  1. Well, this morning I get the privilege to preach, and the subject is beautiful.

  2. ! I get to preach about the triumphal entry of Jesus our King, Palm Sunday.

  3. We have heard already, and we'll read it again, believe it or not, in the New Testament.

  4. We've heard already the story, the New Testament story out of the book of Matthew

  5. of the entrance of Jesus into the city of Jerusalem as a King,

  6. announcing Himself to the Jewish nation as the King, acknowledging that He is the Messiah.

  7. But this morning, we're going to actually have a text out of the Old Testament.

  8. I'll be preaching out of the book of Zechariah.

  9. This morning, in one verse, is going to be the focus of our time this morning.

  10. We'll look at the context.

  11. Next, I'll talk about that, but predominantly, we're going to look at the one verse in Zechariah 9.

  12. And if you don't know where that's located, if you go to the Matthew and you go backwards two books,

  13. you'll be at Zechariah.

  14. So I would ask, if you will, to open a Bible.

  15. If you don't have your own, there's Bibles in the seat back in front of you

  16. or in the tray underneath the seat.

  17. We'd encourage you to open the Scriptures this morning.

  18. We will look at more than just the one verse.

  19. It would be good to be able to glance at that.

  20. So if you're physically able to stand,

  21. I would ask you to stand in honor of the reading of God's Word this morning out of Zechariah 9.

  22. Let's pray one more time.

  23. Let's pray one more time.

  24. God, would you make this truth come alive.

  25. Would you move us to rejoicing that, Father, we too this morning would sing of your great mercies that you've given to us.

  26. And I pray in your name.

  27. Amen.

  28. Y'all can have a seat.

  29. Well, I've said this before and I'll say it again.

  30. It's not right to cherry pick one verse out of a book in the Old Testament from a prophet

  31. and not paint the picture of the context that we're reading it from.

  32. So I want to take a couple of minutes and talk about the time frame of this message that was given by God

  33. through the prophet Zechariah to the people of God that lived roughly 500 years before Christ was born.

  34. So if you will think about the history of the Jewish nation,

  35. you would remember that they were gifted by God the promised land.

  36. And because of unfaithfulness, they were conquered.

  37. The northern tribe was conquered by the Assyrian kingdom

  38. and they were distributed never to be seen again as a gathering of people.

  39. They were taken and splashed around the kingdom of the Assyrian empire.

  40. And then in 586 BC, Nebuchadnezzar came and destroyed the southern kingdom

  41. and deported most of the people to Babylon.

  42. He left some, but most of them were deported to Babylon

  43. and they were there for 70 years until the time of Cyrus, the Persian king.

  44. So the Babylonian kingdom was destroyed by the Medo-Persian empire.

  45. And when Cyrus was made king, he declared to the Jewish people

  46. that they were free to go back to Israel.

  47. And a small remnant of the nation of Israel chose to go back.

  48. It was roughly 50,000 that made the long journey back to Israel.

  49. And they were intending to rebuild the temple and they started to do that.

  50. But because of the fear of the people around them, they stopped.

  51. Until Zerubbabel was moved by God to do that, to begin to rebuild the temple.

  52. And that is the time we find ourselves in the life of the nation of Israel.

  53. God raised up two prophets.

  54. One of those prophets was Zechariah.

  55. And Zechariah is speaking to the people during that time frame

  56. when they're small in number in Israel

  57. and they've got all the people around them that do not want them to rebuild that nation.

  58. They do not want them to rebuild the temple.

  59. And so Zechariah prophesies.

  60. The first eight chapters in the book of Zechariah is his prophecy to the people of that time.

  61. It was meant for them in that time frame.

  62. And then in chapter 9, there's a transition.

  63. You see the first verse of chapter 9.

  64. It says,

  65. The oracle of the word of the Lord.

  66. This is a transition that from chapter 9 to the rest of the book,

  67. Zechariah is prophesying about the future.

  68. He's prophesying about what will come to pass

  69. after all of these people have passed away.

  70. And it's real interesting, this text in chapter 9, what he's prophesying.

  71. He's talking about in chapter 9 verses 1 through 8,

  72. he's talking about a king.

  73. And this king is a great conquering king and he's on conquest.

  74. And as you study the book of Zechariah,

  75. you will learn that he's talking about Alexander the Great.

  76. If you were to follow the exploits of Alexander the Great

  77. and you see the path that he took along the Mediterranean in this area,

  78. that he came from the northeast and he came down toward Tyre.

  79. And if you look, if you were to read this and study it,

  80. it talks about Tyre and Zidon.

