  1. Well, good morning. It's my privilege this morning to preach out of the book 2 Corinthians.

  2. So I would ask you if you would open with me to chapter 10 of 2 Corinthians.

  3. Our main passage this morning will be verses, chapter 10, verse 3 through 6,

  4. but I wanted to start this morning in verse 1 so you get a bit of the context here.

  5. This is Paul speaking to the church at Corinth in reference to his ministry.

  6. And so if you will, in honor of God's Word, stand with me as we read this passage this morning.

  7. Verse 1.

  8. I, Paul, myself entreat you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ,

  9. I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold towards you when I am away,

  10. I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence

  11. as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh.

  12. For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.

  13. For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

  14. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God

  15. and take every thought captive to obey Christ,

  16. being ready to punish every disobedience when your obedience is complete.

  17. Let me pray.

  18. Father, I pray that you would empower the preaching of your Word this morning.

  19. Father, if there's anything from me, I pray that it would wash away.

  20. But Father, I pray that you would cause your Word to bear fruit.

  21. And Father, I pray that you would open our hearts to hear and receive what you have for us this morning.

  22. I pray in your name. Amen.

  23. Y'all can have a seat.

  24. You know, my story, my spiritual story, just a little portion of it is this,

  25. is that I grew up in church.

  26. From the time I was a baby, an infant, I've been in the church that whole time.

  27. And yet, I was shocked when at 22 years old, someone shared with me the gospel.

  28. Now, surely somewhere along the line I'd heard about Jesus.

  29. Surely somewhere along the line I had heard someone say that He died on the cross

  30. in order to save us from our sins, that He was God's Son.

  31. Surely somewhere along the way I'd heard it.

  32. But I'd not understood it.

  33. And so I had a lady by God's providence share the gospel with me,

  34. and she started with my sin.

  35. And she asked me if I thought that I was a sinner.

  36. And because I had a balance scale that had, in my mind, more morality than it had evil,

  37. I didn't think I was lost.

  38. I didn't think I was a sinner.

  39. And I answered, no, I don't see myself as a sinner.

  40. And yet, by God's grace, He showed me the truth.

  41. She asked me a question about pride.

  42. And I answered, yeah, I'm proud of all the trophies I have lying in my room

  43. and all the successes and things that I've accomplished.

  44. I said, yes, ma'am, I am proud of that.

  45. She said, no, no, no, that's not what I mean.

  46. Let me read a couple of verses to you.

  47. So she read a couple of verses out of Scripture that have to do with pride that goes before a fall,

  48. how God hates the proud and loves the humble.

  49. And by the grace of God, He opened my eyes to see that my sin was much deeper than I ever thought.

  50. In my pride, I thought I had achieved my own salvation.

  51. And that day, I saw my sin in a way that I'd never understood it before.

  52. And how is it possible that a guy who'd been all those years in church,

  53. who had heard whatever was preached, I can't remember,

  54. how is it that I'd heard it, I'd been around it, and yet I'd never understood it?

  55. You know, I would say the reason is because of the war.

  56. The war we see in this passage this morning.

  57. And I would turn your eyes to verse 3 and 4.

  58. And I think you will notice this morning as we read this passage that this is military language.

  59. Paul is using this military language to illustrate the reality of a war that we find ourselves in.

  60. You know, it's not a physical war that he's referring to as a spiritual war.

  61. And so Paul says this to those who would claim that he's operating in the flesh,

  62. that he's walking according to the flesh, that his ministry was according to the flesh.

  63. He says, no, no, no, that is not true.

  64. He says, though we walk in the flesh, though we're humans just like you,

  65. though we have temptations that we fall to just like you,

  66. though we are like you in the flesh,

  67. we do not wage war according to the flesh.

  68. And it begs the question, Paul, what are you talking about a war?

  69. What war are you in?

  70. And I would say this, that it's not a physical war that he refers to.

  71. He's using this as an illustration to the church at Corinth.

  72. And you know, Corinth would understand what he's talking about.

  73. Perhaps the reason he shared this, there's no way to know,

  74. is that he would refer back to a war that happened,

  75. the Corinthian War in roughly 397 B.C.,

  76. where their strongholds were destroyed, many of them,

  77. where they were in an intense battle for a period of time.

