  1. Good morning. It's my privilege this morning to be able to open God's Word with you.

  2. And we continue in the book of Genesis this morning, specifically in chapter 27,

  3. ! And then we'll leak into chapter 28 as well, the first section of 28.

  4. But before we stand and read it, let me just tie into what we've heard over the last few weeks.

  5. Just a couple of points I would want you to remember as we look into chapter 27.

  6. The first is this. You would remember that Rebecca was barren, and she was barren for quite a number of years.

  7. Isn't it interesting that Sarah was barren? Now, here we see that same pattern again.

  8. Rebecca's barren. And Isaac prays for her, and she received child, and she had twins.

  9. And they were struggling. There was a battle going on within her, so much so that she diligently, fervently prayed to God.

  10. I guess worried maybe what was going on. She didn't want to lose her children after having waited so long

  11. and being blessed to be pregnant.

  12. And the Lord said this to her as she prayed.

  13. It's in chapter 25. It says,

  14. Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided.

  15. The one shall be stronger than the other. The older shall serve the younger.

  16. And I want you to see, remember as well, this truth is that the boys grew up, and they were extremely different.

  17. Here in the Scripture it says,

  18. Esau was a skillful hunter, a man of the field.

  19. When Jonathan preached on this, a man's man.

  20. He was a tough guy, an outdoorsman.

  21. And then we see that Jacob was a quiet man dwelling in tents.

  22. So his personality, his interests, vastly different than Esau's.

  23. And we see conflict in the family.

  24. We see a little bit of a picture into the family as we read the very next verse.

  25. It says,

  26. Isaac loved Esau because he ate of his game.

  27. He was a man that enjoyed the hunt, and he would bring back the spoils of the hunt.

  28. And Isaac loved that.

  29. And Rebecca loved Jacob.

  30. Gosh, I don't think it's healthy to have favorites, is it?

  31. And yet we see this dysfunction spelled out in Scriptures here.

  32. What we also see about Esau is this, is that Esau despised his birthright.

  33. You remember the scenario where he came back famished from a hunt, didn't have any food, was starving.

  34. His brother had lentil soup, maybe had a little more than that.

  35. He said, please give it to me.

  36. He said, I will if.

  37. If you sell me or give me your birthright, then I'll give you all the food you want.

  38. And he despised his birthright, meaning he wasn't really interested in spiritual things.

  39. And then we see this promise of God to Isaac.

  40. You know, God promised Abraham, if we were to look back in Genesis 12,

  41. just this beautiful promise of how he would use Abraham to bless the whole earth,

  42. to bless nations, to bless peoples all around the earth.

  43. There's a land promise involved.

  44. We will multiply you.

  45. And here we see again that he's now promising to Isaac,

  46. and it sounds very similar to what he said to Abraham.

  47. This is God continuing to accomplish his covenant promise,

  48. and he's choosing to do it through Isaac.

  49. And he says to Isaac, as the Lord appeared to him,

  50. sojourn in this land, and I will be with you and will bless you.

  51. For to you and your offspring I will give all these lands,

  52. and I will establish the oath that I swore to Abraham your father.

  53. The blessing that he received from God was powerful,

  54. a reminder to him of what he had blessed

  55. or what he had promised in the life of Abraham his father.

  56. And then one more thing I want you to see.

  57. Last week when we finished, there was a little caveat of truth there

  58. that really is going to play into what we're looking at in chapter 27.

  59. So at the end of 26, in the last verse, it says that,

  60. or the last two verses, so when Esau was 40 years old,

  61. he took Judith, the daughter of Beri, the Hittite, to be his wife,

  62. and Basmath, the daughter of Elon, the Hittite.

  63. And they made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah.

  64. So I see here a lack of leadership, spiritual leadership in the life of Isaac.

  65. Would not Isaac have counseled his son to not marry with the women of this land,

  66. this land of Canaan?

  67. Which is exactly what Abraham instructed his servant to do for Isaac.

  68. to send a go to the land, and you find a wife,

  69. a wife that is a part of our people, and bring her back.

  70. And we see that it was Rebekah, and we are part of that.

  71. We've seen how that story has played itself out.

  72. And now here we are at chapter 27.

  73. And so in honor of God's word, I would ask if you're able to please stand

  74. as we read chapter 27 and the first part of chapter 28.

  75. It's a little bit long, so hang in there.

  76. When Isaac was old and his eyes were dim so that he could not see,

  77. he called Esau, his oldest son, and said to him,

  78. My son.

  79. And he answered, Here I am.

  80. He said, Behold, I am old.

  81. I do not know the day of my death.

  82. Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow,

  83. and go out to the field and hunt game for me,

  84. and prepare for me delicious food such as I love,

  85. and bring it to me so that I may eat,

  86. that my soul may bless you before I die.

  87. Now Rebekah was listening when Isaac spoke to his son Esau.

  88. So when Esau went to the field to hunt for game and bring it,

  89. Rebekah said to her son Jacob,

  90. I heard your father speak to your brother Esau.

  91. Bring me game and prepare for me delicious food

  92. that I may eat it and bless you before the Lord before I die.

  93. Now therefore, my son, obey my voice as I command you.

  94. Go to the flock and bring me two good young goats

  95. so that I may prepare from them delicious food for your father.

  96. Such as he loves.

  97. And you shall bring it to your father to eat

  98. so that he may bless you before he dies.

  99. But Jacob said to Rebekah's mother,

  100. Behold, my brother Esau is a hairy man,

  101. and I am a smooth man.

  102. Perhaps my father will feel me,

  103. and I shall seem to be mocking him

  104. and bring a curse upon myself and not a blessing.

  105. His mother said to him,

  106. Let your curse be on me, my son.

  107. Only obey my voice and go, bring them to me.

  108. So he went and he took them,

  109. and he brought them to his mother,

  110. and his mother prepared delicious food such as his father loved.

  111. Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau,

  112. her older son, which were with her in the house,

  113. and put them on Jacob, her younger son.

  114. And the skins of the young goat she put on his hands

  115. and on the smooth part of his neck.

  116. And she put the delicious food and bread

  117. which she had prepared into the hand of her son Jacob.

  118. So he went in to his father and said,

  119. My father.

  120. And he said, Here I am.

  121. Who are you, my son?

  122. Jacob said to his father,

  123. I am Esau, your firstborn.

  124. I have done as you told me.

  125. Now sit up and eat of my game,

  126. that your soul may bless me.

  127. But Isaac said to his son,

  128. How is it that you have found it so quickly, my son?

  129. He answered,

  130. Because the Lord your God granted me success.

  131. Then Isaac said to Jacob,

  132. Please come near,

  133. that I may feel you, my son,

  134. to know whether you are really my son Esau or not.