  81. It talks about Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron.

  82. These are cities that are along the Mediterranean.

  83. It also talks about, in verse 8,

  84. it talks about Alexander the Great coming to Jerusalem.

  85. And it's a fabulous story to chase and see how God protected them from Alexander the Great.

  86. These other cities were destroyed and yet Jerusalem was preserved.

  87. And we see the prophecy of that truth here.

  88. It's fascinating.

  89. And then in verse 9, we see a change.

  90. So you have Alexander the Great, the conquering king on conquest.

  91. We see here a message that there's another king and another conquest.

  92. And so we read about this king.

  93. And if we read on through the rest of the chapter,

  94. not only do we get to know about him in verse 9,

  95. which is where we will spend our time here in a few minutes,

  96. we get to know about him,

  97. but we also get to know what he did or what he's prophesied that he will do.

  98. This is a prophecy that was given in roughly 500 B.C.,

  99. specifically 520 B.C. is what we believe.

  100. And it talks about, if you look quickly at verse 10

  101. and following the rest of the chapter,

  102. you're going to see something very interesting about this king.

  103. And it's God speaking,

  104. I will cut off chariot and war horse and battle bow.

  105. I will cut him off from my nation.

  106. And I shall speak peace, or he shall, that is this coming king,

  107. will speak peace to the nations.

  108. Interesting.

  109. That this is a king who's coming with peace.

  110. And if you keep looking,

  111. there's something in verse 11 about a covenant.

  112. A covenant associated with blood.

  113. Interesting.

  114. Interesting.

  115. He says,

  116. because of the blood of my covenant with you,

  117. I will set the prisoners free from the waterless pit.

  118. Interesting.

  119. This king is doing something different than Alexander the Great.

  120. This conquest is much different than what Alexander the Great did.

  121. He destroyed.

  122. Yet this king seems to be bringing peace.

  123. He seems to be bringing something different,

  124. setting prisoners free.

  125. In verse 12, there's hope that's talked about.

  126. He talks about in 13 that he's going to use his people

  127. as if they were a bow and an arrow.

  128. He talks about the Ephraim in the area of land above Jerusalem.

  129. He talks about Judah.

  130. So the Judah being the southern portion.

  131. He talks about using them as a bow and arrow as a weapon.

  132. He's using his people as a weapon.

  133. What type of weapon is he talking about?

  134. We want to look at that.

  135. We see that in verse 15 that there is going to be bloodshed.

  136. But it's different.

  137. There's a message here that is difficult perhaps to understand.

  138. As we read this, it's like, all right, who is this king?

  139. Now, some of you may never have read

  140. or at least never have studied the book of Zechariah.

  141. And you might wonder, who is it talking about?

  142. Though I've never studied the book, there is a ring in my ear.

  143. I've heard this somewhere before.

  144. Well, we've heard it because we read it this morning

  145. in one passage in Matthew.

  146. And I want to read it again.

  147. And I want you to listen to who the New Testament says

  148. this king actually is.

  149. So we read the Old Testament prophecy

  150. and we wonder, who is this?

  151. And then we come to the New Testament

  152. and it answers the question for us.

  153. No longer do we have to wonder who that king is

  154. out of Zechariah chapter 9

    Zechariah 9 chapter mention

  155. because Matthew and Mark and Luke and John,

  156. they tell us exactly who this king is.

  157. Specifically, there's two places

  158. verse 9 is quoted in the New Testament.

  159. First is in Matthew.

  160. Listen again to what was read earlier this morning.

  161. Now when they drew near to Jerusalem

  162. and came to Bethpage,

  163. we all pronounce that word different.

  164. I don't know how it's really pronounced,

  165. but that's the way I'll say it.

  166. To Bethpage, to the Mount of Olives.

  167. And Jesus sent two disciples saying to them,

  168. go into the village in front of you

  169. and immediately you'll find a donkey tied in a colt with her.

  170. Untie them and bring them to me.

  171. If anyone says anything to you,

  172. you shall say the Lord needs them

  173. and he will send them at once.

  174. This took place to fulfill.

  175. I will stop there.

  176. To fulfill what was spoken by the prophet.

  177. Which prophet?

  178. Zechariah.

  179. Zechariah said there's a king coming

  180. and Matthew just said,

  181. here's when it happened.

  182. This is the moment that was spoken of by Zechariah.

  183. This is the fulfillment of the promise

  184. that he gave about this coming king.

  185. And notice what it says about this king.

  186. Say to the daughter of Zion.

  187. Zion is a term that refers to the people of God.

  188. In essence, say to the people of God,

  189. behold your king.

  190. Now you know, and we've talked about this,

  191. that the people were expecting an earthly king

  192. to have an earthly reign and an earthly ministry.