  78. Whether Paul had that in mind or not,

  79. the illustration stands strong and allows us to see some insight

  80. into this war that we have against our enemy,

  81. our arch enemy, the devil, Satan,

  82. and his kingdom, the dark kingdom.

  83. So Paul says, yes, we walk in the flesh,

  84. but we don't war with human wisdom.

  85. We don't use human techniques.

  86. We war in a different way.

  87. We don't war according to the way men war.

  88. He goes on to say, the weapons of our warfare are not this, but this.

  89. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh,

  90. but they're this, they're divine.

  91. We wage war not in our own strength,

  92. but we rely on the strength of another.

  93. Christian, you and I would see what he's talking about.

  94. We rely on the strength of the Holy Spirit in this war.

  95. Paul relied on the strength of the Holy Spirit.

  96. In chapter 2 of 1 Corinthians,

  97. when Paul was talking about ministry with them

  98. and reminding them of when he came to Corinth with the gospel message,

  99. you understand that the gospel was not prevalent.

  100. In this region of the world,

  101. that Paul in his missionary journeys was taking the gospel

  102. to those who didn't understand salvation,

  103. to those who didn't understand their sin and their separation from God,

  104. to those who didn't know why Jesus came

  105. and maybe had never heard the name of Jesus the Messiah before.

  106. And Paul says this to the Corinthians.

  107. He says,

  108. And when I came to you, brothers,

  109. I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God

  110. with lofty speech or wisdom.

  111. For I decided to know nothing among you

  112. except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

  113. And I was with you in weakness and in fear

  114. and in much trembling,

  115. and my speech and my message

  116. were not with enticing words of wisdom,

  117. but in demonstration of the Spirit and power,

  118. so that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men,

  119. but in the power of God.

  120. Paul was not trying to use wisdom and clever words

  121. to share with them the need of Christ.

  122. He says He came to them with this simple message,

  123. the message of the gospel.

  124. The message of their sin and their separation,

  125. their need for a Savior.

  126. Looking back at the passage in 2 Corinthians,

  127. he says this,

  128. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh,

  129. but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

  130. This morning, I want to look at this passage

  131. from two different angles,

  132. from two different perspectives.

  133. When we talk about war,

  134. we talk about often one entity or one nation

  135. or one person or one group against another.

  136. And in this war, it's the same.

  137. We talk about those who are in war

  138. against the enemy, that is Satan.

  139. Paul says that he's in war.

  140. He says our warfare, our fight

  141. against the dark kingdom

  142. is not something that can be accomplished

  143. with human ability.

  144. I want to look first from the perspective of Satan,

  145. from the perspective of the dark kingdom.

  146. And I think it would be helpful for us

  147. to look at another passage.

  148. And that passage is a common, familiar passage

  149. probably to most of y'all.

  150. It's Ephesians chapter 6.

    Ephesians 6 chapter mention

  151. Paul, again, is sharing with the church at Ephesus

  152. about this battle, this war,

  153. this real spiritual conflict

  154. that touches all of us.

  155. You can turn there if you like.

  156. No need to turn there for sake of time.

  157. Chapter 6 says this.

  158. He's talking to the church, Christians.

  159. He says,

  160. finally, be strong in the Lord

  161. and in the strength of His might.

  162. And I would note here,

  163. he's not telling them to be strong

  164. in their own power,

  165. their own ability,

  166. their own wisdom,

  167. their own strength.

  168. He's saying be strong in the Lord.

  169. There is a means by which we fight

  170. that's not our own ability.

  171. There's a means by which we fight this war

  172. that is spiritual.

  173. He goes on to say,

  174. put on the whole armor of God

  175. that you may be able to stand

  176. against the schemes of the devil.

  177. Do you know that the devil has schemes?

  178. You know what Satan is planning?

  179. I don't think any of us really know all the details,

  180. but we can get the general outline

  181. by reading Scripture.