  135. So Jacob went near to Isaac, his father,

  136. who felt him and said,

  137. The voice is Jacob's voice,

  138. but the hands are the hands of Esau.

  139. And he did not recognize him

  140. because his hands were hairy like his brother Esau's hands.

  141. So he blessed him.

  142. He said,

  143. Are you really my son Esau?

  144. He answered,

  145. I am.

  146. Then he said,

  147. Bring it near to me,

  148. that I may eat of my son's game and bless you.

  149. So he brought it near to him,

  150. and he ate,

  151. and he brought him wine,

  152. and he drank.

  153. Then his father Isaac said to him,

  154. Come near and kiss me, my son.

  155. So he came near,

  156. and he kissed him,

  157. and Isaac smelled the smell of his garments

  158. and blessed him and said,

  159. See, the smell of my son

  160. is the smell of a field that the Lord has blessed.

  161. May God give you of the dew of heaven

  162. and of the fatness of the earth

  163. and plenty of grain and wine.

  164. Let people serve you

  165. and nations bow down to you.

  166. Be Lord over your brothers,

  167. and may your mother's sons bow down to you.

  168. Cursed be everyone who curses you,

  169. and blessed be everyone who blesses you.

  170. As soon as Isaac had finished blessing Jacob,

  171. when Jacob had scarcely gone out

  172. from the presence of Isaac his father,

  173. Esau his brother came in from hunting.

  174. He also prepared delicious food

  175. and brought it to his father.

  176. And he said to his father,

  177. Let my father rise and eat of his son's game

  178. that you may bless me.

  179. His father Isaac said to him,

  180. Who are you?

  181. He answered,

  182. I'm your son, your firstborn, Esau.

  183. Then Isaac trembled very violently.

  184. And he said,

  185. Who was it then that hunted the game

  186. and brought it to me?

  187. And I ate of it before you came.

  188. And I have blessed him, yes,

  189. and he shall be blessed.

  190. As soon as Esau heard the words of his father,

  191. he cried out with an exceedingly great and bitter cry

  192. and said to his father,

  193. Bless me, even me also, my father.

  194. But he said,

  195. Your brother came deceitfully,

  196. and he has taken away your blessing.

  197. Esau said,

  198. Is he not rightly named Jacob?

  199. For he has cheated me these two times.

  200. He took away my birthright,

  201. and behold, now he has taken away my blessing.

  202. Then he said,

  203. Have you not reserved a blessing for me?

  204. Isaac answered and said to Esau,

  205. Behold, I have made him lord over you,

  206. and all his brothers I have given to him for servants.

  207. And with grain and wine I have sustained him.

  208. What then can I do for you, my son?

  209. Esau said to his father,

  210. Have you but one blessing, my father?

  211. Bless me, even me also, my father.

  212. And Esau lifted up his voice and wept.

  213. And then Isaac, his father, answered and said to him,

  214. Behold, away from the fatness of the earth

  215. shall your dwelling be,

  216. and away from the dew of heaven on high.

  217. By your sword you shall live,

  218. and you shall serve your brother.

  219. But when you grow restless,

  220. you shall break his yoke from your neck.

  221. Now Esau hated Jacob

  222. because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him.

  223. And Esau said to himself,

  224. The days of mourning for my father are approaching,

  225. then I will kill my brother Jacob.

  226. But the words of Esau, her older son,

  227. were told to Rebekah.

  228. So she sent and called Jacob, her younger son,

  229. and said to him,

  230. Behold, your brother Esau comforts himself about you

  231. by planning to kill you.

  232. Now therefore, my son, obey my voice.

  233. Arise, flee to Laban, my brother, and Haran,

  234. and stay with him a while

  235. until your brother's fury turns away,

  236. until your brother's anger turns away from you,

  237. and he forgets what you have done to him.

  238. Then I will send and bring you from there.

  239. Why should I be bereft of you both in one day?

  240. Then Rebekah said to Isaac,

  241. I loathe my life because of the Hittite women.

  242. If Jacob marries one of the Hittite women like these,

  243. one of the women of the land,

  244. what good will my life be to me?

  245. Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him

  246. and directed him.

  247. You must not take a wife from the Canaanite women.

  248. Arise, go to Padan-Aram,

  249. to the house of Bethul, your mother's father,

  250. and take as your wife from there

  251. one of the daughters of Laban, your mother's brother.

  252. God Almighty bless you

  253. and make you fruitful and multiply you

  254. that you may become a company of peoples.

  255. May he give the blessing of Abram to you

  256. and to your offspring with you

  257. that you may take possession of the land of your sojournings

  258. that God gave to Abraham.

  259. Thus Isaac sent Jacob away

  260. and he went to Padan-Aram,

  261. to Laban, the son of Bethul, the Aramean,

  262. the brother of Rebekah, Jacob, and Esau's mother.

  263. Esau saw Isaac had blessed Jacob

  264. and sent him away to Padan-Aram

  265. to take a wife from there.

  266. And that he had blessed him,

  267. and that as he blessed him, he directed him,

  268. you must not take a wife from the Canaanite women.

  269. And that Jacob had obeyed his father and his mother

  270. and gone to Padan-Aram.

  271. So when Esau saw that the Canaanite women

  272. did not please Isaac, his father,

  273. Esau went to Ishmael and took as his wife,

  274. besides the wives he had,

  275. Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael's,

  276. Abraham's son, the sister of Naboth.

  277. That's a long one.

  278. Pray with me right quick.

  279. Father, we love your word.

  280. And I just ask this morning

  281. that you would teach us from your word this morning.

  282. Show us what you would have us see.

  283. Help us to live in a way

  284. that would bring honor and glory to your name.

  285. And I pray in the name of Jesus.

  286. Amen.

  287. Y'all can have a seat.

  288. I'll start with a quick story this morning.

  289. When I was much younger,

  290. I had a good friend of mine,

  291. Butch Floyd,

  292. who was gracious to me.

  293. I used to play a lot of golf

  294. and he was a member at the Atlanta Athletic Club,

  295. which is a really nice golf course in Atlanta.

  296. And he invited me often to play golf with him

  297. and member guests and just other rounds.

  298. I was a youth pastor.

  299. His son was in my youth ministry.

  300. That's how we connected.

  301. And he just wanted to bless me.

  302. He did it in many ways.

  303. On one particular occasion,

  304. he called and said,

  305. Hey, can you play this week?

  306. I'm like, sure.

  307. He said, I got somebody else

  308. that's going to play with us.

  309. I'm like, okay, cool.

  310. And he said, yes,

  311. one of the Atlanta Braves.