  193. So they would hear this in Zechariah

  194. and they had an expectation

  195. that there was going to be conquering.

  196. And there was, but not in the way they thought.

  197. Behold, your king is coming to you.

  198. He is humble.

  199. And he's mounted on a donkey on a colt,

  200. the foal of a beast of burden.

  201. That is the prophecy of Zechariah 9.

  202. And there's no question who's being spoken of here.

  203. Because we read right below it

  204. and it tells us that this is talking about Jesus.

  205. And so we look, the disciples went and did

  206. as Jesus had directed.

  207. They brought the donkey and the colt

  208. and put on them their cloaks and he sat on them.

  209. Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road

  210. and others cut branches from the trees

  211. and spread them on the road.

  212. And the crowds that went before him

  213. and those that followed him were shouting,

  214. Hosanna to the son of David.

  215. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

  216. And the whole city was stirred saying,

  217. Who is this?

  218. And they said,

  219. This is the prophet Jesus.

  220. How clear could it be?

  221. How much clearer could it be

  222. to know that Zechariah is talking about Jesus?

  223. Let's see what John says.

  224. I won't read all of it.

  225. I'll read a little bit of it.

  226. Listen to the book of John

  227. talking about the same event.

  228. The next day,

  229. the large crowd that had come to the feast

  230. heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.

  231. So they took branches of palm trees

  232. and went out to meet him crying,

  233. Hosanna.

  234. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,

  235. even the King of Israel.

  236. Even then,

  237. they're acknowledging that he's the King of Israel.

  238. Well, if you were a Jew,

  239. you would understand what that meant.

  240. That meant that he's the Messiah.

  241. And Jesus found a young donkey

  242. and sat on it,

  243. just as it was written,

  244. Fear not, daughter of Zion.

  245. Behold, your King is coming,

  246. sitting on a donkey's colt.

  247. And I could read more there about that process.

  248. But I want you to hear this.

  249. There is absolutely no question

  250. who Zechariah is referring to

  251. as we look at this Old Testament prophecy.

  252. He says,

  253. there's coming a day,

  254. he doesn't tell how many years,

  255. but there's coming a day.

  256. We know that it was roughly 500 plus years.

  257. And Jesus came as that King.

  258. Well, this morning,

  259. I want us to focus the rest of our time

  260. on verse 9.

  261. And there's five points

  262. I want you to see this morning

  263. out of verse 9.

  264. Five points.

  265. And the first is this.

  266. If you'll look at verse 9.

  267. Rejoice greatly.

  268. Rejoice greatly.

  269. This is a time for incredible rejoicing.

  270. Why?

  271. Why is it a time for rejoicing?

  272. Because your King is coming.

  273. And notice,

  274. I want you to notice

  275. that he specifically talks

  276. about two terms

  277. or a group of people

  278. that would be included

  279. by these phrases,

  280. O daughter of Zion,

  281. O daughter of Jerusalem.

  282. He's saying to these people,

  283. whoever that refers to,

  284. he's saying to them,

  285. this is a time for rejoicing.

  286. Well, if we look back

  287. at the New Testament text

  288. and we look at the actual event

  289. when this was fulfilled,

  290. what do we see?

  291. Do we see a time of rejoicing?

  292. Amazing rejoicing.

  293. They're shouting,

  294. Hosanna.

  295. They're,

  296. they're,

  297. hallelujah.

  298. They're,

  299. they're,

  300. I mean,

  301. they're so honoring him

  302. that they're taking their cloaks,

  303. their clothing,

  304. and they're putting it on the ground

  305. so that not even his donkey gets dirty.

  306. So that they honor him as a king.

  307. It's just a way to,

  308. to,

  309. to honor the triumphal king

  310. as he comes into the city

  311. and proclaim,

  312. you are the Messiah.

  313. We see incredible rejoicing

  314. and that's,

  315. there's call for rejoicing.

  316. But remember how I said that

  317. they were thinking one thing.

  318. As we walk through this,

  319. we're going to see

  320. that what they were thinking

  321. was not what was intended

  322. by the passage.

  323. We're going to see

  324. that the conquering,

  325. this conquering king

  326. is conquering something

  327. much different

  328. than Alexander the Great conquered.

  329. And we'll look at that

  330. as we go along.

  331. Rejoice greatly.

  332. This is a time to shout

  333. and to rejoice

  334. and to be thankful

  335. and to celebrate.

  336. You know,

  337. that would be true

  338. back in those days

  339. when the men went to war,

  340. went off to war,

  341. and they fought

  342. and after the battle,

  343. if they won the battle,

  344. what would they do?