  182. From Satan's perspective,

  183. what he's attempting to do

  184. in the lives of those who don't know Christ,

  185. like me when I was young

  186. and all those years,

  187. 20-something years in church,

  188. he's attempting to do what he shares

  189. in 2 Corinthians 4.

  190. It says this.

  191. It says,

  192. the God of this world,

  193. i.e. Satan,

  194. the God of this world

  195. has blinded the minds of unbelievers.

  196. He's blinded the minds of unbelievers.

  197. What is the methodology of Satan?

  198. His methodology is to blind the eyes

  199. of those who don't understand,

  200. who don't know,

  201. who don't recognize their sin,

  202. their separation,

  203. their need for a Savior.

  204. He said he's blinded the minds of unbelievers,

  205. not the eyes.

  206. I want us to see he's blinding the mind

  207. of unbelievers

  208. to keep them from seeing the light of what?

  209. The gospel of the glory of God.

  210. What does Satan do in the lives of those

  211. who are not in the kingdom?

  212. You know what he does?

  213. He blinds them.

  214. He doesn't want them to hear

  215. the gospel message.

  216. He doesn't want it to hear it in their ears

  217. and he doesn't want them specifically

  218. to hear it in their heart.

  219. How is he going to accomplish that?

  220. How does he blind?

  221. Well, we turn back to chapter 10,

  222. our passage this morning.

  223. How does he blind?

  224. The eyes of those who don't know Jesus,

  225. who don't understand the gospel message.

  226. Here's an interesting look

  227. in our passage this morning.

  228. He establishes,

  229. Satan establishes strongholds in their life.

  230. So we look at this military language

  231. and we envision a walled city,

  232. a stronghold.

  233. So when someone comes to fight against a stronghold,

  234. they come up against a fortress,

  235. a walled city.

  236. And how is it we're going to take that walled city?

  237. With great difficulty, correct?

  238. In this case,

  239. the illustration Paul is trying to represent here

  240. is this,

  241. is that Satan causes people to believe lies.

  242. He establishes a thought process in their mind

  243. that keeps them from hearing

  244. and understanding the word of God.

  245. Look at the next verse, if you will.

  246. Paul explains a little further

  247. what these strongholds are.

  248. He says,

  249. we, that is those of us who minister the gospel,

  250. those of us that are taking the gospel

  251. to the lost world,

  252. to the places that have never heard it before.

  253. We destroy arguments and lofty opinions.

  254. A way of thinking that's not biblical,

  255. a way of thinking that's not true.

  256. It's based on lies.

  257. It's based on fallacies.

  258. We destroy arguments

  259. and every lofty opinion

  260. raised against the knowledge of God.

  261. You know what Satan would say?

  262. There is no God.

  263. Are you kidding?

  264. And God's good anyway.

  265. God will forgive you all.

  266. All of you will be in heaven.

  267. You're fine.

  268. You don't have to worry about that.

  269. Just live life.

  270. There's probably hundreds and hundreds of angles

  271. that Satan uses to propagate the lies

  272. and establish the stronghold

  273. in our lives.

  274. It's like a fortress.

  275. They hear the gospel like I heard the gospel

  276. and it just goes right over.

  277. They don't really hear it.

  278. They don't understand it.

  279. And Satan wants to build up

  280. these strongholds of lies

  281. in the minds of unbelievers.

  282. But what does Satan do with Christians?

  283. Do you realize that all of us

  284. were in that condition?

  285. That all of us were lost?

  286. That all of us were unbelievers?

  287. That all of us were separated from God?

  288. But by the grace of God

  289. and His mercy,

  290. we have received salvation.

  291. Many of us have come to know

  292. our need for a Savior.

  293. Many of us have seen our own sin

  294. by the grace of God.

  295. What did He do?

  296. He illuminated our understanding.

  297. So all those years,

  298. 22 years I'm living,

  299. I didn't see my sin

  300. for what it really was.

  301. I didn't think I was separated from God.

  302. I thought for sure I was in the kingdom.

  303. When God opened my eyes

  304. to see the depth of my sin

  305. and the reality that my sin

  306. had caused me to be separated from God,

  307. I was absolutely shocked.

  308. blown away that I wasn't a Christian.