  312. Now, the Atlanta Braves started their run in 1991,

  313. if you're a fan,

  314. and they went 14 straight years.

  315. But before they started the run,

  316. this would have been in the very late 80s,

  317. this was the guy who was the best pitcher

  318. on the Atlanta Braves.

  319. And I don't know if you're like me.

  320. For people that are famous,

  321. I have this thought in my mind

  322. that they're probably going to be a little stuck up.

  323. And they're going to view me

  324. as being a second-class citizen,

  325. and they're not going to really want to talk to me

  326. or show any interest.

  327. I don't know why,

  328. but that's just in my mind

  329. that my expectation was

  330. that the guy's going to be hard to talk to.

  331. He's going to be aloof.

  332. He's going to be, you know,

  333. just a little proud of himself

  334. for what he's accomplished.

  335. And so my expectation as I walk into it,

  336. I'm like, I don't want to ride in a cart with him.

  337. You ride with him,

  338. and I'm going to ride over here.

  339. You know what was interesting is

  340. his name's Jose Alvarez.

  341. He played 88, 89 in that time frame.

  342. And, man, he was the most pleasant guy

  343. to be around, very gracious.

  344. I mean, he didn't wait for me

  345. to come up and introduce myself.

  346. He came to me to introduce himself

  347. and asked me about my family

  348. and asked me how I was doing.

  349. Just very, very gracious guy.

  350. He was humble.

  351. He didn't seem to have a silver spoon

  352. in his mouth, so to speak.

  353. Down to earth, gracious,

  354. and not ashamed of his faith in Christ.

  355. And I was shocked.

  356. And not only did I play the one time,

  357. played multiple times with him.

  358. And each time it proved to be real.

  359. It wasn't something he was putting on.

  360. But my expectations were totally wrong.

  361. I don't know if you've ever had that experience.

  362. That one, in this case, was very pleasant,

  363. that my expectations were wrong.

  364. Well, let me share a verse out of the New Testament

  365. before we really dig into the text here

  366. that ties into this concept of expectation.

  367. In Matthew 22,

  368. Jesus is talking to the Sadducees.

  369. They're trying to trip him up.

  370. And they're asking him about life after.

  371. They say there is no life after.

  372. It just ceased to exist.

  373. And he's saying, no, no, no, no.

  374. Do you not know what God said

  375. to Moses at the burning bush?

  376. Do you remember what he says?

  377. He says, I'm the God of Abraham

  378. and Isaac and Jacob.

  379. And in my mind,

  380. that God would say that they're mine.

  381. These men are mine.

  382. Especially when I was a younger believer,

  383. in my mind, I'm thinking,

  384. these guys must be honoring to God.

  385. They must walk in a God-honoring way.

  386. They must be faithful men

  387. that God would say they're mine.

  388. That was my expectation.

  389. And lo and behold,

  390. two of those men we see

  391. in bold view this morning.

  392. And we see this family

  393. that is a wreck.

  394. It is a mess.

  395. We see this,

  396. the ugly warts of sin

  397. in bold view this morning.

  398. In the lives of two of those three men

  399. that God said,

  400. I'm the God of Abraham

  401. and Isaac whom we'll see

  402. and Jacob whom we'll see.

  403. But what we're going to see

  404. is men that are

  405. less than faithful

  406. and a mess.

  407. Their life is a mess in many ways.

  408. There's friction in this family

  409. that is palpable as we read this.

  410. Did you feel it?

  411. Look with me,

  412. starting in verse,

  413. I'm on the wrong page,

  414. starting in verse 1 of 27.

  415. I mentioned before,

  416. why is it that Abraham,

  417. being the spiritual leader

  418. of his family,

  419. would allow his son

  420. to go off and marry

  421. Canaanite women

  422. when he knows

  423. they're not supposed to do that

  424. as people of God?

  425. Where's the leadership?

  426. And Isaac,

  427. here it says,

  428. Isaac was old.

  429. I looked at,

  430. if you do a little biblical math,

  431. you'll come up with,

  432. or at least some have come up with,

  433. he's roughly 137 years old now.

  434. And it's evident

  435. that something's going on

  436. because he's lost his vision.

  437. His eyes aren't working.

  438. He evidently has lost his taste buds

  439. because they aren't working.

  440. I'll tell you why in just a minute.

  441. And he is wanting

  442. to set his house in order,

  443. it seems.

  444. He feels like the day of his death

  445. is just around the corner.

  446. Even in verse 4,

  447. you see,

  448. he says,

  449. I want to bless you

  450. before I die.

  451. As if he feels like

  452. his death is imminent.

  453. So he's trying to set

  454. everything in order.

  455. He wants to name his,

  456. he wants to give a blessing

  457. to his son with the birthright.

  458. The son that he chooses.

  459. And isn't it interesting?

  460. He says,

  461. he calls Esau.

  462. And he says,

  463. hey, Esau,

  464. do me a favor.

  465. I don't know when I'm going to die,

  466. but you know what I crave?

  467. I crave the food

  468. from the deer.

  469. He doesn't say deer here,

  470. but he's out in the field.

  471. I said,

  472. please go hunt

  473. and go kill one of the beasts

  474. that you normally kill.

  475. And could you prepare it

  476. and bring it to me

  477. so that I can enjoy this meal

  478. before I bless you?

  479. Because I want to give you

  480. my ultimate blessing.

  481. And so what does he do?

  482. He takes off Esau.

  483. We'll talk about Esau in a minute.

  484. He takes off.

  485. Do you hear what he's attempting

  486. and desiring to do here?

  487. We heard earlier

  488. that Isaac loved Esau.

  489. Why?

  490. Because he liked the game.

  491. I mean, it was...

  492. So he plays favorites

  493. because his belly is full,

  494. because he likes the way

  495. the thing tastes.

  496. And honestly,

  497. do you notice this?

  498. He said,

  499. take your weapons

  500. and your quiver

  501. and your bow

  502. and go to the field

  503. and hunt game.

  504. He's like,

  505. you're my warrior, man.

  506. Go out and fight.

  507. I mean,

  508. you've always been successful.

  509. Can you do me a favor

  510. and go do it now?

  511. It's as if he's really...

  512. He has this idea of manhood

  513. and he has this desire

  514. to bless the one

  515. whom he loves the most,

  516. that is Esau,

  517. because Esau is a man's man.

  518. And he likes that in a man.

  519. Whereas the other son,

  520. Jacob,

  521. is more of a...

  522. The Bible doesn't tell us a ton,

  523. but it does say

  524. that he tends to be in the tent.