  345. They would take the spoils

  346. and they would take them

  347. into the town.

  348. And so when,

  349. when it's all done

  350. and all the people

  351. that are still back at town,

  352. when the army comes back in,

  353. they ride in

  354. with great procession.

  355. And there's incredible rejoicing.

  356. The excitement

  357. that our men are back,

  358. that they were not defeated,

  359. that we weren't defeated,

  360. that we're safe,

  361. and all the spoils of war

  362. that come along with it,

  363. it is a time of,

  364. of incredible rejoicing

  365. and thankfulness.

  366. And so we see that mirrored here,

  367. this entrance,

  368. we call it

  369. the triumphal entrance,

  370. right?

  371. The triumphal entrance

  372. of a king.

  373. And this king,

  374. Jesus,

  375. has defeated.

  376. And we will see that here

  377. in just a second

  378. as we talk about that.

  379. He is coming into Jerusalem,

  380. he's letting the world know,

  381. he's announcing

  382. that he is the king,

  383. he is the long-awaited king.

  384. You know that

  385. the nation of Israel

  386. has been waiting

  387. and waiting

  388. and waiting

  389. and waiting.

  390. As a seven-year-old kid,

  391. do you remember

  392. waiting for Christmas?

  393. As a guy who works,

  394. you know,

  395. in the marketplace

  396. and you think

  397. December's coming,

  398. I sure hope my bonus

  399. is big this year.

  400. And you wait all year,

  401. you work hard,

  402. looking forward to that.

  403. Many things we wait for,

  404. nothing like this.

  405. For hundreds of years,

  406. they've been waiting for this.

  407. We would know

  408. that

  409. God has said,

  410. even as far back

  411. as Genesis chapter 3,

    Genesis 3 chapter mention

  412. that I will send

  413. a snake crusher.

  414. that gives us a little clue

  415. into what this king

  416. is coming to conquer.

  417. But the word says here,

  418. behold,

  419. your king is coming to you,

  420. this long-awaited king.

  421. We think of Genesis.

  422. We think of what he said to David.

  423. You remember the covenant

  424. he made with David?

  425. He said,

  426. you will always have

  427. on the throne

  428. a king from your line.

  429. You know who he was talking about,

  430. right?

  431. He was talking about Jesus.

  432. This king is in the line of David.

  433. This king is the one

  434. that's from the Lord.

  435. This is the long-promised king.

  436. He has come.

  437. And

  438. where else would we see this

  439. in Scripture?

  440. You know,

  441. so many places

  442. in the Old Testament

  443. point us forward

  444. to what God is doing.

  445. And what is he doing it for?

  446. It's his redemptive plan.

  447. This king is not coming

  448. to fight a physical battle,

  449. to win a physical war,

  450. to set up a physical kingdom.

  451. This king is coming

  452. for a different purpose.

  453. He's coming

  454. as a redeemer.

  455. He's accomplishing

  456. the redemptive plan

  457. of God.

  458. And if

  459. we look

  460. at another

  461. very familiar

  462. passage to us,

  463. we would recognize

  464. this quickly

  465. that it's talking

  466. about Jesus.

  467. We talk about this

  468. at Christmas

  469. a lot.

  470. So listen to what

  471. Isaiah says

  472. about what God

  473. is going to do,

  474. who he's going to send.

  475. Isaiah says this,

  476. for unto us

  477. a child is born,

  478. to us a son

  479. is given,

  480. and the government,

  481. I'll stop there,

  482. the kingdom,

  483. the government

  484. shall be upon

  485. his shoulder

  486. and his name

  487. will be called

  488. Wonderful Counselor,

  489. Mighty God,

  490. Everlasting Father,

  491. Prince of Peace.

  492. Of the increase

  493. of his government

  494. and of peace

  495. there will be no end.

  496. You see why

  497. they thought

  498. it might be

  499. a physical kingdom?

  500. It's talking

  501. about government.

  502. But you remember

  503. what Christ said

  504. about his kingdom?

  505. He said,

  506. my kingdom

  507. is not of this world.

  508. If my kingdom

  509. were of this world,

  510. my servants

  511. would fight,

  512. but my kingdom

  513. is not of this world.

  514. Okay, Jesus,

  515. what is your kingdom?

  516. His kingdom

  517. is a heavenly kingdom.

  518. And in his kingdom,

  519. all the people

  520. that are part

  521. of his kingdom

  522. will be redeemed.

  523. They will be

  524. made right with God.