  309. How did that happen?

  310. You know, all of us are there.

  311. Do you realize all of us

  312. have a misunderstanding

  313. about who we really are?

  314. We have a misunderstanding.

  315. We don't really understand

  316. our separation from God.

  317. We don't really understand His holiness.

  318. Why?

  319. It's because all this

  320. stronghold of lies,

  321. this stronghold of belief

  322. that's not according to truth

  323. is where we've lived.

  324. And by the grace of God,

  325. He's shined His light.

  326. What is the light?

  327. It's the gospel.

  328. It's the truth.

  329. He's shined the light.

  330. You know what happens

  331. when lies are exposed to truth?

  332. Poof, they're gone.

  333. It exposes the lies.

  334. This lie that I'm good,

  335. in good standing with God,

  336. when the truth came

  337. and I saw my sin,

  338. I realized that was a lie.

  339. The Holy Spirit

  340. illuminated my understanding,

  341. opened my eyes

  342. that I might see

  343. that I really, truly

  344. was separated from God.

  345. And you know what I did?

  346. I bowed my knee

  347. in a third floor room

  348. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina,

  349. a place I'd never been in my life,

  350. the house of someone

  351. I'd never met in all my life.

  352. By the grace of God,

  353. I got on my knee,

  354. I said,

  355. God, forgive me.

  356. I didn't know I was a sinner.

  357. I didn't know,

  358. at least I didn't know

  359. you saw me as a sinner.

  360. Yeah, I had these secrets

  361. that I didn't want anybody

  362. to know about

  363. during my life.

  364. But I didn't realize

  365. I didn't,

  366. I wasn't in the kingdom.

  367. I didn't realize

  368. I wasn't going to heaven.

  369. I didn't realize

  370. I wasn't your child.

  371. I didn't realize

  372. that I wasn't forgiven.

  373. I didn't realize God.

  374. By the grace of God,

  375. he opened our eyes to see.

  376. You know, Satan doesn't want

  377. your eyes to be opened.

  378. But some of us

  379. are in the kingdom now.

  380. You know the call

  381. to the church?

  382. He says,

  383. go.

  384. All authority,

  385. Jesus says,

  386. all authority is given to me.

  387. Now go

  388. and proclaim my gospel

  389. and teach them.

  390. Baptize them

  391. and teach them

  392. to obey everything

  393. that I've commanded you.

  394. Take the gospel

  395. to the far corners

  396. of the earth.

  397. Start in your neighborhood.

  398. Start in your town.

  399. Wherever I lead you,

  400. go and take the gospel.

  401. with you.

  402. And what's the impact

  403. going to be?

  404. You know,

  405. Satan can't stop

  406. the spread of the gospel.

  407. You know why?

  408. Because the gospel

  409. exposes a lie.

  410. Satan's method is what?

  411. To establish strongholds,

  412. arguments,

  413. lofty opinions,

  414. philosophies

  415. that are not

  416. according to truth.

  417. And you know,

  418. we by nature

  419. grab them

  420. and believe.

  421. What does it take

  422. for the lies

  423. to be exposed?

  424. The light of the gospel.

  425. The light of God's word.

  426. You know what

  427. they don't need?

  428. They don't need

  429. all these fancy arguments.

  430. You know what Paul said?

  431. I just read it.

  432. He says,

  433. I decided to know nothing

  434. among them

  435. except Jesus Christ

  436. and Him crucified.

  437. You know what someone

  438. who's not in the kingdom

  439. needs to hear?

  440. The gospel.

  441. You know the call

  442. of God to Christians?

  443. Take the gospel.

  444. How does Satan

  445. fight against you and me?

  446. You know what he uses

  447. the same way?

  448. I go back to Ephesians,

  449. this parallel passage,

  450. and I want you to listen

  451. to what Satan uses

  452. against Christians.

  453. So,

  454. he's talking to Christians

  455. here in Ephesians 6.

  456. He's talking to the Christians

  457. in Ephesus.

  458. And he's saying to them,

  459. fight.

  460. He said in chapter 5,

  461. walk in love.