  525. He's not an outdoorsman.

  526. We can imply from the text.

  527. He's a little soft.

  528. If you were to put the two

  529. up against each other

  530. and say,

  531. okay, y'all duke it out.

  532. Who do you think is going to win?

  533. It's hands down,

  534. no question.

  535. The man's man,

  536. the tough and rough

  537. and tumble guy

  538. is going to win

  539. every single time.

  540. So I'm sure this mindset

  541. is in the heart

  542. of Isaac

  543. and he just likes him better.

  544. He wants to give his blessing

  545. to this son

  546. who would represent

  547. his likes

  548. and his wishes

  549. and his will

  550. more so

  551. than Jacob.

  552. But if I was a godly friend

  553. of Isaac,

  554. you know what?

  555. I'd go up to him and say,

  556. Isaac,

  557. man,

  558. what are you doing?

  559. Do you not remember

  560. what God said

  561. to Rebecca,

  562. your wife,

  563. when she prayed?

  564. And I'm sure,

  565. you know,

  566. remember when she shared it with you?

  567. That the older

  568. is going to serve the younger

  569. and that

  570. even though he's stronger,

  571. it says that your youngest son,

  572. Jacob,

  573. is going to be the one

  574. that's going to have the blessing.

  575. Are you,

  576. are you trying to undo

  577. what God has already declared

  578. he's going to do?

  579. There's a willingness

  580. to ignore

  581. the declaration of God

  582. that he gave

  583. and do things

  584. his own way.

  585. It doesn't reflect

  586. a guy that is surrendered

  587. to God

  588. and full of faith

  589. in God.

  590. He's going to do it

  591. how he wants to do it

  592. because he's the father

  593. and he's going to give

  594. the blessing.

  595. And there's some sense

  596. that this blessing

  597. is a

  598. one-time thing

  599. is what it seems like

  600. in the scriptures

  601. because if you were to flip over

  602. to verse 37

  603. where Esau comes back

  604. and says,

  605. don't you have another blessing?

  606. And he says,

  607. behold,

  608. I've made him Lord over you

  609. and all his brothers.

  610. I've given him

  611. servants

  612. and grain

  613. and wine

  614. and I don't have anything left.

  615. I've already given it to him.

  616. It's as if it is

  617. a one-time

  618. blessing.

  619. It has a spiritual component

  620. to it.

  621. And we'll see more

  622. about how Isaac

  623. handles this whole thing

  624. as we walk through.

  625. But let me step

  626. into Rebecca.

  627. Let's look at Rebecca.

  628. So you've got

  629. the patriarch.

  630. You've got Isaac,

  631. the man who is

  632. the man of God

  633. according to Christ.

  634. And what I mean by that,

  635. he says,

  636. I am the God of Isaac.

  637. He's mine.

  638. And then Rebecca,

  639. notice what she did.

  640. She's like,

  641. either she's eavesdropping,

  642. which the scripture

  643. does not say that,

  644. or she just happened to be,

  645. it is a tent

  646. and sound does carry.

  647. So she's in the tent

  648. and she overhears

  649. this conversation about,

  650. hey,

  651. I'm ready to bless you.

  652. I'm ready to give you

  653. the blessing

  654. that you would be

  655. the spiritual head

  656. going forward,

  657. that you receive

  658. the covenant promises

  659. of God

  660. that came to Abraham

  661. and came to me.

  662. I'm going to give them

  663. to you as your father.

  664. It's what I'm,

  665. it's in essence

  666. what he's saying.

  667. You're going to be

  668. the spiritual head

  669. of the family.

  670. Totally in opposition

  671. to what God said.

  672. And Rebecca heard it

  673. and said,

  674. no,

  675. no,

  676. no,

  677. no,

  678. no.

  679. Uh-uh.

  680. Golly,

  681. this is serious.

  682. I'm putting my own spin

  683. on this,

  684. okay?

  685. That isn't exactly

  686. how it's articulated

  687. in the scripture.

  688. But notice what she does.

  689. Rebecca tries to aid God

  690. in fulfilling his promise.

  691. Do you think she remembered

  692. what God had told her

  693. that the younger

  694. will serve the older?

  695. Sure she does.

  696. And here she is

  697. trying to twist it

  698. so that she can accomplish

  699. what she knows

  700. ought to be accomplished.

  701. Her faith in God

  702. is not very strong here,

  703. is it?

  704. Instead of saying,

  705. God,

  706. I know you're almighty,

  707. I know you're sovereign,

  708. I know you're able,

  709. I know you're going

  710. to figure out a way.

  711. Instead of going to prayer

  712. and saying,

  713. God,

  714. I'm surrendering this to you,

  715. I'm submitting it to you

  716. for you to handle,

  717. she says,

  718. I need to take care

  719. of this now.

  720. If I don't take care

  721. of this,

  722. this is going to really

  723. be a big problem.

  724. My husband is going to go

  725. against,

  726. I can't talk,

  727. go against what God

  728. has declared.

  729. I can't let him do that.

  730. I've got to help God here.

  731. And what's she do?

  732. She comes up with this plan.

  733. She calls her younger son,

  734. Jacob,

  735. who is much more compliant

  736. in his own right.

  737. And she says,

  738. hey,

  739. here's what we need to do.

  740. We're going to trick him.

  741. I'm going to get a couple of goats,

  742. which by the way,

  743. do you think deer and goat

  744. taste alike?

  745. Why is she going to get two goats

  746. when he's going out

  747. to get a deer?

  748. And venison is a lot different

  749. than goat.

  750. She probably already knows

  751. that his taste buds are gone.

  752. He can't tell the difference

  753. between goat and deer.

  754. And evidently,

  755. he couldn't as we walk

  756. through the story

  757. because he ate goat

  758. and thought it was deer.

  759. He thought it was from the field.

  760. So his condition

  761. must have been pretty bad

  762. in this scenario.

  763. So she knew

  764. that she could trick him

  765. with a different food,

  766. with goats.

  767. And then she had this brainstorm.

  768. I'm going to take the hair

  769. off the goat.

  770. I'm going to tape it on.

  771. Or I'm going to wrap it around you

  772. so when he feels you,

  773. he's going to feel all that hair

  774. and think,

  775. oh yeah,

  776. of course it's Esau.

  777. I don't know what I can do

  778. for your voice,

  779. but let's just hope

  780. he can't hear real well.

  781. And so she said,

  782. and he says,

  783. listen,

  784. Jacob is over 40 years old here.

  785. He's a man.

  786. And his mom's coming to him

  787. and saying,

  788. I want you to do this thing

  789. which you know is not right,

  790. but we got to trick him

  791. or else you're going

  792. to miss out on this.

  793. We got to help God

  794. and make sure this comes to pass.