  525. This is a spiritual conquest.

  526. So we're looking at

  527. the message of Zachariah

  528. and he talks about

  529. a physical conquest

  530. of Alexander the Great,

  531. but he talks about

  532. a spiritual conquest

  533. with this far greater

  534. than anything

  535. Alexander's ever accomplished.

  536. Because the result

  537. of this conquest

  538. is hearts

  539. that are yielded to God.

  540. The results

  541. of this conquest

  542. is people

  543. that are redeemed

  544. and purchased

  545. and given new hearts

  546. and made right

  547. and in relationship

  548. with Almighty God.

  549. They have a hope

  550. of a city,

  551. an eternal city.

  552. And so we continue here,

  553. of the increase

  554. of his government

  555. and of peace

  556. there will be no end,

  557. on the throne of David

  558. and over his kingdom

  559. to establish it

  560. and uphold it

  561. with justice

  562. and with righteousness

  563. from this time forth

  564. and forevermore.

  565. The zeal of the Lord

  566. will do this.

  567. Do what?

  568. Establish this kingdom.

  569. What kingdom?

  570. This heavenly kingdom

  571. through his son Jesus Christ.

  572. By what means

  573. as a Passover lamb?

  574. We look here

  575. and it says,

  576. Behold,

  577. your king is coming

  578. to you righteous.

  579. Point number three.

  580. So if you missed it,

  581. point one,

  582. it's a time for rejoicing.

  583. Point two,

  584. the long-awaited king

  585. is coming.

  586. Point number three

  587. is this,

  588. this king

  589. is fully

  590. and completely

  591. righteous.

  592. He did not come

  593. for self.

  594. He did not come

  595. to make a name

  596. for himself.

  597. Alexander the Great

  598. came to make

  599. a name for himself,

  600. to conquer in his name

  601. and the esteem

  602. that he would get

  603. because of his great

  604. accomplishments.

  605. You know,

  606. Christ didn't come

  607. with that.

  608. Christ came

  609. in righteousness

  610. with righteousness.

  611. And with New Testament eyes,

  612. we look at Christ

  613. and we say,

  614. he was sinless

  615. in every way.

  616. He never sinned.

  617. Matter of fact,

  618. he was born

  619. of a virgin.

  620. What's the big deal?

  621. To be born

  622. of a virgin

  623. means that he's not

  624. born in Adam.

  625. That means he's not

  626. born with original sin.

  627. He's not born

  628. with Adam's sin.

  629. God placed him

  630. in the womb

  631. of Mary.

  632. The hand of God

  633. placed him

  634. in the womb

  635. of Mary.

  636. He did not

  637. come into the world

  638. as a sinner.

  639. He came into the world

  640. as a son of God,

  641. as a savior.

  642. sinless

  643. in every way.

  644. And he lived

  645. his life

  646. honoring the Father

  647. with everything

  648. he said

  649. and everything

  650. he did.

  651. He fulfilled

  652. all of God's will.

  653. All of it.

  654. All of it.

  655. This is a righteous king

  656. and he came

  657. to give

  658. or bring

  659. righteousness.

  660. You know that

  661. all

  662. people

  663. that he

  664. purchases,

  665. all people

  666. that he forgives

  667. and redeems,

  668. you know that

  669. all are considered

  670. righteous.

  671. The word of God

  672. talks about

  673. that the righteousness

  674. of Christ

  675. because he lived

  676. and died

  677. in our place

  678. is given to us.

  679. We give our sin

  680. to him

  681. and he carries it

  682. to the cross

  683. on a cruel death

  684. and he gives us

  685. his righteousness.

  686. And like a garment

  687. you can picture

  688. a coat that you

  689. would put over

  690. your shoulders

  691. and would totally

  692. cover you.

  693. We're made

  694. fully righteous

  695. not by what

  696. we've done

  697. but by what

  698. this righteous

  699. king has done

  700. on our behalf.

  701. And notice

  702. what it says

  703. point number

  704. four

  705. he comes

  706. this king

  707. comes

  708. having salvation.

  709. This king

  710. comes

  711. to save.

  712. You know

  713. the children

  714. of Israel

  715. thought yes

  716. he's coming

  717. to save us

  718. he's going

  719. to free us

  720. from the oppression

  721. of these countries

  722. these kingdoms

  723. that are oppressing

  724. us

  725. and they're

  726. lording over us

  727. and making us

  728. slaves and servants

  729. to them

  730. and he's going

  731. to destroy

  732. all that

  733. no no no

  734. he's going

  735. to destroy

  736. an enemy

  737. much much

  738. greater than that

  739. much much

  740. bigger than that.

  741. Do y'all know

  742. who our real

  743. enemy is?