  462. He says,

  463. walk not as unwise,

  464. but wise.

  465. Christian,

  466. you are called

  467. to live in a way

  468. that is in accordance

  469. with wisdom

  470. and with humility

  471. and with love.

  472. And he's saying to them

  473. that there's a battle.

  474. And you're not going

  475. to be very effective

  476. in this battle

  477. and this war

  478. unless you

  479. understand

  480. how it's fought.

  481. So,

  482. if I ask you a question

  483. right now,

  484. church,

  485. do you know

  486. how to fight

  487. this battle?

  488. Do you know

  489. how to be

  490. successful

  491. in this war?

  492. Listen,

  493. it's,

  494. when you're

  495. talking to people

  496. that are not

  497. in the kingdom,

  498. that's one thing,

  499. but when it's happening

  500. in your own heart

  501. and your own life,

  502. how do you fight?

  503. How do you stand?

  504. Listen to the word here.

  505. He says,

  506. put on the whole armor

  507. of God.

  508. I'm not thirsty,

  509. I really am not.

  510. And I think

  511. Jonathan's had his lips

  512. on that one,

  513. so I'm not going to,

  514. I'm not going to drink

  515. that one.

  516. So,

  517. he says,

  518. put on the whole armor

  519. of God

  520. that you may be able

  521. to stand against

  522. the schemes

  523. of the devil.

  524. What are schemes?

  525. Do you know?

  526. Listen,

  527. how are we going to fight

  528. against the dark kingdom

  529. if we don't know

  530. the schemes?

  531. Do you know the schemes?

  532. Do you know what Satan does?

  533. Do you know his methodology?

  534. We would turn to many,

  535. many passages

  536. and here's what we'd see.

  537. You know,

  538. Satan is a tempter.

  539. He's going to tempt you

  540. to dishonor God.

  541. He's going to tempt you

  542. to walk in sin.

  543. He's going to tempt you

  544. to pursue the flesh.

  545. And what is the flesh?

  546. We turn to Galatians 5.

  547. I'm not going to turn there,

  548. but it's sexual promiscuity.

  549. It's anger.

  550. It's wrath.

  551. It's sorcery.

  552. It's chasing after things

  553. of this world,

  554. flesh, self.

  555. You can read Galatians 5 later.

  556. You can read Romans 10 later

  557. and you'll see what the Word says

  558. about walking after the flesh.

  559. But the call of God

  560. to His children

  561. is to walk according

  562. to the Spirit,

  563. to walk in step

  564. with the Spirit,

  565. that the fruit of the Spirit

  566. might be evident in our life.

  567. So here we go.

  568. The schemes of the devil.

  569. Deception.

  570. He wants to propagate lies.

  571. Do you think that Satan

  572. still lies to you and me

  573. as Christians?

  574. Do you think he throws lies our way?

  575. How do you handle it?

  576. Remember,

  577. what is it that causes lies

  578. to disappear,

  579. to be broken,

  580. to be shattered?

  581. It's truth.

  582. How do you war

  583. when all these lies

  584. come into your ears?

  585. How do you war?

  586. You war with truth.

  587. How often do you hear

  588. untruths,

  589. lies that come to you

  590. and say,

  591. whoa, whoa, whoa,

  592. that's not right.

  593. No, no, no, no.

  594. How often does the Word of God

  595. come up in your mind

  596. and you say,

  597. no, no, no, no.

  598. I don't believe that.

  599. I don't accept that.

  600. I reject that.

  601. That's not true.

  602. Deception.

  603. Temptation.

  604. He wants you

  605. to be on the sideline

  606. in this war,

  607. in this battle,

  608. in this mission

  609. that he's called us to,

  610. to take the gospel

  611. to the lost and dying world.

  612. He doesn't want you

  613. to be effective.

  614. And how is it

  615. he's going to keep you,

  616. Christian,

  617. from being effective?

  618. He's going to cause you

  619. to live in sin,

  620. to live in lies.

  621. The temptations

  622. are going to draw you away

  623. from God's honor

  624. and God's call in your life.