  795. And he said,

  796. wait a minute,

  797. what if he fills my neck

  798. and fills my hands?

  799. He knows it's not me.

  800. And she had a plan,

  801. right?

  802. She comes up with all this,

  803. I'm going to give you garments

  804. so that when he smells,

  805. he's going to smell him.

  806. I want you to lie.

  807. I want you to tell him

  808. that you're Esau.

  809. We've got to trick him

  810. so he blesses you.

  811. Are you with me?

  812. Come on,

  813. you with me?

  814. Let's go.

  815. And if I were a friend

  816. of Rebecca,

  817. godly friend,

  818. and I went to her,

  819. I said,

  820. Rebecca,

  821. what are you doing?

  822. Why are you trying

  823. to control this situation?

  824. Do you not have

  825. any faith in God?

  826. Do you not think

  827. God's able to handle

  828. this situation?

  829. The God who spoke

  830. the world into existence,

  831. you've seen this play itself out

  832. as you walked

  833. and you washed it

  834. in the life of Abraham.

  835. And you lived it

  836. in your life.

  837. You've seen the faith

  838. of God,

  839. how he's,

  840. what he's done,

  841. how he's blessed.

  842. And yet,

  843. she wouldn't believe it.

  844. So you're just like,

  845. Rebecca,

  846. no, no, no, no.

  847. Have faith.

  848. God will make this

  849. come to pass.

  850. You don't have to help him.

  851. You don't want to talk

  852. your son into doing

  853. that which is sinful.

  854. Why do you want him

  855. to be deceptive?

  856. Why are you willing

  857. to deceive?

  858. Come on.

  859. That's not the way

  860. to live a God-honoring life.

  861. And then we look at Jacob,

  862. a 40-year-old guy

  863. who lets his mom

  864. talk him into something

  865. that's utterly sinful.

  866. Where is he to say,

  867. no, no, that's not right.

  868. Mom, that is not right.

  869. We should not deceive him

  870. like that.

  871. That's not the way

  872. we're supposed to live.

  873. That would be dishonoring

  874. to my father.

  875. But instead,

  876. what does he say?

  877. He says,

  878. Mom, I'm not worried

  879. about what's right and wrong

  880. in a sense.

  881. I'm just worried

  882. about success.

  883. Is this thing going to work?

  884. Yes, I want

  885. the spiritual blessing.

  886. Have you noticed

  887. as we've read

  888. through the text,

  889. not just this morning

  890. but previously,

  891. that he was interested

  892. in spiritual things.

  893. He desired the birthright,

  894. which is the spiritual leadership

  895. of the family.

  896. There's some desire.

  897. He's leaning that way.

  898. He's just going about it

  899. the wrong way.

  900. He's trying to accomplish

  901. something out of his own

  902. deception,

  903. his own man-made wisdom.

  904. And it's utterly sinful.

  905. Again, remember the expectation

  906. I talked about?

  907. Surely God would pick

  908. godly men,

  909. men that are full of faith,

  910. that are honoring to him

  911. to accomplish his plan

  912. to fulfill his promise,

  913. right?

  914. Well, we got two strikeouts

  915. going on.

  916. We got two guys

  917. that are not walking by faith,

  918. that are trying to do things

  919. in their own way,

  920. full of sin,

  921. and yet,

  922. for some reason,

  923. God is going to use them

  924. and the promise is going

  925. through these men.

  926. Hard to fathom.

  927. But I want you to see

  928. as this plays itself out,

  929. so the meal takes place,

  930. he blesses him

  931. with this powerful blessing

  932. that echoes Genesis 12, 3,

  933. the blessing of Abraham.

  934. And I would say this,

  935. it has a spiritual element

  936. to it predominantly.

  937. Yes, there's material,

  938. there's land,

  939. there's his possessions,

  940. they're involved in this,

  941. but it is a conveyance

  942. of the spiritual head

  943. of the family.

  944. It's a spiritual blessing

  945. upon this child.

  946. And then,

  947. what happens?

  948. And then,

  949. as he's walking out the door,

  950. you can almost see it

  951. in the movie, right?

  952. You got,

  953. he's taking a step out

  954. and in the back door,

  955. guess who's coming in?

  956. Hey, pop,

  957. I got some food for you.

  958. Man, I've been out

  959. to the field,

  960. he's like,

  961. wait a minute,

  962. I am so confused.

  963. Who are you?

  964. Well, I'm your son,

  965. I'm your son Esau.

  966. And what does the scripture say

  967. took place at that moment?

  968. Verse 33

  969. is a pivotal verse

  970. in this section.

  971. And verse 33 says this,

  972. Isaac trembled very violently.

  973. At that moment,

  974. when he understood

  975. what had just taken place,

  976. is that he had been duped,

  977. he had been deceived

  978. by his younger son

  979. who had pretended to be Esau,

  980. and he had come in,

  981. and he had given the blessing

  982. to him,

  983. and then,

  984. I mean,

  985. to Jacob,

  986. sorry,

  987. and then when Isaac comes in,

  988. he shudders violently.

  989. I'm messing names up.

  990. When Esau comes in,

  991. Isaac shudders violently.

  992. Why?

  993. It's because he realized

  994. right then

  995. that he had gone

  996. against the will of God.

  997. He realized

  998. his sin.

  999. He recognized

  1000. that he had done

1001. exactly what he shouldn't have done.

  1002. That is,

  1003. he's given the blessing

1004. to the one he shouldn't have,

1005. but because of the circumstances,

  1006. the blessing landed

  1007. on the son

1008. that it should have landed on,

  1009. and at that moment,

1010. I think that he was struck

  1011. with his sin.

  1012. At some point,

  1013. we will notice this,

1014. is that if we look,

  1015. skip ahead to 28,

  1016. so in 27,

  1017. Jacob is blessed

  1018. by deception,

  1019. but in 28,

1020. I want you to notice

  1021. that Jacob is blessed

  1022. by intention.

  1023. Isaac called Jacob

  1024. and blessed him

  1025. and directed him,

1026. you must not take a wife

  1027. from the Canaanite women,

1028. and then if you look down

  1029. at the verse three,

  1030. God Almighty bless you

  1031. and make you fruitful

  1032. and multiply you,

  1033. may give you

  1034. the blessing of Abraham.

1035. Do you see the difference?

  1036. His intention

  1037. was to bless

  1038. the wrong son,

  1039. and God didn't

  1040. let it happen.

  1041. Even though

  1042. the deception

  1043. and conniving

  1044. was involved,

  1045. ultimately,

  1046. the will of God

1047. would not have allowed it.

  1048. Did God need

  1049. Rebecca to help him?

  1050. Did God need Jacob

  1051. to deceive?