  744. You know

  745. if we look

  746. at Ephesians

  747. Paul says this

  748. he says

  749. we war not

  750. against flesh

  751. and blood

  752. but our true

  753. wars against

  754. principalities

  755. and powers

  756. and rulers

  757. of the darkness

  758. and spiritual

  759. wickedness

  760. in great places

  761. there is a kingdom

  762. a demonic kingdom

  763. headed by Satan

  764. who seeks

  765. to devour

  766. that's our enemy

  767. and even

  768. our in addition

  769. to that

  770. we have an enemy

  771. that's called sin

  772. we were born

  773. as sinners

  774. we were born

  775. as slaves

  776. to sin

  777. Paul says

  778. in Romans 6

  779. we were slaves

  780. to sin

  781. because we're born

  782. in Adam

  783. we could not

  784. do anything

  785. righteous

  786. we could not

  787. do anything

  788. that honored God

  789. because of

  790. our innate

  791. sinfulness

  792. the word of God

  793. says that we were

  794. enemies at birth

  795. against God

  796. but this king

  797. comes bringing

  798. salvation

  799. it is the

  800. redemptive plan

  801. of God

  802. right

  803. we've talked

  804. about what God

  805. intended

  806. through all

  807. of the prophecies

  808. and all of the

  809. covenants

  810. all of them

  811. pointing to one

  812. man

  813. and they're

  814. pointing to

  815. Jesus

  816. and what was

  817. the intention

  818. of God

  819. he was intending

  820. to write

  821. what was destroyed

  822. in the garden

  823. but we've already

  824. preached about

  825. revelation

  826. the end

  827. is far greater

  828. than even

  829. what was in

  830. the garden

  831. it's this

  832. hope

  833. and this

  834. dream

  835. and this

  836. reality

  837. that we will

  838. enjoy

  839. in the heavenly

  840. kingdom

  841. where there will

  842. be no sin

  843. there will be

  844. no tears

  845. there will be

  846. no crying

  847. we'll be

  848. face to face

  849. in the presence

  850. of God

  851. we don't

  852. I don't know

  853. that we realize

  854. the greatness

  855. of that gift

  856. that we've been

  857. made right

  858. with almighty

  859. God

  860. we will enjoy

  861. what he brings

  862. and this salvation

  863. is talked about

  864. let me just

  865. mention a couple

  866. of places

  867. in the scripture

  868. where this type

  869. salvation

  870. is mentioned

  871. what is the

  872. salvation

  873. that Jesus

  874. brings

  875. is it saving

  876. us from other

  877. kingdoms

  878. other people

  879. other groups

  880. from the Roman

  881. empire

  882. no no no

  883. no

  884. it's saving

  885. us from sin

  886. sin is what

  887. separates us

  888. from God

  889. sin is what

  890. caused Adam

  891. and Eve

  892. to be pushed

  893. out of the

  894. garden

  895. and they placed

  896. an angel

  897. with a flaming

  898. sword at the

  899. entrance and

  900. said you

  901. cannot come

  902. because of

  903. your sin

  904. you can't

  905. be face

  906. to face

  907. or in

  908. relation

  909. with the

  910. holy God

  911. you can't

  912. be

  913. and so

  914. our sin

  915. is separate

  916. us from

  917. God

  918. but the

  919. word of

  920. God

  921. says this

  922. it says

  923. the wages

  924. of sin

  925. is death

  926. but the

  927. free gift

  928. of God

  929. in Christ

  930. Jesus

  931. excuse me

  932. the free

  933. gift of God

  934. is eternal

  935. life in

  936. Christ

  937. Jesus

  938. the wages

  939. of sin

  940. is death

  941. all of us

  942. all of us

  943. all of us

  944. were born

  945. in sin

  946. and guess

  947. what that

  948. means

  949. that means

  950. that we

  951. spiritually

  952. speaking

  953. are dead

  954. physically

  955. we're alive

  956. spiritually

  957. speaking

  958. we're dead

  959. until the

  960. free gift

  961. of God

  962. is extended

  963. to us

  964. and by

  965. faith

  966. we see

  967. that the

  968. life that

  969. Christ lived

  970. the death

  971. that he died

  972. was in our

  973. place for

  974. us

  975. in

  976. Acts

  977. the book

  978. of Acts

  979. it says

  980. this

  981. it said