  625. And he's going to accuse you.

  626. Three things.

  627. Temptation,

  628. deception,

  629. and accusation

  630. are the main methodologies

  631. of Satan

  632. against the church,

  633. against Christians.

  634. Revelation chapter 12,

    Revelation 12 chapter mention

  635. it's a story

  636. and it talks about

  637. a dragon

  638. and it talks about

  639. a woman

  640. and it talks about

  641. a child.

  642. And it's,

  643. in this story

  644. in chapter 12,

  645. the dragon is Satan

  646. and the child

  647. is a church

  648. and the,

  649. excuse me,

  650. the woman is a church

  651. and the child is Jesus.

  652. And you can read the story

  653. but the end of the story

  654. is very revealing

  655. in verse 17,

  656. the last verse

  657. in chapter 12

  658. of Revelation.

  659. It says this,

  660. Then the dragon,

  661. that is Satan,

  662. became furious

  663. with the woman,

  664. that's the church,

  665. and went off

  666. to make war

  667. with the rest

  668. of her offspring.

  669. Satan,

  670. the dragon,

  671. went off

  672. to make war

  673. with the rest

  674. of her offspring.

  675. Who are offspring?

  676. Those who keep

  677. the commands of God

  678. and hold

  679. to the testimony

  680. of Jesus.

  681. Church,

  682. let me just say,

  683. whether you're aware

  684. of it or not,

  685. there is a war

  686. that's going on

  687. and you as a Christian

  688. are in the middle of it.

  689. And Satan

  690. is after you.

  691. But greater

  692. is he that is in you

  693. than he that is in the world.

  694. Amen?

  695. Greater

  696. is the Holy Spirit,

  697. greater is he

  698. that is in you

  699. than he that is in the world.

  700. Satan

  701. doesn't stand

  702. a chance

  703. when truth

  704. exposes the lies.

  705. You know,

  706. we don't fight

  707. in human ways.

  708. If we fought

  709. in human ways,

  710. we might be full

  711. of fear.

  712. We don't fight

  713. in human ways.

  714. Ephesians 6

  715. says this,

  716. We do not wrestle

  717. against flesh

  718. and blood,

  719. but against rulers,

  720. against the authorities,

  721. against the cosmic powers

  722. over this present darkness,

  723. against the spiritual

  724. forces

  725. of evil

  726. in the heavenly places.

  727. You know,

  728. we are in a

  729. genuine battle

  730. with the satanic kingdom,

  731. with the demonic world.

  732. And he says,

  733. therefore,

  734. take up the whole

  735. armor of God.

  736. Don't take up

  737. your own strength,

  738. your own wisdom,

  739. your own ability.

  740. Take up the armor

  741. of God.

  742. Why?

  743. That you may be able

  744. to withstand

  745. an evil day

  746. and to stand firm.

  747. And the call is this,

  748. is then take

  749. the helmet of salvation

  750. and the sword

  751. of the Spirit,

  752. which is the word of God,

  753. praying at all times

  754. in the Spirit

  755. with all prayer

  756. and supplication.

  757. To that end,

  758. keep alert

  759. in this battle.

  760. You know,

  761. Satan desires

  762. to devour.

  763. Satan,

  764. like a roaring lion,

  765. is seeking

  766. whom he may devour.

  767. You know he's

  768. after Christians?

  769. Back to our passage.

  770. The perspective

  771. of Satan

  772. is to destroy,

  773. to kill.

  774. I want to look at it

  775. from a different perspective.

  776. That's the perspective

  777. of Paul.

  778. You know what

  779. Paul sees here?

  780. He sees people

  781. that hadn't yet heard

  782. the gospel,

  783. that hadn't come

  784. into the kingdom.

  785. And what is he doing?

  786. He is going.

  787. As God has instructed him

  788. to go,

  789. he's going.

  790. He's taking the gospel

  791. to the lost and dying world.

  792. And what does he understand?

  793. That the enemy

  794. has sold them

  795. this lie

  796. and they've latched

  797. onto it

  798. and they believe it.

  799. And so what does he take

  800. as he goes

  801. to the lost and dying world?