  1052. No.

  1053. They did that

  1054. on their own volition,

1055. but I do want you

  1056. to notice

  1057. that what God

  1058. had declared

  1059. came to pass,

1060. and this is the first point.

1061. If y'all are looking for,

  1062. okay,

1063. what's the main point here?

1064. Let me just share this.

  1065. Is that God,

  1066. excuse me,

  1067. sorry,

  1068. the sovereign plan

  1069. of God

  1070. will be accomplished

  1071. in spite

  1072. of the sinful desires

  1073. and plans

  1074. of men

  1075. and women.

1076. Let me say it again.

  1077. The sovereign

  1078. will of God,

  1079. the sovereign plan

  1080. of God

  1081. will be

  1082. accomplished.

  1083. There's no power

  1084. or force

  1085. on all the earth

  1086. can change

  1087. what God

  1088. has planned.

  1089. We might not

  1090. understand

  1091. how it comes

  1092. to pass.

  1093. God takes even

  1094. the sinful

  1095. actions of people

  1096. and he

  1097. weaves his plan,

  1098. accomplishes his will,

  1099. even though

  1100. they did it

1101. out of their own volition.

  1102. God in his sovereignty

  1103. is able to cause

1104. things to come to pass,

1105. his plan to come to pass.

  1106. He had already

  1107. declared it, right?

  1108. And when I,

  1109. when this

  1110. recognition

  1111. hit Isaac,

  1112. he recognized

  1113. that he had

  1114. purposefully done

  1115. what,

  1116. it was opposite

  1117. of what God

  1118. had declared.

  1119. He recognizes sin

  1120. and I believe

  1121. that there's a

  1122. repentance

  1123. from here

  1124. forward.

  1125. We see that

  1126. blessing

  1127. that is actually

  1128. as if he is

  1129. honoring the will

  1130. of God

  1131. and say

  1132. he will be blessed.

  1133. You know why?

  1134. It's because God

  1135. declared it.

  1136. He knows

  1137. that God

  1138. declared it

  1139. and yet

  1140. he ignored it

  1141. because of his

  1142. own personal

  1143. selfish desires

  1144. and now

  1145. he's become

  1146. aware,

  1147. oh no,

  1148. wow,

  1149. did I just

  1150. do that?

  1151. Did I just

  1152. intend

  1153. to do

  1154. just the opposite

  1155. of what God

  1156. had intended?

  1157. Am I trying

  1158. to come

  1159. against the

  1160. plan of God?

  1161. What have I

  1162. done?

  1163. Esau,

  1164. we don't

  1165. see anything

  1166. godly in Esau

  1167. either,

  1168. do we?

  1169. Matter of

  1170. fact,

  1171. if we were

  1172. to turn

  1173. again to

  1174. Hebrews,

  1175. which we've

  1176. done in

  1177. previous weeks

  1178. here,

  1179. we would

  1180. see a

  1181. guy who

  1182. is sexually

  1183. immoral

  1184. and how does

  1185. that play

  1186. itself out?

  1187. Well,

  1188. he's marrying

  1189. Canaanite women

  1190. because he's

  1191. lusting after

  1192. that type

  1193. of a life.

  1194. He is

  1195. willing to

  1196. go against

  1197. the decree

  1198. of Abraham

  1199. his grandfather,

  1200. the declarer

  1201. that you

  1202. shall not

  1203. take a

  1204. wife from

  1205. the Canaanites

  1206. and we

  1207. see it

  1208. again over

  1209. here that

  1210. that declaration

  1211. is made by

  1212. Isaac again

  1213. when he

  1214. gave a

  1215. direction

  1216. to Jacob,

  1217. don't take

  1218. a wife

  1219. from this

  1220. Canaanite

  1221. tribe,

  1222. you go

  1223. back and

  1224. you take

  1225. a wife

  1226. from our

  1227. people

  1228. and yet

  1229. Esau

  1230. could care

  1231. less.

  1232. He's doing

  1233. his own

  1234. thing,

  1235. his own

  1236. way.

  1237. Esau

  1238. could care

  1239. less about

  1240. spiritual

  1241. things.

  1242. This whole

  1243. headship and

  1244. family,

  1245. you know what

  1246. he wanted?

  1247. He wanted

  1248. all the

  1249. wealth,

  1250. he wanted

  1251. all the

  1252. privilege,

  1253. he wanted

  1254. to be able

  1255. to make

  1256. all the

  1257. decisions.

  1258. He wasn't

  1259. interested in

  1260. spiritual

  1261. things.

  1262. Even when

  1263. he's crying,

  1264. even saying,

  1265. God,

  1266. Father,

  1267. bless me,

  1268. bless me,

  1269. bless me.

  1270. It's not

  1271. the spiritual

  1272. element of it

  1273. that he's

  1274. interested in.

  1275. It's all

  1276. the other

  1277. things.

  1278. It's the

  1279. wealth,

  1280. it's the

  1281. esteem,

  1282. it's the

  1283. leadership

  1284. that he

  1285. wants.

  1286. We see

  1287. his heart,

  1288. he's willing

  1289. to entertain

  1290. murder.

  1291. His intention

  1292. because he's

  1293. so mad

  1294. is he's

  1295. going to

  1296. kill his

  1297. brother.

  1298. He's going

  1299. to fix

  1300. this problem.

  1301. One way

  1302. or the

  1303. other,

  1304. he's going

  1305. to get

  1306. that blessing.

  1307. He's going

  1308. to get

  1309. the wealth

  1310. that comes

  1311. from being

  1312. the older

  1313. son.

  1314. I wrote

  1315. a note

  1316. over here

  1317. in Hebrews

  1318. and it

  1319. says this,

  1320. his desire

  1321. was for

  1322. worldly gain

  1323. and pleasure.

  1324. He treated

  1325. spiritual things

  1326. with contempt.

  1327. The word

  1328. of God

  1329. says that

  1330. no one

  1331. is,

  1332. the author

  1333. of Hebrews

  1334. is instructing

  1335. the readers

  1336. of the letter.

  1337. he said,

  1338. see to it

  1339. that no

  1340. one is

  1341. sexually

  1342. immoral

  1343. and unholy

  1344. like Esau.

  1345. A willingness

  1346. to walk

  1347. outside the

  1348. boundaries

  1349. of what

  1350. God

  1351. had called

  1352. him

  1353. to.

  1354. What do

  1355. you notice

  1356. about his

  1357. family?

  1358. There's one

  1359. more thing

  1360. Rebecca

  1361. here has

  1362. not done,

  1363. is she?