  982. this

  983. Jesus

  984. is the

  985. stone

  986. that was

  987. rejected

  988. by you

  989. talking about

  990. the leaders

  991. of the

  992. Jewish

  993. nation

  994. you

  995. the

  996. builders

  997. which

  998. has

  999. become

  1000. the

  1001. cornerstone

  1002. and there

  1003. is

  1004. salvation

  1005. in no

  1006. other

  1007. name

  1008. excuse me

  1009. there is

  1010. salvation

  1011. in no

  1012. one

  1013. else

  1014. for

  1015. there's

  1016. no

  1017. other

  1018. name

  1019. under

  1020. heaven

  1021. given

  1022. among

  1023. men

  1024. by

  1025. which

  1026. we

  1027. must

  1028. be

  1029. saved

  1030. and

  1031. then

  1032. Romans

  1033. says

  1034. it

  1035. this

  1036. way

  1037. it

  1038. says

  1039. if you

  1040. confess

  1041. with your

  1042. mouth

  1043. that

  1044. Jesus

  1045. is

  1046. Lord

  1047. and

  1048. believe

  1049. in

  1050. your

  1051. heart

  1052. that

  1053. God

  1054. raised

  1055. him

  1056. from

  1057. the

  1058. dead

  1059. you

  1060. will

  1061. be

  1062. saved

  1063. for

  1064. with

  1065. the

  1066. heart

  1067. one

  1068. believes

  1069. and

  1070. is

  1071. justified

  1072. and

  1073. with

  1074. the

  1075. mouth

  1076. one

  1077. confesses

  1078. is

  1079. saved

  1080. for

  1081. everyone

  1082. who

  1083. calls

  1084. on

  1085. the

  1086. name

  1087. of

  1088. the

  1089. Lord

  1090. will

  1091. be

  1092. saved

  1093. you

  1094. that

  1095. was

  1096. coming

  1097. that

  1098. would

  1099. establish

  1100. a

  1101. kingdom

  1102. that's

  1103. spiritual

  1104. in

  1105. nature

  1106. and

  1107. those

  1108. who

  1109. receive

  1110. the

  1111. work

  1112. of

  1113. Christ

  1114. by

  1115. faith

  1116. will

  1117. be

  1118. a

  1119. part

  1120. of

  1121. that

  1122. kingdom

  1123. the

  1124. word

  1125. of

  1126. God

  1127. says

  1128. the

  1129. New

  1130. Testament

  1131. says

  1132. Paul

  1133. says

  1134. it

  1135. it's

  1136. by

  1137. faith

  1138. that

  1139. we

  1140. accept

  1141. these

  1142. truths

  1143. it's

  1144. by

  1145. faith

  1146. that

  1147. we

  1148. believe

  1149. what

  1150. God

  1151. has

  1152. done

  1153. is

  1154. for

  1155. us

  1156. those

  1157. who

  1158. reach

  1159. out

  1160. to

  1161. him

  1162. and

  1163. say

  1164. I

  1165. recognize

  1166. I'm

  1167. not

  1168. able

  1169. but

  1170. I

  1171. know

  1172. you

  1173. are

  1174. Lord

  1175. I

  1176. need

  1177. you

  1178. and

  1179. I

  1180. ask

  1181. you

  1182. to

  1183. forgive

  1184. me

  1185. for

  1186. my

  1187. sins

  1188. and

  1189. you

  1190. would

  1191. save

  1192. me

  1193. because

  1194. of

  1195. the

  1196. work

  1197. of

  1198. Christ

  1199. in

  1200. my

  1201. place

  1202. friends

  1203. have

  1204. you

  1205. done

  1206. that

  1207. have

  1208. you

  1209. understood

  1210. that

  1211. have

  1212. you

  1213. received

  1214. !

  1215. the

  1216. salvation

  1217. that

  1218. he's

  1219. talking

  1220. about

  1221. in

  1222. Zechariah

  1223. so

  1224. point

  1225. one

  1226. is

  1227. it's

  1228. a

  1229. time

  1230. for

  1231. rejoicing

  1232. point

  1233. two

  1234. is

  1235. there's

  1236. a

  1237. long

  1238. awaited

  1239. king

  1240. that's

  1241. been

  1242. proclaimed

  1243. that

  1244. God

  1245. was

  1246. going

  1247. to

  1248. send

  1249. point

  1250. three

  1251. is

  1252. this

  1253. king

  1254. is

  1255. righteous

  1256. in

  1257. every

  1258. way

  1259. and

  1260. worthy

  1261. worthy

  1262. to

  1263. receive

  1264. a

  1265. kingdom

  1266. and

  1267. fourth

  1268. he

  1269. is

  1270. bringing

  1271. salvation

  1272. this

  1273. redemption

  1274. that

  1275. is

  1276. salvation

  1277. in

  1278. Christ

  1279. his

  1280. spiritual

  1281. in

  1282. nation

  1283. and

  1284. number

  1285. five

  1286. the

  1287. last

  1288. point

  1289. here

  1290. is

  1291. a

  1292. conquering

  1293. king

  1294. have

  1295. you

  1296. ever

  1297. wondered

  1298. !