  802. He takes the gospel.

  803. He takes the gospel.

  804. He takes the truth

  805. of God's word

  806. and he destroys

  807. the arguments

  808. and the lofty opinion

  809. raised against

  810. the knowledge of God.

  811. How does he do that

  812. with the truth?

  813. What does the truth do?

  814. It exposes lies.

  815. Church,

  816. you know

  817. when we're sharing

  818. the gospel,

  819. what are we sharing?

  820. We're not sharing

  821. our opinion,

  822. our thoughts.

  823. We're sharing God's word.

  824. It's needful

  825. for us to know

  826. God's word

  827. that we,

  828. like Paul,

  829. would see this battle

  830. that the battle

  831. is against the light.

  832. The real true battle

  833. is Satan

  834. in the dark kingdom

  835. against the kingdom

  836. of light.

  837. And who's a part

  838. of the kingdom of light?

  839. Us,

  840. Christians.

  841. Do you think

  842. God can destroy Satan

  843. with a word of his mouth?

  844. You think he can destroy

  845. him right now,

  846. just boom,

  847. he's done?

  848. You bet he can.

  849. But by God's providence,

  850. he's allowed you and me

  851. to be involved

  852. in this eternal thing,

  853. this taking of the gospel

  854. to the nations.

  855. It's our great privilege

  856. to do it

  857. and that he would use us

  858. in this call

  859. of ministry,

  860. of what he's doing

  861. in the lives of people.

  862. I love the verse here.

  863. It says,

  864. he's destroying strongholds.

  865. Paul,

  866. as he's looking at those

  867. who aren't in the kingdom,

  868. destroying strongholds,

  869. these arguments,

  870. these lies

  871. that are not according

  872. to truth.

  873. And how's he doing?

  874. He's taking the truth,

  875. the gospel to them

  876. so they might understand

  877. and taking captive

  878. every thought.

  879. So have y'all ever

  880. tried to do that?

  881. In this battle

  882. against the dark kingdom,

  883. do you take account

  884. of your thoughts?

  885. Do you know how

  886. this battle is fought?

  887. Again,

  888. I ask the question,

  889. how is this battle fought?

  890. It's a fault

  891. against the lies.

  892. The truth is what

  893. exposes them.

  894. You shall know the truth

  895. and the truth

  896. shall set you free.

  897. And we'll end on this

  898. as Paul's perspective

  899. to fellow believers.

  900. So Paul's perspective

  901. to those who aren't

  902. in the kingdom,

  903. take the truth,

  904. share the truth,

  905. help them to understand

  906. the truth,

  907. expose the lies,

  908. and it isn't going to happen

  909. without the power of God.

  910. And to the Christians,

  911. he says this,

  912. if you sneak over

  913. in chapter 11,

  914. verse 3,

  915. it says this,

  916. as Paul is speaking

  917. to the Corinthian church,

  918. he says this,

  919. but I'm afraid

  920. that as the serpent

  921. deceived Eve

  922. by his cunning,

  923. your thoughts

  924. will be led astray

  925. from the sincere

  926. and pure devotion

  927. to Christ.

  928. When I was younger,

  929. I played a lot of golf.

  930. I still play a little bit.

  931. My heart,

  932. my goal at the time,

  933. as sinful as it was,

  934. to be really,

  935. really good at golf.

  936. And briefly,

  937. I would say this,

  938. that the challenge in golf

  939. is not learning

  940. how to swing real well.

  941. There's a lot of people

  942. that swing well.

  943. And if you do it

  944. a million times

  945. and you duplicate it

  946. a million times,

  947. the ball tends to go

  948. where it's supposed to go.

  949. You know,

  950. the challenge is this,

  951. is when I get up

  952. on the tee box

  953. and I look at the problems,

  954. the trap,

  955. and the pond,

  956. and the out-of-bounds.

  957. I don't know

  958. if y'all play golf

  959. and know what those things are,

  960. but I'm hitting a golf ball

  961. and I'm trying to keep it

  962. on the grass, okay?

  963. I don't want it to go

  964. on those other things

  965. because there's penalties involved.

  966. Do you know the difficulty

  967. is not in being able

  968. to hit it?