  1364. She overhears

  1365. or she

  1366. learns of,

  1367. somebody

  1368. comes and

  1369. tells her,

  1370. say,

  1371. hey,

  1372. by the way,

  1373. you've got

  1374. a problem

  1375. going on.

  1376. Just want

  1377. to make

  1378. you aware

  1379. that Esau's

  1380. plan is

  1381. to kill

  1382. Jacob.

  1383. Time

  1384. your husband

  1385. dies,

  1386. their dad

  1387. dies,

  1388. that he

  1389. intends

  1390. to kill

  1391. him.

  1392. And she

  1393. said,

  1394. oh man,

  1395. I got

  1396. to fix

  1397. this problem

  1398. too.

  1399. And so

  1400. what does

  1401. she do?

  1402. She goes

  1403. to him

  1404. and said,

  1405. I loathe

  1406. these Hittite

  1407. women,

  1408. these wives

  1409. that are

  1410. just destroying

  1411. our family.

  1412. please,

  1413. please send

  1414. Jacob away

  1415. to marry

  1416. one of our

  1417. people.

  1418. Send him

  1419. to my

  1420. brother,

  1421. Laban,

  1422. and let

  1423. him take

  1424. a wife

  1425. there.

  1426. And so

  1427. what does

  1428. he do?

  1429. He's like,

  1430. oh yeah.

  1431. So Isaac's

  1432. like,

  1433. yes,

  1434. of course.

  1435. Why did

  1436. I ever

  1437. let Esau

  1438. marry

  1439. Canaanite

  1440. women?

  1441. What was

  1442. I thinking?

  1443. That is

  1444. not what

  1445. God desires.

  1446. So yes,

  1447. he calls

  1448. him in

  1449. and he

  1450. blesses

  1451. him and

  1452. says,

  1453. do not

  1454. take a

  1455. wife from

  1456. here.

  1457. I want

  1458. you to

  1459. go to

  1460. Laban.

  1461. I want

  1462. you to

  1463. take a

  1464. wife from

  1465. there.

  1466. Go.

  1467. And what

  1468. did he

  1469. do?

  1470. He took

  1471. off.

  1472. Do you

  1473. see the

  1474. controlling

  1475. hand of

  1476. Rebekah

  1477. in this?

  1478. You see

  1479. how she's

  1480. conniving

  1481. even here?

  1482. She's like,

  1483. I've got to

  1484. protect him.

  1485. I've got to

  1486. keep him

  1487. from being

  1488. killed by

  1489. his older

  1490. brother.

  1491. And so I'm

  1492. going to

  1493. come up

  1494. with a

  1495. plan where

  1496. surely

  1497. Isaac will

  1498. hear the

  1499. wisdom in

  1500. this and

  1501. he'll do

  1502. it.

  1503. Well,

  1504. did he?

  1505. Yes.

  1506. This family,

  1507. it is a

  1508. mess.

  1509. I don't

  1510. know that

  1511. Rebekah ever

  1512. saw her

  1513. son again.

  1514. This one

  1515. that she

  1516. favored who

  1517. she's trying

  1518. to help

  1519. stay alive

  1520. sent him

  1521. away and

  1522. said,

  1523. you stay

  1524. there until

  1525. I call

  1526. you back.

  1527. Did she

  1528. ever call

  1529. him back?

  1530. Never did.

  1531. She died

  1532. in childbirth,

  1533. I believe,

  1534. if I remember

  1535. correctly.

  1536. Now,

  1537. you don't

  1538. hold me to

  1539. that,

  1540. but we'll

  1541. hear it as

  1542. we go

  1543. forward.

  1544. The second

  1545. point is

  1546. this.

  1547. is that

  1548. sin always

  1549. causes chaos

  1550. and destruction.

  1551. Sin always

  1552. causes chaos

  1553. and destruction.

  1554. Do you see

  1555. it?

  1556. Do you see

  1557. destroyed

  1558. relationships

  1559. here?

  1560. Do you see

  1561. chaos in

  1562. their family?

  1563. Deception,

  1564. they're not

  1565. honoring each

  1566. other,

  1567. they're not

  1568. living faith-filled

  1569. lives.

  1570. They're doing

  1571. things their

  1572. own way,

  1573. they're manipulating,

  1574. they're willing

  1575. to walk head

  1576. first into sin,

  1577. they know

  1578. it's sin

  1579. and they're

  1580. doing it

  1581. anyway?

  1582. You know,

  1583. and it begs

  1584. the question

  1585. to me,

  1586. it begs

  1587. this question,

  1588. God,

  1589. why would

  1590. you choose

  1591. to use

  1592. men whose

  1593. lives are

  1594. messed up

  1595. like that?

  1596. Why would

  1597. you do that?

  1598. I mean,

  1599. of all the

  1600. people you

  1601. could have

  1602. used,

  1603. why do you

  1604. choose these

  1605. two men?

  1606. they don't

  1607. follow you

  1608. in faith,

  1609. they don't

  1610. even do

  1611. what they're,

  1612. they don't

  1613. honor you,

  1614. they're willing

  1615. to be bold

  1616. face in

  1617. their sin?

  1618. Do you

  1619. see yourselves

  1620. anywhere in

  1621. this story?

  1622. have y'all

  1623. ever deceived

  1624. anyone?

  1625. Have you

  1626. ever come up

  1627. with a plan

  1628. to say,

  1629. I'm going to

  1630. figure out

  1631. how to get

  1632. my way

  1633. and I'm

  1634. going to

  1635. trick somebody

  1636. to get

  1637. my way?

  1638. Have y'all

  1639. ever hated

  1640. someone so much

  1641. that you'd be

  1642. willing to kill

  1643. them or at

  1644. least hurt

  1645. them or at

  1646. least get

  1647. back and

  1648. retaliate?

  1649. have you

  1650. ever

  1651. tricked

  1652. someone by

  1653. lying over

  1654. and over

  1655. and over

  1656. and over

  1657. and over

  1658. again to

  1659. try to

  1660. get your

  1661. way?

  1662. You know

  1663. what's true

  1664. of all of

  1665. us?

  1666. There's not

  1667. a single

  1668. one of us

  1669. in here,

  1670. especially

  1671. before we

  1672. were in

  1673. the kingdom

  1674. that's

  1675. faithful to

  1676. God,

  1677. that honors

  1678. God,

  1679. that's free

  1680. of sin.

  1681. You know,

  1682. none of

  1683. us are

  1684. worthy of

  1685. being chosen

  1686. to be used

  1687. by God,

  1688. are we?

  1689. Not one

  1690. of us.

  1691. All of

  1692. us are

  1693. full of

  1694. sin.

  1695. You know

  1696. what?