  1299. why

  1300. he

  1301. would

  1302. choose

  1303. to

  1304. ride

  1305. in

  1306. on

  1307. a

  1308. donkey

  1309. you

  1310. know

  1311. it's

  1436. in

  1437. a

  1438. relationship

  1439. with

  1440. God

  1465. Jesus

  1466. let's

  1467. pray

  1468. Lord

  1469. Jesus

  1470. we

  1471. marvel

  1472. at

  1473. the

  1474. brutality

  1475. of

  1476. what

  1477. you

  1478. had

  1479. to

  1481. the

  1482. wrath

  1483. of

  1484. God

  1485. against

  1486. sinners

  1487. Lord

  1488. Jesus

  1489. that

  1490. you

  1491. would

  1492. take

  1493. on

  1494. our

  1495. sins

  1496. and

  1497. you

  1498. would

  1499. carry

  1500. them

  1501. to

  1502. a

  1503. cross

  1504. and

  1505. you

  1506. would

  1507. endure

  1508. the

  1509. wrath

  1510. of

  1511. your

  1512. father

  1513. that

  1514. was

  1515. intended

  1516. for

  1517. us

  1518. because

  1519. of

  1520. our

  1521. sinfulness

  1522. Lord

  1523. Jesus

  1524. a

  1525. marvel

  1526. that

  1527. you

  1528. would

  1529. be

  1530. so

  1531. gracious

  1532. as

  1533. to

  1534. invite

  1535. me

  1536. to

  1537. be

  1538. in

  1539. your

  1540. kingdom

  1541. and

  1542. Lord

  1543. I

  1544. am

  1545. so

  1546. thankful

  1547. that

  1548. many

  1549. here

  1550. today

  1551. would

  1552. have

  1553. that

  1554. same

  1555. confession

  1556. a

  1557. confession

  1558. that

  1559. you've

  1560. changed

  1561. our

  1562. life

  1563. you've

  1564. caused

  1565. us

  1566. to

  1567. be

  1568. born

  1569. again

  1570. that

  1571. you've

  1572. brought

  1573. us

  1574. into

  1575. your

  1576. kingdom

  1577. that

  1578. you've

  1579. paid

  1580. the

  1581. ransom

  1582. price

  1583. for

  1584. our

  1585. soul

  1586. that

  1587. you've

  1588. promised

  1589. us

  1590. a

  1591. place

  1592. in

  1593. heaven

  1594. that

  1595. you've

  1596. made

  1597. us

  1598. to

  1599. be

  1600. a

  1601. part

  1602. of

  1603. the

  1604. bride

  1605. that

  1606. we

  1607. will

  1608. enjoy

  1609. the

  1610. wedding

  1611. supper

  1612. of

  1613. the

  1614. lamb

  1615. But

  1616. God

  1617. I

  1618. wonder

  1619. Is

  1620. there

  1621. anyone

  1622. here

  1623. Lord

  1624. that

  1625. doesn't

  1626. know

  1627. you

  1628. I

  1629. pray

  1630. that

  1631. you

  1632. would

  1633. speak

  1634. to

  1635. their

  1636. hearts

  1637. this

  1638. morning

  1639. and

  1640. that

  1641. Father

  1642. you

  1643. would

  1644. share

  1645. that

  1646. apart

  1647. from

  1648. the

  1649. work

  1650. of

  1651. King

  1652. Jesus

  1653. bringing

  1654. salvation

  1655. to

  1656. them

  1657. there's

  1658. no

  1659. hope

  1660. on

  1661. our

  1662. own

  1663. we

  1664. have

  1665. no

  1666. hope

  1667. it's

  1668. only

  1669. through

  1670. your

  1671. Lord

  1672. Jesus

  1673. and

  1674. so

  1675. would

  1676. you

  1677. do

  1678. a

  1679. work

  1680. in

  1681. the

  1682. heart

  1683. of

  1684. anyone

  1685. here

  1686. that

  1687. doesn't

  1688. know

  1689. you

  1690. as

  1691. Lord

  1692. and

  1693. Savior

  1694. this

  1695. morning

  1696. I

  1697. pray

  1698. would

  1699. you

  1700. show

  1701. them

  1702. the

  1703. gift

  1704. that

  1705. you

  1706. freely

  1707. offer

  1708. through

  1709. your

  1710. son

  1711. our

  1712. Lord

  1713. Jesus

  1714. Christ

  1715. and

  1716. I

  1717. pray

  1718. in

  1719. your

  1720. name

  1721. amen