  969. Because I can go on the range

  970. during practice

  971. and I can just hit them

  972. just boom,

  973. boom,

  974. boom,

  975. boom.

  976. Straight,

  977. long,

  978. make them curve this way,

  979. that way could do a lot,

  980. but when I get up on the tee,

  981. you know what the problem is?

  982. This.

  983. The mind is the problem.

  984. I get up

  985. and I'm looking,

  986. I'm here,

  987. I'm like,

  988. all right,

  989. there's a pond over there.

  990. The problem is

  991. my mind is focusing

  992. on those things,

  993. focusing on the problems,

  994. focusing on the danger,

  995. and my body is not able

  996. to do what it should do.

  997. You know the hard thing

  998. about golf?

  999. You see it in the pros too.

1000. If you watch any golf

  1001. on TV,

  1002. especially in majors,

1003. and the pros are getting

  1004. close last day,

1005. they're near or on top

  1006. of the leaderboard,

1007. near the top of the leaderboard,

  1008. and what happens?

  1009. You see these guys

1010. that are doing it for a living

  1011. that are incredible golfers,

  1012. and what happens?

  1013. They fold.

  1014. Why?

  1015. Because there's a battle

1016. going on in the mind.

  1017. It is difficult

  1018. to remain focused

  1019. when I'm trying

  1020. to play golf.

  1021. Let me just say,

  1022. church,

  1023. you know the battle,

  1024. the spiritual battles

  1025. in the mind?

  1026. You know what Satan

  1027. is going to do

  1028. to you and me?

1029. He's going to tempt us.

1030. He's going to accuse us.

1031. He's going to deceive us

1032. so that we are on the sidelines.

1033. And Paul says to them,

  1034. he says,

1035. I'm worried that your thoughts

  1036. will be led astray

  1037. from sincere

1038. and pure devotion to Christ.

  1039. Are we willing

1040. to take every thought captive?

  1041. That's the call,

  1042. church,

  1043. that we would take

  1044. every thought captive

  1045. and make it obedience

  1046. to Christ,

  1047. that we would walk

  1048. in obedience

  1049. to Him.

  1050. Let's pray.

  1051. Father,

1052. thank You for Your Word.

  1053. Lord,

  1054. we confess that

  1055. Father,

  1056. we're weak.

  1057. In many ways,

  1058. we're weak

1059. in that we can be deceived

  1060. by the enemy.

  1061. We can believe lies.

  1062. Father,

  1063. many times,

  1064. we're weak

  1065. because we give

  1066. in to temptations

  1067. and the lust

  1068. of this world.

  1069. God,

  1070. and in a sense,

  1071. we're sidelined.

  1072. Father,

  1073. I'm grateful,

  1074. like Jonathan mentioned

  1075. earlier,

  1076. is that Father,

  1077. You say that You're

  1078. faithful and just

  1079. to forgive us

  1080. of our sins

1081. if we will confess to You.

  1082. So Father,

1083. I pray that You would help us

  1084. to live a life

  1085. of confession

  1086. because truly,

  1087. God,

  1088. we are weak.

  1089. We're so weak,

  1090. Father.

  1091. We try to walk

  1092. in our own strength.

1093. I pray that You would

  1094. teach us to walk

  1095. in Your strength,

  1096. that we would not

  1097. be sidelined

  1098. with these sins

  1099. that we allow

  1100. in our life.

  1101. God,

1102. that You would give us

  1103. strength to be faithful

  1104. to You.

  1105. And God,

1106. I pray that You would

  1107. empower Your Word

  1108. so that many people

1109. would come into the kingdom.

  1110. God,

  1111. take us,

  1112. Your church,

  1113. I should say,

  1114. send us,

  1115. God,

  1116. Your church,

  1117. to people that we

  1118. come in contact with

  1119. with the gospel message

1120. that they need to hear

  1121. the gospel,

  1122. Father,

  1123. so their ears

  1124. could be opened,

1125. they would not be blind,

  1126. God,

1127. I pray that You would

1128. use us in Your kingdom.

1129. I pray in Your name.

  1130. Amen.