  1697. Isaac and

  1698. Jacob were

  1699. not worthy

  1700. to be used

  1701. by God.

  1702. It's not

  1703. like they

  1704. were godly

  1705. men.

  1706. You know

  1707. what?

  1708. They were

  1709. broken

  1710. men in

  1711. need of

  1712. life change.

  1713. They needed

  1714. the touch

  1715. of God.

  1716. They weren't

  1717. able to be

  1718. faithful without

  1719. the touch

  1720. of God.

  1721. You know

  1722. what?

  1723. Neither

  1724. are we.

  1725. but by

  1726. the grace

  1727. of God

  1728. that God

  1729. would change

  1730. our heart.

  1731. Do you

  1732. remember a

  1733. time in

  1734. your life

  1735. when you

  1736. lived for

  1737. self?

  1738. You know

  1739. it's true

  1740. for all of

  1741. us in

  1742. whatever version

  1743. or whatever

  1744. form that

  1745. takes.

  1746. That is the

  1747. natural condition

  1748. man.

  1749. God

  1750. is that we

  1751. are focused

  1752. on self.

  1753. Until God

  1754. comes and

  1755. touches us

  1756. and brings

  1757. us into

  1758. his kingdom

  1759. through salvation

  1760. through faith

  1761. in his

  1762. promised son

  1763. Jesus

  1764. none of us

  1765. are going to

  1766. be faithful.

  1767. None of us

  1768. are going to

  1769. honor God.

  1770. We're always

  1771. going to walk

  1772. in that sin

  1773. path.

  1774. It's different

  1775. for all of

  1776. us but we

  1777. need the

  1778. life change

  1779. that God

  1780. brings through

  1781. his son

  1782. Jesus Christ.

  1783. Amen?

  1784. Apart from

  1785. God changing

  1786. Isaac and

  1787. changing his

  1788. heart and

  1789. showing him

  1790. his sin

  1791. he would

  1792. continue to

  1793. go down that

  1794. road but by

  1795. the grace of

  1796. God you know

  1797. what God did?

  1798. He chose him.

  1799. He said you're

  1800. mine.

  1801. And you know

  1802. what he did to

  1803. Jacob?

  1804. This guy who

  1805. was willing to

  1806. lie to his

  1807. father over and

  1808. over again.

  1809. Even when he

  1810. said are you

  1811. sure?

  1812. You're my son

  1813. Esau.

  1814. Yes sir.

  1815. There I am.

  1816. God needed to

  1817. change his

  1818. heart too.

  1819. You know

  1820. what?

  1821. God needs to

  1822. change all of

  1823. our hearts and

  1824. perhaps that's

  1825. already happened

  1826. in your life.

  1827. Has there been

  1828. a time in each

  1829. of your lives

  1830. when you've

  1831. recognized your

  1832. sin and you've

  1833. recognized that

  1834. God's provided a

  1835. Messiah Savior

  1836. so that we

  1837. could be in

  1838. relationship with

  1839. him so that we

  1840. can be his?

  1841. you know apart

  1842. from God's

  1843. touch and

  1844. God's draw

  1845. we'll never

  1846. know him.

  1847. Apart from

  1848. God saying

  1849. even in your

  1850. sin I'm

  1851. going to love

  1852. you anyway

  1853. and I'm

  1854. going to

  1855. draw you

  1856. into this

  1857. relationship with

  1858. me through an

  1859. understanding of

  1860. your sin

  1861. a recognition

  1862. of how that

  1863. separates you

  1864. from me

  1865. and I'm

  1866. going to

  1867. let you

  1868. I'm going

  1869. to share

  1870. with you

  1871. the powerful

  1872. life of

  1873. Jesus so

  1874. that you

  1875. understand that

  1876. he lived and

  1877. died in your

  1878. place so that

  1879. you could be

  1880. related to me

  1881. so that you

  1882. could receive

  1883. my salvation.

  1884. It's my hope

  1885. that all of

  1886. you have

  1887. understood the

  1888. need for his

  1889. touch and his

  1890. draw in your

  1891. life.

  1892. Let's pray.

  1893. Father it

  1894. is shocking

  1895. to me how

  1896. you take

  1897. sinful men

  1898. and you

  1899. change them.

  1900. God you

  1901. change them

  1902. so much

  1903. that their

  1904. life is

  1905. different.

  1906. God how

  1907. you show

  1908. them their

  1909. sin.

  1910. You show

  1911. us our

  1912. sin.

  1913. And Father

  1914. you transform

  1915. our lives.

  1916. You give us

  1917. a new heart.

  1918. Your word

  1919. says that

  1920. you'll take

  1921. our heart

  1922. of stone

  1923. and you

  1924. will change

  1925. it out

  1926. with the

  1927. heart of

  1928. flesh.

  1929. One that

  1930. is tender

  1931. to you.

  1932. One that

  1933. honors you

  1934. and you

  1935. will give

  1936. to us

  1937. your Holy

  1938. Spirit that

  1939. we might

  1940. know you.

  1941. We might

  1942. be marked

  1943. by you.

  1944. So God

  1945. for all

  1946. of us

  1947. this morning

  1948. Lord we

  1949. want to

  1950. embrace this

  1951. truth that

  1952. is so

  1953. apparent here

  1954. is that you

  1955. are sovereign

  1956. in every

  1957. way and

  1958. your will

  1959. will be

  1960. accomplished.

  1961. God help

  1962. us to walk

  1963. by faith

  1964. and help

  1965. us not to

  1966. walk in

  1967. sin and

  1968. manipulation

  1969. and lies

  1970. and Lord

  1971. help us to

  1972. trust you

  1973. in every

  1974. way in

  1975. our lives.

  1976. For those

  1977. of us in

  1978. the kingdom

  1979. God those

  1980. of us who

  1981. are Christians

  1982. I pray that

  1983. you would

  1984. give us

  1985. faith.

  1986. Help us to

  1987. walk in

  1988. faith like

  1989. the apostle

  1990. said increase

  1991. our faith and

  1992. so God would

  1993. you increase

  1994. the faith of

  1995. all of us who

  1996. are Christians

  1997. this morning and

  1998. if there's

  1999. anyone here

  2000. that's not a

  2001. Christian father

  2002. would you show

  2003. them their sin

  2004. and really the

  2005. rebellion it is

  2006. against you

  2007. and God

  2008. would you by

  2009. grace would

  2010. you show

  2011. them why

  2012. Christ came

  2013. and died so

  2014. that they might

  2015. know you.

  2016. God would you

  2017. grant salvation

  2018. to those here

  2019. that need it

  2020. this morning I

  2021. pray in your

  2022. name.

  2023. Amen.
