421. only

  2422. way

  2423. to

  2424. live

  2425. like

  2426. Jesus

  2427. to

  2428. be

  2429. broken

  2430. and

  2431. to

  2432. quit

  2433. living

  2434. for

  2435. self

  2436. empowered

  2437. by

  2438. self

  2439. with

  2440. our

  2441. own

  2442. ability

  2443. but

  2444. to

  2445. say

  2446. God

  2447. I'm

  2448. not

  2449. able

  2450. I'm

  2451. weak

  2452. and

  2453. I

  2454. finally

  2455. see

  2456. my

  2457. weakness

  2458. I

  2459. ask

  2460. you

  2461. to

  2462. use

  2463. me

  2464. in

  2465. any

  2466. way

  2467. you

  2468. want

  2469. to

  2470. I

  2471. offer

  2472. myself

  2473. as

  2474. a

  2475. living

  2476. sacrifice

  2477. to

  2478. you

  2479. use

  2480. me

  2481. for

  2482. your

  2483. glory

  2484. and

  2485. your

  2486. weakness

  2487. are

  2488. you

  2489. at

  2490. a

  2491. place

  2492. in

  2493. your

  2494. life

  2495. where

  2496. you

  2497. would

  2498. say

  2499. to

  2500. him

  2501. God

  2502. I

  2503. know

  2504. I

  2505. recognize

  2506. I

  2507. see

  2508. my

  2509. weakness

  2510. I

  2511. know

  2512. there's

  2513. more

  2514. show

  2515. it

  2516. to

  2517. me

  2518. I

  2519. don't

  2520. want

  2521. to

  2522. live

  2523. that

  2524. way

  2525. I

  2526. want

  2527. to

  2528. live

  2529. for

  2530. your

  2531. kingdom

  2532. and

  2533. your

  2534. righteousness

  2535. God

  2536. do

  2537. a

  2538. work

  2539. in

  2540. my

  2541. life

  2542. that

  2543. brings

  2544. you

  2545. glory

  2546. let's

  2547. pray

  2548. father

  2549. apart

  2550. from

  2551. your

  2552. power

  2553. in

  2554. our

  2555. lives

  2556. we

  2557. continue

  2558. to

  2559. our

  2560. lives

  2561. it

  2562. would

  2563. take

  2564. us

  2565. to

  2566. this

  2567. deeper

  2568. place

  2569. father

  2570. we

  2571. hear

  2572. your

  2573. high

  2574. call

  2575. to

  2576. love

  2577. lord

  2578. jesus

  2579. to

  2580. love

  2581. like

  2582. you

  2583. love

  2584. to

  2585. be

  2586. willing

  2587. to

  2588. die

  2589. daily

  2590. to

  2591. self

  2592. lord

  2593. I

  2594. pray

  2595. that

  2596. you

  2597. would

  2598. do

  2599. that

  2600. work

  2601. in

  2602. each

  2603. of

  2604. our

  2605. lives

  2606. that

  2607. father

  2608. we

  2609. would

  2610. as

  2611. a

  2612. church

  2613. as

  2614. individuals

  2615. in

  2616. this

  2617. church

  2618. we

  2619. want

  2620. to

  2621. god

  2622. we

  2623. desire

  2624. to

  2625. offer

  2626. ourselves

  2627. as

  2628. a

  2629. living

  2630. sacrifice

  2631. but

  2632. even

  2633. then

  2634. we

  2635. were

  2636. scared

  2637. about

  2638. what

  2639. that

  2640. might

  2641. look

  2642. like

  2643. god

  2644. i

  2645. pray

  2646. that

  2647. you

  2648. would

  2649. take

  2650. away

  2651. the

  2652. fear

  2653. and

  2654. replace

  2655. it

  2656. with

  2657. this

  2658. reverent

  2659. all

  2660. of

  2661. you

  2662. and

  2663. that

  2664. we

  2665. would

  2666. not

  2667. fear

  2668. to

  2669. protect

  2670. ourselves

  2671. but

  2672. father

  2673. we

  2674. would

  2675. be

  2676. willing

  2677. to

  2678. surrender

  2679. ourselves

  2680. we

  2681. be

  2682. willing

  2683. to

  2684. die

  2685. for

  2686. your

  2687. kingdom

  2688. god

  2689. do

  2690. that

  2691. incredible

  2692. work

  2693. that

  2694. we

  2695. can't

  2696. do

  2697. i

  2698. ask

  2699. that

  2700. you

  2701. do

  2702. it

  2703. in

  2704. each

  2705. of

  2706. our

  2707. lives

  2708. and

  2709. i

  2710. ask

  2711. in

  2712. jesus

  2713. name

  2714. amen
